My steering wheel has been shaking and having a clunking sound when I accelerate over 60 miles, go over any bumps, and turn. I had my mechanic diagnose it and I was told the steering coupler was bad. I did some research to see if it was a recall and it wasn't. Then I saw on Hyundai.com then I could check my VIN and verify if my vehicle qualified for the extended warranty for this issue. My vehicle qualified however after contacting customer service directly to verify, they advise me my vehicle did not qualify because of being over 100,000 miles. Prior to contacting them I saw that they had a statement saying that this issue was not safety related. I didn't believe that to be correct because my mechanic told me otherwise, and information I saw regarding Google searches said the opposite. Also, my own experience whenever that shaking of my steering wheel occurs I literally have to use both of my hands to control it. Therefore I believe it is a safety issue that absolutely needs to be revisited as being such. I was advised on that call to take it to the dealership and have them diagnose it and advise headquarters directly however I made it clear that I did not want to have to incur a diagnostic fee when the initial diagnostic I had was free and I have the estimate breakdown from my mechanic. And I did not believe that there should be any diagnostic fee for a safety concern. I did advise them that I was going to contact NHTSA and advised them of this circumstance in order for it to be reviewed.

In the last month I started to hear a clicking sound when turning my steering wheel in either direction. I am told that this is a frequent problem with Hyundai Elantra and is caused by a flexible coupling breaking. I brought my Elantra to the dealer to take cre of some other recalls but was told that the coupling problem is not a recall issue. I do have a Technical Service Bulletin from Hyundai on this issue and feel that since it happens frequently on the Elantra, it should be covered by the dealer or Hyundai corporate. Please advise as I cannot afford to pay for this repair as I am on disabilty with limited income.

2013 Elantra coupe se.The car wanders on the highway like a boat constantly left and right all over the lane and if/when you hit a dip or bump it REALLY throws the car around! There's Obviously issues with the suspension on a MULTITUDE of these model/year vehicles if not ALL of theml. It is VERY dangerous and needs to be addressed and recalled. I do not have an alignment issue as the tires brakes rotors and calipers are all new no dragging /pulling etc and the tires are properly pressured as well. Extremely well maintained car by the owner EXTREMELY poorly Engineered by the Maker! The steering coupler has been replaced also taking the play out of the wheel as those things are a small rubber "cog wheel" that wears completely to nothing causing severe play and a clunking noise in the wheel between the turning of left or right as that component acts as a spacer/gear/vibration absorber between the steering shaft and the steering assist helper motor gears these cars ALSO were sold knowing they were piston slap engines yet Still never issued a recall until YEARS and multi millions of complaints later only to only cover certain years and models yet they All had the same engine. Imagine the IDIOCY! I will NEVER purchase a Hyundai or a Kia EVER again rest assured! I do my research and homework on every potential item I'm looking into possibly getting yet Nowhere at the time was there any info regarding they were piston slap engines turning these out by the multi millions and trying to hide the fact until they no longer could. Disgustingly Sad that they do not stand behind there product!

On Saturday September 14, 2024 After working a full shift i started my 2013 Hyundai ELANTRA and the ecs light came on. which locks your power of steering. After several restarts to disengage the light. I called the tow truck pay the $80 for it to be brought to the dealership and was told that they can work on it on Tuesday. On Monday I received a phone call on stating I will be paying $3000 out-of-pocket.Even tho I have extended warranty nothing would be covered.

The repair is to replace the Steering Coupler a piece of plastic for $5 but it will cost $300 or more for my mechanic since it is a 2-3 hour job. I heard a noise and felt a pull when turning the steering wheel while the car was stationary or at low speeds. AAA said there was a recall and Hyundai would repair at no cost. The dealer stated I had a defective steering flexible coupler. If I did not replace, it could disintegrate in the steering column. I was told Hyundai extended the warrantee to 10 years or 100,000 miles. My 2013 car is 11 years old with 63,000 miles. The cost of the repair was $657.68. This is a safety issue with lots of complaints. This should be a recall. I want to be reimbursed for this manufacturing defect.

The bulbs are constantly blowing out, and need to be replaced. The steering wheel/column makes noises, and doesn't always lock, but when it does lock, it can be difficult to unlock it! The suspension shakes and rattles. There is a campaign for the corrosion of the undercarriage/suspension, that I was not aware of until a few weeks ago(I do have an appointment for that). The most pressing concern is with the steering(mechanic thinks it could be the coupler), and there are numerous complaints about this on various internet auto forums.

Steering wheel makes a thud or clicking noise when you turn the wheel. I was told that this is caused by the power steering coupling gear is worn. In my mind if a gear is wearing, it will eventually wear smooth. If this happens, I can only assume that you would no longer be able to steer the car. Hyundai has a service bulletin [XXX] ) out to address this problem, but they say that there is no steering performance issue. My personal mechanic does not agree with that assessment. Hyundai fixed this problem on my other Hyundai Elantra while it was under warranty. I have an appointment with the dealer this week to fix the steering, for an estimated $450. I also notified Hyundai Corporate Office on several occasions and a case manager by the name of Jose didn’t help at all nothing was resolved he only left voice messages and nothing was done.

I have steering issue with loud clunking coming from steering wheel, it is my understanding that this is a coupler issue that Hyundai had placed a extended warranty on up to 10 years from delivery when I'm coming up on but up on, however when I check with Hyundai I'm told that my VIN is not covered by this extended warranty and I'm concerned that this could fail completely causing possible safety issue. I'm told repair will cost 450 dollars which is not in my budget. I'm sure I'm not alone so I'm adding my voice to others that can or should not have to afford such a repair.

The steering coupler failed, causing the tires to turn back and forth (oscillate) while the driver held the steering wheel steady. The vehicle went out of control and spun out on wet pavement. The driver could feel the steering wheel go thunk-thunk-thunk back and forth, as the servomotor for the electric power steering system went out of control. The failed coupler is between the servomotor and the power steering rack. The free play from the defective steering coupler allows the electric power steering system to turn the tires WITHOUT any input from the steering wheel or driver, causing the vehicle to become unstable and spin out. Hyundai has a TSB on this issue [XXX] , but Hyndai says that this issue is a non-safety clunk noise. FALSE. This is a safety issue where the electric power steering system turns the tires (wheels) back and forth WITHOUT driver input. This causes the vehicle to become unstable, almost killing my wife. This IS a NHTSA safety issue, not a noise complaint. Hyundai falsely classified this problem as a noise issue, not a safety issue. This is a known defect that is falsely classified as a non-safety issue, escaping a NHTSA recall notice. This is a safety issue where the steering becomes unstable as the servomotor goes crazy due to the extra play or slop in the failed coupler. The safety issue is unrecoverable on wet or snowy pavement. On dry pavement it is annoying and unstable. This issue is also very dangerous and causes oversteer (spin outs) when the wheels hit an expansion joint at an angle. The vehicle oscillates and spins out, as the electric power steering system becomes unstable. It is terrible. This TSB needs to be reclassified properly as a safety recall. Thank you. 2013 Elantra GT purchased new less than 63,000 miles. Airbag warning light on constantly. Hyundai has issued an extended lifetime warranty on clock spring. 2 local Dealers are 45 days behind in scheduling repairs and will not look at clockspring without agreement to pay $200.00 diagnostic fee to find what other issue may be at fault. This makes the extended warranty bait and switch smokescreen worthless. Diagnostic failed to identify clock spring failure. Instead both front end impact sensors were shorting out and anticipated ECU failure. estimated repair approx $1,000. After this diagnosis noise and resistance in steering wheel increased which is symptomatic of clock spring failure causing electrical failure in other systems. 20 miles later AC blower motor failed and burning electrical smell/smoke presented from behind dashboard. The extent and resulting danger from the faulty wiring systems is undetermined at this time. Significant risk of fire danger

When Ever I turn my steering I hear a rubbing noise. Upon online research it sounds like a steering (MPDS) bearing is worn. Sound it makes is getting worse. I fear if my steering will eventually freeze while driving. Manufacturer had a technical service bulletin for other year models but not for 2013 Elantra and they do not sell bearing alone. Was told they sell entire steering column assembly. No warning lamp/ messages earlier. I did have issue with worn steering coupler which I just replaced and still have this other problem.

Took my car to a mechanic he said it is the electronic power steering and it was a safety issue that was under recall. Called dealer they said they won't repair it for free because my car is over 100K miles. They want to charge me $350. so not fair. Dealership shouldn't be able to not repair recalls period. they make a mistake the public has to pay for it.

There is a clicking sound in the Hyundai's steering column. The issue is common enough that Hyundai has extended the warranty on the coupler for Elantras and Sonatas - however the dealer charges over $160/hour diagnostic charge so the extended warranty is not helpful. I think Hyundai should issue a recall for this item. Hyundai is claiming that this is not a safety issue, but it is very concerning when you hear a loud clicking noise coming from your steering column. I expect the noise to worsen and fear that it could potentially damage the steering column. I did take my car to a local repair shop (not the dealer) and they confirmed that it sounds like a coupler issue and provided an estimate for a costly repair.

The steering wheel clicks when turning and even when trying to drive straight. The car requires more effort to stay in lane and potential safety concerns include total loss of steering while driving. This is a known problem with Hyundai's Electric Steering Flex Coupler. There are many reports of this issue online and it seems Hyundai issued an extended warranty until 100,000 miles for this issue but claims there are no safety impacts. However, the issue involves the degrading of the coupler used and this typically occurs AFTER 100,000 miles, as happened with my vehicle. Also, when taking the vehicle to the dealership for other service, this defect was noted and we were warned that it CAN be potentially a safety concern. So, the dealers themselves acknowledge this is a safety issue and yet they will not cover this $450 repair. I cannot afford this out-of-pocket expense. The car maker should be responsible to repair a known defect in manufacture that their service technicians state are safety concerns.

I took it to Midas to have it examined and was told the steering couple was bad and should be replaced but referred me back to a dealer as they felt the repair should be covered. I was told that it is not covered and the repair is costly. I am not able to afford the repair and am concerned about the safety of continuing to drive this vehicle but it is the only car I have.

The problem is in the steering and yes it is available upon request for inspection. My safety and that of anyone riding is at risk because the problem persists and it's progressively worse. There's a knock/pull/resistance whenever the steering turns slightly or fully either way. Yes the problem has been confirmed. The vehicle has been inspected by an independent business owner, and contractor. There were no warning signs or indicators of the problem, it started approximately 2020 but was slightly less pronounced than it is now and has become increasingly worse.

At low speeds the steering wheel is pulling and feels like there is a loose spot in the turning radius of the steering. I have replaced the lights and battery many times and something keeps draining it. The outside brake lights sometimes stay on. So does the front running lights. The car sometimes wants to stall and when I press on the gas pedal it finally catches but still seems like it is going to shut down. The steering column has a really bad clicking in it and doesn’t seem to be tight anymore.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact's daughter was driving at approximately 70 MPH when she heard an abnormal "pop" sound come from under the floorboards. The contact said that as she was following the road on a right-hand curve the vehicle steering was not responding to her steering correction to follow the turn. The contact said that his daughter lost control and spun the vehicle 180 degrees and crashed into a guard rail. The contact stated that she did not notice any warning lights. The vehicle hit the guard first with the front driver's fender and then the entire driver's side hit the guard rail and all forward momentum stopped. The police arrived on the scene and wrote a report. The daughter had not suffered any injuries, however, the vehicle was undrivable and was towed to a towing lot. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact's insurance provider declared the vehicle a total loss. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V311000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

I own a 2013 hyundai elantra with around 53k miles at the time of making this complaint. My problem was that the steering coupler failed and would cause the steering wheel to make a clunking noise when steering left and right. Also when i go over a bump my steering wheel would vibrate and on top of that my car would sometimes drift slightly left or right which puts me at risk for an accident. thankfully i didn’t get into one. From what i’ve heard this is a common problem with these cars and had the coupler replaced which seems to fix the problem and am upset i had to fork out over 600$ to fix it at a hyundai dealer on the day of March 6 2023 and i was hoping i was covered under a warranty but per the hyundai dealer employee he said i wasn’t covered since the warranty expired. i wasn’t the first original owner of the car so the car is past the 10 year warranty period per the dealer employee, i owned it for about 5 years. wish hyundai would extend the warranty or recall this problem on these trash cars.

Something in the steering wheel is messed up. When the wheel is turned even a few centimeters, it makes a loud clicking noise like something is not attached correctly. It causes the car the shake when going over bumps/pot holes.

2013 Elantra GT steering coupler has broken due to poor design and plastic materials. Dealership stated this has been a common issue in other Elantra and Sonata models and has apparently been covered with an additional 10years on the extended warranty on all models of Elantra except the GT. The broken coupler causes a clicking sound in the steering and eventually leads to the steering locking and can be a serious safety issue. This model should be included in the warranty as it has already been an identified safety issue on other models. No warning lights or notification on the dash, but loose handling on the road and I was told by my mechanic that continued driving and wear and tear would lead to the steering locking up and potential accident in the future.

Confirmed by two separate independent service centers who were able to replicate the problem and identify the issue. The part costs $13.99 to replace but looking at a cost of over $500 to replace for labor.

Starting in 2020, my 2013 Elantra GT, with very low mileage still less than 40K today , started to develop clicking sound when I turned the wheel. This year, the clicking sound is getting louder and more frequent. Today, I was advised by the mechanic who performed the required annual safety inspection that "steering wheel coupler" should be fixed ASAP. After doing some research this is a well known problem caused by the disintegration of the "steering wheel coupler" in the power steering motor. I received a quoted price of $599 from Hyundai Chantilly (dealer) in VA to fix it as it will take about 2.5 hours. I believe this Hyundai cross-models-cross-years wide issue should have been covered by the manufacturer extended warranty to avoid steering lockup accidents.

I especially feel it going over rough patches of road. It has affected my alignment causing the car to list right when straight. My 2013 was stolen because of defective car . The manufacturer choose to sip safety for dollars they could have place a immobilizer in all Hyundai form 2011 until current but did not in the United States, but in Canada it is a must have item.

My wife's car has had some play in the steering wheel for about 20,000 miles. It currently has 135,000+. I wrote it off as normal wear and tear. Recently it has started having a clunking noise and a little more play. I researched this and found that this is a common problem on a few years of Hyundai cars. It is the steering coupler in the steering motor on top of the steering column. I even saw posts that said that their vehicles steering had actually locked up while driving. I have tried contacting Hyundai motors themselves and all I get is an automated response. I have contacted the dealership and there is no recall or safety bulletin, or that's what I'm being told. It is a $10-$20 part but $400+ in labor to fix it. I don't have that kind of money laying around but I am scared to let my wife drive it more than a few miles. In my eyes this is a severe safety issue and think this should be taken very seriously by Hyundai but they don't seem worried at all. Myself I would like to have a safe car for my wife and not have to worry if she is going to be OK.

I own an 2013 Elantra GT, that currently has about 89,000 miles. Over the last several months, there is a very loud clunk when I turn the steering wheel or when driving over uneven roads (like pot holes). As the noise got worse, I was concerned about something broken in the car. I took this to a national tire dealer (Big O) and was informed that the noise was from a very well known issue in the Elantra vehicles, I made an appointment at the Hyundai dealer and without looking at the car, I was told it did not fall under the service bulletin and the repair would cost over $400. This seems to be one of the few Elantras that Hyundai has not issued the extended warranty for. I'm very concerned that this issue will cause the loss of steering control and will cause an accident or even death. Hyundai needs to extend the warranty to cover the Elantra GT along with all the other Hyundai models

Steering column has clunking sound due to failed steering coupling adapter. This problem has been covered through recall in Elantra and Sonata sedans but not in Elantra coupes. [XXX] Steering coupler failure. There is a recall on other Hyundai models for this same issue, but not the GT models. The flexible steering couple 56315-2k000fff is a known issue, yet Hyundai is saying its not a recall. This is a manufacture design flaw that renders the vehicle unable to be driven safely due to steering wheel shaking uncontrollably. It seems all Hyundai Elantra models using this coupler are covered under a manufacturers special warranty with the exception of the coupe models (this one). Hyundai's website states: "Hyundai Motor America is revising the warranty coverage for the rubber coupling in the motor driven power steering (MDPS) assembly on 2007-2015 Elantra Sedans, 2009-2012 Elantra Touring models, 2011-2014 Sonata Sedans, and 2011-2015 Hybrid Sonata Sedans to 10 years from the date of original delivery or the date of first use, or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first." Sometime around last November or December, I took my vehicle for oil change and other services performed at Pep Boys, I was notified that all four tires are almost worn out and needs to be replaced. All four tires were replace sometime in December 2021 and they also did the wheel balance and wheel alignment. Around January 2022, while driving, I could feel the tightness on the steering wheel and also my car pulling left and at times crossing into the adjacent lane and was tough on the steering wheel to bring it back to the previous lane. I informed Pep Boys and they carried out some tests and also did a wheel alignment at no cost. The problem hasn't been fixed, there's a knocking noise in the steering wheel and the car is still pulling right, there's also the sensor light flashing in the dashboard, which the mechanic at Pep Boys is unable to fix even after carrying out diagnostic tests. The vehicle is available for inspection, it has been inspected by Pep Boys, the warning lamp for the wheels is continuously flashing and Pep Boys has been unable to determine the course.

Steering Coupler inside steering motor has disintegrate. Causing a clanking noise as you turn the steering wheel. There is just a service bulletin recommending you switch this part out, but no recall yet. If the coupler bushing were to completely disintegrate you would have a locked steering column or lose complete control of your electric steering.

Subframe is rotted. It snapped while driving; braking the control arm in the process. The lives of my children and myself were put at risk. If we had been on a busy road or highway, ourselves and others would have been at serious risk of sever injury and/or possible death. It has not been seen by a service center, incident happened 11/29/2021. The vehicle was inspected by a personal mechanic to find the cause of the malfunction. There were know warning signs before the component failure.

The HYUNDAI Genuine OEM Flexible Steering Couple 56315-2K000FFF has failed. The steering wheel clicks and has a clunking feel and is getting more pronounced. There is a manufacturing design flaw in the rubber compound causing it to disintegrate within the unit. For some reason, all Hyundai Elantra models using this coupler are covered under a manufacturers special warranty with the exception of the Coupe Models that they made for only 2 years.

1. There is an electrical issue with the power steering. 2. This poses a HUGE safety risk, as the power steering could completely give out and we could lose control of the vehicle. 3. Has failed some time ago and we had no idea it was this dangerous until today. The steering wheel would click and has done so for a long time over 2 years and we noticed it getting much worse so we looked up videos and parts to see what it could be. This is a manufacture design flaw that should have never happened. Driving down the road the wheel is not stable and bumps or thumps and is also very distracting while driving. The biggest concern is that it makes you think that the steering is going to fail and you will crash. If Hyundai did this to make people come in for a repair to just get money at the expense of fearful customers this is a corporate wrong that needs to be corrected and force them to repair all these at no cost for the life of the car and redesign these so this never happens again.

The steering system is clunking both at rest and while in motion. The dealer diagnosed the problem as the steering coupler. This part is the subject of a recall in other similar models but for some reason the GT model is excluded, even though it is an identical part. The problem is getting progressively worse while Hyundai is refusing to help. The dealer service writer was at a loss to explain why my car is not included in the recall. First reported to Hyundai in January 2021 at about 90,000 miles.

AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE FOUND OUT IT ONLY HAS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SO NO STEERING FLUID AND MANY HYUNDAI CAR HAS/HAD SAME ISSUE. IN FACT HYUNDAI HAS RECALLED CARS UPTO 2011 FOR THIS ISSUE. THERE IS AN EXISTING SAFETY ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI ELECTRIC STEERING. THE RUBBER STEERING COUPLING IS DEFECTIVE AND THEY HAVE ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA SEDANS BUT NOT THE GT MODELS. HOWEVER, THEY BOTH USE THE SAME ELECTRIC MOTOR. I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIRS AND FOUND THAT THE COUPLER HAD BEEN SHREDDED. THIS IS A $5 PIECE WHICH COSTS A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS TO HAVE REPLACED BY AN AUTO SHOP. HYUNDAI SHOULD BE REPLACING THESE, INSTEAD OF ITS CUSTOMERS.

MY ELANTRAS BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS ON. MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, EPS LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ARE ALWAYS ON AS WELL. I SEE WHERE MY VEHICLE IS SHOWN THAT THE RECALLS HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED ON MY CAR AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IS TRUE OR THIS WOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. MY BRAKES LIGHTS CONSTANTLY BEING ON IS A MAJOR PROBLEM BECAUSE THAT CAN CAUSE CONFUSION ON OTHER DRIVES AND ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M REALLY USING THEM TO SLOW DOWN. I'M ALWAYS HAVING TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE THE LIGHT BULBS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF MY VEHICLE AS WELL WHICH IS ODD. **STEERING WHEEL SAFETY HAZARD** I HAVE A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA SE COUPE, 50K MILES. I NOTICED THAT ALL THE SUDDEN IN THE PAST WEEK OR SO THERE IS A FEW INCH GAP AND A CLUNKING NOISE IN MY STEERING WHEEL. I BROUGHT IT TO MY DEALERSHIP (KING HUYNDAI AND DEERFIELD BEACH FLORIDA) AND THEY ADVISED THAT MY "STEERING WHEEL COUPLER" NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED HIM IF THERE ARE ANY POSSIBLE HAZARDOUS OR DANGEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS FAULTY STEERING WHEEL COUPLER. HIS RESPONSE WAS, "ABSOLUTELY, YOUR STEERING WHEEL CAN LOCK UP AND CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT"! HE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT IF I DO NOT HAVE THIS REPAIRED ASAP IT CAN RESULT IN MY ENTIRE ELECTRICAL STEERING SYSTEM TO ALSO BREAK & NEED REPLACEMENT. HE ALSO ADDED, "IF THAT HAPPENS I WILL END UP SPENDING A LOT MORE MONEY FOR THAT REPAIR ALSO"! I DID SOME RESEARCH ON MY OWN AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS BAD "COUPLER" IS MADE OF ONLY PLASTIC!! THE AVERAGE COST IS ONLY ABOUT $10 FOR A NEW ONE. THE DEALERSHIP WANTED TO CHARGE ME OVER $300.00 (OUT OF THE DOOR) FOR THIS SPECIFIC REPAIR. THIS GAP AND CLUNKING SOUND HAPPENS WHILE THE CAR IS TOTALLY STOPPED (BUT STILL RUNNING) AND ALSO DURING NORMAL AVERAGE DRIVING. THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE I HAVE AND I TRANSPORT MY THREE YOUNG CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE. I AM SO SCARED TO DRIVE IT NOW, I AM TRYING TO FIND OTHER TRANSPORTATION METHODS. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING I AM ABLE TO FEEL EVEN THE SMALLEST PEBBLE UNDER A TIRE AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND TRULY DOES NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL AND IS VERY SCARY. SERVICE FACILITY DEEMED FAULT IS SECONDARY TO DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRING. THE DEFECT CAUSES THE AIRBAG SYSTEM TO FAIL AND AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS FAULT.

THE "DEAD-SPOT ANGLE IS GETTING WIDER AND WIDER AS THE RUBBER SLIP-JOINT PART INEVITABLY DISINTEGRATES THIS RUBBER BUSHING IS A SHEAR DEVICE BETWEEN THE MECHANICAL STEERING SHAFT AND AN ELECTRIC MOTOR THAT POWERS THE HYUNDAI'S STEERING RATHER THAN TRADITIONAL HYDRAULIC PUMP POWER STEERING FOUND ON MOST CARS. MY NEIGHBOR'S HYUNDAI WENT FULLY THROUGH THE FAILURE PROCESS THAT RESULTED IN NO POWER ASSISTED STEERING AND A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THE FAILURE OF THIS $1.25 (RETAIL) PART IS SO COMMON IN MANY HYUNDAI MODELS LIKE THE ELANTRA, THAT THE PARTS DEPARTMENT KEEPS A BOX OF THEM CONSTANTLY ON HAND FOR THE INEVITABLE FAILURE OF THIS PART IN EVERY HYUNDAI MODEL THAT USES IT. IT'S A HUGE PROFIT PRODUCER FOR THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT, SO I CAN UNDERSTAND THEIR RELUCTANCE TO REDESIGN THIS PART. HOWEVER, I CAN'T CURRENTLY AFFORD THE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS OF LABOR CHARGE THAT HYUNDAI DEMANDS FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS DEFECTIVELY DESIGNED PART, SO I DON'T LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE SHE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO REACT TO THE LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST AT HIGH SPEEDS. I DRIVE THE CAR AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. HYUNDAI IS WELL AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND HAD A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON 2010 MODELS BUT ENDED THE RECALL WHEN THEY PROBABLY TOLD THE NHTSA THAT THEY CORRECTED THE PART. IN ACTUAL FACT, THEY DIDN'T FIX THE INHERENT DEFECT AND IF YOU DO A SEARCH ONLINE YOU WILL SEE THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE STILL BEING ENDANGERED BY THIS DEFECT.

HE SAID IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY A STEERING CUPPLER AND/OR STEERING BUSHING. MY CAR IS A 2013 AND ONLY HAS 59K MILES. THIS IS VERY LITTLE. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND THERE ARE MORE THAN 120 COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. SHE WAS FEARFUL TO DRIVE HER VEHICLE AND BORROWED A CAR TO GO TO WORK WHILE SHE HAD THE WORN COUPLING ISSUE. HYUNDIA IS PUTTING PEOPLES' LIVES AT RISK DOWNPLAYING, NOT INFORMING, AND REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEPTH OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN I REPLACED THE STEERING COUPLING, I FORGOT TO PLUG IN A WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE WHEEL AND THE BUTTONS STARTED WORKING AGAIN BUT HAD NO POWER STEERING. PLUGGED THE HARNESS BACK IN AND HAD STEERING BUT THE BUTTONS NO LONGER WORKED. PRETTY SURE HYUNDAI IS UPLOADING ERROR CODES AND GIVING PEOPLE THE RUN AROUND IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET MORE MONEY. RECALL THIS CRAP ALREADY BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS. HOLD THIS COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING CRAP TO PEOPLE.

LOOKED IN MY OPERATOR'S MANUAL TO SEE WHAT THIS LIGHT MEANT, IT INSTRUCTED ME TO DISABLE THE ESC BY PUSHING TO ESC OFF BUTTON WHICH I LOCATED AND DID. THIS TURNED THE TROUBLE LIGHT OFF, AND I CONTINUED TO DRIVE. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE STILL TO THIS DAY IS HARD TO STEER AND CONTROL AND I HAVE TO KEEP BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL. IN ADDITION, I WAS BRAKING AND THE ABS BRAKING DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT RAN INTO A CONCRETE CURB. THE RESULT OF THE MALFUNCTIONS OF THE STEERING AND BRAKING ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WAS DAMAGE TO THE FRONT RIGHT OF THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING BUMPER, WHEEL, TIRE, RADIATOR SUPPORT, ETC. I AM VERY THANKFUL THAT I WAS NOT HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE OR INJURED. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE - OR THE LACK THEREOF - ON JULY 14TH. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ELECTRIC ASSISTED STEERING AND BRAKING ON THE 2013 ELANTRA ACCORDING TO RESEARCH. I WANT TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF AN ADDITIONAL COMPLAINT REGARDING MY ELANTRA. THE DAMAGE REQUIRED REPLACEMENT FRIGHT FRONT WHEEL, RIGHT FRONT TIRE, RIGHT FENDER LINER AND INNER BRACKET, RADIATOR SUPPORT, RIGHT HINGE PILLAR, RIGHT LOWER CONTROL ARM, RIGHT FENDER, PAINTING AND 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AND LOCKED EVEN THOUGHT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. THIS MALFUNCTION PROHIBITED ME FROM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AND COMPLETING THE LEFT TURN SAFELY. THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED AS IT DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND I NOTICED A SLOW ABS SOUND VERSUS THE TYPICAL VERY RAPID ABS SOUND WHEN HARD BRAKING. THE MALFUNCTION OF THE STEERING AND THE BRAKES COULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE BUT FORTUNATELY DID NOT.

A WEEK LATER THE ESC TURNED ON IN A PARKING LOT WHILE I WAS DRIVING, HIT THE ESC OFF BUTTON AND THE CAR BEHAVED UNTIL AUG 24TH. I CALLED HYUNDAI TO REPORT, BUT SINCE IT DIDN'T OCCUR AGAIN, THEY SAID DO NOT BRING IT IN. ON AUGUST 24TH, THE ESC CAME ON WHILE I WAS IN A SCHOOL ZONE, I HIT THE OFF BUTTON, I TOOK THE OFF BUTTON OFF, TO SEE IF IT WOULD ACTIVATE AGAIN SO I COULD BRING IT INTO HYUNDAI (THEY SAID IT HAD TO BE MALFUNCTIONING AT THE TIME OF VISIT TO BE FIXED) IT MALFUNCTIONED! ALMOST KILLING MY MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER! IF I HADN'T KNOWN ABOUT THE ESC OFF BUTTON, I WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE CRASHED!

THE AUTO STEERING OR SELF CORRECTING STEERING IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD HAVE AN OFF SWITCH. 2.TRACTION CONTROL- THE TRACTION CONTROL IS DANGEROUS IN ICE,SNOW AND RAIN. IT HAS THE OPPOSITE EFFECT IN THESE CONDITIONS, IT WOULD SAFER AND WOULD HAVE MORE CONTROL IF IT IS SIMPLY TURNED OFF. 3. STALLING- THE VEHICLE STALLS VERY EASY, BUT I BELIEVE IT DUE TO SAVING GAS AT IDLE WITH LOWER RPM. IS HAS BEEN 2 YEARS NOW SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY 15 TIMES FOR SUSPENSION AND STEERING PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE HANDLES POORLY ON PRETTY MUCH ANY ROAD CONDITION. THE VEHICLE WILL SWAY AND JUMP OVER EVERY BUMP OR CRACK IN THE ROAD. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT IN A LANE AND FEEL YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TO WHITENUCKLE THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I OWN A HYUNDAI 2013 ELANTRA AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. THE CAR HAS SEVERAL TIMES REFUSED TO START AND THE BREAK PAD GETS STUCK AND I CAN'T MOVE THE CAR OUT OF PARK. I'VE HAD TO CALL THE TOW TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES AND THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THE CAR START AGAIN IS TO MANUALLY SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL. I JUST MOUNTED MY WINTER TIRES AND WAS MADE AWARE OF SEVERE WEAR AS IF ONLY 1/3 OF TIRE IS ACTUALLY IN CONTACT WITH THE ROAD SURFACE. WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WILL HAVE A SLIGHT LOCK TO IT THAT WILL BE UNLOCKED BY OVER-CORRECTING THE WHEEL. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN PRESENT SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE IN MARCH AND WAS LOOKED AT BY HYUNDAI WHO SAID THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND THAT WHAT WE WERE FEELING WAS COMMON IN AN ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM. IN OUR IGNORANCE WE ACCEPTED THEIR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME WORSE SINCE THEN, ON 5/23/15 AS I WAS DRIVING THE PROBLEM WAS SO BAD THAT IT FELT AS IF THE WHEEL HAD LOCKED UP ENTIRELY AND WAS POINTED IN THE DIRECTION OF THE DITCH, I CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BUT HAD TO USE MORE FORCE THAN ANY PREVIOUS TIME AND IN DOING SO THE CAR JERKED INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE, HAD A VEHICLE BEEN IN THE OPPOSITE LANE I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM HEAD ON. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD AS HARD OF A LOCKUP SINCE THEN HOWEVER WE HAVE NOT GONE OVER 55 SINCE THEN EITHER. IN THE CITY AT LOWER SPEEDS OF 25-45 YOU CAN STILL FEEL IT LOCKING UP AT TIMES HOWEVER IT IS MUCH MORE EASILY CORRECTED. THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS AT ANY SPEED AND DISTANCE, BUT ON 5/23 WAS THE WORST INCIDENT YET AND I EXPECT THAT IT WILL GET WORSE UNTIL IT IS PROPERLY CORRECTED. HYUNDAI THOUGH SAYS THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND ITS ALL PART OF THE NORMAL OPERATIONS OF AN ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM, I HOWEVER AM NOT CONVINCED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED IN APRIL OF 2014. PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE POWER STEERING GAVE OUT ON ME WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY GOING 75 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF AND LUCKILY THE DEALERSHIP WAS RIGHT OFF THE EXIT. THE EPS LIGHT WAS ON AND IT THREW A CODE. THEY TOLD ME MY STEERING COLUMN WAS BAD. THEY REPLACED IT AND ALL WAS FINE. THEN I HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY FACTORY INSTALLED REMOTE START A FEW MONTHS LATER. THEY TOLD ME A CIRCUIT WAS BLOWN AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW THIS YEAR (MAY OF 2015) I HAVE HAD THE REMOTE START AND THE POWER STEERING GO OUT ON ME ONCE AGAIN. MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP, WAS TOLD I NEEDED STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AGAIN. I REFUSED THIS ANSWER, AND THEY ARE DIGGING DEEPER AND HAVE FIGURED OUT THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. I LEFT MY PURSE (WITH $1200 IN IT) AND EVERYTHING AND FLED ACROSS ROAD TO SAVE MY LIFE. ASKED MAN THERE IF HE HAD A FIRE EXTINQUISHER, HE DIDN'T, ASKED ME TO STAY BECAUSE IT WAS SO COLD, AND I SAID NO, I WANTED TO CHECK MY CAR AND IN THAT 60 SECONDS, I WALKED OUT AND STOOD IN HIS DRIVEWAY AND CAR WAS TOTALLY A BLAZE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER IN PADUCAH THEY SAID IT WAS MY BRAKES, THEY CUT THE ROUTERS. I COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR EVEN AFTER THE REPAIR OVER 55 MPH AS IT WOULD WANDER TO THE LEFT AND TO THE RIGHT. NOTICED WHEN I TEST DROVE THIS VEHICLE IN APRIL 2013 WHEN IT HIT SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD IT SEEMED UNSTEADY IN THE BACK. THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE DYNAMICS OF A NEW VEHICLE I WOULD GET USED TO. I'M USED TO DRIVING DYNAMICS OF SMALL VEHICLES. THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW TIMES WHERE I'VE BEEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 20-70MPH WHEN I HIT A BUMP ON A STRAIGHT/CURVED ROAD AND VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE WILDLY AND FEEL LIKE IT WAS OUT OF CONTROL. TODAY WE HAVE SNOW COVERED/SLUSHY ROADS AND I'VE BEEN PARTICULARLY CAUTIOUS. AT ~60MPH ON I70 (WHICH WAS CLEAR AND PLOWED), I MOVED TO THE PASSING LANE TO GO AROUND A SLOWER VEHICLE BEFORE A CREEK BRIDGE. WHEN I HIT THE EDGE OF THE BRIDGE I COMPLETED THE MANEUVER, BUT A SMALL LIP ON THE SECTION OF BRIDGE MEETING THE ROAD CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO FISHTAIL AND ALMOST HIT THE VEHICLE NEXT TO ME. I WAS FIGHTING FOR CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE FOR 300 FEET, WHICH IS WORSE THAN I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN THIS VEHICLE, HENCE THE REASON I WROTE THIS COMPLAINT. IT FELT LIKE ANOTHER EXPERIENCE I HAD IN A FIAT WITH A BENT REAR AXLE, EVERY TIME IT WOULD HOP OVER A BUMP IT WOULD WOBBLE IN THE BACK END AND YET IT FELT SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT BECAUSE I COULDN'T CORRECT IT QUICKLY WHEN THE CAR SHOULD HAVE SETTLED. FROM READING OTHER PEOPLE'S COMPLAINTS, IT SEEMS PLAUSIBLE THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE ELANTRA MAY IN FACT BE IN THE FRONT END WITH THE POWER STEERING AUTO-CORRECT TO CENTER. THAT IS WHAT IT FELT LIKE I WAS FIGHTING THOSE 300 FEET, NOT THE DYNAMICS OF THE FOUR WHEELS NOT BEING SQUARE ON THE ROAD, BUT INSTEAD LIKE AS IF THE CAR WAS FIGHTING ME. THE 2011 THROUGH 2013 ELANTRA'S HAVE THIS SAME INHERENT ISSUE IN WHICH THE REAR OF THE CAR IS NOT ENGINEERED TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT LINE OR TRACK PROPERLY OVER BUMPS AND DIPS IN THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN MY 2013 ELANTRA LIMITED TO MCCARTHY BLUE SPRINGS HYUNDAI AND CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REQUESTED CONTACT BY THEIR DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER OVER THE PAST YEAR BUT IT HAS BEEN OVER 2 MONTHS AND NO RESPONSE FROM THE DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER (TODAY IS 8-27-2013). THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE BUT SAY ITS THE WAY THE CAR IS MADE AND THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. THE PROBLEM IS AN ISSUE IN TURNS AND CAN KICK THE CAR OUT OF LINE IN WET, SNOWY OR ICY CONDITIONS SO MUCH THAT THE VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST MUST INTERVENE. THESE ARE NOT CONDITIONS THAT MY OTHER CAR HAS AN ISSUE WITH OR ANY CAR THAT I'VE OWNED IN THE PAST THAT DID NOT HAVE VSA. THE ISSUE IS NOT DUE TO THE REAR END OF THE CAR BEING LIGHT DUE TO NOT HAVING A SPARE TIRE AS SOME HAVE BEEN TOLD, THIS ISSUE IS PURELY THE FAULT OF HYUNDAI AND MAY EVEN INVOLVE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING NOT BEING PROPERLY TUNED TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT LINE AS THE WHEEL WILL ABRUPTLY RETURN TO A POSITION FAR LEFT OF CENTER. BLUELINK PERFORMED AN INSPECTION REMOTELY & SAID TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ASAP. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO KEEP THE CAR UNTIL MONDAY, BUT WE WERE MOVING TO A DIFFERENT CITY THEREFORE WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP IN OUR NEW CITY INSTEAD. I TOLD THE STORY TO THE SERVICE DEPT, LEFT THE CAR THERE AT THE NEW DEALERSHIP, 2 DAYS LATER I CAME BACK TO GET IT. THE AIR BAG ISSUE WAS FIXED BUT NOT THE PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE ALIGNMENT SPECIALIST CAME WITH ME TO TEST IT, REALIZED THAT IT WAS STILL PULLING, WE WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP & SWITCHED THE TWO FRONT TIRES & WENT AGAIN FOR ANOTHER TEST. THE SPECIALIST REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS NOW PULLING TO THE LEFT. WE TEST DROVE THE CAR OVER 8 TIMES, THEY SAID ALIGNMENT WAS GOOD & ONLY ATTEMPTED TO ROTATE THE TIRES MULTIPLE TIMES, CAR STILL PULLED. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP, THEY AGREED THE CAR WAS PULLING BUT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE ANOTHER DEALERSHIP HAD ALREADY INSPECTED IT & I WOULD HAVE TO PAY EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS BARELY TWO WKS OLD! I WENT BACK TO THE PREVIOUS DEALERSHIP, WE TESTED IT AGAIN WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. THEY TRIED TO CONVINCE ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, WHEN CLEARLY THE CAR STILL PULLS STRONGLY TO THE RIGHT. NOTICED THE STEERING WHEN I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY THAT NIGHT, BUT ASSUMED IT WAS A BREAK IN PERIOD FOR ME TO GET USE TO THE CAR, WELL ONE MONTH LATER I WAS CONSTANTLY ADJUSTING THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET THE CAR TO STAY IN THE LANE. I SPOKE TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANAGER ([XXX]) ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT, EARLIEST DATE JUNE 6TH , I REQUESTED A LOANER CAR BECAUSE ONCE THEY HAD THE CAR I HAD NO WAY OF GETTING TO WORK, I CALLED TWO DAYS PRIOR TO MY SERVICE DATE TO CONFIRM THAT THERE WOULD BE A LOANER AVAILABLE, I WAS TOLD IF THAT WAS THE ARRANGEMENT MADE ON MY SET UP DATE THEN THE LOANER WOULD BE THERE. ONE DAY PRIOR TO ME GOING TO SERVICE WITH THE CAR, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM LYNNES SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT NO LOANER WAS AVAILABLE, NO REASON WHY, IT JUST WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I TOOK THE CAR TO SANSONE HYUNDAI ON THE 18TH, MY RIGHT HAND WAS STARTING TO HURT FROM HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL SO TIGHT TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE CAR. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ([XXX]) THAT THE CAR HAD 60PSI ON ONE OF THE TIRES, AIR WAS CHECKED AND ADJUSTED ON ALL THE TIRES AND WAS TOLD TO GIVE IT A TRY NOW? NO CHANGE, I CALLED [XXX] (CUSTOMER SERVICE) AND TOLD HIM THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING WITH THE CAR, HE RECOMMENDED I COME BACK IN ON THE 24TH OF JUNE, DROPPED OFF THE CAR, AND RECEIVED A CALL THAT AFTERNOON THAT HE ([XXX]) DROVE THE CAR AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS, AND MAYBE THIS WAS NOT THE CAR FOR ME, AND THAT IF I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR FROM HIS DEALERSHIP, HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MOVE ME INTO ANOTHER CAR. AT FIRST THEY ATTEMPTED TO TELL ME NOTHING WAS WRONG THEN I TOOK THEM FOR A RIDE. IT WAS THEN AGREED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS OFF CENTER AND CAR WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT. I WAS THEN TOLD NO REPAIR WAS AVAILABLE. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI INC. 06.18.2013, THEY IN TURN CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHICH WITHHELD THE INFORMATION THAT THEY HAD AGREED THERE WAS A NON REPAIRABLE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. I THEN CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH THE PERSON THAT WITH HELD INFORMATION AND HE STATED HE DID SO BECAUSE HE WAS NOT ASKED. HE IS ALSO CLAIMING THE SHOP FOREMAN IS IN SCHOOL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND I AM TO TAKE MY CAR IN ON 06.24.2013 FOR THE REPAIR WHICH WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN MARCH, IT WAS MY FIRST TIME BUYING A NEW CAR. WITHIN THE FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER BUYING THE CAR I NOTICED A FEW RATTLING AND CLANKING NOISES. I BELIEVED THIS TO BE THE CARS MOVING PARTS, AND DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT AT THE TIME, ESPECIALLY SINCE I WAS USED TO DRIVING USED CARS THAT SOUNDED WORSE. AFTER A FEW WEEKS, I NOTICED THAT THE NOISES WHERE NOTICEABLY LOUDER, ALONG WITH A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM (UNIVERSAL HYUNDAI IN ORLANDO) WAS BOOKED UP SO I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT ORLANDO HYUNDAI. SHORTLY AFTER BRINGING MY CAR IN, AND HAVING THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT LOOK AT THE CAR, I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS SOLD TO ME DEFECTIVE, THAT "THE LEFT AND RIGHT INNER TIRE RODS AND LOCK NUTS WERE LOOSE, THREADS WERE DAMAGED, AND THE LOCK NUTS WERE LEFT LOOSE FROM THE FACTORY". THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, AND THAT "ONE TIRE WOULD'VE WENT ONE WAY AND THE OTHER TIRE WOULD'VE WENT THE OTHER WAY, CAUSING YOUR CAR TO COME TO A SUDDEN HALT". THIS MIGHT HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AND KNOWING THAT I WAS DRIVING THAT CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, TAKING TRIPS WITH MY FAMILY AND CHILDREN, WHILE THE CAR WAS DEFECTIVE WAS VERY SCARY AND UPSETTING. I WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT PURCHASING A NEW CAR, AND HOPED THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THESE KINDS OF PROBLEMS. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND WANT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH HYUNDAI. 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO WINDSHIELD WIPER DESIGN FAILURE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE WIPER BLADE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS VERY SHORT AND THE BOTTOM END OF THE WIPER BLADE LEFT A SEMI-CIRCULAR WATER STREAK RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PERSON SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT ON EVERY WIPE OF THE BLADE. ALSO, THERE WAS A SPOT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELDS WHERE THE PASSENGER WIPER BLADE LEFT A SHORT INVERTED "V" TYPE SPOT THAT THE DRIVER'S WIPER BLADE DID NOT CLEAN WHICH WOULD FREEZE INTO IN THE WINTER. THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WAS TOO SENSITIVE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE HAS ELECTRIC STEERING WHICH MAY BE RELATED TO THE CONDITION. THE STEERING WAS SO SENSITIVE, THAT HE HAD TO CONSTANTLY MOVE THE WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT JUST TO STAY OUT OF THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE AND STAY IN HIS LANE OF TRAFFIC. SEVERAL TIMES, WHILE DRIVING, IN A SLIGHT CROSSING WIND WITH VARIOUS GROUPS OF TREES, THE LEVEL OF STEERING SENSITIVITY FORCED HIM TO RUN OFF THE EDGE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID ENTERING THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. ALSO, ON A FEW OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARDER THAN NORMAL, BUT NOT HARD ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE ABS. WITH THE ELECTRIC ASSISTED STEERING, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO FEEL IF THE VEHICLE WAS CENTERED IN HIS LANE PRIOR TO USING THE BRAKES.
