Subject: 2019 Hyundai Elantra – High Beam Headlight Failure and Warranty Denial To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to document and request review of an ongoing issue with my 2019 Hyundai Elantra regarding an inoperable high-beam headlight system and the handling of my warranty claim. Shortly after a warranty period service, my vehicle’s high beams stopped working correctly. I reported the issue to my Hyundai dealership as soon as it occurred, while the vehicle was still within warranty coverage. The vehicle was inspected by Hyundai, but the warranty claim was denied without a satisfactory explanation. Following Hyundai’s denial, I filed a complaint through the BBB Auto Line, providing the same information and documentation, but the claim was again denied. After researching further, I discovered that Hyundai has issued a service campaign (T5G – Headlamp High Beam Repair) for certain 2019–2020 Elantra models addressing the exact same defect—an inoperable high-beam function due to failure in the headlamp assembly mechanism. Multiple owners have reported identical failures online, and the campaign documents confirm this is a known defect. Because my vehicle clearly exhibits this same defect, I believe my Elantra should be covered under the same campaign or under warranty/goodwill coverage. The failure occurred under normal use, and I reported it promptly. I am requesting: A review of my VIN and confirmation of whether it falls under Service Campaign T5G (Headlamp High Beam Repair). If excluded, a written explanation for the denial and a reconsideration under warranty or goodwill repair. Clarification of why this known defect is not being covered when it matches the campaign description exactly. I am providing this information in good faith and hope Hyundai will stand by its quality and customer service commitments.

My high beam lights have malfunctioned and no longer work. The light on the dash states that my headlights are on but they just flick on for one second and discontinue to work. I live in a rural area and can not see at all when leaving home in the early am hours or when returning home in the evening. I've had to stop on the side of the road at certain times, because I have no visibility. My car is approaching 6 years old with less than 70,000 miles and this is ridiculous. The dealership is charging over 2,000 dollars to fix this issue and I think this is highly unacceptable for a car of this age, especially when I bought the car brand new. I bought a brand new car to avoid issues such as this, but I have seemed to pay the price but not receive the safety that I have paid for. There are so many complaints online for this exact issue. I would highly appreciate if safety is held as a priority for this issue and you all place this as a recall ASAP.

I've replaced the headlights 4 times and the daytime running lights 20 times! Bought and installed 2 entire headlight assemblies... 5 days later right headlight blew out. Ive entered many complaints about this 1 vehicle and conveniently for Hyundai NO recalls!!!! Continuous oil level issue reported the very first time I put the car in the shop.

Aug 10, 2025

I am unable to use the high beams. Low beams are very hard to see with making risky when driving at night. No warning lights.

May 9, 2025

Excessive oil consumption, shudder in motor while driving . Check engine light cam on. Visibility in headlights very low and high beams only working sometimes.

Apr 11, 2025 Crash

The driver and passenger headlight has been replaced and the bulbs but the headlights keep going out was told it is an electrical problem and contact manufacturer. Also emergency braking did not work in recent accident nor did forward collision warning.

No warning light for oil consumption and it depletes rapidly. Also, High beam lights stopped working and you have to hold the signal in place and the high beam still doesn't turn on. Ive had so many issues with this car since purchasing it, it ridiculous and saddening how there hasn't been any recalls and the issue before this one was dangerous and life threatening. Also, since it's purchase it consumes oil at a rapid rate that has been documented and each time I've visited the repair shop they informed 'there's no oil' in the vehicle and no oil light or anything comes on to warn me. I find out about it because of an entirely different issue needing to be fixed.

Problemas con el motor, específicamente la lubricación. El vehículo fue reparado y aún continuó con los problemas de lubricación, incluyendo los llamados " sprocket" que se dañaron. He leído que Hyundai a retirado muchos vehículos por este mismo problema.

tHE HIGH BEAMS DOESNT WORK. INSIDE THE CAR IT SHOWS THE BLUE LOGO LIKE IF THE LIGHTS ARE IN HIGHBEAMS BUT OUTSIDE IT DOESN;T CHANGE. THE LOW BEAMS ARE NOT EFFECTIVE AND I CAN HARDLY SEE AT NIGHT. I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TO SEE IF IS NOT TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX IT BUT MY CAR SHOULD BE PART OF THE RECALL FOR HIGH BEAMS. I DO NOT USE THE CAR OFTEN AND CAN;T USE IT AT NIGHT. I CAN NOT SEE ANYTHING AT NIGHT RESULTING IN THE INABILITY TO USE MY CAR AT NIGHT.

Aug 6, 2024

I am unable to use the high beams. Low beams are very hard to see with making risky when driving at night. No warning lights. I have a service call to dealer. It is available for inspection. No known maintenance issues prior to event.

Jun 11, 2024

The mechanism that exposes the bright part of the head light bulb goes out on this make model vehicle it is a common issue. There is one bulb, only my dim lights work, when I click the bright lights on nothing happens. Very common issue with the vehicle. Nearly 500$ a piece to repair.

May 8, 2024

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, she became aware that the high beam headlights were not functioning. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the headlight housing assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Dec 31, 2023

I was going 40MPH when my car started to produce loud noises and stalled. It immediately lost power and I had to pull over on the side of the road. It started back up after 30 minutes and I was able to drive it home, but it continued to make loud noises and I had to drive very slow. Battery is good with 70% charge and the alternator is good.

Dec 27, 2023

The headlights on this vehicle have been repetitively malfunctioning, the lamps are not burnt out but the high and low beam lights malfunctioning regularly. I have had the system and computer checked, the computer reset. Nothing is appearing to be wrong but my high beam lights are completely non functional for the third time in 3 months

Dec 7, 2023

The electrical plate for the right daytime running light must have fallen out of the engine compartment, according to the dealer service center, because it was no longer there. A warning light appeared on the dashboard system as a yellow triangle enclosing a yellow exclamation mark. It presented a safety issue by causing the warning light to appear on the dashboard panel while the vehicle was being driven. The dealer service center informed me of the cause of the dashboard warning light when I took it to them for diagnosis. There were no warnings prior to the failure.

Nov 23, 2023

When Daylight Savings time changed, I realized that my headlights were not aimed properly. While having them aimed, the tech noticed that the aiming rod had fallen off the track, and the light on the drivers side is shining only five feet from the car, onto the ground, whether on high beams or low beams.

High beams quit working I. Weather conditions and now high beams don’t work period and have to replace head light do to problem with assembly driver side and passenger side high beams don’t work

Aug 10, 2023

Jul 29, 2023

The high beam does not work even after bulb replacement on the 2019 Elantra(the low beams work just fine). A sound of an actuator trying to work is heard coming from the engine with a slight flicker of light but no successful high beam is shown after engaging the high beam actuator on the wheel. This is detrimental to the safety of drivers at night which could lead to a crash, injury, or fatality.

Jun 20, 2023

The high beam nolonger functions. On this make model for this year, the manufacturer uses only one bulb for low and high beam. This is accomplished by using a hood to shield part of the bulb; lowered for low beams, raised for high beams. The problem is the mechanism used to raise and lower the shield is made out of cheap plastic. Whenever the gears break or skip a cog the shield will not raise. Spending 2 labor shop hours to replace two shield mechanisms, cheap plastic parts with cheap plastic parts is not the answer. Multiple owners have ask Hyundai to find a better fix… all for not.

Mar 27, 2023

The high beam headlights don’t function properly. The low beam is all that works on both headlights. Something to do with the way the shield is not moving up to allow the high beams to function. On line looks like this is a common problem

Feb 4, 2023

High beams are not working on both headlight assemblies. Car uses a bulb with 1 filament and actuator to simulate a high beam and both headlight assembly actuators failed on a car with 51k miles. Hyundai has a TSB for this issue, so they are aware of this issue and this needs to be a recall, not just a TSB as this is a major safety issue.

Jan 29, 2023

My high beam lights stopped working. Replaced bulbs and they still don’t work.

Jan 10, 2023

When I was driving in very dark areas I was trying to turn on my high beams. I have manual headlights so I have to push the lever back. I see the high beam logo on the dashboard, but no lights appearing higher than the low beams. I searched up that it’s a common recall for the 2019 Hyundai Elantra’s and I believe I have that problem with my car. I hope that this description helps out in making the decision as soon as possible. Thank you!

Nov 25, 2022

Dim headlights and faulty high beam lights that do not work at all; while the sensor remains lit up on the dash board.

Nov 24, 2022

the high beam actuator has failed which has resulted in loss of high beam usage.

Oct 24, 2022

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH at night, the high-beam headlights failed to work as needed. The contact was able to drive to her destination; however, the contact stated that the vehicle became undrivable at night. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,900.

Mileage: 95,900

Sep 19, 2022

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under an unknown recall for the headlamps; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the headlights occasionally would not illuminate after the vehicle was started or while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that when the headlights failed to illuminate, the warning messages for daytime running lights and headlight and taillight out warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the driver’s headlight needed replacement because it did not illuminate. The contact then stated that the passenger’s side headlight needed replacement; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the repair for the headlights would be out of pocket. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and also informed the contact that the repairs would not be covered for the headlights. The contact stated that the manufacturer referred him to the NHTSA Hotline and informed him that he may seek legal advice. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

The headlight high beams do not function, leaving me unable to see.

Jul 20, 2022

The High beams will not engage lights stay on dim mode

Jul 11, 2022

Trouble code:P0011 Mechanic replaced timing soliend. On driving car home, the engine began shutting down. Took back to mechanic who stated he could not get the engine to repeat trouble. Continue to drive and see what happens. Continued to drive but engine shut down got continuously worse and there is a sound like a fan blade is knocking against something (best way I can describe the noise)which is intermittent. Headlights are very dim. This was noticed late last year. It got so bad that I started to Google it and found there are other companies about this online including that the high beams don't work at all .

Jun 14, 2022

The headlamp actuator inside the headlight assembly that flips to reveal high beams or low beams is made of a cheap, flimsy plastic that wears down quickly. When it is worn down, the rod can no longer control whether high beams or low beams are shown. Because of this, this car is stuck with either high beams or no headlights at all. This is extremely unsafe for nighttime driving as you are stuck being invisible and likely to be hit by another car or alternatively, blinding the other occupants of the road at night. A full headlight assembly replacement is required which numbers to nearly $3000 for both sides. However, the replacement is going to have the same issue down the line due to the non-durable material of the shutter. There have been many complaints on Youtube and Hyundai forums about this exact issue, but there has yet to be a recall of any sort despite the safety hazard this presents.

Mar 13, 2022

both headlights will not show brights is there a recall on this vehicle. I have seen youtube clips showing the autodialers with a recall fix. please advise [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Lights do not shine correctly on road, the dealership says that's how they were made and I even paid for them to put led lights bulbs in. It is dangerous at night driving.

Feb 22, 2022

Headlight stay in Dim mode will not switch to Bright Lights

Nov 18, 2021

Low beam headlights work fine. When engaging the high beam selector the high beams on both the left and right side do not work. There seems to be a lens that does not actuate to enable the high beams to shine.

Sep 13, 2021

Headlights will not go to high beam at times, other times the right side will not return back to low beam. I have had this problem many times and Hyundi replaced both headlights, but now they say they won't fix them because of the miles. This headlight design was new for the 2019 model year, I had a 2018, and a 2017 and had no problems with them. The 2019 has a projection type bulb, and uses a mechanical flap to change from high to low beam. This flap sticks, or fails to operate resulting in very intermittent operation. This is a very poor design and many times oncoming cars get blinded by one of the high beams that doesn't return to low beam. The problem is very intermittent so it doesn't always happen when your in the shop. I have talked to other Hyundi owners having the same problem, and I think this is a safety problem that needs a recall. Replacing these lights will cost about $1,000 and many people out of warranty will not replace them.

Headlight s are defective. At 40,000 miles right side headlight has gone out and very difficult to drive at night time . The dealership said on service invoice. paperwork dated March 21, 2021 that my 2019 Elantra had a recall for lamp Assy- head service kit . It’s says recall Headlight repair (. 21-01-004h

The high beams just stop working. I bring the car to the dealer on March and the dealer said “ order the parts “… I call the dealer 5 times and the guys told me they don’t receive the parts! After 5 month don’t receive the parts? That’s ridiculous… My 2 high beams are dead and I need it!!! I drive in the night and for me is a safety issue because there’s not light in the road I need to take for work.

PASSENGER SEAT BELT ALARM GOES OFF SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT WEIGHT IN IT OR WITH VERY LITTLE WEIGHT LIKE A SMALL PURSE SITTING IN IT WHILE DRIVING AND WILL CONTINUE TO GO OFF FOR PERIODS OF TIME. IT WON'T SHUT OFF EVEN WHEN YOU BUCKLE THE SEAT BELT. HEAD LIGHTS ARE NOT ADDIQUIT FOR LIGHTING THE ROADWAY AT NIGHT AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR I NOTICED A LACK OF CONSIDERABLE LIGHT OUTPUT COMING FROM THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS. TURNING ON THE BRIGHTS IS JUST WORST AS IT LOWERS THE LINE OF SIGHT INSTEAD OF INCREASING IT. THE OVERALL LIGHTS ARE DIM. CHANGING THE BULBS DOES NOTHING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT AS YOU CAN'T SEE VERY WELL.

Nov 17, 2020 Crash

ON OCTOBER 28, 2020 I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO JOE HOLLAND CHEVROLET IN CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA BECAUSE MY HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A FAULTY HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND THAT I WAS AT LEAST THE THIRD PERSON THAT DAY WITH THIS ISSUE. THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IS ON BACK ORDER. SINCE THE TIME CHANGE IT IS NOW DARK BY 5:00 PM AND I DON'T GET OFF WORK UNTIL 5:30 PM. I HAVE HAD TWO DEER STRIKES SINCE NOVEMBER 1, 2020 TO NOVEMBER 17, 2020, BECAUSE I HAVE NO HIGH BEAMS MY VISUAL DISTANCE IS GREATLY REDUCED. THESE TWO DEER STRIKES HAVE COST AN ESTIMATED $8,000.00.

AFTER HAVING MY 2019 HYUNDAI THAT I BOUGHT BRAND NEW MY HEADLIGHTS QUITE SWITCHING TO HIGH BEAMS AND WOULD ONLY RUN LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BUT INSTEAD OF BEING BRIGHT THEY WERE DIMMER THAN WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO BE. I TRIED TO EXCHANGE THE HEADLIGHTS TO SEE IF THE BULBS WERE BURNT OUT AND EVEN WITH BRAND NEW BULBS THE HEAD LIGHTS STILL WOULDN'T SWITCH OVER TO HIGH BEAMS AND WERE STILL VERY DIM WITH BRAND NEW BULBS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE WIRING HARNESS FOR BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND WHAT LOOKED LIKE A RELAY BOARD FOR THE BRIGHT LIGHT SWITCH LOOKED BURNT UP INSTEAD OF IT LOOKING LIKE A SHINY NEW SILVER BOARD. THEN ABOUT A WEEK LATER BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY OUT AND I COULDN'T DRIVE AT NIGHT DUE TO NOT HAVING ANY HEADLIGHTS SO I REPLACED THE BULBS AGAIN AND AGAIN THEY GAVE ME A DIM LIGHT WITH NO HIGH BEAM LIGHTS. SO TO THIS DAY I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH .MY HEADLIGHTS AND NO ONE FROM HYUNDAI CAN SEEM TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON ON THIS BRAND NEW 2019 HYUNDAI ELANTRA SE
