Passenger side, rear brake line rusted to the point where brakes failed one morning. Brake fluid leaking from rusted brake line. Lost braking pressure while driving. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, independent shop Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No
My son was driving this car home from college mid-day on October 8. He had not driven the car for 10 days or so while at school and he did notice the brakes making an unusual sound that day he had never heard. While on the highway, there was a sudden stop ahead of him. When he pressed the brakes they completely stopped working and he rear-ended the car in from of him. The brakes were completely non-functional after the crash and he had to try to stop his car as best as he could without brakes. Luckily there were no injuries, however complete brake failure out of the blue is obviously enormously dangerous. The tow truck driver confirmed that brakes did not work at all and speculated that a "brake-line snapped". I have no idea if that is true or why he thought that. The car is totaled and no inspection of the car has taken place. We have the car at our house and it is available for inspection as we try to figure out what to do with it. There were no warning lights prior to the issue. Less than a week after the accident we received a Notification of Extended Warranty from the car manufacturer regarding a possible issue related to brakes. And we have read about other braking issues that have evidently arisen over the years with this model year car.
SPONGY BRAKE, PEDAL SINK TO THE FLOOR.

MY HYUNDAI DEALER CALLED ME TODAY MAY 15, 2019 AND SAID THAT THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR MY GENESIS BRAKES WOULD COST $2770.00 AT A MINIMUM, MAYBE MORE IF THE WHOLE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED. IN OTHER WORDS; (PLEASE WRITE A BLANK CHECK TO US.) THIS IS A HYUNDAI PROBLEM AS A MANUFACTURER. THEY PUT DOT 3 FLUID IN THE SYSTEM AT BIRTH OF THE CAR AND IT CAUSED CORROSION INTERACTING WITH THE ZINC PLATING INTERNALLY. PROPER TESTING WASN'T DONE PRIOR TO ASSEMBLY SIGNOFF. THE RECALL CHANGED THE FLUID TO DOT 4 AND IN MY CASE THE FLUID WAS NOT PROPERTY DRAINED AND CHANGED AND MY PICTURES OF THE FLUID PROVE THE SEPARATION AND CRUD IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. MANY GENESIS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND HYUNDAI SHOULD BE FORCED TO MAKE THIS REPAIR ON THE AFFECTED CARS. WHAT IS A BIGGER SAFETY CONCERN THEN HAVING YOUR BRAKES GO OUT WHEN APPLIED. MY CAR WON'T STOP AS THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR ALL THE WAY DOWN.THE ABS & ESC LIGHTS COME ON WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE BRAKE FLUID WAS CHANGED IN 2014 AND AGAIN IN 2019. A NEW MASTER CYLINDER, FRONT BRAKE LINES, BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND DIODE WAS INSTALLED IN MARCH 2019. TOOK IT TO DEALER IN APRIL 2019 AND THEY ALL WAS OK EXCEPT ESC LIGHT WAS ON. DROVE IT HOME AND LESS THEN 60 MILES THE BRAKES PETAL AGAIN WENT TO THE FLOOR. TAKING IT BACK TO DEALER IN LIMA, OH ON MAY 15, 2019. I PUT IN A COMPLAINT TO CONSUMER [email protected], BUT THE GIRL WHO RETURNED THE CALL, READ FROM A SCRIPT AND SAID SORRY, YOUR CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. PLEASE REFERENCE YOUR CASE NUMBER 15737333. THIS CAR IS UNFIT TO DRIVE AND FROM OTHER POSTINGS, IT WILL COST $2500 TO REPAIR. THE CARS VALUE IS BETWEEN $3600/5600 DOLLARS.THIS IS AN ON GOING SAFETY PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI HAS PUT OFF MAKING A PROPER REPAIR, RELYING ON TIME AND MILES TO GET OUT OF A SAFETY RECALL. MY BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT COME ON WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. I HAVE HAD THE FUSES CHECKED AND THEY ARE ALL WORKING. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AFTER RESEARCHING THE RECALL ON THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THEY WILL NOT PERFORM THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS ALREADY DONE TWICE. BUT THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLE IF ITS HAPPENING AGAIN.

THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V713000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING) AND 13V113000 (SERVICE BRAKES), BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE LOCATION WAS OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 165,000.

VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE THE STOP LAMPS BLINKING ON AND OFF EVEN WHEN BRAKES ARE NOT APPLIED."
I OWN A 2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS CLEARLY AFFECTED BY THE RECALL ON BRAKE FLUID THAT AFFECTS THE BRAKE MODULE. MY CAR HAS BEEN DEEMED TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, BUT WAS NEVER INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EFFORTS ACCORDING TO MY SERVICE ADVISOR. I BEING ASKED TO PAY AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULE. MY ADVISOR HAS INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN # IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EFFORTS. SO, IT APPEARS THAT ALTHOUGH I OWN A 2009 WHICH IS A YEAR THAT IS AFFECTED WITH THIS PROBLEM....MY SAFETY DOES NOT MATTER FOR SOME REASON. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AND WILL PROBABLY CREATE AN ACCIDENT IF IT IS DRIVEN. MY CAR SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT IS NOT. THE BRAKES CAN BE DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR BOARD AND THE CAR WILL STILL BEGIN TO ROLL FORWARD. IT WILL NOT STOP COMPLETELY! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE BRAKES HAD TO BE PUMPED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKES WERE FINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE FAILURE RECURRED THE VERY NEXT DAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AND THE ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,305.

MY WIFE AND I HAVE BOTH EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. WHILE IN MOTION AND HAVE HAD TO COME TO A STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL BOTTOMS OUT AND HAVE HAD TO PUMP THE PEDAL TO BRING THE CAR TOA STOP. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP; NOTHING WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES.

WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED, AND APPLYING BRAKES, MY BREAK PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. NO LIGHTS OR WARNINGS WERE DISPLAYED. THIS CONDITION CONTINUED UNTIL HOME. THE NEXT MORNING BRAKES WORKED NORMALLY AND HAVE FOR TWO WEEKS NOW.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO STOP SLOWLY. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND CONTINUED TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL TO INCREASE THE TENSION AND THE BRAKE PRESSURE RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.

COLUMBIA HYUNDAI ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE FAILURE IS DUE TO FAILURE OF THE ABS CONTROL BOX. IN OTHER WORDS TOTAL, UN-ANNOUNCED FAILURE OF ANTI SKID CONTROL BOX CAUSED A COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE IN THIS CAR.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES WENT LOW TO THE FLOOR. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE ABS SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2009 GENESIS BUT SINCE THEY HAD CHECKED IT IN 2014 IT WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE FOR US. THIS WAS NOT TRUE AND OTHERS MAY HAVE THE PROBLEM IF THE ABS SYSTEM IS NOT REPLACED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT STIFF AND MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN TO 30 MPH AND WOULD NOT INCREASE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PROCEEDED TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND CALLED ROADSIDE SERVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE ELECTRONIC STABILTY CONTROL LIGHT ILUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS OVERHEATED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,060.

ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2015, WHEN APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. REPEATED PUMPING OF THE PEDAL FINALLY BROUGHT THE CAR TO A STOP. WITHIN AN HOUR A SECOND EVENT OCCURRED ON THE FREEWAY WHEN APPROACHING ANOTHER CAR FROM THE REAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD NO RESISTANCE AND WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. IT HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN. TWO DAYS LATER I TOOK THE CAR (CAREFULLY) INTO THE DEALER. THEY HAVE, AS YET, BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM (AS HYUNDAI REQUIRES FOR WARRANTY CONSIDERATION). HOWEVER, I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS CAR OR LET MY WIFE USE IT UNTIL THIS IS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE. THIS TYPE OF BRAKE FAILURE HAS BEEN NOTED REPEATEDLY IN THE 2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS. I AM STUCK WITH AN UNUSABLE CAR AND A MANUFACTURER WHO WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE SEVERITY OF THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO REPEATEDLY SUBJECT THEIR STAFF TO THE RISK OF AN ACCIDENT BUT HYUNDAI REQUIRES THE PROBLEM BE VALIDATED BY ANOTHER OCCURRENCE WHEN DRIVEN BY DEALER STAFF.

ON 9/16/15 THE BRAKES ON MY 2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS FAILED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AS THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR. I FINALLY GOT THE CAR TO STOP WITH EXCESSIVE PUMPING OF THE BRAKES. ON 9/16/15 I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO JIM ELLIS HYUNDAI TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE CAR AND COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE I HAD EXPERIENCED EARLIER IN THE DAY. THE DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR AND DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS AND NOW THE BRAKES SEEM TO BE WORKING FINE. MY CAR HAS 115,561 MILES. THIS IS THE SECOND VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM. ON 04/30/15, I BROUGHT IN THE CAR FOR TWO RECALLS, ONE THAT INCLUDED A BRAKE FLUID FLUSH. A MONTH LATER, I HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THAT CAUSED ME TO LOSE BRAKE PRESSURE.AFTER A FEW DAYS THE PROBLEM SUBSIDED. I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS AUTOMOBILE, ESPECIALLY AFTER READING SO MANY SIMILAR INCIDENTS ALREADY FILED WITH THE GOVERNMENT.

ON 5/11/15 THE BRAKES ON MY 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS FAILED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AS THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR. ON 5/12/15 I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO GLOBAL AUTO MALL AND DROVE VERY SLOWLY TO THE DEALER, PUMPING THE BRAKES AT EVERY STOP ALONG THE WAY TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. GLOBAL AUTO MALL DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY UNDER WARRANTY. MY CAR HAD 45,381 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. ON 8/29/15 THE BRAKES ON MY 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS FAILED AGAIN AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AS THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR. ON 8/31/15 I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO GLOBAL AUTO MALL DRIVING VERY SLOWLY TO THE DEALER, PUMPING THE BRAKES AT EVERY STOP ALONG THE WAY TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. MY CAR HAD 49,179 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. GLOBAL AUTO MALL HAS STATED THAT AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR THEY DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS AND NOW THE BRAKES ARE WORKING FINE. A RECALL ON THE BRAKING FLUID THAT CAUSED CORROSION ON THE ABS MODULE WAS PERFORMED ON MY CAR ALREADY, BUT THERE IS NO WAY FOR THE TECHNICIAN TO ACTUALLY CHECK FOR CORROSION INSIDE THE ABS ASSEMBLY. I DO NOT FEEL THAT THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THE BRAKES ARE GOING TO FAIL AGAIN, AS NOTHING WAS REPAIRED ON MY VEHICLE.

AT APPROXIMATELY 7:50AM ON MY WAY TO WORK, HEADING WESTBOUND ON RODEO RD AND WAS GOING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AT CLOVERDALE MY CAR STALLED. DURING THE STALL THE ENGINE CUTOFF AND THE ELECTRICAL POWER IN THE CAR SEEMED TO RESET ITSELF. AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP, I COULD FEEL THE BRAKES NOT WORKING AND I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE BY PUSHING ON THE START/STOP BUTTON. WHEN THAT DIDN'T WORK, ALL THE POWER IN THE CAR WENT OUT AND NOTHING WORKED, NO EMERGENCY LIGHTS, NO POWER ANYTHING. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD THEM TOW TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST WAS ON SUNDAY NIGHT SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2015 AT AROUND 8PM IN SAN JOSE. I PUT THAT AS A COMPLAINT ON THIS SYSTEM AT THAT TIME.

BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST WENT TO FLOOR BEFORE IT STARTED TO COME TO A STOP. WE DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING BECAUSE WE WERE IN PARKING LOT BUT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM STARTED SUDDENLY AND HAS CONTINUED. THE CAR IS NOW IN A REPAIR SHOP. THERE WAS A RECALL TO REPLACE THE BRAKE FLUID AND THIS WAS DONE IN JANUARY 2014. THE WRONG BRAKE FLUID WAS IN THE CAR FOR FOUR YEARS BEFORE IT WAS REPLACED. IT SEEMS REASONABLE THAT THIS CURRENT BRAKE FAILURE IS DUE TO THE FOUR YEARS OF IMPROPER BRAKE FLUID ALTHOUGH HYUNDAI WILL TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS BRAKE ISSUE. *TR

THE RECALL REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE HECU NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT NEARLY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE CAR BEGAN TO DECELERATE. IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE CAR COULD ONLY SLOW MODERATELY REGARDLESS OF HOW HARD I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THERE WAS NO BRAKE ENGAGEMENT AT THE TOP OF THE PEDAL TRAVEL. AT HOME, I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE PEDAL DISPLACEMENT RELATIVE TO THE FIREWALL AND CAN PROVIDE THEM. PHOTO 1 SHOWS THE STATE OF THE PEDAL WHEN I ARRIVED HOME. PUMPING THE BRAKE PEDAL LED TO INCREASED "FEEL" AND RESTORING BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS. PHOTO 2 SHOWS A LARGER GAP TO THE FIREWALL AFTER 5 PEDAL REPETITIONS, AND WITH INCREASED FORCE APPLIED. PHOTO 3 SHOWS AN EVEN LARGER GAP AFTER ~20 PEDAL REPETITIONS AND EVEN HIGHER FORCE APPLIED. THE FINAL PHOTO SHOWS THAT AT MAXIMUM FORCE, I COULD ONLY GET THE PEDAL TO ~3" FROM THE FIREWALL. THIS WAS SIMILAR TO THE STATE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN THIS MORNING, AND FELT "NORMAL" IN TERMS OF PEDAL EFFORT AND TRAVEL. TO REITERATE: DURING THE FAILURE, THE PEDAL WOULD PUSH TO WITHIN 2" OF THE FIREWALL WITH MINIMAL EFFORT, AND WITH LITTLE BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS. I COULD NOT HAVE PERFORMED A PANIC BRAKING MANEUVER IN THIS STATE, AND ONLY CONTINUED TO DRIVE DUE TO THE LACK OF TRAFFIC AND PROXIMITY TO MY HOME. IN JULY 2014, I VISITED MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO TAKE CARE OF A RECALL NOTICE THAT I HAD RECEIVED AND THEY PROMPTLY TOOK CARE OF TWO RECALLS, ONE OF WHICH WAS CAMPAIGN 114 - REPLACING BRAKE FLUID AND INSPECTING THE HYDRAULIC ECU (HECU). THE RECALL HAS TO DO WITH THE OLD FLUID CORRODING PORTIONS OF THE HECU AND CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE. WELL TO THAT POINT, I HAD NOT HAD ANY BRAKE FAILURES OR PROBLEMS, BUT IT WAS WITHIN A WEEK OF THE INSPECTION I APPLIED THE BRAKES VERY HARD TO STOP AND AVOID HITTING A CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, THE BRAKES WORKED FINE, BUT UPON HITTING THE BRAKES A SECOND TIME, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR BEFORE ANY BRAKING WAS APPLIED TO THE WHEELS. THEY SAID THIS WOULD COST ABOUT $3,000 AND THEY CONTACTED MY EXTENDED WARRANTY INSURANCE CARRIER TO ATTEMPT TO GET THE COST COVERED BY INSURANCE. A DAY LATER THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAD SENT AN INSPECTOR OUT TO TEST DRIVE THE CAR AND WOULD SEND ANOTHER INSPECTOR TOMORROW TO INSPECT THE HECU AND ABS MODULE AND THEY'RE STILL ATTEMPTING TO WORK WITH THEM TO GET THE COST COVERED. THE TECH TOOK ME ON THE SIDE AND SAID THE FLUID THAT WAS IN THERE ATTRACTED METAL SHAVINGS THAT PROBABLY CAUSED THE MASTER CYLINDER SEAL TO FAIL. UPON CLICKING THE LINK I WAS PROVIDED FURTHER INFORMATION INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING: "HYUNDAI WILL INSPECT THE HECU MODULE FOR PROPER OPERATION, AND WILL REPLACE THE MODULES AS NECESSARY." AFTER RECEIVING A NOTICE FROM HYUNDAI FOR A DIFFERENT RECALL (13V113), I CONTACTED HYUNDAI, AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE RECALL SERVICE FOR BOTH CAMPAIGNS DONE AT CAROUSEL HYUNDAI, WEST CHESTER, PA ON 12/17/2013. CAROUSEL INSISTED THE BRAKE FLUID SERVICE WAS BASED DID NOT INCLUDE COMPONENT INSPECTION BASED ON SERVICE BULLETIN 13-01-006-02, AND FAILED TO PERFORM AN INSPECTION, BUT NOTED ON MY INVOICE "COMPLETED CAMPAIGN TL6 AS REQUIRED." ON 12/30/13, I CONTACTED HYUNDAI BY TELEPHONE, ASKED WHY THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE PROPER INFORMATION TO PERFORM THE INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE ON 12/17/13. I WAS THEN INFORMED THAT IF I WANTED THE BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS INSPECTED FOR CORROSION DAMAGE, I WOULD NEED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN ADDITIONAL RECALL SERVICE. SINCE NHTSA PROVIDED ME WITH THE PROPER RECALL INFORMATION FOR THIS CAMPAIGN ON 11/5/13, IT IS NOT CLEAR WHY HYUNDAI FAILED TO PROVIDED THIS INFORMATION TO THEIR AUTHORIZED SERVICE NETWORK UNTIL AFTER 12/17/13, MORE THAN 30 DAYS LATER, RESULTING IN IMPROPER SERVICING TO COMPLETE THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN. I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP SO UNFORTUNATELY I STRUCK THE VEHICLE INFRONT OF ME. ALL REPAIRS WERE FINISHED ON 8/29/13. AS I BACKED INTO MY DRIVEWAY I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. I CONTACTED THE AUTO BODY SHOP AND THEY LOOKED AT IT THE NEXT DAY. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT IN DIRECT RELATION TO THEIR SERVICES RENDERED BUT THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEY ALSO ADVISED ME THAT MY BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED SOFT AND SHOULD ALSO BE LOOKED AT. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE BRAKE FLUID AND STOP LIGHT SWITCH. THE BRAKE LIGHTS STARTED WORKING AGAIN PRIOR TO MY APPOINTMENT SO I ENDED UP CANCELING IT. IN EARLY NOV I NOTICED MY BRAKE LIGHTS AGAIN WERE NOT WORKING. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AND THEY FIXED THE BRAKE FLUID AND STOP LIGHT SWITCH SAYING THEY WERE RECALLED. THEY ALSO ADVISED ME THAT MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND SHOULD HAVE IT LOOKED AT BUT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSIS AND/OR REPAIRS. WHEN I GOT HOME AGAIN, I BACKED INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING EVEN THOUGH I JUST LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FIXED IT. RECALLS ARE STATING THAT THE PREVIOUS BRAKE FLUID MAY CORRODE THE BRAKE MODULE REDUCING BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS POSSIBLY ENDING IN A CRASH AND THAT THE STOP LIGHTS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED ON OTHER CARS. SINCE IT WAS MIDNIGHT, THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF TRAFFIC, WHICH ALLOWED ME THE TIME TO STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL REPEATEDLY UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL ENGAGED. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP SUNDAY MORNING AND THEY HAD IT TOWED IN, AGAIN. NOW I HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT THEY FIND. HYUNDAI USA SAID THEY DID AN INQUIRY WITH MY DEALERSHIP AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT AND INSURED ME THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. HYUNDAI USA SAID THEY WOULD BE PUTTING IN FOR THEIR OWN ?INVESTIGATION? AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE 6-8 WEEKS. IN THE MEANTIME, I HAVE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WHICH IS CLEARLY NOT SAFE. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT IS HYUNDAI USA HAS TO DO THEIR OWN INVESTIGATION. ON SATURDAY AT 8:55 AM THE DEALERSHIPS GOT BACK TO ME AND GUESS WHAT THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO THE SERVICE AGENT TOLD ME HE HAD DRAINED THE BRAKES AND BLED THE LINES AND CHANGED THE BRAKE FLUID TO DOT 4 AND THE CAR WAS READY TO PICK UP. I TOLD HIM HE WAS GOING TO HAVE TO SPEAK TO MY HUSBAND BECAUSE I FELT HE WAS BEING VERY CONDESCENDING AND SHORT WITH ME. MY HUSBAND SPOKE WITH HIM AND HE AGREED HE WOULDN'T WANT HIS WIFE DRIVING THE CAR EITHER, SO HIS RECOMMENDATION WAS TO LEAVE THE CAR AND HAVE THE MANAGER DRIVE THE CAR FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEKEND TO SEE IF HE COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER HAD FAILED AND BECAUSE MY MILEAGE WAS 2,930 OVER THE 60K LIMIT IT WOULD NOT BE A WARRANTY REPAIR. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE BRAKE LIGHT DIODE HAS GONE OUT IN 29000 MILES. THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT OR INDICATOR THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OUT. BOTH TIMES IT WAS CAUGHT DURING AN OIL CHANGE. *TR

ON A TOTAL OF FOUR OCCASIONS NOW I HAVE HAD TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE--BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR WHEN MOVING. THE VEHICLE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT. MULTIPLE PARTS WERE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED A SECOND TIME THEREAFTER. I CAPTURED IT ON VIDEO, AS THE PROBLEM WAS NOT DUPLICATING AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS FAULTY AND REPLACED IT. ALMOST EIGHT MONTHS TO THE DAY LATER (TODAY), THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. IT IS INTERMITTENT AND RANDOM. THE BRAKE PEDAL LITERALLY PUSHES TO THE FLOOR, ALMOST AS IF NO FLUID IS IN THE LINES. THERE ARE NO RECALLS, TSBS, ETC. I HAVE POSTED THIS IN ONLINE FORUMS AND SOUGHT ANSWERS. SO FAR NO LUCK. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A CRASH AND POSSIBLY INJURY OCCUR. I AM VERY CLOSE TO PARTING WAYS WITH THE CAR. BRAKES ARE LIKE JET ENGINES; THEY REALLY NEED TO WORK ALL THE TIME. ON DECEMBER 28TH I WAS DRIVING IN MY '09 V6 GENESIS ON THE INTERSTATE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND I TOOK A DOWNHILL EXIT WITH A STOP SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL. THANK THE UNIVERSE THAT THE ROAD WAS EMPTY BECAUSE AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR BARELY SLOWED DOWN AT ALL. AS I GOT CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE STOP SIGN I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES ABOUT 4 MORE TIMES WITH THEM GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR EACH TIME. THE CAR FINALLY SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR. AS NOBODY WAS AT THE SIGN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL I WAS ABLE TO COAST SLOWLY THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AND TURN LEFT TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO TRY THE BRAKES AGAIN. THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR ABOUT 4 MORE TIMES AND THEN THE PRESSURE FINALLY RETURNED. THIS IS SOME SCARY STUFF SINCE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT I WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO SOMEONE HAD I BEEN DRIVING DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND THERE BEEN A LINE TO GET OFF THE INTERSTATE. I GOT THE CAR HOME SAFELY THAT AFTERNOON AND PARKED IT TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY FOR VACATION. I RETURNED ON THE NIGHT OF NEW YEARS DAY AND DROPPED THE CAR OFF ON THE MORNING ON JANUARY 2ND. THE DEALER SAID THEY WOULD LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. I GOT A CALL FROM THEM YESTERDAY SAYING THEY CANNOT REPEAT THE PROBLEM (OF COURSE) BUT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER ON A GENESIS JUST LAST WEEK FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IRONICALLY ENOUGH I WAS SPEAKING WITH MY COWORKER ABOUT THIS (HE HAS A GENESIS) AND HE SAID HIS DAD HAS A GENESIS AND JUST HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM 2 WEEKS AGO, TO WHICH THE DEALER REPLACED SOME ABS PARTS ON HIS CAR.
