2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 13V-489. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING NOISE. WHILE BRAKING. ALL FOUR ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND REPLACED. THE VEHICLE MADE A WHINE NOISE AT COLD STARTS. TRANSMISSION ASSMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE NOISE CONTINUED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONSUMER TO TRANSPORT THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED.
Brake system failure. Brake pedal and goes all the way to the floor. Hyundai dealership explained that the HECU has failed. In 2014 there was a recall on this car for this issue, Hyundai Recall 114. This recall was for "GENESIS SEDAN HECU INSPECTION AND BRAKE FLUID REPLACEMENT". The known issue is that the part breaks down over time and just changing the brake fluid doesn’t stop the corrosion process. The HECU part should have been replaced and not allowed to degrade further as it has now done on my vehicle.
APPROACHED AN EXIT FROM A PARKING LOT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKE. WAS ABLE TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL AND GET THE BRAKES TO WORK. THE PEDAL NOW IS ABOUT HALF OF WHAT IT USED TO BE AND REQUIRES PUMPING EACH TIME THE BRAKES ARE USED TO APPLY THE BRAKES. PEDAL IS ERRATIC; SOMETIMES I HAVE ABOUT HALF PEDAL BEFORE A FIRM BRAKE PEDAL. OTHER TIMES IT IS EVEN LOWER. I HAVE NO PICTURES OR DOCUMENTATION TO INCLUDE THAT WOULD BE RELEVANT TO THIS ISSUE.

THE ISSUE BEGAN SUDDENLY AND HAS BEEN CONSISTENT WITH THE VEHICLE SINCE THAT POINT. THE BRAKES NOT BEING FULLY FUNCTIONAL RENDER THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE UNDER ANY DRIVING CONDITIONS. CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT TURNS ON INTERMITTENTLY AND CRUISE CONTROL IS FEQUENTLY UNAVAILABLE ON THE CAR.

THE BRAKE PEDAL OF MY CAR IS SOFT AND DEEP, AND THE BRAKING IS NOT DONE PROPERLY. AFTER ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF, THE SYMPTOMS APPEARED AND I CHANGED THE BRAKE PADS. EVERY DAY DRIVING IS A CONTINUATION OF TENSION. I WENT TO THE DESIGNATED SERVICE CENTER AND INSPECTED IT. DURING THE RE-RUN, THE SAME PHENOMENON CONTINUED, AND AFTER A WEEK AGAIN, I HAD TO CHANGE THE ABS MODULE. HOW MUCH OF AN ABS MODULE DOES IT HAVE GROUNDED LIKE A BRAKE PAD? I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT. I LOOKED AT THE INTERNET AND THE MODEL I WAS RIDING WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL.
I OWN A 2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS AND EXPERIENCE A VERY LOW GRIP ON MY BRAKE PEDAL. IT HAS JUST BEEN CONFIRMED FROM A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THAT THE HECU IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (11/20/19). HYUNDAI HAS RECALLED CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2012 GENESIS SEDANS UNDER RECALL 114 OR NHTSA CAMPAIGN 13V489 FOR THE HECU. I HAVE BEEN TOLD, HOWEVER, THAT MY VIN DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE SAFETY REPAIR. I FIND IT HIGHLY UNUSUAL THAT I AM EXPERIENCING THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM THAT SO MANY OTHER GENESIS SEDANS HAVE FACED, YET AM BEING DENIED THE NECESSARY REPAIR. I AM ASKING THAT MY VIN BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AS I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AT THIS POINT. KEEPING IN MIND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AS WELL, ALL GENESIS SEDANS MADE DURING 2009 AND 2012 SHOULD BE RE-LOOKED AT AGAIN. ON OCTOBER 23RD, 2019, THE BRAKES ON MY 2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS R-SPEC SEDAN SUDDENLY FAILED WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED LUCKILY AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE HAS 79K MILES. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN ST. LOUIS PARK, MN AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS FAULTY AND REPLACED. THE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE AS THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STILL SPONGY AND GOING TO THE FLOOR INTERMITTENTLY. I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM FIX IT CORRECTLY. WHILE RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, I HAVE FOUND THAT MULTIPLE OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME CAR HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE AND THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE ABS HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) AS IT CONTAINED CORROSION WITHIN THE UNIT DUE TO BAD DESIGN WHICH CAUSES HYDRAULIC BRAKING FAILURE TO OCCUR AT ANY TIME. THIS CAMPAIGN/RECALL BELOW OUTLINES THE ISSUE WHICH I AM GOING TO PRESENT TO THE DEALER TO FIX CORRECTLY AS I AM STILL UNDER WARRANTY. TO ME, THIS IS A LIFE OR DEATH TYPE FAILURE AND COULD RESULT IN INJURIES. HYUNDAI SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING ALL ABS HECU BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST FOR ALL 2009-2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS, NOT JUST SOME VINS THAT THEY DEEMED TROUBLESOME. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TODAY 08/23/19, IT TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD, BARELY ESCAPING REAR ENDS OF SEVERAL VEHICLES ON THE HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF A BRAKE FLUID LEAK. THERE IS THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR. HAVING ENTERED MY VIN # INTO THIS SITE HAS PROVIDED NO RECALLS. ALTHOUGH READING EVERYTHING ABOUT NO.114, THAT I HAVE SOUNDS LIKE IT SHOULD BE AND IT SHOULD BE CORRECTED. SOME PEOPLE, WHO HAVE ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM, SAID THAT THE BRAKE FLUID USED WAS CAUSING FAILURE IN THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER VALVES. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURER ERROR, AND HYUNDAI SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. I HAVE UNFORTUNATELY HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR DUE TO THIS SAFETY HAZARD OVER HOUR AND A HALF FROM HOME. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED/FIXED QUICKLY.

BRAKE FAILING, DEALER DIAGNOSIS (ATTACHED) SAID THAT THE BRAKE FLUID HAS ALREADY BEEN CHANGE BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THAT THE HECU THAT IS FAILING SHOULD BE AT MY CHARGE. CAR ONLY HAS 70,000 MILES, 5 YEARS OLD , I ARGUED THAT THIS UNIT SHOULD NOT BEEN FAILING AND THAT THEY MAY HAVE TAKE TOO LONG TO CHANGE THE FLUID THAT CAUSED CORROSION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED. AT EVERY STOP, THE CONTACT HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL TO BUILD UP THE PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (NALLEY HYUNDAI, 7909 MALL PKWY, LITHONIA,GA, 30038) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE SAME FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT OF THE RECALL. THE MECHANIC RECOMMENDED THE CONTACT GO BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V489000 (SERVICE BRAKES); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT REFERENCE THE RECALL. DUE TO THE WARRANTY AND BECAUSE THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE, THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 50MPH WHEN A LARGE TRUCK RAN THROUGH A STOPLIGHT ON 9/10/2017. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE SLOWED AND I WAS ABLE TO NARROWLY AVOID THE TRUCK ACTUALLY BY INCHES. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER AND HAS HAD THE ABS BRAKE MODULE REPLACED. THE BRAKE FLUID RECALL TL6 WAS PERFORMED 6/17/2013. ON 5/26/2016 I TOOK THE GENESIS TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF A SIMILAR BRAKE FAILURE. DEALER TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AND SENT ME HOME WITH THE CAR. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED THAT THIS HAS BEEN A DANGER WITH THIS CAR. I FEEL IT IS A SERIOUS DANGER TO ME AND TO THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC AND I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE DANGER WHEN THE FLUID RECALL WAS DONE IN 2013.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR TO WORK I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES SUDDENLY WENT SOFT. THE CAR WOULD SLOW DOWN WHEN I HIT THE PEDAL BUT IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR I HAD TO NEARLY PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. LATER IN THE SAME DRIVE THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. I DIDN'T NOTICE ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES FOR AT LEAST A WEEK UNTIL MY DAUGHTER DROVE THE CAR AND NEARLY HIT SOMEONE BECAUSE THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP AS SHE EXPECTED. I NOTICED THAT IF I PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL THE PRESSURE WOULD RETURN FOR A WHILE BUT THEN IT WOULD GO SOFT AGAIN ONCE I DROVE IT AND THE PEDAL IS PRESSED. AT THE POINT THE PRESSURE WOULD NOT RETURN CONSISTENTLY AND IT WAS QUESTIONABLE IF THE CAR WOULD STOP I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THE ABS MODULE HAS FAILED AND THAT IT WOULD BE A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE MY BRAKES WOULD TOTALLY FAIL. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF THE ABS MODULE FAILING. NO ABS LIGHT; NO BRAKE LIGHT; NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. FOR THIS TO AFFECT THE SAFETY SYSTEM OF THE CAR I WOULD EXPECT THERE TO BE SOME TYPE OF INDICATION OF FAILURE. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE MODULE IS $2200 FOR REPLACEMENT! THE CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD WHY WOULD THE ABS MODULE FAIL IN SUCH A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE?

2012 HYUNDAI GENESIS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BRAKE SYSTEM RECALL. *SMD THE CONSUMER WANTED TO VOICE HIS CONCERN ABOUT THE RECALL THAT WAS ANNOUNCED, AND HOW THE DOT 3 BRAKE FLUID WAS SUSPECTED OF CAUSING CONTAMINATION OF THE HECA. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS BRAKE FLUID WAS REPLACED WITH DOT 4 WHEN HYUNDAI PERFORMED THE TSB. HOWEVER, THE SAME HECA UNIT REMAINED IN HIS VEHICLE. THE NEW RECALL STATED FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURER AFTER JUNE 1, 2010 DEALERS WOULD FLUSH THE HECU ASSEMBLY/VALVES AND BRAKE SYSTEM USING HYUNDAI'S DEALER DIAGNOSTIC TOOL AND CHANGE THE BRAKE FLUID WITH FLUID CONTAINING ADDITIONAL CORROSION INHIBITOR ADDITIVE. THE RECALL MADE NO MENTION ON INSPECTING THE HECU INTERNALS FOR CORROSION. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, HOW CAN HYUNDAI ASSURE HIM THAT HIS HECU HAS NO CORROSION, EVEN IN THE SLIGHTEST MEASUREMENT.
I HAVE HAD NO ACCIDENTS FOR OVER 20 YEARS, NOW I HAVE TWO FENDER BENDERS - REAR END COLLISIONS. THE FIRST ONE, 10/07/11, WAS AT LESS THAN OR ABOUT 5MPH AND I REMEMBER BRAKING AS USUAL BUT IT FAILED TO STOP AND REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. ONLY MINOR DAMAGES DUE TO THE SPEED INVOLVED. NEXT, TODAY 11/14/11, I BRAKED WHEN A TRUCK CUT ME OFF AND MERGED ON TO THE FREEWAY FROM AN EXIT ONLY LANE AT THE LAST MINUTE, STILL IT MADE CONTACT WITH THAT TRUCK, THIS TIME MODERATE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND NONE TO THE TRUCK. THE SPEED HERE WAS ABOUT 10-15MPH. I HAVE OBSERVED THAT WHEN I PUT MY LEG ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE STARTING, IT GOES DOWN A LITTLE BIT WHICH MAY BE NORMAL, BUT, I AM AFRAID THAT SUCH A TRAVEL / PLY COULD HAVE HAPPENED DURING THE ABOVE TWO COLLISIONS BECAUSE I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT IT TRAVELED EVEN AFTER I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. *TR
