Vehicle: 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan (3.8L) Issue Type: Exterior Lighting / Electrical System Description of the Problem: I am reporting an intermittent electrical failure affecting the rear lighting and backup safety systems on my 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The vehicle’s reverse lights, tail lights, and backup camera intermittently fail and flicker, especially when the trunk is opened or moved. This behavior has worsened over time. The failure appears to be related to wiring in the trunk area, as opening or closing the trunk causes the lights and camera to flicker or stop functioning. This issue affects multiple systems simultaneously, including: •Reverse (backup) lights •Tail lights •Backup camera License plate lighting The reverse lights and backup camera sometimes do not function at night, and the tail lights may flicker or go out. Safety Incident / Near Miss: At night, while backing up, I nearly struck a pedestrian because: •I could not clearly see behind the vehicle due to the backup camera and reverse lights not functioning, and •The pedestrian did not realize the vehicle was backing up because the reverse lights were not illuminated. No injury occurred, but this was a serious near-miss involving a pedestrian at night. Additional Information: I have since learned that Hyundai has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for 2015–2016 Genesis vehicles related to damage or failure of the trunk wiring harness, which can cause loss of rear lighting and backup camera function. My vehicle’s symptoms match the conditions described in the bulletin. This issue appears to be a design-related wiring failure caused by normal trunk operation, not misuse or modification. Current Status: The problem is ongoing and worsening. Rear lighting and backup safety systems are unreliable and fail intermittently without warning.
I've been bringing my car to a repair shop over and over for the past month. Myself and the repair shop had to put a quart of oil once a week in the vehicle. I have spent on numerous things to get down to the problem. The engine is leaking oil. I downloadwd proof leading to the problem I need to get fixed. The problem is still there
I just purchased a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 4 door sedan 1/10/2025. Randomly lately the car does a slight jerk and the screen goes black, that happened about 5 times in just a few weeks. twice the car shutoff and back on at slow speed coming to a stop, and then entering into a parking lot. same day at 65-70 mph on the freeway it jerked hard and the engine turned off and on. Very scary and dangerous!! I did not see anything on recalls that would pertain to this happening. All recalls have been done on this car, that's what it indicated. Service guy wasn't sure. this is a random thing. I could leave my car with them but they'd have to drive it a lot for long periods before it might actually happen again.
The trunk of the car stopped opening with the “open trunk button” from inside the car and also does not work with the key fob option. The trunk now needs to be opened by key from key fob everytime. Water is leaking through the trunk of the car and cause to have mold in the car. An electrical problem with the audio of the car stopped working. The radio or bluetooth no longer works due to the audio no longer working. The driver side front window does not work due to an electrical problem.
Oil pressure sensor failed (known issue with this engine) and causes the oil light to go off and on while idling and in motion. Part has a manufacturer recall already in Korea but not in the US for the same issue
Factory recall 24V-107: On [XXX] took car to Haselwood Hyundai of Bremerton WA. for MANF. recall Genesis Starter Solenoid water contamination. Recall was completed in 2 hours when driving home car went into emergency mode and shut down on freeway with completely dead battery. Was told by dealership they would not pay 1200 tow bill. Applied for AAA membership and was approved. Car was towed back to dealership on August 28th with approx. 100 miles driven since Aug 9th. Dealership had no idea that costs would be reimbursed by Hyundai. Had they known this the car would have been towed ASAP after breakdown. Note: This vehicle had no issues prior to this factory recall being installed. On August 29 service adviser Brandon said Alternator and battery needed replacement. This made no sense because car had no electrical problems prior to factory install. Authorized dealer to replace this equipment if necessary since I would be reimbursed. Sept 2nd Paid dealer $1,567.00 for repairs. After leaving dealer car ran for 62 miles went into emergency mode with completely dead battery. Sept 3rd car again towed into dealership. My car has run for a total of 4 hours since Aug 9th factory recall repair. I've been without transportation going on 4 weeks because of this incident. Hence, I write to text to you asking for assistance in getting this incident over with. I thank you in advance for your time and interest in this request. With no aparent reason (no impact event) the glass panel between the windshield and sunroof has shattered.
UNKNOWN I drove it to work then it started spilling oil and wouldn't start so got it towed over to a shop and got it diagnosed and they said it was the motor and they didn't work on motors so I found a shop that did work on motors and they put a new used engine in and then the shop told me that all it needed was flashed and it will work again so I went to hyundai to get that done and they told me they couldn't get it done because of 6 codes the shop needed to get off and fixed so I waited some more for them to fix it they still didn't so I was not going to pay them anymore so here it sits in my parking lot broken down still
It has been over five months since I was notified about this recall and nothing has been done sense then. I am extremely unhappy with Genesis.
lights went completely off when I turned my brights off . My traction control and my parking sensors are faulty and car smells like it's going to catch fire gets super super hot
After having repeat brake issues and bringing the brake issues to the attention of the authorized dealer: Steele Hyundai South Loop in Houston, TX. There was no resolution. I visited with the management of Steele Hyundai on March [XXX], 2023. I was in a car accident on March [XXX], 2023 where brake failure occurred. I took the vehicle to Firestone on March [XXX], 2023 for a full inspection. Firestone determined the brakes were not repaired properly. The left rear passenger door does not open from inside or outside. I have looked online and see that this or similar problems affect many Genesis sedans as well as other Hyundai vehicles. We needed to seat two young children in the back seat and realized how dangerous it is if something happens and the car door can't be opened from inside or outside. How would rescue teams extract the passenger? How could the passenger extract him/herself? Many people reported paying a lot of money to the dealership to repair this problem. I believe this is a safety hazard that the company should be responsible for. This problem began recently, with no warning. The key fob does not open the door either.
Got oil changed at Genesis dealership at 79K miles. Within a day, Low Oil Pressure light began to turn on and off sporadically. Usually showing up when idling and turning off while accelerating. Took car back to dealership and they identified a faulty oil switch (which appears to require a significant amount of labor to access/replace). This has already been recalled in Korea as it has been happening to many vehicles around the 60-70K mile mark and it is a major safety issue (people driving with a faulty sensor may get complacent on urgency if the warning light). I sincerely hope Hyundai/Genesis USA issues a recall for the faulty oil pressure switch issue and this most definitely should be covered under the 100K miles Powertrain warranty.
The Oil pressure sensor is faulty. The light comes on when it's cold temperatures outside. Upon revving the engine above 1500RPMs or so, the oil pressure sensor light goes off.
I was driving on the interstate and the sunroof suddenly shattered and glass fell into the car. With the falling glass it was startling and without a calm response could have resulted in a multiple car crash and potential fatalities. Also, the falling glass could've caused physical injury. I was told by the local dealership to wait for 50 days before they would be available to inspect it. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to it happening.
The electronic parking brake system engaged and remained engaged such that the car could not be driven. It could not be reset through any available means and no manual method exists. This occurred while the vehicle was stopped thus not a substantial safety risk for the particular episode, however this was a complete failure of a portion of the braking system which made it impossible to move the vehicle. It was towed on a flatbed truck and required skates under the rear tires to be placed on the truck. The Hyundai dealer confirmed that the entire system must be replaced and the vehicle remains disabled at the dealer as the parts are not available. There were no warning indicators, until the event occurred when the EPB and AUTOHOLD indicators lit, and the vehicle diagnostic system alerted a problem with the electronic parking brake system.
I was driving in the road about 50mph and with the wet road. I lost the car control without any reason, even with the low speed. Looks like the break or the ABS system wasn’t working and I got hydroplaning and an accident.
The contact owned a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while attempting to stop at a stop sign, the vehicle independently accelerated while the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. The contact stated that all of the electrical features in the vehicle failed. The air bags did deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained chest burns from the air bag and a sore back and neck from the crash. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 21V160000 (Service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and informed the contact that they would expedite the claim. The failure mileage was 61,000.

There is an electrical issue that could malfunction internally and cause an electrical short, potentially resulting in an engine compartment fire. The front bulb for the daylight running lamps/ lane changing blinker has been consistently stopped working and/or blown out. The dealer where I purchased the vehicle has worked on the vehicle a minimum of six times, changing the electrical harnesses (among other things) with no success. When looking up this issue on the internet, other owners have reported this problem with the 2015 model and older Hyundai Genesis. Hyundai did changed the daylight running lights in 2016. On a few occasions (3 times), the headlights turned off at night which may or may not be related. I have another appointment in ten days to address the situation once again.

WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT ON A CITY STREET WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC, BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE CAR STARTED JERKING VIOLENTLY, AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. THE CAR THEN LOST POWER AND THEN POWER STEERING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MAN HANDLE THE CAR INTO A HARD RIGHT AND AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THIS WAS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO JIM ELLIS HYUNDAI, 5785 PEACHTREE IND. BLVD., CHAMBLEE GA FOR REPAIR. THE SHOP WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE ANY PROBLEM AND DID NOT FIX ANYTHING RELATED TO BRAKES OR POWER STEERING. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED BACK BY THE DEALER AND SENT TO AUCTION TO BE SOLD. SO MUCH FOR THE NEXT OWNER.....

ON 8/3/19 DRIVING ON ACADEMY ST. IN NEWARK NJ @7:50 AM, AT THE RED LIGHT ON ACADEMY & WASHINGTON ST. MY BRAKES FAILED WITH NO WARNING, AND I ROLLED THRU A RED LIGHT WHERE THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. I WAS ABLE BACK UP AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT AS A BUS WAITED. ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AFTER MY BRAKES FAILED. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT A FEW YARDS AWAY, AND CALLED GENESIS, WHICH SAID THEY RECEIVED AN ALERT ON THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, AND I ASKED WHY THEY WERE NO ALERTS ON THE IMPENDING BRAKE ISSUES, AS I HAD RECEIVED A PRIOR ALERT ON ANOTHER ISSUE DEALING WITH THE FUEL VAPOR HARNESS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO DROP OF THE CAR ON 8/5/19. THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS CORRODE REAR BRAKE LINES, AND BRAKE HYDRAULICS, AND WAS BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY( I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THE HYUNDAI GENESIS DEALER AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE IN 8/2019), AND IT APPEARS THIS IS THE WARRANTY COVERING THE REPAIRS, NOT THE BALANCE OF HYUNDAI'S VAUNTED WARRANTY., MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 20,038 MILES ON IT, SO HEAVY USAGE IS NOT THE ISSUE HERE. IT APPEARS THE WERE BAD PARTS ON THE CAR, AND I WAS JUST LUCKY TO HAVE ESCAPED A BAD ACCIDENT THAT MORNING. SO FAR, THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE 8/5/19, WITH NO INFORMATION AS TO WHERE THE REPAIRS STAND, OR IF THE VEHICLE IS REPAIRABLE. WE HAVE TWO OF THESE VEHICLES IN THE FAMILY AND ARE CONCERNED, AND ARE KEEPING A CLOSE WATCH ON THE OTHER.I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THERE MAY OTHER OWNERS DRIVING THESE CARS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS QUITE UNKNOWN TO THEM.

THE POWER TRUNK HATCH MALFUNCTIONS, OPENING THE TRUNK EITHER PARTIALLY OR COMPLETELY. UNFORTUNATELY IT DOES NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY UNLESS USING THE TRUNK BUTTON INSIDE THE VEHICLE. ONE INCIDENT, THE TRUNK ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE WITHOUT WARNING OR NOTICE. NO BUTTON WAS ACTIVATED TO CLOSE AT THE TIME. THE TRUNK WOULD OPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IN MOTION ON THE ROADWAY, AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS POWERED OFF. ALL WERE ISOLATED INSTANCES. IT IS UNKNOWN WHAT MAY BE CAUSING THE MALFUNCTION, HOWEVER HAS PROGRESSIVELY BECAME WORST FROM THE ONSET. I WAS ABLE TO UTILIZE THE "VALET TRUNK LOCKOUT FEATURE" FOR NOW, DEACTIVATING THE TRUNK FUNCTIONS. I'M SCHEDULED TO MEET WITH THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR AN INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE SOON. DEALER REPLACED THE TCM BUT THAT COULDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. AND THEY JUST RELEASED THE CAR AS IS. AFTER A SHORT WHILE MY CAR HAD BECOME UNABLE TO REVERSE, AND WHEN SET THE GEAR TO REVERSE, MY CAR MOVES FORWARD TO MAKE A VERY LIFE THREATENING. I CALLED HYUNDAI CORPORATE OFFICE BUT THEY DIDN'T HELP. NOW, I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE AND BECAUSE BECAUSE I'M NOT A MECHANIC TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WHILE THE DEALER AND THE CORPORATE DON'T HELP. I FOUND OUT THAT THE MODEL OF MY CAR IS A SUBJECT TO RECALL FOR GEAR PROBLEM WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I FACE NOW. IT SEEMS THAT BOTH OF THE DEALER AND THE CORPORATE OFFICE ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE IN THIS PARTICULAR MODEL BUT THEY DID NOT EVEN MENTIONED IT TO ME UNTIL I FOUND IT BY MYSELF. A CAR LIKE THAT IS UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE BECAUSE IT RUNS FORWARD ONLY EVEN WHEN THE GEAR IS REVERSE AND IF STOPS I CANNOT EVEN PUSH IT BACKWARDS. ON TWO OF THOSE OCCASIONS THE CAR ONLY STOPPED WHEN HITTING A SNOW/ICE BANK. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, A LOUD AIR PRESSURE RELEASE SOUND WOULD EMIT. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE SO NOTHING WAS REPLACED. NOW I HAVE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HOPE I DON'T CRASH INTO SOMETHING.

I HAVE MYSELF CHECKED THE BRAND NEW 2017 GENESIS PARKER ON THE LOT AND IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. YOUR FEET WILL FREEZE AND THERE IS NO WAY TO BLOCK OR CLOSE THE BOTTOM VENTS. ALSO, THE HAPTIC STEERING WHEEL WARNING CAME ON AT AROUND 5K MILES, DEALER LOOKED AT IT ORDER SOME PARTS TO REPLACE THE SENSOR ETC.

A FEW MINUTES LATER I HEARD AIR RUSHING AND A CRACKLING SOUND. I OPENED THE SUN/MOON ROOF COVER AND SAW THE COMPLETE GLASS ROOF WAS SHATTERED. AS I DROVE DOWN THE ROAD FURTHER, GLASS SHARDS FLEW DOWN THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE ONTO THE ROAD BEHIND ME AS WELL AS ONTO THE SUNROOF COVER THAT I HAD CLOSED AFTER I SAW THE SHATTERED ROOF.

CAR ROLLED ABOUT 10 YARDS BEFORE I STOPPED IT. HAPPILY, NOTHING WAS BEHIND THE CAR. THE OPEN DOOR COULD HAVE HIT ME AND SWEPT ME UNDER CAR BUT I WAS ABLE TO AVOID IT AS I GOT BACK IN. NO HARM TO ME OR CAR BUT DANGEROUS SITUATION. REPORTED TO HYUNDAI & THEY SAID THERE WAS NO FIX OTHER THAN TO BE SURE CAR IS IN PARK BEFORE TURNING IT OFF. WITH OLDER CARS WITH A KEY, COULD NOT TAKE KEY OUT OF IGNITION UNLESS CAR WAS IN PARK. BUT WITH KEY FOB AND PUSH BUTTON IGNITION, THAT "FAIL SAFE" IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

2015 GENESIS 11 MONTHS OLD WITH 6,100 MILES. THE SUNROOF WEATHER SEAL IS DEFECTIVE AND SEPARATING FROM THE GLASS. DEALER AND FACTORY ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECT ($3,500 COST TO REPAIR) BUT REFUSED TO BUY BACK THE CAR. THIS IS MY 4TH GENESIS: THE 2ND AND 3RD CARS WERE DEFECTIVE, THE 1ST WAS SOLD TO ME WITHOUT FEATURES I WANTED AND WAS TOLD WERE IN THE CAR I FIRST BOUGHT. MY ISSUE WITH THIS DEFECT IS THE REPAIR PROCESS IS SOMETHING FIELD TECHNICIANS COULD NOT ACCOMPLISH ON THE 3RD GENESIS WHICH INVOLVED REMOVAL OF MOST INTERIOR TRIM ABOVE THE DASH LEVEL AND HEADLINER. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT REPAIR/REASSEMBLY WERE UNDERTAKEN AND THEN WA STATE LEMON LAWS KICKED IN. THE INTENDED REPAIR TO MY CURRENT AND 4TH GENESIS WILL BE A FURTHER DISASSEMBLY OF THE UPPER PORTION OF THE INTERIOR TRIM OF THE VEHICLE AND OF COURSE REMOVAL OF THE FIXED GLASS PORTION AND REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE WEATHER SEAL. THE DEALER, DOUG'S HYUNDAI, HAVE BEEN JUST GREAT AND THEY HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR CONCERN THAT THIS REPAIR IS LIKELY TO FAIL TO RETURN THE CAR TO ME IN "FACTORY CONDITION" DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE REPAIR. MY PAST EXPERIENCE WITH THE 3RD GENESIS TELLS ME THEY ARE RIGHT. WHILE THIS IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN PER SE, WATER INTRUDING INTO A VEHICLE COULD AND LIKELY WILL IMPACT ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND CONTROL MODULES. CASE IN POINT WAS THE RECALL INVOLVING WATER PENETRATION INTO THE REAR TAIL LAMPS THAT IMPACTED THE CARS TRANSMISSION FUNCTIONS. I FEEL SCREWED BY HYUNDAI. THEY ARE MAKING ME UNDERGO A REPAIR THAT WILL RESULT IN A DEPRECIATED VALUE. CAN ANYONE WHO READS THIS HELP ME?

MY GENESIS WAS INVOLVED IN A TIRE RECALL (CAMPAIGN 218). A COUPLE DAYS LATER, AS SOON AS I GOT THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY TO GO OUT OF TOWN ON A BUSINESS TRIP, MY CAR STARTED SHAKING SEVERELY. I CALLED BLUE LINK (HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE) AND THEY SAID TO TAKE IT TO PATTERSON HYUNDAI AT MY DESTINATION. I DRIVE TO WICHITA FALLS AS SLOWLY AND SAFEL AS I CAN AND I TOOK THE CAR IN TODAY BUT THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT. THEY SAID BECAUSE ITS RELATED TO THE RECALL THEY CANNOT FIX IT. I HAVE TO WAIT MINIMUM 3-5 DAYS FOR THEM TO ESCALATE IT TO THE NATIONAL LEVEL AND I CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR. I HAVE TO BE DRIVING HOME ON SUNDAY (2 DAYS FROM NOW). I TALKED TO CURTIS (FLOOR LEADER FOR GENESIS TEAM) AND SAID "I CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR FOR 3-5 DAYS?" AND HE SAID "YES." AND I ASKED IF I COULD GET A RENTAL THEN AND HE SAID THEY WON'T GIVE ME A RENTAL. THIS IS AT BEST UNETHICAL. I HAVE TO BE HOME BY MONDAY, SO THEY ARE FORCING ME TO DRIVE A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE CAR HOME 3.5 HOURS BECAUSE THEY WON'T CORRECT A PROBLEM WITH THEIR WARRANTY WORK.

ENTERING INTO A RIGHT TURN LANE THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE GRAZED A CURB. IMMEDIATE EXPLOSION & BOTH RIGHT SIDE AIR BAGS BLEW CAUSING MINOR INJURIES TO PASSENGERS. THE CAR IS NEW, APPROX. 985 MILES AND THE TIRES HAD BEEN REPLACED THAT MORNING WITH MICHELINS UNDER A TIRE EXCHANGE PROGRAM. THERE IS NO EXTERNAL BODY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE REAR AXLE APPEARS TO BE BENT. WHY WOULD AIR BAGS DEPLOY BY BUMPING A CURB AT LOW SPEED?

I HAVE HANKOOK 245/45R18 96W TIRES. AS OF THIS DATE 04/24/2015 I HAVE 1508 REGISTERED MILES ON THIS CAR. I PURCHASE THIS CAR IN DECEMBER 2015. I RETURN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES COMPLAINING ABOUT THE NOISY, VIBRATING AND ROUGH RIDE WITH THESE TIRES. I ASK COULD REPLACE THE LOW PROFILE TIRES WITH REGULAR TIRES OF THE SAME SIZE AND WAS TOLD THE RIMS,BRAKING SYSTEM AND POSSIBLE THE SUSPENSION AT A GREAT COST TO ME. I UNDERSTAND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE HYUNDAI AUTO MAKERS ABOUT THE LOW PROFILE TIRES HANKOOK 245/45R18 96W VENTRUS S1 NOBLE 2.
