On 12/13 while driving back home at a red light at night, we heard a loud pop at the driver's rear side and suddenly the dash displayed a warning stating "Check electric vehicle system". The car then would not drive past 25 mph and kept flashing the warning. We got it home safe, and planned on dropping it off at the dealership the next day after jumping it. The next day however, after multiple attempts to jump the car's battery, it would not start enough to move it. The car would start and then flash a warning saying that the 12V battery voltage is low and then shut off again. It had to be towed on 12/15 to the dealership where they will be doing an diagnosis.

I am reporting a safety concern with my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 related to Hyundai placing remote safety features behind a paid subscription. Hyundai has locked two functions that affect safety: (1) the ability to remotely check the vehicle’s battery state of charge, and (2) the ability to remotely unlock the doors from a phone. These functions previously existed under BlueLink but were removed unless the owner pays for the new Connected Services package. 1. Remote battery status Without paying the subscription, I cannot check the vehicle’s battery level while it is charging. If I need to leave the charging area or am charging from home and not directly watching the dashboard, there is no way to verify whether charging completed or stalled. Charging interruptions are common with EVs. This could leave me stranded unexpectedly in unsafe conditions, at night, or in severe weather. This is a safety issue, not a convenience issue. 2. Remote unlock Hyundai also removed the ability to unlock the car from my phone unless I pay for the subscription. This creates a safety hazard if a child accidentally locks themselves in the car with the key fob inside. Without remote unlock, the parent may have to break a window or wait for emergency responders, which creates risk of heat or cold exposure to a child. This problem is reproducible every time I attempt to use the app without a paid subscription. Hyundai has been contacted and has not offered a safety solution except paying the subscription fee. I am asking NHTSA to review whether locking basic safety functions behind a paywall creates a safety defect that could put vehicle occupants at risk.

The car was fully charged and all of a sudden displayed a limited power warning and stopped driving completely. We were stuck on a road and had to get a tow truck. The tow truck was able to get power to the battery to drive it up on the bed. It was fully dead -couldn’t even unlock the doors. It’s been at Hyundai for 3 days and they are replacing the ICCU fuse. From what I read this is a very common issue

My EV failed to charge using a home or public charger. The dealership determined that the ICCU of my Ioniq 5 failed and replaced it under warranty. I previously had evey software update and recall related to the ICCU performed, yet it still failed.

I bought this ioniq 5 pre-owned at 10,000 miles on 6/21/25. Clean carfax and no active recalls. One mile off the lot the system I received the message "12V battery voltage low. Stop safely." The car completely turned off. Could not put it in neutral. I was stranded on the road and it could have caused an accident. I got it towed near an auto shop and bought a new battery, thinking it was just a dead 12V battery. The car turned on and seemed to resolved the issue, but after 20 minutes of driving, it completely turned off again on the road. Very dangerous. I dropped it off at Platinum Hyundai of Tracy dealership and am awaiting a diagnostic.

ICCU FAILURE. Car was being parked at night and there was a pop sound towards the back. It sounded like I ran over a branch. Immediately I received a “Check electrical vehicle system” warning light. The car could not be shifted into drive. It was towed the next day to the dealership. Oddly enough I had an appointment later that week with the same dealership to address the ICCU recall but part failed before it could be addressed. The car was able to be repaired within 10 days. No loaner provided because dealership had a 20 people waitlist. I had to rent a car instead. When looking into this issue online, a 10 day turnaround time seems on the shorter end of the typical timeframe. I’ve heard stories online (see Reddit) and seen YouTube videos of people waiting months.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 ICCU failed with DTC P1A9096 which renders the vehicle in limp mode once the 12V battery drains. This is a major issue which keeps happening even after severals recalls with software updates related to this problem. When this incident happened i had gotten all the recalls and software updates available for the entire care and still it failed prematurely at 35K miles.

- The ICCU assembly failed while I was driving on the highway. - The ICCU failed even after I had the car taken in due to a recall on the ICCU unit. In other words, the repair that they suggested I do to the ICCU DID NOT WORK, which means I was driving a dangerous vehicle. - When the ICCU failed, the car slowed down to 25 miles an hours and then a crawl while I was driving on the highway with my family. I was lucky to not get into an accident. - I have taken the car into the dealer and they have told me it will take up to two months to get the ICCU fully replaced because the unit in my car failed even though I had it repaired during the recall. - I have contacted Hyndai requesting they buy back my car because it is unsafe to drive. They have not responded. - YOU NEED TO GET THIS SORTED OUT ASAP. THE RECALL REPAIR ON THE ICCU DID NOT WORK AND THERE ARE OTHER CARS THAT ARE AT RISK OF FAILING.

In late January 2025 I took my Ioniq 5 (an EV) to the dealer for service under a recall. The service called for a software update in regard to the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). The next time i attempted to charge the car charging failed. The dealer subsequently determined that the ICCU had failed. The car has been in the shop for two months and counting, as Hyundai is unable to supply the parts necessary for the repair. This happened without warning, although there are many other reports of similar incidents.

On March 15, I pulled my car into a charging station and turned it off. The charger would not recognize my car, so I figured I'd pull into a different charger. However, when I tried to start my car to move it I got the dreaded Low Voltage warning. The car would not start, and even when a tow truck brought a 12V charger it would not jump. It was completely dead. It had to be dragged with chains onto a tow truck. It was brought to a dealer where it has been ever since. I have just been informed by Hyundai corporate that the car needs a new ICCU but that they are backordered. This is the SECOND ICCU issue I have had with this car. The first was on December 26 when the issue was a recall [that I had not been made ware of yet] for a software update. I believe a fuse and the 12V battery were also replaced as the 12V completely discharged from the failure. On this occasion, the vehicle was dead in my driveway. I consider myself fortunate that the car did not die on a highway or while I was actually driving it, because that is very dangerous. But this car is not reliable and I feel like Hyundai should be buying back the lease and putting me into a different vehicle.

Car had 2 recalls and a diagnostic on 3/12/25. All checked out ok. It has 9,630 miles. 3/19/25 after driving 4 times throughout the day, it would not start or unlock. Roadside assistance jumped the 12v battery and drove it home. Drove it yesterday fully charged and worked. Then it would not start this morning. Dealer advised it was unsafe and to have it towed to dealership because they had another case where person was driving same car on the highway though and the car died. Please advise what my rights are for addressing this safely.

ICCU ASSY and Fuse had to be replaced as well as the 12 volt battery which failed a few weeks after. The car lost power on a main road 2/3/25 and we were just able to get into a parking lot. The message to check power supply came on and we lost power immediately. The 12 volt battery failed when I went to pick the car up from the dealership after they worked on the bluelink settings that had to be reconfigured a couple weeks later 2/25/25. I was lucky that I didn't have to be towed that time. I had just got into the car to leave and the warning message came on to check the power supply. My dealer service dept was wonderful. I have absolutely no complaints about them but I am angry that Hyundai is putting these same bad parts in the 2025 Ioniq 5 and we can't trust our car! We love this car and were planning to buy another one but will wait to see if Hyundai does the right thing and fixes this problem.

My horn has quit working. I don’t use it often do it could have been broken for more than 6 months, but I just discovered it following the service for a number of recalls. Apparently, this is a common problem. In 41 years of car ownership and driving, this is a first for me. My car just passed 50,000 miles last week and I’m afraid it might not be covered under warranty.

The manufacturer sent me a letter about a recall and in the letter stated that this should be fixed promptly because the defect could increase the risk of a crash. I called my local dealership and they could not provide me with an appoinment for 3 months. When I told them that I was worried about risk of crash they dismissed that and told me that they had not heard of a crash from this problem. I called Hyundai and filed a complaint, case #[XXX]. They also called the dealership and they could not get a sooner appointment but they offer for me to drop the car off and leave it for 7-10 days and they would get to it when they could. They would not give me a loaner car, that would be at my expense. I feel that this delay could potentially cause me to have an accident and injure myself and possibly others. In order to get it done sooner it would cost me a rental car. This repair is supposed to be done in a timely fashion and at no expense to me. Hyundai could not resolve my issue. The local dealership is Crown Hyundai in St Petersburg FL where I purchased the vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The car has had multiple recalls for the ICCU failure. I have brought the car in been 3 times. Will go in again this week . The recall remedy never fixes the issue. The car works for a few weeks then the same issue happens again .Unable to start the car or drive . Has been going on since June 2024.

When approaching 60 mph the vehicle starts to vibrate / shake. Upon a dealer's recommendation they have rotated, aligned, balanced and changed the tires and repaired the rear rims, but they did not help. (Just cost us money). I contacted Hyundai and they suggested that I go to another dealer, which I did. They said it was a known issue and the there is nothing they can do about it. I can't say much about the safety aspect, but I'm sure it's not good when a car vibrates and no on seems to know why ...

It is regularly very difficult to see the digital speedometer on this car because it is blocked by the steering wheel. There is almost no comfortable position to place the seat and steering wheel for someone of my height 6ft where the speedometer is visible. Please make Hyundai move the speedometer to the middle of the screen (not outside edges where it is blocked by the steering wheel)!! I have contacted them and they have essentially gaslit/ignored me about this.

I bought my Ioniq 5 in April 2023, starting in June 2023 I started having issues with the internal navigation system locating my vehicle on a different route than I was actually on. When I connect to Apple CarPlay to be able to use Google Maps or Waze, it also throws my cell phone system off and will be taken into wrong streets. Vehicle navigation also detected me driving in the wrong direction alerting me not to enter the street. I took video and photos to the dealer starting in June 2023 for a few months. They first updated the software which took over 6 hours, and my car spent the night at the dealer. Unfortunately it did not resolve the problem, they then replaced the antennae also not resolved issue. They replaced the camera in front of the rear view mirror, also no resolution. Lastly they replaced the head unit under warranty. My car continues to have the same issues with navigation and recently while on the freeway and the navigation and Apple CarPlay were acting up, when i switched lanes it alerted me of a collision and car began to break while driving 65 miles per hour. This could have caused me to be rear ended if there would have been a vehicle behind me. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle which i depend on the navigation maps for my daily work. Currently i am avoiding driving on freeways to ensure the car does not suddenly brake and cause me to be rear ended. I contacted the dealer and they stated they have not detected the same issue on other Ioniq 5's sold at Puente Hills Hyundai in California. In researching through the internet, i found there are others experiencing the same issue. Dealer asked me to bring my car in once again, but i am not sure what they can do. Hyundai needs to figure out the issue on the Ioniq 5 navigation system and issue a recall to fix the safety glitch with the system.

I attempted to drive my car to work. The car started but would not shift into gear. A red battery light indicator was on in the lower left corner of the screen. I contacted my dealer and they asked me to jump my car and bring it in. I did that. They indicated that my car had experienced ICCU failure and that a part would need to be ordered. The car had already been updated to address the ICCU failure, or so I thought. This is a known issue with 2022 models.

The navigation system in this car has an additional feature which is always enabled even if a destination is not programmed into the nav system which is supposed to warn drivers if they are going the wrong way on a highway. Intermittently the system erroneously indicates that the driver is going the wrong way. A voice warning is repeated issued and a warning symbol is displayed on the instrument panel. It is shocking, very distracting and frightening at first. Then it becomes a driver irritation, and eventually the driver tries to ignore the constant warnings, completely defeating the purpose of the safety feature. I’ve seen on the Ioniq forums where other drivers have reported this intermittent problem. Our local dealer would not check our car because the nav system was not failing at the time we brought it in. The problem can last for 5 minutes and then stop or can last for a duration of a car trip. For drivers unaware of this problem, they could easily be frightened enough to cause unsafe driving.

Vehicle was taken to dealer for recall repair. Upon completion i made sure everything was good to go. And realized the navigation system was not updating. Service agent took it back and was advise it needed a 4 hour update. Car stayed overnight. Following day they informed me they couldn’t find the problem and were in contact with tech support. They were advice to just replace the navigation antenna. Dealer has place the order for the antenna. My only problem is while we wait for the antenna my car’s location is at a random place so if it where to be taken there wouldn’t be a way for me to know the location of it.

The car driving selector order is Drive, Neutral, Reverse which is the wrong order. It should be Reverse, Neutral, Drive, which is the same for all the cars I have driven since the late 1960's. In fact, the Hyundai Santa Fe has the correct order. Also, my Volvo XC60 has the correct order. I thought that your standard 571.102 addressed this problem. I am having the same problem selecting the wrong drive when I go from my Volvo to the Ioniq 5.

Charger does not charge

Jul 13, 2023

Charging port overheats when attempting to charge at any speed above 6kw/hr. Charger is supposed to be rated for 48amps but overheats within minutes charging at 40 amps. Have had a TSB installed by the dealer but issue remains

Level 2 charging at home interrupting. I charge with a level 2 24a in my dryer outlet and my ionic 5 sel 2023 rwd interrupt its charging 2 times. I had to force my shelf to continue.

Jun 26, 2023

Sometimes, the batteries trip while charging and don’t recharge, don’t charge at the expected speeds, or only charge partially. Recently, when charging at home all night and plugged into our Level 2 charger, I find find that the car has not charged at all overnight.

Jun 22, 2023

Twice this week while charging my Ionic 5 the charging stops before it is completely charged to the set point. Once the set point was at 80% and once at 100%. Both times the charging stopped and I received the message below. None of the reasons listed in message was a cause of the stopping. I have called my dealer and they are checking w/service dept to see if I need a software update. I am waiting to hear back but there is obviously something wrong with the rate of charge. I am using a Jukebox home charger.
