Vehicle experienced engine failure previously and received a Hyundai-installed replacement engine in February 2025. Replacement engine is now setting DTC P000A00 – Intake Camshaft Position Slow Response (Bank 1). Hyundai dealership master technician confirmed excessive variance between commanded and actual cam timing, indicating a VVT / cam timing failure controlled by oil and actuators. Hyundai is refusing to cover diagnosis and repair under replacement engine warranty and is requiring customer-paid tear-down despite fault originating within the engine assembly. Concern is for internal engine timing failure that may lead to engine damage or loss of power. This appears consistent with known Hyundai engine timing and oil control issues
The engine failed due to excessive oil consumption/internal oil loss. The engine is currently installed in the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. The issue began while the vehicle was under warranty and has progressed to the point where engine replacement has been recommended. Ongoing oil loss and engine malfunction created a risk of sudden engine failure or loss of power while driving, which could lead to stalling or reduced ability to safely control the vehicle. This presents a safety risk to the occupants and other motorists, especially at highway speeds. Yes. The issue was confirmed by an authorized Hyundai dealership through oil consumption monitoring, diagnostic testing, and inspection after the check engine light illuminated. Hyundai has acknowledged the problem by authorizing testing, attempting repairs, and recommending engine replacement. Yes. The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealership, and the issue has been reviewed by Hyundai Motor America through warranty and goodwill claims submitted by the dealer. es. The first symptom was unexplained oil loss beginning at approximately 66,000 miles, with no visible external leak. Later, the check engine light illuminated, prompting further inspection and leading to the recommendation for engine replacement.
My vehicle experienced a sudden and immediate loss of motive power due to a catastrophic internal engine failure, creating a severe road safety hazard. While driving and attempting to accelerate or merge, the vehicle exhibits extreme hesitation, severe misfiring on cylinder #2, and rough, unstable idling. This unexpected loss of drive power made the vehicle unpredictable and unsafe to operate under normal driving conditions, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. The vehicle is currently at the Hyundai dealership (Fox Ann Arbor Hyundai) for diagnosis. The dealer has confirmed and documented the following internal mechanical defects at only 86,000 miles: Compression loss in cylinder #2. Cylinder wall scoring and pitting. Evidence of blow-by and heavy carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. Misfire and rough idle. Oil consumption as a result of the cylinder failure. This failure is a premature mechanical defect, not normal wear. Failures of this nature (sudden loss of motive power due to internal engine defect) have been cited by NHTSA in other recalls and are known to increase the risk of a crash or fire. The manufacturer has acknowledged the defect by offering only 50% goodwill toward a repair, but this defect remains a critical, unresolved safety hazard that requires a full, safe engine replacement."
I started smelling coolant fumes in my vehicle. Upon inspecting the coolant reservoir, I noticed it was empty. Upon inspecting the radiator itself, I noticed that some of the coolant was leaking. Fumes associated with the leaked liquid touching hot parts in the engine were entering the vehicle cabin. I noticed there was a technical bulletin regarding this issue for Hyundai Palisades. I informed the dealer as well as Hyundai corporate. Despite the technical bulletin, both entities ignored my issue and said it was not covered under warranty. In addition to potentially impacting the engine (if the coolant runs out), I believe the fumes are toxic and pose a serious health risk to passengers. As this seems to be a well known problem, I believe it needs to result in a recall (and not a technical bulletin).
The engine failed due to oil consumption. The engine burns to much oil. It burns more oil than it holds during normal intervals between changes. It also did NOT give any oil lights or engine lights on the dash (not one indicator came on). When we took it in the service advisor told us the computer had indicated a problem, but that was for the technician.
I own a 2021 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy with approximately 114,000 miles. The transmission had to be replaced at around 98,000 miles. Recently, before my next scheduled oil change (I had about 1,000 miles left), my vehicle suddenly began making a loud knocking noise and lost power. The dealer informed me that the engine may have blown. There were no warning lights, oil indicators, or overheating signs before this happened. The car has been regularly maintained and serviced with timely oil changes. This appears to be a premature engine failure possibly related to oil consumption or an internal defect, as many other Palisade owners have reported similar issues. Hyundai Consumer Affairs has been contacted, and a case number is being opened for review. I am filing this complaint to report a potential widespread engine problem and request investigation into 2021 Hyundai Palisade engine reliability and oil-related failures.
While driving after owning the car for only 2 months and before the next oil change was dure the car started surging and then died when turning a corner. No check engine light or any warning or error lights triggered on the car. The car was restarted and limped home slowly about 2 min from where I'd shut off. The hood was opened and oil lipstick checked to find no oil in the vehicle. Not oil leaks anywhere, no check oil or engine light and no error codes found by dealership. The dealership confirmed no oil leak and consumption issue, oil change done and have to return in another month to jump through hoops to get engine repaired as this is a consumption issue not a leak issue. Dealership is playing games with us around this and trying to get out of repairing the car. But internal engine issue was confirmed. Vehicle returned to us unrepaired to drive for 1000 miles and return for further review even though the issue was confirmed. This is a safety risk to me, and others on the road. Hyundai of Union County is the dealership playing games in getting this repaired. ,
Oil Consumption- Oil is being consumed at a rapid rate. Even when there is no oil in the vehicle, there are no lights that show up to signify low/empty oil. Once the oil is run dry, the car begins to make noises, can not accelerate, and jolts while driving. Oil must be checked every 2,000 miles.
My vehicle is using too much oil. I was between oil changes and my car did a safety shut down while I was driving on the busy highway with my grandchildren and left me like a sitting duck. I was finally able to get it off the middle of the highway by restarting the vehicle. My engine light was lit up. I parked it for 15 minutes and then restarted it and traveled the 40miles to home. The next day I took it to our local mechanic and he ran the code and it shut down for safety due to no oil in the vehicle. He added 4 quarts for me. 96033 was the mileage showing on my sticker for when the next oil change was due. My current mileage showed 94743 showing I still had 1290 miles before my next oil change was due. I have always used Swope Hyundai in Elizabethtown, KY for my vehicle service. I called and scheduled an oil consumption test. I did what they said and they said that it was an acceptable amount of oil loss per Hyundai standards. I am still over 1000 miles away from needing my oil change and my husband has been checking my oil for me about every 1000 miles. He stated that he has put in 5 quarts of oil in my vehicle since my last oil change. If he had not done this then I would have been left in a terrible situation again out on the road endangered of being crushed by semi trucks etc. when my vehicle would have shut down again for safety reasons to protect the engine. Why am I paying over 800 per month on a vehicle that is burning oil, I cannot trust and I work out of town 80 mile round trip and mane numerous trips to town for my grandchildren's activities. I need answers to this problem with immediate solutions. I love my vehicle but I do not love this oil consumption issue. I have researched and I do see that many of this type of vehicles both Hyundai and Kia have had issues.
The engine has been intermittently cutting off every day. We have taken it to the dealership multiple times, and they say they cannot recreate the issue, so there is absolutely nothing that they can do. The vehicle will shake a little bit and then turn off.
Engine consuming way to much oil. Did oil consumption test and it is going through a quart and half every 800 miles. Dealership is dragging there feet on getting this taken care. They put a solution in to see if that would fix it. Now it is eating oil more I have to put two quarts of oil in every week. There is no low oil indicator on this vehicle which is terrible so you have to check it or pay attention to the noise. The car runs so rough when it is low a quart and sometimes the engine stutters.
We have brought the vehicle to Potamkin Hyundai on three separate occasions, [XXX] [XX], and [XXX], and [XXX] due to the engine stalling unexpectedly while driving. This issue has placed our family, including our children, in serious danger and has not been resolved. At our initial visits, we were informed that the engine was consuming excessive oil. However, during our most recent visit on August 5, 2025, we were told that the engine was full of oil and functioning properly, and that no error codes were present. Because they were unable to duplicate the issue, we were told we would need to pay out of pocket to tear down an already faulty engine which is unacceptable. Despite this, the vehicle shut off once again while driving, creating a hazardous situation that is completely unacceptable and life-threatening. Engine is consuming too much oil causing oil light to come on and it continues to happen.
This car is consuming oil rapidly.I checked oil level to and had no oil on dip stick The car has not bee inspected yet. No warning lamps came on to warn me of low oil.
My 2021 Hyundai Palisade has had some issues relating to the engine recently. We take extremely good care of our cars, and are early when due for our oil changes. A couple of months ago, my husband checked my Palisade's oil before a trip. There was NO oil showing on the dip stick! I had just gotten an oil change 2000 miles before. He added 6 quarts of oil, and it was still only showing half full. We brought it up to the dealer, and they did an oil change and $900 worth of replacing things that were not covered on the extended warranty. Last month, I drove it, and the engine light went on AGAIN. We brought it in, and they said there was no oil? We told them it is not leaking anywhere, but it might be burning off or slipping somewhere else. They did an oil change (which we had to pay for even though there was no oil) and told us to come back in 1,000 miles. We went back and they said it was burning over a half quart after 1,000 miles, but Hyundai won't do anything unless it burns more than 1 quart in that time. Then, 3 days later, my engine light comes back on, and here we are again. NO oil, not even 1,500 miles, and at the dealership again A WEEK LATER! This time, they are doing a combustion chamber cleaning? I understand there are procedures that need to happen, but this does not fix that my engine is burning my oil. 3 of my coworkers have had their engines replaced due to this issue of oil consumption and where it goes. This can cause my car to die on the side of the road, immediately, and combust! My family is at risk of being in the car, and so are others who drive around me if this happens. Why is Hyundai waiting for this to happen? This is completely negligent on their end!
the issue is with excessive oil consumption, unknown, suv was taken to the dealership and that's when I was told what the issue was, just inspected by the dealership, warning was the truck was shaking abnormally
The engine consumes oil at an unsustainable rate without any visible leaks or warning signs, leading to a complete engine failure.
On expressway traveling through Atlanta, changing lanes with plenty of clearence using signal at approximately 55 mph when suddenly alarm sounded and breaking system engaged bringing car to almost complete STOP. COULD NOT ACCELERATE and fortunately made it to berm area without causing SERIOUS accident. Turned engine off and restarted vehicle and continued on my way. Had vehicle checked at dealership and they said “all checked out and we found no diagnostics problem”. Also weren’t able to duplicate incident. I hope to God I AM UNABLE to duplicate the incident and cause fatalities including myself.
I have a Hyundai Palisade complaint. NHTSA ID Number: 11613395. I was trying to add additional information. The car stopped working again. It stops at intersections and won't start up. This time it wouldn't start at all. Had to be towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership. Since June this car has been at the Hyundai Service center. The following parts have been replace. Transmission Front Axle Bearing Kit 3 ignition coils 5 spark plugs This time they are saying the reason the car stops and won't start is the "starter" needs to be replaced. Out of 6 months, this car has been at the service center for 3 months and multiple visits to the servcie center and three major repairs for the same issue. I want to know if others a having the same issues.
Based upon Big Star Hyundai Repair Department’s assessment the engine failed because there was a miss fire in cylinder 6. They have been waiting on a new engine since July 2024. Our car has been at the dealership since 2024.
Sputtering when it is stopped and driving. It then cut off when stopped at a light multiple times and check engine light came on.
Car is burning an excessive amount of oil. Need to put 2 quarts in weekly. 90,000 miles
My Hyundai Palisade engine light came on and started missing. Engine was making a rattling noise under hood and felt like it was going to die, Took to Dealer and code p0087 p219e were low and inbalanced also 3 fuel injector was bad and 1 cylinder was bad that was on 12-8-23 on 12-21-23 when going uphill it downshifts and noise from hood engie sputter and acts like its going to die , Also rattling under hood. checked code engine oil pressure too low oil was 4 quarrts low no leaks found topped off and marked drain plug , wanted me to drive for 1000 miles and bring back in. at no time did my oil light come on when it was low. 1/8/24 took it in cause it had used oil oil housing unit was leaking they replaced that and they did a oil change on it said i needed to come back in 1000 miles 2/6/24 oil check combustion chamber cleaning vehicle used 069 quarts of oil in 1,164 miles 2/8/24 when driving it has no power or shift. 2/26/24 got in vehicle and the speedometer that told miles per gallon was at 5.0 and was going up to 10 and back down i took it and dropped it off at the dealer and have had every since. i have been waiting on a new motor since 2/26/24 it is now 10/24/24 i had to drive my car for 1000 milles several times for with these issues. i could of caused an accident or been hit. this put my life in danger and the lifes of my family. i have documents to prove this as well At this time saleman were trying to get me to trade my car in i have numerous text, calls and emails i had to get rude with them so they would leave me alone. i have been having issues since December 2023 its now October 2024 i still do not have my car, i have been making payments. They say they cant tell me when they will get the parts to fix my car, they are on backorder,. i have been in touch with Hyandai America. They have not got any issues resolved either. i contacted them in August of 24 . i feel like i am just getting the run around.
Paint started chipping… Dealer stated it was from a rock, however a rock chip doesn’t cause a whole section of paint bigger than a quarter to just flake off.. ironically there was another vehicle on the lot having the same issues . Picture is included.. Second issue is the engine It makes a grinding noise when driving almost like the cams or transmission is going to go bad, but i think it’s the timing chain. Lasty the suspension it has clicking noises that cannot be resolved.
I've had several instances where the car didn't turn over and all technology screens began glitching, clicking and stating the key wasn't in the car. After a few tries, it would start up. Ice also experienced engine failure WHILE driving. The first time was at a stop light and the engine completely shut off and I had to park, and restart it. This has happened twice. When it did, all of the screens were glitching, flashing, lights came on/off, and then went black. The next time it happened, I was on the highway and it started to sputter, jerk (like it was running out of gas but I had over 1/4 tank).
I was driving in the highway in fairly heavy rain. My lane departure system went offline first. Next my forward collision went offline. Shortly after that my check engine light came on and the vehicle started shaking. I stopped under a bridge and waited for the rain to slow. I turned the car off and on, but the issues remained. I was forced to drive 10 miles, at 30 mph, on the highway, with hazards on, to a hotel. This caused an unnecessary unsafe situation. The next day, I took to the dealer. The car ran fine. They reset the codes and said it was likely water getting into the cylinders causing 4 and 6 to fail. I really dont feel a car should do this from driving in the rain. This also caused me an unnecessary hotel stay.
While driving my Hyndua Palisades on the Southern State Parkway at 55mph, my car shut off. When it happened, I didn't know what was going on. All of the lights on the vehicle went off, and then it shut off while I was still driving it. My 11yr old son and I could have been killed. When is Hyundai going to address the significant problem? My son no longer wants to ride in my car because he has been traumatized by this incident, and I cannot blame him. I have avoided driving on major highways because of this issue. I should not be experiencing this problem with a car that isn't even 3yrs old. How isn't anyone stepping in to ensure Hyundai takes care of this LIFE THREATING PROBLEM? What is Hyundai waiting for, someone to lose their life while driving their vehicle? If you are thinking of getting a Hyundai, DONT.
Sudden powertrain failure. Car started to decelerate on its own. The car started to vibrate when accelerator was pressed. Car was in high speed and could have stalled and the passengers could have been killed. Hyundai has refused to honor the powertrain warranty and has attributed the entire transmission failure to bad gas which is very very unlikely. Have contacted Hyundai USA and got no substantial help. Hudson Hyundai is the dealer and is notorious in their treatment of customers. The company needs to issue a recall of 2021 pallisades before a major accident.
I was driving on a highway going approximately 80 mph when the car stopped accelerating. It was as if someone switched the car to neutral. The engine completely shut off and I had to scramble to safely pull over to the side of the highway. I had to turn the car off, wait, and turn it back on. I got back onto the highway and rushed towards a dealership. The engine shut down two more times. Each time requiring me to pull over to the side of an incredibly dangerous highway to restart the car. The dealership stated it was an issue with the Fuel Injector.
Another vehicle t-boned my vehicle on the front left side. We were both traveling around 15 mph. As soon as he struck my vehicle, the air bags were deployed and the car instantly caught fire. The car was on fire before I was at a complete stop. I was able to pry the door open and crawl through a small opening after moving the air bags out of the way. I had to crawl into traffic to be able to escape the fire. If the door had been jammed more severely then I wouldn't have been able to make it out in time before the fire reached me. If my kids had been in the vehicle, then I would not have been able to get them out before the fire got to them. The police determined that the fire started at the engine. My insurance totaled the vehicle and then it was removed from the towing yard and taken to Montgomery. There were no prior issues or any warnings/messages before the incident.
