The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that the front driver's side and passenger's side seat belts unbuckled independently while driving. The contact stated that the failure had recurred more frequently with the front passenger's side seat belt. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V607000 (Seat Belts), which the contact related to the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

I am writing to report a serious safety concern regarding my vehicle’s front passenger seat belt, which unexpectedly came unlatched. Although Hyundai replaced that one seatbelt, I remain very concerned that other seatbelts in the vehicle could have the same defect. I was informed that the warranty has been extended in case this issue happens again, allowing for additional replacements. However, this approach does not fully address the risk. If a seatbelt were to unlatch during an accident, it could lead to severe injury or death. This is a major safety hazard affecting all seatbelts in the vehicle.
The seat belt buckle in the third row was crushed by the folding of the third row. I had to replace the buckle to use it.
My car was making a rattling noise from the engine and would stutter at a stop and sometimes kick into park or turn off. No warning lights would turn on, on the dash board warning i was low on oil. The back passenger brake light warning light turned on. The Third seat middle seatbelt does not lock. I took into Hyundai to get it serviced and I had to pay for my car to be put on a diagnostic test. I was told I was low on oil. I never had any warning lights go on, on my Dashboard. My motor could have blown out. The only warning light I got was my back light is out. I never had any warning signal go on my dashboard saying my seatbelt doesn’t lock. I had it serviced 2025 and again the same back tail light is out. I have kept my vehicle maintenance up to date. I am going to have to schedule another appointment for my back tail light ( same side) to get repaired
My wife drives the vehicle regularly and mentioned that the seatbelt unlatched multiple times without force to the buckle or latching mechanism. The seatbelt problem was occuring before her vehicle accident and continues to happen afterwards. The seatbelt came completely undone while driving at highway speeds and seperately during stop and go traffic. You may inspect it as needed as long as the inspection does not impeed usage for traveling to work Monday - Friday 8-5 please. The vehicle is used as a primary means of transportation. The driver's safety is continously put at risk due to seatbelt failure and may cause bodily injury, serious bodily injury, or death if not corrected. The vehicle was dropped off at Hyundai Northwest in San Antonio for a seperate issue and the seatbelt failure was mentioned and I was told there is no active recall for it to be fixed. They did not investigate further. The vehicle has been to classic collision repair on Fredericksburg Rd in San Antonio for a rear end collision (not at fault). No warning lamps or messages noted.
Multiple times after the kids buckle in, their seatbelts will become unlatched while driving down the road. This occurs in the middle row and happens with everyone from the [XXX] to the [XXX] . In some instances it has happened when an adult is sitting in the second row as well. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My middle row seat belts randomly become disengaged. Even after ensuring they are pushed in all the way. This has happened multiple times and is concerning as I drive my kids around a lot. It has had 10+ times but I took it to the dealer and they said at the time they couldn't replicate it so nothing could be done but it keeps happening! Randomly and without warning.
2nd row, right seat belt will sometimes not latch properly, or will come unlatched by itself while in operation.
I am the second owner of this vehicle and have only been driving it for two weeks. The second row driver’s side seatbelt has disengaged on multiple occasions (at least 5) while the car is in motion. The passenger seatbelt has disengaged twice and the driver’s seatbelt has disengaged once. Obviously this is a serious issue that could result in major injuries if an accident ever occurred. I will be taking the vehicle in for service as soon as possible.
Drivers seatbelt randomly comes unclicked when driving. This also happens even after making sure the seatbelt is secure. Also have issues with passengers side second row with seatbelt not clicking into place after several attempts.
The seatbelts in the Driver, Front passenger and second row passenger come unlatched by themselves, unprompted and at times, do not want to buckle until multiple times of forces them in. The driver seat with the lower seat adjustment will move unexpectedly without prompting. This is not the first time this has happened. It has occurred multiple times this past year, starting around 36,000 miles.
Sometimes seatbelts come unbuckled in the front and back seats. Currently front passenger seat will not buckle has happened several times. Seems to not always latch all the way. Have had a seatbelt, unbuckled while driving a few different times. Huge safety issue.
2nd row captain seats come unbuckled on there own after correctly buckling/ latching them. Has done it multiple times while driving down the road on my adult children and my younger children
Passenger rear seat (middle row) belt comes unlatched on its own while the vehicle is being operated. The latch is currently securing a [XXX] boy (approx. [XXX]) for most of the time the seat belt is latched. The seat belt in most cases remains latched however it is slowly becoming more progressive. The left rear passenger seat (middle row) is currently latched securing a car seat with no issues present and no issues present at third row seat belts. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Driver's seatbelt is unlatching while driving spontaneously. It is also having issues latching and staying latched. The dealership was not any assistance, as they said it was likely maybe dirt in the seatbelt (there isn't any debris). This is a huge safety concern, as we have a young child and are now concerned about the rest of the seatbelts doing the same thing.
The seat belt on second row of Palisade Hyundai 2022 does not latch all the time, and it is a safety issue. Keeps happening on and off since I bought the vehicle. Dealer doesn’t want to fix it, as when they test it 2 it works.
The passenger side 2nd row seatbelt will randomly become unlatched while driving the vehicle. This happens despite checking to be sure it has clicked/locked into place at the start of the drive, and has happened repeatedly at random times. This began happening in January 2025 and has occured about 6 times since. I just scheduled a Hyundai service repair for 02/28/25.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that the driver's side and passenger’s side front seat belts unlatched unintendedly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

The front passenger seatbelt suddenly popped open while making a turn. The same thing previously happened with the drivers seatbelt but figured I must have not fully buckled it; when it happened to my husband weeks later in a different seat, I researched it and see it is a known issue.
I have experienced a couple times where the driver's seatbelt has become unbuckled. We have owned the Palisade since May of 2022. We have had now issues with the seat belts until this past two weeks. I buckled the front seat belt like normal. It unclicked. I forced the seat belt to click harder and it did stay secure, but a couple miles down the road the seat belt unclicked. Possible faulty seat belt. As mentioned, this has not been an issue until now.
Passenger and Driver seatbelts unlatch on their own
The rear passenger captain seatbelt does not latch properly. My daughter who is [XXX] struggled one day to get the seat belt to latch. Upon inspection nothing appeared to be stuck in the latch. The seatbelt would enter into the lower lock fine, but not engage. After several attempts the seatbelt would eventually latch. However when driving if under pressure, the seatbelt has come unlatched with no action to the release button. I had a similar issue with the rear seatbelt in the third row that just wouldn't latch no matter what and the dealership replaced no issues. I took my car to Vision Hyundai in Canandaigua this morning and was informed that they couldn't replicate the issue so the latch was in fact not broke. The gentleman was putting his whole weight into it when latching it, but did share if he slowly tried to latch it didn't catch, but that wasn't a safety concern. After reviewing multiple hyundai forums, I see I am not alone and this appears to be a wider issue. 37 others have filed a formal complaint regarding this issue and I tried to tell the guy, I don't want to be driving and get into an accident and then the seatbelt decides to "fail". It should be taken at the customers request and the seatbelt should be replaced even if there is no formal safety recall. 2nd row seat belts unlatching on their own. More prevalent in cold temperatures.
Rear passenger seatbelt has unlatched unexpectedly several times
Driver, and second row seatbelt unlatch on there own while driving numerous times Unsure of third row as this row is not regularly used. Passenger seatbelt belt was recently replaced under warranty.
Since I have owned this vehicle in 2022 I have had an issue with my second row seatbelt’s unhitching after they are lached. I brought this to the dealers attention and they told me they are fine as they are we’re not able to duplicate it and if I wanted them to look into it further and they didn’t find an issue I would have to pay out of pocket for their time. No it s so bad that several times throughout our drive they will just unlatch. This is a serious safely concern.
This has now happened 2 times now (once in the fall of 2024 and the other time was 2 or 3 weeks ago) to the driver side seatbelt. Before driving, I buckled and clicked my seat belt and while I was driving, the seat belt unclicked and unlocked on it's own. The first time this happened, I thought maybe I didn't secure it all the way, but when it happened a second time, I knew for sure I had fully buckled my seat belt and it unlocked on it's own. This is a huge safety concern. If I got into an accident and my seat belt became unlocked, I could be killed. And I am concerned about the other seat belts as well. I have 2 small children who are always in the car with either my husband or myself (or both of us). I am concerned that their seat belts could have the same issue. No warning lights went on and I have not had the seat belt inspected yet. I researched online and saw no recalls, so I wanted to make sure this was reported in case others are having the same issue. It's very concerning. If my vehicle is needed for inspection, I am happy to do so as long as I have another car to drive in the mean time. This is our only vehicle.
The seat belt in the rear right passenger seat became disengaged on 1/13/25 while driving. The alert indicating the belt had become unbuckled did alarm. This has happened repeatedly, including recently on 1/10/25 when the front passenger seat belt became disengaged while driving. This has occurred when both children and adults are occupying the seats.
For the last two months nearly every time the front passenger seat seat belt unbuckles when it is used.
Update to previously filed complaint number: 11608439. Safety issue has been resolved. Initial complaint was due to defective seatbelt receiver buckle. Van Hyundai Carrollton dealership and Hyundai customer service refused to repair the issue under existing warranty, both claiming the issue was not a warrantied item. Months after safety issue was first reported, the vehicle was taken to another dealership, Huffines Hyundai Plano, where the faulty seatbelt buckle was diagnosed and quickly replaced free of charge.
Seat belts will randomly unlatch. Mostly happens in the second row but does occasionally happen in the driver and passenger seat. My kids are normally in the second row and are aware of the issue. We always remind them to check the seat belts by pulling to make sure it is latched. The seat belts have unlatched even after the kids have pulled and verified they are latched which is pretty scary. We will be just driving down the road when the seat belts unlatch. Luckily we have not been in an accident in this vehicle. Afraid the seat belts would not help.
I have had two seat belts in this vehicle stop latching and come unlatched while the car was in motion. The first one was the middle row passenger side and the most recent one was the driver seat. This is extremely unsafe and I am very nervous for all of the other seat belts in this car. Both times I have been told his isn't a know issue and that they would be replaced by warranty. I am now finding out from searching online that this is being investigated.
The seatbelt latches are not always reliable. We have only noticed this with the driver’s side seatbelt specifically during cold weather. We do not have a lot of back seat passengers not in car seats; therefore, cannot speak to the reliability of the back seat. We bought our car in 2022 and this issue started in 2023. So far, it is worse this winter than it was last year. It will take a couple of times to latch and will occasionally unlatch later down the road. I am concerned for the safety of the driver if an accident were to occur.
Several times while traveling, passengers have reported their seat belts unexpectedly and randomly releasing. In addition, the rear drivers side seat belt frequently does not latch. I have two videos showing the issue: [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Second row seatbelts will randomly unbuckle while driving. Despite making sure they are securely fastened.
Front passenger side seatbelt buckle is not latching correctly when seatbelt tongue is inserted into buckle. Buckle will only latch when the buckle release button is depressed while inserting the seatbelt tongue. Defect may result in injury or death during car during an accident or sudden stop if passenger is unable to properly latch seatbelt due to defect or buckle fails. Dealership has refused to correct defect without first collecting diagnostic fee. Manufacturer has refused to cover costs to diagnose and repair part. Previous seatbelt buckle recalls for this manufacturer do not cover this make, model, or specific part.
Second row passenger seatbelt randomly unbuckles when driving. This has happed 6 times in 30 days with two different people seated in that seat.
The seat belts come unbuckled while driving. They can be difficult to buckle. Kids and adults have a hard time buckling and then when we are driving they will unbuckle on their own.
The 2nd row seat belt randomly becomes unlatched while driving. I even sat in that seat to confirm it wasn’t something the children were doing and it wasn’t. It just randomly comes undone. I took it to the dealership and was told that they would not replace since it wasn’t reproducible.
The second-row passenger-side seatbelt does not stay in the locked position. We will push the tongue (male end) in completely and then seconds later the tongue disconnects from the buckle (female end) on its own. It takes multiple attempts (3-5 times) every time to keep it in the locked position. Sometimes the tongue will come undone when driving for an hour out of nowhere. We have tried sweeping out the buckle section and made sure the tongue end is clean and not disfigured. This has been happening for 9+ months. We thought it was a user error but it continues to happen to multiple passengers.
The middle row seats & the front passenger seat do not always buckle. The buckle doesn’t “catch” and you have to try to buckle over & over. Once, the back passenger seat clicked and buckled but then with a gentle tug it came unbuckled
the second row seat belts come disengaged while driving. We will buckle in our child, double check it is locked by pulling on seat belt and a couple minutes later it will disengage from the buckle and come undone. This is happening on a regular basis with our Palisade and the dealer/corporate office has no notes on this issue. If you search online you will see numerous reports about others experiencing this issue. It also sounds a lot like Hyundai's Recall #160 on the sonata.
The seat belts in the second row won’t buckle until the 5th or 6th try and will randomly pop out of the buckle once secured while driving down the road.
Our 2nd row, passenger side seatbelt releases itself randomly while driving. The Hyundai dealership couldn't replicate it but all they did was insert the seatbelt and tug on it. Multiple passengers have had it happen to them randomly so we don't use that seat if possible. The dealer said they will call it in or something, and call me back. That was 2 months ago. Tugging on it, it seems locked in, but while driving it just undoes itself. I've seen other palisade owners report this problem about the same 2nd row passenger side seatbelt.
Captains seats in the middle of the vehicle keep having the seatbelts unbuckle by themselves when in use. It does not matter the size of the rider. We replaced the entire assembly with original parts for the driver side captain seat in October by a Hyundai dealer. It continues to be an issue. The right side was cleaned and reassembled. This affects the ability for passengers to be safely restrained while the vehicle is in motion and should there be a collision, we are unsure if they buckle would stay latched.
The middle passenger seatbelt receptacle that came with the vehicle is the component that often failed. Passengers sitting in this particular seat would often try to put on their seatbelt and it would not catch. Though intermittent, this would occur 1/3 to 2/3 of the time. Passengers sitting in that particular seat (none of the other seatbelts had problems), would often have to try and engage or click their seatbelt "on" multiple times before it would actually catch. In many cases, the passenger would click the seatbelt, and a few minutes later, it would release without touching the release button. We explained the issue to a dealership on multiple occasions but they said they couldn't replicate the issue. Finally, recently, we explained that we would not leave until they fix it. We had to show the dealer how the seatbelt wouldn't engage and we successfully demonstrated its failure. The dealer reluctantly agreed to order a new seatbelt receptacle. Once the new seatbelt receptacle was installed, we have only experienced successful buckle and receptacle engagements. I believe the initial middle passenger seatbelt receptacle that came with the vehicle was faulty and posed much danger, and at some times, caused the vehicle to have been driven improperly when the seatbelt became unengaged.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH the seat belt on the third-row passenger’s side unlatched without warning. The contact attempted to insert the tongue into the buckle, however, the seat belt failed to latch securely. The dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact stated that the front passenger’s seat belt latch was previously replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 18,200.
Mileage: 18,200
The seat belt latch in the third row on the drivers side does not latch. This is a 2022 Palisade.
In the passenger side second row captain seat, our son who is in a high back booster seat has buckled his seatbelt. We had heard the click. The seatbelt warning light has indicated the seat belt was buckled. About an hour into the ride we hear the warning bell that a seatbelt has been unbuckled. He had not unbuckled it or touched it. It just undid itself. Was it not fully locked to begin with ? Would it have come out if we had gotten into an accident??? Why was there no warning light if it was indeed not fully locked? This has happened twice now and concerned if the seatbelts are reliable. The most recent time occurring this past week, 2/10/23
Multiple times while I am driving the drivers seatbelt comes unmatched. This does not happen during a specific time like hard breaking. It just randomly comes out and the alarms start going off. It has occurred 3 times in the last 2 months. They are unable to fix the problem for 3 weeks
Our vehicle has captain seats in the middle row. The seat buckles are so far recessed it's ALWAYS difficult to buckle, especially when using car seats or boosters. Our children, nearly 9 and 7 years old who had no difficulties buckling before, are unable to buckle themselves with their boosters now. Additionally, and even more concerning, is that the seat belt will "click" as if it's been buckled but come unbuckled partially through the drive. I have found I have to get two clicks and/or yank on the buckle to ensure it's all the way in. But for children it's confusing as they're unsure if they've buckled correctly. A Hyundai dealer inspected it and stated it as a known problem but that there's nothing that can currently be fixed about it. However, I worry if in an accident the seat belt may actually come undone as it's not all the way in most of the time.
