I was at work and went to move my car in our parking garage. I hit a bump and my front tires started to shake along with my steering wheel, and my brakes wouldn't work. I briefly lost total control over the brakes, steering wheel and tires causing me to almost hit a parked vehicle before everything self corrected. No alerts came on. I recently was hit on my rear passenger side and had repairs done to my vehicle. I had also experienced this shortly after I purchased the car and the dealership supposedly fixed the issue. I’m not shew if the wreck causes this issue to malfunction again or what, but this isn’t safe. I just reported the issue to the collision center that recently repaired my vehicle. Waiting on a response.
Under normal braking pressures, crossing uneven surfaces, even as normal as markings painted on the road surfaces will result in the abs intervening to a degree beyond what is necessary or safe. No warning lamps or indicators are illuminated, but when this happens, you can hear and feel exaggerated feedback through the brake pedal. The problem has not been able to be replicated by a dealer, but this unnecessary intervention by the abs system dramatically increases stopping distances, resulting in dangerous situations such as rolling through a stop sign into oncoming traffic, or into the rear of the vehicle in front of you. Typically when this problem occurs, the abs will not stop interfering until the brake pedal is completely released and reapplied. The problem has been inspected by a dealer, but with them failing to reproduce the issue, they have not confirmed the issue yet.
When driving over uneven roads and if you need to apply the brakes abruptly, the ABS engages (shaking brake pedal) and I am unable to immediately stop my SUV until I’m back on even surface. This has occurred twice going over train track Road crossing and someone quickly needed to stop and once I was on the tracks I had to immediately brake but I could not slow down. SUV has 23000 miles.
Please see attachment:
My wife and I were coming up to a stop sign the other day and we hit some bumps in the road and were unable to apply the brakes. I pressed down on the pedal but the car went into the intersection before the brakes then applied and the car was then able to stop again. Thank god!! since there was another car coming to the intersection. The car made noises like when the traction control kicks on after hitting a slippery surface on the road, but the car was not stopping and pressing the brakes did not do anything either. I also tried pumping the brakes on the car, but eventually the brakes kicked back in and we came to a hard stop. I have not taken the car into the shop to be looked at yet, but I know Hyundai and they wont find a problem with it and then charge me around $300 for them just to look at it. There was no warning to problem happening as we had never had this problem before and there was no lights on the display for the car when the problem happened.
We were almost in a major accident with 6 passengers in our 2023 Hyundai Palisade. On Wednesday, Oct 1, 2025 we were driving our Palisade to McDonalds off Highway 98 (Navarre Parkway). Please see pics. When we left McDonalds we went on a side road to enter Highway 98. Now on this side road (see pictures) there is some type of metal grate in between the road...well when we went over the grate approaching the stop sign the Palisade went into an immediate violent shudder and there was no control of the vehicle as it felt it was shut down even though I could tell it was on by the interior lights on the gauges. I had absolutely no control of the vehicle. Yes, I was the one driving. I could not brake and the Palisade continue to roll past the stop sign onto Highway 98 with on coming traffic. I couldn't even steer the car because its as though the car had no power. It was totally dead. With my foot pressed hard on the brakes that still did not work I tried to start the car and then it came on. My wife has told me that she experienced this issue at least six times passing this same road and others similar to it. This was the first time I experienced it and we were lucky we were not hit by oncoming traffic. Again, no brakes, no steering control. We were traveling at a slow speed as we were approaching the stop sign on that road with the metal grate, maybe 5 mph or less, but as soon as we went over the grates...all control of the Palisade was lost. Please advise us what to do...as I said we almost had a major accident with 6 passengers because the Palisade did not function as it was designed to do.
On [XXX] around [XXX], turned right from [XXX] is very bumpy due to potholes. My palisade’s ABS kicked in and I was not able to break my car before the red traffic light. The car went over the light. If there was a car in front of me, I wouldn’t be able to stop my car without accident. This is not the first time my palisade’s ABS suddenly engaged. The ABS seems always kick in when driving in low speed on a bumpy road. I am concerned someday I will have an accident due to the faulty ABS. The braking system has been an ongoing issue, shuddering and grinding when braking and hitting an uneven surface, especially at slower speeds. It has consistently become worse, shuddering, grinding and not stopping when going down a driveway. Tonight when going less than 20MPH and on a smooth surface, it would not stop when coming up to a light/intersection. The shuddering and grinding was much worse and the car kept going forward as if it were on a sheet of ice. The car slid forward more than 20 feet, coming within a few inches of rear-ending the vehicle ahead. It was terrifying! It did the same thing 2 more times in the 3.5 miles to my driveway. Thank goodness there was no other traffic. This is not normal at all and I’m in fear of driving it again.
My vehicle has an issue with the anti lock braking system on uneven surfaces. On several occasions since buying the vehicle earlier this year, I've observed the issue of chattering or severe on-off reaction of the ABS to gradual braking onnuneven surfaces. I have not had the issue verified by a dealer yet, but plan to soon. The malfunction has extended stopping distances significantly. I have not noticed warning lights during or after the malfunction, likely because I'm focused on safely bringing the vehicle to a stop during the malfunction. My vehicle can be made available for inspection.
It appears that the ABS system engages/actuates while driving over gravel or uneven/dirt roads. When the issue occurs, the steering wheel locks up and the vehicle loses almost all braking control. No warning lights, messages or audible chimes show up when the issue occurs. My wife and I have both experienced this issue on numerous occasions. It has become a safety concern since we almost ended up in a ditch...my wife and young children were in the vehicle. I am fearful that we could potentially crash or hit someone due to loss of vehicle control. The vehicle is being brought to the dealership on September 18, 2025, where I will make them aware of this concern. NOTE: the provided "additional details" below are based on the most recent occurrence.
When driving over bumps (speed bumps, railroad tracks, sewer lids etc.) at a slow speed while pressing the brakes, the rear passenger brake produces a shuddering or a grinding sensation. This issue has been confirmed by other drivers who have operated my vehicle. When this occurs, it feels as though the vehicle is not stopping properly and the brakes are slipping. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership on two separate occasions; however, the technicians were unable to duplicate the concern. After the most recent inspection, the dealership stated that they could not identify an issue. There are no warning messages or lights displayed on the dashboard when this happens. Through further research, I have found that a number of other owners have reported experiencing the same problem on the NHTSA site. This concerns me that others and myself are having this same issue and there has yet to be a recall or some type of technical service bulletin so the dealers will address this issue.
Anti locking braking system malfunctioning and preventing me from braking at low speeds in a parking lot and at a stop light. No lights on internally (Dash). Had to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me at the stop light and had to hit my horn to have the person in the parking lot slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. Both incidents happened at about 5 miles per hours on flat grounds.
ABS system engaging at unpredictable times. Unable to stop. Have slid into intersection when braking with perfect road conditions. Feels like I hit ice in 100 degree weather. Experience shaking/brakes locking up. Extremely concerning and frightening when I am driving with children in the car and purchased the vehicle under the assumption it had superior safety ratings. Pleading for recall to be issued due to this system.
System that malfunctioned was the braking system Safety was risked because vehicle doesn’t stop as it should at low speed below 30mph. Safety of occupants as well pedestrians and other motorists affected. Problem can be reproduced although dealer refused to confirm. I am in the process of getting it confirmed independently. Vehicle and components not inspected by manufacturer, police nor insurance. Although I am in the process of putting an insurance claim in. The issue has been reported and confirmed by several other owners of same make and model and year. No prior warning of issue to it happening. The problem: At low speed below 30mph and braking simultaneously when going over rough ground (non slippery), potholes or in my accident going over a 6” drain to my garage, the ABS kicks in when it shouldn’t and the brake pedal vibrates and the vehicle lurches a bit. The result is that the braking distance increases significantly. I can reproduce the issue in particular roads areas. The accident I had involved when I was parking the car and the drain cover was dislodged at the entrance to the garage. I hit the brakes as usual but the brakes were ineffective and I ended up crashing into my refrigerator and freezer in the garage which took the full brunt of the impact and were damaged. I hardly had any brakes at all and the fridges took the full impact. Luckily it was at low speed. So only the front bumper got cracked and got damaged along with the fridges being fully crushed in. After the incident I was so shocked at what happened and couldn’t believe I lost the brakes so I found that several other owners of the same vehicle has had the same or even severe brake failures. I was able to replicate the problem fairly consistently in certain roads where it was slightly bumpy or rough. I didn’t want to try in my garage for obvious reasons. Furthermore the emergency brakes and collision warning did not activate either.
We purchased this car new around June 2023 from a local Hyundai dealer. The car has been regularly maintained (at the dealer) and only has 20,000 miles approximately. In April of this year, my wife was drive on a very busy highway and suddenly all of the warning lights came on the dashboard and the car shuddered to a very rapid stop. She was lucky to pull off the road or it would have been serious. We got it into the dealer and they called a few days later to say it was fixed. Unfortunately, it was not. It happened again on June 20th this year. We had it towed back to the dealer. It has been there since (today is August 5th). They claim they cannot locate the issue and have been working with Hyundai Motor to troubleshoot. I filed a complaint with Hyundai (and really no assistance offered). Last week, they told us it was repaired and to come get it. My wife barely made it out of the lot before it did the same and came to a sudden stop. Not sure if this is happening to other Hyundai vehicles but this is certainly a dangerous situation... and the fact that they cannot determine the cause or how to fix, we are very concerned.
ABS system malfunctions when traveling over bumps and applying brakes simultaneously. This condition happens intermittently and is found to be present in other automobiles of the same make and model. (Experienced in a rental vehicle). The result of this malfunction is the sensation of the abs system activating by the presence of vibration in the brake pedal. This occurs for a short duration, accompanied by a brief but significant decrease in braking performance. This condition almost caused a collision while entering a busy intersection. Dealer service advisor was notified but declared it to be normal. Also, a formal complaint was sent to the manufacturer.
On July 16, 2025 in stop and go traffic on I55 the cra failed to stop at 5mph. The road was bumpy on an overpass. I attempted to stop the car. The brake pedal was hard and would depress. The accident avoidance system kicked on right before it was about to hit the car in front of me and stopped the car. After that the car braked fine. It did again on July 22, 2025 on a bumpy road. It felt like the car couldn't tell it was suppose to stop on the bumpy road. Almost ran a red light into oncoming traffic as the car only stopped once the road was no longer bumpy. That is hard when living in the Chicago area and the roads are terrible. Dealership claims there is nothing wrong with the car.
I noticed my right rear tire skidded on the road when I turned. Went to dealer. They didn't find anything. Leaving a drive through once I hit the other road crossing my tire did the same. It felt like the break was not releasing. Yesterday leaving my driveway we slowed down and both rear tires felt like you were dribbling a ball. As if the breaks were going on and off. It was less than 15 seconds but it was scary. I read an article where in other states other Palisades are having the same issue and they were not repaired. It has to do with the abs per the article. No warning signs pop up on my dashboard. I'm glad I don't drive fast. I'm worried something worse can happen. I did not report to police there was no accident.
ABS kicks on while going slowly over uneven, bumpy roads, or train tracks. The entire car vibrates and I cannot stop the vehicle even when hitting the brake as hard as possible. The car continues forward for a few seconds after causing me to nearly rear-end other vehicles stopped at a red light.
We were in slow traffic, stop and go…and my wife went to stop and the car started pulsating and the brake pedal did not work. I checked online and there are reports of this issue and there are no recalls for our car. This was not anyone’s imagination and she had to pull/turn the car to the right to plan on avoiding hitting the car in front of us…as it was pulsating.
At 2:38 pm on Thursday, April 17th, I was driving southbound on a street and I had just picked up my daughter from school. There were a lot of cars since school just got out. I was behind a car approaching a light going less than 10 miles an hour and braking lightly, then all of a sudden, the ABS system kicked on and my car jerked and vibrated violently forward for about 5 seconds and would not stop. I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me. Finally, I felt the brakes work normally and was able to come to a complete stop. There were no collision warnings or beeps even though I was very close to the car in front me.
This is a known issue happening to Palisades and Hyundai isn’t acknowledging the issue. A braking issue has been going on for a while but hadn’t become a safety concern for me until this month. While braking but moving under 10mph, even less, the ABS system will engage without warning when driving over bumps or somewhat uneven road surface. This includes speed bumps. This has happened to me multiple times but never caused me to be in harms way until this month. I was braking for a stop light on a road with numerous small potholes. As I was slowing to stop, the ABS issue occurred. I braked as hard as I could but continued to get the push back/the automatic pumping action of the ABS system and continued moving forward. The car was shaking as well. I continued pushing the brake/attempting to get the brake to engage the entire time, and my car finally stopped, mere inches away from rear ending the car stopped in front of me. I was slowing at a safe distance and would have stopped at more than a safe enough distance away if my car had let me stop. Now I’m deathly afraid of hitting a bump or some sort of uneven road when I need to stop and my car not stopping and hitting someone else, something else, or losing further control of the vehicle. No lights came on or any noises made to indicate a system was activated. My car also didn’t warn me of a possible collision and didn’t stop on its own, as it’s capable of doing. It’s as if the ABS issue overrode everything and my car just wouldn’t brake. I’ve never experienced anything like this with any other vehicle, driving on the same exact roads.
On Friday, February 14. 2025 at approximately 9:05 am I was leaving a parking lot to make a right hand turn on to a busy three lane road. Since this issue with the brakes has occurred three times previously I make it a point to drive no more than 10 mph in parking lots. The pavement was dry, then there was a 3 foot patch of thin ice, then the pavement was dry to the stop sign at the road. I pressed the brake pedal well in advance of the patch of ice and once the tires contacted the ice, the brake pedal pulsated harshly causing my vehicle to shake. This situation caused me to be unable to stop at the sign and I almost got broadsided. This is the third complaint I’ve filed regarding this matter. This is the fourth occurrence of the brakes acting in an abnormal manner (since June 2024) and whatever is occurring is terrifying. The dealership claimed it couldn’t replicate the issue and no warming sounds or lights appeared on my dashboard. I fear for my life, my spouse and children’s lives, as well as pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. Someone is going to get seriously injured or potentially killed because of this issue, therefore, I have to petition the agency to look into this matter in depth and hopefully open an investigation.
ABS system is engaging on gravel road when coming to a stop at 20-25mph. Brakes don’t work and vehicle starts shaking. Hyundai dealership is saying there are no issues but this has happened periodically 4-5 times.
ABS shakes when crossing over different terrains. Car does not stop as fast as it should. I am afraid for the safety of my family and other drivers on the road if I can't stop. I have brought the car to the dealer several times since I bought it new and they say they can't recreate it. The last time, they recommended changing my brakes. I brought it to a private mechanic and they said it's not the brakes, it's the ABS. Then I come to find out that many people have the same problem and some have had accidents as a result of not being able to stop. There are 2 class action lawsuits calling for a recall. Please make Hyundai fix this issue before there are deaths on their hands.
When slowing down using the break at low speeds over a bumpy terrain (gate track or drainage inlet) front of car shakes violently and vehicle does not slow down as fast as it seems like it should.
As I was driving my car to work on 11/8/24 my pallisades brakes failed to work. As i was approaching a red light after stopping at a stop sign, It started to vibrate, like trying to grab traction, it did not slow down and continue the same speed until I almost hit a car at the light. What stopped the vehicle was the emergency sensor that started beeping as the car sensed it was getting close to the vehicle at the light stopped. In the last second the car stopped with the emergency brakes an inch away from a car accident. I called Hyundai and brought the car to the dealership where they kept it overnight and until the next day in the afternoon. I was told that this was a known issue to Hyundai and they have had several people complain of this same problem. Unfortunately they said there is nothing they could do and I would have to wait until Hyundai the manufacturer decides what to be done. They also called Hyundai corporate and filed a complain on my cars behalf. Now I am stuck with a car I am afraid to drive.
I received a call but could not make out the name. I was highly disappointed as my car has been with McDonald Hyundai for a week with no resolution and his call was to tell me what they will not do. He could not tell me one Hyundai would do to fix my car. We are extremely frustrated for the below: It has been 1 week and I don't have a resolution I have spent hours away from work trying to solve your problem I bought a Hyundai because we take great care of our cars and drive them forever. We currently own: 2015 Infiniti QX60 - 232,000 miles 2011 BMW 535 - 123,000 miles 2016 Toyota 4Runner - 132,000 This Hyundai replaced a 2013 Ford Explores at 220,000 I bought this for reliability and serviceability, warranty - but the car is not reliable, cannot be serviced and you state can't do under warranty. the car is 14 months old and was bought new The Service Director Kevin at McDonald said he can never guarantee he can fix the issue and said he will never know of unknow issues. Message boards are full with people that have the same exact issue and Hyundai denies this and never finds the issue. Read the links below! "Hello Mr. [XXX] - This is Scott Krencik (McDonald Hyundai Service Director) I have been talking with a Hyundai America case rep regarding your Palisade. The vehicle has aftermarket DLC connections. This is not a warranty repair. I will attach the Hyundai service bulletin that discusses the issues that can happen when stuff is wired in like this. Your best option is to return to the selling dealer and have them put the vehicle back to stock & they should do this for free. Even if I remove it and make repairs, I do not know if there is hidden issues remaining. Please let me know what you would like to do." Dear Sir, My car has brake acceleration several times.
I was approaching a stop sign, slowing down to around ~20 mph, then gently applied the brakes. All of a sudden, the car stared to lurch forward and the steering wheel shuddered violently as the ABS braking appeared to kick in. As the brakes were applied, the vehicle kept bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and it took almost twice as long to stop than it should have. There was a vehicle in front of me and my vehicle was a foot from rear-ending that car despite me slowing in advance and attempting to brake gently. The collision warning system kicked in and I suspect that the vehicle stopped itself, even though I was firmly holding the brake pedal down. My wife experienced te identical situation a week later, so this is becoming very concerning. A quick search on the internet has revealed that many other 2023 & 2024 model year have experienced the same issues, and apparently Hyundai USA is aware of the issue, but do not have a solution to fix it yet.
Driving on a gravel road (with small pot holes and bumps) down a slight hill caused my brake pedal to shudder making it impossible to slow to a speed I felt comfortable with. I had to remove my foot from the brake pedal and step on it as hard as I could to slow down. This is a serious safety defect and the issue needs to be investigated especially since many consumers have submitted similar complaints.
When driving at low speed (<25mph) over uneven terrain, such as bumps in road or small potholes, and applying brakes, the Anti-lock braking system will engage and causing vibrations in the brake and steering column and the car will not slow down. This is documented by a multitude of drivers: [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Vehicle would not slow when brakes were applied. Traveling under 20mph on dry, level, clear, straight surface. Brakes were applied and no response from vehicle. More pressure was applied, still no response. As vehicle approached another vehicle it issued the proximity crash warning and came to an abrupt stop just inches from a collision. It is uncertain whether the crash warning or the pressure on the brake pedal was ultimately responsible for stopping the vehicle.
A severe safety concern with our 2023 Hyundai Palisade, which has been present since the day we received the vehicle. When braking on uneven roads, the brakes jitter and stutter. This issue does not seem to occur on flat surfaces; however, it is always at lower rate of speed when roads have bumps. On three separate occasions, I have experienced a complete loss of brakes, and my wife has faced the same issue at least five times. When this happens, standing on the brakes does not trigger any response—there are no warning alarms, and the brake system completely fails. The potential to hit another vehicle or pedestrian, or veer into oncoming traffic, is very high, and in fact, I’ve had to swerve into a curb (causing curb rash to the right passenger rim) to avoid a collision. Due to the severity of this problem, I no longer allow my wife to drive the vehicle. I have a appointment on 10/21 with McDonald Hyundai. I have noticed this since day 1 and regret that I did not act sooner! Upon conducting research, I discovered over 21 complaints on one website alone regarding the exact same issue. I am deeply concerned that the mechanics may not be familiar with this specific problem.
Under certain braking conditions, going over gaps in the road/bumps/railroad tracks and using the brakes, the brakes will lock up and stop working. The ABS seems to stop working, brake shakes hard and the car will not stop at times. Issue can occur at any speed, seems to be more common in lower speeds, under 25. Mentioned problem to specific dealership in Colorado and they did not seem to care about safety issue. Going to other dealership to have problem looked at. Appears to be an issue for certain 2023-2024 Hyundai Palisades in looking at online forums. Hyundai does not appear to have acknowledged this issue yet.
When applying the brakes at slower speeds the over-sensitive ABS violently activates causing temporary brake loss and shaking of the vehicle. This has been addressed at Hyundai dealership and symptoms were confirmed from the service advisor. I was told that this isn’t normal operation per Hyundai. Regarding another issue. The transmission will shutter combined with 3-5 second delay when up-shifting during acceleration. I was told by Hyundai dealership that is also “normal”. If this is “normal” then why has this concern just started developing. If this is normal, why hasn’t this transmission done it from day one when we purchased the car. We are not happy Hyundai’s attempt to sell us on this falsehood! These are definitely safety concerns and should be addressed.
At times, when going over bumps, the brake pedal feels hard and hard to push to the floor. Other times, the brake pedal shakes and the vehicle feels as if it is shaking. The vehicle does not stop when brake pressure is applied. At other times the brakes lock up and I skid across pavement. There are never ABS lights on the dash though. I have replicated this issue with a technician in the vehicle. The dealership has documented that they have been able to recreate this issue multiple times. The dealership even replicated the issue in a demo model the sales manager drives. This vehicle is unsafe. I have slid out into oncoming traffic multiple times now. I almost ran into my own home because the brakes would not work. At times, my brakes lock up going over uneven surfaces. The issue occurs frequently in parking lots, where I am afraid to hit a pedestrian. The vehicle drive, other drivers, passengers, and pedestrians are put at risk by this safety issue.
The ABS braking problem has not been mentioned to Hyundai or any other company or organization to date as it was just recently experienced. I recently put unscreened millings on the road end of my gravel driveway. When coming to a slow stop before entering the public road I now experience the brake vibration or chattering with deminished braking responce. Fortunately, I have not experienced this while driving on a public road in 35,000 miles.
I steep on the brakes when I was coming to a gas pump when I did that the car started to shake. It's seams it's was the ABS I thought the car was not going to stop. I had to press the brakes all the way down for the car it stop. I thought for sure I was going to hit the car in front of me.
Leaving parking lot. Approaching Exit to street to turn right. Going slow and applying the brakes. Hit a small crack or pothole in the pavement and the ABS kicks in. Brake shutters when abs occurs, but braking pressure is very light and car almost rolls into intersection. I think I had to quickly release brake and step on brake again to be able to stop the vehicle. It happened very quickly Vehicle is 1 year old. No lamps or codes. Happened again in similar situation. Trying to stop at lower speed. Hit a bump or loose gravel. Abs kicks in and braking pressure is drastically reduce even after getting past the crack or gravel
When hitting a pothole or bump at low speeds the braking system fails and does not brake. As if the abs system engages and leaves me going further when i need to stop. This problem always happens on the same street where i live
When slowing down from a slow speed the car will begin to shake. This is intermittent.
The ABS seems to kick in over aggressively. It will kick in and the brake pedal gets all jiggly on slight changes in road situations. For example, going into my driveway, driving over a manhole cover, etc. This has felt dangerous in several instances if I'm slowing down for a red light and the ABS kicks in and significantly increases my stopping distance.
The car would not brake when approaching a stoplight and I nearly ran into the vehicle in front of me. I had my daughters and a friend of theirs in the car and it could have been disastrous if I were to have not been able to brake and drove into cross traffic! This issue needs to be addressed immediately before someone gets seriously injured or dies!
My wife nearly crashed into a vehicle because the brakes on her 2023 Palisade would not work! I researched and she is not the only one this has happened to. It seems to be a known issue but there is no recall assigned to this, which is a huge safety concern for my wife and for our daughters, which were in the car when this happened. It could have been much worse if the brakes failed and the car were to drift into cross-traffic! This needs to be addressed immediately before someone gets seriously injured or even dies! In the meantime, our Palisade will not be driven.
Over sensitive ABS when going over bums or bumpy roads the breaks get really hard , makes a loud cranking noise and break peddle starts shaking really bad unable to bring the car to a complete stop I’ve taken it in and they said they couldn't mimic that reaction. It feels very unsafe specially when you have little kids in they car.
*Conditions: sunny, dry, about 70 degrees While driving at a lower speed (< 20 MPH), I started applying my brakes just before going over a railroad track. After starting to initially slow down, I crossed the railroad tracks and my brakes started pulsing very loudly but were no longer slowing down the car. Despite breaking about 5 to 6 seconds before the car in front of me, I just keep on rolling right up to the point where I was going to hit them and then the auto-safety stop slammed my car to a halt. I may have actually hit them, it was hard to tell. The driver even pulled over, got out and looked at their car, but gave me a thumbs up as if I didn't hit them. I'm extremely concerned that my brakes didn't work in perfect conditions when starting to break with PLENTY of time. I just went online to see if this has happened to others because it was so crazy, and it looks like there are numerous stories just like mine (i.e., when breaking on a bumpy surface). How in the world has this not been recalled?!!! My car has less than 20k miles on it and it has been regularly serviced via Hyundai dealerships. I have dashcam video to verify/corroborate my story. You can see that I was going slow to begin with, started breaking well before I needed to, you can hear my breaks grinding loudly, and the car is just not stopping until the last second before I'm about to crash where it slams to a halt from the automated stopping system.
ABS system activates when braking is applied over rough dry roadways, such as railroad tracks, rubble strips, or general bumps in the road, (minor potholes or manhole covers.)
While driving at slow speed I took my foot off the gas and applied pressure to the brake pedal. The brakes did not work properly; the brakes engaged and disengaged multiple times and the car continued to lurch forward almost resulting in a collision. This is a critical failure of the braking system and is extremely unsafe. In this scenario, I could have hit the car in front of me. Had I been approaching an intersection, I could have been in a severe collision. I brought the car to the dealership and they could not replicate the issue. They inspected the vehicle and did not provide any information on what could have caused the issue. No component was identified as the cause of the problem. No warning lamps were on prior to or after the incident. During the incident, I was not looking at my dashboard; I was trying to not hit the vehicle in front of me. The car has under 20,000 miles and has been driven for just over a year.
When moving over bumpy ground at slow speeds - the brakes don’t latch on properly. The entire vehicle shakes and continues to move forward in a bumpy fashion. Never happened to me in any other car and I drive the same routes everyday. Many people are complaining about it online for the Palisade - and it seems like Hyundai has confirmed the issue but isn’t fixing it or issuing a recall. Please take action!
Was turning right going down hill the road was slightly bumpy. During the turn it felt like the ABS system kicked in and the car was not slowing down. Also felt like I did not have any control of the vehicle.
Oversensitive abs system, experiencing shaking when going over small bump on road and have to hit brakes hard to stop
When pressing the brake pedal over uneven pavement (at low speeds of less than 10 mph) the brake pedal shuddered so harshly I thought I wouldn't be able to stop. The first time this occurred, I was driving over a manhole cover and braking as I was behind a school bus slowing to a stop at a stop sign - I thought I was going to collide with the bus. The second time occurred when turning into a parking lot which was uneven (where the parking lot met the sidewalk). This seems like a significant safety hazard that could cause crashes, injuries and fatalities. Please look into this.
The Hyundai Palisade 2023 faces a braking issue when going over an uneven or rough patch on the road. When the brake is depressed, the vehicle does not slow down. The brake vibrates and does not fully engage. Only when pressing the brake very strongly does it engage and bring the vehicle to a stop. Faced this issue a few times with no vehicles in front of time. Once as I was pulling out of a parking lot, I had the same issue and had cars ahead of me. I struggled to bring my car to a halt to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front of me. This is quite dangerous and should be addressed by Hyundai. Upon talking to multiple Palisade owners, they have all consistently faced the same issue. Some of my friends in India say they’ve faced the same issue on smaller size Hyundai SUVs that they own there.
Was in traffic on a summer dry day when I went to stop again at a speed under 15 and brakes locked up the steering wheel starting to shake and brakes were pulsating up and down I had to really push down hard and all the way on the brakes and it finally stopped the car. I almost rear ended the car infront of me no lights came on the dash no warning noises
After hitting any size bump my car does not stop, the car starts shaking, and I have to slam on the brake in order to stop. This has happened multiple times, the most recent caused me to almost run a red light and cause and accident. I am reaching out to the dealer today. The car did not show any warning lights on the dashboard.
Under slow speeds and while applying brakes over bumps, the breaks become unresponsive. The car does not react to pushing the brakes pedal. It almost feels like ABS is kicking in but the car does not slow down.
I was driving over train tracks at about 5 mph when my car wouldn’t brake. I was jamming down on the pedal and that eventually triggered a really aggressive ABS and emergency braking. I came millimeters away from hitting the car in front of me and the whole time it felt like I had zero control of the car and the car just had a mind of its own. Based on what I’ve read online I believe this is a known issue that Hyundai is ignoring.
I was slowing down approaching an intersection with cars already at a full stop up ahead. I was braking to slow down in preparation to stop. As I got closer, I drove over railroad tracks and felt the brake pedal begin to vibrate like the automatic emergency braking system kicked in. With my foot still on the brake, the car continued forward without any additional decrease in speed. I pushed my foot down as hard as I could and the car stopped inches from the car in front of me. I’m not sure if me pressing on the brake more even did anything or if some other collision avoidance system in the car stopped it before colliding with the car in front of me. There was beeping and the display switched to show cameras in front of the car, which happens when getting close to something while parking, etc. Luckily I was slowing and not at a high rate of speed. If I had hit the car ahead of me, there would have been damage but not major. What if I was going faster when this occurred? Or if I was braking for a person or bike? Or if it was collision avoidance that actually stopped the car here but I was the first car stopping in the intersection and couldn’t stop.
I purchased my vehicle from South Point Hyundai in Austin, Texas on [XXX], 2022. Almost immediately after purchase, I began having trouble with the vehicle’s braking system. In essence, the vehicle seems to inappropriately activate its ABS while braking over uneven surfaces (think-parking lots, speed bumps) in dry conditions. I have dashcam videos of at least three examples of this happening (from Aug ‘22 through May ‘24). I took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs that included the braking issue on or about [XXX], 2022, but the dealer claimed they were unable to diagnose and address the braking problem. There were no dash indicators or DTCs that were available. This problem continued to exhibit itself and was a matter of concern to our family, until the braking system’s failure caused a collision with a parking garage access gate arm on [XXX] 2024. This incident has created distress, and substantially impairs my family’s willingness to use the vehicle due to a now established safety hazard. We do not wish to put others in danger for a mechanical failure that we were told was non-existent when we tried to get it fixed in December of 2022. We have also been put in a tough situation because we do not have access to an additional vehicle for use while the problem is diagnosed at the dealer. Anti- lock brakes shutter the whole vehicle at slow speeds Then you have to lock up the brakes to stop the vehicle
My brakes stop working anytime I drive over lose gravel and brake or over speed bumps. It will vibrate. And skid. I have taken it in 5 times and they said it’s normal I owned 5 cars and none of them are like this.
While driving intermittently, the brake pedal becomes hard and does not allow for eased braking. The car continues to roll forward and appears unable to stop. After pumping and applying hard pressure, finally, the brake pedal depresses fully and forces a hard and immediate stop. The entire car seems to shake during the event. This has occurred approximately 5-8 different times at different speeds, all below 25 mph, such as in a parking lot and while exiting the freeway. There have been no lights or warning indications before, during, or after. The entire car shakes violently when the brake pedal is gently pressed. The car almost continued into an intersection of heavy traffic before stopping. The first and only appointment has just been made with the dealer for inspection tomorrow, April 16, 2024. No maintenance has been performed since the original purchase, and no other incidents have occurred with the vehicle.
When traveling at a modest rate of speed, if I apply the brakes going over any slightly uneven terrain the ABS triggers randomly and makes braking really difficult. It takes longer to stop and much harder pressure. I have reported this issue to the dealer but per usual they "cannot duplicate ", however it happens very often and my dash cam has caught it.
The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle continued to surge forward. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions while at a stop light. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 16,000.

Car brakes try to lock when going over certain potholes or speed bumps and brakes seem faulty
My 2023 Hyundai Palisade has experienced loss of braking/power braking at least three times (two of which almost resulted in a collision). It is not within recall 23V415000. After the first failure, the service center did the recommended repairs (replace faulty brake booster) of that recall. The brakes failed again shortly after. The service center also confirmed they felt the brakes go soft when they were repairing it a second time. This time they replaced the brake master cylinder assembly, pin assembly, etc. The brakes failed another time after this. We took it back to the dealership, where it has been since. We have lost all faith in the brakes of this car, and this presents a major safety concern to Palisade drivers and those on the road.
When applying the brakes if you hit a bump in the road the front end of the vehicle shakes violently and does not stop, lunges car forward
ABS system engages on graveled inclines and potholes, overly sensitive. Cannot stop in time and had times where almost hit car in front. Took to dealership and they state no issues. ABS should not be this sensitive where it engages in normal everyday driving.
My 2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy AWD engages the anti-lock braking system when I go over small bumps sometimes. It has happened at least twice in the last 24 hours and almost caused an accident because it resulted in a longer than expected braking time and distance. I have scheduled an appointment, but am unable to be seen for another two weeks so the dealer has not inspected it yet. There are no warnings, only shaking from the ABS and clearly reduced braking power.
I was going 5 mph, hit a small bump in road and the abs brakes kicked in and the car wouldn’t. I almost hit the car in front of me. Emergency system kicked in and luckily stopped the vehicle.
I was just turning right from a stoplight into a store parking lot when I lost power steering & my brakes were ‘difficult’ to push down. I barely got it out of the way of traffic and I turned the car off, got out, opened and closed my door, and got back in and it started back up and drove to the parking spot like nothing had happened. Sensors reset to 0. It happened again 2 stops away while in a drive through. I did the same thing and it started back up ok. It would do this every 2-3 days for 2 weeks. Finally it did it one day, 5-6 times. The day I called the dealership & said that I was afraid my 2023 Palisade was going to literally get me killed on the highway was when the manager was able to get me a loaner vehicle to drive. It’s been in the dealership for over a week. I saw the recall about the loss of power brake assist online and thought this may pertain to my Palisade.
Brakes failed. Brake pedal went to floor unable to stop. First the dealership said it was the ABS sensor failed. after they replaced the abs sensor they then determined the master brake cylinder piston ruptured causing the fault in the ABS . The repair has been made and brakes a working fine now.. However this failure could of resulted in q catastrophic accident The contact stated that repairs were made on the vehicle.
The engine shut off suddenly while driving 3x times in 17 days of ownership, brand new car. It happened leaving the highway (decreasing speed around 40-55mph) and the brake doesn't work properly when it happens (makes it hard to break and then suddenly brake at once). I was happy no one was in front of me for 3x and I could stop safely without hurting anyone. No warning or indicator light showed before problem happen, and even after. The car is currently at dealer for inspection, have a video of the dash when it happens (lights flashing and emergency beeping), dealer didn't took this serious, opened a safety complain at Hyundai case #20305592 Attached photo of dashboard with the message and lights after last stop This is a SERIOUS problem that could lead to a fatality soon or later, hope is only with me that this is happening.
