1. On several occasions while braking over uneven surfaces, the vehicle would not come to a complete stop, the brake pedals and steering wheel shook violently, and the vehicle continued to propel forward although I had the brakes engaged. This almost caused me to collide with other vehicles. The dealership could not replicate the issue and said it was a normal response. No, that is wrong; This is abnormal and dangerous. But at any rate, there was a safety recall recently to address the same issue that I have been complaining about so I hope it fixes the problem 2. Also, the paint on the roof rails and the door handles are flaking off. The coating and paint on the roof rails is splotchy, rough, and uneven, and the door handles continue to peel horribly. The dealership said corporate and parts denied my warranty request deeming the issue as normal wear and tear when the dealership said it was a paint and workmanship defect. No new vehicle should be losing its paint like this. Me simply opening a door and driving a car should not cause handles and roof rails to peel. It id getting worse. Also in conducting research on the issue, it is found to be a problem others have complained about as well. I have filed several complaints and claims in attempt to get my truck fixed.
I just purchased the new 2024 Palisade. We were traveling about 15-20 mph when approaching a stop sign when I pressed the brakes the ABS braking system went on and I could not stop the car. The car seemed to learch forward while the ABS braking was going on and the car did not stop in time and we traveled into the middle of the intersection. Good thing the driver coming from the cross street slammed on his brakes and did not hit us. The road we were traveling on was a little rough and bumpy at the point the ABS engaged when I was breaking. The braking after the incident seemed to be normal operation.
Automatic emergency braking. Vehicle has had several instances of slaming on brakes for no reason. Last time we were traveling about 35 miles per hour with a vehicle traveling behind us when system slammed on brakes locking them up and bringing us to a complete stop. We were traveling in the dark, in a rough road in a construction zone. No warnings lamps or messages. Scared us very bad. We are having the vehicle checked the next time we have in for service. Seat belts not fixed as of last service 10/25/25, per dealer no remedy available at this time.
ABS system activated when I hit a bump of any kind and I'm slowing down, like a speed bump, a 1/2"edge on my curb as I enter my driveway a little faster than usual. Or exit a long drive at that is dry and lower than the sidewalk and tires flyi over the edge of sidewalk and it activates pumping the brages repeatedly. Dates have been recent and a while ago. 11-25-25 and I don't have exact dates but probably 2 months ago and 4 months ago and 6 months ago and even 1 year ago. I took to the dealer but they said they couldn't recreate it so the couldn't fix anything. That was early on. I thought I was going to hit my garage door because it prevented me from stopping faster. It disengages my ability to use the brakes. They don't activate when being slammed on just when the road is rough. I looked in forums and many others have this issue. Please got it I hate it and it makes me want to return the vehicle because I don't feel safe when it happens.
During a routine inspection at Ron Marhofer Hyundai in Akron, OH on November 22, 2025, the technician reported that both the front and rear brake caliper brackets on my 2024 Hyundai Palisade were “caliper bracket dry.” The inspection sheet also included the following warning from the dealership: “If not replaced, the brake caliper will fail, causing a dangerous condition where either the vehicle will not stop or will pull severely to one side when it does.” This was found on a 17-month-old vehicle with about 33,540 miles. Brake caliper slide pins and brackets should not be completely dry on a vehicle this new unless something was defective in the lubrication, assembly, or materials. The dealership confirmed the condition, provided photos, and gave a repair estimate. I contacted Hyundai Consumer Affairs and the case was escalated several times, but Hyundai ultimately declined to cover the repair, even with the dealer’s written statement that the calipers may fail and the vehicle may not stop. Based on the age of the vehicle, the dealer’s warning, and the nature of the problem, this is a premature brake system defect that creates a real safety risk to me and others on the road.
There has been several occasions where I am coming up to a corner or to a stop light and when I brake and, there is an area of 'washboard' or pot holes, the brakes stop working. I took the vehicle into the dealership (7/24/2025) and told them about the breaking issue and they were able to replicate the issue, but they do not have a fix for it. It is very disconcerting when this happens and the car doesn't stop right away.
When driving over bumps, potholes, or railroad tracks with the breaks being pressed, the brakes would pulsate and causing vehicle to stop at a further distance. Due to taking longer time to slow down and stop, I almost hit another vehicle in front of me.
I have owned the 2024 Hyundai Palisade for 11 months. On average, I experience at least twice a month an issue with the braking system when coming to a stop. It appears mainly associated with uneven road or where loose gravel or asphalt maybe on the roadway. The vehicle's frontend vibrates and the brakes do not grab and hold. I have to release the brake pedal and then reapply the brakes, all the while my vehicle is continuing moving forward. Today, I was coming up to a stop light and almost went into cross traffic.
ABS System failure at speeds below 30mph/rough surface. ABS system shutters and braking feels as if the vehicle will not stop. Other owners are reporting the same issue, plus no fix yet from Hyundai.
I was coming to a stop and pressed on the brakes and my car would not brake . It started jerking but continued forward. I almost hit the car in front of me.
These vehicles are a hazard to the driver, passengers and others on the road. I have been experiencing regular failures of the brakes, which failed to stop the vehicle when and where intended. Always at speeds below 20mph, uneven pavement/surface, the vehicle experiences strong vibrations in the front, shakes violently and skids forward for a few yards uncontrollably. Brake pedal is unresponsive and must be slammed as hard as possible to have any effect on stopping the vehicle. I have been in near collision situations several times already, where I rolled onto the road with incoming traffic or almost rolled into the intersection. The vehicle is at the dealership for a month if not longer by now, for the third time and Hyundai corporate refuses to provide any solution. NHTSA and DOT MUST open a proper investigation into this. Hyundai refuses to solve it, has no solution and yet fails to recognize the defect and issue a recall or do anything about it. Fed government MUST step in ASAP.
There have been many times when driving, specifically over bumpy ground, but it has also happened over smooth/dry ground, where it feels like the anti-lock brakes suddenly kick in when they are not supposed to causing an inability to brake. You have to take your foot off the brake and brake again. This has caused several close calls of rear-ending someone or running through a stop sign or light. You must be keenly aware that this sudden braking inability/shaking of car, etc may happen and there always needs to be a lot of room in front of you. I mentioned it to the dealer, they noted there was nothing they can do but that they have reported it to Hyundai and Hyundai is aware and they have had other complaints. It has not been reproduced or inspected by anyone else at this time. I have not had any warning lamps or messages.
at low speeds on bumpy surfaces the entire front end, (brakes and suspension), sometimes shakes heavily when brakes are applied. Shaking is so severe that brakes have to be released then reapplied. When dealer was advised during a normal service the advisers claimed to have no knowledge of the issue. I had advised before visiting for the service however no action was taken by them. I shall visit another Hyundai dealer in the immediate future to attempt a resolution.
When stepping on the brakes on a somewhat bumpy road the brakes will at times stop braking and the car will still keep going unless you take your foot off the brake and step on the brakes again. This is a massive safety issue.
We own a Hyundai Palisade that continues to experience unexpected ABS engagement while driving, causing sudden and unsafe braking. This issue has nearly resulted in multiple accidents and poses a serious safety risk to my family and others on the road. The vehicle is currently at the dealership, and we’ve been informed that Hyundai is aware of the problem but does not yet have a fix. It is unacceptable that such a severe safety defect remains unresolved. We urge NHTSA to investigate this issue and hold Hyundai accountable for ensuring a timely and permanent solution.
ABS is malfunctioning on gravel slowing the stopping speed significantly. Stopping on uneven grounds is risky. Appointment made with dealership to review system. No warning light was on prior to during or after. This has occurred many times.
When applying the brakes on my 2024 Hyundai Palisade on a rough surface, the steering wheel shakes violently, and the brakes do not engage properly. I have on multiple occasions ended up in the cross traffic travel lane. So far I have not been in an accident. I took my car in to the dealership and they were unable to duplicate this issue and told me there was nothing they could do. They want me to come back after my next episode with the brakes.
It was a sunny day with no water around and I was pulling up to a signal and decide to put brakes on and the car didn’t break right away, instead the car slide for at least 10 ft before it came to a stop. This incident wasn’t the first one and has happened in exact same manner at least 3 times. All the times it has scared the driver as the driver doesn’t know if the brake feature works and when this happens the vehicle drags several feet before coming to a stop.
There is a known issue documented online regarding the 2024 Hyundai Palisade and the ABS system. On multiple occasions we have noticed that when driving at slow speeds (less than 25 miles per hour) and if the road is slightly uneven, gravel, on an incline or decline, the brake pedal start to vibrate and there is loss of control and increased stopping distance. We reported this previously to Hyundai dealership and they found no fault. Today, 9/30/25, the care was involved in a low speed collision in which the Palisade rear ended another vehicle. Once again the car started to skid and hit the other vehicle. I dropped the car off today at the dealership.
On 8/23/25 at approximately 7:20 PM, the vehicle approached a red stoplight in a turn lane to merge onto the highway, the car began to shake violently and the brakes functioned only minimally, not allowing the vehicle to slow down/stop as expected. The vehicle eventually came to full stop, however, given that there was another vehicle in front us that was stopped, there very easily could have been an accident, putting myself, my husband, and 3 year old son, as well as other vehicles, at risk of an accident/serious injury. The car, thereafter, functioned normally. The car was taken into the dealership, however, they stated that they could not duplicate the issue and there was nothing wrong with the braking system. There were no warning lights displayed on the dashboard. Upon further investigation, it appears other Hyundai Palisades have had similar issues, some resulting in serious accidents/injury, however it does not appear that the dealerships or Hyundai have provided any answers or ability to fix this issue.
I am unsure what exact component malfunctioned but in 5 separate times within the past 2 months, the vehicle has failed to stop at a normal time when pressing the brakes and a loud rumbling occurs. It feels as if I am sliding on ice.Two of the times it occurred on uneven road surfaces, however 3 times I could not identify an issue with the road. They all occured when coming to a stoplight/stop sign or when I had to stop due to a vehicle slowing down or stopping in front of me. In each occurrence I was going under 20 mph. The safety of others could have definitely been impacted as it took a few seconds to actually stop the vehicle more than it should have. Someone could have been walking and crossing the street in front of me. Or if I was too close to the car in front of me it could have hit it. No warning messages appeared on the dashboard prior, but during the occurrence in the last time, I noticed the word "shift" appear. This word could have shown up during the first few times and I could have missed it. On Tuesday September 9th I took it to the dealership and they checked everything out and the vehicle did not produce the same symptoms when they tested it out over the hour I was there. They said they reported the issue but they did not know the reason it was occuring.
I was driving my vehicle through a parking lot at a low rate of speed (approximately 5 mph) with my wife and three children in the car. A pedestrian suddenly stepped out from a shopping strip on the passenger side to cross the road, about 8–10 feet in front of my vehicle. I immediately attempted to apply the brakes manually. However, the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system unexpectedly took over and completely prevented me from braking. At that moment: - The car began vibrating and shaking while continuing forward at the same speed. - The brake pedal was locked and completely unresponsive to my repeated attempts to press it. - The pedestrian, realizing the vehicle was not stopping, was forced to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. After several seconds, the automatic braking system finally disengaged, at which point the brake pedal returned to normal function and I was able to regain manual control. This incident was extremely dangerous and could have resulted in a catastrophic accident, with both my family and the pedestrian at serious risk. The automatic braking system not only failed to stop for a pedestrian directly in front of the vehicle, but it also disabled my ability to manually apply the brakes.
When I am braking on a road with bad condition (bumpy, uneven, some minor potholes, etc.) the car starts to skid causing the wheel to shake, I lose control of the vehicle, and my stopping distance increases. It's like the ABS is overly sensitive and kicks in whenever the road has any of the problems stated above. This has almost led me to rear-end another car who is in front of me several times. This problem happens almost daily. My children, husband, and I drive in this car daily and it puts all of us at risk. I took my car to a Hyundai dealership , (Napelton's Auto Park of Urbana) and they were not able to reproduce the problem, therefore they could not find anything wrong. The vehicle and component have not been inspected by anyone except for the dealership mentioned. No warning lights, messages, and other symptoms have been displayed at any point in time, before, during, or after the problem occurs.
Since early ownership, my Palisade’s ABS activates improperly on bumpy/uneven surfaces like railroad tracks, construction zones, causing brake pedal pulsing, vibrations, and significantly longer stopping distances. Braking feels ineffective, as if the brakes “don’t catch,” unlike my wife’s new SUV, which brakes normally on similar surfaces. This occurs at low to moderate speeds (10-40 mph) on dry, rough roads like potholes or gravel, but not on smooth pavement. I believe the ABS/traction control system misreads wheel speed, reducing braking efficiency and posing a safety risk. The issue occurs 2-3 times weekly crossing railroad tracks near my home and daily on my highway commute through construction zones. I must maintain extra following distance (4-5 car lengths at 40 mph) to compensate, which is challenging in traffic. This defect nearly caused two collisions. In both, braking on rough surfaces at ~30-40 mph (with 2-3 car lengths ahead) extended stopping distances, forcing me to swerve into the breakdown lane to avoid rear-ending vehicles. This endangers my family and contradicts Hyundai’s safety ratings, a key reason for my purchase. I reported this to Branfon Hyundai in East Haven, Connecticut at my 7,000-mile oil change around November 2024 and was verbally told it was fineand again at 14,000 miles and asked them to document it April 2025. Both times, they documented my complaint but claimed it was “normal ABS behavior” and felt typical, offering no repairs or diagnostics. After another recent incident today I research the issue and the [XXX] v. Hyundai lawsuit (filed May 2025, CA) confirm similar ABS issues in 2023-2025 Palisades. Please investigate this ABS defect for a recall to fix braking performance. My family relies on this vehicle’s safety and was the main reason I bought it and most people who have families are sold at this safety award. I can provide service records or videos if needed. ABS system is malfunctioning when going over bumps. For instance, I tried braking when going over small bumps and car started jerking and skidding almost rear ending car and finally brakes kicked in at end. Happened 4 times now after buying it a year ago. This is a known incident online that needs to be addressed. Could be very dangerous at higher speeds and cause a wreck. Dealers apparently aren’t doing anything or Hyundai.
I am writing to formally report a safety concern regarding the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) in the 2024 Hyundai Palisade, which I believe may be a widespread issue affecting this model year. The problem has raised significant safety concerns, as it directly impacts the vehicle's braking performance. Recently, I began experiencing issues with the ABS system in my 2024 Hyundai Palisade. The brake pedal feels unusually soft or pulsates when braking, and there have been instances of skidding or loss of traction during routine stops were I have ended up in the middle of an intersection. I took the vehicle to a Hyundai service center, where they claim the system was performing normal. The technicians noted that the issue could be linked to the ABS control module or wheel speed sensors, but they could not provide a definitive diagnosis. The system has not been able to function properly since the issue started, and I am concerned about the vehicle’s safety. As a safety-critical system, the ABS is essential for maintaining control of the vehicle during braking situations, particularly under adverse driving conditions. The malfunctioning ABS system poses a significant risk to the safety of both the driver and passengers, as well as other road users. The inability to rely on the ABS system increases the risk of accidents, particularly in situations where braking efficiency is crucial. I have contacted my local Hyundai dealership for assistance, and they have attempted to address the issue through diagnostics and repairs. However, the problem persists, and I am concerned that this may not be an isolated case but rather a widespread defect affecting other 2024 Palisade owners. Given the severity of this issue and its potential to affect a large number of consumers, I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this problem to determine if it is a manufacturer defect that warrants a recall.
Any time I brake on bumpy roads or rail road tracks, my brakes start bouncing and i'm not able to completely brake until i've passed the bumps. There's bumpy roads all over and this is very unsafe and concerning every time it happens. The abs system needs to be looked at.
Driving and while stopping at a red light on an uneven road almost crashed into the car in front of me due to brakes not stopping, abs was activated and I could not stop car made a grinding sounds and my steering wheel shook and sho did the car.
The brakes appear to be skidding when coming to a stop at low speeds, even on pavement. Has occurred once on gravel and other times on patched asphalt. Two major incidents have occurred where vehicle would not stop and slid past stop sign and started to go into highway traffic. Driver has to stomp on the brake to get the car to stop. This has occurred intermittently at least 8 times since vehicle was purchased in Feb 2025. We have had it inspected at the Hyundai dealership 9/5/25 but no problems could be found with the brake system. It is scheduled to go back again after another skidding incident 9/15/25.
While driving and slowing down at a stop light the car started to trigger the anti lock brakes. The car was shaking and it would not stop. I put the car in park right before hitting the car in front of me. It was a sunny day with no poor road conditions. The road was a little bumpy but not anything extreme.
I was coming down a hill slowing down and when I hit a dip in the pavement the abs engaged and the car was shuttering and would not stop. It has happened a few times now on uneven surfaces like potholes or bumps in the road.
when going over roughts that are considered rough the abs braking system does not engage and I have multiple times of almost hitting the vehicle in front of me cause the abs are multiapplying but not stopping in a normal time, instead the distance is longer...this only happens on rough roads currently and not off roading but actual concrete/asphalt service/highway roads
When applying the brakes on uneven surfaces, the vehicle lunges forward, shutters and shakes and is uncontrollable, the brakes fail to work And increases stopping distance. this is extremely dangerous and needs to be fixed. This has happened multiple times.
Date: [XXX] Time: 12:00 PM Location: [XXX] (heading toward [XXX] ). - Turned left into the second entrance to the parking lot between [XXX] and [XXX]. My Vehicle: 2024 Hyundai Palisade Night Edition Incident Summary While entering the parking lot, the vehicle in front of me braked. When I attempted to brake (approx. 10 mph), my vehicle: - Began pulsing/jerking, consistent with ABS engaging. No matter how hard I pressed the brake my car would not stop it's kept pulsing - alerts and Beeping with a forward collision warning went off - car Lurched/jumped forward rather than stopping smoothly. This resulted in a minor rear-end contact with the vehicle ahead. Concerns for safety of myself and others because the car did not stop when hitting the brakes nor the collision warning initiate braking. CONCERNS - Concern that ABS or forward-collision system malfunctioned. - Service appointment scheduled for 9/9/2025 at 9:45 AM with Hyundai dealership. - Will keep a copy of the service summary for documentation. I've been dealing with an ongoing issue with my ABS kicking in when slowing down and driving over a bumpy surface since I purchased my car. I first reported this issue to Hyundai dealership and Hyundai Corporate Customer Care in July 2024.(As well as the NHTSA) At that time I had experienced this issue around 5 times. Since then, up to the present, I experience this issue on a regular basis and have brought my car into the local Hyundai dealership 4 times over the past year to fix. Each time I got the car back...it still was not fixed. I even had a technician from the dealership ride with me so I could show them...and he verified there is a safety issue. The dealership communicated with the Hyundai tech line and they were instructed to replace the ESC module in the ABS system. I picked up my car today, and the issue is still there. I went back to the dealer and even showed them a video of it happening today and the dealership said there is nothing they can do. Hyundai claims there is nothing wrong even though I have several videos and even had a local mechanic from the Hyundai dealership ride with me to experience this safety issue. I have called Hyundai Corporate again to escalate this safety concern. There is clearly a big problem and Hyundai needs to fix it before there is a serious accident or injury. Maybe pressure from your administration could help. I am willing to speak with anyone needing more information or copies of some of the videos I have taken.
When going over roads with small bumps that are spread a few feet apart, pressing the brakes unexpectedly engages the ABS. This causes the braking distance to increase drastically and also requires the brake pedal to be pressed with excessive pressure to even stop. This happens consistently and has nearly caused us to rear end the vehicle in front of us.
The ABS system in my 2024 Hyundai Palisade Limited engaged abnormally while making a slow turn. I was going about <10mph when my Palisade started to shake violently and I could not brake nor control the vehicle. I had two other passengers and if I was unable to gain control I would have jumped a curb and possibly rolled over since I was in a turn. I have not reported this nor spoken to a dealership. I am not sure how this will help since this has been reported multiple times by other Palisade owners and dealerships and Hyundai refuse to do anything about it. There were no warning lights or messages displayed. The vehicle also has the latest software update applied.
The palisade seems to have issues when breaking over potholes or bumpy streets. I think you could say they lock up and do not stop as they should. In addition the car actually shutters. This happens more than once in a daily basis because of the area I live in. I’ve brought it back to the dealer twice and because they drive on smooth roads, they do not duplicate this issue, which means they’re likely avoiding the issue because I can tell them where it happens all around my town. It’s extremely unsafe.
When going over small bumps on road and applying breaks, ABS system kicked in and would not stop car. I had to swerve away from car in front of me from stop hitting it. While doing some investigation on this 2024 Hyundai Palisades it seems that is a common problem.
[XXX]. While approaching a red light traffic signal ABS kicked in with a slight acceleration and reduced braking. There was a car ahead of me stopped at the red light. Applying normal pressure to the brakes was not slowing my vehicle requiring me to use both feet to force enough pressure to the brakes to stop within feet of hitting the vehicle in front of me. This was on a main public road and the road was rough. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I have taken my car into Hyundai three times time. When I am driving, coming up to a stop at a light, sign or because of a hazard, there are times my brakes lock up completely and I cannot stop my car. Each time I've taken my car, I've been told "we cannot replicate the problem we are unable to fix it" It happens at least 5-10 times a week. I've almost crashed at least 7 times and I have to move over to try and move out of the way, slam down my brakes in hopes that something clicks and I can stop. I know that I will crash one day but my equity is negative on my car and there isn't anything I can do. I have young children in my car and I could be a risk to anyone else on the road and I'm extremely disappointed in how Hyundai is handling this.
At low rate of speeds coming to a stop the ABS braking system will activate on uneven surfaces, loose gravel or rough terrain. When this happens you have no control when the car will stop. We've almost went into the back of another vehicle or went out into an intersection. This has happened multiple times and we've been made aware there is a class action lawsuit about this issue
GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT, APPROACHING STOP SIGN AND ANPTHER CAR WAS IN FRONT OF ME. THERE IS A DIP OR SOMETHING AND I WAS BRAKING TO STOP BEHIND THE PERSON WHEN MY BRAKES STARTED SHUTTERING AND THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP. IT JERKED FORWARD AND THEN RIGHT WHEN I WAS ABOUT TOP HIT THE CAR IT STOP SUDDENLY.
Issue has happened 2 times, when slowing down to a complete stop. the car began to shake violently at (approximately 5-10mph) and the car would keep creeping forward , until I kept pressing on the brakes really hard and finally it would stop creeping forward and stop . It almost caused me to hit the vehicle in front of me both times
Breaking failure on low speeds for up to a few seconds many times
I bought my 2024 Hyundai Palisade new in May of 2024 because of the safety features and impeccable safety ratings. Since purchasing this vehicle, I’ve had multiple instances of the brakes not engaging when I’m driving on uneven terrain, the most recent event was today while my young daughter was in the car. I live in a fairly rural area and frequently drive over railroad tracks as part of my daily commute. I’ve been driving for 20 years and NEVER had a car that had a braking issue. I’ve almost rear ended multiple people because of this. When crossing the railroad tracks, if all four wheels are not on flat ground the brakes will not engage. The car lurches forward and it will take double or triple the distance to stop the vehicle. It doesn’t do it every time, and has done it going as slow as 12 mph. There is currently a class action lawsuit filed in NY and OH that states Hyundai was aware of this issue during production and failed to tell anyone. I paid over 60k for this vehicle and Hyundai of Gainesville Ga is refusing to help me stating they don’t know of anyone having this issue and cannot replicate it. I’m going to end up rear ending someone because no one will hold Hyundai accountable. Please please help me. I have a little one to keep safe!
I have a 2024 Palisade, and any small bump, pothole, or lane bump causes my steering wheel to shake uncontrollably. If I go over a speed bump or come down an incline, the brakes make a rumbling sound, and if I try to brake, the brakes stutter and just shake. I’ve almost hit a car in front of me a few times because it didn’t want to stop. This is a very expensive SUV to be having these issues, and it’s a major safety concern.
While approaching a stop sign we hit a small crack in the roadway while applying the brakes. The brake pedal started pulsing and the vehicle would not stop. Luckily there were no cars approaching because we rolled thru the stop sign. This is the second time in a month this has happened. Apparently the manufacturer is aware of the issue but have not seen any type of recall.
When going on uneven terrain then trying to brake the ABS kicks in and makes the brakes unusable. I’ve almost hit the car ahead of me several times now. I have taken the car to the dealership and they cannot duplicate the problem.
Sometimes when trying to break on uneven surfaces the break seems to fail, shaking the car as if trying to break multiple times, which results in the car continue moving sometimes 10 feet over the stop sign, for example. The uneven does not need to be gravel, just minor bumps on the road sometimes trigger this issue, which makes me scared that I'll end up in an accident, as I already had a near miss one. This has happened now multiple times and is making me scared to drive. I took the car to Huyndai on 08/15 and they were able to reproduce the same issue, saying that it seems to be a misreading from the ABS system, but added that the car and its systems are functioning as per the designed specifications and there was nothing they could do. Their solution was to advise me to use more caution when breaking, avoiding sudden breaks and to allow for increased breaking distances, but this absolutely does not resolve the issue and places the responsibility to resolve the issue on the customer, which is absurd. I should add that the many times this issue happened to me, I was driving at very slow speeds (max was like 20 mph) and was slowly stopping at the stops signs of my gym center and the parking lot of my work, which leads to a busy highway. I am afraid one day I won't be able to stop the car and end up going into the highway and cause an accident hurting both myself and other people. This is incredibly irresponsible of Hyundai, it's playing with people's safety. I would have not bought this car had I known this was an issue.
Shook violently while pushing brakes and finally caught and stopped after pushing them hard.
When going over an uneven surface (railroad track/cobblestone/pothole) at a low speed, specifically while braking, the car starts violently shaking and prevents me from stopping the car. It has caused my car to go an extra 15-20 ft and even had to narrowly miss being T-boned twice (thank goodness the people coming saw me!) From what I’ve seen it is the ABS that is sensitive, but I’m not certain. I just know that it is dangerous and concerns me with children in the car. Dealer could not reproduce and told me it was “normal” over uneven surfaces- even asked why I was braking over the tracks (there is usually a stoplight or stop sign right after!). Hope this gets figured out quickly before someone gets seriously injured or killed, as I see many others have experienced the same. Truly a scary experience every time it happens.
On a number of occasions, the vehicle does not stop when hitting the brakes. The car shudders and shakes violently, while continuing to lunge forward before finally stopping. This has happened to me approaching crosswalks, intersections, and stop signs. This is a problem for many reasons as it is a safety hazard for me and my family, as well as other drivers and pedestrians. I brought my car to the dealership on July 11th, and they told me they had heard of this problem before. They would not return my vehicle because it was a safety issue that Hyundai Corporate is still investigating. On 8/6, my vehicle was returned to me. The dealership said they were not able to replicate the problem (after driving it for 3 miles). They did not fix my car or change anything, but corporate told them to release all vehicles with this issue. This is a safety concern that Hyundai is not addressing.
*ABS, yes available for inspection, you can completely examine my car *ABS kicked in without need, hard braking would not work, car pulsed into intersection *No *No *No Thousands are experiencing this involuntary ABS implementation and Hyundai is aware. Today my 2024 and a new 2025 were in the Dealership with the very same problem. My first instance occurred in July 2024
When traveling on a bumpy road the brakes failed to engage almost causing an accident. This happen twice within the last 10’days.
I have noticed repeatedly when the 3 following conditions are met the anti lock brakes do not function correctly. The vehicle is moving slower. Below 30mph but usually this is below 15 mph. The vehicle goes over a bump or series of bumps I am braking. Usually bringing the vehicle to a stop. The ABS will "overreact" and kick in causing the vehicle to not stop in a timely manner. The ABS will continuously operate until the vehicle stops. Removing your foot from the brakes and reapplying them will fix the problem. Which is counterintuitive as to how ABS works and the problem it alleviates. I would expect a normal vehicle to not even apply the ABS in such a situation as other than some normal bumps or cracks in the road all other conditions are normal. I am not slamming the brakes. I am not employing any emergency steering input. This is just me coming to a slow stop. Note this is an ongoing issue and was not a one time event.
Over the course of 6 mos. I've experienced several instances while braking on uneven surfaces, wherein the ABS system of my 2024 Hyundai Palisade reacted surprisingly very unpredictably. On 2 occasions this caused a near-miss; one of which involved braking while turning a corner on a rough surface and the car skidded/skipped (wheel-hopped) unpredictably. In another near-miss, I quickly released/reapplied the brakes which seemed to deactivate this erratic ABS behavior. My vehicle was recently shopped at my local is Hyundai dealership for routine maintenance/defects. This ABS malfunction was also to be addressed. The dealership reported to me that they were unable to duplicate, the car was operating as intended, no trouble found...Of course, I was highly. unsatisfied with this response, particularly after having taken a test drive with the service department supervisor, demonstrating the issue while driving and reviewing relevant online forum discussions that documented the exact issue I've been experiencing. PLEASE HELP BY DEMANDING HYUNDAI IS IMMEDIATELY ADDRESS THIS LIFE THREATENING ABS SAFETY DEFECT BY MEANS OF AN URGENT RECALL! Thank you.
When driving down bumpy roads and you try to stop, abs kicks in but doesn’t stop the car right of way. You have to hit the pedal down all the way to stop if there is another car in front of you. HS happened multiple times in the same area in dry conditions.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Multiple safety-critical systems have failed repeatedly, including: •Engine (multiple shutdowns while vehicle was in motion) •Automated Emergency Braking (AEB) (activating without cause while reversing) •Brake Pedal (intermittently unresponsive with audible rattling) •HVAC (leaking fluid into the passenger-side floorboard) Yes, the vehicle is currently with the dealership (Stamford Hyundai, CT) and is available for inspection. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? • The engine has shut off without warning while the vehicle was in motion, including in traffic, creating the potential for rear-end collisions. • The emergency brake has slammed on while reversing, without any obstacles present, risking whiplash and collisions with pedestrians or nearby objects. • The brake pedal becomes unresponsive, with a loose/rattling sensation, making it difficult to slow or stop the vehicle safely. • The HVAC leak creates slippery floor conditions, posing a secondary risk for occupants during ingress/egress. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The dealership (Stamford Hyundai) acknowledged some issues but stated they were unable to replicate all of them. However, the brake pedal defect is consistently reproducible and occurs daily. Multiple videos and logs have been submitted to Hyundai’s consumer affairs team. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle is currently under inspection by Stamford Hyundai. Hyundai Consumer Affairs (case managers Noorpreet and Taruni) have been involved and have reviewed videos and documentation. No inspections by police or insurance. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No.
Unknown, but feeling a lot of issues in this area and very sensitive.
On multiple occasions, my 2024 Hyundai Palisade (VIN [XXX] ) has experienced a serious safety issue involving the anti-lock braking system (ABS). While traveling at low speeds (approximately 5–15 mph) over bumps or uneven surfaces, the ABS has unexpectedly activated, preventing the vehicle from slowing or stopping when the brakes are pressed. In each case, the vehicle continued to move for an additional 10–16 feet before the brakes finally engaged. This issue has occurred repeatedly, including on: [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] Each incident created an extremely dangerous situation. I narrowly avoided a collision by swerving to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. Fortunately, no pedestrians or oncoming vehicles were in the immediate area—otherwise, the outcome could have been catastrophic. I reported the issue to Koeppel Hyundai in Long Island City, NY, on July 14, 2025, and brought the vehicle in for inspection that day. A technician acknowledged that other Palisade owners had reported similar incidents. Their only recommendation was to disable the "Auto Hold" feature, suggesting it might be contributing to the problem. I followed this guidance, but the issue reoccurred on [XXX] despite Auto Hold being turned off. This is a critical safety concern that requires immediate attention and a definitive repair—not just a workaround. Until Hyundai identifies and resolves the underlying issue, this defect puts drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at significant risk. Please advise on the next steps for a full investigation and proper resolution. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While approaching a stop sign there was a crack in the road and as wife was applying brakes she hit the crack and vehicle started shaking and brakes would not stop vehicle. This has happened three times.
Car skidding when I hit the break on uneven surfaces, specifically going down an incline. My car almost skid into oncoming traffic.
ABS system engages when it shouldn’t, causing stopping problems. Caused my wife to run out in middle of intersection and not get stopped in time. This seems to be a common problem with this vehicle and nobody knows how to fix it
Yesterday [XXX] the car basically failed to stop when I braked and was nearly hit by the approaching vehicle. I immediately called the service dept of the dealer and taking it in for diagnostics. No warning lights ever popped on. So what happened is I was getting on to the road from the parking lot and started braking to wait for the approaching cars to pass but instead of stopping all I got was vibrations and shaking all while not stopping. The car got almost half body length out on the road making the approaching cars swerve and honk at me. The only way I managed to stop it was stomping on the brakes as hard as I could, which worked. But it freaked me out and sent my kid in tears cuz the stopping was so violent. I am aware of the ABS issue with these models and experienced it 5-6 times before but never it was a near collision situation and especially with the kid on board. I called the dealer right away and am taking the car in for diagnostics. I told them about the issue and history of similar events but all I heard back was “oh, sorry it happened, come in for a diag. We have never heard of it.” We all know by now about the faulty ABS system in Palisade and the class action was just filed against Hyundai last month. So I wonder what will it take for them to admit the problem and issue a remedy. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Approaching main hwy very slowly to stop. Prior to stopping the car started shaking & Making the horrible load noise. it was a terrifying exerpience. took it to Wallace Hyundai today where we purchased it new. Told them what happened, they stated it was Probably the ABS brakes. No solution, could not repeat what had happened, I told service Person it felt like 4 flat tires running over bricks. I was scared . HYUNDAI said let them know if it happens again …..
ABS activates when going over small bumps while breaking to a complete stop.
When braking over uneven surfaces or while the vehicle dynamics reduce the weight on the wheels, the ABS system activates and greatly increases the stopping distance.
When coming to low speed stops at stop signs over uneven/SLIGHTLY bumpy roads, brakes rumble uncontrollably and resist stopping, thrusting my car past stop signs into oncoming traffic. This has happened SEVERAL times, thankfully without accident, and is extremely scary. It MUST be addressed!
The Palisade has been intermittently acting up approaching a stop and the pedal pulsates and pedal travel is much longer, stopping distance is lengthened but when all of this is going on, not one light or warning is shown. No ABS light, TRAC light or Skid light is illuminated.
Over the last week my Palisade has kicked on the ABS brake feature which has resulted in the vehicle to not stop timely. This was on a flat, paved road and was no reason for this feature to kick on. It has nearly resulted in an accident. We have brought to dealer and reported the issue but seems to be a more wide spread issue than we thought after doing some research online.
My brakes are intermittently disengaging during bumps and potholes. I experience a rattling undercarriage and pedal vibration. Sometimes I must crank the steering wheel to regain braking. This poses an immediate safety risk to myself and others. The service advisor mentioned other customers coming in for the same issue. I have had my car in three times for this issue but they’ve never been able to replicate the issue. It has been an ongoing issue since the inception of the lease but has gotten progressively worse. This is a life-threatening issue.
I am reporting a recurring and hazardous issue with my 2024 Hyundai Palisade. When driving over uneven or bumpy surfaces—such as city streets with potholes, manhole covers, or brick pavement—the braking system fails to respond appropriately. Despite applying the brakes at low speeds (approximately 25 mph or less), the vehicle does not decelerate as expected. This results in extended stopping distances of approximately 15–20 feet, posing a significant risk of collisions or harm to pedestrians. This issue has occurred multiple times under various conditions, including dry roads and moderate temperatures. There are no warning lights or error messages displayed on the dashboard during these incidents.
I will drive at low speeds (on residential or approaching stop light) and start pressing my brakes and then the car starts violently shaking and DOES NOT STOP… it keeps rolling forward. I lose brake power. The longest distance I’ve went without brakes working was 20 feet. I have little children and bought this car for safety features. I feel extremely unsafe. The problem is intermittent and Hyundai doesn’t know how to fix the issue because they stated there is no “check engine lights or codes” popping up. Very dangerous. This is going to get people killed. They need to recall Hyundai palisades for brake issues.
When braking on uneven surface like gravel, bumps, ect. The vehicle may shutter and continue lurching forward. Takes around double the stopping distance expected and has been close to accidents multiple times. This has happened many times since purchasing the vehicle brand new in 7/2024. No warning lights or messages pop up when this is happening. We took the vehicle in for inspection around 2/2025 but they could not replicate the issue so didn't even look at the parts for any concern. No other person has examined the vehicle besides the dealer on that visit. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Is definitely a danger to drive in good road conditions but very concerning to drive in rain or snow with not knowing if the brakes will perform or not.
I was ata yield sign and the car in front of me started to go and had to slam on their brakes because a car ran a stop sign. I had started rolling forward and hit my brakes when I noticed she had hit her brakes. My vehicle started to vibrate and keep going. It did nit stop right away it way like it was just skiding. My vehicle has done this before but this time it did not stop quick enough to avoid hitting the vehicle in front t of me I have notified Hyundai of the issue and after doing research I have found Hyundai is awRe of an issue with the 2023, 2024 and 2025 models. There is also a class action law suit for thus same reason. I am waiting to hear back from Hyundai.
I have had while driving slowly (parking lot speeds) over uneven surfaces like cobblestones the car has trouble breaking, it lurches forward, brakes make terrible noise, and car vibrates. This has occurred at least 3 times. It is unsafe if I would be unable to stop as needed in time.
Hi, my name is [XXX] and I leased a 2024 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy last summer. I have been having issues with my car skidding on rough or uneven pavement and I brought the car in for service to check the issue. I was told by the dealership that my issue is "normal" and it's how the ABS system works. This is obviously ridiculous because no car is supposed to skid on regular roads with no snow or ice. The car skids and the wheel shakes and my brakes do not work for a few seconds. I have to basically slam on the brakes and pray the car stops. I told the dealership it is definitely not normal. They said they would check the car and call me. I got a call a couple hours later telling me the ABS system is working fine. When I googled the issue, I saw many, many complaints about this issue and a class action lawsuit that has been filed. I picked up my car and asked the representative to speak to a manager. He said they all leave at 4:00. It was 4:30. I asked him how Hyundai is ok with sending people like me back out on the road knowing the ABS system is faulty and causes loss of brakes? He replied "Until Hyundai issues a recall, there is nothing we can do." I have owned Hyundai cars in the past and have always admired them as a company. They offer great safety and great warranties. But now I ask why they are ignoring this obvious safety issue? What will happen when a person driving a Palisade loses brakes and God forbid hits a car or a person? Please make this right and fix these cars so that we can feel safe on the road. My children drive my car, though I won't be allowing that anymore. Please advise on next steps. Vehicle Safety Concerns and Lack of Dealer Support As we approach a stop going about 20 mph and begin to apply the brakes as we pass over some slightly bumpy ground. The car lurches forward repeatedly as the brakes were applied, bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and taking twice as long to stop than it should have; this has pushed us into intersections. We've brought the vehicle in several times to no avail as the dealership says nothing is wrong. We contacted Hyundai Corporation to discuss this issue and determine any other feasible solution but unfortunately they were not able to assist in a timely manner. The braking problem has persisted. The vehicle exhibits issues when driving over uneven roads or on gravel—the brakes engage improperly, causing the vehicle to skid before ultimately stopping. This results in a dangerous situation where the car stops much farther than intended, posing a significant risk of collision, particularly at intersections. We have a [XXX] and we bought this brand new vehicle for the sole purpose of it being reliable and safe and it has been nothing but trouble. Please help us with this, we are at a loss of what to do. This is going to kill someone someday. You can also find others with similar situations online and it appears there is a class action lawsuit that has been filed that demonstrates the same issue we are having. The ABS system malfunctions when braking at slow sleeps either on bumpy roads or even sometimes while turning
The ABS system kicks in on uneven surfaces even at the slowest speeds. It is almost impossible to stop and have almost hit people several times. This is coming to a stop even if it’s at 5 MPH and the road doesn’t even seem uneven. It is very scary and I’ve almost had an accident multiple times due to not being able to fully engage the brakes.
There’s an issue with the anti-lock braking system when you drive over a bumpy surface like large gravel that causes the anti-lock system to kick in and apply pulsed braking resulting in the car having dangerously long stopping distances. I’ve had this occur twice. The first time was going downhill on a driveway with large gravel. I tried to apply the brakes to sow down, the anti-lock braking kicked in and just kept repeatedly cycling. If I would have needed to come to a stop, it wouldn’t have happened. The second time it occurred could have resulted in an accident. I was leaving a paved parking lot, preparing to pull out onto a busy highway. When I was preparing to stop at a traffic signal at the end of the parking lot, the lot was bumpy and the ABS kicked in. It kept pulsing and the car didn’t stop until I was past the terrific signal and I was partially into the road before it came to a stop. The ABS system needs recalled.
When braking on an off ramp, the vehicle began to shudder. The steering wheel and brake pedal were shuddering as well. The vehicle came to slower stop than usual almost causing us to rear end the vehicle in front of us. This has happened prior on uneven roads when slowing/coming to a stop. The dealership does not have an answer and couldn’t reproduce it
I was in stop and go traffic on a side road. I was traveling about 5-15 mph on an uneven road surface. The traffic stopped in front of me and I applied my brakes. I heard the grinding sound of the anti-lock brakes but my car did not stop. My foot was to the ground on the brake and it didn’t even slow down. I ended up hitting the car in front of me. This has happened before but I never hit anything before. It happens all of the time on uneven road surfaces such as man hole covered, rail road crossings, or construction or potholes.
Braking on rough road before cross street engaged what felt like anti-lock. Brake pedal vibrated under foot, went all the way to the floor and car failed to stop as expected. Has to release brake completely and reengage to stop. Was quick enough to do do before moving into oncoming traffic.
When I try to stop on a brick road the abs comes on and the breaks press up on my foot and the car does not stop immediately as it should.
When I am stopped at a traffic light (or even when traffic comes to a stop on the interstate highway in traffic), when I begin to drive again, all of a sudden the automatic braking system engages and slams on the brakes when there is nothing in front of me that I could collide with (because the car in front of me has driven forward and out of the way). Each time it happens I am terrified the person behind me is going to rear end me because I have started to drive already and the car suddenly and inexplicably slams the brakes on hard. I can’t find a rhyme or reason to when this occurs - I can go weeks without it happening and then suddenly it will happen once or twice and then weeks again without it happening - making it tough to recreate.
Our car shuttered quite strongly on two occasions, while going at a low speed (around 5 miles per hour) and applying the brakes over a rough surface (pavers and a speed bump). We advised Larry H Miller Hyundai Peoria Service Department of this when we took the vehicle in for our complimentary maintenance on 12/03/24. They advised there was a TSB with this as a known issue and they found "7949 Front Brake Rotors Warp 51712A00 1.10 verify and found front brake rotors out of round perform front brake rotor machining and test drove car and verify working operation." They also advised their protocol was that the manufacturer would not replace them until the rotors were shaved 2 or 3 times (we have now had them shaved once on 12/03/24).
I was going about 20mph or less on a bumpy side road in the city and couldn’t stop at a stop light and almost hit the car in front of me. The brakes just did nothing when I mashed down and finally kicked in and I stopped before crashing into the Honda in front of me. I just reported it to Hyundai and online says there’s a class action lawsuit for this exact reason.
Breaks occasionally make the car jump or shake excessively. This has happened randomly about 4 times already since we purchased the vehicle.
I was going over a speedbump in a parking lot, following traffic. When my front wheels went over the bump, my Palisade started shaking uncontrollably, I had ZERO brake power and just missed hitting the car in front of me that started to pull away! I reached out to the dealer who stated that this is 'normal' to happen from time to time. This happened in October, 2024. I went to an online forum for a Palisade group on FB and asked and could not believe how many people this has happened to!! The general content was they were all told it was normal too, which we simply do not believe. Then it just happened today!! In my own driveway, gravel. I almost ran straight into the garage door going under 5 MPH, but again, very scary! I carry around my four grandchildren alot and the thought of this happening and them being hurt has caused me to reach out to NHTSA. PLEASE HELP UP GET HYUNDAI TO FIX THIS!!!
I was leaving a parking lot and getting ready to turn onto a busy road with my family. As I approached the road and started to brake, we went over a number of pot holes. When that happened, the whole car started to shake and I noticed that we were not slowing down. I don't know what was going on but I was scared. We were approaching a busy road quickly and I did not feel safe. I pressed HARD down on the brakes and eventually we came to a HARD stop. I told my wife what happened and she said that similar things have happened to her when she was braking and she had to swerve off of the road to avoid hitting the car in front of her. There is definately something going on with the ABS system. Going over the bumps through off the entire system and would't let me brake. I have not taken it to a dealer and it has never been inspected by anyone. Prior to the issue, there were no warning signs that came up prior to the issue, or afterwards.
This has occured multiple times. In each event, I was driving over 30mph, and had to brake hard (pushing on the brake pedal to an effort to slow down rapidly). The car's brakes locked up ...the abs engaged and braking was good, but it did not release as i let my foot of the brake, causing my car to come to a near complete stop. The car behind me, nearly rear ended me. As noted above, the vehicle's brakes do not release, after a hard brake, when you pull pressue OFF of the brake pedal.
The ABS system is faulty. When traveling at relatively low speeds (<20 mph) and over uneven surfaces (train tracks, pot holes, speed bumps, entering parking lots) the brake pedal will go all the way to the floor while the vehicle stutters. The ABS makes the vehicle shake even after the surface has returned to normal and the vehicle stopping distance dramatically increases from where it should be. This is repeatedly replicated and has nearly resulted in rear-end collisions. Having driven many, many vehicles with ABS systems this experience is NOT normal and needs to be investigated for a recall.
ABS locking up when slowing down.
•What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? My brakes. When I’m driving slowly over any type on bump in the road, railroad track, pulling in a driveway, dirt roads, or gravel roads my brakes lock up the whole front of my car shakes and the vehicle almost jumps up and down and then it takes about 3-5 seconds for me to be able to slam on my brakes to come to a complete stop while still inching forward before I can fully stop. •How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I’ve almost ran into a mailbox, almost got rear ended and almost braked out onto a highway because the brakes locked up. My safety and the safety of other is major concern with the brake issue and not being able to stop, those few seconds make a difference. •Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I’ve had my car to the dealership 5 times. The second time one guy was able to duplicate the issue, so they fixed some part, but that didn’t solve my issue I had it back to them within a couple of days. The other times they have not been able to duplicate the issue. •Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? This last time I brought it an engineer was supposed to come and look at it but when the tech explained what is going on he says it supposed to do that. It is not supposed to what it is doing because it’s a major safety issue for me and others since I can’t break. •Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? When the issue arises there are no warning lamps or messages that come up on the dashboard or anywhere. Also, no code is thrown when the dealership hooks it up to the machine. Another thing when I’m driving down the road sometimes you can feel the brakes wanting to lock up for no reason at all. Before I get to any bump
Issues where the breaks are ineffective. Usually at slower speeds going over brick road, uneven surface. Told hyundai about first incident when they did oil change on December 27th (at which time it had occurred twice) and they stated no issues with breaks. Has happened now more often (averaging one time a month or more). Took my vehicle in again on May 20th, 2025, they said they couldn't replicate the issue so I went back to the dealership on May 21st, 2025 and did a ride with a tech where we got the issue to trigger multiple times. Dealership had not provided an update until a few minutes ago. They stated they called their tech service line and that "they could not advise them on a repair" - service manager said that's the first time he's heard that and the car is with his manager and who will be trying to call their local area rep. Said if they cannot advise on a repair, it may not be an approved under warranty repair.
The ABS system is over sensitive or not working properly. If I am applying minimal break pressure over any uneven surface such as a small crack in the road, bump, gravel or uneven surface the ABS will engage and cause the vehicle to lurch forward at least 5 feet. This has caused multiple near miss accidents. This is an accident waiting to happen.
Car has had multiple issues with brakes where it shudders on brick roads. There have been two incidents on brick roads where the car won’t brake and has slid into oncoming traffic. Hyundai is aware of the issue but, has no fix for it. They say it is safe however, definitely not safe when sliding into oncoming traffic.
Coming to a stop sign, brakes would not engage, steering wheel shaking loudly. 1mm from rear ending the car stopped in front of me. The emergency brake came on right before I would have crashed. Prior to the brakes not engaging/wheel shaking no lights or warning signals from the car.
Over a bumpy street coming to a red light (stop) car stalled and failed to stop almost hitting another car. Car made a funny noise and brake petals needed alot of pressure to pust to floor
i have had multiple incidences over the past year where in stopped traffic, the car will suddenly slam on brakes as all cars start to pull off in traffic. I have almost been rear-ended by the car behind me with these sudden stops. Often when this happens I try again to pull forward and it will slam on breaks again and I have to quickly put it in park and then drive again to get it to let me begin to drive forward. There is nothing blocking my path forward. This usually in multi-lane traffic stops, so it appears that it is confused by the movement of cars in front of me and beside me. I did take it to the dealership and they could not replicate the issue since it is intermittent. They did not see any error codes that were logged either so couldn't help me with the issue. I also receive for long periods of time when driving more than one hour a message on the instrument panel that says "Forward Safety system limited. Radar blocked." This eliminates cruise control and forward safety systems linked to radar.
As the vehicle drove over railroad tracks the steering wheel began to shake violently and I attempted to push the brake pedal with my full body weight but the brakes would not work and the car lunged forward, striking the vehicle in front of me. The failure of the brake system on my 2024 Hyundai Palisade prevented me from stopping the vehicle and thus I impacted the vehicle in front of me putting not only my life in jeopardy but also the driver of the car in front of me. I sustained a neck injury and headaches and have required ongoing medical care as a result. This vibrating steering wheel and braking issue has happened in the past several times and was reported to Wiesner Hyundai on several occasions; however, the dealership was not able to recreate the problem. The vehicle has been inspected by the service department at Wiesner Hyundai. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problems prior to the failure.
I love my palisade but the only terrifying thing is what happens at low speeds if I apply the brake on uneven surface/pothole it feels as if the brake falls out from under my foot, a loud rattling noise/vibration happens and it becomes nearly impossible to stop. Extremely dangerous I have a [XXX] and another child on the way. I don’t know how this car got top safety pick with this issue. I have read many others having the same issue with their 2024 palisade. I have had a few near misses with accidents because of this happening. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Went over railroad tracks approaching intersection approximately 40 feet from tracks. Tapped brakes while going over tracks (light was red) and anti-lock brake system kicked in. I was suddenly unable to stop the vehicle as the brakes were not working and I was continuing to lurch forward toward the intersection at approximately 10 mph. The brakes continued to fail for approximately 1 - 1.5 seconds before I let off and slammed down on them as hard as I could and finally slammed to a stop. My car at this point, had gone slightly into the intersection, but not enough to get clipped by a car. Had I not let off the brake and re-hit it with force, I fear I would have continued to roll into the intersection where I would have gotten T-boned by traffic. There were no warning lights or lamps that kicked on when this happened but the steering wheel and brake were vibrating. This is a newer vehicle - less than a year from purchase, but I plan on taking it to the dealership to look at.
Driving on a 4 lane street at approximately 25 mph in the right hand lane next to curb when another vehicle swerved from the left lane into my lane. I slammed on the brakes in an attempt to stop and avoid any contact with the other vehicle. All the brakes did was a hard and long shudder, and did not seem to even slow my car let alone stop the car. Fortunately, the other vehicle attempting to swerve into my lane stopped. My vehicle never stopped and only seemed to slow down slightly. All I could do was to move my vehicle more towards the curb. At the time, I did not feel any impact and assumed no contact or damage. The other driver continued down the road and got onto the highway. When I got to a place to stop, I looked at my vehicle and do have damage to the left rear wheel well trim and back quarter fender area. My car would not stop. It felt as the ABS system was modulating hard. The road was dry, and the temp was in the mid 60's. This is not the first issue like this, and Hyundai says there is no problem and they will not fix it. The last time I took into the shop for this, it was there almost 90 days before Hyundai said come get the vehicle.
driving in parking lot towards exit to turn onto street. speed approximately 10 - 15 mph. I applied the brakes when approaching the stop sign at the intersection. The brakes shuddered hard and the vehicle did not slow or stop. I let off the brakes and immediately hard pressed the brake peddle to attempt to stop the vehicle before entering the intersection and on coming traffic. The vehicle then stopped with the nose of the vehicle in the intersection. The brakes failed again. This was the 2nd time today I had an issue. The road surface was dry and the temp was in the 60's. There was no impact/contact with any other vehicle, but it was once again very close to having a wreck. The vehicle was at Hyundai for almost 90 days for the same issue late last year and into 2025. Hyundai repeatedly said there was a software update coming, but that never happened and they ultimately said there was no issue, no update, and come get the vehicle. I will be taking the vehicle back to Hyundia today. There are "NO" warning lights, faults, or any other indicator of a failure.
ABS system kicks in under low speed, light braking situations when going over sudden bumps like train tracks and uneven pavement. This prevents the car from stopping in a normal distance, potentially causing accidents or stopping in the middle of an intersection. A recorded example of this issue can be found at the link below: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When driving at slow speeds maybe 20-25 mph, I pressed the brake pedal and it vibrated violently and the brakes wouldn’t bite. It felt like it was skidding on ice but the road was completely dry. Very scary. It’s happened several times. This is my second palisade and it happened with my previous one as well. I have zero confidence that the car will stop in an emergency situation.
When ever I hit the breaks in a small bump the vehicle vibrates "steering wheel and the brake pedal" not able to control the vehicle almost bump into the car in front of me. I when to my local dealer for it to be inspected and I show the my dashcam videos and one of the mechanics joined me in a test drive for them to diagnose what's happening the same vibration happened when I brake while passing a small bump and the mechanic saw what happened or how it happened and we went back to the dealership they diagnosed the vehicle but they dont have a solution for what have happened i was just afraid that it could happen anytime with my family in the vehicle cause there is no warning when or when it will happen and I cant just simply avoid small bumps in the road cause it's everywhere.
The car exhibited an inability to effectively brake in a very common situation (braking when traveling at low speeds on slightly bumpy ground). I was approaching the end of our driveway and started to apply the brakes as I passed over some slightly bumpy ground asphalt. The car lurched forward repeatedly as the brakes were applied, bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and taking twice as long to stop than it should have; I was a couple of feet from entering the roadway despite beginning to break with plenty of time to stop.
Brake/traction system inoperable and fails to properly engage during normal driving conditions with variations ranging from: minimally uneven, minimally wet or minimally bumpy surface. When applying the brakes in these circumstances, the vehicle shakes violently while continuing to proceed forward. This has happened when braking at all speeds and as low as under 20mph. My family has narrowly escaped injury and death on multiple seperate occasions from running off of the road, to rear ending another vehicle, to sliding up through busy traffic intersections. We feel unsafe to drive/ride in this vehicle as we feel like we are playing Russian Roulette. This issue was previously communicated to the service dept at local Hyundai dealership but they were not able to find/replicate issue. I have videos now for proof. There have been no warning lights or other messages that would identify any issue with the vehicle.
On December 19th at about 5pm, I was pulling into a gas station driving at about 10-15 MPH when my brakes locked up and the car started shaking. It felt like the anti lock braking system was activated and I did not have full braking control of the vehicle. I was driving slow enough that the vehicle did finally come to a complete stop. The gas station was flat and the road appeared in good condition, but is was dark outside and about 40 degrees F. No warnings were observed on the dash or heads up display. No one was hurt in or outside of the vehicle. We have only had the vehicle for a few months (purchased used from Carvana with only 6k miles) and only 70 hours of drive time where the issue has never been observed or reoccurred. Hyundai has not yet been notified but I will file a report with them and ask for an inspection although I’ve read in Hyuandai forums that they are aware of this issue and have no root cause or solution.
I was coming to stop speed under 15 (mph) the brake pedal and steering wheel starting shaking violently, and (the) brakes seemed to be pulsating up and down. I had to really push down hard and all the way on the brake pedal and when the car finally stopped my car was passed the stop sign and was in cross traffic luckily the car coming saw and swerved around me. My daughter would have suffered injury if that car hadn’t swerved. There were No ABS or malfunctions in the instrument panel and no audible warnings.” This has happened multiple times and Hyundai states this is inherent characteristic of this model which to me means all Palisades are defective.
I was pulling into my driveway [XXX] when I engaged the brake pedal pushing it fully down to stop behind my other vehicle. The antilock brake system seemed to turn on and the car did not stop. The steering wheel started shaking violently and the car went forward another 10-15 feet and I crashed into my other car, all while the brake pedal was completely down. We brought the car in to the dealership, Ettleson Hyundai in Countryside, IL, where they could not reproduce the event. They changed out the main governor of the ABS system anyway. This has happened to me on 6 different occasions. While driving at slow speeds, and applying the brakes, the vehicles ABS system kicks in for no reason. However, while doing this, the vehicle is not slowing down and feels as though it will not stop. The only thing that stops the vehicle is the emergency brake that kicks in when the sensor feels I am getting too close to the car in front of me. I have been close to hitting the front car on several of these instances and another time, I stopped because I turned the wheel to the curb and the sensor picked up the curb and suddenly stopped the car. I have noticed that this happens more if the road is not smooth. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for service and no change was done because they could not duplicate the problem.
Many times while my car was set to the adaptive cruise control the car wouldn't stop or break at all although the car in front of me braked and stopped completely. I had to slam on the break because the car wouldn't stop on its own.
Car lurches forward when you hit the brakes while driving over a bumpy road
Vehicle brakes began locking up when braking on bumpy areas. Took in to dealership on October 7, 2024 and left it with them all week. I went back to pick it up and they said it needed a software update and was fixed. A few days later the brakes repeated the locking up on bumpy areas again. After waiting 6 weeks for an available loaner car my vehicle is back the dealership, it’s been nearly a week again and I haven’t heard any news.
My wife and I purchased a new 2024 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy in May 2024. It has roughly 5500 miles now. For the most part, we have been very pleased with the vehicle. There is one major thing that is wrong but is not yet recognized for the 2024 model. We are experiencing an issue similar to a handful of the 2023 models, which is with the braking system. During braking over uneven or bumpy roads, we experience a violent shaking of the vehicle and steering wheel, as well as loss of braking (or just very very very degraded). It has caused us some close calls with almost rear ending vehicles due to the loss of braking when it is needed. It has only occurred at lower speeds (roughly under 30mph) with varying degrees of brake pressure. The only way to get it to stop is to fully release the brakes, and press the petal again (hoping you still aren’t over any bumpy part of the road). There are no warning lights or indications on the dash showing a failure during this time. My wife is the primary driver of the vehicle, but together we have experienced this over 15 times since owning it. I have taken it to the dealership we purchased it at and unfortunately the roads were too smooth in that part of town to replicate the issue. They ran diagnostics and test drove themselves too but still nothing. We did verify ABS works properly and it does. There is no shaking or degraded braking when the ABS activates. I plan on taking it to another part of town that is bumpier to have a different dealership ride with me so I can show them what it does, but I have not done so yet. From reading around, others have voiced concerns to Hyundai corporate already and have received responses stating that it is normal. I can assure you that this is not normal for a vehicle to do. My guess is that similarly to the 2023 Palisade, it doesn’t affect a lot of vehicles. But with the ones it does, it is just the matter of time before an accident occurs that will harm/kill someone.
When approaching a stop at low speeds, the breaks were applied but the car would not stop and was lurching forward and shaking violently. This is is the 3rd time that this happened. The incident today was on a slight incline and the road had no bumps when the car was shaking.
While driving at low speed and slightly uneven surface...approaching stop signs or intersections. The ABS system kicks in, shakes aggressively and can no longer control vehicle to come to a stop. This is a sporadic incident and has happened 3 times so far.
I live in an area that gets snow (Flagstaff, AZ), this morning 3 times the brakes locked up on me going at low speed and almost hit 2 cars because once they lock, the brakes don't let up until the car comes to a complete stop. This is a known issue with this model but Hyundai has done nothing to address it (per google). I am scared to drive the car in any weather conditions and that is what I bought it for!!
Brake or ABS failure when driving at a moderate speed between 10 to 20 mph over an uneven ground, slightly bumpy road, which makes the car shake and lurch forward while brake pedal becomes unavailable to press/hit . This has happened around 6 times within the last 10 months since the purchase, twice over a railroad crossing, and four times when passing over a sliding parking lot gate's track, dealer conducted a diagnosis but unable to replicate the issue, where they had driven the car not more than 5 miles within the limits of their parking lot. I opened a case with Hyundai Manufacturer America regarding the issue but they told me the same thing as the dealership did that they can't help me further because they couldn't replicate the issue.
Driving slowly in a parking lot, went over a speed bump and the car suddenly started to shake/rumble and the brakes did not work. Almost hit the car infront of me. Very forcibly, applied brakes again which did stop the car. Just did a Google search and others have reported same issue and one suggested to file this complaint with you as apparently Hyundai is doing nothing about it. Car has just over 3000 miles on it and we have had no other issues. We have not brought it to service as it has just happened today. No warning lights came on. This is copied from a post 5 months ago: Hyundai corporate has told me that, upon testing other Palisades, they have discovered that this happens in ALL 2024 Palisades". I do not think this is a safe "idiosycrysity" that all Palidades should have.
I have a 2024 Palisade Limited AWD with 3000 miles. When breaking at slower speeds on rough or uneven surfaces the brakes severely vibrate and the vehicle will not stop properly causing possible severe injuries or crash. This happened on multiple occasions but most recently today.
Issue: ABS Brakes Safety Issue: Almost crashed into gas station Manufacturer Contacted - Not Yet. No Warning lights or errors on dash. Incident: Unexpected ABS Activation and Reduced Braking Effectiveness Date: October 28, 2024 Time: 5:30 PM CST Location: Pelham, AL Weather: Sunny and Dry Description: On several occasions, I have experienced unexpected pulsating of the ABS brakes while driving over rough, paved roads at speeds below 15 mph. In previous instances, this occurred while approaching a red light or stop sign, and I was able to stop safely. However, today, while pulling into a parking space at a Chevron Gas Station in Pelham, AL, I encountered a similar issue. The pavement was dry, uneven, and rough. Despite traveling at only 10 mph, I was unable to stop effectively within the parking space. The vehicle did not slow down as expected, and I felt as though the rear brakes were solely responsible for bringing the vehicle to a stop at the last moment. Increasing pressure on the brake pedal had minimal effect on slowing or stopping the vehicle. I have been driving for over 37 years and am very familiar with the sensation of ABS brakes activating in emergency situations. In this instance, the road was dry, and the braking was very gradual, so there was no apparent reason for the ABS to engage. This issue has only been observed on dry, rough, paved roads. Notably, the ABS pulsation continued even after transitioning from the rough pavement to a smooth surface.
Since around the 1000-mile mark, I have been having an issue sporadically we are when I am breaking and going over either a pothole, an entrance to a driveway, railroad tracks, or in general slowing down toward a stop sign going under approximately 15 miles an hour the entire car loses control and starts shaking. The ABS system or something similar is kicking in at the wrong times and it is perilous and can cause an accident as you have no control over the braking anymore for a few seconds. The entire car shakes in the front end, including feeling it through the brake pedal as well as the steering wheel. I have brought the vehicle many times to my local Hyundai dealership and have been told there is no issue and everything is operating according to how it should when I took the head of their maintenance shop out for a ride and replicated the issue I was told that it is operating normally and despite many people having the same issue online he was told by their back and " Tech line team" to say this is operating normally. Hyundai needs to be held accountable for these dangerous cars as it is only a matter of time before someone loses their life when they cannot control their vehicles braking power during such an incident.
WHEN BRAKING ON BUMPY ROAD THE BRAKES DO NOT STOP THE CAR AND CAR BEGINS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND IT STOPS ABRUPTLY AFTER MOVING SEVERAL FEET. CAR IS AT RISK OF HITTING A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IN FRONT OF CAR. DEALER REPLACED ONE STRUT THE BELIEVED WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM PERSISTED AND DEALER SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE SO THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE 2ND STRUT. SEEMS LIKE THE SOLUTION IS REPLACING THE STRUT BUT DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE AT NO COST. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. NOT SURE IF THE STRUT IS THE SOLUTION OR IF ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM IS FAULTY.
when driving on a uneven surface the car is not broking normally i almost made a few time an accident since i was not able to brake i have a list of at least 10 people with the same car and have the some issue i gave the car to the local Hyundai mechanic shop and they agreed that there is a problem with the braking system but when they contact Hyundai they are saying that this is normal i dont feel safe to drive this car with my wife and kids
for no reason, when driving at less than 20 MPH and starting to brake, the brake system will fail to stop the vehicle. Feels like the ABS model has gone nuts modulating, but even with the brake pedal fully pressed, you can only hope the vehicle will stop prior to hitting something or being hit. It does not matter the road conditions, as my issues have always been on smooth roads. There is no indication as when this problem will happen, and no fault indicators are present. After each incident, the vehicle brake system will function normally until the next incident occurs. This has happened on multiple occassions.
When the brakes are applied while in low speeds and you are driving on rough pavement or you hit a bump in the road the car skids and won't come to a stop. It feels like the ABS has kicked in. There are a few brick roads in my town. In just one block when I stop it will skid almost completely through the stop sign. I have to brake almost halfway before I get to the stop sign. The other day I was driving in the middle of town going around 25 mph and went to stop at a stoplight. My car hit a patch of rough pavement and skidded almost into the back of the car in front of me. I have only had my Palisade for a few months and the paint is chipping terribly. I have the night edition and 2 weeks after having it there were tons of chips in the grill. I do not live on gravel nor do I travel on gravel often. This should not be happening this soon. Why is there not a protectant applied? Why is my paint chipping so soon?
I was slowing to a stop for a red light while in traffic. My foot was lightly on the brake. I felt a bump on the front right I think, like perhaps I had hit a small pothole. The pavement was dry. It was about 100 degrees. My car lurched forward. I applied firm pressure to the brake. It made no difference as far as slowing the car. The brakes seemed locked. I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me. There were no warning lights on the dash. I released the brake for a very brief moment and reapplied firm pressure. I managed to stop my car closer than I would have chosen to the car in front of me.
When applying the brakes as you approach a stop light or vehicle etc.. the vehicle will apply or go into an ABS event and lock you out of the brake pedal so you can't apply any more pressure to the pedal and will not stop the vehicle without a collision. I have had this happen several times and have had to steer into the ditch or oncoming lane to avoid an accident. This has occurred at slow speeds as well as highway speeds. This is a very dangerous situation and will cause an accident
The car fails to completely brake when going slowly over uneven pavement. The car, steering wheel and brakes shake before stopping and coming to a complete stop.
In the last two weeks my car has experienced issues with braking a total of 5 times. The issue seems to happen when there may be an uneven road, pothole, or gravel. On 3 of the 5 occurrences, I was at a 4-way intersection with a car full of children. I was going no more than 10-15 mph at most because its a residential street and had ample time to stop. Upon pressing the brakes, my car slowed down a bit but then the brakes failed and I rolled through the interesection, having to blare my horn to warn others I could not stop. This could have been a deadly event had I needed to stop at a major intersection or to avoid a collision. I will be contacting the dealership today, however I have noticed there are multiple complaints regarding this issue and many lawyers discussing building a class action lawsuit as Hyundai fails to address the issues.
Multiple times approaching a crosswalk and stop sign at my kid’s school going about 15 mph and started to apply the brakes as we went over some slightly uneven ground The car lurched forward repeatedly as the brakes were applied, bouncing forward in spurts rather while I applied the brakes with great force, the car took twice as long to stop than it should have. I went well past the crosswalk and stop sign despite beginning to brake with plenty of time to stop. This is so far from how an ABS system is supposed to work and something that is potentially dangerous.
I was driving on a bit uneven surface, a temporary bridge, at low speed ~25mph. I pressed brakes to stop but the car started shaking and didnt stop as the brakes completely froze. I could have rammed into the car in front. I quickly released the brakes and pressed again with full force in fraction of a second and it somehow worked this time. It was a very scary experience with me and my family in car. This bridge was on a river and could have had catastrophic results for me any my family. This is a very serious safety issue. I see a lot of complaints from Palisade owners facing this issue online.
The ABS starting shaking and skipping the car while braking when I wasn’t even in a situation where ABS needed to be used. It is available for inspection. When this happened it caused braking to be worse and less responsive than what would have happened with normal braking. The car is currently at the dealership being looked over. As this is unsafe when I have a baby in the car. No warning lights or anything. Which is also concerning since the ABS light should be triggered when the ABS system is in use.
When the brakes are applied on uneven road at slow speeds, the brake pulse violently but does not stop. This creates a very dangerous situation. This happened several times and when my daughter was driving the car, came within an inch of rear ending someone. I had a 2021 Palisades Calligraphy which we drove on the same roads and this was never an issue.
I bought a 24 Palisade Ltd Few month into ownership, I was approaching a stop light going 10 mph and started to apply the brakes as I passed over some slightly bumpy ground. The car lurched forward repeatedly as the brakes were applied, bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and taking twice as long to stop than it should have; I was one foot from rear-ending a biker and a car in front of me despite beginning to break with plenty of time to stop - this is so far from how an ABS system is supposed to work and something that will get you in a wreck), Hyundai dealership has told me that, they dont see a problem and fixed nothing.
While braking at a stop, and encountering a pothole (has occurred even without a pothole on straight surfaces), it feels like the is ABS kicking in to avoid wheel lockup, and apparent slowing which rapidly mimics activities that could cause hard braking. Similar to when the car is on ice/snow and the car pulses to stop. Unsafe, as the vehicle does not top when intended and forces the vehicle to take longer to stop with the potential to involuntarily enter an intersection. I have had this occur multiple times. I am fearful that I will potentially have an accident with my grandchildren in the car. Dealership is aware of multiple issues, but cannot duplicate and thus will not resolve. No warning lights, or notifications occurred. Has been discussed on 2024 Palisade Calligraphy forums. Review other reviews on reddit where other models have been affected.
After I purchased within a month I was approaching a parking spot and I applied brakes. They wouldn’t press down and the car start jumping forward. I pressed hard and the car would not stop and I hit a curb and it finally stopped. Second time: Approaching a stop sign I went over an un even are in the asphalt and the car jumped forward and I applied brakes and it jumped around and would not stop. I took to purchasing dealership and told them and showed them online issues others were having. They gave a rental for a week and called and said to come and get the car they could not duplicate the issue. I told them I was afraid and didn’t want to hit someone or a person. They said unless they could duplicate there was nothing they could do. I changed dealerships and plan to take to them for the issue. It has happened to me on a dirt road approaching the entrance to make a turn. I am making sure before I take back that I can have someone ride with me and show them. I don’t want them telling me they cannot duplicate again. It is very scary and if a pedestrian was in front of me I have no control of the car when this happens.
This happened many times, almost causing an accident once. When driving at a slow speed over a small bump in the road, and braking, the ABS system goes haywire and the vehicle fails to stop.
Whenever the car goes over bumps in the road at low speeds the ABS system activates. You can feel a “grinding” sensation emanating from the brake pedal. When it happens, if you try to engage the brakes, they don’t engage for several seconds. It happened to me recently with my kids in the car and we almost rolled into a busy intersection and could have been seriously injured.
When stopping on uneven roadway the vehicle shakes violently for a several seconds as the vehicle continues forward. There have been times the vehicle almost impacted another vehicle or traveled forward into an intersection.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? When braking at low speeds, breaks start to shake (almost as if the ABS kicked in) while going over uneven ground or a bump. Almost as though the brakes skip making it so the car won't come to a stop. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Car felt like it wasn't going to stop or took longer to stop in a situation where the ABS did not need to kick on. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, but they say all the cars do it but I see it as a problem since it prevents the car from stopping normally. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lights or messages when it happens, it just randomly happens.
When braking while going over bumps/railroad tracks/rough roads, the brakes rattle/pump as if the ABS has kicked in and the car doesn’t slow down/stop.
The brakes in this car have a major safety issue. Many others besides me have experienced this issue I have discovered through reddit and youtube. Under very specific conditions the brakes fail to work properly. At slow speeds over uneven surfaces when you hit the brakes occasionally the car will fail to stop and continue on an addition 10-16 feet before finally the brakes kick in and stop. It's a helpless feeling as you press down as hard as possible on the brakes but the car continues to move. This can be difficult to recreate because it does not happen every time, I have found this happens most often driving over train tracks slowly while applying brakes but its also happened in other instances like hit a pothole at slow speeds while applying the brakes. This has probably happened at least a dozen times since Ive had this car about 8 months. I would guess the speed it happens at is about 5-15 mph, never at high speeds thankfully. I feel nervous driving with my babies in the car, I am extra cautious knowing about this issue to attempt to stop much earlier than I normally would. This problem would most likely cause a fender bender with the car stopped ahead of me but what if there's uneven surface while Im stopping at a red light and I end up sliding out into traffic? Please please thoroughly investigate this issue before my family or another family has a tragic problem! Thank you
In north Attleboro, on a sunny dry day in the 70s. Coming to a stop sign at the bottom of a 20ish degree decline. As I approached the stop sign the brakes at around 10mph started to lock. It felt like ABS kicking in on ice. I skidded past the stop sign. There was nothing I could do to stop it. Luckily no one was in front of me, I would have hit them.
In Easton, on a sunny dry day in the 70s. Coming to a stop sign at the bottom of a 30ish degree decline. As I approached the stop sign the brakes at around 10mph started to lock. It felt like ABS kicking in on ice. I skidded past the stop sign. There was nothing I could do to stop it. Luckily no one was in front of me, I would have hit them. I have already reported one very similar incident.
While driving at low speeds, turning, and braking simultaneously causes the brakes to alternately pulse and the steering wheel to shake left and right violently. It only stops when the brake pedal is released and the car is driving straight. Difficult to replicate but has happened multiple times
A lot of the time I go to press on my brakes, my vehicle skids as if I'm sliding on ice but we are in dead of summer. It makes a crunchy noise almost and the pedal vibrates. It's a 2024 and has less than 10,000 miles and has been doing it since I got the vehicle with only 500 miles. It has skid to the point that if there is a vehicle in front of me it can cause an accident because the vehicle does not come to a complete stop. I, now try to stop way before I'm supposed to and keep a further distance because I'm afraid to crash, and I drive on the bypass daily. There are no warning lights, I mentioned it to the person who sold it and he said there were no recalls and now he no longer works for the dealership.
The brakes failed to operate properly when braking from at a slow speed and driving over a bumpy road. The entire car started shaking and the brakes took longer to respond than normal. Had someone been in front of me I would have crashed. There are currently two palisades at my dealer right now with the same complaint / issue. The car is currently with the dealer but they have stated that they do not know how to fix the issue. There were no warning indicators of any kind. The car shook violently and the brakes didn’t respond.
abs fails when going over bumps at speeds of 15mph or under and I've had it repaired 2x in the 3 months I've owned it
While approaching an intersection to make a right-hand turn at approximately 5 mph, I lightly applied the brakes. The entire car shook, and instead of slowing down, it continued to lurch forward. The road conditions were dry but slightly bumpy. The car exhibits the same behavior on uneven surfaces, such as in an alley with a slightly uneven road. The ABS system engages unnecessarily, increasing the stopping distance. On several occasions, this issue has nearly caused a collision with the vehicle in front due to the car’s inability to slow down properly and its tendency to lurch forward into intersections.
When braking on an uneven surface, the anti-lock braking system will sometimes kick in, causing the car to shake and not deliver the stopping power the driver expects. I've nearly rear ended multiple people and have glided out into intersections before. Typically happens when leaving parking lots, coming to 4 way stops, or pulling into driveways. I've also had the emergency braking system kick in on a few occasions while this happened. You lose all ability to maneuver the vehicle when this happens. I've had the dealership look at this multiple times only to tell me that it's my driving habits causing the ABS to initiate. A simple search online shows that lots of 2024 Palisade owners are reporting similar issues. I do not believe Hyundai understands how to fix this issue yet.
Antilock braking system has issues. On two separate occasions when stopping at an intersection with significant potholes the car shook and wouldn't come to a stop no matter how hard the brake was depressed. It would not come to a stop and had to take foot off the brake and press down hard again for it to respond.
Shaking and not braking at slow speeds going on bumpy roads. It happened a several times to me, once almost entered the crossing, this is not normal.
Experience weird braking on bumps, potholes, sand, etc. Car won't stop normally when this problem activates. Very unsafe. Brake pedal starts "vibrating" when this is happening. It wont brake normally. There is no warning lights. No issues other than this.
While driving at slow speeds over bumps or potholes the vehicle shakes and doesn't stop. I have to remove my foot from the brake and smash the pedal to the floor. It happens at least once a week. The dealership hasn't seen it yet. I drive with my two kids in the car 90% of the time so it is a major concern.
We were driving down a rough road about 15-20mph coming to a stop sign when I started breaking the ABS breaks engaged and I could not stop the vehicle in time and almost got hit by oncoming traffic. After that event the car breaking system worked properly. I did not notice any warning lights on dash board. I have called the dealer waiting on a response.
Yesterday at roughly 6:25 PM while while coming to a stop traveling about 7-10 mph the braking system failed to stop the vehicle. The ABS system went off violently and the steering wheel and entire vehicle shook violently. It was as if the braking system completely stopped responding mid stop. The vehicle was within 3 feet of hitting another vehicle. Well, this vehicle has exhibited these symptoms before it is usually only a shuttering, and the vehicle comes to a stop nearly normally. However, this time it did not Stop and continued forward. This has been inspected by the dealership once before with nothing found.
In two instances overbthe last week, my wife has experienced her antilock brake system (ABS) initiating on dry, flat, asphalt pavement. The ABS deployment was obviously unexpected and caused the vehicle to shake abruptly and kept the vehicle from coming to a stop as quickly ad it should have. There seems to be an issue with the ABS system and is causing dangerous situations on the roadway.
Seems the ABS system kicks in when it really should not. Just driving slowly and hitting a pothole and or going over a speed bump or something similar while braking will cause the ABS system to kick on and make the vehicle go further before actually stopping. This happened multiple times and two times I almost hit someone due to the ABS coming on and not stopping my vehicle in time. The vehicle will shake a bit and make a loud noise when this happened. The vehicle has been inspected and was told it is working as intended. Which I find hard to believe. Our Subaru does not do this. No warning lights are on. It is just a very unsafe thing to happen.
When driving the car began to shake severely and lost all braking ability. The only reason we stopped was the Anton front end collision slammed us to a stop. My mom and children were in the car at the time, if there was no car infront of us we would not have stopped and would have ended up in an intersection and could have been tboned or if we going faster anti front end collision would not have been able to stop us and would could have been injured or worse ! The car has been brought in twice to two seperate Hyundai dealerships for diagnosis, they were unable to diagnosis anything.
While driving and approaching a stop, the vehicle would not stop when gradually pressing on the brake. The only way to stop the vehicle was to SLAM on the brake. When I would brake entering a parking lot, the vehicle would continue and would not slow down as I applied pressure on the brake until I slammed the brake.
While braking at lower speed over non smooth road, my brakes jam up and I can not brake. My car drifted right into an intersection and grateful no cars were coming. Has happened multiple times.
ABS activating for no reason while braking in perfect driving conditions and not allowing the vehicle to come to a stop as needed. The first incident caused me to slide through a stop sign narrowly avoiding other traffic, and the second incident almost caused me to rear end the vehicle in front on me. This is apparently a known issue with Hyundai and needs to be addressed ASAP!
Hyundai Service for Malfunction 8-10-24 Took New 2024 Palisade to Hallmark Hyundai Service Dept. for issue with handling On 4 different occasions while driving out of a parking garage at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville TN, going approximately 5 MPH or so, the front wheels started moving back and forth very violently. Steering wheel shaking with violent wheel movement. I held the steering wheel Firmly and slammed the brakes. Shaking stopped. This happened on 3 different occasions. The forth occasion happened while pulling into a parking area at Centennial Park, Nashville TN. I hit a small pot hole and the same activity occurred while driving 10-15MPH. I held the steering wheel Firmly and Firmly applied the brakes to make it stop the shaking. Reported the incident to Hallmark Hyundai on 8-7-24. Nicole set me an appointment for 8-10-24 at 8am for immediate inspection and to make sure everything was still “tight”. After meeting with the technician, her immediate comment was that this is called a “Death Wobble”. They ran a full diagnostic and found no codes. They want me to bring the vehicle back and keep it and perform tests and more inspection for this may be the first report of such dangerous activity. They think it could be the driving assist system, abs, suspension issues, etc.??? The technician stated that the “Death Wobble” happened to her once while traveling at a speed of 60MPH. I asked if this could happen at any traveling speed, the answer was YES!!!!
I was leaving my neighborhood approaching a stop sign going 15-20 mph and started to apply the brakes. It was a little bumpy and maybe very light gravel. (Clear weather, dry road) The car suddenly and unusually applied the brakes repeatedly (I felt it through the pedal). It actually took the car longer to stop than normally it would have (I drive this route every day). It defintely was unusual, caught me off guard, and could have been worse as I ultimately stopped much closer than normal to a 45 mile an hour 2 lane road. My husband was with me in the car, and he mentioned he recalled a similar experience several months ago.
Dealership made several repairs at no cost to me that minimized the issue but issue still present. Car is leased. There were NO weights on rear tires, weights had to be installed. Brakes feel as if being pushed upward when driving over rough road surface. Gas pedal vibrating when driving over rough surface. And feels as if bottom of vehicle or something under is dragging. Please help - I have 3 children one of whom is in wheelchair. Safety is a priority. Thank you.
When driving over slightly uneven terrain the brakes malfunction and don't work. I start feeling a vibrating and rattling and the car just doesn't stop when braking. There are many reports of this issue online. Yesterday I was involved in an accident because of this and that I god I didn't hit a person only a car and no one was seriously injured
When braking lightly between 10-20MPH, the ABS will activate if I hit a small bump or pothole. Something as simple as pulling into my driveway will cause the ABS to activate. On one occasion, I was driving through a gas station parking lot, lightly pressed on the brakes to slow down over a rough patch of concrete and the ABS came on. The car behaved as though I was braking on ice. This is incredibly dangerous and Hyundai has been unable to diagnose the issue and unwilling to present any viable options.
I was approaching a stop sign at low speed. Road was a bit gravely and when I tried breaking the abs kicked in and wouldn’t allow me to break. A car was going and last second finally car stopped. It was so scary! Many times this keeps happening as I’m breaking if road has a slight bump or rocks the breaking system kicks in and takes over not allowing me to break. You hear the noise of the ABS taking over when it shouldn’t. I took car to hyundai service and they said they couldn’t “ replicate” the problem. I don’t know how they couldn’t because iI happens all the time!
I was going fairly slow, about 25. Approached a stop sign and my vehicle began shaking uncontrollably and I could not stop. Ended up going through the stop sign and it stopped abruptly. This could have been a deadly scenario. This is not the first time it has happened but not to this extend. Also the rear collision warning does not always work! I backed into a dumpster at work and now have thousands of dollars to repair my back hatch. I feel UNSAFE in this vehicle and driving my three year old son around in it!
When going approximately 15mph on a brick road when approaching a stop sign I began breaking and the breaks malfunctioned. The breaks began almost pulsating like the ABS was kicking on. I was unable to stop my vehicle and had to turn onto the upcoming road. Luckily no other vehicles were present or this would have caused an accident.
Three times in the last month, the vehicle has failed to stop within a normal distance when brakes are applied. All 3 of these occurred when slowing the vehicle with the brakes at slow speeds on rough surfaces. The front of the car bounces, the brake pedal vibrates rapidly and the brakes release. Even though brake pedal pressure is applied at a normal door pressure, the car doesn’t slow down and will continue forward potentially entering an intersection or hitting the car in front of it. When brake pressure is increased pressing extremely hard on the pedal, the car stops very abruptly.
ABS activates when pressing brakes and hit any type or bump. Extreme shaking and shuddering of the whole vehicle and steering wheel until vehicle stops. This has happened more than 5 times since purchase in April
The vehicle fails to break when going over potholes, bumps in the road, uneven pavement nearly rear ending other vehicles, it's extremely dangerous for a family hauler vehicle!
The car will continue driving forward when pressing the break pedal when you try to stop on uneven pavement, potholes, broken roads etc, I nearly rear ended a car with my entire family in the car including my kids also a 2 year old, since the car refused to simply stopped and I was going between 10-15mph, ABS is very sensitive and it kicks in when it shouldn't making it extremely dangerous for a family hauler vehicle, this has to be investigated as there are 1000's of reports with the same issue and Hyundai refuses to fix this issue, issue a recall ASAP!!!
I have a 2024 Hyundai Pallisade and have had the brakes not work properly three separate times. After one time I had my husband drive when I needed to drive the kids because it scared me so much. After two weeks I started driving it again full time and the brakes locked up again and I slid and couldn't stop. I had Hatchett Hyundai take the car for weeks and it never happened for them they said. I got it back for a couple days and while driving on a non bumpy and non rocky road after exiting the highway I almost got in a catastrophic wreck because the brakes locked up and I almost slammed into the car in front of me. I had to veer into another lane to the right as the whole car was shaking and would not brake. I immediately called Hatchett Hyundai and said I was not comfortable driving the car and would never get in it again because of what happened. They have said they've never heard of this and cannot do anything without getting it to happen again. I have found multiple things online about people having the exact same issue. It is horrible and scary that they are avoiding the issue and putting lives at risk.
Braking system. While driving at low speed (15mph and under) the brakes malfunction, the car shakes, and it takes about twice as long to stop. It may be an issue with the ABS system, but I’m unsure. Roads were clear and not uneven. Thankful there were no cars or pedestrians in front of me.
The brakes stop working intermittently. The dealership started it's a known issue but there hasn't been a recall and the is buying they can do. There is no warning when this happens, they just stop working. My wife actually went through an intersection- luckily the were no cars in the intersection.
The anti-lock brake system engaged on a dry road while trying to stop at a light. The braking distance increased dramatically with very little control of the vehicle and almost caused an accident rear-ending the car ahead of me with kids in car.
I was approaching an intersection and it was a red light. There were rumble divets on the road to notify drivers to slow down. When attempting to break at 20mph, the brakes appeared to lock up and I couldn’t slow down despite applying constant pressure to the brakes. I nearly hit the car in front of me and it was very dangerous. I’ve never felt that before in a car and feel Hyundai needs to address the ABS system.
Car doesn't brake as expected over uneven surfaces (pot holes, speed bumps, divots) at low speeds (under 10 miles per hour). Instead of the car braking the ABS system kicks in causing a rumble and the car to continue to travel forward at it's current speed. This in turn causes the driver to engage the brake completely to get the car to stop before rear ending a vehicle in front or proceeding past stop signs, red lights, and entering cross traffic.
I had this issue many times over the last couple of months. Every time the vehicle passes a pot hole or significant bump the brakes lock and I can't brake. No matter how hard I hit on it. This has caused many dangerous where I was unable to brake and almost hit another vehicle. It seems like the anti locking mechanisms or anti skid mechanism kick in and lock the brakes. I can hear a vibrating sound from beneath the car.
Low speeds going over any uneven surface even slightly uneven causes the abs brakes to kick in and the car car shakes and unable to stop the car. Had happened multiple times this time I almost crashed into the car in front of me going 6mph because my brakes didnt let me stop and the road was fine just a a couple breaks in the pavement
At a low speed coming to a stop sign on an uneven paved road the steering wheel shook and the brake pedal pulsed. I was unable to stop the vehicle in a timely manner. The outside conditions were normal and the pavement was dry. Luckily there was not a vehicle or pedestrian in front of me or I likely would have ran into them. It scared me and my daughter that was in the car with me.
While braking, hitting a bump causes the ABS to engage and disengage repeatedly causing a violent shaking in the brake pedal and steering wheel. The brake pedal goes soft and the issue was only stopped by pushing the brake pedal to the floor with extra force.
I just had my 5th occurrence with my new 2024 Hyundai Palisade where while braking at a slow speed, my abs kicked in and wouldn’t stop my car despite pushing the brake to the floor. Finally it abruptly stopped. In all situations, the road surfaces seemed to be slightly uneven or slightly bumpy. Each time this happened, I was traveling very slow and no faster than 10 mph. I’ve had my car for 2+ months and now has happened 5 times. This past time, I missed rear ending a vehicle in front of me because abs was aggressively pulsating but not stopping until almost hitting the vehicle in front of me.
When driving at low speeds over bumpy roads or obstacles like train tracks, seems like the ABS activates and the brake pedal turns very hard to press and the car wouldn't brake unless pushed very hard as the car keeps moving forward, not stopping. It's happened at least 4 times in 2 months. Braking capacity diminishes by 90% in those few seconds and if you don't know how to act and press the brake as hard as you can, the car won't stop.
The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while his wife was pulling out of a parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle independently accelerated forward and then came to a complete stop seconds later. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 700.
Mileage: 700
Slowing vehicle to prepare for a stop at Traffic Light I experienced a lurching forward after I applied the brakes for full stop.
Two times my car has lost its ability to break, and when I try to break it feels like the break pedal was very hard to push down. The car was very lurchy but finally came to a stop when the breaks finally engaged. The feeling is like when you press on the breaks when you are sliding on ice. This leads me to wonder if it has something to do with the ABS system. The first time this happened I was pulling into a parking lot only going less than 10 mph. The 2nd time I was pulling out of a parking lot (again probably going 5-7 mph) onto a busy road and they failed to work. I almost ran into oncoming traffic and was very scared. I do not feel safe driving the car and had it towed back to the dealer. It is currently in the shop there.
At slower speeds, while braking or coming to a stop, if a bump or uneven surface in the road is encountered the car will violently shake. The steering wheel will shake left and right and braking action is lost. This can lead to dangerous situations at intersections or amongst other traffic as stopping distance will drastically increase unexpectedly. Based on previous reports this is likely caused by the ABS engaging at inappropriate times or performing in an inappropriate manner.
Car begins to shake if brake is applied when diving over uneven terrain. Acts like ABS is applied but car does not slow as it should. No lights or indicators flash when this occurs. Fortunately was able to stop before rolling into intersection as I was already traveling at slow speed. Dealer has not been consulted on this problem but Reddit indicates dealer cannot/will not fix it.
Traveling in a slow lane of traffic. Brakes malfunctioned when I began to brake over broken/ not smooth road. Car began to shake hard and loud. Brakes locked but car was still rolling. I was unable to control the vehicle almost rear ending the car in front of us. I didn’t know what to do or how to stop us before we crashed. That’s When the car actually stopped everything went quiet and it seemed as if I got into an accident with myself. Because the car jerk hard and stopped abruptly. Called the dealership. To service the car. Told them what happened. Dealership said they cannot do anything about it. Told to express my complaint to NHTSA.
When driving at a slow speed on dry uneven pavement, such as repaired asphalt around potholes, and the breaks are applied, the abs system kicks on and launches the car forward, sometimes in a series of occurances, before the car will stop. We brought the car to the dealership service department. They found no error codes and could not duplicate the problem, although it has happened at least four separate times when we ourselves have driven the car. The last time it happened (which is the date listed in this report), we ended up in a crosswalk before the car came to a complete stop. We have also found comments online from others with the same issue in Hyundai Palisades.
One month into ownership of my 2024 Palisade Limited AWD, I was approaching a stop light going ~20 mph and started to apply the brakes as I passed over some slightly bumpy ground. The car lurched forward repeatedly as the brakes were applied, bouncing forward in spurts rather than stopping and taking twice as long to stop than it should have; I was one foot from rear-ending the car in front of me despite beginning to break with plenty of time to stop - this is so far from how an ABS system is supposed to work and I've never experienced it in another car. Hyundai corporate has told me that, upon testing other Palisades, they have discovered that this happens in ALL 2024 Palisades. This is troubling for several reasons: 1) The car exhibited an inability to effectively brake in a very common situation (braking when traveling at low speeds on slightly bumpy ground). Several people have noted this experience in Reddit posts; 2) I have been driving for 25 years; I’ve driven other cars with antilock brake systems and have never been in a wreck. This is unlike any experience I’ve ever had in a car and it’s very abnormal / incredibly dangerous; 3) When asked to recreate the issue at the dealership, the head mechanic rode with me and said, “The car shouldn’t do that,” when it occurred with him the car. It was clear that he found it to be very concerning behavior. Hyundai kept the car in the shop for 2 days shy of a month. At the beginning of the month, they apparently did not know that the 2024 Palisade behaved this way. Over the course of the month, they learned that this is how a Palisade behaves when driven over uneven ground at moderate to low speeds because they tried it with other cars they had on hand. This vehicle is prone to rear-end cars in front of it when stopping and also to bouncing out in the middle of an intersection when approaching a stoplight /stop sign. It will kill people of unaddressed. There are no messages / warning lights on in the car.
Hitting any bump/railroad track at even very slow speeds causes the breaks to not engage fully which has almost caused a crash on three different occasions. After researching this issue, it seems there was a similar issue that occurred with the 2023 Palisade.
I was driving in a shopping center parking lot and approaching a stop sign. As I was breaking and approaching the sign, I had to drive over a series of small potholes. As I went over the potholes, it seems the cars ABS system was engaged, and the car began to shake very dramatically, creating a more dangerous situation than needed to be. It seems others have had this problem as well, as I found online forums describing similar experiences driving over small rocks and bumps. It makes it harder to stop the vehicle before getting in the middle of oncoming traffic. There were no warning lamps or beeps to tell me ABS was engaged--it just started happening and only stopped when I pumped the breaks. I have not brought this up to the dealer yet and this issue has not been inspected yet, but I will be following up with the dealer as this is a brand new car. This is a link to a forum where others have experiences similar issues: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Driving down cobblestone street approximately 15mph came to a stop sign and when pressing the brakes the abs kicked in nd the whole front end was shaking. I have never in 35yrs of driving have had this happen on a cobblestone street.
When I hit any kind of bump in the road while braking my brakes go soft and malfunction. It happens daily. Every time I brake and come in contact with any rough surface.
