The battery warning light illuminated. The alternator was not holding power. I was on the freeway and the vehicle lost total power. After seeing a certified mechanic I was made aware of a oil leak from the valve gasket that was leaking on to the alternator wires and caused it to loose power. There is a recall for the same vehicle with the exact same issues, however my vehicle is not on the list of vehicles affected by this recall.

Transmission will not shift out of 1st. Gear .50000 miles this is second time in less than 2 months. Dealer replaced cable in top of transmission worked for 600 miles.

Whenever i hit a bump on the side of the road, the truck jerks really badly and if im not grasping the steering wheel with all my strength, it will jerk me off the highway from the bump making the entire car go off the road. Also, each bump i hit, i hear a very very loud metal on metal knocking sound from the right passenger side of the tire area. Not sure if it is a strut assembly or engine mount that wasn't correctly bolted down during manufacturing. Also, when i press the gas pedal, it sounds as if theres some type of cable thats being stripped or something. And whenever i am holding the steering wheel straight and firmly, the truck automatically has a mind of its on at times and will jerk the car to the right or to the left while im holding the wheel still. All mechanics have said that they don't see anything wrong with it but there's obviously something wrong with it and I am scared to drive it. It has got to be a manufacturers defect on those components of the vehicle. Please remedy this or replace my vehicle with one of the same or lesser valued cars . This truck is going to end up killing me or someone else or both ... Thanks

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the knock sensor needed to be replaced. The knock sensor was replaced; however, the failure persisted and had gotten worse. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer who determined that the failure had caused the transmission to fail, and the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact was unable to have the vehicle repaired free of charge due to the warranty mileage being exceeded. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The appropriate failure mileage was 11,000.

There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the transmission was replaced. Recently, the contact stated that the failure had recurred, and the check engine warning light briefly appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was diagnosed and showed low pressure in the transmission sensor. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the mechanic could not diagnose the failure. The dealer drained the transmission fluid and discovered metal shavings inside the transmission fluid. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer also stated that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

WHEN SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A LOUD BANGING NOISE LOSING POWER FOR A MOMENT AND THEN VIOLENTLY SNAPPING BACK INTO GEAR. IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE SOMEBODY IS HITTING YOU FROM BEHIND. SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE THE ACCELATION/DECELERATION IS TIGHTENING UP RIGHT BEFORE IT HAPPENS. FEELS VERY SCARY SOMETIMES AND I'M WORRIED TO DESTROY THE TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT WITH 153K MILES ON IT AND IT HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. ACCORDING TO DEALER ITS A SMALL EMISSION LEAK.

WHEN TRAVELING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND UPON ACCELERATION THERE'S LOSS OF POWER FOR A SPLIT SECOND, AND THEN IT'S BUMPING REAL HARD. IT CAN BE DESCRIBED AS A BUMPING NOISE, CLUNKING NOISE OR THUMPING NOISE. MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN BETWEEN 50-70 MPH. ALSO, THE PASSENGER BACK DOOR LOCK HAS BEEN WORKING OFF AND ON. IT FINALLY HAS STOPPED OPENING THE DOOR ENTIRELY. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE YET TO DIAGNOSE AN ISSUE AFTER TWO INSPECTIONS. AS OF 7/21/20 THE VEHICLE IS STILL HAVING THESE ISSUES.

IN NOV 2012 AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE USED WITH 38,000 MILES, WE NOTICE THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SHORTLINE HYUNDAI IN AURORA, CO. TO HAVE THEM INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND TEST DRIVE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE DURING THEIR INSPECTION, NO CODES. WE STILL NOTICED THE ISSUE FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS. FAST FORWARD TO NOV. 2014 - WE DECIDED TO TRY ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN CENTENNIAL, CO. ARAPAHOE HYUNDAI. THE VEHICLE HAD 52,000 AT THIS POINT. THEY CONFIRMED THE TRANSMISSION HAD A HARSH ENGAGEMENT IN HIGHER GEARS, STILL NO CODES. THEY STATED THE FLUID WAS LOW AND TOPPED OFF THE FLUID. THROUGH THE FOLLOWING YEARS THE ISSUE WAS STILL PRESENT. FEB 2018 THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRES AND THE ISSUE AT THIS POINT IS VERY NOTICEABLE. 5TH GEAR WOULD HESITATE UP SIFTING TO 6TH GEAR, ALONG WITH A DELAYED REACTION ON A DOWNSHIFT FROM 5TH TO 4TH. ONCE THE DOWNSHIFT ENGAGED THERE WAS A HARD BAND INTO 4TH.JUNE 2018, 79,850 MILES - FEELING BRUSHED OFF BY THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERS, WE DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS IN NEED OF CHANGE, SO WE CHANGED THE FLUID. THE FLUID CHANGE EASED THE HARSH SHIFTING SLIGHTLY. AS OF TODAY FEB. 2020, 91,150 MILES - THE TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REPLACED AT OUR EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE DRIVE FINE UNTIL IT HITS 5TH GEAR. THE DOWNSHIFT IS NOW VERY HESITANT WITH AN EXTREME BANG ONCE IT ENGAGES 4TH. THERE HAS BEEN AN KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS A SAFETY CONCERN. HYUNDAI HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, OTHER THAN PUTTING A BAND-AID ON THE ISSUE.

THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND THEN VIOLENTLY KICKS INTO FIRST GEAR WHEN STARTING OUT. IT WILL ALSO SLIP WHILE DRIVING ALONG AND THEN KICK BACK INTO GEAR WITH A BANG SOUND. THESE SLIPS SEEM TO OCCUR WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD( JUST STARTED AND TEMPERATURE GAGE READS AT OR NEAR C). I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES OVER THE YEARS AND THEY TELL ME THEY FIND NOTHING WRONG. THE PROBLEM RECURS AT LEAST WEEKLY.

DEALER REFLASHED (UPGRADED?) THE COMPUTER DURING AN UNRELATED DOOR LOCK REPAIR. AFTERWARDS, THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES AT LOW SPEED/COASTING, THEN REENGAGES VIOLENTLY. WHEN REQUESTED TO RESTORE THE COMPUTER TO THE ORIGINAL FACTORY PROGRAM, THE DEALER SAID IT CANNOT BE DONE. THERE HAVE BEEN SUBSEQUENT REFLASHES INSTALLED TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION, BUT TO NO AVAIL. DEALER SAYS "THE COMPUTER JUST HAS TO LEARN MY DRIVING HABITS". IT'S A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN YOU'RE NOT AWARE OF THE DISENGAGEMENT, THE ENGINE RPM INCREASES, THEN A SUDDEN ENGAGEMENT OCCURS.

DEALERSHIP DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND TOLD US WE NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND CD AXLE. AFTER RESEARCH THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL'S TRANSMISSION. OURS WAS BUILT 3 MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL BUT IS DOING THE SAME THING. SAFETY ISSUE AND A QUALITY HYUNDAI SHOULD STAND BEHIND AND REPAIR. WE HAVE THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT FROM THE DEALERSHIP.

ACCORDING TO DEALER, IT CAN NOT BE RE-BUILT DUE TO DESIGN AND MUST BE REPLACED. CAR HAS BEEN VERY WELL-CARED FOR AND DRIVEN LESS THAN 10,000/MI/YR FOR THE LAST 8+ YEARS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME 2010 SANTA FE TRANSMISSIONS BUT DEALER SAYS OURS WAS NOT IMPACTED. WE FEEL THAT A TRANSMISSION THAT FAILS AFTER 107K GENTLE MILES MUST HAVE A DESIGN FLAW.

I HAVE A 2010 HYUNDAI SANTE FE UTIL. I BELIEVE I AM HAVING AN ISSUE WITH MY "ALL WHEEL DRIVE COUPLER". MY WIFE USES THIS VEHICLE. CURRENTLY WE ARE EXPERIENCING LOUD BANGS THAT FEEL LIKE WE ARE BEING HIT FROM BEHIND WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING. IT IS IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE HESITATES AND HAS NO FORWARD MOTION FOR PERHAPS 2-3 SECONDS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING AFTER SLOWING DOWN AND THEN ACCELARATING, THEN BACKING OFF AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES OVER THE YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE. THE RISK IS THAT YOU CAN NOT MOVE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. CITY DRIVING, ON AND OFF THE THROTTLE MOST OF THE TIME DURING A SLOW SPEED LEFT TURN. TRANSMISSION APPEARS TO GO INTO NATURAL BECAUSE IT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR TO GO INTO, SUSPECT IT IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE/ DRIVING STYLE AS WIFE DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM . LOCAL DEALER WAS PROVIDED INFORMATION ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ISSUE STILL EXISTS. COMMENTS ON INVOICES: 100371 / 101673 / HYCS414425

MY 2010 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED AWD 3.5L, WITH APPROX. 60,000 MILES, WAS MAKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END WHEN I WENT OVER BUMPS OR ROUGH TERRAIN. A LOCAL DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS MOST LIKELY THE END LINKS GOING FROM THE STRUTS TO THE STABILIZING BAR. TWO SHOCKS WERE LEAKING SO I HAD THE STRUTS (FRONT) AND SHOCKS (REAR) REPLACED ALONG WITH THE END LINKS. ON A TEST DRIVE IT WAS STILL MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE SO I RESEARCH THE HYUNDAI FORUMS FOR POSSIBLE CAUSES. THERE WERE FOUR POSSIBLE CAUSES, ONE WHICH HAD BEEN CORRECTED, THE END LINKS, THE LOWER CONTROL ROD, THE CONNECTION MOUNTS BETWEEN THE FRAME AND THE BODY, AND THE FRONT AND REAR ENGINE MOUNTS. UPON INSPECTING THE ENGINE MOUNTS I FOUND THE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTS BOLT, A 12MM X 5 INCH BOLT, MISSING. APPARENTLY WHEN THE CAR WAS ENGINEERED THE BOLT WASN'T SECURED WITH A LOCKING NUT OR COTTER PIN SO WHEN THE NUT LOOSENED AND VIBRATED OFF THE BOLT, THE BOLT ALSO VIBRATED OUT OF THE MOUNT. I ACTUALLY REMEMBER WHEN THIS OCCURRED, AT AROUND 50,000 MILES. I REMEMBER A LOUD BANG UNDER THE CAR AND IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR I SAW A BOLT TUMBLING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I THOUGHT I HAD RUN OVER IT WITH A WHEEL. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE HYUNDAI DEALER AT 56,652 MILES FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND "12-POINT INSPECTION" AND "MULTI-POINT INSPECTION" AND THE MECHANIC DIDN'T DISCOVER THE MISSING FRONT ENGINE MOUNT BOLT. (I FOUND IT MYSELF WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL CAR SHOP FOR THE STRUT AND SHOCK REPLACEMENT.) I THEN WENT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT I DISCOVERED. THE PART NUMBER FOR THE BOLT IS 21920-2B000, AND THE PART NUMBER FOR THE NUT IS 13396-12007K. THERE WAS NO DESCRIPTION AS TO THE SIZE OF THE BOLT, THE THREAD OF THE BOLT AND NUT, NOR WHETHER THE NUT WAS A LOCKING NUT. I HAD THE LOCAL MECHANIC MAKE THE REPAIR WITH A 12MM X 5" GALVANIZED BOLT WITH WASHERS, LOCK WASHER AND A 12MM NYLON LOCKING NUT. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE.

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

WE THOUGHT IT COULD BE THE AREA WE WERE DRIVING IN, SO WE CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT TO SEE IF THAT WAS IT. IT WAS NOT. HARD SHIFTING HAS CONTINUED FOR THE COMPLETE EXTENT OF OUR OWNERSHIP COMMENCING AT THE START. ON 12/7/2010, TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BE CHECKED, CAUSE: FOUND TRANSMISSION JERKING. MODULE ASSY-AUTO TRANS CONTROL RE, RESET ADAPTIVE TRANS VALUES. RECALL, P0111, ECM UPDATE, PERFORMED CAMP TC7. BRING BACK IF CONTINUES AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS. IT DID CONTINUE, BUT I AM A BUSY PERSON. ON 4/21/2011, RETURNED AGAIN STATING THAT VEHICLE WAS CONTINUING TO SHIFT HARD, JERKING. DEALER SVC STATES COULD NOT DUPLICATE. VEHICLE DUPLICATED FOR ME ON WAY HOME FROM SVC APPT. ON 6/10/11, RETURNED AGAIN FOR SAME PROBLEM WITH HARD SHIFTING AT LOW SPEEDS, JERKING. CAUSE: TCM UPGRADE, RE-RESET ADAPTIVE TRANS VALUES, AFTER WHICH SVC DEPT SAID COULD NOT DUPLICATE AGAIN. SVC MGR STATES THAT A NEW REFLASH HAD BEEN ISSUED SINCE THEY UPGRADED IT LAST ON 12/7/2010. THRU RESEARCH I FIND NO NEW UPGRADE HAS BEEN RELEASED ON SVC MESSAGES/NOTIFICATIONS. I BELIEVE I'VE BEEN MISLEAD. I AM POSITIVE THAT THE VEHICLE WILL DO THIS AGAIN. ALSO, INTERMITTENTLY WHEN ONLY CRANKING THE VEHICLE AND BEFORE THE VEHICLE IS PUT IN GEAR IT WILL IMMEDIATELY HAVE A FEELING OF A LARGE "BANG OR SLAM" AND THEN LUNGE FORWARD EVEN THOUGH STILL IN PARK. MY 2010 HYUNDAI SANTE FE GLS TRANSMISSION PERIODICALLY SLIPS AND THEN CLUNKS INTO THE NEXT HIGHEST GEAR WITH A FORCE THAT SHAKES THE CAR. THIS FORCE TRANSLATES INTO A BANGING SOUND. EACH INCIDENT HAPPENED AT SPEEDS OF 20-25 MPH AND SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR SINCE I DON'T KNOW WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WILL FINALLY FAIL COMPLETELY. I BELIEVE THE CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD.

ON SATURDAY, JAN. 15TH, I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 HYUNDAI SANTA FE V6 (4 1/2 MONTHS OLD, < 2000 MILES) WHEN I TURNED A CORNER ONTO A BUSY STREET, AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AS IF SOMEONE HAD TURNED OF THE IGNITION. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN WE LOST POWER STEERING AND ENGINE POWER OR WHEN WE SAT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC SINCE THE CAR WOULD NOT RE-START. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS UNABLE TO SEND ANYONE FOR ALMOST 40 MINUTES, SO WE HAD TO HAVE THE POLICE PUSH US TO SAFETY. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER FOR SERVICE, THE CAR JUST STARTED UP AGAIN. WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM SINCE NO ERROR CODE WAS SEEN. THE TECHNICIANS UPDATED THE ECM TO VERSION CMAN S2 AB8F SINCE IT WAS A RECOMMENDED GENERAL SERVICE. NO ONE KNEW IF IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIANS ALSO MENTIONED THAT ANOTHER CUSTOMER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THE WEEK BEFORE. HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS WAS NOT HELPFUL, BUT DID OPEN A CASE NUMBER. PROBLEM HAS NOT RE-OCCURED YET ALTHOUGH TRANSMISSION OFTEN POPS. *LN

I HAVE A 2010 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED AND WITHIN A COUPLE WEEKS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE NOTICED TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT I WAS DOING, BUT THEN MY HUSBAND DROVE IT AND SAID THE SAME THING. BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 10-40 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR AND OCCASIONALLY BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR AS IF IT GETS STUCK. IT DOES IT WHEN UPSHIFTING AND EVEN WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. IT HAPPENS CONSTANTLY, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD, WHEN IT'S WARM, EVERY DAY. I MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND OF COURSE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THEY CAN REPLICATE THE ISSUE. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES THE TACHOMETER WILL GO BETWEEN 3000 AND 4000 RPM, AND THEN LURCH VIOLENTLY AS IT BECOMES "UNSTUCK." EVERY TIME I GO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE OR ANY OTHER WORK, I MENTION THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE LAST TIME I WAS THERE THE TECHNICIAN SAID THEY CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND WAS TOLD THAT IS NORMAL. THAT IS NOT NORMAL. I RECEIVED A QUESTIONNAIRE FROM HYUNDAI ABOUT MY SANTA FE AND AGAIN MENTIONED THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. I NEVER HEARD FROM THEM. BOUGHT OUR 2010 SANTA FE WITH 2700 MILES (THE OWNERS WIFE HAD BEEN DRIVING IT) ON NOVEMBER 11TH. THEN WAS TOLD IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION AND THEY ORDERED A REPLACEMENT. I ASKED IF IT WOULD BE NEW OR REBUILT, THEY SAID NEW. THEN I WAS TOLD IT WAS POLICY TO PUT IN REBUILT. ON A LARGE NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, THE TRANSMISSION OF MY 2010 HYUNDAI SANTAFE AWD WOULD SLIP INTO NEUTRAL AS IT WENT THROUGH THE GEARS. THAT IS WHEN THE CAR WAS STILL RELATIVELY COOL AS IN THE MORNING, IT WOULD START OFF IN FIRST, SHIFT TO SECOND AND THEN ON SOME OCCASIONS SLIP INTO NEUTRAL. WITH A LITTLE ON AND OFF ON THE ACCELERATOR IT WOULD THEN GO INTO THIRD AND THEN SHIFT NORMALLY. THE ONLY TIMES THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN WAS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION OIL WAS STILL COLD. HYUNDAI CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER PER A SERVICE BULLETIN. WHEN THE CONDITION REAPPEARED IT THEN OFFERED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN ITS ENTIRETY. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. MY CONCERN WOULD BE THAT IF IT DID HAPPEN WHEN ONE ENTERED A LINE OF TRAFFIC. THIS CERTAINLY COULD HAVE CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION. TILL THE SITUATION WAS RESOLVED, IT HAPPENED ON A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF OCCASIONS. HYUNDAI WAS RESPONSIVE TO THE PROBLEM, AND SEEMS TO HAVE TRIED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES AT THIS TIME. IT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN APRIL AND THE PROBLEM BEGAN IN JUNE. THAT AT LEAST IS WHEN WE FIRST OBSERVED IT. *TR

I WAS ACCELERATING WHILE ENTERING TRAFFIC FROM A SIDE STREET AND THE COMPUTER FOR THE TRANSMISSION PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. I LOST POWER AS THE ENGINE RPM SPIKED UP. THE TRANSMISSION WAS STILL IN DRIVE AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE AGAIN UNTIL I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN REAPPLIED IT. ASIDE FROM THIS PROBLEM BEING A VEHICLE DEFECT, THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM SINCE THE END OF JULY. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE DEFECT BUT THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE DEFECT THE SECOND TIME. UNFORTUNATELY THIS TYPE OF FAILURE DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE CARS COMPUTER. EACH TIME THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED AND THE CAR WAS DRIVEN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AS A RELEARNING EXERCISE. OBVIOUSLY THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND WITHOUT A FAILURE CODE IN THE COMPUTER TO PINPOINT THE PROBLEM THE DEALERSHIP IS UNSURE WHICH COMPUTER OR COMPONENT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. WITH THIS DEFECT THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THE RISK OF AN ACCIDENT.

AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WE WERE TOLD THAT POSSIBLY THE DRIVESHAFT SNAPPED AND THE TRANSMISSION ALSO WENT. THE MECHANIC THERE SAID THAT THIS IS THE THIRD ONE HE HAD SEEN LIKE THAT. THE NEXT DAY WE WERE TOLD THAT IN FACT THAT IS WHAT HAD HAPPENED. LUCKILY, WE HAD GOTTEN OFF WHEN WE DID, OR ELSE WE MAY HAVE BEEN IN A MAJOR CRASH ON BUSY RTE I-95 OR MAY EVEN HAD BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF NO CONTROL OF THE CAR. THIS IS 2010 CAR WITH ONLY 17,700 MILES ON IT. TODAY, WE FOUND OUT THAT HYUNDAI KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE DEALERS HAVE RECEIVED A BULLETIN ABOUT THIS. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WE WERE TOLD THAT POSSIBLY THE DRIVESHAFT SNAPPED AND THE TRANSMISSION ALSO WENT. THE MECHANIC THERE SAID THAT THIS IS THE THIRD ONE HE HAD SEEN LIKE THAT. THE NEXT DAY WE WERE TOLD THAT IN FACT THAT IS WHAT HAD HAPPENED. LUCKILY, WE HAD GOTTEN OFF WHEN WE DID, OR ELSE WE MAY HAVE BEEN IN A MAJOR CRASH ON BUSY RTE I-95 OR MAY EVEN HAD BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF NO CONTROL OF THE CAR. THIS IS 2010 CAR WITH ONLY 17,700 MILES ON IT. TODAY, WE FOUND OUT THAT HYUNDAI KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE DEALERS HAVE RECEIVED A BULLETIN ABOUT THIS. MY PROBLEM IS WITH A 2010 HYUNDAI SANTA FE, 4 CYL. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES HESITATES TO MOVE FORWARD, AND THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATES. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AS IN TRAFFIC. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY MOVE FORWARD, AND THEN IT SUDDENLY MOVES FORWARD VERY QUICKLY. IT HAS HAPPENED UNEXPECTEDLY MANY TIMES SINCE THEN. I WAS ALMOST IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT FROM THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER PUT THE CAR ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND FINDS NO PROBLEM. TODAY A FRIEND OF MINE WHO HAS A GAS STATION IN ASHEVILLE, NC HAD A CUSTOMER ASK HIM ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THE IDENTICAL VEHICLE. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR STRUCK THE CONTACT RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURIES. SHE WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM FOR TREATMENT TREATED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. A THIRD PARTY INVESTIGATOR WAS SENT BY THE MANUFACTURER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE INVESTIGATOR FOUND NO FAILURE WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY SURGE FORWARD. NOT UNTIL THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED WAS THE STATEMENT OFFERED, ONE WEEK LATER. HAVEN'T SEEN THE STATEMENT YET AS IT WILL BE ACCESSED THROUGH THE DEALER THIS WEEK. ON TUESDAY, JUNE 8, 2010 I WAS ON A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH FAST MOVING TRAFFIC AND MY CAR LOST ALL POWER WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO BARELY GLIDE THE SANTE FE TO THE SHOULDER AND STOP WITHOUT INCIDENT. FOLLOW UP: 3 PM VISITED HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT A THROTTLE PROBLEM. THEY ARE IN CONTACT WITH CA SERVICE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OF PROBLEM. FRIDAY, 6-11-10 AFTER COMPLETE TESTING OF ALL CIRCUITS, HYUNDAI DECLARES NO SOURCE OF PROBLEM. AUTO WAS PICKED UP AT 4:30 PM HYUNDAI ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER: BOB WOOD HYUNDAI CASE # 3982284 THE SPECIFICS ARE: ?SUV WAS PURCHASED 8/09 AND CURRENTLY HAS 5200 MILES. ?CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON BUT NOT ENGAGED. ?GAS TANK INDICATOR ON ONE-HALF. ?WITH MY FOOT ON GAS PEDAL THE INITIAL INSTINCT WAS THAT THE ENGINE HAD LOST ALL POWER. OPRESSING HARDER ON GAS PEDAL HAD NO REACTION. OTHERE WAS AN OPENING IN TRAFFIC AND WITH THE SUV FORWARD INERTIA I WAS ABLE TO JUST REACH THE ROAD SHOULDER. OOBSERVED THAT RED INDICATORS WERE ON (BATTERY, OIL) ?RESET TRANSMISSION SELECTOR TO PARK, TURNED OFF KEY. OFIRST RESTART-NOTHING HAPPENED OSECOND RESTART SUV STARTED AND I DID NOT TURN OFF UNTIL REACHING HOME. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A SERIOUS LIFE THREATENING SITUATION THAT NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED THOROUGHLY AND CORRECTED. *TR

I HAVE A 2010 HYUNDAI SANTA FE AWD. WE BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 8 MILES. AFTER ONE WEEK WE STARTED TO NOTICE A BANGING SOUND WHEN THE CAR WOULD SHIFT AT LOW SPEEDS, SOMETIMES IT WAS SO SEVERE THE CAR WOULD JERK FORWARD VIOLENTLY. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER TWICE AND THEY TELL US THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. TODAY MY WIFE WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK AND SLOWED DOWN TO LET SOME KIDS CROSS THE STREET, AS SHE WAS SLOWING THE CAR BANGED AND JERKED FORWARD SO VIOLENTLY SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL AND HIT ONE OF THE KIDS! I WAS JUST LOOKING ONLINE FOR OTHER COMPLAINTS AND THERE ARE A LOT, COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS, OR SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED!!! 2010 HYUNDAI SANTA FE V6 AWD LIMITED I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO START IT, AND THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES. THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK WHEN I STARTED IT. LUCKILY MY FOOT WAS NEAR THE BRAKE, SO I INSTINCTIVELY SLAMMED ON THE BRAKE. I DO NOT KNOW HOW FAR IT WOULD HAVE GONE IF I HAD NOT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. LUCKILY THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WAS FAR ENOUGH AWAY, ALSO LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NOBODY WALKING BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THE ONE IN FRONT OF MINE. I TOOK IT TO SPORT HYUNDAI DODGE, THEY WERE VERY NICE. THEY PUT IT ON THEIR COMPUTER SCANNER, AND OF COURSE IT DID NOT COME UP WITH ANY PROBLEM CODES. LUCKILY I DO NOT HAVE REMOTE START ON THIS VEHICLE, BECAUSE WHO KNOWS WHERE THE VEHICLE MIGHT END UP. I WAS ALSO LUCKY THAT I WAS ACTUALLY SEATED IN THE VEHICLE AND NOT LEANING IN TO START IT. HOPEFULLY THIS WAS A FLUKE SITUATION AND WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. HOWEVER, I WILL HAVE TO REMEMBER TO START THIS VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKE DEPRESSED IF THERE IS SOMETHING IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. TOYOTA DEPENDED ON THEIR COMPUTERS TOO, WHICH NEVER CAME UP WITH ANY ERROR CODES EITHER, AND THEY THOUGHT THE CUSTOMER WAS AT FAULT, AND LOOK WHERE IT GOT THEM! *TR
