# **NHTSA Complaint Answers** ### **1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?** The **engine** failed due to **sudden and extreme oil consumption** that resulted in the engine being completely dry of oil despite regular maintenance. This caused internal damage including **CVVT (Continuous Variable Valve Timing) system failure**, bearing damage, and a complete engine seizure. Yes, the failed engine is fully available for inspection upon request. The vehicle is currently located at Dick Smith Hyundai in Greenville, South Carolina, where the dealership diagnosed the failure and recommended a full engine long block replacement. ### **2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?** The engine failure occurred **suddenly and without warning**, causing the vehicle to lose power while operating. The loss of engine function created the risk of: * sudden deceleration in traffic, * inability to accelerate or maneuver, * potential rear-end collision, * complete engine stall in unsafe conditions. The vehicle had **no oil warning light** prior to the failure, meaning I had no indication that the engine was at risk until the failure occurred. ### **3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?** Yes. The engine failure was confirmed by: • **Schwab’s Automotive** in Fayetteville, NC – determined the engine suffered catastrophic internal damage and was not repairable. • **Dick Smith Hyundai** dealership – confirmed **high oil consumption and CVVT damage**, and recommended a full **engine long block replacement** (estimate: $8,160.60). The problem has been fully verified by both an independent mechanic and an authorized Hyundai dealership. ## **4.Yes.The vehicle was formally inspected by Hyundai Motor America through the dealership’s diagnostic report. Hyundai reviewed the case (Case #XXX) after receiving the dealership findings. The engine remains intact avai. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF IN

The car has been consuming all the engine only after 700 miles. This has been a constant issue since December 2024 and the issue has been brought up with Hyundai dealership in Denville, NJ and Hyundai Corporate as well. Hyundai dealership in Denville, NJ performed 2 oil consumption tests, which the vehicle failed both test only after 700 miles as it consumed all the engine oil. They refused to do further investigation or recall the engine as it should be covered under Hyundai TXXI warranty given the Hyundai Engine II Class Action Settlement a few years ago. The vehicle has broken down on me on the highway a few times and has put my family at risk and danger due to the negligence of the Hyundai dealership in Denville, NJ and Hyundai Corporate refuel to resolve the issue. Now the car does not start at all some days thus it has impacted my work and my ability to provide for my family

The car started jerking and the check engine light came on. I had to have it towed to my house. We can't get the car to do anything now. We get it started for 5 seconds, the engine completely dies

The act is consuming all the engine oil only after 500-700 miles. It has been recored and tested at Town Hyudnia dealership in Danville, NJ after it failed 2 engine oil composition tests but the dealership did not replace the engine nor put in a. request to Corporate Hyundai to replace the engine as it should be covered by the 2.4L engine lawsuit a fe years ago.

The vehicle started to stall/drive in limp mode. I took it to the Hyundai dealership, and they quoted me $5000 for repairs. The repair recommendations were as followed: ensure connecting rod bearings are within spec, recommending performing timing job w/replacement of intake camshaft, e-cvvt motor/gear, e-cvvt cover, and other components necessary for repairs. This engine burns/consumes oil and the engine code that shows up in P00100. All of this after I paid it off. Not within warranty anymore either. $22,000 down the drain it seems... called hyundai customer service to see if there was anything that could be done but they said there is nothing they can do and I have to fix it even though it is a manufacturing issue.

Was going down the highway at 65 when my vehicle completely lost the accelerating component. Almost got rear ended so I pulled off. Then made it to work when it happened again. The engine light came on and gave 2 codes. Finally got it towed to the dealership where they have decided it’s either a new timing chain or new engine due to mechanical loss. They discovered there was no oil in the car and they have also found metal shavings in my oil. Now they are telling me I need a whole new engine. I only have 124000 miles on this car. The car was driving perfectly fine the day before and had just been to the dealer and looked over 1,500 miles before and I was told everything was perfect working condition. I am out $4000 on a car I bought a year and a half ago in October 2023.Was told my warranty only lasted a year.

My 2017 Hyundai Santa fe sport burns through 2qts of oil between oil changes (every 3000 miles). I check my oil once a week to make sure I have adequate oil to ensure my engine doesn't blow, Hyundai has open recalls on the 2017 models of my vehicle but my VIN number is not included...I have complained to Hyundai corporate and also the dealer and they state that I have to do an oil consumption test, at cost to me, to prove that their engine is defective...I first noticed this issue about 1 month after I purchased my vehicle, I was driving and my oil light flashed on for less than a second, I stopped at my sisters house and let my engine cool down and checked my oil and there was absolutely none... I refilled it and then began checking my oil weekly. I add at least 1/4-1/2 quart per week between oil changes. Every time I take my car in for an oil change they have to add an extra quart and make me aware that my vehicle is burning a significant amount of oil... This is my everyday car, I use it to get back and forth to work, I transport my children in this vehicle. There is a 953 Recall and also 218 but my VIN is not included.

In June 2024, my vehicle suddenly lost power while I was driving on the freeway, almost causing a serious accident. I managed to restart the car after being stuck on the shoulder of the freeway for several minutes. The same issue occurred the following day, prompting me to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. Hyundai Motor was contacted since the vehicle is still under warranty. The dealership informed me they would conduct an oil consumption test three times to diagnose the issue. However, they also stated that for the test to be successful, I needed to replace unrelated parts, including the brakes and transmission oil, among other items. Reluctantly, I agreed and spent $1,800 on these replacements. After completing the first oil consumption test, I returned for the second test. However, the dealership informed me that no further tests were necessary and returned the car to me without addressing the underlying issue. I emailed the case manager assigned by Hyundai to report this, but I never received a response. A few months later, the car failed to start. I contacted Hyundai again, and they dispatched a tow truck. The tow truck driver managed to start the car. A few days later, the issue recurred, and the roadside assistance tow driver suggested it might be the battery. Out of frustration, I paid $300 to replace the battery. Despite this, the car continued to make unusual noises at startup, a problem I had repeatedly mentioned to the dealership and in my communications with Hyundai. The situation reached a critical point today when my wife was driving the vehicle on the freeway with our five children inside. While traveling at 60 miles per hour, the car suddenly lost power again, putting their lives in danger. This is the third time this hazardous issue has occurred, and I fear for the safety of my family.

I have Hyudai Santafe 2017 Sport, bought it from dealership in 2020 with 46,000 Miles and in around past 4/5 years added 30,000 miles. Which is not much, in the past one year i have noticed that engine oil is burning faster than usual. On every oil change after driving between 1200 and 1500 miles the oil engine sign blinks and upon checking needed 2 Quarts of oil. I spoke the dealership and they are not very helpfull. Also they did the oil combustion test which i was charged. Later i was advised to do. ("Good morning, Just got off the phone with you sir warranty won't cover it due to the vehicle being out of manufacture warranty and mileage. My technician recommended starting with combustion chamber cleaning which would be around 1200 before taxes and shop supplies. Combustion chamber cleaning is the process of removing carbon buildup from the combustion chamber and intake valves of a fuel-injection engine. to see if that fixes the problem that you are having with the car burning oil. If that step doesn't work we we would submit a warranty pa again, to see if they would cover a new engine." Please advise what should be my next step, as per my mechanic the only solultion right now i have is keep adding oil carefully.

While driving on rural side road, two lanes, my check engine light (yellow, steady) came on. I pulled into a safe spot and did a quick survey, checked the owner manual, but could not identify any problem, and continued on my way. The check engine light was still on. About 15 minutes later the car would not accelerate past 25 mph (limp mode?). I was on a two-lane mountain road, speed limit 45 (but most cars were faster), visibility limited by terrain, trees, etc. Again, there was little traffic around me and I found a safe place to pull over. in neutral the engine revved normally. I turned the ignition off, checked oil level, (normal), turned the engine back on and started driving to find a safe place to pull over and summon help, but the car drove normally. I drove directly to my repair shop and had the codes pulled, (0436, 0021) which indicate a problem with timing. When a qualified tech examined it he recommended taking to the dealer. Unwilling to drive in traffic, I had it towed to the dealership. Their inspection revealed damage to CVVT components and the timing chain, and recommend an (expensive) engine rebuild.

I bought this vehicle back in 2022 hearing how great Hyundai is wanting to make a long time purchase with a for my family. I’ve had different models vehicles but I wanted something reliable. Now hearing this is possibly a fire hazard I need all this taking care of immediately . I am dependent on my car to get to work, for food, and I take my kids to school an to practice and just everyday life. I will take my vehicle to the dealership immediately to attempt to get this taking care of this week an hopes this company can make it right. Thanks for your time

1)When turning there is zero response from the gas pedal. 2)If turning where there is traffic the car can come to a complete stop in an intersection. 3)There have been numerous complaints to dealers and to the NHTSA. 4)My vehicle has not been inspected yet. 5)No warnings. 6)This is a serious situation that puts the driving public in danger

Vehicle has intermittent engine stalling, but is still running. Possible dangerous situation if making left turn with oncoming traffic. This has happened to many times since my owner ship. Bought this car used. I am 2nd owner. 33k mi when purchased in 3-2021

Feb 20, 2024

Vehicle gave no indication oil level was low. Traveling I24 East, the vehicle began to stall, preventing any speed above 40MPH. After settling along the shoulder of the highway I checked the Oil reservoir which was completely empty. No indication was given that Oil was needed. Vehicle had not met the Month or Milage requirement for needed oil change.

Oil compsumption noted and leakage noted by mechanic. Informed me could cause a fire in engine compartment. Unsafe to drive. I rented a car. . Engine burning oil, high oil consumption, oil leak. Reported to Hyundai. Took vehicle to Kerry Hyundai, Alexandria, Ky. Was informed that Hyundai won’t take care of it. Filed a complaint. Mediation through The Better Business Burrau. Claim was denied. I was not driving the car for a couple weeks. I am guardian of 2 school age children transporting to and from school and activities and was concerned for our safety. Took vehicle to Superior Hyundai, Cincinnati, Ohio for an oil change and reported an oil leak. Was informed there was no oil leak. Had oil changes at Valvoline, Newport,Ky, No report of oil leak. Walmart, Ft Wright ,Ky pointed out leak from oil pan. Replaced oil pan. Check engine light came on. Took vehicle to Konen’s Pittstop , Bellevue, Ky who repaired oil leak. Continued oil check for consumption. Again check engine light illumination. Recently Replaced spark plugs & wires, catalytic converter. Engine running rough. Valves going bad. If car stalls on highway an accident could occur. Hyundai has a recall in the same year and make but not for those manufactured in the state of Alabama. The dealership inspection was about a year ago at Kerry Hyundai, Alexandria, Ky. They only recommended oil changes. I cannot afford the additional engine repairs. Hyundai has prior knowledge of the engine defect and refuses a recall thereby endangering peoples lives.

Aug 15, 2023

Upon approaching stop sign, the vehicle stalled and after restart, the vehicle ceased acceleration at intervals. This caused the vehicle to impede/slow traffic during journey. Again, at stop light, the vehicle stalled and “all” warning lights appeared. The engine failed to restart and the vehicle was towed from traffic due to engine failure. The vehicle is a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4 with 116,000 miles. An Engine Class Settlement has been established for the model years 2010-2012 with this same issue. The vehicle will be towed to a dealership for inspection, confirmation and repair. I felt the need to make an incident report thinking maybe other reports have been filed, also, and the manufacturer reusing to admit to problem issues.

The car is 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with a defective crankshaft. The car is leaking oil. I called Hyundai and they noted that although they have recall 168 the VIN for my car doesn't match a recall that is on their website. I spoke to a Hyundai case manager today who said that even though my car has the defective crankshaft they will not repair the vehicle because it beyond 100,000 and the recall is expired. I am seeking help from the NHTSA as my car should be covered under this recall. I took it to an independent shop that noted that my car should be covered. I have photo and documents to prove that my car should be covered under this recall. My VIN just doesn't match their records and they are denying my claim.

A knocking noise from the engine that increases in frequency as the engine rpm increases. Reduced power and/or hesitation and vibration. Illumination of the “check engine” light in the instrument cluster. Illumination of the “engine oil pressure” warning lamp. My car will drive up to maybe 37mph and then the engine will seize up and go into safety mode and it becomes inoperable. THIS is a death trap if we suddenly stall out on the highway or at a higher rate of speed!!!! The dealership is basically saying oh well, it is out of warranty. I just bought this car from Banister Nissan on 6/5/2023. Less than 60 days ago.

Jul 13, 2023

As I was driving my vehicle the car started to shake. I was able to make it to a gas station and then had difficulty getting the car to turn over. After several attempts the car turned over but the check engine light was flashing and the car had fumes coming out the back. I towed the car to the dealership I bought it at they determined that the fuel injectors failed and caused the engine to be flooded with gas requiring an entirely new engine to be put in the car.

***(NW Indiana)*** 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Ultimate FWD 3.3L - 64,000mi. Driven to and from work and around town. Purchased used with 31,000mi in July 2020 from Knauz Hyundai. On the afternoon of December 22nd, 2022 I went to accelerate from 35 mph at which point I heard "tick-tick-tick-tick-tick". I had never heard that sound before. I tried the accelerator again and the same "ticking" sound was there. It became progressively louder on the 15 minute ride home but only while accelerating. During this whole episode not once did any warning light come on. I got home and popped the hood to listen to it(I did video record the sound) and to check the oil. The oil was a bit low but I topped it off and then put a code reader on the vehicle. The only thing that came back was a low voltage on the battery. The next morning I started it up and the noise was even louder. After a few minutes the sound subsided a bit, albeit still loud. I was able to drive it to work so that our mechanics could hear it and all three said it sounded like a bearing went bad and that the engine might be a loss. I spoke to another friend that is a mechanic that hosts a local radio show and he said that he had a show recently about how he is seeing A LOT of Hyundai's coming in with the exact same problem. He told me about a recall from 9/19/2017 with the #17V578000. While I am not certain that this pertains to my vehicle, everyone that has read the recall says that can absolutely be the issue. I have tried calling Hyundai Consumer Affairs but sit on hold forever only to be finally disconnected from the call. I am taking it in to Hyundai on January 6th, 2023 for the ABS recall and they said they would charge me $199 to look at this issue. After reading through all of the complaints regarding this problem Hyundai needs to make it right for their "valued" customers.

Car seems to stall on slow turns, then after 2 seconds its back to normal. Dangerous when turning to avoid oncoming traffic. This vehicle belongs to my granddaughter (Britney N. Smith) I'm driving it as it's too dangerous for her. Dealerships have no solution for this problem!

LEAKED TANK OF GAS. GAS LINE RUPTURED

Feb 9, 2022

When I pull into traffic the car has a big hesitation before it starts to go. Almost feels like it is going to stall. Hyundai dealers said it is not a problem. Looked on a Hyundai blog site and found alot of people have complained about the same problem. Thus has been a chronic problem for me.

Jan 27, 2022

Car has repeatedly lost power or hesitated when making turns. Now it lost power and decelerated over 10 mph abruptly while driving on I-65. After deceleration the car would not accelerate to in a normal fashion. Took minutes to get up to speed. Upon a test drive at the dealership, Terry Lee Hyundai, I was told nothing was wrong with the car. I refused to believe that after my highway driving incident and made them test it again. It produced a dTC code of P0088. After having my car for four days they tried to return it to me again saying nothing was wrong with it. I was dumbfounded. How can I have a drastic highway incident and DTC codes emailed to me via bluelink and nothing be wrong. I feel this car is unsafe for highway driving. May cause a wreck due to the losing power while turning issue and now this highway driving issue. The car drove normal under 60 mph. The turning issue happens when the car makes quick 90 degree turns. Also the engine was replaced due to electrical interference issues at 96000 miles. Car has always had loss of power issues followed by the lack of the ability to accelerate properly. Please help!!!!

Dec 8, 2021

We consistently had issues with losing power on turns. My wife questioned Hyundai many times. They took it for a test drive and said they could not duplicate the issue and that they did not receive any complaints from anyone. We believed them until I saw many complaints on various websites including this site. Then the major issue occurred. I was merging onto an interstate making a big right hand loop and while I was in the middle of the right turn loop, the car lost power and then it did not come back. I had multiple cars behind me and many on the highway with nowhere to pull over. Top speed was 45 mph. It turned out to be a blown Turbo. The car is under warranty. That was in July of 2021. It is now December 2021 and I still do not have my car with no idea of when it will be fixed. After telling us they would have the part in August (which didn't happen) then September (which didn't happen) then November (which again did not happen) they said they didn't even show a ship order any longer for the part. We were told to call customer affairs. I called them on 11/22 and again on 12/8 - still no one is calling back. I'm stuck driving a small car while I'm paying for an SUV that no one will give any feedback. There were many cars at the dealer lot which appeared to be the same issue - same model. This has to qualify for the lemon law. The loss of power suddenly is extremely dangerous so if you have one, be careful.

May 30, 2021 Fire

Smelled smoke at a stop light. Continued when light turned green. Pulled over about 30 car lengths later because smoke was coming in the vents. Jumped out of car and ran. Within 2 minutes, entire front engine was completely engulfed in flames. No indicator light came on before. Car was driving perfect.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2.0T TO ENTER THE FREEWAY, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE NORMALLY. IT STARTED TO SHAKE AND FELT LIKE THE ENGINE WAS "MISFIRING" AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO GET UP TO 60MPH. I TRIED TAKING MY FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR AND PRESSING IT AGAIN BUT IT WOULD ONLY LOSE SPEED AND THEN I'D HAVE TO WORK MY WAY UP TO 60 MPH. I WAS TRAVELLING STRAIGHT AND ON A FLAT ROAD. ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN FOOT WAS ON ACCELERATOR, THEN IT WENT OFF. ONCE I WAS OFF THE FREEWAY AND TRIED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN FROM A STOP, CAR WOULDN'T ACCELERATE GOING UP THE INCLINE AND THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT MY TAIL END. FINALLY,I TURNED LEFT TO GO UP THE HILL TOWARD MY HOUSE, I COULD ONLY GET UP TO 15 MPH BUT RPMS WERE BETWEEN 3500-4000. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC BEHIND ME BUT I WAS AFRAID I WASN'T GOING TO MAKE IT UP THE STREET OR THAT SOME CAR WOULD COME UP BEHIND ME AND MY CAR WOULD STOP. IN ORDER FOR A CAR TO BE SAFE IT NEEDS TO BE RELIABLE IN ACCELERATION AS MUCH AS BRAKING AND STEERING! I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP DAY AFTER TOMORROW.

DURING ACCELERATION FROM A STOP SIGN/RED LIGHT OR TURNING THE ENGINE HESITATES FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS AFTER SEVERAL TRIES BEFORE REACHING DESIRED SPEED. WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL ON FREEWAYS THERE IS A 10 TO 15 SECOND DELAY WHEN ACCELERATING OR PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH IN ONE INSTANCE CAUSED A NEAR ACCIDENT ON A HIGH SPEED FREEWAY. MY VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN CAUSING OTHER VEHICLES GO AROUND ME PASSING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE LANE. THESE HESITATIONS HAVE CAUSED ME SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS AND MAKES ME NOT FEEL CONFIDENT WHEN DRIVING THIS CAR. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MANY OCCASIONS AND THEY REPORT NO ERROR CODES SHOW UP AND, THE MECHANIC CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION EARLIER THIS YEAR. THERE HAS BEEN NO IMPROVEMENT. I HAVE REVIEWED MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS HESITATION PROBLEM. WILL IT TAKE DEATH REPORTS TO HELP US OWNERS? MY ISSUE BEGAN IN 2018 RIGHT AFTER PURCHASE AND THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING MORE OFTEN NOW. NO HELP IS IN SIGHT WHEN HYUNDAI AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO ADMIT THE PROBLEM AND MAKES ME AND OTHER OWNERS FEEL LIKE WE DON'T KNOW OUR VEHICLES OR OUR OWN MINDS!! WE NEED HELP BEFORE A DEATH OCCURS NOT AFTER!!

MY 2017 SANTA FE SPORT WITH THE 2.0 TURBO ENGINE, HESITATES ALL THE TIME WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE OR MAKE A TURN FOR APROX. 1-2 SECONDS, THUS IT MAKES FOR A HAZARDOUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE TURNING IN FRONT OF ON COMING TRAFFIC.

WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT FROM A STOP OR LOW SPEED (<10 MPH) ON A PAVED CITY STREET, INTERMITTENTLY THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND TO MY GAS PEDAL. I CAN HAVE THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. ONLY AFTER 1.5 TO 2.0 SECONDS WILL THE CAR REACT, AND WHEN IT DOES, IT IS VIOLENTLY FAST. THIS CAUSES ISSUES WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS STALLING FOR ALMOST 2 SECONDS BEFORE THE CAR BEGINS TO MOVE FORWARD (VIOLENTLY).

A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE AN AVOIDANCE MANEUVER IF NECESSARY SINCE THERE IS NO IMMEDIATE THROTTLE RESPONSE. THE SAME SITUATION OCCURS WHEN AT SLOW SPEEDS A POTHOLE OR BUMP IS ENCOUNTERED DURING A TURN. AGAIN, DANGEROUS, BECAUSE WITHOUT A RESPONSIVE THROTTLE NO AVOIDANCE MANEUVER IS POSSIBLE. N.B. WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A REDLIGHT OR WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY MOMENTUM ON THE ROAD, THE ACCELERATION DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY AND THE RPMS BEGIN TO REV UP HIGH, BOUNCING UP AND DOWN, BUT THE SANTA FE SPORT WILL STALL. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ISSUE CONTINUES AND PANIC SENTS IN DUE TO THE CARS BEHIND US CAN REAR END THE SANTA FE SPORT. NO MATTER HOW FAR OR HARD THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED THE SANTA FE SPORT WILL STALL. ALL WHILE NO "ENGINE LIGHT" TURNS ON. TOOK THE SANTA FE SPORT FOR SERVICE TO THE DEALER OVER 6 TIMES BETWEEN 2017 AND 2018 AND ONLY AN EMS PART WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES MOSTLY IN VERY BAD TRAFFIC, AGAIN VERY CONCERNING FOR SAFETY. THE SANTA FE SPORT NEEDS TO BE TURNED OFF AND BACK ON IN ORDER FOR THE PROBLEM TO CEASE. NO MATTER WHAT DRIVE MODE IT IS IN (ECO; SPORT; NORMAL) THE ISSUE PERSISTS. WE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2017 SANTA FE SPORT RIGHT OFF THE LOT WHICH HAS BEEN PAID FOR AND IT IS UNFAIR THAT WE ARE STILL PAYING WHAT SEEMS LIKE OUR LIVES WE CONTINUE TO SPEND MORE WITH GAS, TOLLS, TRAVEL AND TIME FROM WORK TO TAKE THE SANTA FE SPORT IN FOR SERVICE AND WE DO NOT GET REFUNDED FOR THIS.

AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO A ROAD WAY IT HAS BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN AS APPROACHING CARS FROM THE REAR CLOSE WHAT WAS A SAFE DISTANCE TO BEING ON TOP OF THE BUMPER IN NO TIME SINCE I CAN NOT ACCELERATE. 0-40 CAN TAKE UPWARDS OF 30 SECONDS WITH PEDAL DEPRESSED FULL. CAR WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE AT DEALER IN DECEMBER 2017 AND WAS "CORRECTED". NOW THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME WORSE AND CAR WILL PRODUCE PROBLEM MORE FREQENTLY AND IN ANY DRIVING CONDITION TO INCLUDE BEING IN TRAFFIC. THE ONLY WAY I CAN SOMEWHAT CORRECT THE ISSUES (AND FIGURED IT OUT DURING TRIAL AND ERROR) IS TO TURN THE DRIVE MODE TO SPORT AND TURN OFF TRACTION CONTROL. WHEN CAR IS IN ECO THE PROBLEM IS MUCH MORE SERVE AND IN NORMAL IT FREQUENTLY HAPPENS. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO ADJUST OR TURN OFF SYSTEMS IN A VEHICLE TO MAKE IT SAFE TO DRIVE NOR SHOULD I HAVE A VEHICLE I CAN NOT DRIVE AT SAFE SPEEDS.

ENGINE STUMBLES WHEN ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY FROM A STOP OR TURNING A CORNER. I CALL IT THROTTLE LAG OR STUMBLING.

MY NEW SANTA FE 2017 HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR NOT REACTING TO PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. YOUR PRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE AND THE ENGINE DOES NOT REV. THE HESITATION IS ABOUT 2 SECONDS LONG AND IS VERY SCARY. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND FROM A STOPPED POSITION. I'M AFRAID AT SOME POINT THERE WILL BE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT FROM THIS PROBLEM. I'VE HEARD THERE IS A RECALL 16-01-032 FOR THE TCU UPDATE 60CO61R1 BUT I REACHED OUT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I DID SOME RESEARCH THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. I NOTICED THIS PROBLARY A WEEK AFTER PURCHASE.

CAR HAS SERIOUS, DANGEROUS ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. IT'S MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN TURNING LEFT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CAR APPEARS TO LOSE ALL POWER WHEN ACCELERATING - HANGING FOR SECONDS WHILE NOTHING HAPPENS. ENGINE HITS REDLINE ALL THE TIME AND IT BARELY GAINS SPEED. CALLED DEALER AND WAS FIRST TOLD "DUAL CLUTCH WILL LEARN DRIVING STYLE." AFTER NOTING CAR HAS 2K MILES WAS THEN TOLD "THE DELAY IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THAT CAR." THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. I'VE ALMOST BEEN T-BONED MULTIPLE TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS. GOOGLING LED ME TO MANY OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.

MY WIFE AND I HAVE HAD THE SAME INTERMITTENT PROBLEM SINCE ACQUIRING OUR 2017 SANTA FE BRAND NEW IN THE LATE SPRING OF 2016. WHEN TURNING FROM A STOP OR MAKING A VERY LOW SPEED TURN, AND THEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AND HESITATE, NOT MOVING OR "CATCHING" FOR 1-2 SECONDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US APPROXIMATELY 6-8 TIMES. AND I'VE NEARLY BEEN REAR-ENDED ON SEVERAL OF THOSE OCCASIONS BECAUSE I WAS STALLED IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, ALSO TRYING TO MAKE THE TURN . ONCE I BARELY CLEARED THE INTERSECTION AT A LIGHT WHEN TURNING LEFT, HAVING THE SANTA FE STALL IN THE FACE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS NEARLY BROADSIDED BY SWIFT MOVING, ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT FULLY ADDRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE PUBLIC NEEDS PROTECTION AND A REMEDY. I CAN'T IMAGINE HYUNDAI IS UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I DID A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH ON THE TOPIC, AND FOUND MANY, MANY POSTINGS REGARDING THIS EXACT SAME SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES. THERE WERE HYUNDAI MESSAGE BOARD COMPLAINTS, NHTSA COMPLAINTS, "LEMON" LAW FIRMS WHOA ARE ADVERTISING, SEEKING POTENTIAL 2017 SANTA FE OWNING CLIENTS, CITING THIS EXACT SET OF FACTS. IT'S DIFFICULT TO CONFIRM EXACT DATES, AS THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MOST RECENT TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN EARLY MAY 2017, AT AN INTERSECTION LESS THAN A MILE FROM OUR HOME, MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A STOP, WITH TRAFFIC LINED UP BEHIND US.

THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" INDICATOR TURNED ON, AND THERE WAS A RECOGNIZABLE FAILURE IN ENGINE WHEN SRTARTING. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERAND TOOK NEARLYA MONTH TO FIND THE INCONVINIENCE AND TWO WEEKS TO FIX IT. THEY CALL ME BACK TO ANNUONCE ME IT WAS READY AND BY THE TIME I WAS RECIVING I NOTICED THE AIR CONDITIONAR NOT FUNCTIONING AT ALL. ONCE AGAIN ONE MORE WEEK TO FIND THE MISSFUNCTIONING AND REPARING, NOW THE VEIHICLE IS CONSUMMING TO MUCH GASOLINE (ALMOST HALF TANK IN 87 KILOMETER) THE INJECTORS PROBLEM PLEVAILS. I GET THE SANTA FE IN MXICO, CIUDAD JUAREZ CHIHUAHUA AT HYNDAI PENTA IS THE NAME OF THE AGENCY, AS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE WHIT 0 KILOMETERS AND I PAY IT IN CASH I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO RESPOND. THANK YOU.

CAR HESITATES TO ACCELERATE FROM A COMPLETE STOP, ACCELERATING WHILE COMING OUT OF TURN, OR SLOWING DOWN AND ACCELERATING AGAIN. ALSO SEEMS TO BE USING A LOT OF GAS. HAVEN'T CALCULATED IT YET BUT CAN SEE THE FUEL GAUGE LOWER AS I'M DRIVING. CAR ONLY HAS 17000 MILES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE HESITATED BEFORE ACCELERATING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT A FUEL ADDITIVE BE ADDED TO THE FUEL TANK, BUT THAT DID NOT HELP. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,000.
