I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with ~88,000 miles. I noticed on 12/18/2025 that the oil lamp light came on briefly then turned off. So, I decided to take my car in to get serviced on 12/19/2025. I was told that there is an oil consumption issue with the engine and that Hyundai would need to do a combustion cleaning, and worst case scenario a full engine replacement. Hyundai refuses to cover us under warranty because we transferred the car from my Mother-in-Law's name to my wife's name. I want to file this as a complaint to the NHTSA because a car that isn't even 10-years old AND has less than 90,000 miles should not be needing an engine replacement. Hyundai appears to be aware of the issue as my service advisor at the dealership has mentioned that several of their cars with this engine have the exact same issue. To me, this sounds like a defect and should have a recall.
“My 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4 has been experiencing severe oil consumption issues for a long time. I previously completed a combustion chamber cleaning service as recommended, but the problem continued. On November 10, the Hyundai dealership confirmed the engine oil was low and topped it off. On December 10, the oil was completely empty again with no warning lights. The dealer has documented the issue and recommended an engine replacement, but Hyundai is refusing to approve the repair . The vehicle continues to lose oil rapidly, creating a serious safety risk of engine failure or stalling while driving. This appears to be a known safety-related engine defect affecting this model.”
# **NHTSA Complaint Answers** ### **1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?** The **engine** failed due to **sudden and extreme oil consumption** that resulted in the engine being completely dry of oil despite regular maintenance. This caused internal damage including **CVVT (Continuous Variable Valve Timing) system failure**, bearing damage, and a complete engine seizure. Yes, the failed engine is fully available for inspection upon request. The vehicle is currently located at Dick Smith Hyundai in Greenville, South Carolina, where the dealership diagnosed the failure and recommended a full engine long block replacement. ### **2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?** The engine failure occurred **suddenly and without warning**, causing the vehicle to lose power while operating. The loss of engine function created the risk of: * sudden deceleration in traffic, * inability to accelerate or maneuver, * potential rear-end collision, * complete engine stall in unsafe conditions. The vehicle had **no oil warning light** prior to the failure, meaning I had no indication that the engine was at risk until the failure occurred. ### **3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?** Yes. The engine failure was confirmed by: • **Schwab’s Automotive** in Fayetteville, NC – determined the engine suffered catastrophic internal damage and was not repairable. • **Dick Smith Hyundai** dealership – confirmed **high oil consumption and CVVT damage**, and recommended a full **engine long block replacement** (estimate: $8,160.60). The problem has been fully verified by both an independent mechanic and an authorized Hyundai dealership. ## **4.Yes.The vehicle was formally inspected by Hyundai Motor America through the dealership’s diagnostic report. Hyundai reviewed the case (Case #XXX) after receiving the dealership findings. The engine remains intact avai. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF IN
While driving on the highway at normal speed, the vehicle suddenly lost power with no prior warning lamps or messages, placing me and other road users at immediate risk. The engine rapidly began knocking, lost acceleration, then stalled completely. I had to coast to the shoulder, which was extremely dangerous in high-speed traffic. The failure appears consistent with bearing wear and debris circulation described in Hyundai Recall 168 and TSB 17-01-071, which warn that certain Hyundai 3.3L engines can suffer internal metallic debris contamination during manufacturing. This can restrict oil flow, damage the bearings, and lead to sudden engine seizure without warning — exactly what happened in this incident. After the failure, the engine was inspected by a Hyundai dealership, but no oil sample, no debris test, and no photo documentation were provided, even though the recall procedure requires these steps when symptoms match knock/no-start failure patterns. The cause was not reproduced or confirmed by any independent mechanical test; the vehicle simply failed suddenly and has remained inoperable since. The incident created a major safety risk because the sudden loss of power happened at highway speed with no safe way to maintain vehicle control or speed. Based on known recall documentation, the symptoms match the described safety-related engine defect. The vehicle remains available for inspection. There were no injuries or police reports, but the situation definitely could have resulted in a crash. In my assessment, this is a critical safety defect related to internal engine debris and bearing failure, consistent with the known Hyundai recall pattern for this engine family
This vehicle has experienced numerous serious failures, including two engine replacements, a transmission replacement, and persistent safety system malfunctions. The Downhill Brake Control (DBC) system remains stuck in the "on" position, and the traction control warning light stays illuminated. These issues directly compromise vehicle safety and stability, particularly on hilly or wet roads. Despite extensive service at Arapahoe Hyundai in Centennial, CO, these problems continue to return. The vehicle has been in the shop multiple times and was most recently in service for nearly 30 days. My wife was stranded at the dealership today due to the same unresolved safety system failure. Dealer communication has been poor, and repairs are often incomplete, requiring immediate return visits. The repeated failure of safety-critical systems, combined with the inability to resolve the issues long-term, presents a significant safety concern for both my family and others on the road. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate whether this is part of a broader defect pattern affecting 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe models and if a recall is warranted.
Was driving on [XXX] (approximately 130 miles from home), when a loud clunking and metal on metal sound was heard, the causing power loss, slowing of vehicle and necessitated immediate pulling over to the side of the road. The was a catastrophic internal engine failure which caused the spark plugs to blow out. There were no warnings. The car was just inspected and had an oil change earlier in the month. The vehicle suffered sudden power loss and violent metal-on-metal destruction while transporting my child on [XXX] (130 miles from home). Certified diagnostics from Kennett Square Quick Lane Auto confirm: "Multiple spark plugs forcibly ejected due to severe internal engine damage – full replacement required". Quick Lane said they would not be able to replace the Engine. so the Vehicle was towed to Reliable Car Connection (West Chester, PA). I had tried to make an appointment at Piazza Hyundai, but the did not have appointments until Mid August. Result: Stranded overnight requiring hotel and towing/tolls at personal expense (receipts available). This traumatic event directly stems from Hyundai’s acknowledged Theta II defects. Hyundai’s Documented Failures: Recall Compliance: Recall 996 (Piazza Hyundai, 4/12/24) Recall 953 (1/31/19) Recall 163 (7/18/17) Maintenance: All services performed per Hyundai schedules (records available). Unresolved Defects: This failure matches: Recall 20VH4 (Lifetime Warranty Extension) Recall 20VH5 TSB 20-01-033H Current Status: Vehicle at Reliable Car Connection (West Chester, PA) after Piazza Hyundai’s unacceptable 6-week delay. INOPERABLE & UNSAFE – Cannot transport children. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
2017 Santa Fe, car had fire in 09/2024 and was with dealership until 05/2025. BSD, ABS, TRACTION, and Parking Brake lights on the dash when vehicle was picked up. Dealership not complaint to pay as the assume it is an Outside issue
I bought this vehicle at Enterprise car sales back in [XXX] and it's been having issues for a while now recall after recall I bought this vehicle at 7745 Indiana avenue Riverside California 92504 I actually bought this vehicle without realizing that this car had a recall prior to buying it off the lot therefore in California law this company should have not sold the vehicle with a recall as Hyundai has warned me about this as he advised they cannot sell a vehicle with a recall on it. When I had to Google search my recall as I have not received a letter Enterprise car sales gained the letter for the recall prior to my buy and did not mention anything as this recall was sent out on the letter way prior to buying ever since buying this vehicle I have had numerous recalls as to now there is a GDI issue with the engines as I have made many complaints through the financing company Santander consumer USA, Hyundai, Enterprise car sales, and it seems like no one has listened to me on the lemon I have gained as I'm sure it sounds just like a complaining customer. I pay a very high interest rate and very high monthly payments 523 a month is expensive let alone expensive to pay for a vehicle that I constantly have to put in maintenance and now my engine is gone my VIN number somehow is not on regards to the recall but yet my VIN number has been on every recall Hyundai has ever given out when it comes to my vehicle as the GDI 3.3 l should be really considered on regards to a recall as well as the 2.4. I'm not very happy as I would like to have a voice on to what is fair I am sick of this vehicle having issues after issues as I do take care of my vehicles with good maintenance routine all I can ask for is to have someone here my voice and to take action either from Enterprise car sales to Hyundai which I believe Enterprise car sales is more reliable at this point than Hyundai since Hyundai let me be aware of the California law they cannot sell a vehicle with recall. The vehicle started to stall/drive in limp mode. I took it to the Hyundai dealership, and they quoted me $5000 for repairs. The repair recommendations were as followed: ensure connecting rod bearings are within spec, recommending performing timing job w/replacement of intake camshaft, e-cvvt motor/gear, e-cvvt cover, and other components necessary for repairs. This engine burns/consumes oil and the engine code that shows up in P00100. All of this after I paid it off. Not within warranty anymore either. $22,000 down the drain it seems... called hyundai customer service to see if there was anything that could be done but they said there is nothing they can do and I have to fix it even though it is a manufacturing issue.
Was going down the highway at 65 when my vehicle completely lost the accelerating component. Almost got rear ended so I pulled off. Then made it to work when it happened again. The engine light came on and gave 2 codes. Finally got it towed to the dealership where they have decided it’s either a new timing chain or new engine due to mechanical loss. They discovered there was no oil in the car and they have also found metal shavings in my oil. Now they are telling me I need a whole new engine. I only have 124000 miles on this car. The car was driving perfectly fine the day before and had just been to the dealer and looked over 1,500 miles before and I was told everything was perfect working condition. I am out $4000 on a car I bought a year and a half ago in October 2023.Was told my warranty only lasted a year.
T3G Campaign 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport AWD, 116000 miles. Purchased from a dealer in VA [XXX]. Never would have purchased if engine issues had been disclosed. The letter re:T3G campaign went out to dealers/service managers from Hyundai (of which I have a copy) is dated for October 2019. We never received any information regarding a T3G campaign. We took my car to the dealership on 12/16/24. (Valdese, NC). In 5 hours, they said they ran diagnostics & found the P0302 Misfire code. Without running further tests, they adamantly claimed there was a dead cylinder & the only fix was to replace the engine. Note: Spark plugs were replaced 2 weeks before this visit on Dec 1, 2024. They refused to listen to my concerns about the T3G campaign. Said vehicle didn't have that issue. That they couldn't run the tests because the P1326 code wasn't present (but it was in Sept). They didn't do anything about the current open recalls. They said they didn't have time. Corporate confirmed that my vehicle has had the correct service campaigns completed to qualify for the T3G campaign. I have called corporate twice-No response. We are very upset over the lack of care and solutions. We gave consent for work & nothing was done. The service manager was practically shouting that this car would leave me stranded, it wasn’t safe to drive, & that the only option to fix was to replace the engine/get rid of it. I was basically told it wasn't worth fixing. Putting a new engine in would equal than the car is worth at trade in value. No one can give me a guarantee that a new engine (even brand new from the factory) would not have the same problem that is happening now. Make this right by immediately authorizing an engine replacement for my vehicle to include a loaner vehicle & tow charge cover. I am aware of the class action lawsuit from 2021. Hyundai refuses to issue a recall for this engine issue. Please see attached letter for more information. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Catastrophic engine failure without warning. Rod bearings blew car unable to produce power.
While driving on rural side road, two lanes, my check engine light (yellow, steady) came on. I pulled into a safe spot and did a quick survey, checked the owner manual, but could not identify any problem, and continued on my way. The check engine light was still on. About 15 minutes later the car would not accelerate past 25 mph (limp mode?). I was on a two-lane mountain road, speed limit 45 (but most cars were faster), visibility limited by terrain, trees, etc. Again, there was little traffic around me and I found a safe place to pull over. in neutral the engine revved normally. I turned the ignition off, checked oil level, (normal), turned the engine back on and started driving to find a safe place to pull over and summon help, but the car drove normally. I drove directly to my repair shop and had the codes pulled, (0436, 0021) which indicate a problem with timing. When a qualified tech examined it he recommended taking to the dealer. Unwilling to drive in traffic, I had it towed to the dealership. Their inspection revealed damage to CVVT components and the timing chain, and recommend an (expensive) engine rebuild.
While driving a 1/2 second squeal came from engine compartment. Motor immediately stopped. No power steering or brakes. Vehicle is available for inspection. We were on an interstate We coasted to shoulder. There issue is frequent on Internet forums. A trusted mechanic old us the engine was totally seized. Could be turned manually. No oil in crankcase. At this time only aforementioned mechanic has inspected the vehicle. No warning sounds or performance changes prior to incident. No warning lights or notice warnings were seen prior coincident.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle briefly shifted erratically, slamming into gear and violently lunging forward. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, who was also unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
The car has intermittent hard upshift from 1st to 2nd gear. It feels as if the transmission seems to slip for a moment then jolts the car, making a hard bang noise and jerking forward, and at times spinning the rear wheels. If I stop the car, turn off the engine and restart it clears the issue. It does not throw off any codes. I have taken it to the Hyundai Dealer several times and they have verified it with me while in the car but since it does not give a code or warning lights they tell me they cannot fix it. Hyundai corporate has also been made aware. This started at 77K miles and has been occurring for the last 3 years. I have brought it into hyundai over a dozen times for the concern. I have several videos of the issue
The vehicle suddenly shut down while driving and the wheels locked up. There were no warning indicators at all. The failure happened to occur on a residential street, but if at speed on a highway this likely would have resulted an an accident. Upon inspection at the dealership it was determined that a connecting rod bearing failed and the rod had created a nearly 3 inch split in the engine block.
I had just dropped my son off at the barbershop by my apartment. As I left the parking lot I proceeded to pull out into the street,as i tried to accelerate the car sputtered & lost all power. I then coasted into a nearby Wendy's. I parked & tried to crank the car to no avail. I then noticed a burning smell followed by some smoke. I had no dash lights prior to indicate any issues. I ended up calling my insurance to get help with the vehicle. Long story short the starter, coil pack & plugs along with the engine had to be replaced.2

The engine light came on and gave 2 codes. Finally got it towed to the dealership where they have decided it’s either a new timing chain or new engine due to mechanical loss. On [XXX] (a Sunday, 9 pm), my 19 year old daughter was driving our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited when a solid yellow check engine light came on. No other warning lights were on. She called us, but since a solid check engine light should not indicate an emergent issue, we advised her to carefully drive the car back to school and we'd get it checked out the next day (since it was after 9 pm on a Sunday). The vehicle didn't make it that far. While driving, the car suddenly lost power and stalled. It started up again but made a terrible sound. We were able to call roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to a nearby Hyundai dealership. The dealership tells us the car needs a new engine and that our VIN it is not covered under any of the other current engine recalls (even though this is the exact same issue as those recalls) and also said they will not repair under the 100,000 mile warranty, since we are the 2nd owners. We are awaiting a report from the dealership on exactly what happened to kill the engine, but we can infer, through the discussion with the service manage, that this is exactly the same issue happening with other versions of the Santa Fe engine -- including complete engine seizure without any accompanying warning lights or indications. This poses an imminent risk to the safety of drivers and passengers. My daughter was 20 minutes from her college dorm, late at night, and we can only be thankful she was not driving at high speed on the highway when the engine seizure occurred and also that she was not left stranded in an unpopulated stretch of highway. The vehicle is currently at Steele Hyundai (address: 24795 I-35, Kyle, TX 78640. Phone number: (512) 262-2020 ). They have quoted $13,000 for a used replacement engine. Please issue a recall on the 3.3l GDI engine. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My wife was driving down the freeway to work during morning commute when her 2017 Santa Fe just lost power, was only able to go maybe 20mph which during an early morning Bay Area commute is very dangerous... No engine light or any warning lights, this lasted for a couple miles until the next exit she pulled off still no warning indicators showing, she turned off the car for a few minutes, then turned it back on to continue to work there was still almost no power but no indicators on the dash, finally after a few minutes started driving normal again. The next day when she was on her way to work, she started getting an oil light, I drove 45min to her job checked and oil level was fine, turns out oil pressure sensor was bad. After that was replaced everything seemed normal for around 1month or so then noticed excessive oil consumption, needing to add 1qt every 1500-2000 mi, no oil leaking onto out driveway and can't see any oil leaks visually around engine. Oil consumption has gotten progressively worse, we keep it topped off every couple weeks. No we are getting check engine light and tapping sound on passenger side of engine. Codes P0346, P0021 and P0087, power is fine but tapping sounds bad and worried of failure while driving.
Oil compsumption noted and leakage noted by mechanic. Informed me could cause a fire in engine compartment. Unsafe to drive. I rented a car. . Engine burning oil, high oil consumption, oil leak. Reported to Hyundai. Took vehicle to Kerry Hyundai, Alexandria, Ky. Was informed that Hyundai won’t take care of it. Filed a complaint. Mediation through The Better Business Burrau. Claim was denied. I was not driving the car for a couple weeks. I am guardian of 2 school age children transporting to and from school and activities and was concerned for our safety. Took vehicle to Superior Hyundai, Cincinnati, Ohio for an oil change and reported an oil leak. Was informed there was no oil leak. Had oil changes at Valvoline, Newport,Ky, No report of oil leak. Walmart, Ft Wright ,Ky pointed out leak from oil pan. Replaced oil pan. Check engine light came on. Took vehicle to Konen’s Pittstop , Bellevue, Ky who repaired oil leak. Continued oil check for consumption. Again check engine light illumination. Recently Replaced spark plugs & wires, catalytic converter. Engine running rough. Valves going bad. If car stalls on highway an accident could occur. Hyundai has a recall in the same year and make but not for those manufactured in the state of Alabama. The dealership inspection was about a year ago at Kerry Hyundai, Alexandria, Ky. They only recommended oil changes. I cannot afford the additional engine repairs. Hyundai has prior knowledge of the engine defect and refuses a recall thereby endangering peoples lives.
I first brought my car into a Hyundai certified service center after my car shook violently and my check engine light started flashing at me. I had to pull over on the side of a busy highway which is a safety risk on it's own. the Hyundai service center "fixed" my car and I was on my way. this was In September of 2023. on February 14th 2024 the same thing happened leaving me stranded on the side of another busy highway during rush hour traffic. I got the car towed to a dealer and they are telling me I need to replace my engine since there is a malfunction with the exact same parts that they replaced in September. In September They pretty much rebuilt my engine and now, less then 6 months later, they are telling me my engine is shot and needs to be replaced. How could $6,000 worth of engine parts fail after less than 6 month? not only is that not stable financially for anyone who owns one of these vehicles, it is a huge safety risk! even if I do replace the engine in my car, when will it go out again? 5 months? maybe 6 if I am lucky? at least the last 2 times, I was lucky enough to be in the right lane already and make it to the side of the road in time. What happens if that is not the case next time?
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that during cold starts, the vehicle experienced hard shifting from first to second gear. After restarting the vehicle, the failure was corrected. The vehicle was taken to the local transmission specialist who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.

I was driving down the road to get dog food when all the electrical went black on the car and it started down shifting, it quickly came back on It put my safety and others around me at risk as I was on [XXX] in Eustis a high traffic area in the middle lane and close to nowhere to get on the side. The next day it had started knocking - the rod bearings, I turned it off quickly and that was the last time I had turned it on. I had taken it to the shop and they said the engine will have to be replaced. We have had this (2nd owner) car a little over a year. Owe 24k on it and they are telling me it will be 14k to replace the engine. Towed it to our local Hyundai where they are saying the same and there is no recall on it. On [XXX], I was driving southbound on the highway near Elizabeth City, NC when all of a sudden, my vehicle decelerated from 65 mph to 20 mph (limp mode) with no warning except for the sudden onset of a knocking noise in the engine compartment and the check engine light coming on immediately before entering limp mode. I was in the passing lane and thankfully was able to safely make it to the shoulder of the road. I had the vehicle towed to an independent engine and transmission shop where I was informed that the timing chain had caused severe damage to the engine, including metal shavings in the fluids. I had just had an oil change 3 days prior and am the second owner of the vehicle. It only has approximately 78,500 miles on it and I have only owned it for three months. I have insured that all maintenance was up to date and verified with the dealer that it had been maintained per the maintenance schedule prior to me purchasing it. The engine seems to be a constant and known problem for 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe’s with the 3.3L engines, and it truly needs to be addressed before someone is seriously injured or, worse yet, killed from not being able to safely make it to the shoulder of a road. On 11/6/ 2023, while drive on the turnpike my check engine light went on and vehicle went in limp mode. I was scared and felt unsafe as I did not know what was happening. Got vehicle to dealer and P1326 was the code. Vehicle needs new engine. BCT test failed. Hyundai not helpful even when documentation provided.
Driving down rd at 35 mph felt a sudden jolt and loud noise, car lost power and all lights came on. Coasted to a safe driveway and shut it down. Tried to re- start and it was a loud racket so immediately turned back off. Crazy thing is the oil was just changed , no leaks in garage or warning lights. Now I’m stuck trying to replace an engine that should’ve lasted more than 5 years!
Morning of October 16th, wife said engine "clicked" at start and then stopped at idle. I checked oil as it had been changed week prior and all levels were normal, then performed diagnostic with Carista tool and app, no codes. That evening while on the way to my 4 year olds practice, the car stopped in a lane of travel on a main cross town thoroughfare in Charlotte NC in rush hour, my wife, 4 year old, and 1 year old in the car. No light or indicators AT ALL ever came on NOTHING, no check engine light, nothing. Had it towed to local shop and he said this is the 10th or 11th Santa Fe we have seen with the V6, it most likely is the motor. So he does prelim diagnostic and suspects a thrown bearing and recommended we tow to Hyundai dealership, just at 70k, how is this possible? We are second owners and our VIN does not qualify for campaign 168. Shocking to now realize this appears to be an ongoing issues with this engine
The engine of my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe started making a loud knocking sound on 9/29/2023. I took the car to a certified mechanic who said that the engine had “thrown a rod.” I researched the NHTSA website and found NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report No. 17V-578 dated Sep 20, 2017. While I never received this notice, the Descriptive Information and Description Defect mirror the problem with my car exactly. The recall was for 3.3L “Lambda” engines produced at the Asan Plant (Korea) between January 26, 2017 and February 13, 2017. My car was produced February 7, 2017.
My ‘17 Santa Fe has been well taken care of with regular oil changes and we have kept up with the recommended maintenance. While driving on 8/17/2023 the car started to struggle to accelerate and I heard a knocking sound. Within moments there was total engine and power failure and I had to quickly get the vehicle off the road to avoid being rear ended. There were no warning lights on until the moment it was dying. The battery light, check engine light, and oil light came on, but then the vehicle had quickly lost all power immediately after. Once it was towed to Meineke and looked over by the mechanics there it was determined that it needs a new engine and that it had very, very little oil in it.
Upon approaching stop sign, the vehicle stalled and after restart, the vehicle ceased acceleration at intervals. This caused the vehicle to impede/slow traffic during journey. Again, at stop light, the vehicle stalled and “all” warning lights appeared. The engine failed to restart and the vehicle was towed from traffic due to engine failure. The vehicle is a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4 with 116,000 miles. An Engine Class Settlement has been established for the model years 2010-2012 with this same issue. The vehicle will be towed to a dealership for inspection, confirmation and repair. I felt the need to make an incident report thinking maybe other reports have been filed, also, and the manufacturer reusing to admit to problem issues.
The car is 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with a defective crankshaft. The car is leaking oil. I called Hyundai and they noted that although they have recall 168 the VIN for my car doesn't match a recall that is on their website. I spoke to a Hyundai case manager today who said that even though my car has the defective crankshaft they will not repair the vehicle because it beyond 100,000 and the recall is expired. I am seeking help from the NHTSA as my car should be covered under this recall. I took it to an independent shop that noted that my car should be covered. I have photo and documents to prove that my car should be covered under this recall. My VIN just doesn't match their records and they are denying my claim.
Not really an incident but my car has the same issue as the class action lawsuit from Hyundai for issues with the connector rods going out. I can’t get it fixed because of this issue. Hyundai says they can’t do anything about it and sent me your info! Can someone please help me? I still owe $23,000.00 on this car! Is there a way to add the recall to my car? It is an almost $14,000.00 repair! It started knocking out of nowhere and isn’t drivable because of the issue.
Camshaft actuator first thst costed over $4200 to fix and now engine needing to be rebuilt with an estimated cost of over $17 000
The crankshaft broke due to abnormal wear the cars mileage is 102000 the check engine light never cam on it died in the middle of the freeway with no warning at all
Without any notification from a malfunction indicator light, there was a sudden knock followed by loss of power. Luckily I was on a country road and not on the highway 99 where congested traffic could have been a hazard. My mechanic said it was a rod bearing code causing catastrophic failure of the motor.
My 2017 Sante Fe had an engine seizure on April 28th and Thank God nobody was injured. Allowing people to drive around in this ticking time bombs, without any notification of a potential issue, is very concerning. Especially for someone who owns 2 Hyundai vehicles that are driven on dangerous highways in PA. My car is not only serviced on a regular basis, but I am exception who actually checks his oil in between oil-changes. Little did i know or suspect what was happening under my hood. I had AAA tow my car to Freysinger Hyundai on Friday 4/29/23 for what was diagnosed by a trained mechanic to be Engine Seizure. Since that time, I have been very patient as I know I didn't have an appointment but i do own two vehicles from the dealership and expect some decent level of service. Three calls last week to the service department and all I was told was it was in line to be diagnosed. My car has about 88k miles on it currently and I am the original owner and therefore the 100k Mile Powertrain warranty is in effect. I just finished talking to the service manager, [XXX], and he informed me that my car is still waiting in line to be diagnosed as they are backed up with vehicles having similar issues. I asked if the dealership should contact me and give me updates and inquired about a loaner car to utilize while my current $45k car is in the shop. He informed me to rent a car from Enterprise and if approved, would be reimbursed. If my car is under warranty what question is there, other than the question of another recall. The folks at Enterprise told me they are getting a ton of Hyundai owners with engine seizure issues, which is what the AAA driver told me, and the service department at Freysinger keeps telling me. Engine Seizure in an acceleration lane could kill someone and this issues needs to be made public: check your oil outside normal service levels, and have all vehicles brought in and examined for signs of overheating/seizure. Rod bearing failure causing rod knocking. Engine needs rebuilt or replaced!
1. Over several documented and undocumented times since July 2021, this vehicle has consistently lost >1 quart of oil every 1k miles. 2. This issue has been confirmed by the dealerships involved several times. 3. It is identified as the Theta engine failure. It began in 2012-13 and has been a constant for Hyundai and Kia models for 7 years. 4. There were no warnings from the initial ignition vehicles system check or at any time while operating this vehicle. Even when the engine loss was measured at about 4 qts. 5. This vehicle has been through 2 complete "oil consumption" programs that measure the oil loss during three consecutive 1K mile periods. Also it has had 2 "combustion cleanings" after which a follow up 1k mile oil check found that it still lost >1 qt of oil. 6. The failure of this engine is always a concern. I have personal and anecdotal testimony of what can happen with the failure of this engine. My wife and I are both in our 70's. We are also helping our 26 year old grandson with various transportation requirements. He has spastic dysplasia cerebral palsy and is unable to walk without a cane or walker. Longer distances require a wheelchair. We cannot push that wheelchair, we cannot carry him. We are in trouble if this engine fails and we are miles from home. Also, the vehicle under went the required ECM UPDATE as required by the NHTSA at 39843 miles on January 11, 2019. This update required the installation of a module that would decrease the RPM'S of the engine if there was a failure. There are horror stories on various FB Group pages about the terror of being on a 70 mph road, in the middle lane, when the engine fails and goes immediately to 35 mph. I have a personal friend who experienced that on I-95 in Maryland and was petrified. 6. Finally, after speaking with various Hyundai Service employees, I feel that I was mistreated after the first process. When my SUV lost >1 qt after 1K miles after the cleaning, I should have gotten a new engine.
We were traveling down the road 12/08/22 and a clanging noise started. we were only a few miles from the Hyundai place in Orlando so we drove there. They put us in a rental and said most likely it threw a rod and would need the Engine replaced. It had about 95500 miles on it. Universal Hyundai called and said Hyuandi would replace the engine as goodwill with a rebuilt engine and It will cost me 1300.00. after 65 days in the shop they said I can pick it up. Drove it 11 miles and it broke down again. got it towed back to Universal Hyundai. They said it was the start and alternator and it will cost me 2000.00. My car is 4.5 hours away from where I live. The month before I had to have both sensor assy- oxygen replaced, they changed me for that also. In February of 2022 the Catiliyst Convertor was replaced, which was covered under warranty. I maintained my oil changes.
I had been driving my 2017 Santa Fe SE (6cyl, 3.3L engine) for approximately three hours when the battery, oil, and engine lights all lit up and the engine shut down immediately. I'd had no prior warning of an issue and lost power/control of the vehicle in less than a minute. My vehicle was towed to my mechanic who determined a complete engine failure. Tranfer of vehicle to Hyundai dealership for evaluation for work under warranty confirmed the engine failure.
Passenger airbag constantly coming on when there is a passenger, and when no one is on the passenger seat. Oil light has been flashing/ lighting up and going off. I told several service members about this problem, they all shrug it off. One said I could pay $150 for diagnostic test, but why should I pay when they know what’s going on with it? This seems to be a common issue with this vehicle, so why can’t I just get my car repaired and the company do right by consumers who have trusted them?! I thought the oil light coming on meant time for an oil change- even though it’s only been 2-3 weeks -because no one at my dealership where I get my car serviced mentioned it meant something more serious, like I’m LOW on oil... CONSTANTLY! This has been happening and my records at the dealership show I’ve been coming almost every two months for an oil change. I recently spoke with someone from the dealership in Daphne, Al and they told me they couldn’t help me AT ALL, not even the oil consumption tests because I’m not the original owner. Basically denied me of a service! How rude and inconsiderate, especially when I’m still paying for a car that potentially has engine problems. I paid for the extended warranty as well. Now all of a sudden, yesterday morning, on my way to work, my car was jerking/ missing like it doesn’t want to accelerate… and also when I was reversing! This is my only means of transportation to and from work. Thanks for reviewing my complaint and I hate I have to complain bc I love my little car. Just wish the dealership/ Hyundai would understand this isn’t right and might need to take these cars off the market or recall and fix! Please help!
***(NW Indiana)*** 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Ultimate FWD 3.3L - 64,000mi. Driven to and from work and around town. Purchased used with 31,000mi in July 2020 from Knauz Hyundai. On the afternoon of December 22nd, 2022 I went to accelerate from 35 mph at which point I heard "tick-tick-tick-tick-tick". I had never heard that sound before. I tried the accelerator again and the same "ticking" sound was there. It became progressively louder on the 15 minute ride home but only while accelerating. During this whole episode not once did any warning light come on. I got home and popped the hood to listen to it(I did video record the sound) and to check the oil. The oil was a bit low but I topped it off and then put a code reader on the vehicle. The only thing that came back was a low voltage on the battery. The next morning I started it up and the noise was even louder. After a few minutes the sound subsided a bit, albeit still loud. I was able to drive it to work so that our mechanics could hear it and all three said it sounded like a bearing went bad and that the engine might be a loss. I spoke to another friend that is a mechanic that hosts a local radio show and he said that he had a show recently about how he is seeing A LOT of Hyundai's coming in with the exact same problem. He told me about a recall from 9/19/2017 with the #17V578000. While I am not certain that this pertains to my vehicle, everyone that has read the recall says that can absolutely be the issue. I have tried calling Hyundai Consumer Affairs but sit on hold forever only to be finally disconnected from the call. I am taking it in to Hyundai on January 6th, 2023 for the ABS recall and they said they would charge me $199 to look at this issue. After reading through all of the complaints regarding this problem Hyundai needs to make it right for their "valued" customers.
I was accelerating on the highway and my RMPS shot the whole way up over 7,000 then bottomed out. I lost speed so I pulled over. Another car pulled over to inform me my car was on fire. I turned the car off and the fire went out. The car was towed to Blaise Alexander (dealership) in Altoona, PA. The mechanic reported that a connector rod went through the oil pan, engine block, and brake starter. He kept repeating to me "I've never seen anything like this before". He reached out to Hyundai to ask if they would cover repairs (starting at $13,790). Hyundai said no. I believe this incident was more than mechanical, and is related to the open recall. I attempted twice to have my car repaired under the recall but the dealership "didn't have the part".
On November 14, 2022 at approximately 0800 while traveling 495N in Massachusetts from Cape Cod my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with 109,000 miles experienced catastrophic engine failure. I was maintaining a speed of approximately 70 MPH when without waring the 3.3L V6 engine stalled and made loud clunking noises while smoke filled up the cabin of the vehicle causing me to cough and choke, my visibility was also diminished. I was fortunate enough to pull the vehicle to the right side of the highway and did cut someone off because I panicked and could not see almost causing a serious crash. The vehicle was then towed to a Hyundai dealership in Raynham, MA. The service advisors tried helping me with getting a new engine replacement from Hyundai Corporate, Corporate would not honor their demands and now I'm without a vehicle for myself to get to and from work and for my family so they can attend school, doctors appointments and social events.
With no warning lights, no unusual sounds coming from engine (knocking, or otherwise) - complete engine shutoff. Driving on highway at 55-60mph during acceleration. I was able to coast to the side. Unable to restart engine for about 30 minutes. Engine able to restart, then shutoff again a few minutes later at 45mph. There have been reports of unusually high motor oil consumption with the Theta 2 engine. There are no leaks, smells, smoke (from engine or exhaust) however, I must continuously add motor oil and check levels about every 100 miles. Oil level will reduce from max line to almost empty very quickly, maybe 1-3 weeks after refilling. All service maintenance is timely and done at authorized shops (Goodyear and Hyundai dealership). Dealership will perform oil consumption test to determine if eligible for powertrain warranty. Further research shows Hyundai denied many claims related to this issue.
Car engine failed at highway speeds in the middle of the road nearly causing an accident. Brought to hyundia dealeship who is refusing to pay for rental costs while engine is being replaced. Car only has 50,000 miles on it.
My 2017 Santa Fe's engine seized in 2019 at about 46K miles while I was going up a large hill. The entire vehicle began shaking, the oil light came on and then the vehicle lost power in bumper to bumper traffic. Fortunately a large truck behind me moved to act and nudged me up the rest of the hill with his truck so I could pull over safely. Hyundai replaced that engine after a few months and then replaced the turbo because they noticed that was failing even after engine replacement. This was prior to the class action lawsuits. My vehicle is now at about 64K miles with less than 15 on the new engine and turbo. In Fall of 2022, I got an oil change, took a quick short road trip later that day and on the way back with my family, the engine oil light came on. We pulled over and saw that the oil had mostly leaked out so we found a good Samaritan who helped get us oil to top it off so we could get home safely. I took it back to the oil change location the next day, thinking they had made a mistake and they advised the leak was due to my turbo failing. They took several pictures of the source of the leak and told me to get it to the dealer ASAP to prevent further leak, risk of fire or engine seizure. I towed the vehicle in.Hyundai advised it would be 6 weeks before they take a look at my vehicle. In addition, they offered no recourse or alternative transport while waiting for a determination despite the extended warranties that apply to my situation. They sent me a form to allow them to start the repair with no estimate attached and with a total waiver of my rights to join a class action suit but they haven't even looked at the vehicle. Not only am I worried about my safety, with a second engine failure, I am also worried they are sneaking in clauses to strip consumers of their rights.
From what I was told by the dealer my engine has failed / locked up due to the low bearings. I was put at risk because as I was driving at 45mph on a dry road and the vehicle acted as if I hit the brake and skid, luckily I was able to get to the side of the road and noticed lights on my dash, I tried to start the vehicle while parked and it sounded like marbles so I immediately turned it off. The vehicle is currently at the dealership, waiting for approval for repair. There were not any warning lights prior to this happening. My vehicle only has around 56,000 mile on it. I am aware of the open recall, I received 2 notices about it, but was never notified there was a remedy and to make an appointment. I don't think my recent issue has anything to do with the current open recall. I mentioned to the dealership I was aware of the open recall and I was told they would take care of it while working on my engine issue.
car was in shop for recall on wheel sensor ,next day the engine stopped working properly .ran really ruff and hesitated .took back to dealer and told 2 cylinders were not running correctly. i was told they would submit the Hyundai for engine replacement. Hyundai denied its under warranty or there problem ,when there is a history or engines failing in the 2017 year .class action lawsuits against them for it.
I purchased a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe June 2021 Upon completion of my oil change 12/1 I was told there was a oil leak and the oil wasn't going to stay in, I drove home under 20mph because my engine wouldn't allow me to go any faster. The next day it was towed to a Hyundai dealership close to home, Hyundai denied the first claim because they said it was the oil change companies fault. I then called the warranty company and the adjuster came out examined the car he found out that wasn't the case, it was internal damage cause by the manufacturer. Botls came loose that cracked something and metal chips got into my engine. My extended warranty denied covering it because it wasn't basic engine failure it was cause by the production of the vehicle and the faulty bolts that internally damage itself. I resubmitted the claim to Hyundai for repairs since we know now it wasnt outside negligence and the extended warranty company wasn't going to cover it. The advisor told me the second claim was denied as well , after speaking to the consumer affairs department myself they still denied having any part and the faulty engine. I'm in a Facebook community group and these people are going through this daily with Hyundai they are putting bad engines in cars once the original owner finds out they're trading them in and the second owner buys them in the car fails we aren't covered under the powertrain warranty because it only applies to the first owner. Hyundai is ripping people off and stealing our hard worked for money and getting away with it! They're picking and choosing who the engine failure class action lawsuit applies to even though we all have bad failed engines! I have been stuck making payments on a car for 3 months that I cannot drive and I owe $18,000 on a totaled car and they care nothing about goodwill and helping their customers who have spent thousands on their cars.
2017 Santa Fe Ultimate with 70,000 miles experienced known oil consumption problem which we monitored and topped off regularly. While driving at approx. 35 MPH, car went into limp mode. Towed (flat bed) to local garage where they confirmed metal shavings in the oil and suggested repairs based on computer diagnostic. Replaced timing chain and some other engine parts. Car driven approx. 100 miles after repairs when engine completely seized (again at low speed in neighborhood). Towed to local dealership for diagnostic on Oct 26, 2021. Dealer confirm engine was seized and needed to be replaced. They also indicated possible AWD differential damage but not able to confirm as car is not currently drivable. 10yr/100,000 powertrain warranty not honored as we were not the original owners. Hyundai offered to cover 65% of engine cost (good will offer), but we are required to pay at least $8,100 of the engine repairs (dealer verbal quote) plus any cost related to differential repairs needed. Est 3 months to complete engine replacement and stated zero warranty on the replacement engine. As of Jan 29, 2022 still no update from dealership as to when car will be available.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle stalled with no warning lights illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle had been stalling from the time of purchase when making a right or left turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

The engine is consuming oil. After 1500 miles since my last oil change the oil DOES NOT show up on the oil stick. I have bought 3 brand new Hyundai Santa Fe's and 1 used Sonata, and NEVER had problems, except for my 2017 Santa Fe Sport, which I purchased at Dondelinger Hyundai in Baxter, Minnesota. I have also had to replace the backup camera. I have been to this dealer 4 times with no resolve! Please help!!

I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND MY OIL LIGHT INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR AND WENT OFF AFTER I GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY PULLED OVER AT A GAS STATION. SO I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND AGAIN THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON SO I RECORDED IT ON MY CELL PHONE.I JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGED A WEEK PRIOR TO THIS. TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN MATTESON ILLINOIS WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM. AND GET ALL MY OIL CHANGES DONE ON THE VEHICLE. THEY CHECKED OUT MY VEHICLE AND SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T GET THE COMING ON WHEN THEY TOOK MY CAR ON A TEST DRIVE. SO I SHOW THE MECHANIC THE VIDEO I RECORDED ON MY PHONE. HE LOOKS AT THE VIDEO AND SAYS TO ME WELL IF THE OIL LIGHT COMES BACK ON BRING THE VEHICLE BACK. AND TELLS ME THE VEHICLE IS OK TO DRIVE AS IT IS. TWO DAYS LATER I'M RUNNING AN ARRON IN TRAFFIC ON A BUSY CITY STREET AND AS I'M DRIVING MY CAR STARTS JERKING AND STALLING AND A FLASHING ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD I PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CALLED HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT. BECAUSE I WAS CLOSE BY THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME TO DRIVE THE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SO I DID. THEY TOLD ME MY ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. FOR THE SECOND TIME MIND YOU. 1ST TIME WAS A YEAR PRIOR. SO THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A WEEK AND 2DAYS. GET MY CAR BACK A WEEK LATER I'M DRIVING ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THE FLASHING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. SO I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE KNOCK SENSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THIS TIME. THEY REPAIR IT THE SAME DAY. MEAN WHILE WAITING I FIND AN VIDEO ON YOU TUBE ABOUT THE VERY PROBLEM I WAS HAVING WITH MY VEHICLE. BUT IT'S FROM THE HYUNDAI MANUFACTURES ABOUT THE 2014-2018 SANTA FE ,SONATA AND TUSON VEHICLE ABOUT KNOWN MALFUNCTIONS AND PROBLEMS THESE VEHICLES ARE HAVING AND WOULD HAVE. SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THESE ARE NOT RECALLS. NOW AGAIN YESTERDAY 1/16/21

I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN 4 OR MORE TIMES BECAUSE THERE IS A SLIP IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE CAR IS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. THIS WAS BOUGHT IN 2017 WITH 150 MILES, THE FIRST OCCUPANCY HAPPENED WITHIN MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD MY ENGINE WAS SENSITIVE AND NOT TO LET OTHERS DRIVE IT, TURN OFF THE CAR, OR THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ERROR. I TOOK MY CAR IN IN NOVEMBER 2020 AND AFTER A FEW WEEKS IN THE SHOP, THEY WERE FINALLY ABLE TO 'FIND' THE ISSUE. I GOT MY CAR BACK WITH A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION, MID-DECEMBER. THE DRIVE HOME WAS OKAY, BUT SINCE THEN THE ISSUE OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY. COMING TO A STOP, THE RPMS JUMP, TURNING, THE RPMS JUMP. I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE 3/4 MILE DOWN THE ROAD WITHOUT MY CAR JERKING AND JOLTING. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE. SEVERAL CUSTOMERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME ISSUE IN THE PAST YEARS AND EVEN A LAWSUIT WAS BROUGHT UP, BUT THEN WAS DISMISSED. MY CAR VALUE HAS DROPPED ALMOST 50% BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I AM WITHOUT A CAR, STILL PAYING FOR MY LEASE, AND INSURANCE ON A CAR THAT DOES NOT SERVE ITS PROPER FUNCTION.

I HAVE HAD ON AT LEAST A HALF DOZEN TIMES WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE AFTER STOPPING, AND THEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. FOR EXAMPLE: LEAVING A PARKING LOT GOING ONTO A ROADWAY ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY TO GET UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT. ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT AT A FLASHING RED LEFT TURN LANE TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL ABOUT 10-20', BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE, LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ENGAGING. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE WILL REV TO 4000-5000RPMS. I WILL QUICKLY LET OFF OF THE THROTTLE, THEN IT WILL TAKE OFF. THE ENGINE DOES NOT REV EVERY TIME. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A MODULE ON THE TRANSMISSION APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, BUT IT DID NOT HELP. THEY HAD IT FOR ONE DAY IN JULY 2020, ATTEMPTING TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE WHERE THIS FAILURE TO ACCELERATE OCCURRED WAS 12/26/2020, WHERE UPON LEAVING A SERVICE STATION ONTO A FOUR LANE ROAD, IT ONCE AGAIN ROLLED TO 10-15 MPH, BUT WOULD NOT GO WHILE THE ENGINE RPMS WENT TO 4000. AS TRAFFIC WAS RAPIDLY APPROACHING I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE THROTTLE, AND IT FINALLY STARTED PICKING UP SPEED. THIS IS GETTING TO BE A DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO DRIVE.

DURING ACCELERATION FROM A STOP SIGN/RED LIGHT OR TURNING THE ENGINE HESITATES FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS AFTER SEVERAL TRIES BEFORE REACHING DESIRED SPEED. WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL ON FREEWAYS THERE IS A 10 TO 15 SECOND DELAY WHEN ACCELERATING OR PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH IN ONE INSTANCE CAUSED A NEAR ACCIDENT ON A HIGH SPEED FREEWAY. MY VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN CAUSING OTHER VEHICLES GO AROUND ME PASSING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE LANE. THESE HESITATIONS HAVE CAUSED ME SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS AND MAKES ME NOT FEEL CONFIDENT WHEN DRIVING THIS CAR. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MANY OCCASIONS AND THEY REPORT NO ERROR CODES SHOW UP AND, THE MECHANIC CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION EARLIER THIS YEAR. THERE HAS BEEN NO IMPROVEMENT. I HAVE REVIEWED MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS HESITATION PROBLEM. WILL IT TAKE DEATH REPORTS TO HELP US OWNERS? MY ISSUE BEGAN IN 2018 RIGHT AFTER PURCHASE AND THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING MORE OFTEN NOW. NO HELP IS IN SIGHT WHEN HYUNDAI AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO ADMIT THE PROBLEM AND MAKES ME AND OTHER OWNERS FEEL LIKE WE DON'T KNOW OUR VEHICLES OR OUR OWN MINDS!! WE NEED HELP BEFORE A DEATH OCCURS NOT AFTER!!
THIS VEHICLE HAS A INTERMITTENT ACCELERATION PROBLEM WHICH CAUSES A DELAY IN THE VEHICLE MOVEMENT. THE DEALER STATED THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM HOWEVER THE ISSUE DOES EXIST. MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS I READ ON LINE.

MY 2018 HYUNDAI SANTE FE WAS PURCHASE 'CERTIFIED' USED FROM PUENTE HILLS HYUNDAI IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. ABOUT A YEAR INTO OWNING MY CAR IT BEGAN TO JERK AND FELT LIKE I WENT OVER A HARD BUMP WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND THEN BEGAN DOING IT WHILE I WOULD DRIVE UP HILLS. PUENTE HILLS HYUNDAI INFORMED ME THERE WAS A RECALL AND THAT THE RECALL WOULD 'SOLVE' THE ISSUE. AFTER I GOT MY CAR BACK, A FEW WEEKS LATER IT STARTED AGAIN. BUT HAPPENED LESS OFTEN THEN BEFORE. I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR IN AND WAS TOLD THAT PUENTE HILLS HYUNDAI WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE JERKING AND WOULD CALL THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY TO HAVE THEM COME CONFIRM THE ISSUE. WHEN THE WARRANTY COMPANY FINALLY CAME OUT, THEY UNSUCCESSFULLY RECREATING THE JERKING SOUND AND TOLD HYUNDAI MY CAR IS 'SAFE' TO DRIVE AND NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. HYUNDAI TRIED TO TELL ME TO TAKE THE CAR BACK SINCE THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO FIX THE ISSUE SINCE THE WARRANTY COMPANY SAID IT WAS 'SAFE'. I REFUSED TO TAKE IT BACK DUE MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY UNBORN CHILD AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD KEEP IT AGAIN TO SEE IF THEY CAN RECREATE THE JERKING AND THEN CONTACT HYUNDAI DIRECTLY TO SEE IF THEY'LL COME CHECK IT OUT. BUT WASN'T GUARANTEED THAT THEY WOULD FIX AND OR BE ABLE TO SOLVE THE ISSUE. I HAVE CHECKED ONLINE AND SEEN THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE OWNING THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND HAVE COMPLAINED TO YOU GUYS AND WAS HOPING THAT MY COMPLAINT WILL BE HONORED MORE THAN IT HAS BEEN AT THIS DEALERSHIP. THE JERKING MOTION HAPPENED WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY, ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN, DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, GOING UP HILL, OR BACKING OUT OF A PARKING STOP AND MOVING BACK INTO DRIVE.

ON THE INTERSTATE, PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES. RPM WENT UP TO 5000 BUT SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION INTO SPORTS MODE AND DOWNSHIFTING AND UPSHIFTING MADE NO DIFFERENCE IN THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. SPEED REMAINED THE SAME, ENGINE ROARED AS IF IN NEUTRAL. I PULLED OFF THE INTERSTATE, CUT OFF THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, RETURNED TO THE INTERSTATE AND COULD ACCELERATE. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN 2017 AND 2018 BOTH ON THE HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS. IN 2018, TAKEN TO PEARSON HYUNDAI AND COULD NOT BE FIXED BECAUSE NO ERROR CODES. AFTER A DANGEROUS, IDENTICAL INCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE IN MAY 2019, TAKEN TO PEARSON HYUNDAI. THEY PERFORMED A TCU AND ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE MAY 21, 2019. THIS LATEST INCIDENT IS A REPEAT OF THE MAY 2019 PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE BUT OCCURS ON BOTH HIGHWAY AND STREET SPEEDS. THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WE ALSO OWN A 2016 SANTA FE SPORT TURBO AWD THAT HAS NOT HAD ANY OF THESE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. CHANGES WERE MADE IN THE 2017 MODEL YEAR TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION THAT ARE IMPACTING ACCELERATION.

THERE HAS BEEN SOME ENGINE NOISE FOR 2 MONTHS OR SO. . I THEN HAD AN OIL LEAK AND THE DEALER SAID THAT THE ENGINE NOISE WAS FROM CRANKSHAFT AND MAYBE A BEARING INSIDE. I HAVE 74, 000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND HAVE A 10 YEAR 125000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS AT THE DEALER TODAY AND THEY GAVE ME THE NEWS ABOUT MAYBE CRANKSHAFT BEARING. THE HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY HAS A RECALL ON YOUR SITE ABOUT 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE HAVING DEFECT IN A PIN IN THE CRANKSHAFT THAT WEARS THE BEARING. THIS SEEMS LIKE EXACTLY WHAT DEALER IS TELLING ME. MY QUESTION IS , THE RECALL SAYS THAT HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY RECALLED 420 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE'S THAT WERE PRODUCED BETWEEN JANUARY 26 2017 AND FEBRUARY 13 2017. MY SANTA FE WAS ACTUALLY PRODUCED ON JANUARY 14 2017, WHICH IS ONLY 12 DAYS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE OFFICIAL RECALL PRODUCTION DATE OF JANUARY 26. HOW DOES HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY KNOW THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PRODUCED WITH THIS FAULTY PIN IN THE CRANKSHAFT THAT CAUSES BEARING FAILURE? THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS WEBSITE AND I HOPE SOMEONE CAN ENLIGHTEN ME AS TO WHAT I MAY BE ABLE TO DO RIGHT NOW.

I PURCHASED A USED 2017 SANTA FE AWD ON 11/06/2019. THE CAR FAILED TO START ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT AT A GAS STATION -- THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. IT STARTED ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT, THE CAR DROVE SMOOTHLY TO THE DMV FOR REGISTRATION. ABOUT 1-2 HOURS OF DRIVING, THE CAR STALLED IN TOWN DESPITE ACCELERATING WITH RPMS GREATER 3. THE CAR BECAME RESPONSIVE ONLY AFTER STOPPING AND RESTARTING AT THE CURB. I NOTICED A STEADY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER THE INCIDENT AND HAVE BEEN HAVING A JERKY RIDE EXPERIENCE EVER SINCE. A CALL TO BLUELINK CONFIRMED THAT THE CAR REQUIRES A THOROUGH SYSTEM CHECK INVOLVING THE POWER TRAIN AT THE DEALERSHIP. AN APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN FOR 12/4/2019 AND THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED.
ON MARCH , 19 2019 AROUND 5:00AM I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK LIKE NORMAL. AS I WAS GETTING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. I HAD NO POWER STEERING BUT I COASTED TO A STOP IN THE RIGHT LANE OF FREEWAY TURNED MY CAR BACK ON AND DROVE ABOUT 500 FEET AND THE SAME THING HAPPEN BUT THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. THERE IS A FEW SECONDS OF HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AT TIMES. FROM A DEAD STOP OR A SLOW ROLL WHEN TURNING, THE CAR WILL MOVE IN SLOW MOTION ONLY AND THE ANTI SLIP INDICATOR COMES ON LIKE YOU ARE ON A SLIPPERY SURFACE EVEN WHEN IT'S DRY. THEN IT ACCELERATES SUDDENLY. WE HAVE COME CLOSE TO HAVING SEVERAL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS. WE HAVE TAKEN OUR VEHICLE IN OVER 5 TIMES AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AT TWO DEALERSHIPS SAY THEY CANNOT REPLICATE IT AND BRUSH US OFF. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.

I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN ON TO A STREET GOING UPHILL AND MY 2017 HYUNDAI SANTE FE SPORT AWD ULTIMATE HESITATED FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS. WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS I COULD NOT GET SPEED. MY TRACTION LIGHTS BLINKED ON AND OFF. I HAD TO FLOOR THE GAS TO GAIN SPEED. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I COULD HAVE BEEN T- BONED OR HIT FROM BEHIND IF THERE WAS TRAFFIC ON THE STREET.

WHILE I AM DRIVING AND MY CAR IS CHANGING GEARS, IT DOES FINE UNTIL ITS IN FOURTH GEAR. THE RPM WILL GO TO ABOUT 2,800 UNTIL IT CHANGES TO FIFTH GEAR. ONVE ITS IN 5TH GEAR THE RPM WILL GO INTO A "NEUTRAL" STATE AND REV FROM 4,700 RPM TO 5,700 WITHOUT ANY ACCELERATION. THIS HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING UP A FREEWAY ENTRANCE . I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3X NOW AND ALL THEY KEEP SAYING IS THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS AN UPDATE. AND THE ADAPTIVE VALUES NEED TO BE RE- LEARNED. I HAVE NOW HAD MY TRANSMISSION FLUID FILLED ONCE AND THEN I PAID TO GET A TRANNY FLUSH. AND ADADPTIVE VALUES RESET TWICE. NOTHING HAS CHANGED. I HAVE 38,000 MILES AND THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT THE LAST 15,000 MILES.
I PARKED MY CAR PARALLEL TO THE CURB ON A CITY STREET. I MOVED THE SHIFTER FROM "DRIVE" TO "PARK". I DID NOT TURN OFF THE ENGINE BECAUSE I WAS ONLY GOING TO GET OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS TO OPEN THE DOOR BEHIND ME TO LET SOME SENIOR CITIZENS TO GET IN THE CAR. I RELEASED MY SEAT BELT BUCKLE AND PROCEED TO OPEN THE DRIVER-SIDE CAR DOOR. AS SOON AS MY FEET WERE ON THE GROUND AND MY BODY WAS OUTSIDE OF THE CAR, THE CAR STARTED TO MOVE IN REVERSE DIRECTION. THE CAR WAS MOVING FAIRLY QUICKLY BECAUSE WITHIN A SPLIT SECOND, I WAS KNOCKED TO THE GROUND BY THE CAR DOOR WITH THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL ON TOP OF MY LEFT FOOT. THE WHEEL PROCEEDED TO ROLL OVER MY LEFT ANKLE, LEG, THIGH, HIP, ABDOMEN, CHEST, AND FINALLY MY RIGHT UPPER ARM AND SHOULDER JOINT. THE CAR CONTINUED TO TRAVEL IN REVERSE BY JUMPING THE CURB ONTO THE SIDE WALK AND FINALLY STOPPED BY HEAVY BUSHES IN FRONT OF A BUILDING. UPON INSPECTION, THE SHIFTER HAD SLIPPED INTO THE "REVERSE" POSITION. BASED ON THE GRADIENT OF THE ROAD SERVICE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE REMOVAL OF MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY ALLOWED THE CAR TO MOVE BACKWARD HAD THE SHIFTER WAS IN REVERSE WHICH WOULD MAKE EXITING MY WHOLE BODY OUT OF THE CAR WITHOUT NOTICING CAR MOVEMENT VERY UNLIKELY IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, PARTICULARLY FOR A 72 YEAR OLD MALE WHO IS RECOVERING FROM AN OPEN HEART SURGERY AND TWO BRAIN SURGERIES. THE SHIFTING MECHANISM AND THE ASSOCIATED CONTROL MUST BE FAULTY RESULTING IN THE "FALSE PARK" POSITION.

MY 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING. CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN AVOIDING TRAFFIC OR MOVING THROUGH TRAFFIC.

I HAD MY CAR FOR 12 MONTHS I BOUGHT BRAN NEW. IT HAS STALED AND TURN OFF ON ME AT LEAST 5 TIMES. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAY THE CAR LOSES POWER AND STOPS.THAN BEFORE IT STOPS MAKES A KNOCKING NOISE.
Mileage: 12,000
WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT FROM A STOP OR LOW SPEED (<10 MPH) ON A PAVED CITY STREET, INTERMITTENTLY THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND TO MY GAS PEDAL. I CAN HAVE THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. ONLY AFTER 1.5 TO 2.0 SECONDS WILL THE CAR REACT, AND WHEN IT DOES, IT IS VIOLENTLY FAST. THIS CAUSES ISSUES WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS STALLING FOR ALMOST 2 SECONDS BEFORE THE CAR BEGINS TO MOVE FORWARD (VIOLENTLY).
Mileage: 10,000
SEVERE HESITATION WHEN COMING OUT OF A SHARP TURN. ALSO HAPPENS UPON ACCELERATION AFTER A TRAFFIC LIGHT. HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AS TIME GOES ON CURRENTLY 13K MILES ON VEHICLE. HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY DRIVING TRIP BUT PUT TODAYS DATE ON IT AS IT HAPPENED LAST TODAY 8/1/18.

FAILURE TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP POSITION. PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE OFF RAMP. CAME TO A STOP THEN TRIED TO TURN LEFT. VEHICLE BARELY MOVED AND HAD TO ACCELERATE TO OVER 2500 RPM AND SEVERAL SECONDS LATER TO GET THE VEHICLE BARELY MOVING. PULLED OFF THE ROAD, PUT THE VEHICLE INTO MANUAL SHIFT MODE TO FIND THE TRANSMISSION IS LOCKED INTO 4TH GEAR AND CANNOT BE DOWNSHIFTED TO 1ST. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO BE LOCKED INTO 4TH GEAR AFTER EACH STOP. TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING TEMPORARILY CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. POTENTIAL MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. VEHICLE NOW WITH DEALER TO RESOLVE

VEHICLE HAS INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUES SIMILAR TO A LOW OR DEAD BATTERY. WILL ONLY START WHEN IT WANTS. USUALLY HAPPENS AT FIRST START OF THE DAY OR LATE AFTERNOON. PUTTING VEHICLE IN DRIVE IS HARDER THAN NORMAL. TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFTS HAVE HARD JERKING FEEL.

2017 HYUNDAI SANTE FE SE, WHEN FIRST PURCHASED I FELT HESITATION, ACCORDING TO DEALER THEY WAS A UPDATE FOR THE COMPUTER, I TOOK IT IN FOR UPDATE WHICH ACTUALLY DID NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. AT TIMES WHEN GETTING IN VEHICLE TO DRIVE OFF AND PUT IN GEAR IT WOULD NOT MOVE. TOOK TO DEALER FOR SERVICE TECH DROVE CAR HOME AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUES. AFTER THAT I STOPPED USING VEHICLE. I SENT HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS A COMPLAINT AND THEY BRUSHED IT OFF. SINCE I DIDNT BUY THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER I TOOK FOR SERVICE THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME A LONER. SUSPENSION HAS A DEFECT CHANGED TIRES AT 15000 MILES DUE TO HUMMING FROM REAR, HAD VEHICLE ALIGNED AND NEW TIRES 6 MONTHS LATER TIRES ARE WORN HYUNDAI HAS SUSPENSION ISSUES. LAST, SO FAR IS ENGINE KNOCKS WHEN STARTING VEHICLE. ITS A SHAME THAT WE HAVE TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON VEHICLE THAT DONT SERVE OUR NEEDS AND HYUNDAI DOES NOT CARE BUT TO HAVE THERE PAYMENTS ON TIME. I CONTACTED MY ATTORNEY, PLANNING TO DROP OFF AT DEALER AND RETURN TO HYUNDAI SO THE FINANCE COMPANY CAN TAKE IT BACK EITHER I GET MY ISSUES FIXED JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE SHOULD OR I STOP PAYING AND TAKE IT BACK. IF YOU ANYBODY THAT IS INTERESTED IN BUYING A HYUNDAI VEHICLE LIKE OURS SEND THEM ELSEWHERE.

ACCELERATION ISSUES. ON AT LEAST TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, ACCELERATION FROM A STOP RESULTED IN THE CAR STAYING AT THE SAME SPEED. HAD TO REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL AND REAPPLY SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT MOVING. NORMALLY, APPLYING THROTTLE PUSHES INDIVIDUALS BACK ON THEIR SEATS. CAR WAS TAKEN TO LAUREL HYUNDAI AND PER THE TECHS "UNABLE TO REPLICATE CUSTOMERS CONCERN ON ROAD TEST, NO CODES STORED OR PRESENT IN SYSTEM, NO TAB'S FOR CONCERN FOUND". LOOKING AT GETTING RID OF THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.

UPON MOVING AFTER COMPLETE STOP AND TURNING VEHICLE TO RIGHT OR LEFT, THERE IS HESITATION BEFORE THERE IS THROTTLE RESPONSE. IT OCCURS MORE OFTEN IF WHILE INITIALLY MAKING A TURN AND ANY SIZE BUMP OR POTHOLE IS ENCOUNTERED. A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE AN AVOIDANCE MANEUVER IF NECESSARY SINCE THERE IS NO IMMEDIATE THROTTLE RESPONSE. THE SAME SITUATION OCCURS WHEN AT SLOW SPEEDS A POTHOLE OR BUMP IS ENCOUNTERED DURING A TURN. AGAIN, DANGEROUS, BECAUSE WITHOUT A RESPONSIVE THROTTLE NO AVOIDANCE MANEUVER IS POSSIBLE. N.B. I PUT TODAY'S DATE BECAUSE THE "FIELD IS REQUIRED". IT OCCURS ON A DAILY BASIS, NONETHELESS.

THE SANTA FE SPORT WAS PURCHASED IN JULY OF 2017. WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A REDLIGHT OR WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY MOMENTUM ON THE ROAD, THE ACCELERATION DROPS SIGNIFICANTLY AND THE RPMS BEGIN TO REV UP HIGH, BOUNCING UP AND DOWN, BUT THE SANTA FE SPORT WILL STALL. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ISSUE CONTINUES AND PANIC SENTS IN DUE TO THE CARS BEHIND US CAN REAR END THE SANTA FE SPORT. NO MATTER HOW FAR OR HARD THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED THE SANTA FE SPORT WILL STALL. ALL WHILE NO "ENGINE LIGHT" TURNS ON. TOOK THE SANTA FE SPORT FOR SERVICE TO THE DEALER OVER 6 TIMES BETWEEN 2017 AND 2018 AND ONLY AN EMS PART WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES MOSTLY IN VERY BAD TRAFFIC, AGAIN VERY CONCERNING FOR SAFETY. THE SANTA FE SPORT NEEDS TO BE TURNED OFF AND BACK ON IN ORDER FOR THE PROBLEM TO CEASE. NO MATTER WHAT DRIVE MODE IT IS IN (ECO; SPORT; NORMAL) THE ISSUE PERSISTS. WE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2017 SANTA FE SPORT RIGHT OFF THE LOT WHICH HAS BEEN PAID FOR AND IT IS UNFAIR THAT WE ARE STILL PAYING WHAT SEEMS LIKE OUR LIVES WE CONTINUE TO SPEND MORE WITH GAS, TOLLS, TRAVEL AND TIME FROM WORK TO TAKE THE SANTA FE SPORT IN FOR SERVICE AND WE DO NOT GET REFUNDED FOR THIS.

9/18/17 WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE MOVED SLOW AS IF TO NOT WANT TO SHIFT. I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND WHEN I RE STARTED A FEW MINUETS LATER THE LIGHT WENT OUT AND VEHICLE OPERATED WITHOUT OUT PROBLEM. I MADE APPOINTMENT WITH DEALERSHIP FOR 9/26/17. THEY DID SOME RECALL ITEMS AND I MENTIONED THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD IF THE LIGHT IS OUT IT MAY NOT SHOW UP. THE FAILED TO NOT ON SERVICE ORDER THIS ISSUE. ON 10/24/17 WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 50 MILES FROM HOME THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT NOTIFIED ME ON THE RADIO SCREEN TO CONTACT BLUE LINK AS THERE WAS A POSSIBLE CONDITION WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I CONTACTED BLUE LINK AND THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 10/27/17 AT 8 AM AT THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER 6 HOURS WAITING ON HYUNDAI TECH SUPPORT TO GET BACK WITH THEM TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS. LAST 3 MONTHS VEHICLE MONTHLY REPORT ON VEHICLE SHOWS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. THEY CLAIM THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES.10/24/17

I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED ULTIMATE ON MAY 5 OF THIS YEAR, AND NOTICED A VERY HESITATION DURING THE DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I FIGURED IT WAS THE RESULT OF THE ENGINE BREAKING IN AND THAT I SHOULD JUST BE PATIENT. HOWEVER, IT CONTINUED...AND PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE. SPECIFICALLY, IT'S MOST PRONOUNCED WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A DEAD STOP, ACCELERATE OUT OF A ROLLING STOP, ACCELERATE OUT OF A LEFT TURN, OR TRY TO MAKE A QUICK PASSING OR MERGING MANEUVER ON THE FREEWAY. IN ALL OF THESE CONDITIONS, THERE IS A 2 TO 3 SECOND DELAY BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION WILL SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFT AND THE VEHICLE WILL BLAST OFF. THIS IS REALLY DANGEROUS, BECAUSE I'VE HAD NEARLY A DOZEN INSTANCES OF BEING NEARLY REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WON'T ACCELERATE QUICKLY ENOUGH. THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE IT IS TO SAY THAT IT'S LIKE TRYING TO ACCELERATE WITH A DIRTY, SEVERELY CLOGGED, 10-YEAR-OLD ENGINE AIR FILTER, AND THE INTAKE CAN'T GET ENOUGH AIR INTO THE ENGINE TO ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD. I'VE BEEN TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND IN EVERY INSTANCE WE'RE TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNTIL HYUNDAI RELEASES AN UPDATE OR A RECALL. BUT IN THE MEANTIME, I GUESS I'M SUPPOSED TO CONTINUE PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH MY LIFE. I'M AT NEARLY 9,000 MILES AND THE HESITATION IS STILL AS PRONOUNCED AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING. I'M TRYING REALLY HARD TO BE PATIENT AND NOT KEEP COMPLAINING TO OUR LOCAL SERVICE CENTER...BUT WE'VE HAD QUITE A FEW CLOSE CALLS, EXTREMELY CLOSE, AND I'M REALLY HOPING THAT HYUNDAI WILL PLEASE FIX THIS SOON! IN FACT, I JUST READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT HYUNDAI REPLACING THE ENGINES IN THE '17 SANTA FE'S BECAUSE OF A MANUFACTURING ISSUE WITH THE CRANKSHAFT PIN CAUSING THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS I'VE EXPERIENCED. SO I HOPE THAT I CAN PLEASE GET MY VEHICLE REPAIRED BEFORE I END UP IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. THANKS!!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE GEAR IN PARK, THE GEAR AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE MOVED BACKWARDS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS STANDING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WITH THE PASSENGER DOOR OPEN. THE CONTACT JUMPED INTO THE VEHICLE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE PARKING LOT. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,300.

2017 HYUNDAI SANTE FE SPORT AWD - PURCHASED IN OCT 2017. CURRENTLY HAVE 7525 MILES ON VEHICLE. I NOTICED ACCELERATION HESITATION IMMEDIATELY AFTER MAKING IN CITY TURNS (FROM BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTION TURNS) AS WELL AS WHEN GETTING ON HIGHWAY (IN MOTION). I AM RETIRED AND DO NOT DRIVE SANTE FE VERY OFTEN. THE PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION AFTER MAKING STATIONARY AND IN MOTION TURNS AND GETTING ON HIGHWAY HAS ALWAYS BEEN PRESENT SINCE DAY OF PURCHASE. I HAVE NOTICED THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE PREVALENT AFTER TAKING A 1000 MILE ROAD TRIP THIS PAST AUGUST. THE ACCELERATION/ HESITATION AFTER TURNING IS MORE NOTICEABLE AND IS BECOMING CONCERNING BECAUSE I HAVE TO PRESS PETAL TO FLOOR TO GET THE SANTE FE TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY TO GET OUT OF WAY OF ON COMING TRAFFIC. HESITATIONS/ACCELERATION PROBLEMS OCCURS AFTER TURNING AND WHEN ENTERING A FREEWAY. VERY POOR ENGINE PERFORMANCE GIVEN THE VEHICLE COST OF $35,000. I OWNED A 2011 HYUNDAI SONTA FOR 6 YEARS AND HAD THE SAME 2.4L ENGINE AND I NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY ENGINE HESITATION LIKE I AM NOW WITH THE 2017 HYUNDAI SANTE FE SPORT AWD.
HAD THIS SANTA FE FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL INSTANCES OF NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE, OR GAIN SPEED, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING OR STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, IT HESITATES TO START TO THE POINT OF ALMOST BEING HIT SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER MANY TIMES, AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME ITS THE WAY I AM DRIVING IT THAT THE ENGINE IS LIKE A STANDARD VEHICLE, BUT THAT DOESNT SEEM SAFE TO ME IF I AM TRYING TO START DRIVING AND IT WONT GO. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY DECIDE TO GO, IT TAKES OFF WAY TOO FAST AND IS LIKE, IT FINALLY DECIDES TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. ALSO WHILE IN PARK, ENGINE REVS TO 2500RPM FOR NO REASON OR IDOLS AT THAT RPM. IT FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE IS PULLING THE CAR FORWARD EVEN WHEN IT IS IN PARK I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND SO MANY TIMES, I AM TIRED OF IT. I'M NOT HAPPY TO SEE OTHERS HAVE THIS ISSUE, BUT I AM ALSO GLAD THAT OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS.
Mileage: 20,000
MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE THE RPMS WILL GO UP AND THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. WHEN IT FINALLY GOES THE CAR WILL JERK AND THE RPMS FALL. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOSS OF POWER WHEN THIS HAPPENS. ALSO SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN MAKING LEFT HAND TURNS ACROSS TRAFFIC, WHICH CAN BECOME DANGEROUS WITH ONCOMING CARS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE.
Mileage: 17,500
AT STOP WHEN TURNING RIGHT ARE LEFT AND ACCELERATING THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO RESPOND AD THE CAR STALLS THEN WILL GO. IF SLOW TO SLOW SPEED AND ACCELERATED THE CAR WILL STALL BEFORE SHIFTING DOWN. THIS PROBLEM IS A SAFETY HAZARD. TOOK IT TO HYUANDI DEALER AT 3000 MILES WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL.
SEVERE HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AND HAPPENS WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT. MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN IF ROAD SURFACE IS ROUGH THAT VEHICLE IS TURNING ONTO. THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AND THEN LOSE ACCELERATION. ALTHOUGH PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR DOES NOT SPEED UP EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE REVS UP. AFTER ABOUT 3 OR 4 SECONDS THE VEHICLE THEN RESPONDS AND BEGINS TO ACCELERATE. THIS SITUATION DOES NOT OCCUR ALL THE TIME. IT MAY OCCUR 3 OR 4 TIMES IN A WEEK. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND AS A RESULT OF THE VEHICLE NOT ACCELERATING.
Mileage: 400
HAVE OWNED VEHICLE SINCE 12/16. APPROX 6 TIMES THERE HAS BEEN AN ACCELERATION PROBLEM WHEN CHANGING LANES OR TURNING. HAVE PUSHED THE GAS AND NOTHING HAPPENED - ENGINE DOES NOT REV OR RESPOND IN ANY WAY TO THE PRESSING OF THE GAS PEDAL. ITS LIKE THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL AND THEN IT WILL JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN RE-ENGAGE. NO WARNING LIGHTS; NO INDICATION WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. FILED COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND/OR WILL NOT ASSIST UNTIL THEY CAN. DEALER HAD CAR FOR TWO WEEKS AND COULD NOT RECREATE SO HYUNDAI CLOSED OUR COMPLAINT. THE DATE ENTERED BELOW IS THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED.
HESITATION WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC--HAIR RAISING EXPERIENCE--THERE IS A 3 TO 4 SECOND STOP IN THE IN THE DRIVE TRAIN--THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS GONE-LEAVING ONE IN A PANIC MODE--ALSO FEATHERING THE THROTTLE AT TIMES THERE IS NO RESPONSE--TOOK SUV TO DEALER--THEY HOOKED UP A MONITOR AND WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER ON BOARD--- THE VEHCLE DID NOT RESPOND WHEN ACCELERATING--I AM TOLD DUE TO THE INFORMATION SENT BACK THROUGH MONITORING TO THE FACTORY THAT THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT ASK FOR A BUY BACK--MY QUESTION IS HOW CAN A CO KEEP MAKING AND SELLING A UNIT THAT IS DEFECTIVE ?--THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT MORE SIMILAR CASES ON LINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS--I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ON ROAD--LIFE THREATENING--IF THE DEALERSHIP OR CO. MY WIFE AND I HAVE HAD THE SAME INTERMITTENT PROBLEM SINCE ACQUIRING OUR 2017 SANTA FE BRAND NEW IN THE LATE SPRING OF 2016. WHEN TURNING FROM A STOP OR MAKING A VERY LOW SPEED TURN, AND THEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AND HESITATE, NOT MOVING OR "CATCHING" FOR 1-2 SECONDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US APPROXIMATELY 6-8 TIMES. AND I'VE NEARLY BEEN REAR-ENDED ON SEVERAL OF THOSE OCCASIONS BECAUSE I WAS STALLED IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, ALSO TRYING TO MAKE THE TURN . ONCE I BARELY CLEARED THE INTERSECTION AT A LIGHT WHEN TURNING LEFT, HAVING THE SANTA FE STALL IN THE FACE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS NEARLY BROADSIDED BY SWIFT MOVING, ONCOMING TRAFFIC. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT FULLY ADDRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE PUBLIC NEEDS PROTECTION AND A REMEDY. I CAN'T IMAGINE HYUNDAI IS UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I DID A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH ON THE TOPIC, AND FOUND MANY, MANY POSTINGS REGARDING THIS EXACT SAME SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES. THERE WERE HYUNDAI MESSAGE BOARD COMPLAINTS, NHTSA COMPLAINTS, "LEMON" LAW FIRMS WHOA ARE ADVERTISING, SEEKING POTENTIAL 2017 SANTA FE OWNING CLIENTS, CITING THIS EXACT SET OF FACTS. IT'S DIFFICULT TO CONFIRM EXACT DATES, AS THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MOST RECENT TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN EARLY MAY 2017, AT AN INTERSECTION LESS THAN A MILE FROM OUR HOME, MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A STOP, WITH TRAFFIC LINED UP BEHIND US.
Mileage: 9,800
THE VEHICLE FAILS TO ACCELERATE PAST THE INITIAL PRESS OF THE ACCELERATOR FROM A STOP LEAVING YOU COMMITTED IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT POWER FOR AROUND 2 SECONDS. STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR FAILS TO PRODUCE ANY POWER. JUST HAD THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT BY HYUNDAI WHO SAID THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG. HYUNDAI ALSO SAID THERE ARE NO BULLETINS OR RECALLS. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWS AN ALARMING AMOUNT OF CHATTER FROM OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THERE IS UNDER 6000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, INTERMITTENTLY.
Mileage: 5,700
2017 SANTA FE SPORT WITH TURBO.WHEN TURNING LEFT INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STOP OR NEAR STOP, THE ACCELERATION STUDDERS OR DOESN'T RESPOND, IT ACTS AS THOUGH IT ISN'T ENGAGING THE GEARS IN THE TRANSMISSION. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO ENTER TRAFFIC, YOU START TO ROLL, LIKE YOU ARE RELEASING A CLUTCH IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, BUT IT DOESN'T ACCELERATE UNTIL YOU ARE COMMITTED TO THE TURN. I NOTICED ONE TIME THAT THE ANTI-SKID TRACTION INDICATOR FLASHED, BUT I HAVEN'T LOOKED EACH TIME. I HAVEN'T NOTICED THE DELAY GOING RIGHT, BUT LEFT IT HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY TIME. WE HAVE COME CLOSE TO BEING HIT TWICE NOW. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT WE BOUGHT IT AT AND THEY SAID THAT IT COULD BE THE ADAPTIVE LEARNING THAT NEEDS TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE LEARNS FROM THE DRIVER AND RESETTING IT WOULD CAUSE IT TO LEARN OVER AGAIN. WE HAVE AN APPT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND DUPLICATE FOR THEM.

2017 SANTA FE ULTIMATE 2.0T. CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE AND LAGS. HAPPENS AT A LOWER SPEED AND FROM A STOP. VERY SCARY WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN AND ENTERING FREEWAY.DEPRESSING ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENS FOR A SECOND OR MORE, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT TAKES OFF. AT LOW SPEED IN PARKING LOT DEPRESS ACCELERATOR LIGHTLY AND CAR TAKES OFF. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP CAR WILL ACCELERATE QUICKLY WHILE DEPRESSING PEDAL GENTLY. DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME BUT IS FREQUENT ENOUGH TO BE CONCERNED. HAS HAPPENED SINCE NEW.
SOMETIMES, WHEN I PRESS THE GAS TO ACCELERATE, MY CAR DOES NOT GO. IT WILL MOVE FORWARD AT A SLOW PACE BUT THEN DOESN'T GO AS FAST AS I'M PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, EVEN THOUGH MY RPMS ARE INCREASING. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR DOES NOT PERFORM AS IT SHOULD. HAPPENED TODAY FOR PROBABLY THE 10TH TIME SINCE I'VE HAD THE CAR, LESS THAN A MONTH. PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO THE STREET, MY CAR MOVE'S FORWARD VERY SLOWLY THEN WHEN I GO TO INCREASE MY SPEED THE CAR DOESN'T GO FASTER.
Mileage: 980
WHEN MAKING A RIGHT, LEFT, OR U TURN THE POWER COMPLETELY CUTS OUT AND THE CAR IS LEFT DRIFTING WITHOUT POWER. THEIR IS NO RESPONSE TO PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDDLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. AT THE SAME TIME ON THE DASH THE ORANGE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. THIS LAST FOR A NUMBER OF SECONDS AND THEN THE ENGINE STARTS TO ONCE AGAIN RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDDLE. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO ME AND MY WIFE12 TIMES SINCE WE PURCHASED THE CAR 3-1/2 MONTHS AGO. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS FROM A STANDING START AND A ROLLING YIELD OR U TURN. THE PROBLEM HAS ALWAYS OCCURRED ON A PAVED PUBLIC, CITY/COUNTY, STREET I HAVE HAD THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS, ONE SEVERAL TIMES, AND BOTH TELL ME THAT THEIR ARE "NO CODES SHOWING" SO THAT THEIR IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THE FRIGHT OF LOOSING POWER WHILE YOU'RE IN THE PROCESS OF A RIGHT OR LEFT HAND TURN WITH TRAFFIC COMING AT YOU FROM ONE OR BOTH SIDES TO APPRECIATE HOW TRULY DANGEROUS THIS CAR IS. THIS IS OUR 4TH OR 5TH SANTA FE, UP TO NOW ALL OF THEM HAVE BEEN GREAT BUT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS NEW CAR WE HAVE NOW.

CAR HESITATES TO ACCELERATE FROM A COMPLETE STOP, ACCELERATING WHILE COMING OUT OF TURN, OR SLOWING DOWN AND ACCELERATING AGAIN. ALSO SEEMS TO BE USING A LOT OF GAS. HAVEN'T CALCULATED IT YET BUT CAN SEE THE FUEL GAUGE LOWER AS I'M DRIVING. CAR ONLY HAS 17000 MILES.

2017 STA FE 7 SEATER:WHEN GOING TO A SLOW SPEED TO ALMOST COMPLETE STOP THEN TRY TO TURN RIGHT FROM THE INTERSECTION,THE SUV CAN'T FIND THE RIGHT GEAR FOR FEW SECONDS THEN LOUNGES ABRUPTLY THAT JOLT YOUR BODY FORWARD AND BACK FROM YOUR SEAT.IT SHIFT BEAUTIFULLY WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT OR FROM STRAIGHT LINE.IT FEELS VERY WEIRD AND DANGEROUS THAT YOU MIGHT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU OR YOU MIGHT BE HIT FROM BEHIND.I HOPE THAT YOUR GOOD OFFICE WILL INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE ANY ACCIDENT HAPPENS.IT MAKES ME NERVOUS EVERY TIME I MAKE A RIGHT TURN.
MY BRAND NEW 2017 SANTA FE LIMITED HESITATES BADLY WHEN COMING OUT OF TURNS AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE...JUST SHORT OF COMING TO A STOP. IT IS VERY PRONOUNCED WHEN IN ECO MODE, BUT IS AN ISSUE TO A LESSER DEGREE IN THE OTHER TWO DRIVING MODES. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE? (I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT SOON TO GET IT LOOKED AT, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT THAT THEY CAN DO.) IT IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I'M LOOKING TO HEAR IF THIS IS A COMMON. THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT PERFORMANCE IN ECO MODE IS LESS. BUT THIS IS VERY ANNOYING AND BORDERS BEING DANGEROUS.
2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2.0 T WHEN MAKING A TURN DURING ACCELERATION, SUDDEN POWER LOSS TO ENGINE. USUALLY HAPPENS IN 2ND GEAR, ESPECIALLY AFTER DOWNSHIFT FROM 3RD GEAR. MAKING A SHARP LEFT TURN FROM A FULL STOP CAUSED THE STABILITY CONTROL TO TURN ON AND VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER (RPM SAT AT 1500 RPM) FOR APPROX. 2 SECONDS. ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED. ANOTHER TIME, MAKING A RIGHT TURN ON INTERSTATE ONRAMP AND RIGHT FRONT TIRE HIT A POT HOLE, VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER FOR APPROX. 2 SECONDS (AROUND 20 MPH). ALMOST GOT HIT. MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AT TURN SIGNAL (VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED FROM 3RD TO 2ND) AND VEHICLE RPM WENT TO 1500 AND DIDN'T MOVE FOR APPROX. 2 SECONDS. ALMOST GOT HIT. ACCELERATING UP HILL, SLOWED DOWN FOR CAR IN FRONT OF ME (VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED FROM 3RD TO 2ND), APPROX. 20 MPH. WENT TO ACCELERATE AGAIN AND VEHICLE SAT AT 1500 RPM WITH POWER LOSS FOR APPROX. 2 SECONDS. SEVERAL OTHERS REPORT THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE VARIOUS HYUNDAI SANTA FE FORUMS WITH THE SPORT TURBO. I KNOW THERE WAS A TSB FOR THE FULL-SIZED SANTA FE WITH THE V6, BUT THIS IS THE SWB (SHORT WHEEL BASE) SPORT MODEL WITH 4 CYLINDER TURBO.

ENGINE STALLING AT SLOW SPEEDS. FURTHER, AT SLOW SPEEDS, THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DELAY OF SEVERAL SECONDS FOR POWER DELIVERY. FOR EXAMPLE, IF DRIVING SLOWLY, SAY AT 5 MPH, AND POWER IS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY (SUCH AS IN AN EMERGENCY OR A LANE CHANGE SITUATION), NOTHING HAPPENS FOR OVER 3 SECONDS WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, FOLLOWED BY A DANGEROUS LURCH WHEN POWER IS DELIVERED SUDDENLY. THIS IS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION. I SPOKE TO THE DEALER, WHO DISMISSED MY COMPLAINT AND CLAIMED THAT "ALL CARS ARE THE SAME THESE DAYS". THIS IS A REGULAR PROBLEM THAT OCCURS MULTIPLE TIMES EVERY DAY.
Mileage: 1,800
I HAVE THE 2017 SPORT 2.0T MODEL, AND I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME POWERTRAIN ISSUE. WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS, THERE IS A 3-4 SECOND DELAY IF POWER IS NEEDED SUDDENLY. THE POWERTRAIN JUST GOES TO SLEEP AND NOTHING HAPPENS, FOLLOWED BY A SUDDEN, DANGEROUS LURCH. THE SIGNIFICANT DELAY BETWEEN THE TIME THE POWER IS NEEDED AND THE TIME THE POWER IS DELIVERED, MAKES THIS CAR UNDRIVABLE AND HIGHLY DANGEROUS. I'M NOT SURE IF IT IS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ( SLOW TO DOWNSHIFT), A SOFTWARE ISSUE, OR A TURBO DELAY, LIKELY ALL THREE COMBINED. THE RESULT IS THAT THE CAR'S PERFORMANCE IS UNACCEPTABLE, AND HIGHLY DANGEROUS. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS DAILY. THIS IS MY THIRD HYUNDAI AND MY FINAL ONE. NEVER HAVE I EXPERIENCED SO MUCH REGRET AT BUYING A CAR; I WANT MY MONEY BACK. IF HYUNDAI DOES NOTHING TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE (I'M NOT SURE WHAT THEY CAN DO, AS THIS SEEMS TO BE A RESULT OF SHODDY ENGINEERING) I WILL JUST SELL MY CAR JUST TO GET RID OF THIS DANGEROUS VEHICLE AND EAT THE LOSS. MY LIFE AND THAT OF MY FAMILY ARE FAR MORE IMPORTANT. *TR

WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR BOGS DOWN. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY. DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. YOU CAN GET STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION.
Mileage: 400
WHEN DOING A LOW SPEED TURN,AND DRIVE MODE SWITCH IS IN ECO MODE,WAY TOO MUCH LAG TIME BEFORE VEHICLE ACCELERATES.YOU PUSH ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOWN ,NORMALLY,AND VEHICLE DOES NOT SPEED UP ,INSTANTLY.SOMETIMES,IT IS A FULL SECOND BEFORE VEHICLE STARTS TO GAIN SPEED.THAT IS DANGEROUS WHEN VEHICLES ARE APPROACHING YOU.I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE ONLY THREE WEEKS,AND THIS CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.I TRADED IN A LIKE MODEL VEHICLE,WHICH WAS A 2013 YEAR,AND IT DID NOT HAVE THAT ISSUE IN ECO MODE.THIS ISSUE MUST BE FIXED.
Mileage: 450
INTERMITTENTLY SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE ON 3/28/16, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP (EG. MERGING INTO TRAFFIC), USUALLY TURNING TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT, THE VEHICLE HESITATES FOR WHAT SEEMS TO BE MORE THAT A COUPLE OF SECONDS. THE HESITATION IS ENOUGH TO CAUSE PANIC THAT ONCOMING TRAFFIC WILL HAVE TO STOP ABRUPTLY TO AVOID A COLLISION. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FAST ENOUGH. THE CONDITION IS VERY WORRISOME BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL OCCUR, WE CAN'T SEEM TO MAKE IT HAPPEN ON COMMAND. THE 3.3L V6 IS VEY PEPPY WHEN EVERYTHING IS WORKING RIGHT, BUT YOU LOSE CONFIDENCE IN IT WHEN THESE HESITATION EVENTS OCCUR. ADDITIONALLY, WE HAVE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A HARD TIME SELECTING A GEAR WHEN DOWNSHIFTING WHILE MOVING AT AROUND 30-40 MPH. WHAT HAPPENS IS THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO STAY IN A "FLOAT" CONDITION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME AND FINALLY WILL SELECT THE GEAR AND ACCELERATE. DON'T KNOW IF THE TWO CONDITIONS ARE RELATED, BUT BOTH ARE SCARY WHEN ACCELERATION DOESN'T HAPPEN WHEN YOU PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE DATE OF WHEN THIS HAPPENED IS FOR THE MOST RECENT.

THE 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED WILL BOG DOWN WHEN STARTING FROM A STOPPED OR LOW SPEED WHILE TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC OR TURNING. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT HESITATION - ALMOST TO THE POINT OF STOPPING WHILE MERGING - VERY SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE BOUGHT 5/31/16
Mileage: 7,000
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT HESITATION WITH ACCELERATION (ESPECIALLY WHEN RESUMING SPEED AFTER SLOWING DOWN). I HAVE TAKEN CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES. THEY PERFORMED A COMPUTER UPDATE TO "RELEARN MY DRIVING STYLE" AND THEN THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. NOTHING HAS HELPED. I HAD THE TECH TEST-DRIVE WITH ME. HE FELT THERE WAS A SHIFT-LAG FROM 3-2, BUT SAID IT WAS NORMAL. I'M TOLD NOTHING ELSE CAN BE DONE UNTIL A RECALL IS ISSUED. I'VE HAD MY CAR 2 MONTHS (4000 MILES) AND IT HAS NEVER DRIVEN RIGHT SINCE I BROUGHT IT HOME. *TR
Mileage: 356
I HAVE HAD THE CAR 2.5 MONTHS AND AT LEAST ONCE A DAY THERE IS A MAJOR DELAY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR ROLLING STOP. THE CAR JERKS, AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE FOR A FEW SECONDS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TURNING, GETTING ONTO THE FREEWAY, CHANGING LANES, ETC. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE MY CAR NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I PUSH ON THE GAS!! HOW IS THIS GOING TO BE FIXED? I SEE THERE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINTS ON THIS FOR MONTHS!
Mileage: 200
VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC FROM A TURN OR STOP LIKE IT'S NOT IN GEAR MOMENTARILY. VERY DANGEROUS, PLEASE FIX BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. ALSO I HAVE ONLY 2100 MILES ON THE CAR AND I NOTICED THE PAINT HAS CHIPS ALL OVER THE HOOD, FRONT BUMPER,QUARTER PANELS. I DON'T KNOW IF HYUNDAI IS USING VERY CHEAP CLEAR COAT OR IF IT'S JUST TOO THIN, BUT AT THIS RATE THE PAINT WILL BE GONE IN A YEARS TIME.I OWN A 2011 SORENTO (BOUGHT NEW) THAT HAS LESS CHIPS ON IT. COME ON HYUNDAI FIX THESE ISSUES OR GET YOUR CARS OUT OF THE USA. ALL BRANDS HAVE ISSUES BUT IT'S HOW YOU RESOLVE THEM THAT MATTERS.
SANTA FE WILL STALL FROM A STOP WHEN MAKING A TURN ALSO WILL STALL AT A SLOW SPEED WHEN YOU TRY TO GIVE IT GAS THE DATE I PUT ON THIS FORM IS THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED BEFORE.
Mileage: 3,000
I BOUGHT A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTE FE TORBO ULTIMATE AND FOUND ON EXCELLERATION THERE WAS A BAD HESITATION. I WAS ALMOST KILLED WHEN GOING ON TO THE HIGHWAY, A TRACTOR TRAILER WAS FAR ENOUGHT AWAY FROM ME TO PULL OUT, BUT UPON STEPPING ON THE GAS THE CAR HESITATED SO BAD IT ALMOST STALLED, THEN THE TACH SHOT TO 6000 RPM'S AND IT TOOK OFF. THANK GOD I COULD PULL OVER OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.
Mileage: 1,250
WE BOUGHT A 2017 SANTA FE SPORT WITH THE 2.0 T ENGINE IN JULY OF 2017. IT HAS ABOUT 5,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS NOW STARTED TO HESITATE BADLY WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN TURNING. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IT EITHER LOSES POWER OR THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT IN THE CORRECT GEAR. THE RESULT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN TRY TO TURN ONTO A ROAD WITH TRAFFIC. WE ARE GOING TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP WERE WE PURCHASED THE CAR TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY FIX. I SEE FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE A COMMON ISSUE.
Mileage: 5,000
WHEN ACCELERATING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND POSES DANGER. TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. SINCE IT DOES NOT THROW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, DEALER SPECIFIED THAT THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO FIX IT WITHOUT ANY CODE. THIS LOOKS REALLY DANGER.
Mileage: 3,500
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND ENTERING TRAFFIC, WHEN YOU PRESS ON ACCELERATOR THE TRANSMISSION DIS ENGAGES AND LEAVES YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH NO POWER AND PUTTING YOU IN DANGER OF BEING HIT. ONCE TRANSMISSION KICKS BACK IN, THE ENGINE REVS AND VEHICLE JOLTS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WILL GET SOMEONE KILLED. HYUNDAI HAS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.
Mileage: 4,500
I HAVE A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED ULTIMATE AND LIKE MANY PEOPLE ACROSS THE USA THE CAR HAS HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AT SPEEDS BELOW 20 MPH. I HAD THE RECALL / REFLASH OF THE COMPUTER DONE ON 08/10/16 AND THE HESITATION IN TURNS IS A LITTLE LESS ABRUPT BUT STILL PRESENT AND INTERMITTENT. I NEVER HAD HESITATION WHEN 4TH GEAR DOWN SHIFTED TO 3RD GEAR GOING STRAIGHT BUT I NOW HAVE IT ALONG WITH HESITATION WHEN THE CAR DOWN SHIFTS FROM 3RD TO 2ND. I'VE CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ASKED FOR A BUY BACK AND THEY TOLD ME CHRIS FROM REGIONAL WILL CALL ME BACK IN 3 TO 5 BUSINESS DAYS I'VE CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE TWICE AND ASKED FOR AN UPDATE ON MY CASE ( CASE NUMBER 9309476) AND THEY JUST KEEP TELLING ME REGIONAL WILL CALL ME THAT WAS TWO WEEKS AGO. I HAVE NEVER ASKED FOR A BUY BACK ON ANY CAR AND I HAVE BEEN VERY PATIENT AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ACROSS THE COUNTRY BUT AT THIS POINT I FEEL I AM GOING TO HAVE TO CONTACT A LAWYER THAT HANDLES LEMON LAWS TO GET ANY RESULTS. IN ADDITION HYUNDAI HAS NEVER ADDRESSED THE LACK OF AUDIBLE WARNING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WHEN THE OCCUPANT DOES NOT FASTEN THEIR SAFETY BELT . GOOD LUCK TO ALL WITH SAME ISSUE.
HESITATION WHEN TURNING AND ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, AS YOU DO WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC. CAR NEARLY COMES TO A STOP. NEARLY HAD AN ACCIDENT AND I HAVE LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON ODOMETER. DOES THIS INTERMITTENTLY AND IS BAR TO RECREATE AT WILL. HAPPENS MOSTLY IN NORMAL MODE. NEED A RECALL AND FIX!!
Mileage: 25
THE TRANSSMISION FAILS TO SHIFT DOWN UPON COMING TO A ROLLING STOP, SUCH AS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT, THEN THE LIGHT GOES GREEN AND YOU ACCELERATE, OR TURNING IN AN INTERSECTION AFTER COMING TO A NEAR STOP, OR AFTER TRAFFIC SLOWS AND YOU COME TO A NEAR STOP BEHIND A CAR, THEN TRAFFIC BEGINS TO MOVE AND YOU ACCELERATE OUT OF THE SLOW DOWN. UPON ACCELERATION, THE CAR INITIALLY DOES NOT RESPOND, THEN IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE HESITATION, LURCHES FORWARD AS THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY SHIFTS TO A LOWER GEAR. THIS USUALLY OCCURS AT SPEEDS UNDER 10MPH. THE SITUATION IS DANGEROUS AS THE HESITATION IS NOT ONLY ABRUPT, BUT LEAVES YOU HANGING PRECARIOUSLY, MOMENTARILY DEAD IN THE WATER WHEN ACCELERATION IS NEEDED IN TRAFFIC. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER FEELS IT IS A SOFTWARE GLITCH. THE FREQUENCY OF THE PROBLEM IS INCREASING, AND MAY EVENTUALLY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE PERFORMS WELL OTHERWISE.
Mileage: 800
ON LOW SPEED TURNS (BELOW 20 MPH) THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION EXHIBIT A LOSS OF POWER. THIS JEOPARDIZES MY FAMILY'S SAFETY WHEN TURNING IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH HYUNDAI AMERICA (#9484960) WHO LEFT ME A VOICEMAIL (STILL HAVE IT) STATING THERE IS A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE I DESCRIBED. I HAD UPDATE #16-01-032 APPLIED ON 08/15/2016. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE IS TILL PRESENT. I ALSO JUST DISCOVERED THAT WHEN TOWING A TRAILER THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE. ADDITIONALLY THE LIGHTS OF THE TRAILER CONSTANTLY RUN EVEN WHEN THE POWER IS COMPLETELY OFF. LASTLY THE HARNESS WHERE THE TRAILERS ELECTRICAL PLUGS INTO ON THE VEHICLE, POPS OUT OF PLACE WHEN PLUGGING IT IN. IN TURN CAUSING ME TO RESEAT THE VEHICLES HARNESS EACH TIME. I WANT OUT OF THIS VEHICLE BUT THEY WILL NOT OFFER ME A BUY BACK. I PLAN TO CONTACT A LEMON LAW ATTORNEY AS I AM UNABLE TO RECEIVE HELP OTHERWISE.
WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO EITHER MAKE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN CAR LOSES POWER TO THE ENGINE. IT APPEARS THAT THE CAR IS HESITATING TO ACCELERATE AND CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ENTERING THE HIGHWAY. THIS CAN BE VERY FATAL ESPECIALLY FOR DRIVERS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE. IF IT PRESENTS ITSELF AT THE WRONG TIME CAN LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENTS WITH POTENTIAL FATALITIES. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN MAY 2016 CURRENTLY CAR HAS OVER 1600 MILES (3 MONTHS OWNED). POTENTIAL RE-FLASHING OF AUTOMOTIVE COMPUTER IS REQUIRED. COULD BE PART OF THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE CARS ROLL OVER SENSORS WHICH CAN BE CONTRIBUTING. HYUNDAI HAS TO RESEARCH THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS ACKNOWLEDGED, BUT THERE WAS NO REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
Mileage: 3,000
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT THE GEAR OUT OF PARK. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SMART JUNCTION BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND ASSISTED THE DEALER WITH THE DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE CARE HAS LESS THAN 200 MILES ON IT. IT HAS A SERIOUS HESITATION PROBLEM WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND THEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THIS HAS CAUSED ME A COUPLE OF NEAR COLLISIONS WHEN SLOWING DOWN THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND THEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THROUGH. THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND IMMEDIATELY TO MAY ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL (I HAVE THE SANTA FE ULTIMATE VERSION).
Mileage: 75
SOMETIMES AFTER SLOWING TO MAKE A TURN THE CAR'S ENGINE SEEMS TO "STUMBLE" FOR A SECOND BEFORE ACCELERATION CAN BEGIN. COMES AS A SURPRISE AND BECAUSE OF THE HESITATION CATCHING ME OFF-GUARD I AM PITCHED FORWARD IN MY SEAT. NOTHING CATASTROPHIC, BUT VERY ANNOYING AND COULD BE DANGEROUS TO A DRIVER NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR AND I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM AFTER ONLY A DAY OR TWO OF OWNERSHIP. I SUSPECT THIS IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE AND CAN BE FIXED WITH A REFLASH OF THE ECU, BUT THAT'S JUST MY BEST GUESS. HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP YET, BUT THOUGHT I'D FILE THIS COMPLAINT FIRST TO SEE IF A RECALL CAN BE ISSUED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
Mileage: 20
HESITATES WHEN TAKING OFF. JERKS AT ABOUT 10 MPH AND THEN AGAIN AT ABOUT 20 MPH BUT NOT AS BAD AS AT 10 MPH. HESITATES WHEN GIVEN GAS AFTER JERKING. FEELS AS IF I HAVE GOT TO ABOUT 10 MPH THEN SLAMMED ON MY BREAKS BEFORE IT WILL START TO GO AGAIN. I'M SCARED TO TRY AND PULL OUT INTO BUSY TRAFFIC. I AM WORRIED I WILL GET HIT DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO DEPEND THAT IT WILL GO WHEN I'M TRYING TO GO.
Mileage: 200
I AM EXPERIENCE A HESITATION IN THE ACCELERATION FROM EITHER A DEAD STOP OR A ROLLING STOP. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED, THERE IS A 1-2 SECOND DELAY IN POWER. THE ENGINE APPEARS TO CUT OUT AND THEN IT KICKS IN AND TAKES OFF. THE FIRST HAPPENED WITH 50 MILES ON THE CAR AND HAS HAPPENED OVER TWO DOZEN TIMES OVER THE NEXT 3700 MILES. NOT ONLY IS IT VERY ANNOYING, BUT HAS BEEN DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO ENTER A LANE TO GET UP TO SPEED WITH TRAFFIC.
Mileage: 50
THE VEHICLE :"CHOKES" OUT AT LOW SPEED OFTEN WHEN TURNING A CORNER OR FROM A SLOW START. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER AND THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND DECLARED THEY DETECTED NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND MAY CAUSE AN ISSUE IF ACCELERATION IS REQUIRED.
Mileage: 500
BRAND NEW VEHICLE (1600 MILES) HESITATES WHEN I GO FROM A COMPLETE STOP AND START TO ACCELERATE AT LOW SPEEDS. MAINLY NOTICE IT WHEN TAKING A CORNER. IT SEEMS AS IF IT HAS TROUBLE SELECTING THE GEAR AND ONCE IT DOES, IT LURCHES FORWARD. DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AS THE HESITATION PUTS YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD JUST A LITTLE TOO LONG FOR COMFORT. ALSO, MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL COME ON AROUND CERTAIN CORNERS AND LEAVES ME WITHOUT CONTROL OF THE CAR. ALSO ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE AS AGAIN THE CAR HESITATES OR LOCKS UP BECAUSE OF THIS FEATURE AND DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO DRIVE FORWARD AS I WISH. IT'S THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER WITHOUT ANY RAIN AND DEFINITELY NO SNOW ON THE GROUND (I'D SAY PERFECT ROAD CONDITIONS) SO NO REAL REASON WHY MY TRACTION CONTROL SHOULD BE TURNING ON AROUND CORNERS. VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE! ALSO, I SHOULD NOTE THAT THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN HAPPENING LONG BEFORE 1600 MILES. I NOTICED THEM THE FIRST WEEK OR SO THAT I TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME SO DEFINITELY LESS THAN 500 MILES AS I BOUGHT IT NEW. FOR A BRAND NEW, FAIRLY EXPENSIVE VEHICLE I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FEEL LIKE MY CONFIDENCE IN IT'S BASIC PERFORMANCE IS COMPROMISED.
Mileage: 500
WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AT SPEEDS LESS THAN ABOUT 10MPH, THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY SIGNIFICANT HESITATION/ENGINE STUMBLE - ABOUT 2 SECONDS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY NON-RESPONSIVE AND BOGS DOWN. HAPPENS EVERY TIME AT LOW SPEED TURNS, AND IS DANGEROUS WITH VEHICLES BEHIND. OWNED A 2014 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2.0 TURBO AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH IT. I HOPE AND PRAY THEY CAN FIX THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE HAS A LOT TO OFFER BUT THIS PROBLEM TAKES AWAY FROM ALL OF IT. ALSO RECEIVED A SURVEY FROM HYUNDAI ENGINEERS AND IN THE "ENGINE" CATEGORY THE ONLY COMPLAINT TO PICK FROM WAS "ENGINE STUMBLES" COINCIDENCE OR ARE THEY WORKING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?
Mileage: 55
2017 SANTA FE SE 3.3L V-6 (3 ROW) FREQUENTLY HESITATES/STUMBLES BADLY WHEN GIVEN NORMAL ACCELERATION AT 5-15 MPH. WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR ROLLING STOP, VEHICLE SEEMS NOT TO DOWNSHIFT FROM 3RD GEAR TO 2ND GEAR CORRECTLY. CAR IS UNRESPONSIVE FOR 1-3 SECONDS, THEN THERE IS A DELAY AND LURCHING FORWARD AS THE CAR FINALLY DOWNSHIFTS AND ACCELERATES. I HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF DANGEROUS CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE THE CAR STUMBLED JUST AS I WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE WITH FASTER TRAFFIC. THE SELLING DEALER DROVE THE CAR AND COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM OR AN ERROR CODE IN ANY OF THE ONBOARD SYSTEMS. PROBLEM OCCURS IN ALL 3 DRIVE MODES. PROBLEM BECAME VERY NOTICEABLE AT APPROXIMATELY 200 MILES. CAR NOW HAS 1300 MILES. PROBLEM HAS NOT IMPROVED OR CHANGED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN APRIL, 2016.
Mileage: 200
TRANSMISSION NOT DOWN SHIFTING WHEN RE THROTTLING OUT OF CORNERS AS IN TURNING AND WHEN TRYING TO CROSS TRAFFIC, YOU SLOW DOWN THAN HIT THE GAS AND IT FEELS LIKE IT'S IN A HIGH GEAR ,YOU SLOWLY CREEPS OUT INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC WAITING FOR THE DOWN SHIFT TO PUT YOU INTO 1 ST GEAR SO YOU WON'T BE KILLED BY ON COMING FLOW, VERY DANGEROUS, VEHICLE ONE WEEK OLD
Mileage: 825
TRANSMISSION HESITATES BADLY FOR ABOUT 1-2 SECONDS BEFORE GOING INTO GEAR TO MOVE CAR AFTER COMING TO COMPLETE/ROLLING STOP OR IN SLOW TURNS. TRANSMISSION DOES THIS ONLY INTERMITTENTLY. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS FOR MERGING INTO TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY OR STREETS DUE TO FACT THAT CAR WILL NOT RESPOND IMMEDIATELY TO DRIVER ACCELERATION INPUT. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW 3 WEEKS AGO.
Mileage: 15
I HAVE A 2017 SANTE FE LIMITED ULTIMATE AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO BETWEEN 10 TO 15 MPH AND THEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE 3.3 LITER MOTOR 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION HESITATES WHEN DOWN SHIFTING FROM 3RD GEAR TO 2ND GEAR. THIS HESITATION LEFT ME IN INTERSECTIONS A FEW SECONDS LONGER THAN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MAKING THE CARS COMING FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO ME. I'VE BEEN TO TWO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS AND AFTER TEST DRIVING THE CAR WITH ME THE HYNDAI MECHANICS TOLD ME THIS WAS THE WAY THE CARS WERE DESIGNED AND WITHOUT CODE LIGHTS COMING ON THEY COULD NOT FIX THE CAR. HEARING THIS FROM HYUNDAI MECHANICS WAS NOT CONFIDENCE INSPIRING TO LEARN THAT WITHOUT A CODE LIGHT COMING ON THEY COULD NOT FIND OR FIX A PROBLEM. ALSO AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IF YOU STEP DOWN ON THE GAS TOO FAR THE CAR WILL DOWN SHIFT TO MUCH AND THE MOTOR WILL REV UP TO 6000 RPMS RESULTING THE CAR NOT ACCELERATING. I HAD A 2011 SANTE FE GLS WITH A 6 CYLINDER MOTOR AND IT SEEMED TO BE MORE RESPONSIVE THE TRANSMISSION FOR THAT YEAR SEEMED BETTER MATCHED FOR THE MOTOR AND WORKED FLAWLESSLY. HOPEFULLY HYUNDAI FINDS A FIX/UPDATE FOR THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE IS A LOT TO LIKE ABOUT THIS CAR.
Mileage: 200
PURCHASED NEW ON APRIL 17TH OF THIS YEAR. VEHICLE CONTINUALLY HAS A PROBLEM ACCELERATING FROM LOW SPEED....ROUGHLY BETWEEN 2 AND 10 MILES AN HOUR. IF YOU SLOW DOWN BUT DO NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE A LONG PAUSE THEN LURCH INTO CORRECT GEAR. RENDERS CAR NEARLY UNDRIVEABLE AT LOW "PARKING LOT" TYPE SPEEDS. DEALER STATES THAT WITHOUT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THERE IS NO PROBLEM. CLEARLY THERE IS SOME SORT OF PROBLEM AS EVERY COMPLAINT I SEE IS REGARDING THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO FIX THIS OR I WILL TERMINATE MY LEASE AND SEEK REIMBURSEMENT FOR MONEY SPENT ON THIS VEHICLE.
Mileage: 100
WHEN SLOWING DOWN THEN ACCELERATING TO A HIGHER SAY (SAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC) THE TRANSMISSION FREQUENTLY LUGS AND STRUGGLES TO SELECT A GEAR, RESULTING IN A SIGNIFICANT ACCELERATION DELAY. THIS POSES A SAFETY ISSUE AS A DELAY IN ACCELERATION COULD LEAD TO A COLLISION. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW.
Mileage: 200
WHILE IN SLOW SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION STRUGGLES TO SELECT THE PROPER GEAR. CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE FASTER TAN NORMAL, SPECIALLY WHILE TURNING AFTER REDUCING SPEED. YOU HAVE TO CONTROL THE ACCELERATION USING YOUR DRIVING EXPERIENCE, HOWEVER THIS IS NOT SAFE AT ALL. TESTED USING, ECO, NORMAL AND SPORT DRIVING MODES, THE ONLY TIME I COULDNT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE WAS WHILE ON SPORT MODE (I WANT TO DRIVE ON ECO WHILE IN THE CITY) HOPEFULLY HYUNDAI WILL TACKLE THIS ISSUE.
Mileage: 300
THERE IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION WHERE IN LOW OR SLOW SPEED SITUATIONS WHEN YOU APPLY POWER THE TRANSMISSIONS STUTTERS OR STUMBLES. IT IS MOST PREVALENT WHEN TURNING IN AN INTERSECTION ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHERE YOU NEVER QUITE STOP OR WHEN ROLLING AT STOP SIGN. WHEN YOU APPLY THROTTLE THE CAR SHIFT LOGIC SEEMS CONFUSED AT WHAT GEAR TO GO INTO SO IT JUST SITS THERE OR LURCHES, THEN TO GET GOING YOU HAVE TO APPLY FULL THROTTLE SO IT PICKS THE CORRECT GEAR TO ACCELERATE IN. THE CAUSES A HIGH SPEED REACTION IN THE VEHICLE, WHICH IS NOT SAFE EITHER. THIS VEHCILE HAS THREE DRIVING MODES. THE DEFAULT, NORMAL SETTING. ECON, AND SPORT. SPORT SETTING SEEMS TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT IT HAS TO BE TURNED ON EACH TIME THE CAR IS RESTARTED. SPORT MODE THEN LOCKS OUT OVERDRIVE SO YOU MUST THEN PHYSICALLY RETURN THE CAR TO NORMAL MODE TO GET IT TO RETURN TO 6TH GEAR OR OVERDRIVE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MORE THAN 23 YEARS AND HAVE HAD PROBABLY 40 DIFFERENT VEHICLES, THIS TRANSMISSION RENDERS THE VEHICLE NEARLY UNDRIVABLE IN SOME SITUATIONS. IN CERTAIN SCENARIOS WHEN YOU REALLY NEED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE IT MAY NOT AND YOU MAY BE HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC, A TRAIN ETC. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE CAR WAS DRIVEN OFF THE LOT.
Mileage: 50
