ABS doesn't work, traction control doesn't work, while it was raining the sensor lights came on and I began to hydroplane almost causing a wreck while driving on the highway. The sensors go off and on the emergency brake won't engage while this sensor is on also. Acceleration stall pulling out in traffic. I'm scared to even drive the suv
While driving, the vehicle lost its brakes and rolled to a stop on [XXX] at that point the vehicle compartment began to fill up with black smoke and soot and flames started to come out of vents. My daughter immediately grabbed her dog and exited from the vehicle to a safe spot away from the car. Within 10 seconds the vehicle exploded and erupted into a 20 ft fireball. If my daughter would have hesitated she could have been killed. Hyundai inspected the vehicle and found nothing conclusive except that this problem has been documented in other Incidents. The vehicle was declared to be totaled. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The brakes and rotors need to be replaced every 3-6 months. They have been fixed at least 4 times under warranty. Every time I take the car in I get asked if I drove through the mountains because they are fried. This vehicle has never been in the mountains because I fear what will happen if it really were driven through the mountains. However, no excessive braking occurs to cause them to be ruined every 3-6 months. I am at the point I’m curious if automatic braking is causing it to heat up and burn them. The incident below is the last time I had them replaced. I’m currently looking to sell the vehicle because of the number of times I’ve had to go in and get them replaced.
My complaint is the dealership that said had completed the recall on my brake systems according to both your and state records was not completed. They gave me a service notice stating the work was done. Since then the braked have continued to act up and the vehicle as a strange acceleration problem. The dealership is Don Wood Hyundai in Athens Ohio.
Complete failure of brake system. After the vehicle parked, a significant puddle of brake fluid formed under the rear axle area (mid between rear wheels. It appears that a break line failed. An internet search revealed that Canada has issued a recall regarding corrosion of brake lines on this vehicle. Extremely dangerous situation. Fortunately, the failure happened when driving in a residential neighborhood at speeds less than 25 mph.
When driving front right brake caliper locked up and would not release, after replacing brake pads, rotors and calipers on both front right brakes. I drove my car about a week and car brakes locked up again…I then had to have my car towed to the mechanics. Where they discovered that the ABS module was bad, this is the same part that is causing fires in many others Hyundai vehicles but somehow my car was exempt from the recall and after having issues with getting the part and having to rent a car and borrow a car for several weeks I finally got my car fixed almost $3000.00 later. Seems to me this part is a common problem for many people. Thankfully I was not in an accident due to the brake locking up, I will say I had a little fear when driving my car for several weeks after the 2 incidents.
The oil leaks every time I brake, and car engine and brakes get hot.
All safety lights AEB, TMPS, ABS, on. The car breaking as driven due to this issue. Reported to Hyundai Headquarters. They said it was a major safety issue but not willing to pay for repairs especially since it's a safety issue. There many reports online of people experiencing the same issue with new cars as well. Having to pay for this is not very noble of Hyundai.
I bought this vehicle and there was a complete break down malfunction due to the ABS module system! This lack of due diligence caused both myself and my 7 year old to unwillingly enter a vehicle that put our lives at risk and a near death experience that still traumatizes my daughter until this day who refuses to enter any vehicle! This is an unfortunate mistake on your end and there is no where near enough compensation that will ever withdraw the fear from my innocent child’s eyes anytime I need to drive her to school, or basketball practice, or anywhere to run our daily errands and live a normal life! I have nothing else to add except I expect compensation for a safe vehicle and compensation necessary to help my child, my innocent child to get through this fear!
It’s not a accident The car won’t start and brake and wheels keep locking by itself.
The left rear brake caliper broke off and was hanging next to the wheel. The brake fluid was leaking and had leaked out. it is available for inspection. This occurred while driving home from an errand. Had it occurred earlier on a steep hill down the mountain, the results would have been catastrophic, probably resulting in loss of life. The vehicle has yet to be inspected by the manufacturer but will be soon. No warning lights just noise of caliper banging against car and loss of brakes. Event occurred close to home problem discovered there.
My lane departure and collision warning did not work when I crashed into a car head on and totallled my vehicle. I had not yet received my recall maintenance, nor did I know about both recalls. Only the first. Not only that but lane assist did not work and the airbag did not go off. Despite totaling the car, how did they not go off?????
I was accelerating on the highway and my RMPS shot the whole way up over 7,000 then bottomed out. I lost speed so I pulled over. Another car pulled over to inform me my car was on fire. I turned the car off and the fire went out. The car was towed to Blaise Alexander (dealership) in Altoona, PA. The mechanic reported that a connector rod went through the oil pan, engine block, and brake starter. He kept repeating to me "I've never seen anything like this before". He reached out to Hyundai to ask if they would cover repairs (starting at $13,790). Hyundai said no. I believe this incident was more than mechanical, and is related to the open recall. I attempted twice to have my car repaired under the recall but the dealership "didn't have the part".
My dealer, Crain Hyundai, North Little Rock, AR, has not performed the recall notices on my 2017 Santa Fe (recall 961 Auxilary Canister Kit and recall 218 ABS system). I have taken the vehicle in three times and they say they don't have the parts. I would like to file a complaint in this regard. Michael Barron
The rear hatch closes automatically even if somebody is under the hatch putting items in the trunk without going back up. This is dangerous especially if children are near the hatch. It also at times opens when the button on the hatch is pushed but does not close automatically. The Hyundai Dealership Alexandria (1707 Mount Vernon Avenue) was uninterested in the issue and said they would charge $370 to look at the problem. Also for the safety recall of the ABS system, the earliest appointment at the same dealership was September 7 even though this sounded like a serious recall.
This last 07/08/2022, my car was for RECALL 218, in Kendall Hyundai, Miami Florida for ABS, my car never have problem before in 5 year. When I am driver for my home after work the light for warning is ON ABS line and other one too, when i go for the dealer the next Monday the dealer said me, i have to paid $ 1106.00 for the two rear sensor have problem, for each sensor is 42.00 dollar but the rate is the difference for repair my car, is unavailable for the same problem, i think about keeping my car and buying a new Hyundai Santa FE ,but i don't feel comfortable with this situation.
Two attempts to have fuse replaced resulted in being told we have to leave car all day. We have one car, and live ten miles away. They said they shuttle only up to five miles. We are senior citizens and have purchased our last two cars from Hyundai. We cannot take advantage of the recall
Recall 22V056000 has been open and unresolved since Feb2022 and the recall remains incomplete four months later.
Just received another letter from Hyundai (First one in Feb./March this one in June) telling me about the same problem with the ABS System and how it might short out and cause an engine fire. STILL NO REMEDY! The letter said I'd receive a second notice ...I guess they meant a third notice! What's taking so long to find a fix??? I'm supposed to be confident taking this vehicle on a trip knowing it may short out and cause a fire at any time while driving or parked!?? This is not acceptable.
The contact owned a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while coming off the highway ramp she saw smoke coming from the hood of the vehicle. A witness stated there was fire coming from the hood. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over to the parking lot and the vehicle would not stop. The contact let the vehicle slow down until she hit a bump and safely jumped out of the vehicle. There were no injuries and there was no medical attention needed. The fire and police were there to file a report. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The vehicle was towed to a city pound. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V056000 ( Engine Compartment Fire) was referenced. The failure mileage was 124,000.

The recall, listed by Hyundai as RECALL 218, repair or replacement of the ABS system, which was dated 2/2/22. I was not notified of the recall until approximately 4/5/22 by your agency (nearly 2 months after the initial recall by Hyundai). As of 5/3/22, 3 months after the initial generation of the recall and1 month after your agency notified me (recall 22V056) of the recall Hyundai still has not scheduled a date to repair or replace the ABS module.
The contact owned a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the traffic stopped and the brake pedal was applied but the vehicle failed to stop. As a result, the contact crashed into an unknown vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The air bags deployed. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire or injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent lot. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 33, 000.

I went to a drive through car wash. Put my car in neutral and it drives your car through the wash. Once it was done I changed to drive and tapped lightly to get out. I was going to have the car wash attendant wipe down my car. As I approached him my brakes wouldn’t work and the car continued to accelerate despite not pressing down on the gas pedal. None of my electrical lights were working. It took me onto a busy street in Chicago and kept accelerating at full speed. I was trying to brake, put it into neutral or drive, use emergency brake system and nothing was working. I was swerving to avoid hitting other cars or pedestrians. I erratically drove about 1.5 blocks until I hit another SUV. All my airbags deployed. My full trauma work up was negative at the hospital. I am not sure if anyone sustained major injuries in the other car. I filed an insurance claim and my car was deemed a total loss. Insurance company thinks there was definitely an electrical shortage but did not further investigate. They said it would take more money to investigate the cause rather than paying a lump sum for car. I filed a claim case with Hyundai 2 days after the accident. The initial representative said a case manager would call within 5-7 business days and would like the car preserved in case of investigation. I have called over 5 times and have never received a call back nor an initial call from the case manager assigned. There was no active recalls out at the time and the car was serviced a month prior at a Hyundai dealership. Since the accident occurred we received a new recall that the anti-lock brake system could malfunction and cause an electrical short. But according to recall notice there is still no remedy available.
The contact owned a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while at a stop light, smoke was present coming from under the hood. While attempting to pull over to park, the brakes suddenly failed and an explosion occurred within the engine compartment causing flames from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact exited the vehicle and called the fire department who came to the scene an extinguished the flames. During the incident no injuries were reported, the vehicle was destroyed and towed away and a police and fire report was taken at the scene. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The day after the incident the contact received a recall notice from the manufacturer for the NHTSA Campaign Number 22v056000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall which included a fire hazard. The failure mileage was 54,000.

Icalled my dealer where I purchase my Hyundai & I called Hyundai customer care as well. Both p;laces told me since they do not have a remedy to cure this default there is nothing they can do. They both advised me to park my car away from other vehicles & structures as a fire could be triggered in the engine that could damage the surrounding area. This is preposterous that they recommended me to continue to drive the car but not keep it next to anything. I am a young mother with an 8 month old baby & I am petrified to drive the car & they will not provide me with a substitute car or rental car until they can fix the issue, which they have no timeframe to complete. The recall number for Hyundai is 22V056. Hyundai has it as 218. Please let me know what I can do to expedite this issue & feel safe. Thanks.
THIS COMPLAINT HAS TO DO WITH THE AEB ( AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING ) SYSTEM. THIS WAS A FEATURE THAT LED ME TO PURCHASE THE CAR AND I DISCUSSED IT WITH THE SALESMAN AT LENGTH AT THE TIME I PURCHASED IT. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR, I STARTED TRYING TO TEST IT TO SEE IF AND HOW IT WORKED. I COULD GET NO INDICATION IT WAS WORKING WITHOUT WRECKING IT. THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE 3 WARNING STAGES ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL ( 1 A MESSAGE ON LCD WITH WARNING ALARMS, 2 A 2ND COLLISION WARNING MESSAGE AND LIMITED CONTROL OF THE BRAKES, 3 EMERGENCY BRAKING ). I NEVER SAW ANY OF THESE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER ALONG WITH A VIDEO IN WHICH I TESTED IT RUNNING OVER PARTY BALLOONS. THEY SAID IT WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. I WROTE HYUNDAI AMERICA AND THEY SUGGESTED I TAKE TO ANOTHER DEALER WHICH I DID AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING. NO ONE CARES OR IS INTERESTED IN SEEING THAT THE SYSTEM WORKS. I HAVE ATTACHED A COUPLE OF STILL PHOTOS I TOOK FROM MY VIDEO SHOWING JUST BEFORE AND AFTER THE COLLISION WITH THE BALLOONS. I HAVE SEVERAL VIDEOS, I COULD SEND IF INTERESTED. THANK YOU

9/18/17 WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE MOVED SLOW AS IF TO NOT WANT TO SHIFT. I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND WHEN I RE STARTED A FEW MINUETS LATER THE LIGHT WENT OUT AND VEHICLE OPERATED WITHOUT OUT PROBLEM. I MADE APPOINTMENT WITH DEALERSHIP FOR 9/26/17. THEY DID SOME RECALL ITEMS AND I MENTIONED THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD IF THE LIGHT IS OUT IT MAY NOT SHOW UP. THE FAILED TO NOT ON SERVICE ORDER THIS ISSUE. ON 10/24/17 WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 50 MILES FROM HOME THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT NOTIFIED ME ON THE RADIO SCREEN TO CONTACT BLUE LINK AS THERE WAS A POSSIBLE CONDITION WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I CONTACTED BLUE LINK AND THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 10/27/17 AT 8 AM AT THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER 6 HOURS WAITING ON HYUNDAI TECH SUPPORT TO GET BACK WITH THEM TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS. LAST 3 MONTHS VEHICLE MONTHLY REPORT ON VEHICLE SHOWS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. THEY CLAIM THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES.10/24/17

SMART CRUISE CONTROL FAILS TO BRAKE INTERMITTENTLY. IT IS DESIGNED TO MATCH SPEED WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF IT. IT USUALLY WORKS FINE, UNLESS ANOTHER VEHICLE CUTS IN FRONT, EVEN IF THERE IS ENOUGH TIME TO BRAKE. I HAVE TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES MANUALLY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I NOW FEAR USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AT ALL, AS IT DOES NOT PERFORM CORRECTLY 100% OF THE TIME. THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG, BUT THIS IS A VERY REAL ISSUE THAT PUTS MY FAMILY AT RISK. THEY HAVE NOW CALLED IN A MASTER TECH FROM HYUNDAI TO LOOK AT IT, BUT I WANTED TO DOCUMENT THIS ISSUE. I NOTICED IT FIRST WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF PURCHASE. HYUNDAI SUPPORT CLOSED MY CASE SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ACTION. I BOUGHT IT 5 MONTHS AGO. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 3462, SO IT IS WELL WITHIN WARRANTY.

WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, NUMEROUS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, INCLUDING LOW TIRES, STEERING, OTHER CODES CONSISTING OF LETTERS. POWER STEERING FAILED, POWER BRAKES FAILED. ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. STEERING WARNING LIGHT STILL ILLUMINATED AS WERE TIRE WARNINGS. THE TIRES WERE FULLY INFLATED, ENGINE STILL RUNNING. WE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, RAISED THE HOOD TO CHECK FOR THROWN BELT. BELTS WERE INTACT. TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, IT MADE A CLICKING AND A SIZZLING SOUND AND WOULD NOT START. CALLED DEALER, DEALER GAVE NUMBER FOR HYUNDAI ASSURANCE. THEY CAME AND PICKED UP THE CAR. IF WE HAD BEEN DRIVING ANY FASTER, OR IN TRAFFIC, THE AUTOMOBILE'S FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. IF WE HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY, SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT OR KILLED. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS WE WERE GIVEN A COURTESY CAR. AFTER A WEEK, THE CAR WAS REPAIRED. THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED AS A FUSE ON THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE. CABLE AND BATTERY WERE REPLACED. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AT TIME OF FAILURE.

ON APRIL 15, OUR BRAND NEW SANTA FE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING IN LOW SPEED TRAFFIC SUDDENLY, WHILE MY FIANCE REAR ENDED SOMEONE. TO THIS DAY SHE CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED. SHE IS A CAREFUL DRIVER, DOES NOT SPEED AND KNOWS THAT THE AREA WERE SHE WAS DRIVING IS HIGH TRAFFIC AND WAS COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT. BOTH OF HER HANDS WERE ON THE WHEEL AND SHE WASN'T ON A PHONE OR ANYTHING. SHE BELIEVES SHE HIT THE BREAKS, AND AS STATED BEFORE STILL DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. AFTER READING THESE COMPLAINTS WE ARE WONDERING IF WE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS SOMEONE ELSE WHO REPORTED AND IS THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. WE FIGURED WE WOULD REPORT THIS. WE ARE ALSO WONDERING IF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING SIMILAR ACCIDENTS SINCE THERE HAS BEEN A MAJOR ISSUE GETTING PARTS TO REPAIR SAID CAR (CAR HAS NOW BEEN OFF THE ROAD FOR 11 WEEKS MOST PARTS REQUIRED FOR REPAIR HAVE BEEN EXTERNALLY BACKORDERED AND HYUNDAI HAS BEEN EXTREMELY UNHELPFUL TO HELP US GET OUR CAR REPAIRED). THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD, WHILE SLOWLY DEPRESSING THE BREAKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. UPDATED 11/2/2017*JS
