Excessive oil leaks. When I fix an oil leak another pop up. Im fixing my 4th oil leak. You can smell the oil burning. Engine is making knocking sounds. Hood latch is not working. You have to hold the hood or it will come down.
While driving- in total movement- the car completely shut off. Without any prior warning or indication. Immediately after, the car restarted, drove a couple blocks over, continuing to shut off while driving. It was then towed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The warning lights did not appear until AFTER the car quit. They all came on & flashed & quickly went back out. Uncertain which component misfired or is affected- possibly related to an engine or fuel/ cylinder failure. Car is at mechanic for inspection. Our safety & lives were in critical jeopardy as the vehicle stopped without warning while driving in traffic congested area. It is unknown if this is a known issue or if this situation has been replicated however the current mechanic facility has experienced the same issue with this vehicle. Also strong odor of gas was experienced during shutoff.
Sunroof exploded It sounded like a bomb went off and had my inside cover been opened I don’t know if I would’ve veered off the road been injured or injured someone else in the process. As it is I don’t know where the big huge piece of glass went. I do have pictures I reported it to my insurance company and also to corporate Hyundai. I was shaken up until the next day.
SPONTANEOUS PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLOSION - SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT On October 12, 2025, at approximately 10:00 PM, while my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport was being driven on Interstate 85 near Greenville, South Carolina, the panoramic sunroof spontaneously exploded without any external impact or warning. What Happened: - My son was traveling at highway speed in normal driving conditions and he said it sounded a shotgun being shot at close range. The explosion created a period of dangerous distraction. - There was NO impact from road debris, rocks, or any external object - The sunroof suddenly and violently shattered, making a loud explosive sound - A few tempered glass fragments entered the passenger cabin, by the vast majority blew out of the vehicle. - The incident created an immediate safety hazard for vehicle occupants and for other vehicles who may have been following. - Visibility was not compromised, but due to glass exploding, my son had to drive on the shoulder of the Interstate at a slow speed with his hazard lights on in order to make it safely to an exit. Safety Concerns: - Sudden Loss of Structural Integrity - The sunroof exploded outward without warning - Glass in Passenger Cabin - Tempered glass fragments fell into the vehicle, endangering occupants - Driver Distraction - The sudden explosion and noise created a dangerous distraction at highway speed - Visibility Impairment - Glass debris and the sudden opening affected visibility - Weather Exposure - Immediate exposure to wind and weather elements at highway speed - Ongoing Safety Risk - This defect affects thousands of vehicles still on the road What Did NOT Happen: - No collision or impact with another vehicle - No road debris struck the vehicle - No rocks or projectiles hit the sunroof - No hail or weather-related damage - No recent sunroof operation or manipulation - No aftermarket modifications or repairs This was a spontaneous failure of a defective component during normal vehicle operation.
I bought this car a 2017 in December 2023. The first time I got the oil change they told me there’s no oil on a stick and then couple months later again no oil on the stick so I took it to my personal mechanic. He said there is an oil consumption problem so you advise me to take it where I bought it from. I had to go up there for 1000 mile test and then a 500 mile which I was low. Seems like every two weeks I had to put oil in it so where I brought the vehicle from told me to go to Hyundai. Hyundai only did one oil consumption test. I have a records of oil changes from Valvoline, my personal mechanic, Tradition Ford and one from Hyundai. Tradition Ford, where I got the car from with disappointment because I had a lot of proof that I was burning oil. There was no leak. There was no smoke at all. Besides it being under 10 years old, I was under 100,000 mile warranty and I had an extended warranty. tradition Ford where I bought it from took that one back however I lost $7000 from the down payment. I bought new tires for it, new battery, remote starter, spark, plugs, and rain guards. I still have all my papers from that vehicle 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport 2.4 engine liter.
In May 2025, the vehicle (2017 Hyundai Santa Fe) developed severe sluggishness. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and I was told the engine would need to replaced due to a recall. Four months later (week of Sept 14 {exact date not known}), the engine was replaced and the vehicle made available for pickup. I drove it home (8.1 miles) and all seemed normal. It sat in the driveway for approx. one week. On Sept 22, 2025, I drove to the store (8.4 miles round-trip). On the way to the store, the engine light came on. I immediately called the dealership and reported the problem. The car was taken in that night (a trip of 8.1 miles) and left at the dealership. On Sept 23, 2025, I was informed that the intake manifold needed to be replaced (this had caused the engine light to come on) at my cost of approx $1000. The car remains at the dealership (unused by me). Online research revealed that if debris had been found in the manifold, it was to be replaced along with the engine (Hyundai TSB #22-EM-010H DATE JULY 2022). The following has been cut-and-pasted from the web: The issue of the intake manifold not being replaced or cleaned after an engine failure is a direct result of the core defect. When the old engine failed, it likely shed metallic debris and shrapnel. That debris could have traveled into other components, including the intake manifold. If the manifold is not cleaned or replaced, the new engine draws that old metallic debris back in, causing it to fail again almost immediately. NHTSA indirectly mandated that the repair must be COMPLETE AND EFFECTIVE. When a dealership refuses a critical part of that repair (like cleaning the manifold), they are effectively carrying out an incomplete remedy to a safety recall, which is a violation of the manufacturer's federal obligation under the Consent Order. It is my contention that residual debris in the intake manifold caused the warning light and will quite possibly damage the new engine.
This car has oil consumption issues due to a manufacturer defect, design of the engine 2.4L. This has been on going for the last three years and is getting worse. Now is affecting the catalytic converter because of it burning so much oil. The Hyundai dealership will do nothing for me. Now they want $4,500 for a new catalytic converter. I can’t afford a new car and this should be an expense of Hyundai. In my research I have found there are thousands of cars on the road with this issue. They knew about this years ago and just kept making the cars and selling them . They should be helping me and all they are doing is denying that this has a problem. What recourse do I have. Why hasn’t there been a recall?
back up camera operates very erratically. some times it works properly, some of the time it is very slow to engage. other times it comes on after i have completed my rearward movement, and some times it comes on after shifting into drive. then there are times t never comes on. i spoke to a dealer tech and was told there are a lot of them like that. if i wanted to spend about $900, they might be able to fix it. this has been going on for a couple of years.
2017 Santa Fe, car had fire in 09/2024 and was with dealership until 05/2025. BSD, ABS, TRACTION, and Parking Brake lights on the dash when vehicle was picked up. Dealership not complaint to pay as the assume it is an Outside issue
All of a sudden my liftgate in the back will not stay up. The pistons for the liftgate are no longer working on either side, so kind of strange as they don't usually go like that Thank you [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
From the day we purchased this used vehicle, the check engine light came on. We had to have the catalytic converter replaced next. Now we’re having oil leak issues. Multiple oil leaks have been repaired, and I’ve most recently paid over $700 to have this issue resolved. A week after the Hyundai dealership repaired it, the vehicle is leaking oil again. We have to add oil about every 5-7 days. Today we were told that my [XXX] daughter needs to drive it until the engine goes out, and not to add any oil. This is not only unacceptable, it’s also unsafe! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The engine had no oil. No indication was given by the dashboard lights. I heard a ticking noise soon after I started my car. My husband checked the oil; it was bone dry. I still had 200 more miles before my next oil change. Needless to say, the engine would have blown up if I hadn’t payed attention to the noise coming from the vehicle. In fact, this happened about a year ago, I just thought it was a fluke. Since this is the second incident, this is not a fluke and something needs to be done. We can’t afford to have a vehicle blow up on us. There was no sign of leaking on the driveway.
On April 28, 2025 my car cut off in the middle of traffic. I turned the car completely off. I was able to turn it back on and move it out of traffic. I called my mechanic and he looked at it, He checked the oil and there was oil I'm it. He drove it around a parking lot and heard a rattling noise, He tried to get it to his shop, the rattling got louder and louder, He was scared the engine would lock up, We parked it and had to have it towed to my residence. In the last 6-8 months I had to put oil in my car EVERY week. I have taken to mi mechanic several times checking for leaks. I have been to the dealer checking to see if they there has been any recalls. Due to this situation I have NO transportation. I am already financially struggling and now I have to figure out what to do I have already paid out of pocket for the ABS to be replaced as well. My sun roof I cannot open due to the rollers r stop working. This has worst experience I have has with a brand new car, I previously owned a Hyundai and had a wonderful experience.
The engine in my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe (VIN [XXX] ) began knocking, losing power, and showing signs of imminent failure. These symptoms directly match those identified in Recall #168 (NHTSA Campaign 17V578000), which involves engine bearing wear due to crankshaft irregularities in Hyundai 3.3L GDI engines. However, my VIN is not currently included in the recall batch. Hyundai has denied engine replacement under warranty or goodwill, citing a gap in oil change records between 5,000 and 45,000 miles — mileage which occurred before I purchased the vehicle used at ~60,000 miles. I have since performed multiple oil changes, though not always on a tight schedule. The vehicle is now at ~89,000 miles and located at Murdock Hyundai of Logan, UT, where technicians confirmed the engine is failing. This defect poses a serious safety concern due to the risk of sudden power loss while driving. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by Hyundai service technicians, but they declined coverage and repair despite the failure matching a known federal recall issue. There were no warning lamps initially; the knocking and loss of power began subtly, then worsened rapidly. The vehicle is available for inspection, and all failure symptoms are consistent with others affected by Recall #168. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this VIN for potential inclusion in the recall and take action to expand the recall scope, as this appears to be the same dangerous engine defect already recognized under federal recall. The engine on my car was consuming oil at a rapid rate. The dealer service department gave me the run around for many month. Stating they could never duplicate the issue. when clearly the whitish blue smoke pouring out of tailpipe and horrible combustion fumes inside cabin of car. At some point bluish smoke turned to black smoke and that when the $800 combustion test was suggested. Which they say will tell me if the engine is bad. how do they not know the signs of a bad engine. my car sat in service department for 2 months for them to say it's not covered under warranty. I tried everything to hold the manufacture responsible and they was unwilling to budge and help. The car has the extended warranty and my car was under the mileage and years. My car been sitting in my driveway since May 2024 needing a engine replacement. The fumes in cabin of vehicle was unbearable which cause me to have to drive with window down. Vehicle never show any warning lights when engine oil was low or empty. another incident was with the radio not turning off even after the battery went died. The radio continue to work and connect to phone when battery was died. After charging battery radio would again kill battery and not shut off. The only way it would shut off is to disconnect radio. How dealer explained the issue was that of a modem. That the car probably need to be reset when radio was disconnected it worked. But after that it happen 3 more times. these cars need to be recalled and all customer should get there money back. To own a 2005 Santa Fe with over 216,000 miles with no oil burning / leaking or smoke out tailpipe say a lot on the manufacturing of this vehicle. I have no mechanical issues with this car and that was the reason i wanted to upgrade to 2017. Now I wish I had never brought the 2017. Beware before buying this brand because they are no good.
Backup camera and it is available for inspection. I had the car in the dealership for 2 recalls July 3. When I picked up the car backup camera was blank. Dealership states it was a coincidence and nothing they did. Immediately took the car back for repair. I was told they don't know what's wrong., they checked the wiring all good, replaced the camera and it still didn't work. I've been in contact for weeks with Hyundia they don't have any answers yet.
The engine seized due to an issue with the oil plug and another part, leading to a lack of oil in the system. The vehicle is currently with Hyundai and available for inspection upon request. How Safety Was Put at Risk: While driving on the highway, I suddenly lost acceleration (below 40mphs). I was forced to pull over to the left side of the highway where it was shallow, where I risked being hit by passing vehicles until there was a safe break in traffic, allowing me to maneuver to an exit. This created a hazardous situation for both myself and other drivers. Reproduction or Confirmation of the Problem: The issue has been confirmed by an independent automotive technician, who diagnosed the problem as a blown engine caused by a lack of oil. The vehicle is now with Hyundai for further inspection. Inspection by Others: The vehicle has been inspected by an independent service center and is currently being inspected by Hyundai. No other parties, such as the police or insurance representatives, have been involved. Warning Lamps or Messages Prior to Failure: The only warning sign prior to the incident was the check engine light blinking at the time of the failure. There were no other warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the engine seized. The vehicle was within the oil range limit of 7,500 miles at the time of the incident. Additional Notes: The incident occurred suddenly, without prior warning or indication of an issue. Based on the diagnosis and known issues with the oil plug, I believe this failure was caused by a defect.
While driving down the road at around 50 mph with no one in front of us, we heard a loud bang above us, and our Panoramic Sunroof exploded. I continued driving to reach a safe area to pull off and look at the damage, and saw glass flying away behind me into oncoming traffic. When surveying the vehicle, there was a large whole in the middle of the panoramic sunroof. It seems to have simply exploded, as there were no cars in front of us and nothing could have hit the vehicle at the time. We were able to pull off safely and cover the hole with cardboard and duct tape to get home safely. However this is a huge safety risk. Had we been on the interstate, we would have had to drive for miles with a blown out sunroof creating unsafe conditions for ourselves and other drivers. Hyundai (so far) will not warranty this as part of their extended warranty even though there are numerous class action lawsuits against them for this part being defective. I believe that Hyundai should be held responsible for exploding panoramic sunroofs. This is not the first incident they have had as it seems to be a regular occurrence.
While driving a 1/2 second squeal came from engine compartment. Motor immediately stopped. No power steering or brakes. Vehicle is available for inspection. We were on an interstate We coasted to shoulder. There issue is frequent on Internet forums. A trusted mechanic old us the engine was totally seized. Could be turned manually. No oil in crankcase. At this time only aforementioned mechanic has inspected the vehicle. No warning sounds or performance changes prior to incident. No warning lights or notice warnings were seen prior coincident.
Current mileage is 80,000. For the last 30,000 miles the engine oil burns or leaks within a month of it being changed. When I return to the shop to get yet another oil change. They investigate for leaks and find nothing. They end up topping it off vs charging me. As I barely put a hundred miles on the vehicle since the last change. Even when I barely drive between oil changes, I end up checking the stick frequently to ensure it’s not leaking or burning oil until the next change. Yet it always does. It also randomly acts like it doesn’t want to start. Doesn’t matter if it’s cold, hot or normal kind of day. Take it to dealer or auto repair shop for a diagnostic check and nothing is found. They check the starter, circuits, battery, and alternator. Nothing. This happens multiple times a yr. I’ve never owned a vehicle that does this before. Even my old 200+ mile vehicle never did this. This Hyundai is only 7 yrs old and under 85,000 miles. It’s baffling.
While getting up to speed on the freeway the full sunroof exploded. IT sounde like a bomb was going off and the entire sunrrof broke.
Purchased Vehicle 6/2022 has had an electrical problem since day one randomly does not start and must be jumped. I have taken in 2 times only to be told there is nothing wrong. I called Hyundai Corporate to see what steps I should take to resolve issues was told to take car in a third time and again told nothing wrong. A new battery was placed two months after my purchase date. And again this past February and issues still exist. Was given two option should problem not be resolved 1) Buy back vehicle 2) replace with different vehicle. Both options have been withdrawn. Explanation car has been on the road to long. I put $13500 down and have made payments for 2 years. There is still $12000 on the loan. Is there anything I can do to recoup at least my down-payment. I am a senior on social security and a part time job in which i am a caregiver and do not feel safe driving this vehicle. I and do not have a down payment to trade the car in. I do not want the vehicle there are other issues starting and with a parasitic draw there are bound to be additional issues down the road. Can you help please. Expected ResolutionHyundai take car back and return my down payment so I can purchase a reliable vehicle o Additionally just recently discovered vehicle was in 2 accidents which this information was never disclosed. I would not have purchased had I known.
I was driving down the highway when my vehicle shut off. After pulling off on the highway and opening the hood, there was a notice that the engine had overheated. Upon inspection, there was no oil nor any coolant left in the engine. I have records to demonstrate regular maintenance, and oil changes every 5000 miles
We noticed that we had our airbag light was on in our dashboard along with that we also notice that the buttons and horn did not work in to the steering wheel. When we took the car to get checked by the Hyundai dealership in Lakewood. We were told that the clock spring was the cause of this problem to the airbag, horn, and the buttons not working. They told us that this clock spring part it was broken and it needed to be replaced. Our concern is the number one safety which making sure that all of the airbag and horn to be working. When this was communicated to the dealership person he response was that he could not say anything much about other then him saying that it was not under warranty and it was due to the mile of the car. Which I the moment we told them we totally understand about warranty and miles to the car but the safety of someone should not be put at risk just because of one part that connects all of this things. To us this is safety concern due to the airbag and horn not working. We are not sure by us reporting this would be something can be considered for a recall or be done about without costing any money to those who own a vehicle like this.
My Ex and I purchased a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Ultimate 3.3L engine. We always took the vehicle to the dealership for any and all services. We paid off our loan on the vehicle mid 2022. In December of 2022, the vehicle died. No warning lights or signs of damage. Beginning of 2023 I had the vehicle towed to the dealership. I was told that the engine needed replaced. After researching, I discovered 420 of the same vehicle had been under RECALL campaign 168. I believe wholeheartedly that my VIN was missed during this recall, as the engine in my vehicle died for the exact same reason as the other 420 vehicles. This is a recall! I’ve been in contact with Hyundai and told that because the vehicle is no longer under “warranty”, it will not be covered. However, Federal Law says that any vehicle with a recall is covered for 15 years after the first purchase of the vehicle. I did approve repairs because when you pay off a vehicle, you hope that the corporate office of Hyundai will honor the contract of following through with recalls. I’m in the process of getting disability. Im having surgery on my Back Nov. 2nd. I’ve been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder this year and have many follow up appts and physical therapy that I have not been able to make the appts due to not having a vehicle. In April, my ex was going through some mental health issues and kicked me out. I’ve been staying at a family members Airbnb but it’s 1 hour away from all of my doctors. I feel that Hyundai is not honoring the Recall because they missed my VIN during their initial inspections of the defective parts. Many other complaints of Engine issues have been posted on the NTSB website along with my own. A Hyundai rep that I spoke to today suggested I contact the BBB in hopes there is something you could help me with. I feel this is a huge disruption in my life as I should be focusing on my health, however I have no means of transportation, even after paying off the car. I purchased this vehicle 05/05/2019 as a certified pre-owned vehicle from the dealership. I have kept regular maintenance on the car. Three same day of purchase, the engine quit as I was driving it. I was making a left hand turn and it quit while I was in the intersection. My children were in the car. Hyundai replaced the engine, but about a year and half later, that engine did the exact same thing. This time I was coming off the freeway. I can't imagine the possibilities if this had happened while on the freeway. Now, the engine is making the same sound as with the first two engines. I took it to Hyundai, and they claim it's normal. The car has issues where I will be trying to safely merge into traffic and it will hesitate. There are multiple intermittent issues that occur, but the scariest is knowing how the first two engines felt/ran and sounded prior to their failure, and once again experiencing those exact issues. How many times should an engine have to be replaced in a four year period? It is very likely that one of my children could be fatally injured depending on where we happen to be when this most recent engine fails, because it will - guaranteed. Online forums are full of thousands of people who purchased vehicles from Hyundai that have the EXACT same issue. No check engine warning. Just a rough sounding engine, and then it will just quit as they're driving. Something needs to be done. Lastly, June 18th, 2023 I had a collision with another vehicle. I collided with another vehicle, my front end to the other drivers driver's side. My air bags did not deploy. Nobody was injured, but I truly feel my airbags should have went off for the amount of damage to my front end. Pictures will be included.
ABS light, passenger air bag light and skid light came on. Passenger airbag light flashes whenever car is in drive
On my 2017 Santa Fe equipped with a power lift gate, when the power struts start to fail, it is without warning and intermittent. The lift gate will fully open, then suddenly drop down about a foot before stopping striking the top of the head. At first the drop down would occur several seconds later when one was already under the lift gate and bump the head when moving back. This started about 2 months ago. Hyundai had to replace both power struts where the total job cost just over $1,700.00. The part were $1,244.08. Although I took a video of this with my cell phone, it is too large to email to my Gmail or AOL inbox. Eventually the lift gate could fail completely possible trapping a small person under same.
Had oil changed July 5, 2023, Aug. 14 check engine light came on. Took it to shop and was told Hyundai vehicles are burning oil in the engine and the diagnostic code came back as Catalytic Convert and had to add oil. Have oil spots all over my drive so was told to check oil and make sure it's not low and see if light comes back on. Repair shop checked for recalls and found none for this car, yet. Daughter has 2013 Kia Rio with same problem for past couple of years. Why do recalls take so long?
On May 2023, while my husband was taking my daughter to go to school with 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, he noticed engine knocking noises emanating from the engine compartment. Shortly after, the vehicle's performance significantly deteriorated, and the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard, and the engine shut down. Get the car towed to the nearest auto service, the mechanic told me that there’s an engine failure as result of abnormal oil consumption causing internal damage and need to be fixed by Hyundai. I called Hyundai USA, and was told that in order to have it covered under the warranty, it needed to be repaired by an authorized dealer. However, no authorized dealer had an available appointment for at least 2 months. Finally after 2 months, I had the car towed to the authorized Hyundai service center for diagnosis and repairs. Upon examination by the certified technicians at the Hyundai service center, I was informed that it needs and engine replacement that will cost around $20,000. I called Hyundai Corporation and had escalated my case to the case manager, but the manager never called back to give me an update. Their customer service department is also frustrating to deal with. They just sort of repeat the same phrases over and over again rather than having any sort of actual conversation with you. It's been more than 2 months after the incident and they finally they can’t do anything about it because it’s outside of warranty. It’s very frustrating
2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4L automatic, took the car in for recall service. The following recall services were completed: (23-01-014H-5), (23-01-004H), (20-01-006H), (#17-01-050), (17-01-002). Service completed on 07/25/23, car was in perfect working order prior to recall service. Picked car up from dealer on the afternoon of 07/25/23, drove about 5 miles home. Next day (07/26/23), drove car about 20 miles and engine light came on. Took back to dealership 07/26/23 at about 3pm, stated nothing they did would cause engine light to come on and wanted me to leave with vehicle without checking it. Said 8/1/23 would be the earliest the could look at it to even check the code. Refused to leave with car in that state so they did check the code and stated it was a catalytic converter code and that mine might be going out. Stated that nothing was wrong with my car prior to recall services. Then they asked if my engine light was on before I brought it in for the recall service, I stated no. Then they said it could be the engine software update reading something wrong and cleared code. Told me to drive vehicle and if it came on again to bring it back. Drove car home again which is about a 5 mile distance. Did not drive car next day (07/27/23. Drove car on 07/28/23 for about 20 minutes and the engine light came back on. Called the dealership and they stated they would call me back but never did. Called the national Hyundai customer service number and explained the situation. Gave me a claim number and stated a case manager would contact me in 3-5 days. Called the dealership again on 07/31/23, and left another message with the service person but they did not return my call again. Called on 8/1/23 and asked for the service manager who stated earliest they can look at my car again is 8/7/23. Have not been contacted by a case manager yet as of 8/1/23. Hyundai forams online clearly state other owners having same issue as mine after having the Hyundai software updates completed.
While driving down a California freeway, the sunroof of my wife's 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport exploded without warning. Glass rained down on my niece and nephew in the backseat and caused my wife to swerve a bit in surprise. Luckily there was no one else on the road and no one was hurt by the glass. She was not near anyone or anything, plus nothing fell into the backseat so we know that it wasn't anything that impacted the glass causing it to break. Upon further review, this is a problem with Hyundai vehicles and it looks like they are the subject of multiple class-action lawsuits for it. This is the second time something like this has happened. In 2016, my wife was leasing a Sonata and the sunroof exploded unprovoked. The dealership took responsibility that time and one of the mechanics stated that it was "a known issue".
Hyundai corporate's engines on some vehicles has oil dissipating out of thin air. 2 to 3 quarts of oil can vanish between regular interval oil changes. Hyundai is lying saying that this is "normal." It is not. The other issue is the oil indicator light may just pop on and off but it does not stay on when the vehicle has several quarts of oil that dissipated not warning the driver they have a serious problem. This leads to a safety concern because the vehicle could just stop working because the driver has no idea the oil is low. I urge the NHTSA to take action on this since so many vehicles with Hyundai are affected. Thank you.
Hello. I don't know if this is even something you look into, but I wanted to see. Yesterday when I came home from work my oil light came on and all of my oil suddenly dumped in the driveway. I am thankful I was at home because this could have been a nightmare somewhere else. I had my car towed and was advised that the rear main seal needs replaced as well as the oil pan gasket. I don't know if this is a safety issue, but if my engine would have seized on the highway that could have been a nightmare. Oil maintenance has been at regular intervals. There was no warning until my light came on in the driveway and then the immediate dump of oil. I'm happy to answer any other questions. Thank you. Brooke
Engine failure occurred. Engine began making a knocking noise. The check engine light failed to initiate. No warning lights of any kind came on.
It’s not a accident The car won’t start and brake and wheels keep locking by itself.
Car began to smoke from engine compartment. Stopped car in a driving lane on interstate 78 where construction barriers had closed both shoulders. Car then burst into flames. Car was a total loss before fire trucks were able to arrive. Just prior to the fire the Warning light for the abs system malfunction appeared on the dashboard.
My Hyundai Santa Fe 2017 has an acceleration / pedal issue which has left me stranded in the middle of traffic several times. This is a safety concern as it has left my acceleration unresponsive on highway at times. It takes about 60-90 seconds for the acceleration pedal to respond again. The issue does not seem to be at cold/warm conditions of the engine. No check-engine code nor fault codes have been prompted. I have taken to the dealership 4 times in Long Island with multiple revisions of the vehicle and they advise they have not been able to reproduce. The issue keeps coming back unpredictably and my vehicle is still under full warranty with less than 40k mileage. All of my family members have attested to this safety issue and I am dumbfounded that this has not been prompted as a safety recall / concern by Hyundai.
2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO PARTS BEING UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM SAFETY RECALL 218
My O2 sensor failed and is under my insurance investigation due to engine light that came on and upon inspection it was determined to have caught on fire under the vehicle. My safety and my children's were at risk potentially may have gone up in flames. Currently the insurance is pending review of any recalls for O2 sensor to determine if Hyundai is handling damages. At this time Hyundai has not taken responsibility.
Just received another letter from Hyundai (First one in Feb./March this one in June) telling me about the same problem with the ABS System and how it might short out and cause an engine fire. STILL NO REMEDY! The letter said I'd receive a second notice ...I guess they meant a third notice! What's taking so long to find a fix??? I'm supposed to be confident taking this vehicle on a trip knowing it may short out and cause a fire at any time while driving or parked!?? This is not acceptable.
Engine light came on took it to the dealer they told me that it had been looked at when they pulled the vehicle up to inspect the bottom the vehicle showed melted parts from the vehicle that are on sure what caused it
There is no incident that happened, but I am very upset with Hyundai. I found out about a recall on the news back in February and all that was said was to not park your car in a garage because it might catch on fire. It took Hyundai until late March to tell me there was a recall on my car. My local dealership told me about the recall and to schedule a service appointment. I thought, great, there is a solution. Come to find out, there is not yet. I think it is disgraceful to have a car that could catch fire and all I am being told is that I shouldn't park it in the garage. However, the recall says that it could catch on fire while I am driving too, so should I not drive it? How long is this going to go on? I am extremely upset with Hyundai Corporation. This is a big safety risk. I am a single mom and this is my only form of transportation.
There was no incident. I was in a chat with an NHTSA agent regarding the fact that the manufacturer has not provided a resolution. Until recently, your site indicated a date of 4/5 to correct this problem. I rec'd my first notice from the manufacturer on 4/4. It merely advised that there was a recall. No fix was given. I came back to NHTSA's website to see if there was any update. There was none, except the 4/5 date was no longer given. I then started a chat. The agent on the chat said everything was left up to the manufacturer. This is listed as an "urgent" recall, yet the manufacturer has provided no intended resolution for over two months. I asked the agent how I could file a complaint. She gave me this web address. As i stated, there has been no incident, yet.
My paint is peeling off in sheets.
Vehicle caught fire while driving on highway. The vehicle started to decelerate & would not go over 70 MPH. Driver pulled off at the next exit and turned the car off. She waited about 5 minutes and turned the vehicle back on, Vehicle was now normal, but still would not go over 70 MPH. There were no warning light or anything. Operating the vehicle 70 MPH for about 20 mins and then heard a clicking & banging. Vehicle started to losing speed. Driver turned on the flashers and the vehicle went to just under 45 MPH. Driver decided to merge to the upcoming rest stop. Vehicle then stopped just before the exit and driver got out of the vehicle she felt the hood. The hood was not hot, but saw smoke. Driver then grabbed the latch to open the hood & flames burst out from side to side. Driver put the hood down ran to removed her belongings out. A passerby called the police and vehicle was engulfed with flames.
my car feels like it is going to stall when i am sitting at a stop light. the tack drops like the motor is dying out and then picks back up. it has been doing this for awhile. i have an appointment with my local dealer 2/17/22 to take my car in
I bought the bait vehicle 8 months ago from my dealership. My car started driving rough. While it was in phase 2 of having a oil consumption test. My car has been using more oil than necessary. I took it to the dealership service department they said that the fuel injectors were bad and now it needs a new motor. They had to replace the fuel exhaust valves Austin valves but did not solve solve the issue of the car running rough running rough when it was running it would stall.
The engine had a catastrophic failure due to bearing failure with no advanced warning lights. The issue occurred while accelerating to merge into highway traffic. The engine had an immediate drop in power and produced a searing grinding noise. The drop in power forced my speed from 55 to 35 mph in a matter of secondS. I had to negotiate across 3 lanes of traffic in order to exit the highway to find a safe stop to contact roadside assistance. Some smoke was coming from the engine but no fire. Prior to the incident, the vehicle had been driven <3 miles in local stop/go traffic from a cold start. Roadside assistance towed to local Grayson Hyundai Dealer who inspected the engine and determined the bearing failure within two days. The check engine light came on at the same instance as the engine failure. There was no advanced warning even though Hyundai performed a recall that updated software to specifically detect and alert to potential failure. Car is still awaiting warranty repairs by dealer. Dealer will not provide any written details to me or provide any cost or timeline estimates for the repair. While the failure occurred within the manufacturer’s 5 year/60K mile warranty, the warranty has now expired in the 5 months it has been waiting to be repaired.
Car loses power when taking off and turning either direction, like when you are getting out into traffic. Very dangerous. Just when you need to accelerate it looses power for a few seconds. Traction control light comes on each time, very briefly. Happens at random times, so it is hard to duplicate and trouble shoot. Service Dept says even if it is a known problem, Hyundai will not fix (still in warranty) unless they can duplicate problem ON MY CAR! And they will charge $150 if it doesn't happen for them.
When making a sharp right turn and accelerating the car hesitates then catches and accelerates suddenly. It can be very scary when trying to turn onto a busy road. The issue is repeatable.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that upon turning the steering wheel in either direction, the steering wheel would remain seized in the turning position without warning. The contact stated that he manually adjusted the steering wheel to prevent the steering wheel from remaining seized in the turned position. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and an independent mechanic where the steering wheel was realigned; however, the failure returned after each repair. Brown-Daub Hyundai (3901 Hecktown Rd, Easton, PA 18045) was also notified of the failure but was unable to schedule an appointment. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

As I was driving on the freeway, I heard something that sounded like a bomb go off overhead. I safely pulled over and discovered that my panoramic sunroof had exploded. There were no other vehicles nearby that could have kicked up anything, especially because it was directly overhead. Thankfully I had the interior closed, but if it had been opened myself along with my 4 passengers (three who are young children) would have been covered in glass shards not to mention I could have ran into the wall or something else. Upon investigation, this is a known issue with Hyundai sunroofs. I have not yet been able to have anyone inspect it since it is Sunday. There were no warnings at all that this was going to happen.
Location: Apartment complex , driveway This morning I went to drop off my son at my parents place and when I made a U turn to turn around, the car accelerated on it’s own, I stepped on the brakes and it was too late, I hit the neighbors car on the corner and my right tire was on top of the sidewalk. Keep in mind the speed limit in the apartment complex is 5mph. I was going at 6mph and when the car accelerated it felt like if it was going 20mph! I bought my car last year on August 2020, since then my car has been giving signs of hesitations on the acceleration but never would of thought my car would actually drive off on its own. I have a 1yr old son and after this accident happen I don’t feel safe driving my car at all or even trust it at this point, I don’t want to be driving and it happens again and it could be worse.
I AM HAVING TO GET AN OIL CONSUMPTION EVERY 1000 MILES WHICH HAS ME CONCERNED.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND MY OIL LIGHT INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR AND WENT OFF AFTER I GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY PULLED OVER AT A GAS STATION. SO I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND AGAIN THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON SO I RECORDED IT ON MY CELL PHONE.I JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGED A WEEK PRIOR TO THIS. TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN MATTESON ILLINOIS WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM. AND GET ALL MY OIL CHANGES DONE ON THE VEHICLE. THEY CHECKED OUT MY VEHICLE AND SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T GET THE COMING ON WHEN THEY TOOK MY CAR ON A TEST DRIVE. SO I SHOW THE MECHANIC THE VIDEO I RECORDED ON MY PHONE. HE LOOKS AT THE VIDEO AND SAYS TO ME WELL IF THE OIL LIGHT COMES BACK ON BRING THE VEHICLE BACK. AND TELLS ME THE VEHICLE IS OK TO DRIVE AS IT IS. TWO DAYS LATER I'M RUNNING AN ARRON IN TRAFFIC ON A BUSY CITY STREET AND AS I'M DRIVING MY CAR STARTS JERKING AND STALLING AND A FLASHING ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD I PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CALLED HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT. BECAUSE I WAS CLOSE BY THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE PERSONNEL TOLD ME TO DRIVE THE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SO I DID. THEY TOLD ME MY ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. FOR THE SECOND TIME MIND YOU. 1ST TIME WAS A YEAR PRIOR. SO THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A WEEK AND 2DAYS. GET MY CAR BACK A WEEK LATER I'M DRIVING ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THE FLASHING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. SO I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE KNOCK SENSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THIS TIME. THEY REPAIR IT THE SAME DAY. MEAN WHILE WAITING I FIND AN VIDEO ON YOU TUBE ABOUT THE VERY PROBLEM I WAS HAVING WITH MY VEHICLE. BUT IT'S FROM THE HYUNDAI MANUFACTURES ABOUT THE 2014-2018 SANTA FE ,SONATA AND TUSON VEHICLE ABOUT KNOWN MALFUNCTIONS AND PROBLEMS THESE VEHICLES ARE HAVING AND WOULD HAVE. SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THESE ARE NOT RECALLS. NOW AGAIN YESTERDAY 1/16/21

MY VEHICLE WILL PERIODICALLY STALL WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP. VIN DOES NOT SHOW RECALLS, BUT THERE ARE RECALLS FOR OTHER 2017 SANTA FE VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. MY VEHICLE WAS MADE IN 2017,THE RECALL WAS IN NOVEMBER 2017; THEREFORE I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING THAT A RECALL IS WARRANTED AS THE PARTS WOULD HAVE BEEN USED TO MAKE IT. THIS CAN LITERALLY INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. I WILL ALSO BE CONTACTING HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE.
THE V6 2017 SANTA FE SUV IS ADVERTISED IN MANY CAR MAGAZINES AND BY HYUNDAI TO TOW 5,000. LBS. I TOLD THE SALES MANAGER THE SPECS OF MY CAMPER. HE SAID IT WOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM TOWING MY CAMPER THAT WEIGHS 3,200. I SAID IF YOU GET IT PREPARED FOR TOWING, MEANING, HITCH, BRAKE BOX AND WIRE FOR LIGHTS, I WILL BUY IT. THE DEAL WAS MADE. I TOWED A FEW TIMES THEN HAD A BAD SHAKING IN THE REAR. THE SERVICE MANAGER TRIED TO TELL ME I WAS TOWING TOO MUCH WEIGHT. IMPOSSIBLE. IT'S JUST ME AND A SMALL DOG. I ARGUED WITH ALLEN TURNER HYUNDAI IN PENSACOLA, FL AND THE CORPORATE OFFICE. THEY BELIEVED WHAT THE DEALERSHIP SAID. I TOLD THEM I CAN GO WEIGH IT ALL ON DOT SCALES TO PROVE IT. SO THEY ENDED UP FIXING IT THAT TIME. I DIDN'T TOW FOR AWHILE BECAUSE OF COVID. THE FIRST TIME I DID, ON THE WAY HOME IT STARTED SHAKING. I GO TO THE DEALER. HE TOLD ME THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS SEPARATING INSIDE. IT WOULD NEED ALIGNMENT AND STRUTS. THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PAY FOR IT EVEN WITH THE CAR WITH LOW MILES STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY OFFERED ME SOMETHING OFF THEIR USED LOT. WHICH I CONSIDERED IF IT HAD THE SAFETY FEATURES THAT I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT ON MY SANTA FE. NO, THEY OFFERED A BASIC SMALL TRUCK. I'M OLDER AND I HAVE GOTTEN USED TO THE SAFETY FEATURES. THE SALESMAN TALKED DOWN TO ME, TRIED TO INTIMIDATE ME AND PRACTICALLY CALLED ME STUPID. I WAS SUPPOSED TO SEE THE SERVICE MANAGER BUT HE DISMISSED ME . I'VE BOUGHT THREE CARS FROM THIS DEALER USING THE SAME SALESMAN. THEN WHEN I HAVE A PROBLEM THEY TREAT ME LIKE THIS. I HAVE TESTIMONIES FROM OTHER CAMPER TRAILER HAULERS WITH THE SAME CAR THAT EVEN TOW A HIGHER WEIGHT CAMPER. THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS. I WILL ATTACH PHOTOS OF THEIRS ALSO. THANK YOU [XXX] WHEN I'M TOWING IT ALL SOUNDS GOOD AND WORKS GOOD. I WOULDN'T KNOW THE CAMPER WAS BACK THERE. ON THE INTERSTATE, PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES. RPM WENT UP TO 5000 BUT SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION INTO SPORTS MODE AND DOWNSHIFTING AND UPSHIFTING MADE NO DIFFERENCE IN THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. SPEED REMAINED THE SAME, ENGINE ROARED AS IF IN NEUTRAL. I PULLED OFF THE INTERSTATE, CUT OFF THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, RETURNED TO THE INTERSTATE AND COULD ACCELERATE. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN 2017 AND 2018 BOTH ON THE HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS. IN 2018, TAKEN TO PEARSON HYUNDAI AND COULD NOT BE FIXED BECAUSE NO ERROR CODES. AFTER A DANGEROUS, IDENTICAL INCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE IN MAY 2019, TAKEN TO PEARSON HYUNDAI. THEY PERFORMED A TCU AND ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE MAY 21, 2019. THIS LATEST INCIDENT IS A REPEAT OF THE MAY 2019 PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE BUT OCCURS ON BOTH HIGHWAY AND STREET SPEEDS. THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WE ALSO OWN A 2016 SANTA FE SPORT TURBO AWD THAT HAS NOT HAD ANY OF THESE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. CHANGES WERE MADE IN THE 2017 MODEL YEAR TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION THAT ARE IMPACTING ACCELERATION.

WHEN I DRIVE GOING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 40 TO 48 MPH ON ECO MODE OR ANY DRIVE MODE THE CAR JUMPS/ JERKS LIKE IT SHIFTS INTO A LOW GEAR AND THEN GOES BACK INTO A HIGH GEAR WITH NO HEAVY ACCELERATION. IF I HAVE IT ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 45MPH IT WILL KICK BACK AND FORTH OCCASIONALLY AS IF I WAS SLAMMING ON THE GAS PEDAL THEN SLIGHTLY ON THE BREAK BUT QUICKLY.

OIL IS VANISHING FROM THE VEHICLE. FOR EVERY 1000 MILES THERE IS A PINT OF OIL MISSING FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE HYUNDAI MUTIPLE TIMES. HYUNDAI CAN NOT FIND ANY ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS IS CONCERING BECUASE THE VEHICLE CAN BREAK DOWN ON A LONG ROAD TRIP WITHOUT CONSANT OIL CHECKS AND REFILLING DURING THE TRIP. HYUNDAI HAS YET TO REPLACE THE MOTOR OR RESOLVE THE ISSUE. NO OIL LEAK LOCATED IT APPEARS THE OIL IS JUST GOING MISSING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.

THERE IS A LEAK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE COMING FROM UNKNOWN DEFECT. EVERY TIME IT RAINS, WATER DRIPS FROM UNDER THE DASH TO THE FLOOR CLOSE TO THE FRAME OF THE CAR.
OVER ONE MONTH AGO, MY GPS VIEWER SHOWED A WRONG TIME. I RESET THE CLOCK AND EXITED THE FEATURE. THE CLOCK QUIT APPEARING ON THE SCREEN. AT FIRST I DIDN'T NOTICE IT. THEN WHEN I DID, I WASN'T ABLE TO ENTER THE PROGRAM TO SET THE CLOCK: IT WAS ALL DARK ON THE CHOICES. I READ BOTH MY MANUALS AND NOTHING IN THEM TALKED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I HAD SEVERAL FRIENDS READ THE MANUAL AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY INFORMATION TO FIX THIS EITHER. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND HAVE IT FIXED AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS. THE SECOND TIME I CAME TO THE DEALER, THE TECHNICIAN ORDERED THE WHOLE HEAD UNIT AND THEY SAID I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE ORDER. IT'S ABOUT 4-5 WEEKS NOW AND I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING. I CALLED LAST WEEK AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO ETA FOR IT. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE.

SOMETIMES IT WORKED AND SOMETIMES IT DIDN'T. MINE DIDN'T. NO ONE CONTACTED ME TO ALERT ME TO THE PROBLEM (SAID MAYBE A CELL TOWER ISSUE WHEN I WAS AT THE DEALERS). I HAVE TO ACCESS MY FITBIT TO GET THE TIME WHICH REQUIRES SQUEEZING THE SIDES OF IT AND SOMETIMES SCROLLING IT. NOT SUPPOSE TO USE YOUR CELL PHONE FOR SAFETY, BUT MESSING WITH MY FITBIT UNDER MY JACKET IS JUST AS BAD. WHY WEREN'T WE NOTIFIED. GOOGLE SHOWS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME NOW. I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN AND MAY NOT BE USING CORRECT TERMS FOR THE GPS STUFF. WHILE IN MOTION THE VEHICLE EITHER BRAKES OR BACKFIRES. THE JERKING MOTION IS SO HARD THAT I THOUGHT I WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. THE CAR CONTINUES TO DRIVE BUT ACCELERATION RATE SLOWS DRASTICALLY CAUSING NEAR MISSES AS WELL. THE TRACTION CONTROL AND DOWNHILL SHIFTING LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON UNTIL YOU TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON. SO FAR THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES IN BOTH NORMAL AND ECONOMY DRIVE MODES WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE/HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 50 AND 70 MPH.

ON MAY 31ST I PURCHASE A NEW SANTA FE SPORT AWD 2017 - 21 DAYS AFTER DRVING THE CARD THE DASHBOARD LIGHT WHERE COMING ON FOR TRACKING CONTROL AND DOWNWARD SHIFTING - WHEN I ORIGINALLY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD MAYBE I WENT THROUGH A LARGE PUDDLE IF THEY COME ON AGAIN CALL THEM BACK - WITHIN THREE HOURS OF HANGING UP THE PHONE THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN - I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP - AND BROUGHT THE CAR IN THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR A MONTH STATING A MASTER TECHNICIAN FROM HYUNDAI WAS LOOKING INTO IT, BUT THEY SEE WHERE THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE SHIFT. BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO TELL ME THE ISSUE BUT IT SEEMED TO BE CURED FOR. WHILE I WAS DRIVING LAST WEEK ON THE HIGHWAY I HEAR A THUMPING SOUND, I THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT TIRE - PULLED OVER NO FLAT - I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE AND THE SOUND CAME BACK - I IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND BROUGHT IT BACK TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP - THE MECHANIC SHOP INFORMED ME THAT THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE AND SHAFT JOINT WAS BROKEN AND THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE - I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO CONFIRMED THE SAME ISSUE AND REPLACED THE PARTS REQUIRED - THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS VERY POSSIBLE THAT WAS THE REASON WHY THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ARE COMING ON ORIGINALLY - THE CARD IS BRANCH NEW AND DID NOT EVEN MAKE THREE MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP - I CONTACTED HYUNDAI ORIGINALLY AND MADE A COMPLAINT FOR THE DASHBOARD ,LIGHTS BUT NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY - I SENT AN ADDITIONAL EMAIL IN REGARDS TO THE NEW ISSUE AND INFORMED THEM THAT THEY SHOULD CHECK TO SEE IF PERHAPS THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF THE CARD IS ARE EXPERIENCING A MANUFACTURING DEFECT ----- I ALSO INFORMED THEM THAT I COULD HAVE DIED IF THIS AXLE FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. - I THINK THERE NEED TO AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE MATTER BEFORE SOMEONE DOES END UP DYING

WHEN THE CAR START AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND SLOWLY ACCELERATES WHILE DRIVING, THERE IS A SOUND IN THE CAR. I HEAD A SOUND FROM THE ENGINE OR MUFFLER.
CAR HAS SERIOUS, DANGEROUS ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. IT'S MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN TURNING LEFT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CAR APPEARS TO LOSE ALL POWER WHEN ACCELERATING - HANGING FOR SECONDS WHILE NOTHING HAPPENS. ENGINE HITS REDLINE ALL THE TIME AND IT BARELY GAINS SPEED. CALLED DEALER AND WAS FIRST TOLD "DUAL CLUTCH WILL LEARN DRIVING STYLE." AFTER NOTING CAR HAS 2K MILES WAS THEN TOLD "THE DELAY IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THAT CAR." THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. I'VE ALMOST BEEN T-BONED MULTIPLE TIMES BECAUSE OF THIS. GOOGLING LED ME TO MANY OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.

MY BRAND NEW 2017 SANTA FE LIMITED HESITATES BADLY WHEN COMING OUT OF TURNS AT A SLOW SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE...JUST SHORT OF COMING TO A STOP. IT ALSO OCCURS WHEN VEHICLE IS AT A STOP THEN I STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE LAGS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ENTER TRAFFIC OR THE VEHICLE COULD BE HIT FROM BEHIND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AND IT MOMENTARILY DOES NOT RESPOND. THIS OCCURS EACH TIME I DRIVE IT.
APPLE CARPLAY COMPLETELY DISABLES ALL OF THE VEHICLE'S NATIVE AUDIO WARNINGS AND ALERTS WHEN IT IS IN USE. IN OTHER WORDS, IF ONE IS LISTENING TO MUSIC, USING SIRI, OR MAKING A PHONE CALL THROUGH CARPLAY, NONE OF THE CAR'S BUILT-IN SAFETY FEATURES WORK AS DESIGNED; THE AUDIO IS SILENCED AND CARPLAY COMPLETELY TAKES OVER THE AUDIO SYSTEM. THIS WOULD INCLUDE BLIND SPOT MONITORING, LANE DEPARTURE MONITORING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE, CROSS-TRAFFIC ALERT, ETC.. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WITH CARPLAY IN USE; IF HYUNDAI'S NATIVE SOFTWARE IS CONTROLLING THE SYSTEM AND THE PHONE IS ONLY CONNECTED THROUGH BLUETOOTH, THE SYSTEMS FUNCTION NORMALLY. HYUNDAI MAKES NO REFERENCE TO THIS IN THEIR MANUALS AND SEEMS TO BE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM. APPLE DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY PRODUCT SUPPORT FOR CARPLAY WHATSOEVER. THIS IS A CASE OF A NONESSENTIAL ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM INTERFERING WITH SAFETY SYSTEMS. HYUNDAI AND APPLE SHOULD BE MADE TO CORRECT THIS, OR AT LEAST MAKE CONSUMERS AWARE OF IT.

I HAVE A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE ULTIMATE AND LIKE THE OTHER COMPLAINTS, THE CAR HAS HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE ESPECIALLY AFTER A STOP, BUMP IN ROAD, SLOWING DOWN, ETC. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS SUCH AS TRY A DIFFERENT MODE, RESET TRANSMISSION COMPUTER, ETC. I'VE CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FILED A COMPLIANT OPEN BUT I DON'T WANT THE CAR ANYMORE IT HESITATES TOO LONG/TOO MANY TIMES AND SCARES THE CRAP OUT OF ME. IT'S DANGEROUS AND NEEDS A RECALLED.
MY VEHICLE WAS IN PARK ON A FLAT SURFACE. I REACHED IN AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF THE CAR BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS . I WAS DRAGGED BACKWARDS DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. THE CAR STOPPED WHEN IT HIT THE NEIGHBORS CURB.I GOT IN THE CAR WAS OFF AND IN PARK.I THEN DROVE CAR INTO GARAGE AND PLACED IN PARK. I DIDI SUSTAIN A SEVER ANKLE SPRAIN AND WAS TREATED AT A HOSPITAL.THE CAR HAD 1900 MILES ON IT AND WAS A NEW CAR LEASE. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE CAR ON MONDAY DECEMBER 5 AND FOUND NOTHING. I CONTACTED THE NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER . THEY SENT A THIRD PARTY TO INSPECT CAR AND ON FEBRUARY 3,2017. I RECIEVED AN EMAIL. IT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION,GEAR SHIFTER AND BRAKES ARE NORMAL IT NOTED THAT IN THIS CAR THE DRIVER ALWAYS MUST PLACE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON EVERY TIME IT IS PLACED IN PARK. THE SALESMAN DID NOT CONVEY THIS,NOR II IS LISTED ON THE INFORMATION CHECKLIST TO REVIEW BEFORE CUSTOMER TAKES CAR. ALSO WHEN I TEST DROVE THIS VEHICLE IT DID NOT HAVE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. ALSO. WHEN TEST DRIVING THE CAR I COMMENTED THAT THE BRAKES SEEMED STRANGE. THE SALESMAN TOLD ME TO STOP AND WE RETURNED TO DEALER.HE INFORMED ME THAT RACCOONS ON THE PROPERTY WERE EATING THROUGH BRAKE LINES ON SEVERAL CARS. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD BE REPAIRED BEFORE I TOOK POSSESSION FOUR DAYS LATER. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I ASKED TO BE LET OUT OF THE LEASE BUT THAT WAS DENIED.

I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE ON 5/7/16. ON 6/2/16 I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 395 WHEN I NOTICED SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AND EVENTUALLY DIED. WHEN I GOT IT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I NOTICED FLAMES COMING OUT FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. I GRABBED WHAT I COULD AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. WITHIN 5 MIN THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I HAD APPROXIMATELY 675 MILES ON IT. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO ME. I ORDERED A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT YET. I HAVE PICTURES THAT I HAVE ATTACHED. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE.
