The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that intermittently, the gear shifter was inoperable, and the message "Gear Shift Malfunction" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure required that the vehicle be turned, which automatically engaged the parking brake. The contact stated that upon pressing the Start button, and then depressing the brake pedal, the contact was able to move the gear shifter to park(P) and to the other gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wiring was open between the transaxle, the rain switch, and the shift control unit. The dealer replaced the wiring. Upon test-driving the vehicle, the dealer noticed that the vehicle was still experiencing abnormal vibrations. The dealer recommended that the transmission be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

The Vehicle Trim is "Calligraphy" which comes with an 8 Speed Dual Clutch Transmission. This Transmission is Faulty and i already swapped 4 Transmissions under warranty under 55k Miles. (3 refurbished last one Brand new all having same issue) The Manufacturer *does not* want to admit that this is a Manufacturing Defect. (i opened a ticket #[XXX] with Hyundai Corporate office) The Vehicle surges forward when in "Park" which should not happen and I'm afraid it might result in a bigger risk. There are no fault codes or errors. It is a documented issue with multiple owners and discussed on Forums. This issue is unique to this manufacturer as no other DCT's (some of witch i owned in the past) experience such an issue (as far as i know). Description of problem: The Transmission will disengage while driving, allowing the car to 'coast' as if in neutral. The problem sometimes occurs at red lights, where the vehicle remains stationary for a brief period and then corrects itself as if nothing happened. I noticed the "D" character flashing on the dashboard when the issue occurred, indicating a problem. The engine will rev, but the car will not move. The vehicle spent about two weeks at the dealership (Hyundai of New Port Richie, FL), but they were unable to find an issue after conducting over 80 miles of test driving. The last incident occurred on June 8, 2025, only days after I had removed the vehicle from the repair shop due to this problem. When pulling into my son's driveway, the car's engine revved to about three thousand RPM, and the vehicle rolled backward, out of his driveway, and into crossing traffic. Luckily, the pickup truck on the street was able to stop before hitting my vehicle, which was now sitting in his lane of traffic. I looked down at the dashboard, and the car was still in "D" but would not move forward. After a few seconds, the transmission re-engaged and moved forward again as if nothing had happened. I DID NOTHING AND THE CAR RECOVERED BY ITSELF! I returned the vehicle to the dealership for further investigation on June 9, 2025, and am driving a rental. Summary: This car is unpredictable and unsafe in this condition. Someone could drive this car for days without experiencing an issue, but it does happen when you least expect it! I use this vehicle for local travel only, about twenty-mile trips.

While driving the car keeps Jenkins, and on the dash board it cane up have your power train checked. My vehicle has been in the shop 4 times since February over 30 days twice. My vehicle is still currently in the shop at the dealership. They refuse to check my power train area, and keep telling me 2 of the cylinders are backfiring

I took my vehicle in on 2/03/25 for a back up camera recall and to have my transmission checked due it not shifting correctly. I was called within two hours and told the transmission needed to be replaced. Weeks later they called and told me they had good news and bad news, the transmission was replaced, however it would not work. They replaced the transmission for the second time and had me pick up the vehicle on April 17th. I picked the car up and immediately went back in and told her it was not shifting right. They told me to drive it home and see how it did and they would have the service advisor reach out. On the way home, the car was at 5000RPM at 60mph. It was not shifting. The check engine light came on the next day. The car was taken back and I was told on April 21st the transmission needed to be replaced again. I was called on April 7th and told that there was a wire they needed to check that went from the transmission to the pcm and they were going to check it and see if that would fix it. That is 3 total transmissions that have been in this 2022 vehicle. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and Hyundai corporate is not doing anything to help.

A shifter malfunction error appears on dash. When trying switch into any gear it, the dashboard and front headlights flash. When I was parking, I put the car in park, the dash said park however the car kept moving and I almost collided into car in front of me. Another incident happened the same day when I could put the car in reverse from drive. I couldn’t turn the car off. Eventually I was able to turn it off but I had to put the emergency brakes on to keep car from moving. The error will appear when driving which is scary. The check engine light will appear sometimes. The car is scheduled for service on May 7th at Empire Hyundai of New Rochelle.

When shifting gears whether from parking to drive or from drive to park, the vehicle lags and makes a juttering noise. I am unable to move from the gear it is juttering in unless i turn the car off or hope that pushing the button turns it off. Whist it is juttering, it sounds as if the car is turning on and off repeatedly. This also has happened from the auto stop when trying to accelerate after stopping at a light and it get stuck and unable to move without me turning the car off and turning it back on. This is a safety issue since I was in the middle of a road, and I essentially have no control over what my car does. I have taken my car to Patrick Hyundai in Schaumburg, IL multiple times and they do nothing about it since they "don't see it happening whilst it is there". I have videos of it and they still do nothing.

On [XXX] my car started having trouble accelerating at some times- just happened out of the blue while driving normally. I was almost to my destination, so I parked and when I came back out, there was a message on the car screen that there was a problem with the transmission and to have it evaluated at my convenience. I was near the dealership so I drove there and they were unable to look at the vehicle but I asked if they could at least see what was wrong and if it was OK to drive. They said the code was DTC P1C2D03 and I was probably getting a new transmission. This code also showed up in the app. The TSB for this says that when this code is on the transmission will need to be replaced. [XXX] . They didn't have any appointments for diagnostics until 8/27/24, and told me it was safe to drive. My car continued over those 10 days to hesitate while accelerating at different times while driving. I never knew if I pressed the gas if I would get correct acceleration or not, which makes turning into traffic, merging, etc. unsafe. I also had 1 incident where I was at a stop sign and got no response at all from the gas pedal. I had to turn the car off and back on to get it to go. My car has only 12,000 miles. My car has been at the dealership now for 10 days waiting on them to do the diagnostics. On day 9 they called and said all it needed was a software update of the transmission control unit software and that they performed that update, test drove it twice and it was performing as expected. When I went to pick it up, the person who drove it from the lot into the service bay got out and told me the check engine light was on and there was an error about a transmission issue on the screen. The DTC P1C2D03 code is back on per the My Hyundai app. So they kept the car again and still waiting to find out what they are going to do. My vehicle has been having repeated issues within 2.5 years of my purchase. Initially it was the transmission and Hyundai service center with poor customer service kept the car for almost 20-25 days before replacing the vehicle. Now, I have picked up the vehicle for less than a week and I get another Powertrain DTC code P030100 and check engine light on. Hyundai service centers are worst in the country, very poor customer service. I have to take my caribou 100 miles away to a different service center because the in town service center wouldn’t even look at the car and says has no appointment. I have to drive the car for about 100 miles with engine light on which poses a major risk to the car and myself to even ben able to get the car service done under warranty. The company advertises best warranty in the industry but makes it hard to fix the vehicle under warranty. Please stay away from buying an Hyundai in future. Thank you.

My vehicle transmission failed on July 9,2024. There was no warning. The dashboard lite up with a DTC warning and the car would not accelerate properly. I found there was a Recall for the vehicle but it was never sent to me. I was fortunate to be close to home and not on a highway or in a busy intersection at the time. Had I been there could have been a serious accident. My vehicle needed a new transmission which I did receive. The vehicle was only 2 years old with under 20,000 miles on it. The dealer was unable to provide a courteous car so I had to borrow a car from a friend for the week it took to fix the vehicle. Also when I purchased the vehicle on Sept. 16,2022, I was told by the dealership that I would receive courtesy oil changes for three years. The first two were free now they are telling me it was a mistake and they are not. I was forced to pay $94.00 for the oil change to get my car back from the dealership.

Car odometer 5,952 miles Year 2022 Car started driving slowly and would not accelerate. After stopping at a traffic light it started to move sluggishly before loosing all power. Restarted the vehicle and moved to safety, check engine light was illuminated. I looked it up on the app and it provided a DTC code "P1C2D03" which was attached to previous recall regarding transmission issues loosing power. Upon review the recall did not include my vehicle but it has all the hallmarks of the previous recall. the problem my be a more wide spread then initially lead to believed.

Jun 25, 2024

The car’s transmissions seems to give out intermittently while driving, where when you accelerate the car nothing happens and you seem stranded on the road at a set speed. The care DTC code check reveals the following error: "A possible condition with your Transmission Control System has been detected with your 2022 SANTA FE”. This code associated with this error is “P1C2D03”. This code seems to have been associated with previous transmission issues with KIA and Hyundai vehicles for which NHTSA has issued recalls. I believe this is a safety issue with hyundai vehicles placing more lives at risk. Thank you and hoping for a resolution.

Vehicle lost partial power while driving, would not accelerate past 30 miles per hour. There were no warning lights and it continued for the 30 minute drive home. It was a dangerous situation as the vehicle would not accelerate and barely made it up some hilly roads. The engine would not rev past 3000 rpm's with the accelerated pedal pushed all the way to the floor. Vehicle is at the dealer to determine if they can identify the cause of the problem. It only happened one time as of now.

Engine light comes on and car starts jerking or when I start the car it does it and jerks and drives 5 mph. Cruise control jerks when using it and the sensors go off for no reason.

Mar 20, 2024

While driving I could not accelerate over 35 mph on the freeway this has happened at 10 times now. While driving my parking brake will come on causing me to stop immediately. This is a huge safety risk not only to me but the people in my car or driving around me. My vehicle has been brought to dealerships multiple times and nothing has been done they can’t find the problem.

3 different times in last 3 weeks the car seems to lose power while I’m driving. It will not go above 35-40mph even though I’m trying to accelerate. No warning messages. I had to go slow with my hazards on until it eventually slowly returns to speed. Very scary on the highway.

Aug 9, 2023

The vehicle started stalling on HWY and check engine light came on. I was trying to accelerate as other vehicles were catching up but it won't do that. After a while it did regain the power. We took the vehicle to Hyundai dealership in Roswell, GA and they reset the check engine light. They told us that it was OK to drive with solid check engine light. We need to pull over and call roadside assistance if check engine light starts to blink. We have an appointment for oil change on 8/18 and when we bring in the vehicle at that time, ask them to do the diagnostics. Even yesterday, the car started to stall. Reported the incident to Hyundai case # 21849832. Error code on dash - P1C2D03

Jun 22, 2023

First the check engine light was on and the vehicle was vibrating really bad and making a loud sound. Took it to the Hyundai dealership which claimed to repair the issue. While on my home from the dealership ( Hyundai of Slidell), which was almost hours away, the vehicle lost power while driving. Later, multiple lights were illuminated on the dashboard including the epb, auto hold, forward collision, blind spot, check engine, and oil light. The vehicle is currently back at the dealership. Hyundai has been notified numerous times about the issue. This is a safety issue that needs to be resolved. Although there are no current recalls for this issue everything Im experiencing with my vehicle are the same issues reported in previous recalls.

May 18, 2023 Crash

Backed out of my driveway yesterday morning on way to work, 5/17/23. Driving down my street approx 15 mph to stop sign. As i approached stop sign I pressed on my brakes to stop and my car would not stop, it immediately accelerated and proceeded toward my neighbors house which was directly in front of me. I kept hitting the brakes and it would not stop. I was able to steer away from the home, went up the curb/lawn hit a couple of cable boxes and finally hit a pretty large oak tree on the same neighbors lawn. the car was still running on impact. Had major damage done to automobile (tire blow out/rim dented/front end damage) luckily i was in my neighborhood where the speed limit is 20mph. I had the car towed to Hyundai dealership and am waiting upon inspection and the result of what caused the accident. As of now they have not given me a diagnoses. they keep wanting to say it was driver error, which is completely incorrect. I did obtain a video from my neighbor which doesn't quite show what happened but the sound on the video you can hear the engine accelerate and than right after you can hear the crash impact. I do not want to drive this suv I do not feel safe whether they fix it or not.

Multiple warning lights came on . Then loss power to the transmission. First time was in July of 2022 less than 2000 miles on it . Almost an accident! Towed to dealer basically did nothing! A few months later went in for oil change they did update to transmission software . Loss power to transmission again 4/8/23 with 7500 on it . This time warning lights came on and loss power to transmission at 55 MPH !Towed to a Hyundai dealership Cleared code and said nothing they could do! Except fixed a recall on the trailer hitch harness. I know there are recalls for this 8 speed dual clutch transmission on other Hyundai vehicles ,but not on my vehicle. Recall number 22V746099 I don’t feel this vehicle is safe for my wife to drive . It’s been sitting in my garage since I got it back from dealership the last time. This recall needs to be expanded!!!

Gray-Epperson Hyundai, Cleveland TN still responds that there is no remedy. Dealers are unable to provide loaner cars and will not do transmission inspection. They will only update the software which does not ensure that high pressure pump is affected. Waiting for Code P1C2D03 to pop can leave me stranded miles from home and an approved dealership. I will have to fight with Hyundai for tow reimbursement.

2022 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER REMOTE RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY ALERTED "TRANSMISSION SYSTEM ERROR, CHECK TRANSMISSION OIL IMMEDIATELY". THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE RANSMISSION FAILED ON JUNE 24, 2022. AS OF AUGUST 15, 2022 THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE BOUGHT BACK AND GIVEN ANOTHER VEHICLE OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, YEAR, AND PRICE.

Aug 29, 2022

We have a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe with less than 17,000 miles. We pulled into the left turn lane at an intersection. When we stopped for a red light, the vehicle abruptly shut down all power with no warning. We tried to restart the car and nothing would work. We tried the hazard warning flashers and they did not work. Our vehicle was completely dead with no dash lights, no infotainment screen, we could not put the car in park or drive. We could not activate the emergency brake. It was as if the battery was disconnected. We were sitting in the travel lane of a very busy multi-lane roadway with no way to exit the vehicle unless we allowed it to become an errant vehicle. If my husband took his foot off the brake, the vehicle would have rolled backwards down the hill where we were stopped. After several light cycles, we were able to get a break in traffic and he was able to let the vehicle roll backwards and steer the car into a small roadside parking lot. I was able to find someone in an adjacent business who gave us a wooden chock to put under the tire so he could take his foot off the brake and prevent the car from reentering back into traffic. We called Roadside Assistance and tried unsuccessfully to restart the vehicle numerous times over the 2 1/2 hours while we were waiting for the tow truck. The tow truck driver came and was able to jump start the vehicle. This has now happened a total of 4 times in the last 4 months. The dealerships can not recreate the problem and there are no diagnostic codes because the vehicle dies abruptly. Hyundai Customer Service refuses to do anything to help with this issue because there are no codes and the tech can't recreate the issue. We can not drive this vehicle because when it happens it is very sudden and gives no warning. This could be a serious safety issue when the vehicle shuts down in the travel lane and we are unable to get out of the vehicle, activate emergency flashers or even put the car in park.
