I have a 06 sonata 2.4l that had rear control arms rotted out plus the subframe. And my esc light is on not really sure what to wit that. But my car is down now due to rear control arms needed replaced.

I have had several things wrong with other models and my 06 hyundai Sonata having the exact same thing happening but the dealer ship wont even acknowledge the words from my mouth, or I get the speech outta your pocket. When I start my car its normal till I put it in drive, it starts pushing the brakes jerking my car leaving black marks in the road onetime. Its happening everyday for 7 months then after the brakes thing its like my car dies then esc light on my dash will light up and it drives normal. Then the sway bar, bushing and struts have went bad 4 times in the past year. The brakelines rusted into and currently going through the second time fixing them. pour brake fluild in and it does no good still none. The headlights bulbs have been replaced 3 times in 2 years now. they may stay bright for 3 months or so then they go dim so dim you cant see black ice till your up on it.

This is the third time I am having to replace the calipers on my car in 4 yrs. They keep locking up while I am driving & won't release. When it does thus it ruins my roters & grinds my breaks down.

DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR JUST DIED OUT OF NO WHERE TOOK IT TO GET LOOKED AT ONLY TO FIND OUT THE ENGINE DIED CAR GOT SO HOT IT HAD TO SIT OVER NIGHT TO COOL. ALSO WAS DRIVING ONE DAY AND ROOK A TURN AMD MY BRAKES WOULDN'T STOP TOOK IT IN AND FOUND OUT THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED HAD TO SPEND THOUSANDS TO GET IT FIXED.

THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS THE ENGINE WAS DYING WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT, WITH THE ENGINE IDLING, THE CAR IN DRIVE AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I STARTED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WHEN I HAD TO COME TO A STOP, SO THE ENGINE WOULDN'T SPUTTER, AND THEN BACK IN DRIVE WHEN I WANTED TO GO. AFTER ABOUT A DAY OR 2, THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE, AND THE BRAKE WASN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO MY HYUNDAI DEALER, WHO SAID IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION (SPECIFICALLY TORQUE CONVERTER). I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP, WHICH REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION. BUT THE CAR WAS STILL REVVING WHEN IT WAS PUT IN DRIVE AND IDLING, WITH THE BRAKE ON. THE TRANSMISSION SHOP RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM, WHICH TOOK ABOUT A MONTH, AND FOUND THAT THE CONTROL MODULE HAD MALFUNCTIONED. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, IT WAS SENDING THE SIGNAL TO REV THE ENGINE AND CUT THE POWER TO THE BRAKES WHEN THE CAR WAS IDLING IN GEAR. HE SAID HE FOUND THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR RANGE, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL BECAUSE NO SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATHS HAD OCCURRED BECAUSE OF IT YET. OBVIOUSLY, IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME TILL THIS HAPPENS, WHEN A VEHICLE REVS ITS ENGINE AND CUTS POWER TO THE BRAKES SIMULTANEOUSLY. ONCE THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED, THE TRANSMISSION SHOP WAS ABLE TO ORDER THE SOFTWARE FROM HYUNDAI TO REPROGRAM THE ECM, WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

ESC/ABS LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND WAS HARD TO CONTROL THE CAR ACCELERATION WAS HARD AND BRAKING SEEMED TO GO DOWN LOW ENOUGH TO SCARE YOU. I MADE IT HOME THE LIGHTS WENT OFF BUT BACK ON ANOTHER DOING THE SAME THING HAPPENED WHERE ACCELERATION SEEMED TO BE DRAGGING ANF BRAKES FELT LOW THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NOW I DO NOT DRIVE IT SINCE THESE LIGHTS COME ON OFTEN. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED AND DTC CODES SHOW MULTIPLE CODE FOR ABS, ESC, AIRBAGS ALL OF WHICH HAVE BEEN FIXED BUT THAT DID NOT HELP THE ESC/ABS LIGHT STILL COME AND MAKE BRAKING/ACCELERATION HARD AT TIMES.

FUSE BOX STARTED HEATING AND IT BURNET I SHUTOFF ENGINE AND THEN STAYED THEIR FOR A WHILE AND THEN I WENT BACK HOME. I THOUGHT ONLY MY CAR HAS THIS PROBLEM BUT THERE ARE MANY MORE CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS I AM NOT USING MY CAR SINCE I CHANGED TPS ASSEMBLY BREAKLIGHT SWITCH FUSE BUT STILL, PROBLEM RESIST THIS MAY CAUSE A BIG ACCIDENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD WHERE IT WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V026000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

SUDDEN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION WITH NO POWER BRAKE. ACCELERATION OF VEHICLE ON IT'S OWN. WHEN IN PARK AND NEUTRAL VEHICLE IDLES FINE AND POWER BRAKES WORK. WITH FOOT ON BRAKE AND PLACING THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE IT ACCELERATED IMMEDIATELY TO UNCONTROLLABLE SPEEDS WITH NO FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. AT THE SAME TIME YOU LOSE POWER BRAKE AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL UNLESS THE DRIVER PUTS THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, THEN POWER BRAKE ENGAGES AND ACCELERATION STOPS. THIS HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER'S CAR ON 4/24/18. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. I ALSO TESTED THE CAR AND IT IS UNCONTROLLABLE. EXPERIENCED NO PROBLEMS OR WARNINGS PRIOR TO THIS. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEFORE OR AFTER THIS INCIDENT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY AUTO REPAIR SHOP. GOT THE CAR ON THE LIFT AND PUT IT IN DRIVE. IT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN AND REACHED 80 MILES PER HOUR QUICKLY. NO FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR OR BRAKE. DECIDED TO CALL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 4/30. THE TECH CONFIRMED OUR CONCERNS. ON 5/11 THE SERVICE MANAGER CONTACTED HYUNDAI CORPORATION ON OUR BEHALF. WE ALSO CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE ON 5/13. NO VEHICLE SHOULD EXTREMELY ACCELERATE AND LOSE POWER BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME! THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT. REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE PROBLEM IS NO VEHICLE SHOULD REACT LIKE THIS. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, I DISCOVERED THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE LINE HAS DEVELOPED A LEAK ABOVE THE SUSPENSION SUB-FRAME.

THE DEALER REPLACED A SHIFT SENSOR BUT THAT DIDN'T FIX THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NOR THE STOP AND START AT RANDOM TIMES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CAR SLOWS WAY DOWN AND I BARELY CAN GET IT TO GO FORWARDS. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS AT NIGHT. I PULLED ONTO A STREET FROM A STOP SIGN INTO TRAFFIC. I BARELY WENT HALF A BLOCK AND HAD TO PULL INTO A DRIVEWAY TO GET OUT OF THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON BRIEFLY ON THE DASH. I LOOKED AT THE OFF SWITCH AND IT WAS ILLUMINATED. I PUSHED IT OFF I THINK. FOR THE AIRBAG, THE LIGHT IN DASHBOARD IS ON WHEN CAR STARTING, AND THE PASSANGER AIRBAG IS OFF EVEN IF SOMEONE SITTING ON PASSANGER SEAT. FOR THE BRAKE, THE FRONT BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED LAST YEAR AND ALL THE BRAKE OIL IS TOTALLY LEAK OUT, SO THERE IS NO BRAKE WHEN DRIVING IT. AND THE REAR BRAKE LINE IS BROKEN THIS YEAR DUE TO RUST. ON MARCH 9TH, 2015, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AFTER PICKING UP MY INFANT DAUGHTER FROM DAYCARE WHEN SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA; THE AIRBAG, ABS, AND ESC OFF WARNING LIGHTS. IN PREPARATION FOR THE UPCOMING LEFT TURN INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD, I TAPPED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND COAST TO THE INTERSECTION. THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT DISENGAGE. I APPLIED MORE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW DOWN, BUT UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO THE SET CRUISE SPEED. I NOW APPLIED AS MUCH PRESSURE AS I POSSIBLY COULD TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CRUISE CONTROL SET LIGHT DID NOT DISENGAGE. THE SONATA DOWNSHIFTED AND REVVED UP TO 4K RPM ATTEMPTING TO OVERPOWER MY BRAKING. AT THIS POINT IT WAS TOO LATE TO AVOID THE INTERSECTION. I PLACED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND SWERVED TO AVOID HITTING AN ONCOMING VEHICLE AND MEDIAN, AT THE TURN. THE SONATA SPUN OUT AND CAME TO REST IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANES AFTER OVERSHOOTING THE TURN. THE ESC OFF LIGHT TURNED ON BY ITSELF. WHEN PUSHING THE BUTTON FOR THE ESC OFF, NOTHING HAPPENED. CAMPAIGN #092 WAS REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE AT BEL AIR HYUNDAI ON 9/14/2010. THE VEHICLE WAS THERE FOR OTHER REGULAR SERVICE AND THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. AT THAT TIME, THE SWITCH WAS NOT A PROBLEM. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WE WERE UNAWARE THAT THIS RECALL WAS EVEN PERFORMED. I'M SURE IT WAS LISTED ON MY PAPERWORK. THIS WEEK, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND MY ABS LIGHT STAYS ON. BRAKES FAILED DUE TO CORRODED STEEL HARD LINES FOR REAR BRAKES. THE HARD LINES FAILED APPROXIMATELY UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT IN A PROTECTED PLASTIC CHANNEL THAT CONTAINS THE BRAKE HARD LINES, AND FUEL LINES. ON FURTHER INSPECTION BRAKE LINES ARE HEAVILY CORRODED, AND FUEL LINES ALSO HAVE EXTENSIVE CORROSION. THE POINT OF FAILURE HAPPENED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP QUICKLY IN A HIGH TRAFFIC SITUATION WHILE APPLYING HIGH BRAKE PRESSURE. THE BRAKE LINES ARE IN A PARTIALLY ENCLOSED CHANNEL - SO ARE NOT VISIBLE FOR INSPECTION, AND THE ISSUE WAS MISSED EVEN AFTER TAKING THE CAR FOR AN EVALUATION AT SEARS AFTER THIS ISSUE OCCURRED. SYMPTOMS OF THIS INCIDENT INCLUDED: SINKING BRAKE PEDAL, BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, LOW FLUID IN BRAKE RESERVOIR, AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER EXITING A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT I ATTAINED A SPEED OF ABOUT 35MPH WHEN A TRAFFIC LITE ABOUT 100YDS AHEAD TURNED TO RED. I GRABBED AND THE PULLED THE HAND BRAKE AS HARD AS REASONABLE WITHOUT BREAKING THE HANDLE OR DOING OTHER DAMAGE TO THE EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH I STOPPED ABOUT 2-3 CAR LENGTHS SHORT OF AN ACCIDENT I'M SURE THAT USE OF THE HAND BRAKE PREVENTED A REAR END COLLISION. ONLY AFTER I HAD DRIVEN A FEW HUNDRED YARDS TO GET OFF THE ROADWAY DID THE RED BRAKE FAILURE LITE COME ON CONFIRMING THAT I HAD SURVIVED A SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE AS OPPOSED TO A SLOW LEAK FAILURE. WITH A RATHER SHAKY HAND, I GRABBED A FLASH LIGHT AND WHILE MY PASSENGER PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM A LOCATION ABOUT 16 INCHES IN FRONT OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. THE CAR IS IN THE YARD NOW BUT W/O A LIFT THE LOCATION OF THE FAILURE IS UNKNOWN. HUNDAI DID NOT SEEMED TOO CONCERNED ABOUT THE NEAR ACCIDENT STATING THERE ARE NO KNOWN BRAKE ISSUES BUT DID GIVE ME A CASE NUMBER FOR REFERENCE, THAT NUMBER IS 6046357. SINCE HUNDAI DID NOT SEEM TOO CONCERNED ABOUT NEAR ACCIDENT SO I WILL BE TAKING THE SONATA TO A LOCAL DEALER.

I WENT TO A SEARS AUTO CENTER BACK IN DECEMBER 2012 TO GET AN ALIGNMENT. IN THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY 2013, I WENT BACK TO SEARS TO HAVE MY ALIGNMENT RECHECKED BECAUSE I WAS EXPERIENCING SHAKING WHILE BRAKING. THEY TOLD ME MY REAR BRAKE SHOES WERE CORRODED AND FALLING APART AND I NEEDED TO CHANGE THEM, ALONG WITH GETTING NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. AFTER HAVE THESE PARTS INSTALLED, THE MECHANIC CALLED ME OVER REGARDING MY ALIGNMENT AND SAID THE REAR SUSPENSION FRAME WAS CORRODED AND RUSTED IN 2 PLACES, CAUSING THE TOW TO GO OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THEY SAID I NEEDED TO EITHER REPLACE THE WHOLE SUBFRAME OR HAVE A STEEL BEAM WELDED TO IT FOR STABILITY SO THEY COULD GET THE CORRECT ALIGNMENT SPECS. IF I DIDN'T FIX IT, THE ALIGNMENT WOULD ALWAYS BE OFF. THEY ALSO WARNED ME THAT IF I TRAVELED WITH MY VEHICLE LONG DISTANCE, THE FRAME COULD BREAK WHERE THE CORROSION OCCURRED, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. 2 WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL LISTED TO THE LEFT ABOUT 45 DEGREES AND MY REAR WHEELS STARTED TO LEAN IN.
