Based on what I experienced, the fire appears to have resulted from an internal mechanical or electrical failure that occurred without warning while the vehicle was in motion. No prior issues or dashboard alerts were present at the time, and there was no external impact or damage that could explain the fire.
Driving came to a stop ,light turned green made a U-turn to go to the gas station heard a pop noise smoke came from inside the car tried stopping it but the brake pedal sunk into the ground pressed my emergency brake it was seized wouldn’t go down (never had that issue my brakes always work ) I smelled brake fluid and seen the abs light on the dash then the power started to go out and my girlfriend almost got trapped in the car
The part of hand break assembly that’s inside the disk break (the drum assembly) fell off when the dealer ( [XXX] Hyundai, Schaumburg, IL) tried to adjusted. I went to the dealer because the hand break stop to function. I suspect very bad design of the whole assembly disk and drum break. Also the dealer stated that all assembly was rusted. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
With no warning my car left me sit on the side of the road and when started the engine made an awful knocking noise. Hyundai denied to replace the engine despite there being at least 2 engine recalls. When I asked why they said it was due to no maintenance records so I provided them with maintenance records like they requested and then they deny it again and say they aren’t replacing the engine because the problem with my engine had nothing to do with the 2 engine recalls my vehicle IS affected by.
I was driving I seen smoke then full flames on my windshield and I tried to stop and put my car in park to get out but my brakes stopped working and I couldn’t get the gear in park so I opened the driver door and had to jump out of the car .I had an engine replacement a year before for it being recalled and police and firefighters were on scene after incident
I started the car, put it into gear and then the breaks wouldn’t work. The car dash said something like check breaks hybrid system failure do not drive. There is not recall on my car but the Hyundai service department doesn’t know how to fix it. This is the second time it’s happened. I’m scared to drive it. Please investigate!
I drive a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Limited. After a recent fill-up, I began experiencing delayed acceleration, engine hesitation, and what appears to be misfiring—especially at low throttle. Most notably, the brake lights stay illuminated even when the car is turned off, which drains the battery and poses a major safety hazard. I scanned the vehicle with an OBD-II scanner and received code P0504, which points to a brake light switch malfunction. I also noticed that pressing the start button with my foot off the brake still starts the engine instead of going into accessory mode—confirming abnormal brake signal behavior. I replaced the brake light switch, which temporarily fixed the issue, but the symptoms returned within a day. After researching, I found there was a recall (NHTSA 15V759000) for a nearly identical issue involving the brake light switch and stopper pad. However, my VIN is not listed, even though I am experiencing the same safety-critical symptoms. This issue poses a significant safety risk on the road, and I believe my vehicle should be included in the affected population of the recall or issued a Technical Service Bulletin extension.
Unknown Cought fire under the hood was engulfed within minutes
In October of 2023, I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid to the laundry mat about a quarter of a mile from my home. I stopped at a stop light and all of a sudden, a warning sound burst from my dasher board. The message stated, "Hybrid Warning-DO NOT DRIVE: CHECK BRAKES". The brakes completely stopped working, the pedal was to the floor and the accelerator was stalling. After managing to get the vehicle back to my home, naturally I went to the Dealership (Langdale Hyundai of Valdosta) and informed them of the issue. They informed me there was no issue, charged me for a diagnostic and sent me on my way. Once I provided proof of my car stopping mid-drive, they began to check wiring and such. What they told me the issue was is a Hydraulic Power Unit. I had it replaced, still the same issue "CHECK BRAKES". I only have 116k miles on this car, bought it with 72K in 2021, so I haven't driven it much. It spent 8 months in Hyundai Dealership in Holiday, FL for a brand-new Hybrid Battery in 2022. I have been looking online for anyone that knows more about this issue so I can get it resolved. It turns out there are thousands of people who are just like me. I believe this is indeed a recall issue. I believe this is an issue is an emergency issue, brakes giving out while driving is an issue that needs to be addressed. This has been happening for years, and Hyundai has not done one thing on it. It's happening with newer vehicles as well as older. Langdale Hyundai of Valdosta was not much of a help at all, to be honest, I don't trust their workers at all. I believe they do nothing and charge customers for the max that they can.
ACTIVE HYDRAULIC BOOSTER failed while driving. 2012 with 114,000 miles on it. Brand new engine and transmission installed from prior recalls. Hyundai dealership said it was covered under anything and would cost $5K to get fixed.
The driver side seat belt wont click and stay in almost half the time i drive my car… after reading other complaints its looking like this is a common thing. Within the past year ive noticed lots of times that when im going to lock my car with my fob, it wont lock and its because the passenger side lock button on the inside of door is in a stuck between lock/unlock position… resulting in me having to lean over to manually unlock the door even when I’ve unlocked my car with both the fob and inside button… all the sudden i noticed too that my speed control will not work at all and be completely unresponsive most times. It will RANDOMLY work when i try checking it on highway. ive had SO many issues with my taillights going/burning out constantly and now my headlights have gotten really dim. Im scared to drive at night now. They are much more dimmer than a cars should look like usually. Within the past week i just noticed a random big crack in the dashboard on the passenger side as well… noticed that seems to be a common thing and concern of safety with lots of others who own and drive this same vehicle… my first thought was “what if this crack will effect the airbag and make it deploy?” The crack is literally right over and above where the airbag is… plan on trying to take my car to place on OKC that did the anti-theft system software update on my car… but my car has gotten so bad when driving ill be lucky if it makes it there in one piece. My car has started to shake SO bad when im driving!!! Almost “jumping” at times it feels like. This car has been a pretty good car but when there are MULTIPLE complaints of the SAME issues that continuously keep costing us money and its not because of our doing and in fact the manufacturers FAULTY equipment and parts that they used to make these cars… they should most definitely be doing recalls and fixing these problems at no cost!
The grid warning light is coming on and telling me to stop the car. When this occurs the car will lose power and the brakes will start making a grinding noise. My safety was at risk when I was driving on [XXX], Chula Vista, California by Southwestern Community College approaching behind cars at a red light intersection on the second lane to the right going east and the warning light came on. The car started making a grinding noise and to lose power. The intersection was busy and I was barely able to get the vehicle to the right lane to get out of the way of traffic going east. I was blocking the right turn lane onto [XXX] in Chula Vista, Ca I took the vehicle to the dealer and has been confirmed. It first appeared approximately in July / August of 2023. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I believe this is the same issue as the Hyundai recall #170 (activation of the engine management system's brake pedal override feature). While pressing the accelerator, my car will stop accelerating until I let off the gas pedal and then press it again. This is an intermittent issue and unrelated to any fuel delivery system. I confirmed it was a brake pedal issue because my brake lights would not turn off and I could shift out of Park WITHOUT my foot being on the brake pedal. I feel like this could be a pretty big issue for properly signally drivers behind me as well as when I’m trying to drive in heavy or speedy traffic, e.g., merging onto or within interstate traffic.
Brake system warning, puts car in limp mode on freeway nearly causing rear end collisions.
On July 29, 2024, my 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid was parked in our driveway. About 10 minutes later an engine fire started that consumed the car. The local Fire Departmemt put out the fire but the car was totaled. The fire also destroyed a storage shed and some windows were damaged. The car was taken to the Hyundai Dealer for servicing when the engine light came on on March of 2024. The car was left for a few days with the dealer. The NHTSA Recall Number 23V651000 was not repaired during that service call.
Check engine light comes on, brake system malfunction warning message appears and says to pull over, vehicle goes into limp mode. Hyundai dealership says $150 to diagnose problem.
Emergency brake started engaging while the car is in motion. Usually, 10-15 minutes after starting the car. We were told the hydraulik brake booster pump needs to be replaced. The car is at only 60K miles.
The car has been meticulously maintained — I am glad to provide all records of regular service upon request — and lovingly cared for. It came to us in great shape. Until, that is, I drove it for the first time and the brakes failed. I rolled into an intersection. Luckily, there was no traffic and no one was harmed. But I had a very helpless feeling, and I feel incredibly grateful no one was hurt. After taking the vehicle to two mechanics, they independently confirmed that a sensor in the ABS module was failing, leading to a sudden loss of braking. After a cursory internet search, I found that many owners of this model and year of vehicle have encountered this dangerous problem.
while i was driving after picking up my daughters from school the car start giving me a hybrid system warning and a brake message on the dash with brakes not working properly so i stop and get the car tow to my mechanic it was scary since i have my 2 daughter with me my mechanic said the problem is the HECU AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT he tell me there is a recall #251 I call the dealer but they said only cover a fuse no the actual defected part that doesn't make sense I seen a lot of complain of this part going bad hopefully Hyundai do something to make right and fix the actual problem and dont put life on risk like happen to me and my daughters
Saying check brakes and safely pull over hybrid battery failure
Brake light appeared intermittently while I'm in the middle of traffic.my vehicle's hybrid system warning light came on aside from the brake light and tells me to pull over and not to drive the vehicle.i towed my car to the dealership for inspection.after inspection done ,the service advisor tells me that they need to change the abs module due to possible internal leaking besides the fuse.they quoted me $3574.71 to fix the abs module excluding other brake components.i asked them to change the fuse only.Abs problem and brake light are still on and vehicle is not drivable.
•brake failure •this has happened at indiscriminate times including the highway, suddenly the car tells me to stop driving and the brakes don’t work as they should, no telling this would happen until it occurs. When pressing brakes, a loud noise rumbles through the car and I am no longer able to drive at any speed higher than 5 mph (an issue for being on the road) risk of possible collision as this happens suddenly and gives short time to take action •UKNOWN •was inspected by local dealer, they said it was the primary pressure sensor which is a part of the Hydraulic brake booster pump. They wanted to replace the entire hydraulic unit even though it was only the sensor that was faulty and it would cost me $3,503.61 which is an ABSURD price for an electrical issue that I did not see coming at all and it is a robbery of regular people who need their cars to get to the places they need to be (work and family) this is NOT a luxury, I need my car •no warning signs or lights until the issue actually occurred. The only light that showed was the ABS lights, maybe it’s linked to the recall about the brake fluid leaking causing fires?
my sonata 2012 the engine was replaced it seized up on the highway. since then ive had multiple issues; 1. my brake pedal seems to get pulled to the floor all the way at random times i have to pump the brake for it to release itself. 2. ive replaced the purge valve 3 going on 4 times as well as the cadilac converter due to it being clogged. 3. my car is so loud it makes a hissing noise and a winding sound people say its my transmission going out but no one can pinpoint the problem. 4. my brake lights and head lights go out all the time been replaced bout 100 times. lights on the dash r on; airbag, check engine tire pressure . please i need my vehicle looked over by a professional and or help replacing these issues ASAP
Hyundai states this vehicle may catch fire while parked or while driving. They have advised not parking inside due to fire risk. We do not feel safe driving the vehicle any more than on local low speed city streets, as it might be impossible to safely pull over should it catch fire while driving at high speeds on a highway. We have been waiting months for Hyundai to fix this, cannot get a straight answer as to when that will happen. They have refused to provide a loaner or rental car, so we are currently stuck with a car that is close to completely useless and apparently presents a fire hazard even while sitting in our driveway. Can NHTSA assist?
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Hybrid Warning System: Safely Stop and Do Not Drive. Yes it is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I lost complete control of braking when the alarm went off, the brake pedal went to the floor, made a grinding sound, was driving at a slow speed and able to pull over and stop the car. Turned car of and turned back on alert went away, slowing started driving and alert returned and loss of brake Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Car is currently at a Hyundai dealership being evaluated, they are unable to reproduce error as of today 1/26/2024 Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not as of today. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? 1/24/2024 this was the 1st time this error occured.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the brakes failed to respond intermittently. The contact was unaware if any warning lights had been illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
Mileage: 93,000
It has been 4 months that I was instructed to park vehicle outside. This is frustrating. I think they should replace the Module and get it over with.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to immediately stop, causing the stopping distance to be extended. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

I noticed a clicking noise when pressing and releasing the brake pedal that had not been there before. I started hearing that sound 3-5 days ago. After driving to pick up food I noticed smoke coming from the engine area then the car burst into flames. The fire depress called a they put out the fire.
Several times a week I get "Hybrid System Warning. Check Brakes" that comes with red flashing light on the dash and beeping noise. When I turn the car off, give it a few seconds and restart the car, it goes away. It has mostly been happening when I am parked so it is not an issue to shut it off and restart. Two days ago, this happened while I have driving on the street and when I applied the brakes, it went down to the floor with grinding noise. I was going about 35 MPH and no cars in front of me so I was able to come to a stop on the street with hazards on. I turned off the car, restarted it and the issue went away. I have researched this online and it looks like many people are having the same issue. Many have taken their vehicle to the dealer to get the issue fixed and the dealer is unable to fix the issue because they cannot recreate the problem. I am afraid that this might lead into an accident and feel like something that Hyundai should do a recall on.
Alarm started and Hybrid brake check warning instructed to pull over and do not drive. This happened while driving down the road. The car lost power and would not accelerate. The brakes were gone and were making a grinding noise.
The ABS (Antilock Brake System) or BMS ( Brake Module System) warning light illumination came on flashing “DO NOT DRIVE “ and the brakes sieze-up making it impossible to drive. Key Hyundai in Jacksonville previously charged me $2600 to replace the BMS and within warranty. A few months later the same company charged me another $342.56 to diagnose the same issue. I had to rent a car for $700 while in the service repair department. Key Hyundai was unable to fix my 2012 Sonata hybrid except offering me a replacement hybrid battery and control system for $12,900. I declined. I believe that the campaign 251 involves this problem. I had to get the car towed to another mechanic that is currently working on the vehicle.
Illumination of the malfunction indicator lamp and/or ABS (Anti-lock brake system) light. My 2012 Sonata Hybrid has been towed twice to Key Hyundai dealer in Jacksonville, FL. They charged me several thousand dollars and the vehicle ABS lamp remains illuminated. The dealership did not offer me alternative transportation and I feel unsafe driving the vehicle. On Friday November 12th they blamed the brake lamp illumination on the Hybrid main battery and gave me an estimate of $12,900.00 to replace the battery. The first time I took the vehicle in for this problem my vehicle was still under 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. My car has approximately only 35,000 miles driven. They did not honor the warranty. This is a brake issue not a battery issue.
Check engine lights on and says “Warning do not drive the hybrid brakes may fail do not drive “.
I went to start my car up 10 days ago and it began to alarm with a message to check the brake system. My car was stuck and wouldn't drive. This also happened in July 2022 while I was on the highway. I could no longer accelerate and the gas pedal no longer gave power. I had to put on my hazard lights and coast to the far right lane. I took it to the Hyundai dealership near by and they said it wasn't safe to drive. I left it there and was told that Hyundai would replace the part in good faith at no charge but charged me $700 for labor. This is becoming a problem. I was told the car could catch fire while driving or while parked and that I could continue to drive it. I decided not to drive it because I do not feel safe.
I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid that has a problem with its ABS Module. It is overheating and causes my car to stop its brake and motor functions while driving. I contacted the dealership to get a rental or replacement in the meantime and they told me there is nothing they can do and to drive with caution. I called the manufacturer to get a rental for the meantime and they told me the same thing. I have looked on the recall documents and it says they should give me a vehicle in the meantime if it is unsafe to drive. Please, I don't even want the car at this point because of all the problems with it and with my dissatisfaction with customer service from any Hyundai business. But if I could just get a car that is safe to drive while I wait for the recall to have a remedy , I would take that.
While driving on the freeway, the Hybrid system warning, safely stop and do not drive will alternately flash with check brake and continuously the alarm sound with the park brake red light. The car would loose acceleration, and the brake pedal goes to the floor when applied. Once stopped, I restarted the car and the same things happen. The car can accelerate on and off for about 5mph. Brake pedal still goes to the floor. After restarting the car for 30-minutes- 1 hour, there are no warning lights or alarm. The car can be driven again. I brought to independent mechanic and found the code C1604 and there’s a recall 251 on ABS brake system- recommended to bring to dealer. Brought to dealer, they say that recall 251 had no fix yet. They diagnosed that the safety plug relay needs to be replaced. Dealer replaced it and said that the car is fixed. Pick up the car from the dealer. After 20 miles of driving the same problem occurred- Hybrid system warning, safely stop and do not drive will alternately flash with check brake and continuously the alarm sound with the park brake red light. Had the car towed back to the dealer. After 2 days, the dealer says it’s possibly a transmission issue. I asked how come it wasn’t diagnosed the first time around? No clear response.issue occurred 4 times already.
2012 hyundai sonta The car brakes out of no where.comes to a stop .
i’ve been having issues with the brake lights being sometimey sometime it works and sometimes not, and almost been in accidents once too many times. i’ve also notice a lot of hyundais especially sonatas that’s on the road have the same issue. i’m at a loss in what to do with having to change light bulbs every month it acts up with both break lights. horn doesn’t work. it stopped months ago and fused changes and still no horn work. the other day while driving it brought someone was blowing at me so i turned down the radio and heard my very own horn blow on it’s own several times it does this off n on even at the light or while driving. i don’t have money to fix all these issues with this car. hopefully we can get a recall and get this fixed!
Came Home Saw that the break lights were on in my Sonata. Tapped the brake pedal, they went off. Came home the next day same thing. I found a re call (google) for stuck brake lights. 2011 - 2012 Sonatas. I purchased the car used, and was informed that everything is working and in order. I'm just curios if there were any other reports concerning this matter?
My vehicle is experiencing several recall issues. The seat belt in driver seat randomly pops unlocked which is very dangerous while driving, the headlights and brakes lights go out once a month due to some electrical issues with the vehicle, the tire bearing clocks when the vehicle is turning
The break light don’t want to turn off Seat belts don’t latch
Brake light is stuck on
I recently purchased a Hyundai Sonata hybrid with 132K miles on it and it has been driving fine for at least two weeks until a few days back the car has been displaying a recurring alarm on the dashboard telling " hybrid system warming! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive " now as soon as I turn on the vehicle the alarm comes on immediately. It's been a week since the car is technically inoperable because if I attempt to drive the car it makes this horrible grinding sound which is terrifying considering if I drive like this it would probably cause more damage to the car, and I have look for information on this issue and have found many of these cases over the years that I can relate to but unfortunately there's no a recall of this problem. I'm taking the car to the dealership soon but I don't have any hopes that they will find a permanent fix for this since nobody has apparently. I'm just trying find some help with this issue. So far I just have lots of regrets about this purchase and just hoping I can find some help with this matter.
While driving with foot on accelerator, acceleration/ current speed will randomly just stop. 1-1- Once i fully release the accelerator and then reengage the accelerator problem goes away. This is very random as to when it happens, and will happen multiple times in a row some times... and other times happens once and doesn't the rest of the trip. This seems to be more amplified occurrences when it is cold. 2- Safety is put at risk. 3- Not gone to dealer yet. 4- No inspection yet. 5- No warning messages.
Vehicle doesn’t stop hard pedal and brake light came on 144k
Driving on freeway and traction control light came on and stays on. Then my car stalls. Additionally, I awakened at 6 am to find my breaks light had been on most the night at no fault of mine. I checked my vin# and being told my 2012 sonata is not part of the recall campaign 136. This is a danger to my life and Hyundai is refusing to correct the problem at their cost.
Break lights don’t go off.
Driving on a freeway when check brake warning appeared. Car speed dropped down to drastically. Alarm was chirping and brakes made a bad grinding noise
The car starts alarming out of nowhere while driving at 70 mph on the interstate and the Hybrid System Warning - Safely Stop and Do Not Drive along with the wrench, battery light and engine light all appearing on the dashboard to pull over and do not drive when this occurred I lost total control of the vehicle. The brake peddle goes all the way to the floor enabling me to stop and I lost the ability to steer the vehicle as the power steering went out as well while this was happening. I almost got killed as I was on the highway driving at 70 mph. I immediately put on my hazards lights to signal to other drivers that I was having mechanical problems. Thank GOD I was able to pull over without anyone hitting me from behind. I have had major major issues with this car since I purchased it the engine seized up on me in the same manner back in 2020 and the engine was replaced. Then there was an issue with the transmission and that was also replaced. Then the brake booster also failed and had to be replaced as well. Hyundai aught to be ashamed of the production of this vehicle as it is truly a severe risk to the lives of the consumers not just the person who is driving this vehicle but also to those who may be behind someone driving as this could cause a major accident and people could be killed. These cars need to be recalled and they need to get down to what is causing these issues in order to fix the problem. I pray that you all make Hyundai do a recall on this vehicle as I have googled and see that there has been many others that have encountered these same issues. I am filing this complaint in hopes of you all getting involved to do something about this. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
My "Hyundai system warning safely stop and don't drive". light went off with my brake light on also, we were driving on the freeway going around 60 mph I was I'm the middle lane causing me to have to hurry and pull over as Car came to complete stop.i went to brake check to see if the breaks needed to be replaced and after inspection they said everything was fine, brakes, rotors and brake fluid was fine it's been doing this more often now..
Brake lights stay on when the car is turned off. It is draining the battery and I cannot drive the car. No Hyundai dealers near me have availability until October or after.
My 2012 Hyundai Sonata, build date 10/31/2011, experienced the exact issue as described in NHTSA campaign number 15V759000. Note that the campaign covers Sonatas built before my vehicle's build date. The brake pedal stopper pad deteriorated and resulted in the brake lights falsely illuminating at random times. Furthermore, the condition - when occurring - resulted in the car overriding any throttle inputs, making for random inability to provide throttle inputs.
"Hybrid system warning, stop safely and do not drive" and "check brake" alarm. Car immediately went into limp mode (15mph top speed). Luckily, I was not on the highway, but on residential street. Alarm was not recoverable by restarting car. Dealer says its the hydraulic brake booster and will cost $3250 to fix. Vehicle at 80,000 miles.
The brakes lights (all three) wont shut off even when the vehicle is not on.
AHB Hydraulic Break Module Failure car only has 60k miles.
About 1 month after I bought this vehicle, late December 2021, a warning light came on the hybrid screen, it read "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop And Do Not Drive!" The accelerator was not working I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. I waited a couple minutes and restarted it up again and went on my merry way. About a month later it happened again!! It's happened about every 5 weeks until June 16th at about 5pm, it now permanently chimes and beeps with the Hybrid screen warning me of the same, my foot brake goes to the bottom and makes a grinding noise. I am not able to drive it more than 100 yards or so then the accelerator fails again. I owned a mechanic shop and I know my brakes are fine, there has to be something wrong with the brake pumps/master cylinder, the brake fluid reservoir is full and the brakes electrical components make a horrible noise when I depress the foot pedal, I've read on Hyundai Forum on-line, that this has happened to various others, its happened on the freeway while I was going about 70mph!! It's happened on busy city streets with 45mph speed limits. Hyundai doesn't want to take any responsibility for it! What can I do? The dealer wants $200 to have it checked with no guarantee that they'll find the problem. Thank you [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The brake pedal stopper pad deteriorated, allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal was released. This kept my break lights on even when the car was turned off, which lead to issues with my accelerator randomly giving out while I was on the road, and my traction control forced off.
On March 19th I was involved in wreck where the other driver was at fault. The lady t-boned me on my driver's side. Airbags never deployed so my head smashed Into the window leaving me with a concussionand spinal injury. My usually working horn failed as well. I would also like to mention that I have only had this car a year. I was also told it was never in a wreck and had 1 owner. Nope. A week after I got it, I was driving and my engine seized while I was doing 70mph. The steering stopped working, but somehow managed to pull off to the side. i had to stay in my car because of the busy highway. It was 100+ weather and my windows wouldn't work. I sat there for 2 hours. Took the car to a shop just to find out about the engine recall that I believe my car wasn't apart of, but should have been. Fought with Hyundai for them to fix it then lost my job because I was denied a loaner car while waiting. 2 months later they finally fix it. Now the breaks do a weird grinding thing a lot, my shifter slips out of place, the steering column wobbles, the engine is constantly making a disturbing noise and is sluggish, it has trouble shifting when accelerating. I have had the car rapidly accelerate instead of slow down when stopping at a stop sign or light. I only got it to stop after stomping the breaks repeatedly while throwing it in park and turning the car off all at the same time. Emergency break and traction control light come on a lot. It's throwing a high speed can bus code, but only sometimes. My gas mileage has went down to 16-18 mpg. Oil changes are necessary every month. AND my taillights burn out every 1 to 2 months. Now I have 4 traffic tickets. And that was all BEFORE the wreck. Hyundai refuses to call me back after they reluctantly fixed the first recall.
After the recent recall repairs, the car started to intermittently getting a message on the dashboard saying ‘Hybrid System Warning - Safely stop and do not drive’ and ‘Check brakes’ and the brake lights came on with a loud chiming beep, the car would stop accelerating and would not go beyond 10 mph, also the breaks would fail to apply correctly and made a loud screeching sound when applied. It used to do have this issue without any warning, while driving or stopped at the light, without any distinguishing pattern. However, it used to go away when the car was restarted multiple times. However now the message is on continuously and doesn’t go away with the restarting the car. After taking to the dealership, they said that the repairs would cost $3000 as the Hydraulic Power Assembly unit has failed. After looking for the issue online, I have found that a lot of the 2011-14 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid have this same issue and seems to be a manufacturing defect. This is a huge life risk for the owners of this car since it can happen while on the freeway and pose a life threatening risk to their life. It is also a huge financial burden for the owners for a manufacturing defect. I would like you to investigate these issues and provide us with a appropriate solution.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that upon depression of the brake pedal, an abnormal grinding noise would emit from the brake pedal without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where they found no fault with the vehicle. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer on multiple occasions where software updates were performed and rotors were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact had also taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the driver’s side rear brake caliper piston was replaced; however, the repair did not correct the failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

I am experiencing the exact same issues described in a previous recall of 2006 to 2007 model affecting the brake lamp switch. My brake lamps remain illuminated after release of the brake pedal, and the ESC light illuminates on the dash
At 28,000 miles the ABH pressure sensor failed c1237 Hydraulic Power Unit. Dealership charged $2947.95 for the repair. $2141.55 just for the part. The brakes completely failed and the car required towing.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the brake lights were continually illuminated. The contact called the local dealer but, vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was concerned about a possible fire. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

The rear brake lights burned out can't replace the light because the wiring harness melted and y'all no longer sell replacement wiring harness at the store or dealership for my vehicle make and model I was told I would have to make a out of pocket costly repair to install a new model wiring harness. I keep getting pulled over by the cops cause I don't have break lights. Worse case someone could run into the back of me. This issue is a Hyundai issue. It's so many Hyundai sonata riding around without break lights. Please fix this issue.
After driving one day, I noticed the brake lights on without anybody in the car, they would not turn off whatever I tried. The next symptom was the traction control turned off and would not function via dashboard button. the next symptom was, while driving, cruise control turned on without myself doing so, set it's speed and maintained, I was approaching a 4 way stop and depressed the brake expecting cruise control to disengage, it did not, I pressed the brake again this time holding it down while the car continued to revv, the engine continuing to attempt to speed up while pressing the brake. The only thing stopping the car was the on and off button on the steering wheel. I finally came to a screeching halt half way into the intersection, the brakes were locked up and vehicle would not move, the dealership claims no responsibility in anything and blames it in fact on myself putting the wrong brake fluid into the vehicle. I had not put anything into the vehicle, the dealership was the last to touch it when they did a complete engine replacement in Jan 2021. Vehicle is currently in their possession and available for inspection. No warning lights came on and vehicle began to function normally after, and I have not driven it since. I do not feel safe any longer in the vehicle. Dealership wants me to pay for all new brakes, rotors, brake light switch and brake flush, all which I feel is dancing around the real issue of the brakes and the cruise control. This is a real serious safety issue to anyone with this same vehicle and the potential for a serious possibly fatal accident, dealership doesn't seem to think it's a serious issue, and instructed me to drive the vehicle home, I did not!!!!!
When driving the “Check Brake” warning comes out and the brakes hit the tires allowing for minimal movement of the vehicle. Right after that, a “Hybrid System Warning - Safely Stop and Do Not Drive” comes up. At times, The warnings will continue for days or hours and other times, imthey would just disappear. When bringing the car to the dealer they wouldn’t be able to understand the issue as the warnings suddenly disappear and they would just start guess-repairing the car which can be extremely expensive for us the consumers
I was driving on the freeway and I put my foot on the gas to accelerate and my car would not go. It had no power. It is intermittent. I can be driving and it is fine then all of a sudden it won’t go more then 30 mph. My brake lights are always going out. Now my break lights won’t turn off.
I was driving on the Highway and my vehicle started blinking with all of the check lights going off and it stated “hybrid system warning stop and pull over immediately”. The car seemed to continue to jerk with the gas than the brakes went off. My steering wheel would not allow my to turn and I was very close to getting into an accident. My 6 month old baby was in the car and I feared for both of our lives. Every time I turn the car on it states the same thing... please help me
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH GRINDING NOISE. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE.

STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, GEAR IN DRIVE AND THE BRAKE DEPRESSED, BUT THE ENGINE STARTED TO REV AND LURCH FORWARD--WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE. MOVED FORWARD A COUPLE OF FEET WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE FOOT BRAKE BUT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP ON ITS OWN.

A WARNING KEEPS HAPPENING WITH NO CODES IT SAYS TO CHECK BRAKES AND PULL OVER I CAN ONLY GO ABOUT 15 MILES AN HOUR AND THE BRAKES PEDAL HAS A WEIRD GRINDING NOISE LIKE IT'S SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ABS SYSTEM IT IS VERY SCARY AND IT DOES IT INTERMITTENTLY
THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN ON ITS OWN AND WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO REV UP EVEN WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DOWN. ALSO THE LIGHT FOR TRACTION CONTROL TURNS ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT WHETHER THE CAR IS ON OR OFF.
FOR 6 MONTHS I HAVE RECEIVED EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING! SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE" ALSO "CHECK BRAKES" MOST RECENTLY THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING 65MPH AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. MOST OFTEN THIS OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS LOOKED AT IT TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE SECOND TIME THEY WERE "UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM" AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. AS THE CAR LOST POWER WHILE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON THE BRAKES MUST BE FULLY PRESSED DOWN TO ENGAGE. I FILED A CASE WITH HYUNDAI BUT HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE IN TWO WEEKS

THE CATALYST CONVERSION IS NOT WORKING RIGHT I HAVE CHANGE IT AND IT STILL HAVE GAS SMELLS COME INTO THE CAR.

COULD NOT START CAR PARKED IN THE GARAGE, AND FAULT DRAINED BATTERY. WARNING LIGHTS SAID DO NOT OPERATE CAR HYBRID SYSTEM NOT FUNCTIONING. HAVE CAR TOWED. ALSO HAD BRAKE WARING LIGHT LIGHT UP ON DASH. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED. GOOD THING THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING BUT WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR. DEALER REPORTED THAT ABS MODULE FAILED. 57,200 MILES ON VEHICLE. REPAIR COST ESTIMATE IS OVER $3,200.
Mileage: 57,200
THE BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT EVERY COUPLE MONTHS. YOU CAN CHECK FROM MY VIN THAT I HAVE ONLY SERVICED FROM LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SINCE I BOUGHT IT FROM THEM. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND THIS PROBLEM IS AFFECTING MANY HYUNDAI MODELS. BASICALLY, THE BRAKE LIGHT SOCKET IS SO HOT THAT IT BURNS AND MELTS THE LIGHT BULB. THIS IS REALLY A FIRE HAZARD. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL YET ON THIS PROBLEM? OVER THE PAST YEAR, I HAVE REPLACED MY LIGHT BULBS LIKE 4 OR 5 TIMES. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK INTO THIS. IT WILL SAVE A LOTS OF PEOPLE
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR MAKES AN AWFUL BEEPING NOISE AND SAYS HYBRID SYSTEM MALFUNCTION SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE AND THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON IN THE DASH. WHILE ALL BRAKE FUNCTION IS SUDDENLY GONE AND I HAVE TO STOP WITH THE E-BRAKE. THIS HAPPENED BOTH ON THE CITY STREETS COUNTRY HIGHWAYS AND FREEWAYS AT RANDOM TIMES. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE HYDROLIC BRAKE PUMP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE NOVEMBER.
Mileage: 130,165
DRIVING HOME ON NOVEMBER 24TH 2018 I WAS ON A GRAM TO MARKET ROAD AND A DEER JUMPED IN FRONT OF THE CAR. WHEN I WENT TO BRAKE AND THE CAR MADE A HIGH SCREETCH AND DIDN'T STOP. WHEN I HIT THE DEER NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. IT HAD JUST BEEN RETURNED TO ME FROM THE PREVIOUS ENGINE RECALL
Mileage: 10,000
LOUD BEEPING ALARM GOES OFF, THE POWER BEHIND THE GAS PEDAL STARTS TO DECREASE AND BREAKS START TO MAKE A TERRIBLE GRINDING SOUND. THE SCREEN SAYS TO STOP SO I HAVE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. EVEN AFTER I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON THE YELLOW '(!)' SIGN WAS STILL FLASHING AND THE BEEPING ALARM STARTED AGAIN. THE SCREEN SAYS 'HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING...' THEN CHANGES TO 'CHECK BRAKES'. THE RED EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT IS ON CONSTANTLY. IT HAS DONE THIS 3 TIMES IN PAST 4 DAYS.
Mileage: 82,000
I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED AND TURNED OFF IN THE GARAGE. ON FURTHER INSPECTION THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH STOPPER HAD DISINTEGRATED AND WAS NO LONGER DEPRESSING THE SWITCH. THE VEHICLE COULD SHIFT OUT OF GEAR WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE. I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS WAS REPAIRED. THIS WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED IN 2016 UNDER A RECALL FOR A SIMILAR FAILURE. I DROVE A SEPARATE VEHICLE TO OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT PART AND THE PROBLEM IS NOW FIXED. THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE FAILURE.
Mileage: 76,000
WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2020 I NOTICED EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE WHEN I PUSH ON THE BRAKE THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THE PANEL FELT VERY SPONGY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIX THE LIGHT THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE PEDAL FEEL WAS NORMAL. BUT KIA AND HYUNDAI HAVE A RECALL OUT RIGHT NOW IT DOES NOT COVER MY CAR BUT FROM WHAT I'VE READ OF THE RECALL IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING TO MY CAR. THE PEDAL FEELS VERY SPONGY IT ALWAYS FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING DOWN TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKE

WHILE DRIVING 25 MILES ON WALNUT ST IN RIALTO CA .ALL OF A SUDDEN MY HYBRID HYUNDAI SONATA MADE A GRINDING NOISE AND STOP RESPONDING I AVOID HITTING A CAR INFRONT OF ME AND APPROACHED THE SIDE WALK MESSING UP MY RIGHT FRONT BUMPER, WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED I PUT THE CAR ON PARK AND IT MADE A NASTY GRINDING SOUND. I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR ON D AND IT WOULDN'T MOVE I PUT IT ON R AND NOTHING. IT WAS A VERY SCARRY EXPERIENCE, I WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING YOU CAN HELP ME WITH IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THATS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE BECAUSE THE GEARS ARE NOT WORKINGIT . IT HAS 149346 MILES

HAVING PURCHASED THE AFOREMENTIONED VIN LAST MONTH, THE BREAK LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN THO THE CAR IS OFF, THUS DRAINING THE BATTERY. WITH A HEIGHTENED FEAR OF BEING REAR-ENDED, OR WORSE, FOR THE NOW WE DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE. ALSO, THE CAR WANTS TO STALL WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE ACCELERATION IS DELAYED, THIS AT ANY SPEED. FEARFUL OF THE ENGINE CATCHING AFIRE, WE APPRECIATE POST HASTE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER BEING PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR BRAKE LIGHT WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE BRAKE LAMP BULB WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, BRAKE LAMP WAS STILL INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LAMP WARNING LIGHT REMAINED DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V759000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE I RECEIVED A LOUD CHIME AND A WARNING ON THE SMALL SCREEN ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATING A BRAKE FAILURE, AND THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS A VERY LOUD GRINDING AND CHATTERING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THERE WAS ALMOST NO BRAKING ACTION. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT. THE SAME SYMPTOMS OCCURRED. I THEN CHECKED OUTSIDE OF THE CAR FOR LEAKING FLUID. THERE WAS NONE. I OPENED THE HOOD AND INSPECTED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND FOUND IT APPROXIMATELY 3/4 FULL OF BRAKE FLUID. I WIGGLED THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE FLUID CONNECTIONS ALSO. I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND ATTEMPTED A RESTART. THE CAR STARTED WITHOUT A PROBLEM.

HAD A HARD TIME STEERING AND BRAKING, BUT LUCKILY THERE WAS NO VEHICLE AROUND. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE ENGINE AS FAILING/SEIZED. RECALL 132 WAS PERFORMED, BUT ENGINE WAS NOT REPLACED AND ONLY INSPECTED. RECALL DESCRIPTION : GDI ENGINE INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT. ; COMPLETED : MAY 23, 2018

I HAVE A 2012 SONATA HYBRID 94,000 MILES. I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT ON 09/21/2019 WHEN I HAD A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. THANK GOD, I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 10 MPH. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND FROM ALL THE WHEELS. CHIMING ALARM. "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING. CHECK BRAKES". PARKED THE CAR. GOT OUT AND LOOKED ALL AROUND. NO LEAKS. CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL, AND IT WAS OK. TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND NO BRAKE DASH WARNINGS OR CHIMING. BACKED CAR UP AND NO GRINDING SOUND. CALLED DEALER. HYBRID MECHANIC HAPPENED TO BE NEAR PHONE. I WAS TOLD TO CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND TURN CAR OFF AND ON TO SEE IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. ALREADY DID THAT WITH NO PROBLEMS. HAD TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME WHICH WAS 180 MILES AWAY. IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE NOW. HAD A LOCAL BRAKE SHOP CHECK FOR LEAKS, ETC. NO PROBLEMS. THEY PLUGGED INTO THE CAR'S COMPUTER, AND THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES. RELUCTANT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER WHEN NO CURRENT PROBLEM EXISTS. DON'T WANT THEM TO JUST START REPLACING PARTS WHICH ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND AS MUCH AS $3,000 TOTAL INSTALLED. FOUND IDENTICAL ISSUES REPORTED AT HTTPS://WWW.HYUNDAI-FORUMS.COM/THREADS/BRAKES-FAILURE-ON-SONATA-HYBRID.155580/PAGE-4 ALONG WITH SHARED CONCERN ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE TRAVELING DOWN A STEEP HILL AT 75 MPH AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS?

WHEN DRIVING IN HUNTSVILLE, AL ON CITY STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY WHEN I'M TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL IT MAKES A CLICKING NOISE AND THE COLUMN APPEARS LOOSE. THE BRAKES ARE STICKING AND REQUIRES ME TO PUSH DOWN HARD TO STOP MY VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED THE FRONT LIGHTS AND BACK ENDS LIGHTS NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY CONTINUE TO GO OUT FREQUENTLY. I PURCHASED NEW TIRES IN JUNE 2019 FROM BENTLEY HYUNDAI IN HUNTSVILLE, AL AND WHILE DRIVING THE TIRE TUBE POPPED AND DEFLATED. THERE WERE NO NAILS IN THE TIRE. THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE TUBE. I ALMOST CRASHED.

CARS BRAKE LIGHTS ARE CONTINUOUSLY LIT EVEN WHEN ENGINE AND DRIVER HAS TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND LEFT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THAT IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE SONATAS. THEY CALLED THE PROBLEM TSB/STOP LAMP SWITCH. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM EITHER STATIONARY, MOVING OR ENGINE & KEY TURNED OFF. IT ALSO SHOWS SIGNS OF ENGINE HESITATION WHEN FIRST MOVING.
Mileage: 74,560

LAST NIGHT AFTER PARKING, MY BREAK LIGHTS REMAINED LIT. MY FATHER AND I BOTH CHECKED EITHER ANYTHING INSIDE WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE EMERGENCY BREAK WAS NOT ENGAGED. I DROVE ABOUT 20 MILES TO WORK THE NEXT MORNING (LIGHTS STILL ON). PARKED AT WORK, LIGHTS STAYED ON. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE AROUND 50 MPH. CAR BRAKED/DECELERATED INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING. I EXITED HIGHWAY IMMEDIATELY AND PULLED INTO A NEIGHBORHOOD. I AM ABLE TO PULL THE LEVER TO CHANGE INTO R/N/D WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE DOWN (YOU SHOULD HAVE TO PRESS BREAK FIRST BEFORE SWITCHING). I KNOW THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE FOR ELANTRAS AND SONATAS AT SOME POINT, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IT INCLUDED MY CARS YEAR. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY RECALL THINGS, IT SEEMS MAYBE HYUNDAI JUST MAKES FAULTY PRODUCTS. 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. 78,000 MILES. TRACTION LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING THIS AM, BUT PERHAPS UNRELATED AS IT WAS FOGGY AND SO MAYBE SLIPPERY?
Mileage: 78,280
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD JUST ENTERED THE THE EXIT RAMP LANE. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF DE-ACCELERATING BECAUSE I WAS CLOSE TO THE EXIT RAMP. I HAD AMPLE SPACE IN BETWEEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND MYSELF. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME RAPIDLY STOPPED AND I HIT MY BRAKES HARD TO PREVENT CRASHING. WHEN I HIT MY BRAKES HARD, MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I DID NOT HAVE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT FELT LIKE I WAS SLIDING ON ICE. SINCE I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP, I SKIDDED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO MY CAR. MY CAR WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY INSURANCE. IF MY BRAKES WERE WORKING CORRECTLY, THERE WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SO MUCH DAMAGE BECAUSE I DID HAVE AMPLE TIME TO STOP. IN ADDITION, I HAD JUST HAD ALL NEW BRAKE AND ROTORS PUT ON MY BRAKES WITHIN THE LAST TWO WEEKS OF THE ACCIDENT. MY FRONT BRAKES WERE DONE WITHIN THE YEAR OF THE ACCIDENT.

HELLO. SO I AM DRIVING HYUNDAI SONATA 2012 SINCE FEBRUARY 2015. I BOUGH IT USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 42000 MILES. WHEN I BOUGH A CAR I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION BUT REALIZED THAT BRAKING ON LOW SPEEDS DOWNHILL OR ON FLAT SURFACE - BRAKES WOULD GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. AT AROUND 55000 MILES I REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AND DID BRAKE FLUID CHANGE, AND THEN LATER I REPLACED REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. THE ISSUES STILL IS THERE. AT 107000 MILES I RECENTLY CHANGED AGAIN FRONT PADS AND ROTORS AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE DEALER SAID THAT IT IT FAULT HECU UNIT. I SAW THAT THERE IS RECALL #13V489000 FOR HYUNDAI GENESIS WITH WHAT APPEARS LIKE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IS THERE A CHANCE THAT MY VEHICLE IS AFFECTED BY THAT RECALL? OR THAT YOU HAVE SOME COMPLAINS FROM OTHER OWNERS OR CURRENT INVESTIGATION ON THIS MATTER?
Mileage: 42,000
WHILE DRIVING AND PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR IT ACTS AS IF ITS NOT GETTING ANY GAS, SO WHEN I REMOVE MY FOOT AND REPRESS IT, IT MOVES RIGHT ALONG. IT HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES IN THE LAST 24 HOURS. NOW, I EXITED THE CAR AND WENT INTO THE HOUSE AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON.
Mileage: 99,870
I BELIEVE MY CAR HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V759000 BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD DETERIORATION I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT BEING PRESSED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO COME ON AND STAY ILLUMINATED PREVENTING ACCURATE COMMUNICATION TO REARWARD FOLLOWING VEHICLES THAT THE VEHICLE IS SLOWING OR STOPPING. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SHIFT THE THE TRANSMISSION OUT OF PARK WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. LASTLY, WHEN THIS ALL OCCURS WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE LOSES POWER AS OFF I AM PRESSING THE BREAK. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET, HIGHWAY AND WHILE TURNING.

RUBBER BREAK STOPPER FALL OFF THE BREAK PAD.I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR WHICH THEY STATED 'NO',AND I ENDED UP PAYING 152.31 FOR THE FIX WHICH HAS A GUARANTEE FOR AS LONG AS I OWN MY CAR IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN.I RECENTLY CHECKED MY CREDIT ON CREDIT KARMA WHICH SHOW MY INFORMATION AS OWNER OF THE 2012 SONATA AND IT SHOWS THE BREAK LIGHT RECALL WHICH I WAS CORRECT WHEN I NOTICED THE PROBLEM.AND IT SHOW ON MY CREDIT KARMA AS NOT DONE AS YET.I HAVE RECEIPT OF PROOF THAT THEY DID THE JOB AND CHARGED ME THE 152.31 WHICH I WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO PAY AS IT IS A RECALL.MY WIFE NOTICED THAT THE BREAK LIGHT STAYED ON WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF.IT WAS FIXED ON APRIL 30TH 2018.I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT BEING A RECALL BUT THEY DENIED IT.I FOUND OUT IT WAS A RECALL THROUGH MY CREDIT KARMA AND VIN NUMBER.

ARRIVING AT BUSY INTERSECT WHEN ACCELERATORS AND BRAKES CEASED TO WORK ALL DASH LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING AND I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH FOR LIGHT TO BE GREEN AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AT SHOULDER THROUGH INTERSECTION W FLASHERS AND HORN BLOWING ! I RESTARTED CAR AND PULLED INTO A LOCAL BUSINESS W A CLUNKING NOISE!! WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC WHO HAS REGULARLY SERVICED THIS VEHICLE THAT IT WAS THE ENGINE ! WHY BRAKE/ACCELERATION NOT WORKING ?? I WAS TOLD HE'S HAD 3 OTHER SONATAS IN THIS MONTH THAT 'JUST BURNED UP ALL THE OIL ' WITHOUT A LIGHT ON OR ANYTHING. I COULD HAVE BEEN ON S BUSY HIGHWAY AND KILLED IN ADDITION TO RISK TO OTHERS.

TAKATA RECALL I WAS DRIVING IN CARROLTON, GA ONE EVENING AND WAS PULLED OVER BY AN OFFICER AND WAS TOLD BOTH OF MY BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING AT OR AROUND THE SAME TIME HE GAVE ME UNTIL NOV. 27TH, 2018 TO GET THEM FIXED. I WAS AT FIRST REPLACING THE BULBS AND THEY WOULD BURN OUT. I STARTED CALLING AROUND TO DIFFERENT SHOPS TO GET THEM FIXED AND THEY WERE ALL TELLING ME THE SAME THING. THAT IS HAS BECOME VERY COMMON WITH MY CAR( HYUNDAI SONATA) AND THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE SYSTEM. I FOUND OUT THAT IS WHAT I HAVE TO DO AND A TOTAL OF $500 TO GET BOTH DONE. I MISSED MY DUE DATE TO GET THWM FIXED BECAUSE IT WASNT A SIMPLE REPLACE THE LIGHT BULB FIXED AND REQUIRED MORE MONEY. IF THIS IS TRUE WHY HAVEN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ON THE BRAKE LIGHTS? BRAKE LIGHTS ARE VERY IMPORTANT AND UNSAFE IF THAT ARE NOT WORKING HENCE WHY IT IS AGAINST THE LAW. IF MOST LR ALL YOUR CARS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM YOU SHOULD BE THE ONES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE REMAINING ILLUMINATED WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND WHEN DRIVING. REAR DRIVERS MAY NOT KNOW THAT I'M STOPPING OR DRIVING BECAUSE THE LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS ILLUMINATED.
WHILE DRIVING IN MOTION OR AFTER DRIVING BRIEFLY AFTER A COMPLETE STOP. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT MAY COME ON, OR THE ACTUAL BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD START TO FLICKER FOR NO REASON. THE RPMS ON THE CAR WOULD DROP VERY LOW AND THEN RISE OVER 3000. THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN DECELERATE AND NOT ALLOW TO GO HIGHER THAN 25 MPH. THE ENGINE ALSO MAKES A KNOCKING NOISE. THIS HAS CAUSED TWO NEAR ACCIDENTS ,ONE BEING T-BONED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND ANOTHER ALMOST BEING HIT IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN STATED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AT LEAST TWICE AND THEY STATE THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG THAT WOULD CAUSE THESE ISSUES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO TAYLOR HYUNDAI OF AUGUSTA EACH TIME TO BE INSPECTED.

MY CAR IS NOT STARTING UP. WHEN I PUSH KEY START AND PRESS THE BRAKES THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH COMES ON BUT THE CAR WONT START. IF I WAIT A FEWS HOURS THEN IT WILL START. I HAVE WAITED AS LONG AS 5 HOURS IN A PARKING GARAGE. THE CAR READS "KEY NOT IN VEHICLE". I HAVE GOTTEN NEW BATTERIES FOR BOTH KEY FOBS. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR DID THIS AFTER A FEW HOURS LATER IT STARTED AND I DIDN'T HAVE AN ISSUE FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS. SINCE THAT TIME THE CAR HAS NOT STARTED ON 3 OTHER OCCASIONS. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID I NEEDED THE FUEL INJECTORS CLEANED. SO I PAID TO HAVE THAT DONE AND THEN THE CAR STARTED EVERY TIME FOR ONE DAY. THE VERY NEXT DAY THE WOULDN'T START AGAIN IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER AN HOUR IT STARTED AND THEN THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING AND MY DAUGHTER MISSED WORK. WHEN THE CAR DOESN'T START ALL THE LIGHTS AND RADIO COME ON BUT THE CAR JUST WONT START. EVERY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED THE CAR HAS BEEN STATIONARY. I CANT LEAVE MY CAR RUNNING WHILE I GO TO THE STORE BECAUSE I'M AFRAID IT WILL NOT TURN BACK ON. I HAVE READ ARTICLE ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE FROM OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE PUSH START VEHICLE.

ON 6/16/18 MY CAR BRAKE LIGHT CAUGHT ON FIRE. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT WE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT WE GOT A TICKET FOR THE LIGHTS STAYING ON. THE LIGHT WOULD SOMETIMES NOT TURN OFF OR NOT TURN ON. THEN THE CAR SEEM TO BE WORKING GREAT AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE CAR 3 MONTHS AGO HOPING THAT IT WOULD BE GREAT ON GAS, LAST ME AT LEAST 20 YEARS, AND THAT IT WAS A GREAT CAR TO KEEP MY FAMILY SAFE. NEXT, THING I KNOW PEOPLE ARE FLASHING THEIR LIGHTS AND BEEPING THEIR HORNS AND ACTING STRANGE TRYING TO GET ME AND MY FIANC'S ATTENTION. WHEN WE BOTH LOOKED BACK WE SAW THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE WHILE WE WERE MOVING 45 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY. WE PULLED OVER ALL OF THE BYSTANDERS HELPED US PUT OUT THE FIRE. WHEN IT WAS FINALLY OUT THE LIGHT HAD MELTED OFF AND THE ONLY THING THAT WAS HANGING WAS WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE ELECTRICAL WIRES THAT ATTACHED ONCE WAS THE LIGHT BULB.

BRAKE LIGHTS FAIL TO LIGHT WHEN NEEDED. ALSO, THE ESC ALERT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE ESC LIGHT COMES ON, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK. HOWEVER, THE BRAKE LAMPS HAVE NOT WORKED WHEN THE ESC IS NOT ON. SEEMS RELATED BUT NOT ENTIRELY EXCLUSIVE. DO KNOW THAT THERE WAS A BRAKE LAMP DEFECT FOR THE 2006-07 HYUNDAI SONATAS AND THERE WAS A RECALL. THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED.

MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF, EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY WAS REMOVED. EVEN THOUGH300,000 SAME MODEL CARS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, MY EXACT VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN PART OF THE RECALL AND I HAD TO PAY $250 TO FIX IT. I CALLED HYUNDAI (CASE 10974149) AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR.

HYUNDAI HAD A MASSIVE RECALL 15V-759 FOR 2011-2012 SONOATA (AND OTHER VEHICLES) FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD. IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND WORE OUT WHICH MADE THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON OUR VEHICLE DOEN'T SHOW UP ON THE RECAL EVEN THOUGHT IT HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHARGED US TO FIX IT. WE CALLED THE HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS CASE # 10929935 AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP US. WHY? IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AND IS A 2012 SONATA WITH THE SAME DEFECTED BREAK PEDAL PAD! THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON AND DRAINED THE BATTERY

SUDDEN UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION ON A HIGHWAY GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. SAW BRAKE LIGHTS ON VEHICLES AND STARTED BRAKING. SUDDENLY, MY VEHICLE SPED UP, CATCHING UP TO THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS BOBBING UP AND DOWN, BUT NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT KNOW HOW FAST I WAS GOING WHEN I FINALLY HIT THE OTHER VEHICLE. WE BOTH GOT OUT OF OUR VEHICLES AND TO MY SURPRISE, THERE WAS NO DAMAGE ON EITHER VEHICLE. (MIRACLE) THERE WAS NO POLICE OR TOW TRUCKS CALLED. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR HOME SAFELY. MY CAR WILL PROBABLY BE SOLD BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS. ALSO, THERE WERE NO INJURIES. I WAS SO NERVOUS I DID NOT KNOW WHAT KIND OF VEHICLE I HIT OR IF THERE WERE OTHER PASSENGERS.

I HAVE HAD 4 POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS WHICH ILLUMINATES WHILE DRIVING. SPECIFICALLY, WHILE DRIVING WITH MY TODDLER ON THE EXPRESSWAY, PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES OUT OF NO WHERE CAUSING THE CAR TO SLOW ALL DOWN AND HAS EVEN STOPPED WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE GAS PEDAL. OR ORDER TO GET SPEED I HAVE HAD TO RELEASE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, PLACE MY FOOT BEHIND THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THEN PRESS THE GAS AGAIN. WHEN PLACING THE CAR IN PARK THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON. I HAVE HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY IN AN EFFORT TO PRESERVE MY BATTERY. I CALLED INTO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THERE WAS NO RECALLS HOWEVER, THIS SAFETY ISSUE RESEMBLES THAT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V759000 (SERVICE BRAKES) (BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER) RECALL #136, 132.
BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED, DESPITE CAR BEING OFF. REQUIRED TO DISCONNECT BATTERY TERMINAL TO PRESERVE BATTERY. TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LAMP ALSO REMAINS ON/ILLUMINATED AS WELL. CAR CAN SHIFT BETWEEN ALL (PARK, NEUTRAL, REVERSE, DRIVE) WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BREAK PEDAL. THIS IS SIMILAR IF NOT IDENTICAL TO RECALL 136 FOR HYUNDAI, HOWEVER, MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING THE RECALL DESPITE EXACT PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED. THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT MATTER IF CAR IS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY.. IT IS CONSTANT. *TR

I PURCHASED THE CAR IN JUNE 2014 IT WAS USED AND HAD 38,940 MILES. I'VE HAD TO BUY THREE 3 STARTERS & 1 BATTERY SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE MECHANIC IN FLORIDA STATED THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WHICH WAS SHORTING OUT MY STARTER/BATTERY. I TOOK THE CAR TO RICK CASE HYUNDAI IN PLANTATION, FL, AFTER THE FIRST STARTER DIED, I DO NOT RECALL THE EXACT DATE AND THEY TOLD ME TO GET A REFUND FROM HYUNDAI AS IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD HAVE BEEN BETWEEN SEPT.-DEC. 2014. I HAVE ONLY BEEN REIMBURSED $310.00 FROM HYUNDAI TO DATE FOR THE FIRST STARTER. I GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000-5,000 MILES. I TOOK THE CAR TO LITHIA HYUNDAI IN FRESNO TWICE, JAN. 2016 FOR RECALL 132 ' THEY CLAIMED NOTHING IS WRONG. SEVEN MONTHS LATER I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. FIRST COMPLAINT, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR HOME LAST NIGHT THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND STALLED WHILE DRIVING; I HAD TO TAP THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND THE CAR TOOK OFF. THIS HAPPENED ON A BUSY ROAD WITH CARS AROUND. WHEN BACKING THE CAR, THERE IS A KNOCKING NOISE. THIS MORNING, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT, BECAUSE IT WOULD SLOW DOWN WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE GAS PEDAL ' IT WAS LIKE I AM RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND I HAVE THE TANK ALMOST FULL. IT WOULD TAKE OFF AGAIN AFTER TAPPING THE GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES. THIS WAS ON A VERY BUSY ROAD WITH A LOT OF CARS. MY FIANC TOOK THE CAR AUGUST 2016 TO VISALIA HYUNDAI AND THEY TRIED TO CLAIM MY CAR/VIN # DOES NOT SHOW IT AS BEING UNDER RECALL. I HAD TO PAY $81.00 TO GET THAT FIXED AND THAT ISSUE WAS PART OF A RECALL AS WELL BUT I WAS TOLD MY VIN # DID NOT SHOW UP FOR IT. I HAVE HAD ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND ENGINE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE 2014 & HYUNDAI HAS DONE NOTHING. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THEY FAILED TO DO ANYTHING. I'VE PAID A LOT OF $$$ MONTHLY FOR THIS CAR & ON REPAIRS FOR A CAR THAT ISN'T SAFE. *TR

WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE TURNED AROUND THEN STARTED GOING FORWARD MY ENTIRE CAR AND BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. I QUICKLY THROUGH ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THAT STOPPED ME FROM HITTING A TREE. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED THERE AS THE NEXT MORNING I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON A 2 LANE MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY WITH ALL 3 OF MY DAUGHTERS ON A HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. HYUNDAI BREAK SWITCH, HYUNDAI BREAK LIGHTS, SUNROOF, AIR CONDITIONING BREAK SWITCH GONE OUT FOUR TIMES. TOOK TO SAVANNAH HYUNDAI TO BE FIXED. NO FIX AS CAR CONTINUALLY DOES NOT ACCELERATE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE - ON THE HIGHWAY OR WHEN GETTING READY TO PULL OUT IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC - VERY UNSAFE. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CORP CONCERNING THIS ISSUE SINCE 2015. SAVANNAH HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER MIKE TOLD US THAT WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO RETURN FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY GOT FRUSTRATED TRYING TO FIGURE OUT. BREAK LIGHT NEVER WORKS. HAD THIS REPAIRED 3 TIMES. SAVANNAH HYUNDAI PUT NEW SUNROOF ON. FOUR MONTHS LATER IT WONT OPEN OR CLOSE. WE HAVE PAID FOR EVERYTHING OVER AND OVER AND OVER USING OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY AND COPAYS. EVEN IF HYUNDAI OR SAVANNAH HYUNDAI PREVIOUSLY FIXED SOMETHING AND IT WAS EVEN WITHIN 90 TO 120 DAYS THAT THE REPAIR WAS BAD, THEY NEVER OFFERED TO FIX WITHOUT CHARGE. ALWAYS MADE US REPAY FULL DEDUCTIBLE AND COSTS.. CAR DOES NOT TURN ON AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY. TRIPS GET AWFULLY HOT. SOMETIMES STARTING UP CAR AND RESTARTING FIXES. SAVANNAH HYUNDAI NEVER ABLE TO FIX. SAVANNAH HYUNDAI HAS REPORTED ON TWO OCCASIONS THAT OUR CAR HAS SERIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THEY BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO SUNROOF AND BRAKE LIGHT. THIS CAR HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES BEFORE 60,000 MILES AND STIL LHAS UNDER 90,000 AND SAME ISSUES REPEATEDLY. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAR IS UNSAFE. THE ENGINE OIL PAN WAS RESEALED FIVE TIMES AND STILL ITS LEAKING. WHEN THEY RESEALED THE SECOND TIME, THEY REPLACED THE OIL PAN AS WELL. AFTER THAT IT WAS RESEALED THREE MORE TIMES AND THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER FOR SIXTH RESEAL. THEY ARE REPLACING THE PAN AGAIN. THE BRAKE CALIPER PISTONS ARE EXHIBITING EXCESSIVE RUST WHICH I HAVE NOT SEEN IN MY LIFE WHILE OWNING AND MAINTAINING VARIOUS CARS. THE FIELD ENGINEER IS SAYING THAT ITS NORMAL AND I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT. WHAT I HAVE SEEN BASED ON THAT IT'S A DESIGN FLAW. THE CALIPER PISTON SHOULD BE PRESSING COMPLETELY AGAINST THE BRAKE PAD SURFACE AREA WHERE AS SMALL PORTION OF THE CALIPER REMAINS IN NON CONTACT WITH THE PAD AND THE SALT AND SLUSH DURING THE WINTER GETS INTO IT MAKING IT RUST WHICH WILL IMPEDE THE BRAKING OPERATION IN FUTURE AND MAY CAUSE A FATAL CRASH. ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPHS ARE SHOWING PACK RUST INSIDE THE PISTON ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V759000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE VEHICLE HAS A HISTORY OF LOSING POWER COMPLETELY. AT THIS POINT I AM UNABLE TO ENTER THE CAR WITH THE KEYLESS ENTRY, YOU HAVE TO DO IT MANUALLY. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE STREET. ONCE YOU PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION THE HORN/ALARM GOES OFF AND DOESN'T STOP. IT ALSO SEEMS TO BE REVVING WHILE IT IS IN PARK. WHILE DRIVING I EXPERIENCE LITTLE POWER SURGES FROM THE CAR WHERE IT ACCELERATES WITH ME TRYING TO DO ANYTHING. THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER INSTANCE WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT START ONCE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. ONCE DISENGAGED THE CAR STARTED WITH A LITTLE HESITATION. I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AND HAVE HAD TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 6 TIMES.

ON MORE THAN A DOZEN OCCASIONS SINCE PURCHASE, THE VEHICLE HAS NEGLECTED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED NEARLY CAUSING ME TO BE HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE HAS SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED WHEN THE DRIVER WAS BARELY APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL; ALMOST CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE REAR ENDED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY TWO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS FOR THE ISSUES; OF WHICH THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE REPLICATED. BOTH DEALERSHIPS STATED THAT IT WAS NORMAL BEHAVIOR FOR THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO MAKE THE ISSUES GO AWAY.

MY CAR CAUGHT FIRE WHILE BEING TOWED BY MY MOTORHOME IN SOUTH MIAMI, FL ON ROUTE TO KEY WEST, FL. A SOUTH MIAMI, FL HYUNDAI DEALER REPAIRED MY CAR BUT DID NOT REPLACE ALL THE PARTS PAID FOR BY MY AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY. THE REPAIR SHOP DID NOT KEEP THE BURNED PARTS AS REQUESTED BY ME AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE. LATER, ANOTHER HYUNDAI DEALER COMPLETED THE REPAIRS AS AUTHORIZED BY HYUNDAI USA AFTER NUMEROUS COMMUNICATIONS WITH ME, BUT THE HYUNDAI DEALER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH THE BURNED PARTS AS REQUESTED. HYUNDAI DID NOT REPORT THAT A FIRE HAD CAUSED THE DAMAGE. NOT SURE IF HYUNDAI USA OR ITS DEALERS HAVE REQUIREMENTS TO REPORT FIRES IN THEIR VEHICLES. I HAVE NAMES OF CONTACTS WITH HYUNDAI USA IN CA. I HAVE THE BURNED TPMS SENSOR NOT REPLACED BY HYUNDAI, BUT PAID FOR AT MY EXPENSE TO A TIRE STORE IN MY HOME TOWN. I HAVE PICTURES OF MY CAR ON FIRE; PICTURES OF THE BURNED PARTS ON CAR IN POSSESSION OF MY INSURANCE COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE; I HAVE RECEIPTS FROM THE SOUTH MIAMI HYUNDAI REPAIRS, AND I HAVE RECEIPTS FROM THE OTHER HYUNDAI DEALER FOR PARTS NEEDING REPLACEMENT BUT NOT REPLACED BY THE SOUTH MIAMI HYUNDAI DEALER BUT PAID FOR BY MY AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY. ON JAN 26 MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE SLIPPERY. WHEN HE WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES, HE HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE BRAKE WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT COME BACK UP. LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED AROUND THE CORNER, BUT BY THE TIME THE CAR MADE IT INTO THE DRIVEWAY THE BRAKES WERE SMOKING. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE MECHANIC. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS, CALIPERS AND ROTORS. ALSO THE BRAKE SWITCH OEM HAD TO REPLACED. WHEN ALL SAID AND DONE THE TOTAL COST CAME TO 729.64. CAN I TELL YOU HOW DISAPPOINTED I AM IN THIS VEHICLE?? THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY A 2012 MY HIGH BEAMS DON'T WORK NOR DOES THE CRUISE CONTROL. I AM STARTING TO THINK THIS CAR IS A REAL LEMON!!! AT THIS POINT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS ANY RECALLS BECAUSE MY BILL WAS EXTREME AND SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED ON A 2012. I DO NOT HAVE THE VIN NUMBER ON ME AT THIS TIME. WHEN I APPLIED BREAK MY RPM IDLE GOES UP. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS SAFE I SHOW IN OTHER CAR RPM GOES DOWN. I TOOK TO DEALER GOT OIL CHANGE. AND I ASKED WHY THIS HAPPENS. HE TOLD ME TO CHACK ECO SYSTEM. I CHACK ECO SYSTEM IT WAS ON OFF POSTION. I ASK HIM WHEN I BOUGHT CAR I NEVER SHOW RPM GO UP WHEN I HATE BREAK. THERE NO ENGINE SING COMESUP ON DASHBOARD EITHER. THIS REALLY SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FAMILY. RPM SHOULD NOT GO UP WHEN U HATE BREAKS. IT'S SHOULD BRING RPM DOWN. RPM SHOULD GO UP WHEN U HATE GAS PADEL. I GET THIS. BUT WHEN I GO TO ANY SPEED. AND TRIED TO APPLIED BREAK IT SHOULD DROP RPM SHOULD NOT GO UP.
MY WIFE WAS PARKING CAR PULLING INTO SPACE AT APROX. 5MPH ,SHE APPLIED BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TOO THE FLOOR WITHOUT STOPPING, THE CONTINUED TO TRAVEL OVER CEMENT STOPPER ONTO MAIN THOROUGH FAIR, SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP BY THROWING CAR INTO PARK. SHE RESTARTED CAR AND BRAKES WERE OK..WE BROUGHT CAR TO DEALER , THEY KEPT CAR FOR ONE WEEK AND COULD NOT FIND NOTHING WRONG I SHOWED THEM 5 OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THEY SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE IF CAR NOT REPEAT PROBLEM. WHEN I WAS BRAKING, THE PASSENGER FRONT BRAKES MADE A HORRIBLE METAL ON METAL SOUND. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE BRAKES (TO FAR FROM A HYUNDAI DEALER). THE MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. THIS. HAS GONE ON FOR MONTHS. I HAD THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED EVEN THOUGH THE ORIGINAL PADS WERE STILL GOOD. I FINALLY TOOK MY CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER WHO EXPLAINED TO ME (THE ROTORS WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED) WHAT, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. NO, I HAD ALL ROTORS REPLACED AND NEW BRAKE PADS ALL THE WAY AROUND. GUESS WHAT, STILL MAKING THE SOUND IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND SLOWING TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS FAILED. I LOST THE POWER STEERING, BRAKING AND GAS. ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE CONSOLE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO ALLOW THE CAR TO COME TO A STOP ON ITS OWN - IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, OR IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN CROSSING THE ROAD, THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH, MUCH WORSE. ONCE THE CAR STOPPED, I PUT IT IN PARK AND THE LIGHTS STAYED ON. I TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN BACK ON AND IT TURNED RIGHT BACK ON AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS IN SERVICE FOR 5 DAYS, AND THEY CLAIM TO BE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE. SINCE THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE, AND LEMON LAW STATE THAT AN ISSUE MUST OCCUR 3 TIMES, I HAVE NO COURSE OF ACTION TO TAKE BESIDES BUYING A NEW CAR AND TAKING ON ADDED EXPENSE, OR DRIVING THIS CAR, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE SAFE FROM DEFECT AND HOPE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I WILL FILE A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI AS WELL. *TR

THERE ARE ACTUALLY 2 ISSUES GOING ON. FIRST OFF, I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN SEPTEMBER 2011 (TO REPLACE A GM LEMON) AND EVER SINCE I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE, IT HAS PULLED TO THE RIGHT. SECOND ISSUE, I LEFT WORK PULLING ONTO THE ROAD, DROVE A COUPLE OF BLOCKS WHEN TRAFFIC HAD STOPPED AT THE UPCOMING LIGHT; THEREFORE I HAD NOT COMPLETELY BUILT UP SPEED TO THE SPEED LIMIT (40) WHEN I HAD TO STOP. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND DID NOT COMPLETELY STOP BEFORE HITTING THE TOYOTA 4RUNNER IN FRONT OF ME, I FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING ON ICE. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES, THE CAR STARTED TO STOP BUT THE BRAKES KEPT GOING FURTHER DOWN TO THE FLOOR, WITH NO FEELING OF STOPPING. THE DEALERSHIP THAT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE INSURANCE COMPANY( GM) SAID THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES SO I TOOK IT TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER, WHO DID FIND THAT MY BRAKE LINES HAD AIR IN THEM. I DON'T KNOW HOW SINCE I HAD NEVER HAD THEM WORKED ON AND IT'S A SEALED SYSTEM. AFTER THE TECHNICIAN CALLED HYUNDAI, THEY ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER. WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED, I MENTIONED THAT THE CAR PULLED TO THE RIGHT SO THEY DID AN ALIGNMENT ON IT, SINCE IT WAS A FRONT END CRASH. THEY DID NOTICE THE PULLING BUT THE ALIGNMENT DID NOT HELP AND THOUGHT I MAY HAVE A BAD TIRE, BUT WITH 21,000 MILES, WOULD NOT REPLACE IT. I GET MY TIRES ROTATED FAITHFULLY AND HAVE ALREADY BEEN TOLD THEY ARE WEARING OUT. THIS IS THE FIRST FOREIGN CAR I'VE OWNED AND (AS PREV. NOTED) GOT IT TO REPLACE A GM LEMON, NOW I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR AND I HAVE TO USE IT TO TRAVEL ACROSS THE STATE. BETWEEN THE STEERING AND THE BRAKES, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. DID I GET ANOTHER LEMON? SINCE I CAN'T SEEM TO GET ANY SATISFACTION,I'M CONTACTING YOU, I'M TIRED OF CALLING THE HYUNDAI DEALER SINCE THEY SAY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. I DON'T WANT TO GET SATISFACTION, ONLY AFTER MY FAMILY IS WRITING MY OBITUARY. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
