The vehicle dashboard is severely cracked. It doesn’t appear to be from wear and tear.
Noticed there’s a crack on the passenger side dashboard of the car that’s about 12 inches long. From what I read this could cause issues with any possible airbag deployment.
No incident to report. Vehicle not regularly driven in about 5 years, other than to keep battery charged. But charge not hold. Have to charge battery again the next day. This is to reporting a crack in the passenger side dashboard where airbag is located.
This is the 2nd Hyundai I've owned, same year make and model. The first one was totaled due to the air bag deployment. The accident did not warrant the air bag deploying. I should have reported it at the time. I didn't realize that I could and now it's too late. The claim has already been submitted. Now, we have the same exact car and a crack has appeared on the passenger dash. My concern is the airbag. The crack just appeared from nowhere. I do not feel that we should have to pay for a replacement dash. Is this something that can be repaired by Hyundai, as it poses a risk to my 18 year old student driver. I started the car, put it into gear and then the breaks wouldn’t work. The car dash said something like check breaks hybrid system failure do not drive. There is not recall on my car but the Hyundai service department doesn’t know how to fix it. This is the second time it’s happened. I’m scared to drive it. Please investigate!
We received a recall letter for 198 and 251. We called and made the appointment for September 9, 2024. We took the car at Five Star Hyundai of Macon. 3010 Riverside DR. Macon, GA 31210. Phone: (478) 309-8308. We called in October to check on our vehicle status, so they are still working on it. We called back again because they didn't communicate well with customers and told us the car was ready. We went to the dealership to pick the car and when we got in the car to leave, without doing anything, the brake light came on and didn't move. We were never able to go because of this. The mechanic came and took the car and said let me check. He took the car for a short ride and said we need it to keep it. Then, they called tell us that the car needed a brake module and that would cost us 6700 dollars. I said that is unacceptable because the car worked fine when we took it to you for a free recall. They reduced the price to 3000 dollars and our car is still with them. We want our car fixed and running but this is not the way it should have to be. Our car is still in Macon at 5- star Hyundai. Few more days and we will 5 months without car. They never provide another vehicle. This has put us on a hardship because my husband goes to work early, then comeback and pick me up and take me to work then, he has to picked me up too. We have called the corporate office and have received a case number. The only communication that exists is between the corporate offices of Hyundai and us. The dealer will not return calls or texts. We haven't got any updates recently. They only thing we got told on Christmas time it was we must bring a check or a card to be able to pay. We have been paying insurance on that vehicle for what? If we haven't be able to drive. We are frustrated. We live about 95 miles away from the dealership and we can't check on our vehicle that easy. You don't know how much we regret this and how we really going to know if they are doing a good job or not.
Car went complete stall after a warning light came off “Hybrid System Warning - Check Brakes” I am completely braked, but when I slowly releasing the brake pedal, there’s was a loud grinding noice and the wheels wouldn’t go forward at all, so I have to step on the brake again . I got stuck IN THE MIDDLE of the road and couldn’t park on the right curb since the car randomly got stalled completely. It took almost 40mins for the warning issue to go away and the car went back to normal. However, IT’S COMPLETELY A SAFETY ISSUE for the car to randomly stall in the middle of driving! I could be driving to fast traffic on a freeway or wide street where accidents can occur since I couldn’t even drive it a bit to park on the curb. On top of this - I occasionally get “hybrid system warning” whenever I am in the middle of driving and I always have to pull over and wait at least half an hour for it to go away, it’s been happening for few years now, and tonight was the most dangerous one so far!!! Please make Hyundai do a recall on the hybrid battery diagnose or replacement
My brake lights are constantly needing replaced. Sometimes they stay on even when I'm not braking, other times they won't come on at all when I brake. I've gotten them replaced many times but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. I've almost gotten rear ended 3 times now bc my lights have failed to come on when hitting the brakes.
When driving (at any speed) car error message comes up that says "Hybryd system warning safely stop and do not drive" then when that light goes out a new warning comes up that says "check brake" at this time the car will slow itself down until the car stops completely - even if you have your foot all the way on the gas pedal. There's no pattern to when it happens, it can happen on any drive at any time. When this happens all I can do is turn the car off and wait to restart car to keep driving. The front brakes have replaced, the back brakes and rotors have been replaced and the brake pump was replaced but, the problem persists. Primarily this is a safety issue if I'm on the highway, or anywhere I can't really pull over. A perfect example of this is on 8/31/2024 my son received a warning citation for "Improper Stopping" the remarks on the citation say " was parked on side of roadway due to car not wanting to accelerate but, could not move outside of the roadway". Basically the car slowed down but, completely shut down in an area that wasn't safe to be parked or sitting. It's dangerous for me and any other driver on the road that's behind me or on either side of me. After researching online it seems this is a common issue that Hyundai has not figured out yet. Other consumers have spent thousands on repairs thru Hyundai and still have not resolved the issue. Please help me figure this out.

Vehicle’s dash panel just started cracking three years ago for no apparent reason. By the day the cracks continue. My concern is over time the cracks will become so bad the air bag will deploy prematurely causing injury. This is a known issue in Hyundai Sonata from 2011-2014. This is not due to extreme heat. This is a defect and should be addressed before someone gets seriously hurt.
I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid that has a problem with its ABS Module. It is overheating and causes my car to stop its brake and motor functions while driving. I contacted the dealership to get a rental or replacement in the meantime and they told me there is nothing they can do and to drive with caution. I called the manufacturer to get a rental for the meantime and they told me the same thing. I have looked on the recall documents and it says they should give me a vehicle in the meantime if it is unsafe to drive. Please, I don't even want the car at this point because of all the problems with it and with my dissatisfaction with customer service from any Hyundai business. But if I could just get a car that is safe to drive while I wait for the recall to have a remedy , I would take that.
Driving and vehicle caught on fire under hood of car
My car was stolen it is Hyundai sonata 2012 although anti software has been upgraded . It is been 10 days since then my car was not recovered.
The vehicle have shift control problem, it jerks hard when put into drive or reverse, also when going up a small hill it feels like the vehicle hangs in between changing from electric to gas. Also there is always a warning that comes on saying " Hybrid System Warning Safety Stop and Do not Drive". The car stops when driving, which makes it dangerous. Took it to two dealership in MCkinney and Irving and they could not fix the problem but rather charge me for diagnosis. All they say is buy new transmission. I called Hyundai for help and all they tell me is that there is no recall on 2012 hybrid model. Its frustrating because thats the only vehicle that i used for work. Need help. Thanks
i’ve been having issues with the brake lights being sometimey sometime it works and sometimes not, and almost been in accidents once too many times. i’ve also notice a lot of hyundais especially sonatas that’s on the road have the same issue. i’m at a loss in what to do with having to change light bulbs every month it acts up with both break lights. horn doesn’t work. it stopped months ago and fused changes and still no horn work. the other day while driving it brought someone was blowing at me so i turned down the radio and heard my very own horn blow on it’s own several times it does this off n on even at the light or while driving. i don’t have money to fix all these issues with this car. hopefully we can get a recall and get this fixed!
I was driving on a busy street when all of a sudden. My car reduce speed hesitated There was a pull over Safely and don't drive this vehicle warning Message Every light on the dash came on and shut off in the middle of a busy street. THANK GOD I DIDNT GET HIT Didn't get the chance to pull over the car just shut off. The whole car died I had to have it towed way I tried changing 12 V battery to a brand new one still didn't work. I've had it towed to hyundai dealer. What is wrong with this car? Still don't kno this happened in september of 2022 took it 2 different Hyundai dealerships. As I've been researching this is happening to a lot of people. With the same make a model car. I talk to corporate. They can't help me with anything because it's over a 150000 miles. You would think that they would help with some of the cause being the fact that is happening to all of the hybrid cars
After intermittent starting and car dying for no reason, the engine completely died while driving on highway. I filed a claim with Hyundai as part of Theta Engine settlement. I had the engine replaced at my expense, they will not cover. It is now burning oil at an alarming rate. This is dangerous and has happened to many many HYUNDAI/KIA owners as part of this engine problem.
My car started on fire while being stopped at a signal light
Dash board has been completely cracked. I’m scared the airbags are effected by it or will deploy unexpectedly there are other people with the same issue. There has been no damage or accidents with this vehicle
B pillar separated from the frame during collision causing catastrophic intrusion into the cabin upon impact leading to death of the driver. No other occupants in the vehicle. Multiple investigators noted the B pillar failure upon inspection. Independent, certified crash reconstruction expert also noticed immediately that the B pillar had failed which caused cabin intrusion to an extraordinary degree considering the 2 vehicles involved were going less than 40mph. Vehicle is available for inspection. In addition, edr data reveals that although throttle was engaged, rpm's remained at idle up to the time of impact. Driver pushing on the gas and vehicle not responding.

My "Hyundai system warning safely stop and don't drive". light went off with my brake light on also, we were driving on the freeway going around 60 mph I was I'm the middle lane causing me to have to hurry and pull over as Car came to complete stop.i went to brake check to see if the breaks needed to be replaced and after inspection they said everything was fine, brakes, rotors and brake fluid was fine it's been doing this more often now..
When driving at higher speeds 50+mph, hybrid battery warning flashes, alarm beeps, warning states to safely pull over and stop. Warning goes away after turning the car on and off a few times. Dealer states they can not duplicate problem and can not diagnose. Have visited Dealer twice now with she results
I was on the expressway and car hesitated and jerked while speed began to increase followed by hybrid warning system alert. (Pull over and stop the vehicle) with a flashing ready light. Could have caused a major accident with loss of life as there was no place to safely pull over. Warning lights came in immediately after the cat jerked.
After recall repairs at Hyundai dealer in Danbury CT during the past few years, the engine light remains on or comes back on the next time the car is driven. Never had issue before these recall repairs. The car has been returned countless times to dealer to correct repairs and never successful. After multiple incidents of losing engine power and having to pull off highway i retuned to dealer again where they claimed fuel tank and fuel pump needed replacement for nearly $3,000 but never said if this was related to the ongoing recall repair issues or the engine coming on. I had another garage smoke test system and confirm gas tank didn’t need replacement. Error codes are related to recall parts in Hyundai TSBs for recall and other issues. Hyundai dealer and corporate HQ level consumer affairs remain unable or unwillingly ensure repairs are done correctly. All I want is the vehicle to be safe for family use.
There were no warnings or indicators of a problem. My husband was driving down the highway when he noticed smoke coming from under the hood. He pulled over, but the car was already on fire. The fire department put out the fire, and the car is likely to be totaled by insurance. The car is currently available for inspection but will be taken into possession by insurance soon.
The car was running and just stopped working in the middle of the highway the warning lights came out and i couldn't be able to start the car since that day .
It all started with the electronic system. Both of my brake lights burned, leaving huge holes in the back of my brake light bracket. Replace the whole brake assembly on both brake light fixtures, then now my horn is not working—nothing to do with the relay or fuse.
As I was driving on the highway, my car engine stalled and all the interior dashboard lights came on. I was unable to accelerate although all other features of my car worked (steering, brakes, radio, bluetooth, etc...). I was barely able to get off the highway safely as the highway I was on had no shoulder that was safely accessible. Luckily, I was in the far right lane already which allowed me to exit the highway. I was just barely able to exit the highway and move to the middle and far right lane of the service road before my car came to a complete stop. I attempted to turn my car off and back on without success. At this point, I could start to smell burning of something and knew I needed to exit the car immediately, however, I was unable to do so due to traffic on the driver side of my car. I noticed smoke coming from my engine which prompted to me to jump out of the car without continuing to pay attention to the traffic that was passing me. I called 911 to alert them of my car impeding traffic, potentially causing another wreck, and the potential that my car may be on fire. After making those statements to dispatch, flames shot forward from my hood and I was able to move away from my car. The fire department arrived on scene but not before the flames had reached 12+ feet as they were taller than the fire truck. The firefighters were able to put out the flames. My car engine was completely melted from the fire. At this point, the dealership, insurance agent or any other representative has determined a cause of the fire or has looked at my car. No warning lights to indicate a malfunction was visible prior to the incident. No noises or engine malfunctions were noted prior to the incident.
Limp mode on the 16th of march, no symptoms prior to entering limp mode. Check engine light was illuminated and blinking & a knocking sound came from under the hood, along with not being able to get over 1800 rpms before having to shift. Drove back home until the next day on march 17th went to try to take it to a manufacturing company and did not make it. While in the middle of driving it had a loud bang under hood and left me on side the road. Could not crank it again.
I keep getting this error message Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do not Drive with the caution symbol. I have take it to the dealership 5 times and they do not see anything wrong. Usually the message flash for a few seconds and then go away. Today it did something different. The display keep alternating with Check charging system and Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do not Drive along with a beeping sound. I had to pull over and restart the car. I travel in rural areas for work, and I am so afraid my car is going to stop in the middle on nowhere. When I googled the error message it appears so many other Sonata owners from 2011-2014 are experiencing the same problem. I have reported this to Hyundai warranty, but when they contact the dealership, they tell them nothing is wrong with my car. Please advise of what to do.
About a year ago, my 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid had an error with an alarm that would pop up on the screen but was too fast to catch what it said. It would happen a couple of times a month. One day, I was driving about 60 mph and the alarm came on, the car stalled and it said to not drive the car. I was able to roll to a stop on the side of the road. I turned off the car and had it towed to my house. In looking at it, I turned it on and everything seemed fine. This happened another time about a month later. The second time, I just turned off the car, let it sit for a minute and turned it back on. I took it into a dealer and they said they couldn't figure it out and to bring it back if it kept happening. It hasn't had a problem since then until this morning. Here, nearly a year later, I was in the middle of a busy intersection and it gave the error and alarm and the car stalled. I turned it off, let it sit for a few seconds and then turned it back on and backed up. Fortunately, the cars coming at me noticed I couldn't move and stopped! I would pay to have this fixed if they knew what was going on! Everything I see online about this issue, no one knows what is causing it. I wouldn't feel comfortable selling it to someone else knowing this is such a safety issue. It's just a pile of metal at this point.
Loss of power, while trying to accelerate, troubleshot and it was caused by a worn brake stopper after replacing the brake stopper vehicle retained the loss of power and unable to drive past 37 mph. Possible ECM problem as vehicle is not throwing any DTC.
It began in 2020; the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid I've been driving started having issues with the hybrid system. At the time, the car was still under warranty. I took it in multiple times to AutoNation Hyundai in North Richland Hills, TX, because I kept getting the error message "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive", the car battery would become depleted, and the car would stop. My husband and I would take the vehicle multiple times to the service center at AutoNation Hyundai in North Richland Hills, TX, and nothing was done because, according to their staff, the error could not be duplicated. At one point, they kept it for almost a month, barely driven (we looked at the mileage on the car) before it was returned with no work done on the vehicle. Last June 2021, on a drive to Dallas to take my daughter to her volunteer program at the Dallas Zoo, the car stopped in the middle of the highway for the same problem. I called AutoNation Hyundai in North Richland Hills, and they could not see the vehicle in a timely manner and would not give me a loaner while they had the car in the shop. At that time, I wanted them to check the vehicle's issue and the recall issue that seemed like we were experiencing with the car; it was the only car I had to use to get to and from work and drive my daughter to her obligations, and they could not see it promptly and would not issue me a loaner vehicle. I ended up taking the car to Hiley Hyundai of Fort Worth; they supposedly found a faulty sensor and repaired it, checked it for a recall, and couldn't find the issue at that time. Last night, my car flashed the same error and lost all power. I was on I-35W North with my daughter at the time. I had the vehicle towed after hours to AutoNation Hyundai and called this morning to follow up. I spoke with someone at service, and they told me they could not look at the car until about mid-January and would not be able to give me a loaner in the interim. I tried to explain to the
This morning when i drove the car to Bart station, just before i parked in the parking lot. the showboard showed "Hybrid System Warning, Safely Stop and Do Not Drive". So i stopped and parked the car in the parking space. i'm not sure what the issue is and if i still can drive it after i came back from my work. After i checked the website and found there're a lot of people have this same issue as this case. I did not see any of them have solution for it. So I believed that this is a big issue since it will cuase death if it happens in the high speed high way. please do the investigation and recall for it to save lives! appreciated in advance.
I am a 74-year-old widowed, retired Federal Government worker. I purchased a 2012 Hyundai Sonata in October 2011. This was supposed to be my retirement car. I bought it new from Torrance Hyundai. This car has been a problem from day one. I have a lengthy list of problems. It has only 54,000 miles and will be 10 years old next year. Some of the problems are the gas meter does not work (I don't how much gas I have in my car. For a senior citizen that is not good. My windows button does not work, and my voice control and Bluetooth does not work (it was replaced once) I have a ticking when I turn my car. (Dealer said it would cost $2000. to fix. (it was fixed once) I have an oil leak that a Mechanic told me to take it back to the dealer, it should be covered. (It is not) My dashboard is cracked. (not cover). I have had two Hyundais. The hatchback (one of the first in the USA) and worked fine, and another Sonata in the '90s. I loved them both. Before my favorite was the Toyota, now since this car has all these problems and is paid off. I will never buy a Hyundai again. I looking to buy a small SUV and it will not be a Hyundai. I am ready to tell the media and everyone that would listen about this car and the problems I have had from day one. I have a list of service orders on some of these problems. I was once a loyal Hyundai owner, but now I cannot give my praise to this car or this company. I have a limited income and now I must go back into debt because of your piece of junk. Thank you for making my senior years enjoyable. I like to put this out to the media for all to know of how you treat your customers that have been loyal. I complained about this with Hyundai customer service and received a case number and told to make appointment for them to check the car. But, they didn't tell me it would cost $169.00. It is unsafe to drive cracks in your dashboard where the airbags are located and for a senior to worry about the amount of gas she has.
Bluetooth cuts out on vehicle and volume shuts off completely on stereo. Without the bluetooth and volume functioning on the vehicle, I no longer have handsfree capability. It endangers my safety (and others) and then becomes a legal violation for me to answer my phone while driving. I have taken it to a dealership and they have been able to reproduce the problem. The only solution they provided me was to replace the whole head unit for the exact same system that has this known bluetooth/volume issue. On forums that I've read it's stated that this is a software/firmware update that resolves this issue, but the dealership says they know nothing about it nor does Hyundai national. Other dealerships in the country have installed the software update to fix the issue.
While I was driving, an error stating "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do not Drive" popped up on my dash.
UNKNOWN: On July 14th, 2021, I was driving approx. 45mph on the Expressway when I felt the car losing a little power, I looked at the speedometer and noticed (no warning lights where on) the speed was going down slowly as I was attempting to accelerate, the car would not go past 20mph. Then all the sudden I lost all controls of the car (the car stalled) I was not able to steer or brake, the car had stalled in the middle of the parkway, it was a very dangerous situation, so many cars came within inches of hitting me. I was able to finally restart the car and get it to the side of the road and then it stalled again. This time when I attempted to restart the car I noticed there was smoke coming from under the hood and the would not start, at that point I called for help. The car was towed to my mechanic and he determined the engine was seized. (see attached pdf) Car is available for inspection.
Brake and tail light continues to burn out. I have replaced bulbs and entire assembly every couple weeks and t melts thei units as well as my engine stalls out and will not accelerate and does this intermittently. This puts me at risk of one of my lights catching fire or a crash due to my engine losing power on the freeway when I turn my lights on

This safety issue affects Hyundai Sonatas with a turbo. The vehicle loses acceleration. The engine will rev with the tachometer functioning properly, but the vehicle speed does not increase accordingly. This is a safety issue because drivers could cause accidents when merging into traffic, changing lanes, or clearing an intersection. This issue may be related to my engine being replaced by Hyundai as part of a recall since it happened within a week of receiving the new engine. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -- The problem is related to the wastegate actuator and/or sensor. The ECU/ECM seems to disable the turbo in the vehicle. Stopping and restarting the vehicle (rebooting) eliminates the problem until the vehicle is parked/off for at least nine (9) hours. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - See introduction above. When accelerating from a stop, the vehicle's acceleration stalls at about 20-23 MPH, even with the tachometer reaching 7,000 RPMs. While driving above 30 MPH, the vehicle is very slow to accelerate so merging onto any highways or changing lanes is a high-risk maneuver. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -- Yes. They first tried to replace the turbo boost sensor but that did not eliminate the problem. Hyundai Sonata owners have reported this problem since 2012. "Wastegate actuator sensor". Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -- Yes, the vehicle has been inspected by a manufacturer dealer service center. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -- No. The warning lamp does not activate on a regular basis with this issue. The warning lamp does appear approximately 10% of the time but again, rebooting the vehicle removes the warning lamp.
While driving on 285 @ 60 mph the car begins alarming with a hazard light indicating emergency braking system failure then the car looses complete braking capabilities and power to drive, all while I am in front of an 18 wheeler. I have practically no control over the stirring wheel as the car has completely lost all power all I could do is throw on my hazard lights and pray that the truck sees me then I begin to coast off to the side of the highway. In 2019 the engine seized up and did the exact same thing lost total power on the highway, the engine was replaced in 2019. In 2020 the transmission was causing problems and was replaced as well, this vehicle is a death trap and I truly fear for mines and my child’s life when driving it. I have never ever really feel safe in this car after my engine failure it left with in total paranoia with it loosing total power and leaving me without control to get out the way of on coming traffic thank goodness the trucker behind me noticed I was in distress and I was able to coast off to the side. I have googled and seen that there has been many others who have had this exact same problem with the braking system. Hyundai needs to recall these vehicles for this braking problems so no has to loose there lives behind it. Please please, please help me and the others that have these issues to get this matter resolved. Every since I have gotten this car it has had nothing but major issues in my eyes it should be deemed a lemon. Please advise
I was driving on the freeway and I put my foot on the gas to accelerate and my car would not go. It had no power. It is intermittent. I can be driving and it is fine then all of a sudden it won’t go more then 30 mph. My brake lights are always going out. Now my break lights won’t turn off.
THE PARKING AND BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF WHEN I TURN OFF MY CAR. THIS IS RESULTING IN THE BATTERY DYING CONSTANTLY AND I AM NOT ABLE TO LOCK OR SECURE MY CAR.

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN I HEARD AN EXTREMELY LOUD BOOM, IT SOUNDED LIKE A BOMB WENT OFF IN MY CAR. THEN I WAS SHOWERED WITH GLASS FROM ABOVE. I IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED ON MY BREAKS (FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A COUNTRY ROAD WITH NO ONE BEHIND ME). THE FRONT SEAT PORTION OF MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. I PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT, LOOKING FOR A BULLET AS I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD SHOT AT ME THEN FOR A ROCK OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY MY SUNROOF JUST EXPLODED GLASS ALL OVER ME. I FOUND NOTHING. I DROVE HOME CRYING AND SHAKING. MY BF TOLD ME TO GOOGLE WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO SEE IF THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PEOPLE. APPARENTLY IT HAS! I AM UNSURE WHY I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE CLASS-ACTION LAW SUIT, AS I BOUGHT MY CAR FROM A DEALER AND HAVE HAD IT FOR JUST OVER 6 YEARS NOW. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID I NEEDED THE FUEL INJECTORS CLEANED. SO I PAID TO HAVE THAT DONE AND THEN THE CAR STARTED EVERY TIME FOR ONE DAY. THE VERY NEXT DAY THE WOULDN'T START AGAIN IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER AN HOUR IT STARTED AND THEN THE NEXT DAY IT DID THE SAME THING AND MY DAUGHTER MISSED WORK. WHEN THE CAR DOESN'T START ALL THE LIGHTS AND RADIO COME ON BUT THE CAR JUST WONT START. EVERY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED THE CAR HAS BEEN STATIONARY. THE REMAINDER OF THE CLIMB OVER THE MOUNTAINS I WAS GOING 20-30 MPH (WHILE I'M AT 5000 RPM OR OVER).

THE VEHICLE IS DESIGNED SO THAT IF YOU LEAVE THE HEADLIGHTS ON, REMOVE THE KEYS, AND LOCK THE VEHICLE, THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF. IT STILL DOES THIS, BUT THE LIGHTS WILL TURN ON AGAIN LATER AND TRY TO KILL THE BATTERY.

THEN I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE SOMEONE HAD THROWN A BRICK OR SOMETHING. ONCE THE POLICE ARRIVED, THEY INFORMED ME THAT NOTHING HAD EXTERNALLY CAUSED THIS ISSUE. THE SUNROOF EXPLODED FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I AM TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT HYUNDAI SONATAS HAVE A LOT OF BRAKE ISSUES AND IT IS UNCOMMON FOR CALIPERS TO NEED REPLACING AT THIS STAGE.

1/23/2016 8:02 AM I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY WIFE WHO WAS DRIVING HER 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA ON THE I-95 IN SOUTH FLORIDA ON THE WAY TO WORK GOING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, WHEN SHE WENT TO ACCELERATE TO OVERTAKE A CAR DRIVING SLOWER. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WENT ON AND THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION POWER AND THE SPEED DROPPED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 40 MPH. WHEN THE SPEED REACHED 40 MPH, SHE COULD NOT ACCELERATE ANYMORE AND HENCE QUICKLY PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (UPON MY REQUEST). DUE TO THE HEAVY TRAFFIC, SHE WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY NOT TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I ARRIVED TO SWITCH CARS WITH HER, THE CAR STARTED FINE AND ACCELERATED APPROPRIATELY. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHO AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS CAME UP THE FOLLOWING: NO CODES STORED IN MEMORY AND NO SIGNS OF WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE CAR TO ACT LIKE THIS. THEY RECOMMENDED A THROTTLE BODY CLEANING WHICH IS CURRENTLY BEING COMPLETED (I AM WRITING THIS FROM DELRAY BEACH HYUNDAI). THEY STATED THE THROTTLE BODY STICKING MAY BE THE CAUSE, BUT WENT ON TO ADMIT THEY REALLY HAD NO IDEA AS DIAGNOSTICS GAVE THEM NO INFORMATION. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THE CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE AND THE FACT THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO COME UP WITH ANY CAUSE IS EVEN MORE OF A CONCERN.

THE VEHICLE HAS A HISTORY OF LOSING POWER COMPLETELY. AT THIS POINT I AM UNABLE TO ENTER THE CAR WITH THE KEYLESS ENTRY, YOU HAVE TO DO IT MANUALLY. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE STREET. ONCE YOU PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION THE HORN/ALARM GOES OFF AND DOESN'T STOP. IT ALSO SEEMS TO BE REVVING WHILE IT IS IN PARK. WHILE DRIVING I EXPERIENCE LITTLE POWER SURGES FROM THE CAR WHERE IT ACCELERATES WITH ME TRYING TO DO ANYTHING. THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER INSTANCE WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT START ONCE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. ONCE DISENGAGED THE CAR STARTED WITH A LITTLE HESITATION. I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AND HAVE HAD TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 6 TIMES.

EARLY THIS YEAR WHEN I STARTED MY 2012 SONATA IN THE MORNING FOR WORK IT STARTED TO STALL. IN MARCH WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR OIL CHANGE I NOTIFIED THEM OF THIS ISSUE. THEY SAID THE BATTERY NEEDED REPLACING. IT GOT BETTER AFTERWARDS UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO. I THOUGHT MAYBE THE KEYLESS REMOTE NEEDS NEW BATTERY AND SO SWITCHED TO THE SPARE REMOTE THAT I HAD BARELY USED. IT DID NOT HELP. BUT I NOTICED THE STALL HAPPENED IN THE MORNING WHEN I LEAVE FOR WORK, NOT IN THE AFTERNOON WHEN I GO HOME. MAYBE BECAUSE I HAVE TO USE THE REMOTE TO UNLOCK THE CAR IN THE AFTERNOON AND MAKE THE CAR CONNECT TO THE "KEY" RATHER THAN DISPLAY " KEY NOT DETECTED." THIS MORNING I COULD NOT GET THE CAR STARTED AFTER TRIED ALL MY TRICKS FOR NUMEROUS TIMES. I WAS STRANDED AND HAD TO USE MY VACATION FOR WORK. MADE AN APPOINTMENT LAST WEEK WITH THE DEALER FOR THIS TUESDAY. WONDER HOW I AM GOING TO HAUL THE CAR TO THE DEALER IF I CAN NOT GET IT STARTED.

I SAW THE RECALL NOTICE IN THE PAPER. CALL DEALER,HAD APPOINTMENT TODAY. WHEN ARRIVED TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM YET. THIS IS BULL I THINK HYUNDAI IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A CHEAP WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM KILL OR INJURED BEFORE THEY FIND THEIR CHEAP SOLUTION. THIS IS MY ONLY CAR AND BECAUSE OF MY HUSBAND RECENT DEATH, I CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE. PLEASE TRY TO EXPEDITE HYUNDAI TO FIX.

THE FRONT-END WILL WOBBLE AT CERTAIN SPEEDS, AROUND 25 & 45 MPH. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES NOW. FIRST, THEY FIXED THE ALIGNMENT. NEXT, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DETECT ANYTHING WRONG. THIRDLY, I DROVE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND HE IMMEDIATELY DETECTED A PROBLEM. HE HAD THE FRONT 2 TIRES REPLACED, WITH ALLEVIATED THE PROBLEM FOR A TIME, BUT WITHIN A COUPLE WEEKS, THE WOBBLE COULD BE FELT EASILY AGAIN, AT THE SAME SPEEDS AS BEFORE.

WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR IN REVERSE, IT TOOK OFF AT AN INCREDIBLE SPEED, DID A SEMI-CIRCLE, AND HIT ANOTHER CAR. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER WHO WAS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE EVENT OR CHECK OUT THE CAR. I PLAN ON CONTACTING HYUNDAI CORPORATE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THIS INFORMATION.

VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIT AND ALL DASH LIGHTS LIT UPON STARTING THE CAR. IT WOULD NOT LET ME SHIFT IT INTO ANY OTHER GEAR. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER FOR SEVERAL DAYS WITH THEM CONSULTING WITH HYUNDAI. THEY REPLACED SOME CONTROL MODULE TO REPAIR IT. -------------------------- TWO WEEKS LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. IDIOT LIGHTS WERE ON AFTER STARTING THE CAR,BUT I COULD NOT SHIFT IT OUT OF PARK. DEALERSHIP SWEARS ITS A DIFFERENT ISSUE AND THEY ARE CONSULTING HYUNDAI YET AGAIN. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR OVER A WEEK NOW AND THEY CAN'T TELL ME WHEN I'LL GET IT BACK. *TR
