My car has a severely cracked dashboard which could cause reduced structural integrity and an increased risk of debris and shrapnel being deployed in the event of an accident. The dashboard is a structural component designed to help absorb and distribute some of the forces in a collision. Cracks can compromise this ability to perform this function potentially increasing the force experienced by the occupants and the other parts of the vehicle. It can also cause increased risk of debris and shrapnel. During a collision the cracked dashboard may break apart more easily causing sharp or jagged pieces to become projectiles inside of the cabin these fragments can pose a serious injury risk to occupants. It can also result in impaired airbag deployment. Many vehicles have airbags in the dashboard a severely cracked dashboard could obstruct or improperly deploy airbags for example the airbag may not fully deploy reducing its effectiveness and the dashboard may puncture or otherwise interfere with the airbag as it inflates creating additional safety hazards. Cracks may expose sharp edges or materials under the dashboard which could harm occupants during a collision, especially in areas where passengers may come into contact with the dashboard. A cracked dashboard could also cause a compromised electrical system dashboards house numerous electrical systems, sensors, and controls cracks could indicate underlying damage to these components. In a collision, these systems may fail or behave unpredictably which could further reduce safety features. Cracked dashboards present a significant risk during a collision and should be addressed by the manufacturer promptly to ensure its customer safety.

Rear View camera stopped working about 6 weeks ago. Mechanic says need new camera which would cost about $500 labor and parts. Contacted dealer and Hyundai corporate to report and complain. Many other Hyundai vehicles have same problem with rear view camera but they are included in a recall campaign. Mine is not. Mechanic said the repair requires new camera and wireing harness. Hyundai case number is 41861577.

With no warning light indication the Sonata lost all power on I-75 South near Dayton Ohio. After tow & vehicle I inspiration the engine was said to be dead. There is a recall for the 2015 for the SAME issue.

There are 2 cracks on the dashboard directly over the passenger airbag that were there when I bought the car and there is another crack that happened some time between yesterday and today. The Crack is almost the width of the dashboard. If there is an accident I'm worried about get hit by pieces of plastic dashboard.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata 4 door sedan. I am unable to open the driver's left hand door to exit the car after turning off my vehicle. Only way I can open door to exit is to lower the window while motor still running, reach outside and grasp door handle from outside to open and Push/pull handle which doesn't allow me control over the door. Then I have to raise window with door standing open before I am able to turn off the ignition and exit my car. In Case of an emergency this is unsafe for driver and passengers. In this instance, I was trapped inside a hot car in Texas summer heat. In another instance, I could have had an accident and would have been unable to exit to safety. I searched for recall to this model which is covered for Hyundai Sonata manufactured in other years but my vehicle 2013 make is not included in same recall for exact same issue. There was no warning lamp, messages prior to failure. I have googled this "condition" and learned that this is a common problem for Hyundai Sonatas.

submitting a formal complaint to NHTSA regarding unresolved safety defects in my 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. Despite Safety Recall 251 issued in December 2023 for an ABS fire hazard, my vehicle continues to experience sudden loss of acceleration, engine shutdowns, and persistent dashboard warnings. Failed Recall Repairs & Lack of Transparency Since receiving the recall notice, my vehicle has been serviced multiple times at Thompson Hyundai in Dundalk, MD, yet the defects persist. When I requested service records to verify recall repairs, I was told that Thompson Hyundai’s acquisition by Heritage prevents them from providing full documentation—only three edited records missing key details. This raises concerns about: 1.Whether recall repairs are actually resolving safety defects. 2.Hyundai’s failure to maintain proper repair documentation. 3.The risk that other Hyundai vehicles remain unsafe due to incomplete recall fixes. Life-Threatening Breakdowns & Financial Hardship Since Hyundai’s supposed “fix,” my vehicle has broken down at least eight times, including major highways and intersections. On [XXX], on [XXX], my car suddenly lost power in heavy traffic, nearly causing a multi-vehicle accident. As a result: •I lost my job due to missed work from repeated breakdowns. •I suffered severe emotional distress, including PTSD-like symptoms and asthma attacks requiring medical attention. •I am facing financial instability from lost income and costly rental vehicles. Request for NHTSA Investigation Given Hyundai’s failure to resolve these defects, I urge NHTSA to: 1.Investigate whether Hyundai’s recall repairs fully resolve the defect. 2.Review dealerships’ recall documentation practices. 3.Determine if further regulatory action is needed to protect consumers. I am pursuing direct resolution with Hyundai but am bringing this to NHTSA in the interest of public safety. I appreciate your review and look forward to your response. While driving the vehicle under normal conditions, the vehicle lost power. Eps, and oil lights came on engine completely shut off. I changed belt, alternator and starter. It rolled over 3 times and seized. There doesnt appear to be a rod slung, or cracks in the block, but ive spent almost 2000 dollars trying to get it running and have another 1300 in parts waiting to rebuild the motor.I know there is a recall on the motors, but never received mail or any attempt at engine replacement.

The back doors will no longer open when unlocked. This poses a safety risk. I was unable to get my child out of his car seat when the locks or locking mechanism went out. I had to climb into the back seat from the front. The door do not open either from the interior or exterior of the vehicle. A mechanic stated that this could be from faulty solenoids. I was unable to get a print out of a quote at the time of writing this

The driver’s door and back door stopped opening inside and out. The back door on the driver’s side stopped opening first about 2 years ago, then the driver’s door stopped opening a few days ago. I am fearful of being trapped inside the car in the event of an emergency.

The dashboard is cracking I have been online and I've seen other Hyundai owners experiencing the same thing. Multiple concerns 1. cracks in the dashboard effecting defroster for windshield and not being to see already having issues 2. airbags no deploying correctly for driver or passenger in the front seats. 3. I've owned several cars, including two (2) KIA's and NEVER had this happen (1989 Ford, Festiva aka KIA in other parts of the world, and a 2000 Kia Sephia, both vehicles had over 200k in mileage and dashboard NEVER cracked the split like this.

On 04/19/24 I was driving my car like I normally do. There was no indication of a problem whatsoever. No lights were on, no malfunctioning, no nothing. Suddenly an alarm sounded while I was travelling about 60 mph in normal, dry weather conditions. The digital dashboard said "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive" and suddenly every single light on the dashboard lit in sync with each other. I pulled my car over on the side of the road and thought maybe I could reboot it. Nothing worked so I had to have the car towed to my house because the service center was closed. I performed research to learn that my car was on the recall list and needed to be serviced. I spoke to the dealership on 04/20/24 and told them it was a recall and needed service. A man asked me to have it towed there on 04/22/24 and that was the last time I have seen my car as of today 05/26/24! I have been calling to very kindly get some kind of status on the repair and when my car will be available for pickup. Every time I call they tell me they will give me my car back "tomorrow," but tomorrow never comes. I have reached out to Hyundai to ask them for reimbursement of my expenses and to be compensated for such an inconvenience and they are telling me they have a limit on reimbursements that only covers a certain amount of the expense I have had to pay for ride sharing. I would like to be compensated for the hardships this has caused me, the pain and suffering, work stoppage, and reduced quality of life since I do not have the car I paid cash for. The time I have had to wait for the repairs is beyond unreasonable and should result in compensation.

For over a year had to replace right brake light 3 times. Got an extended warranty letter, took to dealership they checked and ordered part needed,its on national backorder. Now my left brake light went out. So now I have no taillights,brake lights or turn signals. It is due to wire melting. I have almost been rear-ended numerous times now. No other transportation so I'm in need of this being taken care of asap.

ABS speed Sensor failure - my speedometer to cease registering in rare situations. If the ABS isn't working correctly, the brakes still work but the wheels may lock up and you'll slide in a straight line. The delarship was not able to reproduce cuz you have to speed up to 45 miles to be able to reproduce the issue. (brought it in couple times) Not inspected by manufacture cuz it would cause me $600 to diagnose the issue at dealer ship. I would get a beeping noise and a light would come up. Once I let go the gas pedal the car go back to normal.

When I returned to my car on [XXX] after shopping I noticed that a crack had suddenly appeared in the passenger side of the dashboard above where the passenger side airbag is located. When I searched the internet to find repair options I discovered that Hyundai issued a recall in 2020 for 2011-2014 due to dashboard cracking and that the recall affected over 580,000 vehicles. I have searched the NHTSA website, but my vehicle is not included in this recall. I am contacting you to make you aware that there are other vehicles with the same problem that have not been included in the original recall. I am completing this form because the vehicle lacked the proper equipment to prevent theft which resulted in a wreck and the vehicle being totaled. -The Ignition was affected as it was stolen and the steering column was peeled. My dash board has deep cracks that go all the way through dash board. A lady I work with has exact make and model as me and has same issue. Open research this seems to be a wide spread problem with these specific models and can cause electrical and air bag issues.

When activating gas pedal, there is a rattling and grinding when in motion and then it subsides. When stopped at light or intersection, when giving gas again, the rattling and grinding resumes. Car seemed to be running a little louder than it's ever been since purchasing a few years ago. At no time has there been any dashboard lights or warnings prompting any problems with engine, low oil or anything else which is what the dealer service center is now telling me is an issue with engine needing to be replaced. Current issues have not been occuring very long which causes me to give the service center a call for an appointment in the first place. Vehicle was dropped off a week ago today, Friday, 9/22/2023, waiting for parts. Currently no work has been done to my vehicle and is sitting on the service center's lot. Was told it will take quite a while to get parts. I've had a rental since Monday of this week and I'm scheduled to return it this evening. Rental is and was expensive and I don't have a spare vehicle to get back and forth to work. Service center hasn't offered a loaner vehicle or suggested a rental company that will provide reasonable rates and collaboration with them. I just want my vehicle fixed and not have to repair cost that would be equal to me just getting another vehicle which is what the quoted cost to repair my vehicle is equivalent to.

This vehicle consumes/burns oil at an alarming rate (1-2 quarts each month). I have taken it to both an independent mechanic and Hyundai, and nothing has been found to be failed. However, this is common enough with Sonatas that I was told that this is "common with Sonatas". This has been going on for well over a year. My concern is if/when the engine locks up while driving.

This incident singled happen in a 20 or so miles on my way home commute, no freeway drive. I was driving pulling out of a parking street when I notice the vehicle tendency to pull me forward, even though I was preparing to stop. It continue to have this issue at a stop sign and traffic light. at first it was mild pull as if you are being towed. Sporadic pushing forward, but when I turned to the left I notice that the engine pick up speed on its own and the issue was exacerbated on turns to left and right. The issue continue to the point I stayed at a safety distance from other cars and the pull began to be more aggressive. I was driving slow at that point. With hazards lights on. On arrival to my home driveway and upon putting the car on park the engine RMP jump so high that scared me! The car sounded as if it would take off by its self. I had the foot on my brake and did not pump at that point. I took car to the dealership the next day and it continue to pull at sporadic times I drove slow and cautiously . Noticing that the pull got worse driving on a straight street versus the day before only on turns having more aggressive forward acceleration pulls. The dealer has check the car and has not been able to detect the problem with computer codes and apparently have not been able to reproduce the issue after driving the car. The mechanic, told me to take pictures of engine light if when I drive it has issues, and the light comes up. But not other solution was given.

The active hydraulic booster(AHB) failed while I was driving. While driving 70 mph down the highway the car began to beep and immediately the breaks began to lock up and brake pedal went all the way to the floor. All I could hear was grinding and it was hard to stop. A car came close to hitting me because the deceleration was so abrupt. I towed it to hyundai dealership and they confirmed the issue is the AHB. After further research, I learn that this happens more often then expect on this vehicle and at first was very hard to diagnose.

While driving the car when slowing for a stop, or just closing down in traffic the car/engine at times will jerk and lurch while braking. If I am not a safe distance from a car in front of me I could cause and accident and hit a car, so I try to keep a good distance when in traffic and refuse to drive the car on long distances on the highway. I can't predict when it will happen and when it does the slippery when wet signal comes on even though it is not wet or slippery condiitons. I don't trust the car while driving, and have no faith in it's safety. I haven't scheduled an appointment for repair because the last time I did they kept the car for over 20 days due to what they said was a system, sensor failure and charges me $3100,when I got the car back I noticed liquid leaking from the car and then the above started happening. The car is available for inspection on request. Car has not been inspected yet, not sure if I can reproduce every time. But it happen almost every day I drive the car to work within 20 miles of my home. The dealership the last time would not give me a loaner car and I need the car to travel back and forth to work since I live in a place without access to public transportation.

I purchased the car used on 12/2/2022. Drove on local roads until 12/28/2022 then took the car on the high way for the first time, whiel driving 60 mph for approximately 5 minutes and warning siren came on and flashing dashboard that said to stop driving immediately, and pull to the side of the road if possible an electrical failure or battery failure and not power to battery or elctrical system. I pulled to the side fo the road, and got towed by AAA to Key Hyundai in Milford, CT. They kept the car for over 22days, and charged me $3148. Number 3 on the repair documet is Steering concern:ABS and traction control light DTC- it said it was a steering angle sensor circuit and they put a flexible coupling and removed and replaced sterring cupler and calibrated sterring angle sensor and reflash check. The car is leaking some type of fluid and still lurching which can cause an accident.

First off there was no lights on other than the low tire pressure symbol that shows up, so I decided to go have my tire replaced, got it done, I drove off after having a tire replaced and within a minute or 2 of being back on the road my car just shuts off. I pulls over to see or access the car, don’t know what happened. I ended up having to have the car towed home.

hyundai sonata 2013 acceleration stopped working while on freeway. Lagging Noise when pressing on gas to accelerate. Noticed engine light flashing. Red oil light was on as well as EPS light on . Got off freeway to off ramp in turn lane. Luckily stopped by itself. brakes stopped working couldn't press down and not able to use gas. Car was still on only thing I could do was turn steering wheel. After 10 min was able to turn off car and turn back on with only engine light on and could move off the off ramp to chevron gas station. Later I was able to follow my husband to our home with car. Engine was still on and flashing .

My wife was driving as normal, suddenly got an alert! Loud noise, Hybrid System Warning, Safely Stop and Do Not Drive! Stranded in the middle of nowhere with this issue! ????? Towed it to my house. Next day, car works fine. But we are completely scared to drive it now! Took to dealership and they said $3,000 for the part and labor. Are you f’ing serious!? This is not. Wear and tear issue. The hybrid system should abruptly stop and make it so I cannot drive the car! For no apparent reason!? This is completely bullshit! I’ve seen online many complaints that it’s happened after 5,000 miles. Who cares that my car is 9 years old and has 92,000 miles. ???

The trunk will not open with fob, key, release button, or even from inside the trunk glow in the dark emergency release. Nothing will open the trunk. I now can't access spare tire. If someone were to be kidnapped and stuffed in trunk through back seat, they couldn't escape. There are no warning lights or other indicators that something is wrong. There are numerous complaints online about this.

I was driving down the street and the all the dashboard lights came on and suddenly the car died. My safety was put at risk because it was near the entrance of the highway on ramp. The car was towed to a local shop where they performed diagnostic testing. Upon further inspection, the shop replaced the starter. However, car will not turn on. Shop stated engine had had failed. The shop stated the car needs to be towed to a Hyundai dealership due to recalls of other Hyundai vehicles. My car is not included in the recall campaign. Prior to the car stopping, there were no warning lights or engine problems prior.

I have been having this problem with the car since May 2022. I was driving normally and the car gave the warning: Hybrid System stop and do not drive - check brakes, well I took the car to the mechanic near where I live zip code 90017 (Pep Boys) I have the note of the service that was done the first was on 11 June/22 and the brakes were changed since I thought this would be the problem and more fluid. The problem continued even with new brakes. I went there again and they check the brake system and they said everything looks fine on 20 June/22. So, I decided to scheduled an inspection at Hyundai in Van Nuys zip code 91404 (29 July/22) and I reported my problem that I was having with warnings check brake all the time while I’m driving every day, but I don't have another car and I need to go to work. Hyundai also couldn't solve the problem of warnings check brakes and I still having this problem, I get the free way every day to go to work and I'm scared because I never know when a warning will appear and the car practically stops in the middle of the free way ( it happened every day) which is making me feel very insecure with this car because it is dangerous but I’m tired of this car and this problem I can’t even go to super market without stop the car because of the warning check brakes.. I will include the photos of the recipes of the services that were made. I would really like to be able to solve this problem and feel safe to drive the car. Thank you.

While driving the car on the highway in heavy traffic with my family, the vehicle suddenly shuts off (turned off), then a warning light appeared, '"HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE'. Started it up again and now could only drive the vehicle at 5-10mph through heavy traffic. The vehicle would go no more than 10mph. We were in a dangerous situation as cars were driving at 40-60mph passing us. We drove all the way home 10 miles away at 5-10mph. After reading forums on this issue there were more posts regarding this same issue. Right now our vehicle is at the tonyhyundai at Waipio Gentry, Hawaii to be fixed. It has been there since August 1, 2022.

My 2013 hyundai sonata was apart of the original fuel leak recall about a year ago. I went to my local hyundai dealership and to my knowledge they "fixed" the issue. Now there is another recall with "no remedy" as of yet. My car definitely has a leak as my entire cabin smells of gas, really bad to the point of headaches and getting nauseous. If you're sitting next to my vehicle you can also smell the gas leaking. This is so dangerous for my child & I and everyone my car is near as this could catch on fire! I took my vehicle to a local repair place to fix the issue and inspect my car and thats when I was made aware that this is infact a leaking hose & is apart of the new recall. The repair place would not fix it and told me to take it to hyundai, they also failed my inspection. I contacted hyundai in limerick pa and they said there is no solution or fix for it but then they said they would repair it but not under warranty and I would need to pay a couple hundred dollars to repair it which I cannot and should not have to do. Meanwhile my car is still not inspected due to this and is not legal for the road. The gas smell has been going on for 9 days, I have many witnesses including the repair shop. They kept all of it on file should I need to pursue legal help.

While traveling on interstate, while untouched and with shade closed, sunroof made a loud explosion noise and shattered. The temperature yesterday was in the 80s in south Mississippi. This is a safety hazard as it is optional to drive with the sunroof shade open or closed. It just so happened that I had the shade closed during my drive yesterday. Should I have had my shade opened, there would have been shattered glass flying throughout the vehicle while the car was moving at 70+ mph. I also have a car seat in the rear which I am grateful no glass got into. There were no warning signs that this was going to happen, there were no flying objects. The traffic was actually very light with the nearest car being +200 feet away. I contacted Hyundai and my insurance regarding the incident. The insurance USAA offered repairs through a 3rd party with $500 comprehensive deductible. Hyundai inspected, confirmed incident occurred due to heat, and referred to glass shop with no repair solutions due to car being out of warranty. No rental or loaner car offered from either company. Another safety hazard here as it has rained nearly every day this summer, and the car is now at risk for being accessed by wanderers. Technician at Hyundai dealership did offer to cover sunroof with tape which I accepted. Incident occurred on 8.5.2022 at approximately 9:45 am in Gulfport, MS

I was driving one afternoon on my way from the nail shop with my sister my boyfriend & his friend when my call stalled in the middle in the street after managing to get the car out of the street it burst into flames. Due to not having the funds to move it it was towed. It did not have any lights on the dashboard which is why this was very weird for me. After not knowing what caused this stalling or fire I received a recall for my car in the mail.

Trunk latch was defective. I could not get into my trunk. the dealer replaced the trunk latch and handel assy. trunk light was also effected. If I had a flat tire I would have been in trouble. WE were out of town and our clothes were stuck in the trunk. the incident was 7/12/2022. I went to the dealer 7/15. It was a very expensive repair.

I have reported several times to hyundai that the dashboard has several cracks on the area of the airbag on the passenger side and driver side. I was instructed to take it to dealer which I did and I was informed that it is considered a cosmetic issue. I do not have a custom made dashboard and my concern is that those cracks will be continue to get bigger to the point it will cause the airbag to deploy at any time.

The car is experiencing major functioning issues including the theta engine class action lawsuits with engine failure and abnormally high oil usage. It has been stranded for weeks and left my children and myself in danger . Hyundai of Auburn refused to diagnose or allow it to sit on the dealership lot until May 2022. I'm stranded without assess to my children, mail or safety resources that have put my family and myself at great risk if either of us need emergency assistance.

engine seized up after 2 weeks of having an oil change...stopped on highway had it towed several times from breakdowns on highway to shop they put in new battery it ran for one day and would not start had it towed to another shop was advised the engine seized up due to gunk in oil pan..had an oil change two weeks prior to incident of vehical stopping was advised the oil change was fine no problems.....contacted hyundia consumer affairs filed a complaint advised them of the situation they had me tow the car to the hyundia dealership they looked at the car told me the engine was seized due to gunk in the oil. i sent them proff of all my oil changes and maintence records.. they denied the claim said i had not enough maintence records i have only had the vehical for three years have had no problembs with the vehicle untill it hit 99.000 miles...the dealership offered to repair the engine for $7500.. i could not pay. so i had to return the vehical to finance company as i still owed a balance now i am without a vehical and in debt to the finance company. for a vehical that had been on recall..can you assist me with this situation.. I believe they should should have accepted the fault of the engine seizing due to recalled parts.....

Ref: NHTA Recall Number: 20V-746 Hyundai REcall Number:198 (2nd recall fix ) After the above recall fix we had informed the Hyundai about engine heating up, we were told this is false alarm and car has monitoring system recall issue, Recall would would be mailed. I have all the dealer bill to prove the engine was heating up, they replaced certain part at our expense ( bill attached ) After above recall Fix by Hyundai Dealer in San Leandro, CA. we had engine overheating and car started engine started vibrating & I could see smoke from the exhaust. it ceased in the middle of the highway. Please note: Our Car has been services by Hyundai dealer. Note: if you look at the second safety recall notice, It does state in safety notice about engine compartments fire while driving for many reason and depending on the severity of the fire. the identification of the cause can be untraceable.. Above incidence happened just after your dealer did 2nd recall fix. IMO - It proves that recall fix was faulty and overheating engine cause the engine blew-up. Car has been with the dealership repair for 3rd recall. since a month Hyundai dealer asking us $9K to fix the car. I have reported the incidence to Hyundai Corporate under the case # 18811202. They are not responding. Dealer did contact Hyundai Corporate to get the engine change request, either the request if denied or gone unanswered.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering coupler was faulty and had also caused damage to the front passenger’s and driver’s side tie rods. The car stopped running and started smoking. Took it to Langdale Hyundai in Valdosta, GA and they said it was a rod bearing and there was a recall on it. They then told us after over a month and a half of them having the car that it was declined due to the engine not being updated since 2018??? I've never once heard of updating an engine. But I also thought the recall took place before that time frame so I don't see why that matters.

The night before, a light came on as I got home and when I looked it up it said "not urgent, but take to a dealer to have it inspected." I parked it. The next morning, before I even got out of the driveway, a BIG warning light came on saying "PULL OVER AND PARK CAR. HAVE IT LOOKED IT BY A DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE." I pulled back to the house and turned it off. It would never start again. I had it towed to the dealership, who have tried several parts and so far nothing has worked. They do not know how to fix it. It is at Grayson Hyundai in Knoxville, TN. There were no other warning signs, messages, or symptoms prior to it dying. The whole hybrid system or electric battery component system failed. Since it just died without warning, it would have been extremely dangerous if I had been on a public road instead of my driveway, with no where to go and no recourse.

I purchased a used 2013 Hyundai Sonata and in less than a month it was stolen! The police told me that Hyundai has a huge problem with vehicle theft because the manufacturer has built in design flaws that make it the easiest car in the world to steal. The thieves did not even have to break my window even though they were completely up and the car was locked! From what I see on the internet, Hyundai has never addressed the problem and should have voluntarily recalled the vehicles and fixed them! Why has this been allowed to happen when both the federal/state governments and NTSB are aware of such a gigantic problem that is causing extreme financial burden to Hyundai owners?

The Engine Seized and went into limp mode. This happens on June 2 2021. It effected the turbocharger and the Engine tube fuel line. It is covered under the recall. It is currently at Spradly Hyundai in Pueblo Colorado. I have been waiting for 3 months to have it fixed and they had no loaner so I have had to pay for a rental before I got the rental I lost my job because I didn't have a way to get to work. I have spent almost 4,000 in rental which come to find out they only will pay upto 40.00 a day on a rental which there is no rental company that you can get a rental less then 92.00 a day. I have loss so much income and money because of this recall. I had just bought the car 5 weeks before this happened and I have not even been able to make my first car payment. While driving down the street my engine begins smoking and everything shuts off. I was scared and uncertain of what was happening. I had to dodge cars to get off the road. I have supplied more than 15 pages of maintenance records, Which has proven I have taken care of my car. The engine has locked. The first representative stated Hyundai Corporate will pay for repairs - a new engine. The second representative stated only if I had a warranty will they assist me. I believe I'm getting the run around.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2013 - computer giving message " Check Charging System " while on the highway speed drops to 40 mpg. I had to stop the car on the roadside .. Hyundai dealer are not helpful. You go to them they just want to charge us $400 for diagnostic test. last week, Hyundai dealer told my car problem is with engine belt and tensioner assembly and I charged $900. but it did not fix the issue. The 1st thing that happened was the inside dashboard lights would flicker from nighttime mode to daytime mode. Took it to dealership and they could not get it to replicate. Now when it happens the headlights turn off. It happens a lot more often and seems to be something to do with the column.

Tail lights and brake lights constantly burn out. I've had to replace them multiple times a year. They bulbs get too hot that they melt into wiring harness which can be a fire hazard. I've had to replace the entire tail light because of this issues. I've heard and noticed this problem with a lot of Hyundai's. On the road I notice almost every other Hyundai similar to mine has at least one tail light or brake light out. My car was bought from Hyundai and had the original manufactures bulbs already installed, so this is not an aftermarket issue. I've read on multiple auto complaint blogs about this exact issue. I've been pulled over for the brake light being out which I wasn't even aware of until the officer told me. These bulbs have to be replaced at least 3 times a year. It's a safety hazard as well as a fire hazard. Every auto shop ive been to knows of this issues with Hyundai. I'm afraid to put anything flammable in my truck due to fear of it catching on fire. I spoke to Hyundai and they said that they are unaware of any issues or problems with my model and yet I continue to see mine and other vehicles with missing lights. Hopefully you guys can do something.

Brake lights on the vehicle remain on and illuminated at all times. The brake lights are on while driving and pedal is not pressed as well as after vehicle is turned off and no one is in the vehicle. I checked the parking brake and it is not on either. I am concerned this will cause issues or accidents for people traveling behind me. Also do not know if this effects the battery in my vehicle. I checked and there was a recall for this very issue on a previous year Sonata and am wondering if it is now an issue for my year model as well.

I WAS DRIVING WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I MADE THE APPOINTMENT IMMEDIATELY AND BROUGHT IT IN 6/03/2020 TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP.

WHEN PRESSING THE SCREEN TO SELECT A DIFFERENT MODE FOR MUSIC, SCREEN WENT COMPLETELY BLACK WHILE NAVIGATING (CAR IN MOTION) AND WAS NO LONGER OPERABLE. THE REAR VIEW CAMERA HAS FAILED AS WELL AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT IN REVERSE, THERE IS MERELY A BLUE SCREEN AND NO VISUAL OF THE REAR. I HAD AN ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAY ON THE SCREEN ON 15 JULY 20, BUT I AM UNCERTAIN IF THIS IS RELATABLE.

THE EPISODES WERE ONLY HAPPENING AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR. NOW, AT 92K MILES THE STUTTERING HAS INCREASED IN FREQUENCY AND TODAY I RECEIVED A "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING! SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE" MESSAGE WITH AUDIBLE WARNING CHIMES AND A "WRENCH" ICON ILLUMINATED. THIS TRIP WAS ONLY A TEN MILE TRIP, IN THE MORNING, OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 65F. THE CAR HADN'T BEEN DRIVEN AT ALL THIS DAY PRIOR TO THIS EVENT. THE WARNINGS HAPPENED TWICE, LESS THAN ONE MILE TO MY HOME, AND I BARELY MADE IT TO MY DRIVEWAY, WHERE IT'S NOW PARKED.

MY FRONT AND PASSENGER DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS HAVE HAD THE LOCKING MECHANISM/ACTUATOR CABLES DETACH AND BREAK. REQUIRING ME TO HAVE A MECHANIC FORCEFULLY OPEN THE DOORS AND THEN REPLACE THE INTERNAL LOCKING ASSEMBLY AND CABLES AT A COST OF OVER $800 PER DOOR. ONE DOOR CABLE BROKE IN THE SUMMER OF 2019 AND THE SECOND DOOR, THE DRIVERS DOOR, JUST BROKE THIS FRIDAY 2/21/2020. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND IS KNOWN TO HAPPEN IN THIS VEHICLE AFTER WARRANTY IS OUT. IF THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT SOMEONE KNOWING THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO OPEN THEIR DOOR. SAME ISSUE OCCURRED ALONG WITH CAR NOT STARTING ON 5/28 AND BROUGHT CAR TO DEALER ON 5/29/19. DEALER COULD NOT REPEAT ISSUE BUT REPLACED BATTERIES IN BOTH KEY FOBS. DROVE CAR TO CT (FROM NC) ON 7/12/19. CAR WAS FINE EXCEPT THE A/C WAS NOT COOLING WELL. TURNED CAR OFF & LET SIT FOR 10 MINS. IT WAS BETTER. ON 7/18/19 MY 17 YO WAS IN MOTION ON BUSY INTERSTATE 91 SOUTH IN CT. CAR DECELERATED & ALARMS RANG OUT. A WARNING ADVISED "HYBRID BATTERY FAILURE" & "SAFELY PULL OVER". SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE SIDE. HIGHWAY SAFETY PATROL CAME & ADVISED HER TO START CAR AGAIN. LIGHTS CAME ON BUT ENGINE WOULD NOT. HAD CAR TOWED TO LIA HYUNDAI IN ENFIELD, CT. CALLED 7/19, LEFT MESSAGE RTC. I ASKED FOR MANAGER WHO ADVISED THE SAME & SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. I CALLED HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA & GOT A TICKET NUMBER. WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WAS THE BATTERY THEY "MAY BE WILLING TO PAY AND MAY BE WILLING TO TOW CAR BACK TO NC ONCE COMPLETED" AGAIN IF APPROVED. NEED TECH TO SUBMIT A WORK ORDER REQ AND SPECIAL TOW REQUEST IF PRIOR AUTHORIZATION WAS APPROVED. ON 7/22 A DIAGNOSTIC WAS RAN & SENT TO HMA SHOWING HYBRID BATTERY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED HMA & WAS GIVEN A NATIONAL TEAM TICKET. SERVICE MANAGER RICH CALLED ON 7/29 ADVISING HYUNDAI IS REQUIRING MORE TESTS & WANTS PICTURES. HE CALLED BACK TO ADVISE THAT HYUNDAI IS NOW TELLING HIM TO JUST REPLACE THE SAFETY PLUG & RELAY SWITCH. ADVISED HYUNDAI WOULD PAY 60% AND WE WOULD NEED TO PAY 40%. COST WAS $1000 BUT PART NEEDED TO BE ORDERED. CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL WORK. I SPOKE TO NICOLETTE ON 7/29. WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ONLY PAY THE 60% AS A GOOD WILL GESTURE. ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND I HAD TO DRIFT TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF A HEAVILY TRAVELED HIGHWAY. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES TO TRY TO START THE CAR. IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I CALLED AAA AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO PATERSON HYUNDAI. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE GUY THIS MORNING AND HE SAID THE WOULD TRY TO GET IT INTO THE SHOP TODAY. HE ALSO SAID HE WOULD CHECK FOR RECALLS ON THE CAR. WE HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM AT ALL TODAY. I CHECKED THE RECALLS AND FOUND ONE ISSUED FOR MOTOR PROBLEMS ON MY VIN NUMBER. I DROVE MY CAR TO WORK AND AFTER I PARKED, I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE MY KEY FROM THE IGNITION.SINCE THE KEY WAS UNABLE TO BE REMOVED, THE CARE WAS ON ACC, WHICH MEANS, YOU WOULD NEED TO LEAVE YOUR CAR RUNNING, IF NOT YOUR BATTERY WOULD DRAIN/DIE. IT TOOK 20-30 MINUTES TO GET THE KEY OUT. IT BEGAN TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY AND AS I RESEARCHED I FOUND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI SONATA'S IN GENERAL. TO REMOVE THE KEY, A PERSON WOULD NEED TO PULL UP ON THE SHIFT LEVER, PUT SOMETHING IN THE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE (SUCH AS A PEN OR SMALL WRENCH) OR IF ALL ELSE FAILS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. I WAS SENT BY THE DEALER TO A LOCKSMITH, BUT THEY SHARED IT WAS SOMETHING IN THE SHIFT LEVER ITSELF. I WAS RECOMMENDED TO PUT WD 40 IN THE IGNITION, BUT THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE, THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY, TO WHICH I WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT THEY HAD PERFORMED SEVERAL WITHIN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. AS OF NOW, MY CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED.

UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE UP, I DROVE IT FIFTY FEET AWAY FROM MY MECHANIC AND THE ENGINE MADE A SEIZING SOUND AND SHUT OFF. THE CAR WAS STILL IN MOTION AND WOULDN'T STOP AS THE BRAKES WOULDN'T ENGAGE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION, JUST NARROWLY AVOIDING A CAR ACCIDENT. I HAD NO WARNING INDICATORS THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, I HAD ZERO ENGINE LIGHTS WARNING OF ANY IMPENDING ISSUES BEFORE THIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENGINE, WHICH ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE. MY MECHANIC HAS PROVIDED ME WITH A FULL HISTORY OF EVERY OIL CHANGE AND REPAIR ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE. THIS MECHANIC IS ALSO THE GENERAL MANAGER OF A REPUTABLE AUTO SHOP AND ASSURED ME I DID EVERYTHING RIGHT AND HYUNDAI SOLD A LEMON. I DID TAKE A PICTURE OF MY DASH BOARD 10 MINUTES PRIOR TO THIS EVENT HAPPENING. THIS CAN CONFIRM I DID NOT HAVE A SINGLE WARNING LIGHT PROVIDING A WARNING BEFORE THE ENGINE SEIZING UP COMPLETELY. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING I WAS REQUIRED TO BY HYUNDAI TO MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE. BUT THE ENGINE SEIZED REGARDLESS. 2013 SONATA SE 2.0 T MILEAGE : 63,223 SOLID MAINTENANCE HISTORY ON THE ENGINE AND CAR. RADIO VOLUME CONTROL BUTTON ON STEERING COLUMN EITHER DOESN'T WORK AT ALL, MUTES THE RADIO OR CAUSE THE "PLEASE SAY A COMMAND" PROMPT TO COME ON. THE PLEASE SAVE A COMMAND PROMPT BUTTON IS TWO BUTTON DOWNS FROM THE VOLUME CONTROL BUTTON. THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE WEEK. IT DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE A PATTERN. MY SUNROOF HAS EXPLODED TWICE IN THE PAST 18 MONTHS. THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT. SHORTLY AFTER, I REALIZED MY SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED WITH GLASS FALLING INTO THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE ALMOST CAUSED ME TO SWERVE ONTO TRAFFIC IN THE OTHER LANES. OF COURSE, HYUNDAI SAID IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE 2ND TIME WHICH HAPPENED YESTERDAY, I CAME TO WORK AND PARKED WHERE MY VEHICLE REMAINED ALL DAY. I EVEN STROLLED BY MY CAR DURING LUNCH AS I HOPPED INTO MY FRIEND'S VEHICLE AND SAW NO DAMAGE. MY CAR SITS IN MY ASSIGNED PARKING SPOT RIGHT OUTSIDE MY OFFICE WINDOW AT OUR LOCAL ARMORY. WHEN I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE LAST NIGHT AND DROVE OFF I COULD HEAR WHAT SOUNDED LIKE DIRT/GRAVEL FROM THE TIRES BUT SOON REALIZED IT WAS GLASS FROM THE SUNROOF. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY ALL DAY. NOW HYUNDAI IS TELLING ME THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGES AGAIN. NOT ACCEPTABLE.

AFTER REVIEW OF A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS IN REFERENCE TO THE ISSUE I BEGAN REVIEWING THE CASE NOTES. THERE IS POTENTIAL THAT THE CRASH WAS DUE TO INABILITY TO STEER CORRECTLY OR THE CAR STEERING OVERRIDE SYSTEM IMPROPERLY CORRECTING TO THE LEFT. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST AN INVESTIGATION OR INFORMATION ON GETTING AN INVESTIGATION INITIATED IN REGARD TO THIS DEATH AND GENERAL ISSUE.

MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FIVE TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SUNROOF LEAKING AND DAMAGING THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN IT IN FOR REPLACEMENT OF CV JOINTS TWICE AND AS OF YESTERDAY FOR THE THIRD TIME WITH NO RESOLUTION. WHEN I DROPPED OFF MY VEHICLE IT WAS FINE WITH NO LIGHTS, NO OIL CHANGE LIGHT ON OR ANYTHING, BUT THEY CALLED TO LET ME KNOW I HAD SLUDGE IN MY ENGINE AND IT IS GOING TO LOCK UP ON ME. MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER IT SO I WILL NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THE ISSUE ON A BRAND NEW CAR .I HAVE ALSO HAD TO CHANGE MY TIRES ON THE CAR AT LEAST EIGHT TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. I PURCHASED A WARRANTY FOR TIRES AND RIMS, BUT AS USUAL THEY HAVE LOOP HOLES. THEY PROMISED I CAN CHANGE MY RIMS IF I HAD ANY SCRATCHES, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO CHANGE THEM, THEY HAVE DENIED MY REQUEST FOR THREE YEARS. IT IS FRUSTRATING TO KNOW THAT WHAT THEY PROMISE IS A LIE.

I HAVE MADE CONTACT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS OVER THE YEARS. I GUESS THEY DON'T CARE. IT SEEMS THAT THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY HAS NO CONCERNS WITH RESPECT TO PRIVACY. (KEYLESS ENTRY) THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY STARTS. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE CAR WILL TURN ON, BUT WILL NOT START. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL COME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKES WILL LOCK. SOMETIMES AFTER A COUPLE TRIES, THE CAR WILL START. THERE HAS BEEN A FEW INSTANCES WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT START FOR HOURS AND HAD TO BE LEFT AT THE LOCATION, BUT WILL WORK THE NEXT DAY. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR MOSTLY IN THE AFTERNOON, AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING OUT IN THE SUN FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. THERE HAS BEEN AN ATTEMPT TO JUMP THE CAR, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL.

MY CAR REVVED TO BETWEEN 4 AND 6 THOUSAND RPMS WHEN I WAS PARKING IN MY WORK PARKING GARAGE. IN THE PROCESS I ENDED UP HITTING TWO SUVS AND DID OVER $5,500 IN DAMAGE TO MY CAR. I TOOK MY CAR TO OUR HYUNDAI SERVICE TO HAVE THE ENGINE LOOKED AT AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. ON FRIDAY, MAY 15 AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON RT 70 AT THE TOP OF BRADDOCK MOUNTAIN MY CAR REVVED AGAIN FOR NO REASON. LUCKILY I WASN'T IN TRAFFIC WHEN THE REV HAPPENED. THIS REV HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE CAR.

ON 6 OCCASIONS THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON, ALL AT SPEEDS 75-80, ALL AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 2 HOURS. (TRIPS TO LA, TUCSON). THE TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED OUT OK WHEN I STOPPED EACH TIME. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES, BUT EACH TIME THEY COULD NOT FIND A TROUBLE CODE. THE HYUNDAI BLUELINK DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM HAS INDICATED A TROUBLE CONDITION SINCE THE BEGINNING, AND STILL INDICATES A TROUBLE CONDITION EVEN THOUGH THE DEALER HAS INDICATED IT HAS BEEN RESET ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, AND WAS RESET AGAIN BY HYUNDAI USA ON 1/2/13. THE TPMS DOES NOT COME ON WHEN THE TIRES ARE COLD, AS ONE WOULD EXPECT. THE DEALER INDICATED THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND THE CAR SHOWS NO TROUBLE CODES. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI USA AND THEY INDICATE THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. BECAUSE OF ALL THE FALSE WARNINGS, I AM CONCERNED THAT I WILL NOT KNOW IF THERE IS A TRUE PROBLEM WITH MY TIRES OR JUST ANOTHER FALSE WARNING FROM THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM.
