The High-Voltage (HV) Hybrid Battery Pack Assembly failed, resulting in a system shutdown and the required replacement. The primary code is DTC P0A80 ("Replace Hybrid Battery Pack"), which indicates an internal manufacturing or design flaw, specifically a weak battery module or compromised internal connection, not normal wear. The defective component (the high-voltage battery) is currently at and is available for inspection. The entire vehicle is also compromised by the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module defect (NHTSA Recall 23V-651000). My safety was put at risk in two primary ways: 1. Immediate Loss of Power: The hybrid system failure resulted in a loss of drivetrain power, rendering the vehicle nearly immobile. This occurred on at approximately mph, placing me at high risk of a collision. 2. Latent Fire Risk: My vehicle is covered under the NHTSA ID 23V-651000 fire risk recall due to the ABS module. Hyundai specifically advised owners of these vehicles to "park their vehicles outside and away from structures" until the remedy is complete, confirming the severity of the latent fire hazard. The failure of the secondary HV battery system occurred within this already dangerous, electrically unstable environment. Yes, the vehicle was inspected by the Hyundai dealership / independent shop at the time of failure.. The manufacturer's corporate division has been contacted and is aware of the defect and the resulting $10,000 replacement estimate, as they offered a 50% "goodwill" subsidy which I am rejecting, asserting 100% coverage is required for a defect. Yes. The primary preceding warning was the intermittent appearance of the "Check Hybrid System, Turn off engine" warning.
The electrical in the entire car is malfunctioning. Sometimes the brake lights don’t work due to wiring, other times the seats control don’t work and the cables to battery is not connected/firing correctly. Has an entire electrical issue

Incident Summary: While driving on the freeway, the vehicle suddenly displayed the following alarming warnings: “Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive” “Check Charging System” Immediately after these messages appeared, the car lost all power and shut down in the middle of the road. I had my two young children (ages XXX and XXX) in the car, making the situation extremely unsafe and traumatic. The vehicle lost all mobility and provided no opportunity to safely pull over. After contacting Hyundai Corporate multiple times, a case manager was eventually assigned to my case. At Hyundai’s request, I towed the vehicle to AutoNation Hyundai Valencia for diagnostic evaluation. The dealership diagnosed the issue as error code P0A78, indicating a transmission failure. Hyundai Corporate offered to cover 60% of the repair cost, leaving me responsible for the remaining 40%—an amount that exceeds the current value of the vehicle. This proposed resolution is not reasonable considering the severity of the safety risk and the vehicle’s low mileage. My primary concern is that this is an extremely dangerous defect, as the vehicle loses all power without warning, leaving the driver unable to move the car to a safe location. Requested Actions: A formal investigation into the safety and reliability of Hyundai’s hybrid systems, specifically in 2014 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. A determination of whether this defect qualifies under Hyundai’s warranty or federal safety defect regulations. Formal Complaint – Hybrid System Failure, Safety Risk (VIN: [XXX] | Hyundai Case #[XXX]) Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to file a formal safety complaint regarding a dangerous incident involving my Hyundai hybrid vehicle (VIN: [XXX] ) and Hyundai Motor America's failure to respond meaningfully to repeated requests for assistance. Incident Summary: On [XXX], while driving with my two young children (ages [XXX] and [XXX] ), my vehicle suddenly displayed the following critical warnings: “Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive” “Check Charging System” Immediately after these messages appeared, the car lost all power and came to a complete stop in the middle of the road. This created an extremely hazardous and distressing situation for me and my family. Although the vehicle is a few years old, it has very low mileage (38,345 miles), and I did not expect such a catastrophic failure. the car has abruptly applied braking while driving. I took the car to get checked after that and i was told that there was nothing wrong except that the pads will need to be change sooner than later. I mechanic did tell me that it could be a safety issue because it was an uncontrollable. I than took the car to the Hyundai dealer for them to diagnose the car. They proposed that i change everything, including the brake pedal, which to me, sounded very fishy. One week ago, while driving, the car suddenly jammed on the brakes again. This particular time, it was also emitting smoke, either from the front or the bottom.

While driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was shaking and jumping, with the headlights flickering, and the steering wheel lost resistance, and became easier to maneuver. While turning the vehicle either to the left or the right, there was a vibrating sound coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. After the sound occurred, the contact noticed that after turning off the vehicle and then attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact manually moved the serpentine belt first to successfully start the vehicle. The exterior lights failed to illuminate intermittently. The air bag and battery failure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); and the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the engine was replaced. After having the recall repair completed, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, who then diagnosed the battery was malfunctioning due to a loosened terminal. The terminal was tightened up however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who tightened the terminal; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to another certified mechanic who placed an aluminum piece to assist with securing the terminal. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.

When I was driving on highway check brake warning came up with hybrid system warning I wasn’t be able to stop or accelerate I slowed down and pulled over might caused a big accident.
I was driving and my car started beeping and the wheel jerked to the left and my car slowed down from 65mph to 20mph and almost caused me to have an accident. After I replaced the breaking module, my battery started shorting out and my car once again jerked off to the side and then slowed down abruptly from 65 mph to 20mph.
Oct 24th, 2024 on highway had accelerated to 75, all of a sudden, car experienced mechanical shutdown, engine light came on would go fast slow down, felt like braking down, engine light was solid, had to get very slowly somehow into the brake down lane. Turned the car off, waited long time...got advice to try to power car back on because was night and was dangerous lane. Car started, drove very slowly home with hazard lights on. Next incident (that I was on hgwy) Nov 24th, 2024 went from 65 to work up to 80MPh, the car lights went on for engine, slowing down,no control of the speed, no accelerating, lights, made to pull over...turn car off...waiting 15 minutes, drove in break down lane, was only 7-8 minutes from my house off highway.
Electrical system going out only at night because headlights and inside lights are turning off for a few seconds only while driving at night this has happened multiple times since august and is becoming a safety concern while driving at night it's a safety concern because this has happened incoming traffic on roads and highways. The vehicle hasn't been inspected by dealership I tried calling to get an appointment but was told there is a fee and if something electrical a may have a cost per hour to inspect. No warning lights are turning on prior to headlights and inside lights going out. During the day no issues with vehicle. I've read a few online posts from other owners with same issue.

I was driving the car and suddenly it started showing ‘hybrid malfunction do not drive’ It doesn’t go over 40km/hr. The Hyundai dealership wants me to trade it in. It’s only been 2.5 years that I have this car. Mechanics couldn’t figure out the solution

The contact stated that there were no more failure occurrences after the rearview camera was disconnected. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The brake lights fail with no warning. Bulb replacement used to work. Since ownership at +70,000 miles, I have had to replace one or both of the tail light sections as they melted. The lighting harness has been changed multiple times. In January 2024 Hyundai issued a warranty extension to 15years/200,000miles. There is no date on the letter. When I tried to get my car serviced there were charges for testing to ensure that this was the problem and it was difficult to find someone to service the car in a timely manner. The police continue to issue me tickets for no rear brake lights. The Dealer who finally serviced the car indicated that the Warranty was Void as the replacement parts were not Hyundai parts. Servicing the car was well after the original warranty was already over, so why would you worry about warranty claims for original parts. They claim that they cannot diagnosis the problem without original parts. Hyundai Corporate Customer Service was no help in this matter, but they did apologize for the problem. Can't drive a car without tail lights and paying 850 for the repair is one month of my disability check.

I was driving my 2014 Hyundai Sonata, with my 3 year old twins in the car. The car would not accelerate properly. All the lights came on on the dashboard. I pulled over. It was just smoking then caught fire.

I am filing a complaint due to the lack of timely fix of this recall. It has been more than four months since the recall was issued (NHTSA Recall Number 23V651000) with no repair available.
ABS module is damaged. Car is not operable. Dealership did diagnostic on vehicle. And stated there is an ABS recall. But no remedy as of yet. Car will not operate.
Vehicle displaying "hybrid system warning! Safely stop and do not drive!" And "check brake" car will not drive over 15 mph. Also draining has And 12 volt battery. Took it to hyundai dealership and was told that the brake module was damaged and needed replacement. We are aware of the current ABS recall. And waiting for remedy
The car warning lights turn on and the car shuts down. The problem is with the Hybrid battery that is malfunctioning. This is a serious life and death problem. After the vehicle stops it goes in neutral and rolls .
BRAKES FAILED CAR DID NOT STOP ONCE THROWN IN PARK I WAS GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT!!! AFTERWARDS CAR COMPLETELY DIED. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ALL SORTS OF ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE 2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. I HAVE PAID FOR LABOR SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME I GET THE VEHICLE BACK THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY DEAD AND NEEDS TO BE JUMPED FOR EACH USE. when using the turn signals, either way, the headlights cut off. sometimes they flicker back on and sometimes they stay off.
When I am driving with my headlights on auto, every time I use my turn signal (and sometimes spontaneously) my headlights flicker. Sometimes it’s just for a second, but other times it has lasted more than 3 seconds which can be very dangerous while driving at night. It is also dangerous because other drivers may think I’m flashing my brights at them when im not. During this the dash will flicker as well. This has been happening since I got the car in 2018 so it’s not a battery issue.
Over past 2 years, repeat alarm & message on dashboard, says, “Hybrid System Warning! Safety Stop and Do not Drive.” During attempts to back vehicle from garage, brakes grind. Seemed to be on auto-stop, trying to stop the vehicle from moving. On 01/03/22, brought car to Laguna Niguel Hyundai. Invoice notes “Caused by HISTORY CODES IN AHB C2112 C1102 C1237; NO CODES CURRENT CLEARED HISTORY CODES AND TEST DROVE VEHICLE NO CODES OR LIGHTS ON AT THIS TIME.” Was told history codes related to something about “voltage too high” and “Accelerator switch circuit [ABS switch]” and “wheel rear input signal.” On 11/28/22, brought car to Laguna Niguel Hyundai to address the ‘check engine light’ that was on. Service manager said “battery was not corresponding with the engine”, something about “HECU” and how it’s needed to “check brake reservoir for fluid – so I should pump it due to air bubble inside.” On 6/12/23, was driving more than 70mph; began losing speed, down to 0 mph. Stepping on gas did nothing. Drifted toward side of road & got alarm sound and message on dashboard, “Hybrid System Failure.” Terrified. No control of vehicle, 4 passengers, stranded. Towed to La Quinta. Notes on Hyundai La Quinta invoice: “VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN SCANNED CODES P1B25 HIGH VOLTAGE PATH FAULT; P1B77 HIGH VOLTAGE PRECHARGE FAULT; POWER RELAY ASSEMBLY FALUTY SAFETY PLUG ASSEMBLY ARE FAULTY.” Notes also said BATTERY REPLACEMENT: BATTERY FAILED TEST Caused by BATTERY FAILED LOAD TEST. On 7/31, “HYBRID WARNING MESSAGE” returned. Alarm sound, grinding brakes – car undriveable. Towed for service. Invoice: “Caused by LOW BATTERY STATE OF HEALTH 53%. RECHARGE BATTERY TO 100% AND CLEAR DTC AND ROAD TEST.” While 7/31 work was covered under warranty, felt unsafe. Why battery health poor, when it was replaced 6 weeks before? Then came 8/30. Car disabled. Alarm sound & message says, “Hybrid System Warning! Safety Stop and Do not Drive.” Service manager said “hydraulic power unit failure”.
Lost power to vehicle while driving on the freeway, hybrid system warning was displayed as well as several lights to include engine, brake, and skid control. Had the dealer replace the knock sensor, 3 months later the exact same thing happened, in the same way. All the same obd2 codes were pulled both times.
On the dashboard showing " Hybrid system warning. Safely park and do not drive" sign while the vehicle is being driven and slowly loose its power till completely stall. After I turn off the engine and try to turn on again ,the "Ready" sign keeps blinking. I was twice stall by the exit of a freeway. It's very dangerous. I also found a few recalls related to this issue in the past.
Im not aware what is malfunctioning or failing but I get a warning to not drive the vehicle and I start hearing a beeping sound, when I try to break it makes a harsh screeching sound and tugs the car a bit. It’s putting my safety at risk bc I drive for work and I can’t keep having this problem happen on the freeway. I’m afraid my brakes will fail and not break. Idk what the cause to this is, I’ve had two different mechanics take a look at this and no codes pop up. No warnings pop up either. This has been going on for almost 3 months. I can’t drive this vehicle with this problem and it’s the only one I rely on for work and my everyday needs. If you guys can please help me out or look into it I will be waiting for a response. My tail lights, brake lights and head lights continue to go out. I have replaced them many times myself and have taken it to the Hyundai dealership. They temporarily fixed them but couldn’t promise how long they would work. They said to fix them would cost over 1000$. This is a safety hazard as not having brake lights could cause serious accidents. This doesn’t seem Normal as I have never In my entire time I have been driving had to continually replace lights. Sounds like a manufacturer defect and I feel like the dealership should have to pay, not out of my pocket. I have been pulled over by the police and have had to explain why my lights don’t work. It’s scary because I never know if they are working or not. I did not get any warnings on my dashboard that lights were out. I have also googled this problem and it seems like a lot of the same year of Hyundai vehicles are having the same issues.
While driving the vehicle the lights on the dash start to flash, stating that there is a Charging system warning. It says to pull over and not to drive. It becomes very difficult to brake, or steer, almost like the vehicle has lost power. It blew warm air and the check engine light also came on. This can be extremely dangerous if one was on the highway or at an intersection or any place where they needed to pull over to safety. My 12v battery was checked and found to be fine. I called multiple mechanics to come take a look at the vehicle and the codes that were read were P1B77, P1B96, P1B70, P0A0D. The 150 Amp fuse was said to be blown, and was replaced. Sometimes the car will start back up, and sometimes it won't. Currently, it's sitting in my yard. The engine and interior look pristine, but there is something going on with these vehicles that isn't being addressed. This car is dangerous and there are many, many, MANY people that I'm finding on Reddit, YouTube, and the Hyundai forums who are having the exact same issues. I unfortunately cannot afford to continue to keep hiring mechanics, nor to have it towed to the dealership, only for them to do what they are doing with countless other people. They do not seem to understand the issue either and are grasping at straws to replace expensive parts, only to have the issue reoccur. Something needs to be done about this before someone is killed.
Left driver side rear and front headlamps would burn out, after time noticed the left headlamp flickering 9n and off while driving at night in auto mode, also inside dash lights dimming, also left driver side seat will not adjust, this is a Hazzard for myself and others while driving at night, with lights malfunctioning, was pulled over by highway patrol, and given a warning to fix headlamp.Issue has not been inspected by anyone and the vehicle can be inspected upon request, no dash or warning lights have came on.

Similar to other complaints here and in other forums: Faulty lights: flickering off and on while driving at night, unable to use the lights in “auto” mode or else they flicker/battery drains and flickering with use of turn signals. Has been reoccurring since at least 2021 and has worsened over time
Right taillight working intermittently.
Engine died on the interstate at 65 mph, then the dash lights started going crazy. Shortly followed by smoke coming from the engine compartment. I opened the hood and could see a short casing the fire which I could not put out with my extinguisher.
At 1st, my tail light went out on my passenger side of the car. I tired to fix the problem with replacing the bulb. This went on for several times. It got to the point that the bulb wouldn’t fix the problem. I then replaced the wiring harness. That worked for a day or two then the light was back out. I even went back to the dealership and had then replace the wiring harness, I was thinking perhaps I had a defected one, still to no avail. I then paid the $170 diagnostic fee so the dealership could find the problem. Well, I was told the problem was beyond the tail light and it was more than likely needed to be traced throughout my car. The job was gonna be too time consuming and costly for that particular dealership and ultimately my money was returned. Throughout this crazy process I had contacted the Hyundai corporate office to report the problem and was dismissed. So, here’s the bigger picture. Once I started researching this problem more and more people were having the same problems as I. The light bulbs in the tail lights was burning so hot that it would burn out the bulb, the wires and the housing causing many people to replace bulbs and in some cases the whole unit. This what happened to the driver side of my car. The entire housing and wiring was not good and the whole thing had to be replaced. Hyundai has some serious electrical defects with the year and model of my car. They don’t want even acknowledge that there is a problem. Honestly, one of the employees explained to me how this was a known problem and how the company tried to fix it by making the socket thicker with the hopes of the bulb not burning out. This employee knew the the wiring harness was changed before to the new one the original one because of the color of it. So, clearly, it did not solve the problem. Now that my electrical issues existent beyond the tail light means my car could be at risk of fire at anytime. Last thing, my high beams don’t work now also.
Faulty lights: flickering off and on while driving at night, park light fail to come on but break lights work, unable to use the lights in “auto” mode or else they flicker. Flickering with left front turn signal. There are multiple complaints about this issue on YouTube and when you Google the car and check reviews. This issue puts my life, my children’s lives, and so many others lives in danger.
2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO THE FUEL TUBE RECALL.
Having to replace headlights and brake lates every month, now rear passenger side light is completely out and will not come on after changing all bulbs and fuses, see this as a major safety issue, there are many complaints about this same issue and Hyundai is ignoring this safety issue
I started my 2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and proceeded out of the garage. Almost immediately out of the garage, a loud high alarm went off and the dashboard read "Electric Motor Warning - Safely pull over and do not drive". My vehicle simultaneously lost any ability to accelerate and slowly tried to get the vehicle into a parking spot in our apartment's driveway. This was not the first time this has happened. This same thing happened earlier this year and required a recall service that I was told to be fixed after being without a vehicle for 3 months!
Last night 9/5/22 I went to change out my brake light on driver side which should have been very simple when next thing I know I’m having a very hard time twisting the socket to remove from housing because it had fused the plastic together from burning. Idk if you think it’s normal but to me that’s a very susceptible spot for a car fire. Anyways I decided to check passenger side and again same issue. The last pic was of the passenger side burnt end of the brake light.
Head Lights Go Out Completely at Highway Speed Headlight dimmer switch fails to switch between high and low beam. Lights can go completely out with zero viability during nighttime driving conditions. Speed of vehicle seems not to be a factor in the headlamp failures. May also fail to dim from high-beam to low-beam in the instant of oncoming traffic. Causes a great deal of distraction to safe driving as attention of diverted to fiddling with the headlight/turn signal switch stalk. Lights have sometimes gone completely out (dark) at highway speed in congested traffic conditions. Has been an issue since I purchased the vehicle in 2015 with under 17,000 miles but the problem is getting progressively more frequent. I am concerned that in the future, I may not be able to get the head lamps to come back on, while I am at highway speed and no chance for a safe emergency exit of the roadway.
I drove a mile from my house and the vehicle stalled at a turn. The engine shut off. I tried to turn it back on and it did not. I have an electrical push button and it did not work. My passenger and I pushed the car out of the road into the back area of an HEB. We then opened the hood and the engine started smoking. I had called my boyfriend who then arrived. The engine continued to smoke and an HEB driver saw the incident. He came over with a fire extinguisher and sprayed it because they could see flames starting under the car. The fire department and police had been called. The car engine then went up in flames and my boyfriend used the fire extinguisher. The fire department arrived and went over to the car and cut the wires. Nothing on the car works. It has not been assessed because I only had collision insurance and my company would not come to assess it. They did tow it back to my house where it is sitting and not working. I can't even move it into neutral. There was not warning of this and I had driven the car to the airport (an hour away) and back five hours earlier that day and it seemed fine. The fire department said that if they need to be contacted they have a report on the incident.
We were driving and the engine just quit. We were able to safely get to the median. The minute the car was stopped we smelled something burning. We got the kids out of the car and to the other side of the road. We looked under the hood and could smell the burning but didn't see where it was coming from. Soon we were back on the side of the road waiting for our ride to pick us up. About 20 to 25 min later we saw smoke coming out of the hood. My husband called the fire dept and just as they arrived the whole thing lit on fire under the hood. The fire dept was able to put out the fire. Now we are waiting to have it appraised by our insurance company.

Hybrid System Warning! This is the second time I have received this issue. It seems like a big issue within these types of cars. The first time I took it to Hyundai and they said replace the transmission. I took it to my transmission guy and he just changed the alternator and it worked. Now today, I am getting the same error message, but all the answers online are completely different things. I called Hyundai again and they once again suggested to replace transmission. They are trying to rip people off. This car is a lemon.
Headlights turn off when applying it turn signal. Low beam headlights are not shining far enough down the road to be able to see.
Headlights will randomly flash off/on while driving. Using turn signals will also make the headlights (and some interior lighting) flicker off/on. Headlights were replaced, but problem still exists. This is a major safety issue for me as other drivers believe I'm flashing my lights intentionally, not to mention, driving at night and having your headlights turn off randomly isn't very safe. We feel very unsafe driving this vehicle after dark because of this issue. This problem started at approx. 70,000 miles. Took the vehicle to the dealer and was told the issue is a defective multi function switch and that others are having the same issue. However, but the dealer said this issue is only covered by the warranty up to 50K miles and I would have to pay to have this resolved. I contacted Hyundai Consumer Affair's and opened a complaint with them. I was assigned case number 18855023, but was told there isn't anything Hyundai could do and I would need to deal with my dealer to get this repaired out of warranty. From my research I've found that many other Sonata owners are experiencing this same issue and that some of the Hyundai Genesis line of vehicles also are experiencing these issues, but in response to these Genesis owners, Hyundai has extended the warranty of the multifunction switch assembly to 15 years with unlimited miles from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use (whichever occurs first). Why is Hyundai not addressing this same issue that exists on their other model lines??? Hyundai needs to extend the warranty and repair this defective switch for ALL other Hyundai models. This is a very unsafe and potentially life threatening hazardous issue that needs to be address for all Hyundai customers and not just the Genesis owners.
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed while he was at a complete stop at the stoplight, but it failed to respond. The battery warning light and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact turned off and attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle would not start. The contact noticed smoke coming from underneath the driver’s side hood. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with some assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer called the contact and advised that he would be responsible for the cost of the repair as he failed to complete an unknown recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. As I was driving down the road , my light start flickering. Then immediately go out and wont come back on. No warning light came on. My light stating my trunk was open came on but my trunk was not open and the tire pressure light came on but normally it states which tire and that didn't happen either. Nothing was wrong with the tires either. I had them check.

The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that they would be able to diagnose the vehicle in four weeks. The dealer also advised the contact that the turn signal switch needed to be replaced. The contact also contacted a second unknown dealer who also advised the contact that the turn signal switch needed to be replaced; however, the earliest availability was in a couple of weeks. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the turn signal switch was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not provide any assistance. A case was opened. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 97,200.

When driving at night headlights, and all lights goes off.(I do not drive much after dark, but this needs to be addressed). It has happened a few times this past year, thought it was me, yet my daughter used the car and she had it happened 4 or 5 times.Sometimes it happens when you use directional lights. No warning when it happens, which is very dangerous .There is only less than 68,000 miles. Supposed to be under warranty 100,000 miles or 10 years, yet I am told I have to pay $150.00 to do diagnostic which may not be solving the problem which is not fair. Looking online there are many complaints of this on this year and model. Asked the manufacturer when will they do a recall? After someone gets killed?

WHAT SEEMS TO BE RANDOM AND WITHOUT PROVOCATION, THE CAR WILL SOUND A BEEPING ALARM THAT ONLY SOUNDS ON THE INTERIOR, IT WILL DEACTIVATE THE ACCELERATOR (BASICALLY PUTS THE CAR IN NEUTRAL), AND WILL DISPLAY A WARNING MESSAGE THAT READS "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING! SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE. CHECK BRAKE". NO MATTER WHAT SPEED THE CAR IS TRAVELING AT, IT CAN UNDERGO THIS PROBLEM. IF BRAKES ARE APPLIED DURING THIS ISSUE, IT WILL SOUND AS IF THE BRAKES ARE GRINDING AND ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE ISSUE CAN ONLY BE RESOLVED BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE, AND RESTARTING IT. IF THIS IS DONE, THE CAR IS BACK TO 'NORMAL' FUNCTION. IT HAS CERTAINLY BEEN A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT HAS DONE IT MULTIPLE TIMES IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHER RATES OF SPEED, AND THE CAR STALLS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS FOUND NO ISSUE AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS, AND SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY THE ISSUE OVERALL. I WOULD ESTIMATE THIS EXACT ISSUE HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 20 TIMES, PERIODICALLY, OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS.

THEY SAID IT WAS12V A BATTERY ISSUE AND IT'S FIXED. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY TO PICK UP THE CAR. I PAID $388 FOR REPLACING THE BATTERY. THE CAR WON'T START WITH THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE. I HAVE REPLACED MY LIGHT BULBS IN THE BACK 2 TAIL LIGHTS WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER. AND THE LIGHT BULBS KEEP GOING OUT. IT IS SOMETHING ELECTRICAL GOING ON. I HAVE ALSO A MELTED HOUSING LIGHT. EVERY TIME I PUT A LIGHT BULB IN. IT GOES BACK OUT. THE ONLY STOPPING LIGHT THAT WORKS IS THE ONE IT THE BACK WINDOW. SO ONLY MY LEFT LIGHT WORKS WHEN I TURN ON THE LIGHTS. BUT NO BRAKE LIGHTS. WHEN YOU TRY TO CORRECT IT, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO BE HARD TO TURN LIKE IT IS LOCKED. IF I TURN THE WHEEL BACK THE OTHER WAY THE ATTEMPT TO STEER NORMALLY, THE WHEEL IS LOOSE AND NORMAL. SPEED IS NOT A FACTOR AS THIS HAS HAPPENED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 35 TO 70 PH. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND THEY "TEST DRIVE IT BUT COULD NOT REPLICATE IT". I WAS TOLD THEY COULD KEEP IT FOR A WEEK AND LET SOMEONE DRIVE IT AROUND AND THEY WOULD TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT. IN THE MEANTIME, I WOULD BE WITHOUT A CAR. ALSO, THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL BUZZING NOISE COMING OUT FROM UNDER MY DASHBOARD BEHIND THE SPEEDOMETER. I HAVE ACTUALLY CALLED A COUPLE DIFFERENT DEALERS AND LET THEM LISTEN TO IT BUT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IT IS. MY LOCAL DEALER WANT S TO AGAIN KEEP MY CAR FOR A WEEK TO INVESTIGATE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED. AFTER 3 DAYS I PICKED THE CAR UP, AND THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE KNOCK SENSOR AND THE CAR WAS FIXED. SINCE THEN THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES. CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP. I STARTED RESEARCHING ON MY OWN, AND I READ THAT THE KNOCK SENSOR WAS AN UPDATE HYUNDAI ADDED AFTER THE RECALL OF THE ENGINES IN THESE CARS. THIS KNOCK SENSOR IS ACTUALLY PROTECTING MY CAR (AND ME) BY PUTTING IT IN 'LIMP MODE' BECAUSE IT SENSES SOMETHING DANGEROUS IN THE ENGINE. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO INFORM THEM I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THIS HAS HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES AND CLEARLY IS'T FIXED, AND I'M SURE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE RECALLS THEY HAVE AND ENGINE FIRES. THEY'VE DONE NOTHING. LAST TIME I WENT TO GET THE CAR THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT MANY PEOPLE WERE HAVING ISSUES, BUT HYUNDAI DOESN'T ALLOW THEM TO ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE TO DO WORK-AROUND FIXES INSTEAD OF THE ACTUAL REPAIRS NEEDED. THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH EXTERNAL LIGHT BULBS GOING OUT. HAD TO REPLACE 4 IN THE MATTER OF COUPLE MONTHS. SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER (THOUGHT IT WAS GAS) , RADIO RESTARTING AUTOMATICALLY. ONE DAY WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD, ALL THE SENSORS STARTED FLICKERING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, ENGINE SHUT OFF ,CAME TO A STOP. I MANAGED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IN COUPLE MINUTES AND DRIVE IT THE NEAREST SHOP. HAPPENED AT 78 K MILES. THE SHOP SAID THEY CANNOT FIX THIS PROBLEM, HAD TO TAKE IT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS NOW. WILL TAKE A WEEK TO FIX AND WELL OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS IN COST. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE ELECTRICAL ISSUE IN SUCH A YOUNG VEHICLE, HYUNDAI NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND HAVE A RECALL. DRIVING IN LIGHT RAIN ON NORMAL PAVEMENT ST LOUIS COUNTY. APPROACHED STOP SIGN AT END OF STEEP HILL. APPLIED BRAKES LIGHTLY AND WELL IN ADVANCE BUT CAR WAS NOT STOPPING. REALIZED THAT ENGINE HAD STOPPED SO NOTHING WAS WORKING. CAR BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AS IF BRAKES WERE TRYING TO GRAB. FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION - FORTUNATELY NOBODY WAS IN FRONT OF US ARE ATTEMPTING TO CROSS INTERSECTION IN OTHER DIRECTION. CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. TRIED TO RESTART BUT NOTHING. HAD TO MOVE CAR SO TRIED TO START AGAIN - STARTER DID NOT CRANK AT ALL, BUT SUDDENLY ENGINE WAS RUNNING AS IF IT HAD NEVER STOPPED AND ALL POWER WAS RESTORED. DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO DEALER THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH ENGINE RECALL. WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY WITH NO INCIDENT. AFTER 3 DAYS OF BEING AT DEALER WE WERE TOLD THAT SOMETHING IN THE BRAKE FLUID "MODULE" HAD BROKEN LOSE AND BRAKE FLUID LEAKED INTO WIRE HARNESS CAUSING EXTREME CORROSION. THEY BELIEVE THE ENGINE NEVER ACTUALLY STOPPED RUNNING, BUT RATHER THE ELECTRICAL SIGNAL WAS MOMENTARILY INTERRUPTED DUE TO THE CORROSION. IT WAS GOING TO BE A $5000 FIX. WE DID NOT HAVE CAR REPAIRED. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD SEND IT TO AUCTION. THIS CAR MUST TO BE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AS IT IS A HAZARD TO ANYONE WHO PURCHASES IT, EVEN "AS IS". REPORTED TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS AT HYUNDAI ON 11/6/19. SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE 11/14/19 AND WAS TOLD CAR WOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE. I AM REPORTING HERE TO INSURE THAT IT IS INDEED TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. IN JUNE & JULY 2019, I HAD BEEN TOLD BY UNHAPPY MOTORISTS, YOU HAVE NO REAR LIGHTS &/OR BRAKE LIGHTS. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP 7/19/19 EXPLAINED BURNING SMELL. WAS TOLD PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT BURNT OUT. IT WAS REPLACED, I WAS CHARGED $44.84. THEY SAID NOTHING ABOUT SMELL. NOT BEING HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE DEPT NOT ADDRESSING THE SMELL, I CALLED HYUNDAI CS AGAIN. A CASE WAS OPENED. TOOK CAR TO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC PER HYUNDAI CASE. THEY ONLY DID THE REAREND, TECH SAID THEY HAD KNOWN ISSUES ON THIS. BOTH SIDES WERE FOUND TO HAVE BURNT UP WIRING ASSEMBLIES AGAIN THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. TECH REPORTED TO ME THAT THE LAST TECH AT THE OTHER SHOP WOULD HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE AT THE TIME THEY REPLACED THE BULB, IF THEY REPLACED IT! HYUNDAI GAVE ME 2 OPTIONS; THEY PAY PARTS & LABOR-NO WARRANTY ON EITHER, OR THEY PAY PARTS & I PAY LABOR FOR 12 MONTH/12,000 MILE WARRANTY. I AM PAYING LABOR FOR WARRANTY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS ONLINE REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE. I WILL LIVE IN FEAR OF MY CAR BURNING UP WITH/WITHOUT ME IN IT. I HAD THE RECENT ENGINE SOFTWARE UPDATE PER HYUNDAI'S 953 CAMPAIGN. ON 3/22/19, I EXITED A HIGHWAY AND SLOWED DOWN PRIOR TO MERGING ONTO THE NEXT ROAD. I NEEDED TO ACCELERATE, HOWEVER MY ENGINE BOGGED AND HESITATED SIGNIFICANTLY. AS SUCH, ANOTHER CAR QUICKLY APPROACHING HAD TO BREAK HEAVILY TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH MY CAR. I LOOKED DOWN AND OBSERVED MY ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING. ONCE THE CAMERA WAS REMOVED FROM THE CAR, THE VEHICLE OPERATIONS RETURNED TO NORMAL. PLEASE ADVISE HYUNDAI OF THIS ISSUE, SO OTHER MOTORISTS CAN BE SPARED THIS FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANUALLY TURN ON THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH IN TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO MANUFACTURER RECALL TO ADDRESS THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTIFIED IN WRITING FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER DID NOT NOTIFY THE CONTACT OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V568000 (ENGINE) AND 15V759000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ON THREE OCCASIONS MY CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER THE SECOND TIME IT FAILED, I BROUGHT IT IN. HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT AFTER HOOKING IT UP TO THE MACHINE. NO CODES SHOWED ON THE SYSTEM CHECK. THEY SAID THEY CHECKED THE BATTERY. THEY SAID IT COULD BE THE BRAKE SENSOR, WHICH WAS CHANGED FROM A RECALL, SO THEY SAID I HAVE A NEW ONE, THEY WOULD JUST ADJUST IT AND HOPEFULLY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. WENT TO START THE CAR ALL IT DID WAS GO CLICK. TRIED DIFFERENT KEY FOB, IT STARTED, REPLACE BOTH BATTERIES IN KEY FOBS. NEXT WEEK, WOULDN'T START, LET IT SET FOR A BIT, IT STARTED, WEEK LATER ON A SATURDAY TRIED WOULD NOT START, CALLED HYUNDAI 24 HR ROAD SERVICE, THEY HAD TROUBLE STARTING IT. NEXT MORNING IT STARTED, 6 HRS LATER IT WOULDN'T START, MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER FROM PARK TO DRIVE BACK TO PARK LIKE THE ROAD SERVICE GUY DID, IT STARTED. IT STARTED THE NEXT MORNING MONDAY 6/22/15 TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY SHOWS A CHARGE OF 10 VOLTS. I HAVE A PRINT OUT FROM PEP BOYS SHOWING THAT THE BATTERY NEEDS REPLACED SOON AS IT MAY NOT START A CAR. WHICH THEY WERE RIGHT. HYUNDAI CORP. COULD CARE LESS ABOUT ME OR MY CAR, WHAT I THINK, THEY SOLD A CAR IS ALL THEY CARE ABOUT. BETWEEN ME AND MY TWO SONS WE HAVE PURCHASED OVER THE YEARS 8 HYUNDAI VEHICLES. BECAUSE WHAT THEY ARE DOING, OR SHOULD I SAY NOT DOING FOR ME THERE DAD, NO MORE HYUNDAI CARS, HYUNDAI DOES NOT STAND BY THERE CARS, WARRANY THEIR PRODUCTS. I NOTICED THAT MY BLINKERS WERE WORKING BUT I COULD NOT HEAR THEM AND MY SEAT BELT DID THE SAME. I WENT TO THE MORGAN HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THEY FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MAKING CHIME SOUNDS CAUSED BY INSUFFICIENT VOLUME COMING FROM CHIME IN BCM.THEY ORDERED THE MODULE TO CORRECT AND REPLACED IT A FEW DAYS LATER. WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP I COULD NOT TELL ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE CHIME SOUND. SO I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE MY HEARING AND SCHEDULED AN APOINTMENT WITH AND EAR DOCTOR. I EXPLAINED TO HIM WHAT WAS HAPPENING. HE TESTED ME AND SAID THAT I DID HAVE SOME DIFFICULTY IN HEARING HIGH PITCH SOUNDS BUT THAT IT WAS NOT BAD ENOUGH TO HAVE HEARING AIDS. HE WENT OUT TO MY CAR AND LISTENED TO THE CAR CHIME AND SAID THAT HE HAD GOOD HEARING FOR HIS AGE AND HE WAS ALSO HAVING DIFFFICULTY HEARING IT. SO I LEFT HIS OFFICE AND WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS MET BY A VERY YOUNG LADY AND SHE SAID THAT SHE COULD HEAR IT BUT IT WAS NOT VERY LOUD. SHE THEN GOT AN ELDERLY MAN THAT WORKED THERE TO LISTED AND HE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS I DID. THEN WE GOT A MIDDLE AGE WOMAN SALES PERSON TO LISTEN AND SHE HAD DIFFICULTY ALSO. THEN THEY GOT THE KEYS FOR FOUR 2014 SONATAS AND TRIED THEM ALL OF THEM FAILED THE TEST. SO AS A LAST RESORT WE GOT THE KEYS ON A 2015 SONATA AND WE COULD HEAR IT FINE. THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI TO SEE IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL BE RECALLED OR IF THEY HAVE HAD ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. IT CONCERNS ME BECAUSE I AM USE TO HEARING THE CHIME WHEN I PUT MY KEYS IN MY CAR AND IF FIXED MAY CAUSE ME FROM HAVING AN ACCIDENT WITH OUT MY SEAT BELT ON.
