My vehicle, a 2014 Hyundai Sonata Turbo, is having brake lock-up issues. It seems to be related to the AVS (Automatic Brake System). This happens mostly when the vehicle is parked on a hill and the brakes lock up when I start moving. This has been happening for several months, but my mechanic hasn't been able to find the problem. I made an appointment with Hyundai to find out what the issue is, but they told me there's no recall related to it.

the car has abruptly applied braking while driving. I took the car to get checked after that and i was told that there was nothing wrong except that the pads will need to be change sooner than later. I mechanic did tell me that it could be a safety issue because it was an uncontrollable. I than took the car to the Hyundai dealer for them to diagnose the car. They proposed that i change everything, including the brake pedal, which to me, sounded very fishy. One week ago, while driving, the car suddenly jammed on the brakes again. This particular time, it was also emitting smoke, either from the front or the bottom.

I was driving and my car started beeping and the wheel jerked to the left and my car slowed down from 65mph to 20mph and almost caused me to have an accident. After I replaced the breaking module, my battery started shorting out and my car once again jerked off to the side and then slowed down abruptly from 65 mph to 20mph.

ABS control unit/pump is leaking. I was told it's not covered under warranty or recall. Local mechanic states they can't repair it because the part has to be properly programed at the dealership. I've spoken with other Hyundai owners and they have had the same issue.

Lost all braking ability while driving. Had towed to a shop and they were finally able to recreate the issue. There are no error codes indicated when they hook up to a computer. Have bled brakes and still not fixed. They are telling me they've done all they can do.

Received recall notice on 4-16-24 and immediately called for an appt to repair ABS problem. I was told that the part was not available at this time and should call back in a couple of weeks. I called on May 2, 2024 and scheduled an appt. for May 7. After waiting for over an hour, I was told that, yes indeed, my car needed repair but could not be done at that time as this was only an inspection to determine that a repair was needed and someone would call when the part is available but they don't know when. I feel like I was given a run around.

On Feb 15th 2023 my daughter was driving my 2014 Hyundai Sonata at the posted speed limit of 55 MPH on a 2 lane blacktop when the car suddenly and without any warning at all, lost all power and became unresponsive while traveling with other vehicles behind her, in front of her and in the opposing lane of travel. Without enough of an improved shoulder to pull to the right and a steep embankment on that side of the roadway as well, she was forced to veer to the left with other cars approaching. She had minimal braking, steering and no response to depressing the accelerator pedal at all. She was able to direct the car onto a paved portion of a feeder road and finally got the car stopped. The cabin filled with smoke and there was smoke all around the car but no fire was ever found. These vehicles are dangerous to the public and have a known engine defect that because of this the manufacturer has implemented a software patch known as KSDS and with this recall in place should have allowed my daughter to reach a safer place than being stranding on the side of a busy hi-way. My car had this patch installed and I was assured that this recall would allow the car to be driven a safe distance and it would be obvious when this patch was active and the engine would be put in "Limp mode" This did not happen, the engine locked up

ABS module is damaged. Car is not operable. Dealership did diagnostic on vehicle. And stated there is an ABS recall. But no remedy as of yet. Car will not operate.

Took it to hyundai dealership and was told that the brake module was damaged and needed replacement. We are aware of the current ABS recall. And waiting for remedy

BRAKES FAILED CAR DID NOT STOP ONCE THROWN IN PARK I WAS GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT!!! AFTERWARDS CAR COMPLETELY DIED. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ALL SORTS OF ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE 2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. I HAVE PAID FOR LABOR SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME I GET THE VEHICLE BACK THE NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY DEAD AND NEEDS TO BE JUMPED FOR EACH USE. THE DEALERSHIP REALLY HASN'T PROVIDED A FIX, CURRENTLY BRAKE FLUID SIGN IS ON. THIS CAR HAS BEEN TOWED AND SERVICED AT LEAST 10 TIMES. I NEED HELP

Over past 2 years, repeat alarm & message on dashboard, says, “Hybrid System Warning! Safety Stop and Do not Drive.” During attempts to back vehicle from garage, brakes grind. Seemed to be on auto-stop, trying to stop the vehicle from moving. On 01/03/22, brought car to Laguna Niguel Hyundai. Invoice notes “Caused by HISTORY CODES IN AHB C2112 C1102 C1237; NO CODES CURRENT CLEARED HISTORY CODES AND TEST DROVE VEHICLE NO CODES OR LIGHTS ON AT THIS TIME.” Was told history codes related to something about “voltage too high” and “Accelerator switch circuit [ABS switch]” and “wheel rear input signal.” On 11/28/22, brought car to Laguna Niguel Hyundai to address the ‘check engine light’ that was on. Service manager said “battery was not corresponding with the engine”, something about “HECU” and how it’s needed to “check brake reservoir for fluid – so I should pump it due to air bubble inside.” On 6/12/23, was driving more than 70mph; began losing speed, down to 0 mph. Stepping on gas did nothing. Drifted toward side of road & got alarm sound and message on dashboard, “Hybrid System Failure.” Terrified. No control of vehicle, 4 passengers, stranded. Towed to La Quinta. Notes on Hyundai La Quinta invoice: “VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN SCANNED CODES P1B25 HIGH VOLTAGE PATH FAULT; P1B77 HIGH VOLTAGE PRECHARGE FAULT; POWER RELAY ASSEMBLY FALUTY SAFETY PLUG ASSEMBLY ARE FAULTY.” Notes also said BATTERY REPLACEMENT: BATTERY FAILED TEST Caused by BATTERY FAILED LOAD TEST. On 7/31, “HYBRID WARNING MESSAGE” returned. Alarm sound, grinding brakes – car undriveable. Towed for service. Invoice: “Caused by LOW BATTERY STATE OF HEALTH 53%. RECHARGE BATTERY TO 100% AND CLEAR DTC AND ROAD TEST.” While 7/31 work was covered under warranty, felt unsafe. Why battery health poor, when it was replaced 6 weeks before? Then came 8/30. Car disabled. Alarm sound & message says, “Hybrid System Warning! Safety Stop and Do not Drive.” Service manager said “hydraulic power unit failure”.

Im not aware what is malfunctioning or failing but I get a warning to not drive the vehicle and I start hearing a beeping sound, when I try to break it makes a harsh screeching sound and tugs the car a bit. It’s putting my safety at risk bc I drive for work and I can’t keep having this problem happen on the freeway. I’m afraid my brakes will fail and not break. Idk what the cause to this is, I’ve had two different mechanics take a look at this and no codes pop up. No warnings pop up either. This has been going on for almost 3 months. I can’t drive this vehicle with this problem and it’s the only one I rely on for work and my everyday needs. If you guys can please help me out or look into it I will be waiting for a response. Thank you

While driving normally on the highway I received the "Hybrid Safety Warning: Do Not Drive!" error. The engine began sputtering uncontrollably, the brakes weren't fully responsive and I lost power steering. Thankfully I was able to coast down the road and pull over. If this had happened in traffic I can't imagine an accident would not have happened. Not being able to brake safely or steering properly while your engine is sputtering out of control is terrifying and a MAJOR mistake in design and implementation.

I have a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, when I get in and press the brake pedal it is hard to push in and the car won't start till I try to pump the break pedal hard several times till it gives just a bit, then I can start the car up. I know there was a recall for the 2011 and 2012 cars, this report mimics the issue those cars have had a recall for. Once the car starts the brake pedal does work normally, till it sits and then it gets hard to push in again. I took the car to the dealer to be looked at and they wanted to keep it for a week before anyone would look at it, with $200 to start . I couldn't be without a car for that long so they didn't keep it.There were no warning lights and never have been. My fear is that the brakes will fail while driving..

My vehicle stopped on the side of the road in oncoming traffic and caused a back up because of my power brake system failing when it should have still been in good condition because I had just purchased my vehicle 7 months ago. The brake light came on made my car slow all the way down doesn’t go over 15 mph and has a skidding sound when braking and it happened again in the street away from home. And this has been seen in multiple vehicles such as the one I have.

I turn off the ignition and start car again, then no error.Went to a local mechanic to check codes he can not find anything. This is a serious issue to taken care off as if brakes fail on highway, we may cause an accident. Then I search in google and lot of discussions going around the same incident

From the time of my purchase of the car used in 2016 I noticed the the brake would sometimes make a squeaking sound if the brake pedal was depressed suddenly. In September of 2021 I noticed that a Brake Warning light would come on when starting the car. Sometimes the brake pedal would push to the floor as if there was no brake fluid pressure. I took the car to the Hyundai dealer and asked them to inspect and repair the problem. The problem was determined to be the ABS Pump along with the ABS Assembly. The units were replaced at a cost of $908.91. Later in June of 2022 the noise returned and the brake light again began to light. I didn't lose brakes but the light remained on whenever the vehicle was operating. I returned to the same dealer service shop and they inspected the problem and found DTC C1236. They checked pressure and it had 1054 Bar (needs to be 1000 Bar).The technician replaced the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit and installed a Hybrid Noise Fix Kit. The cost for these repairs was $3351.15. I am aware of problems with other Hyundai model cars brakes. I hope that our car is safe to operate or park. The dealer confirmed the problems for both repair instances. I do not know if any other authorities have inspected this. I don't have the defective parts. The dealer service center retained them after both repairs.

April 2,2022 I took my car in for an oil change. Immediately after leaving the car smoked as if it was on fire. I was pulled over by Walls Mississippi police department because they thought the car was on fire. I contacted Hyundai. They have not done anything to fix this situation. I have not been able to drive the car since then. It needed oil a week after the oil change April 2,2022. It smokes very bad. It has lost power. The engine knocks. I had to get a rental car at the rate of $1000 for a 3 week rental. My car note is $578. The car was repossessed today because Hyundai would not fix the car so I could go to work and pay my car note. I have numerous emails and receipts. No one helped me at Hyundai. They are making us pay our carnotes. Pay rental fees out of pocket. They only reimburse you for your rental once your car goes into the shop. All Hyundai dealerships have a 2 month wait time before they will let you bring the car in,otherwise it will sit on the lot for 2 months. I have tried 5 times since 2021 until now to get the recalls done. Hyundai Mt. Mariah Memphis kept the car a week and asked me to come get it because they did not have all the parts to complete the recalls. Hyundai Olive Branch Mississippi stated they have a 2 to 3 month wait time as well. No one has loaner cars. I explained this to the claim person Julia at Hyundai and no one did anything to fix this.

3 months after purchasing this Vehicle from a notorious car company, I have noticed while driving on the Highway that a hybrid system warning message has popped on my dash board with the check brakes light blinking and beeping. The car then started slowing down with the brakes not functioning anymore. The car is only usable again after you shut it off, wait for few minutes and turn it back on. After several investigations by a Hyundai dealer, it turns out the defective part is a Hybrid Power Unit of HPU.

The first time this happened I had just parked in front of my house and put the car into Park when I heard a chiming sound coming from the car, and the message Check Brake followed by Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive on the dashboard. I did not drive the car for severals after this. After that, I started the car with no issues and was able to drive it with no issues but 4 days later I got the same message while out driving, I stepped on the brake and heard a grinding noise and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I pulled over, stop the engine, turned off the ignition, waited a couple of minutes afterwhich the car started with no issue and I was able to drive home. Today I took it to Hyundai garage for the service dept to take a look at it. I am waiting to hear back.

I was driving in a school zone going 10 MPH and a warning flashed saying "Check Brake" then "Hybrid System Warning! Safely stop and do not drive" The brakes then locked up and the steering wheel became very stiff. I was able to pull over and turn the car off. I turned it back on and the warning was gone. However, the issue continued a couple weeks later and would not reset to a drivable condition, this prompted my husband to take the vehicle to Sterling Acura of Austin to be maintenance. The Power Brake Booster was replaced but the warning still appears sporadically, just long enough to read and then turns off.

While driving the Warning in my dash appeared Check Brake Hybrid System Warning safely stop and do not drive. The front brakes sounded like they were rubbing against my tire. I stopped the car. Pushed emergency brake off and on (I’ve never had to use this before) turned car back on and it stopped. I’m worried it will happen again.

WHAT SEEMS TO BE RANDOM AND WITHOUT PROVOCATION, THE CAR WILL SOUND A BEEPING ALARM THAT ONLY SOUNDS ON THE INTERIOR, IT WILL DEACTIVATE THE ACCELERATOR (BASICALLY PUTS THE CAR IN NEUTRAL), AND WILL DISPLAY A WARNING MESSAGE THAT READS "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING! SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE. CHECK BRAKE". NO MATTER WHAT SPEED THE CAR IS TRAVELING AT, IT CAN UNDERGO THIS PROBLEM. IF BRAKES ARE APPLIED DURING THIS ISSUE, IT WILL SOUND AS IF THE BRAKES ARE GRINDING AND ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE ISSUE CAN ONLY BE RESOLVED BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE, AND RESTARTING IT. IF THIS IS DONE, THE CAR IS BACK TO 'NORMAL' FUNCTION. IT HAS CERTAINLY BEEN A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT HAS DONE IT MULTIPLE TIMES IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHER RATES OF SPEED, AND THE CAR STALLS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS FOUND NO ISSUE AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS, AND SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY THE ISSUE OVERALL. I WOULD ESTIMATE THIS EXACT ISSUE HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 20 TIMES, PERIODICALLY, OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS.

MOMENTS LATER SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE PRESENT COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. WATER WAS USED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER (FIVE STAR HYUNDAI 650 RUSSELL PKWY, WARNER ROBINS, GA 31088) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT YET CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. INVALID VIN.

BOTTOM LINE IS I HAD BRAKES PUT ON IN MAY 2020 ON MY 2014 HYUNDAI, THEY DIDN'T FEEL RIT., TOOK CAR BACK, TEST RIDE, SEEMED OK. THESE BRAKES WERE MANUFACTURED BY WAGNER BRAKES.; .FOR A FEW WEEKS WHEN I PRESSED ON BRAKES THERE WAS A SQUEAL, WHILE CAR WAS MOVING, AND LATELY SOUNDED LIKE STEEL ON STEEL. WHILE CARE WAS MOVING TOOK CAR BACK TO JTIRES PLUS, BRAKES WERE DEFECTIVE, THEY REPLACED THEM WITH DURALAST GOLD BRAKES. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS AGAINST WAGNER BRAKES, AND I'D LIKE A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THESE BRAKES. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE RECALL ON MY 2014 SONATA POWER TRAIN/GEAR SHIFT; CAMPAIGN # 123. THIS WAS COMPLETED IN 2017; HOWEVER, SOME MONTHS AGO ONCE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS IN PART WITH MOTOR OFF, AND I TURNED ON THE MOTOR THE SHIFT WOULD NOT MOVE FROM THE PARK POSITION. I HAD TO WORK WITH IT A WHILE; SOMETIMES AFTER A WHILE I WOULD PUT THE KEY. NEXT TO THE SHIFT COMPARTMENT AND I COULD SHIFT THE GEAR. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SHIFT GEAR AND HOW TO HAVE A SECOND RECALL ON CAMPAIGN 123. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS SOMETIMES WHEN I PUT ON THE E BRAKE, IT SEEMS LIKE THE CAR WOULD TAKE TOO LONG TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE OTHER DAY AFTER BEING PARKED, I TURNED ON THE ENGINE, PUT THE GEAR IN REVERSE, BUT IT CONTINUED TO GO FORWARD. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART IT AND THEN PUT IT IN REVERSE BEFORE IT REVERSED. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU'VE RECEIVED COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS AND I AM REQUESTING THAT MY CAR BE TESTED FOR THE AFOREMENTIONED PROBLEMS FREE OF CHARGE DUE TO ALL OF THE RECALLS HYUNDAI HAS HAD IN THE PAST. DRIVING IN LIGHT RAIN ON NORMAL PAVEMENT ST LOUIS COUNTY. APPROACHED STOP SIGN AT END OF STEEP HILL. APPLIED BRAKES LIGHTLY AND WELL IN ADVANCE BUT CAR WAS NOT STOPPING. REALIZED THAT ENGINE HAD STOPPED SO NOTHING WAS WORKING. CAR BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AS IF BRAKES WERE TRYING TO GRAB. FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION - FORTUNATELY NOBODY WAS IN FRONT OF US ARE ATTEMPTING TO CROSS INTERSECTION IN OTHER DIRECTION. CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. TRIED TO RESTART BUT NOTHING. HAD TO MOVE CAR SO TRIED TO START AGAIN - STARTER DID NOT CRANK AT ALL, BUT SUDDENLY ENGINE WAS RUNNING AS IF IT HAD NEVER STOPPED AND ALL POWER WAS RESTORED. DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO DEALER THINKING IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH ENGINE RECALL. WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY WITH NO INCIDENT. AFTER 3 DAYS OF BEING AT DEALER WE WERE TOLD THAT SOMETHING IN THE BRAKE FLUID "MODULE" HAD BROKEN LOSE AND BRAKE FLUID LEAKED INTO WIRE HARNESS CAUSING EXTREME CORROSION. THEY BELIEVE THE ENGINE NEVER ACTUALLY STOPPED RUNNING, BUT RATHER THE ELECTRICAL SIGNAL WAS MOMENTARILY INTERRUPTED DUE TO THE CORROSION. IT WAS GOING TO BE A $5000 FIX. WE DID NOT HAVE CAR REPAIRED. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD SEND IT TO AUCTION. THIS CAR MUST TO BE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AS IT IS A HAZARD TO ANYONE WHO PURCHASES IT, EVEN "AS IS". I PURCHASED A CAR FROM TOYOTA OF HOLLYWOOD IN MARCH OF 2019. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE THE DEALER KEPT VEHICLE FOR 1 DAY TO MAKE SERVICE REPAIRS TO THE BRAKES. I BRANG VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN APRIL OF 2019 BECAUSE OF NOISES BEING HEARD FROM CAR ( BRAKE NOISES, ROCKY NOISES, WATER RUSHING FORWARD) BUT WAS TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT NOISES WERE NORMAL. I BRANG VEHICLE BACK TO DEALERSHIP IN AUGUST OF 2019 AT 8AM BECAUSE OF ADDITIONAL NOISES BEING HEARD FROM CAR (EXPLAINED TO EMPLOYEE) BUT WAS TOLD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I CALLED AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE SAME MORNING AT 9AM. CAR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH MULTIPLE ISSUES ( BRAKES, ROTORS, AXLE). MANAGEMENT (RAY AND MICHAEL ) MADE THE DECISION TO HOLD MY CAR WITHOUT CONSENT DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES. IT HAS BEEN HELD WITHOUT MY CONSENT SINCE FRIDAY, AUGUST 30TH 2019. BID PATROL WAS CALLED BY MANAGERS BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WANT TO SPEAK WITH ME OR RELEASE MY VEHICLE AND ASKED THE PATROL THAT I LEAVE PREMISES WITHOUT MY CAR. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP BY PHONE, EMAIL AND AN IN PERSON VISIT( WITH POLICE ESCORT) BUT HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL IN OBTAINING MY VEHICLE. VISITED DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND WITH A POLICE ESCORT AND WAS NOT ALLOWED ON PREMISES. MANAGER WOULD NOT SPEAK TO ME, WOULD NOT RELEASE VEHICLE AND REQUESTED I CONTACT SERVICE MANAGER MICHAEL. THE SERVICE MANAGER DID NOT RESPOND TO ANY OF MY CALLS, VOICEMAILS OR EMAILS THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. ON FRIDAY,SEPTEMBER 6TH 2019 I MADE ANOTHER IN PERSON VISIT( WITH POLICE ESCORT BECAUSE MANAGERS DID NOT WANT ME ON PREMISES) AND MANAGERS DID NOT WANT TO SPEAK WITH ME. AN EMPLOYEE WAS SENT IN PLACE OF MANAGER TO SPEAK WITH ME AND I WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN MY VEHICLE BUT NONE OF THE SAFETY ISSUES WERE FIXED( BRAKES, ROTORS, AXLE). I WAS GIVEN DOCUMENTS I DID NOT WANT TO SIGN BUT SIGNED ONLY TO GET MY VEHICLE RELEASED TO ME.

2014 HYUNDAI SONATA WAS DROPPED OFF TO NEARBY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR SCHEDULED RECALL APPOINTMENT CAMPAIGNS 180, 953, 160, 162, AND 946 ON 04/24/2019. DEALERSHIP COMMUNICATED TO ME ALL RECALL INSPECTIONS WERE MADE, AND NO FURTHER REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS TO THE CAR WAS NEEDED AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30AM ON 04/24/2019. CAR WAS THEN PICKED UP THROUGH THE SALES DEPARTMENT AT MY EARLIEST CONVENIENCE ON 04/25/2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 7:00PM. AFTER DRIVING 9 MILES ON A 55MPH STREET, MY CAR LOST IMMEDIATE ACCELERATION/POWER CAUSING THE SPEED TO REDUCE WITHOUT WARNING, AND WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS ACTIVATED (WITNESS TO THIS IS THE INDIVIDUAL WHO DROVE ME TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP THE CAR, AND WAS CURRENTLY DRIVING BEHIND ME AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT). AFTER IMMEDIATE LOSS OF ACCELERATION/POWER (THE CAR WAS MOVING AT 55MPH), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN BLINKING. THE CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY MOVED OFF THE ROAD, AND A BURNING SMELL WAS DETECTED AFTER REMOVING MYSELF FROM THE VEHICLE. AS THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNAVAILABLE, THE SALES DEPARTMENT FROM WHO GAVE ME MY CAR WE'RE UNABLE TO PROPERLY ASSIST ME WITH RECEIVING A TOW BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER CAR FOR THE CARS INABILITY TO BE DRIVEN. AT APPROXIMATELY 8:50PM, A TOW ARRIVED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO HYUNDAI'S DEALERSHIP IN WHICH THE RECALL INSPECTIONS AND CAMPAIGNS WERE PERFORMED. DEALERSHIP APPROVED A RENTAL FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY, YET UNAVAILABLE/UNABLE TO BE APPROVED UNTIL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT RE-OPENED. CURRENTLY, THE DEALERSHIP HAS ME IN A RENTAL CAR THROUGH ENTERPRISE, COVERING THE COST EXCEPT FOR $1.00 A DAY (WHICH IS TO BE PAID BY ME). MORE SO, AS THIS IS NOT MY CAR, AN ADDITIONAL COVERAGE CHARGE OF $9.00 PER DAY WAS REQUIRED TO INSURE ME COVERAGE IN THE EVENT THE RENTAL IS INVOLVED IN AN UNEXPECTED ACCIDENT. AS OF 04/28/2019, I AM WAITING TO HEAR AN UPDATE FROM THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT MY CAR.

ESC LIGHT AND HARD BRAKING ISSUE(ABS MODULE?): ESC LIGHT TURNS ON AND THE CAR APPLIES HARD BRAKES WITHOUT ANY ACTION FROM THE DRIVER WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD OR FREEWAY (NOT WHILE TURNING). SOMETIMES, THE ESC LIGHT DOESN'T TURN ON BUT THE BRAKES STILL GET APPLIED WHILE IN MOTION WITHOUT ANY ACTION FROM DRIVER. IT HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES SO FAR - 2 OF THOSE WHILE DRIVING AT MORE THAN 60MPH ON FREEWAY BUT WAS FORTUNATE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. ONE INSTANCE OF THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY BUT WITH ENGINE RUNNING (AT A PARKING LOT). AS YOU COULD SEE, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE PUTTING US IN DANGER WITHOUT ANY PRIOR INDICATION OR NO KNOWN RESOLUTION. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER SERVICE CENTER BUT THEY CANNOT FIND THE ROOT CAUSE YET. THEY HAVE ALREADY TRIED REPLACING BRAKE SWITCH BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. I HAVE FILED A CASE WITH HYUNDAI DIRECTLY TOO AND WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM.

I WAS JUST ENTERING THE CITY SLOWING FROM A 55 MPH ZONE TO A 45 COMING UP TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE TO RELEASE THE CRUISE CONTROL, AS I SLOWED DOWN WITH MY FOOT STILL BREAKING THEN RELEASED THE BRAKE THE CRUISE TRIED TO REACTIVATE. I PRESSED THE BRAKE AGAIN AND RELEASED AND AGAIN THE CRUISE FEATURE TRIED TO ACCELERATE. I DID NOTICE THAT THE 'SET' LIGHT WAS OFF AS IT DOES WHEN YOU BRAKE BUT THE CRUISE WAS STILL TRYING TO SPEED UP WHEN BRAKE RELEASED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW, IT HAS A LITTLE OVER 95K MILES, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE. I CAME TO A STOP AT THE LIGHT AT WHICH TIME WHEN I RELEASED THE BRAKE IT WAS NOT TRYING TO SELF-ACTIVATE. ESPECIALLY COMING INTO CITY TRAFFIC THIS WAS VERY CONCERNING.

WE CONTACTED 911. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. THIS CAR HAD VARIOUS RECALLS, ALL DEEMED 'RESOLVED' BY HYUNDAI. THEY DID EXTEND THE WARRANTY DUE TO THE KNOWN ISSUES. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO THEM DAILY AND HAVE NOT HEARD BACK.

THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED, BUT THE AXLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I ALSO REACHED OUT TO HYUNDAI AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THERE ARE NO RECALLS, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND BECAUSE THEY ARE UNABLE TO RECREATE OR DO NOT HAVE ANY RECALLS, THEN I AM STUCK WITH A LEMON CAR. THE SECOND ISSUE I HAVE BEEN FACING (WHICH HAS BEEN ONGOING) IS THE SENSOR IN MY GAS TANK RECOGNIZES MY TANK AS "FULL" WHEN I FILL UP WITH GAS BUT THIS IS NOT INDICATED ON THE GAS HAND READOUT. AGAIN, THIS WAS BROUGHT TO HYUNDAI'S ATTENTION AND BECAUSE THEY CAN'T "SEE IT", "RECREATE IT" AND THERE ARE NO "RECALLS", THEN THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. AGAIN, THIS IS ANOTHER SAFETY HAZARD AS I MAY THINK I HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF GAS IN MY CAR WHEN IN REALITY I DO NOT. THE FIRST ISSUE OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY. THE FIRST TIME I WAS AT HOME, THE SECOND TIME I WAS AT WORK AND THE LAST TIME (MOST RECENT) I WAS AT A RESTAURANT. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF BOTH ISSUES ARE SENSORS WITH THE BREAK THAT CONNECTS IT TO THE PUSH BUTTON AND A SENSOR IN THE TANK THAT CONNECTS IT TO THE GAS HAND. THE GAS HAND ISSUES OCCURS EACH TIME I PUT GAS IN MY CAR.

HAVE DRIVEN SO MANY OTHER BRANDS OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS IN HEAVY RAIN ON THE SAME FREEWAY WITHOUT AN INCIDENT. THE CAR CANNOT HANDLE FREEWAY SPEEDS AND BECAME VERY UNSTABLE. COULD BE DEFECTIVE TIRES, THEIR TECHNOLOGY CONTROLLING THE WET TRACTION WHICH CAUSED HYDROPLANING ETC FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS IN PROXIMITY ELSE COULD HAVE BEEN A BIGGER ACCIDENT.

100 % BRAKE FAILURE. 40 MPH,HEAVY TRAFFIC, CLEAR SKY, DRY PAVEMENT AND APPROACHING RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. STEPPED ON BRAKE PEDAL, PEDAL FLUTTERED AS IF ANTI LOCKING BRAKE ACTIVITY WAS BE ACTIVATED. CAR CONTINUED TO FREE WHEEL FORWARD, I STEPPED HARDER ON BRAKE PEDAL AND PEDAL BEGAN PUSHING BACK TO ME. THE HARDER I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL THE MORE IT PUSHED BACK - THERE WAS NO BRAKING ACTION. VEHICLE: 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA SE 2.0T SEDAN DETAILS OF INCIDENT: INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE IN PARKING LOT. PARKING SPOT: PERPENDICULAR PARKING (PARK BETWEEN PAINTED LINES) CURB, SHRUBBERY AND WALL IN FRONT OF SPOT (IN THAT ORDER). APPROACHED PARKING SPOT, TOWARD FRONT OF PARKING SPOT APPLIED BRAKE. UPON APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD --- FELT LIKE IT WAS FLYING --- WENT FORWARD AND OVER THE CURB AND STOPPED IN THE SHRUBBERY BEFORE THE WALL (DID NOT HIT THE WALL). SEAT BELT PREVENTED INJURY (HEAD MOVEMENT ONLY). FYI, NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT (GIVEN SITUATION I WOULD NOT EXPECT DEPLOYMENT).
