i've had my 2015 hyundai sonata now for A year. i took it to the hyundai place to have recalls on the security fixed. and told them about the valve cover gasket leaking. they said they fixed it. however every since i took it to the dealership i have had nothing but problems. my car makes a rattling noise when i accelerate, i smell a strong gas smell occasionally at random times but always while driving. my driver brake light has never worked, my driver headlight keeps blowing, my airbag light is now coming on randomly, my car has a bag vibration while going down the road, when i let off the gas it stops and i have replaced tires and still it won't go away no matter what i have done to fix it , and there has been many times after i return home the smell of something burning as off something is on fire is coming from my car. i have even been in panick thinking something today home was on fire but the smell was coming from my car. and others have even stated they smelled it as well. i've already taken out two loans to fix the valve cover gasket and the fuel pump filter, i can not keep taking out loans to fix problems that appears to be problems from the manufacturer and same problems others have had due to malfunctioning issues. i have children that ride in my car, i would hate for someone to get hurt or worse bc of manufacturing problems. then hyundai would have a bigger problem on their hands.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata has a defective engine. The motor failed unexpectedly even though the car has low usage and has always been maintained properly. I was informed that many Hyundai engines from these years came with manufacturing issues, and mine appears to be one of them.

While I was driving at approximately 55mph, a loud clank happened and the car stalled, and smoke started pouring out of the hood and through the vents into the cabin, and I was leaving burning pieces behind on the road. I pulled over, ran to the back to get my dogs out of their crash tested kennels in the backseat, and both rear doors & passenger front door were locked. I ran up front to unlock them, and the unlock button did not work. I tried the unlock on the keys and it did not work. Due to having a recommended crash safe kennel set up it was not possible to crawl into the back to open it from the inside. My dogs were trapped in a car that was filled with smoke and on fire for over 2 minutes while I debated breaking the windows. I managed to fish a wire into the back to unlock and pull the door open from the inside of the back doors. The car stopped burning but was still smoking for several minutes after & I was able to clear the smoke to make it safe for my dogs to wait for a tow. When the mechanic looked at it he said the engine blew up due to the rod shattering into the block, destroying the entire engine and spilling oil which lit on fire. Mechanic recommended I contact Hyundai for engine replacement as this was a known issue with other 2015 Hyundai sonatas which were recalled due to risk of a defect rod knock causing the rod to shatter causing high speed stalling. Hyundai says my engine was not included in that specific recall. I included photo of the shattered rod which fell out when the mechanic lifted the vehicle

The engine light started to come on and go off and when I got the codes ran, it said something along the line of misfire. I had the spark plugs changed and I kept regular maintenance done on oil changes and tune ups. Now my engine is knocking and the vehicle is in limp mode.

On [XXX], my 2015 Hyundai Sonata experienced a sudden and complete loss of power while driving at highway speed on [XXX] in Sarasota, FL. There were no warning lights, error messages, or abnormal performance indicators prior to the failure. Within minutes of losing power, smoke began to enter the cabin, followed by visible flames from the engine compartment. I pulled over, exited the vehicle, and called 911. The fire fully engulfed the vehicle and destroyed personal property inside, including my late father’s ashes. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) The incident caused significant emotional distress and has resulted in a PTSD diagnosis. The sudden nature of the failure and rapid spread of the fire suggest a critical defect in the vehicle’s engine or related components. I believe this represents a serious safety hazard to other Hyundai owners and the public. Documentation, photographs, and insurance/fire reports are available.

The car has had an electrical issue ever since taking to to get a recall around may of 2023. It will randomly brake and shift the transmission badly while downshifting. I feel as if my make and model falls under the theta II campaign they had to replace certain engines for having a knocking rod be fault and release shaving into the engine causing it to misfire. Not only that but the electrical issue is completely random it happens atleast once or twice a week. It had began ever since I took it for a recall, and when I took it back they found no issue and left food in the back of my car and the chairs leaned back. This was the Fontana Hyundai dealership

The contact stated that the instrument cluster displayed a black screen. In addition, the contact stated several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact stated that an unknown recall repair for the ECM software update was performed; however, the software update failed to fix the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle remained at the dealer for four months without being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 140,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while her son was driving the vehicle at approximately 65 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to steer. The contact stated that the driver pulled to the side of the road. The contact stated after the driver turned off and restarted the vehicle several times, the steering wheel responded as needed. The contact stated that the message "Power Steering Fault" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the loss of power steering assist was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V325000(Steering, Electrical System). The contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the electric power steering assist motor and unknown related parts needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V325000(Steering, Electrical System); however, the dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

My steering rack had to be replaced at less than 55,000 miles. I asked the dealer if this was covered under warranty and they said no. I was charged $4,800 for this repair. I contacted Hyundai USA and they refused to cover the repair. I then realized that I had received a letter from Hyundai stating my car had the extended warranty of 15 years/150m miles for this exact repair. I am on the phone with Hyundai now and they are still refusing to cover this repair, even though they sent me the letter stating my car has this extended warranty. My car is available for inspection upon request. Yes, my safety and the safety of others was put at risk, my power steering would intermittently go out while turning. Yes, my car was inspected twice, once in 2023 and again in May of 2025. Repairs were done in May. I was told this was not covered under warranty but I have an extended warranty from Hyundai for this exact problem. That extended warranty is for 15 years/150m miles. Yes, the occurrence in 2025 threw a code of C168708 - CAN time out VSM (MDPS) and C1814 - CAN message failure SAS.

I was driving and when turning into a parking lot, I accelerated and the vehicle stalled. It did not go suddenly when accelerating. A couple days later, I use a code reader and have a code listed as P1326. So I take it for a diagnostic at a local shop and I am told it is the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS). I was advised to take it to a Hyundai dealer because often these vehicles have manufacture warranty since there’s recalls. There have been some vehicles under this recall Hyundai put out as Service Campaign 966 or 982. They have had vehicles deal with this sensor issue before. Hence why there is a campaign issued. I review to see if there are any recalls on my vehicle and tare none but there are other models listed for this particular issue for Hyundai vehicles. My vehicle was driving fine and it’s fairly new. Low miles then suddenly this happened without warning. I believe it is a recall issue for this model as well.

On 03/14 I was driving down the road the with the sunroof open the wind flap suddenly went to flying making a loud sound I pulled over and saw that it was loose and hanging I went to press the button to attempt to close it and it semi closed. I went and had it looked at and was told that it was broken and could not be closed and needed to be replaced I was told it was a common issue with Hyundais and to contact the company

For about a month now the power steering was going in and out and then just the other day, the power steering went completely out, I am now having it towed to the dealership today 02/11/2025. I've also had oil consumption problems to the point where there is only 1 quart of oil left in the engine when getting the oil changed, had the combustion cleaning done and no help. Hyundai said no to a new engine, car only has 102,000 miles on it, only 10 years old and Hyundai hasn't helped a bit, said that I would have to come out of pocket but I ended up having to spend $600 on the cleaning, which is absurd.

The Charging system malfunctioned twice. The car is available for inspection upon request. I am not sure if it may put me at risk but it does give the directive to stop the car. I have taken the car to Hyundai the first day it malfunctioned and explained the charging system malfunction. Hyundai only completed any known recalls. My car has never had any warning lights to come on until the charging system began to malfunction.

I took the car for 4 recalls it had 2 of which were physical and the other two were software according to them. Took the car back to drop someone off, turned it off and then on; it began losing and breaking on its own at slow rpm’s slamming on the breaks. a minute later after having turned the corner I turned on my hazards and it had continued to randomly happen to the car. It is not consistent it is completely random and I have had a mechanic only inspect it while it happened once because I’ve only been able to have it happen while being inspected out of luck . I’ve gotten several error codes to the car since from p04 misfires. Evap leaks etc. the car was in pitch perfect condition and after that day it has since stopped working properly . I have photos of the mechanics that day even leaving food in the back of my car as if they just relaxed and didn’t do their job as professional as it could’ve have been . They denied anything is wrong with the car and have offered me discounted inspections after claiming nothing was wrong they gave me one free inspection and I haven’t gone back . My engine or censors are messed up. It puts my health and others at safety because it slams on the breaks unknowingly and randomly at low RPMs. The manufacturer has inspected my car and claimed it was okay although they unprofessionally left food and ate breakfast and left trash in the back. (With photo proof) . Last there was NO issues whatsoever with my car until that day. Never had a misfire . Never had a engine light . Never had a popped tire . It all began they DAY I got my car back not even an hour later. I could not return that day because it was near closing time of the dealership and the day after I went they denied it has been tampered. This happened around the beginning of July 1-8th 2023.

The air bag sensor located in the front passenger seat does not function. It is available for inspection upon request. Because the sensor doesn't engage, the passenger-side air bag will not deploy in the event of an accident, leaving my passenger at risk of serious injury or death. The Hyundai of Cool Springs dealership in Franklin, TN, has inspected the car and confirmed that the sensor is not functioning. The sensor, if properly working, will show a glowing red light on the dashboard that goes on when a passenger sits in the passenger seat, and goes off after a few seconds. In the case of my car, however, the dashboard light goes on when a passenger sits and stays on (glowing red) the entire time the passenger is seated. This defective dashboard light, according to the Hyundai service technician, indicates that the sensor needs to be replaced. The cost the technician quoted is prohibitive at $3,500.

I was driving on the highway and my engine violently started to shake and I pulled onto the shoulder and the engine shut off. I’ve had oil leak and engine problems with this car for 2 and a half out of 3 years! I’ve had to buy countless gallons of oil. Multiple spark plugs, coil packs, etc. You can’t drive the car for one whole minute without it stalling in traffic and almost causing accidents. So I can’t drive it!

On June 30, 2024 I was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata and the car caught on fire. There were no warning lights/ dash indicators/ no check engine lights or other warnings present. I had just exited the highway and while sitting at a light, smoke began emanating from the hood and within seconds the smoke turned dark brown at the vents near the windshield. I immediately exited out of the vehicle. I did not have time to pull over out of traffic. The car was engulfed in flames within a very short period of time. I had only seconds to exit the car. I would have struggled to get any passengers out of the backseat safely (i.e. kids in car seats) had I not been the only one in the car at the time. We had notified Hyundai of engine concerns that began in 2023, and they had given us the runaround for many months requiring us to submit paperwork for oil changes for the lifetime of the car and to keep returning to the dealership for "testing" after driving a certain # of miles. They required us to bring the car in to have pictures of the engine taken to ensure there wasn't "neglect" to the car on our part. This excessive and lengthy process by Hyundai took several months after initial concerns were brought up with the dealer. After being required to submit voluminous amount of paperwork and several trips to the dealership for "testing", Hyundai finally agreed to replace the faulty engine. We were told we could continue to drive it until a new engine was ordered. The new engine was scheduled to be replaced on July 11, 2024 however, the car burst into flames on June 30, 2024. Had Hyundai taken appropriate action when the issue was first brought to their attention, this incident would have likely been avoided and had not endangered my life and others helping. Thank you for your attention to this incident.

My engine does not hold oil and it leaks constantly after 20 days of driving I have to get oil change every 30 days. I have repaired this leak on several times by the professionals and it still leaks and locks up my engine due to low oil.

In April 2023, I purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco from Carvana with 56,000 miles. By May 2023, the mileage was around 72,000. While driving from South Houston to North Houston on [XXX], 2023, the car loudly popped as I exited the highway around 5:00 pm CST. I noticed smoke coming from the rear and parked in a construction zone near a convenience store. Upon inspection, the vehicle stopped working, and I saw a significant fluid leak underneath. A bystander alerted me to flames from the bottom and under the hood. I called 911, and the fire department arrived to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries or property damage. I later discovered that specific 2011–2015 Hyundai models had been recalled due to fire risk (NHTSA ID: 23V-651000), but this did not include the Hyundai Sonata Eco. The recall was due to the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module leaking brake fluid internally, potentially causing an electrical short and leading to a fire. I have photos and videos documenting the incident. Following the incident, I filed a claim with Travelers Insurance, and on May 28th, 2023, the vehicle was declared a total loss. While I appreciate their offer of ~$13,000, it is insufficient to cover the remaining loan balance of approximately $17,300. I am worried about the financial impact and potential danger I face due to this malfunction. The lack of information highlights the need for better consumer education. I am now looking into options to cover the remaining loan balance, acquire a new vehicle, and, most importantly, advocate for improved driver education regarding this defect. My 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport with 63k miles does not show any open recalls relating to fires however, my car was parked, went to turn it on, smelled an electrical smell and white smoke began billowing out of the engine. Within minutes the vehical engine compartment was engulfed in flames. I was able to remove my family from the vehicle and fire department came out to extinguish the vehicle. Thankfully everyone movedthere vehicles and no other vehicles were impacted but insurance has inspected the vehicle and determined it's a total loss as the whole engine compartment is melted. If not for me thinking and the action of others, many others cars could have been burned and my family burned and injured as they are still shook up about. Hyundai offered me a low settlement but there is know recall on the specific VIN for electrical or engine issues. The following weekend I met a guy who just purchased a pre-owned Hyundai and after leaving he stopped at a red light and the vehicle engine compartment went up in flames while parked. There is a larger issue at hand here and please help us investigate this so no one else has to go through this nightmare.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that after the vehicle was at the dealer for a routine oil change and an engine flush, the following day while driving at approximately 10 MPH in a stop-and-go school zone, the vehicle stalled and smoke emitted from underneath the hood. All the warning lights on the instrument panel were illuminated. The contact merged to the shoulder of the road and safely exited the vehicle. The vehicle was engulfed in flames. The police department was at the scene and attempted to extinguish the fire. The fire department later arrived and successfully extinguished the fire. The contact mentioned that the flames consumed the vehicle and only the framing was left but it was not determined destroyed yet. The vehicle was towed. A police report was filed. The VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V749000 ( Exterior Lighting, Electrical System) however the vehicle did not receive the recall remedy prior to the failure. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 161,765.

While driving our vehicle (Hyundai 2015 Sonata Hybrid) around 25 MPH speed in city road... the vehicle stopped completely by itself in few seconds. Got the message "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do not Drive" in dashboard and beep beep sounds. Thank god, no accident, the vehicles behand able to stop and avoid the collision. This is serious SAFETY issue, as this could cause accidents if vehicle stops by itself while driving. This is 3rd time in last few years with this vehicles. The recent incident happened was on 5/1/2024 morning around 8.00 am. We went to the Hyundai Service Center and they did looked at the codes and ran some scans and they found nothing wrong. And they said it could be some wrong system warning and can be ignored, as they can't reproduce the issue. And told us to report if this happens, but the worry is that, if this happens it could be serious life threating accident or injuries. They said they also got similar other Sonata Hybrid got same issue reported same day, but they can't find root cause. Same issue was happened last on 9/30/2022 and one before in that same year. They can't find the root cause that time too. They just updated software that time...and hoped that will fix. But the issue repeated again. While searching on the internet, found many people reporting this same error message and suddenly stopping the vehicle by itself. Very scary safety concern. So that's why we are reporting this to NHTSA. To take action on this with the Hyundai and investigate more. Now worried when we drive this vehicle. I have all pictures taken when this issues happened on 5/1/24 and also 9/30/22. I will share those here. Let me know if you need more information on this.

Car was going approximately 50 miles an hour on a side street when warning lights went on, brakes stopped working, and the engine smoked and appeared to catch on fire. Car was steered into a parking lot and abruptly placed in park. Occupant grabbed valuables and quickly exited the vehicle. At that point, the front of the vehicle, under the hood went up in flames.

My hydraulic brake booster went out, Very dangerous i almost had an accident, the car doesn’t stop, there are no brakes the car would not stop I’f the hydraulic brake booster goes out you have no brakes and if you’re over 50 miles an hour the E break barely does anything it just sounds like you grinding into the ground. Very scary and I had a child in the car. Towed car to Hyundai.

The contact's friend owned a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her friend was driving at 20 MPH, a motorist informed her that there was a fire visible underneath the hood. As her friend opened the driver-side door, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The contact's friend was taken to the hospital where she sustained severe burns to the left side of her body. The contact's friend had her skin grafted from the right side of her body to repair the severe burns sustained to her left thigh and ankle as well as other parts of her body. A police and fire report was filed. The vehicle was completely incinerated due to the failure. The remains of the vehicle were towed to an independent tow yard where it was deemed a total loss. According to the fire report, the fire was caused by an unknown electrical failure malfunction; the source of the failure was undetermined. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was 71,820

Hybrid car with various hybrid system failures that results in sudden loss of power while driving. this has occurred 3 times to me while on the highway (I-75 in South FL). Car suddenly loses power, could not accelerate but I was able to get off the highway safety. This has been reproduced at the dealer and they first replaced the hybrid generator then the hybrid battery and ECM and now it occurred again yesterday while I had 2 children with me and now they blame the transmission. This is a dangerous car that should be recalled and investigated for the true cause of sudden and unpredictable power loss.

The car has had multiple issues with the hybrid system. I’ve taken it to the dealership about 4-5 times. They “fix” the issue but a little while later I’m having more hybrid warming issues. This last time I took it to a different dealership, paid for a diagnostic test, and was told my hybrid system was bad but because it was repaired too many times instead of replacing it, it’s no longer covered under warranty. The issue from the last diagnostic test showed the master brake cylinder was faulty, I replaced it but I’m still having the same issue. The mechanic I took it to did their own diagnostic test and it showed there is an issue with the hydraulic booster, high pressure accumulator short term charge. When I searched the issue, I’ve found that many people are having the same issue with the same car/year as mine. I contacted the manufacturer and they are still not willing to fix it even though it is a possible defect in the car.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata has recently been having both electrical and engine problems. Roughly a month ago, I had my vehicle completely stall in the middle of the highway. I lost power and a bunch of lights came on at once. Thankfully, I was in the right lane so I was able to safely get off the road even though I had many other cars speeding around me. I had no acceleration, I was just cruising off the highway at this point. Thankfully, my brakes did still work. Engine light and a bunch of errors turned on but went away once I pulled off and restarted the vehicle. I pulled off the road and once I decided to try and start it and go again, my car felt like it had hardly any power the whole way home. Fast forward to last weekend, I was driving home and my car would not accelerate. The engine light comes on and this time, my acceleration didn’t completely shut off, I was just very limited. Several times this has happened. I am driving and all of a sudden my car stops and I get a message that says Hybrid System Warning, Safely Stop and Do Not Drive. The car will coast to the side of the road at times and other times it won't. I have taken it to the Holler Hyundai dealer in Winter Park FL and they told me nothing was wrong with it. They had my car for less than an hour. I told them there was no way they could have fixed the issue but they said they did. 2015 Hybrid Sonata, milages at 82,000 km, owned for 8 years. "Hybrid system warning, do not drive" message occurred, car lost 100% of its power, went into complete stop without any warnings on the middle of the highway. Hazard lights do not work and unable to warn incoming traffic that the car has completely stalled in the highway. The car is unsafe to drive. Went to Hyundai (here in Canada) several times, being charged every time for diagnostic and repair works, been told that the issues were fixed via software update. Problem persists. There are compelling evidences from different car forums, websites and NHTSA own database (28 reports under Unknown, 22 reports under Electrical sys. categories...) on the hybrid system failure or/and 100% power lost lead to complete stalled car. Although all these reports did not site any injury, major or death events, NHTSA should compel Hyundai to take appropriate actions to render the car safe to drive for the public because if accidents should happened, it cannot be undone and will affect lives of people. The public relies on a governing body to represent us and hold the manufacturer responsable to ensure that their mkt released products are safe: to save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes.

“Hybrid System Alert” comes up on the dash and the system shuts down, all electrical is lost including HAZARD LIGHTS and the ability to put the car into Neutral. Since the car shuts down Hyundai says they cannot retrieve the code to solve it. It has been happening on and off for over a year and I’ve been stranded on a dark road with no lights on the car and no ability to push it off the road. HYUNDAI IS NOT HELPING! They need to recall these cars as the issue is widespread. The car restarts after a day or so, but in that moment it is not driveable and very unsafe. It’s clearly a flaw, as there’s no code to be found. It needs to be recalled and fixed. AAA has towed me or come out several times and cannot understand the problem.

After taking my car in multiple times to be serviced for a "Hybrid System Warning" mid last year, they were unable to read any error codes or diagnose any issue. I took it to two separate dealerships with no luck fixing the issue. I then completely broke down due to the same "Hybrid System Warning" on the highway on 7/26/22 heading to Pigeon Forge, TN with two children in the car. I had to have my car towed to the closest Hyundai dealership in Knoxville. They were unable to diagnose and fix my car within the timeframe I was in town. Since Hyundai would not provide me with a loaner, I had to get a rental car to get home that I was not reimbursed for. We ended up paying out of pocket to replace the safety plug/fuse and the power relay assembly on 8/9/22. After having the car back for three months, the warning popped up again on 10/18/22 just as it did earlier that same year. I immediately called to schedule a service appointment with Hyundai and had to wait almost four months to get a service appointment here in Cincinnati. The appointment was on 1/26/23 and they have yet to "replicate the issue" so they are unable to diagnose the car. I am supposed to pick up the car this week even though it's a safety hazard. I have had two cases open with Hyundai Customer Affairs but since they cannot diagnose the car, there is nothing they can do. They have been absolutely no help at all.

Alternator tensioner bracket broke, causing the alternator to hang loosely, which caused the car to gradually lose electrical power to all accessories and safety equipment due to the serpentine belt being loose from the broken bracket. During traveling immediately before failure, the battery warning light illuminated on the dash panel, going on and off intermittently. Thereafter, I began losing control of all my electrical safety features, including power steering, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, forward collision warning system, and eventually power to my entire vehicle as the battery was drained of all charge. At the time of events, my family of 4, including a 2 year old and a 10 week old, were all occupants of the vehicle. With the power of the vehicle declining, the power steering was activating/deactivating intermittently causing the car to jerk one way or the other unexpectedly. Had we remained traveling on the highway at highway speeds, our safety would have been greatly compromised from the unexpected power failure to all electrical safety features. The vehicle and fractured tensioner bracket have not been inspected or confirmed by dealer or independent service provider as the vehicle is not drivable. The broken tensioner bracket is apparent and indisputable.

This is the third time this has happened. The car just starts to beep and stops working wherever it is. Its died on the highway and another busy road during rush hour causing a dangerous backup in which the police needed to be called. The car just beeps and flashes on the dash "Hybrid System Warning! Safety Stop and Do not Drive". Also, "check charging system". The car just stops and basically dies on the road when this light comes. When this happens the steering wheel does not really work and the gas/breaks have limited function. This could cause a major accident on a major highway or even off of a highway. I am quite surprised that there has not been a recall for this serious safety concern.

While I was driving, my check engine light came on. It wasn’t flashing so I was going to continue driving to a parts house (because the dealerships around me were closed) and have them check the codes that were present. Immediately after I had that thought, I noticed the car was smoking and the battery light and the traction control light had come on, so I proceeded to pull over and shut the vehicle off. I got out and noticed the hood had soot on the edges. I called 911 and watched the car go up I’m flames. This all happened in less than a mile. I noticed a fluid of some sort had sprayed out of my vehicle onto the road and the underneath the vehicle was coated in the fluid. This is still being investigated but I know of a lot of Hyundai/Kia vehicles have caught on fire while driving. I’m not 100% sure of the cause yet, but I want to document that this did happen to my vehicle. I would love to update as soon as we figure out what has caused the car to catch fire while I was driving.

The contact stated that after having her vehicle serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V749000 (Exterior Lighting, Electrical System) the exterior and interior lights would turn off while driving at various speeds, with the check engine and oil warning lights illuminated. The contact also stated that upon using the turn signals, the headlights would intermittently turn off; however, the headlights would turn on upon toggling the light switch. The contact had initially taken the vehicle back to the dealer where she was given a diagnostic fee to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where she was informed that the E-CVVT actuator was defective. In addition, the contact also stated that the vehicle would hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal or lunge forward upon depression of the brake pedal. The independent mechanic linked the failure to the E-CVVT actuator. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

When auto lights are engaged and the blinkers are engaged, the light will turn off and it will blink in the wrong direction for a few times and then blink the correct direction. While in auto lights and you turn a curve they will sometimes go off. Now I have an issue with my AC - it goes on and off randomly. Had it looked at and they cannot find an issue with the components but said it could be an electrical issue. BYW, Hyundai replaced the motor in this car as well because it had so many issues. I was told the issues now could be caused from them replacing the motor and causing an electrical issue. The paint is also peeling and they had a recall on the paint, but the paint on my car didn't start peeling until after their warranty had expired. This is a known issue with 2015 models - they know the paint is bad but won't fix it. Car manufacturers should be held accountable for what they put on the market, or at least fix what are known issues for multiple vehicles.

While driving on the interstate, the car began to jerk, and then the engine proceeded to rev as if the car needed a power boost to continue performing. The dashboard then said "Hybrid System Warning! Stop and Do Not Drive" and then the car would no longer accelerate and I had to pull over. This was an extremely dangerous and unsafe situation to be in, and unfortunately, the error only presents itself while driving so the mechanics are unable to get a code that clearly defines the issue that needs to be resolved. I have spent numerous hours on forums with complaints from Hyundai Sonata Hybrid owners who had the same issue and have visited various mechanics to fix the issue, only to end up having the issue arise yet again, further endangering their lives on the road. I believe the best solution forward is to take a serious investigation into the issue and issue an open recall so drivers can get the assistance they need to remain safe on the roads.

The powered driver seat returning from a reclined position can get stuck in the recline position for some unknown reason. The seat motor, electrical wiring system and the switch have all been examined and replaced and yet for some unknown reason it continues to occur. Two different mechanics thought it was the switch for the seat being faulty but its been replaced twice and still this issue can occur where the seat after reclining any amount the seat will remain in that recline position for an extended period of time (multiple days) and can if reclined completely, remain in the full reclined position unable to return in the direction so as to raise it to a normal seated position. The seat switch will only recline but will not return back to the seated position to any degree. All of the other swithces and buttons with the drivers side seat continue to remain operational and work even when the seated position direction does not function. To operate a vehicle in the fully reclined position is dangerous as you have no back support while driving, there is also no whiplash protection or support in the event of a collision. It can also impair the drivers ability to reach the pedals or operate the vehicle properly. It also makes the seat behind the driver unusable. Further adding to the danger the seat has no manual options and therefore is unable to be manually returned to the seated position, thus once it is reclined back it remains stuck in that position until the switch begins to function again or the seat is removed. There are no warning lamps or indicators and the seat continues to properly function in the recline direction. Only upon trying to return to a seated position is there any indication of an issue. This has happened at least 3 times in the past year. Repair shops have examined the electrical wiring and the switch and cant seem to keep it from happening

While driving, the following warning appeared: Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do not Drive. The vehicle was turned off and restarted, due to the fact that this same warning appeared in the summer of 2021, where it was towed to the dealer and they were unable to discover any problem. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer this time they found the code P1B70, high voltage battery to low, there was a flash update for the BMS module to correct the issue. My issue is that you do not always have a appropriate spot where you can stop the vehicle and leave it for a tow. Perhaps this flash update should be installed in all 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrids as a recall so as not to leave the drivers in an unsafe condition

While going home on highway 95 at approximately 70 mph. The vehicle stalled almost causing many accidents. Thank goodness I steered it on the shoulder and it will not restart I had to call for a Tow. This was the 3rd time this happened. The first time was approximately a month in 2015 after my purchase it stalled on the highway. Again, in 2017 it once again stalled on the highway while I was driving. The dealership has told me on all 2 previous occasions that they had fixed the problem and it wasn't going to happen again. Here we are in 2022 and it stalled again. Why can't they just replace the engine? This is the second week and my car is still in the dealership which they are saying they don't know what the problem is smh.

Dealership kept car for 1½ weeks and notified me that 1 recall (filter) was not completed because parts are on back order. Dealership had me pick up vehicle and said that it is okay to drive car; however, after calling another Dealership, the Service rep informed me that cars should not be driven while engine filter recalls are open because it could potentially further damage vehicle. Vehicle has now been sitting in my garage for over 2 months and I'm making payments for a car I cannot drive.

We received a notice for an IMPORTANT Safety Recall for our 2015 Hyundai concerning a turn signal malfunction. According to the information given to us, this problem could understandably be very dangerous and life threatening. So we tried to schedule an appointment at our nearest Hyundai dealer, but were told they weren’t even taking appointments until January (So much for taking care of a dangerous situation). This dealer was San Tan Hyundai in Gilbert, AZ! If this repair takes only an hour or so as the notice predicted, I’m wondering why such a delay for an emergency service? We continued to call around and finally scheduled for a Dec. 1st appointment at another dealer. That we can live with, but their is no excuse for a similar dealer not being able to deal with this problem sooner. The person on the call was not very polite, which is par for service it seems now days. Anyway, I think this dealer should be noted in your records in case you receive other complaints. Thank you.

I was driving under normal conditions and every warning indicator light and chime went off, speedometer and tachometer gauges went to zero, digital display of speedometer went blank. I immediately pulled into a parking lot and shifted into park. I called the nearest Hyundai dealer to speak to a service rep, but was told they were busy and would call back. The car would not shift, it was locked in PARK. I turned it off, waited and turned back on, all warning indicators were still flashing, but I was able to shift into drive, and went straight to the dealer. Diagnostics by dealer was that "CEL WAS ON DUE TO HISTORY CODES. CLEARED CODES AND TEST DROVE THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WORKS AS DESIGNED." 200 miles later, same problem. I HAD A SECOND OPTION AT RNR HAMPTON VA WHO ENSURED ME THAT REPLACING EACH TIRE VALVE WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. THEY CHARGED ME 400 ON 9/16/2020 FOR THAT SERVICE WHEN THE CAR WAS PICKED UP THE TPMS SENSOR NEEDED TO RE-SET ITSELF AND DRIVING IT WITH IT WAS FINE - IT WOULD ASK TO PROMPT ME TO RE-SET IT AND / OR DO IT AUTOMATICALLY THE NEXT 24 HOURS - IT DID NOT DO THAT - IT IS JAN 18 2021 I JUST HAD MY DIAGNOSTIC FOR THE TPMS SENSOR FOR THIS 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA AT HALL AUTOMOTIVE THEY ARE SAYING ALL FOUR VALVES AND SOFTWARE THAT THE VALVES PLACED WITH RNR WERE NOT COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI SOFTWARE AND SHOULD OF KNOWN THAT - IT STATES THAT PROHIBITION OF 49 USC 30122 ARE TO BE INTEGRATED AND COMPATIBLE BEFORE PROCEEDING THE DEALERSHIP - RNR AND ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP SHOULD ALL ME ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS 2000 ERROR

THE TECHNICIAN LOOKED AT THE SENSOR AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AGAIN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DID THE T3G CAMPAIGN. YESTERDAY 3/17/20 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON FOR 5 STARTS OF THE ENGINE. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE SYMPTOM ON 3/18/20. THE VEHICLE FAILED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BY 363 MILES AND THE DEALER IS SUBMITTING A CLAIM FOR A NEW ENGINE. I AM EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING. THE STEERING HAS DEAD SPOTS AND FEELS EXTREMELY LOOSE, IT IS VERY STRESSFUL KEEPING THE CAR STRAIT ON THE HIGHWAY AS IT IS ALL OVER THE ROAD. THE STEERING LIGHT COMES ON BUT THE DEALERS ALWAYS TELL ME "WE CAN'T FIND ANY CODES". THERE WAS A LOUD WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS AN "ELECTRICAL" SOUND IN THE FRONT END WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AS THE SERVICE MANAGER AT TAMERON HYUNDAI PUT IT. INSTEAD OF CHECKING THE STEERING THEY PUT STRUTS ON IT, WHICH HAS MADE THE PROBLEM 1000X WORSE NOW THE ALIGNMENT IS OFF WHICH THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIX AND WITH THE STEERING PROBLEMS MAKES IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. WHENEVER IT RAINS THE STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL EITHER STOPS RESPONDING OR BECOMES HARD TO STEER. I PUT NEW TIRES ON IT LESS THAN A YEAR AGO THAT HAVE LESS THAN 10,000 MILES ON THEM AND HAVE ROTATED THEM TWICE AT 5,000 MILES THE ALIGNMENT IS SO BAD THAT ONE TIRE IS NOW BALD! EVERY TIME I GO TO A DEALER THEY REFUSE TO HELP. I'M PUTTING THIS HERE IN CASE I DIE IN THIS CAR! ALSO THE ENGINE HESITATES AND SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN STARTING. THE SHAKING IS WHEN IT IDEALS, BUT ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS IT "PULSES" AND HESITATE WHILE ACCELERATING (I HARDLY GET A CHANCE TO TEST TO SEE HOW BAD THE HESITATION IS BECAUSE THE STEERING IS SO LOSE) I AM NOW FINDING OUT THE 2015 SONATA ENGINE IS EFFECTED BY THE MASSIVE DEFECT THEY HAVE HAD IN 2011- 2014 MODELS BUT ARE NOT MAKING IT PUBLICLY KNOWN. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSIST TO HAVE IT TOWED TO SUPERIOR HYUNDAI SOUTH, WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR.THIS OCCURRED THURSDAY JANUARY 17TH. THE CAR IS STILL AT SUPERIOR HYUNDAI WAITING WORD FROM HYUNDAI MOTORS. DAVE THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT EITHER NEEDS A WIRE HARNESS OR AN ENGINE. NOT SURE THE RELATIONSHIP. SEEMS TO ME THEY SHOULD PUT ON THE WIRE HARNESS, IF THAT DOESN'T FIX IT REPLACE THE ENGINE.

UPON DRIVING, MY BSD SENSORS DID NOT OPERATE, AND ENGINE MADE WHISTLING SOUND UPON ACCELERATION AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 40MPH WITHOUT THE POWER BEING PULLED FROM THE ENGINE. ALSO TO NOTE MY CAR WAS APPARENTLY TRYING TO BE IN A HIGHER GEAR AT 30MPH (5TH GEAR). ALL OF THIS IS VERY SUSPICIOUS AS THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN SERVICED AT DEALERSHIPS WITH MOST RECENT BEING 1 WEEK PRIOR. THREW ON MY HAZARDS AND THE SCREEN INDICATED I SHOULD PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART. THE BATTERY LIGHT AND MASTER INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. CAR RESTARTED AND THE LIGHTS DISAPPEARED. WENT STRAIGHT TO HYUNDAI DEALER. THEY ATTEMPTED A 17 MILE ROAD TEST THE NEXT DAY AFTER THE CAR SAT OVERNIGHT AND IT DID NOT REPEAT THE ISSUE. NOTHING WAS STORED IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM FROM WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON. THEY HAVE NO EXPLANATION. OIL WAS CHANGED AND TOOK CAR BACK AT 5PM THE DAY AFTER THE ISSUE TOOK PLACE. DROVE 24 MILES TO WORK TODAY AND IT DID NOT REPEAT YET.

STILL NOT ABLE TO STOP I MADE AN ABRUPT TURN TO THE RIGHT AND WAS FORTUNATE (YES, FORTUNATE) TO HIT A RETAINING WALL AROUND BUSINESS SIGNS IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR. THRU THESE FRANTIC VERY FEW SECONDS AS I WAS TRYING TO STOP, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, I COULDN'T PUMP IT AS ONE WOULD EXPECT TO DO AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE ACCELERATING. LOWER TEMPS MIGHT BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROBLEM BUT NOT LIKELY TO BE THE PRIMARY CAUSE. IN ALL CASES THE CAR WAS AT OPERATING TEMP AND WAS RUNNING FOR MORE THEN 30 MIN. IT HAS NOT YET SHUT OFF WHILE ACCELERATING. ONLY MAINTAINING SPEED OR COASTING. ABOUT A TWO MONTHS AGO THE DEALER DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO A CLAIMED RECALL. THE ISSUE STARTED ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS LATER THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. I DID FIND SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS WHILE SEARCHING.

ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE DASH FLASHED "CHECK TPMS" MEANING CHECK AIR IN THE TIRES. ON ALL 3 OCCASIONS THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR.THE NEXT OCCASION THE CHECK TPMS CAME ON SO I PUT AIR IN THE TIRES AND DROVE AROUND THE CORNER TO RESET THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR (COMPUTER). UPON COMING AROUND THE CORNER TO PARK THE CAR THE CHECK TPMS WARNING CAME ON AGAIN THE CAR POWERED DOWN AND I COASTED TO PARK. THE NEXT MORNING I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED I WAS TOLD FROM JARED THAT THE TECHNICIAN DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THAT " HE THINKS, MAYBE, MIGHT HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. AT THIS POINT I DID NOT PICK UP THE CAR BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THE CAR HAD BEEN FIXED AND THAT IT WILL NOT DIE WHILE DRIVING AROUND HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY WERE NOT SURE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM I HAD WITH THE CAR. I LEFT THE CAR THERE CONTACTED HYNDAI CORPORATE WHERE THEY OPENED A CASE #9327831 .. THEY IN TURN HAD A FAST TEAM WORKING ON MY CAR AND THEY ARE NOT SURE IF THE CAR IS FIXED OR NOT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR A MONTH NOW STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I WAS TOLD IT DOES NOT FALL UNDER LEMON LAW UNLESS THE CAR DOES THE SAME THING AGAIN. I PURCHASED A USED 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA WITH 43K MILES. I HAVE HAD IT FOR THREE MONTHS WITH MINOR PROBLEMS SUCH AS SLUGGISH ACCELERATION, HARD DECELERATION WHEN REMOVING FOOT FROM GAS PEDAL, AND A NOISY ENGINE. HOWEVER, ON 4-8-2016 AT ABOUT 7:30 AM, I WAS ATTEMPTING A LEFT TURN ON A BUSY METROPOLITAN STREET WHEN THE 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA SHUT DOWN SUDDENLY, COMPLETELY TURNED OFF! ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AND THEN WENT DEAD. THE 2015 SONATA CAME TO A STOP, AND THERE WAS A TRUCK APPROACHING AT A HIGH SPEED RATE THAT HAD TO SWERVE AROUND ME TO PREVENT A COLLISION WITH ME. I WAS LUCKY THE DRIVER WAS PAYING ATTENTION. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS AND IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM, WHICH SEEMS TO BE OCCURRING IN MANY 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA VEHICLES. I BOUGHT A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA ECO ON AUG 30, 2015 AND SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT AND DISPLAY CAME ON WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH INDICATING THAT THE REAR DRIVE WHEEL WAS AT 9PSI. I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INSPECTED TIRE AND THE TIRE HAD A NORMAL FEEL. DROVE FOR 10 MINS AND TIRE PRESSURE WENT BACK UP TO 35 PSI. ON 11/15 THE BATTERY AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE AND IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE LIGHTS THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I SAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO RESTART MY VEHICLE AND THEN DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS, "2691 PERFORMED ALL SYSTEM FAULT CODE SEARCH AND TSB SEARCH. NO FAULT CODES STORED AT THIS TIME AND NO RELATED TSBS FOR CUSTOMER CONCERN AS DESCRIBED." THE DEALERSHIP LATER FOUND A WARNING SAYING TO REPROGRAM THE SENSOR AND REPROGRAMMED THE SENSOR AS THE "FIX". I OPENED A CASE WITH HYUNDAI AND THE RESULTS OF THE CASE WAS TO OBTAIN A PRINT OUT OF THE ERROR CODES (WHICH IS SHOWING NONE) AND TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB IF I WASN'T SATISFIED WITH THE OUTCOME. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT PROPERLY RECORDING ISSUES THAT MY VEHICLE ENCOUNTERS LIKE MY ENGINE SHUTTING OFF. THE MECHANICS AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT ERROR CODES ARE THROWN USUALLY WHEN THE SENSORS GO BAD. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY IN A VEHICLE THAT HYUNDAI WILL NOT FIX SOLELY BECAUSE THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES ON FILE. I BELIEVE THAT THE ERROR CODES THAT SHOULD BE IN THIS REPORT TO SHOW THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF ARE NOT BEING RECORDED PROPERLY. THIS HYUNDAI SONOTA HAS A PUSH BUTTON IGNITION. ONCE THE ENGINE IS STARTED, A PERSON CAN LEAVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY FOB IN THEIR POCKET AND THE ENGINE STAYS RUNNING AND WILL NOT SHUT OFF. THIS IS IN VIOLATION OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 114. ONCE THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE SHOULD SHUT OFF. THIS ENGINE IS SO QUIET YOU CANNOT EVEN HEAR IT RUNNING WHILE IN THE VEHICLE AND IF SOMEONE IS PARTIALLY COLOR BLIND YOU CAN BARELY SEE THE RED AND GREEN INDICATOR. THIS ENGINE WILL RUN IN AN IDLE STATE NO MATTER WHERE THE KEY CAUSING RISK OF FIRE, CARBON MONOXIDE POISINING AND DEATH AND INJURY TO ANYONE NEAR THIS VEHICLE IF LEFT RUNNING AND SINCE THE CAR STAYS RUNNING ONCE IT IS STARTED ANYONE CAN WALK AWAY WITH THE KEY FOB IN THEIR POCKET AND THE CAR STAYS RUNNING NO MATTER WHAT. THERE ARE NO REMINDERS WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE THAT THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, THERE IS NO AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF IN THE VEHICLE, THERE ARE NO REMINDERS IN THE VEHICLE THAT THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THE PUSH BUTTON STARTS ARE NOT ONLY A SAFETY THREAT BUT ALSO CAN BE HAZARD IN A PARKING GARAGE IF THE ENGINE CATCHES FIRE DUE TO OVER HEATING IT CAN AFFECT ALL THE OTHER VEHICLES IN A PARKING GARAGE AND CAUSE EVEN WORSE DAMAGE.

MY OWNER'S MANUAL CLEARLY STATES (PAGE 5-41) THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH SHOULD ILLUMINATE FOR 3 SECONDS DURING START UP AS THE ABS SYSTEM RUN A SELF-TEST, THEN EXTINGUISH. THE ABS LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD DOES NOT ILLUMINATE DURING STARTUP AS DESCRIBED IN MY OWNER'S MANUAL. DESPITE NUMEROUS DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AT CERTIFIED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS, THE ABS SYSTEM IS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY. I AM MAKING THE FOLLOWING INQUIRIES: 1. IS THE 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED DESIGNED TO HAVE THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATE DURING STARTUP (TO CONFIRM OR DENY WHAT IS PUBLISHED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL)? 2. IS THIS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT REQUIRES A RECALL/REPLACEMENT? 3. I PURCHASED A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED W/ TECH PKG. I HAVE THE CAR WITH ME IN QUEBEC CANADA FOR A JOB. TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN CANADA, IT MUST UNDERGO AN INSPECTION ACCORDING TO CANADIAN STANDARDS.DURING VEHICLE STARTUP, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH MUST ILLUMINATE FOR 3 SECONDS AND THEN GO OUT TO SIGNIFY NORMAL OPERATION OF THE ABS. MY ABS LIGHT DID NOT DO THIS, SO IT FAILED. A DIAGNOSTIC AT A CANADIAN HYUNDAI DEALER CAME BACK WITH NO ERROR CODES, THE ABS MODULE FUNCTIONED NORMALLY, AND AN EMERGENCY STOP ROAD TEST ACTIVATED THE ABS SYSTEM. I'D LIKE TO SAY I WAS ABLE TO CONVINCE THEM BY OPENING MY OWNER'S MANUAL, BUT TO MY SURPRISE THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT THE ABS LIGHT SHOULD ILLUMINATE FOR 3 SECONDS AND THEN EXTINGUISH. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THE CAR AND THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE SAME CONDITION (NO ABS LIGHT AT START UP) ON AN IDENTICAL 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED VEHICLE AND STATED THERE WERE NO PENDING RECALLS. THUS, I DO NOT THINK THIS IS NOT A MANUFACTURER DEFECT (ABLE TO REPLICATE ON IDENTICAL VEHICLE AND HAVE SEEN SEVERAL ONLINE VIDEOS TO SUPPORT NO ABS LIGHT ON START UP IN LIMITED EDITION SONATA), THERE IS NO MALFUNCTION IN THE ABS SYSTEM (CANADA DIAGNOSTIC), AND THERE IS A DISCREPANCY IN THE OWNERS MANUAL THAT IS MODEL-SPECIFIC. I AM UNABLE TO REFERENCE ABS LIGHTING CONDITIONS SPECIFIC TO THE LIMITED EDITION DURING THE INSPECTION PROCESS. AT 1540 MILES 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED ENGINE CAM ADVANCE SENSOR FAILED. THIS CAUSED ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH AND LIMITED POWER WITH INABILITY TO CLIMB HILLS WITHOUT CONSTANTLY DOWNSHIFTING. HIGHWAY DRIVING IS DANGEROUS DUE TO INABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND MERGE AND LOSS OF POWER ON HILLS. OTHER OWNERS ARE UNABLE TO START THEIR CARS ALTOGETHER. ENGINE MONITOR WARNED OF PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDED FULL SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC WHICH POINTED TO CAM SENSOR ISSUE. SUPPLY OF SENSORS WAS BACKLOGGED DUE TO MULTIPLE FAILURES NATIONALLY. THIS IS ALSO EVIDENCED BY THE NUMBER OF ONLINE OWNER COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE MANY STATING LONG DELAYS IN OBTAINING THE PART AND MULTIPLE PART FAILURES. IN MY CASE, AFTER 200 MILES WITH THE NEW SENSOR IF FAILED A SECOND TIME AND I AM AGAIN WAITING FOR PARTS. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 1700 MILES ON IT SINCE NEW. FOR A NEW VEHICLE THIS IS A TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE LEVEL OF QUALITY. WHILE I WAS TOLD THE O-RING SEAL FAILS CAUSING OIL TO SATURATE THE SENSOR I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THEY DO NOT KNOW THE FULL REASON FOR THE FAILURES, I.E. POOR SENSOR MANUFACTURING, MATERIALS ISSUE, O-RING ISSUE ETC. IN SPEAKING WITH HYUNDAI CORPORATE PERSONNEL IT BECAME OBVIOUS TO ME THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO AVOID A NATIONAL RECALL BY UNDERSTATING THE SCOPE OF THIS PROBLEM NATIONALLY AND TRYING TO MINIMALIZE THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM IN OUR CONVERSATIONS. I SUGGEST AN INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF THE ISSUE AND SEE IF IT WARRANTS A RECALL.
