On the highway, my 2015 Hyundai Sonata suddenly began making a squealing or metallic rattling noise. At first, I thought it might have been something loose inside the vehicle. Within moments, the check engine light began blinking, followed by several additional warning lights and a pronounced knocking noise from the engine area. Immediately after the warning lights appeared, the vehicle entered a reduced-power “limp mode” and began rapidly losing speed, even though the engine was still running. Because this occurred at highway speed while surrounding traffic was traveling normally, I had to pull onto the shoulder to avoid being struck. This created a significant safety hazard. I was stranded for approximately 45 minutes on the shoulder, at risk of being struck by other vehicles passing at high speeds. A tow truck arrived before the highway patrol, and the vehicle was towed home. When I returned home, my code reader pulled two versions of diagnostic code P1326, which is associated with potential engine bearing failure in Hyundai Theta II engines. The issue has since been inspected by the dealership, who confirmed the presence of the P1326 code. The vehicle is currently available for further inspection upon request. There were no prior symptoms that I was aware of leading up to the incident other than the brief squealing/rattling noise and the sudden warning lights immediately beforehand. The failure happened suddenly and without warning, causing an immediate and unexpected loss of speed and creating a dangerous situation on the highway.

At about 30mph the sunroof suddenly flew of of my car and almost hit the car behind me thst had to avoid the flying part, for a good luck it didn’t cause a major accident because I was about get in a busy highway and this hazard could’ve caused a major ctash envolvimg multiple cars, the vehicle behind me has a dashcam that recorded the event. For God nobody got injured.

I am reporting a recurring and unresolved hybrid system failure in my 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited that poses an ongoing safety risk to me and my family. The issue involves a "Hybrid System Warning – Safely Stop and Do Not Drive" message that appears randomly while driving, causing the vehicle to jerking and creating dangerous conditions on the road. This issue first occurred in February 2024 and has persisted through October 2025 despite repeated service visits and costly out-of-pocket repairs. The hybrid battery was eventually replaced after 8+ months of delays, but the exact same warning and jerking symptoms returned in March 2025 and have never been properly resolved. The dealership (Crown Hyundai in St. Petersburg, FL) and Hyundai corporate case management have been unable to replicate or diagnose the problem consistently, and continue returning the vehicle to me in unsafe condition. On October 3, 2025, the same warning reappeared and the vehicle was dropped off again for yet another service attempt. Again on October 7, 2025, I was told to pick up my car, they could not replicate the issue and could not find a code to respond to. To date, I’ve paid $1,748.65 for a repair (air flappers) that did not solve the issue, and spent months without use of the vehicle, continuing to pay for insurance during that time. I believe this is a defective hybrid propulsion system that meets the threshold for investigation and possibly a recall, given the repeat safety risk and lack of resolution. Please investigate this matter for the safety of other drivers as well.

While driving, my 2015 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T experienced severe knocking and loss of power due to a KSDS-related engine defect. The check engine light was inoperative, and the engine now makes loud noises and emits fumes. Hyundai declined warranty coverage despite known KSDS issues. This poses a serious safety concern ( I recently purchased the car and been fixing problems every since)

The car got the 993 campaign software engine immobilizer update and it was locked with the keyfob. It still got stolen. Thieves broke the lock on driver side door which deactivates the immobilizer. Car was found and police report was filed. It is available for inspection. Many Hyundais that have had the immobilizer update have since been stolen. The 993 software update is ineffective.

The vehicle had the antitheft recall service done. On 8/30/25 the vehicle was stolen. It was recovered on 9/1/25 without the catalytic converter. The insurance confirmed it was a total loss. The door lock was tampered along with the engine lock. This was a horrible experience.

On [XXX], my 2015 Hyundai Sonata experienced a sudden and complete loss of power while driving at highway speed on [XXX] in Sarasota, FL. There were no warning lights, error messages, or abnormal performance indicators prior to the failure. Within minutes of losing power, smoke began to enter the cabin, followed by visible flames from the engine compartment. I pulled over, exited the vehicle, and called 911. The fire fully engulfed the vehicle and destroyed personal property inside, including my late father’s ashes. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) The incident caused significant emotional distress and has resulted in a PTSD diagnosis. The sudden nature of the failure and rapid spread of the fire suggest a critical defect in the vehicle’s engine or related components. Our 2015 Sonata has experiencing Engine failure several times due to excessive and irregular oil consumption. Our family’s safety and the safety of others on the roadway were put at risk as the engine slows, shudders and stalls without prior warning and the check engine light does not come on until the vehicle slows and stalls. The vehicle was inspected at a local Hyundai dealership, and they indicated that this is not covered under warranty. Summary of Engine Issues and Failures: 1.May 3, 2022 – 68,671 miles (local Hyundai dealer) Check engine light on, shudder; oil change performed. No cause identified. Paid out-of-pocket. 2.August 23, 2022 – 75,527 miles (retail shop) Car engines failed on highway, towed to service shop. Valve cover gaskets replaced. Paid out-of-pocket in part and extended warranty paid part of the invoice. 3.April 29, 2024 – 109,229 miles (local Hyundai dealer) Excessive oil consumption noted; valve cover gasket replaced again. Paid out-of-pocket. 4.January 22, 2025 – 118,341 miles (local Hyundai dealer) Vehicle stalled en route to airport, towed to dealership; dealership advised oil change. Paid out-of-pocket. 5.May 20, 2025 – 122,000 miles (local Hyundai dealer) Engine codes P0300, P0302, P0303 identified. Dealer diagnosed excessive oil consumption likely due to ring wear or sticking rings, contributing to spark plug misfires. Recommendation: Engine replacement. Despite consistent and timely service, including multiple visits to the Hyundai dealership, the root issue has not been properly addressed. The current diagnosis of internal engine failure is a clear continuation of a pattern of unresolved engine problems (stalling in motion, oil leaks and oil consumption) all of which originated well within Hyundai’s original warranty. The vehicle has been well maintained, and all recalls have been addressed in a timely manner. Hyundai’s failure to acknowledge and take responsibility for this widely documented engine issue is a safety concern.

My steering rack had to be replaced at less than 55,000 miles. I asked the dealer if this was covered under warranty and they said no. I was charged $4,800 for this repair. I contacted Hyundai USA and they refused to cover the repair. I then realized that I had received a letter from Hyundai stating my car had the extended warranty of 15 years/150m miles for this exact repair. I am on the phone with Hyundai now and they are still refusing to cover this repair, even though they sent me the letter stating my car has this extended warranty. My car is available for inspection upon request. Yes, my safety and the safety of others was put at risk, my power steering would intermittently go out while turning. Yes, my car was inspected twice, once in 2023 and again in May of 2025. Repairs were done in May. I was told this was not covered under warranty but I have an extended warranty from Hyundai for this exact problem. That extended warranty is for 15 years/150m miles. Yes, the occurrence in 2025 threw a code of C168708 - CAN time out VSM (MDPS) and C1814 - CAN message failure SAS.

On 03/14 I was driving down the road the with the sunroof open the wind flap suddenly went to flying making a loud sound I pulled over and saw that it was loose and hanging I went to press the button to attempt to close it and it semi closed. I went and had it looked at and was told that it was broken and could not be closed and needed to be replaced I was told it was a common issue with Hyundais and to contact the company

To whom it may concern, I was driving on the highway with my sunroof down as the weather was nice. I started to hear a flapping sound and got off at the next exit. I tried to close the sunroof but it would not close. It looked like the windshield thing for the sunroof detached on the passenger side and blocking it. A minute after I started to drive the sunroof panel detached and flew off my car. It shattered on the street in front of another car that was driving behind me. This car had to swerve to miss being hit. I immediately called the Hyundai dealership crying and the women promised me a manager would call me back. I told the lady I dont know what to do. Do I call the police because a 30-pound glass panel is shattered on the street? Do I call my insurance? She said she would have the sales manager and service manager call me back. I was so shaken and scared from the event I called out the rest of the day from work. I had to uber my son home from school because I was nervous to drive the car. If I didnt get off the next exit; would my sunroof have flown off and caused a car accident? It was really scary to see the panel fly off like paper and almost hit another car. That I could have cause another person to have an accident and they couldve gotten hurt. The whole thing is just crazy to me. I did not get a call back from hyundai yesterday. I will try to reach them today. I will uber my son to school this morning as one of the pieces is sticking out and still flapping. When I looked up the recall on my car for this; I could not believe that the hyundai fix is super glue? This car really is glued together.... I purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. Two years ago, I'm having issues with my car paint peeling off in the hood, roof and trunk. Many times I when to the dealer to ask them about the recall, and they state that there is nothing they can do since they did not have anything registered for a paint peeling recall. My car day by day is getting worse and I need help for this issue to be fix.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata with Quartz White Pearl paint continues to peel off my car and cause me to swerve thinking that there is something coming at my car like a bird due to the paint peeling so fast. On June 30, 2024 I was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata and the car caught on fire. There were no warning lights/ dash indicators/ no check engine lights or other warnings present. I had just exited the highway and while sitting at a light, smoke began emanating from the hood and within seconds the smoke turned dark brown at the vents near the windshield. I immediately exited out of the vehicle. I did not have time to pull over out of traffic. The car was engulfed in flames within a very short period of time. I had only seconds to exit the car. I would have struggled to get any passengers out of the backseat safely (i.e. kids in car seats) had I not been the only one in the car at the time. We had notified Hyundai of engine concerns that began in 2023, and they had given us the runaround for many months requiring us to submit paperwork for oil changes for the lifetime of the car and to keep returning to the dealership for "testing" after driving a certain # of miles. They required us to bring the car in to have pictures of the engine taken to ensure there wasn't "neglect" to the car on our part. This excessive and lengthy process by Hyundai took several months after initial concerns were brought up with the dealer. After being required to submit voluminous amount of paperwork and several trips to the dealership for "testing", Hyundai finally agreed to replace the faulty engine. We were told we could continue to drive it until a new engine was ordered. The new engine was scheduled to be replaced on July 11, 2024 however, the car burst into flames on June 30, 2024. Had Hyundai taken appropriate action when the issue was first brought to their attention, this incident would have likely been avoided and had not endangered my life and others helping. My 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport with 63k miles does not show any open recalls relating to fires however, my car was parked, went to turn it on, smelled an electrical smell and white smoke began billowing out of the engine. Within minutes the vehical engine compartment was engulfed in flames. I was able to remove my family from the vehicle and fire department came out to extinguish the vehicle. Thankfully everyone movedthere vehicles and no other vehicles were impacted but insurance has inspected the vehicle and determined it's a total loss as the whole engine compartment is melted. If not for me thinking and the action of others, many others cars could have been burned and my family burned and injured as they are still shook up about. Hyundai offered me a low settlement but there is know recall on the specific VIN for electrical or engine issues. The following weekend I met a guy who just purchased a pre-owned Hyundai and after leaving he stopped at a red light and the vehicle engine compartment went up in flames while parked. There is a larger issue at hand here and please help us investigate this so no one else has to go through this nightmare.

The Hyundai dealership conducted an oil consumption test in which it was discovered that the car is excessively using oil. My Safety and the safety of others were put at risk as the engine slow and stalls without prior warning and the check engine light does not come on until the vehicle slows and stalls. The vehicle was inspected at a Hyundai dealership and submitted to Hyundai for all or partial financial assistance for a new Engine and in turn was declined by Hyundai even though they have a know issue of their Engines consuming an unusually high rate of oil.

Car has a distinct burning smell when driving it. This has been going on since late summer of 2023. I moved to a different state from NC to AL. Had it inspected and because it wasn’t smelling at the time the mechanic stated there were no issues. Also, got a recall for campaign 993 with my vin number from Hyundai and no dealership will honor it bc when they look up the vin it says no recall due. Please help me rectify this situation so I’m not out of a car. I don’t know if it’s bc I relocated that I’m not getting cooperation. I’m not able to even schedule an appt with the dealership bc of this. Please help.

I was driving down [XXX], about 20 miles southwest of Atlanta when I saw flames and smoke come underneath the hood of my car. I pulled over to the right shoulder and I was able to exit the vehicle before the entire front engine compartment was melted and engulfed in flames. Local FD responded and extinguished the fire. My car was smoking from under the hood. I had it towed to the dealer. Service dept said valve cover. Picked car up 2 days later and less than 1/4 mile from dealer the car was smoking, I called service department was told it was normal. Stopped at red light, smoking intense, turned back to dealer. I lost my brakes, stopped by the grace of God. Passerby told me to get out, my car was on fire. 2 minutes later it was fully engulfed. Total loss.

I am 86 years old. I bought the car brand new so I am the original owner. I have kept the car perfectly maintained and garaged from the day I bought it. My wife is also 86. She and I are the only ones that drive the car. To date, it has 73,822 miles on it. The main issue I am having is random, unpredictable stalling and hesitation when trying to accelerate. We have also had unintended acceleration. This always happens at the worst times which causes grave concern for our safety. We have taken the care to the dealership here in Cape Girardeau, MO called Chris Auffenberg Hyundai. They've charged me $130 only to tell me nothing is wrong. I have continued to try to work with them and they now have decided a new fuel pump will fix this which is $730. I have noticed there are already hundreds of complaints on the 2015 that all say they have the same exact issues I am having but this dealership doesn't seem to care. Here is what I have read. "The most common issue in the 2015 Sonata lies with its faulty throttle control system, which can cause stalling, hesitation, and even unintended acceleration. Currently, there is no fix from Hyundai." My dealership will not acknowledge this even though it is public information. I feel like they are going to keep replacing parts and are taking advantage of me. [XXX] is the Service Manager at this dealership and I am not happy how he is handling this. The panoramic sunroof wind deflector is off I seen online there was a recall about that. I call hyundai customer service about it they said it's been fix already in 2016. I'm a new owner and not sure where the work was done before I got it, but it came unglued again. I purchased the car from John amato hyundai dealership and get the services done there because I'm under a forever warranty and can't going anywhere eles because of the warranty. Which nothing is done free on it and all the work I've had done from them I believe they don't do everything because it still rides and sounds the same and there #1 excuse is that's how hyundai cars sounds. So with that being said if John amato fixed it, I see why it failed again. Can check my car to see if recalls were really preformed and done correctly and what's needed now to be like new again.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata has recently been having both electrical and engine problems. Roughly a month ago, I had my vehicle completely stall in the middle of the highway. I lost power and a bunch of lights came on at once. Thankfully, I was in the right lane so I was able to safely get off the road even though I had many other cars speeding around me. I had no acceleration, I was just cruising off the highway at this point. Thankfully, my brakes did still work. Engine light and a bunch of errors turned on but went away once I pulled off and restarted the vehicle. I pulled off the road and once I decided to try and start it and go again, my car felt like it had hardly any power the whole way home. Fast forward to last weekend, I was driving home and my car would not accelerate. The engine light comes on and this time, my acceleration didn’t completely shut off, I was just very limited. I had to ease into the gas because I felt like it was having a hard time shifting gears and keeping up with the RPMS. I felt uncomfortable pushing it above 50. As I got close to home, I noticed a knocking noise in the engine. I plugged one of my code readers in and it spit out 7e8, 7e9 and I believe it was p1326. I am unsure what exactly happened but it is giving an error code for the engine sensor. I was driving the expressway (55-65MPH) and my car went directly into safe mode. Which I didn’t kno what it was til later. I went from going expressway speed to almost getting t-boned getting off of the exit ramp as I was unable to accelerate over 2RPMs. So my acceleration would jolt my car when going over 2RPMs. I made it to a gas station where I had my mechanic friend meet me. He said I had no oil. We put 4 quarts in and it barely did the job! I had gotten my car serviced and oil changed not too far from when my car began to “shut down”. So oil is in the compartment, the engine light turns off. Well then I’m driving the expressway AGAIN thinking the problem is solved but also curious WHY and HOW I had no oil. All of a sudden the car goes back into the mode. Engine light comes on an I am once again going de-accelerating in traffic on an expressway. I get off an exit and make it home in back roads. I had to pay for rentals and I was unable to get it to the Hyundai manufacturer. I got it to another certified mechanic which stated there is an oil leak somewhere but is unable to be found. As the 4qts added days prior, was almost gone again. The engine sounds awful, there’s rattling noises, noises sounding like a fan is broken but still spinning. There was absolutely NO warning signs prior. Nothing was on, nothing was off, absolutely NOTHING to forewarn me of this awful situation until it decided it was going to safe mode on the expressway out of nowhere. I owe thousands of dollars in rentals, I can’t afford to even pay that off! For Hyundai to diagnose my car, they wanna charge 80$! When I already have the error code from the previous mechanic. I don’t have the money to be doing this funny business. The car actually turned off when I was driving it and was in like an idle mode or something. I have no clue. Nobody has any idea where the oil goes. It isn’t showing smoke anywhere

My car has an anti theft defect that’s making cars like mine easy to be stolen. Over the weekend I took my kids to six flags and my car was stolen. I had my 3 kids with me and my wife. My kids are scared and feels unsafe. If theirs anything you guys can do to help me out, I will appreciate it. I do not have the money to fix my car at the time. My car had been in and out of dealership going through oil consumption testing. Was at dealership on Monday June 19th having more pictures as well as dropping oil pan etc. I was told Friday June 23 2023 car would be ready they were checking a seal to make sure it didn’t leak. I picked car up brought it home went out of town with my fiancée in his vehicle. Drove my car on Monday June 26th to work when I got off I picked my granddaughter and mother up. Drove home and 5 minutes of being inside my car exploded in my driveway. I did receive 1st degree burns was treated at my local ER.

2015 Hybrid Sonata, milages at 82,000 km, owned for 8 years. "Hybrid system warning, do not drive" message occurred, car lost 100% of its power, went into complete stop without any warnings on the middle of the highway. Hazard lights do not work and unable to warn incoming traffic that the car has completely stalled in the highway. The car is unsafe to drive. Went to Hyundai (here in Canada) several times, being charged every time for diagnostic and repair works, been told that the issues were fixed via software update. Problem persists. There are compelling evidences from different car forums, websites and NHTSA own database (28 reports under Unknown, 22 reports under Electrical sys. categories...) on the hybrid system failure or/and 100% power lost lead to complete stalled car. Although all these reports did not site any injury, major or death events, NHTSA should compel Hyundai to take appropriate actions to render the car safe to drive for the public because if accidents should happened, it cannot be undone and will affect lives of people. The public relies on a governing body to represent us and hold the manufacturer responsable to ensure that their mkt released products are safe: to save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes.

Driving on a busy street the car suddenly started to show a Hibrid system warning safety stop and do not drive and then the car slowed down on traffic scary situation since it was a busy road then another car pulled up and two guys help get it out of the road since the car would not start again. Our safety was at risk on the middle of the road and could possibly caused an accident. The problem still persist I towed it to the dealer and paid for a diagnostic wich the dealer took a month to return the car back to me and they did two recalls but never performed a diagnostic on the car and instead they just called the tech line and gave me a $6000.00 estimate for a hi voltage battery replacement.

While driving on the 91 freeway in the Fasttrack lanes, this warning displayed on the dashboard: "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop and Do Not Drive." The Fasttrack lanes are on 91 freeway are cordoned off, so there is no way to get out for 10 miles. We had to continue driving, but the car started losing power after 2-3 miles and began stalling. It was an extremely dangerous situation. We were very fortunate to find a construction zone that allowed us to pull the car into a safe spot. Once the car was stopped, it would not start and had to be towed to the dealer (Cardinal Way Hyundai in Corona, CA) on May 8. The dealer ran diagnostics and sent the codes to Hyundai tech center. The tech center advised the dealer to update the system software. After updating the software the dealer returned the car to me on May 9. Previously, on Aug 17, 2020, I had the same warning light “Hybrid System Warning!...” while driving on the highway. I was able to take an exit and park the car safely. I had to get it towed to the same dealer. The dealer reported that the diagnostic “measured resistance at safety plug. Found open circuit. Replaced safety plug.” The car was fixed and returned to me on the same day. It is completely unacceptable to have a car shut down without any warning in the middle of the freeway. If we had stopped in the middle of the freeway, it would have resulted in a very bad accident and could have resulted in loss of life. The tow truck driver told us that he has towed many Hyundai or Kia hybrid cars with similar issues. This problem seems to be a systematic and Hyundai should be subject to recall these cars to fix this dangerous problem. Hyundai needs to make sure that the car owner is provided sufficient warning of any impending problems with the hybrid system. Furthermore, the onboard communication system in the Sonata hybrid is outdated and does not work, so no diagnostic reports are generated. Hyundai needs to provide free replacement of the comm system.

after taking my 2015 sonata eco to the dealership for campaign 993; campaign 210; and, campaign tww 15-17 I have experienced the following issues: RIGHT TURN SIGNAL STOPPED WORKING ALARM GOES OFF 5 MINUTES AFTER LOCKING THE VEHICLE DASH INDICATES MY REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IT IS LOCKED Prior to having the service done my vehicle did not have any of this issues. RUSNAK Hyundai Inland Empire has not been helpful in resolving these issues. I am being asked to pay to diagnose the issues that were not present prior to the software updates.

In September 2022, we noticed a noise coming from under the car hood. Sounded like a thump as we accelerated. We took it to the Hyundai’s service department and was told that they couldn’t hear anything or find a problem. They changed my oil. We continued to hear a noise but thought it wasn’t a concern. In February, a fairly new tire went flat and we returned to the Hyundai service department. I received a call later and was told that they could hear a noise and they checked, and my oil was extremely low. They topped it off and told me to return in a thousand miles to see if it was still burning oil. If it was burning significant oil at that point, they would seal it and begin the Hyundai oil consumption test. At about 600 miles, I could smell a strong plastic burning odor and we checked the dip stick and the oil was barely detectable. We called Hyundai and was told there was nothing they could do and we have to go the full thousand miles to determine if we qualify for the test. We are concerned are engine is going to stall, burn up or catch fire in our garage. They told us, we couldn’t get are car in to be looked at until the end of March. After doing some research, I am aware that there is a current class action lawsuit against Hyundai for this issue.

I have been keeping up with regular repairs and oil changes on my vehicle; so I was surprised when the oil light flashed once or twice in the past week, specifically when I took a turn tightly. The oil was low when I checked it so I added a quart and didn't think much of it except "I should get into a shop soon and have that checked out." Two days later, my RPMs red-lined past 6-7k and the car was revving up but was not accelerating at all. I pulled over and checked the engine again and without showing any kind of leaks (no spots in my driveway/parkingspot) the engine had consumed the oil I added and then some. Moreover, the problem with the engine revving up but not accelerating was not fixed when I added the oil. It could have been very dangerous if I were on the highway and was not able to accelerate for any reason that could put myself or my family at risk. Now, the car CAN reach speeds of 75+ miles per hour on the highway, but only after a LONG period of acceleration and seems to be burning oil VERY regularly. I've grown very concerned about catastrophic engine failure on the highway.

My 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.4L is burning through oil like crazy and has been for a while now and I had no Idea. I get oil changes like I am suppose to do per the sticker and miles. Recently I drove about 4 hours away from home and I smelled burning but I had just got my breaks done and a oil change so I assumed it was the breaks . I got back home and still smelled the smell took it to the shop and they told me it was bone dry with NO oil at all. I was not at my mileage from the sticker so it wasn't time for me to get another oil change. They then told me these cars burns oil like crazy but that was the fist time anyone told me this and I have never had this issue ( I've had the car since Jan 2020 with no issues) They put more oil in it and told me to come back when it reaches the mileage. I went back to get my oil change and once again it was BARE!!!!!! They did the oil change and 2 weeks later I started my car and white smoke came from the engine part under the hood through my exhaust pipe AND my VENTS!! It was so much smoke I was afraid a fire was going to start!!! I lost a day at work and my daughter missed a day at school. Turns out I have a oil leak and I need my Valve seal cover gasket replaced. Not once did my oil light come on and TWICE my car had been completely out of oil! I am going to get my engine checked because who knows if it has done any damage (hopefully none). My car has never overheated or my check engine light has never came on. I see there a recall for this exact situation but the years covered was from 2008 or something until 2014 and I have a 2015! This is clearly a ongoing problem with Hyundai and something needs to be done. This is not a sweep under the rug issue. Its literally ruining peoples cars and we are left to fend for ourselves. Something or someone needs to advocate for the customer because the company clearly is not listening to complaints.

Our 2015 Hyundai Sonata has made a clunking sound when accelerating or slowing down. We took our car to Brandon Hyundai and explained the problem. They had our car for 1 day and said a motor mount and a transmission mount were faulty. They said they did the repairs and that it was covered by warranty. Within a few days the car was making the same sound and we returned it to Hyundai. The next day the car repair was "completed". Again they said it was a motor mount and it was repaired at no expense since it was covered by warranty. The noise returned and we will schedule another appointment to hopefully fix the problem. Our Sonata has 97000 miles on it and we think Brandon Hyundai may be stalling until the warranty runs out. Our family has bought 5 new Hyundai's in the last 10 years and have been very pleased with the cars. I don't blame the vehicle, just the dealer's service department. RVE

Alternator tensioner bracket broke, causing the alternator to hang loosely, which caused the car to gradually lose electrical power to all accessories and safety equipment due to the serpentine belt being loose from the broken bracket. During traveling immediately before failure, the battery warning light illuminated on the dash panel, going on and off intermittently. Thereafter, I began losing control of all my electrical safety features, including power steering, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, forward collision warning system, and eventually power to my entire vehicle as the battery was drained of all charge. At the time of events, my family of 4, including a 2 year old and a 10 week old, were all occupants of the vehicle. With the power of the vehicle declining, the power steering was activating/deactivating intermittently causing the car to jerk one way or the other unexpectedly. Had we remained traveling on the highway at highway speeds, our safety would have been greatly compromised from the unexpected power failure to all electrical safety features. The vehicle and fractured tensioner bracket have not been inspected or confirmed by dealer or independent service provider as the vehicle is not drivable. The broken tensioner bracket is apparent and indisputable.

I have approximately 54k on my vehicle and took it to Pep Boys (Lake Forest, Ca) last week for oil change. They state that my front axle (CV Axle) needs to be replaced because it is leaking grease. They state their replacement is a brand-new part. Less than a year ago my husband took his car to V-Tech Automotive who cited the same repair for his vehicle, the same year, make, and model (2015 Hyundai Sonata SE, Vin# 5NPE24AF6FH205523), at that time his vehicle had only 26,661 miles. My husband called to Hyundai Motor America this week because we have had in the past several other vehicles varying makes (Honda, Toyota, and Mazda) but never in hundreds of thousands of miles driven was such a repair ever needed. Now both of our vehicles with exceptionally low mileage both need to have the front axles replaced. The Supervisor Justin (Hyundai Motor America, Fountain Valley, CA) on 11/2/22 gave him a case number 20531055 and stated that he will receive a call back from a case manager, today (11/4/22) he received the called back from a case manager Cierra. Her position is the same as the first phone call to their customer service a couple days earlier, is that we pay for the diagnostic ($179) and repair ($1140 each vehicle, diagnostic deducted if work is done there) at only a Hyundai Dealership and maybe after the fact they will make a “Good Will Reimbursement”, but they will not approve that beforehand and may not approve it at all. Though there is a 5-year warranty or 60K whichever comes first, these repairs are not covered because 5 years has elapsed though under the 60k mileage, nor is it covered under their extended 10-year warranty. The estimate for their work was provided over the phone by Tuttle Click Irvine (Irvine, Ca), their repair however is for a remanufactured part (Pep Boys is for a new) about $400 more per vehicle. We are not inclined to pay exorbitant pricing or at all for design defects.

My battery,oil and check engine light came on. The car would not start, took it to the dealer they had my car 3 weeks and they said they couldn’t pull any codes because it started up. However, they did charge the battery. I drove the car a few day and the same thing Happened where the same codes came on and car wouldn’t start. I had to find a ride to work and when I got home and started the car it started right up. I have also read plenty of reviews claiming this same things has happened to them.

The vehicle slowed and stopped suddenly on a busy road when the issue started. Currently, it has been inspected by two different shops and they have both given me the same diagnosis.

I would like to start by saying I love my Hyundai. I love the way it drives. It is a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Limited, my only means of transportation. My main concern is my vehicle was made without an engine immobilizer which makes it very easy for thieves to steal my car, by removing part of the steering column and using a USB charging cable. And to add to this problem, if a thief was to break a window to gain entry in the vehicle, the window is not part of the car’s alarm system. I am aware of a lot of Hyundai vehicles being stolen due to this problem. On or about 08/16/2022, I contacted Hyundai Customer Care Main Office and the gentleman I addressed this problem to said Hyundai was supposed to be making a kit available for purchase in October 2022, with a price range of $100+ through $200+. I am upset because 1) I don’t feel like I should have to purchase this kit out of my pocket because it is not my fault Hyundai made my car this way and I wasn’t aware of this at the time of purchase and 2) I work a $10 an hour job and cannot afford this kind of purchase. I feel like Hyundai should foot the bill for this kit. I work in an area where car break-ins happen fairly often. Car break-ins happen a lot in the Fayettville NC area. I am very concerned and pray and trust Hyundai will address my concerns and will work toward a resolution for me and other Hyundai owners. Please let me know what Hyundai can do about this. 2 recalls were found on my car and a service campaign. After taking my car to a couple auto shops, within 2 years my car has had the same repair issue involving P010 & P011 codes. After researching and finding there was a service campaign and 2 recalls, I decided to take my car to the dealership due to address the recalls. I took my car in on 8/1 and had a full inspection done on my car. Outside of the normal wear & tear, I was advised that the ECVVT cap was installed incorrectly, that it was leaking oil. I was told that cleaning the oil & reinstalling the cap would correct the problem, it didn’t and I’m out of additional money ($562) and the problem is reoccurring. I’ve called several times recently, as well as one of my mechanics, hadn’t received a return call not until I filed a BBB complaint. It seems they are not honoring or even considering the service campaign (ECVVT Seating issue) and it is my belief, will continue to send me in circles to pay more money. A full inspection was done on my car, wasn’t nothing major but my engine light came back on in route home. I called the advisor and he couldn’t give me a definitive response as to when I could bring my car back & get it checked again. I wanted another appointment time so that I wouldn’t be inconvenienced by sitting at the dealership all day until they decided to check or get to my car again. It took me almost a month to get the 8/1/22 appointment. The staff I spoke with has tried to convince me that the issue with my car has nothing to do with the recalls or the ECVVT service campaign, I disagree especially experiencing the repeated P010 & P011 codes. One of the recalls also was for the ECM.

Vehicle suddenly lost power while in operation. Vehicle was in motion approaching an intersection. When left turn indicator was activated, all lights on the instrument panel illuminated, the engine shut off, and power steering was lost all while the Vehicle was in motion approaching a intersection with stop sign. Vehicle was able to stop before entering the intersection, but would not start again and we were stranded in the middle of the road. Electrical systems appeared to be working. Battery and alternator are functioning normally. After Vehicle sat for 20min, it then was able to start and moved out of the road to a safe location. Vehicle was towed to mechanic that confirmed Battery health and alternator functioning. Vehicle was then taken to dealership for recall 210 safety repair. Dealership service unable to determine cause for loss of power while Vehicle in operation. No explanation, offer of additional service, or remedy has been offered despite requests. I do not feel it is safe to operate this vehicle in the absence of information related to the sudden loss of power during normal operation. Had this occurred in another setting with more traffic or less room for safely coasting to a stop, serious injury or worse could have resulted. The vehicle is still eligible for the 10yr 100k mile powertrain warranty and I am the original owner. We do not feel we can safely operate this vehicle and need guidance on how to proceed with pursuing a remedy to the situation from the vehicle manufacturer.

First I backed up into a pole, because the warning sensor did not warn me. Even while changing lanes it doesn't always warn..The panoramic sunroof detached while driving . I had to pull over . I had to put car in shop for just about a month. And then had to return it because the engine light came on . I have had to take it to the shop several times and I've only owned a year. My navigation never worked . Won't update. And blue link doesn't work right . Even though I pay it out of pocket. And now for no reason it smells like gas badly. Can't take it in because it's my only car and they never have a loaner or rental available. I've been to several hyndai dealerships.

The sunroof exploded while driving on the highway showering the vehicles behind me with glass causing drivers behind me to swerve and or change lanes violently. The explosion was so loud that it caused me to brake hard and to swerve. Hyundai has acknowledged the problem and issued an extended warranty on the sunroof which they are not honoring. My car was inspected by the glass company that repaired the sunroof and after the work was completed, by a Hyundai dealership. There was no warning. The sunroof just violently exploded nearly causing me to loose control of the car. Fortunately I had the sunroof visor closed which kept glass from hitting me and very possibly a loss of control of the vehicle. Can you help me to get Hyundai to honor their warranty?

The powered driver seat returning from a reclined position can get stuck in the recline position for some unknown reason. The seat motor, electrical wiring system and the switch have all been examined and replaced and yet for some unknown reason it continues to occur. Two different mechanics thought it was the switch for the seat being faulty but its been replaced twice and still this issue can occur where the seat after reclining any amount the seat will remain in that recline position for an extended period of time (multiple days) and can if reclined completely, remain in the full reclined position unable to return in the direction so as to raise it to a normal seated position. The seat switch will only recline but will not return back to the seated position to any degree. All of the other swithces and buttons with the drivers side seat continue to remain operational and work even when the seated position direction does not function. To operate a vehicle in the fully reclined position is dangerous as you have no back support while driving, there is also no whiplash protection or support in the event of a collision. It can also impair the drivers ability to reach the pedals or operate the vehicle properly. It also makes the seat behind the driver unusable. Further adding to the danger the seat has no manual options and therefore is unable to be manually returned to the seated position, thus once it is reclined back it remains stuck in that position until the switch begins to function again or the seat is removed. There are no warning lamps or indicators and the seat continues to properly function in the recline direction. Only upon trying to return to a seated position is there any indication of an issue. This has happened at least 3 times in the past year. Repair shops have examined the electrical wiring and the switch and cant seem to keep it from happening

Anytime the car needs a repair on something (fuel pump, inhibitor switch, etc.) in the middle of driving the car will flash "hybrid system warning safely stop and do not drive" and then either slow to 40mph then die, or just die completely. This has happened 3 times before I took it in to be fixed. A few months later, it happens again. It doesn't matter what is wrong with the car, the car just senses an issue and dies in the middle of driving. Very unsafe!

The biggest problem is that the oil is going into the spark plugs this started happening approx 1 year ago and I have been complaining about this to Hyundai to the B.B.B. and the Attny Generals office I am told to take it too hyundai dealership whenI mentioned they will charge me to tell me what I have already been told I was told by Hyundai they can not control there own dealership??? Keep in mind I still owe on this vehicle and have not owned it for even 5 years...The paint is coming off all over the vehicle and the seat belts do not retract as they are suppose too! “Hybrid System Warning” 2 years ago last fall I was out of town & received the above warning - car would not start - car had to be towed - cost was over $500 - repair was a battery - paid out of pocket I believe but all this can be pulled from dealership on memorial in tulsa ok Last fall same thing happened - car would not start with same warning light - towed again & besides being out the tow bill all was repaired I keep getting this alarm that randomly flashes on my screen since last oil change (I asked dealership to research reason for alarm & they found nothing) while driving. I dont want to get stranded again & just want it fixed!!!! I have no where else to turn but to submit a report to hopefully get someone to research this for me. If you need documentation I can get something printed from dealership.

My car has been stalling, hesitating and sometimes I feel the engine shake when using the gas. I brought my car to the dealer to have the most recent recall fixed and asked them to diagnosed what else was going on with my car. They told me the stalling was just due to the recall. However, the very next day my car was acting up again. Additionally, the car at times will accelerate when I am not pressing on the gas. I don't think I need to go into detail about how my safety and the safety of others is compromised when you have a car that accelerates on its own. Lastly, there is no check engine light on. This has been ongoing for several weeks.

Hello, the hood latch / wire / assembly on this make, model has an issue. It gets stuck during the colder months when trying to open the hood. After you pull the latch inside the car; you have to use your finger nails or sometimes a plastic item to pry the hood open and it works almost every time. During warmer weather, the hood opens normally after pulling the latch inside. This is a safety issue. I had and sold a 2016 Hyundai Sonata SE that had the same issue and a buddy of mine also with a 2015 Hyundai Sonata SE had the same problem. Many service technicians at Hyundai said it’s a known issue.

Just smoke started and then flames.

The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was not filed. The contact stated the police department did show up at the location but no police report was filed. The contact stated no one was injured nor sought medical attention. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The abs and traction lights are illuminated on dash with check bsd system warning on dashboard as well. Seems to be common problem with this car. With these lights on the abs system I disabled. Was told it was speed censor and then it was the bsd sensor in bumper. They told me it was in an accident I should file claim with insurance. Sounds like they don't want to repair something faulty . No abs working could mean crash

Check engine light on. Taken to hyundai dealership for recall repairs. At the time, 3 recalls on vehicle. Informed that check engine light was on due to recalls. Dealership kept car for 1½ weeks and notified me that 1 recall (filter) was not completed because parts are on back order. Dealership had me pick up vehicle and said that it is okay to drive car; however, after calling another Dealership, the Service rep informed me that cars should not be driven while engine filter recalls are open because it could potentially further damage vehicle. Vehicle has now been sitting in my garage for over 2 months and I'm making payments for a car I cannot drive.

My brakes locked on the highway and I could not utilize the brakes to slow down the vehicles. I went off the meridian and finally came to a stop. I pumped the brakes and then they started to work again. I was able to cautiously get back on the road and make it to my house but they locked again a few miles later by my exit. I was able to get them to start working again and made it home. There were no warning lamps or messages nor any warning that led me to this. I could’ve easily been in a serious if not fatal crash

On Saturday, October 30, 2021, I was driving down a heavily traveled road with my daughter when my 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport coasted to a stop. I still had power and everything else was still on but the car was just dead and wouldn't start. There were all kinds of indicator lights that were on but I didn't know why my vehicle had just died on me. My son had to put it in neutral and back it off of the busy road we were on and onto a side street into a neighbor so we were in a safe place. We waited for a tow truck for over two hours in the heat. I had it towed to a repair shop unaware of the engine recall that was out on my vehicle. I was told by the repair shop that the oil in my vehicle was black and my engine had seized up.

It seems that the white 2015, 2016 and 2017 models need to be recalled due to a paint issue. From my understanding there is a "defect" with only the white paint and it seems the vehicles are peeling in the same exact spots as I have shown here. I took my vehicle to Hyundai of Greer on Wade Hampton Blvd in Greer, SC and they told me I would have to pay out of pocket to get these spots taken care of because the original manufacturer warranty has expired and CPO warranty will not cover. Clearly there is a defect or flaw in the white paint and consumers should not have to pay for such issue.

Steering column made gravelly noise and felt wrong after service checkup. Finally acknowledged and fixed (no charge: paid $1600 for extended warranty on purchase 5 years ago) a month later. Horn honks briefly and intermittently sometimes after stop after service checkup. Not yet acknowledged or fixed. Tried to charge an exorbitant amount for service, despite our having an extended free warranty, and refused us a loaner car. Service horrible.

I just got my 2015 Sonata Hybrid in April. Most every time I try to accelerate from a stopping point, the car will not go for at least 3 seconds. I had to sit through a whole green light once because it just wouldn't go. I've pulled out onto highways, needing to pick up speed only to not go at all causing others to nearly smash into me. Also, It can not drive up hills. Twice i have been stopped at a stop sign on a hill and my car would just not go. I had to literally put it in reverse and go back down. One time I had a line of traffic back up behind me. I didnt know what to do! The absolute worst and scariest thing is the car not going when I'm making turns. My daughter and i were almost tboned trying to make a left turn into a driveway. The car just wouldn't go. All I could do was watch this huge truck heading straight for my daughters door. Finally, seconds before we would have been hit, the car decided to gom Sickening!! I have tried everything from cutting off the Blue Drive and EV mode to using the slap stick. Nothing seems to make a difference. I have an appointment with the dealership next week.

I'm really at wit's end with what is going on with my car. My car is currently at 104K, its a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport. A beautiful car with an abundance of serious issues. I've had trouble with my car accelerating for over a month and I've taken it to at least 5 mechanics who have troubled shooted with no success to fixing the issue. The problem: my car hesitates significantly when accelerating and sometimes when it's can't shift gears and I'm easing my foot on and off the gas pedal, it begins to shake while attempting to accelerate. I try not to put the car in sport mode but sometimes this mode is what helps the car shift gears but I don't think this good for the car. So far I've tried changing all of my spark plugs and coils replaced, fuel injectors cleaned (dealership), transmission fluid changed and ECM updated (dealership). Also, the Hyundai dealership diagnosed the issues as an engine problem (intake exhaust and timing chain + tensioner) --- cost of all these things almost $4000!! I just don't understand why the check engine light is not coming on -- which is hinting at the local mechanics that it might be a transmission based issue. No the check engine light has not come on but the car drives really poorly. I'm taking it to a transmission shop and hopefully going to get some answers as to what is going on. This issue is absolutely frustrating and now I'm just looking for real direction by waiting to see if the engine light will come one and throw a code

CAR WAS SERVICED AT CERTIFIED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP ON 1/10/20 FOR RECALL WORK AND TO INVESTIGATE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT THAT WOULD COME ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. REPAIR SHOP CLAIMED THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK AND RECOMMENDED AN OIL CHANGE/VALVE COVER GASKET REPLACEMENT (LAST OIL CHANGE JUST UNDER 5000 MILES PRIOR). CAR BEGAN SMELLING AS IF SOMETHING WAS BURNING LATER AFTER LEAVING REPAIR SHOP, AS WELL AS THE NEXT DAY, SO SHOP WAS CALLED BACK ON 1/11/20 AND MESSAGE WAS LEFT THAT IT NEEDED TO BE BROUGHT BACK IN ON MONDAY MORNING (1/13/20). OIL PRESSURE LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON, HOWEVER, NOR DID ANY OTHER WARNING LIGHTS. CAR WAS DRIVEN SPARINGLY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD PRIMARILY FOR WORK PURPOSES OVER THE WEEKEND AND PARKED AFTER APPROX. 12 MINUTE COMMUTE HOME FROM WORK ON SUNDAY EVENING (1/12/20). I RETURNED A LITTLE OVER AN HOUR LATER TO DISCOVER THE SITUATION AND LEARNED THAT THE FIRE DEPT. HAD ALREADY COME AND GONE. IMMEDIATELY CALLED POLICE/FIRE DEPT. TO FIND OUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND WAS INFORMED THAT NEIGHBORS HAD CALLED THE POLICE DUE TO SEEING IT ON FIRE ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES AFTER I HAD PARKED THE CAR. I AM UNCLEAR OF THE EXACT NATURE OF THE PROBLEM, THOUGH OIL APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN LEAKING (AND BURNING - SOME LIGHT SMOKE WAS VISIBLE UNDER HOOD ON 1/11 & 1/12) AFTER REPAIRS, AND FIRE IS SAID TO HAVE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. INSURANCE COMPANY WAS IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED AS WELL AND DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS AND TOWED IT AWAY FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION AS TO CAUSE OF FIRE ON 1/14/20. DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS SERVICED 2 DAYS PRIOR IS OF CONCERN SINCE CAR APPEARED IN WORSE CONDITION AFTER REPAIRS THAN BEFORE, BUT I AM UNCERTAIN OF THEIR LIABILITY IN THIS CASE.

AT FIRST IT IS INTERMITTENT BUT EVENTUALLY IT SIMPLY STAYS THAT WAY ONCE THE ISSUE BEGINS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING, HENCE THE CAR WILL HAVE AN ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TIME RETAINING SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY OR ACCELERATING AT A LIGHT OR AS YOU MERGE ONTO HIGHWAYS. CHANGING THE DRIVER MODE TO SPORT APPEARS TO HAVE A POSITIVE EFFECT AS IT CAUSES MUCH MORE AGGRESSIVE GEAR SHIFTING BUT IT THEN STAYS IN THE SAME GEAR FOR TOO LONG REACHING RPS THAT FEEL UNSAFE FOR THE ENGINE ITSELF. THIS IS NOW THE THIRD TIE THIS HAPPENS AND IT IS ALSO THE MORE SEVERE MANIFESTATION OF THE PROBLEM,. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER ASSERTED THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE IT BUT RETURNED THE CAR WITHOUT THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED THEY APOLOGIZED AND SAID THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINES COMPUTER ALGORITHM, THAT APPARENTLY THE COMPUTER LEARNS FROM THE WAY IN WHICH ONE DRIVES AND SO IS ADAPTIVE BUT THAT SOMETIMES IT CAN BECOME CORRUPTED. THIS THIRD TIME THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WOULD TAKE ONLY A COUPLE OF HOURS TO FIX BUT NOW IT HAS BEEN THREE DAYS AND THEY HAVE NOT CALLED ME BACK. THEY DID LEAVE A MESSAGE THAT APPARENTLY THEY ARE ORDERING PARTS AND WILL BE FIXING IT. MY ISSUE NOW IS THAT ITS A THIRD TIME AND IT IS CLEAR THAT SOMETHING IN THE CAR IS DEFECTIVE AND NOW WE ARE GOING TO BE ALMOST COMPLETELY PARANOID OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN AT A CRITICALLY DANGEROUS INTERSECTION OR MERGE AREA. IT IS FRIDAY AND NOW I AM STUCK 4 1/2 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME AND THE DEALER SAID HE WON'T BE ABLETO GET TO MY CAR TO DIAGNOSE IT UNTIL MONDAY BC HIS SATURDAY HOURS ARE BOOKE FOR OIL CHANGES AND OTHER CUSTOMER APPOINTMENTS. SO NOW I WILL HAVE TO RENT A VEHICHLE UNTIL AT LEAST MONDAY. HE WILL NOT GIVE ME A LINES UNTIL DIAGNOSED. THEN SAID I COULD NOT HAVE ONE BECAUSE I'M OUT OF STATE. THEY WANTED ME TO PAY $150 TO REMOVE THE REAR BUMPER TO CHECK IT. HE SAID IF IT WAS A PROBLEM THERE I WOULD MOST LIKELY HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AS IT WAS LIKELY MY FAULT. I THEN NOTICED THAT WHEN DRIVING THE CAR THE MANUAL TACHOMETER WAS WORKING AND SPEEDOMETER SHOWED THE ACTUAL SPEED OF CAR OF 40 MPH WHILE THE ELECTRONIC DISPLAY SHOWED THE SPEED OF 65 MPH. WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED I COULD NOT SCROLL THROUGH THE MENUS ON THE ELECTRONIC DISPLAY AND THE ONLY THING SHOWING WAS 65 MPH. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE CAR AND THE DISPLAY STILL SHOWED 65 MPH EVEN THOUGH CAR WAS OFF AND DOORS WERE OPEN. AFTER STARTING THE CAR AGAIN TO DETERMINE IF WORKING, ALL FUNCTIONS STOPPED WORKING. THE CAR SHOWED TRAVELING AT 65 MPH, EVEN THOUGH DRIVING TO PARKING SPOT, AND THE TACHOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, GAS LEFT INDICATOR, CAR MILEAGE, TEMPERATURE DISPLAY ALL STOPPED WORKING. THE RADIO AND NAVIGATION CONTINUED TO WORK AS DID SIGNALS. I HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER AS IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE. AFTER CAR CAME OFF TOW TRUCK, ALL FUNCTIONS RETURNED. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THE CAR, BUT IT WAS SOMETHING ONLY THE SERVICE AREA COULD SEE AND THE CUSTOMERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF ISSUE FOR A RECALL. ON THE PAPERWORK THEY INDICATE IT IS 'CAMPAIGN HE1000 ' REFER TO LINE B.' A RECALL CAMPAIGN MUST BE SENT TO CUSTOMERS AS THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND COULD POTENTIALLY BE DANGEROUS TO OWNERS. I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY, BUT THAT WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE CASE LATER IN THE WEEK. POTENTIAL LIVES ARE BEING PUT AT RISK.

THREW ON MY HAZARDS AND THE SCREEN INDICATED I SHOULD PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTART. THE BATTERY LIGHT AND MASTER INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. CAR RESTARTED AND THE LIGHTS DISAPPEARED. WENT STRAIGHT TO HYUNDAI DEALER. THEY ATTEMPTED A 17 MILE ROAD TEST THE NEXT DAY AFTER THE CAR SAT OVERNIGHT AND IT DID NOT REPEAT THE ISSUE. NOTHING WAS STORED IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM FROM WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON. THEY HAVE NO EXPLANATION. OIL WAS CHANGED AND TOOK CAR BACK AT 5PM THE DAY AFTER THE ISSUE TOOK PLACE. DROVE 24 MILES TO WORK TODAY AND IT DID NOT REPEAT YET.

MY SONATA HAS STARTED STALLING AND SHUTTING DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPED WAS DEC 12TH. I JUST FINISHED ACCELERATING FROM ABOUT 35MPH TO 60MPH. THERE THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD THUMP AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. SECONDS LATER I LOST POWER STEERING, DASH LIGHTS, AND HEADLIGHTS. THE CAR RESTARTED WITHOUT ISSUE. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED ON DEC. 16TH WHILE TRAVELING AT A CONSTANT 30MPH. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS BEFORE, EXCEPT THE VEHICLE DID NOT SHAKE OR CREATE A LOUD NOISE BEFORE SHUTTING DOWN. MILEAGE WAS AT 75980. TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE 20'S. I TOOK THE CAR DO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WAS DEC 29TH. I WAS TRAVELING AT 20MPH AND COASTING TO A STOPLIGHT. IT WAS 19 DEG OUTSIDE AND THE MILEAGE WAS AROUND 76800. SO FAR THE CAR HAS NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE WEATHER IS ABOVE FREEZING. LOWER TEMPS MIGHT BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROBLEM BUT NOT LIKELY TO BE THE PRIMARY CAUSE. IN ALL CASES THE CAR WAS AT OPERATING TEMP AND WAS RUNNING FOR MORE THEN 30 MIN. IT HAS NOT YET SHUT OFF WHILE ACCELERATING. ONLY MAINTAINING SPEED OR COASTING. ABOUT A TWO MONTHS AGO THE DEALER DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO A CLAIMED RECALL. THE ISSUE STARTED ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS LATER THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. I DID FIND SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS WHILE SEARCHING.

THERE IS A CONTINUAL FLUTTERING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH WAS NOT HEARD WHEN THIS VEHICLE WAS FIRST PURCHASED. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER TO CHECK WHAT THE NOISE IS, THE SERVICE REP, TIFFANY, HEARD THE NOISE ALSO WHEN I STARTED MY ENGINE & LET IT RUN. HOWEVER, WHEN SERVICE WAS COMPLETED, I WAS TOLD THAT THE SERVICEPERSON COULD NOT REPLICATE IT. THIS IS CONTINUAL AND DOESN'T STOP. I WAS TOLD THE ENGINE WAS CHECKED AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR A NOISE OF THIS TYPE BEING ISSUED. AS A MATTER OF FACT, AFTER THEY CHECKED THIS, THE NOISE WAS EVEN LOUDER AND I HAVE TO KEEP THE RADIO ON TO BLOCK IT OUT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT RESTARTED I DROVE IT STRAIGHT HOME; THE NEXT MORNING, IT RESTARTED JUST FINE, BUT I WAS RELUCTANT TO DRIVE IT AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY HAVE KEPT IT AND DRIVEN IT FOR 150 MILES SINCE THEN, AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. NO ERROR CODES HAVE SHOWN UP ON DIAGNOSTICS.

YOU CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR WITH THIS ISSUE AS IT CAN SUCK IN A FOREIGN OBJECT INTO THE TURBO VANES AND BEND THEM, CAUSING PERMANENT DAMAGE THAT MAY NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS DEALERSHIP DID ALL MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS & HAD CAR A TOTAL OF 7 TIMES FOR THE SAME COMPLAINT OF THE CAR 'BUCKING,' LIKE IT IS HARD TO SHIFT INTO THE NEXT GEAR.I WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMPUTER PART & IT HAD BEEN REPLACED, YET THE PROBLEM CONTINUED, OTHER TIMES I WAS TOLD THERE NOTHING COULD BE DETECTED AS WRONG. MY 7TH TRIP, THE DEALERSHIP KEPT IT FOR 6-7 WEEKS WHEN THEY DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH WAS DEFECTIVE, THEN THEY 'LOST' THE NEW TRANSMISSION, BEFORE FINALLY FIXED IT. I DRIVE 100 MILES DAILY TO & FROM WORK AM FEARFUL THAT SOMETHING WOULD BE WRONG. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A FAR AWAY 18 WHEELER WHEN THE CAR WOULD NOT FORWARD. I REPORTED ALL OF THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I REQUESTED TO SPEAK WITH GENERAL MANAGER AT LEAST 3 TIMES & WAS ALWAYS TOLD HE WAS OUT, THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM LEAVE AFTER SAYING HE WAS NOT THERE. SO, AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS 'FIXED' IN FEBRUARY. I CALLED CORPORATE & WAS TOLD THIS IS THE WAY THIS VEHICLE DRIVES AS IT HAS A SEMI-AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I AM DRIVING A RENTAL WITH SAME ENGINE & DOES NOT BEHAVE LIKE MY MINE. WITHIN A FEW DAYS, THE CAR BEGAN STALLING WHEN TRYING TO EXCEL AND THE 'CHECK ENGINE LIGHT' CAME ON. ON THE INTERSTATE, WE SLOWED DOWN AND AGAIN IT WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. I BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP & IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR TWO WEEKS (MARCH 25TH) & THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. CORPORATE OFFERED ME $500.00 IN 'FREE' SERVICE DUE TO IT THE PROBLEMS. I DO NOT THINK THAT IS COMPENSATION. CORP HAS AGREED TO BUY CAR BACK APPROX. 2-3 WKS AGO DUE TO CONTINUED PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE PROCESS WOULD TAKE 6-8 WEEKS. I HAVE EMAILED/CALLED SINCE IT IS IN THE SHOP TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS WITHOUT RESPONSE.

THE ARTICLE STATED THAT IF YOU ALLOW YOUR BLUE SUBSCRIPTION TO BE EXPIRED FOR MORE THAN ONE YEAR, HYUNDAI WOULD POSSIBLY PERMANENTLY DEACTIVATE YOUR BLUE LINK SYSTEM. MY SUBSCRIPTION HAD EXPIRED, SO I CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND REACTIVATED MY SUBSCRIPTION FOR ONE YEAR FOR $99. I WAS CONCERNED THAT IF THE BLUE LINK SYSTEM WAS PERMANENTLY DEACTIVATED IN MY CAR, THE RESALE VALUE OF MY CAR WOULD GO DOWN. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS ISSUE UNTIL I READ THE ARTICLE LAST EVENING.

THE CAR HAS ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING ERRATICALLY. THERE IS A VERY LOUD CHATTERING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. IT IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF IS CONSTANTLY CREAKING WHENEVER DRIVING ON UNEVEN PAVEMENT. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR CHECK ENGINE ISSUES SINCE IT WAS THREE MONTHS OLD ALL RELATED TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND VCM. ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE DASH FLASHED "CHECK TPMS" MEANING CHECK AIR IN THE TIRES. ON ALL 3 OCCASIONS THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR.THE NEXT OCCASION THE CHECK TPMS CAME ON SO I PUT AIR IN THE TIRES AND DROVE AROUND THE CORNER TO RESET THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR (COMPUTER). UPON COMING AROUND THE CORNER TO PARK THE CAR THE CHECK TPMS WARNING CAME ON AGAIN THE CAR POWERED DOWN AND I COASTED TO PARK. THE NEXT MORNING I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED I WAS TOLD FROM JARED THAT THE TECHNICIAN DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THAT " HE THINKS, MAYBE, MIGHT HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. AT THIS POINT I DID NOT PICK UP THE CAR BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THE CAR HAD BEEN FIXED AND THAT IT WILL NOT DIE WHILE DRIVING AROUND HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY WERE NOT SURE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM I HAD WITH THE CAR. I LEFT THE CAR THERE CONTACTED HYNDAI CORPORATE WHERE THEY OPENED A CASE #9327831 .. THEY IN TURN HAD A FAST TEAM WORKING ON MY CAR AND THEY ARE NOT SURE IF THE CAR IS FIXED OR NOT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR A MONTH NOW STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I WAS TOLD IT DOES NOT FALL UNDER LEMON LAW UNLESS THE CAR DOES THE SAME THING AGAIN. IT TOOK ONLY A FEW SECONDS TO REALIZE WHAT HAD HAPPENED, UPON ROLLING THE WINDOW UP STABILITY RETURNED INSTANTLY. TO TEST IF WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS REAL I PURPOSELY LET DOWN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DOWN AND THE EXTREMELY LOUD NOISE AND INSTABILITY IMMEDIATELY RETURNED AND JUST AS QUICKLY DISAPPEARED WHEN I LET UP THE REAR WINDOW. THE A/C WAS ON, WHETHER OR NOT THAT EFFECTED THE PROBLEM, I DON'T KNOW. THE WHOLE EPISODE SCARRED ME AND MY WIFE SO BAD WE ARE NOW LOOKING FOR ANOTHER CAR. I AM NOT EXAGGERATING THIS INCIDENT. THE WHOLE REAR END OF THE CAR SEEMED AS IF IT WAS BEING HIT FROM EACH SIDE INDEPENDENTLY CAUSING THE REAR END TO SHIFT ABOUT A FOOT FROM LEFT TO RIGHT . I WILL NOT BE KEEPING THIS CAR.

ON MAY 30, 2016 AT AROUND 9 PM I STOPPED MY 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE DIED. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON UNTIL THE ENGINE DIED. AFTER ABOUT TWO MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. I TURNED LEFT AT THE INTERSECTION WHERE MY CAR HAD STALLED AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. EXITED THE CAR AND WAVED TRAFFIC BY. TWO MORE MINUTES AND THE ENGINE STARTED AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE THREE REMAINING BLOCKS TO MY HOME. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO OURISMAN HYUNDAI WHERE I BOUGHT IT. THEY HAVE HAD IT EVER SINCE. TODAY, JUNE 6, OURISMAN CALLED AND SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND I SHOULD RETURN THE LOANER CAR AND PICK UP MY SONATA. I WILL NOT PICK UP A SONATA THAT DIES IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. I WOULD LIKE TO LIVE. I CALLED HYUNDAI AMERICA AND REPORTED THE ISSUE AND THEY OPEN D A CASE FILE. I HAVE LEFT MESSAGES WITH THE GM AT OURISMAN AND HE HAS NOT RETURNED MY CALLS. OH, I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR (IT WAS A YEAR OLD) I TOLD THE SALESMAN THAT I DID NOT WANT A HERTZ, AVIS OR ANY OTHER RENTAL CAR. HE ASSURED ME IT WAS NOT PURCHASED FROM A CAR RENTAL COMPANY. AFTER OVER 5 HOURS AT THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD IT HAD BEEN FROM A RENTAL COMPANY. I WAS WORN OUT AND THOUGHT IT STILL HAD FOUR YEARS LEFT ON THE WARRANTY. I FEEL LIKE A FOOL. I HAVE ASKED HYUNDAI AMERICA TO BUY MY CAR BACK.

I WAS PARKING MY 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA TURBO SPORT IN A STRIP MALL PARKING LOT. I PULLED INTO THE SPACE AND, BEFORE GETTING IN ALL THE WAY, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO A HIGH SPEED, JUMPED THE CONCRETE CURB AND SLAMMED INTO A CONCRETE WALL. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND MY CHEST HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND MY HEAD WHIPPED BACK SO I NOW HAVE HEADACHES, NECK AND BACK PAIN.THE FRONT BUMPER WAS DAMAGED WITH MARKS FROM THE CONCRETE AND THOUGH IT REMAINED ON THE CAR, IT WAS DISLODGED. THERE WAS ALSO SOME DAMAGE AROUND THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS AND THE RUBBER PART OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE.

I WAS ADMITTED INTO THE HOSPITAL, WHERE I HAD SURGERY AND WAS TOLD I HAD A HEMORRHAGIC STROKE. OCTOBER 2015, I HAD 2 MORE STROKES AND SURGERIES. I NEVER HAD A HISTORY OF STROKES, AND WAS WONDERING COULD THIS BE A PART OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE WITH THE CHEMICAL EXPOSURE FROM THE NEW VEHICLE? ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASSONS THE VEHICLE WAS ON A MAJOR STREET WHEN IT JUST DIED.THE FIRST TIME WAS COMNG OUT OF A STOP AT A RED LIGHT, THE SECOND JUST WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND THE THIRD TIME WHLE I WAS DEACCELARATING. MIRACULALOUSLY I WAS ABLE TO USE THE LAST BIT OF MOMENTUM AND PULL OVER. THE CAR STARTED UP AGAIN EACH TME. THE DEALER HAD NO SUGGESTIONS THE FIRST 2 TIMES EXCEPT FOR POSSBLE COMPUTER MISFIRE.THEY RELEASED THE CAR STAITNG IT SHOULD BE FINE AND THEY COULD NOT REPLCATE THE EVENT.AFTER STARTING A CASE WITH HYUNDAI THEY DECIDED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION COILS AND THEN THE FUEL PUMP. AFTER MUCH QUESTIONINGAND LITTLE COOPERAION FROM HYUNDAI OR THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT 1500 PEOPLE REPRTED THE SAME LIFE THREATENENING EVENT ONN THIER CAR. NOT ENOUGH FOR A RECALL!!!SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. NEITHER THE DEALER OR HYUNDAI THINKS THIS IS AN ISSUE.CASE NUMBER 8479377.I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE CASE ENGINEER FROM HYUNDAI EXPLAINING ANY REPAIRS AS PROMISED. HYUNDAI IS UNRESPONSIVE. I AM WRITING IN REGARDS TO MY NEW 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA ECO THAT I PURCHASED IN MAY 2015 FROM MCCARTHY HYUNDAI AUTOMOTIVE IN OLATHE, KANSAS. SHORTLY AFTER BRINGING IT HOME, I NOTICED THAT EACH TIME THE CAR WAS STARTED ON A COLD START, IT WOULD HESITATE AND PAUSE UPON ACCELERATION WHEN I WOULD TAKE OFF. AFTER THE CAR WARMED UP, IT WAS MUCH BETTER BUT STILL WOULD PAUSE AND HESITATE SOMETIMES WHEN I WAS NEEDING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY. I TOOK THE CAR 4 SEPARATE TIMES TO MCCARTHY HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPT. IN OLATHE. EACH TIME, THEY WOULD ONLY SAY THAT THE CAR IS 'OPERATING AS DESIGNED' AND THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NEW ECO'S SINCE THEY HAVE THE DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION. WE DROVE 4 OTHER ECO'S AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY DID ADMIT THAT IT SEEMED ABNORMAL AND POSSIBLY A PATCH/UPDATE WILL COME OUT IN THE FUTURE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS COULD TAKE MANY YEARS OR NOT AT ALL. THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING. ONE OF THE TIMES THAT THE CAR WAS AT THEIR SERVICE CENTER, THEY DID FIND A FAULTY FUEL PUMP AND REPLACED IT. THIS ALONE DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE THAT I AM EXPERIENCING WITH THE CAR. MY MAIN CONCERN AT THIS POINT IS THE SAFETY ISSUE. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE CAR WILL OR WON'T HESITATE AND PAUSE UPON ACCELERATION. I LIVE IN A METROPOLITAN AREA AND DRIVE IN A LOT OF TRAFFIC. THERE ARE MANY TIMES THAT I NEED TO BE ABLE TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND MANY OTHER REASONS WHEN I MUST DEPEND ON MY CAR ACCELERATING LIKE A NORMAL CAR DOES. IT DOES NOT. IF THERE IS ANY WAY THAT YOU CAN HELP OR LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE WITH THE 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA ECO'S, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. IT COULD SAVE LIVES.

I BOUGHT THIS NEW CAR A FEW MONTHS AGO. AT 1089 MILES ENGINE OVERHEATED WHILE IN TRAFFIC. I MANAGE TO STOP SAFELY AND I CALLED ROADSIDE TO TOW THE CAR TO SERVICE. SECOND DAY THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI TECH LINE. THIS FOR ME WAS A RED FLAG THAT SOMETHING IS REALLY WRONG WITH THAT CAR. THEY FOUND COOLANT INSIDE THE ENGINE AND THIS WAS THEIR DIAGNOSIS, JSUT LIKE THIS. THE REPLACED THE ENGINE WITH A REMANUFACTURED ONE AND FEW WEEKS LATER I ENDED UP IN SERVICE AGAIN FOR COOLANT LEAKS. THEY REPLACED 2 BIG HOUSES. NOT LONG AFTER THIS I ENDED UP AGAIN IN SERVICE CAUSE COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW ON THE OVERFILL COMPARTMENT. THEY SAID IS NOTHING WRONG AND ALL THE TESTS ARE GOOD. SO I TOOK THE CAR AND A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER THE SAME. THEY TOLD ME THE SAME STORY. WELL THE CAR OVERHEATED AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN TILL EVERYTHING STARTED TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING MELTED AND SOME KIND OF SMOKE CAME OUT FROM INSIDE THE ENGINE WHEN YOU OPEN THE OIL CAP. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN SERVICE FOR MORE THAN 3 WEEKS WITH NO RESOLUTION SO FAR. I REPORTED COOLANT ISSUES FROM THE BEGINNING BUT HYUNDAI REFUSE TO LISTED AND KEPT SAYING IS NOTHING WRONG. I CONSIDER THIS S HUGE ISSUES AND CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO GET ON FIRE OR ENGINE TO EXPLODE. I HOPE TO GET THIS DONE UNDER LEMON LAW BUT HYUNDAI IS STUBBORN AND WE MIGHT END UP IN COURT. IN THE MEAN TIME I AM PAYING FOR THE 7 MONTHS FOR A DEFECTIVE PROBLEM NOT TO MENTION THE VALUE AFTER ALL THESE MAJOR ISSUES.
