Engine oil consumption issues. My 2018 Hyundai Elantra falls within the dates of this issue. I had an oil consumption issue done and the dealership claimed it passed. I have to put oil in my car every 3 weeks and change spark plugs at the same time because of engine leaking oil in to them. My engine light is always on, knocking and pinging sound, poor performance issues, and blue smoke coming out of tail pipe. I have stuck on the side of the highway several times and have misses work because of the ongoing issues with the engine. How can a oil consumption issue pass and i have all these issues. I have spent several hundreds of dollars on oil, spark plugs, frequent oil changes and tows. There was only 85,000 miles when I started to notice the problem and had only owned it for 6 months.
While driving on the highway, my 2018 Hyundai Sonata experienced sudden loss of engine power and became undrivable. The failure occurred without warning at approximately 86,500 miles. At the time of the incident, there were two children in the vehicle, and the breakdown occurred at night in cold temperatures (approximately 20°F). An authorized Hyundai dealership later diagnosed zero compression in cylinder 3 and confirmed a cracked piston, recommending full engine replacement. The sudden loss of power while driving created a safety risk due to traffic conditions and environmental exposure.
I bought this vehicle as a certified pre-owned from a Hyundai dealership on 09/10/2022 with 32,677 miles. Around 85,000 miles, it began burning an excessive amount of oil—about two quarts per month. Now, with approximately 101,000 miles, it still burns two quarts weekly, oil is being expelled from the muffler, and the exhaust has started to glow red. I have tried contacting Hyundai but have not received any response.
Car started misfiring while driving and engine light came on. It kept losing power but I was able to pull off highway. This put myself and others in danger because speed was significantly reduced suddenly. Dealer said problem was due to oil leaking on spark plugs. The car had been using excessive oil. Dealer said this is known issue but I had to pay for any repairs since I was the second owner. Hyundai still pays for the original owner to get an oil consumption cleaning, but recently stopped paying for secondary owners. If the oil consumption cleaning does not work, then the next step is to replace engine, paid by customer if Hyundai refuses. Mileage on car is 75,769.
I am submitting a formal complaint regarding ongoing and severe engine issues with my 2018 Hyundai Sonata SE. Despite proper maintenance, the vehicle has developed extreme oil consumption and misfire problems that have made the car unreliable, unsafe, and financially burdensome. Beginning around 118,000 miles, the vehicle started consuming oil so rapidly that I was forced to completely replace the oil every 1–2 weeks because it would run dangerously low or nearly empty. This level of oil loss is not normal, acceptable, or sustainable. I have detailed documentation, receipts, mileage logs, and maintenance history supporting this. In addition to oil consumption, the vehicle has repeatedly misfired, produced diagnostic trouble codes, and fouled spark plugs with oil. I have been forced to replace spark plugs approximately every two weeks, which is clearly abnormal for any modern vehicle. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has experienced violent knocking noises, severe loss of power, hesitation during acceleration, and near-stalling. One incident was so loud and aggressive that it felt like the engine was going to come out of the hood. These symptoms pose a serious safety risk while driving. I brought the car to a Hyundai dealership at approximately 118,000 miles for an oil-consumption test. The vehicle failed that test, clearly confirming excessive oil consumption. Despite this, Hyundai refused to provide repair, internal engine cleaning, or engine replacement, claiming the vehicle was already over 100,000 miles I have maintained this vehicle responsibly and have documentation of regular oil changes, spark-plug replacements, inspections, and diagnostic reports. Despite my efforts, the issue continues to worsen, and the vehicle remains unsafe and unreliable. This ongoing problem has caused significant financial strain, emotional stress, lost time, and fear of engine failure while driving. Based on countless similar complaints from other Hyundai owners, this appear
My 2018 Hyundai Sonata’s oil light flashed briefly while driving, so I checked the oil level and found the dipstick completely dry. The car has been maintained regularly and was still about 1,000 miles away from its next scheduled oil change. There are no visible leaks, and the engine is not smoking. I had to immediately add oil to prevent engine damage. This appears to be a case of excessive oil consumption, which I have since learned is common in Hyundai Sonatas with this engine. I am very concerned that low oil pressure could cause engine failure or sudden loss of power while driving, creating a serious safety hazard. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue for 2018 Sonatas, as many owners are reporting similar experiences, and Hyundai has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 23-EM-008H) about excessive oil consumption but no recall.
Unknown. 2018 Hyundai Sonata engine has failed. Only purchased the vehicle in December 2024, and the engine is defective. There is much information, via research, indicating that Hyundai is aware of the engine issues with this year vehicle, but are unwilling to make amends. Vehicle has 100,189 miles.
Engine consumes oil, more than 1 quart a week. started misfiring on a trip and dealer stated that engine needs to be replaced since valve was burnt. have 116k miles on car and have been diligent in maintenance.
I bought my daughter this car a little over a year ago to drive to college. A few weeks after we bought the car we noticed the engine oil was low. We began checking it and had to continuously add more oil between oil changes. Now we are having to put 1-1 1/2 quarts of oil in her car every week. It also smokes when it's first crank and when accelerating. I am worried it will break down on her while driving to or from school, or in the middle of an intersection where she could be run over or hurt. We now owe more money than it is supposed to be worth, and we are stuck. When the oil gets low there are no warning lights or anything that comes on to let us know it's low. We have to keep a constant check on it. From what I am seeing online, this is a common problem with the engines in these cars. So many people are having their engines blow, and it also causes the catalytic converters to go out on these cars. We are not the 1st owners, and it is not u Der warranty, so hyundai won't do anything to help us. Even if they did, they are charging people around $1000 to clean the engine and then making people do oil consumption tests where they over fill the oil so that it doesn't run out in the time they make you drive it. This company is not standing behind there cars and they know these engines have problems! The car is available for inspection.
In December 2024, my 2018 Hyundai Sonata went into limp mode after the knock sensor was triggered. This happened when my son was driving home from school. I took it to my local mechanic and he said the car was low on oil. We put more oil in it and reset the sensor. In March, the knock sensor was triggered and it again went into limp mode while my son was driving back to school. We took it into a shop and it was again low on oil. Oil was added and then the sensor was reset. The sensor went off again later in March and our mechanic told us to take it to Hyundai and have it checked for the rod bearing issue common with this model and year of Hyundai. He cleared the error and when I contacted the dealer, they said they needed the warning lights on to do a diagnosis. The car was driven for 4 months and the knock sensor went off again. I took it to the dealer and they checked the bearing clearance and it passed the test. The oil was also low and the dealer recommended doing a combustion chamber clean. I spent $564 to get the combustion chamber cleaned. Less than three weeks later, the knock sensor went off again. I took it to the dealer and they measured the bearing clearances and they came back as "passed". I elevated the complaint to Hyundai and they responded that they will defer to the dealer technicians' recommendations and findings and did not offer to do anything to help. The dealer the drove the car to see if they could trigger the knock sensor which was unsuccessful. After expressing my disappointment and dissatisfaction, the dealer said there was nothing else they could do and the car was returned to me. I am concerned with the safety of this vehicle as entering Limp Mode on a highway represents a safety issue that Hyundai does not seem to be concerned about.
While driving my vehicle one day, the engine blew out. This was caused by a malfunction from connecting rod bearing wear. I could have easily been rear ended. Hyundai was aware of the issue, but it was never resolved for me at least. They stated this in a letter addressed to me. There no warning lamps .
It has oil consumption issues
Oil consumption was ridiculously high, changing oil/topping off oil constantly. Car would not accelerate over 30 mph without sputtering and rumbling. I had mechanic diagnose bad sparks plugs due to sitting in oil from leaking. After I had them repaired/replaced the car drove great for 1 day, then decided to die in the middle of a busy intersection while I had my teenage son in the car with me. My son and I had to PUSH it out of the busy intersection onto a side street to get out of the way! I had it towed to Hyundai dealer who said the spark plugs were bad and that the fuel pressure sensor and gdi pump were faulty and needed replacement. Left front lower control arm/ball joint assembly also requires fix. To the tune of $3000 + . It’s been at dealer for past few months until I can afford the repairs including the 2nd diagnostic and tow it took to get it to dealership.
Summary of the Problem: My 2018 Hyundai Sonata has a serious engine defect related to excessive oil consumption. Despite proper maintenance, the vehicle consumes large amounts of oil between service intervals. This has caused the engine to seize and the car’s software to restrict speed to 40 mph while driving, creating a dangerous situation on public roads. Details: Vehicle purchased from an authorized Hyundai dealer in Massachusetts (second owner). Issue first identified around 65,000 miles. Inspected multiple times at Stevens Creek Hyundai (San Jose, CA). Service center confirmed this is a known internal engine issue but refused to replace or repair unless the engine completely fails. I was told to “keep topping up oil,” which is not a safe or permanent solution. Safety Concern: Sudden engine seizure or restricted speed while driving could result in an accident, especially on highways. This defect places me and my family at serious risk of injury or death. Requested Action: I urge NHTSA to investigate Hyundai’s handling of this engine defect and require Hyundai to repair or replace affected engines before they fail, regardless of ownership status. Consumers should not have to wait for catastrophic engine failure to receive assistance.
Purchased a 2018 Sonata Sport in 2022 not knowing oil consumption was an issue. After noticing that my oil was low after I would get an oil change made me very suspicious. Drove to a Hyundai Service Center and paid out of pocket for a diagnostic. Was told cracked oil pan but they never performed any of the standard diagnostics for the high oil consumption. We ordered the oil pan and scheduled service, told we were good to drive & still till this day of 9/5/2025 I'm still putting oil in my car because it just burns through it. I am scared that this car leaves me on the side on the road with my kids. Also when I bought the car in march 29 2022 that car has given me nothing but problems with oil consumption, non stop spark plugs replaced & knocking. I have a video of the knocking & I’ve even asked Hyundai when I brought it in they couldn’t find the issue. They even ran dye through my engine to see if it had any leaks & it had none. So where is the oil going & why is my engine knocking?

The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle shuddered before losing automotive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine and NOx sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer on several occasions for the repair; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

My 2018 Sonata has had an oil consumption problem since 2023. We initially thought it was the oil change garage issues. Had an oil consumption study conducted by Hyundai between July -September 2024. We were replacing 1,0 -1.5 qt oil every 700 - 1,300 miles. After the study, Hyundai told me I did not have an oil consumption problem. (Seriously?!?!) We had to replace the starter and now the spark plugs. Photo enclosed of how burnt the spark plugs were. Our mechanic was so mad that Hyundai was not honoring their warranty but allowing my engine and connected parts to just burn up. Hyundai told me to come in for another check tomorrow, 8/25/25. I called the Hyundai Consumer line on 8/18/25 (4th new case number in 13 months) and the person who answered the phone asked if I contacted a lawyer. I asked her if I needed to contact a ? I’ve been reading online about this problem today and found information about NHTSA and decided to file a complaint. This is dangerous because when the engine blows, I may be accelerating on the interstate and merging. That could be a fatal problem with this car. Traveling on the interstate on 8/10/2025 my Sonata stuttered and hesitated upon acceleration. We took back roads and limped home. My mechanic replaced the severely burnt spark plugs and told us our very nice car would be worthless soon if Hyundai did not fix this oil consumption problem. He called our Hyundai dealer on our behalf.
I first noticed that my vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of motor oil, with the oil change light coming on every 1,500–2,000 miles. I routinely had to add oil between changes to keep it running. On May 30th, while driving on surface roads, I heard clanking noises from the engine. When accelerating, the vehicle clanked heavily, and then went into “limp mode,” limiting acceleration to about 10 MPH before struggling up to 30 MPH. I added oil, but a local shop diagnosed it with code P1326 (knock sensor) and advised that Hyundai engines are prone to failure around 100,000 miles and that I should take it to the dealer for warranty evaluation. I contacted Graham Hyundai, who told me they could not see the vehicle until July 1st and that I would be responsible for towing. I dropped the vehicle off on July 1st, but it was not inspected until July 8th or 9th. I was later told Hyundai was being consulted. Around July 15th–16th, the dealership informed me that I would need $1,500 in repairs. They stated the engine had passed the Hyundai Bearing Clearance Test (a $350 charge) and that Hyundai required me to pay for an ECU “KSD logic” upgrade ($175). They also stated the engine valve cover was leaking, requiring new spark plugs, for a total of $532. Additional charges included an oil change and other shop fees and taxes. After repairs, I was instructed to drive 1,000 miles and then return for an oil consumption test. After approximately 1,000 miles and four weeks, the dipstick check showed the vehicle had consumed nearly all of its oil. I was then told I now need a combustion chamber cleaning, costing approximately $850 and requiring three days in the shop. Given the oil consumption issues, repeated engine warnings, limp mode incident, and the significant costs already incurred for testing and required upgrades, I am requesting that my engine be replaced under warranty and that all fees I have already paid be reimbursed. Rather than keep paying for work.
Component or system that failed or malfunctioned: The 2.4L Theta II engine in my 2018 Hyundai Sonata is consuming an excessive and unsafe amount of engine oil—approximately 1 quart every 750–1000 miles. The engine has not seized or failed yet, but the oil consumption is abnormal and dangerous. The engine is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: This oil consumption issue poses a significant safety risk. If the engine runs out of oil unexpectedly, it could lead to catastrophic engine failure and sudden loss of power while driving—potentially causing a serious accident. The lack of warning or engine light prior to dangerously low oil levels increases the risk. Reproduction/confirmation: The issue has been reproduced and documented by a certified Hyundai dealer through an oil consumption test. However, despite confirming the problem, Hyundai has refused to cover the repair. Inspection history: The vehicle has been inspected by a Hyundai dealership. No other independent agencies (e.g., insurance or police) have inspected it. Warning lamps or messages: No warning lamps appeared before the engine oil was found to be dangerously low. There were no check engine lights or oil pressure warnings prior to discovering the oil consumption issue. Other key information: Hyundai refuses to cover the repair due to the fact that I am not the original owner—even though the original Powertrain warranty would have covered the issue if I were. Hyundai arbitrarily reduces the powertrain warranty to 5 years/60,000 miles for secondary owners, despite the safety risks being identical regardless of ownership. Furthermore, this exact engine has been the subject of multiple lawsuits and class actions due to excessive oil consumption, connecting rod bearing failure, and engine seizure. Hyundai has acknowledged the defect in various settlements but continues to deny coverage for affected owners like me.
Engine failure. Definitely a safety issue, check engine light flashing, limited engine power. Wouldn’t accelerate. Dealer inspected, there is a nationwide recall and class action lawsuits and they won’t replace even though it’s under warranty. False information saying maintenance neglect on my part. That is FALSE. Known failure and oil consumption. Rod bearing failure.
My car is consuming oil. Hyundai knows this is happening with the theta II engines. I was told to bring it in and do an oil consumption test which shows my car is consuming 1 qt oil every 406 miles but was denied help due to it being high Mileage and not under warranty. My car has now started misfiring due to cylinder 1 & 2 consuming oil.
Urgent Complaint About Repeated Engine Issues on 2018 Hyundai Sonata (VIN: [XXX] ) Hello, I’m writing to file a formal complaint regarding a 2018 Hyundai Sonata, VIN [XXX] , currently financed and still owing $9,700, but the vehicle is no longer reliable or functional. For over a year, the car has had constant mechanical issues, primarily: •Spark plug failures within weeks of replacement •Repeated misfiring •Constant oil consumption — requiring oil refills every few days •No clear cause ever detected by diagnostic machines Despite replacing the top engine cover, spark plugs, filters, and performing other repairs, the car continues to break down and remains unsafe to drive. These issues began shortly after the 2-year warranty expired in 2023, and have escalated rapidly. This has caused severe financial hardship for my family, who still have to pay nearly $10,000 on a loan for a failing vehicle. I am requesting Hyundai to investigate whether this vehicle qualifies for: •An engine recall, hidden warranty, or class action settlement •A buyback or goodwill repair INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
car turned off at light all lights work and turns on engine won’t roll over the battery and alternator and starter are all good
Burning a lot of oil had car 11 months only drove a few month, now it’s a tapping sound dealer where i purchase will not help nor will Hyundai dealer 15,000$ out the window now I need to get the lifters fix I can’t take it. I feel like I’ve been had. Now I got to figure to fix the car out of pocket however o haven’t had the car 1 year yet 81,000 miles.
Check engine light keeps coming on got it looked at , certain parts replaced & it’s still on something to do with the air filter
Engine burns oil about every 200, need to top off oil. Dealership and Hyundai corporate office will not take responsibility.
Car keeps burning oil faster than normal which has resulted in car not starting multiple times even after a month old oil change.
Crack oil pan
My 2018 Hyundai Sonata caught fire unexpectedly while parked. The engine suddenly began smoking, then the vehicle ignited and was severely damaged. I am still financing the vehicle through Capital One. After researching, I discovered that my vehicle’s engine is part of a known Hyundai recall due to fire risk (Theta II engine defect). I had no prior warning or engine-related issues that would have predicted this. I strongly believe the fire was caused by a manufacturing defect, and I’m requesting that NHTSA investigate Hyundai’s handling of this issue and ensure victims like myself are compensated — even if not physically injured. I can provide photos, a fire report, and additional documentation if needed. Please let me know the next steps or if I qualify for any related recall recovery programs.
The engine shuts off, doesn’t start, check engine light flashing, losses power, jerks while driving it, i will get it up yo speed then will shut off or won’t move.
⸻ In early 2024, I brought my vehicle to a Hyundai dealership due to rapid oil loss. I reported having to refill the oil weekly and suspected a leak. They diagnosed a cracked oil pan, claimed to fix it, and returned the car. However, immediately after, the car continued burning oil at an alarming rate. I was forced to buy and add oil every single week, spending hundreds of dollars to maintain drivability. Shortly after the repair, I began experiencing erratic dashboard warnings. The check engine light would frequently come on and off. The oil lamp illuminated every few days. These symptoms were persistent, not isolated incidents. Despite reporting the issue again, I was told the oil burning was “normal” for Hyundai engines and nothing to worry about. That response put my safety and my child’s safety at risk, as I was unknowingly driving a vehicle with worsening engine damage. Eventually, the car stopped running entirely. It was no longer drivable or safe. I took it to a licensed independent mechanic who confirmed there were multiple ongoing oil leaks and extensive engine damage. The issues I originally reported were never properly fixed, and it’s now clear the dealership failed to address the root cause of the oil consumption problem. I also noticed unusual spikes in the odometer after their repair, despite working from home and barely driving. This added further concern that the vehicle’s internal systems may have been compromised or malfunctioning. I believe Hyundai’s failure to act on clear warning signs directly led to this total engine failure and a serious safety risk.
I purchased this vehicle from the seller the vehicle then immediately gave me engine issues. I contacted the Hyundai dealership which the vehicle got recent services with. They told me that the claim was denied even though the car has an extended warranty until 120,000 miles and the vehicle has less than that due to a regular oil changes they recommended me call Hyundai corporate to see if they can help out. I then contacted Hyundai corporate, and they essentially stated the same thing saying that the vehicle did not qualify for the extended warranty due to outside factors which were the irregular oil changes. I let them know that the vehicle did not get regular oil changes and I provided them with a Carfax report they then told me that in order for the card to be classified as getting regular oil changes and maintenance is every 5000 miles and this vehicle got most of his oil changes done 10,000 and 15,000 miles now I am stuck with a vehicle with a engine that is knocking even though it should still be under warranty
The car in recent months has twice lost power and been rendered in operable on the side of the road until it could be limped home. I had the car serviced last year for a recall of a fuel filter gasket and at that time I was informed that I also had an update done for a (k knock?) sensor prior done on the car before purchase. I inquired about what that was, and they told me at the time it was for an engine recall because that particular engine I have is known to have rod bearing failure and consume oil without any trace of where it goes and piston rattle. I told the gentleman after my fuel gasket was taken care of that I would like to look into that because I have the symptoms and would like to know. At that point in time, I was told that I may have to do an oil test to see if the car loses oil. I said well can we do that and he told me it's $300 out of pocket. I asked on average before anything ever done by Hyundai, how many times do people have to do this? He said 4 to 6 in his experience. I told him I did not have the money, but I will keep an eye on the car. Everything's been fine for six months a few months ago Randomly driving to work the car shut down on me. We got the car home and my fiancé did an oil change and new spark plugs and the car worked fine. June 9th 2025 on my way to work the issue happened again in the middle of traffic. I called my fiancé and we got the car home. He performed another oil change and spark plug replacement and took pictures this time because the spark plugs are gunked up. The car now runs again. He called Hyundai of America on my behalf to just ask them if they could set up the test to see if the car was failing and they told him that they were all independent Hyundai and he would have to pay the test fees. He told them in a formal email that he doesn't believe under the federal recall He is responsible for that and they answered back that he may be reimbursed. We are contacting you because we were advised to on the issue
Failure of engine oil pan. - Hairline crack in oil pan caused enough oil to leak out threatening engine failure. Problem caught in time to avert failure. - Oil pan will be available if requested. - Personal safety not at risk but could have been if failure occurred while driving. - Problem was discovered and confirmed at by independent service center. - No inspection has been done by others. - YouTube and internet search shows same problem. - No warning warning signs or messages. - Problem not covered by manufactures warranty for second owner.
Multiple critical mechanical and safety issues have occurred with my 2018 Hyundai Sonata Sport. The vehicle has experienced persistent engine misfire, a severe oil leak, emissions system failure, and extensive paint deterioration. A certified technician confirmed an active oil pan leak with no dashboard warning lights, posing a fire and stalling hazard. To prevent further damage, I replaced the entire oil pan and spark plugs at a personal cost of approximately $800 at Firestone Complete Auto Care. The check engine light revealed diagnostic code P0420 – Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). An O’Reilly emissions scan confirmed the catalytic converter failure, and emissions status was marked “RED.” The vehicle will not pass an OBD-based emissions test. At 149,219 miles, Hyundai refused warranty coverage due to mileage. A certified Hyundai dealership quoted $3,722 to replace both the catalytic converter and valve cover gasket, which remains unaffordable and unrepaired. In addition, the factory-applied white paint began peeling severely from the hood and roof. Although Hyundai issued a warranty extension for this known defect, the dealership refused to repaint the hood, citing a minor dent — even though the peeling is clearly unrelated. The exposed metal has started to rust, risking structural deterioration. All concerns have been evaluated by certified Hyundai service and independent professionals. These combined mechanical, emissions, and exterior failures raise serious safety and durability concerns. I am filing this report to document manufacturer-related defects that may affect other owners of this model and year.
Burns oil fast. 900 miles from an oil change the car oil stick was empty. There are no signs of oil leaking. Every 1000 miles you have to place oil back into it. I’m not the only one complains of this issue. I was reading on Reddit and it’s thousands of people having the same issue.
CAR STALLS; ENGINE IMPAIRED; OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM
I have had to have the starter replaced twice, I have had to change the spark plugs 5 times. I have to put oil in it about every 3 weeks. White smoke comes out of the muffler. The mechanic said I need to have an oil consumption test, which Hyundai will not covet.
I have a 2018 sonata. It has thrown a p1326 code. There is a TSB for that code where the dealership will Check to see if the engine will Be replaced. My car passed that test meaning no engine replacement. My car has 107,000 miles on it and has had regular maintenance. In between oil changes I’m having to add oil. I’m spent hundreds on engine oil since taking owenship of the car. There is obviously an issue with the engine since there is a TSB. Yes my car passed”passed the test this time” (I’m having to pay $600 to replace the knock sensor). I feel like I’m driving a ticking time bomb and money pit. I feel as though Hyundai should handle this known issue. I need help.
I have to put a quart of oil in every week. It burns oil.
This engine consumes oil rapidly to the point i have to add quarts of it constantly . This results in the spark plugs deteriorating at a rapid rate and the coil packs as well. The car only has 75,000 miles but the problems began to start around 69,000 miles because of these issues and the engine and burning oil because of the rings and pressure it begins to shake rapidly and sputter and stall out.
The engine stalls when driving, loses power, hard time to start. It uses an extensive amount of oil. Losing power/stalling can result in accident or fire in my engine. Yes check engine light came on said it was coils/plugs changed them 2xs already. Took it to a mechanic was told there’s a recall on engine it’s a valve that is not getting air through that can potentially case a Fire in my engine.
My 2018 Hyundai Sonata (approx. 60,000 miles) began consuming excessive oil, and the engine started smoking while driving. My wife barely made it to the dealership — the car was unsafe, struggled to stay running, and visibly smoked from under the hood. Hyundai acknowledged the oil issue but refused to cover engine replacement. Instead, they approved a one-time combustion chamber cleaning and requested we drive the car 1,000 miles to "see if it gets better." This is a major safety concern. The vehicle is part of a group of Hyundai models known to have defective Theta II engines that have led to engine failure, fire risk, and recalls. This issue is widespread, and Hyundai is not taking proper responsibility for defective engines in cars like mine.
The engine is burning through oil at a rapid rate. I probably get 2,000 - 2,500 miles before it needs a complete refill and the problem is getting worse. I was not due for an oil change recently around 2,500 miles and my engine started shaking, took it to the shop and the oil was gone without the oil light going off. This resulted in me needing to replace spark plugs and all engine coils. The repair shop recommended I sell my car because of the amount of Hyundai's he sees with this issue.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the oil pressure was prematurely lower. The contact stated that while performing the oil change as an independent mechanic, the contact noticed that there was a significant amount of oil in the oil catcher, and the oil pan was fractured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the oil pan replacement was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: DP22003 (Engine). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 64,400.
Mileage: 64,400
The engine burns oil, I have to get spark plugs every two months, and put oil in it almost every week. The check engine light is now flashing and is throwing more sensors. The paint on this car is also all peeling off.
2018 Hyundai Sonata Registered owner [XXX] Vin [XXX] Which qualifies for a replacement engine under the "recall" and "class action" due to engine oil consumption damage. On [XXX] I was driving home from California, and my 2018 Hyundai Sonata made a loud noise and stalled on me while driving on the freeway. On Jan 2, 2025 I towed my 2018 Hyundai Sonata to ABC Hyundai for repairs. I was told the engine failed or locked up. I have a drivetran warranty up to 150k. My vehicle currently has 115k. However, Hyundai denied the engine repair stating that I neglected the maintenance on the vehicle. They were requesting oil change receipts from 2018 when I bought the car. I've submitted all oil change documents that I could find. Most auto shops have purged their system, updated their software and also got entirely new systems, therefore those receipts were not found. Carfax also has a record of oil changes. I did not always take my vehicle to the dealer for oil changes since our family has a certified mechanic that can vouch for all the other oil changes done on the vehicle. Including tune-ups. The dealer and I have provided several oil change receipts approx. 18+ carfax, Hyundai, family mechanic and misc. receipts. That's should be more than enough evidence for Hyundai to honor their warranty. Please help. NOW HMA says t claim for oil consumption and repairs were denied due to the vehicle being outside of warranty based on time and mileage. Once a claim is denied that is the final decision from HMA. This is untrue my vehicle is NOT out of warranty. Due to the oil consumption class action, and faulty engine put in ny car, the drivetran warranty was extended to 150K, and my vehicle is only has 115K and 7 years old. Hyundai put a bad engine in my vehicle to begin with. A few months ago I got a oil change at Firestone, 4 weeks later there wasn't a drop of oil in my car, that is a problem. Everytime I got a oil change, I had to extra oil after 3-4 week INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5
I was going 80 mph on the interstate and suddenly my car went into limp mode and shooked really hard and dropped to 60 mph. I had to swerve to go onto the side of the road. The car behind me almost rammed into me. I contacted hampton hyundai for days to schedule an appt. I finally was able to drop off my vehicle to them but now they are telling me they have to do an oil consumption test but my car is in limp mode and it shakes when I drive it. The car is dangerous and they are trying to charge me $500 for a fuel pump replacement ( which I have a warranty of but they notified me that does not count but it matches exactly the possible reason). As you can see in the documents, they did not note that my fuel pump was broken. They just asked if I wanted to pay it so they can get started. I get normal oil changes done. They haven't even done a rod bearing test but just looked at the knock sensor and was telling me that they wanted to charge me to get that changed.
Car does not when temperature drops below 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) even when garaged so you cannot drive car and u have to be towed several times at night. Local dealer stated unaware of issues but there is forum of Hyundai owners who have this problem with 2018 sonata. A local mechanic studied issue and did replacement on the relay switch and starter and now car starts in cold weather. It took me four years is stress and I put in complaint to Hyundai and they did nothing to compensate me for parts. This is a very big issue to be somewhere called late at night and not have reliable transportation.
Possible engine recall engine makes nose continuously stay low on oil.Bulletin came out about possible engine recall
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, engine oil was leaking onto the ground while the vehicle was parked. The contact stated that the dealer had previously replaced the spark plugs, and cylinders #3 and #4 twice, and an independent mechanic had replaced the front driver's side CV axle. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, who determined that the engine had internal defects. The contact was informed that the engine and front CV axles needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but refused to replace the engine. The failure mileage was approximately 86,800.

2018 Hyundai Sonata with only 128k miles already needs a new engine due to oil consumption. I have done the regular maintenance on the car and have only put roughly 25k miles on the car since owning it
- Component or system that failed: engine (cylinder #4 misfire) - Safety was put at risk twice: once when knock sensor went off on interstate (October) and engine went into limp mode (aka protection mode). Required a tow from the, which was tricky with a vehicle full of passengers. Safety was put at risk gain when vehicle began to stutter/sputter on interstate (December). Drove 4-cylinder vehicle essentially on three cylinders an hour to dealership - Problem has been confirmed by dealer (Southern States Hyundai, Raleigh, NC) - vehicle has been inspected by warranty inspector, who requests approval before disassembling engine to diagnose issue. However, based upon maintenance records and manufacturer's history of engine issues (more on this below), owner should not be liable for investigating a well known issue. At the time of this writing, the issue has been escalated beyond the dealership and warranty to Hyundai Motor America, and currently awaiting the results of their findings. - symptoms of the problem include constant oil leak from vehicle purchase in May 2024 up to engine failure in December 2024. Various temporary remedies (oil changes and repairs, including oil drain plug gasket replacement, crush washer replacement, and replacement of cracked oil pan) did not fix the issue. Additionally, in the October incident, Hyundai dealership (Sport Durst Hyundai, Durham, NC) simply updated the knock sensor detection (KDS) software, despite the vehicle previously receiving the update in 2019 (this can be verified). Finally, owner, noted "engine knocking" (aka 'tapping') in vehicle prior to engine failure. - Hyundai (the manufacturer) settled a class action lawsuit in 2021. Vehicle is one of the vehicles listed under Class Vehicles, but dealer, nor warranty company, nor Hyundai seem to want to resolve issue, which both alienates owner and presents a safety hazard, as the vehicle is unsafe to drive. All claims here will be supposed via documentation and images.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and approved the engine replacement. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the check engine warning light continued to flicker on the instrument panel. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the most recent failure The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.

My cars engine is failing. My safety as well as other around me are at risk because the more oil my engine consumes, the more it is likely to quite literally blow up. My car just hit 60,000 and my dealership has informed me that I need an engine replacement. The manufacturer will not take accountability for their fault engines, even though my dealership told me they see this same engine problem come in every single day. Since before my car hit 60,000 in October 2023, my oil light came on which is odd because I’ve always maintained my car well. Since then, my car has been burning 4-5 quarts of oil in 1000 miles. My engine has an oil consumption issue, as do many other Hyundai models but Hyundai refuses to acknowledge this issue. Go on Tik tok, look at how many people are having the same problem. Call a Hyundai service center, any one of your choice, they will tell you that they see oil consumption motor issues every day. Hyundai corporate told me it is not their problem, and good luck. This is unethical and immoral and there needs to be a recall. There is no reason why I need an engine replacement at 60,000 miles.
43000 miles on car. original owner. new battery. car does not cold start in the morning. all electronics light up, but engine doesn't start. This is a known issue from all the posts i found online, yet Hyundai has not issued a recall. I paid 300 for a battery 2 weeks ago and the issue didn't resolve. Now i am being told by dealer it is the starter and it's not covered because my 5 yr warranty is expired (my car is 6 years old). This is a known safety issue across the 2018 Sonata line. This should be a recall or bulletin, instead I have to come up with hundreds of dollars more to replace a starter on a car with ONLY 43,000 miles.
Approximately 6-8 weeks ago, I was driving home and my oil light began turning on and off. This had never happened before. It was nighttime and I was only a few miles from home so I continued driving. The next morning, I checked the oil to find that the reservoir was bone dry. There had been no warning light whatsoever prior to this incident. At this point, the vehicle had about 65,000 miles on it. I had to put 2 quarts of oil in before it would even register on the dipstick so I could get it to my mechanic. Upon arriving to his business, he explained that Hyundai is well aware of this ongoing issue of oil consumption but they are doing nothing about it. I had not driven excessive miles without an oil change and faithfully get it changed between 3,000-5,000 miles, which is perfectly acceptable for this vehicle. I have all receipts from these changes. I have begun to maintain a record indicating the oil that I have added over the last 1,700 miles. It has been 2.5 quarts. The morning I brought the car to my mechanic I reached out to the Hyundai dealership and was told I would need to pay for a diagnostic, then two oil consumption tests. I declined and promptly reached out to Hyundai corporate. They told me the same nonsense and then offered to have their consumer division reach out to me. Ultimately, that person told me I would need to do the same thing, so they were entirely useless in facilitating any reasonable resolution. I subsequently found out about the oil consumption problem that thousands of people have reported in various models and years. I joined a few Hyundai oil consumption groups on Facebook and now realize how many people have been impacted by this issue. I still owe $5,600 on the car but feel that the issue will not be handled by Hyundai and don't wish to have ongoing concerns with driving the car and constantly topping it off with oil. As a result, I feel that I am forced to pay off this car and buy something else.
Car is having a misfire in cylinder 4 . Carbon is being built up in my spark plugs and causing gas build up in the spark plugs . Engine burning oil fast.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and was unable to accelerate above 60 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the knock sensor. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that later while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost all motive power. The contact was able to coast to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the connecting rod bearings. The contact was informed that metal was observed within the engine and that the engine would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 67,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer performed a compression check. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was advised to drive the vehicle until it blew up. In addition, the contact stated that all four seat belts had failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the front driver's side and passenger's side seat belts failed to retract as intended. The contact stated that the seat belts failed to secure the passengers in place. Additionally, the contact stated that the rear seat belts completely failed to retract as needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by the independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for a combustion check and an oil consumption test to be performed out-of-pocket expense. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

My car is part of a campaign due to rod-bearing failure where the engine experiences problems such as complete failure, vibrating, hesitating, engine light on, and oil light on. I've been communicating with Hyundai who is not helping me with this issue. I was advised by them to continue driving the car "until the engine seizes", or I hear "a loud knocking noise". Upon inspection, three local Hyundai employees "agreed 100%" I need a new engine. However, per these employees Hyundai Corporate will not approve the replacement even though the vehicle is constantly experiencing the above symptoms above, simply because there is not a "loud knocking noise" coming from the engine. Even though ALL the other issues are present. This is very unsafe. I have a minor child I take to school daily, for an advisor to advise to drive the vehicle until "the engine seizes" is extremely dangerous, especially when they are aware my VIN is associated with engine replacement. My car exhibits symptoms of a rod-bearing failure and this multi-billion dollar company is taking advantage of hard-working urban mothers, by turning a blind eye and trying to require me to pay thousands of dollars up front for a problem THEY created by selling a vehicle with faulty engine. Again, the technicians indicated i in fact do need the engine replaced, but that Hyundai Corporate will require me to pay for a diagnostic test, rod-bearing test, and engine compression test because Corporate does not take their word for it. The fact a auto manufacturer is advising people to drive in such an unsafe manner is disheartening. If my child and I get injured in an accident by following their advice, our blood will be on their hands!
The electrical and engines in these cars are horrible . The steering wheel keeps locking up while driving cause everything to flick inside the car . This is a major safety issue for me when I am driving and I am unable to control the steering wheel. Dealership claimed they don’t see the issue with the car which I am stating . The vehicle was only inspected by a mechanic and since Hyundai said they couldn’t find anything a 3rd party confirmed that this was a ongoing issue and dealership could’ve caught it but it’s cheaper the sell the car . No everything happens at once especially if I’m turning or driving under 40 mph. First appeared 15 days after I bought the vehicle I alerted the dealership immediately
The vehicle is burning oil at a high rate in a short period of time, a known issue that is affecting thousands of other people, and Hyundai refuses to issue a recall to fix this issue. If I forget to add oil every 500-1000 miles, I risk the engine locking up while driving. Their cars are dangerous to drive and are unsafe to be on the road with other drivers. They put profit over the safety of their customers.
While driving on the freeway the car would not accelerate over 45 mph and then began to lose acceleration all together. The oil and engine lights came on and we were able to pull to the shoulder. Turned the engine off and then was unable to restart. Losing power on the freeway would be considered a safety risk. The car was towed to the mechanic who checked the oil and found it was three quarts low, however, two months prior the oil had been changed along with the oilpan being replaced as it was cracked. It was then towed to the dealership and after three months of diagnostics and inspections I was told the engine needed to be replaced. The Hyundai dealership is unwilling to share any communications between them and Hyundai USA. In 2019 the ECM was updated per recall 953. The car is available for inspection at your convenience. I think it's important to note that this is a six-year-old vehicle with under 55,000 miles.
As detailed in the attached letter to Hyundai, the car has had multiple engine issues that the company refuses to resolve even though they are well aware of the on-going engine problems in Sonatas. The problem started in August 2023 and is on-going.
Car has an engine defect and consumes too much oil. Hyundai Sonata is denying the repair or engine replacement
Vehicle is loosing a quart of oil every two weeks. When taken in for service no problems found. Dealership says their is a known engine problem but since I am the second owner no warrenty applies. Their suggestion is to constantly pit oil in the vehicle. This problem has effected many hyundai owners and should be on the company to fix the problem.
Engine began making knocking sound then car while in the highway was not able to accelerate. This slowdown put driver at risk for highway accident. Took car to dealership. They said the engine needed replaced then the next day said no Hyundai said it needed a sensor. This was a bandaid fix as it continued to go through oil faster than it could be changed this led to engine shake and knocking several months after the band aid fix. The car was not able to accelerate again. Again took it to Hyundai dealership said it need an oil test required us to do and pay for an oil change when we had just done one. Drive the 1000 miles brought it back failed the oil test said they need to do some sort of engine clean. Hyundai refused as the car doesn’t have oil change records for the first three years. No record of oil change was recorded even though they were completed. It being five and six years ago we don’t have receipts but believe these were part of the lease and completed at the dealership at no cost. Now Hyundai not even doing the rest of the oil test but say engine needs replaced however they will not cover the repair. We have all records after the car was purchased off the lease other car we own has full oil change records but since we are not able to locate and no one recorded they have denied the repair of a known issue with their engine. This engine issue needs a full investigation as they are trying to get away with not fixing THEIR known problem. This is a driving hazard for the cars still on the road as the engine will suddenly lose the ability to accelerate and could cause a major accident.
Had issues with engine consuming oil. Took to dealer who completed an engine oil consumption test to find the engine oil was 3 quarts low. All services had been completed through the dealer for the life of the vehicle. Engine replacement was approved. Vehicle was still under warranty. Vehicle was at 88227 miles when taken to dealer for repairs for oil consumption.
I was the owner of a 2018 Sonata until I was t-boned and the car was totaled. I started to make a left turn into a school parking lot when the engine kind of stalled or more like stuttered and did not go forward as usual. The oncoming car then struck me before I was completely in the driveway. My vehicle was totaled as was the other one. Fortunately no one was on the passenger's side where the other car hit me. However the seat belt did not engage which resulted in me slamming very hard into the steering column. This resulted in bruised on my right side which cleared up in several weeks, but, unfortunately, I received a heart contusion on my left side which is still causing shortness of breath. Hyundai will not acknowledge a problem with the engine or the seat belt.
Hello, I am the original owner for my 2018 Hyundai Sonata. I have now had numerous issues with this vehicle that has now left me stalled on the highway twice resulting in a near accident and the vehicle being towed twice to a dealership. I am now having issues with oil consumption with me needing to put in at least 1q per week to ensure the reading on the dipstick is above “L”. I have my vehicle serviced at the Hyundai dealership and they first brought to my attention at 90k miles that when I would go in for my scheduled oil changes the engine was nearly dry. I took my vehicle to a Midas to have it inspected for an oil leak with their mechanics twice saying there was not an oil leak. It was the mechanic here at Midas that informed me of the oil consumption issues Theta II Hyundai engines have been experiencing and to take it into the dealership to see what can be done. This has been an issue my dealership has known about, but they are refusing to assist stating the vehicle is now out of warranty at 104k miles. I have the receipts proving the vehicle has been maintained according to the manufacturers recommendation. My vehicle now will fill with the smell of burning oil when I’m driving, I’ve had the spark plugs replaced once and the new spark plugs are already coated in oil and my vehicle lurches when I’m accelerating to get onto the highway. I feel very unsafe driving this vehicle and fear it’s a matter of time before it leaves me stranded on the highway again.
The motor blew in my 2018 Hyundai sonata due to a manufacturing defect. There was a recall on it a couple of years ago. They acknowledged it was a defect which is why they put an extended warranty on the engine. Because I could not come up with maintenance records dating back until 2018 (I only had them dating back to 2020), they denied my motor and will not fix it. I bought the car brand new in 2018 and have had nothing but issues ever since. I have had to change the oil in this vehicle every 2 weeks, because it would be nothing in the oil tank at all. When the recall come out, they said they could not fix the vehicle until the motor was blown. Now that the motor has blew, they won't fix it because I don't have repair records dating back 6 years ago.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle eventually started. The failure had been persistent since December 2022. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact was requested to pay a diagnostic fee. The contact declined to pay the diagnostic fee because the vehicle was under warranty at the time. The contact purchased a new battery, and the battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. In addition, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.
I had just taken my 2018 Hyundai Sonata through the brushless car wash at Marion Ford-Hyundai in Marion, Illinois. As I exited the car wash, I noticed that the engine light had come on. When I took the car out on the highway, it accelerated very slowly and would only reach a speed of about 50 miles per hour. I called the service department at the dealership about what had happened and they told me the knock sensor had shorted out and for safety to the engine, would only allow me to go about 50 miles per hour, and to drive it as little as possible until it was repaired. They said that they had several other Sonatas in the shop with the exact same problem. The car was, and still is, under warranty, so it was repaired for free. It took about a month for them to get to my car, due in part to the other Sonatas waiting for the same problem to be repaired. The second time it happened I was driving home and went through some water on the highway at about 55 miles per hour, and the engine light came on and the car instantly decelerated to about 45 miles per hour. Same problem. The dealer again repaired the car for free. My two biggest concerns are how much it's going to cost me to have the repair done after the car's warranty expires, and, more importantly, what if the problem occurs in fast city traffic, such as in Covington, KY, where you have to drive 80 mph to keep from being a traffic hazard, or some other similar situation, such as interstate highway travel. Rapid deceleration in fast traffic can be deadly, and I don't like the thought of being killed or stranded in the middle of nowhere due to a design flaw by Hyundai. Can't Hyundai be made to fix the problem at no cost to the vehicle owners, to make the cars safer? I hardly drive the car in the rain any more. By the way, I don't have the exact dates these incidents occurred, only that they were, the best I can remember, in 2022 and 2023.
The vehicle is disposing oil really fast every 3 weeks I put 2 quarts in. A whole lot of dark smoke comes out when the car is 1st cranked up. Oil light flases constantly off and on in like a second. You would miss it if you blink twice. At least it should stay on to warn you of that their is no oil in the vehicle. Check the oil stick, bone dry. No leaks, no cracks, I took it to the shop and the repairs is really a 1 new motor
The engine of my 2018 Hyundai Sonata has been losing oil at a significant rate. By the time I take my car in for a regular oil change the oil is either completely out or nearly out. I contacted Hyundai regarding an oil consumption test which is what was recommended to me by Hyundai corporate when I called to report the problem. Hyundai has completed the oil consumption test and although they stated that it is consuming oil at a higher than normal rate, it still meets their “standard” and the recommendation that they have was to fill up my oil every time I put gas in my car which is an unreasonable expectation . The safety risk is significant. Although Hyundai recognizes this is an issue, they have said that there is nothing they can do. For a vehicle that has only 79,000 miles on it, there is no indication of where the oil is leaking to. During my last oil change, valvoline stated that this is a known issue and that the oil leaks into the engine of the vehicle. Hyundai inspected the vehicle and again stated that although it is burning oil off at a higher than normal rate, their standards state that it is not burning off enough to warrant an engine repair. The oil warning light did appear just before my last oil change which was approximately January 2024. When the light came on, I immediately scheduled an oil change and that is when I was first made aware that this was a known issue with certain Hyundai models
Severe oil leak into the oil pan has required frequent maintenance to keep oil in the car.
I own a 2018 Hyundai Sonata 2.0 turbo I paid cash for it in [XXX] with 2011 miles on it for 24,000 cash didn’t start having problems until 2022 then the I kept hearing a knocking on the left front wheel. I had it look at several places because the Hyundai of Louisville dealership kept telling me my title was branded I didn’t know what that meant till I took my title to the tag office and had the sheriffs department check the title out and it was an still is 100 % clean then my engine kept getting worse an in may of 2023 the engine stopped working I had the car towed to the local dealership and they couldn’t even look at it till Aug of 2023 the they told me I shot out a code 99 and they refused to update my software for the knock sensor system and wouldn’t honor the regular 60,000 miles warranty my car only had 48,000 miles on it . They didn’t bother telling me about the faulty GDI 2.0 turbo engine in August of 2023 I had to research it and find out on the internet that it’s a excessive oil consumption problem with this faulty engine. I had my car stolen for 6 days in April of 2023 and everything was taken out of my glove box an trunk . My oil change receipts were kept in an envelope in the glove box and were stolen with all my car registration an insurance papers . So the dealership refused my free engine replacement because I don’t have all my oil change receipts and blamed me for the oil being out of the engine which is due to the faulty GDI 2.0 turbo engine the dealership has now had my car 300 days I’ve been walking to and from my work I can’t afford a new engine all I want is me free engine replacement I have all the articles printed of all the engine problem with the cars catching on fire or just stop running period . I need some representation on having the Hyundai of Louisville Kentucky on Dixie highway to get me my free engine replacement they want 14,000$ for a new engine. I’m extremely mad and frustrated with this entire situation I have retained a lawyer. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM O

I have an oil leak. After getting an oil change I have to add 1-2 quarts of oil before my next oil change. I do have my oil change as recommended. This has happened so far on the last 3 oil changes I’ve done.
Car continues to burn oil within a week of getting oil changes, the oil will be black and it will be low sometimes there will be no oil and there is not an oil leak. Right now we had to pay for a combustion test and have to drive 1,000 miles then check the oil at Hyundai again and already our oil is starting to burn and is low. Hyundai said if the combustion test comes back still burnt or low Hyundai would give me a new engine and yea it’s low and already a tint dark not as dark as it used to get but still it’s low with no leak and we did not get the promised new engine after paying almost 600$ for the test… Also electrical wise the computer randomly sounds like static when Siri talks also the music does not play and randomly the maps will close out we have tried new cords we have tried everything and it still happens.
On [XXX] I was driving on [XXX] [XXX] from Rockville, Maryland when my vehicle (2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited) started to lose power and control and all dash lights started to show. I was able to move the vehicle to the highway shoulder before all power and control failed. Had I been moving at a higher speed or in heavier traffic, or been slower to react this could have led to a catastrophic incident. When the roadside assistance showed up they found that my alternator had completely detached from my vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the Sheehy Hyundai dealership in Waldorf, MD and examined on [XXX]. The maintenance staff informed me that there were 3 other similar cases they're working on, and that there is a flaw in the design of the alternator bracket using aluminum materials that failed, and that they've reported this systemic issue to the manufacturer but have yet to receive any indications that this would be considered for a recall despite the catastrophic impact this could have. The car was sitting in the parking lot and randomly black smoke started coming from it and then it turned into fire within in minutes. No one was in the vehicle and 911 was contacted.

Car would not start. Odor of burning wires coming from the engine compartment with a little smoke. Had car towed to the Dealer who replaced the starter. Ok for two weeks then same thing. No Start and an odor of burning wires coming from the engine compartment. Had it towed to the Dealer again where it sits today.
My car continues to consume oil and it’s always low. There is no leak. I have been told that the engine is constantly consuming the oil. I have taken it to the dealership and they submitted a form but nothing came about it. This is a safety concern for how fast the oil is being consumed
I have had a new engine put in my Sonata back at the beginning of 2023. For the past two days my car will jerk really hard, and then loose power not accelerating over 25 rpms and my check engine lights comes on when it jerks really hard.
We were heading to Lakewood NJ from Bucks County (North of Philly) . Car trouble w/ hybrid system on Rt 1, just past I-95. Got off @ Fairless Hills & took back roads. We could only go 20-30 mph. IDK how many times I pulled over. Several lights on, including "Check hybrid system. Turn Engine off", engine light, low tire pressure, battery & 3 other unidentifiable lights. I turned around to try to make it home, as 2 years ago, I had a similar issue, which turned out to be the hybrid water pump failed. We finally stopped near a park & called AAA & towed to dealer. Prior to driving, we had no fluid on our driveway. My last synthetic oil change was April 19, 2023 @ 49,097mile. I now have about 57,000 miles. Today, dealer said no oil in the car & oil pan was all wet. They claim the oil filer was loose. Why would it take 8 months to loosen to lose oil? After adding oil & taking for test drive, they said the engine seized & would need to be replaced. Not under warranty. Add to complaint - the remaining dashboard lights where checked and non of them was for the oil pressure. If I lost enough oil for the engine to seize I would expect a low oil pressure light to come. The dealer informed me on Dec 26, 2023 that when doing the diagnostic, the oil pressure light came on for them. The photos attached to the case does not show the oil pressure light on.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle jerked and failed to accelerate as designed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to the residence and then contacted the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed but was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,920.

Oil pan crack. Leaking oil can get on engine or underbody components causing fire or failure of breaking systems causing an accident resulting in death. Problem was identified by dealer and in fact the dealer rep said this was common. It has not been inspected by police or insurance reps. There is no warning systems in place for a cracked pan.
I own a 2018 Hyundai Sonata SEL. I purchased the car in 2020 with ~17,000 miles on it. At ~50,000 miles the engine begin burning oil. It has progressively gotten worse. I can’t bring myself to have anyone drive my car because of this issue. It is all to likely that the result of the car burning so much oil in a short period of time. That it can pose a serious risk to anyone driving the car if the oil wasn’t checked. This is not a common problem with many cars, this is a problem with Hyundai vehicles. The negligence of not issuing a recall for this is horrible. I have taken my car to private mechanics and Hyundai service centers. The response I get is “oh yeah they’re know for burning oil and there’s not much to do about it.” That’s a ridiculous response to situation like this for the thousands of owners. How long will it take to issue a recall, until a life is taken? When the issue could have been fixed by issuing a recall. Complete negligence on Hyundai and the NHTSA.
Purchased this vehicle with about 64K miles. Vehicle, as per CarFax report, has been meticulously maintained. Upon delivery, we changed the oil and filter with full-synthetic Amsoil. We ensured oil levels were appropriate prior to returning to service. No more than 1,000 miles later, roughly incurred in about a month, we checked oil levels again. This time, it required about 1.25 quarts to return it to the appropriate level .We did research and apparently, there is a class-action lawsuit filed by owners of Hyundai vehicles with this specific engine, the Theta II 2.4L 4-cylinder engine. Here's an article making reference to apparently your organization already looking into these complaints. [XXX] Could you please advise if the NHTSA will take the necessary steps to request Hyundai to issue a recall? I have found multiple articles where Hyundai is rejecting to take any action on their own, in most cases, advising their customers that such level of oil consumption is 'normal'. That clearly contradicts their own owner's manual guidelines. I own a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500LT with 302K miles and the vehicle will go nearly 5K miles between oil changes while requiring no more than 1/2 quart of oil to keep it at the appropriate levels. I also own a 2019 Honda Accord 2.0T that normally requires oil changes every 10K miles and it seldom requires more than 1/8 of a quart to keep at the appropriate oil levels. There is definitely something definitely wrong with this engine type and requires governmental involvement to hold the manufacturer to provide adequate remediation. My 2018 Hyundai Sonata began running low on oil around May 2022 when the car had 86,400 miles on it. I informed the local dealership where I bought the car and had all maintenance completed. The dealership and myself contacted Hyundai Corp. Hyundai Corp approved oil consumption testing which resulted in an induction cleaning in Sept. 2022. This did not resolve the oil burning issue. The dealership service staff informed me that I was given a lifetime warranty on the engine and to keep driving it and putting oil in as needed until the engine failed and then to bring it to the dealership for replacement engine. There evidently was not a fix for the problem. Most recently I have been putting oil in the car every Sunday. I sent an email message to Hyundai Corp about a month ago to request to talk with a case manager regarding this excessive oil issue. In the meantime I have taken my car to the dealership for all suggested maintenance and informed them of the continued oil consumption. Before I received a response from Hyundai, my engine failed. I pulled out of my drive way and my car was stalling and would not accelerate properly then my engine light came on. I drove the car about a quarter mile down the road and turned around and came home in this very scary condition. This is a safety issue due to pulling out on a road with no power to accelerate. I had it towed to the dealership. I was give a case manager from Hyundai. My car has burnt valves and excessive carbon build up from excessive oil burning. Hyundai will not cover engine replacement costs, or buy back the vehicle. This vehicle is available for inspection. I'm not sure if I should leave it at dealership or have it towed home.
Engine is failing, stalls frequently. Dealership where I bought the car will not help, other dealership advised us to drive the car until the engine fails. I do not feel safe driving this car with my children.
I was driving and when I made a left turn I heard a sucking type of noise coming from the engine. I immediately made an appointment at my local Hyundai dealership, however they were booked for another month so I made it at my local mechanic shop. After inspection by the mechanic I was told and confirmed that the noise was a result of having barely ANY OIL LEFT IN MY ENGINE!!! Because the oil pan had a hairline crack in it and had leaked the oil out. My check engine light had never come on through this process. This is so dangerous because my engine could have eventually seized while being in traffic with potential harm to both myself, people in my car and other vehicle traffic!!! Also, WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH DAMAGE WAS DONE TO MY ENGINE AS A RESULT OF THIS!!! My engine can be ruined!!!
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH uphill, the vehicle shuddered. The check engine warning light and low oil pressure warning light were illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where an oil change was performed, and the spark plugs were replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: DP22003 (Engine). The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,347.

My car is misfiring, hesitating accelerating, severely shaking and vibrating which you can feel in the pedals and steering wheel, and the check engine light is on. This issue has been ongoing for over a week already. When the engine light first came on on 9/7, i pulled over on the side of the road and had a mobile mechanic check it out. The code was coming up as a bad ignition coil in cylinder 1. When he took out the coil and spark plugs, he saw scoring on the spark plug from oil as well as oil being consumed in the cylinder itself which has been causing my vehicle to misfire. The mobile mechanic stated on his invoice that I need a new engine. I took my car to Faulkner Hyundai on 9/11 and they said the best they can do is an oil consumption test even though they personally know I need an engine as well. I have not been able to drive the vehicle due to the ongoing issues, I am afraid for my life and safety that god forbid the car stalls out on the highway while I am traveling to or from work I could get into a major accident. They are putting my life in jeopardy.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved DTC Code: P1326 and related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 20-01-024H-1 (Theta GDI Engine DTC P1326 - Engine Inspection / Replacement); however, the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

Oil leaking, replaced gaskets Oil continues to burn at a fast rate. Putting up to 6qt oil extra every month. Oil changes have been regular. Dealership only cleaned engine and told me that was all they could do.
While I was driving the car shut off by itself.
Car consumes TOO much oil. Even after I get an oil change I have to add more oil weeks later and the oil is always black. Several times the sensor has gone out on me on the hwy and I’m not able to accelerate or go over 35 miles which is extremely dangerous .
Mileage: 127,961
This vehicle consumes one quart of oil every 1000 miles. I have documentation to prove it. Hyundai has done their own asessments and claimed that it consumes less. There was a class action lawsuit filed in California for this issue.
My engine was burning oil, I was/ am up to date with my oil changes. The oil suddenly kept being dirty. My car broke down twice. One time oil was shooting out of the top of my engine and it was smoking. Hyundai claimed it was neglect and only accepted my paper copy of oil changes but not the ones on my debit card statement.
I first reported issues with my vehicle to a local Hyundai dealer January 16, 2023. I was advised I couldn’t get an appointment until March 8, 2023. Since March 8, 2023 I have taken my car to the dealer my numerous times for a series of testing over the course of 3 months. I was advised my car was burning too much oil of oil per 1000 miles. I was also advised that the transvalve and engine needed to be inspected by an adjuster to determine a faulty engine in order to get approval from the manufacturer. My car was at the dealer for almost a week. On June 15, 2023 the Hyundai dealership advised the engine was faulty. I was also advised warranty approved for a new engine due to faulty engine/oil consumption. I was advised to pick up my vehicle from the dealership. On June 16, 2023 I picked up my vehicle. I was told by the dealership to keep driving my vehicle until the new engine came in due. I was denied a loaner/rental at the time even though they knew the car had a faulty engine. Immediately after leaving the dealership dealership my car started smoking. I pulled over immediately got out. The car caught on fire and burst into flames. This was a very dangerous safety risk. It caused panic attacks, anxiety, headaches, and lots of sleepless nights. If I hadn’t gotten out sooner I could’ve been severely injured or dead. The car is with the insurance company. A field investigation has been done by the insurance. They determined faulty engine and total loss if the vehicle. It is still available for inspection if needed. There were no warning lamps or messages before the car started smoking or caught fire.
My 2018 sonata has been stalling out while I’m driving more so when I accelerate.I have a baby that I’m scared to drive with in the car because it does it randomly. It has been happening more & more everyday. I got new parts/starter etc. No codes on dash. Have an appointment next week with Hyundai to take a look.
Oil consumption problem 2018 Hyundai Sonata
After only 38,000 miles, the engine seized up and failed to start. Has been a the dealership where I purchased it for 2 months and has yet to be looked at
When driving the car on the highway - "check engine - hybrid system" warning lights come on and indicate hybrid system issue and to shut car off immediately. Extreme safety issue as the car goes from highway speeds to 35MPH almost instantly. This has happened seven times now and Hyundai keeps indicating that technicians are following engineering guidance in fixing the issue related to the knock sensor. The seventh occurrence happened on May 23rd of 2023. First one was in December 2021. As Hyundai is unable to correctly fix the issue I have repeatedly asked for them to replace the car since it is an extreme safety issue but they will not do so. Still waiting for diagnosis of the latest occurrence from May 23rd. Hyundai does not acknowledge that this issue is of safety concern and just indicates that the issue has been fixed each time it occurs.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled in traffic. The vehicle was misfiring, and the RPM was abnormally elevated. While driving 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled again. There were no warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact was adding approximately two quarts of engine oil every two weeks. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Twin City Hyundai (3024 Alcoa Hwy, Alcoa, TN 37701, (866) 229-3953) but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.

In January, At 65k miles I took my car in for an oil change. I informed them I was putting a quart of oil every month for the last 3 months just to keep the oil light off on my dash. Tech told me all Hyundais are burning oil and to just drive it until the engine blows and I’ll get a free engine replacement through Hyundai. The following month in February, I went to get my back brakes done. Mechanic told me I had no oil left in my car. They filled it up for me. In March, I took my car back to the dealership service center and demanded service. I was told I needed to do a combustion cleaning which would cost $700 and my extended warranty would not cover it because it’s considered general maintenance. I threw a fit and they agreed to do an oil consumption test. A few days ago I hit the 1k miles I was supposed to drive and took my car in for the first check. It was almost 2 quarts low and they said the next step in Hyundais flow chart is the combustion cleaning. They told me 1. It doesn’t actually clean anything and 2. Hyundai says this is the fix to the issue but it doesn’t actually fix anything. They said after, we would do another oil consumption test and then we could submit to Hyundai under “good faith” and ask for an engine replacement. I started researching and see this is a major issue with Hyundais and leave people with a blown engine and Hyundai refuses to cover anything. I traded it in today and got a new car, not a Hyundai!
Was driving on freeway on the way back from visiting family in different state when rpms dropped off and suddenly lost power. Car began shuddering and check engine light started blinking. Put hazards on and somehow managed to pull over to shoulder. No problems with car or anything to indicate anything was wrong before this. Called to have car towed to dealership where they said there was a software problem and it was falsely indicating low oil levels. ECM was reset and software updated for $233 which they said fixed the problem. Said that carbon deposits may have caused the software to misread and that may have been why there was no indication of problems before. Hope so because i have a long drive back.
During the drive, check engine lights on then suddenly, HEV warning lights with turn off the engine with critical alert sound. I was drove again after attempting to start several times then again & again... It freaked me out when I drove on the highway, and yet to fixed & afraid to go to the dealer becase of cost & uncertain reasons. This could be big accidents on the highway.

Knocking of the engine , engine light continues flashing , lack of acceleration finally feb of this year the turbo blew up an the car stop running all symptoms of knock sensor problems . I’m Taking it to Hyundai on Dixie on Monday in two days an I hope they don’t deny the federal recall an I will have to have a loaner car . They have told me the last 5 years my title was flawed last month they denied saying that an told me my warranty was voided with 41,000 on my car
The Engine Failed. It is currently sitting at the local Hyundai Dealership. As it pertains to my safety, the Engine failed while traveling on a Major Expressway in the morning on my way to work. Upon towing the vehicle to the dealership, it was effectively confirmed to me I am not the only person suffering from this problem. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and determined to be an engine failure. No warning, no other symptoms prior to this incident.
As soon as I start to press on my brakes the vehicle starts violently pulsating and locks up. Took the dealership they said my rotors and brakes were fine and we're unable to give any reason for this. Without brakes I cannot stop my vehicle and it seems like a faulty ABS but no light on dashboard. The engine consumes nearly 5.2 qts of oil in 1000 miles. Being this is not normal I have no idea I was running out of oil as soon as I was changing it which could have led to my entire engine stalling out and causing me to wreck. It's putting my life as well as other people's on the roads and danger
This car engine has failed on multiple occasions. About 12 months ago, I observed a great loss of coolant. The car would frequently overheat even when I added coolant. Eventually, I was able to have the engine replaced at the dealership where I purchased the car, but this was right at the end of the vehicle's warranty. Even with a new engine installed, I still lose coolant all the time. It does not appear to leak anywhere, but the reservoir is consistently empty.
Hairline crack in engine oil pan possibly resulting in engine failure
There is a rod barring warranty on my car for my engine. My engine has completely faulted. Hyundai has informed me that they are going to take at least 3 months to fix it and will not give me a vehicle for the time they have mine. I took my car to the shop to check it out, a week before it went out and Hyundai was fighting it, so I wasn’t able to get it there until it completely went out after trying to figure it out for a week prior
I was driving on freeway and all dashboard warning started to flicker on and off simultaneously then my steering wheel locked in place. I was unable to stop or turn wheel and had to maneuver car until it came to a stop. I had to get it towed home. I spoke with dealership and asked me to tow it to them so they can look at it and gave me a report that mention nothing about what I originally told them it did while I was driving but pointed out everything else that was wrong with it that added up to more than $4,500.00 in repairs. Dealership guy got upset that I asked him to email rather than phone calls and didn’t want to answer anything through email only phone calls he was refusing service and kept pushing us to approve all the other expenses without telling me anything about why the car did what it did. He then told me that it was my fault since car was just passed over 100,000 miles and I should’ve known that was going to happen. Luckily nobody got hurt during this. My wife was pregnant at the time and thank goodness nothing bad happened and dealership guy was so unprofessional and rude and just wanted our money rather than help by giving us any answers.
I own a 2018 Hyundai Sonata SE. The car now has 60,000 miles on it. I first reported to the Hyundai Dealership that my valves are "chattering" with acceleration up to 35 mph. I was advised my engine was low on oil. I completed a oil change and valves are still chattering. I was advised that the engine is dirty and I would have to pay for an engine cleaning at $350.00 After the cleaning the valves stopped chattering for about 1000 miles then the noise came back. I was then told to complete an oil consumption test. Part 1 of the test my car burned 2 quarts in 1000 miles. Part 2 with a cleaning my car burned .5 quarts after a cleaning, so it passed the oil consumption test. I was told by the dealership that after a couple of oil changes or around 6000 miles the car will burn oil again at the rate of over 1 quart per 1000 miles. The also told me that I would have to do the oil consumption test again. The dealership stated that the engine is faulty and and engine replacement is what needs to happen to correct the problem versus this band aid fix. I was also advised if I wanted to speed up the process don't check the oil between oil changes because it will burn 5 quarts of oil before the next oil change. This will cause the engine to lock up. THE ENGINE IS FAULTY IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.
My vehicle is unable to accelerate past 65mph. I had it towed to a local repair shop whom ran a diagnostic and they are advising there is a hyundai/kia recall on engine. To my knowledge, I was not advise by Hyundai of any recall when my spouse reached out to Hyundai directly. I was on the highway with family traveling back from Christmas vacation when the incident occurred. There was a crash ahead due to the rain so traffic had slowed down. Once I drove passed the accident and attempted to accelerate the engine light appeared I could no longer accelerate. Very scary when your on a 4 lane highway hours away from home. I was able to pull off to the nearest exit for safety as it rained.
Loss of power on highway or during normal driving possibly due to oil pan assembly according to odi 11481745. This has cause near-miss accidents on highway on ramps a number of times. Separate issue, when the outside temp is at our below 30°F the starter can fail to turn over resulting in a car that won't start even with jumper cables applied.
Purchased Certified Used 2018 Hyundai Sonata in March of 2021. Engine oil light came on at 36,863 miles in July of 2021, and I took car to repair shop. I was told that these cars (2018 Hyundai Sonata) excessively burn oil -- though under 60K miles was "early" -- and that it would need to be constantly monitored. Car went through four quarts of oil before next oil change at 42,437 miles. Took car to local Hyundai dealership and was told there was a "crack in my oil pan" (though there were no oil spots in my driveway or garage that would point to an oil leak from a pan). Pan was replaced. Engine oil light came on again (despite problem being "solved") TWO MONTHS LATER AT 44,129 miles. I put a minimum amount of oil into the engine and drove over to dealership to have issue resolved. They told me it was sparkplugs, which they replaced. Checked oil level at each gas fill up. Car went through FIVE quarts of oil before oil change at 47,432 miles!!!! Five quarts in 3,000 miles. Dealership now states I must get approval from Hyundai to do an oil consumption test.
The contact's son owned a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while her son was driving at 68 MPH with a passenger in the front passenger seat, he noticed a burning odor and he noticed smoke coming inside the cabin through the AC vents. There was no further information provided. The contact's son pulled into a gas station and saw fire underneath the hood. The contact's son and the passenger immediately exited the vehicle. The contact's son was able to extinguish the fire with the assistance of bystanders who used fire extinguishers. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was then repossessed by the auto financing bank. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the failure was caused by a missing oil cap. The failure mileage was unknown.
The incident occurred within my garage when I attempted to start my car and the starter went out producing a burnt smell and spark within motor. After letting the car cool down I put the car in neutral and had it towed to the nearest garage. I thought vehicle could have started a fire inside my garage and home. I have contacted the manufacture and initiated a case incident report awaiting a call back from Hyundai motor company. There were no waring lights or issues with the car the car before incident. The vehicle is under warranty but the dealership stated, they could assist since I took the car to a garage and had a mechanic work on vehicle. The disposition was the vehicle had a faulty started starter, but this incident has a huge safety flag.
2018 Hyundai Sonata SEL-Cylinder Misfire with engine oil consumption. It is a hazard to drive a vehicle that can cut off or engine lock up while driving. The same applied to 2014 -2015 Hyundai and Kia vehicles. Hyundai and Kia were required to replace the motors in those vehicles. Due to vehicles been unsafe to drive. The vehicle is currently at the dealership now. First was told that engine was going to be replace under warranty. Due to problem of lack of compression. But will not replace engine.
Engine takes a long time to start up, about 10-15 seconds of pushing the start button starts engine which is probably not good for the car. Also, the car jolts/ wants to stop while driving. Has been an ongoing issue since the week of 9/5/22. Loss of motor power issue sounds like what is going on with my 2018 Hyundai Sonata vehicle.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated the vehicle had failed to start. On other occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was not running correctly, bucking, lost motive power and stalled. Additionally, the door and trunk failed to lock securely. There were no warning lights illuminated. A signal was sent to the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the fuel pump failed and caused the starter to burn out and drain the battery. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number and referred the contact to the local dealer for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 23,944.

My 2018 Hyundai Sonata GDI Engine stop working while I was driving on the freeway without a warning prior to the issue. It never gave me a heads up in advance that the engine needed service. No check engine light to alert me that an issue needed attention. I learned about the engine problem when my engine stop working while I was on the freeway. I heard a loud noise coming from the engine and within seconds my RPM started going down and my car started loosing power while I was driving on the freeway. At the same time my check engine light came on and it was flashing. At that moment I realize something bad was happening with my motor. The check engine light was not on before that. It never alerted me before that, and when it came on flashing on and off it was already too late because my engine was dying and it died and didn't turn back on after I pulled over in the side of the freeway. I was so scared. The cars where going so fast and very close to my car with little room to pull over. The high velocity of the others cars where making my car cradle from the wind. It was so terrifying for me and my little dog i had with me. My seat belt stop working a few weeks before my engine died, and the thought of me getting hit by another car without a seat belt on. I've never been scared for my life like I was on that day. Hyundai dealer sold me a car with a bad engine. I was putting atleast 1 quart of oil every other week sometimes every week in the past year until just recently. I've only had it for 3 years since I bought it and I was putting 1 quart of oil every month in the beginning and with time the consumption of oil increased and increased more with time. Hyundai service my car for an oil gasket last year that should've been cover under warranty, but made me pay for it. I made it aware to them about the excessive oil consumption and told them it wasn't normal how much oil the car was consuming but they denied to service my car under warranty.
On May 03, 2022 at approximately 3:30pm I was traveling southbound on Arizona State Route 101 in Tempe, Arizona. I was going about 75 mph, and without no warning my car shut off. I had to pull off to the shoulder of the highway to avoid being struck by other vehicles, and also incase I lost control. My Hyundai picked up nails on 3 of the 4 tires in the process. I barely avoided a fatal accident due to the defect, which I had no idea about.
For the fourth time the HEV light (and others) has come on and the dash has lit up while I was driving, with the last three times leaving us stranded in dangerous road situations with little or no power. The light first came on in July 2020 at 40,089 miles. A dealership reset the codes and I had no problems until June 7, 2022 when the lights lit up on the dash again and the car died and I had to have it towed to a local dealership. They could find nothing wrong with it and checked all the wiring and said none of the codes were coming up and that the car ran fine for them when test driving a day or two after I had it towed. So they released the car back to me deeming it good to go. Then only 19 days later on June 26, 2022 the HEV light among other lit up again and the dash indicated to pull over and cut the car off due to the hybrid system. I had it towed to the nearest dealership again. The then looked at it and said they reset all the codes and everything looked to be good to go. Then AGAIN on Aug 8, 2022 (3rd time in two months), we were put in a dangerous situation trying to get the car off a busy highway when the HEV light (and others) again lit up the dash and our power went almost completely out while the engine jerked violently as we tried to avoid being hit by cars while trying to get off the highway before it completely died on us. Four times now Hyundai dealers have shrugged this off saying "we reset the codes" and we can't find an issue. We have been put in dangerous traffic conditions three of these times.
The issue that I am having with my 2018 Hyundai Sonata is excessive oil consumption. And yes the vehicle is available for inspection. My family and I are put at risk because of the high oil consumption the engine may seize at any time. I have been told that not only is the engine is at risk but also the exhaust system due to the possibility of oil build up there also causing safety issues. The Sonata has been put through an oil consumption test by a local Hyundai dealership. This consists of changing the oil and then at 1000 mile intervals up to 3000 miles the oil level is checked by a dealer mechanic to check for oil loss. During this 1st test period one check had a loss of 3/4 of a quart and another was 1 3/4 of a quart. After this 1st series of tests there was a complete engine cleaning to remove all built-up oil residue within the engine followed the checking of oil levels again every 1000 miles 3 times. Again, oil losses varied from 1 quart to a 1/2 quart loss. I was assigned a case manager to monitor these tests. At the completion of the testing, after 4 weeks of hearing nothing from my case manager even though I had left multiple messages, he called and said that these results were considered normal by Hyundai. Again, all tests were completed by a authorized Hyundai dealership. There were no warning lights or messages but I did hear a slight knocking noise within the engine. I checked the oil on a regular basis after that and noticed the continued loss of oil. The was no smoke coming from the exhaust or no noticeable signs of oil loss on the engine or my garage floor. Although Hyundai recommends oil changes every 7500 miles I had oil changes every 3000 to 4000 miles by my Hyundai dealer. No one else. I also spoke to mechanics other than Hyundai and was told that there was an ongoing problem with Hyundai engines for oil loss. That is why I initiated the oil consumption test with my dealership.
On the way home from the produce store today, the engine seemed to stall or seize while I was driving and the car reacted in a jerky manner. I kept going, as I was close to home, but could only travel about 20 mph, and it would periodically feel as if it were about to conk out. Check engine light came on at this point. Made it home, but no longer feel safe driving it. Am online now, searching for what to do. What I experienced sounds like the engine recall problem others have experienced, although my 2018 Hyundai Sonata is not on the recall list. Perhaps it should be.
The engine is burning oil. Oil level drops by 3-4 quarts every 1,500 miles.
I was stopped at a red light and when it turned green, I began to accelerate. The car stuttered and the check engine light was blinking. I pulled over and had Autozone run the code. The code is P1326, engine knock sensor. It was put into limp mode and it shook pretty bad in lower gears while accelerating. I had to pull over and let several cars pass me as I couldn't go above 2,000 RPMs. When I got home, I called roadside assistance and had it towed to the nearest dealership. That was this morning (5-4-2022). I just purchased this car used in the beginning of March. I don't have all the records since I just purchased the vehicle used. I just changed the oil last week.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that after filling the engine with oil, approximately 2 months later it was discovered the engine oil level was extremely low. The contact indicated that the engine oil was being consumed at a very rapid pace. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000. Consumer stated it was determined it was a valve cover gasket not pistons as a previous mechanic stated. So no need for recall.

The contact's mother owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while his mother was driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle started shaking inadvertently and would not exceed 25-30 MPH. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact's mother was able to continue to drive the vehicle under 20 MPH. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,913.

2018 Hyundai Sonata sport. Purchased vehicle 03/20/2021 and it has been in the shop 5 times for the same issue. Car starts to smoke and make a loud knocking noise, when checking the oil, it appears to have no oil in the engine at all. Every single time they have changed the oil and replaced it and within a 1,000 miles the oil has completely dissolved in the engine. They performed a consumption test and stated that they did a top engine cleaning for the combustion and that it should not happen again and if it did that they would reach out to Hyundai to start the process of replacing the engine. Took it back at the 1,000 mile mark and they stated that it was fine, but after only a few weeks to a month the car started smoking and knocking again, took it back and yes the engine was bone dry again no oil at all on the dipstick. This vehicle has been in the shop more than I was able to drive it. The oil light keeps jumping on and off and the dealer is aware of this issue and they stated that the manufacturer is aware of this issue as well. But it seems that they are refusing to rectify the issue with a new engine and just keep patching the problem, that I would have to keep taking back every 1,00 miles for a consumption test. The oil ight was present when they sold me the vehicle but the dealership stated that they had performed an oil change and it needed to be reprogrammed but that did not fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the change the oil was changed every 3,000 miles instead of ever 3,500. The contact stated that there was no oil leak found. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 37,291.

6/5/21 2018 Hyundai Sonata - less than 20K miles Turning left into parking lot at very low speed Car completely lost all power and brakes - all dashboard lights etc went out No warning of any kind - nothing evenly remotely like this has happened before Was able to glide into parking spot and stop but only with extreme pressure on brake Key was still in on position - put car in park, set parking brake, turned key to off Car started again and was able to drive about 1/4 mile back home Immediately called dealer from whom we purchased and had car towed No diagnosis as of yet
THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS OUT OF CONTROL FOR THEIR VEHICLES I'VE HAD MORE OIL CHANGES THAT I'VE EVER DONE ON A VEHICLE I'VE DONE OIL CONSTRUCTION TESTS AND THEY ALWAYS SAY IT'S JUST AT THE 1 QUART THAT THEY ALLOW WHO'S IS BULL I'VE CHECKED MY OIL COLD AND IT'S HARDLY ON THE STICK AND THE OIL LIGHT HAS COME ON NUMEROUS TIMES I'M NO GENUS BUT I DO KNOW IT'S MORE THAN A QUART LOW WHEN YOUR OIL LIGHT COMES ON. AT 1,100 MILES IT WAS 2.5 QUARTS LOW AND I WAS FORCED TO DO ANOTHER OIL CHANGE WHEN I ONLY HAD 1,100 MILES ON THIS ONE. THE FIRST PIC I'VE ATTACHED IS COLD OIL LEVEL AT 1,100 MILES AFTER OIL CHANGE. THE CAR ONLY HAS 53K ON IT AND I WANT TO KNOW HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO DO OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS TO GET IT FIXED UNDER THE LIFETIME ENGINE REPLACEMENT AND FORGET ABOUT THE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FROM HYUNDAI THEY TOW 20 MILES THAT'S IT AND THE REST IS ON YOU HOW IS THAT FAIR WHEN IT'S NOT YOUR PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH.
I WAS DRIVING BEGAN MY SONATA IN MODERATE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC.WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE BEGAN LURCHING. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL IT. THE HYUNDAI HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN. I GOT THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ON & SOME MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN THAT I COULD NOT READ BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD & HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALER. UPON RETURN OF THE CAR, THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT HYUNDAI TOOK CONTROL OF THE CAR AS A "SAFETY PRECAUTION" FOR THE ENGINE. THIS IS AN UNSAFE SAFETY PRECAUTION. THEY NOT I CONTROLLED THE CAR.
WHILE DRIVING CAR ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY ENGINE POWER SUDDENLY DECLINED AND VEHICLE HAD NO PICKUP. I WAS UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, I HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. I WAS INFORMED BY THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT MY CAR REQUIRED A COMPUTER SOFTWARE UPGRADE TO CORRECT THE CONDITION. APPARENTLY THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT THERE ARE NO RECALLS CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM.

I WAS DRIVING IN ANOTHER CITY AND MY CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I HAD IT TOWED TO NEARBY DEALER AND THEY SAID I WAS LOW IN OIL, AFTER HAVING IT CHANGED AN MONTH BEFORE. THEY DID OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND FOUND IT TO BE 1 QUART PER 1000 MILES AND LEFT THERE AND 2 MONTHS LATER HAD ANOTHER CONSUMPTION TEST DONE AFTER SEEING MY CAR WAS ONE IN THE CLASS ACTION ON ENGINE AND BEARINGS. THEY FOUND THIS ONE TO BE 1.1 QTS PER 1000 MILES. DEALER SAID NO WAY WILL THEY SEND INFO TO GET A NEW ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. A QT A 1000 MILES SEEMS VERY EXCESSIVE. DEALER SAID THAT YOU NEED TO BE AT 1.5 QT PER 1000 WHICH WOULD BE ALMOST NO OIL WHEN I GO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND 100000 MILES. THIS SEEMS LIKE TOO MUCH OIL TO BE BURNT. AND THEY KNOW THEY HAVE ENGINE ISSUES AND WILL NOT RECTIFY

IN FEB 2020 MY SONATA WENT INTO SAFE MODE AFTER EXITING HIGHWAY AND DEALER ENDED UP REPLACING "KNOCK SENSOR". IN DECEMBER 2020 MY ENGINE "STUTTERED" THROWING ME FORWARD AS IF I HAD HIT BRAKES HARD. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR MESSAGES OCCURRED AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS CAR ACTED NORMALLY MOSTLY. A FEW DAYS LATER AFTER EXITING HIGHWAY AGAIN THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT (ORANGE) CAME ON ALONG WITH ERROR MESSAGE "POSSIBLE CONDITION WITH ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM" HAS BEEN DETECTED. CAR DID NOT GO INTO "SAFE MODE" AND SEEMED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY. I CONTACTED DEALER WHO ASSURED ME SAFE TO DRIVE OVER HUNDRED MILES BACK TO DEALERSHIP IN THIS CONDITION TO CHECK. I DROVE BACK FROM EAST COAST FL TO WEST COAST FL TO TURN CAR IN. I BELIEVE ENGINE ISSUE EXPERIENCED IS RELATED TO THE THETA ENGINE ISSUE AND REPAIR WOULD BE COVERED UNDER SETTLEMENT. DEALERSHIP DISAGREES AND HAS INDICATED ISSUE IS WITH FUEL PUMPS (BOTH ARE BEING REPLACED) AND CHARGING ME $2300.

I TURNED ON MY CAR AND THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TURNED ON MY DASH BOARD. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND IGNORED IT. KEPT DRIVING. THE CAR TURNED OFF COMPLETELY WHEN I WAS TURNINGIN IN A BUSY INTERSECTION. I TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND IT DIDN'T WANT TO EXCELERATE.

EVERYTIME I ACCELERATE MY SUV MAKES A VERY LOUD GRINDING / ? NOISES AND SOMETIMES WHEN I SLOW FROM ACCELERATING. TALKED WITH HYUNDAI MECHANIC THAT SAID THEIR MAY BE A ENGINE PROBLEM. ONLY HAD IT 1 MONTH. I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL BECOME VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IT.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AT ABOUT 45MPH ON MY WAY TO WORK ON A HIGHWAY ROAD AND OUT OF NO WHERE IT JERKED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 2,000 RPMS. WHEN THE CAR JERKED, IT WAS SO SUDDEN IT INJURED MY LOWER BACK. MY BACK HAS BEEN VERY SORE SINCE THIS INCIDENT. I THEN TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND HYUNDAI HAD NOT RECALLED MY SPECIFIC CAR. DEALER WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE CLEARED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. ONE MILE DOWN THE ROAD EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THEIR SHOP WITH NO ETA OF REPAIR.
THIS CAR HAS A MIND OF IT ON WHEN I TURN ON HEAT THE RADIO STATION GOES STATIC VERY BAD ENGINE LIGHT KEEP COMING ON GO TO DEALERSHIP THEY KEEP ON RESET INSTEAD OF FIXING IT YESTERDAY MY STARTER BURN OUT .JUST OUT THE BLUE WITH NO WARNING SIGN IT WAS GOING OUT

THE CAR BUCK GOING THREW LIGHTS IT HAD NO POWER. IT WOULD BOG DOWN WHEN YOU LEASE EXPECT IT. THIS DOESN'T ALWAYS HAPPEN. BUT ONCE HAPPEN AT 1:30AM. THE LIGHT BEEN ON FOR AWHILE. I GO THREW A GREEN LIGHT THE CAR WENT LIP AND THE SEMI LAID ON HIS HORN AT 1:30AM. BECAUSE HE DIDN'T KNOW I BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR MONTHS.THE NEXT MORNING I WENT TO THE DEALER JUST AS THEY GOT THERE NO APPOINTMENT I JUST WALKED IN. I WAS PISSED. THEY CHANGED THE KNOCK SWITCH. IT ALMOST WORKED FOR TWO WEEKS.

MY 2018 SONATA WILL NOT START WHEN TEMP DROPS BELOW 20 DEG F. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES THIS WINTER AND WHEN IT WARMS BACK UP TO 40 TO 50 DEGREE IT WILL START. WHEN I TURN THE KEY ON ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIGHT UP LIKE NORMAL. I CAN MOVE HEAR SELECTOR AND TURN WHEEL. BUT THE STARTER WILL NOT ENGAGE NOTHING IS HEARD NOT A CLICK OR A SHIRT. IS THIS COMMON PROBLEM?

ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE WILL LOOSE POWER AND ABILITY ACCELERATE WITH A FLASHING ENGINE LIGHT. THESE INCIDENTS HAVE ALMOST CAUSED ME TO BE REAR ENDED THREE TIMES BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 60MPH IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A BUSY INTERSTATE AND THE ABILITY JUST STOPS QUICKLY WITH NO WARNING. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS BEEN HAVING THE RPMS DROP TO 0 AND SHOOT BACK UP WHILE BRAKING, AND WHILE DRIVING IT IS TOUGH TO ACCELERATE AND THEN YOU WILL FEEL A NOTICEABLE 'KICK' AND THE RPMS WILL SHOOT UP DRASTICALLY BEFORE IT WILL ACCELERATE. I HAVE HAD 2 SOFTWARE UPDATES DONE, A NEW WIRE HARNESS, KNOCK SENSOR CLEANING AND A KNOCK SENSOR REPLACEMENT. THE ENGINE CODE IS ALWAYS THE SAME 1326.
Mileage: 7,500
ON 2 DIFFERENT DAYS THE CAR KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY. BOTH TIMES THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPT. LOOKED AT IT. THE FIRST TIME, THEY SAID THE SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT WAS WORKED ON A FEW MONTHS PREVIOUS, HAD A GLITCH IN IT. THE SECOND TIME THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT HAPPENED. WHILE DRIVING THE RPMS WILL RACE UP BUT THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE MUCH. THEY SAID IT DIDN'T DO THAT WHEN THEY DROVE IT. ALSO SINCE THE FIRST SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS DONE , IF I DRIVE 80MPH (ON THE INTERSTATE HWY.) THE SEATS SHAKE.
Mileage: 24,600
JUNE 2019, AT ABOUT 11,500 MILES TOOK CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD DUE TO A RECALL, A SOFTWARE UPDATE NEEDED TO BE DONE. AT ABOUT 13,500 MILES, ENGINE LIGHT CAME IN, CAR WAS JERKING IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY AND LOST POWER. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE LAST 62 MPH. CAR WAS SERVICED AND BLOCK SENSOR WIRE HARNESS WAS REPLACED. CAR WAS RETURNED AND AGAIN WHILE IN HIGHWAY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, LOST POWER, CAR WAS JERKING WHILE CHILD WAS IN THE CAR AND WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION. CAR WAS SERVICED AND BLOCK SENSOR WAS REPLACED. AT ABOUT 18K MILES, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE ON HIGHWAY AND AGAIN WITH CHILD IN THE CAR AND CAR LOST POWER AND ALSO WAS JERKING WHILE IN MOTION. CAR WAS SERVICED AND ENGINE REPLACED. 3000 MILES LATER, AGAIN WHILE IN THE HIGHWAY, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CAR LOST POWER AND WAS JERKING AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. CAR WAS SERVICED AND THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN CHICAGO, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR LOST POWER AND WAS JERKING HARD WHILE IN MOTION. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP IN ROCKFORD IL. AFTER THE 4TH ATTEMPT TO REPAIR, LEMON LAW CLAIM WAS FILED WITH HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA WHICH THEY DENIED DUE TO MILEAGE. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN IT LOSES POWER THERE IS NO WARNING, NO BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON TO NOTIFY CARS BEHIND, AND WHILE IN THE BUSY EXPRESSWAY IN CHICAGO WAS VERY DANGEROUS. ALSO DANGEROUS TO HAVE CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE. HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING BUT REPAIRS AND IS IGNORING THE DANGEROUSNESS THIS PROBLEM. THIS OCCURRED ALL 5 TIMES WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. THE CODE THAT READS FOR THIS IS 1326 PER THE SERVICE RECORDS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE EXITING THE INTERSTATE AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE, JERKED, AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUFFENBERG HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 1300 CENTRAL PARK DR, O'FALLON, IL 62269, (618) 622-9001) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE NOX SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE THIRD TIME. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TECHNICIAN RESET THE COMPUTER, THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED, AND THE NOX SENSOR WAS CLEANED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER IN TX, BUT THE FAILURE CODE COULD NOT BE RECREATED. THE DEALER RESET THE COMPUTER AND REPLACED THE NOX SENSOR, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 15894913. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WANTED TO OBTAIN A FIRE REPORT TO VERIFY IF THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE ENGINE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THE MANUFACTURER'S SERVICE CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 953 (ECM & CLUSTER UPDATE-ENGINE MONITORING LOGIC PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT). ROGERS AUTO GROUP CHICAGO (2720 S MICHIGAN AVE, CHICAGO, IL 60616, (312) 620-1340) WAS CONTACTED AND WAS WAITING FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE WITHIN 48 HOURS. ON FRIDAY, MAY 31, 2019, WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I NOTICED MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE WHILE DRIVING. (CAR HAS 14K MILES) I CALLED GOSSETT HYUNDAI AT COVINGTON PIKE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS PROBABLY A ROTOR OR A SPARK PLUG AND TO BRING IT IN SATURDAY MORNING. SATURDAY MORNING, WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE BLUELINK LIT UP SAYING MY CAR NEEDED TO BE SERVICED. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO GOSSETT HYUNDAI AT MT. MORIAH. AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH (IN FRONT OF THE TECH) THEY AGREED TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC (BECAUSE I TOLD THEM I WAS WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING MY CAR TO THE COVINGTON PIKE LOCATION), AND THE TECH INFORMED ME THAT HE WAS A TECH AND HE COULD RUN THE DIAGNOSTIC. AFTER RUNNING THE DIAGNOSTIC, I WAS TOLD THAT ONE OF MY CYLINDERS WAS NOT FIRING. AFTER SOME PERIOD OF TIME, THEY LOCATED AN IGNITION COIL IN THE PARTS ROOM AND REPLACED IT. THE CAR STILL WAS NOT RUNNING CORRECTLY, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAR NEEDED A SPARK PLUG BUT THEY WOULDN'T HAVE ONE UNTIL TUESDAY, JUNE 4, 2019. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED THE SPARK PLUG AND INSTALLED IT (I GUESS?), THE CAR WAS STILL SHAKING AND NOT RUNNING CORRECTLY. SOMETIME JUNE 5 OR 6TH, THEY CALLED HYUNDAI MANUFACTURING AND HAVE BEEN RECEIVING INSTRUCTION FROM THE MANUFACTURER DIRECTLY TO RUN LEAK TESTS. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY ALSO USED A CAMERA TO LOOK DOWN IN THE CYLINDER AND THAT IT HAS 'SCARRING' WHICH COULD BE FROM FLUID GETTING INSIDE? I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS PROBABLE THAT MY CAR WILL NEED A COMPLETE NEW ENGINE. IT HAS BEEN 2 WEEKS AND THE DEALERSHIP IS WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO SEE WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

I PURCHASED THE 2018 HYUNDAI SONATA 2.0T ON 8/27/18. AFTER WE WERE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS AND SITUATIONS, MY HUSBAND AND I NOTICED THAT (1) AT NIGHT, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE WINDSHIELD APPEARED VERY DARK AS IF IT WAS HEAVILY TINTED,AND MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD. (2) WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY OR ROAD, WITH NORMAL BEAM HEADLIGHTS, WE NOTICED THAT THE LINE OF DEMARCATION FROM HEADLIGHT TO DARK ROAD WAS VERY CLOSE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THE REASON GIVEN BY THE MAINTENANCE DEPT WAS THAT THIS WAS SO CARS IN FRONT WOULDN'T BE BLINDED BY THE HEADLIGHT. TO US, IT SEEMED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE AIMED TOO LOW. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE MORE THAN 20 FEET IN FRONT OF MY CAR. WE WERE TOLD THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. ALSO, WHEN MAKING A TURN, THE AREA OPPOSITE THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN IS COMPLETELY DARK BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE HEADLIGHTS WORK ON A TURN. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS-SHOULD SOMEONE DECIDE TO WALK THERE OR IF THERE IS AN ANIMAL, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE ANYTHING. AGAIN I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. (3) MY HUSBAND PUT RAIN-X ON ALL THE WINDOWS OF THE CAR. IT WORKED ON EVERY WINDOW EXCEPT THE WINDSHIELD. WE THOUGHT THERE WAS SOME SORT OF COATING PLACED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I WAS TOLD NO THERE WAS NOT. THEY COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE RAIN-X DIDN'T TAKE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY SPENT QUITE A BIT OF TIME "SCRAPING THE WINDSHIELD", BUT NOTHING CAME OFF. WE STILL DO NOT KNOW WHY IT SHOULD DO THAT. (4) I NOTICED. WHETHER I WAS DRIVING IN SMART OR SPORT MODE, THEIR IS AN ANNOYING HESITATION WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS. WHEN THE STOPLIGHT TURNS GREEN, IT TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE THE CAR IS ABLE TO MOVE AT NORMAL SPEED. WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY RECEIVED LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT, BUT NO OFFER FOR A FIX.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN LEAVING THE DEALER WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE CHECK ENGINE AND THE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM FAILURE DETECTED WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SPEED AUTOMATICALLY DECREASED TO 10 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THEY SLOWLY DROVE BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED. HOWEVER, A WEEK LATER HE WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE WIRE HARNESS HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD SPOKEN TO THE MANUFACTURER VIA EMAIL AND WAS PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER: 15658545. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,713.

I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY AND LOST POWER, COULD NOT ACCELERATE, BLINKING ENGINE CAME ON AND ON MY SCREEN IT SAID "A POSSIBLE CONDITION WITH YOU ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM HAS BEEN DETECTED. A FULL SYSTEM CHECK RECOMMENDED TO BE DONE WHEN CONVENIENT. PLEASE CONTACT YOU LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR AN APPOINTMENT" I WAS ABLE TO GET TO AN AREA AND HAVE IT TOWED. THIS COULD OF BEEN VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS IF I HAD STILL BEEN ON THE FREEWAY DOING 70! I COULD NOT HAVE DRIVEN IT, IT WAS MISSING AND WOULDN'T GET ABOVE 20-30 MPH. I HAD THE KNOCK SENSOR SOFTWARE UPDATE DONE AT THE DEALER THE WEEK PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING. THE DEALER IS SAYING THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDS REPLACED AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH! MANY ON HERE HAVE WAITED MONTHS I HOPE THAT IS NOT THE CASE. I'VE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON HERE AND OTHER SITES THAT THIS IS HAPPENING AFTER THE UPDATE. MY CAR SEEMED FINE BEFORE THEY DID THE UPDATE. SOME PEOPLE NEED NEW ENGINES! HOW DO I KNOW THAT MY ENGINE DOESN'T HAVE DAMAGE, I ASSUME THAT HYUNDAI KNOWS SOMETHING SINCE WITH THE SENSOR UPDATE THEY EXTENDED MY 100K WARRANTY TO 120K. IT SAID THE SENSOR IS TO HELP CATCH POSSIBLE ROD BEARING WEAR AND EXTENDS WARRANTY MUST MEAN THEY EXPECT ENGINES TO HAVE PROBLEMS! WHAT IS GOING ON HERE AND WHY ISN'T THERE ANY OFFICIAL RECALL? MY CAR ONLY HAS 20K I DON'T EXPECT THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. I LEASED CARS FOR MANY YEARS BUT SINCE I'M CLOSE TO RETIRING I BOUGHT THIS WISH I WAS STILL LEASING SO I COULD GET OUT FROM UNDER THIS IN 2 YEARS!

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO BUCK AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SHE PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. SHE CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY TOLD HER NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. WE WERE THEN TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THEY INSTALLED A KNOCK SENSOR WIRING HARNESS AND SAID THEY HOPE THAT DOES THE TRICK BUT IT COULD NEED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. EXPECTED REPAIR TIME IS 6 WEEKS SINCE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER. WE HAVE SINCE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AS WELL AS CONSUMERS AND THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT THEIR CARS FOR MONTHS.

WHILE DRIVING 30MPH APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, MY 2018 SONATA CUT OFF ONCE I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT THE RED LIGHT. I WAS IN CITY LIMITS APPROACHING A HWY INTERSECTION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR RESTARTED AFTER ONE ATTEMPT. ONCE THE VEHICLE RE STARTED IT WAS SLUGGISH,SPUTTERING AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20MPH... I MADE IT HOME SAFELY NONETHELESS. I LEFT THE CAR PARKED FOR APPROX 10 MINS AND IT RESTARTED EASILY. I THEN DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. I WAS TOLD THE CAR STOPPED BECAUSE THE ENGINE SYSTEM REQUIRED AN UPDATE. THE UPDATE WAS COMPLETED AND I DROVE THE CAR HOME. THE NEXT DAY OR MAYBE TWO DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAYING MY CAR REQUIRED A FREE RECALL AND TO SCHEDULE A DATE TO HAVE THE CAR SERVICED. OVER THE PHONE I WAS TOLD SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF THE ENGINE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN THE CAR'S ENGINE CUT OFF IN TRAFFIC I WAS EN ROUTE TO PICKING UP MY TODDLER. I NO LONGER FELT SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND I TRADED THE CAR IN AND CUT MY LOSSES, WHICH WERE SUBSTANTIAL. OTHER PROBLEMS I NOTICED IN THE TIME I HAD THE VEHICLE WERE THAT THE BACK PASSENGER SEAT BELT LOCKED OR ANCHORED IF I LEANED FORWARD SLIGHTLY AND LOW VISIBILITY AT NIGHT THROUGH THE FRONT WINSHIELD.

AT THE SAME TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR BECAUSE IT WOULD JUMP LIKE CRAZY. I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK TO THE PARKING LOT SAFELY. I HAVE BEEN IN A RENTAL FOR A MONTH NOW AND AS OF 04/23/2019 I WAS TOLD THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THE WIRING HARNESS AND THE COMPUTER HAS TO BE REPLACED, BUT THE TECH STATED SINCE THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE THE ENGINE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THE PART WILL BE IN ABOUT 3 TO 6 MONTHS. IF THE WIRING HARNESS DOES NOT WORK GOD ONLY KNOW HOW MANY MORE MONTHS IT WILL TAKE FOR A NEW ENGINE TO ARRIVE. THIS CAR WAS ONLY 9 MONTHS OLD BUT NOW 10 MONTHS OLD WITH ONE OF THE MONTHS BEING IN THE SHOP WAITING FOR REPAIRS.

MY 2018 SONATA WENT TO THE DEALER FOR THE CHAMPAIGN 953 SOFTWARE UPDATE, FOR ENGINE KNOCK SENSOR ENHANCEMENT . AFTER THE UPDATE WAS COMPLETED THE CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO TO PROTECTION MODE CAUSING THE CAR NOT TO ACCELERATE WHEN PULLING OUT OF THE DEALER ONTO A 4 LANE HIGHWAY, NEARLY CAUSING 4 PEOPLE TO INJURED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER AND BY HYUNDAI THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPING BEFORE, BUT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME INSTANCE HAPPING TO PEOPLE ON COMPLAINT SIGHTS. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO MALE IT MANDATORY THAT THESE CARS GET TEST DRIVEN AFTER THE UPDATES BEFORE TURNING THE CARS BACK OVER TO THE OWNERS. IT HAS NOW BEEN 3 WEEKS SINCE OUR SONATA WENT IN FOR THE 953 UPDATE, WE STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED OUR CAR BACK, THE DEALER STATES THEY ARE WAITING ON A WIRING HARNESS TO COME IN. SO THEY ARE PERFORMING A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO DETECT ENGINE NOISE RELATED TO THE KNOCK SENSOR, BECAUSE METAL DEBRIS ARE COMING OFF THE INTERNAL MOTOR PARTS CAUSING FAILURE AND FIRES, THAT CAUSES THE CAR TO GO INTO PROTECTION MODE. WHEN A CAR IMMEDIATELY GOES INTO PROTECTION MODE AFTER THE 953 UPDATE IS DONE, THEY SAY ITS A BAD WIRING HARNESS PICKING UP TO MUCH NOISE. ISNT THAT A SIGH OF ENGINE WEAR THAT THEY WANT TO COVER UP WITH REPLACING A HARNESS THAT WILL NOT DETECT THE NOISE. IT DOES NOT TAKE A ENGINEER TO SEE T.HAT THIS IS A MAJOR COVER UP

I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE TO DRIVE OFF WITH THIS 2018 SONATA 2.0T TRIM IN ENDING OF 2017. FAST FOWARD TO NOW, I HAVE BEEN HAVING ELECTRICAL, LIGHTING AND ENGINE PROBLEMS. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, IT IS HARD TO SEE WHAT'S 30 FEET FROM YOU ON THE GROUND BECAUSE THERE'S SOME PARTS THAT THE LIGHT DOESN'T ILLUMINATE VERY WELL. WHEN I HAVE MY CAR'S INTERIOR LIGHTS ON AUTO MEANING TO TURN ON, WHENEVER I OPEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR, IT DOESN'T TURN ON. SOMETIMES MY HEADLAMPS WON'T TURN ON NEITHER, WHEN I PRESS THE UNLOCK BUTTON FROM MY KEYS. COUPLE OF MONTHS BACK AND STILL IS HAPPENING TO THIS DAY MY CARS ENGINE WILL START UP FUNNY OR START UP A COUPLE OF SECONDS LATE AFTER PUSHING THE START BUTTON. IT EVEN HAPPENS WHEN I LET MY CAR SIT FOR A DAY WITHOUT DRIVING. I'VE BEEN TO THE DEALER NOW AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND I AM WAITING ON THEM TO GET ME SOME NEW LIGHTS FOR THE INTERIOR (PRETTY SURE THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM). I KNOW NOW THAT IT'S SOMETHING ELECTRICAL SEEING ALL THESE COMMENT/ISSUES LEFT ON HERE. I PAID TOO MUCH TO HAVE THIS HAPPENING TO MY CAR. MAYBE I SHOULD OF JUST STUCK WITH JAPANESE SMH. HELP PLEASE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED ITSELF AND WOULD NOT EXCEED 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND LATER TOWED TO JOHNSON HYUNDAI OF CARY (919-439-2059, LOCATED AT 5000 OLD RALEIGH RD, CARY, NC 27511) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ORDERED THE DEALER TO PERFORM MORE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT NEARLY 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, MY CAR SUDDENLY FELT LIKE I HIT A BRICK WALL AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND BEGAN FLASHING. I WAS THEN UNABLE TO ACCELARATE PAST 55 AND FELT MY CAR HAD A VERY SLUGGISH RESPONSE WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS NEARLY HIT BY ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WARNING (BREAK LIGHTS) WHEN MY CAR IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN. I THEN HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED 50 MILES FROM WHERE I WAS TO THE DEALERSHIP NEAR MY HOME. WHEN I BROUGHT IN MY CAR THEY SAID THEY HAD ANOTHER CAR WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. I CALLED AFTER MY CAR HAD BEEN THERE FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE DAYS TO GET A STATUS UPDATE AND THEY SAID THEY STILL DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE ISSUE, BUT THAT A THIRD VEHICLE HAD NOW BEEN BROUGHT IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE. TODAY A WEEK LATER, I CALLED TO GET AN UPDATE AND THE OTHER TWO VEHICLES THEY ARE FIXING WITH A NEW WIRING HARNESS; HOWEVER MINE THEY STILLL ARE UNSURE WHAT THE ISSUE IS. THIS IS NOW THE THIRD ISSUE I'VE HAD WITH MY CAR IN LESS THAN 13,000 MILES. PREVIOUSLY MY CAR WAS HAVING TROUBLE STARTING THE DEALER SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. ALSO MY FRONT RUNNING LIGHT BURNED OUT AT NEARLY 7K MILES.

I WENT INTO PURCHASING DEALER FOR FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 5100 MILES, THEY FLASHED COMPUTER AND LOADED UPDATE HYUNDAI CAMPAIGN 953 PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT. ABOUT 50 MILES AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED MY CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND IS BARELY DRIVEABLE. CAR WAS ALSO HESITATING, AND BUCKING A BIT. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER THEY STATED THE CODE DIDN'T APPLY TO MY CAR AND FLASHED IT AGAIN. IT AGAIN WENT INTO LIMP MODE AFTER 50 MILES OR SO. THE RECALL IS SUPPOSED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN LIMP MODE DUE TO ROD BEARING WEAR. MY CAR HAS 5,400 MILES ON IT AND IT NOW AT A DIFFERENT DEALER. GOT INFORMATION FROM THAT DEALER REGARDING A TBS #19-01-002 AND LOOKS LIKE ENGINE REPLACEMENT OR WIRING HARNESS.
Mileage: 5,400
I WANT TO HAVE ALL CHANGED AFTER THE OIL WAS CHANGED THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR I WANTED TO STALL
I HAD A RECALL PERFORMED ON MY CAR. 'HYUNDAI CAMPAIGN 953 PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT '. 10 MILES AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED MY CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND IS BARELY DRIVEABLE. THE RECALL IS SUPPOSED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN LIMP MODE DUE TO ROD BEARING WEAR. MY CAR HAS 5,560MILES ON IT AND THE ENGINE IS ALREADY FAILING.
Mileage: 5,560
HAD OIL CHANGED ON 1/24/2019, THEY DID THE ECM UPDATE FOR THE KNOCKS SENSER AND AFTERWARDS ON THE WAY HOME THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I ALSO RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM HYUNDAI BLUE LINK SAYING THAT AN ENGINE COMPONENT HAD FAILED. TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY GAVE ME A LOANER. THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO HEAR BACK FROM HYUNDAI IN CA?? SOUNDS LIKE NOBODY KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON??
Mileage: 19,500
I HAD AN OIL CHANGE ON FRIDAY 1/18/2019 THE NEXT DAY I'M DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE USING CRUISE CONTROL AND MY CAR CUT MY CRUISE CONTROL OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND MY CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 20MPH EVEN WITH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE SCREEN IN MY CAR POPPED UP A MESSAGE THAT SAID THE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM HAD SOME TYPE OF FAILURE. 2 DAYS IN AT THE DEALERSHIP AND NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. IT'S NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD, IDLES FAIRLY HARD, AND NOW WON'T ACCELERATE.
Mileage: 17,000
DEALER INSTALLED DOWNLOAD #953 PURSUANT TO A HYUNDAI RECALL. AFTERWARDS THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE AS IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM, AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN. DEALER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS, AND IS HOLDING MY CAR AND WAITING FOR HYUNDAI IN CALIFORNIA TO COME UP WITH ONE. MINE WAS SECOND CAR THAT MORNING THAT THIS HAPPENED TO.
Mileage: 4,200
PURCHASED NEW 2018 SONATA SEL MODEL IN CALIFORNIA. WHILE DRIVING, THE TRANSMISSION STARTS TO HARD DOWNSHIFT WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS HARD DOWNSHIFTING AND JOLTING/THUMPING OF ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ONLY OCCURS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 10 TO 15MPH. IT CAN BE DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS, AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS BEEN GENTLY APPLIED AND LIGHTLY RELEASED BUT THEN THE CAR ITSELF APPLIED ITS BRAKE AGAIN. IT TERRIFIES THE DRIVER'S DRIVING CONDITIONS, MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY.
