CLUTCH WENT OUT, I HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, AND THE CLUTCH WOULD POP OUT OF GEAR THEN JUST WENT OUT. THIS IS NOT DUE TO DRIVER . I WAS DRIVING LUCKILY AT 30MPH WHEN IT WAS LIKE IT HAD NO GEAR SHIFT AT ALL HAD TO PUSH IT TO THE SIDE AND HAVE IT TOWED.

HARMONIC BALANCER SHEDDED CAUSING THE CAMSHAFT TO BREAK STALLING OUT WHILE TRYING TO ENTER A HIGHWAY RAMP.THE CAR JUST STOPPED WHILE PARTIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND RAMP TO ENTER CAUSING A CLOSE CALL FROM BEHIND.A CAR WAS SPEEDING UP TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO LOCK UP HIS BREAKS ALMOST SMASHING INTO ME AT A VERY HIGH SPEED THE A TRUCK NEARLY STRUCK ME ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER TO PREVENT CRASHING INTO ME AT 70 MPH. I HAD NO WARNING. NO SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT EVER WARNED ME OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR ,FORE I WOULD HAVE SERVICED IT IMMEDIATELY .I AM NOT A MECHANIC BUT THE COMPUTER MAYBE WAS NOT SENDING THE CORRECT CODES TO THE WARNING INDICATORS. THIS WAS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM I ALMOST HAD A HIGH SPEED CRASH WITH SEVERAL VEHICLES CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I DID NOT TAKE ANY PICTURES I WAS TO SHAKEN UP AND NOBODY STOPPED TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION. I THEN FINALLY GOT THE CAR TO START AND LIMPED IT OF THE HIGHWAY AND THEN HOME AS I LIVED VERY CLOSE BY. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER AND HAD MY CAR TOWED THERE AT MY OWN EXPENSE . THEN A FEW DAY'S LATER THE SERVICE DEPT. CALLED ME AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THEY COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NO WARNING OF ANY KIND INFORMED ME OF THE DANGER. THEY DID SAY IT WOULD COST ME $1,200.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM NOT TO MENTION THE COST OF THE TOW $85.00 .MY CAR IS AT "RED MCCOMBS HYUNDAI N.W. 1366 IH-10 WEST SAN ANTONIO,TX. 78249 " (844)218-7288 WHERE IT WILL SET UNTIL THE MATTER IS DEALT WITH. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE EVENTS, THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT OF THIS MALFUNCTION THAT IT IS BEING TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JASPER, ALABAMA. THE FIRST TIME I PRESENTED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE DIAGNOSED THE TRANSMISSION WAS RESET AND IT RAN OK FOR A MONTH, IT WAS DURING THIS TRIP I WAS INFORMED THAT SINCE WE WERE THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE THE WARRANTY OF 100,000 MILES WOULD NOT BE HONORED. AS I'VE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BARE THE BRUNT OF A LARGE REPAIR BILL FOR A TRANSMISSION OR NEW COMPUTER BRAIN. SINCE HYUNDAI CLAIMS TO HAVE THE BEST WARRANTY IN AMERICA AS LONG AS YOU ARE THE FIRST OWNER. I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS SITUATION UNTIL I READ THE SMALL PRINT. AT 62,100 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL AGAIN AT A COST OF $1,866.00. I 'M 60 YEARS OLD AND HAVE DRIVEN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH A CLUTCH BEFORE. WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS AGAINST HYUNDAI FOR THE FAILURE OF THIS PART IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THEY DO NOT HAVE TO RECALL THIS MODEL AND REPLACE THESE FAULTY CLUTCHES AND FLYWHEELS. *TR

I LOVE MY LITTLE TIBERON. IT HAS BEEN THE ONLY NEW CAR I EVER HAD OR PROBABLY EVER WILL HAVE. I AM OVER 50 YEARS OLD AND BEEN DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION FOREVER. SO WHEN THIS CLUTCH STARTED TO ACT UP, I STARTED TO CALL IN TO THE DEALERS. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. NOTHING UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY WANTED OVER $2000 TO EVEN START LOOKING AT IT. THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT IF THE FLYWHEEL WAS DAMAGED IT WOULD BE OVER $900 FOR THE PART ALONE. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING! AND NONE OF IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. NEEDLESS TO SAY I STARTED LOOKING AT TRADE IN AND BLUE BOOK VALUES. BUT I AM ATTACHED TO THIS CUTE LITTLE CAR THAT MY DYING HUSBAND LOVED TO TEASE ME ABOUT, SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC I TRUSTED. RESULT: THE CLUTCH IS FINE, STILL SHOWS 50000 PROBABLY STILL AVAILABLE. VALVES AND CONNECTORS ARE FINE. FLYWHEEL IS UNSCRATCHED AND SMOOTH BUT TOTALLY BROKEN. I HAVE THE PART. I CAN SHOW YOU. IN THE COLLAR WHERE THE DUAL MASS IS CONNECTED IT IS FRACTURED AND SNAPPED. MECHANIC SAYS THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE PART TO BREAK THERE UNLESS IT WAS BAD. AFTER RESEARCHING IT HE TOLD ME IT WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL WAS POORLY DESIGNED. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN AFFORD A NEW DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL. THE SHOP SAID THERE WAS A LAWSUIT OUT THERE TO HELP WITH REPAIRS DUE TO THIS DEFECT BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CONNECT WITH IT. I FOUND WHERE THERE IS LOTS OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE 2003 TIBERON LAWSUIT. I AM THE SOLE DRIVER OF A 2007 TIBURON SE. TWO YEARS AGO, WITH ONLY 25,685 MILES ON IT, THE CAR HAD CLUTCH FAILURE, WAS JERKING WHEN GOING INTO 1ST GEAR, AND NOT GLIDING WHEN SWITCHING THROUGH THE OTHER GEARS. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP WEEK AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT DOWN TO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH WOULD TAKE ABOUT 7 HOURS TO DO, AND THEN THERE WOULD BE ABOUT A 10-30% CHANCE THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE DUE TO DRIVER ERROR, IN WHICH CASE, I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF DIAGNOSIS (ABOUT $700) PLUS THE REPAIR. IF THE PROBLEM WAS DEEMED TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART, THEN IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. MY FIRST CAR IN HIGH SCHOOL WAS A SIMCA (STICK SHIFT). THEN I DROVE A TOYOTA TRUCK, THEN A FORD RANGER TRUCK, THEN A FORD MUSTANG. ALL OF WHICH WERE STICK SHIFTS WHICH I DROVE ABOUT 7 YRS EACH, AND NONE OF WHICH EVER HAD A CLUTCH PROBLEM. TO BE TOLD THAT I MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM BY THE WAY THAT I DRIVE WAS SOMEWHAT INSULTING. DUE TO MY PERSISTENCE, THE CLUTCH WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW 2 YRS LATER, THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED AGAIN, AND I AM BEING TOLD THE SAME THING BY HYUNDAI. I AM 54 YRS OLD WITH OVER 40 YRS EXPERIENCING OF DRIVING CARS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS! NOW THAT I SEE THAT THERE ARE SO MANY OTHERS WITH THIS ISSUE, APPARENTLY, A CLASS ACTION SUIT WAS SETTLED ON THE 2003 TIBURON CLUTCHES. THEY NO LONGER MAKE THE TIBURON, PERHAPS THERE WERE JUST TOO MANY ISSUES WITH THEM. PLEASE HELP; THIS IS HAPPENING TO TOO MANY PEOPLE AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. *TR

THERE HAS SINCE BEEN A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST HYUNDAI FOR THIS ISSUE AS THEY KNEW THE CLUTCH WAS FAULTY BUT INSISTED IT WAS THE DRIVER. I HAVE SINCE UPGRADED TO A 2007 TIBURON (BEFORE I KNEW OF THE SEVERITY OF THE CLUTCH PROBLEM) AND NOW AT 47,000 AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME CLUTCH ISSUES. AS I CAN'T AFFORD TO SELL THE CAR I HAVE TO PREPARE TO DUMP AN ADDITIONAL $2000 TO FIX THE ISSUE. *TR

THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME ON MY DAUGHTERS 2007 HYUNDAI TIBURON. SHE BOUGHT THE CAR USED, WITH APPROXIMATELY 11,000 MILES. THE FIRST CLUTCH FAILED BEFORE 12,000 MILES, AND THE DEALER REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY. THE CLUTCH HAS NOW FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME, WITH 30,734 MILES. HYUNDAI SAID IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT WAS A WEAR PART, BUT THEY WOULD PROVIDE THE NEW PARTS AS A 'GOODWILL GESTURE'. I WAS TO TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE LABOR COST OF $720.00 TO THE DEALER. THE POOR DESIGN OF THE CLUTCH, USING A DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, A "PULL" TYPE PRESSURE PLATE, AND A METERING VALVE IN THE SLAVE CYLINDER ALL CONTRIBUTE TO THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE CLUTCHES IN THESE CARS. HYUNDAI HAS MADE ITS POSITION CLEAR, THAT THE FAILURE OF THOUSANDS OF CLUTCHES ON THIS LINE OF CARS MUST BE DUE TO "DRIVER MISUSE", OR "RIDING THE CLUTCH". ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI, THEY HAVE NO LIABILITY WHATSOEVER FOR THIS FAULTY DESIGN. AS MANY PEOPLE ARE AWARE, THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OVER PREMATURE CLUTCH FAILURE IN 2003 AND NOW 2004 MODELS OF THIS CAR. THE LAWSUIT SEEMS TO KEEP EXPANDING WITH EACH NEW MODEL YEAR WHICH USES THIS FAULTY DESIGN. FORTUNATELY, THE MULTIPLE CLUTCH FAILURES IN MY DAUGHTER'S CAR DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, BUT SUDDEN AND CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF POWER ON THE HIGHWAY IS JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CLUTCH FAILURE WAS DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY ONE YEAR OLD. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, HE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME FAILURE AS HIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE. HE PRESENTED HIS FINDINGS TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 37,000.
