2022 HYUNDAI TUCSON HYBRID Unknown Or Other Problems

While driving the engine would not turn on and we were stuck EV MODE. Lost power , had to pull off to shoulder of road and had to turn vehicle off and back on in order for car to move.

While driving, my entire dashboard lit up with every warning sound and symbol for the car. It would cycle through collision, airbags, braking, all of it. Luckily I was able to drive to a safe place. I let the car sit overnight and the alarms stopped. Took it to service and they could not recreate it and no codes showed up. Second time it happened, the warning sounds and lights didn’t stop. The car would jerk when I tried to put it in drive, so I had it towed to dealership. They have video and photos of it. After 2 weeks, they said it was fixed-a pin in a connector was bent. Had car for 3 days and it happened again. Had it towed again. They have had their ‘senior’ techs looking at it, and none can figure it out. There are Reddit posts with this same issue, as well as Hyundai group sites.

The car has had a check engine light on for a week. It sometimes jolts forward when pressing on the accelerator and it does it all of a sudden. Took it to the Hyundai dealership they say it’s due to the egr valve and sub harness.

Our panoramic sunroof sunshade was pulled back with the sunroof closed. Instantly, the sunroof exploded into a million tiny pieces of glass that partially rained down on our heads and shoulders and all over the rest of our car. It was quite a startling sound. There was a hole about 10 inches across in the sunroof and more pieces were continuing to fall out. To protect our heads, I closed the sunshade. Then, we could hear pieces hitting the shade and glass falling behind us on the road. Once we got home, the hole became much larger.

The vehicle hesitates or stalls when pressing the gas, losing power as if it doesn’t recognize when to transition between EV and gas mode. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The issue caused the vehicle to lose power unexpectedly, particularly while driving at highway speeds, which forced me to pull over multiple times for safety reasons. This happened on [XXX] before the [XXX] Tunnel, creating a hazardous situation in heavy traffic. If the vehicle stalled at the wrong moment—such as in an intersection or while merging—it could significantly increase the risk of a crash. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. I have taken the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership, but no official errors or diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been detected. The dealership has not confirmed the issue unless I agree to high-cost diagnostics that may not guarantee a resolution. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been looked at by a Hyundai dealership, but no official findings or resolutions have been provided. The issue persists, and no recall or technical service bulletin (TSB) has been mentioned to me as a possible cause. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lights, error messages, or dashboard alerts appeared before or during the power loss. The issue first started occurring at approximately 35,000–40,000 miles and has continued to around 50,000 miles. While driving down interstate, the panoramic sunroof panel above the driver and front seat passenger spontaneously exploded and shattered. This occurred on a clear sunny morning and there were no other vehicles on the road in the area at the time.

A week ago, I was driving my 2022 Tucson Hybrid Limited on the highway on my way to work around 7:50 a.m. It was a bright day, good weather. I was in the center lane when my car suddenly braked HARD and came to a stop on the highway! My foot was still on the gas pedal, but the Automatic Emergency Braking light was on. I panicked because I had no control over what the car was doing. Thankfully, I was not rear-ended and didn't cause an accident. I put on my hazard lights, shifted into park on the highway's center lane, then back into drive and it seemed fine. There was not really any traffic in front of me that I remember, but there were some cars on either side and behind me that had to swerve around me. I don't trust this car anymore. It is going to get me or someone else killed. I took it to the dealer 2 days ago and the initial inspection didn't show any problems or error codes. They told me I could have it back since there didn't seem to be a problem or they could give me a loaner car and keep testing my car. I have a loaner. I hope they find something wrong with the car, otherwise, I am afraid of my car getting me or someone else killed. I am especially scared after reading about all the others here who have had this same issue.

The Tucson Hybrid has died on the highway multiple times. Seems to happen on long drives the dealer has not reproduced this yet but my car has been at the shop for over 60 days. Car will stop accelerating even when gas pedal is pressed to the floor. Does not seem to be switching from battery power to gas power. No warning messages. First started in April.

While driving, my vehicle suddenly lost all power and didn't respond to the accelerator. The "check engine" and "hybrid system failure" lights came on, jeopardizing my safety and that of other road users. The car overheats significantly, to the extent that the air conditioning only blows hot air. This situation forced me to pull over on the highway shoulder, creating an additional risk for everyone involved in traffic.

On a clear day in December 2023 the sunroof on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid 4d 4wd exploded. There was an incredibly loud bang while driving along Hwy [XXX] outside Wausau, Wisconsin. I had the inside of the sunshade closed. I pulled over at the next exit. It was a beautiful clear day. I drove back to town to the dealer I purchased the vehicle from. They said they had never heard of this happening. Our insurance agent told my husband she had dealt with the same issue 3 weeks earlier. I was sitting in a drive thru lane with automatic hold on tap the gas to move forward and vehicle shot forward into the vehicle ahead of me doing a lot of damage

I got this message on the car screen: check hybrid system!! Last Sunday I was driving when I lost all acceleration and this warning came up and told me to pull over safely

I have noticed this only happens on very cold days and it has Happened 7 times now. The car will be driving along and suddenly lose all power to the point you cannot accelerate above 15 MPH even if you floor the gas pedal. While this happens the Battery indicator will drop to 0 and then a Message Check Hybrid System pops up. Once the car comes to a complete stop the parking brake will automatically engage and will not release. If you shut the car off and turn it back on, A message please wait while battery charges is on the display and will not disengage the parking brake until the battery charges up to about 35-40% . The dealer has looked at the car 4 times and found nothing as no codes ever registered. I even opened a case direct with Hyundai Consumer affairs and they can not seem to find anything wrong with the car nor do they think it is an Issue. I find this to be extremely unsafe for a vehicle to randomly lose power and refuse to come out of park regardless of where on the road you happen to be when this occurs. It has not happened since the temperatures have been above freezing, but with winter a few months away. I completely fear for my safety.

HeV and engine light came on while car was in motion and immediately lost power/decelerated, causing traffic hazzard to other potential drivers due to sudden and unexpected change in speed and inability to move car out of road. There were no prior warnings. Car is in shop and available for inspection.

the inverter refill coolant light keeps coming on. Check the fluid levels with the car running and off and the are full. Contact Hyundai and they have no idea what this is. Seeing this all over the forums for the 2022 Hybrid.

I drive 2022 Hyundai Tucson hyrbrid limited. I have noticed a plastic cluttering noise coming from outside hood area on driver side. This noise is always there at highway speed only. Have already complained to dealership but they act like they are confused and can’t figure out where exactly noise is coming from. Like me many people have complained about this same cluttering problem which nobody has figured out where exactly it’s coming from. But the noise is loud and always there at highway speed. Only way to hide this noise is by playing loud music.

The trailer towing guidance in the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid owner’s manual is incorrect and would put the driver in a dangerous situation if followed. There are at least two key errors: - Page 6-68 states, “The trailer tongue should weigh a maximum of 10% of the total loaded trailer weight . . .” This is incorrect. For stability, the trailer tongue weight should be a minimum of 10% of the total loaded trailer weight. - The table on page 6-69 lists the maximum trailer weight when equipped with a braking system as 3,500 pounds. However, the table also gives that the maximum tongue weight as 220 pounds. That equates to a 6.3% tongue weight. I contacted Hyundai to ask for clarification (see attached email). They told me that “Towing capacity is based on engine power and other such concerns. Tongue weight is determined by the material strength of the hitch, anchor points, etc. and therefore the two will not necessarily coincide.” I then asked them what the tongue weight limitation was based on and they said they did not know. The owner’s manual is over 11 Mb, so I have only to two pages of concern.

I was driving down the interstate going highway speed approx 65-70mph when car began decelerating to a stop. No warning light ever came on.

Driving the car acceleration will go to zero. You can floor it and it will only go to 20mph. The car asked you to pull over safely. They hybrid battery is at zero and warning signs keep flashing. Has happened over three times on a new car. Dealership can’t figure it out. When I look up “HEV warning Tucson hybrid” there are many with same issue. Very, very dangerous issue.

I have a4000 mileage on hundai 2022 tuscon hybrid which I bought brand new on December 2021 and car suddenly won’t start three weeks ago. I have to tow the car to dealership . They called hundai engineers and they told them to remove inside harness which I have to wait for the part for week . After putting that car won’t start and they called again to Hundai engineers and they told them to put harness outside . I am waiting for the other part . This new car should not have this problem . They also not giving me any rental car .

I am writing this letter to formally file a complaint regarding the defective sunroof on my brand-new 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited Edition. I am a medical frontliner and I purchased my car on July 20, 2022. Eleven (11) days after I brought the car home, the sunroof spontaneously exploded, creating a huge crack that spanned the entire width of the car. In addition to that crack, I could see small fissures in the entire back panel of the sunroof. I am grateful that I was not in the car when this happened. It was only upon stopping at a restaurant that one of my passengers, who is tall enough to see the roof of the car, noticed the damage. Upon noticing the crack, I drove the car immediately to the dealership, where I was told that they found a small dent in the roof, which indicated a point of impact. The dealership manager then told me in no uncertain terms that because of this technicality, it was my fault and that there was nothing they could do to help me. In the 11 days that I have had the car, I have not parked under any trees, nor heard any noise that would have indicated an impact of any kind. Furthermore, the supposed point of impact was hairline and we don't understand how that could result in the entire back frame had a two-inch gap crack which runs the entire width of the back roof. I was really looking forward to driving my new Hyundai hybrid. I paid the deposit and waited approximately two months to get my vehicle, and after just 11 days, this happened. I thought that Hyundai would be able to help me, but I feel that they really did not investigate or try to help beyond the initial assessment which took them less than five minutes to conclude. The bottom line is that no car that is sold to the public should have these issues, and if there are multiple complaints of the same issue, the car manufacturer should recall all units and resolve any design or manufacturing issues before releasing them from the factory for sale.

Car died while driving and would not go.

My car’s infotainment constantly and consistently goes black and disconnects and reconnects when connected to Apple CarPlay. This may seem like an inconvenience at first, but it poses a real safety issue when using navigation in an area I’m unfamiliar with. In this case it can cut out for ten seconds or more as I’m about to make a turn, which can distract me or make me make a sudden move or turn to make my destination. It also cuts out phone calls, which can force me to use my phone’s speakerphone and regular phone features which require I hold and/or look at the phone while driving. This is a known Hyundai/Apple issue that seems to be impacting thousands of people. I have an iPhone XR with the latest software (15).

Thankfully we are alive. We were going at speed and he attempted to pass me on the median, grass and rumble strips. He was inches away from my rear bumper, riding me. When I put the turn signal to move away from him he hit my driver’s side rear panel (side swiped), thank God it didn't turn into a pit maneuver and killed us. He then proceeded to take off. So one thing I have to say is, the vehicle has great pick up. I called 911 and went after him to get his lic plate. When I got to be about 10 car lengths or so, he slammed his brakes. Since I was on the left lane, I could not keep going left and risk going into oncoming traffic. Plus, there was a car on the right lane I slammed the brakes and rear ended him on his right rear. He had a 2021 Toyota Tacoma pick up and our hood flipped up and shattered the windshield. The hood stayed up and I was driving blind. All I did was keeping straight, not knowing where I was going and didn’t hit a vehicle, tree, embankment or sign. I went there yesterday and I have no idea how I we didn’t die. I’m so shaken up by it. When we came to a stop, there was a hole about 6 feet from my front tire. We were the victim of road rage and this person caused the accident purposely. He admitted it to the police. He said to the cop, I was slowing down traffic. I suspect with the size of his vehicle and being so close to my rear bumper, he did not see my turn signal. My major concern is the airbags did not deploy and the hood flipped open blocking my view. I was in a forum and this happened to the same model owned by someone else. I suspect this is a design flaw.
