The driver's side rear door cannot be opened from either inside or outside. In researching the problem, I found evidence that the issue is commonly reported with the Model 2016 Hyundai Tucson, which I own. Many other owners have reported that their vehicles have experienced the same issue. Mechanics have also expressed curiosity about why there hasn't been a factory recall. The problem is a design issue in some model years, including the 2016 model year. Inability to access the back seats from the driver's side is an obvious safety concern.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked at the residence, the rear doors on the driver’s and passenger’s sides were not opening as needed after several attempts of locking and unlocking the doors. The vehicle was not towed to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

The driver side door will no longer open from the outside. I have to crawl through the passenger side to open the door from the inside. According to a Google search, this is a common issue with this car.

The issue that is prominently in other Hyundai cars is the rear back doors will not open to be released. The locks will unlock and lock and it has no correlation with key battery and power to the door; the issue is the latching mechanism itself. This is a hazard to those who need to get out of vehicle in serious and emergency situations and having a door failed on a latching mechanism is not okay. This is also an issue to parents or guardians who travel with kids and use the child safety lock, and there is not a proper solution to this issue without tearing the door apart and having that be paid out of pocket of their own expense because a door latching mechanism has failed them. The responsible owner of this situation needs to be addressed and resolved by Hyundai, itself.

Arrived home and went to open rear passenger door to remove recently purchased groceries and rear door will not open. I've tried locking, unlocking, trying to open from the inside and outside and door just won't open. Awaiting service appointment and diagnosis.

Mar 13, 2023

On the way to work this morning, the rear lift gate came unlatched and did not stay secure. Although the lift gate did not raise while on the highway, it did rattle and bounce. The temperature outside was approximately 21 degrees Fahrenheit. A couple other similar events have occurred at below freezing temperatures.

Mar 7, 2023

The door latch has failed on now 2 of my doors. The rear driver side door will not open from either the inside or outside and the front passenger door will not open from the outside without pulling the handle 5 to 7 times. I have looked at the other comments from other people with this car and this is a known issue, this should be made a recall since so many people are having the same issue.

I am having problems with the driver side door. The latch is not working properly. The door gets stuck and doesn't open all the time from the outside. Or I have to tug hard 2 to 3 times before it will open. I had this problem with the passenger side door. It would only open from the inside. Hyundai fixed this for free because it was still under warranty. Now I'm having the same issue with the driver side door. I read in all the reviews and comments that other people are having the same issue and have filed a complaint but nothing has been done. Why is this no getting solved? or Recalled? I bought my 2016 Hyundai new. It only has 43, 000 miles. I take good care of my Hyundai. What is Hyundai going to do to resolve this matter. How many people need to file a complaint in order to get this resolved? A response will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 2016 Hyundai Tucson Front Right Passenger door latch does not allow door to be opened from the outside. No warning. Research shows this as a definite safety issue on several Hyundai models and has been for years but see no recall. Doors can be impacted from both inside and outside with no warning. Crawling over the seats from the inside to open the door or being trapped in vehicle are a real possibility. I have a scheduled appointment but understand it could be a costly repair that should be considered a replaceable manufacturer’s defects AND A SAFETY HAZARD!!!! Car only has 66,000 miles.

Rear liftgate did not latch on three occasions this winter when temperatures were below freezing down to -4 degrees. The liftgate would lower but not latch properly. Dash would indicate that lift gate was not latched. Attempts to latch manually were unable. During the drive home, the lift gate would moved freely. In order to not risk spilling cargo, we moved everything out of the trunk area.

Rear door on the driver's side will not open from the outside or the inside. This is a known problem but there is no recall. I called my local dealership and they won't guarantee that this is under warranty, and they won't give me an appointment for 6 weeks. Hyundai and it's Service Reps are clearly not concerned with their customers.

Jan 28, 2023

Driver's side passenger door sounds like it is unlocking when I use the key fob or the interior power lock on the driver's door, but the passenger door can only be opened if I reach from the driver's seat across the center console to manually open the door using the handle. No way to open the door from the outside using the outer handle, even if it looks like the lock is fully open from the inside. No dashboard warning symbols. This appears to be the subject of a technical service bulletin, Hyundai TSB 21-BD-006H, so I will be contacting my local Hyundai dealer next week to set up an appointment for diagnostics and repair, hopefully covered under the extended warranty described in the TSB.

Driver Door and right rear door are having issues opening. Unable to open right rear passenger door at all which is a safety concern. Hyundai dealer stated nothing was wrong when I first reported the front door handle issues

Aug 28, 2022

Both the rear driver side and rear passenger side door lock actuators have failed, making it impossible to open either door from inside or outside the vehicle. This is very dangerous in general, but especially young children are in the backseat.

Aug 24, 2022

Rear passenger door suddenly would not open from either the inside or outside. My child was in the car, and I could not get him out for some time. This was a safety concern even without an accident or emergency, and creates a potentially fatal situation if there is an accident or fire where a child would need to be retrieved from the vehicle. From internet searches, this is not an isolated incident, and should be addressed by the manufacturer. As a note, this is in addition to, and distinct from, the known issue of the front doors wearing out and not opening from the outside.

Aug 22, 2022

Rear drivers side door latch stopped working unprovoked. The door was working fine and was parked for the night. The next morning the rear drivers side door would not open from inside or outside upon unlocking doors. This is a safety concern due to the fact that in the event of an accident emergency services would have a difficult time accessing the rear passenger area of the vehicle delaying any medical attention that would possibly be needed in the event of an accident.

Aug 18, 2022

Door locks do not unlock. Cannot get out of the car from inside and cannot get in to the car from the outside.

Aug 9, 2022

Door handles on vehicle not working. When you go to pull back on the door handle it won’t open. I couldn’t get my Nephew out of the car. Very frightening. Had to crawl through the hatch to get to him. It started one day with my driver door and I had to pull back at least twice or more before it opens. Now the front passenger’s side door will not open unless pulling the handle from inside to let them in. Back doors are not wanting to open from outside. The day my Nephew was trapped no door would open. Thank god the hatch opened. This is a serious safety issue. Makes me nervous that one day I won’t be able to open my car doors from the inside too. I had trouble with that yesterday on the front passenger door. I don’t have kids and it’s just me a single lady that lives 5 minutes from work. I typically don’t have kids in my vehicle, this was the first time. Made me look like a bad auntie putting my brother’s child in danger. There is hardly any wear on my vehicle, so there must be an issue with the door handles in general.

Aug 8, 2022

3 of the 4 doors of my 2016 Hyundai Tucson are suddenly unable to be opened from the outside or the inside. There has been no damage to the vehicle. The driver door is able to be opened at this time. This is a major safety issue as passengers are not able to exit the vehicle in the case of an emergency/children passengers are not able to be removed from the vehicle. This seems to be a widespread issue for 2016 Hyundai Tucson customers. Internet thread included below: https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t57988_ds1084478

The passenger door will not open after being unlocked

Jul 30, 2022

Back passenger door will not open from time to time from the outside or inside. It unlocks and everything but you have to keep trying before it opens. I looked this up and it is common for the 2016 Hyundai Tucson. This is a defect that can be dangerous under certain circumstances.

Both rear doors do not open from the outside or inside, no child lock engaged. Usually takes several tries locking/unlocking to get door open. In the event of a crash, passengers would not be able to exit the vehicle. Not inspected, and no warning lamps.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that after locking the front passenger’s side door, the door was seized in the closed position and could not be opened when unlocked. The contact indicated that extreme force was needed to pull the door handle while attempting open the door. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 52,000.

Rear passenger door will not open from outside or inside after unlocking. Basically, the door stays locked. Only after repetitive banging on the door handle (outside) will it sometimes open (more often it just stay locked - it may be days and dozens of attempts before it haphazardly opens). Additionally, the front drivers side door does not open on the first pull from the outside (it requires at least 2 pulls - sometimes as many as 4 pulls to finally open). Finally, the front passenger door is experiencing similar problems where it may take a second pull to open the door (this door only recently started having this problem and it opens normally most of the time). It can't be a coincidence that 3 out of the 4 doors on this vehicle are having problems with the door locks. So far the front doors open fine from the inside but the rear drivers side door is a serious safety hazard as I have a 3 yr child that sits in the back seat regularly. A simple google search brings up dozens of links and articles where owners of the same model vehicle are complaining of the exact same problem. It's obvious that this is a common issue with this vehicle but so far no recall even acknowledgement by the manufacturer has been issued. This is a safety issue - PLEASE HELP

Locks and Latches have stopped working. My rear passenger and driver side latches do not open. It is a safety hazard for anyone riding in my vehicle.

Jul 9, 2022

Passenger side front door lock intermittently does not unlock either by pressing door handle or remote control. Passenger can be trapped inside of vehicle in the event of an emergency egress being needed. Problem is intermittent for now, but growing in frequency!

The car doors don’t open even after unlocking. I can hear and see the door is u locked but the door doesn’t open from outside. Unable to open the door and get my kid out in case of emergency

Jul 1, 2022

Driver side door doesn’t open after unlocking unless you yank on handle 10+ times, and now driver side window no longer goes up. Motor works for window to go down but not up, so it is now a safety concern! A quick Google search reveals countless 2016 Hyundai Tucson owners experiencing the exact same thing- and always with the driver door only.

The driver's side front door and rear door lock actuators failed in both the doors and you are unable to open the doors from the exterior of the vehicle after the doors have been locked. The only way to open them is to go around and open them from the inside of the vehicle. This is a major safety concern due to not being able to quickly access the vehicle from the outside to get someone out of the car if it was to be involved in a wreck/on fire. As a first responder this is a situation that I have encounter in my work experience and could be the difference in someone living or dying in a collision. This issues is well documented online and with the dealership when I called to discuss it with them. This part does not have any warnings before it fails and one day it just stops working. Our vehicle is a 2016 and has around 50,000 miles so it is not old by any means. I have not had any of the parts examined by anyone such as the insurance company but I am a police officer that is trained in Advance Crash Investigation and Crash Reconstruction.

Jun 15, 2022

Rear driver side door handle does not open, seems to be a safety issue with this car

Jun 13, 2022

BOTH REAR DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM OUTSIDE OR FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. CHILDREN PASSENGERS HAD TO CLIME TO FRONT TO EXIT CAR. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

Jun 4, 2022

My 2016 Hyundai Tucson has repeatedly had a major safety issue when one of the doors will suddenly completely stop working. One day a door will work fine, and after no accidents, impact, or any other known factor, the door is completely unable to be opened. The handle operates as intended, but the door itself does open. In the 4 years I have owned my car, I have had to repair 6 instances of this problem (2 of the doors having this issue again after initial repair). This issue includes my driver side door, where I have had to crawl through the car to get out. Apparently this is a known issue impacting a large amount of Hyundai Tucsons. This is obviously a major safety issue. If these doors cease operation for seemingly no reason due to some poorly designed / manufactured component, I can’t imagine they could withstand any sort of vehicle collision / accident. I hesitate to imagine a situation where someone is in some sort of collision and need to escape a burning vehicle / pull a child out of a vehicle and their doors do not work.

Jun 1, 2022

Driver Side door no longer opens from the outside after it has been locked. Rear Driver Side door no longer opens from the inside or outside handle. Seen numerous reports and accounts online report this same issue. I have a 6 month old child and cannot have the doors on my car not opening.

2016 Tucson rear doors wouldn’t open

May 13, 2022

The front driver side door does not open when unlocked. It seems to me a known issue that the lock actuator tends to fail on these doors. This is a huge safety concern.

Door latch failure. The door latches do not work, and become un-openable. 11/2020 & 04/2022. Yes it is currently available for inspection with a non-operational door. Safety issue, cannot exit the car. Cannot get kids out of the car. I cannot get out of the car. No one can open the car door that is affected when unlocked from the inside or the outside of the car. Yes, there are articles, fixes and my personal mechanic and Hyundai mechanics have addressed the previous same issue in 11/2020. The car was inspected by a Hyundai dealer 10/2020 who gave me a quote to replace the door latches and locks. The car was inspected by my mechanic at a Chevrolet dealership as well, who installed part #Hyundai actuator motor Front door lock 81310D3010. The car has not been inspected by police or insurance. The car has had same failure in drivers door that was fixed by a different car manufacturer. The car currently has a different door latch failure. There are no warning lamp indicators. The door simply will not open at all when unlocked causing a problem for anyone to exit the vehicle in an emergency.

There appears to be a dangerously common malfunction on my 2016 Hyundai Tucson. Without any warning or indication of failure I am unable to open either of my rear passenger doors. Neither from inside, nor outside. The door locks appear to lock and unlock, manually and/or electrically, but the none of the door handles work. First the rear right side, followed by the rear left side a day later. It would be impossible in an emergency for someone to exit or be removed from the vehicle. God forbid there was a fire, or child stuck in a car seat. Vehicle is available for inspection. Though have not been able to have a dealer inspect it yet...Hyundai is not returning my calls. How can this not be a recall yet!! Do innocent people have to die first? There's no reason to have "tombstone legislation". Be proactive.

Passenger rear door will no longer open on first try after locking and unlocking vehicle

Apr 18, 2022

Passenger door has to be forced open when unlocked. Once opened the door works fine. Door works fine from inside. This is a safety issue because if n an accident happens and can't get in the driver's side, rescue workers couldn't get into the passenger side. I've read many customer complaints for the same issue with all doors. This should be a recall.

Apr 17, 2022

The rear doors on both driver and passenger side will not open. They will not open from the outside or inside. This is a safety concern since I have children in car seats. I am not able to secure my children in their seats. My children are not able to exit my vehicle safely. If I were to be in a collision, first responders would not have access to my children. This is not the first Hyundai Tucson to have this problem as from further research, hundreds or owners have complained of this exact problem. Someone should be held responsible and accountable.

Apr 4, 2022

Multiple door latches failing all within the past 6 months, UNABLE to open from inside or outside. Rear doors both failed within weeks of each other. Front driver's side door is now beginning to stick, which is how the other failing doors began to initially fail. If you Google this issue, you will see it is a common problem for 2016 Hyundai Tucson model. This is a critical issue as all door latch assemblies are failing at the same time on my vehicle, which will make it nearly inoperable, as well as a safety issue if I or my 3 children are unable to enter or exit the vehicle. I took the vehicle to a local ASE certified repair shop and they stated that the cables inside the latch assembly become stretched or compromised. They were able to perform a temporary fix, but they said in order to completely fix the issue, the entire latch assembly needs replaced. The temporary fix did not even last for 3 days and cost me $300. Cost for the assembly part alone for one door is approximately $200. If you add that to labor, I will be spending nearly $1,600 to replace all 4 door latch assemblies. This should not be the consumer's responsibility as it is an ongoing issue for this make and model year. I have submitted a complaint for recall directly to Hyundai US, but this is a critical issue, and something needs to be done immediately!

The drivers side door almost never opens on the first try, I usually have to pull the handle twice. Recently the passenger side back door will not open from the inside or outside, despite being unlocked. This is a huge safety concern if I were in an accident and could not open this door. I have seen DOZENS of other reports of people having this same issue and a recall should be issued immediately to fix this potential life threatening and dangerous issue.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving 55-60 mph, she heard an abnormal noise. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that she was able to park on the side of the road before the vehicle was seized. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to her residence. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, started to experience failure with the brakes. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and was informed that the VIN was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V543000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics). The dealer completed the recall repair however, the failure with the brakes recurred. Additionally, the rear driver’s side door failed to open. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 39,055.

The locks in the doors do not alway unlock and sometimes stick. When in a accident or and emergency I won’t be able to get my kids out of the back seat due to the doors not always wanting to open. The front door does not open till the third pull at times. The back doors take a good 15 hard pulls for the lock to open. It shows unlocked inside while not opening from the outside or inside. You just get lucky to it finally opening sometimes.

Both of my rear doors will not open. It started with the rear passenger side door and as of two days ago now my rear driver side door will not open either. I am also having some problems with my driver door, sometimes it won’t open until the second try. I searched online and this seems to be a common problem. This is a safety concern, I am not sure how there isn’t a recall for this.

Sep 17, 2021

Back rear doors do not unlock. No matter how many times you press the unlock button they just do not unlock. Nothing has been done to the doors or just started out of no where. This is a huge safety problem. If there is a crash or emergency there's no way for the back doors to open. It started with one door and now the second is doing the same thing. You have to either push the door in trying to get in or pull the door towards you if your trying to get out. I looked into this and there are several other complaints about the same thing.

Sep 16, 2021

Once my car door is unlocked from the outside it WILL NOT open! My son also owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson and the SAME thing is happening. I have been hearing of this happening for many, many more Hyundai owners. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE as one is unable to get into the car or get out of the car. This could pose a risk in the event that my granddaughter is stuck in the car under dangerous circumstances or that I am or if someone with a physical limitation is in the car...needing to quickly exit the car OR even to quickly gain entrance to the car. I have read other owners' posts about the blasé, even bored, responses from Hyundai and that just diagnosing the issue costs around $100. Also, even if the car is still in warranty and the item is replaced, one still has to pay for labor! It will also cost around $4000 to get all 4 doors repaired. RIDICULOUS!! While this is a major inconvenience, it also puts the driver and passengers in DANGEROUS risk of injury just to get out of the car! Hyundai HAS AN OBLIGATION TO MAKE THEIR VEHICLES SAFE. This should be a safety recall and 100% covered by Hyundai. Thank you

Sep 7, 2021

We have had 3 doors malfunction to the point where they can't be opened (even from the inside) and need to be repaired. This is a safety issue because it could prevent safe exit from the car in the event of an accident. This is a commonly reported issue with 2016 Tucsons and should be the subject of a recall. For more information see here: https://www.hyundai-forums.com/threads/rear-passenger-door-wont-open.603329/page-4

Sep 5, 2021

Very common problem in the 2016 Hyundai Tucson that is a safety hazard. The locking mechanism becomes unresponsive and the doors can only be unlocked from within. The driver door in this vehicle specifically can no longer be unlocked from the outside. In case of an emergency situation the driver would ne be able to be pulled by opening the door, the window must be broken or someone else must enter the vehicle to unlock the driver side door from within, assuming the doors are unlocked.

Aug 24, 2021

First, in 2019, my front driver’s side door stopped working. I could only open it from the inside if I kept my doors unlocked and eventually couldn’t open it at all and I had to crawl in and out of the passenger seat when it wasn’t working. The dealership repaired it because it was under warranty but I still had to pay for everything but the part. Now, In 2021 my front passenger door is doing the same thing. What’s worse? My rear passenger door won’t open AT ALL. I have two children and I have to pull them out of the window on occasion. We had to pull over on the freeway in an emergency and I had to PULL MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE WINDOW. If we’re in an accident I’m terrified of what will happen since we can’t use half of the doors. This is a major safety issue and I’m terrified for my family to use this vehicle. Since my warranty expired 3 months before the second and third door had the issue, it’s going to cost me over $1400 to get this repaired. I’m a single mother of two and this is causing hardship in addition to the safety issue. I’m getting it repaired and I can update with the invoice of the repairs.

Aug 21, 2021

In late 2020 my airbag had to be replaced for numerous malfunctions, at the same time my passenger side front door would not open on the first try with the key fob. 8 months later, now my driver door is doing the same thing and I'm no longer under warranty. It's ridiculous this isn't a recall with so many similar complaints. My doors unlock but still won't open until I tug on it numerous times. If it stops working completely it is a real safety hazard.

Rear passenger door will not open from inside or out. This happened with no warning. Grandchild was in rear seat and could not get out. This is a safety issue. The door actuators should be recalled.

This safety problem has now occurred twice. The passenger door is sticking and takes 5 or 6 times to pull on the handle to open the door. The door opens from the inside but not the outside. This same problem occurred in 2020 on the drivers door. The safety of others are put at risk because I have elderly parents that need to be transported and the door can not be open. This problem was reported to the dealer about a year ago since it occured on the other door(drivers door) of the car. The vehicle has only been inspected by the service department at the dealership. There were no warnings or messages prior to the problem failure.

Aug 18, 2021

Initially, a couple weeks ago my back passenger side door stopped opening consistently from the inside. Locking and unlocking the door repeatedly would fix it. Now, with the key or inside unlock buttons, the driver and passenger side front door will visibly unlock but not open from the outside until the car has been opened from the inside - meaning you have to crawl through the back to get your doors open. The doors do not always open from the inside, as well, across the board now. That’s a huge safety risk if there were an accident or fire.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 MPH and attempting to accelerate, there was a grinding noise coming from the vehicle. Additionally, if the accelerator pedal was not depressed a certain way, the vehicle would stall. The oil light would illuminate upon starting the vehicle and would disappear after a while. The contact would restart the vehicle 3-4 times before the vehicle would regain proper functionality. The failure occurred again while driving 50 mph. The doors failed to open from the inside or the outside except for the driver side door. However, for the driver’s door the contact had to lift the handle twice before the door would open. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.

1. Back passenger door won’t open from inside or outside 2. AEB AND BDS sensor light stays on on the dashboard. No wreck and cleaned all sensors but warning lights remains on.

Aug 6, 2021

Hyundai Tucson door latch failure. Unable to open rear passenger door from the inside or the outside. If I were to be involved in an accident with passengers in the vehicle there would be no way for the passengers to exit the vehicle, which could result in someone dying. This vehicle has only 55,000 miles on it and Hyundai is aware that this is an issue on their vehicles but is failing to address it. Would like Hyundai to address this issue before it does result in a fatality.

Aug 4, 2021

Rear Passenger and Driver door handles do not open from the outside OR the inside. I can hear the locks clicking but the handle just will not open the door from either side. Also, after unlocking my driver door handle, I have to pull it twice for it to open. This is a huge safety issue. I cannot have anyone ride in my backseat. It is essentially useless and it seems it is just a matter of time that my driver door handle go out also and I get stuck or cannot enter through my door. This is not normal wear and tear.. this is a malfunction and from what I have read is very widespread.

Aug 3, 2021

Rear drivers side door latch is locked shut and will not open from the inside or outside. This is a safety issue because if someone is riding in the back seat and the vehicle was to start on fire or is in a crash and the person sitting there is unable to escape, due to the door being locked shut, they would die. I took the vehicle to the dealer and their solution was to replace the latch in the door. This door handle/latch has rarely been used and has been well taken care of.

The rear door will not open. The vehicle only has 52,000 miles and nothing was done to cause this failure. After research, his is a known issue with the Hyundai Tucson and could be a safety issue if passengers need to exit the vehicle quickly. The door actuator's in certain years of the Tucson are known to fail.

Jul 29, 2021

Rear passenger side door handle suddenly will not open from the inside or outside of the car. Only 34,000 miles on the car and rarely use the back seats or doors. Door handle worked fine and a short drive later no longer opens from inside or outside.

Rear passenger side door will no open from the inside or outside. Additionally, have to pull on the driver's side door forcefully at least three times in order to open when attempting to enter the vehicle. My safety and the safety of my passengers is in jeopardy if we are unable to exit or people are unable to properly enter the vehicle in an emergency. There were no warnings provided by the vehicle before the issue began.

My car is a 2016 hyundai tucson with about 24,000 miles on it and bought brand new. I have had multiple issues from the beginning. I would have issues with my car turning off then it would leave me in stuck and wouldn't excelerate and almost killed me multiple times so I had it in the shop for the third time. Finally, it was soo bad that they put a new transmission in under my almost expired 5 year warranty. My car has been doing better since the new transmission so that is good so far, but wanted to tell you since other ppl are struggling with this as well and should be a recall and we should not have to pay for it at all. Second complaint is that my car is NOW experiencing door lock issues which makes it a huge safety issue as well. It unlocks the actual button inside but the handle takes multiple pulls to open from the outside. So I had to crawl over to push the door open to get in the passenger side, sometimes it will NOT open at all which is very scary. It all sounds like these make and models are the pits when I google issues. So I am hoping to add this to a safety recall which it definitely should fall under one. Thank you for your time and consideration :)

Jul 21, 2021

The driver side window motor failed and window is stuck in the closed position. The front passenger window motor has failed and that window is stuck in the down position. Last, we are unable to open the driver side rear door where my daughter sits from the inside or outside. This is not only frustrating but a major safety issue for occupants in the vehicle.

Jul 20, 2021

The back drivers side door will not open. Can not get child out of car in an emergency situation because the door can not be unlocked or opened. This seems to be a problem for other Hyundai Tuscons. There was no warning about this issue. I went to open the door to let my child out and the door could not be opened.

Jul 16, 2021

The Doors are failing. Eventually, the actuator fails and cables stretch due to use. The door cannot be opened from the inside nor the outside. In an emergency situation where a door needs to be opened from the exterior even when the doors are unlocked, an emergency responder would not be able to access the vehicle. Additionally, if the vehicle had an emergency situation where the occupants of the vehicle needed to disembark the vehicle, the vehicle doors do not open even though child locks are no engaged. This is a very serious and high risk of concern and issue and must be brought forward for review and resolved as soon as possible. Bringing this vehicle to the dealership for repairs does not always guarantee proper repair. If the actuators are at fault and that is being replaced with the same Original Equipment Manufacture parts, this is going to be an ongoing issue possibly deadly.

Jul 10, 2021

2016 Hyundai Tucson rear passenger door is stuck closed. When door has been unlocked, door cannot be opened either from the inside or the outside of the vehicle using the door handles. The Passenger becomes trapped inside the car and should something happen, they cannot exit the car immediately if needed. Someone on the outside of the car is unable to open the door to assist any passenger trapped inside. A dealer or independent service has not yet reproduced or confirmed the problem and I will be contacting my dealer to have them address the issue. However, after researching this problem, I found numerous posts complaining that this fix is very costly and it is possible that all four doors will experience this same problem soon. At this time, no manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others have inspected the vehicle but based on the numerous complaints online, this issue should already be a recall on these vehicles. The only symptom was that the door did not open once it had been unlocked.

Jul 7, 2021

Rear passenger side door will not open from the inside or outside. Happened right after parking. Tried using the remote key and manually unlocking, flipped child safety lock on and off, nothing worked. The door won't budge. Passenger had to climb over our child's carseat to get out on the other side. Major safety hazard if the car were on fire or flipped over, especially for our child whose carseat is in the back. No warning or error message in the car. We've researched and found thousands of reports from other Hyundai Tucson 2016's with the same exact issue (often starting with one door and then spreading to all four others). I don't feel safe driving the car in case it spreads to the other doors. This needs to be a recall ASAP. Happy to have our car inspected if needed. Have not yet gone to a dealer but plan to soon.

Rear driver side door handle stuck and unable to open from outside or inside. Extremely unsafe due to not being able to exit the vehicle in case of fire or accident.

Jul 3, 2021

The driver side door will not open.. You can unlock with the fob or button on the door, or the mechanical Key. The same issue will all methods. Inside or outside latch, but the handle will not open the door at all or there is a long delay. Very dangerous if you needed to exit the vehicle quickly.

Jul 2, 2021

Door handle mechanism won’t open the door. It started with one back door and now all but the driver door are stuck shut. It is a safety issue for passengers who cannot get out of the car. Please read the forums to see how many of us Hyundai owners are experiencing this issue making it an obvious problem with faulty equipment. Thanks

Rear driver side door latch will not open when unlocked. Believe it is actuator issue. Will not open from inside or outside. Front driver side lock will intermittently not release lock/will not open.

Jun 28, 2021

The rear doors do not open from inside or outside. We have attempted to pull the battery for a potential reset, without success. Both doors became inoperable simultaneously. The electric locking mechanisms work. The electric windows go up and down. We noticed this on a multi state road trip with backseat passengers. In the event of an accident, the backseat passenger would not have egress from the vehicle.

My rear driver side door will not open from the outside or the inside. This is a serious safety issue. If a person or even a child is in the back of my car, how are they supposed to exit the vehicle in an emergency if they can't get the door open? Hydundai is saying the door not latching is not a safety concern, it is.

Jun 23, 2021

When obviously unlocked, can feel lock disengage and see lock indicator pop out, door does not open unless handle is pulled multiple times. Driver side was repaired under warranty; both passenger side doors have the same problem but started after warranty.

Jun 23, 2021

Door actuators are failing causing doors to not open/be permanently locked. I have paid to repair one (which I don't have any confidence in), it's happening to another already, and countless others I've read are having the same issue. I hope that I don't run into the issue in a real emergency.

Jun 22, 2021

Rear passenger doors will not open even when unlocked, child safety feature is not on. This is a safety concern in an emergency situation. Doors will not open from the inside or outside.

Jun 19, 2021

Left passenger door will not open. I have found multiple examples on the internet. The door will not open using the inside or outside handle.

Jun 18, 2021

I am having the same problem as hundreds of others were the door actuators in 3/4 of my doors no longer function properly. Driver's side rear door cannot be opened from the inside or out. Front two doors have to be opened from the inside. Passenger side rear door is the only one that works properly.

Jun 16, 2021

THE LEFT SIDE REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE .. ALSO NOW THE DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY. NOT BEING ABLE TO GET MY CHILD IN OR OUT OF THE CAR ON THE LEFT SIDE IS VERY WORRIESOME IF THERE WAS ANY TYPE OF AN EMERGANCY. IT HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED AS OF YET BUT I AM TAKING IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW 6.17.21. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR NOTIFICATION DESCRIBING THE DEFECT OF THE DOORS.

Jun 16, 2021

The locking mechanism of the driver's door as well as the rear door on the driver's side has malfunctioned. The driver's door requires the exterior handle to be pulled 3-6 times before the door will open (it opens on the first pull from the inside. The rear door does not open at all from either the inside or the outside. The issue with the driver's door started to occur in Feb 2021, or at approximately 50k - 55k miles. The issue with the rear door started to occur in May 2021, or at approximately 55k - 58k miles. I have not yet had the issue inspected by a dealer or independent mechanic, but will be soon. The rear door is a significant safety issue. If a severe enough accident occurred including a fire or rollover, or a collision to the passenger side that rendered the passenger side doors inoperable, occupants in the rear seat would not be able to exit the vehicle. I am also worried that the driver's door and possibly the passenger side doors will begin to not function at all. I have ready on many Hyundai forums that this is a common issue to all Hyundai models manufactured in the 2010s.

Jun 15, 2021

UNKNOWN- the rear passenger door won’t open from the outside or the inside of the car. And now this issue is happening with both rear doors and the drivers side door. In order to get into the drivers seat, you have to get in through the passenger side door and crawl over. When I Google this safety concern, it seems like this has happened too many people. I’m concerned because if this has happened to others and if anyone gets into a car accident, no one can get out, without trying to break a window and crawl out.

Jun 14, 2021

My front passenger door and rear driver passenger door will not open from the outside or the inside. Issue with door latch mechanism. Mechanism was repaired approx. 1 yr ago on passenger rear door. Safety issue since doors can not be opened from inside if am emergency happened. Child age 5 rides in car regularly. Big safety concern.

Jun 14, 2021

Passenger side rear door lock failed at 71000 miles. Could not open door from outside or inside.

Jun 14, 2021

Driver's side rear door will not open. Was working fine - then suddenly neither the inside nor outside handle will open door when unlocked. This is a concerning safety issue since I use this vehicle to transport my 2 grandchildren in car seats - and creates a hazardous situation in an emergency. Internet forums are full of reports of this same issue with this particular year/model of Tucson. Also - there is evidence that Hyundai Korea is aware of this problem - and has initiated steps to offer owners replacement of all door latches to remedy the issue. Here is a weblink to the Korean page that spells out some of the details: http://www.consumerwide.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=37459 FYI - I have owned and driven cars for almost 50 years - and have never had a vehicle where the vehicle doors just stopped functioning like this....

I had a problem with my driver door not opening when I originally purchased this vehicle 2 years ago. The dealer fixed it for me that time. It happened again to my rear driver side door. It starts off taking a few pulls to open the door, then after a couple weeks, the door stops unlatching all together, can’t open it from the inside or outside. Rear passenger door went a few months after that, so I have no access to the back seat. Drivers door just started having the problem again too. Was told the problem was the door lock actuator when I initially got it fixed. From what I can tell, a lot of people have this problem, it’s a know issue with the 2016 Tucson’s, and a safety issue at that. What if there are children or elderly people in the back seat and this was an issue during a car crash? I can’t pay to replace a bad part every few months only to have the problem happen again. Hyundai needs to offer a solution to this problem, not just replacing the same faulty part.

The drivers door and drivers Side back door doesn’t open from the inside or the outside. It opens after like 10 tries of yanking on it. This is a serious issue if I had to get out of there quickly or if I had someone in the back that couldn’t climb. I should have to climb out of my car. Recall this.

My passenger side door and back door not opening from outside. We have a kid in the seat so we have a child lock in the back. Because of that we couldn't able to open the door. When I called hyundai about that they said they will first evaluate for that I need to pay and then they charge me for the 2 doors. This is very absurd.

Jun 1, 2021

The diver side rear door will not open. Does not open from outside or the inside. If this happens to the other rear door a person could get trapped inside the car.

Jun 1, 2021

I have had three of the four doors unable to open at different time before repairing them. This is a safety issue putting my daughter trapped in the vehicle with the only way out to climb over the seats. If in an accident she would be unable to get out of the car quickly. I don't understand why this hasn't been addressed by NHTSA yet. Having a vehicle that could trap you in it is unsafe. One door was repaired when still under warranty, the next was repaired and paid for and now it's happened to another door that needs repairs and finally the drivers door appears it's going to have the same thing happen to it. Currently once the vehicle is unlocked you have to pull on the door handle twice before it opens. First pull still feels locked second pull opens it.

May 29, 2021

When unlocking the doors with key fob, all the doors besides the driver's side, will open. The drivers side won't open at first. Have to unlock and relock the car several times just to open the door on the drivers side. The same thing is happening when sitting inside the passenger seat on the left handside of the driver, the door won't open from inside out. The door has to be open by someone on the outside. This is been happening a lot to many people.
