Have had to replace all four window regulators. From searching online, it appears there are quite a few other people who have had the same issue. Raising this issue in case others have to to create a recall. Thank you

Sep 11, 2025

The back passenger door will not open from inside or outside. The front passenger door will not open from outside or inside. The warranty will not cover this as they are saying it it wear and tear. Hyundai has confirmed they know there is an issue with the doors but refuse a recall to fix this.

Feb 28, 2025

Window is stuck down. Window does not roll up. The Hyundai Tucson doors are notorious for having problems from not unlocking, opening, to the windows not working. These are all safety hazards. The doors not unlocking or opening are covered under an extended warranty but the window issues, which are equally as problematic, have not been addressed and the dealership is price gouging customers for the fix.

Feb 28, 2025

The door latch mechanisms are all faulty. I have read in many forums where this is a common issue with Hyundai models. The door latch on the back passenger door will not operate from inside or outside. The other three doors must be pulled on repeatedly in order to gain access. This creates a very dangerous situation of entrapment if there car were to catch fire or be in an accident. It’s almost impossible to get into the car from any door. The issue isn’t a locking issue either, doors will eventually open after repeated attempts.

Rear passenger door won’t open from inside or outside. Safety concern

Dec 14, 2024

All my doors stick and sometimes I have to fight with my car to even get a door open. Also, when trying to accelerate sometimes my throttle response is slow and i will not move for a few seconds.

Oct 10, 2024

In December 2023 I purchased my first car, a 2016 Hyundai Tucsan Limited Edition. The car had approx. 70k miles. After only 9 months, I noticed I was unable to gain access into the rear passenger side door. I quickly ruled out child locks, faulty fuses, and any other issues as directed in the owners manual. The window is still functional. As of today, 10/10/24 Ive had no luck being able to open the door. The mechanic stated it was an issue with the locking mechanism and quoted us for over $1400/$4000. He stated this is a common occurrence with this model. I find this issue with my newly purchased car, that I keep serviced and in perfect condition to be unacceptable. It is a major safety issue for me and my family. I am in school and work full time and I can not afford this type of repair. This type of issue should be recalled.

Jul 30, 2024

Have had to replace the regulator in all four windows. Seems to be a pretty common problem online. Reporting this so hopefully enough people say something that Hyundai has a recall and reimburses us for the repairs. Thanks

Jul 21, 2024

I have a 2016 Hyundai Tucson Limited. I have had both front windows Regulators break within the past year. I had the drivers side repaired but, was hoping there would be a recall before I spent $800 to repair the other one. But Hyundai should own up to this issue and have a recall, If they want return customers. Time to step up Hyundai

Jul 15, 2024

The driver's side back door will not open from the inside or outside. There was no warning or damage down to cause this, just one day it would not open. From research on the internet this is a common problem with a 2016 Tucson and is due from the lock actuator and is not being recalled. This is a huge safety risk if someone needed to exit the backseat quickly.

Jul 10, 2024

I own a 2016 Hyundai Tucson and have noticed that NONE of the doors other than the driver door will open either from the inside or outside. I have small children that I drive to and from school, activities. If we were to get into a wreck or were to run off rode into a body of water my children could drown or die due to doors not opening. This seems to be a very common issue with Hyundai and needs to be addressed and recalled and fixed by dealership immediately!

May 24, 2024

Both rear doors will not open from inside or outside. This began 3 years ago, with intermittent opening issues. For the last six months, neither rear door will open from inside, or outside. With the THOUSANDS of complaints I have seen online, one would THINK our GOVERNMENT would DO SOMETHING!!!

May 19, 2024

I have three doors on my Tucson affected. Back passenger door will not open at all from the inside or outside. The driver’s will open if I lock and unlock three or four times and pull the handle three or four times. The back drivers door is now doing the same thing as the drivers door. I have looked into the cost of having it repaired and Hyundai wants over $1500 per door to fix the issue. If I pay the close to $5000 to fix these doors, which I most definitely don’t have and don’t know anybody who does, I will have paid more than half the value of the car just to fix the doors. I’ve looked online and there are hundreds and thousands of people having the same problem - multiple years of Tucson models and other Hyundai models such as the ELANTRA. My car only has 62,000 miles on it. It has only had two owners. In the six years that I have owned the car I have only had people in the backseat three or four times. This is definitely not a wear problem. It is most definitely a safety issue. If I am in an accident and unconscious and the emergency workers can’t get the door open to get to me, it’s a safety issue. If I’m in an accident and can’t get the door open to escape the car, it is a safety issue. If I am going to my car late at night by myself and can’t get into the car it’s a safety issue. I am divorced and live alone, and drive across country occasionally. If I’m stopped at a rest stop or gas station and can’t get into my car this is a safety issue. If there are children in the backseat of the car and the door can’t be opened to get to the children this is a safety issue. The back passenger door stopped working entirely about 6 to 8 months ago - it can’t be opened from the inside or outside at all. The driver’s door started having issues about 3 to 4 months ago. The back drivers door just started having the issue three days ago. I do not understand why a safety recall has not yet been issued for this problem considering the huge number of affected cars out there.

Apr 6, 2024

The driver side door fails to open from the outside. I'm not sure if it is available for inspection, as I've tried to contact the Hyundai dealership I got it from, and they haven't gotten back to me. This is a safety issue because it causes me to have to walk around to the passenger side door and either climb over, or reach over and partially open the driver door then get back out and walk over to the other side again. I live in a big city and as a woman I don't always feel safe having to take extra time to get into my vehicle. It's also a safety issue because if something goes wrong, someone can't open the door to get to me. A dealer friend of a friend looked at the door and confirmed something is wrong with the latch cable, and also said that it would cost up to $1500 to repair. This is the only person who has inspected it so far. It looks like I'm not the only person who has had door issues with Tuscons which is why I'm here. There was no warning at all. I drove the vehicle to work with no incident and then when I left work I found I could not open the door anymore even after locking and unlocking a few times. This was back at the beginning of March 2024.

Apr 2, 2024

My car randomly will not reverse; it's happened a few times, I was alone or with my 5 year old the first time, and next couple of times I've had witnesses (husband and a friend) and this last time I was alone but I took a video. Sometimes my car feels like it has no power or like it's in the first gear struggling to make it past that (it's an automatic but that's the best way I can describe it). Three out of my four doors stick and I have to pull multiple times to get the door opened, even though it's unlocked. I find these issues, while not outright dangerous, can be a hassle especially when I'm in a parking lot trying to reverse into a spot or out of a spot. It's hard for my 8 year old to get in or out of the car cause her door sticks. I feel like when my car is driving sluggish, that I am going to get hit by another car.

Mar 17, 2024

This make an model has issues with the doors not opening, when they are unlocked and from time to time the windows will not open. These are both huge safety concerns. I have reported this to Hyundai and have a case number 2104500 which nothing has been done and I have heard nothing in over a year. This make and model need to be recalled for the door and window issues which are all over the internet when a search is done.

Mar 4, 2024

Door locks no longer work. Passenger side failed and now (3 months later) drivers side failed. This prevents entry and exit in case of emergency. Rear doors function appropriately. When locking and unlocking the doors, the front two make a mechanical sound. When unlocked, they do not open.

Dec 19, 2023

The drivers back door won't open from the inside or outside. The drivers door is sticking and starting to do the same thing. Very hazardous in case of fire, accident or attempted car jacking.

Nov 12, 2023

Back driver side door does not open at all and the passenger door only opens from the inside. If in an accident they may not be able to access me or my passengers in the vehicle. I am unaware of the cause of this issue and have not gotten it looked at by a professional.

Nov 12, 2023

1. My car will randomly not accelerate when the gas is being pressed. This has almost got me killed when making a left hand turn on more than 1 occasion now. The car also struggles with random shifting and power issues while going up steep hills at high speeds. 2. The front passenger side door and the rear drivers side passenger door just randomly stopped working with a week of each other. The rear wont open from the inside or outside. The front passenger side opens if you shake the handle back and forth multiple times (essentially trying to open it multiple times till it opens)

Oct 17, 2023

Three out of four window regulators failed in my vehicle over the span of 3 months. The windows could not go down nor stay up. This became a safety hazard as I was unable to retain cool air in my vehicle during the summer months and driving at higher speeds on the highway was difficult due to the outside air siphoning into the vehicle from a small window opening. It also would have prevented me from utilizing my two front windows during an emergency situation. The failure of three regulators was unusual as my vehicle has less than 50K miles, was bought brand new in 2016, and has never been involved in an accident. It appears the regulators are faulty/defective.

Oct 8, 2023

Body: my vehicle has experienced a malfunction in the front passenger side door. This door does not open from the outside, regardless of it being unlocked. The failure occurs 99% of attempts to open said door. A repair was made by the dealer I purchased it from, yet the issue returned within a month. First incident: February 2022. Electrical: My vehicle has also experienced malfunctions in all four windows. The initial malfunction occurred in July 2023, when the front driver side window would not go down. Within a week of having the window regulator and motor replaced professionally, the window regulator failed again (would not go back up after being let down)-- with an additional failure in the front passenger side window regulator. The part was replaced for the second time by a different independent service provider. This time, the failure occurred when I inspected the service providers work. The part was reordered and replaced yet again. However; the service provider made me aware that the issue had occured again, shortly after they repaired it and began testing it. The window was blocked off to keep it from sliding down. The issue is now present in all four windows. Each time it is repaired, the window regulator drum gears are stripped within 3-4 uses. - Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. - failure/malfunction was inspected and confirmed by two different independent service providers. - there were no warning lights or signals aside from the initial failure leading to a failure in all four windows.

Aug 21, 2023

The right driver side door does not open from the outside after the car has been locked then unlocked using the key fob. Removing the key manually from the fob does not get the door to open. The only way to open the door from the outside is to leave the vehicle unlocked or to open it from the inside after going through another door.

Aug 17, 2023

The passenger rear door won't open and hasn't done so an unknown period of time. 1. In July, 2023 I brought it to Shaker Hyundai in Watertown, CT when there was a recall to update the electrical system in this vehicle. I requested they try to fix the door after the recall was complete. When I left the dealership, the door opened. I stopped approximately five miles down the road on the way back home; I was unable to open it then and it hasn't opened since. The car hasn't been inspected by the police or the insurance company, but it has been inspected by the Watertown, CT dealership. Yes, it's available for inspection. No lights. No messages, other than oil change light. Others have registered this issue here, and I want to add my voice to theirs. Clearly your organization knows how VERY dangerous it is for passengers to lack egress from the car. If this happens randomly, is it possible the remaining three of my doors will latch permanently, and what then? Please do something! In the past, I owned a DIFFERENT car whose axle broke at an odd angle because of a defective part; the mandatory recall didn't take place for an additional two years. Please don't make me and others wait. Finally, I want my the dealership from whom I purchased to take a stab at fixing it properly and permanently. Unfortunately, Danbury won't look at it since Watertown tried/failed. HELP!

Aug 14, 2023

3 of the doors on this vehicle are hard to open from the outside. The cable that runs from the outside door handle to the door latch mechanism is stretched. You must yank hard on the outside door handle several times before the door latch will release opening the door. Replacing the inner door cable system for the door latch corrects this problem. This is a very well known problem on the internet with many youtube video's showing how to replace this cable system. If this vehicle is involved in a crash it may become difficult to get the occupants out in a timely manner.

Aug 7, 2023

1.6 Turbo engine failure while on freeway. Towed to mechanic, then informed needs new engine. This vehicle seized on the freeway

Aug 2, 2023

The passenger doors have an issue where the door CANNOT be opened from the inside (or outside). This seems to be a common problem with this car since it can be found very easily on the internet. I was traveling with visitors from overseas and sometimes I was unable to open the door from the outside for them. I was lucky that only one door was affected. I think this matter should be considered a very serious defect as persons needing to exit the vehicle in an emergency would be trapped. Please consider a recall for this issue since there are many Hyundai's with this problem. Thank you for your consideration. John Sommo, Jr.

FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY BROKE IN WHICH WINDOW WOULD NOT GO DOWN. REPAIRED ON 1/24/23 AT HYUNDAI OF ST AUGUSTINE FOR $737.27. THIS IS A SAFETY RISK DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO PUT WINDOW DOWN IN CASE OF EMERGENCY AND DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN.

Jul 13, 2023

FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP ON 7/05/23. I WENT TO DEALERSHIP TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND WHILE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS PULLING CAR OUT HE PUT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DOWN AND IT WOULD NOT ROLL UP. I HAD THIS WINDOW DOWN 2 HOURS PRIOR AND HAD NO ISSUES WITH IT GOING UP. HYUNDAI OF ORANGE PARK SAID MOTOR AND WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY STRIPPED DUE TO ASSEMBLY BEING CHEAP PLASTIC. COST TO REPLACE AND GET WINDOW BACK UP IS $1400.00. HAD TO HAVE DEALERSHIP PUT UP WINDOW AND SHORE IT UP DUE TO IT BEING COST PROHIBITIVE TO REPAIR. SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE WINDOW WILL NOT GO DOWN IN CASE OF EMERGENCY IF DOOR MECHANISM FAILS AND DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. ON 1/24/23, HYUNDAI ST AUGUSTINE REPLACED DRIVE SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY AT THE COST OF 737.27 DUE TO WINDOW NOT BEING ABLE TO GO DOWN. A SEPARATE COMPLAINT WAS FILED FOR THIS OCCURENCE.

Rear passenger door will not open from inside or outside

Jul 3, 2023

Rear driver door does not open from the outside or inside. The doors are unlocked but will not open at all.

Jun 27, 2023

Door latch suddenly stopped working, making it impossible to open the door from either inside or outside the vehicle. Had this occurred in an emergency situation passengers could have been trapped inside. Hyundai is aware of this defect and has issued a Technical Service Bulletin and purportedly extended the warranty but there is a shortage of parts to make repairs and so they cannot effectively honor that warranty or make needed repairs. NHTSA should require a recall on this problem to inform owners of this potential hazard and force Hyundai to put more resources into correcting the defective latches and possibly avoid unnecessary loss of life.

Jun 13, 2023

About a year ago, the driver's side door stopped opening. Since the vehicle was out of warrantee, I had it repaired but do not have the invoice any longer. I didn't expect it to happen to another door. A couple of months ago, the rear passenger door stopped opening. I have had it fixed. There was no warning, the doors just stopped opening, trapping whoever was inside at the time. Of course another door could be used, but that's assuming it didn't just stop working at the same time.

Jun 8, 2023

Passenger doors do not physically open when unlocked from outside and inside. Known stretched cable problems, with hundreds of complaints when doing a Google search. Elderly parents cannot yank hard enough to get them open by brute force. God forbid if there was an accident, you would not be able to open to door from inside to get out and others from outside would not be able to open either to assist. Rolling death trap. Hyundai Korea knows about the door cable problem and fixes it for free. USA wants you to pay $400 per door to fix. Shame on you Hyundai USA!!!

Jun 7, 2023

Rear passenger door would not open after door is locked from inside the vehicle or outside the vehicle. Was stuck in the vehicle. Had to crawl out via other side door. Due to my size this would be a great hazard in an emergency exit situation. Have not take it to the dealer police or insurance but internet search leads to a faulty actuator. No warnings.

May 23, 2023

In the last 2 years, 3 of our 4 doors locks have failed to open the door from inside and outside. The dealer has made me bring it in to prove its broken. This is a saftey issue, now my driver's door is not working from outside and they want me to bring it it BEFORE ordering and waiting on parts. I am 70 years old and cannot climb over seats to get out. Someone is going to get trapped, and I hope it's not me. This should be a recall as they know they are failing but are waiting till it does to fix it. Any help in this would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

May 17, 2023

Driver's side door will not open from outside even when vehicle is unlocked. It will not open with the key in the door either. I had no warning that this was going to occur, I left work at 9pm and my door would not open. Thankfully, my other 3 doors are still in working order but what happens if those fail as well? My car has 104k miles but I have only had it for 5 years and this is a part that should not fail in that time span. I have not yet taken the car to the dealer for this issue as I know the car is out of warranty and I will have to cover the cost of repair, but I believe it should be a recall with the amount of people who have posted online about having the same issue on their Hyundai Tucsons.

May 3, 2023

-Driver side and passenger side back doors do not open from the inside or outside. They just stopped opening one day, months apart. Nothing hit them or could have caused a jam. It is available for inspection upon request. -The doors don’t open, and I could not get my dog or child from out of the backseat. -This is a recurring problem based on what I have read online. The issue has been confirmed by a mechanic. -The doors were inspected by Caliber Collision and I got a quote from them. -There were no lights or warnings to inform me this was going to happen and still none now that it has happened. -

Apr 2, 2023

The passenger read doors lock up and become unoperable. So the doors cannot be opened from the outside or the inside. This creates a massive potentially tragic situation. If your children or a senior is in the back seat and a fire or an accident occurs they will not be able to leave the car from the rear doors. Let me make this very clear. The doors jam up and will NOT open from the inside or outside no matter what the lock position is in. Also, I see evidence online of this happening to a number of people. Hyundai did not issue a recall, but the indicated that they would fix it under "extended" warranty but when i brought it in (the door was frozen shut) they said this was something else and proceeded to charge me about $500 for the repair; $250 for the part and the same for the labor. This is a common problem and because of the seriousness involving injury and potential death this should have been recalled. How frightening is it to be locked in your car after an accident or fire?

Mar 31, 2023

THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN REGARDLESS OF THE LOCK/UNLOCK FUNCTION. IT IS THE MAIN DOOR THAT MY CHILDREN USE TO GET IN/OUT OF THE CAR FOR SCHOOL, ETC. I REPORTED THIS TO HYUNDAI AND THEY JUST SAID THEY THINK IT IS A LATCH DEFECT. NO ATTEMPT TO REPAIR.

Mar 26, 2023

When doors are unlocked, driver door outside handle will not open the door. It can be opened from the inside. No safety concern currently. Problem was reproducible by dealer technician and he stated he has a similar issue and showed me to hit below the handle with my fist. This is not a fix! When we took our Tucson for a warranty issue regarding the engine, we notified the technician of the problem and they failed to address the issue. This issue happened out of number-to-bumper warranty. I have read many forum articles by many owners that Hyundai will charge between &100 and $200 to diagnose the problem before fixing them charge for the component and labor to fix the issue. No warnings have appeared regarding the problem.

Mar 6, 2023

Passenger rear doors fail to un-lock completely , so unable to open using outside handles and inside handles. Passenger rear door completely unusable , drivers side rear door works 50% of the time after several pulls on door handles. Will not fully unlock with any switches or key fob. Safety risk in case of accident with children in the back seats.

Jan 17, 2023

Engine failure while going 70mph on the highway - huge safety issue! Spark plugs totally covered in oil and the engine has major known oil consumption issues. Also 3 of our 4 door actuators broke - huge safety issues as we have kids in our back seats in car seats. This form doesn't have enough room for the letter I have composed about the specifics of the situations. Hyundai has known issues with their engines and some are under recall. We were told ours is not under recall and they will not fix it or help at all to fix it even though many of their engines have/had the same issues as ours and those engines are under recall.

Oct 24, 2022

Driver-side rear door fails to open from the inside or the outside. Currently, the passenger seated on that side of the vehicle has to enter and exit the vehicle using the door on the opposite side, which can easily be a safety issue. Thankfully, we have not been in an emergency incident or car accident where someone has had to use that door to get out of the car in a hurry. The failure to unlock the door and open seems to stem from an actuator mechanism that is faulty. (The same issue/complaint has been mentioned by other owners, including failure of more than one door latch, e.g. https://www.hyundai-forums.com/threads/help-16-tucson-limited-intermittent-door-unlock-fob-issue.690557/#post-6162832; https://www.carproblemzoo.com/hyundai/tucson/door-latch-problems.php, ) I contacted the local Hyundai dealer about this issue and was only able to get an appointment two months out (which will be tomorrow)! I will have more details regarding the repair associated with this issue after my appointment. But it seems like this should be a safety related recall given the potential danger of being trapped in a vehicle in the event of an emergency or an accident.

Oct 21, 2022

On Oct. 14, 2022 I had to take my car in to repair/replace front passenger side window regulator. The window no longer would go up and down. $807.51. Yesterday, Oct. 20 my driver's side front window failed. Another $807 repair. I am a senior citizen (woman) on a fixed income also experiencing recent Ian hurricane damage and repairs. Am I to expect the rest of the windows to fail? Do I have some recourse with Hyundai?

Jun 26, 2022

REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK/OPEN. CANNOT BE UNLOCKED BY ANY SWITCH. FROM INFO I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND THIS COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAVE NOT BEEN TO THE DEALER OR CONTACTED THE MANUFACTUER. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ALARMS HAVE BEEN ACTIVATED BY THE VEHICLE.O6/

May 26, 2022

Rear right door stopped opening from inside and outside just over a month ago. Two weeks ago front passenger door started to not be able to be opened. To not be able to safely exit a vehicle is a tremendous safety concern....in an accident , in another emergency situation, if vehicle caught fire, etc. Which door will not be operable next? How can my elderly, disabled family member safely ride in this vehicle and get safely out? Will I need to drive to a fire department to get doors cut open? (this actually is my go-to safety plan at this point) We took to our Auto repair, they also could not open these doors. There are no dash warnings of doors being compromised. The vehicle was not in any accident incident. Internet searching reveals this to be a widespread problem with the Hyundai vehicles

Apr 19, 2022

Passenger rear door will not open from inside or outside. no damage or accident has occurred. door just quit opening.

Mar 29, 2022

Rear passenger door will not open from inside or outside when clearly unlocked. Safety concern if must exit vehicle quickly in case of emergency.

Feb 11, 2022

The drivers side door almost never opens on the first try, I usually have to pull the handle twice. Recently the passenger side back door will not open from the inside or outside, despite being unlocked. This is a huge safety concern if I were in an accident and could not open this door. I have seen DOZENS of other reports of people having this same issue and a recall should be issued immediately to fix this potential life threatening and dangerous issue.

Feb 10, 2022

I've had this used hyundai for 6 months, had to replace drivers door panel ( windows not going up and down) Stopped working. Now drivers back door window will not go up or down. Right side back door will not open anymore. On utube people by the 18k are complaining about these same issues. What next? It's like the body is falling apart.

Jan 1, 2022

The passenger front door Will not open from the outside once locked. It must be open from inside the car. This would be a safety concern if there was an accident and people were trying to get into the passenger side car. It seems from research that this is a known issue from Hyundai

Dec 13, 2021

Passenger side door failing to unlock fully, not openable from the outside under many circumstances. This seems to be a common problem with the 2016 Hyundai Tucson. Hyundai needs to issue a recall for this safety issue.

Dec 1, 2021

First the passenger side rear door would not unlock or open; was repaired for a very high amount and I was told it wasn't covered; now the same thing with the driver's side rear door; online forums show this as a very common problem with Hyundai Tucson 2016. This is a safety issue - door cannot be used to exit the vehicle from the inside or outside at the malfunctioning (non-functioning) door.

Nov 30, 2021

My third door has stopped opening from the outside. This is a known issue to Hyundai about these cars and it is a safety issue.

Nov 23, 2021

Neither of the backdoors of the car will open from the inside or the outside. The first failure was the driver side backdoor which will not open even with force. Several months later the passenger side rear door is experiencing the same issue. I spoke with the local Hyundai dealership who confirmed that it is a well known issue, but they have been less than helpful with getting it repaired. They take my contact info and say someone will call me but they never do, when I call or go to the dealership in person the one guy who can help get the repair underway is never available, and they will not give me his direct contact info. This is a serious safety risk because there is no way to get to my children from either of the backdoors if there was an emergency, they have to be accessed and pulled over the center console to be removed from the car at all. Given the incredibly persistent issues with these latches failing in the Tucson, there is also no way to know when any of the other latches may fail and make it impossible to quickly escape the car.

Nov 15, 2021

Latch failure of all 4 doors, passenger side door in 2018, passenger rear door 2018 and again now (2021), driver door 2019, driver rear door 2019. The door latch fails and at first won’t open from the inside. After a few days or weeks, door will not open from outside or inside. This costs over $450 (labor not included) and is a HUGE safety concern! This should not happen in a 5 year old car, especially to ALL 4 DOORS, and one of the doors twice!

Oct 20, 2021

Rear passenger door when unlocked will not open. I can open the door when unlocked by banging on door just below the outside door handle.

Oct 18, 2021

Rear door does not open. Can't be opened from the inside or outside. Apparently, similar problems from this model from other owners. Affects all doors.

Oct 8, 2021

Our rear driver side door does not open from both inside and outside. I have seen that this is an extremely common issue with other Hyundai owners. I have three small children. This is extremely dangerous if there was ever an emergency situation, to have small children trapped back seats, unable to open the doors. I have read that other doors eventually fail too, which just compounds the extreme danger that this poses if an emergency comes up and one has to evacuate the vehicle. The issue seems to always be the door latch and cable not catching, so there is a consistency in what other people are experiencing. Please consider this an extreme safety issue and issue a recall.

Sep 28, 2021

The rear driver's side door of my door suddenly stopped working. When I was trying to get my baby out of the car, neither my husband nor myself could get to her. We couldn't open her door with the exterior door handle (even after multiple attempts to unlock the car) or the interior door handle. If we find ourselves in an emergency situation, we would not be able to safely and efficiently evacuate our child and other passengers. While it has not been inspected, it is available for inspection upon request. There were and still are no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. Additionally, this seems like a common issue for the Hyundai Tucson as there are many people online talking about this very same issue, with some people unable to open either of their doors.

Sep 27, 2021

Rear passenger door will not open from inside or outside despite being unlocked. Previously it could be opened after pulling handle several times, now it will not open at all despite being unlocked. I have small children in the back seat in car seats and would not be able to get them out through that door in an emergency. The front driver's door also requires pulling the handle several times in order to open it.

Sep 15, 2021

Both front doors no longer open from outside. Started off as intermittent and has gotten progressively worse sometimes I cant get them to open from inside either. This is a huge safety problem.

Sep 15, 2021

The lock actuator on the driver's side door failed. The door cannot be opened, even when the car is unlocked. This creates a hazard if one is required to exit the vehicle in an emergency. There have been numerous owners reporting the same issue on different door in the 2016 Tucson.

Sep 9, 2021

Both back doors fail to open from the inside or outside and the front doors are starting to fail as well.

Aug 31, 2021

The latch mechanism in all doors is malfunctioning. The rear doors do not open at all and the front drivers side door only opens sometimes. This is a known defect in the design of the Hyundai Tuscon door latch mechanism. This is a safety issue because the doors are inoperable, possibly trapping a person in a vehicle.

Issue: The rear passenger door will not open from inside and outside. We had set the Child-Lock to enabled, so diagnosing/troubleshooting from the inside is not possible. Frequent and consecutive pulls on the exterior door handle do not provide any opening results. Listening to the door panel when using the key fob or door lock toggle, it appears to be disengaging and engaging the lock; or at least it sounds the same as the other doors when locking/unlocking. We have two children we transport that are still in car seats. -- Situation or events that could have caused this issue: None. Was working the morning before. The vehicle has not had any minor impacts to any part of the body (no accidents or bumps, etc). -- Risk of Safety/Death in an Emergency: We believe this to be a safety issue in the event of an emergency (flooding, door collapsed on its side, etc.) -- Inspection: Pending via Dealership -- Warning Lamps: None

Brakes feel like ABS is always on. Feel unsafe to drive. Was told by Hyundai dealer that I need a new Steering Column and no explanation on how something like this can just break. Less than 60K miles when this issue started with brakes. I'm the first and only owner of this vehicle. The other safety issue is the doors not opening. 3 out of 4 doors have problems opening from inside and outside. This forum explains exactly what is happening to my doors. https://www.hyundai-forums.com/threads/rear-passenger-door-wont-open.603329/

The left passenger door wont open from inside and outside. I have a child that is still in a car seat and this is a huge safety issue. I have to make sure he sits on the right side so I can open the door if there became an emergency.

Jun 30, 2021

The back doors will not open from the inside or the outside. I have seem multiple people complain about this and yet still not recall issued. This is a HUGE safety problem. I can't use half of my car because if I somehow get passengers back there and we get in an accident.. they are stuck. If my dog rides back there and we get in an accident and God forbid he can't jump to the front, he is stuck. This needs to be recalled ASAP. There is no reason for these door handles to just stop working. My front door handle also has to be pulled twice for me to be able to open it.

Jun 29, 2021

In my 2016 Tucson, the issue started with the front passenger door not opening even though you can hear the car unlocking when clicking the key fob. This issue has now started on the drivers side door, with both the key fob not opening the door as well as manually trying to open the door with the key. This is a serious safely issue and should not be happening. This issue runs the risk of someone being stuck in the car, with no way of getting to them. There was no pre warning of the issue starting. It just happened one day and from that point forward has been progressing to each door. Getting in and out of the car in the event of an accident or emergency poses an issue if the doors do not open. This is made worse by not being able to manually open the door with a key.

Jun 29, 2021

Several doors are unable to be opened from both the inside and outside. This is very concerning to me, as in the event of an emergency passengers (including children in car seats) will be able to evacuate the car. After some research it appears many people have this issue with different models of Hyundai vehicles from that time period and yet no recall has been put out. I have never been in an accident in this vehicle and the doors are not dented or otherwise damaged. This problem started slowly, with the door handle not opening on the first try but opening after a few pulls. Over time it got the point where it will not open at all, inside or outside. And over time this has happened with all 4 doors. The two rear doors will not open at all. The front two doors are finicky and take several tries before opening.

May 26, 2021

My rear passenger side door does not open from the inside of the car and also from the outside of the car when unlocked. This is a huge safety concern as anyone sitting in the back seat would be trapped inside the car in an emergency especially if my grandson were strapped in his car seat in the back and I had to get him out of the car as quickly as possible in an emergency. I called the dealership where I bought the car and they acted surprised even though this is clearly a known issue as I discovered while researching this problem on various blogs. I haven't taken my car to the dealership yet, I'm trying to determine if this will be covered under my 5 years/60,000 mile warranty as my car is right on the edge with my car having 55,000 miles and being 5 years and 2 months old. This problem happened very suddenly and we had no warning at all. The door worked when we left home for a trip and when we reached our first stop 60 miles later, the door would not open from inside or outside.

May 22, 2021

PASSENGER SIDE DOORS, FRONT & REAR, FAIL TO UNLOCK OR OPEN WITH THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK SWITCH ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR OR FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. USING THE LOCK/UNLOCK ON THE KEY FOB DOES NOT WORK, EITHER. ADDITIONALLY, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE.

May 18, 2021

The passenger side front and rear doors can no longer be opened either from the inside or outside even when th vehicle is unlocked. The mechanism that activates the latches seems to be working as it can be heard on both doors, but the latches themselves seem to fail frequently. This results in a safety hazard since exiting the vehicle in case of an accident where the the only side that's not blocked is the right one becomes impossible except by crawling through the door windows which may not fit the occupant(s).

BOTH REAR DOORS WILL NOT OPEN NEITHER FROM THE OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE, THE DOOR ACTUATORS FAILED 3 MONTHS APART. I'M VERY CONCERN CHILDERN ARE INVOLVED, AND I AM NOT SAFETY CONFIDENT WITH THE OTHER TWO FRONT DOORS! THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY MATTER - HYUNDAI HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE ISSUE EXCEPT REPLACE THE ACTUATORS WITH THE SAME STYLE FAULTY ACTUATORS THAT WILL FAIL AGAIN - THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR SAFETY OF MY FAMILY

May 13, 2021

DOORS WON'T OPEN. DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS FAULTY. CURRENT REPLACEMENT DOES NOT FIX... AND PROBLEM REPEATS. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO FIX AND RECALL. THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM FOR THIS CAR AND A CRAZY SAFETY ISSUE!

THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR SUDDENLY WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THE CHILD LOCK WAS DISENGAGED, AND NO AMOUNT OF LOCKING/UNLOCKING WOULD FIX IT. WE WERE IN THE CAR AND IT WORKED NORMALLY, THEN WHEN WE ARRIVED TO OUR DESTINATION COULD NOT GET MY KIDS OUT. THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE DOOR HANDLE FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. IT HAPPENED OUT OF NOWHERE. THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS, AS NOT ONLY COULD I BIT GET MY KIDS OUT QUICKLY IN AN EMERGENCY, I ALSO CAN'T LET THEM OUT CURBSIDE, AND AM FORCED TO PULL THEM OUT OF THE BACK SEAT WITH CARS FLYING BY. I HAVE MAJOR CONCERNS WITH ALL OF THE REMAINING DOORS FAILING, AND IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A CHRONIC WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI VEHICLES, AND TUCSONS IN PARTICULAR. I'M FEARFUL THAT THE DOORS WILL JUST SEIZE UP AND WE WON'T BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR.

REAR VEHICLE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN EITHER FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE, PROGRESSIVE IN NATURE OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL MONTHS. AT THE TIME OF REPAIR, THE DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN. MY ELDERLY MOTHER WITH LIMITED MOBILITY WAS STUCK IN THE BACK OF THE CAR FOR OVER AN HOUR UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR DOOR OPEN. IF MY MOTHER WAS IN AN EMERGENT MEDICAL SITUATION, I DON'T KNOW HOW WE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN HER OUT. I CAN'T IMAGINE IF A MOTHER WITH YOUNG CHILDREN AND CAR SEATS WOULD MANAGE IN A SAFETY SITUATION. THIS COULD BE A SITUATION BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WAS ONLY MINIMALLY SUPPORTIVE OF THIS. IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO PAY $898.23 TO BE ABLE TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOORS ON A CAR THAT IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY SITUATION THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN ACROSS MANY CAR WEBSITES. WE HAVE BEEN A LONGTIME HYUNDAI CUSTOMER, AND FIND THE LACK OF RECALL FOR SUCH A GLARING SAFETY SITUATION UNACCEPTABLE. AT SOME POINT, SOMEONE WILL LOSE THEIR LIFE BECAUSE OF THIS. I STRONGLY URGE THAT THIS MATTER BE LOOKED INTO IN DEPTH, AND THAT THIS WOULD RESULT IN A SAFETY RECALL. I HAVE THE DOCUMENTS FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPAIR TO THE DOORS THAT SPECIFICALLY STATE THEIR CONCERNS FOR THIS BEING A SAFETY ISSUE. BEING ABLE TO GET INTO AND OUT OF A CAR SAFELY IS NOT A LUXURY, IT IS A NECESSITY. TO PAY NEARLY 1,000 DOLLARS TO DO SO IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, AND A PROBLEM TRUST WITH HYUNDAI PRODUCTS. I STRONGLY URGE YOUR ORGANIZATION TO LOOK INTO THE HUGE AND GROWING NUMBER OF HYUNDAI TUSCON SUVS THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND TO INITIATE A SAFETY RECALL.

RECENTLY MY REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HAS COMPLETLY FAILED TO OPEN (INSIDE AND OUTSIDE) LEAVING ME WITH ONE DOOR TO ACCESS MY CHILD IN THE BACKSEAT. I HAVE TO PULL MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE MULTIPLE TIMES IN ORDER FOR IT TO "CATCH" AND OPEN. I TOOK THE CAR TO LITHIA HYUNDAI OF FRESNO AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT I NEED TO REPAIR BOTH ACTUATORS AND IT IS NOT CONSIDERED A "SAFETY ISSUE" MORE OF A "WEAR AND TEAR" ISSUE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE KIDS AND NEED TO GET OUT IN AN EMERGENCY.

OUR CAR FRONT DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK FROM THE OUTSIDE WITH THE REMOTE FOB OR THE DOOR HANDLE. THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE DOOR IS TO USE THE HANDLE ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR. THIS HAPPENS CONTINUALLY NOW & STARTED HAPPENING ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO FOR NO IDENTIFIABLE REASON. WHEN APPROACHING THE CAR TO GO FOR A DRIVE, WE HAVE TO OPEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR FIRST & REACH ACROSS TO THE DRIVER SIDE & UNLOCK FROM THE INTERIOR. NO OTHER WAY TO DO IT. WE SEARCHED ONLINE AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI SUVS, WITH OTHER INSTANCES OF DOORS NOT EVEN BEING ABLE TO BE OPENED FROM THE INTERIOR EITHER. IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A MALFUNCTIONING DOOR "ACTUATOR". SOME CASES HAVE HAD TO COMPLETELY DESTROY THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE MECHANISMS OF THE DOOR TO REPLACE THE ACTUATOR. SINCE IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, AND A SAFETY ISSUE IF PEOPLE CANNOT OPEN DOORS FROM INSIDE OR OUT, THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. REALLY THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU CANNOT OPEN YOUR DOOR TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. PLEASE EVALUATE THIS ASAP & HAVE HYUNDAI ISSUE A RECALL.

WHEN TRYING TO GET INTO MY CAR, I UNLOCK MY DOORS. WITH ALL DOORS UNLOCKED I TRY TO ENTER THE DRIVER DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. IT TAKES MULTIPLE POOLS ON THE HANDLE FOR THE DRIVE DOOR TO GET THE LATCH INSIDE THE DOOR TO RELEASE AND OPEN THE DOOR. MY DOOR BECOMES STUCK AND I AM UNABLE TO GET INSIDE MY VEHICLE. THIS CAN BE A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE, IN DARK PARKING LOTS, UNSAFE LOCATIONS, PREVENTING ME FROM GETTING IN MY VEHICLE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI DEALER. THEY STATES NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY DOOR AND IT WORKS FINE. THIS WAS APPROX APR IN 2020. BEGINNING THIS WEEK MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR WILL NOW ALSO NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE, EVEN IF MY DOOR IS UNLOCKED. APPARENTLY, HYUNDAI IS NOT WILLING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT, WHICH I HAVE FOUND IS A PROBLEM ACROSS MANY HYUNDAI YEARS AND MODELS. THREE OF THE FOUR DOORS HAVE DEFECTS WHICH PREVENT THEM FROM OPENING FROM THE OUTSIDE OR INSIDE, WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. THE DOOR LOCK ACUATOR IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR WAS REPLACED IN 2018. ONE OF THE BACK DOORS WAS REPLACED IN 2020, AND NOW THE OTHER BACK DOOR WON'T OPEN DUE TO THE SAME ISSUE. I OFTEN TRANSPORT CHILDREN AND AN ELDERLY GRANDPARENT, ALL OF WHOM SIT IN THE BACK SEAT. IF I HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO GET THEM OUT OF THE VEHICLE. ON TOP OF THE FACT THAT THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE, I'M NOW CONCERNED THE DRIVER'S DOOR WILL STOP WORKING SOON, MEANING I CAN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT ALL. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SUPPORT SINCE THE VEHICLE IS 1,000 MILES OVER WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO (CONVERSATION 4/5/21). FIVE STAR HYUNDAI OF MACON REFUSED TO PUT IN A REQUEST TO OVER-RIDE THE WARRANTY TO GET IT FIXED, SINCE CLEARLY IT IS A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HASN'T BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS ISSUE AND HYUNDAI IS APPARENTLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AS IT FREQUENTLY OCCURS WITH TUCSONS AND ELANTRAS (PER CONVERSATION WITH FIVE STAR HYUNDAI), YET REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS NOW AT 61,000 MILES THEY ARE SAYING IT IS NO LONGER THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AND ARE NOT OFFERING TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY. THE BLIND SPOT DETECTOR IS ALSO MALFUNCTIONING, NOT NOTIFYING WHEN A VEHICLE IS NEXT TO MINE AND OCCASIONALLY GOING OFF WHEN THERE IS NO VEHICLE AT ALL. FIVE STAR MACON SAID THIS IS ALSO NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE AND SAID THEY DON'T KNOW WHY IT WOULD BE A PROBLEM BUT WOULD REQUIRE THEM REMOVING MY BUMPER AND DOING EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC WORK BEFORE THEY'D KNOW HOW TO FIX IT.

I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM OPENING UP MY DRIVER SIDE BACK DOOR SENSE SUMMER OF 2020 SO I'VE TAKEN THE BACK DOOR PANEL OFF AND I PULL ON THE WIRE FROM THE INSIDE TO OPEN IT UP. I'VE DEALT WITH THAT JUST FINE IT'S IRRITATING BUT NOW MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT IS NOT WANTING TO OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE DO I HAVE TO READ ACROSS AND OPEN UP THE DOOR IF ANYBODY IS GOING TO BE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. NOW THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HAS STARTED DOING IT. SO NOW I'M EXPECTED TO CLIMB IN TRUE THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR AND UP INTO THE FRONT SEAT OR OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE AND THEN WALK BACK AROUND MY CAR. THAT IS UNTIL THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR DECIDES TO START DOING THE SAME THING AND THEN I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO CLIMB IN THROUGH THE TRUNK? OR MAYBE THAT'LL BE THE NEXT ONE TO GO? ANOTHER ISSUE THAT HAVE BEEN HAVING A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH IS THE FRONT INTERIOR DOME OR THE CONSOLE THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT DOESN'T LIKE TO COME ON MOST OF THE TIME, BUT OCCASIONALLY IT DOES. THE BIGGEST ISSUE IS THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS. SO THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN NEEDING TO BE REPLACED MORE OFTEN THAN I EVER HEARD OF ANYBODY REPLACING THEM, LESS THAN 6 MONTH SOMETIMES. OTHER TIMES THAT HAD LIKE JUST GOES OUT AND THEN I HAVE TO GET UNDER THE HOOD AND HOPEFULLY GET THE CAP OFF SO THAT I CAN PLAY WITH THE FITTING AND HOPE THAT IT WILL COME BACK ON. BECAUSE I ACTUALLY DO MOST OF MY DRIVING IN THE DARK WHEN IT'S NIGHT TIME SO I KIND OF NEED MY LIGHTS. SOMETIMES THAT DOESN'T WORK BUT THE NEXT MORNING I WILL TURN ON THE VEHICLE THE LIGHT IS WORKING AGAIN?... I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH THAT ISSUE FOR ABOUT A YEAR AS WELL. JUST RECENTLY WITHIN THE LAST FEW MONTHS BEE TAIL LIGHT OR BRAKE LIGHT HAS STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. SPECIFICALLY THE PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT SO FAR. MY BACK PASSENGER DOOR WON'T OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE. YOU CAN HEAR THE POWER LOCK WORKING, BUT THE DOOR WON'T OPEN. THE PROBLEM STARTED OUT GRADUALLY WHERE THE DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN UNLESS YOU PULLED THE HANDLE MORE THAN ONCE AND NOW IT WON'T OPEN AT ALL. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS FOR PEOPLE IN THE BACK SEAT BECAUSE THEY CAN'T GET OUT IN AN EMERGENCY THROUGH THAT DOOR.

2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THIS HAPPENED JANUARY 2021. I WAS WAITING FOR THE ENTIRE FIRE RECALL TO COME UP WITH A FIX SO I COULD TAKE IT IN AT THE SAME TIME. NOW, THE FRONT DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE, ONLY THE INSIDE. HYUNDAI IS SAYING IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I WILL NEED TO PAY FOR BOTH. QUICK RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS ME THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ALSO EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE EVALUATED AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF MY CAR CATCHES FIRE BEFORE THERE CAN BE A FIX FOR THE RECALL AND MYSELF OR MY PASSENGERS ARE UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IF IT IS ON FIRE.

THE DOORS ON THIS CAR KEEP FAILING TO OPEN. ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO I HAD TO REPLACE THE LOCKING MECHANISM ON THE DRIVER FRONT DOOR. THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. THEN ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO I HAD TO REPLACE THE DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM ON THE DRIVER REAR DOOR. NOW I NEED TO REPLACE THE MECHANISM ON THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN IF WE ARE UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

MY DOORS HAVE STOPPED OPENING FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED WITH MY REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR (LAST YEAR- HAS NOT OPENED SINCE) AND NOW HAS HAPPENED WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR (STARTED LAST SUMMER 2020). CHILD LOCK IS NOT ON, NO OBSTRUCTION, HAVE TRIED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING SEVERAL TIMES. THE CAR IS STATIONARY, IN PARK. AT FIRST IF I USE A LITTLE FORCE AND PUSH THE DOOR IT SOMETIMES WILL LET IT OPEN, BUT EVENTUALLY THIS STOPS WORKING AND THE DOOR IS TOTALLY SEALED SHUT. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE FOR MANY HYUNDAI OWNERS AND THERE IS NO REAL FIX. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE- IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT OR MY PASSENGERS NEED TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE QUICKLY, THEY ARE QUITE LITERALLY TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. I'M WORRIED IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS OCCURS WITH MY DRIVER DOOR AS WELL. THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL AND IS ABSOLUTELY NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.

Jan 17, 2021

THE INCIDENT OCCURRED TO ME WHILE I WAS 7 HOURS FROM HOME. I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN ON A CURVE IN THE ROAD. WHEN CLEAR, I ACCELERATED AND AS I TURNED AND MERGED INTO THE ROAD, THE CAR STARTED MAKING A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE AND LOST POWER AS I WAS GOING UP HILL. RIGHT BEFORE I LOST ALL POWER, THE OIL LIGHT FLASHED BRIEFLY AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND AGAIN HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AS SOON AS I SLOWED AND STOPPED IT DIED AGAIN. I ENDED UP GETTING TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED AND THEY LET ME KNOW I HAD "THROWN A ROD AND HAD BEARING DAMAGE". THEY SAID I NEED A NEW ENGINE AND QUOTED ME $12,800. I HAVE PROVIDED ALL SERVICE RECORDS TO THEM WHICH PROVE THAT I HAVE MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE WITH OIL CHANGES AND MAJOR SERVICES DONE AT HYUNDAI AS WELL AS VALVOLINE. THEIR INITIAL OFFER TO ME WAS THEY WOULD COVER 50% OF THE REPAIR. MY SERVICE ADVISOR COUNTERED THEM WITH 90% AND THEIR FINAL OFFER WAS TO COVER 60% AND NO RENTAL - EVEN BEING 7 HOURS FROM HOME. BEFORE THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPEN MY REAR PASSENGER DOOR IN MONTHS DUE TO NEEDING A NEW ACTUATOR. I ALSO LET THEM KNOW THAT I BELIEVED THERE WAS ELECTRICAL ISSUES BECAUSE MY TAIL LIGHT WAS ALWAYS GOING OUT EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED. I WAS DISMISSED AND TOLD THAT I HAD A FAULTY BULB. SAME DAY AFTER GETTING REPLACED, I WAS AGAIN GETTING THAT "CHECK BRAKE LIGHT" MESSAGE. I BELIEVE THERE IS A RECALL THAT I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR FOR THIS ISSUE. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND ENGINE FAILURE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI WITH MANY PEOPLE ON THEIR 2ND AND 3RD ENGINES, INCLUDING 2 PEOPLE IN MY OWN FAMILY. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE WAY HYUNDAI IS HANDLING THIS SITUATION AND I WILL NO LONGER BE A HYUNDAI CUSTOMER. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I CAN PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. THANK YOU!

THE REAR BACK DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE, CREATING A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE CHILDREN/PEOPLE SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT. HYUNDAI REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS IISSUE AND WANTS TO CHARGE OVER $1,000 WITH LABOR TO FIX IT. I PURCHASED THE CAR CERTIFIED PREOWNED IN 2018.

IN MY 2016 HYUNDAI TUSCON THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. IT LOCKS AND UNLOCKS VIA KEYLESS ENTRY, INDOOR LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON AND KEY FOB UNLOCK/LOCK BUTTON, HOWEVER THE DOOR DOES NOT PHYSICALLY OPEN. IT SPONTANEOUS OCCURRED WHEN TRYING TO GET INTO MY CAR. THIS IS A HUGE SAFELY CONCERN IF SOMEONE NEEDED TO LEAVE MY CAR IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. UPON RESEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF 2016 MODELS, SOME HAVING ISSUES WITH MULTIPLE DOORS. IT APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE LOCK ACTUATOR THAT WAS INSTALLED IS MOST OF THE 2016-2017 TUSCONS. HYUNDAI IS NOT WILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON ALL OF THESE MODELS.

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2016 TUCSON FROM THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER TWO YEARS THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR HANDLES DIDN'T WORK PROPERLY. I HAVE TO PULL THE HANDLES 4-5 TIMES BEFORE THE DOOR WILL OPEN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS GIVEN AN ASTRONOMICAL PRICE TO FIX IT. I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHO DRIVES MY CAR. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON WHY THESE HANDLES ARE MALFUNCTIONING LIKE THIS. THEN LAST MONTH THE BACK DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! THIS IS DANGEROUS. IF I HAD SOMEONE IN THE BACK SEAT AND AN EMERGENCY HAPPENS THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT. I CAN'T BE THE ONLY CUSTOMER HAVING THIS ISSUE. IS THERE SOMETHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT THIS? THIS CAR WAS PAID IN FULL. I'VE ALREADY PAID ENOUGH FOR THIS CAR. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR MALFUNCTIONING DANGEROUS DOOR HANDLES. WHAT CAN I DO?

WHILE A PASSENGER WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXIT FROM THE DRIVER SIDE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, THE LATCH WAS NON-OPERATIONAL AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO EXIT USING THE INTERNAL LATCH. CHILD SAFETY MECHANISM WAS NOT ENGAGED. THE EXTERIOR LATCH ALSO DIDN'T FUNCTION. THE LOCKING MECHANISM IS IN THE UNLOCKED POSITION. THIS MADE EXITING FROM OR RETRIEVING A CHILD ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE DURING ANY EMERGENCY SITUATION. THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL, FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THIS HAPPENED OUTSIDE OF THE 60,000 MILE WARRANTY PERIOD, SO HYUNDAI REFUSED TO VOLUNTARILY FIX THE ISSUE. THE LATCHING MECHANISM SHOULD NOT BE WORN DOWN SO QUICKLY, WITHIN 4 YEARS OF MANUFACTURE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN, AS POTENTIALLY ALL CAR DOORS COULD FAIL, LEAVING PASSENGERS STUCK INSIDE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR ON 3 OF 4 DOORS HAS FAILED. THIS MEANS THAT THE DOOR CANNOT OPEN FROM INSIDE OUR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, I PARKED AND WHEN I RETURNED, I COULD NOT OPEN THE DOORS (IN ALL 3 INSTANCES). FRONT PASSENGER AND BOTH REAR DOORS. REAR DOORS FAILED WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER AND ALL THREE INSTANCES OF FAILURE HAVE OCCURRED WITHIN A YEAR (FRONT IN JANUARY, REAR IN OCTOBER). I CONTACTED HYUNDAI ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHEN IT OCCURRED WITH THE REAR DOORS, CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS (I.E. PEOPLE TRAPPED IN CARS IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY). THE HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVE I TALKED WITH AGREED THAT IT WAS A HUGE SAFETY RISK/ISSUE, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT WITHOUT THE DIRECTION OF THE NHTSA (SUCH AS A RECALL OF THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR).

THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. THE LOCK DOES CLICK BACK AND FORTH BUT THE DOOR REMAINS STUCK. A REAR DOOR LOCK IS 'FROZEN" IN A LOCKED POSITION. IT REJECTS PHYSICAL AND ELECTRONIC ATTEMPTS TO OPEN. IT REMAINS WHEN ENGINE IS OFF OR ON. IT IS NOT LOCKED BY CHILD PROTECTION. IT CLEARLY IS A DANGER TO OCCUPANTS IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT FIRE. A WEB SEARCH FOR HYUNDAI TUCSON 2016 (AND SOME SIMILAR) DOOR LOCKS SHOWS THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH FAILED SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING ON MY DAUGHTER'S 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON. THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE CAR DOOR COULD HAVE LED TO SO MANY HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION. PLEASE IMAGINE IF THE DRIVER'S DOOR FAILED DURING A VEHICLE FIRE, A SUBMERGED SITUATION, A CAR CRASH, ETC. THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF YOUR CHILD DRIVER BEING TRAPPED IN THE CAR DURING A SITUATION LIKE I JUST MENTIONED. AS YOU CAN EXPECT, I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE DEFECT AND I'M SHOCKED THERE IS NO RECALL OR FREE REPAIR AVAILABLE FOR THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I'VE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BASED ON THE EXCELLENT RATINGS OF QUALITY AND SAFETY. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, EACH OF THE DOOR LATCHES COULD SUBSEQUENTLY FAIL AS WELL AS THE NEW LATCH RECENTLY INSTALLED. REAR PASSENGER DOORS WON'T OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLES. THIS STARTED INTERMITTENTLY THEN ULTIMATELY TRAPPED PASSENGERS IN THE REAR SEATS OF THE VEHICLE. NOTHING WORKED TO RELEASE THE DOORS, CAUSING PASSENGERS TO HAVE CRAWL THROUGH FRONT SEATS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. INVESTIGATING OF ANY RECALLS WE FOUND THAT THIS IS WIDE SPREAD OVER SEVERAL YEARS, AND CHARGES RANGE FROM $400 TO $2K. WHEN CLEARLY THIS IS DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS OR DESIGN, USED IN AND FOR LOCKING SYSTEM, FAIR EXPECTATION THAT OCCUPANTS CAN EXIT THE VEHICLE IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. HYUNDAI SERVICE CONSIDERS THIS A MALFUNCTIONING PART AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR BY AGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DOORS LOCKING ACTUATORS ARE MALFUNCTIONING THERE IS NO OPTION TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DOORS, AGAIN CAUSING A PERSON TO BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. PEOPLE ARE REPORTING FROM 1 DOOR TO ALL 4 DOORS FAILING TO OPEN. OUR CAR THE REAR DOORS DO NOT OPEN. HYUNDAI SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THIS DEFECTIVE PART/DESIGN AND NOT AT THE CAR OWNERS EXPENSE.

AFTER USING THE KEYLESS ENTRY AND INSIDE DRIVER SIDE SWITCHES TO UNLOCK THE CAR NUMEROUS TIMES, THE DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN. THE OTHER 3 DOORS WERE UNLOCKING AND LOCKING JUST FINE. MY DOORS HAVE BEEN NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUT. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND THEY SAY IT'S BECAUSE THE DOOR LATCH IS BAD. THIS IS A TOTAL SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AND MY ONLY WAY OUT WAS THE DOOR I WOULD BE LOCKED IN AND POTENTIALLY DIE. THE FACT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR PEOPLE FOR OVER A YEAR AND STILL NOT A RECALL AND FOR IT TO HAPPEN TO ME TWICE IS RIDICULOUS. MY DAD IS A FIRST RESPONDER AND SAYS THAT THIS ISN'T A RECALL IS UNACCEPTABLE. AND THE FACT THAT THE ONLY WAY IT WILL BE A RECALL IS FOR SOMEONE TO DIE IN THE ACCIDENT AND FOR THEM TO SUE HYUNDAI TO BE A RECALL IS RIDICULOUS. PLEASE CONSIDER THE DOOR LATCH ISSUE TO BE A RECALL YOU CAN SEE ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE BY TYPING IN GOOGLE. ACCORDING TO HYUNDAI (AND SEVERAL OTHERS IN VARIOUS ONLINE FORUMS), THERE IS A KNOWN DOOR LATCH ISSUE THAT AFFECTS 2015 AND NEWER HYUNDAI TUCSONS AND POSSIBLY OTHER HYUNDAI MODELS. OUR 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE AND THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WILL ONLY OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. THIS POSES A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO THE FACT THAT IF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WAS TO BECOME DAMAGED OR BLOCKED, IT WOULD BE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO 1. ESCAPE THE VEHICLE, OR 2. SAVE SOMEONE IN THE BACKSEAT DURING AN EMERGENCY- SPECIFICALLY CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES OR ELDERLY WHO REQUIRE ASSISTANCE. IF THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, AND LATER AFFECTS THE PASSENGER'S SIDE, ONE COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE TO BREAK A WINDOW JUST TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE PUTS DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS IN IMMINENT DANGER, NOT TO MENTION THE STRESS, FRUSTRATION AND FEAR OF NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN YOUR CAR DOOR TO REMOVE A CHILD FROM A CAR SEAT OR LOVED ONE INTO THEIR WHEEL CHAIR. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR ANY VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY ONE THAT IS ONLY 3.5 YEARS OLD. HYUNDAI'S UNWILLINGNESS TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN $1000 BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS TOO MANY MILES IS OUTRAGEOUS. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MILEAGE- IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN NEEDING AN IMMEDIATE RECALL. BEING LOCKED/TRAPPED INSIDE A VEHICLE IS NEVER OKAY.

ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE CHILDREN, I HAVE 2 KIDS UNDER 5 IN CAR SEATS AND IF I NEEDED TO GET THEM OUT IN AN EMERGENCY I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO IN A TIMELY MANNER. I'VE SEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY $1000 FOR MY DOOR TO OPEN.

Sep 23, 2020

MY REAR PASSENGER DOOR STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY. IT WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INTERIOR LATCH OR THE EXTERIOR.AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AS I NORMALLY HAVE PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE AND IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY MY PASSENGERS WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ESCAPE ON THAT SIDE OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DOOR.

PASSENGER SIDE DOORS - FIRST THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR, THEN THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR - STOPPED OPENING. FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WAS ABLE TO BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE (ROLLING DOWN WINDOW), BUT THE BACK DOOR HAD THE CHILD LOCK ENGAGED SO COULD NOT BE OPENED AT ALL. ANALYSIS AT DEALERSHIP DETERMINED IT WAS (IN BOTH CASES) THE ACTUATOR AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I HAD MY 3 YEAR OLD IN CHILDSEAT IN BACK AND COULD NOT GET TO HER QUICKLY. I'VE NOW MOVED HER CAR SEAT TO THE OTHER SIDE, HOWEVER, I DO NOT WANT TO ENGAGE THE CHILDLOCK ON THAT DOOR IN CASE THE SAME THING HAPPENS - THEN I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REACH HER AT ALL - THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME.

YOU HAVE TO PULL IT THREE TIMES BEFORE IT OPENS. THEN THE CO-PILOT WINDOW STOPPED FUNCTIONING. WENT TO GO GET IT FIXED AND THEY SAID THE DOOR SHOULD BE FIXED AFTER REPLACING THE MOTOR. FALSE. DOOR STILL DOES NOT WORK. REAR PASSENGER DOOR DOES NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUT. COULD BE A RISK SINCE NOW ONLY ONE DOOR IN THE BACK IS OPERABLE. THE WINDOW FROM THE DRIVER DOOR STOPPED OPERATING. THAT IS NOW THREE OF 4 DOORS. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE UNTIL THIS IS A RECALL? ALSO WHEN THE PASSENGER WINDOW GOT FIXED THEY SAID THE PLASTIC MOTOR WAS SLIGHTLY MELTED?! FIRE HAZARD.

AFTER RESEARCHING IT SEEMS THIS IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI. HAVING ALL DOORS WORK IS CERTAINLY AN SAFETY ISSUE. THIS HAPPENS WHILE IN PARK WITH THE VEHICLE ON OR OFF.

THE CAR DOESNT GO WHEN YOU STEP ON THE GAS, PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC IS DANGEROUS. THE PROBLEM EXASTURBATED WHEN THE CARS 1ST 15 MINUTES OF RUNNING. AND ANYTIME I GO FROM A COMPLETE STOP FOR LONGER THAN 30 SECONDS, THERE IS LITTLE MOMENTUM, WHETHER I'M TURNING OR GOING FORWARD. I HAVE TO USE THE 7 SPEED MANUAL TO ENSURE SAFETY PULLING OUT INTO CROSS TRAFFIC, THE RESULTS COULD BE DEADLY. THE CAR HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN SEVERAL TIMES, BUT ROUTE 60 HYUNDAI, VERO BEACH IS RUDE! GETTING A LOANER FOR THIS RECALL WAS HORRIFIC THE 1ST TIME, AND THEY WOULDN'T GIVE ME A VEHICLE THE 2ND, 3RD OR 4TH TIME. #2 THE DOORS AND WINDOWS, THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR AND THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR, DO NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUT, AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER WINDOW NO LONGER OPERATES, GOD FORBID THERE IS AN ACCIDENT, THERE IS NO ESCAPE. IF YOU TAP FIRMLY ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR WITH THE CAR UNLOCKED, THE DOOR WILL OPEN AND CLOSE JUST FINE UNTIL THE DOORS ARE LOCKED AGAIN. I'VE DONE LOTS OF ONLINE RESEARCH AND THERE SEEMS TO BE MANY HYUNDAI OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED.

Aug 23, 2020

REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. IT IS UNLOCKED AND THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS ARE NOT ENGAGED. NO AMOUNT OF PUSHING FROM INSIDE NOR PULLING FROM OUTSIDE WILL MOVE THE DOOR. THIS HAPPENED AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR 3 DAYS WITHOUT BEING DRIVEN. THERE HAVE BEEN NO IMPACTS, ETC. TO THE VEHICLE WHATSOVER. WE WENT OUT TO GO FOR A DRIVE AND COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR FOR MY TODDLER TO GET IN.

MY RIGHT SIDE REAR DOOR, AND PASSENGER DOOR HANDLES BOTH STOPPED WORKING AND WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR. MY CAR DOOR WILL NOT BUDGE FROM THE INSIDE NOR OUTSIDE NO MATTER HOW MUCH FORCE I PUT INTO IT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS, IF I EVER HAD TO GET THEM OUT IN AN EMERGENCY I'D HAVE TO GET THEM OUT THROUGH THE WINDOW! THIS IS NOT A CHEAP FIX, AND I SEE IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG OWNERS OF THIS SAME MODEL. PLEASE WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED YET

Aug 20, 2020

I WENT TO GET MY 1 YR OLD OUT OF HIS CAR SEAT LAST NIGHT AND THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE. IT WAS UNLOCKED. I'VE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS SO THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN IF THERE WAS AN EMERGENCY AND I HAD TO GET HIM OUT QUICKLY. I HAD TO CRAWL IN THE BACK SEAT AND DRAG MY 30 LB 1 YEAR OLD OUT UP OVER HIS CAR SEAT AND THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE CAR OUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER DOOR.

BOTH THE PASSENGER SIDE AND DRIVER SIDE REAR DOORS WON'T OPEN FROM EITHER INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. NO CHILD LOCK IS ON, AND THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON WORKS FINE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I PULL THE DOOR HANDLE FROM OUTSIDE OR INSIDE. I HAVE MY CHILDREN SITTING IN THE REAR SEATS AND IT IS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE, BEING UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM EITHER SIDE. I FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO THIS PARTICULAR YEAR MODEL 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON, AND THERE ARE MANY CONSUMER COMPLAINTS FOR THIS PROBLEM. ALSO, IN KOREA, THE ORIGINAL COUNTRY OF HYUNDAI, THE NATIONAL CONSUMER REPORT AGENCY ANNOUNCED, IN DECEMBER 2019, OF THIS ISSUE AND REQUESTED HYUNDAI MOTORS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AND HYUNDAI HAS ACCEPTED TO REPAIR THIS KNOWN ISSUE TO THE CONSUMERS. HYUNDAI HAS FAILED TO IMPLEMENT THIS FIX IN US AND IT IS A VERY BIG EXPENSE THAT THE CUSTOMER HAS TO BEAR FOR A SAFETY ISSUE. UPON INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT THE REAR DOOR-LOCK LATCH ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY IS THE PROBLEM COMPONENT THAT HAS SOME SORT OF CHEAP PLASTIC CAUSING THE ISSUE AND THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE UPLOADED THE PICTURES OF THE LATCH ASSEMBLY THAT REQUIRES A REPLACEMENT.

MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD ONLY OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE AFTER 3+ PULLS ON THE HANDLE. NOW THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE. LOCK STILL ENGAGES AND DISENGAGES, BUT DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. THIS COMPROMISES THE SAFETY OF MY REAR PASSENGERS.

IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME, 3 OF MY 4 DOORS OPEN UNRELIABLY AND ONE WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL. IT STARTED WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. YOU ALWAYS MUST PULL THE HANDLE 2 TO 4 TIMES TO GET IT TO OPEN. IT SEEMED ONLY AN INCONVENIENCE, AND IT WAS QUOTED AS VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX, SO I JUST IGNORED IT. THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. IT ALWAS TAKES 2 TO 4 ATTEMPTS AT PULLING THE HANDLE TO OPEN. AGAIN, I CHALKED IT UP TO AN INCONVENIENCE, BUT IT WAS STARTING TO BECOME VERY CONCERNING. THE REASON I WRITE IS THAT NOW (JUST WEEKS AFTER THE SECOND DOOR'S RELIABILITY ISSUE STARTED), MY REAR RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN, NO MATTER HOW MANY ATTEMPTS YOU MAKE. THE TWO FRONT DOORS DO OPEN ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT FROM THE INSIDE AS THEY SHOULD. HOWEVER, THE REAR RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR WILL NEVER OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE. THIS IS NOT A CHILD LOCK ISSUE AS I'VE NEVER USED THEM. IT SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING. THE DOOR IS USELESS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF SOMEONE IN THE BACK SEAT NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IN A HURRY. I RESEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND IT APPEARS TO BE QUITE COMMON ON HYUNDAI TUCSONS - I SAW MANY PEOPLE DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP IS ASKING ANYWHERE FROM $400 TO $1000 TO FIX EACH DOOR! AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I FEEL THAT IT STRONGLY WARRANTS CONSIDERATION FOR A RECALL THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THIS MATTER.

THE CAR WAS UNLOCKED USING THE KEY FOB AND LOCKS WERE NOT A FACTOR. 2 DAYS LATER THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR SUDDENLY WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE. CHILD SAFETY LOCK WAS NOT IN USE AND THE CAR WAS UNLOCKED USING THE KEY FOB. THERE IS NO WAY FOR A PERSON TO ENTER OR EXIT THE VEHICLE THROUGH THAT DOOR. VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IN AN EMERGENCY RIDERS WOULD BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE AND COULD BECOME TRAPPED INSIDE. THE DRIVER ALSO NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO QUICKLY ENTER THE VEHICLE. HYUNDAI DEALER IDENTIFIED FAILED LATCH ASSEMBLY AS THE PROBLEM. *TR

I WAS GOING STRAIGHT ON THE 202 FREEWAY HEADED WEST TO I-10 WITH NO EXITS UNTIL I-10 & RAY RD. I HAD BEEN GOING APPROX. 65MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED WITH NO WARNING. IN MY CASE ALL THREE DOORS WERE LOCKED AND COULD NOT OPEN IN STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY, TURNING OR OFF. IT STARTED WITH DRIVER'S DOOR NOT OPENING FROM OUTSIDE 1ST AND WHEN I UNLOCKED USING MY CAR KEY IT WOULDN'T OPEN. I HAD TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM PASSENGER SIDE IN ORDER TO GET TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THEN BOTH BACK PASSENGER LEFT AND RIGHT DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THIS CREATED MAJOR CONCERN AND SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I COULDN'T HAVE ANYONE SITTING IN THE BACK SINCE NO ONE COULD GET IN OR GET OUT. I TOOK MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND SINCE MY CAR HAD 62,000 MILES IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE HYUNDAI WARRANTY. THEY REPLACED THE DRIVER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FOR $392 IN 12/13/2019. ONE MONTH LATER IN 1/13/2020 I STARTED HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH BACK RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR AND ONE WEEK LATER IN 1/18/20 I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH BACK LEFT PASSENGER DOOR. THIS TIME BOTH BACK DOORS WERE LOCKED FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE SO NO ONE WAS ABLE TO GET IN OR OUT. I TOOK MY CAR TO AAMCO AND THEY HAD TO REMOVE THE DOORS TRIM & SEALS TO GET DOORS OPEN AND REPLACED BOTH DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS FOR $862.79. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED WITH MY OTHER CARS AND IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN WHEN YOU ARE LOCKED INSIDE THE CAR AND CAN'T GET OUT. THERE HAS BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS NOT FUNCTIONING AND REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. I'M HOPING NHTSA CAN ADDRESS THIS SAFETY CONCERN AND ASK HYUNDAI TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE PARTS. I KNOW SOON I WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY TRUNK DOOR AND FRONT RIGHT DOOR. HAD AN OIL CHANGE ON 1-26-2020 AND THE NEXT WEEK ON 2-2-2020 THE ENGINE WAS TAPPING, CHECKED THE OIL AND DISCOVERED NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE LOW OIL INDICATOR LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. THE CAR CONTINUES TO BURN OIL. MECHANICS CHECKED CAR AGAIN AND NO LEAKS WAS DISCOVERED. AND STILL UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THIS CAR IS BURNING OIL. MECHANIC IS RECOMMENDING A NEW ENGINE. ALSO, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE ACCURATELY AND HESITATES AT ABOUT 45 MPH. THERE IS A CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. WE PURCHASED A 2016 TUCSON LIMITED ON BLACK FRIDAY OF 2016. THIS VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH THE AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING (AEB) SAFETY OPTION, AS IS ADVERTISED AND DEMONSTRATED ON THE HYUNDAI WEBSITE WITH VIDEO. WE EXPERIENCED A MINOR FRONT-END COLLISION AT APPROXIMATELY 8-10 MPH WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AT A YIELD FROM HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP. BASED ON THE ADVERTISED FUNCTION AND VIDEO, SHOULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY THE AEB. SUBSEQUENT TO THIS COLLISION, WE BEGAN SEEING INTERMITTENT WARNING NOTIFICATIONS TO CLEAN THE FRONT RADAR EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO DIRT OR ANY OBSTRUCTION. THESE MESSAGES WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY CLEAR AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30-60 SECONDS. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE EVALUATED. THE VEHICLE WAS WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR ALMOST TWO WEEKS AND AFTER EXTENSIVE TESTING - WHICH INCLUDED MULTIPLE ROAD TESTS, MULTIPLE SIMULATED OBSTRUCTION DETECTION, A PEDESTRIAN CHALLENGE BY THE SERVICE MANAGER, LITERATURE REVIEWS, AND AN ONSITE EVALUATION FROM HYUNDAI ENGINEERING ' AND AFTER ALL OF THESE EVALUATIONS, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS ALSO UNABLE TO TRIGGER THE AEB UNDER ANY CONDITIONS ALTHOUGH THE ELECTRONIC SCAN INDICATES THAT THE RADAR IS OPERATIVE. THEY HAVE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO US WITH THE STATEMENT THAT IT IS FUNCTIONING AS INTENDED. THE AEB IS NOT DEMONSTRABLY FUNCTIONING, REGARDLESS OF RADAR OPERATION.
