My car on the expressway wouldn't go over 40 and this was happening intermittently so my car was unsafe. No check engine light but it was just at the dealership for an oil change. Has. been an ongoing problem since I bought the car! Smells, gets hot!

Van Hyundai Dealership in Carrollton, TX has confirmed excessive oil consumption causing catalytic converter failure that results in the engine stalling and unable to accelerate. We’ve already replaced the catalytic converter once in 2024 because it was full of oil and causing engine failure. Less than a year later (less than 10,500 miles) the same problem was reproduced. The dealership refuses to replace our engine due to the engine defect. This problem directly impacts the engines ability to perform, unable to accelerate on the interstate, and engine stalling which directly impacts our safety and puts our family into a life threatening situation when the engine fails on the highway. The engine has a defect that Hyundai refuses to address. There are no warnings or engine lights that appear beforehand which is extremely concerning and a liability. Hyundai motor company is corrupt. I took my car in for a daily oil change and inspection, where I learned that there was no oil is in my car after coming in 5k miles before as I have been religious about oil changes. I came in on Saturday September 20th for an inspection and was topped off with 3 quarts of oil but am now back in the shop Monday September 22nd to test the oil. The oil that was checked came out Black.

I am submitting this formal safety complaint regarding my 2018 Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle has 101,900 miles and has been well maintained. Recently, it began experiencing severe performance issues, including difficulty accelerating and consuming oil at an abnormal rate. The dealership diagnosed the problem as a failed catalytic converter with an estimated repair cost of over $8,000. While Hyundai has an active recall on the engine for this model year, they have stated that my specific problem is not covered, despite the fact that the catalytic converter failure appears to be directly related to the engine defect. The oil consumption and acceleration issues raise serious safety concerns, as the vehicle can lose power unexpectedly while driving. I am a teacher, a parent, and have one child with special needs. I have no other form of transportation and am still making payments on a car I cannot safely drive. Hyundai’s refusal to address this issue as part of the known recall leaves me with an unsafe and inoperable vehicle through no fault of my own. I believe this matter warrants further investigation by the NHTSA, as it suggests that related component failures stemming from the defective engine are not being adequately addressed, leaving owners at financial and safety risk. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate whether Hyundai is failing to address a known defect’s full scope and to take appropriate action to ensure the safety and fair treatment of affected consumers. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The car experienced a red, blinking check engine light. We had the car towed to the local Hyundai dealership. Please see attached document for the work that was done. This was in November 2023, and we just now had to have the car towed to the dealership again (April 2024).

My car was working fine since I bought it in April 2023. I passed inspection in November 2023. On January 24, after driving for about 15mins, my check engine light began flashing. The car would not accelerate over 25mph. I brought it to a dealership where it has been for 3 days. All communication about this problem was initiated by me, and the only answers I get are vague comments about testing.

This is the 2nd time I have had a sensor indicator. The first was a knock sensor where my car barely made it across the road. Now another code for intake issues. If my car dies and I get hit Hyundai is liable. I know many people that have issues with their Hyundai dying and are without their cars waiting for repairs for. months and months, but the fact that I have a grandson and my car could die is incomprehensible. These cars need to be pulled off the market.

The car is having problems excellating when you push the gas it take it a moment to realize the gas is push and it needs to go

Jul 27, 2023

The car has acceleration issues and when you try to press down on the gas it sputters and loses power, it is becoming a safety hazard when driving 45 mph or higher. If you try to pass another vehicle it slows down and almost stops, we have had to pull to the side of the road to avoid being in an accident. This is NOT normal for a vehicle to do this and something needs to be done before we end up dead.

The oil fuel tank has been burning oil too fast in the GDI Engine & the oil has burnt through my alternator and spark plugs that I recently fixed only three weeks ago. This caused the engine to lock up completely while I was driving several times & I lost control while driving - having to restart the car multiple times to move it to a safe area. Now, the engine has locked permanently and I am unable to start the car at all despite replacing several parts and getting an oil change every 3-5000 miles (which continues to leak too quickly and harm other parts in the car).

AFTER STARTING MY CAR THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE, AT DIFFERENT TIMES, BUT NOT CONSISTENTLY. THE SMELL OF GAS IS VERY STRONG IN THE CABIN AREA EVEN WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES, ONCE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STARTED THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF FUEL COMING FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE AREA. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP, WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS FOUND, PER CAMELBACK HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN PHOENIX ARIZONA (12/29/20).

SO I PURCHASED MY CAR MARCH OF 2019. IT FIRST STARTED OFF REALLY GOOD BUT THAN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE CAR HAS BEEN HAVING A ISSUE WITH KEEPING OIL I HAD IT CHECKED NUMEROUS TIMES AND NO ONE SEEMS TO FIND THE ISSUE. I COULD LITERALLY GET OIL CHANGED AND WITHIN THREE FOUR WEEKS MY ENGINE IS EMPTY AND SOUND REALLY ROUGH. THE CAR STALLS AND MY RPM GOES UP OUT OF THE BLUE AS IF I HIT THE GAS. I'M EVEN HAVING A ISSUE WITH TAKE OFF FOR IT TO BE A BRAND NEW CAR MY CAR TAKE FOREVER TO PICK UP SPEED AND SOME TIMES IT ACT AS IF IT DON'T WANT TO MOVE.

THIS IS MY 2ND ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE I HAVE ALWAYS NOTICED THAT WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP (AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN) AND I GO TO PRESS ON THE GAS THE CAR DOESN'T GO. IT'S LIKE IT HESITATED BEFORE IT STARTS TO PICK UP SPEED. I ALWAYS CHALKED IT UP TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS A 4 CYLINDER BUT AFTER SPEAKING TO MY MECHANIC I FIND OUT THAT THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND CAN BE THE SIGN OF A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO FIX FOR THIS.

AROUND 1500 ,ILES THE CAR STARTED TO EITHER STALL COMPLETELY OR "JUMP" FORWARD IN AL DRIVEMODES, TOOK TO DEALERSHIP , THEY SAID IT HAS TO DO WITH TRANSMISSION BEING ESSENTIALLY A STANDARD. THEY TOLD US THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND IT NEEDS THIS OCCASIONALLY. REALLY NEVER HEARD OF THAT. OUR GASMILEAGE IS ALSO CONSTANLTY GOING DOWN. NOT HAPPY WITH THE CONSTANT SUDDEN ACCELERTION ESPECIALLY WHEN MERGING ONTO INTERSTATES. BOUGHT THIS THING BRAND NEW FEB 2018.
