On or about May 1, 2025, I was operating my 2013 Hyundai Veloster when flames were observed emanating from under the hood. I immediately pulled into the median and, upon opening the hood, observed an active fire beneath the plastic engine cover. I contacted 911. Before the fire department arrived, a passerby extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters from a nearby station arrived shortly thereafter and fully doused the engine compartment. The vehicle was subsequently towed to a Hyundai dealership. At that time, I was aware of an active recall related to potential brake line issues that could result in an engine compartment fire. After the vehicle remained at the dealership for an extended period, I was informed that Hyundai Motor America (“HMA”) would send an inspector. Approximately 30 days later, I was contacted by HMA’s corporate office and asked to provide documentation, including a copy of the title and insurance information. During this call, I was advised that while repair or replacement of the vehicle was unlikely, HMA would “make me whole.” Shortly thereafter, I received written correspondence from HMA stating that, following its review of the inspection results, documents, and other information, no product defect was identified as the cause of the incident. The letter concluded that HMA would not accept responsibility and denied my request for assistance or compensation.
Smoke, burning smell came from ac control unit. Ac wiring unit, knob completely burned/melted. Reported to Hyundai local and corporate office no resolution other then I just have to replace the unit. Please note this happened in 2022 (40,000 miles today vehicle had 58,000miles) and I paid in full for the replacement the 1st time.
The knob for the A/C can not handle the amperage when in the 4 position, it gets too hot, melts, and shuts off the system. It is available for inspection. Hyundai is acutely aware of this problem and recalled it in other years, the same as their junk engines, but once again the owners of the 2013 are left out in the dark. This is a fire hazard that the manufacturer is trying to sweep under the rug, there are service bulletins out on it for other years.

Car started smoking on cabin while driving. Risk of hazard dueto bad A/C control switch. Wiring harness and plug melted too. Several Hyundai Veloster are suffering same issue. Started to think blower wiring is to small for load too. Pleaae see attached pictures. Time and miles provided is an approximate. Do not remember when exactly happened but was reported previously. In the pictures you are going to be able to see the faulty part P/N for your review.
The air conditioner knob doesn't work when I put it at 4. Took it apart and the wires are burn including the pigtail that holds the wires into the knob.
On October 17, 2024, owner was leaving Denver, CO on the highway and had to stop for traffic and vehicle wouldn't move. Was in drive but vehicle would not drive and pulled to side of road. Had insurance tow to nearest Hyundai dealership. Check engine light was on and dealership checked vehicle and needed to have the crankshaft position sensor replaced. Fixed the problem thank God and I was on my road shortly there after. My Veloster is 2013 with 47,000 miles at time of incident.
Vehicle is burning through oil without having oil light engaged. Vehicle is going through two quart + of oil every 3 weeks. Just added 2 quarts of oil 3 weeks ago when the car would not accelerate past 5mph and rough idled (this turned out to be caused by a different issue still being diagnosed), I added the oil as dip stick showed no oil on the stick. Light did not come on. Took to independent mechanic this week who stated I had no oil in the vehicle. Can not go 3 month/3000 miles for an oil change or the engine would be damaged. Have taken the vehicle several times to Valvoline who indicate no oil with no oil pressure light on, each time. This has been constant for 2 years. Each mechanic shop states the GDI engines are burning through oil. No oil leaks have been detected. This issue could result in serious engine damage.
First the turbo stopped working n smoking. Took it to the dealer n they had it for a month.. Get it back one day later had to have it towed . Vehicle was there for another 2 weeks got it back and it started to smoke. I pressed on the gas pedal n the car wouldn’t move! The first time the turbo was supposed to be replaced I believe ever since it was sent there to be replaced it was never the same. I still have the car and it will not start. The turbo n engine are filled with oils .
The Plug that connects to the AC control Unit is burned and damaged. In fact, When I replaced it its smells like smoke. It is the third time since 2018 that I changed the unit. I decided to officially make a complaint because I saw that this vehicles and exact models from 2014-2016 where included but My year not ( 2013). I called the Hyundai and they told me that I needed to buy the unit and go fix it in a dealer. I found it unfair because is a defect of the car not something People can make to the car. The campaing nunber is: 16-01-070 from december 2016 ( and my car where not included) The problem is not the unit is the plug that cames from the car that connects to the unit that melts and gets burned.( but the unit is damaged due to this)

The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming 3 quarts of oil every 3,500 miles. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, she heard an abnormal sound and pulled to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon inspecting the engine oil level, there was no oil on the dipstick. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light failed to illuminate. The contact then pulled into the nearest gas station, where oil was added to the engine. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light had failed to illuminate while the engine oil level was low on several occasions. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the low oil pressure warning was designed to illuminate when the oil level was 2 quarts low; however, the contact stated that the warning light had failed to illuminate. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for an oil consumption test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The blower fan only blows slightly and the knob does not work. This was a known issue with the 2014, but not the 2013. This causes a significant safety concern to someone living in extreme heat, especially children and the elderly.
This complaint is regarding safety recall #23V651000 related to my 2013 Hyundai Veloster. In September of 2023, a potential problem with the ABS module was identified which could cause an engine compartment fire while driving or parked. It is now February, 2024, 5 months later and there is still no resolution. This is unacceptable. I am driving a vehicle which could result in personal property damage and/or personal injury or death. Being told to park the vehicle outdoors and away from structures is not a long term solution until the recall remedy is completed. How much longer am I, and others going to have to wait for a resolution to this issue?
I am concerned with the notice of a recall which I received June 2023 concerning a possible electrical fault in the ABS module which could cause a fire in the engine compartment. There is NO fix available . I called my local Hyundai garage and the Hyundai corp office and they both told me the same thing and that is they do not have a fix and do not know when one will be available' I find this unacceptable and stalling by the Hyundai Company I am told that I should park the car away from the house as it might catch fire wether the car is running or not. Climate control switch melted and caused a small fire. I had to pull my dash apart very quicky to put it out. The Hyundai dealership would not help me even though a 2014 Elantra and Veloster has had technical service bulletins regarding this issue. They charged me 200$ dollars to tell me the switch melted even though I had already pulled it apart and showed them the issue. I spoke to Hyundai USA about it and they did not help me either. I bought the part and replaced it myself after the dealer tried to tell me it was almost 700$ for the repair. My son was in a panic because the cab of the car was filling with smoke as we were driving. No warnings or anything.

The contact stated that he shifted into park (P), turned off, and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic several times, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V132000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to schedule an appointment for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The manufacturer then referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Ac controls started melting and almost caused a fire.
A wire from the ac fan controller gets extremely hot and the fan controller melts. Could possibly be a fire hazard under the right circumstances.
Then wiring for the temperature control knob is faulty. When taken apart to see the problem it has very obviously melted from extreme overheating causing the plastic to deform and render the knob and a/c power button unusable. God only know what other electrical shorts and melted components are under the hood. They had a recall for other year models just not mine. Clearly it’s a universal issue and should be fixed accordingly.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while parking on a city street at approximately 3 MPH, the contact engaged the Reverse Park Aid Sensor (RPAS). The contact had to activate the "shift lock release" in order to park the vehicle. The contact stated that the turn signals were inoperable, the headlamps were not functioning normally, and the proximity rear sensor alarm had stopped functioning. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000. VIN showed no open recall.

UNKNOWN I'm not sure, I'm only scared what happens if this recalls isn't fixed sooner than expected so I can avoid unexpected issues or expensive repairs...

The blower for the AC and heater stopped working. It evidently caught fire because there is a burnt smell. When I searched the problem, I noticed that you already did a recall for this but left out the 2013 models. This is extremely dangerous as it could catch fire while driving. Please add the 2013s to the recall.
I was driving and the blower control switch stopped working and I had smoke coming out of my dash. Later my husband took it apart and the back of the switch and the part that plugged into the switch was burned. Without a blower, I don't have any defrost, fan, or ac option which could be dangerous in the winter if things ice over. We called Hyundai and they are very well aware of this issue and they said that we could replace it and the same thing could happen in 2 months and they aren't doing anything about it. This part was replaced once by the dealer while my car was under warranty. The only indication that there was a problem is when it stopped working along with the smoke issue.
The manual heater control unit, theinternal switch for the blower (fan) speed control become inoperative- the wire gets too hot and burns which makes this not work and could catch fire.

The contact cleaned the wiring harness with on contact cleaner; however, the contact stated that the vehicle began to overheat while idling. The contact diagnosed that the heater control wiring harness connector had melted. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The contact stated that the spark plugs had melted and made a hole in the piston. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A few months ago, my ABS and Traction Control lights began to come on and off randomly. Then, new lights would pop up, such as Check Engine and the Brake light. These lights would come on, and then go off very sporadically. In the last week, it had gotten much worse. My tire pressure light and EPS light had came on as well, totaling about 6 or 7 lights that are on and won't go off. Then, my steering wheel became increasingly hard to turn, I' m guessing because the EPS was off. Then, my speedometer completely stopped working, and my gas gauge was jumping up and down after I had filled it to a full tank. I pulled the code, and got code for a wheel speed sensor. I replaced the wheel speed sensor, and no lights went off. I then inspected the fuses, noticed that the ABS fuse was blown, and decided to replace it. I replaced it, and the ABS module (or pump) started to smoke badly. The car had a heavy electrical smoke smell and I didn't think it was safe to drive for a while. Hyundais have had recalls for ABS modules smoking before, but never for a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, and I believe that is something that should be investigated because I believe I could have been injured.

The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and had recall repair completed. The contact stated on 6/26/2022 while driving 60 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact continued driving to AutoZone and was informed that cylinder #4 had an unknown error code. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact took the vehicle to back to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing all four fuel injectors replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. So the vehicle wants to hesitate and buck violently to the point of nearly stalling out while accelerating and prevents the car from being able to merge into highway traffic in a safe manner and the surrounding years make and model are all on a recall due to a E.C.U. required update for a necessary reflashing for the ability to be use the automobile in the way it's designer/designers can make make want h. The severity and frequency of the problems are embarrassing and frustrating to be scared of risking my life being injured in a stalled/stalling vehicle without a power supply to navigate
I bought the 2013 Base Version Veloster w/ 80,000 miles on it back in 2021, beginning of January having no problems with the vehicle. Halfway through the month my Veloster started having on and off transmission problems, then at the end of the month, not even a month into owning the vehicle , my car won’t go into gear and my gear light is blinking on my dashboard. I do my research and see ALOT of Velosters have this problem, but don’t know the reason for it. So I proceed to take it to a trusted mechanic that does a diagnoses and determines I need a new TMC module, and also determined nothing else was wrong with the car. I had to wait 8 months to get the part from the Hyundai dealership and finally when they get it fixed, they tell me to take it to the Hyundai dealership to get it reprogram, because the car was put into limp mode after the new module was put in. After I picked up my vehicle, I took it to the dealership. I left them with all the information and insist that I only want to reprogram my TCM Module. They proceed to do a diagnosis on my car and call me the same day, saying They have a recall on the rode bearings and also that I need a new transmission, and will replace it for 7,100$. I was mortified. The vehicle is only 80,000, and I already have to replace the transmission after buying the vehicle, I feel scammed. If I see that thousands of people are having this same problem, I believe it needs to be address.
Driving on the interstate back from work going 60+ mph. The Vehicle TURNS OFF AND I LOST POWER, my RPMS DROPPED TO 0 and it was no longer accelerating. It’s AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I had to cruise my way off to the side and get my car towed to a shop. THIS COULD HAVE KILLED ME

faulty HVAC module and wiring catching on fire
Air condition control switch located in cabin below infotainment unit. The setting of 1-4, the one most used will stop working requiring use of another number. After removing the part (twice replaced by dealership previously) found the contact points of switch melted. The wiring harness plugged into control until also melting.
Electrical issues & engine issues. 2013 Hyundai Veloster. - purchased brand new and September 2013. CENTEREACH HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. Since day one I’ve had many issues. So I’m having multiple repairs and replacement of AC /Heat blower,switches, Resistors,-Blower head unit, radio,Control head ( Internally shorting.Recall #948 ( canister cracked).report to dealer sells of exhaust coming in car. Also had replaced Right rear door actuator. July 2018 complained of transmission slipping not going into gear pulling back etc. Dealer claims no trouble calls. Once again I am having the same issues. This time driver side window goes down by itself and will not stay up, I have to manually open passenger side door lock and once again the blower does not work. Lights on my dash all lit oil light had been flickering, tire pressure light stays on and airbag light is lit. Just recently I have been driving in the car and had thought in the middle of driving that the transmission had went the car mediately pulled back and did not move I was lucky enough to have guided it over to the side of the road. NHTSA # 19V204000 ( Hyundai recall #182) 2013 Hyundai Veloster - although it states four”TURBO ENGINE” only I am having the same exact problems. Let’s not wait until the engine goes on fire or causes a serious accident ! I am more than concerned and worried about this for I have no other transportation. I have contacted Hyundai customer care service. Both emailed and called. Hyundai Consumer Affairs # 18383206. I had also been advised over the phone(which I am was not aware of) another recall #966 - Involving a Hyundai Veloster’s 2012 -2017, as per rep. She set up an appointment with the dealership in which I go to, and also purchased the car, I asked her to please forward me a copy of the email and what she sent to the dealership, in which I am still waiting. I’m hoping the dealership Will take this more seriously coming from the manufacture. I Will advise outcome. Thank you
Ac control knob, electrical wiring started smoking and would have caught fire if i had not turned off ac the cat could have possibly caught fire, not yet it is scheduled to be inspected 06/19/2021, no warning signals were presented the ac would only blow on lower settings at the onset of thw problem. The problem first appeared on 6/16/2021.
Replaced the manual climate control on my 2013 hyundai veloster. The connector to the unit is melted.
SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, USED FROM CARMAX, THE LIGHTING ON THE STEERING WHEEL STOPPED TURNING ON AND WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON WHILE DRIVING, USUALLY AFTER ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES AND WHILE TURNING. . IT NO LONGER COMES ON AT ALL AND NONE OF THE STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS WORK ANYMORE EITHER, NOR DOES MY HORN.

THE CLIMATE CONTROL SWITCH HAS BEEN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE MAIN HARNESS WHERE CLIPS IN IS BURNT AN IS MELTING MY SWITCH OUT AFTER BEING CHANGED AN USED FOR FEW HOURS IT THEN BURNS OUT. THE CAR SMELLS LIKE IT'S MELTING THREW THE VENT OF PLASTIC.
MY SECOND HVAC CONTROL UNIT HAS MELTED. THE PLUG IS BURNT. THUS IS A RIDICULOUSLY NORMAL ISSUE, YOU KNOW WHEN IT FAIL BECAUSE YOU SMELL THE BURNING PLASTIC BEFORE THE HEAT SHUTS OFF.
IVE REPLACED THE ENGINE THREE TIME DUE TO FAILURE. THE FAILURE OF THE GDI MOTORS IS IMMINENT. ON A DIFFERENT NOTE, THE CLIMATE CONTROL KNOB HEATS UP AND BURNS OUT THE METAL STRIP BEHIND THE KNOB WHICH CAUSES THE KNOB TO EVENTUALLY BECOME USELESS.

FAN SPEEDS FOR HEAT AND A/C NO LONGER WORK WHEN THE DIAL IS PLACED ON THE NUMBER FOR THE SPEED OF THE FAN. TO GET SPEED #2 TO BLOW, THE DIAL IS ACTUALLY SOMEWHERE AROUND POSITION 2.5. TO GET SPEED #3 TO BLOW, THE DIAL NEEDS TO BE AT ABOUT 3.5, WILL NOT WORK WITH DIAL PLACED ON THE NUMBER 3 LIKE IT SHOULD. SAME ISSUE WITH FAN SPEED #4. AFTER REMOVING DASH PANELS TO INSPECT, WIRES AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS ARE GETTING SO HOT TO THE POINT THAT THEY MELT. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD.

MOST OF NOT ALL OWNERS OF HYUNDAI/KIA VEHICLES EXPERIENCE A SHORT IN THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT. THIS FAULT NOT ONLY CREATES A VISIBILITY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING THE CAR IN ADVERSE WEATHER. BUT MAY ALSO CAUSE SPARK FIRE ASSOCIATED WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL KNOB.
THE HEAD LIGHT BULBS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 6 TIMES, AND THE 'BRAIN' OF THE CAR HAS BEEN REPLACED 2 TIMES (WITH A REFURBISHED ONES, (NOT NEW). I UNDERSTAND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MAKE AND YEAR OF MY CAR FOR THE SOFTWARE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE OF ELECTRICAL ISSUES. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MY PARTICULAR CAR WAS NOT LISTED. MY CAR IS HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES!!!

AC CONTROL SWITCH REPLACED 4 TIMES AND THE CRUZE SWITCH HAS WIRE PROBLEM
I BOUGHT A 2013HYUNDAI VELOSTER IN APRIL OF 2019 WITH IN THE FIRST 2 DAYS OF HAVING CAR IT STOPPING ACCELERATING AN LEFT ME ON THE SIDE OF ROAD. I HAD TO CAR TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS BOUGHT . AFTER THEM LOOKING IN TO THE PROBLEM THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE CAR RAN FINE FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 5 TO 6 MONTHS. THEN ONE DAY BAD ROUGH IDEL RPMS DROPPING WHEN UNDER ACCELERATION AFTER PUTTING ON CODE READER IT TURNED OUT TO BE A MISFIRE I THEN REPLACE COIL PACK AND SPARK PLUGS. THE VELOSTER RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 3 TO 4 MONTHS THIS TIME. NOW WE ARE BACK TO THE CAR HAVING ISSUES TODAY 7/11/20 LOSS OF POWER UNDER ACCELERATION,ROUGH IDEL,KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM ENGINE. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI IN THE PAST ON THE 2013 ECU RECALL THEY DID NOT WANT TO HONOR THERE RECALL SAYING IN ORDER TO LOOK IN TO THE PROBLEM I'D NEED TO GET IT DIAGNOSED THROUGH THE DEALER WHEN I CAN SIMPLY USE MY OWE CODE READER. IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE I BOUGHT WITH ONLY 63000 MILES THIS IS FRUSTRATING IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE FOR HYUNDAI TO HONOR THERE RECALL THANK YOU .

I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND TEST-DROVE ANOTHER 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. THE ABS ONLY KICKED IN WHEN APPROPRIATE NOT WITH EVERY SINGLE BREAK. WHILE PURCHASING TIRES AFTER A 3RD BLOWOUT ( 30, 000 MILES) THE TIRE COMPANY NOTICED SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SENSORS TO THE ABS. SINCE THEN I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE TO NO AVAIL. THIS ISSUE WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ONLINE AND THERE HAS EVEN BEEN A RECALL FOR IT ISSUED BY HYUNDAI BUT FOR SOME REASON MY WIFE'S VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JULY 21ST 2017 AT 1:45PM AT 9701 DESSAU ROAD, AUSTIN TEXAS. I WAS COMING AROUND THE CORNER AT DESSAU AND RUNDBERG HEADING NORTH AND I FELT THE CAR SKIP A LITTLE AND HAD SOME LOSS OF POWER. I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT AT 9701 DESSAU AND THE CAR WAS SMOKING AND THE BRAKES WENT OUT. I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THEN OPENED THE HOOD, THERE WAS FIRE AND BLACK SMOKE COMING OUT AND I RAN INSIDE TO GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. IT LOOKED LIKE THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE SPREAD UNDER THE MOTOR COVER AND BURNED SOME OF THE HOOD, BUT I GOT TO IT QUICKLY AND MINIMAL DAMAGE WAS DONE. I COULD HAVE CRASHED AND DIED.

ONE AFTERNOON DURING RUSH HOUR IN THE BRONX MY GEAR STICK WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM P TO D SO I HAD TO USE THE OVERRIDE SHIFTIER FUNCTION JUST TO GET MY CAR TO MOVE. ALONG WITH THE GEAR SHIFT NOT WORKING NONE OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE CAR WORKED NOT MY INDICATORS/HAZARDS, MY WINDOWS WONT WIND DOWN SO I COULD AT LEAST SIGNAL MY INTENTION, MY WIND SHIELD WIPERS WERE NON OPERABLE AND MY SEAT BELT SENSOR DOES NOT WORK. IT WAS POURING OUT THIS DAY AND I HAD NO VISIBILITY BECAUSE MY WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK AND COULD NOT SIGNAL TO OTHER DRIVERS MY INTENTIONS. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE AFTERMARKET AUTO START THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD INSTALLED. SO I HAD THE AUTO START REMOVED BUT THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS, HYUNDAI IS UNSURE OF WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. HYUNDAI IS SUGGESTING A COMPLETE REWIRING BECAUSE THEY ARE UNSURE EXACTLY WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE AND CLAIM IT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, WHICH ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WILL COST ME UPWARD OF 7000$. I AM SURE THIS IS A DEFECT THERE IS NO WAY A CAR WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES SHOULD BE HAVING SUCH MAJOR ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE WITHOUT ANY INDICATORS OR MY GEAR SHIFTIER WORKING. WHEN MAKING A U-TURN OR PULLING INTO PARKING SPOTS IT TAKES ME TWICE AS LONG BECAUSE I NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING SHARP HANDY TO PUSH INTO THE GEAR SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON.

OUR 2013 MODEL HYUNDAI VELOSTER CLOSED SUNROOF EXPLODED ON FEBRUARY 27, 2016 WHILE DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY AT 65MPH IN FAST LANE. IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN GOING OFF WHEN THE ROOF EXPLODED INTO PIECES ON THE BACKS OF ME AND MY HUSBAND. WE WHERE IS UTTER SHOCK, TRYING TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY SAFELY WHILE GLASS FALLING ON US. WHEN LOOKING AT THE ROOF, IT WAS CLEAR THAT IT EXPLODED BURSTING FROM INSIDE OUT; LEAVING THE FRAME BENT LIKE IT WAS FORCED OPEN FROM INSIDE OUT. THIS WAS NOT A PRESSURE ISSUE (BEFORE GETTING ON FREEWAY, THE SUNROOF WAS OPEN). IT WAS NOT A HOT OR COLD ISSUES EITHER AS IT WAS A NICE 72 DEGREES. THOUGH THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2012 VELOSTER MODELS AND UNFORTUNATELY THERE HAS NOT BEEN ENOUGH PEOPLE TO REPORT ISSUES FOR 2013 MODELS AS OF YET. WHEN CONTACTING HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, I WANTED TO FILE COMPLAINT (THEY GAVE ME AN 1800 NUMBER) THEN I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY ISSUES, THEY DENIED EVER HEARING ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS. AS MY HUSBAND AND I ARE COMMUTERS, WE HAVE ALREADY RUN OUT OF WARRANTY AND WOULD NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I WILL BE FIGHTING FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF THE $1,490.00 ($500 DEDUCTIBLE) THAT IT COST TO FIX THE SUNROOF AND FRAME THAT NEEDED REPLACED. MY ARGUMENT IS THAT I PURCHASED MY 2013 VEHICLE IN OCT. 2012, THEREFORE MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2012 AND THEY WERE STILL USING THE 2012 DEFECTED ROOF FOR THE EARLY 2013 MODELS AND THAT SHOULD BE HONORED TO THE 2012 RECALL.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY DURING THE WINTER LAST YEAR APPROX. JANUARY AND HAD HALF THE MILES LISTED ABOVE. MY INTERIOR HEAT CONTROL WAS ON FULL BLAST AND IT CUT OUT. I TRIED TO ADJUST AND IT WOULD TURN ON IF THE KNOB WAS PERFECTLY ALIGNED....SLIGHT ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL WAS PRESENT. TOOK INTO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE INTERIOR BLOWER SWITCH, THE CONNECTION HAD SCORTCH MARKS ON IT SO THEY REPLACED THE WIRES AND CONNECTORS ALONG WITH THE SWITCH/CONTROL KNOB. 6 MONTHS LATER THE PROBLEM WAS RECURRING EXCEPT THIS TIME I WAS RUNNING AIR CONDITIONING AS THE TEMP OUTSIDE WAS 36 DEGREES CELSIUS OUTSIDE.... THIS TIME MUCH WORSE. IT SMELT LIKE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. ,,,I TOOK THE COVER PLATE OFF THAT HELD THE HEATER CONTROLS IN PLACE AND THE CONNECTIONS ON IT LITERALLY MELTED OFF INTO MY HAND. THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER DASHBOARD INSTRUMENTS ARE ALMOST UNREADABLE BY PERSONS WITH RED-GREEN COLOR BLINDNESS. APPROXIMATELY 5% TO 10% OF THE MALE POPULATION IS RED-GREEN COLOR BLIND (0.5% TO 1% FOR FEMALES). THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER DIALS ARE BLACK WITH WHITE LETTERING AND DEEP RED NEEDLES TO POINT AT THE LETTERING. THAT DEEP RED ON A BLACK BACKGROUND IS ALMOST INVISIBLE. IF I SPEND TIME SEARCHING, I CAN FIND THE NEEDLE, BUT IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO TAKE ONE'S EYES OFF THE ROAD FOR THE LENGTH OF TIME IT TAKES TO FIND THE ALMOST INVISIBLE NEEDLE. AN ARGUMENT OF, "IF YOU CAN'T READ THE INSTRUMENTS, GET A DIFFERENT CAR," IS NOT REASONABLE BECAUSE THE CAR ONE IS DRIVING IS NOT ALWAYS ONE'S OWN CAR, SUCH AS IT MAY BE AN EMPLOYER'S CAR OR (THE WAY I DISCOVERED THIS PROBLEM) IT MAY BE A RENTAL CAR, AND THERE ARE MANY OTHER SCENARIOS WHERE ONE DID NOT CHOOSE THE CAR ONE HAS TO DRIVE. THIS VEHICLE HAD A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE OCCUR AROUND 5:00 AM ON JULY 10TH; AS I WAS DRIVING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY (CAR IN DRIVE AND IN MOTION) ALL POWER FAILED. NO LIGHTS, ACCELERATION, POWER STEERING OR BRAKES, ETC. WHICH WAS A SERIOUS HAZARD ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE DARKNESS AT THAT TIME OF DAY. THIS SAFETY ISSUE FOLLOWED MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHERE ALL THE POWER FAILED WHEN TRYING TO ENTER THE VEHICLE USING THE PROVIDED KEY FOBS. THESE SITUATIONS COULD ALSO HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS AS ON ONE OCCASION THIS HAPPENED WHILE MY CAR WAS IN AN URBAN PARKING GARAGE IN THE EVENING. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES- 1 HOUR BEFORE THE POWER RESTORED AND I COULD START THE VEHICLE. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON JULY 5TH TO REMEDY THE POWER ISSUE AND THE TECHNICIAN COULD FIND NO ISSUE - THEY SWITCHED OUT THE CAR BATTERY AS A PRECAUTION IN THE EVENT THERE WAS A HAIRLINE CRACK CAUSING THE INTERMITTENT POWER FAILURES. AS OF AUGUST 27TH, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL NOT REPAIRED FROM THE JULY 10TH INCIDENT. DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME IT WAS REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUSE BOX AND ENGINE WIRING HARNESS AS THE DIAGNOSED CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. *JB
