Purchased car from Premier Auto in Kansas City, KS in January of 2023. The car had 70,000 miles on it. In July of 2023 I was driving on a 4 lane HWY with a speedlimit of 65. The car suddenly jerked to and slowed to 35 MPH. The car behind me nearly hit me. I had it towed to Midas to have it checked out. They informed me the engine had failed and it was because of a manufacturer recall. I then had it towed to a Hyundai dealership in October 2023. They stated to me that it was engine failure due to a recall but they would not fix it. They stated not under recall. The dealership then sent me a notice saying that I owed them 150 dollars and they would keep the car. I filed a claim with Hyundai corporate and they denied repairs stating not under warranty. I appealed that which was a denied response with the reason as not under warranty. I then filed a claim with BBB warranty department and their response was "we only assist with new car warranty issues. I then filed another claim with Hyundai corporate and the dealership and both denied it because of the warrant expiration. While that was happening I lost my spouse of 23 years. The car has been at the dealership for 2.5 years now and I continue to submit requests that are continuously denied.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle stopped and failed to accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the contact that there was no special warranty coverage on the vehicle for the repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

On or about May 1, 2025, I was operating my 2013 Hyundai Veloster when flames were observed emanating from under the hood. I immediately pulled into the median and, upon opening the hood, observed an active fire beneath the plastic engine cover. I contacted 911. Before the fire department arrived, a passerby extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters from a nearby station arrived shortly thereafter and fully doused the engine compartment. The vehicle was subsequently towed to a Hyundai dealership. At that time, I was aware of an active recall related to potential brake line issues that could result in an engine compartment fire. After the vehicle remained at the dealership for an extended period, I was informed that Hyundai Motor America (“HMA”) would send an inspector. Approximately 30 days later, I was contacted by HMA’s corporate office and asked to provide documentation, including a copy of the title and insurance information. During this call, I was advised that while repair or replacement of the vehicle was unlikely, HMA would “make me whole.” Shortly thereafter, I received written correspondence from HMA stating that, following its review of the inspection results, documents, and other information, no product defect was identified as the cause of the incident. The letter concluded that HMA would not accept responsibility and denied my request for assistance or compensation.
While driving under normal conditions at approximately 65 mph, the engine emitted a sudden “bang” and severe knock. Over the following week, the vehicle stalled several times. Inspection revealed one piston crown was chipped, which then scored the cylinder wall and caused an oil leak. No other pistons or bearings showed wear. This failure pattern is consistent with low‐speed pre-ignition events documented in numerous online owner reports—many describing identical piston or rod breakage in 2013–2015 Veloster Turbos under Recall 19V204000, which addresses exactly this defect. The vehicle was partially disassembled for inspection, and Hyundai dealers have refused to perform the federally mandated Recall 19V204000 remedy. Instead, they deceptively insist on treating this as a warranty work request—despite me having told them more than five times (on multiple recorded calls), in two portal updates, and via certified letters, that this is a safety recall issue, not a warranty claim. Their refusal has forced me to incur several thousand dollars worth of expenses and spend dozens of hours pursuing a remedy. Hyundai representatives have repeatedly argued that this engine malfunction may stem from previous accident damage. However, the vehicle’s only collisions occurred in June 2014, when it sustained moderate to severe front-end damage at approximately 1,000 miles and was subsequently repaired at a certified dealer, and in 2019, when it incurred rear-end damage under 30,000 miles. The piston-crown failure I experienced in 2024—at 90,000–95,000 miles—cannot be attributed to either of those incidents. Its nature and timing are fully consistent with low-speed pre-ignition, the exact defect addressed by Recall 19V204000. An 11-page CARFAX report and full call‐recordings are available upon request.
Vehicle Info: 2013 Hyundai Veloster VIN: [XXX] Odometer: 75,000 miles Problem Description: My check engine light began flashing and the vehicle entered limp mode. Diagnostic codes showed P1326 and U1103, which are linked to a known Theta II engine defect involving rod bearing failure. Hyundai issued a 15-year / 150,000-mile warranty extension and settled a class-action lawsuit to cover these failures. However, my request for coverage was denied due to “time in service” despite being well below the mileage limit (only 75k miles). This is a serious safety concern that may result in sudden engine failure. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Hyundai's denial and handling of such cases INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My 2013 Hyundai Veloster (VIN: [XXX] ) has the known P1326 fault related to the Theta II engine defect. Despite a rod bearing test that passed, the engine now requires replacement, confirmed by the dealer, who quoted me $8,494. Hyundai refuses to assist, even though I am under the 150,000-mile extended warranty. This is a safety risk and fits the class-action defect criteria. I was driving my vehicle and it began severely misfiring and stalled on me. I took it to the dealer and found there was damage to cylinder number 2 engine balance. After research I found there are many claims and complaints due to this type of issue. The likely cause is preignition caused by what Hyundai calls bad software. I recently purchase the vehicle and they say it was updated in July of 2024 and will not repair my vehicle as they say because of its age and mileage. That being said I’m at 120k mileage and work in the auto industry…. They is nothing that could cause valve burn outside of the known ignition issue with these cars. I have no problem paying for repairs due to my cause issues or normal wear and tear but a melted valve is caused by the know issues on these cars. I am looking for help working with Hyundai to get this issue fixed.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle started to shake. The contact stated that after shifting into gear the vehicle became difficult to drive. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the vehicle was diagnosed with a passenger’s air bag fault. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 172,000.

On October 17, 2024, owner was leaving Denver, CO on the highway and had to stop for traffic and vehicle wouldn't move. Was in drive but vehicle would not drive and pulled to side of road. Had insurance tow to nearest Hyundai dealership. Check engine light was on and dealership checked vehicle and needed to have the crankshaft position sensor replaced. Fixed the problem thank God and I was on my road shortly there after. My Veloster is 2013 with 47,000 miles at time of incident.
A connecting rod bearing failed in the engine leading to catastrophic engine failure with the connecting rod breaking through the wall of the engine block causing a hole and undriveable vehicle. According to my research, this issue has been recalled in adjacent model years (2015-2016) but not in my model year (2013) that has the same engine. This issue has already been confirmed in these engines, but Hyundai states my car is not included in the recall. This was a safety risk because the engine failure breached the engine wall which could have ignited engine oil and caused a fire. The engine may have also failed at a critical driving moment when acceleration was needed and stranded the car in an unsafe position. Yes, the problem was reproduced at the dealer's service center because the failure occurred while they were test driving my vehicle. Since the service center tech was the one driving the car when the incident occured, I do not know if there was a fire or not and the speed they were traveling, etc. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer service center and confirmed that this is the issue that caused the problem. The dealer even suspected this was going to happen as they had foreknowledge of the issue occurring on other vehicles that had already been recalled for this issue. The only prior warning of this issue is that I had some misfires on the engine a few days before which is what prompted me to bring it in for service. The misfires temporarily illuminated the "check engine" light but then the light went back out again. I had no idea this minor issue would result in such a severe, catastrophic failure.
One night I was driving on the highway and my check engine light came on. At first I thought it was weird because I had just gotten the car from a dealership three weeks prior. I pulled into a gas station and checked my oil which was low so I added some oil that I had bought. As I was driving home the car suddenly developed a tick and started to lose power. The turbo stopped working. I was pretty concerned about this so the next morning I decided to top off the oil and I decided to take the car into a shop. The first shop heard the engine knock and told me that my crankshaft might be going bad but I wanted a second opinion so I took it to a trusted shop who heard the engine knock and told me the engine would need to be replaced. I called the warranty company and they inspected it at the shop and said the engine would need to be torn down for diagnosis. I had to agree to pay for the shop to tear down the engine if it would not be covered. The shop found metal shavings in the oil pan. Once the engine was apart, they said that the rod bearing was bad. The car and engine are available for inspection.
Car hit 100k miles engine is knocking and mechanic says engine is blown. Researched the issue and found many other people having same issue. Hyundai issued a recall for this year's veloster but is saying my car does not fall under the category even though it is one of the issued problems with vehicle
Vehicle is burning through oil without having oil light engaged. Vehicle is going through two quart + of oil every 3 weeks. Just added 2 quarts of oil 3 weeks ago when the car would not accelerate past 5mph and rough idled (this turned out to be caused by a different issue still being diagnosed), I added the oil as dip stick showed no oil on the stick. Light did not come on. Took to independent mechanic this week who stated I had no oil in the vehicle. Can not go 3 month/3000 miles for an oil change or the engine would be damaged. Have taken the vehicle several times to Valvoline who indicate no oil with no oil pressure light on, each time. This has been constant for 2 years. Each mechanic shop states the GDI engines are burning through oil. No oil leaks have been detected. This issue could result in serious engine damage.
First the turbo stopped working n smoking. Took it to the dealer n they had it for a month.. Get it back one day later had to have it towed . Vehicle was there for another 2 weeks got it back and it started to smoke. I pressed on the gas pedal n the car wouldn’t move! The first time the turbo was supposed to be replaced I believe ever since it was sent there to be replaced it was never the same. I still have the car and it will not start. The turbo n engine are filled with oils .
Abs component and or fuse is causing pre ignition in the motor thus causing abnormal rpm’s when idling or driving thus further causing damage to the vehicle itself
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming 3 quarts of oil every 3,500 miles. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, she heard an abnormal sound and pulled to the side of the road. The contact stated that upon inspecting the engine oil level, there was no oil on the dipstick. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light failed to illuminate. The contact then pulled into the nearest gas station, where oil was added to the engine. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light had failed to illuminate while the engine oil level was low on several occasions. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the low oil pressure warning was designed to illuminate when the oil level was 2 quarts low; however, the contact stated that the warning light had failed to illuminate. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for an oil consumption test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Unknown but it threw the abs light on and off and then the oil change light come on and it stared ticking after it shut off and then I turned it on and the ticking got worse and louder and steering was cliking so I parked it and it would not go over 20 mph or pull a hill so It’s been parked ever since
Purchased the vehicle and a few weeks late received a recall letter (23V651000) about their ABS issue. They never did send us the recall letter regarding the known engine issue. Months later the engine completely seized up. We took it to a mechanic who told us to call Hyudai since the engine was well beyond repair. We called the Hyudai dealership in town and they explicitly told us their were NO ACTIVE RECALLS for this car. After finding out a replacement engine would cost over $10k we had no other option but to salvage the vehicle. Fast forward about a month and we received recall letter (service campaign 966) about a recall active since MARCH 2021 regarding engine sensor malfunction that could result in total engine loss if not addressed. Hyundai is refusing to take responsibility for not informing us about this recall during few months we owned the car. They also are not taking responsibility at the dealership level for telling us there were no active recalls (there are TWO active recalls that were present when we called.) Is there anything that NHTSA will or can help with regarding this issue. Hyundai very clearly dropped the ball on this issue and are refusing to be helpful or take responsibility. This could have been a VERY dangerous situation if the car was driving at speed - luckily the engine broke down when pulling out of the driveway...
Hi
I was on my way to school when my car started making some weird noises. Suddenly my car made a large explosion noise, my engine light turned on, then off, and then on again. my heads up display light started flickering sort of and then oil and battery light came on. my car then SHUT OFF while driving on the FREEWAY. power steering stopped leaving me able to turn the wheel but it being very difficult. my gas pedal not doing anything. I had to coast to an exit and pull over. I had it towed to a place my grandpa really trusts. this was 3 days ago. today I got a call saying that the engine had a 3 inch hole in the block facing the radiator. and was quoted a repair price of more than I had paid for the car. and to make matters worse the accident happened the day before I was going to meet with a buyer and sell it.
1. 2013 Veloster 1.6 turbo motor fire. Motor blew and fire burned everything.Inspection is time framed as I was sent lein and storage fees. In was asset and not one as far as insurance or Gap giving me the run around. my family ,myself and those near grocery store potentially could of gotten hurt. Had no warning at all on dashboard. I loved my car sad to honestly say scared to drive a Hyundai ever again. Only a adjuster came out actually can't even say she did . Wanted picture and Vin from me said she was hired as third party and never heard from her again . Fire dept . Just put fire out. Police said since I was legally parked no need if report. Which I thaught was wierd .
While driving on the highway at roughly 50 MPH there was a violent shake and sudden loss of engine power. Driver had to immediately pull off of the roadway. The oil light came on. Car was unable to drive and was towed to local mechanic. Catastrophic engine damage due to a connecting rod failure was reported as the cause. This occurred at a mileage of 148,306.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and was unable to exceed 40 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 126,000.

I own a 2013 Hyundai Veloster in 2019 a recall was issued for engine management component recall number 182. In 2018 my engine was blown because of the engine management component how could I know this if the recall was an issue till 2019 the next year I took the car to Hyundai they said they're not responsible for the blown engine this car has 50,000 miles on it Hyundai is supposed to repair any car up to $100,000 me in 10 year warranty they refused to fix it engine gets hot heats up I'm scared of a fire Hyundai does not want to be responsible for this car what do I do to fix this problem it's not safe to be on the road but I need to drive my car please help me this is not the first time I contact nhtsa
On 8/2123 my son had left school, once on the major road his car would not accelerate. As he was turning, at a light, to get off the major road his car went limp and could barely move. An on coming car just missed him. I opened a claim with hyundai because they have a open case with their engines. They verified that the car is on the list for the extended warranty of the engine. Towed the car to a dealership and based off their diagnostic they say it's not the rod bearings it could be the camshaft or crankshaft and therefore the car is not qualified for the extended warranty. It is clear that they are covering themselves to not replace my engine. My son almost got into a major accident due to their faulty engine.
Unknown. I was driving my car home after work and basically the engine blew a piston out of the side of the engine while going 20mph, was just driving normally them a loud boom sounded like I hit a pothole or something but their where no objects in the road. And in my review I seen a trail of oil and one the car stopped all the oil was dripping from the underneath the car. The car had been sending a check engine light/coil misfire. And from what I know the recall is for some type of misfire code. I got no help from the dealer as to why my engine blew up other than it was my fault I lost the car in a accident and don’t have it anymore but I put in 7,000-10,000 on a turbo system and refurbished engine. And I strongly believe it has something to do with the recall at hand But I had no choice at the time and the recall didn’t come to me till after I lost the car.
I've been going through this with Hyundai for over a year I own a 2013 Hyundai Veloster with 52000 me this car in 2019 had an engine management component recall my engine blew as in the heads blew the oil and the water and cooling are mixing
The engine is burning oil after couple days of change engine oil. The oil engine light will flash after a week or two after changing the oil. Thank you

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the camshaft and timing belt was faulty. The vehicle was not yet repaired. Additionally, the contact stated the front passenger’s side wheel was shaking and vibrating abnormally while driving, the hood release latch was unsecure, and the passenger’s side door handle had detached. The contact stated that the windows would randomly roll up and down without input from the driver. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 127,000. The VIN was not available.

Unknown. Yesterday May, 19th we were driving when the check engine light started flashing, the car started runing rough, misfiring, and there was a burning smell. On top of that our car has been burning too much oil and gass. As of right now we have an appt to have it towed to, and have it serviced at our local Hyundai dealership in Racine, Wi for our 2013 Veloster turbo. Our issue is that there is a recall on later models for engine failures, for the very same symptoms, but not ours for some reason.
On 9/27/2022, I wrote a letter to the NHTSA (which was published in a PDF) outlining the reasons why all Veloster's (2011-2014) equipped with 1.6 L GDI engines are having Detonation And Catastrophic Failures. To sum it up, the real reason is the compression ratio is "much higher" than recommended for use with Regular 87 Octane Fuel. The compression ratio in the Base Model is: 11:1 and the Turbo Equipped Model is: 10:1. A compression ratio of 11:1 is "boarder line" for 105 Octane Race Fuel. The 11:1 compression ratio creates a Higher Combustion Chamber Temperature, which ignites the fuel air mixture before the Piston Reaches TDC. This causes excessive pressure on the Pistons and Rods, because the cylinder is firing while the Piston Is In It's Upward Travel. While even though the compression ratio is lower for the Turbo Model, the Turbo Boost creates a higher cylinder pressure. That higher cylinder pressure combined with the detonation issues caused by the Low Octane Fuel, creates excessive pressure on the Pistons And Connecting Rods. This is what is causing these engines to fail! Hyundai has since installed a Dual CVVT Phase Regulator which lowers the Compression (by bleeding off Cylinder pressure) when the Knock Sensor detects Detonation. This is on all replacement GDI Engines. Many of the Hyundai And Kia Models use these same engines. Many of those models have already been recalled, but due to "Under Performing Sales" ours have not. The Veloster did not really "take off" until 2015. That's why the 2015-2016 Models (with the same engine) have Engine Recalls. If you have heard a Continuous Engine Knock your Engine already has Internal Engine Damage, but everyone who owns one of these Veloster's (that is still in running condition) should Immediately switch to Premium Fuel. Premium Fuel will help Prevent Detonation, And Temporarily Prevent Engine Failure. All of these Engines need to be Immediately Recalled, to provide for The Safety Of Our Family And Ourselves!
Engine consumes a quart of oil every 1-2 weeks. Burning through oil like crazy in-between oil changes, feels sluggish on low gears, stalls, rattling noise. Mass oil consumption damages rods causing other engine issues such as punctures in n engine block.
I was on the freeway and the car stalled almost causing a major accident took the shop they said I need to replace engine coils and spark plug’s replaced and in a few weeks on the freeway on the way to work it stalled again took back to the shop they checked my spark plugs and engine coils they were burnt and black they said engine failure cylinder 2 it’s been in shop 6 times now they say I need a engine
Due to Recall 182. I was driving and without warning my car slowed down to 40 mph from 70 mph and thecheck engine came on. I had the car towed to Midas who informed me of a recall that had caused a pressure build up in the piston which caused the engine to fail. The rate at which the car slowed was unbelievable and almost caused the car behind me to rear-end my car. The dealership refuses to fix the car stating that it is not under warranty. The engine failure happened at 86,000 miles. I got to drive this car for all of 3 months and it has been at the dealership for 5 months.
The engine in these vehicles is well-known for rod bearing failure taking out the entire engine, there is also a recall that states it can cause engine damage. Hyundai has recalled these engines for all years but 2013, and has left these owners out to dry. Dealers are quoting $15,000 to put in a USED engine with no guarantee it will not have the same problem. Hyundai of America refuses to help and tries to escape culpability because they voided the 100,000 mile warranty as I'm not the original ownew who also had a supplementary warranty. Engine failure has the obvious risk of a major safety issue, a dealer verifies the engine is in need of replacement, the engine has failed with no warning.
My engine recently started making knocking noise from the bottom of the block, very indicative of rod bearing knock. This is extremely common with my model year and Hyundai covers this issue with other vehicles my model year. When I contacted both Hyundai and the dealer they told me my vin did not have the coverage of an engine replacement. My car has the same engine as all the others that have this issue and I have seen others get their engine replaced. The dealer told me an engine replacement would cost me 3x the price of the car.
A recall was issued 2019 for engine management control I own the car my sister-in-law bought the car in 2016 it is a 2013 Hyundai Veloster in 2018 the engine blew with 52,000 miles on it the car still sits in front of my house able to start with a blown engine Hyundai refused to fix the issue the engine blew due to the engine management control the car was sitting at Hyundai for about 6 months and they decided to have me pick it up and didn't want to fix anything they also lost my key fob and had to replace that I would like my engine fixed in my Hyundai free of charge I don't think I should fix an engine that has been blown at 52,000 miles with a recall part that made the engine blow please help me with this issue [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
UNKNOWN I'm not sure, I'm only scared what happens if this recalls isn't fixed sooner than expected so I can avoid unexpected issues or expensive repairs...
Engine failed driving down the highway, rod broke witch put a large hole in the engine.
I was driving back home from work. When I began to notice a knocking sound coming from my engine. The car suddenly began to shake and stall, not allowing me to accelerate properly. Right after that the car completely shut off and I had to push it to the side of the road. About a month later I received a notice from Hyundai in which they stated the vehicle had a recall due to failing connecting rod bearing. I contacted my mechanic on what this may caused, and without me going into full detail about my incident he mentioned everything that I went through. I then schedule an appointment at my local Hyundai delearship for the KSDS install, and hoping for a fix under the warranty guidelines given in the notice. Today I received a message notifying me that they would not be fixing the car under the recall notice.
There is an open recall for my 2013 Veloster turbo 1.6 turbo engine code 182 from Hyundai. But it’s not showing under my VIN. My car have exact problems that is described in the recall. “ Engine damage can increase the risk of a fire or cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.” so I went to the dealership but they said they won’t help me with the recall and they can fix my car but they are going to charge me.
Engine stall due to the recall

Our car is 9 years old with only 50,636 miles. We are the second owner. The engine started making noise (no warning lights) so we took it to the dealer. They’ve diagnosed damage in cylinder 1 and need to replace the head gasket and cylinder head assembly valve spring seat. I’ve been told by the Hyundai mechanics that this issues sounds very much like the issue that resulted in the recall of 2013/2014 Hyundai Sonata and Santa Fe’s. The dealership submitted a warranty request on my behalf despite the fact that the car is beyond the years covered by the warranty. I was told by the dealership that Hyundai knows about this issue with other models not covered by the recall and commonly will replace the engine of other vehicles even despite they’re outside of warranty within reason. I was hopeful but my warranty request was denied. Now I’m looking at over $10,000 in repairs which makes my car close to a complete loss. A couple months prior to the issue we receive a Hyundai notification that was something like we need to install a sensor in the engine that will alert you at the earliest signs of engine trouble. I had just donated a kidney and not in any condition to take the car in for this so that has not been done but what it tells me is that Hyundai knew of issues enough to install a sensor to detect these types of issues early before major damage. Note this was not a recall.
My engine burns oil. There is no leakage on the ground. I check the oil once a week and have to add 2 1/2 quarts of oil or more every time i check it. My safety is at risk because if I miss one week of checking the oil level and forget to add oil, my engine is going to seize while driving and possible kill me or other drivers. Oil lamp has been on and i've been refilling the oil weekly for approximately one month. Tire company -Midas tires- changed my tires but did not perform an inspection. They informed me of a government recall for a dangerous engine issue that Hyundai will not acknowledge nor fix.

The contact related the engine failure to an open recall on her vehicle for NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V204000 (Electrical System, Engine). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

So the vehicle wants to hesitate and buck violently to the point of nearly stalling out while accelerating and prevents the car from being able to merge into highway traffic in a safe manner and the surrounding years make and model are all on a recall due to a E.C.U. required update for a necessary reflashing for the ability to be use the automobile in the way it's designer/designers can make make want h. The severity and frequency of the problems are embarrassing and frustrating to be scared of risking my life being injured in a stalled/stalling vehicle without a power supply to navigate
Unknown Premature engine failure on well maintained vehicle. Engine is known for failures but the particular model of vehicle is not under recall. Dealership wants an unreasonable amount to replace with used engine (13'000$ twice the value of the car in working order)
I received a recall for an engine knock sensor. Took the car to the dealer only to be told if they do the knock sensor recall it will put the car in an unusable condition. The car has 158k miles and has check engine light on and the engine is knocking. After researching this model, I saw a lot of people with the same issue. The dealer said the motor has to be replaced! It is aparently a manufacturer defect. The car has been properly maintained and is now unusable. This is totally unacceptable. The manufacturer should be liable for selling a defective product. Engine will basically explode with fire a real possibility.
Engine was producing a ticking noise for about half a day before the check engine light came on. The check engine light was on for one day before I noticed the vehicle starting to stall out. The engine caught on fire after stalling out.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil without warning. The contact also stated that the vehicle would stall without warning while at a complete stop. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer where the ignition switch was repaired under warranty; however, the oil consumption failure persisted. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Since I got the car in 2015 I have been taking it to the Hyundai dealership for all maintenance. I kept telling them that it feels like it’s driving hesitant or pushed to go. I took my car in for a routine oil change and my car came back not running. They said my car needed an update. They did so without my permission. Then was told I needed a new transmission. A month later I’m driving down the road my car was on but not driving like it would not go. I had to get it towed. They said it was the cat converter. Well the car was still was having the same issue after that was fixed. I was driving down I-4 to go to the dr and my car suddenly slowed down and would not go I couldn’t get over and was almost rear ended. I took it back to Hyundai. They said it was a knock sensor. Fixed it. Was coming from Orlando 24 hours later and the car slowed down on its own again with a big semi behind me and my daughter was in the car. Hyundai refuses to fix the engine that’s a GDI that is recalled in the turbo Veloster because mine is base model. I also have a 2015 Hyundai Elantra hatch back that shows the same signs as my Veloster they both have GDI engines. Please feel free to contact me at [XXX] or [XXX]. And this has been doing this since before my mileage was high and it was below 60,000. I do have copies of all maintenance that was done at the dealership. If you have and email I can forward all invoice. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My engine have a detonation and melted a spark plug and lost compression in this cylinder, the car not run
Driving on the interstate back from work going 60+ mph. The Vehicle TURNS OFF AND I LOST POWER, my RPMS DROPPED TO 0 and it was no longer accelerating. It’s AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I had to cruise my way off to the side and get my car towed to a shop. THIS COULD HAVE KILLED ME
The contact owns 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated while driving. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where they replaced the spark plugs; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they discovered that there was a leak in the turbocharger. The dealer acknowledge that the leak was a known issue with the model vehicle and informed him that they would submit a claim to the manufacturer to cover the cost of the repair. The contact was later informed that the manufacturer had denied the claim. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

I purchased this car in September 2020 from a dealership and had no knowledge that there was an open recall on the vehicle. My son was driving the car home from school when in what he describes as the car losing all power with a rumbling noise. Smoke began coming from under the hood. He immediately pulled over. He was at a red light and had reached about 35 mph when the engine failed. He immediately pulled over about 200 to 300 feet from where he was had accelerated from at the red light. The vehicle was towed to the Hyundai dealership. After inspection it was reported that the open recall campaign was addressed on the vehicle however the damage caused by the recall was not fixed by the dealership. The dealership gave a quote of $9100 to replace the engine which through a rod through the engine block, a new starter, a new intake manifold and a new turbo. The dealership advised that they would only address the computer software update to address the pre ignition issue that leads to engine failure or fire but would not fix the damage caused by the recall. This is very unfortunate that automakers can build cars that they issue recalls on and only be responsible for fixing the recall and not the damage caused due to the recall. I should have never been sold a car with an open recall that was not addressed before purchase. My sons life was put at risk as well as other motorist. He broke down on an extremely busy highway. Highway 501 in Conway South Carolina. The car began smoking and could have caught fire. I am floored that a country like ours does not place more accountability on automakers and dealerships.
Connecting rod failure. A test was ran on my car and this code came up even though my check engine light was off. There is a rattling when accelerating and a decrease in speed when accelerating. The rattling began a little less than a year ago so I took it to a shop but they said it couldn’t be fixed because the engine is enclosed. Basically to fix this issue I would need an entire new engine and it is already causing major issues on my vehicle. This is a safety issue because the engine could just fail.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 20-25 mph, he heard an abnormally loud sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle started to shake with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated her husband was able to pull to the side of the road, where he noticed that smoke was coming from under the hood. Additionally, there was oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a large hole in the cylinder block. The fire was started due to a mixture of fuel and oil. The contact was informed by the mechanic that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 19V204000 (Electrical System, Engine) however, the recall repair was already completed on the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was not related to the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that she was responsible for the cost of repair since the vehicle was out of warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 69,204.

Electrical issues & engine issues. 2013 Hyundai Veloster. - purchased brand new and September 2013. CENTEREACH HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. Since day one I’ve had many issues. So I’m having multiple repairs and replacement of AC /Heat blower, switches, Resistors,-Blower head unit, radio,Control head ( Internally shorting.Recall #948 ( canister cracked).report to dealer sells of exhaust coming in car. Also had replaced Right rear door actuator. July 2018 complained of transmission slipping not going into gear pulling back etc. Dealer claims no trouble calls. Once again I am having the same issues. This time driver side window goes down by itself and will not stay up, I have to manually open passenger side door lock and once again the blower does not work. Lights on my dash all lit oil light had been flickering, tire pressure light stays on and airbag light is lit. Just recently I have been driving in the car and had thought in the middle of driving that the transmission had went the car mediately pulled back and did not move I was lucky enough to have guided it over to the side of the road. NHTSA # 19V204000 ( Hyundai recall #182) 2013 Hyundai Veloster - although it states four”TURBO ENGINE” only I am having the same exact problems. Let’s not wait until the engine goes on fire or causes a serious accident ! I am more than concerned and worried about this for I have no other transportation. I have contacted Hyundai customer care service. Both emailed and called. Hyundai Consumer Affairs # 18383206. I had also been advised over the phone(which I am was not aware of) another recall #966 - Involving a Hyundai Veloster’s 2012 -2017, as per rep. She set up an appointment with the dealership in which I go to, and also purchased the car, I asked her to please forward me a copy of the email and what she sent to the dealership, in which I am still waiting. I’m hoping the dealership Will take this more seriously coming from the manufacture. I Will advise outcome. Thank you
I have had to replace the turbo and radiator. I have replaced the coil packs and spark plugs 3 times since I received the car and now the transmission is acting up. I bought the car Dec 2020 and it has left me stranded on the side of the road 4 times already from the engine malfunctioning.
Hyundai denied my claim for reimbursement for an engine issue. They stated that the VIN is not included in the recall. However, my mechanic is the one who bought the issue to my attention. He believes this recall should also apply to this vehicle. He said he is willing to discuss the repair with any interested parties. My mechanic is Auto Accents located in Lakewood NJ. His name is Nick and he can be reached at 732-905-5088. I only ask that review the attached receipt, speak with my mechanic, and consider adding this VIN to the recall.
On five separate occasions the vehicle engine has shut off completely while driving in traffic. Fortunately my wife was able to coast to the side of the road, but in all instances a serious road hazard and danger to safety for both us as well as the public was created. We are now no longer driving the vehicle out of fear of our safety. We have contacted the Hyundai dealership where all the prior 4+ years of service has been done, as well as Hyundai USA. Both have said they will not investigate. After the first two occurrences, I was told the original engine needed to be replaced due to metal shavings in the internal components. This is the exact same reason for the recent global recall, however Hyundai said our model was not covered under the warranty even though it was the same issue. We had the Hyundai Dealership replace the engine and within one month it happened again. This time they said the catalytic converter/exhaust manifold had failed again (this was the third catalytic converter). Since then, the engine has shut off two more times while driving. A local certified mechanic has inspected it and said he has seen several similar problems with other Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai USA refuses to address the issue.
WHILE DRIVING AT 65+ MPH ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER. I PULLED OVER AND ALL LIGHTS ON CLUSTER POPPED ON AT THE SAME TIME (CHECK ENGINE, LOW OIL, LOW TIRE PRESSURE, LOW BATTERY, ETC), AND THEN LIGHTS TURNED OFF. THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES WHEN READ WITH A OBD SCANNER. CAR STILL RAN, BUT WOULD NOT MOVE, ALL POWER WAS LOST. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD CLOGGED, AND FOR SOME REASON DID NOT THROW AN ERROR CODE. THIS HAPPENED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH NO WARNING, AND COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS IF I HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO PULL OVER.

HELLO, I BELIEVE THERE IS AN UNDERLYING ISSUE WITH THE VELOSTER 2013 THAT HYUNDAI HAS NOT ADDRESSED PROPERLY WITH THEIR SERVICE CAMPAIGN. I HAD RECEIVED THE SERVICE AROUND 06/01/19 (I AM NOT SURE EXACTLY WHEN) AND A YEAR LATER HAVE HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS THIS SERVICE WAS SUPPOSED TO ADDRESS. I HAVE HAD ENGINE STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET NEAR USC ON A BUSY INTERSECTION AND HAD TO MOVE THE CAR BY FOOT IN FEAR OF GETTING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. I'VE ALSO HAD ENGINE POWER ISSUES THAT SEEM TO HAVE PERSISTED. WHEN THIS HAPPENED I TOOK IT INTO A MECHANIC TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE, THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS A BAD COIL PACK FOR WHICH THEY DID A TUNE UP (SPARK PLUGS, COIL PACKS, OIL FILTER). SHORTLY AFTER THE TUNE-UP I HAD PROBLEMS OF THE SAME MISFIRING ISSUE WHERE THERE WOULD BE NO POWER TO THE ENGINE AND A SLIGHT KNOCKING NOISE. I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO HUNDAI KEYES MISSION HILLS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THIS TIME AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING, BAD COIL PACK. THERE HAVE BEEN KNOWN ENGINE FAILURES DUE TO THE ECU, AND HAVE READ MANY ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ECU. I ALSO BELIEVE THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSED MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO FAIL PREMATURELY AS THE MISFIRES WOULD SEND UNBURNED FUEL INTO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I INITIALLY GOT IN CONTACT WITH A SERVICE MANAGER AT HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS ON FEB 15TH AND HE HAS FINALLY CALLED ME TODAY 03/15/19 AFTER WEEKS OF TRYING TO GET UPDATES. THE SUPERVISOR HAS DEEMED THAT THIS WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT EVEN AFTER EXPRESSING MY CONCERNS THAT THERE MIGHT BE AN UNDERLYING ISSUE THAT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED BY THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM FOR OTHER VELOSTER OWNERS. AND I FEAR THAT MY ENGINE WILL FAIL IN THE FUTURE. HERE IS THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN. REPORT RECEIPT DATE: MAR 14, 2019 NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 19V204000

THE ENGINE RODS ARE KNOCKING, EVEN THOUGH I'VE KEPT OIL IN THE CAR. AND HAD REGULAR OIL CHANGES. THE ENGINE OIL ALWAYS HAS TO BE FILLED AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS EVENTHOUGH THERE IS NO OIL LEAKS. NOW THE MOTOR HAS TO BE REPLACED. THERE ARE MULTIPLE RECALLS ON THE SAME THING FOR THIS CAR JUST NOT ON MINE SPECIFICALLY. NOTICED IT TODAY WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON AND HEARD THE KNOCKING NOISE. MY 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER WAS UNDER A RECALL IN JUNE LAST YEAR FOR AN ENGINE PROBLEM THAT COULD RESULT, IF NOT FIXED, IN SERIOUS ENGINE FAILURE AND DAMAGE WHILE OPERATING. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT ON 9/10/20 WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 26 NEAR COLUMBIA, SC, THE CAR'S SPEED SUDDENLY DROPPED TO NO MORE THAN ABOUT 40 MPH AND WOULDN'T GO ANY FASTER. THAT PUT ME IN EXTREME DANGER OF GETTING STRUCK FROM THE REAR BY OTHER FASTER-MOVING VEHICLES, SO I RODE THE NEXT APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES ON INTERSTATE SHOULDERS TO AVOID DANGER. I WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR THAT DAY TO A REPAIR SHOP IN COLUMBIA, WHICH DETERMINED THAT MY CAR SUSTAINED SERIOUS ENGINE FAILURE AND DAMAGE, AND BELIEVED IT WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE 2019 RECALL, ATTACHING A RECALL NOTICE TO THE REPAIR INVOICE. I CALLED MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP BUT WAS INFORMED MY CAR WAS NOT PRESENTLY UNDER RECALL. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THE DEALERSHIP EITHER DIDN'T DO THE 2019 REPAIR AT ALL OR IMPROPERLY DID IT, OR MORE SERIOUSLY FOR THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER DRIVERS NATIONWIDE OF SIMILAR HYUNDAI VELOSTERS, THE SOFTWARE FIX OFFERED BY HYUNDAI WAS NOT ADEQUATE, PUTTING THEIR LIVES IN DANGER IF THEIR ENGINES SUFFER SERIOUS ENGINE FAILURE AND DAMAGE WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. IN MY CASE, BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS RUINED, I SOLD THE CAR TO A LOCAL JUNKYARD. I'VE ATTACHED DOCUMENTATION VERIFYING EVERYTHING I'VE WRITTEN. THE 2019 DOCUMENTATION IS UNDER MY WIFE'S NAME; MY NAME IS ON THE LATEST RECORDS. *TR

MY CAR IS UNDER OPEN RECALL WITH HYUNDAI COMPAIGN # RECALL 182 OR NHTSA RECALL #19V204000 . I HAVE ENGINE DAMAGE IN CYLINDER NUMBER 2 WHICH IS DUE TO THE MIX OF AIR AND FUEL AND HYUNDAI REFUSE TO COVER MY ENGINE UNDER THIS RECALL EVEN THEY PUT SAFETY RISK OF THIS RECALL IS :ENGINE DAMAGE CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A FIRE OR CAUSE AN ENGINE STALL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. SO HYUNDAI WANT TO DO ONLY SOFTWARE UPDATE TO PREVENT THE SAFETY RISK BUT IT IS TO LATE FOR MY CASE SINCE THE RISK OR THE DAMAGE IS ALREADY HAPPENED TO MY CAR AND THEY REFUSE TO COVER THE BAD ENGINE THAT I HAVE NOW . NOTE: THE MILEAGE OF MY CAR IS 42000 MILES. THAT IS THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE HYUNDAI FOR THIS RECALL. HTTPS://AUTOSERVICE.HYUNDAIUSA.COM/CAMPAIGNHOME/CAMPAIGN/INDEX.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER. DEALER INSPECTED AND FOUND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS PLUGGED AGAIN. THE PREVIOUS FAILURE (SEPARATE REPORT) IN JUNE 2019 CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE HAD A NEW SHORT BLOCK INSTALLED ALONG WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. WITH 9000 MILES ON THE NEW SHORT BLOCK AND CAT, THE CAT IS PLUGGED AGAIN AND THE ENGINE HAS A DISTINCTIVE TICKING SOUND THAT WAS PRESENT WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED THE LAST TIME. HYUNDAI HAS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE VEHICLE IS SERVICED AT RECOMMENDED INTERVALS OR BEFORE. WE USE STANDARD GASOLINE WITH NO AFTERMARKET ADDITIVES.

TO MAKE A VERY LONG STORY SHORT, I HAD TO GET MY ENGINE REPLACED IN LATE 2017 DUE TO THE ENGINE THROWING A ROD. IT TOOK 3 MONTHS TO REPAIR BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS BEHIND DUE TO OTHER PEOPLE HAVING ENGINE MALFUNCTIONS. AFTER MY HUSBAND DROVE MY CAR OFF THE LOT, MY CAR WAS SOUNDING A LITTLE FUNNY, ALMOST LIKE A SUCKING NOSE THAT WE ENDED UP HAVING TO TAKE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THAT I NEEDED TO PAY A DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS WELL UNDER WARRANTY LIMIT. I ENDED UP SPEAKING WITH THE MANAGER AND HE HAD THE TECHNICIAN LOOK AT IT TO ONLY BE TOLD IT WAS NOTHING ENGINE RELATED EVEN THOUGH MY ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON! A FEW MONTHS AFTER THAT, MY CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AND WAS INOPERABLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I NEEDED ANOTHER ENGINE REPLACEMENT DUE TO LOW PRESSURE IN ONE CYLINDER! THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY SINCE THEY ALREADY TOOK CARE OF IT THE FIRST TIME. WE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THROUGH OUR ADVISOR AT THE SERVICE CENTER DEALERSHIP THAT SHE HAS AN EMAIL STATING THAT FAULTY PARTS WERE USED DURING THE FIRST ENGINE 'REPAIR'. ME AND MY HUSBAND HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE IT WAS NOT DRIVE-ABLE AND THEY ENDED UP SELLING THE VEHICLE AT AUCTION FOR $1700 IN FEBRUARY 2019. DURING THE SAME MONTH A RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A RECALL NUMBER AND HAVE SPOKE TO 3 DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO TO RESOLVE THE BALANCE I HAVE LEFT TO PAY ON THE CAR OF $8710. I KNEW THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE LAST FEW TIMES I'VE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THERE WERE A LOT OF VEHICLES NEEDING ENGINE REPLACEMENTS. THIS HAS BEEN FRUSTRATING TO DEAL WITH THE PAST FEW YEARS AND IT'S AFFECTING MY CREDIT AND I NEED IT RESOLVED ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS WAS NOT OUR FAULTS AND WE WERE DENIED THE USE OF THE WARRANTY WE WERE PAYING FOR.

I KNEW THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE LAST FEW TIMES I'VE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THERE WERE A LOT OF VEHICLES NEEDING ENGINE REPLACEMENTS. THIS HAS BEEN FRUSTRATING TO DEAL WITH. *TR

2013 VELOSTER NON TURBO, STALLS WHILE DRIVING. WHEN STARTING VEHICLE, SHIFTER MOVES BUT TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE. CAR MUST BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED AFTER A SHORT PERIOD AND CAR WILL GO INTO GEAR. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SPORADIC, THE VEHICLE IS UNRELIABLE AND THE STALLING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. A SIMILAR STALLING ISSUE RECALL FOR THE 2013 VELOSTER TURBO MODEL WAS ISSUED IN 2019. THIS MAY BE A SIMILAR ISSUE AND SHOULD BE EXTENDED FOR ALL 2013 VELOSTER MODELS. DEALERSHIP HAS CHECKED THE VEHICLE AN HAS STATED THAT NO CODES WERE FOUND IN THE HISTORY SO THEY COULD NOT RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. *TR

I HAVE A 2013, HYUNDAI VELOSTER. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN A LOUD BANGING NOISE STARTED AND THE CAR STARTED TO TURN OFF WITH ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING. I COULD HEAR SOMETHING BANGING AROUND INSIDE THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND THEN THE BLACK SMOKE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD/EXHAUST SYSTEM. I WAS ABLE TO PULL CAR OFF OF ROAD AND HAVE IT TOWED TO HYUNDAI WORLDCAR IN LIVE OAK TX. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $5000 FOR A USED ENGINE AND THAT QUOTE INCLUDES THE LABOR COST. HYUNDAI ALSO CONTACTED AND I REPORTED INCIDENT (DEALERSHIP DID NOT CONTACT HYUNDAI TO REPORT) WITH CASE # 16766796. MY CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 126,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD NO INDICATIONS OF ANYTHING WRONG. IT WAS A TERRIFYING SITUATION AND SO UNEXPECTED, PLUS I HAD ALSO JUST MADE MY LAST CAR PAYMENT, SO NOW I OWN A CAR WITH NO WORKING ENGINE AND I AM BEING MADE TO PAY FOR IT EVEN THOUGH WORLDCAR ADVERTISES A LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, I AM THE ONLY OWNER FOR THE VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED. OIL LIGHT FLICKERED ON AND ENGINE MADE LOUD KNOCKING NOISES. TOWED CAR HOME. ENGINE MAKES KNOCKING NOISE UPON ACCELERATION AND OIL LIGHT FLICKERS ON. TOWED TO TWO DIFFERENT SHOPS WAS TOLD THERE WAS BOTTOM ENGINE DAMAGE. ENGINE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. QUOTED $5000. MILEAGE 122,000. OIL WAS FULL. IT IS NOT ONLY THE TURBO ENGINES HAVING THIS PROBLEM. CLEARLY THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

2013 HYUNDAI HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POP ON SO WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI DEALER IN DOUGLAS COUNTY GEORGIA. WE WERE ASKED SOME ROUND ABOUT QUESTIONS THAT MADE US SEEM SUSPICIOUS OF A PRE DIAGNOSIS FOR THE CAR. ONCE SITTING FOR 3 PLUS HOURS WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A CATALYST ISSUE .WE HAD THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER CHANGES JUST LAST FRIDAY. ITS WEDNESDAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN WITH ADDITIONAL SOUNDS COMING FROM THE ENGINE NOW.
I PURCHASED THE CAR ON MARCH 29, 2019 WITH 74,999 MILES ON IT. I DROVE IT FOR APPROXIMATELY 4,100 MILES AND HAD IT SERVICED WITH SYNTHETIC OIL AT THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. MY NEXT SERVICE DATE WAS SET FOR 85,500 MILES. APPROACHING MY NEXT SERVICE DATE, I HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM MY ENGINE AND EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ON A SUBURBAN ROAD, AND HAD TO PULL OFF IMMEDIATELY. IF I HAD BEEN GOING FASTER, OR HAD NOT HAD A SPOT TO PULL OVER IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A WORSE SITUATION. THE CAR HAD 85,570 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. I THEN TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO THE CLOSEST CERTIFIED HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE I FOUND RECALL 182 WAS OPEN ON MY VEHICLE. THIS RECALL DESCRIBES POTENTIAL PRE-IGNITION THAT CAN LEAD TO EXCESSIVE CYLINDER PRESSURE IN THESE ENGINES. WHEN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DIAGNOSED MY VEHICLE, THEY SAID THERE WAS SEVER LOWER ENGINE BEARING DAMAGE LEADING TO ENGINE FAILURE AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON MY ENGINE, I ASSUMED THIS WOULD BE DONE BY THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS NOT DUE TO THE RECALL. EVERY DOCUMENT I SAW DESCRIBING SAFETY RECALL 182 DESCRIBES IT CAUSING PRE-IGNITION AND EXCESSIVE CYLINDER PRESSURE. FROM WHAT I KNOW ABOUT ENGINES AND HAVE RESEARCHED FROM OTHERS, EXCESSIVE CYLINDER PRESSURE CAUSES SHOCK WAVES THAT ARE SEEN TO US AS ENGINE KNOCKING. ENGINE KNOCKING IF LEFT UNCHECKED, CAN CAUSE SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE. I DON'T SEE HOW HYUNDAI CAN MAKE A CLAIM THAT RECALL 182 IS NOT THE DIRECT CAUSE OF MY ENGINE FAILURE. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGE IN THEIR STATEMENT. THEY ARE NOT DOING ENOUGH TO AMMEND THIS RECALL.

MY SON WAS DRIVING HIS CAR WHEN IT LOST ALL POWER AND ENGINE BRAKED. WE HAD IT TOWED TO HYUNDAI WHERE THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. A WEEK LATER THE CAR DID IT AGAIN, THIS TIME ON A BUSY ROAD AND MY SON WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PULL OVER AND NOT GET HIT. THIS TIME HYUNDAI SAID IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. HYUNDAI COVERED THE ENGINE BUT MADE ME PAY ALL THE LABOR. NOT HAPPY, BUT IF IT MAKES THE CAR SAFE AGAIN THEN I DID IT. IT TOOK 6 WEEKS TO GET THE NEW ENGINE. GOT THE CAR BACK, GREAT. 2 MI THIS GO BY AND THE CAR DID IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE CAR STARTED BACK UP. WE DROVE THE CAR TO HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND NO FIX. COULD NOT LET MY CHILD DRIVE THE CAR ANY LONGER (IF THIS HAPPENED ON A FREEWAY GOING 60 MPH HE WOULD BE KILLED). WE GOT RID OF THE CAR THE NEXT DAY. WOULD LOVE THIS TO BE AN OBVIOUS RECALL (LIKE THEIR OTHER ENGINES AND THE TURBO ENGINE IN THIS EXACT CAR). I WOULD LIKE MY $$ BACK!!

I HAVE HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY AND MY MECHANIC HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE CAR WILL NOT RESTART. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND FLASHING SEVERAL CODES. APPEARS TO BE SOME TYPE OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE . THERE IS A RECALL ON CERTAIN MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 1.6 TURBO ENGINE. RECALL NUMBER 182. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION OF THIS RECALL.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED AND WOULD NOT PROPERLY ACCELERATE. AFTER STOPPING AND EXITING THE VEHICLE, FLAMES AND SMOKE WERE PRESENT UNDER THE HOOD COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THERE WERE NO POLICE OR FIRE REPORTS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FAILURE AND FOUND THAT IT WAS COMMON AMONG OTHER VELOSTERS OF THE SAME YEAR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 124,000.

MY DTR'S 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER WENT UP IN FLAMES QUICKLY AFTER STARTING TO SMOKE FROM FRONT OF ENGINE ON 4-14-19. DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE IDEAL AND SHE WAS DRIVING AROUND 65 M/H OR HWY 17, GETTING CLOSE TO 280. WE HAD JUST BOUGHT THE CAR FROM HYUNDAI DEALER IN FREMONT A FEW MONTHS PRIOR.

WHILE GOING AT SLOW ROAD SPEEDS,ON A CITY STREET, IT THREW A ROD WITH NO WARNING. THERE IS ONLY 54,000 MILES ON THE CAR, WE HADN'T EVEN HAD A CHANCE TO TAKE IT IN FOR THE RECALL SOFTWARE CORRECTION, SINCE THEY JUST RECENTLY NOTIFIED US OF THAT. WE HAD NO WARNING SIGNS, AND THE OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED REGULARLY, THE LAST TIME BEING JUST A FEW WEEKS, BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. GIVEN THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND, SOME INVOLVING VEHICLES WITH AS LOW AS 4,000 MILES ON THEM, AND THE LACK OF SUPPORT FROM HYUNDAI, I DO NOT THINK THEY ARE FULLY LOOKING INTO THE DANGERS OF THIS ISSUE, AND THAT THEY ARE NOT TAKING IT SERIOUSLY. IF WE HAD BEEN GOING FASTER, WHEN IT HAPPENED, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT, SINCE THE CAR JUST SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING, AND ALL WE HEARD WAS SOME SUDDEN NOISE. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY WITH HYUNDAI OF RENTON/CARPROS. SO FAR, THEY HAVE REFUSED TO ACCEPT THESE OCCURRENCES AS BEING RELATED TO THE RECALL ISSUE FROM HIGH PRESSURE WEAKENING THE RODS, AND HAVE REFUSED TO HELP PEOPLE WITH WARRANTY REPLACEMENTS. WE CAN PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION, AND OIL CHANGE DOCUMENTATION, AND ETC., UPON REQUEST.

DURING A NORMAL DRIVE FROM WORK, THE CAR HESITATED TO ACCELERATE FROM SITTING AT THE RED STREET LIGHT AND WHITE SMOKE BEGAN TO COME OUT OF THE EXHAUST PIPE. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF CAR TROUBLE,NO ENGINE LIGHT INDICATOR NOR ANY KIND OF ACKNOWLEDGMENT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY COAST TO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT WHICH WAS A HOLIDAY EXPRESS HOTEL. I THEN CALLED USAA AND REQUESTED TOW SERVICE TO HAVE TOWED TO SOUTH TOWNE HYUNDAI OF RIVERDALE, GA. ON MONDAY AUGUST 12, 2019. I EXPLAINED TO THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE OF MY ISSUE. HE CALLED TUESDAY MORNING AND ASKED AGAIN WHAT EXACTLY WAS THE ISSUE IN WHICH I EXPLAINED AGAIN. HE NEVER HEARD FROM THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AGAIN. I CALLED TUESDAY LATER THAT EVENING, LEFT A MESSAGE AND NO CALL BACK. ON WEDNESDAY, I CALLED LEFT A MESSAGE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER TO GIVE ME A CALL AND NO ONE CALLED. I WENT UP TO SOUTH TOWNE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH I WAITED AND UNTIL I ASKED A LADY WHO SAT IN AN OFFICE NEXT TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT FOR HELP. SHE WENT TO THE AUTOMOTIVE GARAGE CAME BACK AND SAID THEY TOOK THE OIL PAN OFF SAW SHAVINGS AND NOTED IT WAS A BAD ENGINE AND THE COST WAS $2500.00 FOR THE ENGINE PLUS LABOR WHICH WOULD BE AROUND $5000 TO $6000 DOLLARS. I WAS SHOCKED BECAUSE I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LESS THAN A MONTH AGO AND HAD NOT DRIVING THE CAR 1000 MILES. I ASK IF ADDITIONAL TEST WERE PERFORMED SHE SAID NO BECAUSE THE TOOK THE OIL PAN OFF FIRST. THERE WERE NO DIAGNOSTIC READING, NO OIL CHECK, NO THROTTLE CABLE CHECK PERFORMED. I AM LOST BECAUSE NUMEROUS CARS ARE HAVING THE SAME ENGINE ISSUE AND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER TURBO ENGINE EARLY THIS YEAR HOWEVER NOT FOR THE NON-TURBO WHICH IS EXTREMELY UNFAIR BECAUSE OF THE SHAVINGS FROM THE PISTONS WHICH IS NOT AN OIL CHANGE ISSUE NOR IS IT AN OWNER MAINTENANCE ISSUE AND THERE WERE NO WARNINGS OR SIGN OF TROUBLE.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER TURBO ON A SMALL ROAD, AS I PULLED AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN I HEARD LOUD METALLIC GRINDING AND SCRAPING SOUNDS, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. CHECKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND FOUND OIL SPRAYING FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK. VEHICLE WAS FOUND TO HAVE A BLOWN ROD AND A HOLD IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND WAS TOWED TO SUSSMAN HYUNDAI OF WILLOW GROVE PA WHERE I WAS INFORMED OF RECALL 19V-204 #182. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO THE BLOWN ROD THAT LEFT A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND IT WAS LIKELY THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE STAYED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR OVER A WEEK WHILE PICTURES WERE TAKEN AND SENT TO HYUNDAI CORP, HYUNDAI DECLINED TO ASSIST WITH THE ISSUE SAYING THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE, I WAS TOLD TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS GIVEN CASE #15862961 HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA HAS BEEN VERY UNRESPONSIVE. IT'S BEEN OVER 3 WEEKS WITHOUT ANY OFFICIAL NOTICE. I WAS LUCKY THAT THIS ISSUE DIDN'T HAPPEN AT HIGHER SPEEDS, I EASILY COULD'VE BEEN HURT OR KILLED DUE TO THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, MY 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER STARTED HAVING ISSUES ON 5/14/19 SO I SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR 5/16 AT MURDOCK HYUNDAI. DURING MY SERVICE VISIT I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL (#182) ON MY CAR BUT THEY CURRENTLY DID NOT HAVE A FIX FROM HYUNDAI AT THAT TIME. MY CAR WAS PARKED FROM 5/16/19 TO 6/3/19 WHEN I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TAKE IT BACK TO MURDOCK HYUNDAI TO HAVE THE RECALL ISSUE FIXED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT UPDATED THE DEFECTIVE SOFTWARE AND MY CAR DROVE PERFECTLY. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING MY CAR HOME FROM WORK IT STARTED HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS IT DID BEFORE THE UPDATE. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SOONEST THEY COULD GET ME BACK IN WAS 6/7/19 SO AGAIN I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT MY FUEL INJECTOR AND SPARK PLUG/COILS WERE DAMAGED AND NEED REPLACEMENT. ON 6/11/19 I SPOKE WITH A GENTLEMAN NAMED SEAN AT THE NATIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS FOR HYUNDAI REGARDING THE REPAIRS NEEDED AND I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK AFTER HE REACHED OUT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING BACK. I SENT HIM A FOLLOW UP EMAIL ON 6/18/19 AND STILL NO RESPONSE. IT HAS BEEN OVER 30 DAYS SINCE THIS ISSUE BEGAN AND IT'S STILL NOT RESOLVED. I WORK FULL TIME AND HAVE BEEN RELYING ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION BECAUSE I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE WITHOUT CAUSING FURTHER DAMAGE. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THE RECALL UPDATE FIXED THE PROBLEM AND HAS CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE IN RESOLVING THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I NOTICED SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED. IT WAS NOTED THAT THE ENGINE HAD A LOUD TICKING SOUND THAT IT DID NOT HAVE PRIOR TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. THE ENGINE IS GOING TO BE REPLACED WITH COST SHARE FROM HYUNDAI. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MULTIPLE ITEMS FIXED ON MY 2013 VELOSTER TURBO, I HAVE HAD THE FACTORY SPEAKERS REPLACED BECAUSE THEY HAVE BLOWN, HAD TO HAVE THE A/C CONTROL JOB REPLACED AND RECENTLY THE RED AIR BAG LIGHT HAS COME ON. MECHANICALLY IT HAS BEEN WORSE, AT 72000 MILES OR SO THE TURBO BLEW WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS WAS FORTUNATELY COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. I STARTED HAVING TO REPLACE SPARK PLUGS FREQUENTLY AS THEY BECAME COVERED IN OIL, THEN IN FEBRUARY MY ENGINE GAVE OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID A COMPRESSION TEST AND TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 5000 MILES SO I HAD TO BUY A USED ENGINE AND HAVE IT REPLACED, THREE MONTHS LATER I GOT A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM WAS RECALLED.

THE 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER I PURCHASED HAS HAD AN ISSUE WHERE THE CAR EMITS A SULFUR LIKE SMELL WHEN ACCELERATING. THE SAFETY RISK IS A FAULTY ENGINE, AND POSSIBLE EXPOSURE TO DANGEROUS EMISSIONS. UPON SEEING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEAR, I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. HYUNDAI INFORMED ME THAT THE CODES READ P0420 AND P0463. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND FUEL SENSOR BUT DID NOT ASSESS WHY THE ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED. THEY REFUSED TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEN TURNED OFF SOON AFTER THE DIAGNOSTIC AND RAN OK OTHER THAN THE SMELL. THE CAR HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED AT JIFFY LUBE FOR EACH NEEDED OIL CHANGES AND SERVICE. JIFFY LUBE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOW ON OIL NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE THE ISSUE STARTED, DESPITE THE OIL LIGHT NOT ILLUMINATED ON THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION AT A DIFFERENT HYUNDAI DEALER WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED BACK ON, IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE VEHICLES 3RD CYLINDER IS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. HYUNDAI REFUSED TO COVER THE ISSUE FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, FUEL SENSOR, AND ENGINE. I SUSPECT THE FAILURE OF CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND FUEL SENSOR TO BE RELATED TO THE ENGINE, DESPITE THE INFORMATION PRESENTED AND THE SERVICE CENTERS. I FEEL THAT HYUNDAI HAS PUT MY SAFETY IN JEOPARDY BY REFUSING TO COVER THIS ISSUE DESPITE MY PURCHASE OF A WARRANTY THAT COVERS ENGINE PROBLEMS. INCLUDED WITH SUBMISSION ARE THE RECORDS FOR MAINTENANCE, THE ORIGINAL DIAGNOSTIC, AND THE SECOND DIAGNOSTIC. THE MAIN CAUSE IS STILL UNKNOWN AFTER PAYING FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC, THE DEALER DID NOT PROVIDE A DEFINITIVE EXPLANATION. KKB FLAGGED A VERY SIMILAR MODEL, SAME YEAR, MAKE AND ENGINE SIZE WITH REF. 19V204000 FOR ENGINE RELATED ISSUES CAUSED BY A SOFTWARE ISSUE.

MY VELOSTER WAS AT 73K MILES WHEN ITS ENGINE WAS BLOWN UP. WHILE I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY ON A FAST-FOOD PARKING LOT, I HEARD A LOUD BANG, AND METAL CLANG FROM THE HOOD OF MY CAR. THE CAR LOST ITS POWER AND THERE WAS SMOKING COMING OUT FROM THE HOOD AS WELL. SO, I WENT TO POP THE HOOD UP. THERE WAS OIL SPLASHED ON THE ENGINE. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO HYUNDAI DEALER TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A BLOWN ENGINE ISSUE. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS HAPPENED TO ME. I HAD JUST BOUGHT THE CAR FOR 2 MONTHS FROM A DEALER. THE DEALER I BOUGHT FROM HAD THE CAR INSPECTED AND VERIFIED THAT IT WAS IN EXCELLENT HEALTH, AND EVERYTHING. I HAD NOT INSTALLED ANY AFTERMARKET PARTS OR TWEAKED ANYTHING ON THIS VEHICLE, BESIDES REPLACING A NEW SET OF TIRES. I REALLY HOPE THAT HYUNDAI WILL PROVIDE A REMEDY FOR THIS TYPE OF ISSUE SINCE IT WAS BASICALLY ITS PRODUCTION FAULT. I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A MUCH WORSE SITUATION, HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR HIGH SPEED. ALSO, I AM NOT THE ONE WITH THAT HYUNDAI HAD LEFT A BAD TASTE IN THE MOUTH WITH ITS ENGINE FAILURE.

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE STALLING AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A WARRANTY CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V204000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE); ALTHOUGH, THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR. THE DEALER PROVIDED AN EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSIS AND DETERMINED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE, TURBO, RADIATOR ASSEMBLY, PUMP ASSEMBLY AND OTHER UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER AND WAS TO FOLLOW-UP WITH THE DEALER AND CONTACT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.

I HAVE A HYUNDAI VELOSTER 2013. ON THE HWY HOME FROM WORK MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT COMPLETELY DIED. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION IT SEEMED TO BE IN PART DUE TO THE BATTERY. WE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND . SWITCHED OUT THE ALTERNATOR TO TEST IT AND TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY CHARGED US 150 TO SUGGEST FACTORY PARTS IN ORDER TO DIAGNOSE IT. I REFUSED AND PUT THE OLD ALTERNATOR BACK ON AFTER IT TESTED CLEAR AND HECKED THE FUSES. THE MULTI FUSE FOR THE ALTERNATOR HAD BLOWN SO WE REPLACED THAT (MAKING IT DRIVEABLE) AND BROUGHT IT IN TO A DIFFERENT HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPT. THEY DIDNT CHARGE ME TO TELL ME THAT IT HAD BLOWN A ROD AND I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. HYUNDAI IS REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING HOWEVER DID CALL THE SEXIST JERKS FROM THE ORIGINALLY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND USED THAT INTERACTON AS BASIS TO SAY MY CAR IS FINE...

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THE ENGINE JUST STARTED SMOKING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND I GOT IT TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE CYLINDERS THAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BLOW.. APPARENTLY THIS IS A RECALL NOW.. RECALL 182. I CAN NO LONGER MOVE THE CAR BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS BLOWN AS WELL AS ITS ABOUT $5000 TO FIX..

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE TEMPERATURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STARTED TO OVERHEAT AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DUBLIN HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 6015 SCARLETT CT, DUBLIN, CA 94568, (925) 803-7700) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. HOWEVER, THE COOLING FAN WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COOLING FAN WAS INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.

LAG UPON ACCELERATION. MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRES. ALL REPLACED AND CONTINUE TO MISFIRE. TO MUCH OIL BEING EXPELLED THROUGH EXHAUST, REGULAR OIL CHANGE RECORDS AND DRIVE EFFICIENCY. POTENTIALLY RUINING TURBO AS WELL AS MOTOR. DEPLETING MPG.

MILEAGE 114,000. A LOUD GRINDING AND "WHISTLE" NOISE BEGAN SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING IN STOP/GO TRAFFIC. THE CAR ALSO STARTED SMOKING AND GENERATING A VERY PUNGENT SMELL. THE NOISE HAS GOTTEN WORSE. TURBO FAILURE, $2000.00 REPAIR. HYUNDAI CAN SIMPLY SAY I DIDN'T MAINTAIN APPROPRIATE OIL CHANGE RECORDS AND DENY ANY WARRANTY REPAIRS. RESEARCHING THE ISSUE REVEALED THE TURBO FAILING AS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2013 VELOSTER.

NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG BUT CALLING DEALERSHIP. TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THEY WILL HAVE TO TEAR DOWN ENGINE TO SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFY PROBLEM. SOUNDS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM, AND NOW WITH THE RECALL, SOUNDS EVEN MORE LIKE A PROBLEM.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE THE CONTACT'S SON WAS DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. ADDITIONALLY, OIL AND SMOKE EMERGED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO COLUMBIA HYUNDAI (10981 MONTGOMERY RD, CINCINNATI, OH 45249, (513) 878-1980) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONNECTING ROD BLOCK WAS DAMAGED AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V204000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 15648836. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,802.

I PURCHASED MY 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER IN FALL OF 2015 AS SECOND OWNER FROM WORLD HYUNDAI IN MATTESON, IL. IT HAD ROUGHLY 32,000 ON THE ODOMETER. AFTER TWO DECENT YEARS OF RELATIVELY TROUBLE FREE OWNERSHIP THE "ELECTRICAL GREMLINS" ATTACKED THE TRUNK RELEASE, THEN THE REVERSE CAMERA, THEN THE CLIMATE CONTROL KNOB. I WAS RELUCTANT TO TAKE THE CAR IN AGAIN BECAUSE I HAD SPENT MORE MONEY ON DIAGNOSTIC CHARGES THAN I HAD ON ITEMS THAT WERE COVERED. I LIKED THE VEHICLE AND METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED IT TO SPEC AS WELL. ON ONE OF THE COLDEST DAYS IN WINTER OF 2019, I WENT OUT TO START UP MY VELOSTER AND WAS TERRIFIED BY A LOUD METAL TICKING FOLLOWED BY RATTLING IN THE MOTOR. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN THE CAR. I WAITED A BIT THEN TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. IT WAS VERY BAD. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE CLOSEST HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN WHICH I DESCRIBED ALL THE ISSUES WITH THE CAR. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE HAS ROUGHLY 92000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND OF COURSE THE TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BUT, REPLACE THE MOTOR FOR AROUND $4500 , SELL ME A NEW ONE, OR BUY IT IN TRADE. ONCE AGAIN I PAID OVER $430 IN DIAGNOSTIC FEES WITH NO COVERAGE OR HELP. LOOKED AROUND ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THESE VEHICLES HAS HAD ALL OF THE ABOVE ISSUES AND NO CLEAR SOLUTIONS TO ANY. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE ISSUES I HAVE HAD WITH MY VEHICLE MANY OTHERS HAVE POSTED ON YOUTUBE, GOOGLE ETC., BUT NOT MANY HAVE FILED OFFICIAL COMPLAINT. COME ON PEOPLE! GET ON BOARD!

STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WAITING FOR GREEN. WHEN GREEN WAS UP, I STARTED TO TRAVEL DOWN THE NEXT ROAD AND THERE WAS A HUGE BANGING NOISE AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE CAR ENGINE STOPPED. THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD AND PIECES OF METAL BANGING FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND OIL SPEWING OUT FROM BEHIND ME WHILE I ROLLED TO A STOP. AFTER STOPPING, I POWERED OFF THE CAR DUE TO SMOKE STARTING IN THE HOOD, OPENED UP THE HOOD AND PUT OUT THE SMALL FIRE THAT STARTED. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION, THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF MY ENGINE BLOCK. THE DRIVER BEHIND ME PULLED OVER TO HELP ME OUT AND WE RECOVERED PIECES OF METAL BEING ENGINE BLOCK, BROKEN IN HALF PISTON ROD, PISTON ROD PIPE THAT CONNECTS TO THE ENGINE ROD, AND A FEW OTHER PIECES OF METAL. I WAS LESS THAN 100 FEET AWAY FROM THE STOP WHEN I STARTED TRAVELING. AND LESS THAN 2 MILES FROM WHERE I LEFT WHEN I STARTED DRIVING. IT WAS A RESIDENTIAL STREET WITH A TOP MPH OF 40 MPH. I WASN'T EVEN GOING ABOVE 15 MPH WHEN IT BLEW. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN ONTO THE INTERSECTING STREET WHEN IT BROKE LOOSE.

AFTER COMING FROM WORK I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS SHAKING AND WHEN I ACCELERATED IT FELT LIKE IT WAS STRUGGLING. NEXT MORNING I TURN ON THE CAR AND IT DOES THE SAME. WHILE THE CAR REMAINS ON I OPEN THE HOOD AND I REMOVE THE ENGINE COVER. I NOTICE THAT THE WIRING IN THE ENGINE HARNESS IS PARTIALLY DESTROYED AND SPARKING. SOME PARTS START TO IGNITE AND I QUICKLY TURN OFF THE CAR AND PUT OUT THE SMALL LITTLE FLAMES. IF I HADN'T NOTICED I WOULD OF CAUGHT ON FIRE. MY 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER ONLY HAS 30,000 MILES. THIS IS CRAZY. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY PICTURES LOOK LIKE THE HYUNDAI SANTA FE'S ENGINE CAR FIRES!

ON DECEMBER 18 2018, I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE ALLEN TURNER HYUNDAI IN PENSACOLA, FL. FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ISSUE. IT IS NOW JANUARY 26 2019. DURING THE TIME THEY HAVE HAD THE CAR, THEY FIRST DIAGNOSED A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. AFTER REPAIRING THAT, THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE HAD A CRACKED BLOCK. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 58,00 MILES ON IT. DOING RESEARCH, I'VE DISCOVERED THAT THIS ENGINE IS PRONE TO CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURES THAT HYUNDAI REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. I EVEN CALLED AND E MAILED HYUNDAI USA FOR HELP, TO NO AVAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTEE TIMED OUT, BUT I PURCHASED AN AFTER MARKET WARRANTEE FROM ROUT 66 IN ARKANSAS.. UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO THE REPORTING OF ISSUE TO THE WARRANTEE COMPANY BY ALLEN TURNER HYUNDAI, THE WARRANTEE COMPANY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIRS.

WITH NO WARNING, AT LOW SPEED, HAVING TRAVELLED ONLY A QUARTER OF A MILE FROMTHE PREVIOUS LOCATION WHERE IT HAD BEEN PARKED FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS, THE ENGINE LOCKED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY, THROWING A ROD AND MULTIPLE CHUNKS OF METAL, AND POURING OIL ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN WELL-MAINTAINED, AND HAD LOW MILEAGE FOR ITS AGE. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AFTER THE MOTOR REALLY HAD A CHANCE TO HEAT UP, THERE COULD HAVE ALSO BEEN A FIRE. DEBRIS FROM ALL OF THE PARTS FLYING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR COULD HAVE ALSO CAUSED INJURY.

AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER TURBO HOME FROM WORK ON 10/16/18, I PULLED ONTO THE FREEWAY ON RAMP AND BEGAN ACCELERATING. I FELT A LARGE SHUDDER/VIBRATION, HEARD A LOUD METALLIC BANG, AND SAW SMOKE BEGIN POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, AND POPPED THE HOOD. SMOKE BEGAN POURING OUT FROM THE ENGINE BAY. I OBSERVED THAT A MIXTURE OF OIL AND ANTIFREEZE HAD SPRAYED ON MANY OF THE ENGINE COMPONENTS AND WAS STREAMING OFF THE ENGINE ONTO THE PAVEMENT. I LOOKED UNDER AND BEHIND THE CAR AND FOUND INTERNAL ENGINE COMPONENTS SUCH AS PIECES OF THE ENGINE BLOCK, PISTON, WRIST PIN, ETC. I ALSO WAS ABLE TO LOOK UNDER THE CAR AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A LARGE HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK WHERE AN INTERNAL COMPONENTS HAD SHOT OUT OF THE ENGINE AND THE OIL FILTER HOUSING WAS SNAPPED OFF OF THE ENGINE BLOCK AND DANGLING BY THE OIL LINE. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET FORUMS, I FOUND THAT CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WAS VERY COMMON FOR 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER TURBO CARS. THE FAILURES OFTEN INVOLVED INTERNAL ENGINE PIECES BLOWING OUT OF THE ENGINE, DESTROYING THE ENGINE, AND SPRAYING THE ENGINE AND GROUND DOWN WITH OIL AND ANTIFREEZE. I FOUND REPORTS OF APPROXIMATELY 20+ OF THESE ENGINE FAILURES ON THIS PARTICULAR FORUM (VELOSTERTURBO.ORG), BUT TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL BY HYUNDAI FOR THIS ISSUE. I RECOMMEND THAT THE NHTSA OPEN UP AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS ISSUE AS THIS COMMON CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE CAN HAVE SEVERE SAFETY CONSEQUENCES DUE TO INTERNAL ENGINE COMPONENTS BEING EJECTED FROM THE ENGINE AT HIGH SPEED, ENGINES CATASTROPHICALLY FAILING AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO LOSE POWER IMMEDIATELY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN, AND THE RISK OF FIRE DUE TO HOT COMPONENTS BEING DOUSED IN OIL.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE AT A STOP AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AN EXPLOSION WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT NOTICED BLACK SMOKE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND FROM BOTH FRONT TIRES. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE BURST INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 11082662. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO CURTIS AUTOMOTIVE IN FALMOUTH, MA FOR NEW TIRES. WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING TEST-DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY THE TEST-DRIVER INDICATED THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD BANGING NOISE, HE PULLED OVER, THE ENGINE SEIZED, OIL WAS EVERYWHERE. THE CAR WAS TOWED BACK TO CURTIS AUTOMOTIVE AND THEN TO HYUNDAI WHERE THE CAR ENGINE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED. HYUNDAI INDICATED 'THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED FROM PISTON #4' BUT NO FURTHER DIAGNOSIS AS TO WHAT CAUSED THIS OR WHY THIS HAPPENED. RESEARCH INDICATES THERE IS NO PREDICTABILITY FOR IT HAPPENING, BUT THE COMMON FACTORS ARE: IT PERTAINS TO TURBO CHARGED ENGINES, HAPPENS AT LOWER SPEEDS COUPLED WITH HIGHER LOADS AND HIGH CYLINDER PRESSURES REFERRED TO AS LOW SPEED PRE-IGNITION (LSPI) WHERE COMBUSTION OCCURS PREMATURELY IMPACTING MECHANICAL INTERNALS OF GASOLINE ENGINES, EVIDENCED WITH SEVERE KNOCKING BECAUSE THE PISTONS AND CONNECTING RODS ARE RISING WHEN THIS DOWNWARD COMBUSTION (BANG) OCCURS. WORST CASE SCENARIOS INDICATE THIS LEADS TO BROKEN PISTON RINGS, DAMAGED RING LANDS AND/OR BENT CONNECTING RODS. FURTHER, OPERATING AT RELATIVELY LOW RPM AND CONSTANT LOAD SUCH AS HIGHWAY CRUISING THE ENGINE CAN SLIP INTO THE LSPI ZONE WHERE POTENTIAL ENGINE DAMAGE MAY OCCUR. 2 REFERENCES: HTTP://WWW.VELOSTERTURBO.ORG/FORUM/VELOSTER-TURBO-DISCUSSIONS/9852-WHY-MOTORS-KEEP-BLOWING-UP.HTML HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=NUDB_TIIJHU

I HAVE A 2013 HYUNDAI VELOSTER TURBO WITH A 1.6 LITER TURBO ENGINE THAT THREW A ROD THRU THE ENGINE BLOCK.HYUNDAI ISSUED RECALLS ON THE SONATA AND THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACING DEFECTIVE 1.6 LITER TURBO ENGINES FOR SOME VELOSTERS AND NOT OTHERS THAT ARE HAVING IDENTICAL PROBLEMS.THEY SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL ALL OF THEM.I HAD A TICKING SOUND FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AND IT SOUNDED LIKE A LIFTER TICK.AFTER DOING A LOT OF ONLINE RESEARCH EVERYONE SAID TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT BECAUSE IT WAS CARBON BUILD UP ON THE INTAKE VALVES .I AM AN ASE MASTER TECH WITH OVER 40 YEARS EXPERIENCE AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD A ROD MAKE A TICKING SOUND LIKE THIS.THERE ARE LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON LINE CONCERNING THIS ISSUE AND HYUNDAI HAS NOT RECOGNIZED THEM.YES THEY DO OFFER A 10 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER AND ONLY A 5 YEAR 60,000 MILE WARRANTY TO THE SECOND OWNER.I HAD TO HAVE THE STANDARD TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT APPROXIMATELY 28,000 MILES BY HYUNDAI FOR A DESIGN FLAW IN THE TRANSMISSION CASE CAUSING THE SEAL TO LEAK,BUT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE ENGINE BECAUSE I AM THE SECOND OWNER. IF I WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER THEY WOULD REPLACE IT.I HAVE CHANGED MY OIL AND FILTER EVERY 3 TO 4,000 MILES AND MY CAR IS PAMPERED BY ME .WHEN IT THREW THE ROD I WAS PULLING FROM A STOP SIGH AT LESS THAN 5 MPH AND LESS THAN 1,000 RPMS AND IT DIED AS I WAS TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY.

INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JULY 21ST 2017 AT 1:45PM AT 9701 DESSAU ROAD, AUSTIN TEXAS. I WAS COMING AROUND THE CORNER AT DESSAU AND RUNDBERG HEADING NORTH AND I FELT THE CAR SKIP A LITTLE AND HAD SOME LOSS OF POWER. I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT AT 9701 DESSAU AND THE CAR WAS SMOKING AND THE BRAKES WENT OUT. I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THEN OPENED THE HOOD, THERE WAS FIRE AND BLACK SMOKE COMING OUT AND I RAN INSIDE TO GET A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. IT LOOKED LIKE THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE SPREAD UNDER THE MOTOR COVER AND BURNED SOME OF THE HOOD, BUT I GOT TO IT QUICKLY AND MINIMAL DAMAGE WAS DONE. I COULD HAVE CRASHED AND DIED.

HAD CAR FOR AROUND A YEAR AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH SHAKES SUSPENSION AND AS OF RECENT A ROD THREW THROUGH MY ENGINE WALL THROUGH MY OIL COMPARTMENT. I KEEP UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE OF THE CAR REGULARLY AND FOR SOMETHING SO HUGE OF THAT NATURE TO HAPPEN IS BIZARRE. APPARENTLY HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF HYUNDAIS HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE (RODS BEING THROWN). I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS MANY OTHER DRIVERS WITH NO RESOLUTION. I'VE REACHED OUT HYUNDAI MULTIPLE TIMES TO HAVE THEM INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND HAVE EVEN HAD THEM JUST DRIVE IT AROUND BECAUSE YOU CAN TELL RIGHT AWAY THIS CAR DRIVES FUNNY. THEY ONLY RESPONDED WITH WELL IT'S JUST THE TYPE OF CAR. WELL I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT THIS CAR IF I KNEW I WOULD BE HAVING THIS MANY ISSUES. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO HAVE THE ENGINE PROBLEMS RECALLED ALONG WITH THE SUSPENSION WHEN IT JUMPS OUT OF LINE. I FEEL LIKE THE SHAKEY SUSPENSION WHEN HITTING A SMALL BUMP AND EVERY OTHER PROBLEM HAS BEEN LEADING UP TO THROWING THE ROD. I'M SO DISAPPOINTED AND WILL BE FILLING LEGAL ACTION IF THIS DOES NOT GET RESOLVED IN MY FAVOR. AS I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE.

VEHICLE SLIPS OUT OF GEAR OFTEN. DEALERSHIP CANNOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, AND ONE DEALER DISMISSED MY COMPLAINT. HAPPENS AFTER ACCELERATING FROM A STOP WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1-2 BUT HAS HAPPENED WHEN SHIFTING 2-3 AND IT SLIPS OUT AND ENGINE REVS, DISENGAGED FROM WHEELS (AS IF IN NEUTRAL). THIS IS WHEN USING IT IN NORMAL MODE, NOT SPORT OR MANUAL SHIFT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE IN VARIOUS FORUMS (NOT YET ON NHSTA SITE IT SEEMS) THIS IS VERY UNSAFE IN TRAFFIC AS THE DRIVER MUST STOP ACCELERATING, SHIFT CAR INTO N AND THEN BACK TO DRIVE TO GET IT TO WORK AGAIN.

THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE DRIVER COULD NOT ACCELERATE OR THROTTLE. THE DRIVER PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN THE DRIVER NOTICED WHITE SMOKE ACCUMULATING AND THE SMELL OF COOLANT OR ANTIFREEZE COMING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE.
