This is related to a repeat failure of recalls 121/197 of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz. Oil leaks down from the top valve gasket onto the alternator causing a random and erratic electrical disturbance and failure that can happen at any time causing serious risk of safety. With the alternator being damaged in this form also put other potential electrical systems at risk of damage. This is either the 3rd or 4th time of repeat failure. Previous time has damaged the battery. Luckily this time it went out in a parking lot just before was going to drive and had complete loss of power. Vehicle had to be towed into dealer service center. Upon inspection the alternator and valve cover gasket had to be replaced out of pocket as service center claims these are not covered. Tried to escalate the issue to Hyundai Motor Corporation to be reimbursed and was given a case manager. After a couple days I was told the original 121 recall is to old and not covered under warranty anymore and repairs were already made. I explained that recall 197 is a continuation of the previous 121 and she had to check back with the service center. A couple days later she reports back that they still will not cover the costs as the repairs have already been done before in the past. This time when received vehicle back from service center turns out the steering wheel tilt and telescoping module no longer functions. Costs of Alternator $1832.99 Costs of Valve Cover Gasket $313.31 Totaling $2146.30 that is suppose to be covered due to the recalls. Not repaired because of hassle between service center and Hyundai Motorcorp refusal to reimburse anything is the Steering Wheel Tilt/Telescoping module quoted at $1096.06 Included photo is taken of the alternator prior to being towed and clearly shows the over time build up of dripping oil all over it.

I was driving on the freeway all of a sudden my car shuts down on me I had the to replace the Starter, fuel pump, alternator, and spark plugs to the vehicle after replacing all that the car starts but it will eventually shut down on me so during the times I was trying to fix my car I received a recall letter in the mail took it Dealer Buerkle Hyundai on August 1, 2024 at the location 3350 Hwy 61 North saint Paul MN 55110. They refuse to fix the recall they claim there is a knock on the engine and I would need to replace the engine that is gonna cost me 8,000 for a use motor only for them to proceed with the recall on the vehicle at this moment I was asked to return the rental and tow my car outta there they won't fix it please help me resolve this issue since I bought this vehicle its been nothing but trouble and stress.

In addition, it was discovered that engine oil was leaking onto the alternator. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and confirmed that the vehicle was leaking engine oil onto the alternator. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact that that an unknown manufacturer's recall was performed on the vehicle related to the failure; however, the recall repair failed to prevent the failure from occurring. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 184,000.

Tired of engine and electrical failures. As recently as 7/11/2023, I brought my vehicle, 2011 Veracruz Limited FWD suv, to the Brandon (FL) Hyundai delaer for a supposed recall repair. I brought in the car, and picked it up the following day, and was assured that the recall (due to "leaky head gaskets") was taken care as well as the CHECK ENGINE (CE) light - the alternator was NOT replaced (as I had replaced it on 6/28/23 [$241.86 + tax]) with the excuse "it had passed all tests". A couple of days later, the CE light came back. I brought in the car again 7/24/23 and was told upon pick up THAT SAME DAY, that the engine "had a connector loose". Back on the road again, on 7/27/23 the CE light came up again. I decided to check the car myself and noticed: #1. NO (recall related) WORK had been done!!; #2. I decided to see what the CE light meant (P0420) so I removed the Bank 1 Catalytic converter and was astounded at the enormous amount to oil leaking and covering every nook and crany of the front engine - pictures included!! I purchased a new exhaust manifold gasket ($23.30 + tax) and throttle body spray cleaner ($38.43 + tax) to repair and take it back to the dealer for a thorough check up - keeping my fingers crossed. This has been the latest expenses in a litany of expenses (tools, parts, chemicals, related accesories), time off, trips to the dealer and what not in the history of this suv since I purchased back in 8/2010. Hyndai has refussed to pay a penny for all my expenses or repairs all the way to te point of charging for a recall repair NEVER DONE! BTW, I have had the alternator replaced, by myself and by the same dealer, four (4) times!!

ENGINE FAILED DUE TO OIL LEAKAGE

The car would not start so we had it towed to a local repair shop. (The closest Hyundai dealer is located 91 miles (182 round trip). The local shop diagnostics indicated an oil leak in the valve cover gasket which dripped onto the alternator and the drive belt. The obvious way to fix the problem was to replace the valve cover gasket, the alternator and the drive belt. The parts were obtained from an online parts distributor. The diagnostic work was done by the shop and the labor was performed by a well known Master Mechanic with over 25 years of experience and is recognized by the ASE. I filed several claims with Hyundai who keep coming up with reasons why they can't pay the claim for a total $600.00 out of pocket cost. The car was fixed 7/9/2021 and has run great since then with no leakage! I have filed claims several times and each time they request more documentation be furnished. The latest rejection is dated 5/16/2023 and Hyundai has assigned a Consumer Case #21314437.

Recall 197. Oil leak from valve cover gasket. Hyundai has refused to repair this. I've broken down 2 times in the last year. I've spent over $2000 on repairs. Hyundai refuses to reimburse me or repair the vehicle. What can you do to help.

RECALL 197: no fix yet? 2011 Veracruz AWD Limited May 19, 2021 Car quit operating. Shut down after little warning. Instrument panel lit up indicating some sort of problem, then no power. Unable to restart. Had Veracruz towed to the nearest repair shop East County Auto on hwy 12 ( Glenoma, WA) only 33 miles from breakdown. Feel like this car is Unsafe, AND hoping to get a fix so it can be safe. Hyundai says a fix is coming in a recent letter, but I have a PROBLEM with this car NOW. Will proceed with diagnostic efforts, repair if possible, and wait for Hyundai permanent fix or reimbursement. Feel that Hyundai is responsible for an immediate solution to this problem. HYUNDAI ANNOUNCED THE FOLLOWING RECALL IN NOVEMBER 2020. TO DATE THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN 2016. I REPAIRED THE PROBLEM BACK THEN AT MY EXPENSE BUT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE ASSESSED BY HYUNDAI AND CLEARED OR ADDITIONAL REPAIRS MADE. I AM WAITING OVER 6 MONTHS FOR A REMEDY ON A RECALL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY ANNOUNCED IN 2014 AND REISSUED IN 2020 BECAUSE OF HYUNDAI'S FAILURE TO ADEQUATELY ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FROM HUUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA REGARDING A SAFETY RECALL WITH ENGINES LEAKING OIL FROM THE FRONT CYLINDER BANK'S VALVE COVER ONTO THE ALTERNATOR. AS A RESULT, IT DAMAGED THE ALTERNATOR RESULTING DISABLEMENT OF THE CHARGING SYSTEM. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND CNA INCREASE THE RISK OF CRASH. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND CALLED THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE (3/18/21 CASE # 18073112) AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO RESOLUTION. NOW, MY CAR IS COMPLETELY NOT DRIVABLE. I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC SHOP TO REPLACE THE GASKET AND ALTERNATOR. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT HYNDAI MOTOR SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST.

THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE OIL LEAKED ONTO HER ALTERNATOR AND THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V415000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED THE FREE REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT LOST ALL ELECTRICAL DUE TO THE FAILED ALTERNATOR.

THE CONTACT NOTICED OIL ALL OVER THE ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HYUNDAI OF ORANGE PARK (7600 BLANDING BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32244, (855) 778-2061) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER THE ALTERNATOR AND THE GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE MATCHED AN UNKNOWN RECALL, WHICH WAS REPAIRED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER, AND PROMISED A CASE MANAGER WOULD CALL HIM BACK. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED BY 400 MILES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,030.

WE PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES OR MORE FOR THE REPAIR OF AN ENGINE OIL LEAK THAT SATURATES THE ALTERNATOR RESULTING IN ITS FAILURE. THEY HAVE RESEALED THE ENGINE OIL PAN THE FIRST TIME. SECOND, THIRD, FORTH, AND FIFTH TIME THEY REPLACED THE FRONT ENGINE VALVE COVER GASKET. THE LAST TIME THEY FOLLOWED THE RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE AS OUTLINED BY HYUNDAI THAT WAS MANDATED BY NTSB AS A RECALL. HOWEVER THE OIL LEAK STILL REMAINS. UPON OUR LAST VISIT IN NOVEMBER 2018 THE HYUNDAI SERVICE SHOP DETERMINED THAT THE OIL LEAK IS FROM THE FRONT ENGINE COVER (TIMING COVER). THEY SUBMITTED A REQUEST TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE TO MAKE THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. CORPORATE ADVISED THAT THE REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE UNDER THE VEHICLES WARRANTY PERIOD. NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY HAVE NO OBLIGATION TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. PLUS BECAUSE IT IS NOT RELATED TO THE VALVE COVER AND THAT REPAIR HAS ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED, THEY HAVE MEAT THEIR OBLIGATIONS. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT PART OF THE MANDATED NTSB REPAIR DOES INVOLVE A PORTION OF THE ENGINE COVER, BUT APPARENTLY APPLYING A LAYER OF SEALANT ACROSS THE SEAM OF THE COVER DOES NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEREFORE THIS IS STILL A SAFETY HAZARD AND WE ARE LOOKING AT REPLACING A 3RD ALTERNATOR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO CRANK. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V415000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE A NOTIFICATION. THE CONTACT NOTICED AN OIL LEAK UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THAT THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TEAM HYUNDAI (22514 THREE NOTCH RD, LEXINGTON PARK, MD 20653, 1-(301) 433-7574) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR THEM TO DETERMINE IF THE FAILURE COULD BE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED PER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE FROM THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE, THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND QUICKLY I LOST POWER AND MY ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACE AND CAR WAS DRIVING FINE. 2 WEEKS LATER, THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I INSPECTED THE ALTERNATOR AND COULD SEE OIL VISIBLE ON THE ALTERNATOR. I DID SOME QUICK RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A VALVE GASKET LEAK ONTO THE ALTERNATOR ON MY 2011 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ, THAT HAD BEEN FIXED IN 2014. NOW HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. HYUNDAI OF CHANTILLY, VA CONFIRMED, BUT WILL NOT COVER CHARGES TO REPAIR. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AS I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD TWINS WHEN THE CAR SHUT DOWN.

RECALL RELATING TO OIL LEAK FROM THE FRONT CYLINDER BANK VALVE COVER GASKET COMPLETED. REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED BY AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE OF HYUNDAI INCLUDING REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR. FRONT CYLINDER STILL IS LEAKING AND NEW ALTERNATOR IS NOW CONTAMINATED. THE ALTERNATOR BEING CONTAMINATED WILL CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERATIVE AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. NHTSA CAMPAIGN #14V415000 WAS ISSUES FOR RECALL OF FAULTY VALVE COVER GASKET THAT CAN LEAK AND SHORT OUT ALTERNATOR, CAUSING LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. OUR VERACRUZ HAS NOW HAD THIS VALVE COVER REPLACED THREE TIMES SINCE THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED, TWICE NOW IN THE LAST YEAR. THIS TIME, 4/2018, THE ALTERNATOR WAS SHORTED OUT AND CAUSED LOSS OF POWER WHILE VEHICLE WAS IS MOTION ON CITY STREET. HYUNDAI HAS REPAIRED FAULTY PARTS AGAIN, HOWEVER, THEY HAVE YET TO HAVE A VALID FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. THE REPAIRS HAVE ONLY BEEN A BANDAID, AS SAME PROBLEM KEEPS OCCURRING. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL RECALL ISSUED TILL HYUNDAI COMES UP WITH VALID FIX FOR THE DANGEROUS PROBLEM.

THE OIL PAN OR OIL PAN GASKET LEAKS SLOWLY UNDER THE ENGINE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MOST VERACRUZ THAT THEY SHOULD FIX FOR FREE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN THERE SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE & I'M WAITING FOR THEM TO FIX THIS RECALL ISSUE TOO.

THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE ABOVE 30 MPH. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT OIL WAS LEAKING ON THE ALTERNATOR AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V415000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. VEHICLE DRIVEN ON HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH AND ENGINE CHECK SIGN CAME ON, THEN CAR SIGN AS ANTITHEFT SIGN APPEARED THAN TPC SIGN AND NAVIGATION DIRECTION SIGN IN MIRROR ALL KEPT BLINKING ON AND OFF. VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN BUT SPEEDOMETER STUCK TO 60 MPH. VEHICLE DROPPED SPEED GRADUALLY AND I WAS AFRAID THAT OTHER VEHICLES COMING BEHIND AT FULL SPEED MAY HIT MY VEHICLE IF THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF MY VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN. I HAD TO PULLED THE VEHICLE IN SHOULDER LANE AND STARTED MY EMERGENCY BLINKERS ON. BLINKERS WERE GOING ON AND OFF AND WARNING BELL WERE ALSO GOING ON AND OFF. DAMAGED THE BATTERY OF MY VEHICLE. CONTACT HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE CENTER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL CAMPAIGN 121 DOES NOT HAVE REMEDY TO THIS RECALL. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, CRASH, FIRE OR SERIOUS INJURY OR FATALITY, SINCE IT AFFECTING TO THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE AND SPEEDOMETER DOSE NOT RESPONDS TO THE CURRENT SPEED OF VEHICLE. FOLLOWING EMAIL SENT TO HYUNDAI DEAR SIR: I HAVE A 2011 VERCRUZ WITH 27499 MILES THAT I HAVE LOVED UNTIL JANUARY 19, 2014. WHILE TRAVELING AT 50MPH, THE CAR SUFFERED CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF ALL ELECTRICAL POWER: NO POWER STRAINING, NO POWER BRAKES, NO ENGINE POWER. IT COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. BY RESEARCHING THE NET, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN DESCRIBED MANY TIMES BEFORE. AN OIL GASKET LEAKS THAT DRIPS OIL ON THE ALTERNATOR PRODUCING LOSS OF ALL ELECTRICAL POWER AND A DEAD ENGINE. MY DEALER, L------N HYUNDAI, DID THE REPAIR WORK, ONLY CHARGING ME FOR THE DEPLETED BATTERY. NOR WERE TOW CHARGES REIMBURSED. THEY CONCLUDED THAT OIL HAD LEAKED FROM THE GASKET, DESTROYING THE ALTERNATOR. I REGARD THIS HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
