AS I WAS ACCELERATING TO ACCESS HIGHWAY, I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE MY VEHICLE. IT WAS AS IF I WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS. I KEPT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AND IT SLOWLY STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND SEEMED FINE. A FEW MINUTES LATER WHEN I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, THE CAR DIED. I PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED AND IT WAS FINE. A FEW DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AS I WAS IN THE CARPOOL LINE AT MY DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL. CAR WAS RUNNING, WHILE I WAITED AND IT SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN. WHEN I RESTARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ON. I CHECKED MY MANUAL AND THOUGHT IT COULD BE THE GAS CAP WASN'T ON TIGHT ENOUGH OR BAD GAS. FILLED UP MY TANK AND A FEW HOURS LATER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT. TODAY THE CAR DIED AS I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, HOWEVER IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED. HE SUGGESTED I CONTACTED INFINITI. I CONTACTED BOTH DEALER AND INFINITI NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO ACKNOWLEDGED THERE WAS A CAM POSITION SENSOR PROBLEM WITH 2003 G35S, BUT BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT IN THE CAMPAIGN THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THE CAM POSITION SENSORS AT MY EXPENSE (ABOUT $1500). THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FILED WITH THE NHTSA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH NO APPARENT RESOLUTION WITH INFINITI. I OWN A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND THE CAR IS CONSUMING A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL. I AM POURING TWO QUARTS OF OIL IN IT EVERY 3 - 4 DAYS. AT THIS POINT, THE OIL IS LEAKING INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER PRODUCING WHITE FUMES OUT THE TAILPIPE. I REACHED OUT TO INFINITI?S CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT WITH THE ISSUE AND THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO AN AUTHORIZED INFINITI SERVICE CENTER FOR EVALUATION. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO AN INFINITI SERVICE CENTER AND TOLD THE SERVICE REP MY CAR COMPLAINT. HIS IMMEDIATE RESPONSE WAS THAT THE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS DO CONSUME A LOT OF OIL. AFTER THE CAR'S EVALUATION, THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE BLOCK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF DAMAGED OR WORN PISTON RINGS. I ASKED THE SERVICE REP WHAT COULD CAUSE A SOPHISTICATED, EXPENSIVE MACHINE TO REQUIRE A MOTOR REPLACEMENT AFTER ONLY 126K MILES. THE SERVICE REP REPLIED THAT IT COULD BE DUE TO INFREQUENT OIL CHANGES AND/OR DRIVING THE CAR FOR LONG PERIODS WITHOUT OIL BOTH OF WHICH DO NOT APPLY TO ME. I THEN REACHED OUT TO THE INFINITI CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT FOR SOME RESOLUTION TO WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER A TRAVESTY AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST ME IN THIS MATTER CITING TWO REASONS - (1) NOT BEING A LOYAL CUSTOMER OF INFINITI BECAUSE MY LAST SERVICE VISIT WAS IN 2009 AND (2) THE VEHICLE IS WAY OUTSIDE THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. I THEN DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE TO SEE IF I WAS THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS CAR THAT WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I FOUND NUMEROUS POSTINGS, MOST OF WHICH CLAIM THAT NISSAN IS FULLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT THEY ARE TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE. *TR

FIRST DEFECT: WHEN I WOULD START MY CAR THE LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT AND THE RADIO, HEATING AND COOLING BUTTONS. THE FAN WOULD COME ONTO HIGH AND SWITCH TO AIRCONDITIONING. I COULD NOT TURN IT DOWN OR TURN IT OFF OR TURN ON MY DEFROSTER WHEN IT WAS 30 DEGREES IN THE MORNING WHICH MADE MY VISIBILITY VERY POOR. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS TO STOP WAS TO PULL THE FUSES. WE CHECK THE RECALL HISTORY AND FOUND THAT IT WAS ONLY A COURTESY RECALL AND WOULDN'T BE COVERED EVEN AFTER READING THAT HUNDREDS OF G35 OWNERS WERE ALL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WE HAD TO HAVE THE RADIO ELECTRONICS REMOVED FROM THE CAR AND SENT OUT TO BE FIXED. I THINK THIS ISSUE WOULD BE CONSISTED A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE HEAT OR A DEFROSTER. SECOND DEFECT: THE PROBLEM STARTED WHILE THE CAR WAS IDLING AND IT WOULD STALL. THEN 3 DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING AT 50MPH THE CAR TRIED TO STALL AND IT LOST ALL POWER AND THEN THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON INDICATING SERVICE NEEDED. THE CAR SEEM TO LACK POWER. DID A RECALL CHECK AND FOUND THAT ALL THE CONDITIONS POINTED TO THE CAM SHAFT POSITION CENSOR FAILING. WE CHECKED THE VIN# AND OF COURSE MY CAR ISN'T ONE THAT IS ON THEIR RECALL LIST FOR THE SAME PROBLEM THEY HAVE ON OTHER G35 MODELS. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WHEN YOU STALL AND HAVE NO CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. EVERY ISSUE I HAVE HAD WITH MY CAR HAS BEEN ON THE COMPANIES RECALL LIST BUT NOT MY VIN # FOR SOME REASON. THIS ISSUE TO NEED TO REVIEWED AND CORRECTED. THIRD DEFECT: WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE MOTOR REPLACED TWICE IN THE DRIVERS DOOR THAT OPERATES THE ELECTRIC WINDOW. NOW THE RIGHT DOOR WINDOW IS NOT WORKING. IF IT DOES OPEN IT WILL GET STUCK AND WE HAVE TROUBLE GETTING IT TO COME UP. WE HAVE TO KEEP IT LOCKED TO AVOID IT BEING OPENED. *TR *JS

THE CULPRIT ARE EITHER THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH I HAD ALREADY REPLACE THREE YEARS BACK, THE 2 CAM POSITION SENSORS AND CRANK POSITION SENSOR. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE CAM POSITION SENSORS AND CRANK POSITION SENSOR. I'M HOPING THAT MY VIN# IS PART OF THAT RECALL. THE SECOND ISSUE I HAVE BEEN HAVING WITH THIS CAR IS THE RADIO AND TEMPERATURE CONTROL. THAT I RECENTLY HAD CHANGED WITH THE FACTORY RADIO ATTACHED TO THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL. THE RADIO WOULD STOP WORKING. I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL AND THE AC UNIT WOULD TURN ON BY IT SELF. I RECENTLY JUST INSTALLED AN AFTER MARKET RADIO. WITH EVERYTHING AFTER BUYING WHAT WAS REQUIRED TO DO A DOUBLE DIN CONVERSION AND INSTALLATION. IT COST ME A GOOD AMOUNT OF MONEY. ANOTHER ISSUE THIS CAR HAS IS THE SEAT BELT ISSUE. IT DOESN'T RETRACT PROPERLY AND THE PASSENGER SIDE IT'S A CHORE JUST TRYING TO PUT ON THE SEAT BELT. *TR

I WENT HOME AND I PLANNED ON TAKING MY CAR TO THE INFINITI SERVICE CENTER THE NEXT DAY. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE INFINIT SERVICE CENTER I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO REPLACED. I REPLACED IT THAT DAY AND THEN SEVEN MONTHS LATER IN NOVEMBER MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO REPLICATE THE SAME MALFUNCTIONS. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY BATTERY BECAUSE I HAD JUST HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED. SO I BOUGHT ANOTHER BATTERY, BUT MY CAR CONTINUED TO NOT START AT RANDOM TIMES. THEREFORE, I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK UP TO THE INFINITI SERVICE CENTER I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAMSHAFT POSITION B2 WENT OUT. THIS SENSOR HAD A VOLUNTARY REPLACEMENT FROM INFINITI ON THE SAME YEAR MODEL CAR, EXCEPT OUR VIN NUMBER FALLS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE RANGE. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT SHOULD BE EXPANDED, AS THIS CAN CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT SHOULD IT FAIL AT THE WRONG TIME. THE CAR DIES, WHICH MEANS YOU LOSE THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE AT THE DEALERSHIP ONLY AFTER PUTTING UP A FIGHT. I JUST BOUGHT A USED 2003 INFINITI G35 A FEW MONTHS AGO. I BELIEVE I AM THE FOURTH OWNER. IT HAS RUN IMMACULATE UNTIL THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS. FOR SOME REASON THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM TAKES ITSELF INTO AUTO MODE AND THE RADIO LIGHTS GO OUT, ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE LIGHTS ON THE PANEL THAT CONTROL THE AC FUNCTIONS. I CANNOT USE ANY OF THOSE BUTTONS TO CHANGE ANYTHING. THE RADIO CONTINUES TO WORK AND I CAN STILL USE THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS TO ADJUST THE RADIO, BUT I CAN NO LONGER SEE THE LIGHTS THAT TELL WHAT STATION IT'S ON NOR ADJUST ANYTHING FROM THE PANEL. THE AC GOES OUT OF MANUAL MODE INTO AUTO MODE, WHICH IF I UNDERSTAND IT CORRECTLY, AUTO IS A NORMAL FUNCTION, ADJUSTING ITSELF TO MAINTAIN WHATEVER TEMPERATURE YOU HAVE IT SET AT, BUT THE FACT THAT I CANNOT CHANGE IT BACK TO MANUAL MODE, NOR ANYTHING ELSE ON MY OWN AFTER IT GOES IN THAT MODE, AND TURNS OUT THE PANEL LIGHTS, MAKES ME THINK THIS IS NOT RIGHT. THANK GOD IT IS DEFAULTING TO ON AS IT IS SUMMERTIME AND OVER 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE, BUT STILL GETS VERY COLD AND IS LOUD AT FULL BLAST. TOOK TO INFINITI DEALER AND THEY STATED THE ERROR WAS P0340 AND CAM SHAFT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, $600. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL BUT WAS TOLD BY DEALER MY VIN DID NOT FIT WITHIN RECALL NUMBERS. IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF RESEARCH ON WEB, I FOUND PROBABLY 10-15 OTHER OWNERS OF G35 COUPES THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE AND INFINITI IS SAYING, SORRY, BUT YOUR VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. I CALLED INFIINITI, THEY STATED THAT EXACTLY AND THERE WAS NO REMEDY OTHER THAN PAYING FOR REPAIR OURSELVES. IT IS A SCARY, DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT OBVIOUSLY WAS NOT CORRECTED, OR ANOTHER ISSUES AROSE, WITH THE RECALL. A G35 COUPE IS A SMALL, LOW-RIDING CAR, AND I HAVE A CHILD IN THE BACK. IF YOU ARE GOING AT INTERSTATE SPEED WITH A SEMI ON YOUR TAIL AND YOUR CAR STALLS, YOUR CHILD IN THE BACK, AND POSSIBLY YOURSELF, WOULD NOT SURVIVE THIS CRASH. INFINITI SAID, YES, THEY DID HAVE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, BUT STILL WOULD NOT REMEDY. I ASKED IF A PERSON HAS TO DIE BEFORE THEY ADMIT THERE IS A DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. AT THE DEALER, THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULT CRANK POSITION SENSOR, WHICH WAS A KNOWN ISSUE ON MY CAR. HOWEVER, MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN (01V35700) FOR THIS ISSUE. THE DEALER SERVICED MY VEHICLE BY REPLACING THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF $334.65. I HAVE CONTACTED INFINITI AND THEY WERE UNWILLING TO REIMBURSE MY SERVICE UNDER THE EARLIER RECALL CAMPAIGN. I AM WRITING TO NOTIFY NHTSA OF THIS INCIDENT SO IT IS IN YOUR DATABASE.
