RECALL - NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 03V455000. ENGINE STOPPED WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CONDITIONS WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. LOSS COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE "SLIP" LIGHT, "TCS OFF" AND "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" ALL CAME ON WITH COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING WITH NO ABILITY TO REGAIN CONTROL. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A CODE "P0340" - CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILURE. INFINITI CORPORATE HAD ISSUED A RECALL # R3021 FOR THIS MAJOR ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED INFINITI CORPORATE TO TAKE PART OF THIS SERIOUS RECALL AND SERVICE MY VEHICLE, THEY DID NOT WANT TO HELP CLAIMING THAT THEY DID NOT MARK MY VIN # FOR THE RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH MOST INFINITI I35'S AND MANY NISSANS AS WELL. INFINITI SEEMS TO NOT CARE AND HAS PUT MY LIFE IN COMPLETE JEOPARDY. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WHICH RESUME NORMAL FUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE. WE WERE DRIVING LOCALLY AT NORMAL SPEED AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AS THOUGH WE RAN OUT OF GAS. WE WERE ABLE TO SLIDE SOMEWHAT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER A WHILE, THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST SOME KIND OF FLUKE. WE ARE SENIOR CITIZENS AND DO NOT DRIVE A GREAT DEAL HOWEVER WE THOUGHT ALL WAS WELL AND IN AUGUST WE ROAD ON THE HIGHWAY 95 TO CONNECTICUT AND THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AFTER WE ARRIVED AND WERE PULLING INTO A LOCAL MALL, ONCE AGAIN WE HAD TO BE TOWED. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TO US ON 95 WE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED IN THIS AREA LOCALLY AND THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED, AT NIGHT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND AND A TOW TRUCK HAD TO BE CALLED AND THE CAR TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION. THE NEXT DAY WE SPOKE TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID HE DROVE THE CAR ALL OVER AND DID TESTING AND FOUND NOTHING. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER. MY DAUGHTER OFTEN HAS HER BABY IN THE CAR AND SO EVEN MORE DANGER IS INVOLVED. I WAS DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY WITH MY FAMILY AND I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX 60 MPH. OUT OF NO WHERE A TCS AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON THE I DECREASED TO 5 MPH WITHOUT WARNING AND COULDN'T GO FASTER. I HAD MY FOOT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE PEDAL AND VEHICLE WOULDN'T DRIVE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A CAMSHAFT SENSOR ISSUE FROM WHAT I SEE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BUT I'M BEING TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AN AFFECTED CAR. OTHERS HAVE ALL HAD THE SAME HAPPEN WITH THIS SAME VEHICLE AND I FIND IT STRANGE THAT BECAUSE OUR VIN NUMBERS WEREN'T RECALLED THAT WE ARE OUT OF LUCK. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES THROTTLE CONTROL UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS; THE ENGINE RETURN TO "IDLE SPEED". I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN. I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN BUT THE CAR REFUSED TO ACCELERATE. THE THROTTLE BODY HAS BEEN REPLACED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR; THE THROTTLE BODY CONTAINS THE ELECTRIC ACTUATOR FOR THE THROTTLE AND THE SENSORS THAT TELL THE COMPUTER THE POSITION OF THE THROTTLE. I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE IT COULD SUDDENLY "CUT OUT" AND LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AND, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE THIS TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE CAM POSITION SENSOR. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE REPAIR. APPROXIMATELY TEN MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE WHAT REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECALL # 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 103,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
