I WAS TRAVELING DOWN I-85 N BOUND DOING ABOUT 65 IN THE MIDDLE LANE WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN THE RPM DROPPED ALL THE WAY OUT AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AS IF IT CUT OFF LEAVING ME IN SHOCK BECAUSE I HAD NO WAY OF GETTING OVER TO GET OFF ON THE SHOULDER.AFTER TAKING IT TO A SHOP I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE CAM AND CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS AND THAT I NEED TO CONTACT INFINITI BEFORE PAYING TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED BECAUSE IT WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, SO I CONTACT THE INFINITI DEALER AND THE LADY I SPOKE WITH INFORMED ME THAT IT HAS NEVER BEEN A RECALL FOR ANY ISSUE ON THIS CAR AND THAT SINCE THE CAR WAS 10 YEARS OLD THAT WAS A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR SHUTTING DOWN WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE,. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 INFINITI M45. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR AND THE CAM POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED BOTH SENSORS. AFTER REPLACING BOTH SENSORS, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HAD A DIFFERENT CAM POSITION SENSOR REPLACED. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,000.

ON THE FREEWAY WITH THE WIFE, AT ~60 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLS, CHARACTERISTICS VERY SIMILAR TO RECALL. HAD TO PUT INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART CAR ON THE FLY TO AVOID A MAJOR ACCIDENT. SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES, LUCKILY WHILE AT A STOP. CONTACTED INFINITY AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VIN ON MY CAR WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL, ALTHOUGH I HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUES. (EVEN A CAMSHAFT SENSOR CODE POPPED UP SINCE AND HAVE HAD AN ISSUE TURNING THE ENGINE FROM A COLD START ONCE ALREADY). MY CAR ALSO SUFFERS FROM THE INFAMOUS FUEL GAUGE ISSUE WHICH INFINITI DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A RECALL FOR YET. CONSEQUENCES: THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. EVEN THOUGH FUEL GAUGE SHOWS A FULL TANK OF GAS THE TANK WAS ACTUALLY EMPTY AND I RAN OUT OF GAS. THIS WAS VERY INCONVENIENT BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS FOR EVERY PASSENGER IN THE CAR, HAD I BEEN ON THE FREEWAY OR OTHER ROADS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED TO SUDDENLY BE OUT OF GAS. ONE OTHER RELATED ISSUE IS THE ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT. TRIED TO GET THE VEHICLE SMOGGED BUT WAS TOLD THAT A FEW CODES CAME UP ON THE METER. ONE WAS CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. ONE OTHER ONE SHOWED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT/SENSOR TO BE FAULTY. IN REGARDS TO THIS ISSUE, IT WOULD SEEM THAT JUST REPLACING THE SENDING UNIT MAY NOT BE A GUARANTEE THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WILL PROPERLY FUNCTION. MY 2003 INFINITI M45 ENGINE STOPPED DURING OPERATION WHICH WAS VERY CONCERNING AT THE TIME DUE TO MY FINANCE AND CHILD BOTH IN THE CAR. THIS HAS BEEN THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE FIRST OCCURRED AFTER THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURE DEALERSHIP THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENGINE TO CORRECT ISSUE. THAT WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE OPTION SO I TOOK IT ANOTHER SMALLER AUTO SHOP TO GET A SECOND OPINION. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS ENGINE PROBLEM WITH THE CAM SHAFT SENOR AND THE TIMING BELTS. I DECIDE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE VEHICLE. THE CAR FIRST HAD ENGINE FAILURE IN APR 10. I TOOK TO A AUTO SHOP AND THE CAM SHAFT SENSORS WAS REPLACED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. CODE P0021 WAS NOT ABLE TO BE CLEARED SO THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND EXPERIENCED NO ISSUES UNTIL SEPT 10. THE CAR ENGINE STOP WORKING AGAIN DURING VEHICLE OPERATION IN SEPT 10. I RECENTLY CAME ACROSS A RECALL FOR 2003 INFINITI M45 THAT DESCRIBED SIMILAR ISSUES TO WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD BY THE INFINITI DEALERSHIP THAT MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE PROBLEMS ARE SIMILAR TO WAS IS LISTED IN THIS ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING RECALL. THANK YOU. *TR
