While driving, the vehicle displayed an engine malfunction warning followed by a low oil pressure warning. I pulled over and waited. The oil level was checked and was not empty. The warning lights briefly went out, but shortly afterward the engine lost power. When attempting to restart the vehicle, the engine began knocking. The vehicle became inoperable and required towing. This was a sudden engine failure with no prior indication of oil loss, leak, or neglect. This created a safety concern due to sudden loss of power while driving.
The car died suddenly while driving. The battery is only a few months old. Prior to dying a few warning lamps suddenly came on but there was no prior warning. The engine did not overheat, there was no smoke, or check engine light until the car suddenly died. I have been advised that I need a new engine. I have been researching and it appears many others have similar issues with their Infiniti engines. Its [XXX] Please look into this. It’s odd to me that so many folks engines have died at what is actually low mileage. It’s also pretty frustrating and depressing, the repairs can go up to the cost of a new vehicle, when this appears to be a design flaw. I’m starting to meet way to many folks whose Infiniti or Nissan suddenly needs a new trans or engine as soon as the warranty ends. Timing chain completely went when I had been complaining of a noise while it was under warranty. I was stranded on the side of the road. The starter completely went while driving. Now, I am told the transfer case is bad and I had to pull on side of road to a repair shop.
About a year ago, I was driving about 80 mph and the dash lights and radio just died, then within seconds everything came back on. It only happened that one time. The other day, I was on a busy highway headed home when my battery light came on. I just replaced both the alternator and battery less than a year ago. I started inching over to the left land (just in case) when the car just died and I had to coast to a stop in the middle of the highway WITH MY 3 KIDS!!! The police came and I was able to start the car and pull it on the shoulder, then a tow truck came and dropped it off at Infiniti. They had my car for 2 days and couldn't find anything and they told me to come and pick it up. Within 30 minutes of me picking it up, it did the same thing so I took it right back to Infiniti and dropped it off. Today, they called me and it was finally doing what I said it was doing. Battery light, electrical cuts off and car just dies.
On [XXX] took the car into the Infiniti dealership for the routine oil change with potential issue with timing chain noise on cold startup. The dealership explained that the warranty will not cover drivetrain. After the oil change and driving the car back home, the “check engine” light came on. I contacted infiniti regarding the drivetrain problems that consumers are seeing with this engine and CVT. The chain noise I hear and the video I shared during our appointment. Many are reporting the timing chain noise, sludge and CVT problems, starting at 85k miles. I wasn’t happy with Infiniti response on life of a drivetrain. Why would anyone pay $60k on a car if you its design to run only 100k miles, I would have purchased a $20k car instead. In fact, I have a Acura RDX with 200k miles with no drivetrain issues. " Email send to infiniti consumer affairs. Hello Dennis, Per our conversation regarding the powertrain warranty and my concern regarding industrial standard of a premium luxury vehicle design and life. I don’t agree with Infiniti position that at 135K miles is a full life of an engine and the problems with powertrain ( P0017 and 17F1CVT) is a common issue. No other vehicle will have engine failure and transmission failure at 135K miles. I have other vehicle that drive beyond 250K miles ( (Nissan Maxima and Acura RDX at 200k miles), that had routine maintenance and repair, but never engine or transmission problem. I perform regular maintenance on all my cars since age 16. It’s a shame that a high end vehicle customer has to face these major repair. I believe the 2017 infinti Qx60 with CVT is a faulty design. It is a design related issue, which Infiniti should recall and correct. Many of the Infiniti consumer forums that I have read on this subject, suggest a similar performance and potential disaster at 90-120K miles. Vehicle began ticking in early 2023. Then received check engine light and trouble codes P0014 and P0017. Took to Infiniti dealership. Dealership claimed "sludge - you did not change oil regularly, " which I did - either at Valvoline, Wal-Mart, or by myself. Multiple online forums about Infiniti QX60 indicate all the dealership mechanics are saying the SAME thing to customers who are having this issue. Dealership claimed vehicle would need NEW engine priced at over $17,000!! They are doing this nationwide and globally. Infiniti KNOWS there is an engine defect leading to sludge and failed engine. My engine did fail in April 2024, but thankfully in my home driveway and not at high speeds - this would have been deadly had it happened on a major highway!
The car starts when it wants to and doesn't when it wants to. Sometimes a few hours later it will start others a day or 2... nothing comes up when scanning, no codes. What is the deal?
The vehicle needs a completely new engine and I had made it known that I want to trade in the vehicle the very next day but was told that I need to wait until 30 days has past. I have reached out to the Loan institution and have documentation provided below of that INFINITI database in November of 2023 that this same vehicle needed a new engine. Both my children were hospitalized for breathing in these toxic vapors that were released from the tailpipe of the vehicle to which HGREG said they resolved and did not, as soon as vehicle started up the whole dealership came outside thinking someone's vehicle was on fire. Both my children are age 2 1/2 and 11 months old. Both were on breathing treatments due to the level of carbon monoxide released in vehicle while driving.
My vehilce only has 31000 miles on it and the cooling fan went out, was not due to anything that I did driving wise. When I called Infiniti Warranty Divison in Franklin Tennessee they said they are aware of the complaints by other customers they said they issued a technical bullentin ITB17-048 but said there was no reason for a recall but they deemed it necassry to make a design change which fixed this problem and also required a module change also. They said they are not responsible for the problem, but if that is true then why did they make the design change. So any owners with old design will have an issue and will have to replace the unit. So I am glad that I was not on the road driving and would have been stuck in the heat trying to get the car repaired. There was no warnings about the issues and even though they may the dealers aware of the issue no notice was sent owners. Please review the number of complaints that were made online about this issue. Feel like they just took advantage of me because this was not a problem I created but was due to poor design. Also the cooling fans are no longer made of metal but of plastic, what is life expectancy of this part.
Driving West on I8 from AZ into San Diego my vehicle would lose all ability to accelerate and start decelerating on the upward climbs of the Crestwood Summit highway pass through the Cuyamaca Mountains. Not only it would continue to lose complete driving power and we had to pull over many time to turn the car off and let it sit for 10 minutes. It was not over heated and no lights were on with any indication of failure. During decents and on plateaus it resumed its completely normal functioning. I immediately brought it in to Oceanside CA Infiniti where they told me they don’t know what it wrong so they can’t fix it and I have to basically drive back to AZ through the mountains again and break down (it’s 115 degrees and almost 1.5 hours in both directions to any town) to figure out what was wrong. It’s incredibly dangerous and clearly not safe
We bought the car used at about 24,000 miles. No engine lights were on. After about a month of owning it smoke would come from the exhaust when started. Took it in to be look at and was told it was a fuel injector and it was replaced. No more issues for about 6 months when it suddenly lost power on the interstate at dawn barley made it to the side of the road without getting ran over. Had to have it towed to a shop where I was told it was a bad coil and they replaced it. Went to pick the car up and less than a mile down the road it lost power again. Took it down for Infiniti to look at it. They said it had previously had engine sludge and that the warranty was voided because of it. After online searches, this seems to be a regular occurrence for this year and model. They recommend a new Engine for $14,000. Now stuck with a vehicle that won’t run with a monthly payment I’m making on it.
2017 INFINIT QX60. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE CONSUMER STATED ON OCCASION, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED HESITATION WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FROM A STOP.
While driving the car the engine suddenly stopped completely and we rolled the car to the side of the road. Had this happened on the highway a bit earlier it could have been a major accident as it was snowing heavily and there were snow plows and semis at high speeds. For the next 15 min the car would start and engine would stop on trying to accelerate. After raising the engine in reverse the car stayed on and we were able to come home. (I found across similar experiences from other Infiniti owners online.) Note : at a little over 70K mile the car had an issue where the acceleration suddenly dropped while driving. Dealer told us the engine was shot and we had to replace the engine. The new current engine also had some instances of erratic acceleration but dealer said no issue was found on diagnostics.
We bought the car used at 63,000 miles (approx.). At 65,000 (approx.) the engine will not crank. No engine lights were on. Infiniti will not acknowledge warranty due to engine sludge even though it has been maintained. After online searches, this seems to be a regular occurrence for this model and year.
I bought my QX60 2017 in April of 2021. fine til wk 2 experienced electrical issues liftgate stops going up or down randomly, hesitation in the acceleration when pulling into traffic (quite scary when you almost get rammed). concerns told to dealership stated I needed to change key fob battery. I already had and it was fine. They insisted I cchangeit so I did.. Not the issue. So I made an appt to have concerns checked.. ie transmission hesitation and electrical . I brought it in got a loaner. Many days later it was ready and I could pick it up they could find no issues they fixed nothing but the groan in the gas tank that's it. They said they couldn't duplicate it. So I reiterated to them to make sure that they understood that it was done at random and it's still being done at random months later. So I brought the car home and I've just been dealing with it not knowing what else to do cuz if they don't take the car and actually drive it like it's their own they probably won't experience it just driving around the parking lot. And even though they had it a week and could have done that I guess they didn't. Well then back in the end of August beginning of September my car wouldn't start I had to put the key fob next to the button in order to start it which I didn't figure out till later lots of electrical things were happening at that point added to what I already had so I brought it to them and they said it was the battery it was under warranty so they changed and explain that that should take care of all of my issues and if not bring it back in. So I've made another appointment for today and I'm bringing it back in because the hesitation is still there there's more electrical issues there's always been a Bluetooth electrical issue there's now rear camera, volume sometimes work sometimes blows your ears out, vibration in engine compartment, unlock door open door it sounds unlocking again repeatedly repeatedly and liftgate still
