TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 ISUZU RODEO. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING ROUTINE SERVICE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND KEPT REFERRING THE CONTACT TO DEALERS THAT NO LONGER SERVICED ISUZU VEHICLES. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.

HAD ISUZU DO THE RECALL A FEW YEARS AGO AND I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY DIDN'T BUY BACK THIS VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS 78K MILES ON IT AND IN PRISTINE SHAPE OTHER THAN THE FRAME. I DONT KNOW HOW THEY HAVE NOT BEEN SUED FOR THIS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME HAD SEVERELY RUSTED AND CAUSED THE REAR OF THE FRAME TO SEPARATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,169.

MY FRIEND [XXX] AND I WERE RETURNING HOME FROM SHOPPING IN TOWN. HIT A SMALL POTHOLE ON SPRING STREET IN VERNON, CT ABOUT 5 PM. TOOK A LEFT TURN DOWN A HILL AND HEARD SCRAPING SOUND OUTSIDE THE CAR.I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE, ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND EXAMINED THE WHEELS. THE REAR LEFT TIRE WAS SCRAPING AGAINST THE MUD GUARD. I WAS WITHIN .2 MI. FROM HOME AND DROVE THERE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. ON CLOSER INSPECTION WE DISCOVERED THAT THE SHOCK/STRUT HAD SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME, AND THAT BOTH PARTS WERE BADLY RUSTED. SINCE THE LEFT REAR WHEEL IS NOT SAFELY CONNECTED TO THE FRAME, MY STEERING WAS AFFECTED, ESPECIALLY WHEN BRAKING. THANK GOD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AT HIGH SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY OR INVOLVE INJURIES OR AN ACCIDENT. MY BLIND WIFE AND I ARE BOTH DISABLED ON SSD AND DO NOT HAVE THE MEANS TO FIX OR REPLACE THIS VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE EXACT ISSUE. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE RECALL. THE REASON GIVEN WAS THE VEHICLE WAS REGISTERED IN ARIZONA, A STATE THAT DID NOT USE CHEMICALS DURING THE WINTER ROAD PREP. IN THE EVENT OF A REAR END COLLISION IT COULD BE VERY SERIOUS AS NUMEROUS PLACES IN FRAME YOU CAN POKE YOUR FINGER THROUGH. I PULLED IT OFF AND MANY LARGE PIECES OF RUST FELL OFF OF THE RODEO. I NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS EXTREMELY RUSTING. I WAS ABLE TO POKE MY FINGER THROUGH THE FRAME IN MANY PLACES. THE CAR IS NOW PARKED IN MY GARAGE AS IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT ISUZU HAS NOT BEEN FORCED TO RECALL ALL OF THESE VEHICLES. I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT RELATED TO THE USE OF LAMINATED STEEL FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE FRAMES AND THE RELATED CORROSION PROBLEMS. *TR

FRAME IS EXTREMELY CORRODED BEHIND THE REAR AXLE. SO EXTENSIVE THAT I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE IT. I HAD IT TOWED TO ISUZU REPAIR SHOP OVER A YEAR AGO UNDER THE RECALL. THEY SPRAYED THE CONTROL ARMS IN FRONT OF THE REAR AXLE WITH A RUST INHIBITOR. AT THAT TIME I ASKED ABOUT THE REAR OF THE FRAME AS IT HAD MANY HOLES IN IT. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED. I TOOK THE SPARE TIRE OFF TO CHANGE A TIRE THE OTHER DAY AND LOOKING UP I NOTICED THAT THE FRAME IS LITERALLY MISSING IN THE REAR ON BOTH SIDES. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS HOLDING THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE ON. *TR

MORE OF LESS THEY TOLD ME WE DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED TO FIND A REPLACEMENT PART BUT ISUZU STATED THEY NO LONGER MAKE THE PART. UNABLE TO FINE PART ONLINE OR IN ANY JUNK YARDS. *TR

WHILE ROTATING THE TIRES, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE ENTIRE REAR FRAME OF THE CAR WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND CRACKING. THIS CAR HAD A RECALL IN 2010 THAT WAS RELATED TO CORROSION AND THE DEALER THAT DID THE INSPECTION AND "REPAIR" ONLY APPLIED AN ANTI-CORROSIVE COMPOUND TO THE REAR LINKAGE WHERE IT ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. WE KNEW THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTING SEVERELY AT THAT TIME AND MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALER. HE SAID THE RECALL ONLY INVOLVED THE LINKAGE AND NOT THE FRAME. NOW THE FRAME IS SO CORRODED THAT THERE IS NO WAY IT CAN BE REINFORCED BECAUSE THERE IS NO METAL LEFT TO TAKE A WELD. THE WHOLE FRAME WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT CONSIDERABLE COST. THERE IS LOW MILEAGE ON OUR CAR AND OUTWARDLY APPEARS PRISTINE. WE DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE DEALER WOULDN'T REPORT THE FRAME DAMAGE AS THE LINKAGE WOULD SOON FAIL IF THE FRAME ROTTED AWAY! WE WOULD HAVE TAKEN A BUY BACK AT THAT TIME IF IT HAD BEEN OFFERED AS STATED IN THE RECALL NOTICE AS FOLLOWS: "ISUZU WILL NOTIFY OWNERS BY MAIL, AND START THE RECALL EITHER IN LATE JULY OR EARLY AUGUST, ACCORDING TO A COMPANY SPOKESPERSON. THE NHTSA ACKNOWLEDGED THE RECALL IN A LETTER TO ISUZU ON FRIDAY. AT THE DEALERSHIP, INSPECTIONS AND REPAIRS WILL BE FREE OF CHARGE, AS LONG AS THE AFFECTED SUV IS NO MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD. SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS AND RULES MAY APPLY TO VEHICLES OLDER THAN TEN YEARS. VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED FOR SIGNS OF CORROSION. IF LITTLE OR NO CORROSION IS FOUND, THE AREA WILL BE TREATED WITH AN ANTI-CORROSIVE COMPOUND. FOR VEHICLES WITH CORROSION THAT HAS DAMAGED THE REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK BRACKET AND HINDERED THE CONNECTION TO THE VEHICLE FRAME, A REINFORCEMENT BRACKET WILL INSTALLED. IF THE DAMAGE IS BEYOND REPAIR, ISUZU WILL OFFER TO REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE BASED ON THE KELLEY BLUE BOOK "PRIVATE PARTY" PRICE." WE FEEL ISUZU SHOULD MAKE GOOD ON THE REPURCHASE AS THE "REPAIR" WAS A JOKE. *TR

2001 ISUZU RODE FRAME RUST ISSUE: THE 2010-2011 RECALL FOR RUSTED REAR SUSPENSION COMPONENTS DID NOT GO FAR ENOUGH. THE ENTIRE UNDER CARRIAGE IS RUSTING AWAY ON THESE VEHICLES - UNLIKE ANYTHING I HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE. NHTSA NEEDS TO RE-OPEN THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN AND GET THESE VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD WITH A FORCED BUY-BACK BY ISUZU. THE REMAINDER OF THE VEHICLE IS IN RELATIVELY GOOD SHAPE FOR A 12 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH ONLY 76,000 MILES. THE SAME VEHICLES WITH THIS MILEAGE BUT WITHOUT THE RUST ISSUES HAVE A RESALE VALUE OF $5,000 OR MORE, WHILE THE RUSTED ONES ARE WORTHLESS AND DANGEROUS. ISUZU NEEDS TO BUY THESE BACK. *TR

I OWN A 2001 ISUZU RODEO LS 4X4. UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2011 THAT BECAUSE WE LIVED WITHIN A STATE WHICH WAS CONSIDERED IN THE SNOW/SALT BELT REGION OF OUR COUNTRY WHERE SALT IS USED. THE SALT CAUSED EXCESSIVE CORROSION TO THE CONTROL BRACKETS BEHIND THE REAR WHEELS OF OUR CAR. WE NEEDED TO HAVE NEW SUPPORT BRACKETS INSTALLED AND A RUSTPROOFING SPRAY APPLIED TO OUR CAR. WE HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE WHICH WAS A #3 REPAIR ON 12/2/2011. WE THOUGHT THE DANGEROUS SITUATION WAS RESOLVED UNTIL WE RECENTLY BROUGHT OUR CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WERE TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH IN MANY SPOTS AND LITERALLY CRUMBLING WHEN YOU TOUCH IT. THE CAR IS GOING TO FALL RIGHT OFF THE FRAME. THEY SAID THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ANYMORE. WE TRUSTED THEM AS THEY HAD NOTHING TO GAIN BY INFORMING US OF THE SITUATION. WE HAD A DIFFERENT MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND THEY TOLD US THE EXACT SAME THING, I CONTACTED ISUZU TO REPORT THE ISSUE AND I WAS TREATED VERY RUDELY AND THE CONSUMER SUPPORT PERSON WAS VERY DEFENSIVE WHICH MADE ME WONDER IF ALOT OF PEOPLE WERE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES? WHILE ONLINE, I FOUND THOUSAND OF COMPLAINTS, ALL WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR OF ISUZU. THE ISUZU REPRESENTATIVE SAID THEY ARE ONLY RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THE PARTS THAT WERE RECALLED AND NOTHING ELSE EVEN THOUGH HE ADMITTED TO BIGGER CORROSION COMPLAINTS SUCH AS MINE. I THEN ASKED WHAT THEY INTENDED TO DO ABOUT THIS HIGHLY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND HE RUDELY SAID THAT ISUZU ISN'T RESPONSIBLE! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. I GUESS BECAUSE THEY NO LONGER HAVE ANY DEALERSHIPS OPEN, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. AFTER READING OTHER COMPLAINTS, THERE HAVE BEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE DRIVING WHEN THE CAR DID FALL OFF THE FRAME AND CAUSED THEM TO SWERVE AT HIGH SPEEDS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT STARTED ASAP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED. *TR

THE ISUZE DEALER INSTALLED THE STABILIZING BRACKETS ON THE REAR SUSPENSION, DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST. NOW, TODAY AS I AM PAYING A MECHANIC FOR A NEW STARTER, HE INFORMS ME THE THERE ARE LARGE HOLES IN THE FRONT AND BACK PART OF THE FRAME. HE ALSO SAID IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE ISUZE DEALER NEVER TOLD US ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE VEHICLE WHEN THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED.THIS IS MY KIDS CAR AND I WON'T ALOW THEM TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE. *TR

HOWEVER, WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF ANY ADDITIONAL RUST THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE FRAME IN THE FRONT AND BACK. TODAY, WE HAD THE RODEO IN TO HAVE A NEW STARTER PUT IN AND THE MECHANIC TELL US THAT THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS IS MY SON'S CAR AND HE IS IN COLLEGE AND DOES NOT HAVE A WAY OF GETTING TO CLASS, ANY LONGER. *TR

THE NEXT DAY MY SONS PUT THE CAR ON THE JACK STANDS THINKING MAYBE THE STRUT CAME OFF. WHEN THEY GOT UNDER THE CAR THE FOUND THAT THE FRAME OF THE CAR HAD RUSTED THROUGH. WHEN I HAD LOOKED THE CAR UP ON LINE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR IN REGARDS TO THAT ISSUE I DID FIND A RECALL ON THE RUST ISSUE. I STARTED CALLING THE NUMBER AND LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES. I FINALLY GOT THROUGH ON JANUARY THE 5TH AND THEY TELL ME THAT IT HAD CLOSED BUT IF I WANTED TO GET IT TO AN ISUZU DEALER AT MY COST THAT IS OVER 2 HOURS AWAY AND PAY FOR THE TEST THEY MAY BE ABLE TO DO SOMETHING OR GO AFTER THE PERSON BECAUSE THEY MAY HAVE KNOWN. I FEEL THIS WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE AND SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. I LOVED MY CAR AND NOW HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION. I BOUGHT MY 2001 ISUZU RODEO NEW. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2010 ABOUT THE SUSPENSION BRACKETS IN THE REAR HAVING A RUST PROBLEM. I HAD THE RECALL INSPECTION DONE AND THE ISUZU SERVICE CENTER TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE AND THEY APPLIED SOME RUST INHIBITOR. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP IN AUG 2012 FOR BRAKE WORK AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN FRONT AND BEHIND THE REAR WHEELS WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED WITH NUMEROUS RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME. THE FRAME WAS SO RUSTED IN NUMEROUS SPOTS THAT YOU COULD PUSH YOUR FINGER THROUGH THE FRAME AND IT WOULD CRUMBLE UNDER THE PRESSURE. I CALLED ISUZU AND THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER THEY DIRECTED ME TO. AT THIS CENTER I WAS TOLD THAT MY RUST WAS CONSIDERED A LEVEL 3 INCIDENT. ISUZU TOLD THE REPAIR SHOP TO DO A LEVEL 3 FIX. THAT INCLUDED PUTTING LARGER SUSPENSION BRACKETS ON AND COATING THE RUST WITH A RUST INHIBITOR. THEY STATED THAT THE FRAME RUST WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, ONLY THE BRACKETS. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE WERE FRAME ISSUES FOR THESE MODELS BUT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY WAS ONLY FOR THE SUSPENSION BRACKETS. THIS VEHICLE IS UNDRIVABLE IN IT'S PRESENT CONDITION WITH ALMOST NO STRENGTH LEFT IN THE REAR FRAME. I WILL HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO HAVE METAL WELDED TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO STRENGTHEN IT AND TO MAKE IT SAFE ENOUGH TO DRIVE. A VEHICLE PRODUCED IN 2001 SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS MUCH RUST DAMAGE TO THE FRAME. THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT ISUZU EVEN ACKNOWLEDGES BUT THEY ARE REFUSING TO ACCEPT MONETARY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DEFECT. AFTER LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED ME THAT HE COULDN'T REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE RUST AND WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A SPECIAL TOOL TO GET IT FIXED. AFTER WAITING A MONTH I CALLED THE ADVISOR WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE TOOL WAS IN AND THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE MY VEHICLE FOR MORE THEN A DAY TO FIX IT. SO I HAD A FRIEND FOLLOW ME IN ANOTHER VEHICLE SO THAT I COULD GET HOME. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER I GOT A CALL FROM THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMING ME THAT THE FRAME WAS TOO RUSTED TO BE REPAIRED AND WOULD BE TAKING PHOTO'S TO SEND TO ISUZU OWNER RELATIONS TO SEE WHAT COULD BE RESOLVED WITH THIS ISSUE. SO I HAD TO GET ANOTHER RIDE TO GET MY VEHICLE. THE ADVISOR ALSO INFORMED ME THAT HE DIDN'T THINK THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE BUT LET ME LEAVE WITH IT. A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER I WAS THEN INFORMED THAT MORE PICTURES NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. SO I DROVE BACK UP TO THE DEALER SHIP TO GET THIS DONE. A FEW WEEKS LATER I CALLED THE ISUZU OWNER RELATIONS ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP WILL BE DOING THE REPAIR WORK ON MY VEHICLE. I CALLED THE ISUZU DEALERSHIP AND THE ADVISOR NOW INFORMED ME THAT HE WAS ORDERED TO FIX THE ISSUE. HE WOULD NOW HAVE TO ORDER ANOTHER REPAIR KIT AND IT WOULD TAKE 2 DAYS TO FIX MY VEHICLE. I OWN A 2001 ISUZU RODEO, ON DECEMBER 24TH 2009 I HAD JUST DROPPED MY DAUGHTER OFF AND HOME AND WAS HEADED BACK TO THE STORE WHEN MY CAR STARTING ACTING FUNNY AND ALMOST FLIPPED. I RECEIVED A RECALL #10V-436 FORM IN THE MAIL FROM THE ISUZU OWNER RELATIONS CENTER 1400 S. DOUGLASS ROAD, SUITE 100 ANAHELM, CA 92806 ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 2010. IT STATED THAT I SHOULD CALL ISUZU SPECIAL ASSISTANCE CENTER TO IDENTIFY THE ISUZU SERVICE CENTER CLOSEST TO ME. I WAS TOLD THE PARTS TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY 2011. I CALLED AND AN APPOINTMENT FOR FEBRUARY 18, 2011 AT BOURNIVAL ISUZU WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW IN AUGUST 2001. THE CAR WAS DUE FOR A STICKER JANUARY 2011. JANUARY 10 2011 THIS VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE REAR LEFT SIDE TOTALING $2,800. THE SERVICE REP THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT THE FRAME IS BADLY RUSTED AND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT AREA HAS A HOLE THAT HE COULD PUT HIS FIST THROUGH, STATING THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION, AND THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WELD A PLATE TO A FRAME, RENDERING IT UNREPAIRABLE. I AM MORE THAN CONFUSED NOW BECAUSE THE DEALER IS TELLING THAT IT IS GOING TO TAKE PARTS TO FIX THE RECALL BUT ISUZU IS NOW TELLING ME THEY JUST WANT TO TREAT THE RECALL AREA WITH ANTI-CORROSION MATERIAL. THIS IS PERTAINING TO THE RECALL OF ISUZU/HONDA 98-2002 WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION LINK ARMS. I KIND OF WENT ALONG WITH THE COMPLAINTS THAT WERE ALREADY STARTED BUT THE REAL PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THE SEVERE RUST OF THE FRAMES. THE REASON THEY APPEAR TO BE SEPARATING IS BECAUSE THE FRAME THAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE WELDED TO ARE SO RUSTED THAT THERE IS NOTHING FOR THE WELD TO HOLD ONTO. THEY ARE PUTTING BRACKETS (BANDAGES) ONTO A FRAME THAT HAS HUGE RUST HOLES. MINE IS SO BAD I COULD PUSH A PENCIL THROUGH IT. YOU ALREADY HAVE PICS OF MINE FROM THE PREVIOUS RECALL. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS TOO SEVERE TO PUT A BRACKET ON AND THAT I'D BE HEARING FROM ISUZU ABOUT COMPENSATION, BUT NOW ISUZU (CORP.) IS SAYING THE BRACKETS MIGHT WORK. I OWN A 2001 ISUZU RODEO WHICH I PURCHASED NEW IN 2001, THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED AS IT SHOULD. I RECEIVED A RECALL FROM ISUZU ABOUT A FRAME ISSUE AND PROMPTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. I DROVE 90 MILES TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A 2-HOUR RECALL REPAIR, AFTER THE DEALER INSPECTION I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLES FRAME STRUCTURE WAS TO RUSTED TO BE REPAIRED WITH THE FRAME CHANNEL ISUZU PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT RELEASE THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO ISUZU'S INSTRUCTIONS. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD MOST LIKELY BE TOTALED OUT BY ISUZU AS IT WAS TO UNSAFE TO DRIVE. SINCE INSURANCE COMPANY POLICIES WILL NOT PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR FOR AUTOMOTIVE RECALLS, I HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE JUST TO MAKE MY TRIP BACK HOME, I HAD JUST BE UNEMPLOYED AFTER THE COMPANY I WORKED FOR CLOSED THEIR DOORS FOR GOOD. THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO A PREVIOUS ODI COMPLAINT - 10336610 AND IN RESPONSE TO THE VERY POOR HANDLING OF RECALL 10V-436 IN REGARDS TO MY 2001 ISUZU RODEO. I HAVE TAKEN MY RODEO TO THE DEALER AND SPOKEN WITH ISUZU WHO HAVE STATED THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO INSTALL THEIR 'RECALL BRACKETS' ONTO MY SEVERELY ROTTEN FRAME, HOWEVER, THE TRUCK WILL THEN STILL NOT PASS NYS INSPECTION AND WILL NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE. I HONESTLY FIND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WOULD EVEN BE ABLE TO ATTACH SAID BRACKET TO MY FRAME AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY 3 SEPARATE MECHANICS AND WELDING PROFESSIONALS THAT THE FRAME IS ROTTEN BEYOND REPAIR , AND THERE IS NOTHING TO ATTACH ANYTHING TO OR WELD TO AS THE METAL IS TOO DETERIORATED. HOWEVER, THE ENTIRE REAR OF THE FRAME IS RIDDLED WITH HOLES AND HEAVILY RUSTED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP THE DEALERSHIP REQUIRED SIGNATURES ON PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE TO DISCLAIM LIABILITY. ALTHOUGH THE "OFFICIAL" POSITION OF THE DEALERSHIP REMAINS NEUTRAL, WE WERE TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ISUZU OFFERED TO PURCHASE THE CAR FOR $935, STATING THEIR ONLY RESPONSIBILITY WAS FOR THE BRACKET.
RELATED TO THE ISUZU RODEO REAR AXLE BRACKET RECALL, MY RODEO EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE REMAINDER OF MY 2001 RODEO'S FRAME. BOTH MY MECHANIC ([XXX], POTTERS MILLS, PA) AND MY ISUZU REPAIR SHOP ([XXX], STATE COLLEGE, PA) SAID THE CORROSION WILL NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO PASS INSPECTION, EVEN WITH THE REAR AXLE BRACKET REMEDY PROVIDED BY ISUZU. THEREFORE, THIS IS NOT AN "APPROPRIATE" REMEDY, AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA'S "RECALL SUMMARY" ON THIS SITE. THAT SUMMARY SAYS, "IN THE RARE EVENT THE CORROSION IS SO SEVERE THAT THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKET REMEDY WOULD NOT BE APPROPRIATE, ISUZU AND HONDA WILL DEVELOP AN APPROPRIATE REMEDY." APPLYING THE REAR BRACKET REPAIR IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR TWO REASONS. FIRST, THE REPAIR CAN "BARELY" (ACCORDING TO [XXX]) BE MADE ON MY VEHICLE, AND; SECOND, THE REMAINDER OF THE FRAME (WITH THE SAME TYPE OF DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE SAME ISUZU ERROR) WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION ANYWAY. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THURSDAY MORNING BY AN ISUZU REP AT THE NUMBER LISTED IN THE SUMMARY THAT ISUZU WOULD PROVIDE "NO REMEDY" FOR ANYTHING OUTSIDE OF THE REAR BRACKET AREA DETAILED IN THE SUMMARY. ON 12/29/10 I CALLED TO FIND OUT THE STATUS OF MY VEHICLE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME WAS TOTALLY RUSTED, THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR INSTRUCTIONS FROM ISUZU. ON 01/03/11, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD, ONCE AGAIN, THAT THE FRAME WAS TOTALLY RUSTED THROUGH AND EVEN IF THEY PROCEEDED WITH THE PRESCRIBED REMEDY THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS MASSACHUSETTS INSPECTION. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THEY HAD ALSO CONTACTED ISUZU AGAIN ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THAT I TOO, SHOULD FOLLOW UP WITH ISUZU. ON 01/03/10 I EMAILED, LEFT MESSAGES, AND FINALLY WAS ABLE TO SPEAK TO A REPRESENTATIVE WHO TOOK MY NAME AND TELEPHONE NUMBER AND PROMISED A RETURN CALL FROM A MANAGER, AS OF 9 PM EST I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL BACK. IN LIGHT OF THE SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE RODEO A COMPLAINT THE NSTB IS WARRANTED. I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2001, ISUZU RODEO FROM A PRIVATE SELLER, AND AT THE TIME OF PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SEEMED LIKE IT WAS IN A MINT CONDITION. THE ENGINE LOOKED WONDERFUL AND THE OUTSIDE LOOKED LIKE IT WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. A MONTH AFTER THE PURCHASE I HAVE DECIDED TO PUT IN NEW SHOCKS ALL THE WAY AROUND. ONCE I STARTED TO LOOK UNDER THE VEHICLE AND REMOVE THE SHOCKS I HAVE COME TO DISCOVER THAT THE FRAME OF THE CAR WAS IN A TERRIBLE SHAPE. THE GUY THAT SOLD THE VEHICLE TO ME TRIED TO HIDE THE DAMAGE BY UNDERCOATING AND PUTTING (BONDO) ON THE "FRAME" TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. POKING THE FRAME WITH A SCREWDRIVER, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE HUGE HOLES IN IT AND CHUNKS OF THE FRAME ARE COMPLETELY MISSING. I WAS IN A SUCH UNBELIEVABLE SHOCK BECAUSE I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS STILL FUNCTIONAL AND WASN'T SURE WHAT WAS EXACTLY HOLDING IT UP. I CAN SAY THAT THE PERSON THAT SOLD ME THE VEHICLE HAS OBVIOUSLY TRICKED ME BUT THE DAMAGE THAT WAS ON THE CAR WAS UNBELIEVABLE. THE MECHANIC TRIED TO ORDER ME A REPLACEMENT BUT HIS SUPPLIER SAID THE PARTS ARE NO LONGER BEING MADE. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET ONE WOULD BE FROM A JUNK YARD AND MOST OF THE PARTS IN THERE WOULD MOST LIKELY BE ROTTED AS WELL. THE CORROSION WAS SO SEVERE AT THAT POINT, THAT THE BRACKET SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. THIS CAUSES THE REAR AXLE TO MOVE, RESULTING IN THE CAR STEERING WITH THE REAR WHEELS. THIS CONDITION MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR. THE CAR WAS TOWED HOME. A FEW WEEKS LATER, IT WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP FOR AN ESTIMATE. THE FRAME ON MY 2001 ISUZU RODEO LS IS RUSTED OUT BEYOND REPAIR WHERE THE TRAILING ARM ATTACHES IN THE REAR ON BOTH SIDES. I HAVE 68,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND THE REST OF THE BODY AND INTERIOR IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. THE RUST HAS ALSO CORRODED THE SHOCK MOUNT AND THE GAS TANK. I HAVE TAKEN GREAT CARE OF THIS TRUCK AND AM CAREFUL TO WASH THE SALT AWAY FREQUENTLY IN THE WINTER. I HAVE CONTACTED ISUZU AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY SAY THEIR 100,000 MILE CORROSION WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY TO THE FRAME. I SPENT 26,000 DOLLARS ON A TRUCK THAT I NOW HAVE TO THROW AWAY AT 68,000 MILES AND I AM FURIOUS. PLEASE GET THEM TO RECALL THE FRAME.
