WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, VEHICLE STARTED SWAYING IN THE BACK LIKE IT WAS HYDROPLANING. SAME THING HAPPENED ON WAY HOME. DIDN'T DRIVE IT DURING THE NEXT TWO DAYS, SAME THING HAPPENED THE NEXT TIME. ON FOURTH DAY, I NOTICED A BRACKET HAD COME APART FROM THE RUSTED FRAME. CAR WAS BOUGHT IN 2018, AND AM STILL PAYING FOR IT. DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL.

THE VEHICLE REAR SUSPENSION RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT WHILE DRIVING THE STABILIZING BAR DETATCHED WHILE VEHICLE WAS ON THE ROAD. THE FAILURE OCCURED AFTER RECALL REPAIR WAS PREFORMED 7 YEARS EARLIER. AT THIS POINT THE IZUSU COMPANY IS ONLY WILLING TO BUY THE VEHICLE BACK AT 1888.00 US DOLLARS THW VEHICLE ONLY HAD 155000 MIL4ES AND IS 16 YEARS OLD. THE COMPANY INSPECTER STATED THAT THE RECALL FIX WAS ONLY A WAX WHICH I WAS NEVER ALERTED TO UNTILL AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURED. I THE COMPANY NOTIFIED ME OF THR RECALL FIX I WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE RESPONSIBLE STEPS TO FURTHER REINFORSE VEHICLE SUSPENION AS TI PREVENT AN UNSAFE HIGHWAY OCCUANCE.

MY FRIEND [XXX] AND I WERE RETURNING HOME FROM SHOPPING IN TOWN. HIT A SMALL POTHOLE ON SPRING STREET IN VERNON, CT ABOUT 5 PM. TOOK A LEFT TURN DOWN A HILL AND HEARD SCRAPING SOUND OUTSIDE THE CAR.I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE, ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND EXAMINED THE WHEELS. THE REAR LEFT TIRE WAS SCRAPING AGAINST THE MUD GUARD. I WAS WITHIN .2 MI. FROM HOME AND DROVE THERE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. ON CLOSER INSPECTION WE DISCOVERED THAT THE SHOCK/STRUT HAD SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME, AND THAT BOTH PARTS WERE BADLY RUSTED. SINCE THE LEFT REAR WHEEL IS NOT SAFELY CONNECTED TO THE FRAME, MY STEERING WAS AFFECTED, ESPECIALLY WHEN BRAKING. THANK GOD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AT HIGH SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY OR INVOLVE INJURIES OR AN ACCIDENT. MY BLIND WIFE AND I ARE BOTH DISABLED ON SSD AND DO NOT HAVE THE MEANS TO FIX OR REPLACE THIS VEHICLE. FOLLOWING IS DESCRIPTION FROM MECHANICS INVOICE: "FRAME IS WEAK ON LEFT SIDE FROM RECALL REPAIR TO REAR BUMPER. ON RIGHT SIDE IN THE WHEEL WELL AREA BOTH SIDES LOOK OK WHERE REAR AXLE HOOKS TO FRAME:" THE BODY IS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH VERY LITTLE RUST. IN THE EVENT OF A REAR END COLLISION IT COULD BE VERY SERIOUS AS NUMEROUS PLACES IN FRAME YOU CAN POKE YOUR FINGER THROUGH. WAS TRYING TO GET CAR THROUGH INSPECTION BUT COULDN'T GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND FUEL LIGHT OFF. I EXPLAINED TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID YOU NEED A NEW FUEL PUMP. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND WHEN HE PUT THE CAR ON THE LIFT HE SAID THE FRAME IS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT AND THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD. I THEN CALLED ISUZU AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT. THEY GAVE ME THE NAME OF A DEALER NEAR ME THEY SAID THE CAR CAN NOT BE FIXED. THEY SAID IF THE CAR IS HIT FROM BEHIND IT WOULD JUST FOLD OR THE SUSPENSION WILL JUST GIVE OUT AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR. ITS BEEN TWO WEEKS AND I'M GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM THE DEALER AND ISUZU. I AM NOW OUT OF A CAR. FRAME IS EXTREMELY CORRODED BEHIND THE REAR AXLE. SO EXTENSIVE THAT I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE IT. I HAD IT TOWED TO ISUZU REPAIR SHOP OVER A YEAR AGO UNDER THE RECALL. THEY SPRAYED THE CONTROL ARMS IN FRONT OF THE REAR AXLE WITH A RUST INHIBITOR. AT THAT TIME I ASKED ABOUT THE REAR OF THE FRAME AS IT HAD MANY HOLES IN IT. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED. I TOOK THE SPARE TIRE OFF TO CHANGE A TIRE THE OTHER DAY AND LOOKING UP I NOTICED THAT THE FRAME IS LITERALLY MISSING IN THE REAR ON BOTH SIDES. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR AND I DID NOT NOW ABOUT DEFECTS AND IN EARLY SEPTEMBER I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A OIL CHANGE AND I LEARN THAT THE TRUCK HAS SEVERE CORROSION UNDERNEATH, MY MECHANIC TOLD ME TO STOP USING IT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I CAN PUT MY LIFE IN RISK BECAUSE THE REAR AXLE CAN SNAP OFF ANY MOMENT AND HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE DAMAGE IS SO SEVERE THAT IS NOT REPAIRABLE. I'M NOW STUCK PAYING FOR A LOAN BUT I CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR. THE DEALER AND ISUZU WANT NO RESPONSIBILITY. WHILE ROTATING THE TIRES, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE ENTIRE REAR FRAME OF THE CAR WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND CRACKING. THIS CAR HAD A RECALL IN 2010 THAT WAS RELATED TO CORROSION AND THE DEALER THAT DID THE INSPECTION AND "REPAIR" ONLY APPLIED AN ANTI-CORROSIVE COMPOUND TO THE REAR LINKAGE WHERE IT ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. WE KNEW THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTING SEVERELY AT THAT TIME AND MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALER. HE SAID THE RECALL ONLY INVOLVED THE LINKAGE AND NOT THE FRAME. NOW THE FRAME IS SO CORRODED THAT THERE IS NO WAY IT CAN BE REINFORCED BECAUSE THERE IS NO METAL LEFT TO TAKE A WELD. THE WHOLE FRAME WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT CONSIDERABLE COST. THERE IS LOW MILEAGE ON OUR CAR AND OUTWARDLY APPEARS PRISTINE. WE DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE DEALER WOULDN'T REPORT THE FRAME DAMAGE AS THE LINKAGE WOULD SOON FAIL IF THE FRAME ROTTED AWAY! WE WOULD HAVE TAKEN A BUY BACK AT THAT TIME IF IT HAD BEEN OFFERED AS STATED IN THE RECALL NOTICE AS FOLLOWS: "ISUZU WILL NOTIFY OWNERS BY MAIL, AND START THE RECALL EITHER IN LATE JULY OR EARLY AUGUST, ACCORDING TO A COMPANY SPOKESPERSON. THE NHTSA ACKNOWLEDGED THE RECALL IN A LETTER TO ISUZU ON FRIDAY. AT THE DEALERSHIP, INSPECTIONS AND REPAIRS WILL BE FREE OF CHARGE, AS LONG AS THE AFFECTED SUV IS NO MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD. SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS AND RULES MAY APPLY TO VEHICLES OLDER THAN TEN YEARS. VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED FOR SIGNS OF CORROSION. IF LITTLE OR NO CORROSION IS FOUND, THE AREA WILL BE TREATED WITH AN ANTI-CORROSIVE COMPOUND. FOR VEHICLES WITH CORROSION THAT HAS DAMAGED THE REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK BRACKET AND HINDERED THE CONNECTION TO THE VEHICLE FRAME, A REINFORCEMENT BRACKET WILL INSTALLED. IF THE DAMAGE IS BEYOND REPAIR, ISUZU WILL OFFER TO REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE BASED ON THE KELLEY BLUE BOOK "PRIVATE PARTY" PRICE." THE ENTIRE UNDER CARRIAGE IS RUSTING AWAY ON THESE VEHICLES - UNLIKE ANYTHING I HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE. NHTSA NEEDS TO RE-OPEN THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN AND GET THESE VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD WITH A FORCED BUY-BACK BY ISUZU. THE REMAINDER OF THE VEHICLE IS IN RELATIVELY GOOD SHAPE FOR A 12 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH ONLY 76,000 MILES. I OWN A 2001 ISUZU RODEO LS 4X4. UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2011 THAT BECAUSE WE LIVED WITHIN A STATE WHICH WAS CONSIDERED IN THE SNOW/SALT BELT REGION OF OUR COUNTRY WHERE SALT IS USED. THE SALT CAUSED EXCESSIVE CORROSION TO THE CONTROL BRACKETS BEHIND THE REAR WHEELS OF OUR CAR. WE NEEDED TO HAVE NEW SUPPORT BRACKETS INSTALLED AND A RUSTPROOFING SPRAY APPLIED TO OUR CAR. WE HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE WHICH WAS A #3 REPAIR ON 12/2/2011. WE THOUGHT THE DANGEROUS SITUATION WAS RESOLVED UNTIL WE RECENTLY BROUGHT OUR CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WERE TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH IN MANY SPOTS AND LITERALLY CRUMBLING WHEN YOU TOUCH IT. THE CAR IS GOING TO FALL RIGHT OFF THE FRAME. THEY SAID THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ANYMORE. WE TRUSTED THEM AS THEY HAD NOTHING TO GAIN BY INFORMING US OF THE SITUATION. WHILE ONLINE, I FOUND THOUSAND OF COMPLAINTS, ALL WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR OF ISUZU. THE ISUZU REPRESENTATIVE SAID THEY ARE ONLY RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THE PARTS THAT WERE RECALLED AND NOTHING ELSE EVEN THOUGH HE ADMITTED TO BIGGER CORROSION COMPLAINTS SUCH AS MINE. I THEN ASKED WHAT THEY INTENDED TO DO ABOUT THIS HIGHLY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND HE RUDELY SAID THAT ISUZU ISN'T RESPONSIBLE! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. I GUESS BECAUSE THEY NO LONGER HAVE ANY DEALERSHIPS OPEN, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD AT AROUND 35 - I HEARD A VERY LOAD THUMP FROM AROUND THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BACK TIRE THEY CAR STARTED SWERVING ALL OVER THE ROAD. I COULD BARELY GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY SON CAME AND WAS ABLE TO NURSE IT TO MY HUSBANDS HOUSE THAT WASN'T THAT FAR. I BOUGHT MY 2001 ISUZU RODEO NEW. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2010 ABOUT THE SUSPENSION BRACKETS IN THE REAR HAVING A RUST PROBLEM. I HAD THE RECALL INSPECTION DONE AND THE ISUZU SERVICE CENTER TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE AND THEY APPLIED SOME RUST INHIBITOR. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP IN AUG 2012 FOR BRAKE WORK AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN FRONT AND BEHIND THE REAR WHEELS WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED WITH NUMEROUS RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME. THE FRAME WAS SO RUSTED IN NUMEROUS SPOTS THAT YOU COULD PUSH YOUR FINGER THROUGH THE FRAME AND IT WOULD CRUMBLE UNDER THE PRESSURE. I CALLED ISUZU AND THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT TO AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER THEY DIRECTED ME TO. AT THIS CENTER I WAS TOLD THAT MY RUST WAS CONSIDERED A LEVEL 3 INCIDENT. ISUZU TOLD THE REPAIR SHOP TO DO A LEVEL 3 FIX. THAT INCLUDED PUTTING LARGER SUSPENSION BRACKETS ON AND COATING THE RUST WITH A RUST INHIBITOR. THEY STATED THAT THE FRAME RUST WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, ONLY THE BRACKETS. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE WERE FRAME ISSUES FOR THESE MODELS BUT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY WAS ONLY FOR THE SUSPENSION BRACKETS. THIS VEHICLE IS UNDRIVABLE IN IT'S PRESENT CONDITION WITH ALMOST NO STRENGTH LEFT IN THE REAR FRAME. I WILL HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO HAVE METAL WELDED TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO STRENGTHEN IT AND TO MAKE IT SAFE ENOUGH TO DRIVE. A VEHICLE PRODUCED IN 2001 SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS MUCH RUST DAMAGE TO THE FRAME. IT IS NOW NEARING THE END OF OCTOBER, I CALLED THE COMPANY TODAY, & THEY SAID THEY NEVER RECEIVED THE PHOTOS. ORIGINAL OWNER OF 2001 RODEO. RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK BRACKET. DRIVERS SIDE REQUIRED INSTALLATION OF A BRACKET, PASSENGER SIDE WAS SPRAYED WITH WAX. RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED CIRCA 01/2011. TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR BRAKES LAST WEEK AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME IS SO RUSTED THAT IT IS NOT WORTH DOING THE BRAKES. MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS ITS INSPECTION AS THE FRAME IS SOFTENED DUE TO RUSTING AND IS UNSAFE (DON'T GO ON ANY LONG DRIVES AND THINK ABOUT A NEW CAR IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS). CONTACTED ISUZU AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO FURTHER RESPONSIBILITY AS THEY DID EVERYTHING THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO UNDER THE RECALL AGREEMENT. I WOULD LIKE TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR RUSTED FRAMES CAN BE LIMITED TO SUCH A SMALL AREA OF THE FRAME COMPONENT WHEN IT APPEARS FROM THE HIGH NUMBER OF FILED COMPLAINTS THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC FRAME RUST ISSUE AND NOT SIMPLY A LOCALIZED ISSUE DEALING WITH THE REAR LOWER SUSPENSION LINK. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE REAR SUSPENSION BROKE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. BILL COLWELL FORD IN HUDSON, IOWA WAS CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM MY FRIENDS HOME. AN ATTEMPT TO REPAIR WAS MADE BUT IT WAS LATER DETERMINED IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. I HAVE WAITED FOR ISUZU TO CONTACT ME FOR OVER A WEEK REGARDING A REPURCHASE REMEDY FOR THIS ISSUE. TIER 5 LEVEL MEANS THAT THE CAR HAS TO BE TOTALED OUT. THE CAR CAME BACK WITH MISSING BOLTS, SCREWS ETC. IT IS MAKING HORRIBLE CLUNKING NOISES WHEN YOU TURN THE WHEEL AND IT SHAKES WHEN YOU DRIVE. I THINK THE UNDERNEATH OF MY CAR IS SO RUSTED OUT THAT NOTHING COULD ATTACH TO IT. I THINK THAT ISUZU SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL TO REPLACE THE WHOLE FRAME OF THE CAR. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS BLOGS ON EDMUNDS.COM RELATING TO THIS SAME ISSUE. IT IS A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS MATTER. THE DEALER DID STATE THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET TO THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. ON FEB 24 THE DEALERSHIP DID CONTACT US AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNREPAIRABLE AND THAT THEY HAD SUBMITTED PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTATION TO ISUZU. I SPOKE WITH ISUZU ON MARCH 8 ALMOST 2 WEEKS AFTER THEY RECEIVED THE INFORMATION FROM THE DEALER AND THEY SEEMED UNCONCERNED AND STATED THAT THE DEALER'S PICTURES WERE INCONCLUSIVE AND THAT THEY DIDN'T SEE WHY THEY COULD NOT PUT THE BRACKETS ON THE VEHICLE. UPON THEIR INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE RUST AND THE FRAME BEING CRACKED. I RECEIVED A RECALL #10V-436 FORM IN THE MAIL FROM THE ISUZU OWNER RELATIONS CENTER 1400 S. DOUGLASS ROAD, SUITE 100 ANAHELM, CA 92806 ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 2010. IT STATED THAT I SHOULD CALL ISUZU SPECIAL ASSISTANCE CENTER TO IDENTIFY THE ISUZU SERVICE CENTER CLOSEST TO ME. I WAS TOLD THE PARTS TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY 2011. I CALLED AND AN APPOINTMENT FOR FEBRUARY 18, 2011 AT BOURNIVAL ISUZU WHERE I BOUGHT THE SUV BRAND NEW IN AUGUST 2001. THE SUV WAS DUE FOR A STICKER JANUARY 2011. JANUARY 10 2011 THIS VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE REAR LEFT SIDE TOTALING $2,800. WHEN THE BODY SHOP FURTHER INVESTIGATING UNDER THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED EXTENSIVE FRAME DAMAGE ROTTING WITH HOLES AND EXTENSIVE RUST. HE DETERMINED THE SUV WAS UNSAFE. HE ALSO NOTICED THE AXEL WAS 3/4 OF AN INCH OUT OF LINE. HE THEN CALLED OUR INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE ADJUSTER REINVESTIGATED THE VEHICLE. THE ADJUSTER AT THIS TIME TOTALED THE SUV. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE AND SUBTRACTED A LARGE SUM OF MONEY FROM THE FINALE AMOUNT BECAUSE OF THE HOLES AND RUST HE FOUND ON THE FRAME UNDERCARRIAGE, TO LOOK AT THIS VEHICLE YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS YEARS YOUNGER THEN IT WAS. THERE WAS NO RUST, DENTS OR SCRATCHES. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE GONE ANOTHER 100,000 MILES AT LEAST. IT WAS GARAGED AND METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED WITH RECORDS FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. I WAS TOLD BY FRIENDS IT DROVE AND SOUNDED LIKE A BRAND NEW AUTOMOBILE. MY INTENTION WAS TO HAVE IT FOR TEN MORE YEARS. AT THIS TIME I AM REQUESTING THE AMOUNT DISQUALIFIED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY FOR THE FRAME METAL DECOMPOSITION AND AN AMOUNT FOR LOSS OF LONGEVITY AND FAILURE TO FULFILL MY EXPECTATIONS.

WITHIN THE PAST FEW WEEKS WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON OUR 2001 ISUZU RODEO. I CALLED THE LOCAL ISUZU DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE "TECH BULLETIN" NOR THE PARTS TO FIX THE VEHICLE BUT THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY COULD GET OUR VEHICLE IN. THEY SAID IT WAS ONLY A MINOR ISSUE THAT REQUIRED SPRAYING AN ANTI RUST SPRAY ON A PART OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE. YESTERDAY, 01/30/2011 THE LEFT FORWARD MOUNTING BRACKET RIPPED AWAY FROM THE FRAME CAUSING OUR VEHICLE TO GO INTO A IRRECOVERABLE CLOCKWISE SPIN. MY WIFE AND 2 YEAR OLD SON WERE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. MY WIFE WAS STRUCK BY FLYING DEBRIS AND GOT SOME SCRATCHES AND BRUISES. MY SON WAS SECURED IN HIS CAR SEAT BUT WAS STRUCK BY FLYING DEBRIS AND HE GOT A CONTUSION ON HIS FOREHEAD AND A BLACK EYE. I WAS ABLE TO FIGHT THROUGH THE SPIN AND WE ENDED UP IN A DITCH WITH NO OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED. WE WERE 5 MINUTES AWAY FROM BEING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IF THIS WERE THE CASE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY TO AVOID A LIFE THREATENING CRASH. THESE VEHICLES ARE UNSAFE AND ARE ROLLING DEATH TRAPS. ISUZU HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A LEVEL 4 FAILURE AND PROBABLY MY VEHICLE WILL NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE CORROSION. HOWEVER, THE ENTIRE REAR OF THE FRAME IS RIDDLED WITH HOLES AND HEAVILY RUSTED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP THE DEALERSHIP REQUIRED SIGNATURES ON PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE TO DISCLAIM LIABILITY. ALTHOUGH THE "OFFICIAL" POSITION OF THE DEALERSHIP REMAINS NEUTRAL, WE WERE TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ISUZU OFFERED TO PURCHASE THE CAR FOR $935, STATING THEIR ONLY RESPONSIBILITY WAS FOR THE BRACKET.

MY 2001 ISUZU RODEO WITH 90,000 HAS COMPLETELY CORRODED UNDERNEATH AND A STEERING BRACKET BECAME DETACHED FROM THE REAR WHEEL WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN IN TRAFFIC. THE ISUZU FACTORY DID RECALL THE CAR, BUT IT HAS BEEN SITTING DISABLED IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR 2 MONTHS NOW AND I DON'T THINK IT CAN BE FIXED (THE ENTIRE UNDERSIDE IS RUSTED OUT). THE COMPANY IS BOTCHING THIS RECALL: THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. THESE CARS NEED TO BE BOUGHT BACK BY THE COMPANY AND TAKEN OUT OF CIRCULATION. THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME "TOO BAD" WHEN I EXPLAINED THAT BEING UNABLE TO DRIVE THIS CAR IS UNACCEPTABLE: I NEED A CAR! THEY ALSO TOLD ME NOT TO TRY TO GET THE CAR FIXED ON MY OWN. I CAN'T TRADE IT IN, I CAN'T FIX IT, I CAN'T DRIVE IT...I'M BASICALLY SCREWED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW AND AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. MY CAR IS A 2001 ISUZU RODEO. I AM ITS 2ND OWNER AND I PURCHASED IT FROM THE ESTATE OF A DECEASED WOMAN. IT HAD VERY LOW MILEAGE. A FEW DAYS AGO I NOTICED A JARRING SOUND COMING FROM THE LEFT REAR SIDE OF METAL MAKING CONTACT. AS I WAS NOT AT ALL FAR FROM HOME I RETURNED MY CAR TO MY DRIVEWAY. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION I SAW THAT THE METAL OF THE LEFT SIDE FRAME OF MY CAR WAS LIKE PAPER - COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATING. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN AWAY FROM A GAS STATION, AND WITH NO WARNING, IT BEGAN TO WEAVE ALL OVER THE ROAD. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE CONTROL ARM SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME, DUE TO SERIOUS RUST. THE CONTROL ARM ATTACHES TO THE REAR AXLE, AND IS WELDED TO THE LOWER SIDE OF THE FRAME IN FRONT OF THE REAR WHEEL. THE CORROSION WAS SO SEVERE AT THAT POINT, THAT THE BRACKET SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. THIS CAUSES THE REAR AXLE TO MOVE, RESULTING IN THE CAR STEERING WITH THE REAR WHEELS. THIS CONDITION MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR. THE CAR WAS TOWED HOME. A FEW WEEKS LATER, IT WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP FOR AN ESTIMATE. THE OWNER INSPECTED THE CAR, AND SAID THAT IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO REPAIR, AND ESTIMATED THE COST AT $3,200.00. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED, AND IS NOT DRIVABLE. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN 2001, AND HAVE ALWAYS GARAGED IT AND MAINTAINED IT PROPERLY. THIS RODEO WAS PURCHASED IN JULY. AFTER A TEST DRIVE, A VIBRATION WAS NOTICED IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND RIDE OF THE VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD BY THE SALESMAN AND SALES MANAGER THAT THIS WAS NORMAL DUE TO TIRE FLAT SPOTS FROM SITTING ON THE DEALERS' LOT. WE WERE TOLD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR 500+ MILES AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM ALLEVIATES ITSELF. AT THE SAME TIME, WE AGREED TO DO THIS WITH AN ALIGNMENT DONE AND THE TIRES BALANCED AND ROTATED LATER. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN ON AUGUST 2, 2001 AND WERE TOLD THAT TWO TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE TIRES NOT BEING ROUND AND WOULD NOT BALANCE. WE WERE ABLE TO GET TWO NEW TIRES THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN ORDERED FRO ANOTHER CUSTOMER'S RODEO (SAME PROBLEM). THE WHEELS WERE NOT REPLACED AT THIS POINT, ONLY THE TIRES. WE WERE TOLD THEY COULD GIVE US THE OTHER CUSTOMER'S TIRES, SINCE THEY KNEW HE WAS OUT OF TOWN. THIS WAS FINE WITH US. AN ALIGNMENT WAS ALSO DONE AT THIS TIME. THE PROBLEM WAS BETTER BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH. A LITTLE TIME REVEALED THE SAME PROBLEM WAS REOCCURING AND THE WOBBLE WAS GETTING WORSE! WE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK ON AUGUST 11, 2001. WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT ALL 4 TIRES AND WHEELS HAD TO BE REPLACED UNDER A TSB THAT WAS OUT FOR THIS PROBLEM. I LOGGED A COMPLAINT WIRH ISUZU REGARDING THE FACT THAT I HAD TO WAIT UP TO 10 BUSINESS DAYS FOR THE REPLACEMENT WHEELS AND TIRES TO ARRIVE. MY CONCERN IS THAT ALL 4 TIRES WERE BAD, TWO WHICH HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED AT THIS POINT, AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT IS OK FOR ME TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AND TAT NO DANGER EXISTS WITH THESE TIRES. I DO NOT AGREE, SINCE THE ENTIRE WHEEL ASSEMBLIES ARE BEING REPLACED. I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO PROVIDE COPIES OF REPAIR WORK. TO DATE, MY WHEELS HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED. THE WHEELS ON MY RODEO ARE THE STEEL WHEELS, NOT THE ALUMINUM ALLOY. (TIRESIZE: UNKNOWN)
