The contact owns a 1991 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the contact depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to slow as needed. The brake warning light was illuminated. The depressed the brake pedal with extreme force and the vehicle came to a stop. The dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed because the vehicle was an older vehicle. The contact was informed that had already been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 96V260000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was imported from Canada, and once it was imported, the vehicle warranty was voided. The failure mileage was 175,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1991 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT PROPERLY RELEASE AND THERE WAS A LOOSE WIRE CONNECTION ASSOCIATED WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM NEAR THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WERE NO WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED FOR THE ABS. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANEUVER THE PEDAL AND LIFT THE PEDAL TO GET IT TO RELEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER RECALL THAT WAS NOT REPAIRED BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM THE RECALL INFORMATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE PROBLEM WAS THE MASTER AIR PUMP. THE CONSUMER LEARNED A THE ISSUE IN QUESTION WAS RECALLED AND THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE IN 1998. I HAVE SENT NUMEROUS SUBMISSIONS TO BE REIMBURSED AND EVERYTIME THEY FIND SOME EXCUSE NOT TO PAY. THEY CLAIM IT WAS REPAIRED IN 2001, I HAVE THE DEALER INVOICE STATING THAT ABS ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED. MOPAR PART NUMBER R4746415, NOT THE ABOVE MENTIONED PUMP. THE LAST TIME I SUBMITTED MY PAPER WORK IN SEPTEMBER. I RECENTLY INSTALLED NEW BUMPSTOPS ON THE REAR OF MY JEEP AND NOTICED A DECREASE IN BRAKING ABILITY. TODAY WHILE DRIVING I HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING POWER AND REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHILE INSPECTING MY BRAKING SYSTEM AND MY JEEP FOR DAMAGE. I NOTICED THAT I HAD A REAR BRAKE LINE COLLAPSED. I REMEMBER READING ABOUT RECALL 90V206000. IT STATED THAT "CONTACT AT FULL JOUNCE MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE TUBE TO COLLAPSE AND RESTRICT THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE TO THE LEFT REAR BRAKE WHICH AFFECTS THE BRAKING CAPABILITY OF THE VEHICLE." THIS WAS QUOTED FROM THIS SITE. I READ THE DOCUMENTS THAT WERE LINKED, AND EVEN THOUGH MY VIN DOES NOT PULL UP THE RECALL, WHICH I HAVE GONE TO A DEALER UPON BUYING MY VEHICLE AND HAD THEM MAKE SURE ALL RECALLS WERE PERFORMED. ABS ALWAYS ACTIVATES AT SPEEDS OVER 45 MPH, PRODUCING A LOUD CLICKING, INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE AND PULLING CAR SHARPLY TO RIGHT AND LEFT. CHECK ABS LIGHT COMES ON AFTER 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING. ABOUT EVERY 5 MONTHS, CHECK ABS LIGHT COMES ON WITH PARKING BRAKE LIGHT, RESULTING IN COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. THIS LASTS ANYWHERE FROM 10 MINUTES TO 2 DAYS, UNTIL EVERYTHING SUDDENLY TURNS BACK ON AND BRAKING IS RESTORED. DEALER CANNOT SOLVE PROBLEM.*AK

WHEN THE CONSUMER LEFT THE DEALERSHIP SHE DROVE TO AN INTERSECTION, AND WENT RIGHT THROUGH A STOP SIGN. WHEN SHE WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD HER THEY WERE MOT LIABLE FOR THE LOST OF BRAKES, ONLY WHAT WAS BEING REPAIRED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE CALIPER MOUNT SLIDE AREA, WHICH IS A PART OF THE KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY, WAS WORN BEYOND REPAIR, AT EIGHT BRAKE PAD PLATE CONTACT AREAS. THE BRAKE PADS HUNG UP IN WEAR GROOVES, CAUSING DELAYED MOVEMENT OF PADS FROM CALIPER HYDRAULIC PRESSURE WHEN STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, RESULTING IN INCREASED BRAKE RESPONSE TIME, REDUCING EFFICIENCY AND INCREASING DANGER TO THE DRIVER AND OTHERS IN THE PATH OF THE DRIVER. *SCC

THINKING ALL IS OK I DRIVE MY CAR AND ON MARCH 30, 2002 MY BRAKES AGAIN FAILED. HAD IT FIXED UP FROM THE DEALER AND DROVE IT ABOUT A MILE ONLY TO HAVE NO BRAKES AGAIN.
