TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN PARK, THE CONTACT NOTICED STRONG FUEL FUMES EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS FUEL LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT INDEPENDENTLY DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. VEHICLE: 1995 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH 4.0L 6 CYLINDER ENGINE AND 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION. MOTOR MOUNTS ON PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE BLOCK HAVE SHEARED OFF TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THE BOLTS SHEARED WHILE GOING OVER A POTHOLE AT 25 MPH. ALL THREE BOLTS WERE REPLACED WITH GRADE 8 BOLTS AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON A FLAT SURFACE AT 20 MPH. EACH TIME THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTED TO THE RIGHT AND THE 3RD 4TH 5TH AND REVERSE GEARS COULD NOT BE USED. *JB

UPON CLOSING THE PASSENGER DOOR OF MY 1994 JEEP CHEROKEE COUNTRY SPORT 2 DOOR AFTER ENTERING, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE PROPERLY. IT WAS BASICALLY OFF ALIGNMENT. UPON INVESTIGATING, YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE WHERE THE HINGES HOLDING THE DOOR TO THE FRAME HAVE CLEARLY CAME UNWELDED FROM THE FRAME. IT IS AS IF THEY JUST PULLED AWAY. HAVE NOT YET REPAIRED THIS. JUST TRY NOT TO USE THE PASSENGER DOOR AT THIS TIME.

FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HINGE FAILED. DOOR IS FALLING OFF AND WILL COST $1,600 TO REPAIR. I CONTACTED DAIMLER/CHRYSLER AND ASKED IF THEY WERE AWARE OF ANY SUCH PROBLEMS WITH DOOR HINGES. THEY SAID THEY RESEARCHED IT AND INFORMED THERE HAVE NEVER BEEN ANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 2,500 CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS AND 30,000 WARRANTY CLAIMS FOR 93-95 JEEPS, APPROXIMATELY 10% OF ALL JEEPS MADE IN THOSE YEARS, FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. CALLED BACK AND SPOKE WITH SENIOR STAFF AGENT LUKE ALWARD. ASKED HIM TO FIND OUT IF THERE WERE EVER ANY CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS OR WARRANTY CLAIMS. HE REPLIED THERE HAD NEVER BEEN ANY PROBLEMS, AND WHAT DID I EXPECT WITH AN 8 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 53,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN CONFRONTED WITH THE DATA THAT DAIMLER HAD PROVIDED TO NHTSA REGARDING 30,000 WARRANTY CLAIMS, HE SAID HE DID NOT HAVE THAT INFORMATION. I TOLD HIM I WOULD FAX INFO TO HIM, BUT HE SAID DECISION NOT TO FINANCIALLY REIMBURSE HAD BEEN MADE, AND THERE WAS NO APPEAL PROCESS. I BELIEVE DAIMLER HAS NOT ENGAGED IN FAIR DEALINGS WITH ME. I BELIEVE THE NHTSA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PART, SINCE OVER 30,000 PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND DAIMLER CLEARLY PUT OUT A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.*AK

A FEW WEEKS AGO THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ON MY 1995 JEEP CHEROKEE STARTED TO BE DIFFICULT TO CLOSE. IT QUICKLY GOT WORSE AND THEN I NOTICED THAT THE TOP DOOR HINGE HAD SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. IT LOOKED LIKE THE MANUFACTURER'S WELD HAD FAILED. SOON THE ENTIRE UPPER HINGE CAME OFF AND THE DOOR WAS HANGING ON BY THE LOWER HINGE ONLY. I CALLED THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS PROVIDED A COPY OF THEIR TECH SERVICE BULLETIN 23-030-01, WHICH PROVIDED DEALERS WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS DEFECT. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND 2 SEPARATE LOCAL BODY SHOPS. ALL THE TECHNICIANS THAT I TALKED TO EXPRESSED DISBELIEF THAT CHRYSLER-JEEP HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THEY HAD REPAIRED MANY SIMILAR DEFECTS PREVIOUSLY. I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE DOOR IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SECURE WHEN THE DEFECT STARTS AND COULD POSSIBLY FALL OFF THE VEHICLE WHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF REPAIR, WHICH WAS $280.00. I THINK CHRYSLER-JEEP SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL AND PAY FOR REPAIRS TO THIS DEFECT. AND NOW MY ENGINE MOTOR MOUNT BOLTS SHEARED OFF CAUSING ENGINE TO SHIFT FAN BLADE TO CUT INTO THE RADIATOR. THIS SEEMS LIKE A LOUSY MANUFACTURER'S FLAW, WHEN IT IS HAPPENING TO ALOT OF JEEPS, WAITING FOR SOMEBODY TO GET IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR DEATH BEFORE THERE IS A RECALL. *AK
HINGES CAME UNWELDED WHICH CAUSED DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO COME OFF THE HINGES. PIN SNAPPED IN HALF.*AK
DOOR HINGE ON DRIVERS SIDE UPPER AND LOWER HAVE CRACKED WELDS.*AK
TOP PASSENGER DOOR HINGE HAS PULLED AWAY FROM VEHICLE, THE DOOR DOES NOT PROPERLY SHUT, CONTACTED DEALER AND THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK CONSUMER STATED THE DOOR STRAP WENT OUT ON THE PASSENGER DOOR, WHICH PUT TOO MUCH STRAIN ON THE UPPER HINGE, CAUSING IT TO SEPARATE FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE, CONSUMER BELIEVES THIS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW AND IS NOW HAPPENING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, CONSUMER HAS SINCE HAD THE PROBLEM REPAIRED, HOWEVER CONSUMER HAD TO BE 50% AND THE MANUFACTURER PAID THE OTHER HALF.*SLC
RUST DUE TO A/C WATER LEAKS AND LACK OF A HEAT SHIELD OVER THE CONVERTER WILL CAUSE RUST IN THE PASSENGER FLOOR PAN AND THE FRAME MEMBER, CAUSING A COMPRISE IN SAFETY.
CORROSION TO FLOOR PANS ON MORE THAN ONE 1995 JEEP CHEROKEE DUE TO WATER LEAKS. THE FLOOR PANS IN THESE JEEPS ARE COMPLETLY RUSTED AWAY ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME RAIL. THE FACT IS THAT THERE ARE HUNDEREDS OF CHEROKEES OUT THERE WITH THIS RUST AND IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THE STRUCTURE OF THE UNITIEZED BODY WILL NOT BE AS RIDGED BECAUSE THE FLOOR IS BASICALLY SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. OBVIOSULY SOME CORROSION MIGHT BE EXPECTED OVER A 5 YEAR PERIOD BUT DUE TO EXCESSIVE MOISTURE LEAKS AND THE HEAT/COOL CYCLE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND EXHAUST UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PAN THE COROSSION ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IN EVEN WORSE. RETURNED TO DEALER WITH QUOTE TO SEE IF I COULD GET ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. DEALER CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOLD HIM THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST ME IN REPAIRS SINCE I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER. ONE HINGE OF DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DOOR IS COMPLETELY DETACHED, THE OTHER IS COMING LOOSE. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL YEAR OF THE CHEROKEE. AT MODERATE TO HIGH SPEEDS, THE DOOR SHAKES AND RATTLES, AND THE NISE IS DEAFENING. DOOR ALSO LEAKS NOW WHEN IT IS RAINING, THERE NOW IS WATER DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE. ALSO, I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PROP UP THE TAILGATE DOOR WITH A BROOM HANDLE SINCE THAT PIECE FAILED, THIS HANDLE COULD EASILY BECOME DISLODGED DURING LOADING AND SEVERELY INJURE ANYONE STANDING BENEATH THE DOOR.*AK

THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR'S HINGES ARE BROKEN AND THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HINGES ARE ALMOST BROKEN. THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW (FRONT) IS BROKEN, IT WILL NOT ROLL UP PROPERLY. IT CLICKS AS YOU TURN THE NOB, BUT WINDOW DOES NOT GO UP OR DOWN.*AK
I FIRST NOTICED THIS PROBLEM AS A CLICKING NOISE WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS OPENED. WHILE HAVING MY JEEP SERVICED ONE DAY, I ASKED AT THE GARAGE WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HINGE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS TEARING LOOSE FROM THE CAR BODY. BECAUSE IT WAS A HINGE WELD, THEY DAID THAT THEY COULDN'T REPAIR IT. I INQUIRED AT A BODY SHOP, AND THEY SAID THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST 400 DOLLARS. I LATER FOUND ON AN INTERNET SITE DISCUSSING SAFETY REACALLS AND ISSUES ABOUT CAR PROBLEMS THAT MANY 1995 JEEP CHEROKEE OWNERS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT DOORS HAD ACTUALLY FALLEN OFF AND IN ONE CASE BOTH DOORS WERE AFFECTED. I CONTACTED DAINLER CHRYSLER TWICE, EVEN WRITING TO SCHRAMM. I WAS BASICALLY TOLD TOO BAD, THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.*AK
