I purchased this 2014 Jeep Cherokee from Taverna Collection in Feb 2025 and received it in March 2025. The selling dealer was required to inspect the vehicle before delivery and did not report any transmission or valve-body issues. On June 25, 2025, the vehicle received a multipoint inspection at Auto Angel in Santa Fe. No transmission failure, shifting issues, or valve-body concerns were found. The Jeep was not showing symptoms related to Recall U90 at that time. After this, I attempted to have Recall U90 (PCM/TCM reprogramming) performed. Lithia Chrysler in Santa Fe confirmed the recall by email and scheduled an appointment, but after towing the vehicle to them they refused to perform the recall and repeatedly stated “there is no recall,” forcing me to tow the vehicle home and then again two days later to a dealership in Albuquerque. At the Albuquerque dealership, I gave clear instructions not to perform any paid repairs—including a transmission valve-body replacement—until the U90 reflash was completed and confirmed. I never received confirmation. The dealership later claimed they followed protocol but refused to release the WiTECH session report or timestamps showing when the recall work occurred. They told me I could only see documentation after paying $2,600. I contacted FCA/Stellantis. The case manager said her supervisor stated the dealer “followed protocol,” but FCA admitted this was based solely on the dealership’s word. FCA could not confirm whether they reviewed the WiTECH diagnostic session or any recall repair records. Under 49 U.S.C. §30120(i) and 49 CFR Part 576, manufacturers and dealers must retain detailed recall records, including diagnostic data and timestamps, to verify proper recall completion. FCA’s inability or refusal to verify the recall using these required records raises concerns that Recall U90 may not have been performed correctly or in the proper sequence. I request NHTSA review this matter.

My 2014 Jeep Cherokee began exhibiting repeated transmission and electrical malfunctions, particularly after startup or while idling. The most concerning issue is the appearance of a “Switch to Park” warning message, which occurs while the vehicle is already in Drive. When this happens, the transmission fails to engage properly, and I’m unable to shift into gear without cycling through Park multiple times. **seems to start happening after filling gas tank to full** This poses a major safety risk, especially in intersections or during stop-and-go traffic. The car has also experienced flashing odometer issues, rough idle, and erratic behavior when shifting — all of which point to a communication failure between core modules (BCM, TCM, PCM). A Chrysler-certified dealership performed a proxy alignment after acknowledging that the modules were “talking at the same time.” While no fault codes appeared on my OBD-II scanner, the dealer determined that the issue required a software-level alignment. However, I was told this is not part of any current recall or TSB, despite my symptoms being identical to other complaints already logged (e.g., NHTSA ID 11425007). This problem has occurred multiple times, both before and after dealership service. I was also informed there are no current recalls, but VIN-based systems like VinSeeker.com have suggested there may be open recall alerts related to transmission or software issues. This type of malfunction places the driver and passengers at risk of unexpected stalling, transmission disengagement, or inability to accelerate — especially dangerous in high-traffic areas. The issue appears to be known, systemic, and potentially tied to faulty transmission control software or defective module synchronization.

When starting again and driving in Slidell Louisiana only 70458 car is making loud noises from console radio network seems as if it's a tracking device linking into my car causing it to break gas is just draining starting Is loud just went to jeep in Nola jeep Xtreme on 29th all was fine seems as if there plugging in broke cars or trucks on my car. When off it makes noises every 20 min it's very odd when driving stalling like not going I'm not sure oil change not due as of yet even with message system on progressive seems as if they have done this also as when I went to Hattiesburg Ford where I purchased stopped please call me with answers I do not own any other cars trucks four wheelers or motorcycles. This is very disturbing. I pay notes on this and am being robbed I lost my Corolla like this the FCC and FAA are having same problem satellite please call me asap

When is someone going to hold Chrysler liable for all of its fuel tank problem instead of passing the problem onto the consumers! The fuel tank 68217191AD im my 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been changed five times. I don't know about you but that tells me they have had problems with this tank from the very beginning. The new 68217191AF costs around 800 dollars to replace and they won't guarantee it not to do the same thing. They also have tank problems in other vehicles they make. If you don't hold them liable for their mistakes they will they will say sorry we know it's a problem but since it's not a recall you have to pay. Also had gas come flying out of tank getting on face arm and leg.

This vehicle has an extremely dangerous & ongoing issue related to the 9-speed transmission. Many times the vehicle does not know when to shift, sputtering/sluggish/jerky when accelerating from being stopped and coming to a stop. Frequently the vehicle engages itself into Neutral and/or Parking Brake while driving at both city and highway speeds. This is a very dangerous safety hazard as any motorist trailing behind me can not anticipate the sudden deceleration that ensues. The vehicle then either becomes "stuck" in a gear at too high an RPM at given speed, or engages the parking brake or seems to then be in Neutral. These instances regularly frequent, leaving me having to pull off side of roadway in sometimes dangerous position, perform handful of restart cycles in order to clear the condition and be back in a proper enough gear-state to get back on the road. The following cluster warning lights coincide with the issues: "Check Engine" - "Service Transmission" - "Service Parking Brake". After a handful of restart cycles, the lights clear from the cluster, but the issues remain. The vehicle is unable to come to a comfortable complete stop without a premature-sudden jerk stop. This throws anyone in the vehicle forward in their seats. Also, when ascending an incline or traversing a decline, the vehicle shifts off-sequence in such a way to violently jerk-kick, feeling as though something in the drivetrain will disconnect itself from the chassis. I have recently attempted to submit a recall request over the phone with Chrysler as these conditions are well documented past recalls that are "no longer open". Most notably Chrysler Recall Numbers V69, S55, and P31. They will not "waive" repair costs for me. I purchased the vehicle in March-April of 2024 with 87,000 miles. If previous owner & dealership did not address the recall when it was open, I feel it should not be my financial responsibility to correct, nor should I be absorbing the negative equity when traded in.

As of this date: Started about a year ago, when Jeep was over 150,000 miles. When accelerating to turn or from a stop sign or light, vehicle would stall, mimicking the feeling the vehicle ran out of gas. This occurred about once a month. Working at home and not driving my vehicle as much its hard to say if it would have occurred more often. Checked for any codes, none appeared. As I have recently started driving back in the office 3 days a week, the issue of stalling at any given time with no warning began occurring more often. Took it to trusted local service shop, they changed the purge valve pump and gas cap, as they were puzzled on the problem. Did not seem to matter if gas was full, half or under half. The issue occurred twice within 2 weeks. Service shop recommended taking to dealership. Jeep dealership are not aware of any similar issues. Which I found interesting as I researched and found massive posts from various jeep forums as well as this one. They capped off hose to charcoal canister, hoping that would help. And told me its a process of elimination at this point. The next evening it stalled again. I have now parked my vehicle as this has become a safety hazard. Stalling anywhere at any given moment could cause a tragic accident. will be contacting dealership to voice my concern. Hoping for a positive resolution.

Tank is stuck at 1/4 full, some kind of issue withe the fuel tank. Can will run out of gas if miles are not monitored. The Gas Tank Aux Pump or design of the tank (Hump over drive shaft) is creating an issue.

Car wont accept gas, the gas tank becomes vapor locked, particular in cold weather. When you try to fill it you have to keep the gas at a triggle or the system will over flow. Takes like 5 minutes to fill up a tank easy in the winter if your luck.

Car stopped without warning in middle of road. Would not start. NO Warning lights on dash. Answer: Low oil level, car just turned engine off. NO dash warning for low oil. Happened multiple times. Now: After filling with gas, stopped at light, warning messages "Put Car in park" then drive. When put in Drive, rough and huge thunk. Almost got hit, but was able to pulled over. Called AAA., waited 45, and he drove it up onto bed to bring to mechanic. No problem. They did an oil change. Drove for days then very rough idle and driving. Each time, I was able to pull over w/o being hit. Now sometimes running sluggish going down road and almost hit again. This car is not even 10 years old, but I've lost count how many close calls my family has had. If you go on any of the Jeep forums, many, many owners are complaining abouts these same issues. Why does the maker of Jeeps fix all these issues on the forums BEFORE they build or design new ones?! I have owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee(electrical), Jeep Commander(rust from bottom up), Jeep Compass, now the Jeep Cherokee (by far the WORST one). Was a Jeep fan, but I have never run into so many weird issues. Even my mechanic has given up and said bring to dealership. He has 5 different Jeeps all with electrical/unknown issues.

This started 3/28/23, between 40 and 60 vehicle shakes and is hesitant to go. Vehicle will jerk badly and clunk. While the check engine light starts flashing. When codes are check they are for power loss & failure.

Everytime I fill up, the car acts like the transmission is faulty. Tried to die when stopping, barely runs. On dash warning says to have transmission serviced. I have to drive approximately 6 miles, restart the engine, then it's fine. Happens everytime. Took it to the Bossier city, la. Dealership and they wanted to sell me a transmission job. I informed them of others with same problem and the said they never heard of that problem.

1. The 2014 jeep Cherokee has stopped accepting gas except for .5 gallon intervals. Yes it is available for inspection 2. The possibility of running out of gas and the car stalling out. 3. Yes Dewey Dodge has evaluated the vehicle. 4. Jeep headquarters has received the dealer documents and complaint from us about our jeep 5. No warning. Just stopped being able to get fuel in tank with out reengaging pump multiple times and taking over 30 min to get gas. This problem first occurred within the last 3 months.

My battery light comes on and my dash says, "battery voltage low put car into park and then desired gear". The car will start up after the excess fuel in the engine is burned off which can take a few tries. It will buck like it wants to stall out or it dies again completely while I'm driving. This is a very dangerous situation to be driving down the road to have the vehicle suddenly stall out. The vehicle will continue to stall until the fuel hits a certain level in the tank.

For the last 12-months I have been dealing with the vehicle stalling after filling it up. It first started a year ago and was sporadic but for the last 6-months it has been happening every time I fill up. This is a very dangerous situation to be driving down the road to have the vehicle suddenly stall out. The last time this happened was on Saturday, 2/11/23 and I spent the day fighting a stalling vehicle. Since 2020 the check engine light sporadically comes on. Supposedly there is a small evap leak. After looking into this earlier today I discovered this is a well known issue with all Jeep vehicles. Seeing how this seems to be a manufacturer issue the consumer should not have to keep paying out to fix what was not done right to begin with. Please look into both of these concerns.

Every time I fill the fuel tank and start driving the car dies, lurches or drops out of gear. I get a message on the instrument display that I cannot shift without a compete stop (I did not shift) It's in drive but will not move. This is dangerous as it gets me to the middle of an intersection and its dead. I know this sounds crazy but it's a repeatable problem. And apparently, I'm not the only one.

Beginning of this year vehicle was taken into mechanic for issues. It had rear differential, exhaust and motor mounts all repaired/replaced! The vehicle still had alot of vibration and just 3 weeks ago wouldn't start! Was towed to dealership since my machanic couldn't work on code issues that was code that came up on Diagnostic machine! Was told by dealership today that the pcm, fuel pump and battery are all faulty! There were multiple recalls since 2020 for the pcm, fuel and electrical the 2014-2020 jeep cherokees. It was taken in for the two recalls we received and wasn't repaired, was just looked at! Now we are having more issues with the vehicle! I have reported this to Chrysler, they are supposed to return my call after making claim and speaking to dealership! This vehicle has had a new engine and transmission put in by dealership in 2016 under warranty. We spent over $3000 in repairs since then to the rear differential, exhaust and engine mounts! Was told this new repair will be another $3000 for the fuel pump, pcm, and battery!

We purchased this vehicle in 6/2020. Last year had to replace the fuel system because of the vehicle randomly stalling after filling up the tank. This happened randomly so it could have caused a life threatening situation. The cause of this stalling is fuel getting into the EVAP system, and requires replacing the fuel pump and evaporative charcoal canister to rectify. No recall on this even though numerous complaints, it costed us $1700. We now have been having issues of the vehicle hesitating when pulling into traffic and issues with the automatic gear shifting randomly since about 70,000 miles on the car. Recently it got so bad the vehicle would slow down while pressing on the accelerator. We took it into the dealership and they were able to uncover a transmission issue even though there were no warning lights or system warnings. If we didn’t take it in it could have caused a serious injury and accident. There are recalls on more expensive and newer models of this same model 9 speed transmissions but all Chrysler is doing for this model is doing a cheap software update that has NOTHING to do with the issue many cars are having. After filling up the gas tank the engine stalls at stop light. I must quickly place car in park and restart the engine. This happens multiple times as I drive home. Then as I start driving again the engine seems to be hesitant and feels like it is "bucking" me. After the first time this happened it seemed to go away after fuel level in tank went down. When I filled the tank again the problem reappeared. This has happened twice to me. This is really a life threatening hazard.

At a stoplight or red light, the car will sometimes start revving up, like it wants to go, while my foot is on the brake. The check engine light will then come on, and It'll then come up with a notification on the dash saying "Shift to P then desired gear". The photo is also attached. This is very annoying, as it happens while driving too. When it comes up during driving, when you press the gas, it will not go any faster and starts slowing down. This is dangerous and needs fixed. Took it to the garage, and they couldn't figure out what is happening, even with the check engine light!

When the fuel tank is filled, to the first click off of the pump. The vehicle will stall, sputter, and is hard to accurate. The dealer has all ready replaced the fuel tank, evap line, and a puger valve, but still has the same problems. I have almost getting rear ended when it stalls a couple of times. Still has been going on for 2+ year. Vehicle drives fine after 30ish miles after filling it up.

Leaving to go get Wife's computer today my Jeep ran terrible, kept trying to stall I just filled up at Costco to top off the tank yesterday. In the next subdivision after passing through the back gate the transmission "D" light started blinking. Pressing the gas pedal at 15 miles an hour did nothing. No forward acceleration nor any acceleration at all. Just coasted to pull over where I could safely as the Jeep coasted powerless. Pressing the gas peddle barely raised RPMs like a throttle car would have done. I had to stop the Jeep put it in park and then put it back in "D" drive and it at least my jeep moved forward when pressing the gas peddle. As I continued to drive out through the subdivision towards a main street, the transmission kept clunking and thumping. Felt like the transmission was loose and dangling under the Jeep, but it is still securely bolted to the Jeep. I decided to go back get Wife's car and drop the stupid Jeep off at the dealer again to find out what's wrong with it. At least if it broke down on the side of the road I could run our errands. This constant problem is a major safety concern. If this happens on the interstate it can easily cause a major crash. The dealer can't figure out what is wrong, or so they claim. This happens every couple of months. I don't trust Jeep to keep me safe while driving. This needs to be investigated so owners know the truth.

When trying to fuel the vehicle, the pump continually shuts off. Jeep repaired this once while under warranty, but it has happened a second time and an internet search confirms this is a known issue. It could be an issue with the evap hose design. The safety concern is the rate at which fuel is added to the tank. With this issue, the flow rate has to be reduced enough to allow the fumes to escape through the down flow spout which is a fire hazard if there are any sparks. At the lower flow rate, it's easy to overflow the tank as it's the only way to bypass the automatic shutoff.

I am the sole owner of 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. No miles when purchased. All recalls were kept up, all oil changes were made and vehicle has been taken care of. Without warning, my jeep started not excepting fuel or verily at all. Jeep was taken to the local dealership, that sold me the jeep. The air line that allows for vapor locking was completely filled with sediment and mud. After investigation by the dealer they the line had allowed for sediment and mud to overflow into the gas tank line, plugging it. I am now looking at a $2,000 repair bill to replace the air line and my gas tank as there is no way according to the dealer to get the sediment out because of the blockages. The air line and tank are in line with the back wheel well so it is poor manufacturing placement for this on the jeep and even if I do fix it, it will do it again in the future because of the way it was built. No warning lights, no recalls or help so from the Jeep company. Fortunately in my case I was not traveling and was within distance of the dealer otherwise it would have left me and my family stranded.

The fuel tank has an abnormal amount of seepage. When filling with 87 octane gasoline, intermittently shortly after filling, the cars engine will completely stall while in motion. Also afterwards it may have trouble starting or be unable to start at all until waiting many minutes.

This vehicle has a known issue that has been ongoing for years. If the gas tank is filled (but not topped off) the car will stall when you begin driving when it sits idle at a traffic light or stop sign during the first 30 minutes of use until some gas burns off. When this car was purchased used in Dec 2017 it happened immediately after the first full tank. When idling or right as you step on the gas the car starts “puttering” and stalls. A message states something like “put car in park and restart”. The only way to restart the car is to put it in park, turn it off completely, and restart it. The when you try to go again, it might stall or it might not. This can happen over and over again. When we determined what was the cause we got in the habit of not filling the tank completely, but sometimes you forget. Then as you start driving, it stalls…multiple times. This is an extremely dangerous situation to be in when the car stalls in the middle of an intersection and will likely end up causing a fatal accident. During a recent recall appointment at Jeep service department, the car stalled as I was pulling into the service department parking lot, so they first hand experienced the issue…in fact the service advisor had trouble starting the car. Jeep service called me later and told me there was an existing “Star Case” with Jeep corporate. Case number S1814000002. This symptom in the document are exactly what I am experiencing. The suggested repair to is replace the fuel pump, fuel pump “O” ring, and the Evaporative Charcoal canister totaling about $1400. If you google “jeep S1814000002” you will find dozens and dozens of other complaints about the same issue, and not just for the Cherokee, it is other Jeeps as well. While this is a known issue, Jeep refuses to fix or issue a recall on this extremely dangerous safety issue.

I was driving on the highway approximately 60mph, suddenly the service 4wd light appears. I took it to a Jeep dealership service center and diagnose and needed a 2 speed transfer case unit. It was replaced costing a little under $3000. The problem was not fixed and garage said it was misdiagnosed and still doesn’t know what’s wrong. Now the vehicle stalls while I’m driving and will not start immediately. I’m afraid this is going to cause an accident! Also it will have a sudden acceleration or a delayed acceleration while driving or when moving from a complete stop. This is very scary!

Gas cap warning light. The night it appeared, got gas filled up the car gas tank. Put cap back on tank , pulled out drove approx. 1/4 mile car completely shut down at a red light and has several times. I ask dealership about it. They cleared code. Said I could buy a new cap I did. Did not help. Have it at mechanics today for testing. He thought there was a recall for this problem but I did not find one.

2014 Cherokee Limited with a 2.4L I am the original owner, and have had all services done. Car is in good shape. This is now a persistent problem each time I refuel. Within a few minutes or miles, the car engine will stall, tell me that I have to put the car in Park to restart. This is extremely dangerous and has happened to me in the middle of intersections or driving down a street. I fill the tank, I don't overfill it. When the pump clicks off, I am done and don't add more. Then I drive off and for about 5-10 minutes, I am at risk of the car stalling. I have had it happen while driving, and more often when I stop at a light. It will restart. But this happens ONLY after I refill the tank.

3/1/2021: Rough idle and overheating after filling up gas tank that morning upon arriving at work. Jeep had problems when leaving work at roughly 1630. Idles poorly, very rough and dipped from 900 rpm down to 200 rpm while almost stalling. I decided to drive home and thought it may be a little water in the gas from filling up that morning on MacDill. Ran rough on the way out of MacDill. At the home depot traffic light, the transmission would not engage and I had to switch to park and back into drive. Once onto Gandy Blvd the temperature started to overheat. I turned on the heater to act as a second radiator and decided to shoot for Jeep dealer in St. Pete. I made it there and caught a ride home with Wife's sister. Dealer drove Jeep on Tuesday a total of 23 miles without any temperature above 202. Told that lot boy and service supervisor drove it. No charge since St. Pete Jeep couldn't find any faults. I had Wife take me to pick it up. On ride home got up to 207. No rough idle. ***Rough idle and stalling while driving in traffic continued. Noticed this always occurred after filling gas tank up to full*** Jun 29, 2021: Got gas again at MacDill Monday morning upon arrival at work. Monday afternoon car ran terrible. Remote start stalled before I got to Jeep. Started up again when I got to car and engine ran rough. Nearly stalled several times. Engine almost stalled at final left turn while heading to gate. Transmission indicator flashed again and transmission failed to work. Display showed to place in park to select drive. Had to coast up onto median to keep from blocking traffic when engine started to stall again when light turned green and I proceeded through light. Occasionally Ran rough all the way home for the 43 miles and 1 hour drive. This time there was no significant overheating. Just went up to low 200s. Decided to submit a NHTSA complaint since dealership said they wouldn't be able to find anything wrong if no check engine light came on. Dangerous

Had just filled gas tank (1st time since we purchased the vehicle on 6/9/21). Stopped at traffic light. Engine quit and dashboard message advised to put car in park and push start button. Car started but quit almost immediately. While in park tried to rev engine, but got minimal response. When traffic light changed, proceeded forward. "Transmission Service Needed" message appeared, and D (Drive) on gearshift and on dashboard started blinking. Check Engine light was, (and remains) on. Car quit 3rd time, same "Transmission Service Needed" message appeared. When I got home, put car in reverse to back into driveway, got aloud clunking sound. Shut off engine and kept it off for 30-40 minutes. Started the car again and took it around the block, but none of the previous issues repeated.

THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHEN STOPPED AT INTERSECTIONS AND WHILE IN MOTION AND DRIVING ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS. IS A HAZARD AS HAPPENS QUICKLY AND NO WARNING SO CAN NOT PULL OVER. YESTERDAY, I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED THREE TIMES ON AN INTERSTATE IN ATLANTA WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLED WHILE I WAS IN MOTION. HERE IS WHAT ONE MECHANIC SAID: YOUR VEHICLE HAS AN ISSUE WITH VENTILATION FROM THE FUEL PUMP, THE GAS HAS NOWHERE ELSE TO GO BUT GET SUCKED UP TOWARDS THE ENGINE. THE PUMP IS FAILING, THE CHARCOAL CANISTER IS FULL OF FUEL, THE EVAP SYSTEM INTEGRITY MODULE IS FULL OF FUEL AND THE PURGE IS PUSHING FUEL INTO THE INTAKE WHICH IS DROWNING THE MOTOR AND SHUTTING IT OFF. HE SAID IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, AND THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS WITH THE EXACT MAKE AND MODEL OF THE CAR. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY CAR, AND IT ONLY HAS 36,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND A LOT OF FELLOW OWNERS OF 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE TRAILHAWKS TO ALSO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I AM OUT OF MY MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY AND THE EXTENDED COVERAGE I PURCHASED FOR THE VEHICLE COVERS EVERY ASPECT OF THE FUELING SYSTEM EXCEPT THE TANK. I FIND THAT TO BE QUITE ODD. IN FACT, THE COMPANY DOES NOT OFFER ANY TYPE OF COVERAGE THAT WOULD COVER THE FUEL TANK ITSELF. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY DID SOME WORK ON THE TRANSMISSION. IN NOVEMBER 2019, JUST AFTER REFUELING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE I WAS AT A BUSY TRAFFIC LIGHT DURING RUSH HOUR. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUE AFTER THAT. IN JANUARY 2020, I REFUELED MY CAR, DROVE MAYBE 10 MILES AND THE CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AGAIN AT A BUSY STOP LIGHT IN A LARGE HIGHWAY INTERSECTION. THIS TIME THE CAR JERKED, THEN I GOT THE SAME TRANSMISSION ERROR AS THE FIRST TIME. I TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN ON, AND I WAS ABLE TO LIMP TO MY JOB (SAME DIFFICULT STEERING AND ACCELERATION). TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY ADDRESSED A RECALL ISSUE (TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE) AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (OIL PRESSURE SENSOR). IN MARCH 2020, JUST AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, IT STARTED LOSING POWER AT A RED LIGHT. IT DIDN'T FULLY LOSE POWER BEFORE I MADE IT TO MY HOUSE AND HAD IT TOWED. NOW THAT I'VE MADE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN REFUELING AND POWER LOSS, THE DEALERSHIP HAS REALIZED THAT THERE IS A FAULTY VALVE OR SENSOR CAUSING GAS TO LEAK INTO PLACES IT SHOULDN'T. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S COMMON ISSUE, AND IT'S HONESTLY VERY UNSAFE SINCE THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AS YOU ARE DRIVING!!!

UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT GEAR FLUID LEAKED FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DIFFERENTIAL AXLE BEARINGS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.

THE CAR THEN START WITH OUT PUSHING THE START BUTTON. THIS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES IN THE SAME DAY SO SHE DROVE TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP. JEEP SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP MODULE AND IT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS OVER FILLED. MY WIFE ALWAYS STOPS PUTTING WHEN THE PUMP HANDLE CLICKS OFF. THEY HAVE HAD HER CAR FOR OVER 30 DAYS BECAUSE THERE ARE NO NEW PUMPS AVAILABLE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT CAN HAPPEN AT ANYTIME. HER CAR HAS ONLY 36,500 MILES ON IT. WHEN GOING TO REFILL THE GAS TANK, THE FUEL PUMP WOULD STOP AFTER VERY LITTLE FUEL HAD BEEN PUMPED INTO THE TANK, AS IF IT WERE VAPOR LOCK. I TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT FUEL PUMPS AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS, TO RULE OUT THE PUMP BEING THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE JEEP INTO THE DEALER AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE ARE NO BLOCKAGES, BUT TO FIX THE PROBLEM THE FUEL SPOUT AND THE TANK NEED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS ONLINE, I WAS FLOORED TO SEE MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. MY JEEP HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND SERVICED CORRECTLY. FOR A 5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 80K MILES ON IT, I FIND IT INEXCUSABLE TO HAVE TO REPLACE A FUEL TANK AND SPOUT FOR A FAULTY IN EITHER DESIGN, OR BAD PARTS.

I WAS AT THE GAS STATION FILLING UP WHEN THE GAS PUMP HANDLE WOULD NOT ALLOW GAS TO FLOW INTO THE TANK UNLESS IT WAS AT A GREATLY REDUCED FLOW. THE AUTO STOP FEATURE OF THE GAS PUMP HANDLE DID NOT WORK AT LOW FLOW AND THE GAS SPILLED ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE CONCRETE AREA CREATING A FIRE HAZARD. THE DEALERSHIP HAS SINCE TOLD ME THAT THE CAR MAY HAVE A DEFECTIVE VALVE. THIS PROBLEM GOES BACK TO THE YEAR 2012 AND HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. THIS IS EVIDENCED BY A SIMPLE WEB SEARCH. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND PLACED THE SHIFTER TO NEUTRAL THEN BACK TO DRIVE. I PROCEEDED DOWN THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE AGAIN SHIFTED IN TO NEUTRAL AND THE DISPLAY STATED THE SAME, TO PLACE IN PARK THEN SELECT DRIVE. THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN TWO MILES AFTER FILLING UP. I DROVE IT ANOTHE 60 MILES OR SO AFTER THIS WITH NO PROBLEMS. HAD NO REAL PROBLEMS BEFORE THIS, OTHER THAN THE SHIFTING LAG EVERYONE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT. ALL RECALLS HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED. ONLY FIX AT THIS POINT WAS TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. STALLING INDICATIONS HAPPEN AS SOON AS FOOT IS REMOVED FROM ACCELERATOR (WHETHER COASTING OR WHILE STOPPED. BATTERY LIGHT WILL COME ON AND DASH BOARD WILL ADVISE TO PUT CAR IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN GEAR. SOMETIMES, IT REQUIRES TURNING THE IGNITION AGAIN TO GET CAR MOVING AGAIN. IF COASTING ON INTERSTATE, THIS MAKES FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION OF CAR NOT RESPONDING TO PICK UP SPEED DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. ONCE SAID IT WAS THE BATTERY; I REPLACED IT. THE OTHER FIRST SAID IT WAS OIL CONSUMPTION WITH THE ENGINE BUT WHEN THAT TURNED OUT NOT TO BE THE CASE THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER/JEEP ARE TELLING ME THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM DUE TO OVERFILLING THE GAS AND THAT THE ONLY FIX IS NOT TO TOP OFF THE GAS TANK. VEHICLE STARTED LOSING POWER WHILE STOPPED AT LIGHT IN TRAFFIC, LESS THAN A MILE DOWN THE ROAD WHILE COMING TO A STOP THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LUNGE FORWARD AS IF I WAS ACCELERATING THEN VEHICLE LOST POWER AND ENGINE STOPPED. VEHICLE MESSAGE STATED TO 'SHIFT TO PARK AND THAN SELECT DESIRED GEAR.' ONCE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED TO PARK AND THEN TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY WENT INTO 'LIMP MODE' NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I MADE THE 5 MILE JOURNEY BACK HOME WITH THE VEHICLE LOSING POWER WHILE SLOWING OR LUNGING WHILE STOPPING. 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE~50K MILES: BOUGHT BRAND NEW FROM DEALERSHIP AND EXCLUSIVELY DEALER MAINTAINED...A YEAR AGO 2 THINGS SPONTANEOUSLY STARTED HAPPENING TO MY JEEP. 1-AS I WOULD SLOW DOWN AND COME TO A STOP MY CAR WOULD SHUT OFF, STALL OUT. 2-AS I WAS DRIVING MY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT WOULD START FLASHING AND THE JEEP WOULD NOT RUN RIGHT. I WOULD PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF, RESET THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THEN I WOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SOMETIMES IT WOULD HAPPEN AFTER 5 MILES OF DRIVING, OTHER TIMES I WOULD GO OVER 100 MILES WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAD APPROXIMATELY 25% REMAINING ON MY OIL LIFE CYCLE-LAST OIL CHANGE LESS THAN 6MONTHS/5000 MILES. I TESTED THE BATTERY AND A FEW THINGS BEFORE I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALER SAID MY OIL LEVEL WAS DANGEROUSLY LOW AND I NEED A FUEL SYSTEM CLEANING. THEY DID AN OIL CHANGE AND FUEL CLEANING, ASKED ME TO COME BACK AFTER DRIVING 1000 MILES FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THEY SAID THE RESULT OF THE TEST WAS WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS. A YEAR LATER, AGAIN AROUND 20% OIL LIFE REMAINING-LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AND LESS THAN 5000 MILES SINCE LAST OIL CHANGE I AM GETTING THE SAME SYMPTOMS-ALL THREE LIGHTS COMING ON, CAR STALLED ON SEPARATE OCCASION. WILL BE BRINGING BACK TO DEALER THIS WEEK, HOWEVER THIS CAR HAS RECEIVED ALL OIL CHANGES BY DEALER WITHIN THE PROPER TIME AND I TAKE GOOD CARE OF THE CAR- THIS SEEMS A BIT DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. LATER, WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. LATER, THE WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SWITCH INTO THE PARK POSITION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.

FILLED TANK WITH FUEL. DROVE ABOUT 1/4 MILE AND STOPPED AT LIGHT TO TURN ONTO HIGHWAY, CAR STALLED AND DASH READS "SHIFT TO P THEN DESIRED GEAR", PICTURE ATTACHED, THEN DROVE ABOUT 6 MILES. HAD TO STOP AND AT LIGHT CAR STALLED AND DASH READ SAME AS ABOVE..THIS HAPPENED WHEN I STOPPED AT WORK AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING TO DEALER HAPPENED BOTH TIMES I NEEDED TO STOP AND SAME WHEN I PULLED UNDER THE SERVICE AREA AT THE DEALER..DEALER SAID THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH FUEL SYSTEM..THE PROBLEM IS THE VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR VALVE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VALVE IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT LIQUID FUEL FROM ENTERING THE CHARCOAL CANISTER/EMISSIONS SYSTEM. WHEN THE VALVE FAILS, LIQUID GAS CAN ENTER THE LINE AND FILL THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. AFTER REFUELING THE PCM ON THE VEHICLE DETECTS A CHANGE IN FUEL LEVEL. THEN, WHEN THE ENGINE MEETS CERTAIN TEMPERATURE AND DRIVING CRITERIA, THE PCM ISSUES A PURGE COMMAND TO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER TO REMOVE THE STORED GAS VAPORS. IT'S AT THAT POINT THAT ALL THE LIQUID GAS IN THE LINE GETS SUCKED INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER. THE PCM EXPECTS TO SEE GAS VAPORS ENTERING THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND IT IS PREPARED TO ADJUST AIR/FUEL MIXTURES TO COMPENSATE. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT PREPARED TO SEE LIQUID GAS COMING INTO THE INTAKE. THAT'S WHAT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STALL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, SHOULD BE A RECALL IN MY OPINION. I CAN EITHER PAY $1,700 FOR A NEW SYSTEM... AND IS THE NEW FUEL PUMP REDESIGNED? 19V-447. WE BEGAN HAVING THIS ISSUE LAST YEAR WHERE WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE CAUSE OF IT WAS. INITIALLY THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN JERKING WHILE ACCELERATING AND CONTINUE EVEN AT HIGH SPEEDS. THIS WAS INTERMITTENT AND WHENEVER WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ON THIS THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE IT HAPPENING. IT BEGAN GETTING WORSE WITHIN A FEW MONTHS AND ONE DAY LAST MONTH WHEN MY WIFE WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN SHE ACCELERATED AND LOST ALL POWER TO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BECOME DISABLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. WE FILED A CLAIM AND HAD OUR VEHICLE TOWED TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP.. THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY LOSE ALL POWER TO THE GAS AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION LIGHT TO COME ON. THE VEHICLE BLINKS THAT IN ORDER TO GET THE JEEP TO START UP AGAIN IT MUST BE SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THEN IT CONTINUES TO BLINK THE TRANSMISSION WARNING. WE'VE BEEN LUCKY TO NOT HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT YET BUT THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WE WERE TOLD ROUGHLY A MONTH AGO WHEN WE BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICING AT OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP IT WAS FLASHED AND FIXED. AFTER RESEARCHING AND FINDING THERE WAS NO FIX, WE WERE CLEARLY MISLEAD BY THE REPAIR SHOP. WE HAVE A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STALLING AFTER EACH GAS FILL UP. THE CAR HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR 8-12 MONTHS, BUT LAST FRIDAY AFTER A FILL UP IT NOT ONLY STALLED BUT JOLTED AND THE TRANSMISSION SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE D AND R SIGNS BEGAN TO FLASH ON THE DASH AND GEAR SHIFT. THIS CAR CONTINUES TO TURN OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING! TODAY IT TURNED OFF ON ME ON AN INTERSECTION! THE CAR JERKED, STARTED TO SHAKE & THEN MANY LIGHTS CAME ON. WHILE FILLING THE FUEL TANK THE PUMP AT THE STATION KEPT SHUTTING OFF. I CHANGED PUMPS AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PLACE MORE THAN 3 GALLONS OF FUEL IN THE CAR OVER 10 MINUTES. I CHANGED GAS STATIONS AND HAVE CONTINUED TO HAVE THE ISSUE. THE CAR CANNOT BE FILLED. IT HAS BEEN TO 3 DEALERS AND IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. THE FUEL IN THE FILLER TUBE IS BACKING UP AND NOT ALLOWING GAS TO GET SMOOTHLY INTO THE TANK. CURRENTLY THEY CANNOT FIX THE ISSUE ALTHOUGH IT IS A REGISTERED KNOWN ISSUE AND DOES NOT AFFECT ALL CARS OF THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS AND JEEP IS NOT FIXING THE CARS WITHOUT CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE TO MOST OWNERS.

MY VECHILE SHIFTS REALLY HARD AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WHEN DRIVING IT. MY HUSBAND GOT INTO THE CAR AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE OKAY WITH IT AND HE DECIDED TO DRIVE IT RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD AND SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH IT. ABOUT 3 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, HE WAS GOING THE SPEED LIMIT, 45 MPH, AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, THE BRAKES LOCK, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF AND THE SCREEN SAID SERVICE TRANSMISSION AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE CODE WAS FOR A FUEL PUMP. WE WERE TOLD THIS WAS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION AND WAS A BIG ISSUE WITH THESE MODELS. THEY SAID IT NEEDS A NEW FUEL PUMP AND EVAC SYSTEM.

AT AROUND 50,000 MILES, THE CHECK VALVE ON THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE MALFUNCTIONED. THIS MALFUNCTION CAUSED FUEL FILL NOZZLES AT THE GAS STATION TO AUTOMATICALLY STOP AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO FILL THE TANK. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THIS ISSUE AS A CHECK VALVE AND THE ONLY SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE WAS REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK.

THE VEHICLE'S GAS TANK HAS STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN I TRY TO FILL IT UP, IT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STOPS THE PUMP AND USUALLY SHOOT GAS BACK OUT ALL OVER ME HAND AND CLOTHES. I AM ABLE TO GET VERY SMALL AMOUNTS OF GAS IN THE TANK, BUT NOT WITHOUT GETTING GAS SPILLED EVERYWHERE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY/FIRE HAZARD. MY LOCAL JEEP DEALER FIRST SAID THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND LATER SAID THAT I NEEDED A NEW FUEL TANK AND THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $1200 PLUS. I THEN CALLED CHRYSLER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM TO SEE IF THEY WOULD VOLUNTARILY FIX IT. TOO SAY THAT IT WAS AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT. CHRYSLER SAID THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE, THAT IT WAS MY PROBLEM AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE MY GAS TANK. THEY DID NOT APPEAR TO CARE THAT GAS GETTING ALL OVER MY HANDS AND CLOTHES WAS DANGEROUS.

WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF PREMATURELY AS IF IT WAS FULL AFTER ON 1-2 TENTHS OF A GALLON. TO FILL UP THE TANK TOOK ABOUT 10 MINUTES BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTIONING. SOON AFTER THIS THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO DEFAULT AND SHIFT TO NEUTRAL WHICH IS A BAD THING WHEN CROSSING MULTIPLE LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WHAT I THOUGHT WAS SAFE I SOON LEARNED WAS A SERIOUS RISK TO OTHERS AS WELL AS MYSELF. THIS STARTED HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND A SOLUTION WAS NEVER FOUND. THE VEHICLE WOULD WORK FINE FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN THE VICIOUS CYCLE OF THE ONGOING ISSUE OF DEFAULTING TO NEUTRAL WHILE IN TRAFFIC WOULD OCCUR. JUST THE OTHER DAY THE DIAGNOSIS "POST WARRANTY" IDENTIFIED THAT THE VAPOR CANISTER AND FUEL PUMP WAS THE ISSUE. EARLIER I WAS TOLD THAT REPLACING THE BATTERY SOLVED THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, WHICH WASN'T TO BE. REPLACING THE VAPOR CANISTER, AND FUEL PUMP COST $1292.45 AND I'VE ONLY DRIVEN MY VEHICLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP TO THE GARAGE.

AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR, I SUDDENLY SMELLED GASOLINE WHILE DRIVING AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS HARD TO START. TURNS OUT THE FUEL PUMP UNIT HAS A CRACK IN THE TOP WHICH IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I AM PRESENTLY AWAITING THE $650 PART AND THE CAR WILL BE REPAIRED NEXT WEEK ($190 LABOR). THE THING IS, I WAS INITIALLY TOLD BY MY REPUTABLE CAR REPAIR SHOP OWNER THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES OVER AND IS PRETTY SURE THERE IS A RECALL AGAINST IT, THUS NO INITIAL CHARGE. FOR WHATEVER THE REASON, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANOTHER REPORTED INCIDENT OF THIS SPECIFIC NATURE. NONETHELESS, THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE AND IS WHY I AM REPORTING IT (IN ADDITION TO HAVING TO SPEND $840 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM).

CAR ENGINE STALLED IN TURNING AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. HAD TROUBLE RESTARTING CAR. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS CAR POWERED BACK ON AND BROUGHT TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHICH DIAGNOSTIC CODE CAME UP FOR A LEAK IN A HOSE THAT FUELS THE ENGINE. BROUGHT CAR TO DEALSHIP AND EXPLAINED THAT OIL LEVEL WAS LOW AND NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THIS WAS 2000 MILE AWAY FROM THE RECOMMENDED 5000 MILE OIL CHANGE. CAR OIL CHANGED AND DIAGNOSTIC CODE CLEARED AND THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN 2000 MILES AWAY FROM THE 5000 MILE RECCOMEND OIL CHANGE. ISSUE IS REPETITIVE FOR ABOUT 5 TIMES IN 3 YEARS.

A PROMPT ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD STATE "PLACE GEAR INTO PARK" AND A RESTART OF VEHICLE WOULD BE NECESSARY. FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPEN IN 2/19/2018 AND 3/28/2018. WHEN FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE WAS DROPPED OFF AT DEALERSHIP AND WAS INSTRUCTED BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE "FLASHED OR REPROGRAMMED" TO RESOLVE ISSUE. SINCE THEN, THE SECOND OCCURRENCE HAPPENED RECENTLY 3/28/2018 AND IT NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER INSPECTION/DIAGNOSTIC. IT WAS THEN MENTIONED BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE REASON FOR CUT-OFF ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS LOW ON OIL (1 QUART LESS). THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN HAVING THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BY A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE TANK, LESS THAN 0.25 GALLONS WILL GO INTO THE TANK BEFORE THE PUMP CUTS OFF. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE TO DO WITH THE PUMPS AT THE STATION. SO WE TOOK IT TO OTHER STATIONS TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CONTINUE. THERE HAS BEEN NO CHANGE TO THE SITUATION SINCE IT BEGAN. WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WERE TOLD A VALVE IN THE TANK HAD FAILED AND THE ENTIRE TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. OTHERS WHO HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM ON LINE HAVE SAID THAT REPLACING THE TANK IS NOT A GUARANTEE OF ELIMINATING THE PROBLEM. AFTER REPLACING THE TANK, THE PROBLEM REOCCURRED.

THIS STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AGO WHEN MY VEHICLE 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE HAD APX 60000 MILES, WHEN I FILL MY GAS TANK I NEED TO TRICKLE THE FUEL IN. IF TRY TO FILL IT TOO FAST IT WILL SHUT OFF THE PUMP, MAKING IT APX 10-15 MINUTES TO PUMP 10 OR MORE GALLONS, WHEN IT IS FINELY IS FULL, IT WILL OVER FLOW AND "BURP" OUT THE FUEL ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE PERSON FILLING THE TANK. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AND IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE FUEL TANK WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WOULD BE 2 TO 4 WEEKS. IN THE MEAN TIME THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY BEFORE THE BACK ORDERED TANK CAME IN. NOTE THE DEALER NEVER DID CALL WHEN THE PART CAME IN IF IT DID. I DID NOT HAVE THE TANK REPLACE THIS LASTED APX 6 MONTHS UNTIL THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT, THAT IS DANGEROUS (SPILLED FUEL), ENVIRONMENTALLY BAD AND WASTEFUL. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE HEAR ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM FROM SEVERAL EMPLOYEES AT THE GAS STATIONS I HAVE USED. I WOULD UNDERSTAND IF THERE WAS A WEARABLE PART INVOLVED, BUT WHAT CAN WEAR OUT ON A FUEL TANK IN 60000 MILES AND 2.5 YEARS. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A JEEP RECALL AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY JEEP.

I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND JEEP STATED THEY BELIEVED THAT THE ROLL OVER VALVE HAD MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING IT TO STICK AND THAT THE GAS TANK NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED THE CAUSE OF THIS TYPE OF ISSUE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED IT "SOMETIMES JUST HAPPENS" AND CONFIRMED MULTIPLE TIMES IT WAS "NO FORM OF MISSED MAINTENANCE" THAT IT "JUST HAPPENS". UPON FURTHER INSPECTION AND MECHANICAL REVIEW, THE TANK DOESN'T CONTAIN THE VALVE ITSELF, THE FUEL PUMP CONTAINS THE VALVE WHICH SOMEHOW JUST GOT "STUCK" IN TURN MAKING THE VEHICLE THINK IT HAD ROLLED OVER, SHUTTING OFF FLOW TO PREVENT FIRES. I HAD THE PUMP REPLACED AND THE CAR IS FUNCTIONING FINE.

AFTER FILLING MY TANK WITH GAS I TURNED ONTO A NEARBY ROADWAY AND FELT MY CAR SPUTTERING AND JERKING. AS I CAME TO A SLOW STOP AT A STOP LIGHT MY CAR ABRUPTLY SLAMMED TO A STOP AND MADE A LOUD BANG/SLAMMING NOISE AND PROMPTED ME TO SHIFT TO PARK AND RESTART THE CAR. I FOLLOWED THESE COMMANDS AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. AS SOON AS I WOULD SHIFT OUT OF PARK THE LOUD SLAMMING WOULD OCCUR AGAIN AND I BEGAN TO SMELL FUMES SO I STOPPED TRYING TO FOLLOW THE PROMPTS. I PUT MY CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUSHED MY CAR OUT OF THE MOVING TRAFFIC LANES AND GOT IT TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE AND GAVE IT BACK. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE 3 TIMES SINCE. THEY REPLACED AN EVAPORATION PRESSURE SWITCH THE SECOND TIME I TOOK MY CAR IN AND THIS STILL HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE. THE LAST TIME THE ISSUE OCCURRED I WAS SLOWING DOWN ON A HIGHWAY IN DENSE TRAFFIC AND AS TRAFFIC STARTED MOVING AGAIN MY GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS I ONLY HEARD LOUD REVVING NOISES AS MY CAR COASTED.. WHEN I WENT TO PRESS THE BRAKES AND PULL OFF THE ROAD I IMMEDIATELY HEARD THE LOUD SLAMMING NOISE AND MY CAR BROKE DOWN AGAIN IN A VERY UNSAFE LOCATION ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAITED ONE HOUR AND MY CAR WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND I SLOWLY GOT IT OFF THE HIGHWAY WITH MY E-LIGHTS ON. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE SHOP AFTER THE NEW YEAR.. AGAIN. WHEN IT OCCURS THE VEHICLE STILL HAS POWER RUNNING THROUGH AND A NOTICES ALWAYS POPS UP SAYING "CAR MUST BE IN PARK IN ORDER TO SHIFT." IN ALL CASES I HAVE HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAIT SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE THE CAR WAS ABLE TO TURN BACK ON. IN ALL CASES NO INDICATOR LIGHT APPEARED AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO GET SERVICED THEW FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE BATTERY. THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT TO GET SERVICED I WAS TOLD THE EVAPORATED CANISTER AND PURGE SOLENOID HAD TO REPLACED. THE ISSUE STILL EXISTS AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS ASKED ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS IS UNTIL A SERVICE LIGHT APPEARS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM CAN BE. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AS IS.

I LOOKED IT UP AND THERE APPEARS TO BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN REGARDS TO FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND CHRYSLER KNEW OF THIS. I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT THIS WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN AND CALLED SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE SAME THING. THEY UPDATED THE COMPUTER AND REPLACED A PART AND NOW THEY ARE BASICALLY TELLING ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS EXCEPT THAT IT MAY BE FROM FILLING UP MY GAS TANK AND IT MAKING THE ENGINE STALL BUT NO SOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM BESIDES NOT FILLING MY TANK I AM GUESSING. MY WIFE'S 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS 40K MILES ON IT AND ABOUT A MONTH AGO SHE TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE IT STARTED SHUDDERING/VIBRATING AND THEN SHUT-OFF/STALLED ON HER AND DISPLAYED 'SERVICE TRANSMISSION'. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER HERE IN VA AND THEY SAID IT WAS SOFTWARE RECALLS THAT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. WE TOOK IT BACK 2 MORE TIMES TO THIS SAME DEALERSHIP AND THEY SECOND TIME THEY SAID CONVENIENTLY THAT ANOTHER SOFTWARE FIX HAD COME OUT TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT WE HAD TO PAY FOR IT REGARDLESS OF HAVING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE AS THE SERVICE TECH PUT IT 'THINGS BREAK'. THE THIRD TIME THEY TOLD MY WIFE IT WAS HER FAULT FOR 'OVER FILLING THE GAS TANK WHILE PUMPING' SINCE THE ISSUES SEEM TO HAPPEN WITHOUT FAIL EVERY TIME SHE HAS FILLED THE CAR UP TO A FULL TANK SINCE THE FIRST ISSUE. NOW WE ARE TAKING IT TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE (4TH TIME NO FIX).

SEVERAL INCIDENTS WHERE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOOSES ABILITY TO MOVE FORWARD. ENGINE STILL RUNS, DISPLAY SAYS SHIFT TO PARK, THEN BACK TO DESIRED GEAR. CHECK TRANSMISSION LIGHT, CHECK PARKING BRAKE LIGHT. LOSS OF POWER OCCURS SUDDENLY - HAS OCCURED WHILE CROSSING INTERSECTION. REQUIRES STOPPING CAR. PUTTING IN PARK. USUALLY I ALSO HAVE TO SHUT DOWN IGNITION AND RESTART, THEN SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE. PROBLEM RESETS THE TRANSMISSION, CAUSING ANY LEARNING DATA TO BE ABSENT - FIRST SHIFTS INTO GEAR EXTREMELY ROUGH. VEHICLE HAS HAD TRANSMISSION RECALL PREFORMED - BUT THIS IS NOT THE ISSUE. CHRYSLER HAS INFORMED ME THAT CERTAIN ERRORS CAN OCCUR THAT SEND A SHUT DOWN CODE TO THE TRANSMISSION. OBD2 CODE WHEN THIS HAPPENED FOR ME WAS P1DDD-00. THEY SAY THAT FUEL VALVE ISSUES IN THE FUEL SYSTEM CAUSE THE CODE, WHICH IN TURN SHUTS DOWN TRANSMISSION. NOTE ATTACHED SERVICE BULLETIN THAT HINTS AT ISSUE. THE CRAZY THING IS A FAULT IN THE FUELS SYSTEM ALLOWS THE ENGINE TO CONTINUE (GREAT SINCE ENGINE CONTINUES - NOW MY CAR ENGINE COULD CATCH ON FIRE AND I HAVE NO MOTIVE POWER) - BUT RESETS THE TRANSMISSION, LEAVING ONE STRANDED FOR SEVERAL MOMENTS WHERE EVER THIS OCCURS. CHRYSLER TELLS ME OTHER ISSUES CAN CAN CAUSE TRANSMISSION SHUT DOWN IN LIEU OF GOING TO LIMP MODE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES OF THIS IN THE 3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP - MANY PEOPLE THINK THERE IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE - MAYBE THERE ARE ON SOME CARS - BUT NOW I LEARN THAT OTHER FAILURES CAN CAUSE RANDOM RESETS OF THE TRANSMISSION. CHRYSLER SAYS - SEE SERVICE BULLETIN - EVEN OVERFILLING GAS TANK CAN CAUSE THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND UNFIT TO BE ON THE STREETS.

WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS ALLOWED TO AUTO FUEL TO FULL, WITHOUT FORCING EXTRA FUEL IN THE TANK, THE VEHICLE WILL STUMBLE AND DIE WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC WHILE LEAVING THE FUELING STATION. IF WE PURPOSELY FUEL THE TANK NO MORE THAN 75%, THE ISSUE DOES NOT OCCUR. EVERY TIME THE TANK IS ALLOWED TO FUEL TO FULL, THE EVENT HAPPENS. AS SPEAKING WITH MY DEALERSHIP IN TEXAS, THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED AN INCREASING AWARENESS OF A RISE IN COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE PATRIOT AND CHEROKEE MODELS. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHICH DISABLES THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES, REGARDLESS OF THE ENVIRONMENT YOU HAVE ENTERED, WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILS. THE FUEL AND VAPOR SEPARATOR LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY IS APPARENTLY THE CULPRIT. WHEN RAW FUEL IS ALLOWED TO TRAVEL TO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER, THE ON BOARD COMPUTER RECOGNIZES A DIRE SITUATION AND SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE. I AM AN ASE MASTER MECHANIC AND WORK FOR A LARGE SCHOOL DISTRICT MANAGING THE FLEET. IMAGINE YOUR ELDERLY MOTHER OR GRANDMOTHER FACED WITH THIS SITUATION AN A BUSY HIGHWAY.

3-25-17 - TOMS RIVER, NJ VT - FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM I PURCHASED A JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE FROM LESTER GLENN IN TOMS RIVER I HAVE HAD CONSTANT FUELLING ISSUES FOR APX 2 WEEKS NOW. IT STARTED SUDDENLY THE PUMP CLICKS OFF AFTER LESS THE A GALLON HAS BEEN PUMPED LIKE IT IS FULL AND CONTINUES TO CLICK OFF WHILE TRYING TO FULL THE TANK. IT WOULD ALSO SOME TIMES "BURP UP" BEFORE IT WOULD SHUT OFF SPILLING FUEL ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. TAKING 15-20 MINUTES TO FILL THE TANK. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT SEVERAL DIFFERENCE GAS STATIONS. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THIS CHECKED, THEY TOLD ME THE FUEL TANK NEED REPLACED WHICH COST $800.00 PLUS LABOR AND TAXES. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO THE MILES ON MY CAR (56000). THIS SEEMS TO BE SAFETY ISSUE, AS THE FUEL SPILLS CAUSING BOTH A FIRE AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM. THIS ALSO SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AS THERE HAS NOT ANY DAMAGE OR MODIFICATIONS TO THE VEHICLE OR FUEL TANK, THE FUEL TANK IS NOT A WEARABLE PARTS AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY JEEP EVEN THOUGH I AN OVER THE MILES.

BROUGHT AT IN FOR JEEP SERVICE 3 TIMES AS IT SHAKES VIOLENTLY, DASHBOARD ENGINE & TRANSMISSION IDIOT LIGHTS TURN ON, CAR STALLS. THE 1ST AND 2ND TIME JEEP CLAIMED IT WAS DUE TO RECALLS NOW THEY BLAME US FOR OVERFILLING TANK. WE ARE ADAMANT THAT WE DID NOT OVERFILL. WHEN GAS TANK WAS FILLED THE PUMP NOZZLE WAS REMOVED WHEN IT CLICKED AND STOPPED. NOW WE ARE TOLD WE NEED A FUEL PUMP MODULE, EMISSION MONITOR, CARBON CANISTER & CELLULOIDS AT OUR EXPENSE OF $1200+. CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS HAPPENED WHEN SLOWING DOWN AT A LIGHT THE 1ST TIME ON A CITY STREET, PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE THE 2ND TIME AND PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY 3RD TIME. I CONTEND THAT IF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY PERHAPS THIS CREATED A SITUATION THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE PROPER VACUUM TO BUILD TO LET THE GAS STATION PUMP KNOW THE TANK WAS FULL. NO GAS SPILLED OUT AT THE PUMP. WE CANNOT HAVE A VEHICLE THAT CANNOT BE FILLED OR THAT WE CAN'T TRUST IS BEING READ CORRECTLY BY THE GAS PUMPS. CALL BACKS FROM CUSTOMER CARE ARE NEARLY NON-EXISTENT. CAR HAS BEEN IN THE JEEP SHOP SINCE FEBRUARY 28TH 2017

WHILE DRIVING MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE ON A CITY STREET, THE JEEP WOULD RANDOMLY LOSE POWER AND STOP MOVING. I WOULD BE ACCELERATING AFTER BEING AT A STOP LIGHT AND THE JEEP WOULD LOSE POWER AND STOP MOVING. ALSO, I WOULD BE TURNING THE CORNER AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND THE JEEP WOULD LOSE POWER AND STOP MOVING. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, I WOULD PLACE THE JEEP INTO PARK AND TURN IT OFF. I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT A MINIMUM OF 5 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART. ONCE IT RESTARTED, I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES BEFORE THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND A PROBABLE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THIS WAS ONLY AFTER I RE-CREATED THE PROBLEM FOR THEM SINCE THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE IT. THEY THOUGHT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS POSSIBLY A FAILED FUEL PUMP MODULE AND THE CHARCOAL CANISTER SATURATED AND CONTAMINATED WITH RAW FUEL AS A RESULT OF FAULTY FUEL PUMP MODULE.

JUST UNDER 20,000 MILES WENT TO FILL UP WITH GAS AND AS SOON AS I STARTED THE PUMP THE GAS CUTS OFF AS IF I HAD A FULL TANK. I TRIED TILTING THE NOZZLE, PULLING IT OUT A BIT, TRYING TO SLOWLY POUR, ETC AND NOTHING WORKED AT TWO SEPARATE STATIONS. CAN NOT GO WITH THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF I RISK OVER FUELING THE VEHICLE IF I TRY TO FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY.

FUEL TANK WILL ONLY TAKE SMALL AMOUNTS OF GAS AT A TIME. GAS BACKS UP IN FUEL NECK AND CAUSES THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF. FUEL GAUGE WILL INDICATE LOW AND TAKES ME OVER 10 MINUTES JUST TO PUT IN 10 GALLONS OF GAS. I HAVE TRIED HOLDING THE NOZZLE AT DIFFERENT ANGLES, DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND TRIED MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS WITH NO SUCCESS. GAS CONTINUES TO BACK UP IN THE FUEL NECK AND OCCASIONALLY PUKES UP GAS OUT OF THE FUEL NECK.

WAS TOLD THE GAS TANKS ARE BACK ORDERED FROM THE SUPPLIER WITH NO ETA AND SENT HOME WITH MY JEEP. HOPING THE GAS TANK COMES IN QUICKLY SINCE IT TAKE A LONG TIME TO FILL UP AND BECAUSE I CANNOT GO BY THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF I RISK OVER FUELING THE VEHICLE IF I TRY TO FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY.

WHEN I PUMP GAS INTO THE JEEP, IT CUTS OFF AFTER ONLY A VERY SMALL BIT OF GAS HAS BEEN PUMPED. THE FUEL GAUGE WILL SHOW THAT I AM LOW ON FUEL, I WILL STOP TO GET FUEL, WHEN I PUMP THE PUMP AUTO CUTS ME OFF AS IF THE TANK IS FULL. THERE IS ALSO A BACKSPLASH OF FUEL INSIDE THE HOSE. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED IN MARCH 2016 AND THE NOTES INDICATE THAT A FILLER TUBE WAS REPLACED. NOW IT IS DECEMBER 6, 2016 AND I AM HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. WHEN I READ THE JEEP OWNERS BOARDS, THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH MANY JEEP MODELS AND FOR MANY MODEL YEARS. IT WORRIES ME THAT I WILL BE STRANDED OUT ON THE ROADS AND NOT ABLE TO FILL MY FUEL TANK TO CARRY ON WITH MY TRIP. ALSO, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE GAS BACKSPLASH. WHILE I HAVE NOT YET SEEN THE GAS LEAVE THE TUBE, IT DOES BACK UP TO THE POINT I CAN SEE IT AND ONE THINKS IT WILL BACK OUT OF THE CAR ALTOGETHER. I JUST DON'T SEE HOW THIS CAN BE SAFE. SINCE IT HAPPENS WHEN I AM PUMPING GAS, THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS PARKED AND TURNED OFF WHEN I EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE. ON SOME OF THE BOARDS, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO BACK UP THE GAS PUMP AND TRY IT DIFFERENT ANGLES WITHIN THE TUBE. MAIN ISSUE IS WITH THE NINE SPEED TRANSMISSION ON OUR 2014 CHEROKEE. WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION FROM THE DAY W BOUGHT CAR. INITIALLY THERE WERE THE BUMPS, BANGS, KNOCKS AND HARD ERRATIC SHIFTING BOTH UP AND DOWN SHIFTING. NOW WITH 20,000+ MILES, AND MANY-MANY TRIPS TO DEALER WE ARE STILL HAVING TO DEAL WITH A SITUATION IN WHICH THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN "FLASHED" TO REMOVE SECOND GEAR ON DOWNSHIFT, THUS HANGING UP IN THIRD, AND CAUSING VEHICLE TO ALMOST STALL OUT WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A SLOW, NON-STOPPING SPEED. THIS HAS CREATED SOME GUT WRENCHING AS WELL SITUATIONS. THE ONLY WAY I HAVE FOUND TO OVERCOME THIS PROBLEM IS TO MANUALLY SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR - - - AND THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. MY WIFE GENERALLY USES THIS CAR AND DOES NOT REALLY UNDERSTAND THE "MANUAL SHIFTING PART". HOPEFULLY, SHE WON'T GET INJURED OR WORSE IN THIS THING!!! THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!!!!

I HAVE A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. 3 RECALLS (SHIFTING, WIPERS AND LIFT GATE) STILL WAITING ON THE PARTS FOR THE LIFT GATE. MASSIVE SHIFTING ISSUES. LOW SPEEDS TRANSMISSION SLAMS INTO THE LOWER GEAR AND HESITATES TO SHIFT IN A HIGHER GEAR. SITTING IN A LINE THE CAR WILL JUMP FORWARD EVEN WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE. DRIVING APPROX. 60 MPH ON INTERSTATE ROUNDED A CURVE, THE TRANSMISSION DID A WEIRD NOISE AND THE WHOLE CAR SHIFTED TO THE RIGHT, THE CAR SLAMMED INTO THE LOWER GEAR, ALMOST LOOSING CONTROL. IF YOU DO NOT COME TO A FULL STOP BEFORE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THERE IS A 2 TO 5 SECOND HESITATION BEFORE IT WILL DOWNSHIFT AND GO FORWARD. I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO SEVERAL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS. DRIVING DOWN A STREET AT APPROX. 25 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR ACCELERATED THEN DOWNSHIFTED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY CAUSING A WHIP LASH EFFECT. I HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT THE DEALER EVERY TIME I HAVE TAKEN FOR A OIL CHANGE AND THEY SAY JEEP KNOWS IT A PROBLEM BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THEY DO UPDATES ON THE SYSTEM BUT NOTHING HAS HELPED. THIS LAST TIME MADE IT WORSE. HOW LONG DOES JEEP HAVE TO "KNOW" A PROBLEM EXISTS BEFORE THEY FIX IT OR BUY THEM BACK? DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE? IT HAS BEEN VERY CLOSE SEVERAL TIMES. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY INCIDENCES ITS HARD TO PICK JUST ONE. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM SINCE THE FIRST "UPDATE" ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. I HAVE A SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD, I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO TRY TO TRADE THIS CAR OFF AS UPSIDE DOWN AS I AM...I NEED SOME HELP.

THE VEHICLE TELLS ME TO PUT THE SHIFTER IN "PARK" AND ONCE I DO AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, IT USUALLY TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, BUT IT WILL START. DUE TO THE ISSUE, VEHICLES STACK UP BEHIND ME, OTHERS ATTEMPT TO GO AROUND ME, AND WHEN THE VEHICLE DOES REGAIN POWER, IT CHUGS ALONG FOR ANOTHER 1/4 MILE BEFORE IT SEEMS TO BE RUNNING NORMALLY. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 26,000 MILES ON IT, AND I SHOULD NOT BE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. I AM BOUND TO GET HIT IN TRAFFIC WHEN MY VEHICLE LOSES SUDDEN POWER THE WAY THAT IT DOES. I LOSE POWER STEERING, AND AT THIS POINT, I AM UNSURE IF THE AIR-BAGS WOULD OPERATE DUE TO THE POWER LOSS.

I STARTED MY CAR WITH PUSH BUTTON IGNITION AND IT IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED TO 4000 RPM AND STAYED AT THAT SPEED FOR OVER 20 MINUTES. DURING THAT TIME, I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND COULD NOT SHIFT THE CAR. WHEN THE ENGINE FINALLY RETURNED TO A NORMAL IDLE SPEED, I COULD SHIFT THE CAR BUT COULD NOT ACCELERATE THE ENGINE. I WOULD PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING HAPPENED...THE ENGINE REMAINED RUNNING AT IDLE. I CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND AFTER IT SAT FOR AN HOUR OR SO , IT WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN ON TO THE FLATBED TRUCK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. AFTER 5 DAYS, THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AND SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON AND THERE WERE NO CODES INDICATING A PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE HAS HAD CONTINUOUS ISSUES OF JERKING/MISSING GEARS WHEN IT SHIFTS, WHEN I TOOK TO BE CHECKED I WAS TOLD IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE UNTIL THE ENGINE BLOWS UP. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF ANY SORT OF ISSUES WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW. I HAVE ALSO NOW HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE NOT STARTING FROM BEING STATIONARY, MULTIPLE TIMES IT HAS NOT STARTED AFTER BEING OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, IE 24 HOURS, BUT ALSO NUMEROUS TIMES MY VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY VEHICLE JUST SHUT OFF COMPLETELY, NO LIGHTS, NO GAS, NO RADIO ETC. I WAS LUCKILY ON THE SIDE OF A NON-BUSY ROAD AT THAT TIME ABOUT TO TURN ONTO A MAIN ROAD. I HAD BOTH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I WAS UNABLE TO START MY VEHICLE FROM THIS NOW STATIONARY POSITION FOR APPROX. 15 MINUTES I SAT IDLE IN THE ROAD WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. ANOTHER TIME MY VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A BUSY INTERSECTION MY CAR SHUT OFF AS I WAS TURNING AND I WAS ALMOST T-BONED MY VEHICLE STARTED UP AFTER TRYING A FEW TIMES AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD WAY. ONCE I WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT TO COLLECT MYSELF, MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AGAIN. IT TOOK APPROX. 4 TIMES TRYING TO START IT AGAIN. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND WILL BE TAKING IT BACK, TO BE CHECKED. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THEM THE FIRST TIME FOR IT TO BE CHECKED AS TO WHY IT SHUT OFF AND THEY COULD ONLY COME UP WITH THAT IT WAS LOW ON OIL, THEY DID AN OIL CHANGE AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE, WHICH CLEARLY THE OIL WASN'T THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT HAS ONLY BEEN ABOUT 400 MILES SINCE THE OIL CHANGE.

ORDERED CAR THROUGH BROWN MOTORS, LOCATED IN PETOSKEY MI. SALESMAN HAS BEEN CONDUCTING BUSINESS WITH THE FAMILY FOR MANY YEARS. CAR REPLACED VEHICLE AFFECTED IN A MAJOR FLOOD, AUG. 12, 2014. PICKED UP CAR FROM VEHICLE COURIER AT A LOCATION OFFSITE OF THE DEALERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY FEW MILES AND COMING TO A STOP DUE TO TRAFFIC, I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT END ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MADE A VERY NOTICEABLE WOBBLING MOTION BETWEEN 5 AND 20 MPH. VEHICLE HAS REPEATED THE WOBBLING SPORADICALLY AT THE SAME SPEED UPON ACCELERATION AND OCCASIONALLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP. TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND HAD TWO RECALLS PERFORMED. ONE FOR THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG AND ANOTHER FOR THE TRANSMISSION MODULE. THE TRANSMISSION MODULE ADJUSTMENT DID NOTHING TO AMEND THE FRONT END WOBBLE. ALSO, ON OCCASION WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE ENGINE REVS UP TO ALMOST THE RED LINE ON THE TACHOMETER BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS AND THE CAR ACTUALLY INCREASES IN SPEED. LUCKILY I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS ON A TWO LANE ROAD WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE. OTHER THAN THAT THE VEHICLE PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN ADEQUATE.

ON APRIL 1, 2015 WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP TO MERGING INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. WARNING CAME ON THE DASH TELLING ME " TRANSMISSION NEEDS SERVICE. NO POWER. PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD. PUT CAR IN PARK AND SHUT OFF ENGINE." THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON JULY 17, 2015 WHILE MY WIFE WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN FROM A COMPLETE STOP. THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AGAIN AND SHE LOST ALL POWER. SHE WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED BY A SEMI TRUCK WHO WAS BEHIND HER BUT MADE THE LEFT HAND TURN WITHOUT SLOWING DOWN. SHE HAD OUR 2 GRAND DAUGHTERS IN THE BACK SET AND WAS SCARED AND AFRAID FOR THEIR SAFETY. THIS 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE MODEL HAS HAD CONTINUED ISSUES WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND ALL JEEP DOES IS ISSUE SOFTWARE UPGRADES TO TRY TO ELIMINATE THE SHIFTING AND POOR ACCELERATION PROBLEMS THIS TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO HAVE. WITH THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGING AT LOWER SPEEDS SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IF NOT SERIOUSLY HURT. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL TO JEEP BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BY THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION THAT WAS BROUGHT TO MARKET BEFORE LONG TERM TEST COULD BE CONDUCTED ON IT TO MAKE SURE IT FUNCTIONS PROPERLY AND SAFELY.

MY WIFE WAS ON HER WAY TO WORK FOR THE LAST DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND GOT 2 BLOCKS FROM THE HOUSE BEFORE CALLING FOR HELP. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND LUCKILY SHE WAS ABLE TO GET OFF OF THE ROAD. IT WAS RAINY BOTH THE DAY BEFORE AND THAT MORNING ALSO. SHE SAID THERE WAS A MESSAGE THAT CAME UP SAYING SHIFT INTO PARK AND START THE CAR. SHE COULDN'T GET IT TO START AGAIN. I MET HER AND AFTER TRYING, GOT THE CAR GOING BUT NOTICED THAT I DIDN'T FEEL ANY RESPONSE OR HEAR ANY ENGINE REVVING WHEN PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL DOWN. IT ALSO SEEMED TO START FAIRLY ROUGH. SHE TOOK MY VEHICLE TO WORK. I CHECKED THE VEHICLE LATER AND IT STARTED OK. THE BATTERY VOLTAGE WAS THE NORMAL 12.6V AND 14.7V WHEN RUNNING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE. THE NEXT DAY AS THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T START. WE DECIDED TO WAIT UNTIL FRI MORNING WITH CHRISTMAS BEING THURS. THE VEHICLE DID START BEFORE THE FLATBED TOWED IT OFF TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE ALL DAY AND WAS ABOUT READY FOR ME TO PICK IT UP WHEN THEY NOTICED A LOSS IN PRESSURE AT THE FUEL PUMP AND DECIDED TO REPLACE IT. AFTER WE GOT THE VEHICLE BACK IT RAN OK FOR A FEW DAYS BUT THEN ON 1/3/2015 IT CUT OUT AGAIN ABOUT TWO BLOCKS FROM OUR HOUSE IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.. IT WAS AGAIN RAINY OUTSIDE. SHE AGAIN SAW THE SAME MESSAGE. I MET HER AND GOT IT STARTED AGAIN BUT ALSO AGAIN NOTICED NO REACTION TO STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE IN THE LEFT LANE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN I LOST MY FORWARD DRIVE GEAR, MY VEHICLE RAPIDLY SLOWED CAUSING VEHICLES BEHIND ME TO BREAK. MY DISPLAY WAS TELLING ME TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. MY GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR WAS FLASHING RAPIDLY BETWEEN DRIVE AND NATURAL. I TRIED TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE THEN THE SHOULDER AS OTHER VEHICLES AVOIDED ME. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND I HAD NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I GOT TO THE SHOULDER, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PROCEED DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER ALONG THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE SERVICE MANAGER RAN A QUICK CHECK AND SAID THE VEHICLE RECORDED OVER 20 FAULTS AT THE SAME TIME WHICH RANGED FROM DISENGAGING THE ANTI LOCK BREAKS TO DISABLING MY FORWARD DRIVE. HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE. HE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME THE SAME EVENING BECAUSE HE DID NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT, BUT SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE OF SOME TYPE. I CONTACTED JEEP CASE # 26113535. ALTHOUGH THEY ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE THEY ULTIMATELY CLOSED THE CASE BECAUSE ONCE THE DEALER INITIALLY CLEARED THE FAULTS THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I CONTACTED JEEP REFERENCE NUMBER 26160146 AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERN THAT THEY HAD CLOSED THE CASE CLAIMING THAT I HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD TALKED TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD THEM HE COULD NOT DO IT. JEEP WANTS ME TO WAIT UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I REMAINED ON RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD. 65 MILES LATER AND 15 MILES FROM NASHVILLE THE CAR JERKED AND I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE ONCE AGAIN. I PULLED OVER AND THE CAR RESTARTED. THIS SUBJECT AUTOMOBILE IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS THAT APPEAR TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THROTTLE CONTROL. THE PROBLEMS ARE DESCRIBED AS: 1.A SUBTLE CHATTER IN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN ACCELERATING SIMILAR TO CLUTCH CHATTER. THIS OCCURS IN LOWER GEARS.
