Car keeps shutting off and the acceleration is bad and transmission doesn’t work as well when i shift gears

This vehicle had multiple reprograms for transmission control module and still had same issue I have only had the vehicle 1 year and driven it 7k and I take. It to Jim Browne jeep dealership they said they transmission control module needs replacement the jeep when I brake jumps forward and speeds up its unpredictable and unsafe it also does not shift into gear it slips and I did a search and see. This has been a reoccurring issue .As well as my back up camera appears while I am driving and parked ,or screen just says jeep or goes blue unable to change dash supply control at all ,this vehicle is a lemon and we were not told of any of these issues

Body control module had a recall I had to get it fixed for the 2nd time and it’s giving us issues again,jeep has 46k miles and steering column control module is faulty and unconnect dash/radio/ac temp is also faulty,replaced blower motor and still having ac issues only mechanic has been Jim Browne dealer since we have had this jeep for a year .Jeep jerks when braking and does not brake it goes faster.when pressing gas to drive jeep goes slower.jeep dash of connect is blue screen and when reversing rear camera appears and does Not disappear not even when in drive or park must turn off jeep for camera to turnoff

My 2014 Jeep Cherokee began exhibiting repeated transmission and electrical malfunctions, particularly after startup or while idling. The most concerning issue is the appearance of a “Switch to Park” warning message, which occurs while the vehicle is already in Drive. When this happens, the transmission fails to engage properly, and I’m unable to shift into gear without cycling through Park multiple times. **seems to start happening after filling gas tank to full** This poses a major safety risk, especially in intersections or during stop-and-go traffic. The car has also experienced flashing odometer issues, rough idle, and erratic behavior when shifting — all of which point to a communication failure between core modules (BCM, TCM, PCM). A Chrysler-certified dealership performed a proxy alignment after acknowledging that the modules were “talking at the same time.” While no fault codes appeared on my OBD-II scanner, the dealer determined that the issue required a software-level alignment. However, I was told this is not part of any current recall or TSB, despite my symptoms being identical to other complaints already logged (e.g., NHTSA ID 11425007). This problem has occurred multiple times, both before and after dealership service. I was also informed there are no current recalls, but VIN-based systems like VinSeeker.com have suggested there may be open recall alerts related to transmission or software issues. This type of malfunction places the driver and passengers at risk of unexpected stalling, transmission disengagement, or inability to accelerate — especially dangerous in high-traffic areas. The issue appears to be known, systemic, and potentially tied to faulty transmission control software or defective module synchronization.

Vehicle randomly imitates being in neutral when it is actually in drive mode. It has lost power on long hill climbs wthout any downshifting as would be necessary. Vehicle will occasionally accelerate on its own without notice. This has happened both on the open road and setting at red lights. These are sometimes able to reset with the turning off and back on of the motor. These symptoms started very randomly, but have increased in events over time.

NHTSA Recall # 19V-447 I do believe it has to do with this recall that states the clutch is getting stuck in the transmission it does say that the recall has been completed but it is obviously doing it again

I started the vehicle and started to drive. The gear slid to park and stop in the middle of the road. An indicator said to check transmission. After pushing it off the road, the next day is driving again. All the check engine sign went off.

This vehicle has an extremely dangerous & ongoing issue related to the 9-speed transmission. Many times the vehicle does not know when to shift, sputtering/sluggish/jerky when accelerating from being stopped and coming to a stop. Frequently the vehicle engages itself into Neutral and/or Parking Brake while driving at both city and highway speeds. This is a very dangerous safety hazard as any motorist trailing behind me can not anticipate the sudden deceleration that ensues. The vehicle then either becomes "stuck" in a gear at too high an RPM at given speed, or engages the parking brake or seems to then be in Neutral. These instances regularly frequent, leaving me having to pull off side of roadway in sometimes dangerous position, perform handful of restart cycles in order to clear the condition and be back in a proper enough gear-state to get back on the road. The following cluster warning lights coincide with the issues: "Check Engine" - "Service Transmission" - "Service Parking Brake". After a handful of restart cycles, the lights clear from the cluster, but the issues remain. The vehicle is unable to come to a comfortable complete stop without a premature-sudden jerk stop. This throws anyone in the vehicle forward in their seats. Also, when ascending an incline or traversing a decline, the vehicle shifts off-sequence in such a way to violently jerk-kick, feeling as though something in the drivetrain will disconnect itself from the chassis. I have recently attempted to submit a recall request over the phone with Chrysler as these conditions are well documented past recalls that are "no longer open". Most notably Chrysler Recall Numbers V69, S55, and P31. They will not "waive" repair costs for me. I purchased the vehicle in March-April of 2024 with 87,000 miles. If previous owner & dealership did not address the recall when it was open, I feel it should not be my financial responsibility to correct, nor should I be absorbing the negative equity when traded in.

The service parking brake warning pops up on start up (P)!, along with the engine light and the traction control light. A warning that says service parking brake appears, around with a service transmission warning, and occasionally another message saying 4wd unavailable at the moment. Another message says restart car in park at zero speed, which the car is already in park & not moving. The car is not drivable when all of these are on. If I attempt to change gears, the gear light flashes & when the car shifts gears it is very loud. It is also hard to turn the wheel. The emergency park has also come on, in it's own, while driving. Almost killed me on the highway. Had also done it in my driveway, when starting to pull out. Also when the engine auto shifts, it makes like a whining noise. The engine sounds to go in overdrive whenever going down hills or up hills. Down is worse though. This has been doing this since I got the car in 2021. I expressed these issues to the place I bought the car from, just days after buying it, and they refused to fix anything even though it was under the 30 day warranty. They claimed no issues. I have proof of mentioning these issues, to the person who sold me the car through the dealership.

The contact owned a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated when she was reversing (R) out of the parking space, when she straightened the vehicle and shifted to drive (D) the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the vehicle crossed over several parking lot barriers and crashed into the front end of a parked vehicle. The contact stated that the acceleration happened so fast she was not able to depress the brake pedal and she did not notice how fast she was moving. It was unknown if any lights illuminated. The vehicle crashed into the front end of the parked vehicle. The contact's driver's side hood and grill were crushed, and her driver's side wheels well and fender were also crushed and damaged. The driver's side door was badly damaged and could not be opened. The contact was transported by ambulance to a hospital. She said she was treated for a bruise on her left knee, she had no other injuries. The parked vehicle was unoccupied. The police were on the scene but did not file a report. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot and the contact stated that her insurance company later called to advise her that the vehicle was a total loss. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

While driving 75 MPH and decelerating to 55 MPH, there was a thumping sound detected, and the vehicle started shuddering. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to accelerate, there was an abnormal pop and a clunking sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the bolts on the power transfer unit had been stripped. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to Manufacturer Communication Number: 21-014-23 (Power Train). The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

I honestly have no idea what system failed but I was doing 80 on the interstate and my car shifted into nuetral . All of the lights came on parking brake , brake and then my car would not drive any longer , luckily I was able to coast onto the shoulder but I literally could have been killed. I had just passed road construction that went from 4 lanes to 2 barracaded lanes. i waited 30 minutes and my car restarted like nothing . So I thought maybe it was a glitch until I was driving again and it did it again. I had to keep putting my car in park and then shifting it back to drive . It has not been inspected yet as i'm trying to get it to the dealership without it cutting off .

While driving, at any speed, for any length of time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) the car will act like it is shifting to neutral, no matter how fast I am traveling, it’s happened at 10 mph and up. It’s random, no rhyme or reason. It has been in 4 shops since November and does not code for errors. No one has found the issue. It is unsafe as it will redline the rpm, make the accelerator useless, and the only cure is to drop the car into neutral and abruptly stop. This can lead to a serious accident as there is not time to come to a safe stop or pull over safely on certain roads. It appears like this may be the same issue as a recall from 2016, maybe the fix didn’t fix the hazard? Some lights flash on the dash. Immediately when it happens, the traction control light comes on, and occasionally the “service transmission” warning will briefly appear. My transmission has been checked multiple times now and it appears to be in good condition. One jeep dealer thought it could “maybe” be a transfer case issue as it wasn’t going into gear. They did the W20 recall and it hasn’t had that issue since. The red lining and apparent neutral shift is still happening. We had another shop give us a 2nd opinion on the transfer case, it was functional and nothing was wrong with it. Two shops concluded the transmission and transfer case were fine. We have had three diagnostics on the car, one came back with a faulty oil sensor, which turned out to be unplugged, however we replaced it anyway to be safe. And one came back with voltage errors since it sat in their parking lot for a month, they replaced a battery cable and nothing else came up. But they were willing to replace the transfer case in a maybe, which prompted our second opinion. This is frustrating and I am terrified to drive it. The last time I did I nearly got hit by a semi truck when it redlined the rpm and I had to abruptly stop where there was no safe place to pull over. This happened 4x in 20 miles

Upon trying to enter a slightly inclined parking space in a parking garage, as I was lightly pressing on the accelerator, the car suddenly accelerated (tires screeching) and hit the concrete half wall. No time to even brake properly as it happened so fast. I had noticed a lack in acceleration that morning driving to my destination. Thankfully no injuries.

My vehicle drives about 30 miles before an alert will appear saying to service transmission. Along with the check engine light coming on. Vehicle will not accelerate and on hills will begin to roll backwards. When this happens the vehicle must be parked for at least 15 minutes and then on startup all codes will reset and return back to its normal operating. Took to dealership several times with error code P1DA9 and there was nothing that could be fixed.

Everytime i put m y car in reverese, back up, stop, and then put my car in Drive mode, the car will just stall out, The whole car turns off, Occasionaly, the car will not even shift and will be stuck in Reverse. When that happens, i am unable to turn the car and obisouly i am not able to restart the car. I then have to initatite the emergency brake, then wait sometimes up to an hour. Then try to shift the care to park to restart the car. Then once i restart the car it appears the car works just fine until next time i reverse.

The vehicle speed accelerates on its own when trying to come to a complete stop which almost caused me to rear end another car at a traffics light, the powertrain is completely off and creates an unsafe riding experience which impacts the steering and control of the vehicle, stalls randomly. There is rough shifting with the transmission, which jerks the car periodically. When driving at a speed above 60 entire vehicle shimmer and shakes uncontrollably, feels like the tires are getting ready to detach from the vehicle when driving at higher speeds and mostly when trying to come to a complete stop.

One day while we were driving, shifting became very slow and harsh. A few miles later, vehical slowed down enormously out of nowhere, and service brakes and transmission lights came on. No 4wd, no traction control available etc. Gigantic safety hazard, especially. With no prior indications or warnings.

Jeep put out a recall for the transmission and the recall was supposedly done the recall states that it would correct the issue of the car putting itself into neutral at any speed and making the driver return to park before he could re-enter a gear and redistribute power to the wheels. The recall should make the car go into a limp mode with limited power yet still producing power so it can exit from the roadway it's not doing that and this doesn't matter if it's 70 miles an hour when this happens it cuts the power to the wheels and your only option is to try to get out of traffic put the car in park and put it back in the gear. the recall by jeep was S 55 says it's been done but this car again is putting itself in the neutral it's been to three different Jeep dealers and finally I took it to an independent mechanic that finally figured out that this was probably the issue Jeep doesn't care I was almost hit by an 18-wheeler going through the mountains 2 weeks ago when the car took itself out of of gear and put itself into neutral as I was doing a pretty nasty switch from downhill to uphill in the Rocky Mountains with a semi coming down right behind me. I lost power on the uphill side on a three-lane highway on the innermost Lane with nowhere to go. I had no power I could not get back across traffic to get off the highway I ended up stopping traffic just put the car back in the park to restart hi feel like this is an incredible safety hazard and it clearly if they did the recall it has failed and it is doing exactly what the recall was to fix again thank you for your time and help

I was driving on the highway approximately 60mph, suddenly the service 4wd light appears. I took it to a Jeep dealership service center and diagnose and needed a 2 speed transfer case unit. It was replaced costing a little under $3000. The problem was not fixed and garage said it was misdiagnosed and still doesn’t know what’s wrong. Now the vehicle stalls while I’m driving and will not start immediately. I’m afraid this is going to cause an accident! Also it will have a sudden acceleration or a delayed acceleration while driving or when moving from a complete stop. This is very scary!

While driving the vehicle on September 22, 2021, the 4 wheel drive light flashed on then stopped, and then began to flash consistently. The vehicle began to shift out of gear on its own accord and lose speed without warning while driving on the interstate. The vehicle was taken directly to Landmark Jeep on September 22, 2021. The dealer diagnosed a Faulty PTU in the transfer case, due to a computer glitch. I was told that they could not fix the glitch without replacing the whole unit at a cost of $4,100. I was told that my jeep was not under your recall. Jeeps of the same year that have this fault are currently covered under recall NHTSA 20V343 and NHTSA 20E037. My VIN has the same exact safety issue and your recall should be expanded to include all affected vehicles. My vehicle is available for inspection.

ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS I HAVE BEEN IN THE PROCESS OF DRIVING THE CAR DOWN A CITY STREET WHEN IT HAS FOR NO KNOWN REASON SHUT OFF AND BECOME IMMEDIATELY INOPERABLE. THE FIRST INCIDENT OF THIS WAS IN JUNE 2020. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHERE THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY CHANGED THE OIL AND REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT GOT NO INDICATION FROM THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG. THEY SUGGESTED I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC THAT SPECIALIZES IN ELECTRONIC ISSUES. THEY FOUND AN ISSUE IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT THEY SAID MAY HAVE BEEN THE PROBLEM. I HAD IT REPAIRED AND THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED. THIS PAST SATURDAY (1/16/21) I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE DOWN A CITY STREET WHEN AGAIN, WITH NO WARNING, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC AGAIN AND AGAIN, THEY CAN FIND NOTHING DIAGNOSTICALLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION FOR THESE ISSUES BUT IT IS IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE AND IT IS AT THE MECHANICS. I CAN PROVIDE IF NEEDED.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN ON FEBRUARY 14, 2020 FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO HOPEFULLY FIX THE HESITATION I EXPERIENCE WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FOLLOWED BY A SLIGHT JOLT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE FLASHED THE SOFTWARE MULTIPLE TIMES, HOWEVER THE SAME ISSUE KEEPS OCCURRING. NOW I AM EXPERIENCING A "SERVICE SHIFTER" ERROR. THIS ERROR FLASHES ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHEN DRIVING AND ALL OF THE SHIFTER LIGHTS ILLUMINATE RED. THEN IT PROGRESSED TO I WENT TO CHANGE FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND THE ENGINE JUST REVED WHEN THE GAS WAS PRESSED (ACTING AS THOUGH IT WAS IN NEUTRAL) AND I YET AGAIN HAD TO PUT IT BACK INTO PARK AND TURN IT OFF TO GET IT TO GO INTO THE RIGHT GEAR. THEN IT PROGRESSED TO MY BATTERY NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND MY CAR NOT WANTING TO START UP RIGHT AWAY. AND IT GOT EVEN WORSE TO THE POINT MY CAR NOW SAYS I NEED SERVICE ON THE SHIFTER. HI I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUES. WHEN I DRIVE (20-25 MPH), THE CAR JOLTS AS IF SOMEONE HAS HIT ME FROM BEHIND ALMOST AS IF THE CAR IS SHIFTING OR DOWNSHIFTING GEARS. WHEN IM APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND GRADUALLY SLOWING DOWN WITHOUT MY FOOT ON EITHER THE GAS OR BRAKE, THE CAR JOLTS BACK AND FORTH. THIS ALSO OCCURS WHEN IM DRIVING UPHILL AND DOWNHILL AROUND 20 MPH. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR AS THIS IS A RISK THAT I WILL CRASH DUE TO THE SHIFTING. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN SEVERAL TIMES, THEY HAVE TOLD ME THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE IN WHICH DID NOT WORK, I EXPERIENCE EVERYDAY WHEN I AM DRIVING AND CONTINUE TO BE WORSE EVERYDAY.

I WAS IN THE TURNING LANE TO TURN INTO A GROCERY STORE AND WHEN I ACCELERATED TO TURN MY JEEP ACCELERATED THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, SERVICE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT,THERE WERE SEVERAL LIGHTS THAT CAME ON AND MY JEEP WAS STILL RUNNING BUT STOPPED ACCELERATING AS I WAS TURNING INTO THE STORE ON A BUSY 4 LANE ROAD AND I WAS PUSHING THE GAS BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE I COASTED INTO THE START OF THE PARKING LOT WHERE IT WAS NOW TELLING ME TO SHIFT MY CAR INTO PARK AS I DID THEN SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE AND TRIED TO FINISH PULLING INTO THE STORE PARKING LOT AND STILL NOTHING. SO I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK SHUT IT OFF SAT FOR A MIN TURNED IT BACK ON PLACED IT BACK IN DRIVE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON SO I DROVE IT TO THE NEAREST AUTO ZONE TO GET THE CODE CHECKED BECAUSE IT WAS A SUNDAY (TODAY 10/7/18) AND THE DEALER SHIP IS CLOSED. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A CODE AND ONCE THE JEEP WAS TURNED BACK ON ALL LIGHTS WERE OFF. I DROVE IT HOME AND PARKED IT AND I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEAL SHIP TOMORROW. 2 WEEKS AGO THURSDAY SEPT 27TH MY CAR STALLED AND SHUT OFF AT A STOP LIGHT WHILE TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL THE MORNING AFTER FILLING MY CAR WITH GAS. IT STARTED BACK UP IMMEDIATELY THEN SHOOK LIKE IT MAY DIE AGAIN THEN NOTHING. NO LIGHT INDICATORS AT ALL CAME ON DURING THAT INCIDENT SO I FIGURED IT COULD HAVE BEEN BAD GAS AND THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY OTHER TROUBLE TIL TODAY. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS TO BE TOLD THAT IT NEEDED AN UPDATE ON THE COMPUTER. IT IS VERY SCARY TO BE DRIVING A CAR AND NOT KNOW WHEN OR IF IT WILL SHUT OFF, AND THAT AN "UPDATE" WOULD CAUSE SUCH AN INCIDENT. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THIS CAR SINCE THE DAY WE PURCHASED IT. I STARTED IT AGAIN, AND AS I STARTED TO PULL OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY ONTO A VERY BUSY STREET, THE CAR HESITATED (WHAT SEEMED LIKE A COUPLE OF SECONDS) BEFORE IT WOULD CROSS THE 2 LANES OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC GOING 40-50 MPH. UM, YEAH. SCARY. A MILE OR SO DOWN THE ROAD, IT DECIDED TO SHUT DOWN AGAIN, THIS TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF A 3-LANE ROAD GOING ABOUT 30 MPH AND I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED! I RESTARTED AND PROCEEDED TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT - NO DIAGNOSIS THERE AFTER THEM KEEPING THE CAR FOR 4 DAYS. THEY SENT TO JEEP DEALER, WHERE IT STILL SITS TODAY, WAITING FOR IT TO ACT-UP AND GET A DIAGNOSIS SO IT CAN BE "FIXED". JEEP HAS HAD IT 15 DAYS AND STILL NO ANSWERS. I HAD THE CAR 20 DAYS, AND THE DEALER(S) HAVE HAD IT A TOTAL OF 18. THIS CAR IS A TRAGEDY WAITING TO HAPPEN....

SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME. SO YIELDING IN THIS VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I KNOW THIS HAPPENS SO I AM VERY CAUTOUS WHEN DRIVING AS THIS COULD CAUSE A MAJOR INCIDENT TO HAPPEN AND IT IS SCARY. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND ON AN INCLINE (I.E. SLOWING ENTERING A SLOPING DRIVEWAY) THE VEHICLE WILL PAUSE LIKE IT IS SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL, THEN ACCELERATE QUICKLY. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTING TO MOVE FROM A STOP (I.E. RED LIGHT) IT WILL START SLOWING, PAUSE (LIKE IT IS IN NEUTRAL - OR SKIPPING A GEAR) THEN SURGE FORWARD. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE DOWN A GRADE IN TOWN, AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES TO SLOW, AS SOON AS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED, THE VEHICLE WILL SPEED UP AND THE RPM'S WILL JUMP OVER 2500. THE VEHICLE WILL ALSO INCREASE RPM'S AND ACCELERATE WHEN SLOWING DOWN FROM A 35MPH ZONE TO A 25MPH ZONE. SOMETIMES WHILD DRIVING IN THE CITY THE ENGINE WILL INCREASE SPEED WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT. AFTER THE IDLE OR DEAD TRANSMISSION MOMENT THE VEHICLE WILL LURCH INTO GEAR. ALL OF THESE ISSUES OCCUR REGULARLY. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 27,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN DOING IT SINCE PURCHASE, AND HAS BECOME WORSE RECENTLY. THE VEHICLE DID HAVE ALL OF THE OTHER RECALLS PERFORMED EXCEPT THE LATEST NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 16V529 (I.E. REPROGRAMMING THE COMPUTER) THIS HAS MADE THE VEHICLE DRIVE EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE. REFLASHING THE COMPUTER WAS COMPLETED IN JULY 2016 IT DID NOT HELP. MY VEHICLE HAS HAD HARD SHIFTING EVER SINCE I PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW IN 2014. THERE'S A SLIGHT DELAY WHEN ACCELERATING WHICH MAKES IT VERY DANGEROUS TO TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. LUCKILY THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE SCHOOL ZONE SO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS APPROACHING AT A SLOW SPEED. IT TOOK ME FOUR ATTEMPTS TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN. THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES IN JANUARY BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT START, OR IF IT DID, ONCE I STARTED DRIVING THE ON DASH SCREEN WOULD SAY "SHIFT TO DRIVE" AND THEN THE "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" LIGHT WOULD COME ON. THE VEHICLE STOPPED WHILE IN MOTION SO I HAD TO PULL OVER AND WAIT BEFORE STARTING THE VEHICLE UP AGAIN. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY VEHICLE NEEDED A TRANSMISSION UPDATE AND A NEW BATTERY. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT A BAD BATTERY WILL COST THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE TO HAVE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. BUT AFTER THE UPDATE AND THE NEW BATTERY, THE HARD SHIFTING AND THE DELAY WHEN ACCELERATING REMAINED. MY VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH MY THREE KIDS IN THE CAR; THE HARD SHIFTING MAKES IT FEEL LIKE WE WILL GET WHIPLASH AND THE DELAYED ACCELERATION MAKES IT FEEL LIKE THE VEHICLE WILL CAN STOP AT ANYTIME WHILE IN MOTION. THREE TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR (10/26/15, 1/1/2016, 10/17/2016), MY CHEROKEE HAS LOST ALL SPEED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY GOING 60MPH. THE DASH LIGHTS START FLASHING INCLUDING CHECK ENGINE, PARK IMMEDIATELY TRACTION CONTROL, AND SERVICE TRANSMISSION. THE GAS PEDAL NO LONGER WORKS AND THE CAR LOSES ALL SPEED IN 4-5 SECONDS. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO CUT ACROSS ALL LANES OF TRAFFIC TO PARK ON THE SHOULDER. THE ENGINE NEVER TURNS OFF, BUT WHEN I TRY TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL, EVEN FLOORING IT, THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. CONTACTED A WRECKER SERVICE AND HAVING TO WAIT 1 1/2HRS ON THE SIDE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE, OUR VEHICLE WAS LIFTED AND TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP / THE WRECKER DRIVER WASN'T ABLE TO GET VEHICLE STARTED OR OUT OF GEAR UNTIL HE ACCESSED HELP VIA HIS PHONE, WHICH ALLOWED HIM TO MOVE GEAR BUT STILL DIDN'T CRANK / NEXT DAY, A REP FROM THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID THE VEHICLE STARTED UP AND THE ISSUE MENTIONED ABOVE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED??? A STRANGE REPORT WAS GIVEN THAT THERE SEEM TO BE GREASE FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE THAT WAS SEEN UNDER THE VEHICLE AND PERHAPS THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM??? WE PICKED THE VEHICLE UP AND MADE IT HOME (70 MI) / THIS IS EXTREMELY WORRISOME, NOT TO MENTION, OF COURSE IT COULD BE DEADLY! PLEASE HELP.

ON SUNDAY ON MAY 22, 2016, I DROVE MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE ON INTERSTATE 275 FROM THE MONTGOMERY ROAD EXIT TO THE FIVE-MILE ROAD EXIT. I WAS ALONE IN THE VEHICLE. I USED THE CRUISE CONTROL DURING THIS TRAVEL. I ORIGINALLY SET THE SPEED FOR 70 MILES PER HOUR. AT ONE POINT, I HAD TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE A CAR PULLED INTO THE LANE IN FRONT OF ME AND THE STEP DOWN OF FEATURE OF THE SPEED CONTROL WORKED AS EXPECTED. WHEN I EXITED FROM I-275 TO FIVE-MILE, I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT WAS UNABLE TO SLOW MY CAR. I CONTINUED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE CAR'S SPEED WAS NOT BEING REDUCED AND I REALIZED THAT I WOULD BE CROSSING INTO THE SIGNALIZED INTERSECTION WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO STOP. SHORTLY BEFORE ENTERING THE INTERSECTION, I HONKED THE HORN OF MY CAR. MY CAR CONTINUED ACROSS ALL FOUR LANES OF FIVE-MILE ROAD AND ONTO THE ON-RAMP FROM FIVE MILE TO INTERSTATE 275. THERE IT STOPPED. I DO NOT REMEMBER PUSHING THE BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO CANCEL THE CRUISE CONTROL . THE CAR DID NOT IMPACT OR TOUCH ANY OTHER VEHICLE OR PEDESTRIAN OR OTHER PROPERTY. IT CAME TO A STOP ON THE ONRAMP. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT THEN CAUSING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE AND THE BRAKES WORKED. I DROVE MY CAR VERY SLOWLY AND PARKED IT IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE SHOPPING CENTER AT THE INTERSECTION OF FIVE-MILE AND BEECHMONT AVENUE. FROM THERE, I HAD THE CAR TOWED FROM THE PARKING LOT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT, KINGS CHRYSLER/DODGE/JEEP, INC. AT KINGS AUTO MALL. A REPORT REFERENCED BY NTSA ID NO. 10861030 DESCRIBES A SIMILAR INCIDENT INVOLVING THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR. SO FAR, THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEM DISCERNABLE FROM THE COMPUTER CODES OR FAULT INDICATIONS.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY WHILE STATIONARY OR IN MOTION, THERE IS A DELAY BETWEEN HITTING THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE RESPONDING. UPON VEHICULAR RESPONSE THE ENGINE WILL REV EXTREEMLY HIGH, THEN RESUME REGULAR OPERATION. THIS HAS OCCURED ON EVERY ROAD IN EVERY CONDITION. THE AFORMENTIONED PROBLEM HAS PUT MY VEHICLE AT HIGH RISK OF COLLISION ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. AN EXAMPLE OF THIS INCLUDES PULLING OUT OF A PARKINGLOT ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY. WHEN THERE IS ENOUGH SPACE TO PULL OUT AND ACCELERATE QUICKLY, THE VEHICLE CRAWLS OUT OF THE LOT, A SECOND GOES BY,THEN THE VEHICLE REVS UP INTO THE 5500-6000RPM. PASSING A VEHICLE ON A ONE LANE HIGHWAY ALSO PRESENTS PROBLEMS. PULLING OUT INTO THE ONCOMING LANE, DEPRESSING THE PEDAL, AND NOT ACCELERATING RIGHT AWAY PUTS THE OPERATOR AT RISK FOR A HEAD ON COLLISION. DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD ME THERE IS NO FAULT AND IT OPERATES NORMALLY WHEN RUNNING THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS. THERE IS A LEGITIMATE PROBLEM, AND I HOPE IT CAN BE RECTIFIED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE DATE ENTERED IN THE "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN" SECTION IS THE ROUGH DATE THIS STARTED HAPPENING IN MY VEHICLE.

WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, AT 70 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HWY AT HIGHER ELEVATION, THE RPM'S WERE NEAR 4,000. I PUT ON THE BRAKES AS THE SPEED WAS GOING FASTER THAN I WANTED. PUTTING ON THE BRAKES DID NOT DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL, SO THE RPM'S STAYED NEAR 4,000. THE ONLY WAY TO SLOW DOWN WAS TO PRESS THE CANCEL BUTTON FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3-4 TIMES ON DIFFERENT TRIPS IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS THAT WERE ALL HIGH IN ELEVATION: 1500 FEET +. I HAVE TOLD THIS INFORMATION TO THE DEALER WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM, NEW, IN 2014. THIS JUST HAPPENED AGAIN 4-20-16 IN SOUTHERN OREGON. NORMALLY, PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL CANCELS THE CRUISE CONTROL.

2014 JEEP CHEROKEE BOUGHT IN DECEMBER 2014 500MILES. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE, CAR SHIFTING ERRATICALLY, LUNGING FORWARD AT STOPS, AND NOT ACCELERATING WHEN STEPPING ON GAS APPROPRIATELY. ON THE WAY TO WORK ONE DAY, CAR BOGGED DOWN IN TRAFFIC, TURNED OFF, WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON FOR OVER 30 MINUTES, TRYING TO START ALL LIGHTS AND CHECK ENGINE WARNINGS WERE GOING HAYWIRE. CAR FINALLY STARTED, GOT TO WORK, BUT CAR DID NOT START UP AGAIN AFTER MY SHIFT, HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALER. THEY DID UPDATES AND COMPUTER RESETS, PICKED UP VEHICLE, ONLY FOR VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN ON THE LOT, THEY TOOK IT BACK IN ,AND KEPT IT OVER NIGHT. THEY FELT THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT AGAIN ON THE WAY TO WORK, CAR STILL SHIFTING DANGEROUSLY, LUNGING FORWARD, AND HAS SHUT DOWN AGAIN. EVEN WHILE IN A DRIVE THRU, CAR LUNGED FORWARD ALMOST HITTING ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT OF ME. CAR TAKEN BACK INTO DEALER, AGAIN THEY COMPLETED A TON OF RECALLS, AND UPDATES, SOME REPEATED FORM THE LAST FEW TIMES, I TOOK THE CAR IN. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 5-6 TIMES NOW, WITH 2 CLAIMS ESCALATED TO JEEP/CHRYSLER. I AM PREGNANT, AND WITH THE CAR SHUTTING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC IS EXTREMELY, LUNGING FORWARD, SHIFTING ERRATICALLY, AND BOGGING DOWN WHILE ON HIGHWAY HAS ONLY BROUGHT FEAR TO MY SAFETY, THE SAFETY OF MY PREGNANCY, AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS DRIVING AROUND ME, AS I HOPE THIS CAN BE FIXED BEFORE SOMETHING HORRIBLE HAPPENS. IF YOU PRESS THE GAS PEDAL DOWN THERE IS A DELAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE GOES. I HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES FROM THE GET GO 3K MILES AND NOW HAVE 8.5K ON IT WITH NO FIXES OR END IN SIGHT. FCA HAS HAD LITTLE TO NO COMMUNICATION WITH ME UP TO THIS POINT AND AM STILL WAITING ON A CALL BACK FROM THEM.

THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS IT CAN OCCUR WHILE YOUR ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE FREEWAY OR WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE. ALSO A DANGER OF LOOSING POWER AT AN INCONVENIENT MOMENT AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING A CRASH FROM THE REAR. SECOND - WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE VEHICLE GAVE 5-6 BEEPS AND INFORMATION PANEL SAID, "RESTART VEHICLE AND SERVICE TRANSMISSION." THE CAR STOPPED MOVING FORWARD WHEN PRESSING THE GAS. SHIFTING INTO PARK (TO RESTART THE VEHICLE) THE CAR VIBRATED AND JUMPED. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT WAS ON, MESSAGE SAYS SERVICE TRANSMISSION, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON, AND THE D(RIVE) LIGHT WAS BLINKING. THIRD - ALL OF THE ABOVE AGAIN, EXCEPT EVERYONE ON THE EXPRESSWAY WAS MOVING AT 65-70 MILES PER HOUR, AND MY CAR STOPPED IN THE THIRD LANE. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING AND IT IS GETTING VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND OTHER DRIVERS.

SINCE THEN THE JEEP SHIFTS VERY HARD MAKING THE SUV LURCH FORWARD AT TIMES AND OTHER TIMES IT WILL SHIFT INTO A LOWER GEAR WHEN SPEEDS OVER 50 MPH AND MAKE THE SUV JERK TO A SLOWER SPEED. WHEN CRUISING DOWN A HILL WITHOUT PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR, SUV WILL SHIFT GEARS MANY DIFFERENT TIMES CAUSING THE JEEP TO LURCH FORWARD QUICKLY WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN TRYING TO PASS A CAR ON THE HWY, IT TAKES JEEP A FEW SECONDS TO "CATCH" THE GEAR AND MAKE IT GO FASTER. WHEN DRIVING AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY LOOSE SPEED AND WILL DROP INTO LOW GEAR. A SERVICE NOTE COMES ON THE SCREEN STATING, "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" AND "SERVICE PARK BRAKE." I AM UNABLE TO HAVE ANY CONTROL OF THE SPEED OF THE CAR. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN THE CAR OFF SEVERAL TIMES, UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION ALLOWS TO SWITCH SPEEDS/GEARS. AT FIRST, WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WILL JUST DROP OUT AND NOT ALLOW ME TO MOVE FORWARD. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM IS ACTIVATING WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT ANY OTHER VEHICLES OR ROAD OBSTRUCTIONS IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES OVER THE LAST MONTH. ONE OF THE TIMES THIS HAPPENED MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH AND THERE WAS A VEHICLE FOLLOWING BEHIND HER AND THEY IN TURN HAD TO SLAM THEIR BRAKES ON TO AVOID HITTING HER. OF COURSE THIS ENRAGED THE DRIVER BEHIND HER THINKING THAT SHE WAS INTENTIONALLY SLAMMING ON HER BRAKES. ANOTHER TIME MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM SLAMMED THE BRAKES ON HARD ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE ABS SYSTEM. THANK GOD THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS OR SEMI'S BEHIND HER OR SLICK ROADS AS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS IF NOT FATAL ACCIDENT. THE TWO OTHER TIMES WERE THE SAME, THE CRASH AVOIDANCE SYSTEM ACTIVATING FOR NO REASON. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICK UP ON 11-13-2015. UPON ARRIVAL AT THE DEALER I SPECIFICALLY ASKED IF THE SAFETY CONCERNS WITH THE CRASH AVOIDANCE SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN CORRECTED. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HADN'T BEEN LOOKED AT BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ON THE LIST OF REPAIRS, WHEN ACTUALLY THIS IS WHY THE APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE WAS SET. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO GO AHEAD AND TAKE THE VEHICLE AND BRING IT BACK ON 11-23-2015. I REFUSED TAKING THE VEHICLE AS IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR MY WIFE TO DRIVE. AFTER ARGUING, THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE. WE WERE NOTIFIED AGAIN ON 11-19-2015 THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICK UP, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SYMPTOMS WITH THE CRASH AVOIDANCE SYSTEM. ON 11-20-2015 I WENT TO THE DEALER AND AGAIN REFUSED THE PICK UP OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED AND IS SAFE FOR MY WIFE TO OPERATE. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH JEEP MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THIS ORDEAL AND HAVE AN OPEN CASE ON THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME.

I NARROWLY MANAGED TO GET TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. ON FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2015, EXECUTIVE JEEP REASSURED ME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND SAFE TO DRIVE. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT IT BEING SAFE; THE SERVICE ADVISOR RE-ASSURED ME THAT IT WAS. ON MONDAY, AUGUST 3, 2015, JUST 7 DAYS AFTER THE VEHICLE FAILED ME, I WAS EN ROUTE TO WORK ON 91-N I WAS TRAVELING IN THE MIDDLE LANE SURROUNDED BY MULTIPLE VEHICLES. AGAIN, THE DASHBOARD LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY OTHER VEHICLES WHILE TRYING TO MAKE MY WAY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR'S SPEED DROPPED DRAMATICALLY WITHOUT WARNING, EVEN WHEN I APPLIED THE GAS. FOR THE SECOND TIME IN ONE WEEK, THE VEHICLE FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER AND I NARROWLY MANAGED TO GET TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. CHRYSLER INSISTS THAT THIS VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS IS THE THIRD JEEP CHEROKEE IN CONNECTICUT THAT I AM PERSONALLY AWARE OF THAT HAS THE SAME DEFECT; THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS WHEN I WAS MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY AND THE CAR LOCKED. AS I WAS TRYING TO GET INTO A PARKING LOT IN 5 O'CLOCK TRAFFIC, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN THEN LOCKED UP AGAIN. I ENDED UP HAVING TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION OWNING THE CAR FOR LESS THAN A MONTH. SINCE THEN THE CAR HAS HAD RANDOM MOMENTS OF ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN AND WHEN I HAVE REPORTED IT TO JEEP ARLINGTON THEY WOULD SAY NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE FIXED. I TRIED TO UPGRADE OUT OF THE SHOTTY CHEROKEE TO A GRAND CHEROKEE FOR SAFETY REASONS BUT THE DEALER WOULD NOT FORGIVE THE NEGATIVE EQUITY IN THE CAR AS WE'VE HAD IT FOR A YEAR. HE INSISTED WE PUT MORE MONEY DOWN AND HAVE A CAR PAYMENT OF $600-700 DOLLARS. WE REFUSED. WE FEEL JEEP DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY BUT ONLY THE NUMBER OF CARS THEY SELL EACH MONTH WHICH IS A SAME. THANK GOD WE DIDN'T HAVE A CAR ACCIDENT AS THEY MY FAMILY WOULD BE PLANNING A FUNERAL. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE IN THE LEFT LANE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN I LOST MY FORWARD DRIVE GEAR, MY VEHICLE RAPIDLY SLOWED CAUSING VEHICLES BEHIND ME TO BREAK. MY DISPLAY WAS TELLING ME TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. MY GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR WAS FLASHING RAPIDLY BETWEEN DRIVE AND NATURAL. I TRIED TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE THEN THE SHOULDER AS OTHER VEHICLES AVOIDED ME. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND I HAD NO ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I GOT TO THE SHOULDER, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PROCEED DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER ALONG THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE SERVICE MANAGER RAN A QUICK CHECK AND SAID THE VEHICLE RECORDED OVER 20 FAULTS AT THE SAME TIME WHICH RANGED FROM DISENGAGING THE ANTI LOCK BREAKS TO DISABLING MY FORWARD DRIVE. HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN BEFORE. HE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME THE SAME EVENING BECAUSE HE DID NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT, BUT SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE OF SOME TYPE. ALTHOUGH THEY ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE THEY ULTIMATELY CLOSED THE CASE BECAUSE ONCE THE DEALER INITIALLY CLEARED THE FAULTS THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I CONTACTED JEEP REFERENCE NUMBER 26160146 AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERN THAT THEY HAD CLOSED THE CASE CLAIMING THAT I HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD TALKED TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD THEM HE COULD NOT DO IT. JEEP WANTS ME TO WAIT UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. SHE LOST A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF POWER WHILE TRAVELING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHERE THE SPEED POSTED IS 65MPH. WHEN THIS HAPPENED SHE PULLED OFF TO SHOULDER AND TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS WITH HER IPHONE TO KEEP FOR OUR RECORDS AND TO WHAT HER DASH WAS DISPLAYING. SHE STOPPED WHILE ON THE SHOULDER AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. ON A CONSECUTIVE VISIT, THEY ADDRESSED PART OF THE PROBLEM WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT THEY SAID WAS KNOWN TO CORRECT THE PARTICULAR PROBLEM. THE ISSUE DOES NOT HAPPEN AS FREQUENTLY BUT DOES STILL OCCUR. IT IS INTERMITTENT AND SINCE YOU'RE NOT EXPECTING IT, CAN PUT YOU IN PANIC MODE WHILE DRIVING AND SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID A FEELING OF BEING OUT OF CONTROL AND COLLIDING INTO THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF YOU. THE CAR ALSO ROLLS BACK ON OCCASION. BOTH ISSUES ARE CONSIDERED UNSAFE AND HAPHAZARD. I WILL NOT PUT YOUNG CHILDREN IN THIS CAR DUE TO FEAR OF THEIR SAFETY. CAR IS BEING TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR AND CLEARLY THERE IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION OF THIS CAR. I AM VERY CONCERNED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE, EVEN AFTER THE CAR HAS ANY NECESSARY REPAIRS. INCIDENT OCCURRED ON FREEWAY WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH. WAS TRAVELING IN THE #1 LANE AND ENCOUNTERED A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE. CHANGED TO THE #2 AND ACCELERATED, BUT GOT NO RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FREEWAY AT THIS PORTION IS A DOWNGRADE SO VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST DOWNHILL. I ACCELERATED AGAIN AND VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. A "SERVICE TRANSMISSION SOON" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON DASHBOARD. I EXITED THE FREEWAY AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OFFRAMP. I PRESSED THE GAS, WHILE IN DRIVE, AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE. PLACED IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. PLACED VEHICLE IN PARK AND SHUT IT DOWN AND RESTARTED VEHICLE AND IT DID STRUGGLE TO MOVE FORWARD SEVERAL FEET. PLACED VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND IT DID NOT RESPOND. REPEATED SEQUENCE OF TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON AND THE VEHICLE RESPONDED. PLACED VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND IT DID NOT RESPOND. REPEATED SEQUENCE AND VEHICLE FINALLY MOVED FORWARD. WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY DRIVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. AFTER HALF A DAY DEALERSHIP STATED "CHRYSLER" TOLD THEM TO WIGGLE THE CABLES AND SEE IF ANY OF THEM ARE LOOSE. AFTER THEY DETERMINED THE CABLES WERE NOT LOOSE THEY INSTALLED THE NEW TRANSMISSION UPDATES AND CLEARED THE ERROR CODES. SERVICE TECH STATED THE PROBLEM SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. SO FAR I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY OTHER FAILURE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *TR

1. BELL FOR KEY IN IGNITION COMES ON, BUT KEY IS OUT. 2. PRINT OUT SAYS, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. 3. ACTIVE HANDLING ICON STAYS LIT. (CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN INTO DEALER FOR THIS. COMPUTER WAS RE-FLASHED.) 4. CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT COME ON. 5. I HAVE STILL NOT RECEIVED MY MULRONEY STICKER FOR MY VEHICLE. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED THE JEEP WOULD GO OUT OF CONTROL, WHEN IT WAS BEING TOWED BEHIND A MOTOR HOME. AFTER TOWING IT A FEW HUNDRED MILES, THE JEEP STARTED ROCKING BACK AND FORTH IN A VIOLENT MOTION WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH OF THE JEEP. IT REMAINED ON, AFTER THE MOTOR HOME WAS DISCONNECTED. THE DEALER CLEARED THE CODE. HOWEVER, WHEN THE CONSUMER HOOKED UP THE WIRING FOR THE TOW SYSTEM, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. UPDATED 06/15/15. *JB UPDATED 07/15/15. *JB

I DRIVE A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH STANDARD CRUISE CONTROL WHICH THEY REFER TO AS ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL OR ESC. THE CAR MANUAL STATES THAT ONCE THE CRUISING SPEED IS SET, IT CAN BE REDUCED IN 1 MPH INCREMENTS BY PRESSING THE "SET -" BUTTON. IT DOESN'T INDICATE THAT PRESSING THAT BUTTON COULD RESULT IN MORE RAPID DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE OR THAT IT MIGHT ACTUALLY CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO APPLY THE BRAKES. ON OTHER VEHICLES I'VE OWNED, PRESSING AND HOLDING THE "SET -" BUTTON SIMPLY CAUSE THE ENGINE TO BACK DOWN AND THE VEHICLE ESSENTIALLY COASTS UNTIL THE BUTTON IS RELEASED AT A NEW, LOWER SET CRUISING SPEED. HOWEVER, ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS WHILE USING ESC I HAVE HELD THE "SET -" DOWN HOPING TO DECREASE SPEED BY A FEW MILES AN HOUR. WHAT HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THOSE INSTANCES IS THAT AFTER A SECOND OR SO, THE VEHICLE BEGINS RAPIDLY DECELERATING AND IT APPEARS THE BRAKES ARE ACTIVATED BY THE SYSTEM. AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THAT COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS OUTCOME IF THE DRIVER DOESN'T KNOW IT'S COMING AND THERE IS OTHER TRAFFIC FOLLOWING BEHIND. I'M FORTUNATE THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC FOLLOWING ME ON THE OCCASIONS ON WHICH THIS OCCURRED. I WENT BACK AND REREAD THE MANUAL ON THE USE OF ESC AND SAW NO REFERENCE TO RAPID DECELERATION OR BRAKE APPLICATIONS IN THIS SCENARIO. I THEN E-MAILED CHRYSLER ABOUT IT, AND FINALLY RECEIVED A RESPONSE TELLING ME THAT WHEN USING THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ("ACC") SYSTEM, HLDING DOWN THE "SET -" BUTTON WILL RESULT IN DECELERATION IN INCREMENTS OF 5 MPH, THOUGH IT DOESN'T REFER TO APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES BY THE SYSTEM. HOWEVER, I DON'T USE THE ACC SYSTEM WHICH IS ACTIVATED BY A SEPARATE BUTTON. EITHER I HAVE A MALFUNCTION OF THE ESC SYSTEM OR CHRYSLER HAS FAILED TO DISCLOSE A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF SAFETY INFORMATION AS TO THE FUNCTION OF THE ESC FEATURE IN THE MANUAL, AND I'M LUCKY IT DIDN'T GET ME INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR

THE CAR GAVE A MESSAGE THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED SERVICE. IT THEN DROVE A FEW MORE MILES AND THEN STOPPED ALLOWING ME TO ACCELERATE. IT WAS LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT REV. IT DID LET ME DRIVE AGAIN AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE CAR BUT THE PATTERN CONTINUED UNTIL WE DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALER. WE NEEDED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES. I PURCHASED A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE LTD. IN 10/2013 FOR MY DAUGHTER TO LEARN TO DRIVE (WITH LEARNER'S PERMIT) AND TO DRIVE WHEN SHE GETS HER LICENSE SOON. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR IN MARCH ON I-10 IN HEAVY TRAFFIC TIME WHEN SUV MADE A WHINING NOISE, GEARS STALLED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, RPM'S DROPPED. SUV CONTINUED TO DO THIS AT A VARIETY OF SPEEDS WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 7000 MILES, SO I BROUGHT SUV TO SELLING DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY GUESSED AND UPDATED SOFTWARE, THEN CLOSED THE SERVICE ORDER. AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP, SUV PERFORMED 5 INTERMITTENT AND SIMILAR EPISODES ON THE WAY TO DESTINATION THAT WAS ABOUT 7 MILES AWAY. I RETURNED SUV TO THE SAME SERVICE DEPARTMENT THE NEXT DAY AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO CHRYLSER AND JEEP CUSTOMER CARE (JCC). JCC CONTACTED THE DEALER. A DECISION WAS MADE TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION TO BE SENT TO JEEP ENGINEERS TO DISSECT AND DETERMINE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. A NEW TRANSMISSION EXACT TO THE OLD, ONLY WITH 'UPDATES' WAS PLACED IN THE SUV. SINCE THESE SERIES OF EVENTS HAVE OCCURRED, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THE JEEP CHEROKEE HAD 4 HOLDS ON RELEASING THE SUV DUE TO THE ISSUES WITH 9 GEAR FIAT TRANSMISSION. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT OURS WAS THE 2ND SUCH CASE SEEN IN THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ULTIMATELY, JCC OFFERED MORE WARRANTY AND THE ABILITY TO SKIP ONE PAYMENT OF WHICH I DID NOT ACCEPT. THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE OFFER WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR THE ENGINEERS TO TELL ME THAT THE SUV IS SAFE FOR THEIR OWN NEW TEEN DRIVER OR TO TAKE THE SUV BACK, TO NO AVAIL. JCC SENT THE CASE TO THE 'CASE ANALYST' TEAM, BUT ULTIMATELY CLOSED THE CASE AS RESOLVED. I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT MY DAUGHTER DRIVING THE SUV ONCE SHE OBTAINS HER LICENSE. I ALSO HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT HER YOUNGER BROTHERS RIDING IN AN SUV THAT MAY PERFORM UNSAFELY AND UNPREDICTABLY. *JS
