Electric parking brake light keeps coming on also the shifters light comes on a lot as well
2015 Jeep Cherokees is not functioning and I'm getting flashing parking brake light. There is water corrosion, which can cause the brake to activate unexpectedly. I did not have any spills in the cargo area of my vehicle. I believe it is from water coming into the wheel well. I took the car to the dealership and they claimed it would cost me $5000 to replace not only the Parking Brake module, but the whole connection to the body harness. I currently do not have a parking brake. I am aware there is a known Service Report for this issue.
This vehicle is not safe to drive because it doesn't brake, it takes several seconds to reduce speed after hitting the brakes, and at high speeds it takes longer, which can put anyone's life at risk. The engine is damaged, it releases smoke and is leaking oil, and it heats up when you're moving on the freeway, which can be dangerous. The car loses power while moving. They told me that it was in perfect condition, which they lied to me, putting the lives of many people at risk. The second day after I took it out of the dealership, I realized that the engine was damaged. It started to smoke and lose power. On the road, I almost had an accident because the car didn't brake well. They sold it to me like that. They didn't want to give me the carfax and it hasn't been inspected. They told me that it was in perfect condition, which they lied to me, putting the lives of many people at risk. The second day after I took it out of the dealership, I realized that the engine was damaged. It started to smoke and lose power. On the road, I almost had an accident because the car didn't brake well. They sold it to me like that. They didn't want to give me the carfax I took it to a workshop that they had and the car continued to have the same problems. Water intrusion, causing damage to my electric parking brake module. Parking brake and engaged while vehicle was in motion.
The emergency parking brake failed and became stuck in place, making my vehicle unable to get out of park to drive. I am able to shift gears but the EPB is stuck. There is also instances where the EPB has turned on by itself in the middle of driving. I saw there was research ongoing with this issue in 2014-2021 Jeep Cherokees (PE 22-009) which is related to a previous recall (15v-393). I hope this issue is able to progress to a recall as this is severely dangerous and inconvenient. Thankfully this has only happened while I was driving not near other cars but in the event this should happen on the highway for instance it could be catastrophic.
Ptu went out they replaced it it was still not working and they said oh well now ptu is still out and it rolls in park won’t shift when pulling out and is very scary to have my kids in this death trap
My parking brake turned on by itself when I started my 2015 Jeep Cherokee and would not turn off. The parking brake light also came on. It is available for inspection. My safety and others safety was put at risk because my car could have stopped running while I was driving. I will be taking it to my local Jeep dealership to have it looked at. I have had a mechanic look at it but was told he could not fix it.
I was driving down the highway and my car just shut off and came to a complete stop in the middle of the road. It happened twice. Both times the emergency brake light came on but at no time was the emergency brake engaged by me. I was lucky that I wasn’t on a busy road and the care behind me had time to react or it could have been fatal. After trying to restart the car it took some tinkering with the ebrake and after a slight hesitation of the engine, it started. That happened twice in one day and once on another. This is a huge issue that can cause loss of life.
While driving with my children, a message to service the electronic parking break appeared. The parking break engaged and I am no longer able to move my vehicle in order to have it serviced.
Driving through [XXX] in Belfair, WA my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the 2.4L started running rough and was jerking. As I entered the turn lane the Service Park Brake light flashed, my Jeep jerked to a stop and the emergency brake was turned on while I was still in Drive. I could not get the Emergency Brake to release even after putting my vehicle into park and pressing the brake pedal. I turned the Jeep off then back on but the Emergency Brake was still stuck on. I had to shut the Jeep off and get out of my vehicle on a very busy Highway to get my tools from the spare tire cargo. Upon retrieving my tools I noticed several inches of standing water in the spare tire area. I then popped my hood, disconnected the battery then reconnected the battery. This allowed the Emergency Brake to release so I could drive to the nearest parking lot. I was along an extremely busy State Highway for almost 10 minutes and nearly got hit by other vehicles including school busses and big rigs! My Jeep was towed to my home in Shelton, WA where further inspection showed water had been leaking from the lift gate. I removed all panels and found almost 4 inches of water where my spare sits, mold, water and moisture on and around the ECU and the Automatic Braking System and rust. The seals are good but when it rains the water finds its way in! These pictures are from after when I used my shop vac to get the water out. I found there is a recall for the exact same thing but only for Power Lift Gates. I do not have a Power Lift Gate but this is a major safety issue and should be recalled whether the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk has a power lift gate or manual lift gate! A quick internet search shows so many other Jeep Owners without the Power Lift Gate have the same issue and complaints! Experiencing description included in NHTSA Action Number: PE22009 The electronic parking brake is troublesome and often times has trouble engaging/disengaging.
There has been two separate occasions this has occurred. The last occurrence resulted in a car wreck . The first occurrence I was driving out of a public parking lot and had feet on breaks and engine rived up and keep going into traffic but car saw me coming and switched lines. This second occurrence I was parking the car in a parking space with my feet on the breaks and the car rived up even with me hitting the breaks jumped the curb and i and the car ended up through the window of a store. No one was hurt but car damaged and in the shop for repairs. Police came to the seen and deemed it an accident. My 2015 Jeep Cherokee started having strange electrical issues. Sometimes the automatic lift gate would not open or close. Sometimes the parking brake would engage and not release. At times the parking brake would engage and I would not be able to drive the car. It would engage within seconds of starting to drive the car, leaving the car lurching forward or unable to move (in the middle of the street). I noticed there seemed to be water leaking into the car around the back right near the power lift gate. I managed to disengage the emergency brake to drive the car to the mechanic. The mechanic could not get the brake released and had to tow the car to an electrical specialist. I paid around $2000 for a new harness for the park break as well as other issues related to the water damage corroding the electrical equipment at the power lift gate. 16 months later and I am having the same issue again. I brought the Jeep to the dealer and they told me the brakes are corroded in addition to the recall on the power lift gate. I believe this (corroded brakes) may also be from the lift gate water leak issue. The recall repair will take months I am told. In the meantime I cannot open the lift gate and so cannot have a diagnostic done on the water leak at the lift gate that continues to enter into the electrical system at the back of the car (liftgate area), likely doing more damage again to the other electrical components such as brake release and brakes. I called the recall line at Chrysler to ask for an expedited recall service and they declined, saying the vehicle is safe to drive. Please there must be a recall on the water leaks causing all of these electrical safety issues.
Jeep has never been in accident properly and regularly maintained when driving on freeway all of the sudden out of nowhere service airbag system and service park brake pop up I was fearful for my life when getting home not knowing if airbags will work heaven forbid I get in car accident or car may roll over onto street because park brake is not working I went to dealership and asked what's wrong with viechole did manufacturer put in faulty airbags or installed broken brake they refused to tell me what the issue is unless I pay them over $500 just to know what's wrong with car I told them car was never in accident properly maintenanced the problem has to be with manufacturer they said unless I pay $500 they will not tell me what's wrong with the jeep please investigate jeep for failed car parts.
Vehicle alerts to ‘service parking brake’ and engages parking parking brake without warning. Shifter has gotten stuck in N, unable to shift out for some time. Shifting in secondary incident resulted in a clunking when shifted to Drive as well as vehicle deceleration after driving for one minute. Safety is affected for all as the vehicle coasts to a stop in traffic. Towing to repair shop required twice, where no issue was found by service technicians either time.
The Electronic Parking Brake has malfunctioned because water has leaked into the liftgate. Jeep is replacing the power liftgate module because if water leaks into the car, this could cause a fire if the water reaches the module. Water is in my car and has destroyed the e-brake system causing it to go on and off unexpectedly and now I can't drive the car. According to an ODI Resume, "On May 11, 2016, the manufacturer released a Technical Service Bulleting (ODI #10191415, FCA #08-060-16) that instructs dealers on replacing the EPB module and inspecting the electrical connector for corrosion if a customer describes having the EPB not releasing." Jeep is willing to replace the Power Liftgate Module - Recall 49A - but not the EPB for the exact same reason. The dealer agrees with my assessment, but without Chrysler willing to cover the cost, they are not able to replace the EPB system for free and want to charge me $1000. Several lights are going off on the dashboard - Service Park Brake, the Brake light and now the Stop/Start function is disabled.

Parking brake engaged and had to be manually overridden to disengage. Upon further research on the internet and taking apart the rear I found a water leak from the power liftgate and the electronic power brake module to be corroded.

Last July of 2022, my first issue was an electrical notice that caused the airbag and seatbelt sensor in the vehicle to continuously go off, which took several months to get fixed through the manufacturer of my Jeep Cherokee 2015. As of 2023, I have received two recall notices, and neither of which have been resolved since April of 2023. Since those notices, my check engine light has gone off and is getting repaired this week, there's been a leak inside the vehicle of a liquid spilling into the passenger side floor mat, and also the brakes have deteriorated quickly -- they were last repaired at 77,000 miles and are again experiencing issues at 99,000 miles. There is a specific manufacturer in my area (Salt Lake Valley Chrystler Dodge Jeep RAM on State Street in Salt Lake City, UT) that has been borderline negligent and straight up rude on multiple occasions.
My 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited has a parking brake issue. My parking brake will not disengage, the car will not move forward or back, the warning lights are lit up on the dashboard. My Jeep is inoperable due to this issue. This has happened before in parking lots, etc but I was always able to pull over and disengage. That is NOT the case this time as had the car towed to the Jeep Dealership and diagnosed as the parking Brake Module is faulty, the part is back oprdered for months and will cost over $1700 to repair.
My 2015 Jeep haslocked up on me twice now. The power brake system comes on automatic and I cannot accelerate. The first time it happened it about threw me into the windshield. This second time it jerked me forward. It has been in the dealership once to fix the problem. Now it has done it again. The warning lights come on the dash as power brake system malfunction, check engine soon, do not engage and put vehicle in park and several other warnings.
Anti skid dash light is on. Won’t turn off. Car is not drivable. Locked up and swerving from side to side
My alternator went out and was replaced and while in doing they said my gear shifter broke and when they tried to replace it that the new one broke too. My parking brake and check engine light are now on and they are not sure why.
Parking brake locked and would not release. Issue occurred while driving - luckily at low speed (apx 5mph) while in parking lot. Could not move vehicle since parking brake would not release. Impeded traffic in aisle. I am concerned that this could have happened while driving on surface streets or highway. If so, this would have created a very dangerous situation since the vehicle immediately came to an uncontrolled stop and was immobilized. Could not locate any sort of manual override for releasing brake. Had to have vehicle towed. There were no previous issues with parking brake. Cycled power/start several time to try and reset. No changes. Disconnected battery for 5 minutes to try and reset. No changes. Warning lights/messages included: service parking brake, 4wd system unavailable, start/stop unavailable, brake warning light, abs light, and possibly others. The vehicle is currently at dealership waiting repair (estimated to begin service week of 5/22/23, Nyle Maxwell CDJR, Taylor, TX)

After stopping the vehicle and placing it in parking, the parking brake engaged itself and would not release, rendering the vehicle undrivable. Water fills up in the spare tire component which corroded the emergency brake box. I took it to the local Sunoco to fix they contacted Chrysler and was told to give the car back to me as is I should have it fixed by the dealership. My car is currently at a dealership and they’re telling me I have to pay $1600 for the repair. But if you Google this is a common problem with this vehicle.
The emergency brake engages on its own. In the past i have been able to release it after it "auto engages", sometimes taking more than 1 attempt. I stopped at a gas station last week. When I started my car to leave, the emergency brake auto engaged itself and would not release. Error message on screen read "service park brake". I called the local service department of chrystler/dodge/jeep dealership. Followed their directions to release the brake. However it would not release still. The incident left me and 2 children stranded for 2 hours. I had my vehicled towed to the dealership. Currently still awaiting resolution.
My brakes have totally locked up on my vehicle. The vehicle is undrivable at this point. I just have it sitting in the garage for now.
In June 2022, my electronic parking brake engaged and would not unlock. On the dash, the Parking Brake light, the Brake light and the Stop/Start light were all illuminated. I was unable to drive the vehicle. I had to have AAA tow it to the dealer to find out what was wrong with it. The dealer I took it to had to install a new Parking brake module and rewire 32 pins on the new connector. They informed me that there was corrosion on the unit and did not find any water in the compartment area. My vehicle is a 2015 Jeep Cherokee and at the time of the repair it only had 40,649 miles on it. I had to pay right at $1,200.00 for this repair and I feel I should be reimbursed from the manufacturer since the vehicle was only 7 years old and has low miles. This will happen again if they don't come up with a fix for it.
Went for service and they stated my EPB is not engaging properly, they could tell water was in the spare tire well at some point....I bought this car in 2019 & was never told of this possible problem This incident obviously happened before the date of this complaint, but I was not aware until service technician told me on 2/21/2023 "Power going to Park Brake Module---No power out" Thank you for your time
Electric Parking Brake on my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited V6 has malfunction. Water has leaked into the car, creating standing water that affected the EPB module and is now inoperable. I cannot release the parking brake and the car cannot be driven. This happened while I drove to my mail box. I was luckily close to home but this is a serious safety risk. The brake cannot be released to even have it towed, even after several attempts of different methods to release. I cannot get the part to fix the problem as it is on back order with no ETA.
Electric Park Brake (EPB) light came on while parked. Parking brake actuator would not contract. Vehicle now can’t be driven as the parking brake is engaged. Found the part from a dealership and when I went to replace it, the parking brake actuator was flooded with what looked like brake fluid. New $130+ OEM part was installed and fixed the issue. Approximately 6 months later, the same issue occurred with the new OEM part. I have seen people say this issue has happened while driving. I’ve heard of dozens of complaints of this part already. When will this become a recall? It seems to me that it should have already been addressed since this vehicle has been around nearly 9 years.
I was making a left turn onto the southbound roadway which which consists of six Lanes. I was getting up to approximately 35 mph when the parking symbol light came on and the screen was showing service parking brake and service transmission. I was still in Drive when the car started coasting and when I stepped on the gas, all it did was revved. I had to Coast into the left turning lane and came to a stop as I tried to put it in park I could hear a whirring noise coming from under the dash as if the parking break button was pressed. I could not get it out of Drive and I tried putting it in neutral then back to drive then into neutral but could not get the car to move. Finally was able to get it into park and I shut the car off. After about 10 minutes I started the car up and the dash showed nothing I put it into drive and it kicked into gear and as I accelerated it was feeling like I couldn't get out of second. Then the brake light came on the p in a circle with an exclamation mark came on, ABS light came on, skid light came on., check engine light came on, and the screen flashing back and forth between service parking brake and service transmission. I was able to make it 2 miles to work at very slow speed and put it in park and turned it off. There was more rollback than normal when put in park so I put a chuck under the wheel so it wouldn't roll. Approximately an hour later I took it up to Tire Plus to see what was wrong. Upon picking it up they told me that I had to take to a dealer. The following codes are; u0418, u04828, u1412, p1720, u0420, uc003, u0415. When I went to pick the car up some hours later it started right up like normal and halfway home which is approximately 3miles, everything lit up again this time the engine sounded rough and again I had to Coast to the right side of the road shut it off wait 10 minutes, start it up and I was able to get it home, where it's been since. I'm very concerned for my safety. From Reading, alot of others are as well.
Vehicle Parking brake randomly engages. Warning lights and "Service Parking Brake" Brings vehicle to stop, can not get brake to disengage. Repair garage inspected vehicle. Water intrusion in parking brake module. Confirmed myself of water in module area. Referred to a Jeep Dealership- along with TSB#08-060.16. Towed to dealer. Dealership is avoiding repair. Told battery was no good, causing issue. Battery was less than year old. Battery brought back for warranty. Battery functioning at 98%- no issue. Return to dealership- still told battery could be issue, could not produce tech readout off a battery test. Refuse to look at root cause. Will no acknowledge TSB provided.
Parking brake was randomly engaging. Currently engaged will not release. Mechanic ID issue. WATER INTRUSION in parking break module. Claims it’s a known issue but no recalls have been issued. Parts may be delayed 2 months.
I experienced an Emergency Parking Brake malfunction while car was moving. Car suddenly had the message "Service Parking Brake" while driving on the highway. Check engine, barking brake, and traction control lights all came on. Pulled off the highway to a shopping center and when putting the car in park, car was stuck in the middle of the road in park unable to change gears. Car was able to be disengaged only by overriding the gear in order to be moved to a safe location, but remained otherwise in Park with the same "Service Parking Brake" message. Dealer has mentioned that the brake module was corroded or shorted and the entire system needed to be replaced along with complete disassembly of shifting mechanism.
UNKNOWN I had to jump my vehicle due to battery dying out. Once jumped, I received a warning that my electrical emergency park brake malfunctioned. I had trouble shifting gears if I could get them to shift at all. I could hear and feel grinding beneath the jeep. Looking deeper into this it was discovered that there is a vehicle investigation (pending potential recall) on water leaking inside the vehicle to be causing corrosion leading to the E Break module to fail in my specific model. I eventually got the vehicle towed to the dealership. Their service department claimed I may have spilled drinks into my module. I do not buy drinks or carry any in my vehicle cupholders (which are placed by design right behind the gear shift module). Nothing was spilled, the damage is consistent with the common issue pending investigation #PE22009. I am currently awaiting a complete transmission replacement due to the defect.
I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It has been in the shop many times due to poor manufacturing and recalls. Prior to me purchasing the vehicle in May 2020, it was involved with a recall for a water leak and powerlift gate short due to water damage. It has leaked water into the hatch/ trunk area since I purchased it. I have spoken with 2 dealerships about the issue. The most recent was November 1, 2022 when it was left with Rockwall Chrysler. My issue is that the Electronic Parking Brake Module was damaged to due heavy rain and the continued leak. On October 30, 2022, we were trying to leave in the cherokee and the Service Brake warning light was on as well as service shifter. The vehicle was stuck due to a malfunctioning parking brake. After multiple attempts, the brake disengaged and I continued to work. October 31, when I started the vehicle the following warning/ service lights were on and remains on: Service Brake Light (2 different lights) ACC/FCW not available / service Auto start/ stop unavailable/service Airbag warning light (went off 11/3/22) 4WD Unavailable/service On my drive home from work, the electronic parking brake engaged while I was turning across traffic and I almost was hit by a large delivery truck. Once I managed to get the vehicle to drive, it happened again on the highway service road and I was very close to being rear ended by an 18 wheeler that was driving behind me. The dealership did no repairs due to the $575.00 charge I cannot pay to diagnose and do a leak test. I explained this was involved with a recall and they basically told me it was fixed in with Canada or Ohio and I needed to return to that dealer (I live in TX). Which is not possible because the vehicle is sitting in my drive way and will not move due to the brake being stuck on. I picked the unrepaired vehicle up on 11/3/22 and was advised its best to get rid of as soon as possible. The problem is that I owe roughly $13,000 on the jeep. I cant afford this and a rental
this vehicle shows all recalls have been completed. however, every time it rains, the hatch compartment fills with water. 10/30/2022, my electronic parking brake light came on and the vehicle was stuck in park. Once we got the car home, I opened the hatch and removed the spare tire; there was standing water in the area from rain. This morning I was leaving for work an d the following lights came on; 1) Service 4WD 2) Service electronic Parking Brake 3) Service Airbags 4) Service Front Collision system 5) Service auto start stop 6) Adaptive Cruise Control not available 7) cruise/ fcw unab=vailable- service required This vehicle has been a complete nightmare. I did record the event as we used a shop vac to remove the water. the Service 4 wd light comes on and goes off randomly daily; the PTU was "flashed" but the problem continued. I have contacted the dealership only to be told all recalls are complete and I must pay for the additional repairs. I have contacted Jeep and have had zero resolutions.
Upon placing vehicle into park, the parking brake independently engaged and would not release. Car was not able to move. Brake calipers were locked into position. Manufacturer TSB: 08-060-16 Based on repair invoices, it appears the electronic parking brake module is damaged by water leaking into the compartment. In case of inadvertent activation, the EPB causes a stalling condition, bringing the subject vehicles to a stop. TSB 10191415 followed in May 2016, instructing dealers on replacing the subject module and inspecting the electrical connector for corrosion. The technical service bulletin states “the electronic parking brake module is located in the back left side of the cargo area interior, near the spare tire.” The first model year of the KL-generation Cherokee has accumulated 2,187 complaints on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. 11 of those complaints are filed under parking brake issues
Was driving home for lunch and stopped at traffic light. Parking brake self-engaged and would not release. I could not move the car in either direction. Repeated attempted to get parking brake to release by pushing/pulling on switch. Finally turned off car (sitting in moving traffic) and when I restarted the brake released. Was able to get car home and parked. Called my regular mechanic and got it in yesterday, but again brake wouldn't release (it had not been set) without turning car off and on. When my repair shop took the components apart, it revealed that water had leaked down into the computer system that controls the parking brakes (had various flashing lights on dash -- odometer/stop/start signal, etc.) and damaged the circuitry. The repair shop called to explain this problem and noted that NHTSA had begun and investigation into this problem in July and had about 80 cases under investigation at that time -- apparently a body-weld issue causing leak into that component. Prior to this locking up, a service parking brake light had come on intermittently for a couple of days. My wife and I were both at risk and just fortunate this didn't lock up while on the interstate which we drive regularly. Have called local Jeep dealer where we bought it and they claim they have heard nothing about this and the earliest we can get in is 10/18. Our mechanic has temporarily disabled the parking brake (both electronically and mechanically) so that the vehicle is drivable, but said he wouldn't advise driving on it very long this way, due to the other warning components that are now compromised.
wheels locked up, unable to stop car. wheels were not turning during accelerator and car would not come to a stop when braking as tires were just sliding and skidding on road. could not change gears
The parking brake module failed. It caused the vehicle to violently be slammed into a stop by the electronic parking brakes engaging on their own. This primarily happened anytime the vehicle was put into park, or came to a complete stop. The parking brake is then unable to be released. When revving the engine in drive or reverse the parking brake stays engaged. Randomly did it only work properly and disengage, leading to the car being inoperable due to the possibility of being stuck in traffic or on a major roadway should the car get stuck with the parking brake engaged. This could also lead to a stall of the engine as well as that dangerous situation. The safety of myself and others are at risk with this issue. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer to be a failure to the parking brake module. The part is on backorder with a lead time or several weeks, and over 150 plus parts on backorder when I attempted to find and order this part. This is a common issue for the Jeep Cherokee. There were no warning lights prior to the failure, only a message for "parking brake service" with warning lights after the parking brake was unable to be disengaged.
One day, out of the blue, a ton of warning lights came on after making a simple right turn onto another road. The "Service Transmission", "Service Park Brake" and "Service Antilock Brake System" message comes on and the ABS warning light, the ((P))! parking warning light, the engine light, the traction control warning light, - There was also a lag of sorts just before the lights came on. The steering wheel felt very tight. I managed to pull over and wait a while and slowwwwly drove home. After taking it to my mechanic who explained their read just wont be accurate - it needs to go to Jeep, said their result had something to do with the coil? Something behind the steering wheel? I had recently (3 months ago) had new brake pads on all four tires and rotors cut or whatever. A shop I've gone to a million times with no issues. There are hundreds of thousands of customers in the comment sections and Jeep forums complaining of the same issue and Jeep dealership mechanics telling them they've never seen the issue before. Jeep needs to be FULLY investigated. For a lot. This OBVIOUSLY could cause a serious accident/death/cost me a [XXX] ton of money for which there's seemingly no fix according to other Jeep owners. About an hour into the morning commute, the vehicle was at a stop light when a warning bell chimed. The message on the dash read the emergency/park brake had automatically engaged and the light on the park brake indicated the brake was on. I turned it off. Prior to this incident, the braking system including the emergency/park brake functioned as expected. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealership yet.
Parking brake activated while driving. I stalled. Was able to restart the vehicle and everything seems normal but my check engine light is on.
Electronic parking break activated while driving. When attempting to turn left on a two way street electronic parking break activated by itself and locked the rear wheels. Car currently parked as I am unable to move it. EPS system will not release. Parking break still engaged.
Ever since I have owned the vehicle the brakes have shuddered causing the brake pedal and steering wheel to vibrate. I have replace the pads and rotors 3 times and have the same issue. It has been checked by 2 Jeep dealerships and by Tooles Garage in San Carlos CA. NO ONE CAN FIND THE ISSUE. I have looked online and have found far too many confirmed reports from people on forums and such having to same issue. All of them have simply replaced the brakes and rotors and service their brakes regularly in order to get rid of the scraping and shuddering experience. Which should not happen for approximately 40-50k miles and people are changing them in less than 15K. I am not the only person and I feel like there is something wrong with the braking system that so many people are complaining online for years about the exact same issue I have been dealing with. My wife uses the cat to drive our children to school and it does not feel safe to her while driving it. However we cannot purchase or trade in the car yet so we are at an impass. Please help.
I’m following up from my previous complaint #11446148. They replaced body control module, radio frequency hub, ignition switch, key fob to ignition switch to resolve a no crank, no power issue. While at the dealership, we were told the Powertrain Control module needed a reprogram per recall W20. Now the dealership is saying the traction and ABS lights are on and the ABS module won’t recognize the VIN number. This is a 2015 jeep. There is an obvious manufacturers flaw in their design configuration for all of these computers modules to fail. The pcm reprogram recall seems to have created addition electronic errors that now are estimated at over 3000$ in repairs. Please investigate these issues. My car has been in the shop since October 19, 2021 which is almost 4 months. These repairs are extreme for a 6 year old vehicle.
Vehicle shows parking brake on when I enter. It has never done this before. Drove down street to stop and put car in park, parking park comes on automatically? This started today Sept. 7, 2021. On interstate going 70 mph vehicle bucked when I accelerated. On same trip, not in cruise control vehicle RPM's went up and down by itself. Proceeded to slow lane to stop. Once stopped I put car in park (no parking brake showed up) pushed on gas pedal to watch RPM's and transmission took its time coming back down. Left side of road hitting gas got to 45mph and vehicle bucked. Made load noise and bucked. The "bucking started on my 1st trip out of town, all loaded up for a work event. Going 65 mph down to exit ramp, accelerate and it bucked. Kids looked at me and said, "Mom this better not have a transmission problem like the old car." (GMC Envoy 4x4 bought new trans & then engine needed to be replaced, but went car shopping) Took vehicle back to CarMax and they said the didn't notice a thing.They said you know the wheels make a lot of noise because they are big. Also, told me not to accelerate so fast! What? I bought this vehicle on Mother's Day 2019. Went to Maryland to purchase it. Found out later that Maryland doesn't do inspections every year. Too it to my local CarMax and they gave it new brakes. I have an appointment with a Jeep certified dealer mechanics department on Sept. 24, 2021. I will follow up with another note. I hope the transmission gets replaced because the problems I mentioned are on a forum that Jeep experts monitor and comment on as I see their icon/symbol. Thank you
When I go to put the the vehicle in park and reverse it wants to shift really hard, not really a shift but more of a jerk. It doesn’t happen every time but it does 50 percent of the time. There was this one time where i went to go put it in reverse and it wanted to rev more then usual. When it MAINLY shifts hard is when I first turn it on and start moving a couple feet it wants to fall on its face. We haven’t had any incidents in it yet but I wanted to see if I could get anything done before any. Me and my boyfriend travel a lot and when we are in traffic it has fallen on its face. There is a gas cap light that keeps coming on and I have replaced my gas cap 2 times.
Manual brakes light turn on, brake pedal gets hard, car wouldn’t stop.
No previous issues with the vehicle until this incident. That morning on my way to work my check engine light came on. I called my husband and he said he would check it out that evening. Got to work fine. When I went to go home from work my car was acting strange. The ac or blower and the radio wouldn’t come on at all until after about 15 minutes of driving. About 5 minutes later my brakes wouldn’t work at all trying to stop at a light and I ended up crashing into a car that was completely stopped while going about 35mph. My front collision detection didn’t go off until I was about an inch away from the vehicle and the automatic emergency brake didn’t engage either and normally if a car is turning slowly 30 ft ahead it will slam on the brakes. Nothing worked and I am terrified to continue driving this vehicle.
THE JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PARKING BRAKE. I HAVE A 2015 AND SAYS NO RECALL BUT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. WHILE OPERATING THIS VEHICLE ON A ROADWAY THE VEHICLE IS MAKING SCRAPING NOISE AS IF IT NEEDED BRAKE PADS, AND HAS HARDLY ANY BRAKING ABILITIES AND DOES NOT WAIVER IN INTENSITY OR BRAKING ABLITY EVEN WITH EXTRA PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES PEDDLE. THEY HAD TO REPLACE BOTH ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS . I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE PRODUCT AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED . THEY CLAIM AS OF TODAY (AFTER JEEP WAS DROPPED AT DEALER BY TOW TRUCK), THE RECALL FIX HAS BEEN DONE - BUT SAY THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT IS STILL ON AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED/PAID FOR BY THE CUSTOMER. ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE MODULE CONNECTOR WATER INTRUSION WHICH CAUSES THE MODULE TO SHORT OUT AND THE WIRING HARNESS CORROSION. THIS CAUSES THE PARKING BREAK TO ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE WITHOUT WARNING. THIS ALSO PROMPTS AN ERROR THAT THE 4WD IS UNAVAILABLE. CONFIRMED WITH PATRIOT JEEP IN OAKLAND MD THAT THE 4WD WILL NOT WORK ON 11/18/2019. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR TO MOVE FROM MY DRIVEWAY BY PUTTING MY SEAT BELT ON AND HOLDING THE BREAK, AND THEN PRESSING THE GAS TO RELEASE THE PARKING BREAK. MOPAR TOLD ME THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. I WAS ALSO ABLE TO FIND A BULLETIN PUBLISHED BY MOPAR ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IT APPEARS THERE IS WATER GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE CAUSING CORROSION WHICH COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT IF SOMEONES BRAKE WOULD ENGAGE, OR 4WD WOULD FAIL IN INCLEMENT WEATHER.

WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SCHOOL, THE "SERVICE PARKING BRAKE" LIGHT CAME UP ON THE DASH. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND TURNED IT BACK ON. SINCE THIS HAPPENED THE LEVER TO REMOVE THE PARKING BREAK WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. EVERY TIME I PRESSED THE BUTTON, IT SAID SERVICE PARKING BRAKE. I ALSO READ ONLINE THAT A TSB WAS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE PARKING BRAKE MODULE IN THE REAR, AS WELL AS THE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SINCE IT WAS CORRODED. HOW WOULD SOMETHING THAT IS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, HIDDEN BEHIND THE SIDE PANELS GET CORRODED AND HAVE THE OWNER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE PLACED IN A LOCATION WHERE IT CANNOT GET WET OR CORRODED.

THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION, CHECK ENGINE AND EMERGENCY BRAKE WERE ALL FLASHING. I ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED AND WAS IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF ON THE FREEWAY TO "REBOOT" IT AS IT WAS STUCK IN A PARKED POSITION BUT NOT POWERED OFF. 9/24 - EN ROUTE TO GET THE CAR SERVICED, I WAS ON THE FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC, IT LURCHES AND STOPPED AGAIN, THIS TIME CAUSING ME TO REAR-END THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME.

AFTER A WEEK OF THEM HAVING THE CAR THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED. AFTER 10 HRS OF HAVING BACK THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK BACK TO SERVICE & THE MGR SAID CAR IS UNSAFE AND WOULD REQUEST A NEW VEHICLE FOR ME THAT WOULD TAKE 6 WKS TO GET. HE ALSO TOLD ME THE DEALERSHIP THEY GOT MY VEHICLE FROM HAD ISSUES W/CAR AND NEVER SAID ANYTHING. PROBLEM COULD OF BEEN 100 TIMES WORSE BECAUSE THERE WERE ALSO BICYCLISTS ON ROAD AS WELL AS TRACTOR TRAILER TRAVELING BEHIND. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP VIA TOW TRUCK. TOW TRUCK DRIVER EVEN STATED THERE IS SOMETHING SEVERELY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. WHEN DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE OFF FLAT BED HE PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND THE VEHICLE WENT FORWARD INSTEAD OF REVERSE PLUS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CAME ON BY ITSELF. THEY DID STATE THAT THE CAR HAS A FLASH UPDATE (AKA RECALL), WHICH WAS NOT COMMUNICATED TO ME WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. SO FINALLY TODAY, THURSDAY, MAY 7TH, (3 DAYS LATER) CHRYSLER DECIDED THE CAR NEEDED A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION. WASN'T THE TRANSMISSION BRAND NEW ANYWAY????? THIS PURCHASE HAS BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTING AND I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THESE VEHICLES. I REALLY HOPE THIS NEW TRANSMISSION FIXES THE PROBLEM. BACKED OUT OF BUSINESS DRIVEWAY ONTO BUSY STREET AND PLACED VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, AS I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE APPLIED ITSELF AND VEHICLE STAYED IN PLACE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS UNTIL BRAKE RELEASED ITSELF. I HAD JUST DESCENDED IN CENTER CITY HEAVILY CONGESTED TRAFFIC FROM THE ENTRANCE PASS. ABOUT A 2000 FOOT DECENT. I WAS ENTERING A TRAFFIC CIRCLE AND SLOWED FOR TRAFFIC, PUSHING DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT KICKED BACK AT ME WITH SUBSTANTIAL FORCE. THE PEDAL THE WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. I HAD NO BRAKES, AND DROVE INTO THE CURB TO STOP THE CAR. THE JEEP HAS NO EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM ONLY AN ELECTRONIC PARK BRAKE. I FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM 2 MONTHS BEFORE ( AT 1200 MILES) WHEN THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED AND SHUT DOWN ALL POWER, AND LEFT ME WITH NO STEERING OR BRAKES ON A NARROW MOUNTAIN ROAD, AND ALMOST GO ME KILLED.( DIAGNOSED BY REPAIRING DEALER AS A "DEFECTIVELY MANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION" AND REPLACED IT). I HAD JEEP TOWED TO NEAREST DEALER. HE COULD DO NOTHING FOR THAT DAY. CALLED,NEXT DAY, HE SAID THE PROBLEM WAS A "DEFECTIVE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER", MAYBE HAVE THE PART AND REPAIR DONE IN A WEEK. SECOND TIME HOTEL AND CAB HOME ( NOW AT $800) ON ME. BIG TOO BAD, NOTHING WE CAN DO FROM CHRYSLER. THE REPAIRING DEALER RETURNED THE JEEP ON 27TH. SELLING DEALER CALLED TO SAY ALL WAS PERFECT.PICKED UP AND DROVE 50 MILES THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO HOWL LIKE A BANCHEE. DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS A " DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION MOUNT". SAME DEALER JUST REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION 2 MONTHS AGO. STILL WAITING FOR CAR TO BE REPAIRED AND RETURNED. THE 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE IS A DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING ENGINEERED VEHICLE. CHRYSLER CAN NOT HAVE ANY FORM OF QUALITY CONTROL, IF 3 MAJOR COMPONENTS FAIL WITHIN 2600 MILES AS "DEFECTIVELY MANUFACTURED". THE ZF 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION IS A DISASTER AND CAUSING PROBLEMS EVERYWHERE. THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION AND DEALER NETWORK IS CORRUPT, NON TRUSTWORTHY, UNTRUTHFULLY, AND NONCAREING FROM THE TOP DOWN. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND OR BUY ANYTHING FROM CHRYSLER AGAIN AND WOULD GIVE MOST ANYTHING TO GET MY MONEY BACK. *TR

STARTED THE CAR AND SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON CHECK TRANSMISSION, SERVICE PARKING BRAKE CALLED THE DEALER & WERE TOLD IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AS LONG AS THE LIGHTS WERE NOT BLINKING.LIGHTS WERE NOT BLINKING DROVE TOWARD THE CLOSEST DEALER (WE WERE ON VACATION) WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THE CAR MAY RESET ITSELF AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING LIGHTS WENT OUT #2INCIDENT - JAN 7, 2015 STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND CHECK TRANSMISSION, SERVICE PARKING BRAKE CAME ON AGAIN, RPM 'S WERE HIGH BUT THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE SLOWLY CALLED THE DEALER AND DROVE IT IN. TWO DAYS LATER WILL DRIVING THE CAR WARNING LIGHTS COME ON THE CAR CUTS OUT ON ME IT HAS POWER BUT THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON THE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON THE CAR WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. AFTER AN HOUR I STARTED THE CAR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON SO I PROCEEDED HOME. AT A LIGHT THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD ( I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE) THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON THE CAR STILL HAD IT WARNING LIGHTS ON THE RPM'S WERE HIGH AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. I WAS TOLD THERE WERE PROGRAM ERRORS AND THE CAR WAS FIXED. MARCH 17 THE CAR STARTS MAKING A HUMMING SOUND. MARCH 18 ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER I STOPPED AT IN INTERSECTION STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR JUST CUT OUT ON ME. I WAS STRANDED IN AN INTERSECTION. CALLED THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME TO TURN IT OFF THEN ON, WHICH I DID THE CAR MOVED SLIGHTLY RPM'S WERE HIGH, CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING PROPERLY. THE CAR VIOLENTLY JERKED WHEN I ENGAGED INTO PARK OR DRIVE. .I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR IS AT THE DEALER AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR 8 DAYS. I FEEL THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I AM FRIGHTENED FOR MY SAFETY AND MY FAMILY.UNDER OHIO LAW IT HAS MET THE STANDARDS OF THE LEMON LAW. *TR

I HAVE TAKEN THE JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE FLASHED AND UPDATED MY TRANSMISSION BUT THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED BUT IT WAS NOT. IT IS ACTING UP MORE THAN IT WAS BEFORE. IT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THIS CAR ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE AROUND A CURVE BECAUSE IT WILL SPEED UP BY ITSELF. *TR
