UNKNOWN: Not had problems since I got it. 66000 miles on it and now it’s losing electrical power at random. I’ll be driving normally, but my dash will go black, all lights go out and the engine will go into neutral. When I let off the throttle and coast, it will come back to life and go back to normal.
So I was driving to work one morning and I pulled into the parking lot, put my car in park and a few mins after I get a message/ alert on my dash saying “service shifter”…. Indicating It’s the p1c86-1D, an electrical issue with the shifter display circuit. I took it to the dealership I bought it from (Della Chevrolet) they did a diagnosis. They said I needed to replace the whole shifter and if I did I’d have to pay over $1000 for them to do it and it wouldn’t be covered if it went out again because the car isn’t a Chevy… but long story short they told me that at any time my shifter can stop working.. an no got into park or drive etc… I’m not trying to be stuck there Also another electrical is when I got my car and when I stopped at lights my car would shut off for the eco friendly mode.. then one day it jsut stopped and I had one day where it tripped out… where it worked then didn’t. Also, when I’m driving, and I think it’s when I accelerate and when going a steady speed the car jerks randomly. Like jerks forwards
Vehicle has been turning off while driving after pressing on the brakes. The dashboard will flicker/glitch, then the battery will go from 13.9V all the way up to 15.2V then back down then turn off. No service light or battery light will come up, I have taken it to auto zone and they said everything is fine with the battery/alternator. When the car shuts off, I have to press the start button, then shift into park and then press start again for it to work, if I shift it into park immediately when it turns off the car will not turn back on and I cannot shift gears.

The contact stated that upon attempting to open the liftgate, the liftgate failed to open. The contact also stated that there was an abnormal burning odor coming from the rear of the vehicle. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact to park the vehicle outside and not to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V338000 (Electrical System, Structure) was performed; however, the power liftgate failed to close after the repair, and the battery was drained. The dealer jump-started the vehicle and determined that the liftgate latch needed to be replaced. The contact was charged a fee for the repair, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle the following day, the contact noticed that the windshield wipers were inoperable. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where an unknown fuse was replaced, and the windshield wipers became inoperable. Additionally, the contact stated that the rearview camera image was black while reversing, and the infotainment system was inoperable intermittently. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing difficulty starting. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start on one occasion and was jump-started by AAA. The vehicle was taken to Firestone, where it was diagnosed with a lack of electrical connection with the key fob. The contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The contact stated that the various electrical failures had started after the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,286.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle was a private dealer sale in May of 2025. The contact stated that while receiving a diagnostic test, the contact became aware that the odometer mileage reading on the vehicle of 245,000 failed to match the odometer reading after the diagnostic test of 401,800. The current mileage was unknown.

WHEN AT IDLE AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT THE PARKING BRAKE WILL ENGAGE. I HAVE TO PUT MY JEEP IN PARK AND THEN TURN THE JEEP OFF AND BACK ON A FEW TIMES TO DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE. THIS HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES.
THE AUTOMATIC START STOP SYSTEM SHOWS FAILED.
Went to go to the grocery store and the Electronic Park Brake was engaged. Had it reset, went to the grocery store and it was re-engaged. Had it towed to dealer, upon diagnosis, corrosion was found at EPB module and connector pin. Declined repair and had it towed back home due to dealership quoting almost three thousand dollars for parts and repair. Upon later research, found that there is a known issue with water intrusion in this area that caused this and that there is a class action lawsuit due to almost 1.3 million vehicles affected by this and has been known about for almost 5 years. Dealership claims sunroof does leak but there has never been evidence of a leak from that area.

vehicle losing power even when on. Does not accelerate in drive or reverse. My issue is the dealer found corroded wires, but when did they not say that the last time it was in which was 3 months ago. They also all of sudden tell me my battery does not fit my Jeep so they needed to replace to new battery in order to be able s add mf diagnose. All this makes no sense.
Car goes into "limp mode" while driving. Will slow to a complete stop, not rev, and says "Shift to P then desired gear". All other components of car are on (battery barely a year old). Try to follow command prompt; after putting car in P, and shifting to D, it still won't rev. I was on an incline and began rolling backwards. Good thing no one was behind me at the time. Had to turn completely off. On startup, it's stuttering and takes a while to start. Turns on fine and will drive, but is physically jerking between gears. Then, the first time I have to stop for a significant time and idle, it will do it again. I follow process again and was able to record video, because I was on a back street and pulled over in time, luckily. Upon driving the next day and taking to dealer, it is still jerking. Dealer cannot replicate and shows no error codes, so they say to just keep driving and can only help if I bring in while it is happening? That is literally insane. Same thing happened a year ago, but after filling up and being on "Empty". I went to a independent mechanic then, which is why I was hopeful the dealer would have more insight into the problem. That mechanic also could not replicate. They said it could be a fuel line or pump issue and to never let gas get too low, or go through costly man hours to check the fuel line, but then it couldn't be that at all, so could still be back at square one. That time, it stopped me in a busy intersection TWICE and was far more terrifying. I decided to skip the potentially pointless and definitely expensive fuel line investigation. I decided to take it in again when it happened and followed the "don't let gas get too low" directive and had no further issues until 5/5/25.
I was driving and was at a residential stop sign and out of no where my vehicle just shuts off on me. At first I thought it was the on and off gas conserver device but I realized that wasn’t the issue when it wouldn’t turn on anymore and all the vehicles behind me started honking and then proceeded to go around me. This lady walking her dog even shouted what the hell was wrong with me thinking I was purposely stopping traffic. Then this nice guy came out of nowhere to help me move my vehicle out the way from ongoing traffic. He was nice enough to try and give my car some battery from his vehicle thinking that might be the problem and nothing would make my car turn on not even the starter would want to start. So I had no choice but to call a tow truck to transport my vehicle to a mechanic.
Parking brake module and connector got major water damage. My mechanic found over four gallons of water under my spare tire compartment. After inspecting it he found the module and wires fried. While driving my parking brake light came on and by time I parked my parking brake would not disengage. Check engine light, parking brake light, and traction control light. My vehicle is currently with my mechanic and currently being looked at. He is still trying to find parts and find the cause of the water leak. This was a very dangerous situation that could have caused a major accident.
I parked my vehicle at 6pm on February 15th. at 2:45 pm I awoke to a loud explosion outside my bedroom window. There was a very large fire, and it was my car. I was in shock we could only watch from our window as the fire department arrived and put out the fire which was spreading to the carport and mailboxes near my parking spot. It also burned a truck parked next to mine. both cars a total loss. My insurance company sent someone to tow my vehicle, but the tow truck driver refused saying the vehicle was untowable, due to the massive damage. the next day a neighbor informed me that he got the whole incident on video start to finish. 'The video shows my engine igniting while off and had been parked for over 6 hours. In the video you see a small flame start under the hood near the windshield wipers. the flame then grew and grew!!!! until the car was completely engulfed in flames. I also had a full tank of gas!!! Once the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. the whole thing was melted to the concrete. the engine laying on the ground. A TOTAL LOSS!!!!
My vehicle continues to sporadically lose power steering, power and braking. “4wd temporarily disabled” light keeps coming on but then goes off. I have taken to dealer and they say it doesn’t throw a code and there is nothing they can do. It’s a safety issue. Other Jeep Cherokee years and models keep getting recalled but not mine. Mine needs to be recalled. Very dangerous.has been happening increasingly more often in last two months.
This morning i heard about the recall of 63,000 jeeps from 2017-2019 for the power failure in the PTU. I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and i have experienced the same EXACT issue! I currently have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I'm the original owner. This Saturday, January 25th, I am turning it in for the PTU to be replaced. This will be my 2nd PTU replacement. . I was told that this 2nd PTU has a different Part Number than the OEM, or the last one. Thus making it slightly designed differently (i dont know the factual of this statement). *** In the last year, and mostly during warmer months, I have experienced MULTIPLE complete power failures of my Jeep. Anywhere from driving, and/or slow parking. it has even happended at times when taking an off ramp from the highway! I have had other people in the Jeep when this has happened. I was told that I have a loose battery terminal connection. So I went out and purchased the Battery Post Shims to increase the posts thickness on the battery. This did not resolve the problem. Since June 2024 I have been on MOPAR's waiting list for this replacment PTU and I finally received it a couple weeks ago. It is now winter and for some reason the power failure does not happen, but there is a consistent clicking in the front end. Not thinking it was the PTU because it has been replaced already, I thought it was the CV Joint so I bought that part. When i got to the dealership to have the work completed, they informed me that it is NOT the CV Joint, but definitely the PTU. So that is how I have been on the waiting list since June 2024. While driving doe the highway the Dashboard lights go out and headlights turn off. Headlights and bulbs go out frequently. Rear license plate lights go out even after bulb replacement. Kicks cruise off while driving and shift gear control warning.
The outside body of the vehicle is leaking, which is causing the Park break module to short circuit. This is causing my vehicle to suddenly stop and lock up.This has happened three times so far.
Started hesitating and did it at random times. I had a tune up done and it continued. I thought it was the transmission and took it to the transmission shop and they didn’t find anything wrong with the transmission. Started losing power and hesitation became worse while in traffic. Now it’s hesitating while stopped at the traffic light and not accelerating when taking off from a complete stop and not accelerating while merging. I brought it to the dealership in Lakeport, Ca. 95453. When I brought it to them the start stop warning lights were lit up on the dash. The start stop feature is creating the problem. I’m being told by the dealership that they can’t disengage the start stop feature. This is a safety hazard and I’m concerned it’s going to create engine problems. Apparently it’s a nationwide issue. The start stop feature needs to be recalled and fixed.
My car has 123,000 done everything by book. Been report issues for over yr. Car almost got my killed by not stopping, turning, jerking on Accelerating and decelerating when shifting. All my motor mounts, transmission mount busted , messed up suspension control arm, ball joints, struts , axle, brakes all once. Drained battery. Spent 4500. Then my service shifter just came on. So back at shop. This is insane my shifter should last life time of my car. Due to the damage of that it cause a downfall of front end issues. This is well known issues of Jeep 2016 but not mine for a recall. It has cost me thousands and should not be happening at 122,000 miles . Car is at dealership again now and i have rental so not sure what that will cost. This started 2/11 not codes just could tell already filed reports with you all. My brakes lasted years , rotors was changed 2/11 hoping it helped per papers already damaged due to all this other crap. I’m very upset my car shouldn’t be having all these issues at 122,000 we are 1 car family
On my 2016 jeep Cherokee limited my 4WD needs service along with my shifter popping up every now and then ref needing service … all lights turn red and flash… Code: C14A7 - 97 Ptu motor Obstructed or blocked Google shows recall but when I look it up it shows not on my model.. Why ? Miles :114000 I’m very disappointed.. will not recommend a Jeep again…

The thing died randomly and locked the steering wheel. Dealer can’t recreate the issue and said they cant fix it. I pay monthly on this thing that cant be fixed?
IN EARLY 2022 THE VEHICLE JUST SHUTOFF WHILE I WAS ACTIVELY DRIVING. I COULDNT GET THE CAR TO NEUTRAL ONCE IT SHUT OFF AND HAD TO BE TOWED. BOOSTING DID NOT IMMEDIATELY RESOLVE THE ISSUE. BUT A DAY LATER THE CAR WOULD START AND THEN DRIVE FOR A WHILE AND JUST RANDOMLY SHUTOFF. I HAD BATTERY CHANGED, INCIDENT OCCURED AGAIN AND I HAD TO BE TOWED A COUPLE OF THE TIMES AND JUST DECIDED TO READ UP ON LINE IF ANYONE WAS HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES AND I CAME ACCROSS THIS ARTICLE BUT WHEN I ENTERED MY VIN NUMBER IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE ISSUE I AM HAVING IS SIMILAR.
Instroment light come back on with all other lights ignition off. Runs battery down.
3-4 time this has happened and twice in the last 2 weeks my car just won’t turn over. I have to turn switch then put car in/out of park to get my car to start. For few months now I keep hearing vibrating, grinding noises when I go to slow down or stop. I thought it could be my left front axle so I changed it, pads and rotors. They didn’t even look bad when I changed them. The noises is coming from somewhere below driver side. With no lights coming on it’s hard to know and I can’t afford just pay 150 to look at it say who knows. My fear is it will die on my driving when it also goes up down with acceleration at times. I don’t understand why they don’t seem to do recalls on these 2016 Jeeps when clearly everybody’s having the same issues but they claim it’s not our models. My car is barely over 100,000 miles. This is literally my third complain in a year with the same issues.
While driving the Vehicle the gear attempted to go into 4WD by itself. I pulled over and at that time I could not shift the car into drive or park. I believe the transmission or gear shift is having an issue. No warning lights go on the dashboard and it will stall while driving on the highway which caused an extreme safety hazard.
The Vehicle stops abrutly while moving and engages emergency parking break and powers down and activating needing to be shifted into park. Vehicle then will be shifted into park and shifted back into drive but will not move until vehicle is turned off and turned back on.
Stop Start Failure (replaced-filter and battery) Failed again same battery reason showing battery tested was fine. Still not working to date
On two occasions within 5 days while driving the vehicle, (the vehicle was in motion) it suddenly stopped and the would not accelerate making a whining noise as if the car was in Neutral. The dashboard then said to put the car in Park. or Shift to Park. I tried to turn off the vehicle and it didn't immediately want to restart, it was full of gas but sounded like it was empty. I was able to finally turn it on.

The car is constantly overheating because a failure from the computer to start up the fan causing other issues with the coolant. Like bursting all the hoses and causing coolant leaks. Additionally a service shifter message came up on my screen and all the gears (p,r,n,d,l) light up with a red dot. This happens while I’m driving. I never know when the car is just going to stop or over heat in traffic because sometimes the fan starts and sometimes it doesn’t.

Code P2504 and code P063A. Received these codes when I already have a new battery and car is only at 70k miles. Caused the vehicle to go in to lower saving mode in to a turn and almost hit other vehicles.

The back lift gate will not open with key fob or by pushing the button at the bottom of the back door. The only way to open or close the back hatch is to manually lift the door and in turn manually close it as well. Completely random and unpredictable but happens quite frequently. I'm physically disabled and this has been very painful for for me to deal with it happens. There's never been any messages or warnings when this happens. I've had my jeep in for oil changes and other maintenance items, it will never do it while I'm trying to demonstrate this to the service representative.
The shifter causes an error whenever I shift into drive. An alert comes up on the dashboard making the dashboard inaccessible and the PRNDL lights up red. The alert says "service shifter."
Jeep gives a “service shifter” warning/notification and all the lights on the shifter are on. Can clear by turning the car off and back on but the notification will soon appear again after driving. Happens every 100-200 miles or if the car is turned on and off just a few times a day for daily use. Shifter was refusing to be put in park one of the times the notification came on, very scary if you are driving or attempting to park.
While driving the vehicle engine shuts off or goes neutral and I am unable to keep driving. A message pops up on the dash that says “Shift to P and then shift to desired gear.” Car does not drive after doing this. I have to restart engine twice, both times the engine is delayed to start making a loud running noise. This has happened multiple times while driving all while my young children were in the car on busy roads. I have been lucky not to have been in a major accident yet. I have taken my car into the shop multiple times but they do not know how to fix this. I’ve reported it to the local dealer, they are no help either. New battery, all fluids full, full tank, no warning before the car shuts off while driving. I’ve seen hundreds of posts from drivers of the same make and model have the same issue. I’m appalled there is no recall. This can be very fatal if not addressed.

When the EcoBoost is active car will shut down upon attempted restart of EcoBoost.
Car losses power while driving, it will turn off. Shift to P and select gear comes up. It also has 4 different recalls that doesn't allow me to register but when contacted dealership they informed me that they didn't had parts for it, they didn't know when the were going to get them because it's in back order, to keep checking at the end of each month to see if the get any. This is not acceptable, as it's not the owners fault. I don't have a drivable car, don't know when it's going to get fix but I still have to make my car payment.
The power liftgate stopped working. This is the exact issue described in the 23V-338 / 49A Recall. The year, make, and model of my car are the same as detailed in the recall, but this specific VIN is not included. The issue is due to an electrical short that poses a fire hazard. There is no manual way to open the liftgate, it completely relies on the functionality of the electric system. It is clear that the 23V-338 / 49A Recall should include a wider range of VINs including mine.
My parking brake suddenly turned on and my jeeps information center on the dash informed me to stop and shift to park. The light on the switch for the emergency brake flashes as well as the red light on the shifter and the vehicle would not shift anymore nor would the epb turn off . I had to disconnect my battery for about 30 minutes before it allowed me to disengage the parking brake and start to drive again. It happened again once or twice before it completely just stopped engaging even when I tried to engage it. Car states when attempting to engage the parking brake that the parking brake needs to be maintained the light on the switch flashes and a warning light stays on now. The odometer started flashing a day or so after the initial issue began. Now I am unable to use my parking break at all, the warning light and message to get parking brake serviced show constantly as well and the odometer continues to flash.
The vehicle constantly loses power no matter the repairs I’ve came to notice it starts this during winter season
I was driving my car and as I was driving my car shut off and would not turn back on. Right before it powered down it said a message that said service shifter and all the lights to the shifter were lit up (P,R,D,N) I was reading that the shifter should last as long as your car does and this is a big safety issue
My car continuously sends off the “Service shifter” warning across the screen. Many other cars the same year, make, and model have been recalled for the same exact thing, stating that the wiring harness for the shifter is faulty, but my specific car wasn’t on the recall list. I’ve taken it to my dealership many times and they can’t ever find anything immediately wrong with it. Once the warning pops up, you cannot clear it off of your screen until you shut your car off and turn it back on, hoping it doesn’t reappear. The dealership can’t ever give me a straight answer as to what’s wrong and can’t ever find anything wrong with it. They just take my word that the warning goes off. I’ve been dealing with this for over a year and it’s very frustrating.
The vehicle is losing power. Sometimes all dash lights will flash then die. Sometimes I stop at a stop sigh and it just loses power. Sometimes while driving it will just lose power in the middle of the road causing a huge safety concern.

Light engine on but off plus wires ? Also issue wires all of engine or other keep flasher off and on also issue tires I bought 4 tires and blade brake issue after bought dealership I have told but they rip off but issue not safety hard to explain English also feel hot in car without heat and gas fill but not show plus hot inside ..
After making a left turn and giving it gas to get up the road the car suddenly stalled and had to come to a complete stop. Almost as if the car had went into park but it was still in drive. Service transmission message came on board and check engine light. Had to have a rollback come to tow home. Car is still not operable. I’m about to contact Jeep. I did read online about the investigation for 2015-2022 jeep Cherokee . The electronic brake malfunction because of corrosion due to water leak
the parking brake has engaged several times at low speeds in parking lots, comes on when turn the vehicle on, and when placed into park. not sure if it will do it during high speeds, at the shop now. it happened during the Power Transfer Unit failed and should be looked at as a part affected by that. We had no issues until the PTU failed, and the parking brake started coming on when we put the vehicle into park, then would do it, the last time, the parking brake must have been instructed by the ptu to engage while the vehicle was in motion or shorted from a electrical surge from the ptu. the dealer doesn't think they are related, but i disagree. the service transmission, service 4wd, system unavailable, check engine light, abs, traction control, brake light, all came on and the parking brake engaged while pulling out into traffic, i got it to the next drive while dragging the rear tires, i was going about 20-25 mph.
I purchased my car brand new in 2016. I did not drive the vehicle often since working in NYC and parking was impossible. Then we had the Pandemic in 2020-current and I have been working from home for the last 2 years and 8 months. The car had been in an indoor garage and occasionally I would take the car for a ride and then the car wash. I took very good care of the vehicle. On September 11, 2023, I had to meet a client in White Plains, NY and decided to drive. When I got to White Plains, NY I entered the garage and parked the car. Immediately, the brake light came on with two yellow lights. Then I was unable to reverse the car and/or go forward. Since I was already in a parking spot, I left the car in it's position and thought that I would take care of it when I return. When I returned the Emergency Brake Light was blinking and I was unable to move forward and/or backwards. The brakes were engaged so I kept pressing the Emergency Brake hoping that the brakes would disengage. After about 45 minutes turning the car on then off and pressing the Emergency Brake the brakes disengaged and I was able to move the car. The next day I mentioned the problem to my Dad (who is a mechanic and engineer) and he came to my house to inspect the car. When he opened the back compartment of the vehicle it was filled with water. My Dad tested the brakes and again the brakes were engaged and the vehicle would not go forward and/or in the reverse. The brakes would not disengage. My Dad had to tow the car to a Mechanic Shop to have them remove all the parts in the back. The Mechanics inspected the vehicle and found water leak on rear trunk of car which affected the E-brake module. Disassembly in the rear of the car was performed in order to dry the water which they say entered through sunroof of vehicle. This has been a mind blowing experience and the worse part is that the Manufacturer (FCA) states they cannot help me. This is really evil and wicked with Jeep Cherokee.

While driving my jeep the service park brake light came on and shortly after the park break automatically engaged and brought me to a stop, it has been in the shop 4 different times for this same issue and they can’t get it fixed, I get it back and it just continues to happen over and over, this is a huge safety issue and I would like there to be a fix for it
Our Vehicle is currently at the Dealership for a Power Liftgate electrical issue. There is a documented recall for 2016 Jeep models regarding the Power Liftgate. Our vehicle does not show any open recalls but this should be investigated as being associated with the active recall for Power Liftgate.
The vehicle just cuts off while in the middle of driving and everything shuts off. New battery installed 2 months ago, no loose cables, plenty of gas. Cutting off while driving poses a very bad hazard. The last time it happened the shop that had recently changed my oil two weeks prior said it was due to loose battery cables and it has now been a month since that occurrence took place. Now it's happening again.

Blower module, a/c module and yes it’s available anytime. For starters my a/c doesn’t work completely and I have a newborn that cannot be in this vehicle due to that issue. Also with my first encounter with the issue, my car turned off and all the lights came on then turned off and warned that autostart/stop didn’t work, and my emergency brakes didn’t work along with my traction control. The a/c error has be confirmed by a dealer for me, but they said it was rare for a bunch of electronics to go out with it. The vehicle has not been looked yet by a manufacturer dealer due to money being tight. The car stopped working for about 5 minutes with my brother inside the vehicle. The lights flashed on then threw out all those warnings I had mentioned up top.
All of the warning lights on the dash light up at once. The car then suddenly goes into limp mode. The car has been to the dealer 4 times for this problem. The dealer thought is was a bad module, however the car is continuing to have problems after replacing it twice. I'm scared to drive the car. We already had a problem with the car with oil consumption where the car would turn off while driving, the dealer fixed that problem.
My Vehicle shuts down once a day, every morning after about a couple minutes of driving. The engine shuts off, the dash notifies me to "Shift vehicle into park then desired gear" but with my engine off, I have to restart my car as well. My car won't restart unless I try over and over and hold the key while turning the ignition. Occasionally I get a "Service Shifter" notification on my dash but no lights or notifications besides that. I've been to one Jeep dealership service department so far and they were not able to locate the cause.
This problem started 3 o 4 day after I got the car from the dealer, I was driven to my work in highway 70 lonoke Arkansas and suddenly my car started to shift back and started to lose velocity and others cars started to pass me, was very scary ,I took the car to the dealer and they told me, they don't know what happen with the car,they don't let the mechanic to fix it and I took the vehicle to O'Reilly, they scanned it and found that was the Coil and Sparkle,so I bought both and they recommended the next door mechanic TIRE AND LUBE. In lonoke, the car run good for 2 months because I fix it February 8th 2023 and April 4 again I was driven back from my work, the check engine come one a message of transmission service show up, the car started to backup or speed, lose velocity, took it to the mechanic, they scanned it again and show a code P0887 that mean,TCM need to be fix or the Software computer. All this happens in less of the 3 months that I got this car, I got the car in January 17th 2023.Is very important for my safety and the safety of others to know, if is any anomaly with those Cars, that can't be fix no matter what, because right now today April 6th I am sitting here waiting the dealer call me for take my car to be checked it and I m scare to drive, because I don't know how the car go to behave and also already, I have a lot of money invested in this car that even doesn't help me to get to work, I scare for me and others. I can't drive in the Freeway I 40 because with all this problem from the car I can get in a very very bad accident.
Let's start with my vehicle was first in the shop back in February for a failed brake line. Some how it failed. Then my thermoset unit failed. Not sure why on that either. Then they noticed some other issues were fixed. I got my vehicle back. A few days later my vehicle was back in the shop because my transmission kept doing something causing me to keep getting kicked out of gear causing me to stop in the middle of the intersections which could have caused an accident. I lost my acceleration control and while driving I kept losing traction. Then supposedly fixed it. Then the same day I got it back I had to send it back to dealership due to the transmission kept getting kicked out of gear causing me to get stuck in the middle of an intersection. They finally towed it. Apparantly they need a part which is currently on back order for some unknown reason.
Car has only once had a MIL light activate. It was at 76000 and required a thermostat replacement. Cost 250 mechanics labor and part cost. The car has needed to have1qt added every 2k miles. No oil light comes on. When I purchased the car at 72k I would smell gasoline and burning oil. Took it to Napleton jeep where I bought it and had the oil changed to be safe. The same week I purchased it. Mechanic informed me it was “just a little low” 3qts. The car holds 5,5 - that’s more than a Little low. He nor the manager informs me Of oil consumption problems. The car currently has oil sitting on top of the engine. I will add a picture of the cars engine the day after having the oil changed and the excess oil cleans off. The image will show the amount of oil that was back on it just from driving it home a 12 min drive not stop and go. Dealership finally noted it was 3 qts low. Contacted fca. They refused to do anything but said to start a oil consumption test. They suggested the emmison recall should fix the oil consumption. Fca was aware that I couldn’t put 1500 miles on the car before the long block engine replace for the class action lawsuit on Tigershark engines last day to file claim was in 7 days. They were aware all dealerships refused to give me my paper work for servicing and oil being low prior
The component that needed replacement was the PTU (Power Transfer Unit). My Service 4WD drive light began going on so I brought it to my mechanic who told me there was a recall associated with this diagnostic code and to bring it to Jeep dealership. I then brought to dealership, was charged $160.00 and told that the recall was not for my particular VIN number and the cost of the repair was $3,000. When I googled this issue, there were all of the same warning lights, and all told that the PTU had failed. I fond it hard to believe that this same unit is faulty in the same year, make and model but only in specific cars? Isn't it the same part? I had to save up for the repair as it was costly. I was told that the car was drive-able. I was then driving with my daughter in the car and the car stopped accelerating and warning lights came on. I had to coast into a parking lot and the dashboard flashed to put the car in park. I put it in park and then car still would not accelerate. I called Jeep Customer Service to try and discuss this matter, as I could not afford the repair but need my vehicle for my job. They told me there was nothing they could do and there was no recall on my vehicle. The problem has been repaired by an independant service center on 2/8/23 for $1430.00 I have been a loyal Jeep customer for over 20 years and was very disheartened by this latest issue and how it was handled.
While driving, when attempting to accelerate, the vehicle dies. Have to pull over, shift into park and attempt to restart. Sometimes restarts quickly, sometimes you have to crank and crank. Also dies if you have to stop suddenly. Example, when someone pulls out in front of you or changes lane/swerves in front of you. Problem was intermittent, in cold weather, when vehicle was cold. Now, it is likely to happen at any time. This creates a dangerous situation, trying to get off of the road when it dies. Check engine light is on, and "lightning bolt" dash light comes on when vehicle stalls. Ran diagnostic - revealed no code.

When I went to leave work yesterday on my dash a "P" with a circle around it was illuminated on my dash is orange. I also was unable to drive in reverse as my cars parking brake was on. I tried many things to get it to release with no luck. It took about 20 minutes of turning on and off the car, googling, depressing the break and many other items. I don't know how but i finally was able to find the right combination of knobs break petal and excel ration it dropped into reverse. Late that evening I attempted to leave my home again it would not allow me to back up. I was unable to use my car and was forced to Uber. I have since unhooked my batterie, did a combination of break petal, seat belt, brake release and gas to allow the care to reverse 5/10 times. This I hear is a continued issue with a Jeep and I should file this issue with NHTSA.

Vehicle frequently has issues with the touch screen for the radio as well as the mechanical controls for the radio stop responding causing me to be unable to control the volume, power, tuning, using touch screen to control whether I am using the am/fm radio, bluetooth or other media options. When this happens the screen turns completely black as if there is no power going to the radio appearing and acting as if I have not started the vehicle at all. The radio also frequently switches itself from both Bluetooth and FM options to the same AM channel by itself. I actually had to take my vehicle in to the dealership and pay out of my own pocket after I was driving on a busy freeway and my vehicle suddenly stopped responding to me pressing the accelerator and the dash began flashing . The vehicle then turned completely off forcing me to shift into neutral and restart the vehicle again while actively slowing down on the freeway without any warning. When I restarted my vehicle and I put it back into drive I could then only accelerate to 25mph . When I took the vehicle in I had to pay for them to reprogram my computer and after researching I discovered that this was already a problem that caused a recall but upon bringing this up to the dealership as well as calling Chrysler directly I was informed that even though the problem was the same as the recall they issued my vin number was not a part of the recall so they couldn’t and would not do anything for me. The date this occurred may be different from what I put below but with the maintenance records from the dealership I took the vehicle to an exact date can be determined.
Car would not start I bought a battery and 2 days later car was completely dead. No power would not charge. Took it to a shop it had no starter or alternator issues. The car will just turn off at anytime even will driving. There is no power and then just open hood and it will start back up sometimes.
Car has been having issues shifting gears when going uphill/downhill for a few months, only 88k miles never wrecked, during drive a "Service shifter" alert came on and all drive/park/reverse lights lit up, screen could not be removed, car repeatedly had issues getting rpms while pressing gas. Took to a repair shop and they claimed it needed a transmission liquid flush or brake rotors but neither issues coorelate. This seems to be a frequent issue going on with other jeeps. Problem fixed itself after stopping and turning off car and turning back on but still has issues getting stuck in certain gears.

I brought in my vehicle for the power train update recall and it triggered my shifter light to come on which now they are saying is the shifter bezel and harness and I have to pay out of pocket for. It was not on prior to the recall software update for the power train
Drove car a few minutes and while accelerating the vehicle slowly stopped and all the electrical warning signals went off simultaneously. I was able to push down on the gas pedal, but my car would not accelerate, nor did it sound like engine was running. Car would not power off, but would not move in reverse or drive. Every possible vehicle warning light flashed on the dash, all 5 lights lit up on the gear shifter at the same time, and the windshield wipers turned on even though they were turned off. I have a video of this. Power locks would not lock or unlock car. Power windows would not roll up or down. My media screen flashed an error message. State patrol and our local police department had stop traffic to safely move my car off the roadway to a safe location. My car was towed and the battery had to be disconnected, so vehicle would power off.
2016 Jeep Cherokee TrailHawk 80k miles PTO failed in 10/22 had extended Warranty but not through Jeep @ cost $4k. Now with 89k it’s going out again. What can I do
Went out to the vehicle in the morning, inserted the key in the ignition, turned the key to start the vehicle and the battery exploded.
At approx. 49,000 miles I brought my Jeep to an authorized dealership to inspect hard shifts/skips in the transmission shifting. Dealership was unable to reproduce issue. At approx. 59,000 my vehicle was fully repaired and guaranteed from an authorized collision center (passenger side impact) when the transmission light began to illuminate. The same dealership cleared these codes without diagnosis for the issue. At approx. 71,000 the 4WD light illuminated and the dealership replaced the PTU, indicating it was "unresponsive" yet not due to collision. Days after this repair the module that communicates connection between my vehicle and the starter/alternator has gone out "inexplicably" I believe my model has faulty electrical components similar to the recalled models and I would like to raise complaints everywhere and anywhere that my issue is relevant.
No messages were displayed when any issues occured. The back hatch stops working randomly. Whether your trying to open or close the back hatch, it will not operate by any of the interior push buttons or by using the key fob. I have to manually pull the hatch open &/or closed. I had a technician see this happen as well. I've had numerous times where my Jeep will be shifting & it lags a little bit and then causes a loud bang & jolt when it shifts to the next gear. I only drive approximately 6,000 miles/year. Any resolution to these issues would be greatly appreciated, Amy
Our jeep started displaying and error stating "vehicle needs to be stopped to shift" and after this error would display the engine would cut off. We took it to the dealership and we were told that the shifter bezel needed to be replaced. It was replaced in March. We we driving our car again on 5/8/22 and error code said "service shifter now" so we went back to the dealership and they are saying the shifter needs replaced a second time.

The "Service Shifter" warning came on and the transmission started slipping. If the transmission goes out while myself or kids are on the highway it not only could endanger us, but others as well. I have had this looked at by an independent shop and all it says that there is a bulletin on it.
Had an issue with my PTU that required to be replaced after finding "internal debris" which started with my 4WD Drive light came on. I feel this could fit under an active recall since my 1) Make (Jeep), 2) Model (Cherokee) 3) Year (2016) and 4) Part (PTU) including recall W47 (campaign 20V343) and W48 (campaign 20E037).
My emergency parking brake was stuck on (I never turned it on) and I was unable to move my car. It was towed to Brown's Jeep and was determined their was a leak in the power liftgate that corroded the module. There were recalls for 2015 Jeep Cherokees for the same reason but Jeep claims this is not due to a recall. I asked how I can avoid this in the future and was told this won't happen again. Appears not to be a "normal wear and tear" issue.
Known service bulletin by Jeep. Service bulletin number 08-060-16. The parking brake module wiring harness connection can get terminal corrosion through faulty seals in the Jeep aka “water intrusion”. Water intrusion can get into the parking brake module wiring harness and cause a malfunction of the electronic parking brake. Brake will deploy randomly while vehicle is in motion or parked. No current recalls on this service bulletin. Apparently can also lead to fires in the rear cargo area. My parking brake deployed while driving. My parking brake deployed when shifting the car into park rendering it immobile. Well documented issue throughout the Jeep Cherokee community.
This has happened the past two weeks. I will go to accelerate my vehicle and an error message will pop up saying "in order to shift to desired gear you must be in park" or "shift to park then desired gear" and the check engine light, battery light, a lightening bolt red light and the electrical stability control light comes on. My car has shut off on me three times while driving it, once down the road from my home and had to be jumped off just to make it back home, then I was stranded in the middle of a busy intersection and had to have the local police push my vehicle to a near by parking lot and then I was leaving work and all the lights came on so I pulled into Mavis Tire and had a tech come check it out. As my car was in park and at 0mph my car was stuck in 1st gear which is shown in the pictures attached. I was told to take it to the dealership and the local one here in Newnan Georgia is absolutely the worst. No one would answer the phone and when I finally got someone on the phone they told me I would have to drop my car off and that it would be a week before they could get to it. I am scared to keep driving the vehicle knowing at any moment it could shut off on me while driving it.
Car will slow down, steering wheel will lock, and message "Shift to P then Shift to desired gear" will pop up. Car will take a minute to start up again and problem reoccurs.

I was driving home doing 65/70 when my dash lights came on, all of the shifter lights came on, and a service light started beeping to service the shifter. Leaving me stranded without a car. $600 for the parts plus labor and fees, I was able to get a new shifter replaced, and I am hoping this never happens again!
The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system is locked in engaged mode and I am unable to release the EPB causing the car to be immobilized.
service shifter light went on and off for about a month. then one day went over a speed bump. and ever since then the message doesnt go away. ive cleared the codes had it flashed change fuses. and nothing. EVeryone has the same complaints about it and jeep dealerships dont take it serious. its a problem when i can see the speedometer or fuel range. or any other lights or warnings becuase that message wont go away.
This car has been stopping in the middle of the road basically since I got it. I bring it in and it breaks down over and over. Most recently in front of my house on a very busy street with 18 wheelers. I do not feel safe in this vehicle.
*SERVICE SHIFTER POP UP* I've had my 2016 Jeep Cherokee for about 4 years and every few months it pops up with SERVICE SHIFTER on my dash and the shifter lights up. I have talked to my local Jeep dealership, where I purchased this vehicle, and they brushed it off. After reading forums, this can be a HUGE safety hazard and could cause an accident or even worse, kill somebody!! Jeep should be held responsible and this should be considered a recall because alot of people have complained about this SERVICE SHIFTER popup. At times, I am scared to drive my vehicle after these episodes happen because I fear I am going to get into a car accident.

My 2016 Jeep Cherokee was RANDOMLY coming up with "Service Shifter" warning light. The dealers tell me they "can't replicate the problem" even though it still happens and THOUSANDS online complain about the same issue. If this is a serious shifter issue, it could cause problems driving. I have figured out that if I cover the sunlight sensor on the dashboard when the lights are set to auto (effectively keeping the interior lights dimmer) I can drive without the warning coming up. Within SECONDS of uncovering it, the interior lights brighten and the "Service Shifter" warning comes on instantly. THAT is why I think it's electrical. The fact that Jeep is shrugging it's shoulders and doesn't acknowledge a problem is absolutely disgusting!
Warning to “Service Shifter”. Dealer said it needed new parts due to faulty wiring component. Internet/social media reports 100s of similar circumstances. Dealer said parts not covered by Jeep. Earlier years (2014-2015) and 2017 have recalls, but not 2016. Vehicle is only 5 years old and it’s extremely unclear why 2016 is not included in recalls.
Transmission will not shift out of low gear. Especially when on a steel hill. Also, turn signals will not turn off unless I manually do so. Dealer tells me I must let them do a $125 diagnostic test, (I pay for it), then must be reviewed before they can say it’s a warranty or not. These seem to be common problems that many Cherokee owners have but never recalled.

Service shifter message comes up on dashboard of vehicle. All the lights on the shifter turn red and the dashboard will not permit changing the screen message. This happened frequently in 2019 for the vehicle. Service at the dealership replaced the shifter wiring harness and bezel kit. Now the same issue is occurring with the same service message for the shifter. Dealership states the shifter bezel needs to be replaced with updated version. If this problem worsens, the vehicle could stop shifting and/or be unable to put the vehicle into park. This is a common problem for Jeep Cherokees as seen on online forums from owners.
I was at the store came out started my jeep sat there for a minute put my jeep in drive pressed the gas pulled forward out of the parking spot when my jeep stopped my dash said put in park then select gear well i was in the middle of the lane and i couldn’t press the brake or turn my wheel there was a car coming down the lane and my jeep was just sitting there not able to turn back on. finally i was able to get my jeep to turn back on and i put it in reverse and left it in the parking lot if I were to drive home and that happened there could’ve been a major accident! I’m so grateful I was not on the interstate!
For the past couple of weeks I’ve been noticing the car does not react when I press the gas… like there’s a delay In catching speed.., like stalling, last night the “service shifter” light came on and all the PRN&D lights are on and I’m scared for my kids and my safety.
The "service shifter" warning come on. And all of the lights go on on the shifter for example Park Neutral, Drive. I had this problem a couple of years ago and the dealer replaced the shifter assembly and harness. Now the same problem is happening. After shutting off the engine the message disperses but comes back on after a few minutes. Now I'm afraid that I'll have to pay for the repair because the car has 48,000 miles on it and out of warranty. Is there a recall on this problem?
TRANS SERVICE SHIFT LIGHT. I HAVE A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE TRAIL HAWK. TODAY (5/12/2021) IS THE THIRD TIME I'VE BROUGHT MY JEEP IN FOR THIS PROBLEM. FIRST WAS ON 04/17/2019 @ 17,330 MILES. SECOND WAS ON 02/04/2020 @ 21,917 MILES. THE THIRD WAS TODAY 05/12/2021 @29,046 MILES. EVERY TIME THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THE BEZEL AND THE HARNESS FOR THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER. I KNOW THIS IS AN ISSUE FROM RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM WITH OTHER JEEP CHEROKEE OWNERS. JEEP NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OR PAY ME EVERY TIME I HAVE TO TAKE OFF OF WORK TO BRING MY VEHICLE INTO THE SHOP.

I'VE READ MUCH ON THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS THAT THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME SORT OF RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE. MY 2016 JEEP WITH LESS THAN 20K MILES ON IT IS GETTING A "SERVICE SHIFTER" WARNING MESSAGE. WHEN THIS LIGHT TURNS ON, ALL THE SHIFTER LIGHTS COME ON AS WELL. WHEN I TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON IT CLEARS THE FAULT ONLY TO SEE THE ERROR MESSAGE POP UP AGAIN WITHIN 5 OR SO MINUTES OF DRIVING. AFTER READING ABOUT THIS ONLINE I THINK THIS IS A WIDER RECALL THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN BECAUSE SINCE THE RECALL AND SERVICE BULLETIN RELEASE DATE IN JUNE 2018 THERE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IT DID FINALLY TURN ON AFTER I REMOVED THE KEY FROM FOB. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DID SOME UPDATES ON IT, COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS LATER. WAS WORKING FINE AFTER THAT, BUT TWO DAYS LATER I GOT THE INITIAL MESSAGE FROM ABOVE AND MY GPS WAS NOT WORKING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WILL DO UPDATES AGAIN. DEALER CAME BACK AND SAID DURING THE UPDATES THE RADIO WENT (STOP WORKING)AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIO. THEY ORDERED ONE, I TOOK IT IN FOR REPLACEMENT AND IT'S BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 3 DAYS, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. THEY SAID THEY ARE WAITING ON FACTORY TO ADVISE THEM.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD IT FIXED BEFORE. LIGHT CAME BACK ON WITHIN 3 MONTHS AFTER GETTING IT FIXED. I SAW A POST ON FACEBOOK ABOUT A LADY THAT HAD IT HAPPEN TO HER 2017 CHEROKEE. SHE STATED THAT THE LIGHT CAME ON RANDOMLY WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING AND THAT HER WHEEL LOCKED IN PLACE AND THE CAR SPED UP AND SHE CRASHED. CHRYSLER IS INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE. SINCE THEN I'VE TRIED TO SCHEDULE SERVICE WITH TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT USING 2-3 QUARTS EXTRA OF OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES IS NORMAL & THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING.

THIS WAS 7/12/2017 AND THE SHIFTER ISSUE WAS NOTED AGAIN ON THIS SERVICE ORDER. 4/2018, A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS PUT OUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE, BUT I WAS NOT AWARE OF IT UNTIL 12/2019. AFTER RESEARCH AND THE DISCOVERY OF THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY OF THE JEEP CHEROKEES PRODUCED BETWEEN 2015 AND 2018. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP 3/12/2020 TO GET ANOTHER ISSUE FIXED AND ASKED THEM TO REPAIR THE SERVICE SHIFTER PROBLEM, NOW THAT THEY KNEW HOW TO FIX IT. THEY WOULD ONLY FIX IT IF I PAID FOR IT. I, AGAIN, CALLED JEEP CUSTOMER CARE FOR ASSISTANCE, BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS TIME THAT THE MILEAGE IS TOO HIGH AND IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH I BROUGHT THIS TO THEIR ATTENTION DURING THE BATTERY ORDEAL IN 5/2017. THEY ARE REFUSING TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR, EVEN THOUGH THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THEM DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD (AS WITH THE BATTERY). MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS DRIVING THIS DANGEROUS CAR. I HAVE SEEN THE FORUMS AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS JEEP, IT NEEDS A RECALL. I RECEIVED THE ASSESSMENT FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THAT THE RECALL ISSUE WAS FIXED. A WEEK AFTER I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT TURNED OFF AFTER SO BY THE TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN, THEY "COULDN'T HELP ME" SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON AT THE TIME. I ALSO DID NOT HAVE A WAY TO PROVE THAT THIS ISSUE WAS HAPPENING STILL TO MY VEHICLE SO I LEFT DISAPPOINTED AND SURE IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN AT SOME POINT. AS OF TODAY 28 MARCH 2019 THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY ON THE WAY TO WORK AROUND 0836AM, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO RECORD A VIDEO OF IT AS IT WAS HAPPENING THAT I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SHARE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT SHUT OFF DURING THE VIDEO. LAW ENFORCEMENT HAD TO BE CALLED TO RE-DIRECT TRAFFIC. THEY HAVE REPLACED COILS, FILTERS AND EXPLAINED THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN IF IT SENSES LOW OIL. THEY CONTINUE TO STATE THE OIL CONSUMPTION AS THE REASON FOR THE STALLS. WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 50 MPH I HAD TO SLOW DOWN FOR ON COMING TRAFFIC.THE JEEP SHIFTED TO A LOWER GEAR AND LUNGED SO FIERCELY I THOUGHT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FALLEN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHCLE IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP. LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING SERVICE TRANSMISSION. I HAD NO POWER TO MOVE. IM ON AN OVER PASS WITH TRAFFIC AND THERES NO WHERE TO GO IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. BY CHANCE THE JEEP WAS ABLE TO START AND ACCELERATE TO 5MPH AND GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. IT WAS A VERY SERIOUS HAZARD FOR ME AND MY DAUGHTER AND OTHER DRIVERS WE BASICALLY GLIDED TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDST OF TRAFFIC WHILE DOING 50MPH. THAN STARTING IT UP AND ONLY DOING 4 TMPH. THIS WAS CLEARLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I DONT FEEL SAFE OR CONFENDENT. I PAID A PREMIUM PRICE FOR A VEHICLE THAT SHOULD BE DEPENDABLE AND SAFE. NOW THE JEEP WONT START. THE REAR BUTTON TO CLOSE THE HATCH HAS QUIT WORKING. THE START BUTTON WILL NOT START THE CAR AT ALL. WHEN IT STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. IT WOULD HESATATE AS IF THE BATTERY WHERE DEAD. WHEN IT DID START THE SETTINGS 'CLIMATE CONTROL WOULD BE SET TO DEFROST. THE A WOULD SHOW UP ON THE FACE WITHOUT BEING PRESSED. AND EVENTUALLY THE SCREEN WOULD NOT REACT TO TOUCH AT ALL. AND THE RADIO WOULDNT PLAY. BUT ALL ELISE SEEMED TO WORK WITHOUT A PROBLEM. THE WINDOWS WORKED FINE THE LIGHTS WHERE BRIGHT. THERE WASNT A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY. I AM APPLAUDED THAT JEEP WOULD THINK THIS IS ACCEPTABLE FOR A NEW VEHICLE IM THE COMSUMER. I PAID FOR A PRODUCT THAT HAS TO AND IS A TO CERTAIN EXPECTATIONS.

ON JULY 18, 2018 I WENT OUTSIDE TO GET AN ITEM OUT OF BACK OF MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS STATIONARY AND I COULDN'T GET LIFTGATE TO LIFT AND I NOTICED THERE WAS SMOKE IN MY CAR, I OPENED THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND SMOKE BILLOWED OUT. THE SMELL IN THE VEHICLE WAS AWFUL, A COMBINATION OF BURNT RUBBER AND PLASTIC. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR BACK LEFT LIFTGATE IN 2015 OF WHICH I TOOK IT IN AND SUPPOSEDLY IT WAS REPAIRED. I ALSO IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP OF WHICH THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL AND VERY UNCONCERNED. I TALKED TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY SAID IF IT WAS DUE TO A RECALL I SHOULD CALL CHRYSLER CORPORATION OF WHICH I DID DAILY WITH NO RESULTS. THEY WOULD NOT LET ME TALK TO ANYONE, THEY FINALLY SENT AN INSPECTOR OF WHICH HE JUST LOOKED AT THE INSIDE OF CAR, DID NOT TAKE THE PANELS OFF OR ANYTHING AND SENT TO THE CORPORATION AND THEY SENT ME A LETTER STATING IT WAS NOT DUE TO RECALL. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON WITH THE KEY SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE ENGINE TURNED OVER. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AT THE NEXT TWO STOP LIGHTS. I DROVE ABOUT THREE MILES PAST THE THIRD STOPLIGHT, AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED BUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 55 MPH. THERE WAS NO SHOULDER. IT WAS TERRIFYING. I TURNED ON MY FLASHERS AND CAME TO A FULL STOP COASTING WITH NO BRAKES AND NO ABILITY TO SHIFT GEARS. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON WITH THE KEY AGAIN AND THE CAR SEEMED "FINE." I USED THE DASH BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE AUTO-OFF MECHANISM AND DROVE THE LAST TEN MILES HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. I'M NOT SURE WHETHER THE ESS SYSTEM IS RELATED TO THE MALFUNCTION, HOWEVER THE ERROR MESSAGE AND RESULT OF TURNING IT OFF SUGGESTS IT IS. 1) CAR STALLS AT RANDOM WITHOUT WARNING AND NO APPARENT CAUSE. I'VE HAD THE CAR STALL AT LOW SPEEDS AFTER TURNING (ABLE TO RESTART) BUT MOST SIGNIFICANTLY AN INCIDENT OCCURRING 7/9/2017 WHEN I LOST ALL ACCELERATION ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65MPH WHILE TOWING A 3500LB TRAILER. THE TACHOMETER AND SPEEDODOMETER DROPPED IMMEDIATELY TO ZERO. TOTAL SHUTDOWN. CONCURRENTLY ALL THE ELECTRONICS SHUTDOWN, INCLUDING POWER BRAKES. THANKFULLY I WAS ON A FLAT STRETCH OF ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO DRIFT INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART; NO ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE WERE FUNCTIONING. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. 3) CRUISE CONTROL FAILS TO MAINTAIN CAR SPEED ON MODERATE DOWNGRADES...RPM'S WILL SHOOT TO 5000, THEN CAR WILL "TAKE OFF" INCREASING SPEED BY AS MUCH AS 15 MPH MORE THAN CONTROL IS SET FOR. MY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN VERIFIED/REPLICATED BY A JEEP CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER BUT THEY HAVE STATED THEY CAN'T FIX THE CAR BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HUNTINGTON JEEP IN HUNTINGTON, NEW YORK, BUT THE FAILURES COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS INVALID. BEGINNING ABOUT TWO MONTH AGO, I HAVE BEEN GOING BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DRIVE TRAIN RELATED ISSUES. THE INITIAL ISSUE WAS A FAILED REAR HUB AT AROUND 25,000 MILES WHICH WAS FOUND DURING AN OIL CHANGE. NEXT, THE MAIN DRIVE SHAFT (PROPELLER SHAFT) BEGAN MAKING GRINDING NOISES AS WELL AS A WOBBLE/THUMPING SOUND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE GRINDING SOUND WAS RESOLVED BUT THE WOBBLE/THUMPING CONTINUED. THE FOLLOWUP FOR THAT SOUND FOUND FAILED HALF-SHAFTS (BOTH SIDES), FAILED REAR DIFFERENTIAL, AND FAILED TRANSFER CASE/MODULE. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME WITHOUT ALL REPAIRS BEING COMPLETED DUE TO LACK OF PARTS AND "WARRANTY NOT AUTHORIZING ADDITIONAL DAYS OF RENTAL" THE CAR THEN BEGAN TO GIVE FAILED PARKING BRAKE SERVICE CODES AND CHECK AIR BAG SYSTEM CODES WHICH SUPPOSEDLY ARE RELATED NOW TO A FAILED ON BOARD CONTROL MODULE. WHEN THE MOST RECENT CODES (TODAY) WERE GIVEN THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR INITIALLY.

THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO REPLICATE WATER COMING IN FROM RAIN BUT HAS NOT CHECKED AC CONDENSATION OR OTHER MEANS OF ENTRY THAT WE KNOW OF. WATER DOES APPEAR TO SHOW UP FASTER DURING PERIODS OF HOT EATHER AND AC USAGE. PLEASE NOTE - I HAVE PICTURES OF MOLD GROWING RAPIDLY ON THE CARPET UNDER THE FLOOR MATS.

LIGHT-EMMITING-DIODE LAMP WHICH INDICATES WHEN THE PARKING-BREAK IS ENGAGED IS NOT VISIBLE IN DAYLIGHT [I.E. PEAK BRIGHT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SUNSHINE]. AND, THE LED COLOR IS NON-OPTIMAL FOR HUMAN OBSERVATION. THE LED WHICH IS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE PARKING-BREAK IS SET IS NOT VISIBLE IN DAY LIGHT. PLEASE CONSIDER FIXING OR REPAIRING THIS PROBLEM ASAP. I ROUTINELY NEED TO COVER THE AREA WITH MY HAND AND SQUINT IN ORDER TO SEE IF THE LED IS LIGHTED. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COULD EASILY BE FIXED. PERHAPS SOMEONE DURING ASSEMBLY USED THE WRONG RESISTOR??? I HOPE THAT CHRYSLER JEEP USED PWM TO CONTROL THE LED BRIGHTNESS, SO THAT THIS ISSUE CAN BE FIXED WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE.

VEHICLE HAD RUN UNATTENDED IN ENCLOSED GARAGE. VEHICLE CONSUMED ALL FUEL IN GAS TANK (ABOUT 14 GALLONS) RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE HEAT BUILD UP IN GARAGE THAT ITEMS IN GARAGE MELTED. PARTS ON THE VEHICLE MELTED. THE BATTERY WAS RUINED FROM EXCESSIVE HEAT, THE FUEL PUMP, INSIDE THE FUEL TANK, MELTED. THE FUEL TANK BECAME DISTORTED. PLASTIC WAS FOUND IN THE VALVE TRAIN AND IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN SOURCED FROM THE MELTED FUEL PUMP. INTERIOR WAS DAMAGED AND FLAT SPOTS ON THE TIRES WERE CREATED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND IN PARK. THIS JEEP IS EQUIPPED WITH A KEYLESS IGNITION AND ENGINE STOP / START FUNCTION THAT SHUTS ENGINE OFF WHEN BRAKING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN RESTARTS ENGINE WHEN BRAKE IS RELEASED. EITHER THE VEHICLE STARTED ON IT'S OWN, OR VEHICLE WAS NOT SHUTOFF PRIOR TO DRIVER EXITING. JEEP DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY AUDIBLE ALERT TO THE DRIVER THAT THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AFTER THE KEY FOB HAS LEFT THE VEHICLE OR FOB IS OUT OF RANGE. IT IS ALSO A CONCERN THAT THE VEHICLE CONTROL MODULES WOULD LET THE VEHICLE RUN FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS AND NOT SHUTOFF. GIVEN THAT REMOTE START WILL SHUTOFF AFTER 15 MINUTES AND THE ACC POSITION IS ONLY GOOD FOR 30 MINUTES, HOW CAN JEEP DESIGN A VEHICLE TO IDLE UNATTENDED UNTIL THE FUEL TANK EMPTIED? VEHICLE WAS ALSO OBSERVED TO BE RUNNING IN A PARKING LOT TWO WEEKS LATER. WITNESSES PARKED NEXT TO THE JEEP HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF IT RUNNING WHEN DRIVER LEFT THE VEHICLE.
