I was told that my PTU needs replaced however since it did not throw the proper code it is not covered under the extended warranty that Jeep had out.
Transmission was replaced at 20k miles it has still continue to stall while driving causing hard shift and stalling in the middle of the road almost causing accidents.
There was a Recall on 2016 jeep cherrokee latitude fuel pumps - i think several years ago. This VIN Not on the list. But, the fuel pump has gone on this 2016 Jeep several weeks ago- vehicle stopped in busy city roadway. Towed to repair place -another make of fuel pump installed- then gas gauge not keeping track of gas . Called Jeep DEALERSHIP in Warren, Pa; and was told NO ONE HAS THESE MAIN JEEP FUEL Pumps. None in any 9 locations. They are on back order throughout the country. Sounds like there is a problem with the 2016 Jeep fuel pump. It needs to be recalled. This is a no brainer; and, not fair to Jeep customers that this issue wasn't made public and that the company didn't make a RECALL on THIS PUMP. There is a waiting lists for these pumps won't start distributing them till December. Please help with this matter.
I have owned my jeep since 2019. Since having my jeep MULTIPLE times I have had the Service shifter light come on. Previously shutting the vehicle off and turning it back on seemed to solve the issue for a little bit until it would come on again. Later down the road my battery died. Upon replacing the battery I didn't seem to notice the issue ever. Now I have another new battery and the light has come on permantely and does not turn off even if I restart the car and as I stated it is a brand new battery. I know there was a recall for this exact issue previously for the year before mine and the year after mine. Something needs to be done about this because i see countless people have this exact same problem.

Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure with "Service 4WD" message with "transmission service" message. Unfortunately, my car is not part of the recall but it is a similar issue.
THE AUTOMATIC START STOP SYSTEM SHOWS FAILED.
THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON, BUT IT GOES OFF SOMETIMES WHEN I RESTART. EVERY TIME I ASK SOMEONE TO CHECK IT OUT, THEY SAY THERE'S NOTHING TO SEE UNLESS IT IS ON. I DON'T WANT THIS TO CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT WHEN IT IS NOT ON ALL THE TIME. I HAVE A PICTURE OF IT AND I AM STILL REFUSED SERVICE FOR IT.
I’ve went to get my car inspected and it shows 1 recall for “IN-USE NOX - CATALYST EFFICIENCY” . There was no warning signs on my dashboard. My car just acts differently and it sounds much louder. My dealership, CarMax can’t repair it for free and charging over $100 for a diagnostic alone.
On [XXX] my Jeep started making a grinding noise near the rear axle. Initially, thinking something had broken when I had hit a pot hole earlier that evening. We parked the car at a garage and the next day inspected it and said it sounded like the rear differential may be effected, advising it should be safe to drive in “sport” mode. I drove it to Blueridge Chrysler Jeep in Abingdon VA where I informed them I had discovered a Recall 45A on the Jeep, they kept the Jeep and called me in a few days saying it was only for an “software update” and it was fixed. Om [XXX], I drove my Jeep and upon getting less than a mile down the road it sounded like the backend was dragging. They called a tow truck & took it back to the garage & now with the MOPAR Extended warranty they would have to replace the PTU. It was part of the initial recall and it could affect the PTU and the RDM (rear differential). This part took months to be delivered and during that time I had to rent and borrow a car to get back and forth from work for over two months. In May, the service dept. called saying the Jeep was still making the dragging noise and may be the transmission or the Rear Differential, but they’re still looking into it. In June, after re-working the PTU, Blueridge has determined it is the Rear Differential that now needs replaced and when I asked about it all being a part of the MOPAR extended warranty and they told me I needed to call Chrysler Customer Care. I followed up and called and spoke to several people advising that the dealership would have to call MOPAR warranty. Today, 7/7/25, I spoke with Blueridge again and they are saying the Recall was only for an update. I referred to the details of the initial 45A recall that specifically says that if the update is not complete, it would lead to problems with the PTU & the rear differential. vehicle losing power even when on. Does not accelerate in drive or reverse. My issue is the dealer found corroded wires, but when did they not say that the last time it was in which was 3 months ago. They also all of sudden tell me my battery does not fit my Jeep so they needed to replace to new battery in order to be able s add mf diagnose. All this makes no sense.
I was driving and was at a residential stop sign and out of no where my vehicle just shuts off on me. At first I thought it was the on and off gas conserver device but I realized that wasn’t the issue when it wouldn’t turn on anymore and all the vehicles behind me started honking and then proceeded to go around me. This lady walking her dog even shouted what the hell was wrong with me thinking I was purposely stopping traffic. Then this nice guy came out of nowhere to help me move my vehicle out the way from ongoing traffic. He was nice enough to try and give my car some battery from his vehicle thinking that might be the problem and nothing would make my car turn on not even the starter would want to start. So I had no choice but to call a tow truck to transport my vehicle to a mechanic.
My cars PTU is broken and multiple similar cars have PTU recall yet my vin number is not part of recall.
The car shuts off while driving
March 12th pulled in my drive way and put jeep in park took foot off break and jeep cut off. Also still having the issues where the gears will say to put car in P then it will switch to N, I will put in P then back to D or R and it works fine. I reported this several months ago also and since then it has done it about 3 or 4 more times but no stored messages or check engine light comes on.
I have had my jeep since 2020, in September 2024 my "Service Transmission" notification displayed on the jeep. I took it a Jiffy Lube for a transmission service in which aftermarket fluid was put in the transmission and the filters were not replaced. The "Service Transmission" notification came back on in November, was taken into a mechanic that confirmed the Transmission Temperature Sensor had gone bad. The open recalls were repaired by a Jeep Dealership following the issues due to the recalls potentially having fixes for the "Service Transmission errors". Following that mechanic, it was taken to a dealership that diagnosed the Temperature Sensor and replaced the sensor and serviced the transmission. During the test drive, they noticed the transmission was jumping. After looking into it, they discovered that the transmission wasn't firing correctly. My friends with similar jeep transmissions, if not the same, are experiencing the same exact issues with the temperature sensor and transmission failures. There were no accidents reported, just issues directly related to the transmission.
4WD unavailable light popped up. Took it to a local shop. They said the code is for the PTU. It controls the gear the vehicle is in. The car can go into neutral at anytime including while driving. Many other Jeep Cherokees have recalls for the same issue. It is a safety hazard and I am afraid to drive it due to my safety and the safety of others.
PTU failed. Other 2016 jeeps were recalled however this Jeep was not. Service 4WD light came on and the cars 4WD is not functioning
I just bought this used car and just drove around town. It has 101,724 miles and it smells like something burning when I start it up and when I drive it. I know it's coming from somewhere under the hood. I'm paying 9500.00 for this car and already have burnt smell.
This morning i heard about the recall of 63,000 jeeps from 2017-2019 for the power failure in the PTU. I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk and i have experienced the same EXACT issue! I currently have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I'm the original owner. This Saturday, January 25th, I am turning it in for the PTU to be replaced. This will be my 2nd PTU replacement. . I was told that this 2nd PTU has a different Part Number than the OEM, or the last one. Thus making it slightly designed differently (i dont know the factual of this statement). *** In the last year, and mostly during warmer months, I have experienced MULTIPLE complete power failures of my Jeep. Anywhere from driving, and/or slow parking. it has even happended at times when taking an off ramp from the highway! I have had other people in the Jeep when this has happened. I was told that I have a loose battery terminal connection. So I went out and purchased the Battery Post Shims to increase the posts thickness on the battery. This did not resolve the problem. Since June 2024 I have been on MOPAR's waiting list for this replacment PTU and I finally received it a couple weeks ago. It is now winter and for some reason the power failure does not happen, but there is a consistent clicking in the front end. Not thinking it was the PTU because it has been replaced already, I thought it was the CV Joint so I bought that part. When i got to the dealership to have the work completed, they informed me that it is NOT the CV Joint, but definitely the PTU. So that is how I have been on the waiting list since June 2024. Jeep lost power several times and at other times would say to shift to park. Same as the most recent recall but 2016 is not included currently.
Started hesitating and did it at random times. I had a tune up done and it continued. I thought it was the transmission and took it to the transmission shop and they didn’t find anything wrong with the transmission. Started losing power and hesitation became worse while in traffic. Now it’s hesitating while stopped at the traffic light and not accelerating when taking off from a complete stop and not accelerating while merging. I brought it to the dealership in Lakeport, Ca. 95453. When I brought it to them the start stop warning lights were lit up on the dash. The start stop feature is creating the problem. I’m being told by the dealership that they can’t disengage the start stop feature. This is a safety hazard and I’m concerned it’s going to create engine problems. Apparently it’s a nationwide issue. The start stop feature needs to be recalled and fixed.
Cracked windshield. No visible impact mark. Parked car at home and when came back out there was small crack coming from bottom driver side going up. Later on when actually driving the vehicle the crack randomly started getting bigger and went further up and then split to the side until reached edge of windshield.
2 WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING MY JEEP AND STOPPED FOR A TRAIN. THE JEEP SUDDENLY CUT OFF. I PUT IT IN PARK AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. AFTER THE TRAIN PASSED, I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET TO THE NEXT STOP SIGN AND IT CUT OFF AGAIN. IT RESTARTED, BUT I HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT FOR ANY DISTANCE SINCE THEN BECAUSE I'M AFRAID IT WILL CUT OFF ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE I'M GOING TO WORK OR ELSEWHERE. ALL MAINTENANCE IS CURRENT AND FLUIDS ARE CORRECT.
While driving the Vehicle the gear attempted to go into 4WD by itself. I pulled over and at that time I could not shift the car into drive or park. I believe the transmission or gear shift is having an issue. No warning lights go on the dashboard and it will stall while driving on the highway which caused an extreme safety hazard.

The jeep has stalled out few times just stops running no reason then starts up after a few minutes very unsafe my son was driving jeep and just died on him middle of the road. Luckily a police crusier helped him off the road. Been in the shop for this nobody can find anything
On two occasions within 5 days while driving the vehicle, (the vehicle was in motion) it suddenly stopped and the would not accelerate making a whining noise as if the car was in Neutral. The dashboard then said to put the car in Park. or Shift to Park. I tried to turn off the vehicle and it didn't immediately want to restart, it was full of gas but sounded like it was empty. I was able to finally turn it on.
While driving the vehicle I encounter a loss of driving power, then the check engine light comes on and the service 4 wheel drive indicator comes on. The loss of power while I'm driving creates an unsafe condition because i am driving on the highway among other vehicles when this occurs. This happens to me at least once per day while i am driving and on one particular day it occurred six times. The problem has not been reproduced or inspected.
The “service 4WD” light came on in my vehicle, and upon taking the vehicle to Faricy Boys, I was informed I need to replace the PTU in my car. After looking into this, this appears to be an extremely common problem in Jeeps. Though my vehicle is not on the current recall list for this issue, I believe it should be.
Jeep completely shut down while driving and cars behind me almost crashed all lights came on would not shift back into gear very scary had to call tow truck. This is the second time .
I was driving and the vehicle cut off , said service shifter and had to put in park , and restart . I was in the middle of traffic and was luckily able to pull over . It started after stuttering a few times . But I’m now scared to drive it .
While driving the vehicle will loose power unexpectedly. Then it will gain power again. It has happened several times and I have taken it to the dealer several times and they have not been able to recreate it. They say there is no error codes that they can find. This problem has occurred while going through intersections and on highways. We have had several miss-incidents because of this problem. Have heard from others this issue is a common problem with the Jeep.

I am not sure what component, system failed or malfunctioned but my vehicle is available to be inspected. My SUV has cut off on me several times while the vehicle is in drive gear and I was driving on the highway. It also cut off on me while I was in motion and turning the vehicle to the right. The vehicle cutting off caused me to run into a curb and I was thankful that there weren't any pedestrians on the sidewalk. My safety is at risk because I never know when the vehicle will cut off while I'm driving. I have taken the vehicle to try to figure out whats wrong with it and why it keeps cutting off without warning. There are no lights on the dash. However when the vehicle cuts off, "Service Shifter" comes on. Once I restart the vehicle the warning light goes off.
Service Shifter Warning. Took to the dealership and was told there was a notice, no recall on the shifter bezel system. They said the shifter bezel harness system is bad and I had to replace it for over $400. If this is a known Jeep wide safety issue why is there no recall?
The shifter causes an error whenever I shift into drive. An alert comes up on the dashboard making the dashboard inaccessible and the PRNDL lights up red. The alert says "service shifter."
I have been trying to get into my dealer for months concerning this recall they continue ton give me the run around and have been no help
No accident but my Jeep Cherokee has a gushing leak - Oil Housing Filter is leaking oil straight into my engine - Auto shop informed me it is extremely dangerous and I cannot drive my car as it could cause my engine to catch fire, I am not without a car. I got quoted $847.70 - higher $800's to fix this. It is shown that there have been past recalls on other jeeps due to this. I have no way to pay for this. Jeep's engine light is on now and won't go over 40 MPH
After getting catalytic recall done my car has had delay and hesitation. The car is extremely hot underneath it and is loud while accelerating and idling. Have taken it back to the original dealership for the issue and they continue to say nothing is wrong.
While I am driving my car feels like it shifts into neutral but I am still in park. no control of car and breaks. Then the dash says "Shift into P then select desired gear". The only was to get the car moving again is to shut it down and restart it. When I do this it makes a loud sound. This very dangerous as I do not have control of the car and it happens without warning. No errors, check engine light or anything. I have scheduled an appointment at the dealership but i cannot get an appointment for about a month.
My Power Train Unit has failed to work properly and needs to be replaced. Several years prior to this occurring, my transmission kept skipping, jumping when I would accelerate from a stop, every time I took my vehicle to the dealership for this problem, it would not happen. They said, unless they personally witness this problem first hand, they could not repair my vehicle. My extended warranty has now expired. I believe the transmission skipping was the beginning of my PTU problem.
When I am driving ( mainly around 40 mph ) my vehicles automatic transmission will out of the clear blue SLAM into gear. This does not happen all the time but many times. I have taken it to the dealership on numerous occasions but because they cannot get the vehicle to do it while they are driving it and it does not throw a code they are unable to find or fix the problem . I have called the Chrysler customer service number many times and have been told the supervisor will call me back but never does. This has been going on for the last 4 years.
The car has been stalling when the fuel level reaches the half point for over a year now. Now it is stalling at any time regardless of the fuel line level. Recalls completed and up to date. Informed it was a software issue. Car still performing the same after recall.
I own a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (VIN [XXX] ) that just had a Service Shifter message and required a shifter replacement due to a faulty shifter. My Jeep was in-service as of October 2015 and it is my opinion that it should have been a part of the S28 recall on the Grand Cherokees. I have requested reimbursement from Jeep and was told it would be denied because it was not under the covered VIN. I requested that the dealership keep the part in order to confirm it was the same defect, but they said it was already destroyed. I feel like Jeep did not do a wide enough recall to cover all vehicles with that defect and would ask for you to look into it and assist me with getting reimbursement for the costs incurred. Car hesitation to accelerate and jerks when driving from a start . Took it to the dealer and they couldn’t get a code from issues. The issue happens sporadically but will be taking car back again to see if they can figure it out after next incident.
The vehicle just cuts off while in the middle of driving and everything shuts off. New battery installed 2 months ago, no loose cables, plenty of gas. Cutting off while driving poses a very bad hazard. The last time it happened the shop that had recently changed my oil two weeks prior said it was due to loose battery cables and it has now been a month since that occurrence took place. Now it's happening again.
My "service 4wd" light continues to come on and the shop said my PTU needs replaced but my VIN number isn't part of the recalls so it's going to cost me several thousand dollars.
For months now I keep having something wrong not sure whats wrong either it’s engine, powertrain. It keeps doing different stuff. First it’s acting like it want to dye like stall out for no reason. Sometimes it loses power like hitting the gas peddle but won’t go engine just fires up. The other day I had issues trying to put into reverse to back up hit the gas and it just accelerated really bad but didn’t move almost like it was stuck in gear. I’ll be driving down road and out of nowhere my car accelerated gears to 3/4 wouldn’t go down when i was going 40 on straight road. Took few minutes to unstick. Whatever is going on seriously needs looked into bc i am worried it’s gonna cause me get hit. This been going on for couple years and i am about ready to trade my Jeep in for different dealer
Blower module, a/c module and yes it’s available anytime. For starters my a/c doesn’t work completely and I have a newborn that cannot be in this vehicle due to that issue. Also with my first encounter with the issue, my car turned off and all the lights came on then turned off and warned that autostart/stop didn’t work, and my emergency brakes didn’t work along with my traction control. The a/c error has be confirmed by a dealer for me, but they said it was rare for a bunch of electronics to go out with it. The vehicle has not been looked yet by a manufacturer dealer due to money being tight. The car stopped working for about 5 minutes with my brother inside the vehicle. The lights flashed on then threw out all those warnings I had mentioned up top.

Sometimes when I mash the gas pedal to pull out from a stop it hesitates and doesn't move, then is sluggish when it does. This has happened often. It's dangerous.
Sometimes when driving a message comes up that says check shifter. I cannot get the message off and have to pull over and restart the car, Sometimes a couple of times before the message goes away. This happens often.
Let's start with my vehicle was first in the shop back in February for a failed brake line. Some how it failed. Then my thermoset unit failed. Not sure why on that either. Then they noticed some other issues were fixed. I got my vehicle back. A few days later my vehicle was back in the shop because my transmission kept doing something causing me to keep getting kicked out of gear causing me to stop in the middle of the intersections which could have caused an accident. I lost my acceleration control and while driving I kept losing traction. Then supposedly fixed it. Then the same day I got it back I had to send it back to dealership due to the transmission kept getting kicked out of gear causing me to get stuck in the middle of an intersection. They finally towed it. Apparantly they need a part which is currently on back order for some unknown reason.
My dash is bubbling up. The topsy the windshield needs replacing.
received message on dashboard service transmission after 22,700 miles and bringing car to delearship where car was purchased and has been serviced I was just informed transmission is out need new transmission. This is my second Jeep at the same dealership with transmission being a faulty one, also with less than 25,000 miles
This is directly copied from the nhsta.gov website in regulars to recall repairs. This is False information. The car has not had the emission recall completed. The item has been on back order since the notice was mailed to me. On first attempt Jeep dealership O Brian in Greenwood Indiana says the part is back ordered. There is a national shortage. They can not complete repair. Refuses to note my account that I contacted them for repair. 14 months when first. 2nd attempt the part is still back ordered and they are un aware of when the part will become available. They are booked 7 months out for repair as the item becomes available: 3rd attempt jeep dealership Washington st Indianapolis. Dealer says. 4-6 months for repair and asks me if I need the vehicle. I said yes it’s my car, my transportation. I’m am offered to leave the car on the lot and they will try to fit it in when they can. They will not offer a car to use while mine is waiting on the lot. 4th attempt still I am told at jeep Greenwood 3-4 months but I can leave the car and they will get to it eventually. I decline. I call FCA October 2022. Inform them that I have been making contact and no one is able to fix the car. I explain the vehicles decline over the past months. I tell them my emission warranty was ending within 200 mil.Abd asked what do I do. They told me to park the car and not use it. They won’t note my acct that I contacted them trying to avoid the end of warranty loss. They won’t pay for rental car while mine is parked to avoid miles as that was there only solution. They would not call the dealerships to force a service appt. Also refuse to tell me the TSB BULLETINS ASSOCIATED WITH MY VIN. I asked them to note all the cars issues I am experiencing. I was told to tell a dealership. I even mentioned the cruise control not disengaging and increasing instead. water leaking in the back on electrical. While driving, when attempting to accelerate, the vehicle dies. Have to pull over, shift into park and attempt to restart. Sometimes restarts quickly, sometimes you have to crank and crank. Also dies if you have to stop suddenly. Example, when someone pulls out in front of you or changes lane/swerves in front of you. Problem was intermittent, in cold weather, when vehicle was cold. Now, it is likely to happen at any time. This creates a dangerous situation, trying to get off of the road when it dies. Check engine light is on, and "lightning bolt" dash light comes on when vehicle stalls. Ran diagnostic - revealed no code.
My "SERVICE SHIFTER" light keeps coming on. I have had it looked at 2 different times before. I have owned the vehicle for almost 2 years, and has done it after the 2nd month of having it.
i have a failed power transfer unit (PTU) 4WD light is on. This should be considered a recall i found that thousands of jeep owners have this same issue
The PTU failed in my 2016 Jeep Cherokee. This was diagnosed when the SVC 4WD light came on in September. The problem code is C14A7-97. From my online research I know this is a persistent problem with Jeeps with model year 2014-2017 resulting in multiple recalls because the problem has resulted in vehicles being disabled and multiple crashes. However, my VIN number was not included in those recalled by Chrysler. I ordered a replacement in early October and was told the part would be ready in 4-6 weeks. It is now two months later and the part is still not available. I’m told that at this point the part won’t be available until January. The vehicle transmission began making noises over the weekend related to the PTU. This is clearly a persistent and extensive safety issue that Chrysler is negligent in addressing. I have also been told by the service department at the dealer that there are 389 other Jeep drivers waiting for this part.
I’ve had this vehicle for a few years now and at the time of purchase the vehicle had 16,000-18,000 miles on it. It’s a 2016 and I believe I purchased the vehicle in 2019 so I’ve had it for about three years now. I didn’t really start to pay any attention to the shaking/shimmy/wobble that the vehicle has until about a year after I purchased it because at first it wasn’t nearly as noticeable as it is today and I had just upgraded from a cheap little Chevy cobalt that was a beater and the jeep was a huge upgrade and improvement from that vehicle causing me to gloss over the problem initially. The problem seems to get worse over time and regardless of me getting new tires, getting them balanced and alignments the same shaking/wobbling/shimmying persists. No issues can be determined that would cause the problem and I am told that the shaking is normal upon reaching higher speeds or that the complaint cannot be replicated. The shaking starts anytime I begin to reach speeds around 45 mph and higher and then seem to stop once reaching speeds around 65 mph . To test further I’ve reached speeds of around 80 mph and again the shaking starts once you get around 70 mph but does not stop shaking when letting off of the accelerator as it does at speeds of 65 mph and lower but instead continues to shake while both pressing the accelerator and letting off of the accelerator becoming worse if you apply the brakes. The shake seems to come from only the front wheels and is violent enough of a shake that it can be visibly witnessed and also felt by looking at the steering wheel and holding onto the steering wheel. Issue persist and has not been resolved. Tires also show uneven and irregular wear on the tread of both front wheels. Front tires need to be replaced more frequently than the rear tires. Rear tires always seem to look almost new while the front tires look as if they weren’t changed at the same time as the rear tires. Not consistent with what would be considered normal
Shortly after I purchased my vehicle in 2020 I had a service shifter come on the dash with all the lights illuminated on bezel. I took it to the dealership and it was giving codes to suggest the the shifter bezel and wiring needed to be replaced this was done approximately 07/2021. Since then I have had no other issues with it until this morning it came back on. I have looked this up and a lot of Jeep owners experience this issue. It is apparent that there is a manufacture issues or issue that I feel Jeep is responsible for and needs to fix. With this involving the shifter/transmission there is an obvious safety concern. Car has been having issues shifting gears when going uphill/downhill for a few months, only 88k miles never wrecked, during drive a "Service shifter" alert came on and all drive/park/reverse lights lit up, screen could not be removed, car repeatedly had issues getting rpms while pressing gas. Took to a repair shop and they claimed it needed a transmission liquid flush or brake rotors but neither issues coorelate. This seems to be a frequent issue going on with other jeeps. Problem fixed itself after stopping and turning off car and turning back on but still has issues getting stuck in certain gears.
I have owned my 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited for a little over two years. I have had it to a dealership twice now for the service shifter light coming on. The first time it was covered under warranty, the second time it was covered by the dealership because it was only a couple months later. It is now coming back on again and the dealership said that if it happened again I would have to pay for it the next time.
I brought in my vehicle for the power train update recall and it triggered my shifter light to come on which now they are saying is the shifter bezel and harness and I have to pay out of pocket for. It was not on prior to the recall software update for the power train
The SVC 4WD (service 4WD drive ) light came on in my 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep dealership performed diagnosis and the drivetrain control module (DTCM) stored C14A7-97-PUT motor and the component or system operation is obstructed or blocked. They attempted to update the software of the DTCM and it is up to date. The condition persists and their further testing indicates that the internal power transfer unit (PTU) has failed and the vehicle is stuck in 4WD. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the local jeep dealership, which was on 8/12/2022. The warning message began the week of August 1st and I scheduled the first available service appointment. After some initial research, Jeep had a recall of the PTU for my model year back in 2020. For 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokees where the PTU has not been previously replaced, the auto maker’s recall number is W47 and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s recall campaign number is 20V343. However, when I checked my VIN number, it stated that I had 0 outstanding recalls against it. It is my understanding that if the power transfer unit (PTU) fails to engage with the transmission, the Cherokee could lose all power while being driven which could result in a crash or injuries.
1. UNKNOWN component/system failure. It is available for inspection on request. 2. My vehicle will randomly flash an error message while driving "Shift to park and then select desired gear." As this error message is displayed, the engine stops while driving. The car is seemingly forced into neutral. Sometimes it will start again immediately. Sometimes it takes several minutes. It happens completely randomly. It is incredibly dangerous, especially when driving on the highway. I have been lucky that no one has crashed into me yet. 3. I have not had my own vehicle checked for this issues as I am not confident that the solution will be found. I have found hundreds of other Jeep owners (various years/models) in online forums complaining about the same issue. The dealerships and service centers have not been able to find a fix, or even identify what the problem is. 4. No 5. Warning message reads something like: "Shift to park and then select desired gear." This has been appearing randomly while driving. This is an obvious issue with the Jeeps that I am certain Chrysler must be aware of. I have spent a lot of money on this car, and I am terrified to drive my young children to daycare. I am terrified to drive to work. I need this issue investigated, and I need a resolution. Hundreds, if not thousands, of Jeep owners need a resolution.
Vehicle stalled out while driving
4WD service light on. Diagnostic and servicing reveals blocked PTU. There is a recall for it, but it’s VIN specific and my Jeep is not covered.
No messages were displayed when any issues occured. The back hatch stops working randomly. Whether your trying to open or close the back hatch, it will not operate by any of the interior push buttons or by using the key fob. I have to manually pull the hatch open &/or closed. I had a technician see this happen as well. I've had numerous times where my Jeep will be shifting & it lags a little bit and then causes a loud bang & jolt when it shifts to the next gear. I only drive approximately 6,000 miles/year. Any resolution to these issues would be greatly appreciated, Amy
Our jeep started displaying and error stating "vehicle needs to be stopped to shift" and after this error would display the engine would cut off. We took it to the dealership and we were told that the shifter bezel needed to be replaced. It was replaced in March. We we driving our car again on 5/8/22 and error code said "service shifter now" so we went back to the dealership and they are saying the shifter needs replaced a second time.
Car drives when it wants, stops when it wants, all lights on dash come on
The svc 4wd light would come on mostly in the cold weather then would go away. every time we had maintenance and mentioned it to the dealership we were told if it was not on while in the shop they could not do anything for it. I was driving and making a left hand turn when the svc 4wd and check engine light came on and the drive train lost power. I was luckily going down hill so I was able to coast and pull over.The engine and the electronics was still in but would not drive. After pulling over I turned the car off and back on and the car worked ok. We had an appointment for the dealer and we were informed the PTU needed to be replaced. Upon looking it up online this part has been recalled on the same make model and year as my vehicle but not my specific vin #.
Driving down the highway the service shifter just pops up
I purchased this jeep in 2018, the service shifter light came on the car shutdown in the middle of the road while my daughter was driving she was able to get into a parking lot. We had the bezel and wiring harness replaced in January 2019, right after this happened. I now have the jeep and the shifter service light will randomly come on along with the service transmission light. When this happens the transmission will not engage and I have to make my way to the side of the road and put it in park and then the transmission will engage again.
I purchased my 2016 Jeep Cherokee in 2018 and within 3 months my service shifter light came on. I had it fixed by the dealership. 6 months later it happened again and I was told it was most likely a faulty part used the first time. Since then I have had the shifter console and wiring inside replaced a total of 4 more times, luckily up until this point was covered under my extended warranty. However my warranty expires in January of 2022 and the service shift light just came on again for what will now be the 7th time. Once my warranty is over, I will not be able to cover the $500 each time twice a year to have it fixed. I have seem dozens and dozens of people report on this issue and nothing has been done. It has also caused my transmission to slip or multiple occasions as well as hesitate when accelerating.
service shifter light went on and off for about a month. then one day went over a speed bump. and ever since then the message doesnt go away. ive cleared the codes had it flashed change fuses. and nothing. EVeryone has the same complaints about it and jeep dealerships dont take it serious. its a problem when i can see the speedometer or fuel range. or any other lights or warnings becuase that message wont go away.
Jeep has a system in the vehicle through Mopar that allows the owner to use an app to remote start the vehicle, track where the vehicle is located, track maintenance issues. This system also allows the driver to talk to text which is a safety feature of the vehicle. Cellular providers are no longer going to support the 3G chip in the vehicle and Jeep states they are unable to update a single chip in the vehicle hence disabling this safety feature. This is a HUGE concern.
4wheel drive light came on. Said it was a power transfer unit problem. It has been recalled but doesn’t show for my car. It will cost me o ver $2000 and it has been recalled. I need help to have this repair covered.
This car has been stopping in the middle of the road basically since I got it. I bring it in and it breaks down over and over. Most recently in front of my house on a very busy street with 18 wheelers. I do not feel safe in this vehicle.
Transfer case is not working it says blockage I see alot of of recalls for this piece and I want want to report it for my car as faulty aswell. also now the timing change has to be replaced. This jeep has had multiple issues going on since I have had it for almost 3 years it will be three years in Feb 2022
Service shifter light will come on when I ship from PRND and sometimes like when I am in a car wash in Nuetral I can't get it to shift
*SERVICE SHIFTER POP UP* I've had my 2016 Jeep Cherokee for about 4 years and every few months it pops up with SERVICE SHIFTER on my dash and the shifter lights up. I have talked to my local Jeep dealership, where I purchased this vehicle, and they brushed it off. After reading forums, this can be a HUGE safety hazard and could cause an accident or even worse, kill somebody!! Jeep should be held responsible and this should be considered a recall because alot of people have complained about this SERVICE SHIFTER popup. At times, I am scared to drive my vehicle after these episodes happen because I fear I am going to get into a car accident.
I had my car parked in a public parking garage for a few hours, and it suddenly caught on fire on the backside of the car. There were no warning lights or anything like that before hand. The whole back of the car is burned and the cars on either side of me were damaged as well. The fire department had to come put the fire out. Shifter service light came on, made an appointment with the dealer, they did a diagnostic test, said battery was bad and said he really didn't think the shifter needed replacing. The battery was replaced and about 6 weeks later, the light came on again, and after reading some forums, it looks like this is a rather common probably with jeeps, so why is this not a recall? It also seems like the problem doesn't even go away after having the shifter kit replaced.
I keep getting a "shifter service" when I start my vehicle and even when I stop my vehicle. I have to turn the car on and then back on sometimes twice before it will stop. This started about 3 years after I bought the car and has been getting worse every since. I feel this is a safety issue because you cannot see the odometer when driving and have know idead how fast your might be going. You do not always have a place to pull over to turn your car off and back on. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL! For the past couple of weeks I’ve been noticing the car does not react when I press the gas… like there’s a delay In catching speed.., like stalling, last night the “service shifter” light came on and all the PRN&D lights are on and I’m scared for my kids and my safety.
The shifter lights blink and turn red while at a stop light. The car would not run. I had to turn off and on again. This happened several times. Sometimes the shifter lights blink at night and the battery gets drained.

The "service shifter" warning come on. And all of the lights go on on the shifter for example Park Neutral, Drive. I had this problem a couple of years ago and the dealer replaced the shifter assembly and harness. Now the same problem is happening. After shutting off the engine the message disperses but comes back on after a few minutes. Now I'm afraid that I'll have to pay for the repair because the car has 48,000 miles on it and out of warranty. Is there a recall on this problem?

I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR AND COULD NOT GET OFF THE EXPRESSWAY. AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES OF ME PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PETAL IT FINALLY WORKED. I IMMEDIATELY GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY. ON THE WAY HOME EVERY TIME I WOULD STOP THE SAME THING WOULD OCCUR, BUT THIS TIME I WOULD TURN OFF AND ON THE VEHICLE AND IT SEEMED TO RESET AND WORK AGAIN. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP WERE THEY SAID IT WAS TCM WHICH THEY UPDATED/RESET, BUT THEY ALSO TOLD ME THIS WOULD HAVE TO BE DONE EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS BECAUSE CHYSLER DOES UPDATES AND UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVE TO PAY THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS UPDATED FOR US OR WE WILL HAVE ISSUES. WELL I HAD EVERYTHING UPDATED THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS WITH MY VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN THE "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" LIGHT REAPPEARED. NOW THEY ARE SAYING IT IS THE TCM THAT NEEDS TO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 58,470 MILES, THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE UPDATES AND THAT THE VIN NUMBER IS NOT ON THE LIST TO HAVE THESE ISSUES FIXED BY CHYSLER. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REPLACED, WAS AFTER HAVING THE JEEP FOR 3 MONTHS, THEN HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, HAD ASSEMBLY REPLACED A SECOND TIME, AND IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR THE 3RD TIME TO HAVE IT REPLACED AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION CHECKED DUE TO IT SLIPPING AND GETTING STUCK IN GEARS. THE LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP LOOKED UP THE CODE P0887 (TCM RELAY), BUT STATED THAT HE WOULD NOT WORK ON IT BECAUSE OTHER 2016 JEEP CHEROKEES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM CONTINUE COMING BACK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, EVEN AFTER GOING SO FAR AS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND RELAY. HE RESET THE CODE, BUT THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED A DAY LATER AT FREEWAY SPEEDS (65MPH) AND I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED AS I STALLED. THE VEHICLE SHIFTS OCCASIONALLY IMMEDIATELY INTO 2ND GEAR FROM A STOP AND THEN DRAGS IT OUT AND CLUNKS INTO 3RD GEAR CAUSING UNTIMELY SHIFTING. LITHIA JEEP AND PELLETIER JEEP BOTH DID SOFTWARE UPDATES WITH MARGINAL IMPROVEMENT OR MADE IT WORSE. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION UP SHIFTS TO SOON OFTEN FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. VEHICLE AT TIMES HAS MIND OF ITS OWN FOR TRANSMISSION NEVER REALLY KNOWING WHAT TO MAKING NOT VERY PREDICTABLE AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE SPEED CONTROL IS DANGEROUS AND A NIGHTMARE. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT THE TIME AND HAD TO GO OUT IN TRAFFIC, WITH CARS BEEPING, YELLING AND USING RUDE HAND GESTURES AT HER SO SHE COULD PUT THE HOOD UP. THIS CAR IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY, IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE BCM, THAT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. WE ARE NOW WITHOUT A CAR BUT I'D RATHER NO CAR THEN HAVE HER KILLED WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE THIS JEEP. MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS DRIVING THIS DANGEROUS CAR. I HAVE SEEN THE FORUMS AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS JEEP, IT NEEDS A RECALL. I TOOK TO DEALERSHIP THEY WEREN'T SURE WHY ALL CODES WERE GOING OFF BUT CHECKED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND RESET THE LIGHT. A MONTH LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS TIME AT 65MPH DURING A SNOWFALL ON THE HIGHWAY BUT THIS TIME THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP I MANAGED TO BRAKE AND STOP ON HIGHWAY WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON AGAIN DISCONNECTED BATTERY AND TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER SO AT A COST OF NEARLY $2300 I DID. NO PROBLEMS AFTER THAT UNTIL IT WAS RAINING ONE DAY AND BOOM INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS UP AGAIN, THANKFULLY THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT LOCK AGAIN. I TAKE IT BACK AND THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT BUT RESET THE LIGHT. NOW I CANT DRIVE MY JEEP WHEN IT RAINS FOR FEAR OF MORE ISSUES. FAST FORWARD 3 MONTHS TO TODAY, I AM ABOUT A MILE FROM MY HOME AND THE DASH LIGHTS UP SAYING SERVICE SHIFTER REQUIRED. I STARTED UP THE IGNITION AND HEADED ON MY WAY OFF, WITHIN 5 MINS OF MY RIDE, I HEARD A BEEP. LOOKED AT THE DASH AND SAW THE SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE AGAIN SO I DROVE OFF INTO A PARKING LOT TO CHECK OUT THE ISSUE. I STOPPED AND WENT INTO PARK. THE RED INDICATORS WERE STILL APPARENT. I PURCHASED A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE AND SINCE DAY ONE THE START/STOP FEATURE NEVER HAVE WORKED PROPERLY AND IT WASN'T UNTIL RECENTLY THAT, I WAS TOLD BY MY CURRENT DEALER THAT, IT IS THE BACKUP BATTERY AND THAT JEEP HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND SUPPOSEDLY JEEP IS LOOKING FOR ANOTHER MANUFACTURER BUT, I FEEL JEEP ALWAYS KNEW THIS AND DID NOT INFORM THE DEALERS AND CONSUMERS. THIS IS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 2 YEARS NOW AND THE JEEP REPRESENTATIVE HAVE SAID TO ME THAT, SHE HAVE SOME PEOPLE ON HER LIST AND I AM NOT ONE OF THEM AND AT THE TIME OF THIS REPORT/COMPLAIN, I HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION, UPDATE EITHER FROM THE DEALER OR JEEP. IF OTHER CONSUMERS JEEP OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THEN; WHY JEEP FAIL TO REPORT THE SITUATION AS A "RECALL"? THE START/STOP AND BACKUP BATTERY IS NOT A CRITICAL PROBLEM THAT MIGHT STOP THE CAR FROM FUNCTIONING BUT, IF I DECIDE TO SELL OR GIVE THE CAR ON TRADE-IN PEOPLE ARE GOING TO ASK ME ABOUT IT AND I'M AFRAID I MIGHT LOSE MONEY/VALUE BECAUSE OF THE FEATURE NOT WORKING.
AT 61,000 MILES MY JEEP STARTED HAVING A STRONG FUEL SMELL IN THE CABIN AFTER COMING TO A STOP WITH THE AUTO-START DIS-ENGAGED. READING ONLINE, MANY PEOPLE ON THE FORUMS HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES WITH CHEROKEES SINCE THE EARLY 2000'S WITH NO KNOWN MALFUNCTION TO FIX. THE EXHAUST SMELL HAS CAUSED HEADACHES IN THE LAST WEEK.

I WENT TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. FINALLY THE DEALER FIGURED OUT THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT ONLY 15K MILES. AT APPROXIMATELY 25K MILES, I WAS HEARING A WHISTLING SOUND ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT END WHEN CRUISING AT APROX. 20MHP OR LESS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER MULT. TIMES AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. THE DEALER REPLACED A REAR AXEL BOOT FOR THE SHAFT THAT WAS THROWING GREASE, THINKING THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT IT DID NOT. I HEARD THE WHISTLING ONCE AGAIN BEFORE EVEN LEAVING THE LOT. THE DEALER FINALLY FIGURED OUT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT END BEARING WAS BAD AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SHAFT AXLE. I HAVE HAD APPROX 4 TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPDATES DONE SINCE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATES THIS WOULD NEED TO BE PURCHASED FOR APPROX $140 EACH TIME AFTER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRES FOR THE JEEP. KEEP IN MIND MY JEEP HAS ONLY 33K MILES ON IT WAS THIS POINT. NOW I HAVE A JEEP THAT HAS A PANORAMIC SUNROOF THAT MAKES NOISE AS WELL WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND POTHOLES AND THE DEALER STATES THEY DO NOT HEAR ANYTHING. I HAVE A TIRE ALIGNMENT DONE ON THE JEEP AT 25K MILES FOR $120. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER WITH 32K MILES ON IT TO HAVE THE SUNROOF CHECKED OUT AND THEY ARE TELLING ME I NEED ANOTHER ALIGNMENT. SO THE ALIGNMENT HAS GONE OUT AGAIN IN LESS THAN 10K MILES? THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THIS JEEP SINCE DAY ONE AND EVERY OTHER JEEP I HAVE OWNED IN THE PAST.

THEN IT SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING, IT WILL DO THIS 4-5 TIMES BEFORE IT STARTS RUNNING OK. AFTER IT DIES, THE TRANSMISSON FEELS LIKE IT IS JUMPING/JERKING AND THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY DING LIKE IT DOES WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID IS LOW BUT NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THE SCREEN OR IN THE MESSAGES. IT HAS DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, WITH THE STERRING LOCKING UP AND THE THROTTLE LOSING POWER, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT.

COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE TURNING, COMING AROUND TURN, INDICATOR WILL DING THEN SUDDENLY STEERING STIFFENS, NO POWER FROM GAS PEDAL, AND CAR SLOWS TO STOP. ONCE STOPPED, MESSAGE SCREEN DISPLAYS 'SHIFT CAR TO P THEN TO DESIRED GEAR' I THEN HAVE TO SHIFT CAR TO PARK AND RESTART (SOMETIMES TAKING 3 OR 4 ATTEMPTS). THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO HIGHWAY (COMING AROUND BEND OF ON RAMP) LUCKILY THERE WAS A LARGE SHOULDER AND LITTLE TRAFFIC TO PULL OVER SAFELY. THIS POSES AN IMMEDIATE RISK OF SAFETY OF NOT ONLY MYSELF, BUT PASSENGERS AND OTHER VEHICLES. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, HIGHWAY, OR DANGEROUS ROAD CONDITIONS (LOW VISIBILITY, SLICK SURFACE, ETC) AND ACCIDENT WILL OCCUR. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE.

STILL WAITING FOR THE CALL FROM THE SHOP WITH A DATE TO REPLACE THE HARNESS.

I CALLED JEEP AND THEY TRIED TO WALK ME THROUGH A RESET, WHICH DID NOT WORK. AAA CAME OUT TO TRY TO ASSIST. THEY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, TRIED JUMPING THE VEHICLE, AND PERFORMED THE RESET AS WELL. NONE OF THIS WORKED. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AM STILL WAITING ON DIAGNOSTICS TO TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT AND HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO FIX.

THE STEERING FAILS, THE BRAKES FAIL AND THE VEHICLE ROLLS TO A STOP. OFTEN, IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES AND ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE ENGINE. I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE OIL WAS LOW. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO SHUT OFF AND WITH NO CORRELATION TO TIME FRAME AFTER HAVING THE OIL REPLACED, TIME IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN, OR DURATION OF THE TRIP. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO THE PERSON OPERATING THE VEHICLE AND TO OTHERS ON THE ROAD. JEEP AND THE DEALERSHIP HAVE IGNORED THE PROBLEM AND I HAVE EVEN BEEN TOLD BY JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT "THE ENGINE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED" WHICH MEANS THAT IT WILL SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING TO PROTECT THE ENGINE, NOT THOSE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO FIX OR ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE, REFUSED TO VOID THE LEASE AND REFUSED TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE.

JEEP WOBBLE. I WAS TOWING MY VEHICLE BEHIND MY MOTOR HOME. I HAD TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 300 MILES WITHOUT PROBLEMS. NEAR THE END OF MY TRIP I MADE A RIGHT TURN. JUST AFTER MAKING THE TURN I FELT A VIOLENT SHAKING. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT LOW SPEED ESTIMATED TO BE 20 TO 25 MILE PER HOUR. I LOOKED INTO THE REAR CAMERA AND WAS ABLE TO SEE THE VEHICLE OSCILLATING FROM SIDE TO SIDE.I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO A STOP TO GET THE SHAKING TO STOP. SINCE I WAS BLOCKING TRAFFIC I CONTINUED ON TO A SAFE PLACE. AFTER PROCEEDING ABOUT A MILE TO MY DESTINATION, I HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP CONCERNING THE ISSUE. THEY STATED THAT IT WAS ON ME TO BUY A WIRING KIT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON DECEMBER 31, 2017, I TOLD THE DEALER THAT I WAS IN THE MARKET FOR A VEHICLE FOR TOWING. THEY DID NOT HAVE ONE WITH THE EQUIPMENT NECESSARY FOR TOWING IN STOCK BUT STATED THEY COULD GET ONE FROM LOUISVILLE KY. I AGREED TO HAVE GET IT. IN SHORT I PURCHASE A VEHICLE THAT THE DEALERSHIP SAID WAS READY FOR TOWING. AT NOW TIME DURING THE SALES PROCESS OR AFTER WAS I EVER NOTIFIED A A WIRING PACKAGE REQUIREMENT. I JUST LEARNED OF IT IN RECENT DAYS WHEN I HAD IT IN THE SHOP. I FEEL THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD PAY FOR THE FIX AND NOT ME AS THE CONSUMER BASED ON THEIR REPRESENTATION THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY FOR TOWING.

SINCE MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT, 11048717 I WAS DENIED A BUY BACK BY FCA, LLC VIA FIRST CLASS MAIL STATING I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE UNDER GA LEMON LAW REGARDLESS OF IT BEING OUT OF SERVICE MORE THAN 30 DAYS. SINCE THIS LETTER THE VEHICLE HAS DIED 3 TIMES WHILE IN MOTION AND CONTINUES TO SKIP ALONG WITH A DECREASE IN RPMS WHILE IDLING (OBSERVED MY DEALERSHIP SERVICE). I ALSO HAD SMOKE AND A STRONG ODOR COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WITH NO REASON AS TO WHY. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE HAS NOT BEEN A TOTAL RECALL SINCE IT IS SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING FOR SO MANY PEOPLE.

I GLIDED TO A STOP AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MAKE SOME PHONE CALLS. THERE WAS A TECH SERVICE BULLETIN "TO REPROGRAM TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WITH UPDATED SOFTWARE". I FEEL THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND IT SHOULD BE A RECALL, NOT JUST A TECH SERVICE BULLETIN. THE DEALER WAS EXCELLENT IN HANDLING THIS SITUATION, BUT I'D LIKE TO SEE THIS PROBLEM TURN INTO A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE TROUBLE CODE THEY FOUND IS "P088700 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CIRCUIT". THANK YOU.

THE DRIVE ABILITY OF THIS VEHICLE IS UNAFFECTED, HOW EVER SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS. THIS FIRST OCCURRED WHEN BACKING FROM MY DRIVEWAY, I SHIFTED FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE DINGED, AND THE LIGHT APPEARED ON MY DASH. NOW IT WILL RANDOMLY DO IT, DOESN'T MATTER WHEN OR WHERE, DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, OR SIMPLY TURNING ON THE VEHICLE.

WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN MOBILE, AL THIS MORNING AND THEY ARE SAYING MY WARRANTY FOR THIS IS UP. FIRST THE CAR KEPT REPORTING THAT MY FRONT LEFT TIRE WAS LOW AND EVEN AFTER I CHECKED THE PRESSURE, IT CONTINUED TO DO SO. IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS FOR IT TO STOP. NOW I HAVE A 'SERVICE SHIFTER' ERROR AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON MY SHIFTER ARE ON. I HEAR A HIGH-PITCHED ELECTRONIC SOUND WHEN I SHIFT INTO DRIVE. I HAVE READ SEVERAL FORUMS AND THERE ARE CONSUMERS REPORTING THAT WHEN THAT HAPPENED TO THEM, THEIR WHEELS LOCKED UP AND THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED. A FEW OF THE CARS WERE TOTALED! I AM GOING TO CALL THE DEALER IN THE MORNING. APPARENTLY THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM HAS NOT HAPPENED ENOUGH FOR JEEP/CHRYSLER TO CONSIDER A RECALL. THE CAR DOES TURN BACK ON SO I CONTINUE ON MY WAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS EVERY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN MOTION THE LIGHTS FLICKER AND THEN IT SHUTS OFF.

THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO REPLICATE WATER COMING IN FROM RAIN BUT HAS NOT CHECKED AC CONDENSATION OR OTHER MEANS OF ENTRY THAT WE KNOW OF. WATER DOES APPEAR TO SHOW UP FASTER DURING PERIODS OF HOT EATHER AND AC USAGE. PLEASE NOTE - I HAVE PICTURES OF MOLD GROWING RAPIDLY ON THE CARPET UNDER THE FLOOR MATS.

WHEN DRIVING IN TOWN AT A SLOW SPEED THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ERATICALLY AND PAUSES DURING THE SPEED SHIFT TRYING TO EVALUATE WHICH GEAR IT NEEDS TO BE IN. SO EXTREME THAT I WAS ALMOST HIT TRYING TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE CUSTOMER ASSIST, THE NSDC AND THE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE. CHRYSLER JUST KEEPS STATING THAT THE TRANSMISSION "WORKS AS DESIGNED". I HAVE EVEN HAD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT A LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP THAT IT IS A MASSIVE PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLES ARE ALWAYS COMING IN FOR SERVICE DUE TO THIS. THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED AN "UPGRADE" TO THE SYSTEM WHICH THEY THINK WILL IMPROVE THE SHIFTING, BUT IT HAS NOT WORKED. I NEED SOMEONE TO TAKE THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY AND INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. IT IS AN ISSUE AND UNFORTUNATELY THE PREVIOUS HOMEOWNERS I HAVE SPOKEN WITH JUST TRADED THEM IN AND NEVER COMPLAINED. PLEASE, PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. JUST BECAUSE CHRYSLER SAYS IT IS "PERFORMING AS DESIGNED" DOES NOT MEAN IT IS PERFORMING SAFELY.
RETURNING HOME FROM 1ST OIL CHANGE SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE (2016 JEEP CHEROKEE SPORT) 3 MONTHS PRIOR, OWNER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM HOOD IMMEDIATELY UPON PARKING VEHICLE AT RESIDENCE. AS SOON AS OWNER EXITED VEHICLE, OWNER NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM BOTTOM OF ENGINE. OWNER CALLED 911. THREE MINUTES LATER WHEN EMERGENCY VEHICLES ARRIVED, CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY FIRE INVESTIGATOR AND INSURANCE COMPANY.

IN THE INSTANCE IN QUESTION, VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN HOME GARAGE, FOB WAS IN POCKET OF OWNER INSIDE THE HOME. OWNER WALKED INTO GARAGE TO FIND VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. REMOTE START FEATURE OF FOB CANNOT BE DISABLED.

OUR TWO VEHICLES COLLIDED - BUMPER-TO-BUMPER, AT A SLOW SPEED (PROBABLY 2-3 MPH). VERY MINOR DAMAGE RESULTED - THE REFLECTOR ON MY REAR BUMPER WAS BROKEN. I AM SURPRISED THAT MY SAFETY WARNING SYSTEM DID NOT ACTIVATE TO ALERT ME TO THE IMPENDING COLLISION. THIS SYSTEM VERY RELIABLY ACTIVATES IF I'M BACKING UP AND CROSS TRAFFIC IS NEAR, OR IF I'M APPROACHING ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE PARALLEL PARKING. I'M WONDERING IF THIS SYSTEM HAS A "BLIND SPOT" THAT PREVENTED IT FROM WORKING IN THE CASE OF YESTERDAY'S COLLISION.

THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED ON JUNE 30, 2016. WE WENT ON VACATION JULY 18, 2016 IN OUR NEW VEHICLE. AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE THIS CAR WAS JUST 32 DAYS OLD. WE PULLED INTO A LOVE'S TRUCK STOP TO REFUEL THE CAR. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND I HAD BEGUN REFUELING THE CAR. SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. UPON OPENING THE HOOD THERE WAS FIRE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COMING UP BOTH SIDES. USING WATER AND A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WE WERE ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST JEEP DEALER. CHRYSLER IS TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NUMEROUS CASES SITED WITH ENGINE FIRES ON JEEP VEHICLES. THEY HAVE REFUSED A DIRECTIVE FROM NHTSB TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. WITH OTHER PEOPLE ALSO REFUELING CARS RIGHT NEXT TO US, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR CATASTROPHIC EVENT. ALL PRINTED AND ON-LINE BROCHURES CLEARLY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE FLAT TOWED. I PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THE UPGRADED DRIVETRAIN AND WAITED 8 WEEKS FOR DELIVERY ONLY TO BE ADVISED A FEW MONTHS LATER BY FCA THAT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER TOWABLE AS PURCHASED. IF THE CUSTOMER DESIRES TO TOW THE VEHICLE THEN THE CUSTOMER CAN PURCHASE A NEWLY RELEASED WIRING KIT AND PAY A DEALER TO INSTALL IT. ADDITIONALLY, THE CUSTOMER SHOULD UPGRADE THEIR RV TOW PACKAGE TO INCLUDE A MEANS FOR CHARGING THE CHEROKEE'S BATTERY WHILE BEING TOWED. CHRYSLER SAYS THAT THEY DEEM THIS REQUIRED WIRING KIT AS A 'CUSTOMER SATISFACTION' ACTION AND THAT THEREFORE, THE CUSTOMER HAS TO PAY FOR IT. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT CHRYSLER / FCA CAN GET AWAY WITH SELLING A VEHICLE AS 'TOWABLE' AND THEN SUBSEQUENTLY REQUIRE THE CUSTOMER TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THEIR MISTAKE? IF THE CUSTOMER CHOOSES TO NOT ADD THIS FIX THEN IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THEY DO NO FLAT TOW. THE CONSEQUENCE OF FLAT TOWING WITHOUT THIS FIX IS A POSSIBLE SEVERE WOBBLE WHICH CAN DAMAGE THE VEHICLE AND RV. IT COULD ALSO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF THE SITUATION GETS OUT OF CONTROL. THE RECALL CENTER SENT OUT A NOTIFICATION OF THE ISSUE TO CUSTOMERS, BUT THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERING THIS A RECALL ISSUE. INSTEAD, THEY ARE ADVISING CUSTOMERS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE AND TO DEAL WITH IT ON THEIR OWN.
