While driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and shut off. There was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the vehicle while turning. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer several times, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact reached out to Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Scottsdale (3800 N 89th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85251); but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the check engine warning light illuminated was due to an issue with the PTU. The manufacturer was contacted and offered a possible rental. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

on 11/1/25 we were driving our Jeep and it malfunctioned while at a stop light. We heard a loud "clunk" and the car would barely go and if we tried to put in park, it would continue to roll. We were on top of a hill so thankfully we didnt roll back or into traffic. We could not drive the car and had to have it towed since it was not safe to drive. Our Jeep is at an authorized Jeep dealer since 11/3/25 and we were told the issue was a power transfer unit that would be covered on the recall but the part was on backorder until 12/2. Jeep would only cover $50/day for a car rental, so we had to rely on borrowing cars from others. Once 12/2 came, we reached out to the dealership and they said the part ship date was moved to 12/18! This is not a timely manner. We have made at least 3 calls to Jeep over the past week, and they keep telling us since 12/10/25 that they will let us know in 2 days...2 days pass and they transfer our case. Another two days pass and still no call from them so I called them back and they have yet to call me. We had our Jeep in the week of 11/17 or 11/24 for inspection and it passed. We noticed some lagging when we were going up hills in the 1-2 rpm range but mechanic did not notice it. Between the inspection and when it finally broke down, no lights came on and there were no warning messages. Not until the car broke down on 11/1.

My car is jerking when driven and enabling the park brake while driving. There is a recall on other similar models. I purchased this vehicle brand new and within the same year, had the engine replaced by the manufacturer due to mechanical issues. Please assist in getting this PTU fixed not at my expense. The dealership is telling me $3k but I feel this should be covered due to other recalls and the fact that this motor was replaced shortly after purchasing the car.
Engine oil cooler has cracked and failed 1 month out of 1 year warranty. Cracks due to cold temperatures and warming up engine. Leaks oil all over and engine coolant.
Engine cooler failed again 1 month out of 1 year warranty. Causes coolant to leak everywhere and engine oil. Happens due to colder outside temperatures and warming of the engine.
Orlando Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Dealership states there is no remedy for this issue, therefore they wanted to charge me $5,749.28 for parts and labor to fix the issue. My jeep is running hot even though there are no leaks. I cannot lock or unlock the four-wheel drive system. Alerts continually being shown on the dash to check shifter and 4x4 not available. This has been going on for almost a year.

Service Shifter light came on dash, all gears on shifter , red lights came on. I was driving at 55 mph and could tell the car wasn’t accelerating and was slowing down . That’s when I noticed the Service Shifter light on dash. I was in a lot of traffic and couldn’t safely pull over , I was almost rear ended by the car behind me. I coasted to the side of the road and turned car off and back on . The light went off . This was yesterday , today I start the car and it starts rough ( which it usually doesn’t ) and the service shifter light is back on. This is a very serious , dangerous and possibly deadly issue . I was so scared when it happened as I had no control of speed of the vehicle . I see many , many reports on this issue for several years and it shows past repairs have not corrected the issue. A recall should be issued ASAP before someone gets hurt or dies from this very common problem . Customers should not have to pay to repair and issue that has been reported thousands of times for many years . Please give direction on how to get this properly and fully fixed . I am afraid to drive the vehicle for fear of a traffic accident .
Lost power on thruway in 2017 jeep Cherokee, light came on reading"service electronic stability control ", followed by check engine light. Car is not drivable, been sitting at dealership for almost 3weeks now, currently no remedy for safety recall, and no timeline. I have no vehicle at moment, work fulltime, and am still making payments. Was told I can't have loaner car, both by dealership, and Mopar, and am left in disbelief. Vehicle was already inspected by jeep dealership, said their certain its related to recall. My life is upside down currently, am hopeless

The contact stated that the Start/Stop system was inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. While driving my car it loss power in the middle of the busy intersection the lights got dim in the car while I was at the stop light and the car just shut off I could not put on the hazardous lights or anything to alarm the cars behind me …I had to call a tow truck driver to move the vehicle I couldn’t even get the key out of the ignition neither could the tow truck driver …had the vehicle towed to my home when the vehicle reached my home the car then started back up …this was dangerous because some could have team into the back of me
Noticed the "Service Shifter" Light came on and lights blinking next to the shifter started flashing then the Jeep starting shaking violently and loss of power started to slow the vehicle down, pulled over and shut it off and restarted and drove home- " Service Shifter" light still comes on - we just pull over and shut engine off and restart. Jeep Dealership is no help
I purchased a 2017 certified pre-owned Jeep Cherokee from a Jeep dealership in March 2020. Starting in late 2022/early 2023, while driving, everything electrical would shut off and stop functioning without warning (dashboard, radio, air or heat if on, lights near gear shift, could not use hazard lights, turning signal, or power windows), and shortly after the engine would die, leaving me stalled in the middle of the street. I would then have to put the car in park, turn the car off and turn it back on. I took it to 2 Jeep dealerships in Michigan where I was living at the time and they refused to look further than scanning the car to determine if any codes appeared and found no codes. This started happening more frequently in summer 2023 and I took it to a dealership in Indiana; no hard codes came up again and they were unable to replicate the issue. They found some worn wiring with the radio and replaced the radio, hoping it would resolve the issue (invoice attached). This issue started occurring again [XXX] more frequently than before (4 times in a 15-minute window) - this time I was on the highway and had no way to signal the cars behind as I could not use the turning signal or hazard lights and the electrical and engine cut off simultaneously without warning, almost causing a serious accident. The car has been at the dealership for 2 weeks now, and they are unable to replicate the issue; therefore, unable to provide a diagnosis. There was a safety recall for 2017-2018 Jeep Cherokees for the PTU (documentation attached), but my VIN doesn't fall within that recall. Therefore, I am filing a safety report to initiate an investigation for this issue, as this is a significant safety risk and has the potential to cause a fatal accident for myself as a driver and others on the road. This is happening quite often with the Jeeps ranging from 2014-2021 per Jeep forums (documentation attached), and no one has found a solution. While driving, multiple warning alerts appeared on my dashboard, including “Service Airbag,” “Service Four Wheel Drive,” “Service Shifter,” “Service ABS,” “Traction Control Off,” and “Check Engine Light.” Shortly after, the vehicle lost power and became immobile, preventing me from moving it to the side of the road. The parking brake engaged automatically and could not be disengaged. Additionally, the windshield wipers activated without being turned on. These issues rendered the car unsafe and unmovable. I called a tow truck, but the vehicle was towed before it arrived, leading to further costs and complications. The malfunctioning systems pose significant safety risks, including the failure of critical components like the airbag and ABS. The loss of power and inability to move the vehicle caused a hazardous situation, and I was unable to take preventive action. I request an investigation into whether this issue should be considered a recall. The situation raises serious concerns about the safety and reliability of the vehicle’s components.

Engine shudders & when trying to slowly move the vehicle it jolts quickly. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, replicated by both an independent service center & a dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, the error message stated that the four wheel drive is unavailable. First date of notice was 2/26/2025.
4wd light has been on along with engine light. Took it to a mechanic but and a problem with cylinder 2 came up and they checked it and everything was fine. t'll sometimes slightly roll in park before perking to a stop. While driving it'll sputter sometimes.

My 2017 has experienced multiple loss of power events( two on the highway!). The vehicle’s transmission will disengage and I will have to coast to the side of the road. My ignition is still on but have been told previously that my PTU needs replacing. I will have the amber service transmission light illuminated but only after having transmission disengage. This power failure is a extremely serious safety issue- now the local Jeep dealers have “no fix” and I am having to rent a car because of this safety issue.
Have a problem with my call losing all power in my jeep while sitting at an intersection waiting for the light to change. Almost got rear-ended cause my car just suddenly lost power. Power finally came back in 20 or 30 seconds but I had people honking horns and I'm was frazzled. Now I have this Service Shifter error on my dashboard and the PNDR lights all are on and red..Came on Jeep automakers. Do better!!

Reference service bulletin 20V-343 / W47 Recall Summary (Differential unit) 2 Speed Power Transfer Unit failed (Transfer Case) PTU My wife was driving down the freeway at 65 MPH when the until failed. This was during heavy rains and while the car was hydroplaning. The four wheel drive system kicked in and then the unit failed. She heard a loud clunk and then unit the unit forced itself into neutral. This could have cause the car to spin out of control, but she was able to recover. Wife did not capture error message that occurred during the incident, but it said something about putting the car in neutral. once she was able to stop in the emergency lane on the freeway she came to a complete stop and put the car in park. She was exiting the vehicle and the car started to roll even though the car was in park. She quickly applied the brakes and was able to engage the ebrake. The car is currently at the mechanic for inspection.
1. Consumer is a Permanent and Total Disabled Vet (Unemployable) and this vehicle is the only vehicle Consumer has. 2. I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk KL (XXX) I have owned since day one with 56k miles. 3. At all times I did not receive any recall notices for correct known safety issues. 5. I have OBD-II tools of vLinker (use everyday for LiveData), BlueDriver and TogDog. 6. For almost as long as I have had the Jeep I have experienced the following. When I say the following I mean, at all times: a. Any type of road- surface- weather- time of day- city, highway and interstate driving- speed to include deaccelerating, at stop sign/light- 1-3 x’s a day, weekly- it doesn’t matter when or where b. The PTU was replaced in 2018 according to service report, service stating they couldn’t replicate issue although they had videos, etc a total of 4-x’s c. But, I keep experiencing the following: d. Loss of acceleration, push on gas pedal nothing happens, sometimes can let off for a bit and then accelerates, revs to 6-7k up/down using/not cruise, cruise doesn’t turn off, pulling trailer and not- lose brakes when stopped rolls back, parking brake message, traction control message, service engine message, loud engine noises from in front of driver, rear back and under center console- lose of rear wheel traction, loss of park- shifting to park grinding noises, 7. I’m not the only one with the same issues. I know a lady who has the same problem with her vehicle and has been quoted thousands of dollars to fix it. Cylinders and engine housing.. anti freeze leak.. and then expect us to pay expensive car payments.
Vehicle is putting up a code for “service shifter” while driving, which turns off when the car is turned off. Code does not read for dealerships to fix issue. it is reoccurring and we are concerned as we have seen a 2017 jeep Cherokee wreck out after throwing this code and “locking up the engine”. We are secondhand owners of this jeep and believe the previous owner sold this car because of said issue because it came up within a month of us purchasing the car.

I was driving up bridge in morning rush traffic suddenly without warning lost drive cv axel on passegner side broke and had to be towed. I called 911 and the police tried to put car in drive and car would just roll back and it almost went into the unit. when the car suddenly stopped I was just lucky no one ran into me, I was in the middle of the road & could not move the car.
I was driving my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 2.4L, car won't start, I have oil pressure sensor to warn me when low doesn't alert me at all, only time is when I realized a beep when I made turns and would indicate oil pressure low! I can't get my car to stop and it stalled on me while driving with no indication of low oil, and I have two kids and could have been very bad, since no power no breaks no steering!
When driving my vehicle going 30 miles per hour the car stopped by itself and gave error message “ Shift to park or neutral Press brake or select gear” . I have to put my car in park and try and restart the vehicle. This has happened 4 times with in the last week.
On [XXX] my 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude experienced full power failure while driving, resulting in an uncontrolled stopped with lack of power brakes, steering or other electrical assistance while in middle of road with traffic traveling 20 mph just avoiding impact with car in front of me. Had I been on highway or traveling faster I may have encountered a deadly impact to rock walls on road or surrounding traffic or oncoming traffic. There is a recall listed [XXX] Campaign number [XXX]. I have made a complaint to JEEP 800-853-1403 who noted my vin with case number [XXX]. My jeep vin is not included in recall notice but clearly should be and covered for repair under [XXX] . My Jeep regained power 5 min later and I drove it knowing unsafe to repair shop where it sits. My Vin should be added to the already listed appx 67k jeeps 2014-2017 year. I also have MOPAR extended warranty. I will not drive my jeep for obvious reasons until the repair is made. The contact stated that the vehicle would fail to restart while turning the key in the ignition switch and would restart independently when taking her hand off the key. The contact stated that she was able to continue driving; however, the failure reoccurred several times in one day. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where engine oil was added to the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. The dealer performed a software update under an unknown recall and added oil to the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer advised the contact that they would contact the dealer and she would be contacted afterward. While driving the suv will turn off. It has happened multiple times. Recently I was stuck in an interception after making a turn. It has happened before and a “service shifter” light came on. But this time no additional lights came on and suv would not turn back on

The car randomly activated the Electronic Parking Break and it will not disengage. I have disconnected the Battery hoping to reset the module but that did not work. This car will also randomly refuse to start or shut down. Only resetting the ECM/PCM will clear the error and get the car moving again. This is a safety concern because the Ebrake may engage while moving at high speeds. There is a warning light indicating that Ebrake needs service. There is also an unknown leak coming in from the roof and running towards the back lift gate. Water will pool in the storage section to the left and right of rear lift gate.
There was already a recall on the make and model of my car, Jeep Cherokee Latitude; however, when I search by VIN it shows zero unrepaired recalls. So if the problem is fixed (no one even attempted to fix my car), why does my car still shut off in the middle of driving? When it shuts off I can’t turn the wheel, Can’t put it in park, and the gas and brakes/ABS don’t work. This has happened many times with my daughter, currently 4yo, in the car; why do I have to risk my life every single time we need to go somewhere? Every single dealership and mechanic I’ve brought it to says there is nothing wrong with the car, yet it continues to shut off while driving… I did crash the first time it happened, but it was in a snow storm and possibly unrelated? No injuries or damage.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil and the engine was replaced. The contact stated that several years later while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle shut off without warning. The contact stated that the failure occurred for a second time soon after restarting the vehicle. The contact drove back to the dealer and the vehicle remained at the dealer for approximately 2 months. Once the vehicle was returned to the contact, the vehicle shut off again; the vehicle was towed back to the dealer. The dealer replaced the power software module and returned that vehicle back to the contact. Soon after retrieving the vehicle, the instrument panel went blank, and the vehicle shut off again without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and then back to the dealer; however, neither the independent mechanic nor the dealer could determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

Service shifter notification/warning comes on randomly. When this warning is on, all of the lights on the gear shift light up (p,r,n,d). The engine feels like it is slipping, and the vehicle will drive slowly & is very loud. The gas pedal can be pressed completely to the floor and the car will not accelerate fast enough. The airbag and parking braking notification flash as well. Check engine light comes too.
While driving the service shifter warning has come on. The car will drive like it is not in the correct gear, and all the gear shift lights come on. It does not want to accelerate. If the warning comes on when starting up, the Jeep will not allow me to shift from park. It has to be shut off and restarted after waiting a few minutes. The auto stop-start no longer works. (It’s the feature that helps to cut emissions that usually engages when at a signal light.). While researching, I found out that Mopar has recalled some Cherokee models, but not mine.

Shifter alarm and need to stop the car to reset. Terrible on the highway engine will shut down. Temperature overheating stopped car working.
In the first incident, the engine stalled. Next incident, warning lights on the dash appeared (engine light, traction light, and throttle control) and when pressing on the gas peddle, the car would not respond (would not increase speed). I had to put on flashers to a warn car behind me. Very scary. Bringing in for service ASAP.
The Service Shifter light came on and keeps coming on sporadically. I was dismayed to learn that there are numerous complaints regarding the Service Shifter light on the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. Has this ever been formally addressed.
I did have an incident in July of 2022, my car would not get out of park. I was in a drive through and put my car in park. When I went to put my car in drive. The vehicle completely shut off and began to roll backwards. The next set of issues, I first noticed the issues in the beginning of 2023. The service 4wd light is on and the parking brake will not engage. The 4wd itself works just fine, each terrain mode will engage. So Ilderton Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (High Point, NC), looked at my vehicle and said the PTU was bad and needs to be replaced. This passed weekend, I was driving entering a highway via acceleration lane and my car had trouble switching speed limits. Which leads me to believe the necessary power was not able to perform. This is detrimental to the safety of myself and others. Should my car's brakes fail or car lose power; it could seriously injure myself, innocent people in the vicinity of my car, or mechanics working on my car, etc. I work at a Pediatric office and would hate for the brakes to fail at work. Chrysler has already recalled 96,000 Jeep Cherokees for the exact same issue. Due to this, the PTU is back ordered and cannot be located anywhere in the US.
The car sometimes jumps, propels forward, possibly transmission related issue, and just happens randomly.
Just bought this jeep used in Nov 2022 a week ago it kept stalling just shutting down on me I could be a stop sign or just driving this is very dangerous someone could run into me. Took it to mechanic was told it was 3quarts low in oil but the oil light doesn’t come on or anything and I’ve only had the car 3 months so they would have checked oil since they do a multi point inspection
W84 Powertrain Software- July 30 2022 Jerry Seiner Casa Grande Dealership technicians inspected and reprogram the PCM and TCM software and closed the recall but 2 months later all the lights on my dashboard came on check engine light service shifter park brake etc. I went back to the dealership and the advisor told me to go to the dealership where I bought it from. I ended up going to Larry Miller Chrysler Jeep Avondale in Arizona. The vehicle was braking on its own while driving high speeds on the highway and while driving I almost crashed. My vehicle was in and out of the dealership many times and the technicians didnt seem to know what was wrong with the vehicle. Almost 6 months after the initial problem it seems its fixed. 01/13/2023 was the last time I had to return because the dashboard lights were turning on after driving the vehicle an estimate of 100 miles.
Leaking a lot of oil to the point I had to refill every week.
When driving my jeep the dashboard will randomly give me a warning to service my shifter and all of the lights on shifter will go red. I have to turn my jeep off and back on for the lights to go back to normal. I have had to replace the power transfer unit due to the 4 wheel drive not working anymore. I took my car into the dealership to the PCM W84 Recall and two weeks later my transmission fluid exploded and the engine was smoking. Had to replace the heat ignition coil and the inlet hose. Paid $2,000 to repair and a week later my check engine light came on and now my car is overheating. Took it to the dealer and they added coolant and said it was an air bubble in the coolant. A couple of days later the issue happened again, took it in two more times and they filled the coolant, but now saying that the cylinder head gasket needs to be replaced which is another $1,700.
While driving the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly stops running without any warning. Engine stops. Car just coasts. PRNDL indicator (D for drive) on instrument cluster flashes instead of a constant D. Then some sort of messages comes up similar to "shift to neutral to start engine". Car will not restart. Car coasts to stop without power and no power steering. Then I need to turn ignition off. I will then cycle locks (locked then unlocked). Then turn on ignition. From here the car attempts to start but it is not an immediate start up like normal. The gauge needles (speedometer and tachometer) both go all the way to the right while the car attempts to restart but this startup takes about 10+ seconds of attempted cranking to finally restart. This is a long clicking sound before restart. This has happened 3-4 times now in the 30 days. Most recently on a main road where I had to coast without power and power steering to the shoulder. I have not yet been to the dealer. Car is out of warranty.
When accelerating the vehicle has a hard shift every now and then that’s very noticeable. Seems to be slipping or having trouble shifting occasionally when trying to get up to speed.

UNKNOWN. When driving my Jeep there will be times where I go to accelerate and my transmission will jump. Also while I’m driving all of my gears on my shifter will turn red and a message will pop up saying service shifter. On numerous occasions the car engine just shuts off or loses power. This happens consistently. The car has been taken to the dealership where it was purchased and was told "could not duplicate problem". This just happened again yesterday on a main street posted at 45 mph, where engine just shut off. Making left turns has become a gamble as power response is not there. This is a dangerous situation.
The incident happened in a parking lot. Backing out of the parking space, there was a delivery truck parked right behind me. Backing out of my parking space, I hit the bumper of the truck (no damage to the truck). As I pulled back into my parking space the vehicle accelerated very rapidly in a distance of approx. 25 feet; the acceleration seemed "Hell cat" like. Slamming my foot on the brake did not help. The vehicle then hit a brick retaining wall deploying multiple air bags and causing enough vehicle damage that the insurance company declared it totaled. It is amazing that the vehicle hit the brick wall with enough intensity to deploy the air bags and cause considerable front end damage after traveling such a short distance (approx 25 ft). The vehicle is in the insurance company's possession. As such, I do not have access to the vehicle. Had the brick wall not been there, the vehicle could have hit other vehicles or pedestrians and I was lucky to only have minor bruises and abrasions. There was no warning what so ever that this was about to happen.
The 'service shifter' code keeps showing up. The car shifts and drives fine when it happens but it concerns me because I've read where a few people have had the car accelerate by themselves when this happens.

The engine consumes a large amount of oil. I regularly have to add 1qt/ 800-100 miles. The engine will just stall if the oil level gets too low without any warning. In Alaska this poses an extreme hazard, especially in the winter.

Engine and car was not warming up with remote start. Finally check engine light comes on. Code P0128 thermostat. Repaired 1/28/2021 @ 85762 miles. All antifreeze replaced. $600+ repair. 2/1/2022 same observed failure of engine to warm up during remote starts. 2/6/2022 check engine light comes on with code P0128. Again, thermostat failure. Miles 111,000. This appears to be a repetitive symptom of cherokees 2014+ with 2.4L engines. This can cause serious engine damage.

Heater hose broke while on the freeway causing all of the antifreeze to leak out and car to overheat with no warnings signs. Car started shaking and I pulled over and it shut off. Turns out the heater hose is made with two tubes connected toghether and the hose broke where the connect.
When stopping to turn the engine cut out while we were attempting to turn left. The car then alerted us to put the car into neutral to start ( Shift To Park Or Neutral Press Break + Select Gear.) We attempted to do as much in the middle of the intersection we were stuck in, posing a safety risk since we were in the middle of a left hand turn with on coming traffic. The lights, radio and dash were working at this point. We put the car into neutral and pushed it safely out of intersection and attempted to restart the engine, at this point the engine wouldn't turn over and there were no alerts. I called AAA for assistance. The service man who came out jumped my battery and got the car started. He informed me he gets many calls about Jeep Cherokees doing this and if a jump doesn't work he ends up towing the vehicle. I was able to drive the Jeep Cherokee back home since I didn't live too far away but as soon as I turned off my vehicle and tried to restart it the engine refused to turn over again and I got a check engine light. I attempted to start the Jeep Cherokee the next morning and was given a change oil soon message but nothing else, the engine wouldn't turn over, I called AAA for a tow to the mechanic. The next day the mechanic called me letting me know the car started right up for him and he changed my oil. He then ran diagnostics to see if anything came up. Nothing did, he also test drove it three times and started it six times to make sure it was running and told me that everything seemed OK but he read online that low oil levels will make Cherokee engines abruptly stop working. He advised me to check my oil before starting my car every time and report the issues here.
Drove approximately two miles and stopped the vehicle. Less than five minutes later start the car again. After three to five seconds the engine stalled. Vehicle was parked in a flat parking lot. It was about 55 degrees and clear this morning. I can no longer count the number of times this has happened on my hands.

Engine mounts broke and engine drop on excel dealership say mounts broke no warning light just heard a thump going about 25 mph then loud noise and rough engine. afraid to drive any further had a burn smell called tow truck sent to dealer.
answers to the question and detailed description is below - the car completely shutdown while driving. - as the car shutdown while driving in the traffic, it was a major safety concern. - yes, service center told me it is just due to the battery - yes, by the authorized service center - no warning is appeared before the incident. I have a 2017 Cherokee purchased 2.5 years ago, 25.000 km and having regular service every 6 months. Just 100 km after i serviced the car, it shutdown while driving !!! The authorized service checked the car and the issue was just the battery. Generally when you have battery issue the car will not start without a jumper / booster but will not shutdown while driving at all. For Cherokee, it shutdown while driving !. Jeep service manager informed me that due to the used technology Cherokee can shutdown while driving when the battery finish (which is generally not the case in other cars). When i asked why the manufacturer didn't get any precaution for this, they mentioned that only Grand Cherokee has auxilary battery as a precaution and it is not obliged by the government and they just get some cases which is not enough to make a recall.

My service shifter light came on and all the lights on the shifter console came on (PRND21). At first, I could turn the car off to reset it. This was dangerous because I had to pull over wherever I was. As time has gone on it pretty much stays on. My car has 33000 miles on it but is past the 3-year mark. I took it to the dealership and they told me the previous years had this problem but was recalled. It cost me $500.00 to replace a plastic bezel. I have saved all dealership repair paperwork. The dealership confirmed this is a very common problem.
I received an engine shutoff signal which disabled the car immediately without prior warning. It was due to the protection signal for low oil. The vehicle had a oil change 5,000 miles prior with synthetic oil. Over the course of 5,000 miles it "burned" the oil to the point of low level. Upon discovery, I noted many customer complaints (online) of this issue. There was no prior warning to the low oil level (no low pressure light or indicator.) I purchased this vehicle for my daughter and had she been driving on a busy highway, it would have disabled her car without any power to safely navigate this from the road, probably leading to a major accident. A newer vehicle with no mechanical issues does not "burn" oil excessively, this is a major engine issue. Some oil loss is understood and normal (in older cars), this newer vehicle used over 3 quarts of oil in the span of one oil change. Had I known about this issue, I would have been vigilant in monitoring this issue. Not knowing about this issue led to a very unsafe shutdown of the vehicle.

THIS PROBLEM PERSISTED FOR A WEEK OR SO WENT AWAY AND EVENTUALLY CAME BACK. NOW THE ENGINE FEELS AS IF IT'S GIVING OUT IT DOESN'T ACCELERATE WELL, I KNOW IT'S A V4 BUT IT SHOULD HAVE MAINTAINED THE GET UP THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT AND IS WELL MAINTAINED WITH FREQUENT OIL CHANGES WITH THE BEST OIL. I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER AT APPROXIMATELY 3200 MILES AND WAS PUT ON AN "OIL CONSUMPTION MONITORING PROGRAM" WHERE I RETURNED THE CAR EVERY 1000 MILES FOR MEASURING THE OIL CONSUMPTION. THIS WAS DONE EVERY 1000 MILES AND THE CAR NOW HAS 15,700 MILES. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE DEALER TIME BEFORE LAST, I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE IT ANOTHER 1000 MILES, RETURN AND IF OIL MUST BE ADDED, CHRYSLER WILL "REPLACE THE ENGINE." WHEN I SCHEDULED MY LAST CONSUMPTION CHECK, I WAS TOLD CHRYSLER NOW UPPED THE CHECKING INTERVAL TO 1500 MILES. I THEREFOR DROVE THE CAR ANOTHER 500 MILES AND RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 9/21/2020 WHERE THE THE CAR WAS CHECKED IN. AFTER THE CAR WAS CHECKED, THE SERVICE CHECK IN GUY TOLD ME THEY ADDED ANOTHER QUART, AND THAT I NEEDED TO PUT YET ANOTHER "1500 TO 1700" MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THEN RETURN FOR ANOTHER FINAL CHECK, AND IF OIL WAS NEEDED, THEY WOULD (ONCE AGAIN) REPLACE THE ENGINE. I UNDERSTAND FROM THE SERVICE PERSONAL, THAT IF THE ENGINE OIL QUANTITY DROPS TO TWO QUARTS BELOW FULL, THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF, AND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES.

THEIR ANSWER WAS 'IF WE CAN'T DUPLICATE IT THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO. IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN BRING IT IN'. WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSE TOO MEAN? IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON 5-13-20, 5-15-20 AND 5-31-20. ALL THESE TIMES IT WAS WHEN WE ARE DRIVING ALONG AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN. ENGINE JUST SHUTS OFF. ON 5-31-20 I WAS IN A TRAFFIC LANE MAKING A RIGHT TURN WITH OTHER TRAFFIC BEHIND WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. BETWEEN 0 AND 6,000 MILES, MINIMAL TO NO OIL WAS LOST, BUT BETWEEN 6,000-7,000 THE OIL WOULD DROP SIGNIFICANTLY WITH NO OBVIOUS REASON WHY. THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THEY HAVE HAD OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH A SIMILAR ISSUE. AT THAT TIME, THEY SAID IT WAS THE SHIFTER BEZEL AND THEY REPLACED IT. NOW WE ARE NOT GETTING A WARNING LIGHT AT ALL BEFORE THE CAR DIES. THEN I HEAR NOTHING FROM ANYONE FOR 8 DAYS TILL I CALL THE DEALER AND IM TOLD THEY ARE WAITING ON SPARK PLUGS. 20MINS LATER THE FCA REP CALLS AND SAYS THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY FOUND, METAL SHAVINGS INSIDE, SCORCHING, A PIECE OF THE EXHAUST VALVE MISSING AND LOST INSIDE THE ENGINE. HOWEVER FCA WILL ONLY PAY FOR 1500 LEAVING THE REST OF THE BILL TO ME FOR SOMETHING THATS NOT MY FAULT AND AN ISSUE THEY CONTINUE TO IGNORE. HAD THEY INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM EARLIER REGARDLESS OF THEIR OIL BURNING RULES THEY WOULD HAVE FOUND THE VALVE WAS CRACKED. MY ENGINE CONSUMES OIL. I CANNOT EVEN REACH 2000 MILES BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. MY CAR WILL JUST CUT OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING (AT ANY SPEED INCLUDING HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND TURNS). WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED I CHECKED THE OIL AND THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY OF OIL. IT DIDNT EVEN REGISTER ON THE DIPSTICK. I HAVE HAD OVER 6 OIL CHANGES SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 01/2019 (LESS THAN A YEAR). I HAVE HAD OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING COMPLETED AND EVERYTHING "COMES BACK IN RANGE". THE ENGINE HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND NOTHING IS LEAKING OR FAULTY. MY CAR TAKES FULL SYNTHETIC OIL WHICH SHOULD LAST WAY LONGER THAN THAT. I AM AWARE THIS IS AN OVERALL ISSUE WITH 2017 JEEPS OF ALL MODELS. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP DIDNT SEEM LIKE HE KNOW MUCH OF ANYTHING AND TRIED TO TELL ME THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE THAT COMPLETELY DEPLETES ITS OIL SUPPLY WITHIN 2000 MILES. HE THEN REFERRED ME TO MOPARS CORPORATE LINE WHO THEN REFERRED ME TO NHTSA TO FILE A REPORT.
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN THE VEHICLE DIED. ATTEMPTS TO RESTART WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL. VEHICLE WAS JUMPED AND STARTED. AT THAT TIME THE DASH DISPLAYED "SHIFTER SERVICE NEEDED". SHIFTER WAS REPLACED. THE DAY AFTER SHIFTER WAS REPLACED THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A DING NOISE (SIMILAR TO SEAT BELT DING) WHILE MAKING A TURN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS THE MATTER WITH IT. TWO DAYS AFTER THAT WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN THE VEHICLE MADE A DING NOISE AND STALLED (VEHICLE WAS RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT MOVE). VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART. VEHICLE RESTATED EVENTUALLY AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. AFTER THREE DAYS I WAS TOLD THIS IS DUE TO LOW OIL. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO TELL ME HOW LOW MY OIL WAS BUT STATED IT WOULD ONLY NEED TO BE A QUART LOW FOR THIS TO HAPPEN AND THAT JEEP IS NOTORIOUS FOR THIS.

THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON ANOTHER OCCASION AND THE SHIFTER WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000.

I HAD JUST PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY IN THE MORNING AND HEADING DOWN THE NEIGHBOORHOOD ROAD. ABOUT A HALF A MILE INTO MY DRIVE, THE CAR FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CAR BEGAN TO COAST, I HAD LOST ENGINE POWER. I TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL AND IT WAS UNRESPONSIVE. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE DASH AND IT WAS OUT. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO LIMP THE CAR TO THE CURB. AFTER APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TURN IT OVER AND START THE ENGINE. MY ENGINE IS CONSUMING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES.

IF THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS, AND JEEP IS OBVIOUSLY HAVING A PROBLEM IDENTIFYING WHY, SHOULDN'T THIS BE A RECALL? THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A FAULT IN THEIR PRODUCT OR WIRING. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AND/OR LAWSUITS. PLEASE HELP.

ALSO JUST RECENTLY I NOTICED WHEN STARTING MY VEHICLE WITH THE FOB IT STAYS ON 30 SECS AND CUTS RIGHT BACK OFF. THE TIRE FEATURE ISN'T ALWAYS CORRECT EITHER IT SAYS I NEED AIR WHEN I DON'T. I'D LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THE REMOTE START FEATURE..
ON TWO OCCASIONS THIS WEEK THE JEEP CHEROKEE UNEXPECTEDLY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT WAS STARTLING AND LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING LEFT IT DIFFICULT TO PULL OVER. UPON INQUIRY FROM A LOCAL JEEP DEALER, THEY INDICATED IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN IF THE OIL IS LOW. THE OIL WAS IN FACT 3/4 QUART LOW AND WAS REMEDIED HOWEVER THERE SHOULD BE A LIGHT THAT COMES ON NOT A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED SHUT DOWN. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ON THE DASH REGARDING LOW OIL. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD POTENTIALLY BE DEADLY.

NOV 2019 WHEN GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE THERE WOULD BE A 15-20 SECOND LAG BEFORE IT WOULD JUMP INTO GEAR AND LUNG FORWARD. I ALSO START EXPERIENCING DELAYS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE IT WOULD LAG FOR ABOUT 10 SECOND BEFORE JERKING INTO GEAR AND LUNG FORWARD AT A HIGHER SPEED. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND CODE P0304 MISFIRE CYLINDER 4. DEALERSHIP REPLACED (UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY) BOOT KIT - IGNITION COIL, LUBRICANT - DIELECTRIC, TRANSMISSION MOUNT, REPLACED VALVE BODY AND TRANS RANGE SENSOR. CAR WAS PURCHASED IN DECEMBER OF 2017 WITH 12 MILES ON IT, CURRENT MILEAGE 55,989 WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE DONE ON VEHICLE.

IN THE TWO YEARS I HAVE OWNED IT, IT HAS HAD TO BE TOWED FOR THIS 1-2 OTHER TIMES AS IT RUNS OUT OF OIL AND SHUTS DOWN BEFORE THE RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE DATE OR MILEAGE. I WAS NEVER INFORMED TO MONITOR THE OIL UNTIL RECENTLY. AFTER THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS TOLD TO GET THE OIL CHANGED AT 4000 MILES INSTEAD OF 5000 AND I HAVE BEEN DOING THAT IT OR ADDING OIL IF I CANNOT GET IT RIGHT IN. IT ALSO HAS NO WARNING THAT IT IS LOW ON OIL.

THE JEEP DEALERSHIP NEVER ROTATED MY TIRES WHEN THEY CHANGED MY OIL AND TOLD ME THEY DID ROTATE MY TIRES RESULTING IN ME HAVING TO GET A BRAND NEW SET OF 4 TIRES IN 2018 BECAUSE ALL THE TIRES WENT COMPLETELY BALD (TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON). MY FIRST OF 4 CYLINDERS WENT OUT IN JANUARY 2019 THAT WAS FIXED ON WARRANTY. SECOND CYLINDER OF 4 THAT WAS A DIFFERENT CYLINDER THAN THE FIRST WENT OUT FEBRUARY OF 2019 THE JEEP DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A GOOD YEAR PROGRAM AND MADE ME PAY A FEE AND THEY FIXED ALL 4 CYLINDERS. CURRENTLY IN NOVEMBER 2019 MY ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON AND I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS NOW. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL JEEP DEALERSHIPS THAT HAS NOT SEEN THIS ISSUE ON OTHER JEEPS SO I REALLY BELIEVE I GOT SOLD A POORLY MANUFACTURED JEEP.

VEHICLE LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE SHUTS DOWN, STEERING LOCKS AND THE DASH LIGHTS UP WITH A MESSAGE THAT SAYS PUT VEHICLE AND "PARK" AND THEN SELECT DESIRED GEAR.THIS ISSUES HAS HAPPENED TWICE ONCE I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION AND THE SECOND TIME I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SCARY AS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A COLLISION. I KEEP MY VEHICLE UP TO DATE ON MAINTENANCE/SERVICE. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE THAT I AM PAYING A CAR PAYMENT, HAVE LESS THAN 62,000 MILES ON A LESS THAN 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE, AND HAVING THESE KIND OF SAFETY CONCERNS. . TODAY, MY CAR DIED WITH NO WARNING ON A BUSY ROAD, GIVES ME APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS TO PULL TO SAFETY BEFORE THERE IS NO SPEED/ABILITY TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT THE RISK IS SO HIGH, AND THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LISTED ON LINE SHOW A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THIS AMONG HUNDREDS OF VEHICLES BY JEEP AND NOTHING. THE DEALERSHIPS/SERVICE CONTINUE TO MAKE COMMENTS LIKE "WE WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE". TO BE SPECIFIC: DRIVING AT ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR, STRAIGHT FOLLOWING A RIGHT TURN. . . . LOST POWER. LIGHTS WENT ON THE DASH, MESSAGE ABOVE APPEARED. IT TOOK TWO TRIES TO RESTART TO GET ME OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD NO EXPLANATION FOR ME BOTH TIMES THIS HAPPENED. AS SOON AS THEY WOULD CONNECT IT TO DIAGNOSE THEY SAID THE CODES WOULD CLEAR AND THE CAR WAS WORKING. ITS A WASTE OF MONEY BECAUSE IM GOING TO GET THE SAME ANSWER. I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW. THIS CAR HAS BUT MY CHILDREN AND MY LIFE IN DANGER. CHRYSTLER AND JEEP WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THEY HAVE A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THEIR JEEPS ENGINE. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE OIL CHANGES NEEDED TO BE MORE FREQUENT, SUCH AS EVERY 2,000 TO 2,500 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA TO INQUIRE ABOUT POTENTIAL RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.

AT THIS TIME NO OTHER LIGHT APPEARS (CHECK ENGINE, LOW OIL, ELECTRICAL ISSUE.) THIS OCCURS WHEN THE CAR HAS JUST BEEN STARTED, DRIVING, OR PARKED. IT DOES NOT MATTER THE TEMPERATURE OF THE CAR. THIS HAS BEEN NOTED BY PHOTOS OF THE SERVICE LIGHT ALSO WITH THE MILEAGE OF THE CAR. THE ISSUE SOMETIMES RESULTS IN THE CAR TURNING ITSELF OFF WHILE IT IS IN DRIVE. WHEN THIS OCCURS THE CAR MUST SIT FOR A PERIOD OF TIME FROM 1 MINUTE TO 30 MINUTES THEN THE CAR WILL TURN BACK ON WITHOUT ISSUE. THE LIGHT APPEARS WITHOUT ANY KNOWN CAUSE OR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED. THE CAR HAS A SERVICE CONTRACT. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP AT THE DEALERSHIP THE LIGHT IS NOT ON. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT THIS ISSUE CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED UNLESS THE LIGHT IS ON. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE ON TWO OCCASIONS AS IT WOULD NOT START FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THIS ISSUE DOES NOT INVOLVE ANY RECALLED PARTS OR PRODUCTS. THE DEALERSHIP DENIES ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER VEHICLES. THROUGH A SIMPLE ONLINE SEARCH I FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER DRIVERS AND VEHICLES WITH THIS EXACT ISSUE. THIS POSES A SAFETY THREAT AS THE CAR TURNS ITSELF OFF WHILE IT IS IN DRIVE. IT IS MY FEAR THAT THIS MAY OCCUR WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. THIS HAS ONLY OCCURRED TO THIS POINT ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. THEN IN MAY 2019 I GOT THE SAME WARNING, AND WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE I SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OVER 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS STUTTERING, AND ACTING LIKE IT WOULD SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A NEARBY JEEP DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THEY FIRST STATED THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE ALL THE SPARK PLUGS AND RECOMMENDED A FUEL INDUCTION CLEANING SERVICE, BOTH OF WHICH I WOULD NEED TO PAY AS THEY WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED ME TO ADVISE THE REPAIRS THEY HAD ATTEMPTED HAD NOT REPAIRED VEHICLE. THEY THEN PERFORMED A COIL PACK REPLACEMENT AND THIS WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE RENTAL AND THE REPAIRS ENDED UP COSTING APPROXIMATELY $650 OUT OF POCKET. $150 WILL BE REFUNDED AFTER 60 BUSINESS DAYS ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER. ALTHOUGH THE SPARK PLUGS AND THE FUEL INJECTION CLEANING DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND ARE NOT NECESSARY MAINTENANCE AT 50,000 MILES, BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER WARRANTY SERVICE STATED THOSE WERE MAINTENANCE REPAIRS AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I HAD PURCHASED. I MOST LIKELY WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER JEEP IN THE FUTURE AS I FEEL THE ORIGINAL RECOMMENDED REPAIRS WERE A RIP OFF. AS A RESULT IT LOOSES OIL RAPIDLY. AND JEEP IMPLEMENTED ENGINE SENSORS TO STOP THE ENGINE WHEN THE OIL IS LOW. THE SENSORS DO NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR AT WHAT SPEEDS. I CALLED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION IMMEDIATELY, TO WHICH WE GOT AN ANSWER TO DROP IT OFF, THEY WILL HAVE TO LOOK AT IT WHEN THEY GET TO IT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE THEY HAVE HAD WITH 2.4 ENGINE WHICH HAS BEEN KNOWN BY CHRYSLER, HOWEVER THEIR NEGLIGENCE OF NOT NOTIFYING THE PUBLIC OR CORRECTING THE ISSUE IS GOING TO CAUSE INJURY AND HARM NOT ONLY TO THE PEOPLE THAT ARE DRIVING THESE VEHICLES BUT ALSO ANYONE THAT IS IN THE WAY OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT DOES NOT STOP. I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST, AND THE DEALERSHIP SHRUGGED IT OFF. WHILE I WAS DRIVING YESTERDAY, MY CAR DIED OUT ON ME. THE CAR IS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD. I WAS DRIVING WHEN THE BATTERY LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND THE CAR SHUT OFF ON ME. I HAD ELECTRICAL POWER AS THE STERIO WAS WORKING, BUT THE ENGINE AND POWER STEERING SHUT OFF WITHOUT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I 'SHUT IT OFF' PULLED THE KEY FOB FROM THE IGNITION AND TRIED TO RESTART IT. IT HAD DIFFICULTY TURNING OVER AND ABOUT AFTER 39 SECONDS IT TURNED OVER AND STARTED. THEN EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. THE CAR DIED OUT ON ME WHILE GOING 45 MILES PER HOUR ON A VERY BUSY STREET AND I COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL TO GET INTO A PARKING LOT. AFTER THIS HAPPENED THE CAR WENT BACK TO NORMAL AND NO WARNINGS WERE DISPLAYED. I WENT TO MY UCONNECT APP AND IT DID NOT REGISTER THE ISSUE OR SAY THERE WAS ANY ISSUES ON THE CAR. IF THIS HAPPENS ON AN EXPRESSWAY THIS CAN BE DEADLY AND IT JEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!

PER JEEP SERVICE THE VEHICLE CONSUMES OIL. WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHT, IT WILL JUST CUTOFF. BOTH TIMES WE EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE LEAVING A STOP SIGN. THANKFULLY WE WERE NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WHEN IT DIED. THIS IS THE SECOND PROBLEM IN LESS THAN A YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS A BRAKING ISSUE THAT THE VEHICLE JUMPS WHEN IT YOU LET OFF THE BREAKS AND PUSH THEM AGAIN. THE DEALER DID A FIRMWARE UPGRADE ON THE TRANSMISSION BUT IT STILL HAS THE ISSUE JUST TO A LESSER EXTENT. I HAVE A CASE WITH FCA CASE #: 33883097 THEY ARE NOT RESPONDING. THEY HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR A MONTH.

I WAS TOLD THAT CHIRPING "WAS A PULLEY AND EVEN THOUGH IT WAS AN ANNOYING ISSUE AND NO SAFETY ISSUE AND SINCE IT WAS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND I LIVED SO FAR AWAY I COULD TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP CLOSER TO MY HOME". I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD NOISES WERE FROM EXCESSIVE ROAD SALT. I LAUGHED AND TOLD ADVISOR THAT I KNOW HE GOES BY WHAT HIS TECH TELLS HIM BUT WE LIVE IN NC AND THERE WAS NO SALT IN JULY. I DIDN'T CARE WHAT CAUSED IT, I JUST WANTED IT FIXED. ALL SEEMED WELL UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN IT ALL STARTED AGAIN! BACK TO SHOP ONCE AGAIN...... AFTER COUPLE OF DAYS, DEALERSHIP CALLED WITH SOME NEWS. THIS HAPPENS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, AND CAN OCCUR WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN, WHEN ACCELERATING, OR WHEN BRAKING. I HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, ON SURFACE STREETS, AND WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS.

TOOK CAR TO DEALER - PRESTON MOTORS IN NEW CASTLE, PA. EXPLAINED SITUATION. TOLD THEM "WE COULD HAVE DIED!" THEY CLAIM THEY KNOW OF NO SIMILAR ISSUES OR REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM. I PRESENTED THEM WITH PRINTOUTS OF THE NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR 2016 MODELS ON NHTSA WEBSITE. DEALER IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING AND GUESSES (DOES NOT KNOW) IT MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE STARTER BUTTON (NOT THE STOP/START BUTTON). THEY ARE REPLACING IT AND WILL TEST DRIVE IT BEFORE GIVING IT BACK TO US.

JUST AS I STARTED TO LIFT MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, THE STOP/START FEATURE SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THERE WAS A FULL TWO SECONDS BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTED. THE CROSS TRAFFIC HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING ME. NORMALLY WHEN THE ENGINE THE RE-START DELAY IS SMALL, BUT BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS SHUTTING OFF AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THIS ADDED A SIGNIFICANT DELAY BEFORE THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE. THIS IS ONLY AN ISSUE IF THE ENGINE HAPPENS TO SHUT OFF RIGHT AT THE MOMENT YOU INTEND TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC.
