We continuously receive dashboard messaging related to this defect to replace the PTU. All lights illuminate near the shift knob, too. I'm scared I will lose motive power and cause a crash without warning or lose park function to cause injury. I received the Recall Letter a year ago in January 2025. I have checked with the dealer who sold us the Jeep and they say there isn't a fix for this. I understand that Stellantis might not have an approved fix, but is there another way this recall can be repaired? The messaging is becoming more and more frequent. It seems that the input shaft snap ring needs to be fully seated to stop uncontrolled movement of the input shaft inward. Not fixing this soon will continue to damage the range shift sleeve, or create more spline damage or range fork damage. The Drivetrain Control Module DTCM needs to be reprogrammed with new software to detect and monitor wear in the PTU. With the messaging I'm getting, I need to know, too, that the Warranty Extension terms are unlimited years/unlimited mileage per the recall notice from January 2025. I feel so unsafe driving my car and will not have my mom, kids, grandkids, husband, or other passengers with me for their own safety. Help, please!
Transfer case going out. The warning light comes on when driving.
on 11/1/25 we were driving our Jeep and it malfunctioned while at a stop light. We heard a loud "clunk" and the car would barely go and if we tried to put in park, it would continue to roll. We were on top of a hill so thankfully we didnt roll back or into traffic. We could not drive the car and had to have it towed since it was not safe to drive. Our Jeep is at an authorized Jeep dealer since 11/3/25 and we were told the issue was a power transfer unit that would be covered on the recall but the part was on backorder until 12/2. Jeep would only cover $50/day for a car rental, so we had to rely on borrowing cars from others. Once 12/2 came, we reached out to the dealership and they said the part ship date was moved to 12/18! This is not a timely manner. We have made at least 3 calls to Jeep over the past week, and they keep telling us since 12/10/25 that they will let us know in 2 days...2 days pass and they transfer our case. Another two days pass and still no call from them so I called them back and they have yet to call me. We had our Jeep in the week of 11/17 or 11/24 for inspection and it passed. We noticed some lagging when we were going up hills in the 1-2 rpm range but mechanic did not notice it. Between the inspection and when it finally broke down, no lights came on and there were no warning messages. Not until the car broke down on 11/1.
Need new transfer case. Why isn’t my jeep under a recall for this problem - when so many other 2017 jeeps are ?
I've owned this vehicle for about four years now. The car has been good up until JUST after my warranty expired and now I have a "Service 4WD" light on now. This light will come on most times when I'm driving. Sometimes not right away. But when it does light up it will say lit for the remainder of the drive. I belong to an online jeep group and I'm seeing a lot of the same issue. This light will come on most of the time. Any way I really hope you can help. Thank you.
My car is jerking when driven and enabling the park brake while driving. There is a recall on other similar models. I purchased this vehicle brand new and within the same year, had the engine replaced by the manufacturer due to mechanical issues. Please assist in getting this PTU fixed not at my expense. The dealership is telling me $3k but I feel this should be covered due to other recalls and the fact that this motor was replaced shortly after purchasing the car.
I was driving and my service 4wd light came on. Took vehicle to dealership i bought it from and they done a test on it. It came back saying PTU , power transfer unit went out on it. This is what engages the 4 WD in it. I told them I seen Jeep had recalls on 2017 Jeep Cherokee like mine and they told me my vin number wasn't on list. I called Chrysler Jeep and was told the same story that my vin wasn't on list . I did receive a case number of [XXX]. I then contacted the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in Columbus Ohio and they contacted Chrysler Jeep and got no where with them as well and was told my vehicle vin number isnt on recall list. I was given a case number there [XXX] and then was told to contact you. The dealership ordered the part for my Jeep but they said its not available right now and they dont know when it will come in. Its gonna cost me $3989.24 + tax to repair it if or when the part comes in. IF THERES PROBLEMS GETTING THE PART TO FIX MY VEHICLE, WOULDNT IT APPEAR THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS THE PARTS ARE GOING BAD IN THE VEHICLES INCLUDING ALL VIN NUMBERS INSTEAD OF JUST A CERTAIN VIN NUMBER ??? I purchased a used 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk in March 2025 for $13,000. Four days later, the transfer case failed while driving, leaving me stranded in traffic and requiring a tow. The dealership replaced the transfer case using a used part, but did not disclose that to me at the time. Roughly four months later, the vehicle failed again, this time grinding gears and failing to shift properly out of Park or into Drive. It began rolling forward while supposedly in Park, and now requires the emergency brake to be engaged at all times to prevent it from moving. This makes the vehicle unsafe to operate or park and creates a serious safety hazard for myself and others. There were no dashboard alerts or warning lights before either failure. The most recent symptoms appeared suddenly in July 2025 and have persisted. The initial failure was confirmed by the dealership, but I have not had the second failure diagnosed due to lack of trust in the dealership's work. The issues are plainly visible and reproducible. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or insurance representatives. I have filed complaints with the New York Attorney General, DMV, and BBB. I later discovered that an open NHTSA safety recall on the powertrain was issued before the date of sale, but the dealership had me sign a document stating there were no recalls and failed to disclose this recall entirely. I am working with a lawyer and seeking resolution through consumer protection laws and formal complaints.
The vehicle has excessive clicking in the rear. Shifter service light required light on dash . Went to dealership and got diagnosis . They Found Left rear Axle at differential has excessive movement. Rear drive shaft center bearings are loose. Both recommend replacing rear differential. I have quotes from two different auto repair places including jeep dealer service . Vehicle only has 50k miles on it and is driven only around town. I am the original owner. I strongly believe that this issue is connected with the Recall 01C/W47. I feel my vehicle is unsafe to drive and the out of pocket cost is extremely high for a repair on a vehicle with such low mileage.
Vehicle suddenly loss power while driving and not accelerating properly. Had vehicle to stop stopped while driving and message appear where I had to put car in park before I could move again. I continue to have acceleration issues.

I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2020, IN THAT SAME YEAR I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER BECAUSE "SERVICE SHIFTER" LIGHT KEPT COMING UP. IT WOULD COME UP IN MOMENTS WHERE I WOULD BRAKE OR GAS AND THE CAR SKIPPED BEFORE COMPLETING THE TASK. I ENDED SPENDING $600 FOR THE 'REPAIRMENTS" FOR IT TO NOT GET FIXED. I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS FINE. ITS 2025 NOW AND IM STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH IT AND IT ONLY GOT WORSE. ITS MORE OF A ROUGHER SKIP WHILE BRAKING AND GASING, IT ALSO DOES IT UNEXPECTEDLY AND I GET WORRY THAT IT MIGHT CAUSED A CRASHED AT SOME POINT. IT HAS ALSO AFFECTED THE INITAL ACCELERATION OF THE CAR BECAUSE I HAVE TO PUSH THE GAS ALL THE WAY FOR IT TO GAIN MOMENTUM

I purchased a used 2017 vehicle in late 2024, and within a few months it became inoperable due to an open safety recall. I was driving on the highway with my children in the car when the vehicle stopped accelerating, putting mine and my children’s lives at risk. It was then confirmed the PTU is faulty at falling under the recall known as 01C. Via a local dealership service department. I have not had my vehicle since February of 2025 (it is now end of May 2025) The manufacturer has acknowledged the recall but has not provided a repair timeline, and the vehicle has now been out of service for over 90 days. They have denied my buyback request despite there still being no fix/resolution. To maintain transportation, I have had to rent a vehicle out-of-pocket and wait for reimbursement which has not been timely and has resulted in significant ongoing expenses causing immense financial hardship. While I was initially told I would be reimbursed weekly, the reimbursements have been inconsistent and delayed. Recently, the manufacturer changed its reimbursement parameters, requiring weekly in-person visits to the rental provider to obtain an “official receipt” — adding more logistical and financial strain.

i was driving and making a right hand turn my car just shut off I was in Drive and it would not go. I had to shift to neutral and restart the car. This is not the first time its happened. Also my service shifter light comes on and my shifter is all lite up.

Every so often when putting vehicle in park while running or at start up I get a dash message “service shifter” and all the gear lights light up and I’m unable to shift out of park. The dealership mechanic has now looked at it three times replacing the shifting bezel, wiring harness, and shift box. The issues still happens almost daily.
Notification of "Service Shifter" light came on. After reading other reviews this is a common problem and not easily diagnosed. Other vehicle owners noted that the car will just stop while in drive and moving! Is this a major safety issue. Others states this is a recall item? Please advise.
4wd light has been on along with engine light. Took it to a mechanic but and a problem with cylinder 2 came up and they checked it and everything was fine. t'll sometimes slightly roll in park before perking to a stop. While driving it'll sputter sometimes.
There are 3 things: sometimes when I go to start my jeep, it will start and cut off. Secondly: my rear back up camera keeps going in and out. I’ve had it replaced and it still goes out. Especially if it rains. Lastly, my “service shifter” light pops up randomly while I am driving and all of the lights on the gear shift will light up. It will not let me upload my videos of the screen
My JEEP vehicle currently has a safety recall. My car has been in the shop for two months with no update with the recall. My vehicle currently is in the shop and is not drivable due to the PTU failure. I am currently waiting for the recall remedy. I need my vehicle for work and it is very upsetting having to wait months for repairs.
The "Service 4WD" light came on. Upon inspection, the dealership found a problem with the power transfer unit, which lines up with the recall. I have been informed by the dealership that the replacement part may not be in until May of 2025 due to a backorder.
SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING LIGHT
I am not sure what is failing but I was driving on the highway when all the sudden it lost power and when I pressed the gas to try and get back up to speed it acted like there was no power at all the started to kick in very slowly. This was extremely dangerous and when I got off the highway it did it more again. I believe this would fall under the PTU recall but I've looked, and it's not listed as my vehicle is included in the recall.
I had my 2017 Jeep repaired at the mechanic on January 30. I drove it straight home from the mechanic and within five minutes the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The service provided was tires, struts control arms, and of course placing the tire sensors on the car, no electrical work and no prior incidents of electrical concerns. The car is a total loss. It started in the engine compartment. I'm sure and burned all the way through the backseat.
I was driving on the highway and I lost the ability to accelerate after getting a pop noise and was forced to pull over. The car had begun to rev up on its own then I wasn't able to accelerate at all, I could hear the engine moving but the wheels weren't getting power. I had the vehicle towed to a dealership ship and authorized payment on all the necessary inspections to determine if the incident had to due with the ptu recall. The service department said it's most likely the recall but I'm out of luck because they can't officially say it is because then they works have to provide me a rental. They then tricked me into going to the dealership to look at cars that weren't there and tell me I need to call there customer service line, after almost a month of trying to get any information out of them I finally got an email back saying nothing and thanking me for being a loyal customer! The car has been out of commission for almost a month now and it's effecting my ability to do my job and live my life. I'd appreciate a rental until this is resolved but would prefer for them to buy out the pre-incident value of the car so I can move on with my life. The incident is very clearly what is stated in the recall notice for my 2017 Jeep Cherokee.
My car shuts off when I go over little bumps and light comes on saying press break and shift into park. Then it doesnt start right away but eventually starts again. Also when I go over little bumps my interior lights turn on.
4wd not working and now the speedometer keeps blinking
Driving on the highway I was alerted with a warning on my dashboard display to "Service Shifter". At the same time all of the gear symbols illuminated red and stayed on. I did a web search regarding this issue and found this is happening to a very large number of Jeeps like mine and suggesting I fill out this form.

I need to replace the power transfer unit already on a vehicle with 70,000 cost $3500 there are 850 PTU on backorder with no ETA this is not acceptable I’m told to drive my vehicle until I can’t or buy a new vehicle. I READ ONLINE THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL W47 / NHTSA 20V-343 but I received no notification. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
UNKNOWN Airbags did not deploy when struck by a semi that crossed the median and hit me then pinned me against guardrail that was also damaged/destroyed.
Service shifter light goes on just put a lot of money in this car and nothing but a problem
I closed the trunk door but the indicator on the dashboard is still saying that the lift gate is open. I checked to make sure that nothing was blocking it's way. There was no prior indications.
After starting my Jeep and driving it down the road for about 10 minutes the dashboard gave a warning to(service the shifter) all lights illuminated red. I pulled over and turned the Jeep off and it went away but has done it several times since and also happened multiple times before. I bought the car used and no warranty’s. Multiple people have stated online that they are having the same issues. Along with transmission having problems also. Please help us out and put out a recall. Apparently it’s a concern due to all the people reporting it online.
Service shifter light displays randomly with PRND all light up. Goes away if you turn the car off remove key and restart. Have taken it to a technician in the past, they said they couldn't tell us anything.
I was driving up bridge in morning rush traffic suddenly without warning lost drive cv axel on passegner side broke and had to be towed. I called 911 and the police tried to put car in drive and car would just roll back and it almost went into the unit. when the car suddenly stopped I was just lucky no one ran into me, I was in the middle of the road & could not move the car.

A message appears on the gauge panel stating "SERVIVE SHIFTER." This started happening intermittently since November 2020. It is now happening every time the Jeep is driven. I am unsure if this will cause a safety issue at some point or not as the car seems to drive normal even with the message.
This past year my 2017 Jeep Cherokee has started to randomly turn on the Service Shifter light and at the same time all the shifter lights turn red. The transmission starts acting differently as well when it comes on. If I pull over and shut the car off and then turn it back on it will be normal again. I cannot bring this into the dealership as my warranty is no longer available and I will not pay loads of money for them to tell me nothing.
I have a 2017 JEEP Cherokee North edition. All of the lights lit up on my gear shifter console and then a warning displayed on the dashboard saying SERVICE SHIFTER. I have never heard of this nor has any dealer or mechanic. My car just shut off mid drive, luckily I was pulling into a parking lot. I parked the car and shut it off. After a few minutes I turned the key and no lights were displayed and I drove it home. This was very concerning. If I had been on the highway it could have been dangerous to myself and others. I am afraid of this happening again.
Occasionally when driving vehicle will receive alert to “service shifter” all lights on shifter turn red. I was advised by dealer they have never heard of issue but when I look online there is hundreds of people with the same issue. It is possibility that shifting function can be compromised at any time with this issue.
My service 4wd light came on 6/22 and I had it replaced m. The dealership where it was done said only a 1 year warranty. Now as of yesterday light is on again with same code so once again PTU needs to be replaced again. I can’t afford this twice in less than 2 years why can’t Jeep help solve this or do recall. I keep getting a “service shifter” message on my dash board and ask the great lights light up. When taken to get inspected or fixed, the message disappears and nothing can be done. When they check the car , no error codes pop up. But I keep getting this message and I’m not the only one.
Service shifter notification/warning comes on randomly. When this warning is on, all of the lights on the gear shift light up (p,r,n,d). The engine feels like it is slipping, and the vehicle will drive slowly & is very loud. The gas pedal can be pressed completely to the floor and the car will not accelerate fast enough. The airbag and parking braking notification flash as well. Check engine light comes too.
A few months ago, I was at a slow speed, looking for a parking space, when I set the car in parking it made a weird noise and did not stop. After that issue, an indicator light appeared on the board: SVC-4WD. After this, the indicator light came on almost every day. I took the Jeep to the auto repair shop where I usually go, they ordered the piece and had to wait for weeks. I saw on this website that this issue has a recall in several units. I just hope I can get a refund. I'm attaching the invoice.
As I was driving all the lights on my [XXX] gear lit up. On my dashboard, it said service shifter. Well, I continued driving. My truck started to slow down a D kept flashing on my dashboard. I had to pull over to the side as the truck was coming to a complete stop. I turned off the ignition waited a few minutes. Turn my truck back on and I was back on the road. I purchased 2017 Jeep Cherokee from Jim Riehls Friendly dealership 2/2022. On 5/2023, the parking brake engaged while I was pulling out of my driveway and I blocked on coming traffic in my neighborhood. Called a tow truck and took to my mechanic (Kay's Auto Shop). They recommended taking to Jeep dealership as needed "a code check for electronic park brake failure". Jeep was able to drive to dealership. Dealership evaluated Jeep and asked if I had "driven into a lake"? There was water under the rear mat in spare tire area from unknown leak. I have never seen or heard a leak from sunroof or rear hatch. Dealership offered to fix problem but would be charging me to find leak. Representative said up to $4,000 and not guaranteed. I drove Jeep home. When I went to drive to doctor's appt., parking brake was engaged again. I am a 58 y/o new widow and I don't trust this vehicle. I believe it to be unsafe and unreliable. When starting my jeep my service shifter light comes on. I shut my engine of and the light goes off. Next morning start my engine service shifter light come on. I have to restart my jeep 5 times before the light goes off. I've called a jeep dealership and they inform me that I'm the third person within the last week to inquire about this information.

My service shifter light stays on almost all the time. The gears PRND are all red lights.
At random times, the vehicle will notify of a "Service Shifter" message that pops up on screen. The lights that indicate which gear the car is in all light up-park, neutral, drive, etc. Every light turns on and the notification shows up on the screen where speedometer is located. This is concerning-it has happened multiple times, if I turn the car off and back on, the notification goes away. However, it always comes back a few hundred miles later. I drive a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, and bought it in 2019 with only 16,000 miles on it. The notification first came up when I hit 20,000 miles and has persisted ever since periodically. If you search "Jeep Cherokee service shifter" you can find NUMEROUS forums where people have reported the same issues. It is clearly an issue that needs to be looked into further. I have already filed a safety problem before, and nothing was done about it. I recommend looking into this issue further, and googling the issue as well-there are far too many people reporting the same problem and there has been no recall to be issued.
While driving and once when shifted into drive the service shifter light and warning has came on and all the lights by the shifter light up. I had to stop and shut the vehicle off and turn it back on. The most recent time I had to shut it off and turn it back on for it to go off
When I shifted vehicle to reverse a message of “service shifter” came on dash screen. No accident resulted but felt unsafe as to what would happen if not serviced. Mechanics that have been contacted has never heard of service shifter message. Have not been able to reproduce message, when started vehicle again message was gone. No other warning lamps, messages or no symptoms.
Service shifter warning comes on multiple times while driving
Every time it rains, water leaks into the rear of the vehicle through the ceiling and cracks on the side. As a result, water is soaking through the ceiling, rear speakers and trunk. This is causing mold and deterioration of all parts below the spare tire and is a safety issue.
Front leather dash has become separated and could potentially cause adverse effects to drivers view. Potentially harmful with airbag deployment. Previous year (2014) same make and model received a recall notice. This issue should be addressed asap.
The vehicle began making a crunching/grinding sound, and lost some traction/control. It then only would go very slowly even though I was pressing the accelerator, and then the RPM meter was revving up and down even after I took my foot completely off the pedal. After turning it off on the side of the road for about 15 minutes, we were able to drive it home with no further issues. The following week when I went to have it inspected (the first time I drove it since), it made it less than 10 miles before it did the same thing and was unable to be moved this time. We towed it in to have it inspected at a jeep dealership and they confirmed it is a PTU/Transmission issue. I have a video of the second incident if needed.
I have a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and been experiencing service shifter error when all the lights on gear shift lights up in red and this time I was at home and it also flashed oil change on dash board which I just had a recent oil change and this has been an issue off and on and dealership says there is no recall but they have heard of this issue. Not feeling safe to drive vehicle unsure if my car will stop while out. I have an appointment with dealership to see what the issue is. I only have about 72,000 miles on my vehicle.

When accelerating the vehicle has a hard shift every now and then that’s very noticeable. Seems to be slipping or having trouble shifting occasionally when trying to get up to speed.

Gear shifter errors and brings up "Service Shifter." Vehicle has to be completely shut off to clear error. Whewn the notificaion appears vehicle chages gears roughly and doesnt initiate park. Error has happend on highways, city street, or whenever the vehicle is placed into drive. Service shifter warning continuous for 12 months. Recalled on the 2017 Grand Cherokee but this is am issue with the Cherokee latitude. This is a very serious safety issue & needs recalled for more vehicles!
We first noticed the "svc fwd'' warning light. Intermittently at first and going off after driving a mile or so. We were first told it was probably a wiring problem, possibly a worn and exposed connector or a bad fuse but neither was found. Only after the ''svc fwd'' light started to remain on, did we have a diagnostic run and then were told the PTU had gone out and that this is a known common problem with Jeep Cherokee's 2014 - 2017.In fact, so bad a problem, it warranted a recall. Thousands of jeeps are having this problem but the recall is VIN specific. Ours is a 2017 and is NOT on the recall although it is now dangerous to drive. We are essentially paying for a vehicle we cannot drive and have been waiting over 5 weeks now for a replacement PTU. Even so, some of the replacement PTU's are ,themselves being recalled for being faulty. Our warranty has run out. The mileage is now just over 60,000 and now we feel we are being pushed to cover the cost even though this is a known faulty part.
My Power Transfer Unit is bad on my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. My light came on that says service 4WD. I took it to the Jeep Dealer who states that my Jeep showed a code c14a7-97 and it said my PTU is bad.
Trouble with power transfer unit and dealer mechanic said it needs to be replaced. Noticed there has been a recall involving other vehicles and was concerned that about my jeep Cherokee and the information from the dealer mechanic today.
Our 2017 Cherokee 46k displays “service shifter” and all lights on the shifter go red. The first time this happened (summer 2020) the dealership Hopkins, MN told me not to drive the vehicle and to bring in for service. They were not aware of this issue which I don't believe now. The appointment was 4 weeks out and once the dealership looked at vehicle as lights were off they could not diagnose. 2nd time this happened was not able to get into dealership that day. 3rd time this happened (7/22/2022) I immediately called the dealership on issue and they refused to look at vehicle the same day and told me to bring in on Monday 7/25/2022. Next day the lights did not come on. each time I call the Jeep dealership they give me a different response. Don't know if its safe to drive the vehicle in this state. There should be a recall on this issue.
The incident happened in a parking lot. Backing out of the parking space, there was a delivery truck parked right behind me. Backing out of my parking space, I hit the bumper of the truck (no damage to the truck). As I pulled back into my parking space the vehicle accelerated very rapidly in a distance of approx. 25 feet; the acceleration seemed "Hell cat" like. Slamming my foot on the brake did not help. The vehicle then hit a brick retaining wall deploying multiple air bags and causing enough vehicle damage that the insurance company declared it totaled. It is amazing that the vehicle hit the brick wall with enough intensity to deploy the air bags and cause considerable front end damage after traveling such a short distance (approx 25 ft). The vehicle is in the insurance company's possession. As such, I do not have access to the vehicle. Had the brick wall not been there, the vehicle could have hit other vehicles or pedestrians and I was lucky to only have minor bruises and abrasions. There was no warning what so ever that this was about to happen.

My vehicle will not move at a stop light and the hand brake will come on by itself. Also the start/stop warning light continues to come on after driving for several miles.
Hello, what I am trying to find out is if the NHTSA has ever got notification or investigated what folks call the Jeep Death Wobble. We just got the Jeep and are looking to flat tow the vehicle behind our Motorhome and folks tell us that Jeep issued a Service Bulletin regarding the death wobble and would require modifications to the electrical system to resolve the problem. Is this an issue that your organization would have investigated and made Jeep/Mopar aware of the Death Wobble Issue. My second question Is that your web site shows that you have over 800 complaints regarding this vehicle and was wondering how I can read some of them. Thanks very much We have not experienced this issue yet but trying to find out more info about the Jeep Death Wobble before we proceed with any repairs etc regarding this issue.
The service shifter light came on and the mechanics cannot find any logical reason why but it does not allow me to see what speed I am going when it is on.

Engine and car was not warming up with remote start. Finally check engine light comes on. Code P0128 thermostat. Repaired 1/28/2021 @ 85762 miles. All antifreeze replaced. $600+ repair. 2/1/2022 same observed failure of engine to warm up during remote starts. 2/6/2022 check engine light comes on with code P0128. Again, thermostat failure. Miles 111,000. This appears to be a repetitive symptom of cherokees 2014+ with 2.4L engines. This can cause serious engine damage.
Message came up saying Service Shifter and all lights on shifter turned red. Happened several times. Made appointment to have it checked. Was told I needed new shifter and the part would take 7 to 10 days (took 10) and that I should not drive it as it could lock up in gear. After researching on line it appears this is a problem for many people and does not appear to be a recall item with so many complaints. It has been repaired costing nearly $1,000. I think this should be reviewed with so many others having the same problem.
While driving down the street, my vehicle has started to automatically shift into neutral and the warning message, "must brake before shifting into gear" appears on my dash. I have to coast over to the side of the road in neutral, shift into park and turn my vehicle off before trying to restart. This has happened 4 or 5 times while I am actually driving down the road. When it is appearing to drive "normal" it has a warning message of "gear shift error" on the dash. So I paid a local mechanic to replace the entire gear shift component and my vehicle switched into neutral while I was driving again the next day. I am so nervous I will get into a wreck from this continuing to happen while driving my toddler around. I have not driven it since this happened right after picking it up from the shop. I then found a website listing a recall for my same year and make/model describing exactly what is currently happening with my vehicle. I called a local Jeep dealership about the recall and they told me since there was not a recall attached to my VIN number, they could not honor the recall. I am reporting this to you now to try and get my vehicle acknowledged and repaired under the recall. The gear shifter bezel and wiring all malfunctioned while I was driving. After reading up on the issues seems like this is a very common problem for jeeps. All lights on the shifter were lit up and I was unsure as to what gear I was in. This can be a major issue for any driver and should be recalled nationwide for fixing.

I bought a 2017 Jeep Cherokee latitude two weeks ago by the time I drove it home the service shifter light came on. I bought this car and it was certified free of defects this has happened a half a dozen times now I called the dealer and told them about it and I saw what the fix was online. The fixe is to put in a new shifter bezel and a new wiring harness. The dealer refuses to do this and the vehicle is certified what can I do?

When I travel (on a straight road like Interstate 5 in Washington and Oregon) for more than 3 hours, I get nauseous, dizzy, and do not feel well for hours afterwards. This has been an on-going scenario. I had asked my mechanic to check the AC system, clean all of the vents, and replace the filters and it still did not fix my reaction to driving in the car or being just a passenger. This is unacceptable! Please recall and rectify this hazardous situation immediately among all owners of a 2017 JEEP. Why it is always in the hands of the consumer to make things right? My service shifter will lock up and the gear shift will read that my car is in park, reverse, neutral, drive all at the same time. My dash will read “service shifter” however it has been doing that since I purchased it. The wheels on the car will jerk and lock up. Luckily, I am not going fast and can safely pull over. The car will sputter and act like it is struggling to go. I have had everything checked and all other recalls fixed. When I mentioned it to the service department, they said they could replace the part but it doesn’t guarantee that it will fix the issue. He gave me a quote to fix it and said the part is on back order or may be recalled soon. If it isn’t in the process it needs to be before it takes someone’s life. When I have checked social media it appears that multiple people are having the same issue.
I was driving and my car just stop on the freeway out of no where, no warning, no lights on absolutely nothing, it wouldn't start, after a couple minutes it started up again. later that day the same thing happened. Thank God an accident did not happen specially when it stop on the freeway.

Hello, In March I received a performed recall W84 for my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. A recall W84 the PCM and TCM modules. Since then I have had on the cluster a warning light which came on stating 'Service Shifter'. When this happened, all the lights on the shifter turned red. This happened when driving. This was a intermittent issue that was becoming more consistent. I went to McKevitt for reparation. It costed me $735! $360 for diagnosis, $120 for parts and $235 for labor!

THE 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY ENDED IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR SO OF COURSE I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THE SHIFTER BEZEL AND WIRING HARNESS TO FIX THE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IF I LET IT GO AND DIDN'T FIX IT, EVENTUALLY, IT WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. UPON GOOGLING THIS PROBLEM I SEE THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR JEEPS. I AM UPSET AND WONDERING WHY THIS IS NOT A FACTORY RECALL ISSUE. I DO NOT BELIEVE A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH 30,000 ACTUAL MILES ON IT SHOULD BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ROOT CAUSE. THEY CLEARED THE CODE AND LET ME LEAVE.

MY CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND I NEEDED TO SHUT IT OFF, WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON FOR IT TO RESTART. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND MY DEALERSHIP COULD NOT SEE ME FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER WEEK. ONE OF THE TIMES IT HAPPENED, MY CAR WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON AND I REQUIRED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW MY CAR. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP FINALLY LOOKE AT IT, THEY SAW NOTHING WRONG EXCEPT MAYBE I NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THEY DID THE UPDATE AND MY CAR WAS FINE UNTIL RECENTLY. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH A LINE OF CARS BEHIND ME. MY DEALERSHIP CANNOT SEE ME FOR ANOTHER WEEK AND A HALF. I TOOK MY CAR TO AN AUTOSHOP AND THEY SAW NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND NOTICED THE SOFTWARE MAY NOT BE ALIGNED PROPERLY MEANING THE COMMUNICATION IS OFF. I AM FRUSTRATED AND ANGRY. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THERE ARE NO WARNINGS WHEN THIS IS ABOUT OT HAPPEN. I FIRST GOT THIS CAR BECAUSE I WAS EXPECTING A BABY. I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE SAFE AND RELIABLE. I AM TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CHILD TO DAYCARE IN CASE THIS HAPPENS AGAIN AND SOMEONE HITS US FROM BEHIND. I WILL NEVER GET A JEEP AGAIN.

AFTER THEY RAN MORE TEST AND ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT A TOTAL OF 10 TIMES, I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, WHERE THE ERROR MESSAGE SAYS "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND THE CLICKING SOUND IS VERY LOUD. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP, HE INFORMED ME THAT THE SHIFTER WAS JUST RECENTLY REPLACED ONCE AGAIN AND THAT THE OTHER ATTEMPTS TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER WERE A RESULT OF THE REPLACEMENT SHIFTERS BEING "BAD' (DEFECTED). CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF EVERY OCCASION THAT MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED FOR THIS ISSUE, AND THEY HAVE EVEN ESCALATED THIS MATTER TO THEIR CORPORATE LEVEL TECHNICIANS KNOWN AS "STAR". I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT STAR WAS UNSURE OF THE ISSUE UPON THEM BEING CONTACTED IN REFERENCE TO THIS ISSUE. I HAVE YET TO SEE AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THIS PART, BUT OUT OF THE YEAR AND 8 MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK, I HAVE SPENT APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AND 4 MONTHS TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED FOR THE SHIFTER.

I WAS POURING RAIN. AS I TOOK A RIGHT, HEARD THE CAR GO "DING" SAW THE BATTERY LIGHT COME ON AND THEN THE JEEP TURNED OFF. I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR JUST TURNED OFF. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME. THE LAST TIME WAS JANUARY 2018 AS I WAS ENTERING I95. I TURNED LEFT AND HEARD THE "DING" AND OFF THE JEEP WENT. I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. DANGEROUS! I GOT TOWED TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER BY AAA AND LEFT THE CAR FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE RESULTS, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, WAS THAT MY OIL WAS LOW. THE CHEROKEE TURNS OFF THE CAR TO PRESERVE THE ENGINE. EVEN IF YOU ARE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY. JUST. TURNS. OFF. FIRST OF ALL, THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT. THE HUMAN IN THE CAR IS WHAT SHOULD BE PRESERVED, NOT THE CAR ITSELF. NO CAR SHOULD EVER JUST TURN OFF. SECOND OF ALL, THERE WAS NO INDICATION ON THE DASH OR ON THE UCONNECT APP THAT I WAS LOW ON OIL. AND SECONDLY, I WAS ONLY A 300 MILES OVER THE MILEAGE ON THE OIL STICKER ON MY WINDSHIELD. I HAVE HAD A LOT OF CARS IN MY LIFE AND EVEN THE REALLY OLD CARS WOULD INDICATE IF THE OIL WAS LOW. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR. WHY WOULD I THINK THE DEALERSHIP WOULD PUT MILEAGE ON THE OIL CHANGE STICKER THAT WAS WRONG? WHY WOULD I EVEN THINK THAT I WOULD NEED TO CHECK MY OIL LEVELS ON A NEW CAR? AND ONE MORE THING - JEEPS ARE BUILT TOUGH. SO WHY WOULD THE ENGINE BE THAT SENSITIVE? SO ANGRY.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN JUNE OF 2017. THE SERVICE SHIFTER ERROR BEGAN POPPING UP IN NOVEMBER OR DECEMBER OF THE SAME YEAR. IT RESETS ONCE THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. I AM CURRENTLY APPROACHING 20,000 MILES AND IT SEEMS WITH EVERY NEW MILE ACCRUED THAT THE LIGHT IS COMING ON MORE OFTEN. AFTER READING SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS REGARDING THIS ISSUE I REALIZED THAT I AM NOT ALONE. ONE PERSONS ACCOUNT MENTIONED THAT THEIR CAR WAS GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR SWITCHED TO PARK, CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND INJURY. THIS IS VERY DISTURBING TO ME. ALTHOUGH MY CAR HASN'T SHIFTED WHILE THE CODE IS ON YET. I AM WORRIED THAT ME OR A LOVED ONE (OR A STRANGER FOR THAT MATTER) WILL END UP BEING HURT OR IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

THE CAR DIED OUT ON ME WHILE GOING 45 MILES PER HOUR ON A VERY BUSY STREET AND I COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL TO GET INTO A PARKING LOT. AFTER THIS HAPPENED THE CAR WENT BACK TO NORMAL AND NO WARNINGS WERE DISPLAYED. I WENT TO MY UCONNECT APP AND IT DID NOT REGISTER THE ISSUE OR SAY THERE WAS ANY ISSUES ON THE CAR. THE INFORMATION I CAN FIND QUESTIONS IT'S SAFETY, IT SENDS ALL CONTROL SIGNALS TO ENGINE TO SHIFT AND PARK.. IT'S BEEN A WEEK ALREADY WITH REFUSAL TO PROVIDE LOANER VEHICLE. I THOUGHT MAY BE THE VEHICLE BESIDES ME STARTED DRIVING AND IT WAS MY VISION WHICH MADE ME THINK THAT MY VEHICLE MOVED BACKWARDS BUT I AM A LONG TIME DRIVER AND SOMETHING LIKE THAT NEVER HAPPENED WITH ME BEFORE. I WAS COMPLETELY SHAKEN UP, THINKING THAT LUCKILY NO VEHICLE WAS BEHIND ME DURING ALL THAT TIME.
