This safety recall is 10 months old and has not been addressed or has no remedy to date. We spoke with the Jeep dealership today, Nov. 10-2025, and they don't know when there will be a fix. This is a serious safety issue and the length of delay is inexcusable.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the message “Service Shifter Soon” was displayed. A dealer was contacted. Driving on the highway going around 60mph and my transmission disengaged and all of my sensors turned off and i had no power at the gas pedal. I was able to pull over and the warning message told me to put put it in park and turn it off in order to fix the issue
Due to the unresolved recall I have experienced alot of issues. The most terrifying is the loss of power, my jeep has just stopped moving sometimes allowing me to het to 30 mph but no more. This has happened to me 3x all of which were on the highway. I no longer have use of my 4wd, which is extremely frustrating since it was the only reason I purchased this vehicle. It has released itself from the parking position. And my "service shifter" light it constantly on. I did put my car in the shop over a year ago they "fixed" it, unfortunately it broke shortly after since it is a recalled part.

The contact stated that the message "4WD Unserviceable" was displayed. Additionally, the contact noticed that the vehicle intermittently lost motive power. While depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the power transfer unit (PTU) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. While driving the car was stalling not getting up in speed on a hill and the 4wd service came on. We took it to Jeep in Jenkintown for a diagnostics test and it was the Power transfer unit.
My Trailhawk has severe vibrations/ grinding from the PTU. When accelerating from a stop or making turn, the vehicle hesitates and vibrates from the rear which almost caused a bad accident when I was pulling out to the main road.
The car is having loss of power and issues with parking or turning at low speeds. I took it in and it needs a new power transfer case. There are metal shavings in it. I see there is a recall for 2017-2019 but the dealership is saying my vin is not affected
Regarding Recall Transport Canada Recall 2025-012, also known as Safety Recall 01C and NHTSA ID Number: 25V011000 My Jeep has the service 4WD message displayed on the dash along with the noise/vibration/grinding as described in the same recall for other Jeeps for my model year. I'm not sure if this recall needs to be expanded but I'm curious to know what the process looks like as my problem is identical to the other Jeeps effected by this recall but my Jeep isn't listed.
My wife was driving in auto on the shift knob. There was a load noise coming from under the car that sounded like medal was dragging. The dash had a warning come on that the 4wd was not working and need to be serviced. The warning disappeared but a warning light came on that t is 4wd/ser. We looked up and found there is a recall for this problem and could cause the unit to roll on its own when on a hill. Took car to dealership to have diagnosed and symptoms diagnosed it to be the same problem has the safety recall. The car year falls in to this but doesn't show up for the recall. We would like this to be taken care of under the recall and not out of pocket. I am attaching the dealership diagnostics along with info on recal .NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 25V011000 Loss of Drive Power from Damaged PTU A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. I own a Jeep Cherokee 2018 ( [XXX] ) it has less then 60k miles on it. The dashboard recently - 4WD System unavailable" lit up and remains lit. I took to non dealer for diagnosis- stated it is a known issue in Jeep Cherokee, transfer case internal failure. I verified online there is a recall for faulty power transfer (25V011000.) but my VIN is not reflected. I believe my Vin should be included in the recall and was omitted. Vehicle: 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk VIN: [XXX] Recall: Manufacturer #01C / NHTSA #25V-011 Complaint: On January 16, 2025, FCA US (Stellantis/Jeep) issued a recall (01C, NHTSA 25V-011) for 2017–2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles due to improperly seated input shaft snap rings in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). The recall summary itself acknowledges that this defect can cause uncontrolled input shaft movement, spline damage, and/or range fork damage, leading to loss of motive power while driving or loss of PARK function while stationary — both creating a serious crash and injury risk. The recall notice states that the remedy will be a reprogramming of the Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM) with software to detect excessive wear and replace the PTU if needed, along with a warranty extension. However, as of this filing, the recall status for my vehicle remains “Incomplete, Remedy Not Yet Available.” Owners are being left to drive vehicles with a known risk of sudden power loss or loss of PARK, and Stellantis has failed to provide a timeline for the remedy, a loaner vehicle, or interim safety protections. This constitutes an unreasonable delay in providing a remedy to a recognized safety defect under 49 U.S.C. Chapter 301. I request NHTSA investigate Stellantis for failing to make the remedy available in a timely manner, and to compel the manufacturer to expedite corrective action. Have had intermittent lights for 4wd problem, has an open recall for it that I got notice along time ago but still no fix
A component (Power Transfer Unit (PTU)) in my 2018 Jeep Cherokee Latitude has failed but my VIN is not included. The power transfer unit has failed. This appears to be a manufacturing defect identical to those listed under the current 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokee PTU recall. I am requesting immediate inclusion and repair under the recall provisions.

While driving, my "service 4WD" light came on, on my dashboard. I took the car to the Jeep dealership where it was purchased and always serviced. They ran a diagnostic check, and it showed I need a new PTU unit. This was on May 13th, 2025. I was told I could drive it home, but not to drive it and they would notify me when the part arrived at the dealership. I would be scheduled for the necessary repairs. The car had a total of 33,740 at that time at the dealership. It is now August 4, 2025, and they still have not received the proper part or PTU unit. They have instructed me that now, after almost 3 months, I can still drive my car, though they said I could not drive it at all except to drive it home on May 13, 2025. Never mind the fact that it could cause further damage and cause me to have an accident if it completely goes out while driving it. It has been a real inconvenience, not to mention the risk involved of having a real accident. I have never received any kind of manufacture's recall concerning this vehicle.

There is currently a recall for jeep cherokee ptu units. Our vehicle is experiencing all the same issues listed in the recall. The manufacturer claims that our vehicle does not fall in to the recall. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Driving down the Freeway when the car had a warning message please service 4wd so I pulled over but I was unable to put the car in park, all the lights next to the shifter were red and when I tried to shift to park it said please service shifter. With my foot on the brake I pushed the power button to turn the car off counted to 30 and when I turned the car on none of the red lights were lit up and all it said was please shift to park. I contacted the dealer and have an appointment Tuesday. I do know there is a current recall with the PTU that has not been remedied in a reasonable amount of time. I fear for mine and my childs safety.

The dealership diagnosed a failing PTU (power transfer unit) with metal shavings in the oil and a severe fluid leak onto the exhaust system, which presents a clear fire hazard. I’ve been told not to drive it due to the safety risk, but I rely on this vehicle to work and I have no alternative transportation. This issue is part of Recall #01C, but I was informed that Chrysler has no replacement parts available at this time. In addition to the fire risk, this issue is also causing noticeable power loss, drivetrain instability, and worsening mechanical symptoms. I am requesting immediate assistance — either a loaner vehicle or rental support — until the recall repair can be completed. Please escalate this to Chrysler Recall Support and respond promptly. I am not in a position to purchase or rent another vehicle for a defect that Chrysler is already aware of and has recalled.

After my husband started my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk today he shifted into 'DRIVE' and pulled the vehicle out of our garage. While in 'DRIVE' and with his foot on the brake waiting for the garage door to close, he noticed that a 'Service Shifter' message had appeared in the center of the dash screen. A few seconds later we both noticed that all of the red lights were lit on the gear selector console. Typically, only the light next to the letter 'D' would be lit when the Jeep is in 'DRIVE'. This is the first time that this problem has occurred on our Jeep. As we made our way to the graduation party we were attending, I did some research re this message on my phone while my husband drove. A few miles later, we pulled off the road, shut the engine off, and 30 seconds later re-started the vehicle. This cleared the message and also all of the red lights on the shifter console. When he shifted into 'DRIVE' only the light next to the 'D' was lit. The problem did not show up again today but I wanted to file this report after reading online that this same problem has been occurring for many years on various JEEP models.

Service 4wd came on. Has been on. Jeep dealership said the switch was bad, replaced and still on. Since then it has turned off while driving 6 times. Now all the time in traffic and when I try to park it will say service shifter. I contacted stellantis directly about this and the supposed recall they announced, but has no fix. They said it isn't their problem it is on the dealer. Not acceptable to make a car that I have to force myself daily not to be in an accident with. Most recent was today. Car died and stuttered to a stop in someone's yard. Power assist stearing goes away! And it is 2wd now.
While driving my vehicle, the vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating. I pulled over and when I put it into park it felt like it was the transmission. However, I had the transmission inspected and there were no issues. Prior to the happening the "service 4WD" light kept coming on. After the incident, the vehicle could not be driven over 45mph, the steering was so stiff I could hardly turn it, and every time I put the vehicle into drive or park it would feel like the transmission was about to drop.

Jeeps are currently recalled for PTU for 2017-2019 models. Symptoms in clude "Service 4WD" message on the dashboard, unusual noises, vibrations, or changes in how vehicle drive. My Jeep is a 2018. I am not sure why my VIN is registering as 0 recalls. My Jeep is stopping in mid drive. It has stopped on the expressway and street. This is dangerous.

The oil filter housing on this vehicle is dumping oil from the back. I have had an issue with it not wanting to go over 35MPH and sounds like a misfire in my car it has had sort of an odd sound when turned on I have had to park it to avoid having any further issues but was informed that the particular part always malfunctions in Chrysler vehicles and yet no recall has been issued it seems sort of strange when the part and labor could cost over $800 to fix
Power Transfer Unit is bad. Vehicle 4WD light came one and after getting it diagnosed at Jeep Dealership, they determined that my PTU had a code C14A7-97 | Stored. PTU Motor-Component or System Operation Obstructed or Blocked. The PTU part alone costs close to $2,000 alone. With labor at the dealer I’m at approximately $2,500. Vehicle is not safe to drive due to 4WD system stalling when attempting to accelerate and kicks.
Manufacture can replace whole PTU unit and not just the snap ring. Issue the recall based on shaft and snap ring incompatibility engineering intolerances resulted in complete PTU unit being replaced. There is a remedy if you replaced the whole PTU unit. Car comes out of gear and rolls freely. Park does not work properly!
The SERVICE 4wd light came on at 206,000 miles in February . Had mechanic put code reader on and stated that the PTU is faulty. Then the service shifter light is on as well in February at 206,000 miles. It is a 2018 jeep Cherokee latitude. When checking recall my vehicle has no recall on it.

The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
2018 Jeep Cherokee has service shifter appearing multiple times in the last 2 months. It has lasted up to 3 days before resetting. My jeep has 78K miles and I'm the only owner. My jeep has randomly shut down completely while driving 65+ mph. When I restart it, the transmission makes a jerking motion and the rpms accelerate rapidly. Upon investigation I'm finding this is a HUGE problem with this model year, along with 2017 & 2019. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED before someone dies from this jeep being in an accident with little to zero time to recover power!
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while idling at a stop light, the vehicle rolled backwards. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. In October 2024 I brought my car into the dealership because my 4WD service light had come on. Upon diagnosis they told me that I had to get my PTU motor and actuator replaced. Recently I have discovered that there has been a recall #25E-003 that matches my same issue that my PTU motor and actuator went bad. When I looked up my vin # [XXX] it said that my jeep did not have any recalls. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
"Service 4WD" light on the dashboard. 4WD will not disengage which from what my mechanic says is caused by issues related to the transfer case / faulty actuator
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V011000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power transfer unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. Service shifter message appears on screen over speedometer. All the gears light up red on the shifter. Unable to change gears unless you turn off the car and restart. Happens multiple times per year. When you search the internet this is a common occurrence and nothing is being done about it.
My "Service 4WD" light started going on and shutting off and then it would come back a few weeks later. No incident occurred when it started. A few months in, it went to a solid light. I took it to the dealership to get it diagnosed and was told the "range shaft splines had damage" and that I would need to replace my PTU. 3 days later, FCA came out with a recall for my exact car but my VIN wasn't listed in the recall. Now it's making a weird vibration noise, and I lost acceleration while driving on my lunch when I was turning left at a light. I tried to accelerate but it wouldn't go any faster than 20-30mph. So I pulled over, shut the car, off and turned it back on and it went back to normal.
Starting in early 2021, I had my Jeep serviced, and noted a constant banging noise and feeling while driving my car. It was inspected (for lots of money) and test driven. I was told the noise is "normal." As time went on, it progressively got louder, more vibrating, and more frequent. I noted this as a continuing concern--I was told "it is normal for this vehicle." I just spoke with the dealership again, in light of the Transfer Case recall (25V011), and when he looked at my history, he said I needed to immediately call Mopar. Because there is not one moment my car isn't banging while it's in "drive," he said it was a serious issue and I shouldn't wait for the "parts to be available." He also apologized that I was told several times that something like this is normal. I called Mopar today and spoke with "Kate" at 1:29 PST on 1/29/2025. She noted the lack of parts and a plan. When I explained that my car has active issues she said, "let me transfer you to the recall department." I thought Kate was in the recall department! She then transferred me to the original calling system, and I got nowhere. So I am emailing you to inform you that my vehicle has a constant banging noise consistent with your recall, based on a Jeep dealership's assessment and my brief call with Kate at Mopar. It was also noted by one of Jeeps' service techs, today that I should contact Mopar for immediate next steps; that he believe my vehicle could immediately become catastrophic. Mopar provided me with no additional remedies or steps. This is my sole mode of transportation and I live in a rural, hilly community. Legally, I need to document my attempts to remedy this, in the event that the vehicle does harm or kill someone--because, as noted in the recall and at the Jeep service center, even park can fail and run someone over.
Cracked Oil housing pump failure Fuel tube leak The car shifts while in drive it jumps like it gets stuck in a gear.
Power take off unit (PTU) failed, causing loss of power while driving.
PTU failure.
Oil leak found on driveway. 2018 Jeep Cherokee Limited taken in for an oil change and diagnosis. Jeep Cherokee has oil leaking into the oil filter housing. Oil filter housing is plastic and needs to be replaced with a metal housing and new gaskets, along with a coolant change and oil change. This appears to be a common failure. Repairs are costly.
# 1 PTU went out and can not get it repaired at the dealer parts not available. # 2 got stuck in snow storm on the way home and had to spent the night in a rural area as four wheel drive stopped working. #3 yes it has been confirmed by a independent Jeep etherized shop and there were no warning lights.
Complete power failure of the vehicle occurred while driving on the highway. Vehicle stalled while in a driving lane, and the driver was not able to recover onto the shoulder. Huge safety risk. After towing vehicle to the mechanic, they confirmed it wasn’t a battery issue (battery just replaced 3 months prior). Appears to be a starter system failure - no warning provided. There have been similar issues from other owners of this make and model.
The component that has failed on my vehicle is the Power Transfer Unit that allows the vehicle to engage in 4 wheel drive. In some instances, I cannot safely navigate without access to my 4 wheel drive. In winter weather, I would be forced to use my Front Wheel Drive only increasing the likelihood of me getting stuck or losing control. I also use the 4 wheel drive on my farm land, and it is essential (part of why I bought it) for navigating the hills and turf safely. The problem was officially confirmed by an official Jeep dealership. No, the manufacturer of the part that failed has not inspected it, but it was inspected and deemed necessary to replace by a licensed Jeep dealership with certified technicians. There was no real warning leading up to the failure. Suddenly, one day, the Service 4 wheel drive light came on, flickered for a couple of days, then stayed on disabling my 4 wheel drive. Worth noting - I have done extensive research on this problem online. It is a very common failure that needs to be addressed or recalled. Jeep actually did do a recall for a portion of the PTU on models through 2017, but I have a 2018 and the problem persists for essentially every jeep cherokee model year since 2018. There are entire message boards online dedicated to this PTU failure issue. It is a very expensive repair to have done.

My jeep will stall without warning. If i turn, it stalls out, brake it stalls, turn the vehicle on hit the gas to go and step off the gas it stalls. Sometimes it won’t start or it will start then stall out. It’s without warning and has had me left on the side of the road multiple times after pushing it out of the way or trying to get it to start again. I’ve had the computer plugged up to it and even the mechanics said they haven’t seen this before. I’ve had the individual parts to the engine tested, they work just fine such as alternator. I will just randomly lose power while driving. I also have the random Gear Shifter Error that it seems every Jeep owner is going through.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, or while parking, the gear selector was depressed and all the gears were highlighted on the selector, making it unclear what gear was selected. The contact also stated that the "Service Shifter" message was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

SVC 4WD light and clunking noises code C14A7-97-Rear differential and ptu spline failure and replaced at 34,870 miles. Now 71,060 miles SVC 4WD light on and code is again C14A7 rear differential and spline failure. And was told this time the 48 month warranty on the parts has expired. Its been 52 months. I purchased this 2018 in 2017. Why is this not recalled like the 2017 for the ptu and differential?
Car made a noise and the service 4wd came on. The shop I went to told me it was PTU and that when he called Jeep they told him it should’ve been a recall with how many they do daily. My Jeep is well maintained and is a 2018. Jeep should be at fault to fix this
Approximately 3 weeks ago had SVC 4WD light came on. I took it to my mechanic and was told they couldn't diagnose it because a special subscription has to be paid for to access what the Jeep code is. Was able to find a mechanic that could diagnose the Jeep code, turns out the PTU needs to be replaced at an estimate of $5,000. In researching it appears many others have this same problem and is a safety problem for those driving the car. Of course, part is back ordered so that indicates this is a major problem with Jeep.
Vehicle started to make “knocking” noises from front axle when going over bumps. Brought to a shop that stated the ball joints just needed to be greased up. The sound returned within 24 hours and become continuous while driving. The car begins to shake and feel unstable at speeds above 45/50mph. Brought vehicle in that day to a new shop, which diagnosed the problem as a faulty/broken Power Transfer Unit (aka transfer case). They advised that this piece was under a safety recall for my make and model. Upon contacting a local dealership, they informed me that the safety recall does not apply to my specific VIN, and that the part is on national back order. The second shop advised that I can still drive the car with the broken part, however I believe the car may pose a safety risk in its present form- especially considering the part in question is under safety recall for my make and model
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a chemical odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the front passenger’s side half-shaft assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V494000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was 75,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was running, the "Parking Brake On" and "Remove Parking Brake" messages were displayed; however, the parking brake was not engaged. The contact stated that several days later while the vehicle was running, the vehicle started rolling while the gear shifter was in park(P). The contact was able to stop the vehicle and the vehicle restarted. The contact stated that while driving later that day, the vehicle was not accelerating above 20 MPH. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a drivetrain failure, and it was recommended that the transmission, transfer unit, and rear differential be replaced. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 20E037000 (Power Train), and the contact was informed that the power transfer unit serial number was included in the recall, however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The shift lever lights are all illuminated red, the shift Service message appears on the dashboard, the error appears and disappears.
The rear differential has failed on my Jeep after 42,000 miles. I tow this this vehicle behind a motorhome and it could have locked up or thrown parts and differential oil on the highway. It would be worse if it exploded while driving at highway speeds. It was replaced but failed again after only 900 miles. There are no parts available, Jeep has also changed suppliers, again with no parts available. It is now nearly April, with no ETA for a replacement part. There should be a recall on this part, as there are multiple incidents of similar failures on various Jeep websites. I paid $1,000 to Jeep out of pocket, as my powertrain warranty was 4 months past expiration. I contacted NHTSA in January about this and have not received a response as of yet.
All lights on shifter light up red (P, R, N, D) and an error message of "SERVICE SHIFTER." Come to find a lot of people are having this same issue.
Vehicle is driving as usual with no odors or sounds. 4wd unavailable light came on. The code for this states PTU is bad and must be replaced. Dealer quote is $5270 to replace. Apparently there was a recall on these for my car just not my year. Obviously there is a huge issue with this part. This vehicle is well maintained. There should be a warranty to cover this or the very least we should get a reimbursement. Please look into this. Also read the keep forums as this is a common issue. I thought keep was supposed to be a hearty vehicle. Very disappointed. I will be happy to provide receipt once I get my car back from dealer
My 2018 Jeep Cherokee with 88K miles on it. I heard a loud popping sound, and my car was jerking. Took it into the dealership for maintenance and I need to replace the rear diff and axle shaft. This could have locked up worse and caused an accident. I see that there are more complaints about this same problem.
At exactly 37000 miles my service “shifter light” comes on every 4-5 days. I’ve noticed in the warmer months it comes on more frequently. During the cold winter it came on twice. It’s becoming warmer again and it’s popping up often. My husband has a 2017 jeep Cherokee with the same exact issue. Our dealership gave us no answer to this problem. Not sure why, i just hope this doesn’t cause a major issue or hopefully a recall soon to fix this!
2018 Jeep Cherokee The power transfer unit malfunctioned and had to be replaced. A warning light indicated that there was an issue. It cost more than $5000 and the part was on back-order for 2 months. The dealer explained that they had so many power transfer unit replacements they could not repair my car unit the back-ordered part arrived. I also paid $2000 or more in rental car fees during that time. This all occurred only a few months after the manufacturer's warranty had expired. The repair was completed at the dealer. I am filing this complaint because Jeep Cherokees from 2017 had a recall for power transfer units. My car was built in 2017. I believe the power transfer units in some of the 2018 Jeep Cherokees are also faulty. There are many, many posts online regarding this issue. I appreciate that you are able to look into this. Best Regards
My 4 wheel drive service light came on. I took it to the dealer and they said it will cost me 4000 dollars to be fixed , I checked on the internet and this has been and on going problem for the jeep cherokee car since 2014, In fact the ptu problem has recalls on some of these cars. I called the dodge corporation and they said my car was not under warranty and has not been recalled My car need to be recalled, this is a flaw in the cars design . If problem is not addressed sudden lost of motive power can potential cause vehicle to crash without prior warning. Lost of park function is at stake and can lead to unintended vehicle rollaways. The car is at the dealership to be fixed
Service shifter light comes on intermittently. Have noticed a “catch” that occurs at times when accelerating when the light is on but not every time.
My 2018 Jeep Cherokee rear differential started making an intermittent noise at about 35,000 miles. Now at 42,000 miles the dealership I purchased it new from has determined that the differential needs replacing. It is four months past the 5 year/60,000 mile power train warranty. There are no repair parts available, it is on back order with no ETA. This condition indicates to me that there may be a part recall in order for the rear differential failures, as there are no parts available in a nationwide search by my Jeep representative. Is there a history of known failures?
Failure of PTU while driving. Seems to be the same issue with the 2016-2017 that currently has a recall
Service 4WD light came on. Vehicle was diagnosed at dealership and they advised the PTU needs to be replaced. This poses a serious risk for injury.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost PTU functionality. Additionally, the service footwell drive warning light was illuminated. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V302000 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the front drive shaft and the rear end of the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The Service Shifter message comes on replacing the speedometer display on the dash. All of the LED's on the shifter bezel light up when it occurs, so you can't tell the gear you are in. It has been happening more frequently lately and began around 3 years ago. The only way to reset it is to put it in PARK and shut the car off and restart it. I am on the Jeep Cherokee Club and see this quite often on their forums. It happens now every 2nd or 3rd time I drive it. Thanks.
I believe the shifter bezel is faulty. When pulling out of my drive way backwards a service shifter light came on and caused me to get stuck sideways and having multiple cars nearly tbone be because the hazard lights wouldn’t turn on after. I can’t even drive because of this incident I don’t feel safe in this jeep!!! I called jeep in Elk Grove California and they never heard of it, however I’ve found over 500 issues on Reddit and other forum sites of people having the same issue but more at 16,000 miles! No because I don’t have the money to fix their faulty product. The light “service shifter” appeared right when I put it into drive then everything went to [XXX].
It is my understanding that the PTU systems in Jeep Cherokee latitudes is an ongoing issue with them. If this fails I could lose power of my vehicle, which in my opinion is a safety issue. I found out today that mine is going bad and there isn’t a recall on the 2018 models. This could cost me thousands for an issue that Jeep should’ve fixed with past models that have had the same problems. I bought this vehicle a few years ago with 78,000 miles and it now has around 124,700 miles. I would think if Jeep cared about the customers that are buying these vehicles then they would want to make sure they’re safe. So basically the complaint is that there isn’t a recall on the 2018 models. Please help!!!
My Jeep has started to massively consume oil. I can only go roughly 1500-2000 miles before needing to add oil to my vehicle. I’ve taken it into my mechanic’s shop twice and they’ve been unable to fix it. Once was Nov of 2022 where they just did an oil change. I brought it back on Feb 13, 2023 because it was completely dry/devoid of oil and had to be towed to their shop. The car would not turn on due to no oil. They replaced the crankcase ventilation valve to attempt to fix the oil consumption issue and did another oil change. They also advised I bring it to the dealership for the oil consumption issue because there was an open recall on it, which I did on Feb 23, 2023. Chrysler reprogrammed the Powertrain Control Module. Still consumes oil at an alarming rate. My last oil change I had 77,218 miles on my car and I had to add two quarts of oil before my current oil change at 80,700 It was already extremely low at 78,500. My concern is that there’s no telling when it runs outs of oil and it just dies in the middle of traffic. On freeways. In turn lanes. There’s no warning. One second it’s running and the next it’s just DOA despite proper maintenance on the vehicle. That’s dangerous when you’re on a busy freeway like I-45 in Houston at 5pm. Or at a red light and suddenly you have a dead car. Being a week overdue on an oil change is one thing but for it to be bone dry to the point that the vehicle cannot even operate is alarming.
Transmission seemed to go into neutral momentarily while driving at highway speed, causing engine to rev and loss of power to drive wheels. Problem occurred on four separate occasions on approximately 300 mile drive. There were no warning lights except a notice that cruise control was automatically turned off on the one occasion that it was active when the failure occurred. I was towing a trailer weighing approximately 3200-3300 lbs. and in semi-manual shift mode in 5th and 6th gear when problem occurred. Vehicle has not yet been taken to dealer.
The shifter service came one
Power transfer unit went out. While I was driving lost power to all wheels and luckily I was able to avoid a wreck and have no parking on trans mission.
The SERVICE SHIFTER light comes on when the vehicle is put in DRIVE. The first time it happened was about 1 year after purchase (March 2019). I found out there was a recall for a part (the bezel on the shifter) associated with this and the dealer replaced it. Now the SERIVCE SHIFTER light is coming on EVERY time the car is used(at least this week)--when I back out of the driveway and shift to DRIVE. I called the dealership and they told me that most of the time, turning the car off and restarting it will clear the problem. It hasn't and I asked what they can do to fix it. They told me to bring the car in for a $200 computer diagnosis and they will go from there. I have only owned the car for a couple months shy of 5 yrs and it only has 35,000 miles on it. I informed them that since it is part of the POWER TRAIN it should be covered under warranty--they told me it's not. This is also a known problem with this year and model. I would like for JEEP to stand by their product and remedy the problem at no cost. Our household also owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and has NEVER had any issues with it.
Since the car hit 20,000 miles, the "Service shifter" light will come on randomly. The dealership has had to "replace" the shifter components twice. And now it will come on when you put the car into reverse. This is a faulty part which needs to be replaced.
The service shifter light keeps coming on. Sometimes when stopped in traffic the vehicle’s transmission will shift from drive, to some unknown position, then the engine will stall out when attempting to go forward with traffic. The car will then not start and the shifter will not allow any gear shifting to be done. Can not be put into neutral in order to be push or easily towed. This has happened 4 time within the past 18 months. Each time the dealership acts surprised and responds that they have never heard of a service shifter issue before. They tried a software update, which didn’t help. They also stated that they could replace several parts that added up to over $2000. Stated it wasn’t their problem since it is out of warranty. Yes, it is available for inspection. Always being out in risk at busy intersections due to a potential of being hit in the rear end of the car because people expect your car to be moving. Have had several cars swerve at the last minute barely missing me. And having to exit the vehicle is even more dangerous. Yes, the dealer has seen the issue along with an independent repair shop. Service shifter message is on most of the time but no one really knows how to fix it.
4WD not working. A message started appearing in December 2022 that the 4WD was not available and to have it serviced. I was shocked because the vehicle is only 5 years old. The 4WD is very important because we live up a large hill. When it snows it is definitely a safety issue to be able to get up and down the hill as well as driving on snowy roads. Without it working it could cause an accident and we could be hurt. We took it to an automotive service center to have it diagnosed. They said the power transfer unit and actuator case assembly needed to be replaced. They also said the week before they checked this vehicle they had a 2016 and 2017 jeep Cherokee that had the same problem. Both of those vehicles had recalls to fix them. This jeep is a 2018 with 79,500 miles. It was purchased in 2017 so it had to be built in 2016 or 2017. The parts used to build this had to have been defective or something. This kind of thing should not happen so my vehicle should have a recall. It's not that old plus the 4WD isn't used except a few times in the winter. I sure wasn't expecting something like this to happen. It is very much needed in the winter to keep us safe going up and down the hill and driving in the snow. I was also told there is a national back order on parts to fix this. That doesn't help when it's winter time. I could get hurt sliding down the hill or trying to go up and slide backwards! I would like a response as soon as possible if this problem will be recalled so I can get on a list when the parts are available. I shouldn't have to pay for this problem.
Was driving and "Service 4wd" came on, no change in the driving, then went off and comes back. Now I'm getting "Service shifter" no change in the driving but all the lights on the shifter (P, R, N, D, +/-) are all red and display won't move from Service shifter.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power with the "Shift to Park(P) message displayed. The contact stated that after shifting into park(P) and turning off the vehicle, she had to press and hold the Push to Start button for 30-seconds for the vehicle to restart. Additionally, the contact stated that the failure recurred daily, and that the engine revved independently while starting the vehicle. The contact made the local dealer aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was awaiting a diagnostic test and the repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000.

Service shifter light randomly comes on; vehicle has stalled several times. Sometimes hesitates when pushing gas to accelerate.
SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING -takes up full screen on vehicle cannot see any other specs of the vehicle -safety, service shifter recalls in past day to not operate vehicle. This warning randomly comes on when no problem is present. -the problem has been recreated on multiple occasions for dealer, mechanics, and friends -has not been inspected. States not sure what causes this -no other warning lamps came on and none can come on since this takes up the entire screen and places the MPH in smaller lettering at the top
This vehicle had a recall for the shifter. It went in for the recall but not long after the shifter lights are back. Every time we drive the shifter lights come on. Went back and the dealer will not fix the problem.

The contact was able to coast to the side of the roadway. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continue driving to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated he had experienced the failure three times. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

Shifter failure. All lights on shifter control panel lit (park, reverse, neutral, drive). Service Shifter message on dash cluster and message stating “must be in park to shift gears” or similar. Shifter must be replaced.
As I accelerate the vehicle shudders as if the engine is misfiring, even accelerating at low rpm’s, the vehicle acts as if the trans is slipping or engine is misfiring causing the my Jeep to jerk or shudder. I also had the engine replaced in the past due to excessive oil consumption so I would assume there shouldn’t be further issues. Not only does my Jeep not perform up to expectation , the service shifter light continues to come on and all lights on the shifter turn a solid red color. I have to turn the car off and back on for it to turn on. When taking it to the dealer, they continue to tell me that they cannot find the service shifter error when when hooking it up to the computer. The combination of issues reported with this vehicle type are only going to lead to a serious accident or death if they don’t fix these issues.
My steering system sensor light illuminated while driving and steering became tight when driving. I took it to a local Jeep dealer and it was determined that the electronic rack had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer said this is very unusual for my 2018 Jeep. My Jeep has less than 55K miles and is less than 5 years old. I am surprised it is not covered under the power train warranty. It is my understanding that 2019 and 2020 Jeep Cherokees have a recall for electronic rack failures in these models. If the 2018 electronic rack is the same in the 2018 then I believe my 2018 with less than 60k miles and less than 5 years old should be covered under a recall. Thank you.
2018 Jeep Cherokee Overland 4x4 ~ Service shifter warning light appears randomly while driving normally; has happened 2-3 times in one year of ownership. All lights for gears on shifter panel light up red simultaneously; all lights constant and service shifter message remains until vehicle is stopped and engine turned off. No lights, nor warning message displayed upon restart. Purchased vehicle at 42,675 miles and currently has 67k miles. FYI, vehicle is driven daily in city/metro area in Texas with extreme outdoor heat temps.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while parking her vehicle, the service shifter warning light illuminated. The contact stated that when the failure occurred, the vehicle would not operate as designed until the vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that the failure never occurred while the vehicle was in motion. The dealer was contacted and advised that they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 61,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Service Shifter" warning message was displayed. The dealer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to turn off the vehicle to reset the computer system; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,917.

Rear differential and power transfer unit. Under warranty but part is not available for a min of 3 weeks backorder and was not offered a loaner or rental car. Was told no.loaners available and my car is ok to drive. I drive 300 miles commute 3 days a week on interstate. I think a rental car is covered under the powertrain warranty. I also read now where 2014 thru 2017 have been recalled for this same issues. I am concerned these failing parts could be a risk to my safety. Dealer told me it was safe to drive. However stated there are metal shavings and its binding up. I do not believe it is safe to drive.
My car will randomly shut off going 60mph. I will start it back up and it will make a pop sounds and give a little gas to go and it acts like I I’m giving it more gas than I am. I have almost been hit on freeways because of this. This is the 2nd time in 2 years. I took to a dealership and was told they had to rest my motor but gave me no paper work on that
Car shuts down after seeing "service shifter"
Coming to a stop at a stop sign and the dash made a ding followed by the engine light coming on, the shifter went into park on its own, the display stated “Shift to park and then select desired gear”, lights flashed on the shifter console. Unable to drive I had to restart more than once. Car barely restarted before I was able to shift again and continue home.
The other day yet again, a “service shifter” error showed up on my jeeps dashboard shortly after I started to the vehicle. The error showed on the dash and all of the lights on my shifter turned solid red. This is a big safety issue and seems as if there could be some electrical or power train components malfunctioning internally in my Jeep. After turning the car of and then on again, the error did not come back on. This happens repeatedly every few months or so and is very concerning. I took it to my hero dealer and they stated they could find any faulty codes when running diagnostics and they was nothing they can do. This issue needs to be addressed with Jeep and a recalled needs to be issued immediately before this leads to serious malfunctioning while operating.
All of the lights came on on the shifter while driving and the dash warning stated there was a shifter problem. The check engine light was also illuminated. This issue put my child's safety at risk as she had to pull over on the side of the interstate not knowing if the car would continue to operate in drive. The car had previous problems that resulted in a sudden engine stall making her fear it was too risky to continue to drive. This problem is not rare, and Jeep should be required to fix it.
Twice so far on this particular Jeep, all of the lights on the shifter light up and on the display above the steering wheel it displays the message “Service Shifter”. The issue will go away once the Jeep is shut off and turned back on. I have researched this online and a ton of people are having the same exact issue with low mileage. This needs resolved ASAP. I would hate to see what happens if we’re driving or to get left stranded somewhere.
While driving, all lights on gear shifter all light up and message on screen will say shifter needs service. Stays on while driving. Typically occurs at night. When I start the vehicle the next morning the light isn’t on.
I keep getting a service shifter warning.
After backing out of a parking spot, I received a "service shifter" warning on my instrument panel and all the indicator lights on my shifter illuminated. After turning the car off and back on, the warning went away but reappeared mid-drive a day later. Concerned that my car may not be fully in gear, or that it might slip out of gear, I made an appointment with my dealership. After inspection, they confirmed that there was an intermittent short in the shifter and it would need to be replaced. Through my own independent research, I found countless reports of the same issue in this vehicle, which the dealership confirmed to me that it is a common problem they are aware of. If this is a common problem, and consumers are forced to spend thousands to repair the issue on relatively low mileage vehicles, it seems to me that a recall may be in order.
Service shifter and all lights on gear shifter light up
All lights on shifter console light up red and light which says "Service Shifter" shows up on dash. Reviews of this problem online is showing it to be a common problem.
I was getting a service shifter light and called the dealer and the said it was a recall it needed a system reboot to bring it in. I did. But that did not fix the problem the light is still on and after doing research it really is the wiring for the shifter. Which can cause the vehicle to not signal what gear it is in. My car had failed to to indicate which gear it has been in multiply times.
POWER TRANSFER UNIT FAILED , 2014-2017 MODELS THE SAME AS MINE HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS VERY TYPE OF FAILURE. MY 2018 WAS BUILD WITH EXACT SAME PTU ASSEMBLY. I THINK MINE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL WAS DRIVING TO STORE ON HWY 26 8 MILES WEST OF SWAN VALLEY IDAHO, CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 MPH , LOUD BANG, LOST ALL FORWARD MOTION,COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD, PUT IN PARK AND VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO DIRT ON SIDE OF HWY, BRAKED AND SET PARK BRAKE, CALLED TOW TRUCK AND VEHICLE IS AT LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP, COULD HAVE KILLED ME IF CONDITIONS WERE DIFFERENT.

DURING TRANSIT DOWN THE STREET AND ONCE THE CAR TURNED ON IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE SHIFTER COLUMN LIGHTS ARE LIT UP IN RED, THE DASH READS SERVICE SHIFTER. PLEASE HELP US AND OTHERS RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AS IT IS A HIT AND MISS WITH THE DEALERSHIPS AND JEEP STATING THAT IT IS NOT AN ISSUE ENOUGH TO CALL IT A RECALL WHEN THERE ARE DOZENS IF NOT HUNDREDS WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

AT RANDOM TIMES THE MESSAGE "SERVICE SHIFTER" APPEARS, AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER TURN RED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT A DOZEN TIME AND HAS HAPPENED WHEN IN DRIVE(ON HIGHWAY AND STREETS) AND WHEN IN PARK. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARS. FROM ALL THE RESEARCH I'VE DONE IT APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING TO A LOT OF JEEP (2014-2019) OWNERS. SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS!!!
VEHICLE IS STALLING DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION.....NO OIL INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON. BUT VEHICLE EVEN WHEN OIL INDICATOR GAGE SAYS THERE IS OIL....THE OIL IS LOW AND CAUSES STALLING. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. STALLS WHEN VEHICLE IS STATIONARY IN TRAFFIC. BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AND TO CHANGE OIL EVERY 3000. THUIS DOES NOT FIX THE UNDERLYING ISSUE. READING ONLINE THERE SEEMS TO BE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AND DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT HELPFUL WITH THIS ISSUE. NERVOUS TO DRIVE LONG DISTANCE ESPECIALLY WHEN NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATE TO LET YOU KNOW YOU ARE LOW ON OIL.

MY 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS LESS THAN 18,000 MILES ON IT AND OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST FEW MONTHS, THE SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD AND THE TREE LIGHTS WERE ALL LIT UP. I PARKED THE CAR, TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND TURNED IT BACK ON. LIGHTS AND MESSAGE WAS GONE. THIS HAPPENED ONCE AFTER THAT - ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER - AND SAME THING, I WAS ABLE TO RESET IT BY TURNING IT OFF AND ON. TODAY THE MESSAGE APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD AND WOULD NOT GO AWAY. I DROVE STRAIGHT HOME (ABOUT 3 MILES), PULLED IN TO MY DRIVEWAY AND IT WOULD NOT GO IN TO PARK OR NEUTRAL - IT STAYED IN DRIVE. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF BUT NOT EXTRACT THE KEY NOR COULD I START THE CAR AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING EVERY TIME THE WARNING LIGHT AND TREE LIGHTS CAME ON. TODAY THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET MY KEY OUT WAS TO USE THE MANUAL SHIFTER AND TRY TO REMEMBER THE SHIFTING PATTERN! I EVENTUALLY FIGURED IT OUT AND WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY. THE DEALER CAN'T TELL ME IF MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERS IT BUT WANTS ME TO DRIVE IT OVER TO THEM ABOUT 15 MILES AWAY. I AM READING THAT COST IS ANYWHERE BETWEEN $400-$1,000 AND DAYS WITHOUT A VEHICLE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTS CITING THE SAME ISSUE ON CARGURU'S WEBSITE. THIS REALLY NEEDS INVESTIGATED FOR A RECALL. THERE IS NO WAY THIS IS SAFE!! THIS IS MY ONE AND ONLY DAILY DRIVER AND I CANNOT BE WITHOUT A VEHICLE! CHECK OUT THE COMPLAINTS HERE: HTTPS://WWW.CARGURUS.COM/CARS/DISCUSSION-T68742_DS990296

MY VEHICLE TOLD ME TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND THEN PARK WHILE I WAS AT A RED LIGHT. I DID THAT AND MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. I LEFT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF BUT IT WOULD NOT RESTART. I SAT AT THE LIGHT WITH MY HAZARDS ON FOR ABOUT 2 MIN, I TRIED TO TURN IT ON AGAIN AND IT STRUGGLED BUT IT ENDED UP TURNING ON. 3 DAYS LATER AT THE SAME LIGHT ON MY WAY TO WORK THE BATTERY LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND BEEPING, MY ENGINE LIGHT TURNED, AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT TURNED ON. IT WOULDN'T LET ME DRIVE BUT 5 MPH. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. LATER THAT DAY WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP NONE OF THOSE LIGHTS WERE ON AND I WAS TOLD "THERE'S NOTHING WRONG" WITH MY JEEP. I'M SO FRUSTRATED BECAUSE CLEARLY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG.

ON MARCH 14TH WHILE SLOWING AND TURNING RIGHT ON A STATE MAINTAINED COUNTRY ROAD, THE VEHICLE ENGINE STALLED AND POWER STEERING WAS OUT WITH THE BATTERY LIGHT ON.. VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AFTER TWO ATTEMPTS AFTER PUTTING IT BACK INTO PARK. ON MARCH 16TH WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE VEHICLE STALLED AT A STOP LIGHT IN THE SAME MANNER DESCRIBED ABOVE ON US HWY 421. IT TOOK 4 ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. CURRENTLY THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT RECREATE THE STALL AND WILL BE SENDING US ON OUR WAY WITH THIS VEHICLE UNREPAIRED. MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FOUND IN A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND WILL POSSIBLE CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS.

'SERVICE SHIFTER' MESSAGE APPEARS ON SCREEN AND ALL LIGHTS ON SHIFTER LIGHT UP. GOES AWAY AFTER TURNING OFF CAR AND TURNING BACK ON. WHEN MESSAGE APPEARS, CANNOT VIEW DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER OR OTHER CAR DIAGNOSTICS. DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE IS.

MESSAGE "SERVICE SHIFTER" DISPLAYS ON SCREEN AND RED LIGHTS LIGHT-UP ALONG THE SHIFTER... OCCURS WHEN JEEP IS STATIONARY, IN DRIVEWAY OR PARKING LOTS - MULTIPLE TIMES. DEALERSHIP SAYS ITS NOT PART OF THE POWER TRAIN...? AND SUPPOSEDLY NEVER HEARD OF THIS MESSAGE....? THE CAR IS NOT SAFE AS WHEN THIS MESSAGE COMES UP YOU CANNOT MANUALLY SELECT GEARS, AND NEITHER CAN YOU ACCESS KEY INFORMATION LIKE TIRE PRESSURE, COOLANT/OIL/TRANSMISSION TEMPS, OIL LIFE, BATTERY VOLTAGE, FUEL ECONOMY, TRIP INFO. IT ALSO DISABLES THE ABILITY TO GET TO SCREEN SETUP,.

SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING ON DASH. I'VE ALREADY HAD THIS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY ONCE AND THE LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING BACK ON AGAIN. EVIDENTLY, THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FROM WHAT I'M SEEING AND IT WOULD BE NICE IF JEEP OWNERS DIDN'T HAVE TO CONTINUE TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE MANUFACTURER'S SHORT COMINGS. THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS. JUST HAD TO HAVE MY OIL RECALL ADDRESSED BECAUSE THEY CLEARLY CAN'T BUILD CARS PROPERLY. A RECALL WOULD BE FABULOUS SO WE DON'T HAVE TO KEEP FORKING OUT MONEY ON THINGS WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO.
THE "SERVICE SHIFTER" DISPLAY COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY DURING STARTUP AND WHEN PULLING IN TO A PARKING AREA. THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE PLACED IN PARK, SHUT OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED AND NO ODB CODE SHOWN IN MEMORY AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE BY OWNERS BUT DEALERS CLAIM TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS PROBLEM.

AFTER OWNING MY BRAND NEW 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE FOR A FEW MONTHS, I TURNED ON MY VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING CAME ON IN MY DASH AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY SHIFTER LIT UP. I CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN, SO I TOOK IT AND WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF, THE MESSAGE NO LONGER APPEARED. THE DEALERSHIP TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND IT SAID IT CAME BACK FINE. UPON GETTING MY CAR BACK, IT WAS RANDOMLY SHOWING THE SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE AGAIN SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TWO MORE TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND SO NOTHING WAS FIXED. I HAVE NOW OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 3 YEARS AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX THE STILL APPEARING ISSUE. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS BUT I FEAR THAT WHATEVER IS CAUSING THE WARNING TO APPEAR MAY CAUSE ISSUES. I HAVE READ THAT MANY MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. ALL THREE TIMES I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN, IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING.

WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH, MY JEEP GAVE "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND REDUCED POWER. ALL SHIFTER LIFTS WHERE LITE. I PULLED OVER AND CALL MY DEALER, THEY ADVISED ME TO TURN OFF ENGINE FOR 2 MINUTES AND RESTART MY JEEP, THIS SHOULD CLEAR IT. THIS WAS AT 34,000. IT DID CLEAR IT. IT HAPPEN AGAIN AT 35,900 MILES AND I DID WHAT I WAS TOLD THE FIRST TIME.. HAPPEN AGAIN AT 37,500 MILES, FINALLY GOT DEALER TO LOOK AT IT AND NOW THEY SAY I NEED A NEW BEZELS, HARNESS AND SHIFTER. I CONTINUE TO GET A SERVICE SHIFTER ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS 13,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM ACROSS MULTIPLE YEARS OF CHEROKEES. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM BUT AFTER A NEW BATTERY, I STILL RECEIVE THE WARNING. WARNING CAME ON WHILE PARKED, JUST AFTER STARTUP.

THE CAR WILL JUST SHUT OFF IN IDLE , SOMETIMES IT WILL START RIGHT BACK UP, OTHERS YOU HAVE TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES. TOOK IT TO DEALER A FEW TIMES AND THEY KEEP SAYING THAT IT IS BECAUSE WHEN THE OIL GETS LOW IT THIS MODEL THAT HAPPENS SO I HAVE TO GET THE OIL CHANGED ONCE A MONTH

BOUGHT MY VEHICLE 12/21/2017. HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS EVER SINCE. TOOK MY CAR TO [XXX] IN AUSTIN WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES. I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. IN NOVEMBER 2019 MY CAR BROKE DOWN AND I PAID TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IN SA SINCE THAT IS WHERE I WAS RELOCATED TO FOR WORK. BLAMED IT ON MY OIL WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY MY VEHICLE IT WAS EVEN LOW. ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN ACTING RIGHT SINCE. 5/21/2020 I WENT ON A TRIP BUT ONLY MADE IT TO WACO. VEHICLE SHUT OFF GOING 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND I ALMOST GOT HIT BY SEVERAL DIFFERENT VEHICLES BECAUSE OF IT. 5/26/2020 DEALERSHIP CALLED ME TO LET ME KNOW I WAS GETTING A NEW ENGINE SINCE MINE WAS COMPROMISED BY THE OIL IT WAS CONSUMING. NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE IT AND TEST IT BEFORE THEY WILL REPLACE IT. HAVE DONE AN INTENSIVE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH AND THIS IS A HUGE LIABILITY TO PUT MY LIFE IN DANGER FOR A TEST THEY NEED FOR THE COMPANY. CALLED THE LOCATION I PURCHASED IT AT AND SURPRISE THEY WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF IT. NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING TO MAKE IT RIGHT.*DT*JB INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

THE SERVICE SHIFTER ERROR HAS REPEATEDLY COMING ON DESPITE THE SHIFTER HARNESS BEING REPLACED TWICE, THE HARNESS BEING REPLACED AND COMPUTER UPDATES. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER TURN RED. THE CAR RANDOMLY JUMPS TO 5000 RPMS AND WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR WILL HESITATE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER JEEP ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE YEAR AND HAS RECENTLY BEEN IN THERE FOR A MONTH. *TR

PURCHASED A 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE IN MAY OF 2019. A FEW MONTHS IN TO OWNERSHIP I HAD AN ODD OCCURRENCE WHERE ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON MY GEAR SHIFT PRND WERE ALL LIT UP RED. AND THE WARNING NOTATION ON DASH SAID "SERVICE SHIFTER". IT WAS ALARMING BUT HAPPENED ONCE OR TWICE OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL MONTHS SO I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE OR MISHAP. FAST FORWARD TO MARCH OF 2020, RIGHT UNDER A YEAR OF OWNERSHIP AND THE SERVICE SHIFTER PROBLEM HAS BECOME NEAR CONSTANT. I WILL HEAR A 'DING' IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING, SOMETIMES AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE FREEWAY, THE GEAR SHIFTER WILL TURN ALL RED AGAIN AND THE MESSAGE APPEARS ON SCREEN. WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING YOU CANNOT GET ANYTHING ELSE TO COME ON THE SCREEN....FUEL ECONOMY OR SPEED, WHICH I USE REGULARLY IN MY VEHICLE. ---I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE ARE NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE AND THAT I AM OUT OF BASIC WARRANTY AND THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WOULD ONLY COVER ENGINE/TRANSMISSION, THUS NOT HELPING ME IN THIS SITUATION. AFTER HEARING THAT FROM THEM I DECIDED TO LOOK UP THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND IMAGINE MY SURPRISE TO SEE I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS ISSUE. I CAME ACROSS NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. PLEASE LOOK INTO ISSUING A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AS IT COMES ON SUDDENLY AND IS STARTLING WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING AND IT HAPPENS. IT HAS BECOME QUITE AN UNSETTLING EXPERIENCE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE THAT I HAVE OWNED LESS THAN A YEAR.
"SERVICE SHIFTER" MESSAGE APPEARS IN THE METER CLUSTER AND MESSAGE DOES NOT DISAPPEAR UNTIL ENGINE IS SHUT OFF AND TURNED BACK ON. ALL LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER (IN THE CENTER CONSOLE) ILLUMINATE AND DO NOT TURN OFF UNTIL THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF AND TURNED BACK ON. PHENOMENA OCCURRED BOTH AT FIRST START UP AS WELL AS WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR STREET.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, SEVERAL THE GEARS ON THE SHIFTER ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RED RIVER DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP LOCATED AT (1060 HEBER SPRING RD, HEBER SPRINGS, AR 72543) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSOR IN THE GEAR SHIFTER NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO RED RIVER DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF WHAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.

MY JEEPS SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON EVERY FEW HUNDRED MILES AND ALWAYS WHEN I'M DRIVING IT'S COMES ON DURING MY TRIPS TO GEORGIA AND JUST DRIVING AROUND THE CITY. I CONSTANTLY COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN AND THEY'LL LOOK AT IT BUT IF YOU TURN THE VEHICLE OFF THE LIGHTS TURN THEMSELVES BACK OFF AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN. WELL THIS HAPPENED ALMOST EVERY TIME I TOOK THE CAR IN AND SO THEY NEVER TOOK ME SERIOUSLY AND WOULD TURN ME AWAY SAYING NOTHING LOOKED WRONG WITH THE CAR. WELL THE LAST TIME THE LIGHT CAME ON A CLICKING SOUND FOLLOWED WHEN ACCELERATING AND SOON AFTER MY REAR DRIVESHAFT FELL OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALERSHIP AS I HAVE A WARRANTY WITH THEM AND I TOLD THEM ABOUT EVERYTHING, INCLUDING THE LIGHTS AND THE CLICKING NOISE. THEY FINALLY RETURNED THE CAR TO ME 'FIXED' AFTER HAVING IT FOR OVER A MONTH. THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY HAD FIXED EVERYTHING I TOLD THEM ABOUT BUT THE LIGHTS CAME RIGHT BACK ON THREE DAYS LATER AND NOW THE THINGS BASICALLY FIGHTS ANY FORM OF ACCELERATION AND IT AGGRESSIVELY JERKS EVERY TIME IT DOWNSHIFTS AND IT MAKES A SMALL CLUNK NOISE WHEN REVERSING.

WHILE DRIVING MY DASH LIGHTS UP WITH "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND ALL THE LIGHTS LIGHT UP ON THE SHIFTER. I HAVE SEEN MANY MANY OF THESE COMPLAINTS SOME OF WHICH ARE ASSOCIATED WITH ACCIDENTS STEMMING FROM THE PROBLEM. I AM A LITTLE SCARED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK NOW. IT DOES NOT ALWAYS STAY ON BUT IS STARTING TO COME ON MORE OFTEN NOW. THE TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP NOW AND I AM BEING TOLD IT WILL NOT BE COVERED. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE HURT OR KILLED BEFORE CHYRSLER ACKNOWLEDGES AND TAKES CARE OF THIS PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LANDERS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF NORMAN (481 N INTERSTATE DR, NORMAN, OK 73069 (405)321-8228) WHERE A SOFTWARE REPROGRAMMING WAS PERFORMED AS THE SPINDLE GEAR WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHEN I PUT MY JEEP CHEROKEE IN REVERSE, MY SCREEN STARTED GLITCHING AND THEN 'SERVICE SHIFTER' CAME ON MY SCREEN. WHEN I LOOKED DOWN AT MY SHIFTER, ALL THE LIGHTS WERE LIT UP, SO I PUT IT IN PARK AND CUT THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I STARTED IT IT WAS GONE. THE NEXT DAY, THIS CAME ON AGAIN - AS I STARTED THE CAR SO I AGAIN, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT. AFTER GETTING 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, THE SERVICE SHIFTER CAME BACK ON AND NOT EVEN 15 SECONDS LATER, MY CAR ABRUPTLY PUT ITSELF IN PARK, MY LIGHTS WENT HAYWIRE, MY STEERING WHEEL WENT STIFF AS IF THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING AVAILABLE, ALL AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP SINCE I'VE READ ABOUT PEOPLE WRECKING AFTER THIS LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED MY VIN FOR A RECALL, BUT COULDN'T FIND ONE AND I AM NOT ABOUT TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR AN UNSAFE HUNK OF METAL. I'M STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT 32,800 MILES ON MY 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE, BUT I FULLY INTEND ON LETTING EVERY PERSON I KNOW THAT HAS AN FCA PRODUCT TO STAY AWAY FROM THEM IF THIS DOES NOT BECOME A RECALL. THE PICTURES BELOW ARE OF THE FIRST TIME WHEN I WAS BACKING UP IN MY PARENTS DRIVEWAY. I DIDN'T GET PICTURES OF THE SECOND TIME DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD BECAUSE MY FOCUS WAS ON GETTING HOME SAFELY TRYING TO NOT GO OVER 25-30 MPH.
Mileage: 32,800
WITHIN THE FIRST 3-5 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE AFTER STARTING IT, AN ERROR MESSAGE WILL APPEAR THAT SAYS TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND SELECT A GEAR. THIS MESSAGE USUALLY APPEARS WHEN I BEGIN SLOWING DOWN TOWARDS A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND PREVENTS ME FROM ACCELERATING AND I ALSO LOSE MY POWER BRAKES. ONCE MY VEHICLE IS STOPPED. I'LL SWITCH INTO PARK LIKE THE VEHICLE SAYS BUT WHEN I SWITCH BACK TO DRIVE I HAVE NO POWER. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART TO GET POWER AGAIN. MULTIPLE TIMES THIS ERROR HAS CAUSED THE CAR TO STALL AND CUT OFF WHILE STILL IN MOTION. ONCE THE CAR IS OFF, I HAVE TO USUALLY WAIT 2-3 MINUTES TO RESTART IT AN IT CAN TAKE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS ERROR IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING AND LEAVES THE DRIVER STRANDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD OFTEN IN AN INTERSECTION.

BOUGHT JEEP HAD IT FOR APPROX. 7 MONTHS (OCTOBER 2019) AND IT WOULD SHIFT REALLY HARD, THEN ONE DAY DRIVING FROM HOME TO STORE, THE JEEP JUST STALLED ON STREET, TURNED OFF ENGINE, RESTARTED AND DROVE TO DESTINATION. I BROUGHT MY JEEP IN 4X BEFORE THEY HAD REPLACED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE DUE TO IT BURNING OIL. ROUGHLY 3 MONTHS LATER (JANUARY), JEEP WAS IN DRIVEWAY, DROVE TO WORK AND TWICE THE SAME DAY SLAMMED INTO GEARS, TOOK IT BACK TO JEEP, THEY SAID GEARS NEEDED TO BE RESET. IT SEEMS WHEN I USE 4X4 TO SNOW, ITS FINE, WHEN I TURN IT OFF A COUPLE DAYS LATER IT SLAMS INTO GEARS. YESTERDAY (MARCH 2020) VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY, REVERSED TO LEAVE AND LIGHTS CAME ON DASH FOR SHIFTER NEEDS REPAIR, TURNED OFF ENGINE, RESTARTED, RESUMED DRIVING AND LIGHTS WERE OFF. PARKED JEEP IN DRIVE WAY, NEXT MORNING REVERSED AND DROVE TO WORK, REVERSED INTO SPACE AND LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN THAT SHIFTER NEEDED MAINT REPAIR. I HAVE NOW 53,000 MILES. I TAKE JEEP IN AGAIN TO BE LOOKED AT FOR SHIFTER. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE IN AT LEAST 11 TIMES SO FAR FOR ENGINE, GEARS SLAMMING, SHIFT SAYING NEEDS MAINT REPAIR. SINCE JUNE 2019

RIGHT WHEN MY VEHICLE HIT 25,000 MILES, I NOTICED THAT ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE IN MOTION THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON AND GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS ALL IN RED, P,R,N,D. YOU SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND ALL TURN OFF THEN WHEN YOU START DRIVING AGAIN THEY'LL DO THE SAME. IT'LL STOP FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN START AGAIN. FINALLY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IT ENDED UP BEGIN WIRES AND A SHIFTER HARNESS. A LOT OF JEEP CHEROKEE 2017-2019 OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING RIGHT AROUND THE SAME MILES. THIS NEEDS TO BECOME A RECALL.

CAR STALLED AND THE PANEL STATED SHIFT TO PARK ON PANEL AND WOULD NOT CRANK BACK. TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAD A LONG HARD CRANK AND ENGINE FINALLY CAUGHT UP AND CRANKED. SHIFTED INTO PARK AND WENT ABOUT 1000 - 1500 FEET AND IT DIED AGAIN. WAITED AND TRIED TO CRANK AGAIN AND WENT TO HARD CRANK AGAIN BEFORE STARTING. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY CLAIMED LOW OIL. THIS IS THE REASON FOR GOING DEAD. STATED I NEEDED OIL CHANGES EVERY 5K AFTER I WAS TOLD INITIALLY 10 K THEN AT 1ST OIL CHANGE TOLD 7500K AND THEN AT THIS PROBLEM THEY STATED NO IT WAS DEFINATELY 5 K. THIS TIME, PANEL LIGHTS UP AND SAYS SERVICE SHIFTER SOON. ALL LIGHTS ON DRIVE SHIFTER LIGHTS UP. NOT JUST ON PARK OR REVERSE OR DRIVE. ALL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THEY COME AND GO. I ALSO HAVE SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING THE LAST DAY OR SO AS WELL. COULD NOT CONFIRM YET. I WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH OUT FOR THIS. 1ST DATE 12/4/19 AND SERVICED AT DEALER ON 12/5/19 MILEAGE 31146 AND NOW THIS IS 2/4/20 MILEAGE TODAY IS 34116

HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS CHEROKEE, MY OIL PRESSURE LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN I WOULD TAKE SUDDEN TURN, I TOOK IT IN TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY STATED TO START AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, IT APPEARS THE MOTOR EQUIPPED IN THE CHEROKEE WAS BURNING OIL AND THEY COULDN'T DETERMINE WHERE THE OIL WAS GOING, ALSO DURING THIS TIME, MY 'SERVICE SHIFTER' LIGHT CAME ON MY DASH AND ALL OF THE SHIFTER LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AT THE SAME TIME, THIS WOULD HAPPEN PERIODICALLY, THEY DECIDED THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE MOTOR DUE TO THE OIL ISSUE, I ASKED ABOUT THE SERVICE SHIFTER ISSUE, THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAULTS WITH THE SERVICE SHIFTER, SURE ENOUGH 3 WEEKS LATER MY SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND WOULDN'T GO OFF, I WAS UNABLE TO TELL WHICH GEAR I WAS IN BECAUSE OF THIS BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE GEAR LIGHTS WERE ON SIMULTANEOUSLY, NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE DEALER DOES NOT HAVE AN ANSWER FOR THIS ISSUE, I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THIS ISSUE BE DOCUMENTED AND REPAIRED OR RECALLED.

WHILE IN MOTION, ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR MY SHIFTER TURNED ON AND SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING WAS ILLUMINATED ON MY CLUSTER. ONCE I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, THE CONDITION CLEARED AND WENT AWAY. THIS HAS OCCURRED TO ME ABOUT 6 TO 8 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS OR SO, SOME HAVE BEEN WHILE DRIVING, AND IT DOESN'T MATTER THE TYPE OF ROAD I HAVE BEEN ON WHEN IT HAPPENS, AND SOME HAVE BEEN WHEN I START THE VEHICLE AND IT IMMEDIATELY SHOWS UP. THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO GET THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED, WHICH IS WEST HILLS CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM, IN BREMERTON WASHINGTON, MENTIONED AFTER I ASKED IF THIS WAS A COMMON THING THAT THEY WERE DOING ABOUT A REPAIR A WEEK FOR THIS ISSUE.

I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 32,128 MILES AND GOT A SERVICE MESSAGE THAT SAID 'SERVICE SHIFTER'. I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT IS AN ISSUE THEY'VE SEEN BEFORE. I WAS ON A CITY STREET, I GOT TO A PARKING LOT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE SHIFTING TO PARK, OR TURNING THE CAR OFF. THEY INFORMED ME THAT BY TURNING THE CAR OFF, THE LIGHT SHOULD DISAPPEAR WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON. WHEN I TURNED MY CAR ON AFTER TURNING IT ON, THE LIGHT WAS GONE.

SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON AND P R N D ALL LIGHT UP RED. WAS SENT IN LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. DEALER CHANGED SOME TYPE OF WIRING HARNESS IN THE TRANSMISSION. AND FLASHED THE TRANSMISSION. WEEK LATER JEEP BECAME VERY HESITANT AND STARTED SHIFTING REALLY HARD. WAS SENT BACK TO DEALER. IT WAS THEN NOTED TRANSMISSION NEEDED A UPDATE, NOW 6-8 MONTHS LATER THE SAME ISSUE IS RE-OCCURRING. THIS IS ISSUE IS OCCURING IN 100-1000'S OF JEEP CHEROKEES THIS MODEL. SO I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THANK YOU

I HAVE TO PULL OVER TURN MY CAR OFF AND OPEN MY DOOR AND THEN RESTART IT FOR IT TO GO AWAY. SOMETIMES IT COMES RIGHT BACK ON. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE GEAR SELECTORS ILLUMINATED RED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GOSSETT CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1901 COVINGTON PIKE, MEMPHIS, TN 38128, (901) 388-8989) WHERE THE BEZEL WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE AFTER THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
STARTING AT 25K MILES, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO BURN THROUGH OIL EVEN BEFORE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. THE MANUAL STATES TO GO OFF THE OIL SYSTEM LIGHT, DEALERS SAY DIFFERENT. OIL HAD 14% LEFT, BUT THE CAR KEPT SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. WENT TO DEALER, CAR BURNED THROUGH ALL THE OIL. THEY REFUSED TO CHECK FOR ENGINE DAMAGE AND FORCE ME TO PAY FOR A FULL OIL CHANGE. STATED BY THE DEALER, ITS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH JEEP AND THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT. NOW AT 33K, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CYLINDER 4 MISFIRE. COIL PACK NEEDS REPLACED. THIS IS A TSB THAT WAS POSTED AT DEALERS BUT NOT GIVEN TO CONSUMERS. WHEN I GOT TO A PLACE TO PARK. I CUT THE JEEP OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON. I THEN RECEIVED A MESSAGE WHEN I PUT THE JEEP IN DRIVE TO VERIFY IF IT WOULD DRIVE AND I RECEIVED ANOTHER MESSAGE STATING 'SHIFT TO PARK'. THE JEEP BEGAN TO JERK AGAIN. I'VE HAD THIS JEEP FOR ONE YEAR EXACTLY BOUGHT IT WITH ONLY ABOUT 3,000 MILES ON IT AND WITHIN 3 MONTHS IT COMPLETELY STOPPED ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE AT ALL. SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHTS AND WARNING COME ON RANDOMLY WHEN DRIVING. WHEN THE ERROR MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED, THERE IS NO WAY TO GET RID OF IT EXCEPT TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND ON. THE ERROR MESSAGE TAKES UP THE ENTIRE IN DASH SCREEN AND DOES NOT ALLOW FOR THE DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER TO BE SHOWN. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A PATTERN AS TO WHEN THIS OCCURS, HAS HAPPENED WHEN STARTING UP AND JUST RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING (NOT SPECIFICALLY LINKED WITH A SPEED, DIRECTION, OR TURN).

THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP, KEFFER CHRYSLER JEEP IN CHARLOTTE, NC, HAS NOT RETURNED ANY OF MY CALLS ABOUT THIS ISSUE SO I'VE HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. I HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE FOR OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS BUT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT IT SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE LAST TIME IT SHUT DOWN I WAS ON A MAIN HIGHWAY AND WAS ALMOST HIT. *DT*JB CONSUMER STATED CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPEN IN TOWN AND ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW SEVERAL TIMES OVER APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS NOW. THE FIRST TIME BEING WHEN I GOT MY FIRST OIL CHANGE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PARKING SYMBOL ON THE GEAR SHIFT MECHANISM AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT MECHANISM ILLUMINATED. COURTESY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM FIAT (607 ENTERPRISE PARKWAY, BREAUX BRIDGE, LOUISIANA 70517, (337) 240-9947) DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE MALFUNCTIONED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
FIRST STARTED WITH JERKING AS YOU'RE DRIVING AT ONE TIME WE WERE AT A STOPLIGHT AS AND IT THE CAR JUST WANTED TO TAKE OFF BY ITSELF AND WE ALMOST GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT THE CAR IS ALWAYS LOW ON OIL I MEAN WE BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 3 MILES WITHIN WEEKS IT WOULD ACTUALLY HAD NO OIL MY HUSBAND THOUGHT OUT MAYBE THE MANUFACTURER JUST DIDN'T FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY BY MISTAKE DIDN'T CHECK IT OUT SO HE WENT AND PURCHASED WILL PUT OIL IN IT TWO WEEKS LATER TOOK IT FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WE ALREADY A QUART LOW CAR WASTE IS GAS LIKE CRAZY WE ARE CONSTANTLY FILLING UP EVERY 2 DAYS AND THEN CAR DOESN'T REALLY GO ANYWHERE BUT FROM WHAT 15 MILES A DAY ON OUR WAY TO KANSAS SO WE WERE COMING TO A CURVE AND MY HUSBAND TRY TO HIT THE BRAKES AND THE CAR DID NOT BREAK IT ACTUALLY ACCELERATED AND HE HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AS HE WAS DRIVING JUST TO SLOW IT DOWN TO AVOID GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT I MEAN WE'VE ALWAYS HAD TROUBLE WITH THIS CAR SINCE DAY ONE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN OCTOBER AND WE'VE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES THEN I HEAR RECALL ABOUT A HOSE FOR THE GAS LINE THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE IT IN FOR SOMETHING DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THESE CARS

I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE NEW ON MARCH 30. ON SUNDAY, APRIL 1 THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY WENT INTO PARK ASSIST MODE WITHOUT THE BUTTON BEING PUSHED. THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. IT WOULD NOT SHIFT BACK TO DRIVE. WE HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE TO GET THE CAR TO GO IN DRIVE AGAIN. LUCKILY WE WERE IN AN OUTSIDE LANE AND COULD PULL OVER TO THE EDGE OF THE HIGHWAY. IT IS SCARY TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD WE BEEN IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE. *TT *TR

ENTERING I 264 VA, PRESSED ACCELERATOR RESULTING IN A LURCHING MOTION, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE CAUSING OTHER VEHICLES TO SWERVE TO AVOID REAR ENDING OUR 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE. IT REPEATED THIS ACTION MANY TIMES AS WE LIMPED HOME UNDER 40 MPH. WE WERE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND CALLED THE DEALER (SOUTHERN CHRYSLER JEEP AT GREENBRIER). THE DEALER AUTHORIZED TOWING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE CALLED US AND SAID THE TRANSMISSION MECHANIC AUTHORIZED ORDERING A NEW TRANSMISSION DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT COME OUT OF GEAR.

TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY DOES NOT WANT TO GO IN THE RIGHT GEAR. THE VEHICLE THEN FEELS LIKE IT IS ALMOST STOPPING AND JERKING HARD WHILE THE VEHICLE THEN FINDS THE CORRECT GEAR AND STARTS WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN A WEIRD NOISE ALSO SEEMS TO RANDOMLY COME FOR THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A TRIGGER OR WHAT MAKES THE TRANSMISSION DO THIS, IT SEEMS COMPLETELY RANDOM. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS AND BOTH SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT IN THEY TOOK IT ON A TEST DRIVE SAID THEY HEARD THE NOISE AND KEPT MY VEHICLE OVERNIGHT, THE NEXT DAY HE CALLED AND SAID NOTHING IS WRONG DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. AS WE WERE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP ANOTHER SERVICE ADVISOR CAME UP AND STATED THAT THEY HAVE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE SO THEY ARE ALL ADVISED TO STATE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO THAT PEOPLE DO NOT START RETURNING THEIR CARS. HE ALSO STATED TO FILE A COMPLIANT SO THAT CHRYSLER WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO HAWK CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED.
