THE SUNROOF DRAIN DESIGN WAS FAULTY. DURING RAINING WEATHER, THE SUNROOF DRAINS CANNOT HANDLE THE COLLECTED RAIN AND THE RAIN WILL OVERFLOW AND GO INTO THE CAR. THE RAIN THAT OVERFLOWS FALLS INTO THE FRONT PANEL AND HAS CAUSED MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL FAILURES AND SHORTAGES. MOST IMPORTANTLY THE WATER HAS DAMAGED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND HEADLIGHT CONTROLS WHICH CAUSES THEM TO SHUT OFF WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE.

FIRST ANNOYANCE WAS THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. IT FAILED TO OPEN THE DOOR AT AROUND 45,000 MILES. THEN THE REAR PASSENGER INSIDE DOOR HANDLE JUST CRUMBLED OUT OF NOWHERE AROUND 47,000 MILES. THEN AROUND 50,000 MILES THE BRAKES 'FELT DIFFERENT' WHEN BRAKING AND IT FELT TO HARD TO PRESS DOWN ON THE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT HARD AS A ROCK THEN THE ABS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND AFTER A DIAGNOSIS I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. WHENEVER WE WENT THROUGH A PUDDLE OF WATER ON A TURN THE JEEPS STEERING WOULD LOCK UP AND JUST KEPT MOVING FORWARD & NOT TURNING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 4X2. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR HANDLES FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (HOLLYWOOD CHRYSLER JEEP, FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, 954-399-598) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR PANELS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. LATER, THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR HANDLES ALSO FRACTURED. THE FAILURES WERE NOT REPAIRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS WATER LEAKAGE COMING IN THE VEHICLE WHEN IT RAINED ON THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FELT UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP WHERE SOME MINOR REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED; HOWEVER, FURTHER REPAIRS WERE NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

AS A RESULT, THE FRONT AND REAR OF THE VEHICLE FLOODED AND THE REAR INTERIOR WAS MOLDING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROOF DRAINS AND TUBES WERE CLOGGED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

I THINK IT WAS AROUND APRIL 20TH, I WOULD HAVE TO CHECK THE DATE FOR SURE..WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE DOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND THE VEH STARTED LOSING POWER.. IT MADE A TERRIBLE NOISE , SOUNDED IF YOU WERE ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND IT WAS VIBRATING TERRIBLE. IT HAS A TERRIBLE SMELL TOO IT AND LOST TOTAL POWER AND HAD TO PULL OVER. MY HUSBAND GOT OUT AND LOOKED AND THERE WAS OIL POURING OUT OF THE REAR END. THE CAR WOULD HARDLY MOVE AT ALL. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED THE THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WENT OUT. THE JEEP HAD 62000 ON IT AND LOOKS AND ROAD LIKE A BRAND NEW CAR TILL THEN. WE HAD THAT REPAIRED 750.00 COST. NOWWWWWWWW WE HAVE A TERRIBLE LEAK NOT SURE WHERE IT IS COMING FROM, WHEN IT RAINS WE GET 3 INCHES OF WATER IN THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR BOARD, IT LEAKED SO BAD THE WIRING IS SHORTING OUT NOW. THE CARPET IS GETTING MOLDED AND HAS A BAD SMELL TOO IT. WE CAN NOT FIND THE LEAK WHAT SO EVER AND IT IS GETTING RATHER FRUSTRATING HAVING TO HAVE YOUR FEET IN 3 INCHES OF WATER WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE. THE SPEAKERS ON THE LEFT SIDE IF SHORTED OUT ON THE SATELLITE RADIO BUT WILL WORK FINE ON CD'S OR AM FM. THE AIR CONDITION NOW ONLY WORKS GOOD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND IS WARM ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. *TR

I HAVE HAD 3 DOOR HANDLES BREAK SINCE OWNING THIS VEHICLE. ALL OF THEM CRACKED BEHIND THE HANDLE, WITH 2 OF THOSE 3 ALREADY COMPLETELY BUSTED. AT THIS POINT THOSE 2 OF THE 3 HANDLES ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO SIT THE HANDLE JUST RIGHT ON THE INSIDE EDGE. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY. JEEP DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE HANDLE, AND WANTED $850/PER DOOR TO FIX! YOU CAN'T JUST REPLACE THE HANDLE, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL. THIS IS A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW ON JEEP'S PART, AND SHOULD BE FIXED. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. EVERYONE IN MY FAMILY KNOWS HOW TO OPEN THE DOOR IN CALM CONDITIONS, BUT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT/PANIC SITUATION I'M NOT SURE WE COULD THINK CLEARLY ENOUGH TO OPERATE THEM. SCARY!! I'M NOT COMFORTABLE HAVING PEOPLE RIDE WITH ME, AS I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THEIR SAFETY AND SAFETY CONCERNS WHEN I SHOW THEM HOW TO USE THE HANDLES. THIS NEEDS FIXING BY JEEP!! *TR

DOOR HANDLES ON JEEP COMMANDER HAVE A FACTORY DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING OF THE DOOR HANDLE CARRIER CUP ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANALS. THIS IS DUE TO A POOR PLASTIC MATRIX RESULTING IN EMBRITTLEMENT. *TR THIS RESULTS IN OCCUPANTS BEING UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON VARIOUS JEEP FORUMS AND FOUND IT TO BE A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM. IT IS TIME FOR NTHSA TO HOLD CHRYSLER RSPONSIBLE FOR THIS FLAW AND ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL. I USE THIS VEHICLE TO CARRY MY CHILDREN AND IT WILL COST OVER $2000 TO REPLACE THE 4 DOOR PANELS, THE ONLY FIX.

THE SAME DAY I PURCHASED MY USED 2006 JEEP COMMANDER, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR FROM THE INSIDE WHEN THE TRIM AROUND THE HANDLE CRACKED AND A PIECE OF PLASTIC FLEW OFF. THE HANDLE NOW DANGLES, USELESS AND LOOSE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THEY HAD ALSO JUST REPLACED THE DRIVER'S DOOR PANEL PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE, HAVING ENCOUNTERED THE VERY SAME PROBLEM WITH THAT DOOR. UNFORTUNATELY, IT APPEARS THAT THESE REPAIRS REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL WHENEVER THE HANDLE BREAKS...I'M BEING TOLD IT IS A $700 REPAIR. *TR

ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES AND PLASTIC AROUND THE DOOR HANDLES ARE BEGINNING TO CRACK AND BREAK. THE PLASTIC INDENT UNDERNEATH THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAS BECOME EXTREMELY BRITTLE AND WILL CRACK IF YOU BARELY TOUCH IT. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN FROM THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL AND ALL THE PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BEGUN BREAKING AND FALLING INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL. I HAVE THOROUGHLY RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT AND WAS SURPRISED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL NOTICE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS. INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE EXTREMELY FRAGILE AND CAN EASILY BREAK OFF WHICH WOULD PREVENT SOMEONE FROM ESCAPING THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT TO REPAIR THE DOOR HANDLE, THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (AT APPROXIMATELY $600 INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR). THIS DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE ISSUE WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AS THEY HAVE NOT MADE ANY CHANGES TO THE DOOR PANELS TO PREVENT IT FROM DOING SO. $2400 TO REPAIR THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLES OF MY VEHICLE WITH NO ASSURANCE THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN SEEMS TO BE IMMORAL AND ILLEGAL. *TR

I OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER, AND HAVE 3 DOORS IN WHICH THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BEZEL HAS BROKEN. BY RESEARCHING PRICE OF REPAIR, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS ACTUALLY A VERY COMMON ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY MY DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS MY OWN FAULT FOR BEING TOO ROUGH ON MY DOOR HANDLES, HOWEVER I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE I'VE OWNED. I HAVE 3 DAUGHTERS RANGING IN AGE FROM 18 MONTHS TO 14 YEARS, AND I DOUBT THEY SHOULD BE STRONG ENOUGH TO BREAK DOOR HANDLES. I'M REPORTING THIS AS I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER, IN LIGHT OF THE MULTITUDE OF EXAMPLES I'M FINDING ON THE INTERNET, AND IN TALKING TO OTHER COMMANDER OWNERS. THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE, SINCE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, MY DAUGHTERS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS.
